  1. Thank you for listening to this message from

  2. Lifehouse Church. Good morning, everyone. Man,

  3. a good hearty good morning out there. Well, we

  4. are just so glad that you are joining us this

  5. morning. And you already heard Charlie say that

  6. Pastor Kip is under the weather. We appreciate

  7. your continued prayers for him. He is down with

  8. pneumonia. So you don't want him here. I don't

  9. want him here. And I know you're listening online,

  10. honey. We do want you here once you're feeling

  11. better and you can be part of the gathering.

  12. Yeah, see, you're loved, Kip. But I just wanted

  13. to take a minute. Dr. Bell is going to come and

  14. share the word this morning, but I just wanted

  15. to share a little bit. Some of you may not know

  16. who Dr. Bell is. And Dr. Bell, Dr. Ken Bell,

  17. he was actually my boss for six years, but he

  18. was the state overseer in Pennsylvania for six

  19. years. I worked under him. This was years ago.

  20. This was right after Lifehouse Church had started.

  21. We had just launched. We were this baby church.

  22. We were a year old. We were meeting in the sports

  23. emporium at the snack bar, like the little snack

  24. bar area is where we were. And I was just...

  25. contemplating this this weekend after Kip had

  26. asked him to fill in this morning, that it was

  27. amazing to me. They came to the state, and they

  28. came from Tennessee, which is where our denomination

  29. is headquartered, and they attended a very large

  30. church in Tennessee, and they came to Pennsylvania,

  31. and they made Lifehouse their church. This little

  32. tiny church of 25 or 30 people meeting in a skating

  33. rink, but Dr. Bell believed in Kip. And he believed

  34. in Lifehouse. And they became part of Lifehouse.

  35. Now, he traveled a lot. But his wife, Trish,

  36. and at the time, their young daughter, Megan,

  37. was part of Lifehouse. And they supported us.

  38. They supported us financially. They supported

  39. us with their attendance. And we're just eternally

  40. grateful that Dr. Bell believed in us. Because

  41. look where Lifehouse is today. It's amazing to

  42. me what God has done in the last 15 years here

  43. at Lifehouse. From a little tiny skating rink

  44. to this beautiful sanctuary that we're worshiping

  45. now. So I just want to say thank you. He is an

  46. author. He is a pastor. He was a state overseer.

  47. And bless his heart, he is now retired. What

  48. we all want to look forward to one day. But he's

  49. got an amazing gift of sharing God's word. And

  50. he's going to do that just today. Kip called

  51. him on Friday and he very graciously. answered

  52. immediately, yes, I would be happy to fill in.

  53. So can we just give Dr. Ken Bell a welcome from

  54. LifeHouse today? Good morning. It's wonderful

  55. to see you. Appreciate you being in the house

  56. of the Lord. Those of you who are online or if

  57. you're visiting today, I am not the pastor. He's

  58. much better than I am, much better looking, and

  59. you need to hear him. And Pastor Kip, I'm sure

  60. you're watching. We do miss you here and pray

  61. for your speedy recovery. I was preaching at

  62. a church and had come before Sunday school was

  63. over. So I was standing in the foyer of the church

  64. waiting for the Sunday school to end. And an

  65. elderly lady came in the door and she said, well,

  66. who are you, Sonny boy? And I said, I'm your

  67. fill -in or stand -in today. She said, what do

  68. you mean stand -in? I said, well, you know, like

  69. if you break a pane of one of your windows, and

  70. you get a piece of cardboard and put it in until

  71. you get the real pane. She said, oh, okay. So

  72. I preached that day, and after the service, she

  73. came up and shook my hand. She said, Sonny boy,

  74. you're not a fill -in or sand -in. You're a real

  75. pane. She didn't spell that pane, so I don't

  76. know if it's P -A -I -N or P -A -N -E, but it

  77. is a delight to be with you and to worship with

  78. you. And I appreciate this opportunity, Pastor

  79. Kip. My message today is detours, dead ends,

  80. and dry places. And the scripture is found in

  81. Exodus chapter 13. Now, I'm going to preach Exodus

    Exodus 13 chapter mention

  82. 13, Exodus 14, Exodus 15, and still get you out

  83. by 11 o 'clock. If anybody believes that, raise

  84. your hand. Hey, with no confidence at all. Next

  85. is chapter 13, and they'll put it on the screen

    Isaiah 13 chapter mention

  86. for you, beginning at verse 17. Then it came

  87. to pass, when Pharaoh had let the people go,

  88. that God did not lead them by way of the land

  89. of the Philistines, although that was near. For

  90. God said, lest perhaps the people change their

  91. minds when they see war and return to Egypt.

  92. So God led the people around. by way of the wilderness

  93. of the Red Sea. And the children of Israel went

  94. up in orderly ranks out of the land of Egypt.

  95. And Moses took the bones of Joseph with him,

  96. for he had placed the children of Israel in a

  97. solemn oath, saying, God will surely visit you,

  98. and you shall carry up my bones from here with

  99. you. So they took their journey from Succoth

  100. and camped in Etham at the edge of the wilderness.

  101. And the Lord went before them by day in a pillar

  102. of cloud to lead the way, and by night in a pillar

  103. of fire to give them light. so as to go by day

  104. and night. He did not take away the pillar of

  105. cloud by day or the pillar of fire by night before

  106. the people. The book of Exodus records not only

  107. the deliverance of the Israelites from slavery

  108. and bondage in Egypt, it also records their covenant

  109. with God at Mount Sinai and also the instructions

  110. for the construction of the tabernacle in the

  111. wilderness and the actual dedication of that

  112. tabernacle. And Paul in 1 Corinthians chapter

    1 Corinthians 10:11

  113. 10 verse 11 says that these things, I can't see

  114. the screen, these things happened to them as

  115. examples and were written down as warnings for

  116. us on whom the culmination of the age is to come.

  117. So what he's saying is that the Exodus was recorded

  118. for us, for our example. I read a story of a

  119. young man who was learning to... climb rocks

  120. and there was this hundred full hundred foot

  121. high outcropping of a rock that he was going

  122. to do his first climb on he had the safety harness

  123. had a couple of friends down below to keep him

  124. safe with the safety ropes he started up the

  125. rock cliff made it all the way to the top after

  126. some time and they let him rappel back down to

  127. the ground he said i want to go up again without

  128. all this this strap and his emergency strap is

  129. binding me. I want to go up without any safety

  130. harness. They warned him not, said you haven't

  131. had enough experience, but he insisted. So he

  132. started climbing up that rock face, got almost

  133. to the top and his grip slipped and he began

  134. to fall. Fortunately, about halfway down, there

  135. was a small tree growing out of the cleft of

  136. the rock that he was able to grab hold and break

  137. his fall. He surveyed his surroundings. He couldn't

  138. find a handhold, toehold to climb up or to get

  139. a hold so he could climb back down. He looked

  140. down to the ground. It was 50 feet down and decided

  141. it was time to pray. So he looked up to heaven

  142. and said, is anybody up there? Much to his surprise,

  143. a voice came booming back, yes. To his surprise,

  144. he said, Will you help me? The voice came booming

  145. back. Will you trust me? He said, sure, I'll

  146. trust you. The voice came booming back. Turn

  147. loose. He thought about it for a moment. Looked

  148. at 50 feet to go and looked back up at heaven

  149. rather sheepishly and said, is anybody else up

  150. there? it's a funny story, but it says a great

  151. truth. There is no one else up there. And I believe

  152. that the primary cause of much of our problems

  153. in the church is simply a lack of faith in God.

  154. We believe him for salvation, but then we seem

  155. reluctant to trust him for anything else. As

  156. a pastor, I pastored in Indiana and also in North

  157. Carolina. Some members' faith was fine as long

  158. as things were going well, but let things start

  159. going bad, and their faith began to waver. I

  160. had a member in Indiana. His name was Clarence,

  161. and Clarence was one of these kind of people

  162. that when he was on fire for God, I mean he was

  163. hot, he was in church, he was ready to do anything

  164. he was called upon to do, but when he was depressed

  165. or going through a low spot, he'd stay out of

  166. church, not have to encourage me to come back.

  167. He'd get fired up and go again. Clarence was

  168. the kind of fellow that... When they went to

  169. the grocery store, he put the groceries on the

  170. table, dining room table, say a blessing over

  171. them then so he wouldn't have to pray before

  172. meals. That's the kind of fellow Clarence was.

  173. Don't tell me if you do that. But our relationship

  174. with God must not be based on how we feel or

  175. what we see. If you base it on feelings, what

  176. are you going to do when your world caves in?

  177. You can't base it on feelings. You can't base

  178. it on sight, what you see either. Satan wants

  179. to control how we think about life and how we

  180. think about things that are going on in our life.

  181. He wants us to look horizontally through the

  182. eyes of man when God wants us to look vertically

  183. through the eyes of God. And faith in God's word

  184. is the key to living triumphantly today. Now

  185. our problem is we prefer an event to a process.

  186. We want things now. We want things to happen

  187. now rather than wait. or to process. In fact,

  188. we want God to deliver us from our trials more

  189. than we want development through our trials.

  190. We want an experience versus the hard work of

  191. believing. Here's the thing. If you're worrying,

  192. you are not trusting. It's as simple as that.

  193. Death challenges our faith that heaven is real.

  194. Troubles challenge our faith. that God still

  195. delivers. Sickness challenges our faith, that

  196. God still heals. And lack of faith in God's word

  197. is what caused Adam and Eve to sit in the garden.

  198. They believed the lie of the serpent rather than

  199. the word of God. It was lack of faith in God's

  200. word that caused the Israelites to have to wander

  201. in the wilderness for 40 years because they believed

  202. the majority report of the spies. Moses sent

  203. 12 spies out to spy on the land of Canaan. Joshua

  204. and Caleb said, let us go up at once and possess

  205. the land. But 10 of the spies said, we are not

  206. able to go up and possess it. And they believed

  207. the majority report. And therefore, they had

  208. to wander for 40 years in the wilderness. It

  209. was a lack of faith in God's word through his

  210. prophets that caused Israel and Judah to be carried

  211. into captivity. But it was faith in God's word

  212. that brought Abraham to the promised land. It

  213. was faith in God's word that gave him a son at

  214. 100 years old. It was faith in God's word that

  215. kept Daniel safe in the lion's den. And faith

  216. in God delivered the three Hebrew boys from the

  217. fiery furnace. In fact, the importance of faith

  218. is stated in Hebrews 11, verse 6. Without faith,

    Hebrews 11:6

  219. it is impossible to please God. Now think about

  220. it. Without faith, it is impossible to please

  221. God. For he who comes to God must believe that

  222. he is and that he is a reward of those who diligently

  223. seek him. You see, conversion can occur in just

  224. a few moments. It doesn't take long to get saved.

  225. But that is an event that begins a process. And

  226. serving God is a pilgrimage. It's a journey.

  227. If we could get saved and go right to heaven,

  228. it would be wonderful, but God wouldn't get any

  229. glory out of that. It is a process. and a journey.

  230. And you will experience one or more of these

  231. places in your spiritual journey. In the text

  232. that I read to you, the first thing I want to

  233. talk about is the discipline of detours. Now,

  234. when you're traveling, nobody likes detours.

  235. It usually adds time. To your travel. But it

  236. usually means there's something wrong. An accident

  237. or construction. Or some other reason that's

  238. not safe to pass. In Exodus chapter 13 verse

    Exodus 13:17

  239. 17. It says that God led them around. Around

  240. about. That God led them on a circuitous route.

  241. Did you know it was just. They could have been

  242. to the promised land. In two weeks time from

  243. Egypt. If you throw up the map. God. Instead

  244. of leading them. To the northeast. From Egypt

  245. to the. Canaan, God led them on a security route

  246. to the south, southeast on a divine detour. And

  247. the Bible says why God did that. He said he did

  248. not go to the land of Philistines although that

  249. was near because they would have had to see war

  250. and they would have gotten discouraged and went

  251. back to Egypt. So God, knowing what was best

  252. for them, led them on a divine detour. Now there's

  253. probably some good church members there. He said

  254. this is not the way. We know the map. We know

  255. where the promised land. Why, Moses, are you

  256. leading us this way when the promised land is

  257. this way? But God knew what was best for them.

  258. And God leads them in the opposite direction

  259. to a dry, rocky, barren wilderness because they

  260. were not ready to go to Canaan. Read a story

  261. of two little boys. Jimmy told his friend Billy,

  262. my dad has a list of men that he can whip, and

  263. your dad's name is at the top of the list. Well,

  264. you know, Billy couldn't wait to get home and

  265. tell his dad. His dad came home from work. It

  266. had been a bad day. He was in a bad mood. Billy

  267. said, Dad, Jimmy said that his dad has a list

  268. of men that he can whip, and your name's at the

  269. top of the list. Billy's dad said, Well, we'll

  270. just see about that. He stalked down the house,

  271. crossed the street, and went up to Jimmy's house,

  272. knocked on the door, and Jimmy's dad came to

  273. the door, and Billy's dad said, My son said that

  274. your son said that you have a list of men that

  275. you can whip, and I'm at the top of the list.

  276. Is that true? Jimmy's dad said, yes, sir, that's

  277. true. Billy's dad said, well, I'm here to tell

  278. you you can't do it. Jimmy's dad said, no problem,

  279. I'll just erase your name. And I say that, sometimes

  280. we get all fired up and energized at church,

  281. ready to face the devil, but as soon as we get

  282. outside the church doors, facing our problems,

  283. we forget what we felt in the church. So God

  284. led them out into the wilderness to train them

  285. and get them ready for the fight that was ahead

  286. because God knew what was best. Now here's our

  287. problem. We don't enjoy the preparation process.

  288. I'd rather microwave than cook anything. We don't

  289. enjoy the process, but God knew what was best

  290. for them. And here's the thing. You don't want

  291. to confuse what's on your itinerary for your

  292. destiny. You see, Israel leaving Egypt to go

  293. to the promised land, the wilderness, was on

  294. their itinerary, but that was not their destiny.

  295. Hear me. Sickness might be on your itinerary,

  296. but healing is your destiny. Sadness might be

  297. on your itinerary, but joy is your destiny. Conflict

  298. might be on your itinerary, but victory is your

  299. destiny. The wilderness was on the Israelites'

  300. itinerary, but the promised land Was there? Destiny.

  301. And sometimes detours are the best way of God

  302. getting us to where he wants us to be. Our problem

  303. is we look at everybody else. Well, why are they

  304. having such a good time? Why are they being blessed?

  305. Why nothing bad happening to them? And that doesn't

  306. matter. Our relationship with God is between

  307. us and God. What matters is have you progressed

  308. since yesterday? Are you growing in the Lord?

  309. If you feel like your plans have been sidelined,

  310. It's possible you're on a detour, a divine detour,

  311. and God is getting you ready for the great things

  312. that he has in store for you. We don't have to

  313. understand. We just have to be concerned about

  314. following our cloud and our pillar of fire. Delays

  315. are not denials. They are discipline. And the

  316. lesson to be gained from this story is that God

  317. knows what his people need. Now. That's 13. Let's

  318. go to chapter 14. They follow the cloud. And

  319. where does the cloud lead them? In Exodus chapter

    Exodus 14 chapter mention

  320. 14, beginning at verse 9, the scripture says,

  321. So the Egyptians pursued them, all the horses

  322. and chariots of Pharaoh, his horsemen and his

  323. army, and overtook them, camping by the sea beside

  324. Pihahiroth before Beelzefan. And when Pharaoh

  325. drew near, the children of Israel lifted their

  326. eyes, and behold, the Egyptians marched after

  327. them. So they were very afraid, and the children

  328. of Israel cried out to the Lord. Then they said

  329. to Moses, Because there were no graves in Egypt,

  330. have you taken us away to die in the wilderness?

  331. Why have you so dealt with us to bring us up

  332. out of Egypt? Is this not the word that we told

  333. you in Egypt, saying, Let us alone, that we may

  334. serve the Egyptians? For it would have been better

  335. for us to serve the Egyptians than that we should

  336. die in the wilderness. And Moses said to the

  337. people, Do not be afraid. Stand still and see

  338. the salvation of the Lord, which he will accomplish

  339. for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see

  340. today, you shall see again no more forever. The

  341. Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your

  342. peace. So they were following the cloud. The

  343. cloud leads them to the banks of the Red Sea.

  344. They can't swim across. They don't have boats

  345. to boat all the people in their belongings across.

  346. Pharaoh is hot on their trail behind them. And

  347. I call this the dilemma of a day. And God led

  348. them to a dead end. Now, a dead end is worse

  349. than a detour. There's three options. You can

  350. just stop. Well, I've reached a dead end. I'm

  351. going to stop. I'm not going to do anything else.

  352. Or... You can turn around, retreat, go back to

  353. where you came, or you ask God to make a way.

  354. The Israelites were trapped, the Red Sea before

  355. them, the Egyptians behind them, and there will

  356. be times in your walk with God when you simply

  357. don't know what to do. You don't know whether

  358. to go right, you don't know whether to go left,

  359. you don't want to go back, but you don't see

  360. any way ahead. The Israelites began to murmur

  361. and complain. Moses, can't you read a map? Doesn't

  362. God know what he is doing? But God knew exactly

  363. what he was doing. He was baiting a hook for

  364. the Egyptians to deliver his people and destroy

  365. their enemies. Now this happens to us and we

  366. begin to question, well, did I miss the will

  367. of God? Am I still in the will of God with all

  368. this happening? But you are in the will of God

  369. if the Spirit led you there regardless of how

  370. many dead ends you encounter. You see, Christ

  371. did not come to keep us out of trouble. He came

  372. to be with us in times of trouble. Many of you

  373. have seen that picture of footprints in the sand.

  374. It usually has a picture of a beach or a sandy

  375. place and then a rocky place, and there are two

  376. sets of footprints in the sandy place and only

  377. one set of footprints in the rocky, rough places.

  378. And the Christian complains to Jesus, why were

  379. you with me? During the easy times of life and

  380. lift me during the rough times. And Jesus responds

  381. and says, my child, I did not leave you. I was

  382. carrying you through those rough places. What

  383. do you do if you're at a dead end? Chapter 14,

  384. Moses told the people, stand still and see the

  385. salvation of the Lord. Two things you don't do,

  386. you don't panic. Panic is not trusting God. And

  387. you don't retreat. You don't go back. Two things

  388. you do. Moses said, stand still. We understand

  389. the standing part. It's the still part we don't

  390. like. You know what it actually means? It's to

  391. be quiet. I'm serious. You look on down. He says,

  392. hold your peace. In other words, he said, stand.

  393. And shut up. Just quit talking. And start looking

  394. at what God is doing. Now, here's the thing.

  395. We don't always see what God is doing. But I

  396. tell you, he's always doing more behind the scenes

  397. and under the surface than we can see with our

  398. eyes. But if you'll stand still and wait on God,

  399. God is an on -time God. And he always shows up

  400. right when you need him. God turned their dead

  401. end into a superhighway, and he can do the same

  402. for you. There is nothing impossible with God.

  403. That's chapter 14. Let's go to chapter 15. They're

  404. still following the cloud, cloud by day, pillar

  405. of fire by night. There is no question about

  406. which way they're to go. If the cloud stops,

  407. they stop. The cloud moves, they move. So they're

  408. following the cloud. They get through the Red

  409. Sea. They rejoice and praise Moses for leading

  410. them through and thank God for leading them through.

  411. And then in Exodus chapter 15, beginning at verse

    Exodus 15 chapter mention

  412. 22, the Bible says, So Moses brought Israel from

  413. the Red Sea, and then they went out into the

  414. wilderness of Shur, and they went three days

  415. in the wilderness and found no water. Now when

  416. they came to Marah, they could not drink the

  417. waters of Marah, for they were bitter. Therefore

  418. the name of it was called Marah. And the people

  419. complained against Moses, saying, What shall

  420. we drink? So he cried out to the Lord, and the

  421. Lord showed him a tree. And when he cast into

  422. the waters, the waters remained sweet. There

  423. he made a statute and an ordinance for them,

  424. and there he tested them. Just a few days before,

  425. their problem was too much water. And now their

  426. problem was not enough water. And that's how

  427. life is. We go from mountaintop to valley, from

  428. plenty to famine. It's just a way of life. And

  429. God just wants to see if you'll trust him. It

  430. wasn't bad luck. God led them there. God wasn't

  431. punishing them. He was testing them. Look at

  432. verse 25. There he tested them. If you look at

  433. these three chapters. God said, I led you on

  434. a detour to see if you would follow me. I brought

  435. you to a dead end to see if you would wait on

  436. me. Now will you trust me at a dry place? What

  437. did they do? They began to murmur and complain.

  438. It's like a student came to me. I was a college

  439. professor at East Coast Bible College for 17

  440. years. I said, Dr. Bell, I don't think I deserve

  441. this F. I said, well, I don't either, but it

  442. was the lowest grade I could give you. I know

  443. that's cruel. That's cold. That's when I was

  444. young and foolish. But they failed again and

  445. murmured against God and murmured against Moses.

  446. In three days, Moses goes from a hero to a zero.

  447. Only a pastor can understand that feeling, how

  448. quickly people can change. But here's the thing.

  449. You reach places in your walk with God when you

  450. cannot sense God's presence. It's like it's a

  451. million miles away. You pray. It seems like your

  452. prayers get no higher than the ceiling, and you

  453. wonder what is going on. There will be dry places

  454. in your walk with God, and you still have to

  455. trust him. Let me ask you, where was God while

  456. Daniel was being led to the lion's den? God could

  457. have showed up. He could have kept him from being

  458. arrested. He could have kept him from leading

  459. him to the lion's den. He could have kept him

  460. from putting him down in the lion's den, but

  461. God allowed all of that. but showed up when he

  462. got in the lion's den and shut the mouths of

  463. the lions. Where was God while the three boys?

  464. The furnace was being heated seven times hotter

  465. than normal. God allowed them to tie him up,

  466. heat the furnace, and throw them into the midst

  467. of the fire. But then that fourth man showed

  468. up, and the bonds were burnt, but there was no

  469. smell of smoke or no burn on them as they walked

  470. in the midst of the fiery furnace. There are

  471. several temptations you'll face. During this

  472. time of a dry place, you'll be tempted to forget

  473. past blessings. Somehow Satan, he doesn't remind

  474. us of past blessings. He wants us to forget this.

  475. But Psalm 103 says, Bless the Lord, O my soul,

  476. and all that is within me. Bless his holy name.

  477. Bless the Lord, O my soul. And what? Forget not

  478. all his benefits. You'll be tempted to sin. The

  479. Bible tells us in 1 Peter 5 and 8. Our adversary,

  480. the devil, walks about as a roaring lion seeking

  481. whom he may devour. He's looking for a Christian

  482. who's disappointed or discouraged or going through

  483. a dry place. He looks for you to try to devour

  484. you. You'll be tempted to quit. So many people

  485. going through a rough time. They say, I'm just

  486. going to throw up my hands and quit. It's just

  487. not working for me. But if I was to go outside

  488. this church in the fall in a mud puddle, my wife

  489. and daughter and grandchildren would probably

  490. laugh. Some would run and try to help me out

  491. of the mud puddle. But what would you expect

  492. me to do? You'd expect me to get up out of the

  493. mud puddle, clean myself up, and watch out that

  494. I don't fall in that same mud puddle again. And

  495. that's what God expects you to do. Don't throw

  496. up your hands and quit. If you fail, if you stumble,

  497. you get back up, start again. And go down the

  498. road. You'll be tempted to doubt past experiences.

  499. Satan will say it wasn't really real. You didn't

  500. really feel God. It was just the emotion of the

  501. moment. And you'll be tempted to doubt what God's

  502. done for you. You'll be tempted to make wrong

  503. decisions. You should never make a major decision

  504. affecting the future of your life while you're

  505. in a bad or dry situation. Delay it until you

  506. hear from God or things change. And then sixthly,

  507. You limit God to a particular place of time.

  508. You say, oh, if I could just hear Pastor so -and

  509. -so preach again. If I could just get back to

  510. the old days when we had those shouting services.

  511. If I could just hear my grandmother, my mother

  512. praying, calling my name in prayer, everything

  513. would be all right. But you don't limit God to

  514. what's happened in the past. He's the same God

  515. today as he was then. During these dry seasons,

  516. you must walk by faith. The praise team will

  517. come. You didn't believe I could. But you just

  518. didn't know me, did you? If you trust God, God

  519. will lead you through those dry areas to a place

  520. of blessing and refreshing. In fact, if you look

  521. at Exodus chapter 15, verse 27, it says they

    Exodus 15:27

  522. came to Elam where there were 12 wells of water

  523. and 70 palm trees. So God led them on a detour.

  524. Through the Red Sea to a dry place, but eventually

  525. to an oasis that had plenty of water and shade.

  526. And God will do the same thing for you this morning.

  527. That's an old song. In fact, I looked it up today

  528. to see if it was actually written in 1945. And

  529. the chorus is, have you got any rivers you think

  530. are uncrossable? Got any mountains you cannot

  531. tunnel through? God specializes in things thought

  532. impossible, and he'll do for you what no other

  533. power can do. Would you bow your heads? I read

  534. a story of a little girl whose father and mother

  535. had had some marital problems and had separated.

  536. She was playing in the front yard with some friends.

  537. After school, one of them kicked the ball out

  538. into the middle of the road, and she darted out

  539. after it without looking and was struck by a

  540. school bus. They called an ambulance and rushed

  541. her to the hospital. The mother called the father

  542. and told him what happened. They met in the waiting

  543. room outside the ER treatment rooms. After some

  544. time, a doctor came out and said, I'm sorry,

  545. but there's nothing we can do for your daughter.

  546. She's just too broken. The parents said, well,

  547. can we see her? He said, you can see her for

  548. just a moment. So they took him into the emergency

  549. room treatment area. The little girl was laid

  550. on the bed and had the sheet pulled up all the

  551. way to her neck. Father and mother spoke to her

  552. and said, honey, your mom and dad are here. She

  553. opened her eyes with a great deal of effort.

  554. She reached out her right hand, stretched it

  555. to her mom. who was standing on the right side

  556. of the bed, said, Mommy, give me your hand. Then

  557. with a great deal of effort, she pulled out her

  558. left hand and stretched it to her father and

  559. said, Daddy, give me your hand. With the last

  560. bit of strength this little girl had, she pulled

  561. their two hands to her chest and died. She wanted

  562. Mom and Dad to get back together again. But you

  563. know, that's exactly what Jesus did on Calvary.

  564. As he hung on the cross, He got the hand of God,

  565. reached down, got the hand of man, pulled him

  566. together to him on the cross, and died. He died

  567. for you and me and for our sins. And I don't

  568. know what you're going through in life today.

  569. Everybody has hard times. Everybody has difficult

  570. times. But God sent me here today to tell you

  571. he will be with you on the detours. He'll be

  572. with you at the dead ends. He'll be with you

  573. at the dry places if you will only trust him.

  574. If you don't know Christ as your savior this

  575. morning, I want to give you that opportunity

  576. to make a commitment to him. He died for you.

  577. Died to forgive you of your sins. Died to give

  578. you life. In eternity. But it's up to you. You're

  579. the only one that can make that decision. I can't

  580. make it for you. If I could, I would. Your family

  581. can't make it for you. You're the only one. And

  582. if you don't know Christ this morning, would

  583. you like to accept him as Lord of your life?

  584. I'm going to ask you to slip your hand as a message

  585. to him. I want to be saved this morning. I'm

  586. sorry for my sins. And I want you to forgive

  587. me. And I will serve you the very best that I

  588. can. Just anyone that would like to accept Christ

  589. this morning, I'm not going to embarrass you.

  590. I want to give you an opportunity to express

  591. your request for salvation. You may need to recommit

  592. your life. You've served Him at one time, but

  593. you've kind of drifted away. You know you're

  594. not where you ought to be with God. You ought

  595. to recommit to Him today. You can do that this

  596. morning. And if you have a special need in your

  597. life, I'm going to ask you to stand right now.

  598. I want to have a prayer for you before they sing

  599. this last song. Would you stand? Everybody stand.

  600. We have a special prayer for you. We do have

  601. a prayer team who stand ready to pray with you.

  602. If you'd like somebody to pray with you, they

  603. won't share your secrets. It's between you and

  604. God, but they will pray for you this morning.

  605. whatever you're going through. Father, I thank

  606. you for this congregation this morning. It's

  607. a beautiful congregation. And God, I don't believe

  608. they're here by accident. We're here by your

  609. divine plan. And Lord, I just pray that there's

  610. anyone here who's struggling, who's tempted to

  611. quit, throw up their hands and just give up,

  612. who are in a difficult situation and don't know

  613. what to do. It may be a bad job, may be a bad

  614. relationship. maybe tough times financially or

  615. physically or spiritually, I ask you in Jesus'

  616. name, would you touch them this morning, do your

  617. work in your way, and we'll give you praise for

  618. it. In Jesus' name. Thank you for tuning in to
