  1. Thank you for listening to this message from

  2. Lifehouse Church. It's good to have you here.

  3. I got a friend with me. This is James Kozer.

  4. Say hello, everybody. All right. Well, today,

  5. it's long overdue getting James here. He is the

  6. executive director at Carlisle Christian Academy.

  7. And if you don't know where that school is, just

  8. take a look around you. You're sitting in it.

  9. Okay. Carlisle Christian Academy is right here.

  10. We coexist in this facility, and it's been an

  11. amazing journey, honestly, for a little better

  12. than a year now. They've been so gracious with

  13. us as a church, and we work together for the

  14. kingdom of God, and we share this facility. And

  15. I've been, again, long overdue getting James

  16. here so that he could share with you a little

  17. bit about the school. And James kind of does

  18. it all. He's a teacher, preacher, leads a school.

  19. Athlete, I don't know. It goes on and on and

  20. on. He does quite a bit. He's got a wife and

  21. children. Maybe he can mention that, his children

  22. and his wife. And they're wonderful. I've met

  23. his family. So it's so good to have him here.

  24. And, again, he's going to tell you a little bit

  25. about CCA, and then I'll come back and share

  26. a message. So would you give him a warm welcome

  27. from LifeHouse? Thank you, Kev. Appreciate that.

  28. welcome. It is an absolute pleasure to be here

  29. among you this morning to talk about Carlisle

  30. Christian Academy. I am James Kozer. I'm the

  31. executive director here. I'm wrapping up my 11th

  32. year. at Carlisle Christian Academy. As executive

  33. director, basically what that means is I get

  34. to wear a lot of hats, okay? So when you're in

  35. a small school setting, pretty much all your

  36. staff wears a lot of hats, so we can be doing

  37. anything from meeting with staff to jumping in

  38. a classroom to fill in for a missing teacher

  39. to, hey, when the toilet gets clogged and there's

  40. nobody around, sometimes you got to do what you

  41. got to do. Like I said, wrapping up my 11th year,

  42. you know, Carlisle Christian Academy is super

  43. special to me because actually my oldest son,

  44. Elijah, started in Carlisle Christian Academy

  45. when he was in kindergarten, which was prior

  46. to me working here. And he is now a senior, will

  47. be graduating in just three weeks along with

  48. River Reynolds, who's here. Since that time then,

  49. I became executive director and have been able

  50. to have my other two children, Iriana and Alvin.

  51. Iriana is here this morning. They're in ninth

  52. and eighth grade. And it's such a blessing to

  53. be able to have my children in a school, not

  54. just that I work at, but a school that has been

  55. focused on proclaiming the gospel and making

  56. disciples since 1981. If we want to go to the

  57. second slide. I just want to first just be here

  58. to say thank you for this great partnership.

  59. You guys have an awesome pastor in Pastor Kip.

  60. And I could tell just from some of the initial

  61. meetings with him that, you know, we are like

  62. -minded ministries that just want to build God's

  63. kingdom. We really dovetail together when it

  64. comes to making disciples. And so being able

  65. to have a space that we get to share and partner

  66. with, obviously that helps both organizations

  67. with cost. You guys have been incredibly gracious

  68. with... putting in a new sound system, allowing

  69. us to have use of that for our chapels, our worship

  70. team. Your sound people helped last year with

  71. our graduation to live stream it, things like

  72. that. And so this is an incredible partnership

  73. that... You know, I think it's just one of those

  74. things that's mutually edifying, right? It's

  75. both organizations striving for the same thing

  76. and working together for the unique call of God

  77. to make disciples. Christian school is a unique

  78. vehicle for disciple making. I mean, when you

  79. run the numbers, right? So if we had a student

  80. with perfect attendance, 180 days of school equates

  81. to about 1 ,170 hours. per year, right? When

  82. you do the math there, 1 ,170 hours per year,

  83. plus on top of that, a lot of extracurricular

  84. activities, some sports teams, after school activities,

  85. those types of things. And so it becomes a really

  86. unique opportunity to really expose students

  87. to the knowledge of God. If we go to the third

  88. slide here, you know, we are a duly accredited

  89. organization. We serve kids in kindergarten through

  90. 12th grade. We're super excited because starting

  91. next year in August, we're bringing our elementary

  92. campus here, and we're going to be one unified

  93. campus. We've been in here for about three years

  94. with our secondary students, grades 6 through

  95. 12, and so we're excited that we are finally

  96. at the point where we can pull this all together,

  97. unify our student base, and we're excited because

  98. we got a lot of plans to get the older kids serving

  99. with the younger kids. types of things. We serve

  100. students from all over, but one of the unique

  101. distinctives about us as a Christian school is

  102. we're actually a mission -focused school. What

  103. that means is that we actually do not require

  104. parents to sign agreement to our statement of

  105. faith, and that's actually pretty unique for

  106. a Christian school. They do sign agreement understanding

  107. we will teach according to our statement of faith.

  108. But at the end of the day, if you're maybe just

  109. looking for a place where they're going to get

  110. some different. individualized instruction, a

  111. safe place where your kids are going to be safe

  112. from bullying, or for whatever reason, it's an

  113. opportunity for us to bring in families who maybe

  114. have no church background, no church exposure,

  115. and get those kids in, give them a great education,

  116. but have that education be centered around the

  117. knowledge of God and the truth of Jesus Christ.

  118. One of the things I try to make clear to people

  119. is that we aren't just a school that does some

  120. chapels and some Bible stuff. But we really integrate

  121. Bible into all course content. Our entire curriculum

  122. is just infused with God's truth. So even when

  123. you're in a science class, we are talking about

  124. God's design, God's creation, and what that means

  125. for us, right? What that means for us as believers

  126. and how we need to care for that world and care

  127. for the people around us. You can go to the next

  128. slide. We have so many stories of God's faithfulness,

  129. and I could go on and on and on, but Kip said

  130. some of you need to go to work tomorrow. So we're

  131. going to limit the stories here. And I was praying

  132. this morning, Lord, what story do you want me

  133. to tell? Because I feel like I could tell so

  134. many. And we have so many kids who are going

  135. on to do great stuff. But I want to tell the

  136. story of a kid named Paul, and I've changed his

  137. name. But Paul was a student who came to us from

  138. a public school setting. Paul was one of those

  139. kids who was just a little different. He was

  140. a little socially awkward, really struggled to

  141. fit in with other kids. If you diagnosed him,

  142. you'd say he's probably on the spectrum. And

  143. Paul had a horrendous experience in school where

  144. he felt like he was constantly picked on. He

  145. felt like his teachers weren't helping him out,

  146. these types of things. He came to us in 11th

  147. grade. We had two years to work with Paul. I

  148. remember Paul coming to me in the middle of his

  149. senior year. He said, I got great news for you,

  150. Mr. Kozer. I said, what's that, Paul? And he

  151. said, the doctor said I can come off my anxiety

  152. meds and my high blood pressure meds. And he

  153. said, it's all because of CCA. And it was just

  154. like, it hit me so hard. Thank you. It hit me

  155. so hard because, I mean, isn't that what it's

  156. about? You know, working with these kids and...

  157. and getting them into a place where they can

  158. find out who they are, right? Find out who God

  159. has designed them to be. Find out what God has

  160. called them to be. He would not be your typical

  161. success story about a kid going off to a high

  162. -end college, these types of things. But what

  163. I tell people, success at Carlisle Christian

  164. Academy looks like getting students to understand

  165. that they are a unique child of God and that

  166. God has a specific call on their lives, that

  167. God wants to use them. for his kingdom, right?

  168. And it looks different for every kid. We'll have

  169. some kids going off to college. We'll have some

  170. kids who are going right into the workforce,

  171. so on and so forth. But our heart and our desire

  172. is we want every kid after graduating at Carlisle

  173. Christian Academy to understand that they are

  174. a part of God's kingdom. And that's even greater

  175. than becoming a doctor. It's even greater than

  176. becoming a teacher or a plumber or whatever,

  177. that they are called. by God to be a part of

  178. his kingdom. We can go to the last slide here.

  179. I will be in the back afterwards, and I would

  180. love to talk to you more about who we are and

  181. what we do. I'll have information specifically

  182. about our school, as well as if you're a parent

  183. and you are interested in any summer camp options,

  184. we're going to be running an 11 -week summer

  185. camp, day camp here in this building. If you're

  186. interested in learning more about the summer

  187. camp as well, I'll have that information in the

  188. back. But just some simple ways that as we are

  189. partnered together, if you want to support us

  190. in our mission, we're always looking for prayer

  191. partners. Prayer matters. Prayer makes a huge

  192. difference. And I've seen it. We've got incredibly

  193. faithful people praying for the ministry of Carlisle

  194. Christian Academy. We're big on word of mouth.

  195. If you get opportunity, just tell someone. If

  196. you're with someone and they're talking about

  197. the struggles their kids have at school, just

  198. say, hey, maybe you want to check this out. We're

  199. not for everybody, but for some, we make a huge

  200. difference in their lives. If you're interested

  201. in volunteering at all ever, you want to spend

  202. some time with kids and impact their lives, touch

  203. their lives, we would be happy for that. We have

  204. a golf tournament coming up June 5th. If there's

  205. any golfers, I show up and embarrass myself.

  206. I'm actually really horrible at golf, but I do

  207. my best. And that golf tournament helps. with

  208. our fundraising and i'll just give this real

  209. quick plug i want to turn this into a marketplace

  210. but if you're interested in directing your pennsylvania

  211. state tax dollars to a scholarship that can help

  212. make cca affordable to a family there's actually

  213. a way you can do that and get a direct money

  214. to a scholarship organization that will help

  215. fund someone a student's tuition and you will

  216. get a 90 tax credit it's called the eitc tax

  217. credit program I'd be happy to talk with you

  218. about that. It's an easy way to give and support

  219. Carlisle Christian Academy. I just wanted to

  220. close with this verse. I was sitting here this

  221. morning. Lord, is there a verse you'd want me

  222. to share? And it's from Psalms 145, verse 4.

    Psalms 145:4

  223. And it says, one generation shall praise your

  224. works to another. and shall declare your mighty

  225. acts. I think if I had to sum Carlisle Christian

  226. Academy up into one verse, it'd probably be this,

  227. that I have a team of teachers who want to just

  228. declare the faithfulness of God, declare the

  229. mighty acts of God, declare the works of God

  230. to another generation so that they'll raise up

  231. and they'll be the next generation to tell their

  232. children. Again, thank you for the partnership.

  233. Thank you for not just being sharers of the building,

  234. right, co -tenants. We're so much more than that.

  235. We are co -laborers in Christ who are working

  236. towards building his kingdom. And so let me just

  237. pray for you guys real quick, and then I'll step

  238. off here. Lloyd, thank you so much. For Lifehouse

  239. Church, the ministry here, Pastor Kip, Pastor

  240. Alyssa, all those on the ministry team, and those

  241. who faithfully come and are a part of this church.

  242. Lord, bless them. Continue to grow this church.

  243. Grow them as disciples of Jesus Christ who go

  244. forth and really have a true, meaningful impact

  245. for God's kingdom. And Lord, just continue to...

  246. to reach into the hearts and minds of the people

  247. here, that they would be used for you as a light

  248. right here in Carlisle. And we pray this all

  249. in Jesus' name. Amen. Amen. Would you give him

  250. a hand? Thank you for being here again. James

  251. is going to be at the Connection Station. If

  252. you want to get more information, please stop

  253. by and talk with him. You can find more out about

  254. the school and all the great work that they do

  255. here at CCA. Super excited for that relationship

  256. just to continue and build all along the way.

  257. And I have found the secret to being a better

  258. golfer. The couple times a year I go out, I just

  259. find people who are worse than I am, and I go

  260. with them. And I feel great. But, yeah, I'm with

  261. you. I'm a hacker. It's terrible. Well, listen,

  262. a few weeks back, I attended my grandsons, one

  263. of my grandsons. Two of them play ball. They

  264. both play baseball. And I went to a Little League

  265. game, and we arrived at the field, and it was

  266. in the evening, and we began to get to the respective

  267. sides of the field that we were going to sit

  268. and watch Bennett play. And I remember sitting

  269. down. We get our chairs, right? You take all

  270. your stuff. You got your chair. You got your

  271. drink. hat, you got your sunglasses, you take

  272. everything that you're going to need, snacks,

  273. the whole nine yards because, you know, you're

  274. going to be there for days. And you get parked.

  275. And I remember sitting down at this field and

  276. looking across the field and realizing that the

  277. sun was directly across from us. So we were going

  278. to be staring out into the field at the sunshine,

  279. and the sun was beginning to go down. And the

  280. further it went, you know, we began to pour our

  281. hats down further and got our sunglasses. Everybody

  282. had their sunglasses on. And I was trying, all

  283. of us, We're over there trying to make out where

  284. Bennett was, you know, when he went out into

  285. the field. Because all these little boys, they're

  286. all dressed the same. They got the same uniform

  287. on. They're all about the same age. They're all

  288. about the same height. And they're going out

  289. into the field and scattering out across the

  290. field. And they teach these kids to bat and to

  291. catch and play different positions. They move

  292. them around sometimes. So we're looking for Bennett.

  293. And I can't see his back because he's facing

  294. us. Or I'd have known his number or his name

  295. on the back of his. And because the sun was so

  296. bright, we're screaming. and we're looking and

  297. we're like, I think that's Bennett out in right

  298. field. You know, one's like, nah, I think he's

  299. on second base. Nah, I think he's on right field.

  300. And we just watched for a little bit of time

  301. and we began to realize that in fact was Bennett

  302. out in right field. How did we know that? We

  303. couldn't make out his facial features because

  304. of the sunshine in our eyes. We couldn't see

  305. his name or number on the back of his shirt.

  306. But what we saw was how he carried himself. I

  307. saw how he stood. I saw how he moved around and

  308. walked. And it was his, as we looked, it was

  309. his movements. It was what he was doing that

  310. began to unmistakably understand that this is

  311. in fact Bennett out in right field. Couldn't

  312. see his face. Couldn't see his jersey number.

  313. Couldn't see his name. But we saw Bennett because

  314. of how he was standing, what he was doing with

  315. his hands. We're like, oh, unmistakably that.

  316. is Bennett. And it is the same way if you follow

  317. Jesus Christ. If someone, anyone is watching,

  318. there should be a defining quality that people

  319. see in you that gives you a way as a Jesus follower

  320. every time. If you got your Bibles, I want you

  321. to go to John chapter 13. We're going to start

    John 13 chapter mention

  322. off at verse 31. We've been working through the

  323. book of John now for some period of time. And

  324. Jesus names a characteristic in the book of John

  325. that is a dead giveaway if you are a follower

  326. of Jesus Christ. A defining feature of you that

  327. will let others know who you belong to. And I

  328. can tell you this. It's not a jacket. It's not

  329. a uniform. It's not a tattoo. It's not a flashing

  330. neon sign that's above your head pointing down

  331. to you saying that this is a Jesus follower.

  332. There's a quality that if someone's watching,

  333. they'll know. So as you turn to John 13, 31,

  334. I'm going to pray. If you would, bow your heads.

  335. Father, thank you for this time. God, I pray

  336. right now that you would anoint our ears. God,

  337. that you would anoint our hearts, our minds,

  338. that we would hear. God, that we would understand,

  339. that we would receive your word in Holy Spirit.

  340. Make alive the truth of God within us, that we

  341. might walk in the ways of God. And we pray this

  342. in Jesus' name. Everybody say it together. Amen.

  343. Are you with John? John chapter 13, say amen.

    John 13 chapter mention

  344. All right, good, good. Well, let me, just before

  345. we go into that scripture, real quickly, I want

  346. you to picture this. Jesus has trained his mentees,

  347. the 12 disciples that he's been walking with

  348. and talking with for three and a half years.

  349. They are now trained. They go and they spend

  350. a last supper together, the Passover meal, before

  351. Jesus would go to the cross and die and resurrect

  352. from the grave. And as soon as they leave the

  353. Passover meal together, Jesus begins to speak.

  354. to his disciples. He begins to give them some

  355. instruction. So John 13, 31 says this. So when

  356. he had gone out, Jesus said, now the son of man

  357. is glorified and God is glorified in him. If

  358. God is glorified in him, God will also glorify

  359. him in himself and glorify him immediately. Jesus

  360. starts off talking to them, and he's talking

  361. prophetically in nature. He's talking about himself.

  362. He's saying that once the plan of God unfolds,

  363. once I go to the cross, once I rise from the

  364. grave, I'm going to be glorified. My body's going

  365. to be glorified. I'm going to go back to my glorified

  366. state. And like so many things in life, right?

  367. The disciples who are walking with him and are

  368. listening to Jesus probably didn't fully understand

  369. what he meant by this. They probably didn't fully

  370. get their head around what Jesus was talking

  371. about when he said, I'm going to be glorified.

  372. How many know many times we do not understand

  373. sometimes what God is speaking to us on the front

  374. end of whatever we're going through? Amen? Sometimes

  375. you get a word from God. Sometimes you read a

  376. scripture. Sometimes something stands out to

  377. you, and you're on the front end of something,

  378. but it just, you know, you know what relates.

  379. You know what's for you. You know the Holy Spirit's

  380. problem, but you just don't fully know what it's

  381. for. You know it's God's party. How many know

  382. spiritually as well as in life, hindsight is

  383. 20 -20? When you get on the other side of something,

  384. you're like, oh, yeah, that's what that was about,

  385. right? Oh, now I see what God was doing. Oh,

  386. right? We do that. And what I'm saying is, sometimes

  387. you need to hear the Word of God, grab a hold

  388. of what He's telling you on the front end, and

  389. don't let go of it. Whether it's a scripture,

  390. whether it's a word, grab a hold of whatever

  391. God is speaking prophetically in your life, because

  392. you're going to need it, because you're going

  393. to go through the fire sometimes. And how many

  394. of you know when you're in the fire, you can't

  395. see? When you're in the fire, everything's fresh,

  396. everything's hot, everything's right in front

  397. of you, everything's distracting you, everything's

  398. against you. Hang on to the word of God. Now,

  399. I know this is a little sidetrack I got on, but

  400. I felt like this morning somebody needs to hear

  401. what I'm talking about. It is the word of God

  402. that gives us hope. It is the word of God that

  403. holds us up when everything's pulling us down.

  404. It is the word of God that will build you up

  405. and keep you from crumbling. And Jesus' disciples

  406. will not fully understand what he's talking about

  407. with his glorification with him and one day with

  408. us until they get on the other side of the crucifixion

  409. and the resurrection. Let's go back to verse

  410. 33. If that word was for you this morning, grab

  411. ahold of that and write it down, all right? John

  412. 13, 33, Jesus continues, and he says this. Little

  413. children, I shall be with you a little while

  414. longer. You will seek me, and as I said to you,

  415. as I said, and as I said to the Jews, where I'm

  416. going, you cannot come. So now I say to you.

  417. a new commandment I give to you, that you love

  418. one another as I have loved you, that you also

  419. love one another. By this, all will know that

  420. you are my disciples if you have love one for

  421. another. Jesus says that there is something,

  422. there is something that people observe, there's

  423. something that people see that will make you

  424. unmistakably his. There's an identifying mark

  425. that truly makes you a follower of Jesus Christ,

  426. and everybody knows it. There's an attribute

  427. that is so pronounced in your life that when

  428. people see it, who are on the outside looking

  429. on the inside, they're going to be like, yep,

  430. I know who they belong to. I know who they're

  431. a part of. These are Jesus people I'm looking

  432. at, right? What is that unmistakable attribute?

  433. Jesus says it clear, right? By this, all will

  434. know that you are my disciples. My followers,

  435. if you have love, right, if you have love for

  436. one another, if we love our brothers and sisters

  437. in Christ, we are unmistakably his. If we love

  438. the way that Jesus says we should love, if we

  439. love the way Jesus did love. If you love me and

  440. I love you, I almost broke into the Barney song

  441. when I started thinking about this. How many

  442. remember Barney? Yeah. It's over and over in

  443. my head again and again and again, right? But

  444. it is. It's the way you love me and I love you.

  445. People will know us by that. When those who are

  446. on the outside of the church, staring on the

  447. inside of the church, what does it look like?

  448. It is not your Jesus t -shirt. It is not your

  449. Jesus bumper sticker, and I'm all for all that.

  450. It's not even because we meet in this building

  451. a couple times a week or at our other location

  452. a couple times a week. They should know that

  453. we belong to him because of how we carry ourselves.

  454. When they're squinting into the sun, right, and

  455. looking from a distance, and they can't even

  456. see your face, but they see how you carry yourself.

  457. They see what you do. They see the rhythm in

  458. your life. They see how you treat other believers.

  459. If we do this right, they should squint and stare

  460. and then declare that we follow Jesus. I worked

  461. on that all week, all right? It rhymes, right?

  462. They should squint, stare, and then declare that

  463. they follow Jesus, truly. Church, this is not

  464. optional in God's Word, right? Loving other Jesus

  465. followers like Jesus loved me is not optional.

  466. Jesus said, this is a new commandment that I

  467. give you, that you love one another as I have

  468. loved you, that you also love one another. A

  469. commandment is a law. A commandment is an order.

  470. It is not a suggestion. It wasn't Jesus making

  471. a nice suggestion like, this would be super nice,

  472. church, if we would just all get along and love

  473. one another. That's not what he was saying. This

  474. is a command. This was not a symbolic utopian

  475. idea of some kind that would be super nice, right?

  476. And it would look great if it looked like this.

  477. That was not what he was saying. He said, this

  478. is a commandment. This is what it's supposed

  479. to look like. This is what we're supposed to

  480. do. And he didn't leave anything to chance when

  481. he said this. He told us what we were supposed

  482. to do, right? I'm supposed to love you and you're

  483. supposed to love me. Then he said, this is how

  484. you're supposed to do it. He didn't even leave

  485. that to chance. He said, you're going to love

  486. others like I love you. That's what it's going

  487. to look like. He told me what to do and how to

  488. do it. Complete clarity in this command. No room

  489. for shifting this way or shifting that way or

  490. adding my own definition. And many times, right,

  491. as individuals, we're completely down with the

  492. first part of this scripture. Well, I love you,

  493. but. But we won't even consider the first part,

  494. the second part of it. I can love you. Now, I

  495. don't mind loving you if I can love you my way.

  496. We're all about that my way kind of generation,

  497. right? I love you, I just have to do it my way,

  498. right? I did determine what the extent of those

  499. parameters of my love will be. I make sure that

  500. my love for you fits my lifestyle, right? My

  501. personality, maybe my schedule. That I love you

  502. means I determine how close to you I get or I

  503. don't get. I decide how much loving you is gonna

  504. cost me. And how much I'm not really willing

  505. to spend. I love you if I want to. That's not

  506. what he's talking about. And when I hit my limit,

  507. right? When I hit my limit of loving you, peace

  508. out. I'm out of here. I don't mind loving you

  509. like that. But that's not what Jesus was talking

  510. about. That's not what he was saying. It's a

  511. whole other thing to take the second part of

  512. this. That means that my stuff, my style, my

  513. ridiculous considerations or limitations, they're

  514. garbage. They don't mean a thing. You can forget

  515. my opinions. I know everybody's got an opinion

  516. online these days, probably multiple opinions,

  517. but my opinion doesn't matter. My judgments do

  518. not matter, right? How I view a relationship

  519. does not matter. This is, Jesus said, this is

  520. how you're going to do it. This is what it's

  521. supposed to look like. This is what he spoke

  522. to us. This is required behavior of the church,

  523. and it is not optional. It's mandated by our

  524. King, by our Lord, by our Savior. And this is

  525. the unmistakable identity of a Jesus follower,

  526. that we love each other. Now, as I read this,

  527. this should probably terrify us just a little

  528. bit, right? If you're thinking like me, this

  529. seems like almost an impossible mandate. This

  530. seems like a very hard thing to fulfill. How

  531. can I love you as much as Jesus loves you? Right?

  532. How do I do that? This doesn't even seem like

  533. a reasonable request by Jesus. I can't love others

  534. like Jesus loves them. I can't even get close.

  535. I'm not even sure I love myself like Jesus loves

  536. me, let alone loving you like Jesus loves you.

  537. And as I look at this, I feel like sometimes

  538. when I'm looking at this, I'm like, ah, right?

  539. If I try to do this, I might be a fake. I might

  540. be a fraud of some kind. I came across this little

  541. article this week. And just when you think you

  542. heard it all, how many know you haven't heard

  543. it all? Yeah, I came across this article. And

  544. it's just a little strange article. It says,

  545. models who look like Jesus are in high demand

  546. in Utah. True story. All right. A growing number

  547. of people in the state of Utah feel like a picture

  548. isn't complete without Jesus. They're hiring

  549. Jesus lookalikes for family portraits and wedding

  550. announcements. Models are showing up to walk

  551. with newly engaged couples through a field, play

  552. with young children in the Bonneville salt flats,

  553. and cram in with a family for the annual Christmas

  554. card. Bob Sagers, this is one of the guys, was

  555. walking around at an indie music festival in

  556. Salt Lake City when a friendly stranger approached

  557. and asked for his number. Has anyone ever told

  558. you that you have a Jesus look to you? The man

  559. asked. According to Sagers, a 25 -year -old who

  560. works at a grocery store. It wasn't a pickup

  561. line. The man's wife was an artist looking for

  562. religious models. I didn't really get that a

  563. lot, he said. This is what Sager said to him.

  564. I don't really get this a lot because I'm six

  565. foot five, dirty blonde, shoulder length hair,

  566. and a beard who says I kind of have an Irish

  567. Scandinavian vibe. I'm a pretty tall Jesus, he

  568. said. And so it was that Sagers began a side

  569. hustle as a savior. Since being recruited about

  570. four years ago, Sagers has posted as Jesus nearly

  571. a dozen times. Others have done so charging $100

  572. to $200 an hour to get pictures with children,

  573. family, couples, and various locations in the

  574. beehive state, right? I don't think that's what

  575. Jesus had in mind. I don't know about you. I

  576. don't think that's what, you know, and I don't

  577. think Jesus called us to be posing, you know,

  578. as Christians are certainly not posing as little

  579. Jesus, right? Frotting it up, making it look

  580. good. But I got to say, when I read the scripture

  581. sometimes, you know, Lord, I don't want to be

  582. a poser in this because you mandated this. You

  583. called me. How in the world do I love others

  584. like Jesus loves me? How do I do that? How do

  585. I fill this mandate? I mean, seriously. And I

  586. know, right, we can do what we normally do. We're

  587. just going to give it our best shot, right? We're

  588. going to get all inspired in the Sunday message,

  589. and we're just going to give it the old college

  590. try. We're going to give it our best shot, right?

  591. Or maybe I put on a robe, right, and a sash and

  592. go charge $100 an hour to get pics, right? Maybe

  593. I need to get in character to do all this. How

  594. do I do this? And the problem is, honestly, as

  595. I look around this room, I don't see any Jesus

  596. lookalikes. I really don't. Toby, you're the

  597. closest. Right back there, all right? He's got

  598. the beard. He's the closest I got. How do I do

  599. this? Because it's not optional. It's mandated

  600. by Jesus. I think Jesus gave us the answer in

  601. Matthew 11, 25. It says this, at that time, Jesus

  602. answered and said, I thank you, Father, Lord

  603. of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these

  604. things from the wise and the prudent and have

  605. revealed them to babes. Even so, Father, for

  606. so it seemed good in your sight. All things have

  607. been delivered to me by my father, and no one

  608. knows the son except the father, nor does anyone

  609. know the father except the son, and the one to

  610. whom the son wills to reveal him. Come to me,

  611. all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I

  612. will give you rest. The word of God says, take

  613. my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am

  614. gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find

  615. rest for your souls, for my yoke is easy and

  616. my burden is light. Jesus said this. Every time

  617. I get what looks like an impossible mandate from

  618. scripture, from God himself, I need to remind

  619. myself of this verse. The only way I can love

  620. you like I'm supposed to love you so it looks

  621. like Jesus is that I have to be first yoked to

  622. Jesus. I've got to be connected with Jesus. Willpower,

  623. self -empowerment, cheering myself on, sticking

  624. up sticky notes of scriptures, and I highly recommend

  625. you do this, but sticking up sticky notes of

  626. scriptures on your mirror are not going to cut

  627. it when it comes to this. It is so much more

  628. than that. Self -help never gets me anywhere

  629. in the kingdom of God. It really doesn't, except

  630. frustrated and dwelling in the land of failure

  631. many times, truly. If we try to do what Jesus

  632. says to do on our own power, we will only wear

  633. ourselves out and fail. We will get disillusioned.

  634. We will get frustrated. And Jesus made it so

  635. clear and so simple in these verses. You want

  636. to do what seems impossible to do? Because loving

  637. you like Jesus kind of seems impossible, right?

  638. Doing that all the time. All you have to do is

  639. get yoked to me. who I'm tied to, who I'm connected

  640. with, who I'm abiding with and in. He said it,

  641. right? Come to me, all you who labor and are

  642. heavy laden, the difficult, the impossible thing,

  643. and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you

  644. and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly

  645. at heart, and you will find rest for your souls,

  646. for my yoke is easy. Say easy. And my burden,

  647. It's light. He says it's light. Doing the impossible

  648. and making it all look easy is not about all

  649. your extra effort in something. It really isn't.

  650. You're not going to get there that way. It's

  651. not me upping my personal gain. Right? I just

  652. got to get my game on. It's not about me looking

  653. in and being the man or you, the woman in the

  654. mirror, whoever you are. It's not about my education

  655. or knowledge, and I'm all for education and knowledge

  656. and expanding. I read all the time. But it really

  657. is about getting yoked with the one who has all

  658. the power. Sometimes it's about getting yoked

  659. with the one who has all the power and just breathe

  660. it, relax it. I'm going to get you to do this

  661. right now. Ready? We're going to take a breath

  662. in together. Ready? Do it again. You can't even

  663. do that by yourself. It's him. Right? We never

  664. do this beyond ourselves. We're not capable.

  665. We can't do it. Your willpower isn't going to

  666. do it. It's not what I can do. It's who I'm yoked

  667. with. Worship team, if you'd come. Yoked means

  668. this. Yoke means tied to. Yoke means connected

  669. to. Yoke means strapped together with. Yoke means

  670. abiding. And if I had to give you a picture,

  671. some of you maybe have seen that old picture

  672. of maybe two oxen together, and they got that

  673. wooden yoke that goes across their back and ties

  674. them together. Or maybe something that might

  675. be a little more relevant or modern is a team

  676. of horses that are pulled together with straps

  677. and bars, and they're tied together. And it is

  678. the power, right, of them being yoked together

  679. that they can do the impossible. They will tell

  680. you if you take one horse and hook up weights

  681. to it and get it to pull, it can pull X amount

  682. of weight. If you hook up two horses, you think

  683. it would be double the weight that it would pull,

  684. but it actually triples or quadruples the weight

  685. that two horses can pull. Well, in this case,

  686. you're yoking up to somebody who has unlimited

  687. power. Unlimited. As a matter of fact, my power,

  688. if you take my power compared to Jesus' power,

  689. I have no power. If I could give you a picture,

  690. it'd be like Jesus putting on the yoke and then

  691. I get on the yoke and my feet are just dangling.

  692. I'm just hanging from it. That's what it looks

  693. like, right? It's all him. It's the power of

  694. being yoked. I experienced this idea of being

  695. yoked in high school. I sat beside this girl

  696. named Barb who was intellectually superior to

  697. me in school. She really was. And Barb and I

  698. were friends. And the reason we were friends

  699. is because back then when you went to class,

  700. they sat you alphabetically and her last name

  701. was close to mine in last name. So we had multiple

  702. classes together and Barb was always sitting

  703. somewhere right around me. So we got to know

  704. each other and we got to be friends. And Barb

  705. was smart. She really was. And we had these two

  706. particular classes that we were both in. And

  707. actually in the one class, she was intellectually

  708. superior to me. But in the other class, I was

  709. intellectually superior to her. And we came up

  710. with this great idea. We need to help each other

  711. out just a little bit, right? And I don't recommend

  712. this, but you know. Through that semester, Barb

  713. really helped me out with a class that I thought

  714. I was going to miserably fail. And I helped her

  715. out with a class that she thought she was going

  716. to miserably fail. And together, we got an awesome

  717. grade in both classes. We really did. But the

  718. point was this, right? The point was that if

  719. you're connected with somebody that has superior

  720. power, superior intellect, superior in every

  721. kind of way, You can do the impossible, not because

  722. of you, but because of them. And Jesus came and

  723. he said, my yoke is easy and my burden is light

  724. because when you connect, when you abide with

  725. me, I have all the resources you need. I have

  726. all the power you need. I have all the answers

  727. that you need. I've got it all. All I have to

  728. do is abide. All I've got to do is stay yoked.

  729. And it gets easier and it gets lighter. I'm not

  730. going to tell you everything's going to be easy

  731. in life. I'm telling you, if you get yoked, think

  732. about being yoked to somebody. Pretend you're

  733. that animal, right? When you're yoked to somebody,

  734. they're right next to you. They're right beside

  735. you every step of the way. If you're yoked with

  736. somebody, you hear every word. that is spoken

  737. with the one that's beside you. If you're yoked

  738. with somebody, you feel the pull of the other

  739. person. You feel the power of the one that's

  740. beside you. You will have reverence for the sheer

  741. ability and knowledge of the one you're yoked

  742. to. If you're yoked to somebody, you're in a

  743. safe spot, right? If you're yoked, you do exactly

  744. what he does. Exactly. It is in the yoke where

  745. it becomes easy, squeezy, lemon breezy. With

  746. Jesus. My nephew used to say that all the time.

  747. It's in my head. It's in the yoke. It's in the

  748. yoke. I'm going to ask you to stand. When Jesus

  749. gives us commands, and he does, in Scripture

  750. that are not optional for followers of Jesus

  751. Christ. And you think it's an impossible thing

  752. to do. It is on your own. In your own power,

  753. in your own strength, in your own whatever you

  754. got, motz, right? Whatever you got, beat your

  755. chest all you want. It is not until you yoke

  756. with the Master that you'll begin to walk step

  757. in step. It's not until you yoke with the master

  758. that the Holy Ghost, the Holy Spirit begins to

  759. speak into your spirit. You start to step where

  760. he steps. You start to hear what he speaks. You

  761. start to know which direction he'll go. You start

  762. to understand the safety that's in this right

  763. beside the master. I never said it was going

  764. to be easy. I just said his yoke is easy. He'll

  765. carry you through the hard thing. When you're

  766. in the fire and you can't see. When the flames

  767. are all around you and the heat's on you and

  768. the pressure's on, and it's easy when you're

  769. not in the pressure, but when the pressure of

  770. life comes and the situation, circumstances,

  771. I don't know if you've ever gotten a place where

  772. you're like, how in the world did I get here?

  773. How in the world am I in the middle of whatever's

  774. going on? It might not even be your mess. It

  775. might be somebody, how did I get here? What am

  776. I supposed to do with this? It's in that spot.

  777. You need to understand, you're yoked to the master.

  778. More than ever, you stand. quietly yoke to him.

  779. You stand as close as you can, and you wait for

  780. his instruction. You look where he says to go,

  781. right? When he points that way, you go that direction.

  782. When you feel his pull, you move with his pull.

  783. That's how the Spirit guides us and directs us.

  784. We're people of the Spirit. When it's impossible,

  785. what makes you unmistakably his is that we hear

  786. his voice, We stay yoked and we love one another

  787. like he loved. Amen? I'm going to ask you to

  788. bow your heads. Now, here's what I know for sure.

  789. As God began to bring this alive in my heart

  790. and in my spirit, as I began to look at these

  791. verses, there are some in the house. You're either

  792. in the fire, you've been in the fire, you're

  793. walking into the fire, or you're somewhere on

  794. your way out of the fire. But you're tired, you're

  795. weary. You've been fighting something on your

  796. own, maybe something hidden in your life, and

  797. you've been fighting, and you've been fighting,

  798. and you've been fighting, and you're wore out.

  799. Good. Because when you get wore out, you stand

  800. still. When you get wore out, you start to look

  801. up instead of looking in. If that's you in the

  802. house, That's you in the house this morning.

  803. You're never going to be able to love like you

  804. need to love. You're never going to be able to

  805. walk like you need to walk if you don't say yote

  806. to the master. And our first inclination as humans,

  807. I don't know why it is, but when we get in the

  808. heat, we tend to run from God and say the exact

  809. opposite that we need to do. So if you're here

  810. in the house and your head's bowed and your eyes

  811. are closed, I want anyone looking around, if

  812. that's you, And you know this message is speaking

  813. and pulling on you. I want you to raise your

  814. hand up, put it right back down. I'm just going

  815. to pray for you this morning. Just going to pray

  816. for you. That's all. Thank you. Thank you for

  817. all the honesty in the house. Thank you for the

  818. honesty. Thank you. I want you to look back up,

  819. church. I'm going to pray in a moment. Stay yoked.

  820. Now more than ever. Man, I am reading about what's

  821. taking place in the world around us. I'm reading

  822. what's taking place in AI. I'm reading about

  823. the shifts that are about to take place in the

  824. next 18 to 24 months in the world around us.

  825. You better stay yoked up to Jesus, right? The

  826. Word of God tells us that in the last days, great

  827. delusion is going to come. There's going to be

  828. great delusion. There's going to be things that

  829. will draw and pull on us, and we'll get deluded

  830. in our thinking. Don't do it. If you stay near

  831. the master, you're going to hear him speaking

  832. in your ear the truth of God. You're going to

  833. be able to wade through some of the garbage that

  834. you're going to see, that the enemy is going

  835. to put in front of you. And if you're here, draw

  836. in. Submit to God. Here's the big deal, right?

  837. You've got to submit to get yoked. I don't know

  838. if you've ever been tied in the middle of something

  839. or tied up to somebody, maybe handcuffed to somebody.

  840. Don't raise your hand. But you've got to submit.

  841. You can't fight. Let's pray. Father, I thank

  842. you for each person in the house. I thank you

  843. for those who are listening online this morning.

  844. God, your word is quick and powerful, and it

  845. is sharper than a two -edged sword. Lord, we

  846. draw in today. God, we pull in close to you.

  847. God, we submit our hearts, our lives. God, if

  848. there's been an area where I've just been fighting

  849. you, I've been fighting it on my own. I've been

  850. looking to myself. I've been trying to self -improve.

  851. I've been trying to do all these things. I'm

  852. just letting go, God, and I'm tying to you. Lord,

  853. I'm gonna do what you say to do. I'm gonna live

  854. like you say to live. I'm gonna walk like you

  855. say to walk. I'm gonna pray like you tell me

  856. to pray. I'm gonna speak how you tell me to speak.

  857. Lord, I'm just gonna, I'm not leaving your side

  858. because I gotta abide in you. If I'm going to

  859. make it through this thing, if I'm going to get

  860. through and come out the other side, Lord, alive.

  861. God, if I'm going to come out the other side

  862. in you, God, I'm going to stay right next to

  863. you. I'll make that commitment in my heart. God,

  864. I confess, Lord, that I've been trying to do

  865. this on my own. I repent today. I turn and go

  866. a different direction today, which is right beside

  867. you. I'm going to love like I'm supposed to love,

  868. not because I got it in me, but because I'm in

  869. you. And I thank you, Lord. In Jesus' name, amen

  870. and amen. The defining mark of a believer that

  871. makes you unmistakably his is that you are yoked

  872. to Christ. You walk like he walks. You talk like

  873. he talks. And when the world is looking into

  874. the sunlight, squinting, squinting. For some

  875. reason, I go saying, man, something about that

  876. person. I think they know Jesus. Amen? It's true.

  877. I want you to sing one last song with Zach. He's

  878. going to close us out in prayer. Give you an

  879. opportunity in the house. If you don't know Jesus,

  880. he's going to give you that opportunity. You

  881. can know him today. Thank you for tuning in to
