Exalted Expectations - Bro Caleb Roadcap 7-26-2023

Thank the little for my things, the sweet presence in this house. If

he would be turning to Isaiah chapter twenty. Also, like brother Thing has

already said, we do desperate. We miss our pastor and his wife.

Their accidents felt, both their prayers are also felt. I'm very thankful this

opportunity and the confidence that our pastor has the opportunity to preach. Of Isaiah

twenty. Verses five and six says that they shall be afraid and ashamed of

Ethiopia their expectation, and of Egypt their glory. And the inhabitants of this

isle shall say in that day, behold, such is our expectation, whether

we flee for help to be delivered from the King of Assyria, and how

shall we escape great I'm gonna reading this again. There's a word that stood

out to me. Last week during our fastest, we were praying and reading

more than fastening. There. I was reading this chapter and this word stood

out to me. And they shall be afraid and ashamed of Ethiopia their expectation,

and of each of their glory, and the inhabitant of this I shall

say that day, behold, such is our expectation, whether we flee for

help to be delivered from the king of Assyria, and how shall we escape?

You look over, keep a thumb in Isaiah, because we're going to

come back here for a bit of reading later. But in Josiah chapter seven,

verses ten through twelve, and the pride of Israel testified to his face,

and they do not return to the Lord their God, Nord seek him

for all this Iphraim also is like a silly dove without heart. They call

to Egypt, they go to Assyria. When they shall go, I will

spread my dead upon them. I will bring them down as the fouls of

heaven. I will chastise them as their congregation hath heard. Our main texton

that's tonight from the Book of Isaiah, and Isaiah is known as one of

the major prophets. This book is also the second is second and second place

for having the most chapters in the Bible. Isaiah had actively ministered during the

reign of five different kings, and he prophesied to Judom. It's important to

note that Isaiah, by God was told that the people wouldn't listen to what

he had to say and what he had to write, but yet he was

obedient anyways to what God had to do our co text was from the book

of Josiah. He was a contemporary of Isaiah, meaning that he was preaching

and prophesying and writing at the same time as Isaiah. But he was a

prophet to Israel, the northern part of the Kingdom, because at this time

the nation of Israel was divided. In both passages we see that nations are

putting their trust in somebody else and something else. But Josiah said that it

was silly and foolish that for Ephraim to put its trust in Egypt. And

Isaiah says that this city of Asdod, that they would be ashamed for putting

their trust in somebody else. And if the Lord would help me tonight,

I'd like to preach on exalted expectations real quick, just to find these words.

To exalt means to raise up in rank and empower and a character.

It means to elevate by praise or estimation, to glorify something. Your expectation

is a strong belief that something will happen or that the or that it will

be the case future. You could say that if you expect something happened,

you hope it's going to happen. You believe, you have faith that it's

going to happen. So going forward tonight on n't you ask yourself what are

you exalting or praising in your life? What are you believing in? What

are you trusting for the future? As a Christian, it should be simple.

We put all of our faith in Christ, Jesus and God our Father.

In this twentieth chapter of Isaiah, He's prophesied from the city of Ashdad

Ashdod. This city was a part of the nation of the Philistines. They

find themselves being taken over by the Assyrians. They fled to Egypt and Ethiopia

for help, but ultimately they were let down. We see that it says

that it would be that they're shame and they would be afraid when you over

and over we read on the children of Israel. They put their faith in

God. So many times when they faced enemies that they couldn't conquer on their

own, they trusted in God. They obeyed what God had to say.

There was times with Joshua when they went to Jericho and the walls were so

taught. It didn't see why they could do anything about it. They didn't

have the power to saying against it. And yet when God told him to

walk, they walked. They had faith in God, they were obedient.

When God said to walk around quietly, they walked round fietly. When he

said walk around seven times, they walked around seven times. When he said

shout, they shouted. And second Chronicles, King Jehosaphat told the people that

they had to believe God, and they'd be established believe the prophets, and

that they prosper. So then he appointed singers to go forth before the army

and to praise God and God's and ambushments against Amnon and Mohab. But so

often, though after they've seen, they've experienced, God moved for them so

many times, they put their expectation in God so many times. But yet

often we see them turning from God, turn into idols, turn into themselves.

The last few verses of Osea, which is where Ephraim was told that

he was silly and foolish for trust in Egypt, and says, woe into

them, for they have fled from me destruction unto them, because they have

transgressed against me. Though I have redeemed them, yet they have spoken lies

against me, and they have not cried into me with their heart. When

they howled upon their beds, they assembled together for corn and wine. They

have rebelt against me, though I bound and strengthened their arms. Yet do

they imagine mischief against me? They returned, but not to the most high.

They were like a deceitful bow. Their princesses shall fall by the sword.

For the range of their tongue. They shall be their derision in the

land of Egypt. The derision is mocking, it's scorning, and it's just

like the city of Ashdod. What happened was they put their faith in somebody

else. They put their trust in somebody else, And what happened was the

Assyrians came in and they shaved off their beards, and they cut down their

garments, and they made them walk in shame. And it's what this says.

Right here, there'll be ashamed because they turned away from me and they

turned into something else. In Chapter twenty of Isaiah, this chapter is also

a prophecy to Ethiopia and Egypt because they horrified in themselves. They trusted themselves

that they had the power to help somebody else. But yet they would go

from being assured to ashamed sadly this chapter before in chapter nineteen we read about

Egypt. There was a prophecy went forth that they would know the Lord.

There was a prophecy went forth that God said he would send them a savior

and a great one, and he would deliver them. And yet the next

chapter over we see them turning, We see them putting their assurance and their

expectation and something else. And as chapter thirty, verses one through five wote

to the rebellious children, say that the Lord that take counsel, but not

of me, that cover with a covering, but not of my spirit.

That they may add sin us him that walk down that walk, to go

down to Egypt, and have not asked my mouth to strengthen themselves in the

strength of Pharaoh and to trust in the shadow of Egypt. Therefore, shall

the strength of Pharaoh be your shame, and the trust in the shadow of

Egypt your confusion for his princes. Where a Zoan and his ambassadors came to

hand, and they were all ashamed of the people that could not profit them,

nor help them, nor nor help nor profit, but a shame and

also a reproach. We often relate Egypt to this world. Trusting in the

things of this world, prioritizing it, lifting it up, exhauting it.

It only leads to shame and confusion in the end the world. So many

people in the world today, they'll say on the inside, some of them

hide that, some of them are open about it. They say they don't

understand things. They thought they had it all together. Now they have nothing

but confusion. There's no profit, there's no gain from the things that they

put their trust in, their hope beyond. But oh, that they would

just turn to Jesus, they would just turn to God and exalt him,

glorify him, put him on the top of the lift, and put their

trust and their expectation in him, that he can help and he can deliver

from whatever it is that is binding them, whether it's men's, whether it's

physical, where it's financial. As they to thirty one verses one, and

then going to verse three, it says, woe to them that go down

to Egypt for help and stay on horses and trust in chariots because they are

many, and in horsemen because they are very strong. But they look not

to the Holy One of Israel, neither seek the Lord. Verse three.

Now the Egyptians are men and not God. Their horses are flesh and not

spirit. When the Lord shall stretch out him, both he that help his

shall fall, and he that is hope and shall fall, and they shall

fail together. This is just like when the Assyrians came in. They stripped

not only ask God the people that they would say can over, but when

they fled to Egypt, when they fled to Ethiopia for help, those two

people were also pulled down and made to walk in shame. The Romans five

five is for the Christian. It says, hope they can not ashamed.

Hope and who hoping God, hopeing Christ, Jesus, our Savior, our

deliverer, the one who has what we need and what our families need.

Hope may cod not a shame, because the love of God has should have

brought in our hearts by the Holy Ghost, which he had to get,

which is given unto us. As I was reading, there's so many times

throughout the Bible where it says not to trust in Egypt, not to trust

in the strength of Egypt, not to trust in the horses. It's referenced

throughout a lot of the Bible. On Psalms twenty and seven is a verse

that it's a memory verse of mind, and it came to mind the lot.

Some trust in chariots and some in horses. But we will remember the

name of the Lord, our God Proverbs three to five. We can all

quote it, and then going into verse six, trust in the Lord,

with all thy heart leading on to thine own understanding, and all thy ways

acknowledge him, and he shall direct that past. I don't put my trust.

I don't put my expectation, my hope in money or wealth. I

don't put it in myself. I don't put any stock in myself to have

the answer of my own self. I don't put it in some priests.

I don't put it in an evol like the Muslims. I don't put it

in some other religious man of that kind. I don't put it in my

education. I don't put it in this government. So an extent, I

don't put it in doctors, because the ultimate is that we trust in God.

Now we need money to for things. We need doctors at times.

We need an education. We need our government, we need our police force.

We need the people to do their job to be over us and to

direct us. But ultimately, our hope, our trust, the final authority

is in Jesus Christ and in God, our Father. Our expectation should be

in him, and we should exalt him as well and keep him at the

forefront and keep him glorified in our life. And this is what God working

on. I mean, my expectation is based on experience. We have the

testimonies of the Bible. We've seen time and time again where God met with

his people, he won mores for his people. There's so many times they

didn't have to do anything but obey and God moved. There are so many

times where Jesus healed people, the blind, the lame, the sick,

he raised the dead. There's testimos all on the Bible. We had modern

day testimonies like Pastor talked about. We saw just ring convention, several healed.

We've seen our brothers and sisters and experienced ourselves the dwelling of the Holy

Ghost to give their salvation. And then so we have testimos in the Bible,

testimos from mothers, and we have our own testimonies. We've seen God

move for us in some way, so why would we not expect him to

move in something else? That we need. There's a Joseph Habiting song and

the lyric went running through the head over and over again and said, I

have no doubt my God can do the impossible. I know he can because

I've seen him do it. It goes on to say he can take this

mess and turn it into a miracle because our God is greater than every situation.

It's it's basic Christianity. It's something we've all heard, but yet it's

so true, and it's a truth that we must hold on to. It

came after us this or I'll testified the other night Sunday night. I'm sure

a hundred percent of people here would say that their trust is in Jesus,

that they're trust in God for whatever they've done. And I'm not doubting anybody

who says it, because I believe everybody here would say that. Everybody here

believes that. But does your body language, does your words? Does it

reflect it? Does your smile testify to the world, Does it testify to

your doctor? Does it testify to your banker that you believe God to move?

Does your reaction to the things of this life reflects that your trust is

in Jesus no matter what comes. I got to praying, and I thought

maybe this was a testimony or another sermon on this thought, but I realized

that it it kind of tied everything back in and brought it to a close.

If you find yourself trusting in something else, if you find yourself exalting

something else, strange just a little bit. Pastor preshed so wonderfully about the

forsaken language and coming back to prayer and coming back to God. And I

got to thinking about if you've lost that that trust that we know that God

is able, but to practice that, if you would reconcile and if you

would rekindle that fire. I got to think about it the Old Testament in

Leviticus and talk about a fire that would continuously be burning. Then it acts.

We have a New Testament example of there was a tongue of fire when

they received it was at the beginning of the New Covenant. There was a

fire burning, at the beginning of of the acts of the Holy Ghost.

There was the fire. And if we could just get back to where we

truly just trust and believe God revelations to the verse four and five. Nevertheless,

I have someone against thee because that was left thy first love. Remember

therefore, from whence thou art falling repent, do thy first works. Where

else I'll coming to thee quickly, and we'll remove that candlestick out of this

place, except thou rege I mentioned that verse about some make trust and chariots,

and some in horses. This verse, this chapter and Song's twenty it

talks about calling on Gofer his help. The Lord hear thee in the day

of trouble. The name of the God of Jacob, defend thee. Send

THEE help out of the sanctuary, and strengthen thee out design remember all that

offerings and accept that burnt sacrifice the according to thine own heart, and fulfill

all thy counsel. We will rejoice in thy salvation and in the name of

our God. Where we set up our banners, the Lord fulfill thy petitions.

Now know I that the Lord's Sakereth is anointed. He will hear him

from his holy heaven with a saving strength of his right hand. Some trust

in chariots and some in horses, but we will remember the name of the

Lord, our God. They are brought down and fallen, but we are

risen and stand upright. Save Lord. Let the king hear us when we

call. I'm expecting God to hear me when I called. So I will

taught him and say, great is the Lord, and greatly to he braved

Ray would stand for you, come and make an altar. It's all about

him. It's all about him. I don't put my trust in this world.

Like I said, I don't put my trust in myself. But it's

our kay. It's the one that we serve. He's got the answers for

everything, as Theah for you two. As we begin to pray Verse eight,

I am the Lord. That is my name, my glory. Will

I not give to another neither my praise to grave and images. He is

the Lord, and He's got everything that we cary. I have been held

bin saying I fell fire from the bar being down to the river, and

I ain't the same protocol reach mine. Ain't my my sins are either fine.

Jesus ain't gone yesterday. Oh I see John Washtye. I'm no stranger.

The princes corn shackles and ra been free forgive. I'm not going back.

I've never been the same busy. Jesus ain't got my baby gone.

I've been washed by the Jesus, ain't goday. I've been washed five love,

I've been hell by the same you, and I feel fire from the

So musing Jesus, thank God, by oh forgive. I've been watched

by using Jesus, thank God and my sincere for I've been way. I'm
