Stop beating yourself up (Get over it) - Bro Philip Howell 10-18-2023

And it's you glad to be in the house of the Lord tonight. Thank

you for the spirit of the Lord. We feel thank the thank our pastor

for the opportunity to preach. Uh. Our pastor does it a little different

than a lot of them, I believe, and I it's it's different when

he asks you, he just tells you. So I really, I really,

truly, I appreciate that a lot of preachers he passed through here and

ask, hey, brother, you think you can be ready to Not pastors,

just be ready to preach Wednesday night. I appreciate that if you have

your bibles going in a little different direction than I, uh feel like the

service. If you have your bibles, we'll be reading. In a second

Samuel chapter eleven, Help, oh help, would you have to see man?

It reads, And it came to pass after the year expired, at

the time when kings go forth to battle, that David sent Joe app and

his servants with him and all Israel, and they destroyed the children of Ammon

and be seeds rather, but David Terry still in Jerusalem. And it came

to pass in an evening tide that David arose from off his bed and walked

upon the roof of the king's house, and from the roof he saw a

woman washing herself. And the woman was very beautiful to look upon. And

David sent and inquired after the one, and one said, is not this

Bathsheba the daughter of Allen, the wife of Juriah the Hittite. And David

sent messengers and took her, and she came in unto him, and he

lay with her, for she was purified from her uncleanliness, and she returned

unto her house. You would stretch your hands towards headless, free God.

get us do this the way we crit God. We need to spare.

would amen. And then I'm taking this a little different. Then uh,

then uh, you would perceive it. I got two titles. I couldn't

get past one and stop beating yourself up and the other get over. And

I kind of want to take a different approach to David's failure here Compared to

what a lot of people do. So we read here in Second Samuel chapter

eleven, where David at this time he had made a terrible mistake. We

see and in verse five says the one conceived and sent to David and said,

I am with child. Right there we realized David knew right then,

he knew he had failed when he first called for both Seba. But right

then he realized, hey, it ain't gonna just be able to be swipping

or the rump. So what he done? He's saying, unto Joe app

he was the leader of his army, and told him send me your riah

the hit tie. So your Yah come to him and David, David began

to ask him, make small talk with him. He asked him, he

said, he demanded of him how Joe Abb was doing and how the people

were doing. So just trying to you know, David had to feel bad

at this time, knowing what he had done to this man's wife. Now

David, David has had a child with this woman. Child has not yet

born. So he called your Ayah and he's speaking to him and he tells

him, David's a smart man. As soon as he found out, he

called your Ayah and what he's planning was to do. He told your yah,

Joe aff sending your Riah, and he told you Riah, go under

your house and wash your feet. David thought he could fix this mistake on

his own, so he's send your rye away and Euryah, you're right the

hitside. He went out from David's presence. David thought he was gonna go

home unto That'shiba. But you're Rightah laid at the gate of the King's house.

And the more I read that, the more us I know that tourd

David apart realized on what he had done to a man, and to the

man, you realize how dedicated he was the king David. This man wouldn't

even go home from his wife. So they told David, said you're Rayah

didn't go into his house, and so many words. So David called Euryah

again, and so Euryah come up and David as he said, why why

haven't you Why didn't you go into your house? And Euryah said, my

Lord show ababde at in open fields, and the servants the ark about it

in the ten Judah and Israel intense as well, Lord David, as long

as you live, I will I won't go into the tent. So right

then, I won't go into my house. The lord forbid. Right then,

David realized he had no other choice. Youiah, so he's said you're

right at the hit time, sending him out and said stay with me till

tomorrow, and in the morrow I'll let you go. So at this time

David called for They told David that you're right. The second time, didn't

go home, so he called Eariyah told him I'll let you go home in

the morning, Uriah, come to him, help me morning. You're right,

come to him. So David and him ate and drank. Youriah becomes

drunk. David thought that you Riah, the drunk man, then would go

home unto Bathsheba. But still even this man, you Yah, had a

lot of heart for the people of Israel, the people of Judah. He

wasn't gone man, They ain't none of us. I personally, I think

I would go home to my wife after coming from war. But you're Rah,

this man, he's a good man. So he goes to the bed

of the servants at the king's house, and then they told David again he

went to the servants. So David decided right here, I'm not gonna get

you Riah or go home into Bathsheba. So he decided he had the grass

were straws. Desperate times called for desperate measures. So he sends a letter

to Joe Abb in the hands of your Yah. Can you imagine you're carrying

your own death letter? I don't know. I don't think I trust the

scene that with the man I'm telling my general. I think Joe I know

he led the armies, just kill this man. What if you're riders?

I mean, I'm gonna be sneaking. He'd a read it. So David

tells Joe Ab to put Euriyah in the hottest part of the battle, in

the forefront. So Joe Abb put you Rayah in the forefront of the battle,

and uh, it's plenty of the servants of the soldiers, and Joe

Abb died that day because they pressed on in. Joe Abs said, right

there, he put him where he knew valiant men. Was. I got

to think, and David I had one murder on his mind, bore me

and failed in just Youriah that day because of what David wanted to do,

he was gonna take your Rayah out. But I tell him more than just

Uriah fell because of David's sin. There ain't gonna tell I said it.

Pleay, I'm gonna say. Play of the servants fell, more of the

soldiers, and yourah. So now you're right. David has on his plate

the uh the adult treat and the cheat the law. With Bathsheva. He

took uh Juriah's wife's Bathsheba, and now he has uh Uriah's death. He's

murdered Jariah. I got a thing about that. When we fall, I

have no doubt about it. Thank you, Lord Joe alf I know without

a doubt. When he got that letter, he said, why David,

why when you sin you confused people? Help us more so, Joe a

rock there and there said, I don't know it was a three they had

the three things. I'm assuming was three days David, just days ago you

called for this man. You send me a letter, cham send me or

ayah thehadtime. Why all of a suddenly you won't to kill I know it

confused Joe abb That's what I want to say again. When you sin and

you stumble and fall, it does confuse others. I have no doubt.

Joe Abben was wondering why in the world is King David doing this, But

joe At was a faithful man, so he went ahead, and Oriah died

that day and with more of the soldiers. And so now Nathan the prophet

later on comes in under David, and he starts telling him a story parabolically

speaking, and he tells him of a man, a rich man who takes

a poor man's you lamb and dresses it for the man the visitor. And

so David, I think to Nathan the prophet realize that David's just gonna left

this side by. David gets wroth and says, this man is to he

needs to repay him fourfold. David gets wroth and said, surely this man

will die. Nathan a man like our pastor. Look right at David,

he said, David thu art the man. And then it goes on.

He's talking about the kingdom, how he's gonna lose it, and so David

instill like some people. David said, I've said against the Lord, help

us Lord. Oh so now Nathan the prophets told David you will not die,

Gods took the charge from you, but the child will die. So

David went on a, I believe in the seven. I know the child

died seven days later. So David was fast and weaving and praying. They

said he didn't. They went in there trying to speak to him. He

wouldn't come up from the earth. He was laying down, and so David

foreseved. The servants were talking and they said, how will we tell David

the child has died? Because he has not a. He ain't doing nothing

when the child is alive. So what's he gonna do when the child's dead?

So then David for seved with him whispering. David said, he's the

child dead. They said he's dead. So now David decides. He gets

He cleans himself up of her, anoints his face, and he goes in

worship. And he confused his servants. The servants said, pretty much,

Master, why why would the child was alive? Was you fasting, weeping

and crying, and now you go on worship? David said, who knows

them? God would have been merciful to me and left the child live.

But now the child is dead and I cannot bring him back, but I

can go to him helpless Lord. So now the child is The child dies

and David's don't worship end up. Go to Psalms fifty one and four helpless

lords. David right here, David's a lot different than a lot of people.

Man, he's up, he fell, he failed many times, but

he knew how to get up. So it starts out, have mercy upon

me God, according to thy loving kindness, according to thy multitude of tender

mercies. David goes on to say in verse three, this is what's important

for I acknowledge my sins. For I acknowledge my transgressions, and my sin

is ever before me. Now I know on my title get over it or

the first one stop beating yourself up. I understand right here, David sins

where I acknowledge my transgressions and my sin is ever before me. I don't

want anybody to mistake what I'm saying for your sin and say brother Philip said

get over it. No, if you're like David and you say I acknowledge

my transgressions and my sins is ever before me, this is where I realize

you're sid Yes, you can't, you're gonna. You're not supposed to say,

but we have sin, and there's people that will still beat them up

from beat themselves up from sin to the past. You will have the march.

Some people all might have tattoos covered. I've seen people like that.

David says. My sin is ever before me. You know what David's sin

ever before it was somewhere out there there was a tombstone or a spot where

you're right, I die somewhere in inser there's a burial where the baby that

by Sheeva had boor died. That so sins well evenfore you. But you

have to get above it. Right here Versus eleven, he says, cast

me not away from thy princess, and take not thine holy spirit from me.

Helli Lujah, they said at thirteen. Then I want to teach Transgressier's

thy ways, and sinners shall be converted unto thee. And then in verse

fourteen, deliver me from the blood guiltyness, O God, Thou God of

my salvation, and my tongue shall sing aloud thy righteousness. Right there he

is confessing I've murdered a man. I don't think anybody here has murdered anyone.

So I know sin is equal good and bad. But you gotta get

a buvet, even if it's small. Pains even the same. I got

to think that your family will never get saved, Your coworkers will never get

seen you sit there trying to de five. But then if they see you

seeing they're beating yourself up with the sin that they would like to get free

from, there's not gonna be a change because they see you beating themself up

on a sin you should have got when you got out the blood. I've

seen people get it out of the blood Sunday night. By Wednesday night.

They know, went home and land on their man. The devil brought it

up, and see a sam devil, I got that in the blood.

You know what they do? They sit there and beat themselves up until they

beat themselves out of the ninety. They lose their style. They said,

you can lose them by beating yourself up. You can't. I'm telling you

that the start. But then, even with a man he knew he had

the thought of God, death was for he says verse sixteen, For thou

desiurs not sacrifice. Else what I get it thout the lightest, not in

burnt off rinks. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit and a conshin

heart. Oh God, thou will about to spie. That goes back to

what I was saying about. You gotta help me, Lord. Right there,

are broken in a contract spirit. God. When I despise, That's

what I'm talking about in verse three. You have to acknowledge that you have

to have a broken and a contract spirit. You can't just get above it.

You can't just get over it. You can't just stop beating yourself up

unless you ask for forgiveness. Like David did multiple times in this chapter.

He asked God about to send him away from the spirit. He tells God

he acknowledges it. He also in verse three he says, wash me thoroughly

from my iniquities and cleanse me from my sin. Jesse, helpless Lord.

I want to say again, don't mistake what I'm saying for it. Just

saying it and saying, hey, I'm gonna get over it, That is

not what I mean. I know, I'm sure I help me, Lord,

And so right there, you can't just get over it. I know

that's the thought. But I'm preaching to the people that have got have repented

over it. I'm telling you I've been there. You repent up something.

You know that God helped you with. You got victory in the altar,

and the devil will beat you up that very night. That's what I'm saying,

David. At some point I understand you can't just get over it.

I know I said it, but you have to. When you get to

victory, you can't let the devil beat you up about it. And that's

what David done right here in Psalms fifty one. He got above it.

I want to say that again. Your family will never your friends, your

loved ones, your worker. If they see you beating yourself up we coming

to the altars. If they see you beating yourself up or sins that they

want to get free of it. They're like, man, this guy he

goes to church religiously. She goes to church religiously, and they see you

still beating yourself up over the same things. There's no way, and they're

going to come through the knowledge of the truth. They're not going run it

helpless. Morning. Let's get over it tonight. If I want people,

don't beat yourself up after tonight's service when you get victory keeping you now,

I'm hurt, but Dad, you don't have to stay down. You may

see my battlescars, my wound and a broaking hard body's knocked in that you

know I'm gonna rise A bully the fall fool and I'm down and I'm not

out. I have heard, but have no robbing up from you, gonna

get up from him. You may see my battlestar, my wound and a

broken hard that he's knocked in. I'm gonna rise above the halloo. I'm

down and I'm not out. I'm hurt, but have no fee Robby gon't
