Hope for the underdog - Bro Jeremy Howell 12-20-2023

If you have your bibles turned with me to the Book of Micah. May

I direct your attention to the fifth chapter in the second verse, I want

to preach to you a message the Holy Ghost, title and hope for the

underdog. Hope for the underdog. Brother Jesse, first Samuel, chapter number

sixteen, reading verses number eleven through thirteen, and Brother Nathaniel Saint Matthew's Gospel

twenty and verse number sixteen. Brother Jesse, would you read your scriptures?

And Samuel said, unto Jesse, are here all by children? And he

said, there remain it yet the youngest, and behold he keep it the

sheep. And Samuel said, unto Jesse, sin and fetch him, for

we will not sit down until he come here. And he said, brought

him in. Now he was ready, with all the beautiful countenance and goodly

to look to you. And the Lord said, arise, anoint him,

for this is he. Then Samuel took the horn of oil and annoyting Heim

in the midst of his brethren. And the spirit of the Lord came upon

David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up and went to rama praise

the Lord. Jesse and his sons did not think it was possible that God

would use David, for he's the underdog brother Nathaniel Matthew Chapter number twenty and

verse number sixteen. So the last shall be first in the first last,

for many be called if you chosen, that shalt material right there, Just

those two contexts that our brethren have read in our ears. Tonight, let's

stand for the reading of our golden text again. Micah chapter number five and

verse number two. The Bible said, but thou, Bethlehem Ephrata, though

thou be little amongst the thousands of Judah, Yet out of these shall he

come forth unto me, that is, to be ruler in Israel, whose

goings forth have been from of old, from ever lasting. Look at the

beginning of that second verse again, but thou, Bethlehem Epetah, though thou

be little among the thousands of Judah, Yet out of these shall he come

forth unto me, that is, to be ruler in Israel. Can we

really pray tonight together, Heavenly Father, we love and we praise you.

We thank you for the opportunity to be in the house of the Lord Lord.

I thank you for your goodness, I thank you for your mercy,

I pray that you would annoy this thy servant, said a God at my

mouth. Help me to say only those things that you would happen to say,

nothing more and less annoy the ears of this thy people, that they

might hear what it is. The spirits saith under the church can right here

inside of these four walls. God, I pray, Lord, help us

not to be hearers only, but doers. I pray, let these sayings

go down below the shoulders. Let them go into that heart and mind,

soul and body. Let them strengthen us. I pray, Lord. It

is not by our mind or our power, but by your spirit. We

pray that we would depart this place joyfully and not sorrowfully. In Jesus' name,

How many of you like the baby Ruth Candy bar We have our very

own baby Ruth, and her name, like sister Tabitha's, name was confirmed

as their mothers prayed for confirmation concerning the names of their baby girls. Their

names were confirmed in services right here at to Bethel Hole and his church,

and for that we're very thankful. We miss everybody that is out sick tonight,

Brother Philip, I'm glad you here after having that chemoport stall. We

love each and every one of you, those that are in the building that

are sick. Our hearts go out to you, and we pray for you

in the name of Jesus. Again reading our text, But thou Bethlehem,

effort of though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of

these shall he come forth unto me, that is to be ruler in Israel,

whose goings forth have been of old from everlasting. Our text is found

in an Old Testament book of the Holy Bible, the Book of Micah.

The title bears the name of the author of this sacred writing. My grandson

Micah is named after this great and God fearing man. The prophet Micah might

have been considered a minor prophet, but because of the brevity of this book,

I feel like he was not a minor prophet. There's a lot of

people that feel like, because of the brevity of this book, that he's

considered to be a minor prophet, but I do not feel way. I

feel like after reading this book of the Bible, that this man was very

significant concerning the Bible. I feel like God had used this man in a

very special way in his day and hour as he preached to his countrymen.

This man was a man that was from the country, a man that was

from a little village. I want you to hold on to certain key words

tonight, as I mentioned them. We have a mental outline to follow.

One of those key words will be insignificant. Another key word to listen for,

will be little. Another key word to listen for, will be a

prospect. How many of you know that apparently this man Micah had been a

prospect of the lords. The Lord had searched throughout that little town that he

was from and had found somebody that people would have considered later on to be

a little preacher, a little prophet, somebody that wasn't very significant concerning minished,

But Brother Jeremiah, I did not share their sentiments or feelings. I

feel like this man had been used mightily by the Lord in his day and

hour. And also we will see that in our day and hour in December

of the year twenty twenty three, how this man is going to be used

The Holy Ghost moved upon him, just like he did any other authors that

wrote the words that are in this blessed Book of the Bible. I feel

like Michael was a man brother Samuel, that was significant in so many ways,

just like people that are sitting in the pews tonight, preachers, pastors,

pastors, wives, ministers, wives, evangelists, wives, those preachers

that feel like they really don't have a great ministry, preachers that feel like

they're the underdog. Again, I preaching a message title hope for the Underdog.

I'm thinking of those little country churches in rural areas throughout the world.

Also in America, there are little churches who number in maybe thirty people in

number, that's all that attend those little churches. There are some little churches

throughout America, whether it's only three or four in attendance. And I feel

like Averrid one of these gatherings of believers. In spite of the numbers that

are on the road book are posted on the wall, they are very significant.

We can encourage ourselves by the Scripture and said, where two or three

are gathered together in My name, there am I in their midst. I

can remember in the history of Bethel, Hole in his church when we only

have a handful of people. I thank God tonight that we have sixty five

people that call the Bethel Hole in his church home. I'm grateful for that.

I'm very thankful for each and every one of you. And I believe

the Law will add to our congregation daily such as should be saved and as

he sees fimp because we find that rich than the word of God, that

He is a God of addition and a God of multiplication, and that God

can add to the numbers of the believers. But no matter the size of

the congregation. And again for those that would despise the words of my mouth

that I just spoke to this local assembly, those that may be listening oldline,

our old line audience that is worldwide. I am not boasting because we

have sixty five people in attendance. I do understand that compared to most church

sizes and congregation gathering and sizes, that this is a very small congregation.

But I want to preach to this congregation tonight that there is hope for the

underdogs. I believe that this man Micah was a man that was very significant

in his day and hour. And also we will find here just a little

while he is significant in our life. I feel like this particular sermon will

be life chack aging for somebody, whether it's a teacher, a minister,

a preacher, an evangelist, wife, or an evangelist or a missionary.

I'm not sure, but I know that this sermon could be significant for a

little boy or a little girl, or a parent that's in this building tonight.

I know that this man Micah, he knew that the Lord would come

down upon him at times and anoy him, even though seemingly nobody else in

his little country village was being anointed by or spoken through by God. I

feel that Brother Nathaniel, that this man was not ashamed of who he was.

He was proud to be a prophet of God in a good sense,

if there is a good sense of the word pride. He was not ashamed.

Just like Apostle Paul was not ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ nor

the words of Jesus Christ. Neither was this prophet or preacher of Micah.

Y'all bear with me as I lay a poundation. You see, this man

knew who he was in God. They knew who he was in God.

Meaning those that listened to him as he preached, they knew who he was.

In God, the world knows exactly who you are in this world.

They know that you might be a single bulb of light in this dunk world.

They know that you might be a single grain of salt in this world

that is not salted, if you will. I feel like God made this

man by like an understand that one man can make a difference in a little

church. One man can make a difference in a little village. One man

can make a difference in a country setting, or in a capital city.

One man can make a difference. Also, one woman can make a difference.

You feel like tonight that you are insignificant. You sit in the pew

that you're sitting in time and again, service after service, and you say

all it seems to me like God has his favorite people. God does not

have favorites. God is not a respector a person. But God does allow

people to operate in divine favor when they are obedient to Him at his will.

It is evident to me, as a reader of this book of the

Bible, that this man had no worries at all sighting off with these things,

that God had given him to say, truly, the sayings that are

recorded in this book of the Bible were prophetic. He preached to his people,

He preached to his little village. He preached to this insignificant village,

if you would, and Brother Samuel. Ultimately the nation was ministered to.

I feel like all nations have been ministered to by the prophet Micah in some

way. It puts in a little village or in a big city, at

some point the pastor over that local assent or congregation will preach from the Book

of MYCCAP. I don't know why it is that so many people today have

this inferiority complex. I don't know lie so many people today feel so insignificant.

I don't know if it's because of a list celebrities putting themselves in front

of your face so often and showing up every evening in the news as you

go through your cell phone and try to read the evening news. I don't

know if it's just the fact that all of these politicians just insert themselves into

your daily lives and daily routines, and you develop this mentality that everybody is

bigger and better than you, and more special to people than you are to

some people. But I'm preaching the people tonight that really are dealing with a

very serious issue called inferiority. I feel like there are people that would be

bothered by the title of a minor prophet. I can imagine why people decided

to do that years ago, Brother Jeremiah, when they sept. This group

of prophets that are Bible characters are minor prophets, while this group are prophets

that are Bible characters are major prophets. Who were they to decide who is

minor and who is major In the Kingdom of God. Our contexts do not

talk about those that are the littlest becoming the greatest and those that are the

greatest seemingly becoming the littlest. I know that God is a God that takes

people from the hindred part and shoves them into the form of prophet, will

finding the Bible that sometimes God will take the tail and turn it into the

head. As I was reading through the pages of this book, I couldnt

help but think about this season and the time of year when we the followers

of Jesus Christ really is truly celebrated the meaning of Christmas and the reason I

find my mind thinking of events and activities that take place around this most wonderful

time of the year, it's because of the words of our golden texts.

Michael, chapter number five, in verse number two. They are propetic words

coming out of the mouth of what seems to be and insignificant preacher, somebody

that most would not have considered a prospect for the propet position or for prophecy.

We read these words by the road cap, and we realize that these

prophetic words informed the nation and the world surrounding that nation, that there would

be a very special birth, the very birth of the Christ Child, out

of what seemed to be a little town, little little nation surround it,

and got greatness such as a great Emperor and great and good governor's, great

nations all around them. Out of this little carolly there comes true greatness,

greatness, emerging greatness, happening just now, in a moment, the situation

changes that that was insignificant becomes significant. I'm telling you, greatness. This

package to that a little mortal body rapped in humanity, not only rapped in

humanity, but wrapped in us seemingly lonely, powerless, frail, little Amy's

body there some solid help him, not as a threat. Now all her

people knew who he was, and the wise man knew her who he was.

They saw him all they had protracted. They were terrified. Herod was

terrified. They knew the king, her teenser, and the Lord her lords.

He had been born, Oh little town of budle him, praise the

Lord. Some saw him not for who he was, but for who he

will become. In thirty years you'll find that Mary, the Mother Jesus,

didn't behold him as a baby, but in time she saw him as her

lord and her master. She who gave birth to him and laid him in

a manger after wrapping him, been swaming close. She too would go up

But she would crime they say, my Lord and my God. I

tell her somebody in this fielding tonight, you need to know that God has

God see you as insignificant in the Kingdom of God. He sees you as

somebody significant. He knows your name, he knows her issues her, He

loved her you when you were actu worster the godness to take you from the

worsa to the best, I said, God, what's to take to your

from where you're at her and make the best out of you. You can

be a better person, you can be a greater person, I said,

Little, there's much of God is in it? Little as much when God

is in it. While reading through this book of the Bible, I came

to the fifth chapter. I began to recognize familiar details details of the birth

of Christ, especially the specific birthplace of the Lord. Who would have ever

thought that the angelic choir would have been seen that night of the Savior's birth.

Who would have ever thought that shepherds would have led their folks over to

this place have been searching for some something better of significance. Who would have

ever thought that wise men would have journeyed her from the east. We don't

know how many of them were there that day, But who would have ever

thought that those men would have left a prestigious positions and palaces and come with

gifts in tow and in hand in order to pay ob censer to a baby.

I'm telling you to Moss people that it looked insignificant to most people,

that they would christ n her and we here thse people would say her,

what's the big deal? I'm not seeing that. I'm not kidding that.

That's holding a ma own heath and her baby and what appears to be her

the baby's daddy. They'll come on now without telling you in that mainsor what's

the sun her daughter? Can God look for you? Yes, sir,

We might be a significant, but little as much when God is in it.

We find God in a small town, in a small Jewish village.

If the Bible readers a student present to that will take the time to read

this book of the Bible tomorrow, they will notice that mike Hal believed that

the Lord allowed situations to improve for every underdog of life if they wanted their

situation to improve. You see, the Lord is still helping those who are

less fortunate in this life. If you study the life and ministry of Jesus

Christ, you will see that he selected among hea that insignificant of that day

to be his followers. The noble were not called the mighty, were not

leaned upon the powerfle were not consulted with, no lowly insignificant fishermen we're asked

to embark her on one of the most important missions and journeys that any beings

would ever embark upon. I'm telling you young men who were going about their

ordinary life on a nerve re birthday, they felt only death power when the

man up top, Jesus Christ, spoke to them and said, today it's

the day the two light changes forever, our creaturing us somebody tonight tonight for

me, this service, the two light changes forever. Year. It's so

them yesterday and also the rest of our family. And on a secular radio

station, something to begin to play that I recognize, and I asked,

most part, since God saved my song, I'm able to do that.

I don't pack my foot to bootscoot boogie anymore. I don't listen to God's

books sing anymore. But there was something that captivated me that brought my attention

to it. And I said, Sister, how is that what I think

it is? And she said yes, it is what you think it is.

On that secular the radio station, as we're playing all that worldly junker,

they are playing the song that goes like this. It's such a strange

way to save the world. I don't know if you've ever heard our choir

sing that song this time of year, but I love to hear them singing.

I don't know who wrote it that I agree it did not make any

sense for Jesus to come in my foreign hard he baby. He didn't just

come in the humanity or in more mentality. He came in the rowest of

lawyers or cans that you were. Then he came as helpless as a little

baby. I'm telling you his very own personal experiences and testimony shows us that

it does stop matter where you come from. You got top out of a

kind of stall because of us still room for you in the end. You

can't come out of a mainsholder, which is a feeding taper. It doesn't

matter your upbray or your back crowd. Jesus came up to tell you the

little people come to top play people. All I want to preach to you

tonight the prophet Mica, he seems to be like Jesus. He had a

problem. He had a problem with the way some people mistreating other people,

especially those who couldn't easily defend themself, like women and children. He saw

that they were being taken advantage of while he was living upon earth. Again,

this man is a preacher or a prophet, and a little village,

an insignificant village, but he is preaching truth and proclaiming things that people do

not want to hear. I'm telling you there's a lot of people suffering abuse

at the hands of others. And Micah's testimony here has written record that God

was myaw of them women and their children that were being taken advantage of during

Maca's time upon earth. It also shows us that God was mindful of the

way the governments we're treating people everyday, laborers, we're being taken advantage of

by crooked business men. Men were cating wealth dishonorly. Honestly, there were

thieves on every hand, and Michael was preaching against that. I said,

God solid the injustice, the disadvantages. God solid that God had a problem

with it. Hell, you say, as God see me, I'm insignificant,

You alone me, I'm nothing. Yes, God sees her you in

your situation. You see the prophet Malcolm begin to preach against the oppression upon

his people by their oppressors. He despised the bullies and their behaviors, their

attitudes, and their actions. He insisted that these bullies repent for what they

were doing. He insisted in these religious people that called themselves His brothers and

sisters who repent, that's something you don't hear of anymore. Do your brother

stare religious people who claimed to be the people of God repenting because God said

so? People today don't feel like her. There's anything to be sorrocled for

her. They don't feel like her, there's anything to repent. Ev God

still insists that we repent if we're going to become something in God. When

the angels spoke to Mary and Joseph, they did not speak to them accidentally.

No, the angels came by commandment of God to visit people that were

morally pure, people that possessed in their bosom are moral compass that they could

pull out and say, this attitude and this behavior an action is not leading

me in the right direction. Alone with the light, I love to hear

crickets. Preacher I know that at the Hospital of Data would better and better

Philip and our here where I know to preach to have somebody. I told

Sister Howld, I've got to be there at night talks come to work it

out for me to be there because I want to talk to an underdog or

two. I want to tell you you might not feel like it's possible he

for God to make something out of you, But with Todd all things are

are possible. That there's nobody in this theater except for becoming what's it is

ire to be in God's kingdom. It's evident, Brother Jesse, that this

prophet Micaeh had a problem with people's wrong for doings. It's evident they didn't

feel like you can do wrong and get by. It's evident that he talk

like your efforts are doing so would be futile. It's evident that this prophet,

whose name means who is like God in Hebrew, was mindful of the

least, the lost, and the lonely, especially those that were less portunity.

I'm preaching the night of Hope for the underdog. When Jesus king his

old people being the Jewish people, and they were offended because her He was

interested in helping the least, the lost, and the lonely. He was

interested in helping the publicans and the sinners. God of Philip, and I

have seen a lot of sick people lately in the plaza sitter that I want

you to know. It has not deterred me from there. This made me

more determined to help her. Somebody answer that might be in need it.

Don't you feel like that there's a lot minded us of Christ as there was

here with Michael. His name means like God. Don't you feel like this

preacher is doing the things that God will telling them to do, telling them

bullies and them are precious. Stop that, Stop picking on that one,

Stop making fun of that one. Stop pulling your piner of that one.

They're making them feel bad about the speech impediment or their disabilitation, or they're

being trip on. What about them being at tiptop. They may feel a

tip top, they may be water there, they're still crowns. However,

the masters came off for there. People in our holiness and Pentecostal churches today

they look down their nose. They're people. Some of you do not understand

that expression. Just take your eyes and look down your nose, trying to

look at the tip of your nose. So what are you doing right now?

Why you've torn in your eyes downward and you're trying to look at your

nose. You tilled your head, You have lifted yourself up above other people?

Are you looking at him? You knows as somebody else. Oh,

my God and Heaven help me preach or the ghost you are give me the

strength and the energy that I need. So on we see that this man,

this prophet Michael, came out of a middle village. And now the

Holy GIRs is comforting him and encouraging him as he give him the prophetic words

of our code and texture. And we see that the mouth of what seemingly

is the middle prophet to her mind and prophet to he begets to speak of

powerful prophetic words. These words are our golden TEXTA but thyal bethela help Efrata.

There will thou be little there an the thousands of Hans and Yuka out

of Ze shall come forth under me. That is the mere ruler in Jerusalem.

this building have ever felt like you were the underdog in any situation or scenario,

or be honest to raise your hand. There's quite a few people in

this building that it's felt like her the underdog at some time. Sometimes the

younger preachers they come to me and they say, Pastor, one day I

want a preacher and like you do. One day I want to have a

knowledge or a run of coll and like you do, I want you to

know whether you're Michael, or whether you're your Milla, or whether you're Paul

or either. It does not matter. As long as you've got to her

a word in your heart, as long as you've got to power in your

balls. The preacher just there ahead and preacher hit thirty minutes. There's all

God, just preacher, you are underdogs. I remember watching kids deal with

us feeling of being the underdog during our childhood at school years. Does anybody

remember watching people deal with that coach with that feeling. It was very uncomfortable

for me to watch that. It's apparent to most careful observers that people feel

quite uneasy and uncomfortable when they are feeling that way. You won't know it

to be true. You witnessed it as an observer. You saw us break

for recession. Dear physical education time. We went to the ballfield and the

coach, the pe coach. They brought that keep falling through in the middle

of the fielder and appointed them two guys that would always be here, the

team captains. Everybody knew they were the most athletic in the school. Everybody

knew they were just always good at everything they did. Come on because somebody

said the man, And then there were those that would be picked first,

those that would be picked next him, and go right on down the line,

until that little boy, that little girl was facing the other way and

biting their lip, and a tear was rolling down their face. Hut,

and they were uttering these words to themselves. I am the underdog. I

am the one that's overlooked. I am no one and nobody wants to pick

I am the one. Come on, now, why do they act so

uneasy about it? Why do they feel such a way. It's only a

game, it's only a project, it's only a test. It's only a

little building that's a preaching in micae. It's only a little mersing home.

It's only a little Sunday school class. It's all in the truth of the

real I'll come on now, Why do people feel so uncomfortable about their assignments

or they're placing a lot up? I'm telling somebody tonight. Tell as long

as you get own the team, you are blessed. I said. As

wrong as you are a member a class team, you are blast. But

I won't tell you. God has big things planning for people in this building

tonight and for all of his children. If we can get this mentality that

I can become somebody. I've heard of young men before never becoming anything because

their fathers spent their lives telling their sons, you will never become anything.

You know why their fathers did that to their boys, and why they do

that to their boys because that's what the father has heard all of their lives,

and so they spend the rest of their lives telling those under them.

You will never measure up, you will always be insignificant. There is no

way you can make better yourself. You know why people feel this way,

justs to how they feel this way because they know they aren't likely to be

chosen. So as soon as a task has been a signed, or as

soon as the responsibility is demanded upon. They know if you're gonna go to

the kok and ball field, I know I'm not gonna be chosen, brother

detainer. They know that everybody knows it's unlikely for them to be picked,

because they know that everybody else knows, they're not gonna help anybody win.

Baca could have said, how effective is my ministry? Am I helping anybody?

Am I making a difference in these women and children's lives? Am I

making a difference in these people's lives that are being robbed? Is my preaching?

I mean, I mean, come on, he didn't know that.

Later people will consider him a minor prophit because of the shortness of the brevity

of us writings with Sister Wood. And I'm sure there were times he just

looks at that's just a little village. That's what I'm preaching on here tonight

without Beth I have. But you know, you're little, you little Look

at that little guy. We just brought my cup Jesse's little four year olds

out here with a bunch of men, and there's no way he's gonna help

us win. Somebody just had to be doing him a favor to make you

feel better about herself to even bring him home the team, to making part

of the roster, put him in the line up. We just don't bring

him over here out of the goodness of our heart. Come on, now,

you gotta behaveor to help somebody win with thke we kill like that.

I gotta be able to be the number one chowder in the church. I

gotta be the number one preacher in the church. Something a too competitive?

I said, good, too competitive? What's he got cold? Do is

get out there with a desire to win. Then teach us and let people

see her. You might not be able to run the paces, pass them

up, but they want to on the sidelines because nobody has to cat cheer

for your team. Look lock you again. Everybody would agree. I need

them on my team because you're the best cheerleader. They're the best sideline coach

we've ever had. Keep all preaching. I've said, so many preachers that

tell us over other preachers call it and abilities that have not given have gots

tripped them from the preachers that be like you know the man, but instead

of cheering for tea Jesus, instead of root how colling you when they're under

God starts with the laws and they're part of the team. I want to

preach to actor. I don't want to push you people, brother Jeremiah Sue

is that getting that you church? As soon as they take to church,

as soon as they begin that ministry, as soon as they begin that marriage,

as soon as they begin that relationship, as soon as they begin anything,

as soon as they take that new child, they just feel like they

are losers. I've heard them say before. I'm a natural born loser.

I was born to lose. You got to lose that mentality. That's what

you've got to lose. And you've got to understand I have divine favor as

a child of God. Why are you gonna lose because you're Handicappa? Hey,

come on now, why are you gonna lose because you're prison me?
