Bibles. Will you turn with me to Saint Mark's Gospel. May I direct
-
your attention to the second chapter and the fourth verse. If you've brought your
-
Bible with you tonight or have located one in the back of that peuce,
-
say amen, how many of you appreciate the Word of God? How about
-
the King James copy the King James translation. We appreciate the King James.
-
If you don't have King James Bible in your hand, you'll probably need one
-
for this message tonight to make any sense. I've come to preach to you
-
a message that the Lord gave me about five minutes before I walked out of
-
my office. This has only happened to me a few times over the years
-
because I'm a pastor. I'm sure if I evangelize it would happen more often.
-
But because I'm a pastor and I have ample time to study to show
-
myself approved under God, I try to be a workman. I try,
-
and I strive my very best to be a workman that is not ashamed,
-
and I try to write to divide the Word of truth. At any given
-
time, I have probably six titles, and I feel like the Lord has
-
given me six golden texts just about at any given time, and six sermons
-
in development. But tonight the Lord forbade me from going in any of those
-
directions. So I want us to look at this second chapter and fourth verse
-
because of the Lord to steer me in this direction. At the last moment,
-
I do not have any code text. Young preachers, we might be
-
done in twenty minutes. Praise the Lord. Let's stand for the reading of
-
our text against Saint Mark's gospel the second chapter and the fourth verse, and
-
the Bible said, And when they could not come nigh unto him for the
-
press, they uncovered the roof where he was. And when they had broken
-
it up, they let down the bed wherein the sea of the posy laid.
-
Notice the latter part of that verse. They let down the fed wherein
-
the sick of the polesy lay. About five minutes before I walked out of
-
my office, I felt like the Holy Goost whispered this sentence into my soul.
-
When friends let you down, When friends let you down, May we
-
pray, Heavenly Father, we love and we praise you. We thank you
-
for the opportunity to be in the house of the Lord. I pray that
-
you would annoy it. This thy servant, said, a God at my
-
mouth, and help me to say the things that you would have me to
-
say, nothing more or less, and not the years of this thy people,
-
that they might hear what the spirit saith unto the churches. This knife,
-
not of my words, but of your word. Through this preach word,
-
Let it build faith God for those that need a faith increase. I
-
pray that these says would go below the shoulders. Let it be in that
-
heart's old, the spirit in the mind. I pray that we would not
-
be hearers only, but that we would heed these words. I pray that
-
we would depart this place joyfully and not sarply. In Jesus's name. In
-
the church said heymen, as you are being seated again, Looking at the
-
latter part of the fourth verse of Saint Mark's Gospel in the second chapter,
-
the Bible said, they let down the bed wherein the sick of the Pauls
-
he lay, look at your neighbor and say, hey, neighbor, as
-
anyone ever lets you down. I'm sure the answer to that question is a
-
resounding yes. Our text is found in a New Testament book of the Bible.
-
Mark is the author of this book of the Bible. It's not just
-
an ordinary man that authored this particular book of the Bible. He is very
-
significant. In fact, this is none other than John Mark. There's summ
-
in this building. You do not know anything about John Mark. John Mark
-
was the son of Mary. She was a prominent figure within the New Testament
-
Church. In its infancy, the power House Church had powerful men and women
-
of action, men and women that believed in preaching, and they believed in
-
pray, and they believed in church attendance. While these active people were so
-
busy doing the things that Christians do and not doing the things that worlings do,
-
these people had a prayer meeting one time when the apostle Peter had been
-
in prison. In fact, this woman Mary, the mother of John Mark,
-
hosted this prayer meeting at her house. Saints began to gather together there,
-
and because of the spirit of unity and the grace of the Lord and
-
Savior Jesus Christ, the prayer meeting had great results. The great result of
-
that prayer meeting was the freedom that Peter fell. At some point the prison
-
house was open, the shackles and the bonds and the fetters were broken,
-
brother Jesse, and he was set at liberty. Most of you will remember,
-
at some point Peter left the prison house, walked through the gates of
-
the city, and went to this house of this woman Mary, the mother
-
of john Mark. While he stood out the door, on the outside of
-
the door, and as he began to knock on the door, he began
-
to petition to those that were inside. He was telling them that there was
-
an answer for their prayer outside of the door. Their prayers had been answered,
-
and the answer to their prayer stood on the other side of the door.
-
How many of you tonight are thankful that your answer is just on the
-
other side of the door. That is another sermont for another day and another
-
hour. But as Peter knocked on that door, a damsel named Rooda,
-
she came to that door, and she heard the voice of Peter. Actress
-
was mistakenly thinking that it was a ghost, and she realized, this is
-
the answer to our prayer. And so you realized that this man john Mark
-
had been blessed in the fact that he had a god fearing mother. Not
-
only did she believe in Jehovah or in the Lord God Almighty, but she
-
believed in Jesus, asked the Messiah, and had embraced him as her personal
-
Lord and Savior. At some point, this man John Mark, probably because
-
of his mother's influence in the life of Peter and the other great Preacher of
-
Paul, John Mark, was permitted to go on a missionary journey with the
-
great Apostle Paul. While they're on that missionary trip, at some point,
-
Paul's partner, Barnabas, began to speak concerning this young preacher. And while
-
he was speaking concerning this young preacher, Apostle Paul disagreed with what was being
-
said. And the Bible put it this way. There was no small deest.
-
I think they both were right. I have studied that particular passage of
-
the scriptures over the years. I've looked at that narrative, and I've tried
-
to figure out who was right and who was wrong, and how did such
-
a friendship get strained that the Apostle Paul and his cohort, the beloved Parnabus,
-
the son of Consolation, that one that took the proceeds of the sounds
-
of all of his possessions and lead them at the apostles feet, How could
-
that man come to such an extreme disagreement with a great Apostle Paul that in
-
the middle of a mission trip they would several times where the Bible said that
-
because Paul did not feel that John Mark was dependable and trustworthy, Apostle Paul
-
felt the Apostle Paul felt life John Mark had let them down at a critical
-
moment in their ministry, and undoubtedly he had. He should have stuck it
-
out. He went home, and so John Mark again, probably because of
-
the influence that his mother had with the likes of Peter. I mean,
-
who wouldn't want to bless a woman that was willing to host a prayer meeting
-
that brought about your freedom? Who would feel like you owe somebody a favor?
-
And so again John Mark decides I'd like to tag along with the Apostle
-
Paul and Barnabas, and Paul said, no, I just cannot do it,
-
and so they went their separate ways. Now I'm preaching tonight a sermon
-
that the Holy Ghost titled when Friends Let You Down. There is no doubt
-
that the Apostle Paul felt like John Mark had let them down at a critical
-
time in their life. I remember early on in my ministry. As we
-
began to go under severe persecution for preaching the truth and standing for the truth,
-
persecution come down upon me my family, beautiful church family, and I
-
quickly learned who was forest really. It seemed like a lot of people said
-
they were forest, but we found out where a going got tough, they
-
were not really forest. The Bible said that a brother is born to their
-
adversity, and I found out who my real friends really were. I looked
-
on my left and there was Irish Wooton and her husband, Jean Wooton.
-
I looked a little further and there was Jackie Walker, and there was Johnny
-
Platte and Bobby platter and a few others that I realized her. They were
-
very appreciative for the mission that God has sent me to fulfill, and they
-
had my back no matter what happened. Seemingly the church Itselfah was busting apart
-
at the seams because people did not want truth, righteousness, and holiness.
-
I could tell these real friends refused to let me down. There is nothing
-
more unnerving for a pastor or a young preacher, or a young pastor or
-
a senior pastor that to feel that people aren't leaving them. We can tell
-
that despite rang true in the mind of the apostle Paul, when he recited
-
no doubt repeatedly, team must have forsaken me, having robbed this present world.
-
I'm sure that he said that as tears flote down his face, as
-
his hands shrembled. There's no doubt he was wondering, will Timothy do it?
-
We'll tired us do it? I mean, when one friend writs it
-
down because of betrayal, it's easy to get paranoying. It's easy to get
-
suspicious and wonder, we'll they let me down to? That's what Jesus say,
-
is that earthly god man begin to speak the earthly halp of Jesus.
-
He asked the question, will you betray me? Also? Will you read
-
me also? And Peter let me know I'm not gonna let you down for
-
thou hast the words of her. He turned on live here. What a
-
horrible feeling is when somebody disappoint this accounts us and lets this down or tell
-
us somebody in this ning tonight, sometimes we feel like her, we have
-
been let down. I want to preach this message, the only girl said,
-
tired them when friends, lets you down, it's probably not gonna go
-
the way that you think her it's gonna go. I got to looking at
-
this narrative, not a congregation with singing here in the second chapter of Saint
-
Matthew's Marks Cospeland, and I realize that Jesus was wildly popular. You'll see
-
there in the first chapter that around the thirty fourth or thirty seven Verson the
-
Bible said that he preached in their Synagogsion throughout Galileeda, and he cast out
-
devils. It's true that Jesus said was not letting anybody down. You can
-
tell that people replied to be involved in his ministry. Brother Rod Kampa,
-
it seemed like he's person in a way that must preachers would cover it for
-
their ministry to flourish. I mean, everywhere he's going, he's a preaching.
-
I think the Holy Guests for bringing that versa a scripture to mine.
-
Just now, it's the thirty ninth verson of the first chapter of Saint Mark's
-
Gospel. They said, and he preached in their synagogsa to out all Galilea
-
and cast out devils. Now, I just noticed something significant about that verse
-
that you will see in the first few verses of the second chapter, you
-
will notice that the prince of preachers, Jesus felt him it was imparted to
-
preach. How many preachers today do not feel like her. It's imported to
-
preach. They come to church and they give us three or four illustrations and
-
if we're lucky, we get five, and we get a ten to twenty
-
minutes sermoneta that has no depth to a substance, and we read the church
-
after that. We have been there, our relperens that were lost, had
-
been there, and we think things that we do not feel the same.
-
And we say that preacher and that minister and that church family let me down.
-
I pact such high hurts, I pod such antssibasive. I thought about
-
this from myself of with my prodigal's son, her daughter would tell at church
-
with me. I thought that they would pray. But there's their suspendence in
-
that preaching. There was no absence of annoting. There was no spirit in
-
the house. I'm telling you that is a reason to feel let down.
-
I'll pray that the Bethel holding this church would never talk to that place there,
-
would not to our community died there. We not to ill considers down
-
going put another down, that's low, I says, I've got to sing
-
it and teach him and Russia and preaching. You don't have to worry about
-
anybody being let down. I'm not in the business of letting people down.
-
They're made alive in a business or turning people in. I want you to
-
know, I feel like people how to come into their church house and be
-
lifted up by their brother and by their sister. We see that Jesus was
-
busy preaching. If you'll notice also in those first few verses in this second
-
chapter of Saint Matthew's Gosper you will notice that he was performing miracles. But
-
what I saw, Brother Jeremiah, before he performed the miracles, he was
-
preaching. I try to this down just before I walked out of my office.
-
Three points. That's see, when they just come down from the glowing
-
world. And I mean they just got in my soul. And I've got
-
a little tiny sheet of paper here, and that's all the notes that I've
-
got on and ere these three points that I feel like the Holy Girl sent
-
me out of my office. Wheel I will not try to read them again.
-
But you hold on to this mental outline. Point number one, his
-
presence was a magnet, and point number two he preached a message, and
-
point number three he performed the miracles. Now about Jesus and his Prayersen's being
-
a magnet. You will notice in those first few verses of Saint Matthew's Gust
-
of the second Chapter that the Bible said he it was noised that Jesus was
-
in the house. How many of you are thankful service after service we could
-
come into the biding and acknowledge the presence of the Lord. And then after
-
those services we can test the boy without reservation, without a doubt. I'm
-
one hundred percent sure Jesus was in the house. All the magnetism of the
-
minister Jesus, all the magnetism of his ministry, we can see these people
-
are coming to him like her a sick capt to hot break. You can
-
see they're trouve to Jesus. The Bible said, no man coming to the
-
Father unless the spirit draw him. We cannot be mean spirited and hard hearted
-
people that expect a church to be a magnetars for the lost her. I'm
-
telling you this magnetism with a love of Croust. This agnotism with a grace,
-
the mercy, and a piece of crost all the magnetism of this personality,
-
all the magnetism for this person I'll want you to know, if you'll
-
pray these things, thrill and leave it in God's handswer God will draw him.
-
No man coming to the Father, that's the spirit drawing. I realize
-
that I'm preaching after so many things have happened tonight. I realize that we've
-
already been bressed. As the musicians played, and as the singers say,
-
and the way the Holy Ghost moved. I'm all ways of armed and concerned,
-
though when the church gets used to not having preaching. I mean,
-
according to that first chapter and that Pretty Night verse, we see that Jesus
-
preached. I love for somebody to get annoyed and for them to sing the
-
song. But if Jesus is really in the house, there's gonna be somebody
-
preaching. Let the say up the norder the God. I want you to
-
know. They will never be the lyrical a song that will move anybody.
-
The way the Word of God remove you. They will never be. But
-
it's trimal the way the word God. We'll move with pop I want you
-
to know what moved that myself? Sir, that was mysterious. Sir,
-
what's this? Sir? Jesus was there, I said, Jesus, list
-
there. We don't need a song book. We don't need a son and
-
book. I'm telling you all you need is the Holy ghost and the water.
-
Come call preach. Tell me, preacher, what do I preach?
-
Paul preach the water? What mean this? The that Caesar all I says
-
that if he's in the house, there will be preaching. We sing that
-
song the old camp meeting days. Why did they say that there can't meet
-
days. I like their old time preaching, praying, singing that show.
-
I like the old time preaching up God's word. I steal believe in preaching.
-
I still believe in the effectiveness of preaching. I still believe in the
-
effectiveness of hot fire, refermament, passionate prayer. But I also still believe
-
in annointed preaching, drawing the lost her and changing their rs of her lost.
-
You see, these people knew that when Jesus was in the house.
-
I don't know how big the house was, but they knew her there would
-
be a houseful of criticizers and also people that were sincere. I don't know
-
how many sincere people that we've got here a night, or how many critics
-
are listening online. It does not matter to me. There will always be
-
a critical and there's always hate that tain't pop for those that are in the
-
house that are hearing the preacher. Preacher, we used to send a saw
-
tain't God for a preacher who taught me about jeez? I said, I
-
be a parent. I set that t Where was that preacher go through Galilee
-
hold top Sif preachers not an evangelist just preaching a sermon, Yes, that
-
was sermon specific for fifty churches, but that fifty first church it might not
-
have been for them, neither for the seventy fifth or for the hundreds.
-
Every preacher, every sermon I preach as a pastor as brand new because I
-
don't have the ability if you would the availability, then evangelist has to go
-
from point A to point B preaching the same message. And I do find
-
it as scriptural too, if you'll listen to me, it's scriptural to go
-
from synagogue to Seneca, from church to church. And I don't know what
-
Jesus preached. I know he wasn't preaching the testimonies are the saints that were
-
finding a new Testament. I don't know exactly well he was preaching. He
-
probably wasn't really preaching about himself, but he was preaching the word. He
-
was preaching things that people don't want to hear anything about today. He was
-
preaching on commitment to gathering together. He was preaching on devotion of one God.
-
He was preaching on us had another God's before us our sure if he
-
took a text to her, he done walked us right on down the ten
-
commitments and all of the other commitments that so many people have repeated her over
-
and over again the others. But Jesus did not let them down her.
-
He did not send them home without substinence, without something. He taught us
-
in a sermon on the mountain. All of this wonderful things Son of them
-
to be attitudes. And he talked about how people are dressed, He talked
-
about how people are cluster. There was so much for him to say.
-
I said, there was so much for him to say. Some people wanted
-
to hear, some people didn't. But at this time his accotism was unmistakable.
-
There are what people being trold to his ministry. I don't know why
-
they came only for the lows and offices, or for the miracles, or
-
to hear his word. Whatever their moons were, he still preach to them.
-
We don't need to put a starbutcher in the foyer of the church.
-
We can go there after church. We don't need a lot show, we
-
don't need a snow screen. The tin and Jesus Christ and preaching her on
-
Ald is enough. You see, all these gospel writers, they had one
-
mine in one goal where they put pen the parchment. Their purpose and their
-
goal was the point man that Jesus. They wanted to tell a story.
-
They want to speak of this ministry. They want to speak of His ministry.
-
And that's the way every sermon should be. At some point, if
-
it's in the beginning, in the middle, or in the end, the
-
emphasis should be on Jesus. And that's what we find out here in this
-
narrative. Something that really happened. Jesus is in the house. I don't
-
know in the missions of this structure, but I do know a little bit
-
about houses from that day and Arabaica years ago. We never a studying some
-
of the architectural design that was in the lantern during this time period. And
-
I know that the houses were not exactly big, but sister, would I
-
know they were big enough to host Jesus and some people. I guarantee you
-
not only that was not our school, the yard was fool. I'm telling
-
somebody in this beauty tonight. The church did not let you down. The
-
preacher has not lets you down. Your preas have not let you down.
-
We're doing everything we can to get to the Jesus. If we got lost
-
her, we're gonna try to test the Father who just then. But that's
-
what I'm dealing with. I told you I'm coming out from a different ankle.
-
We're not trying to let you Dona, We're trying to pick you up.
-
Every time a preacher takes a text and the Holy g gives him a
-
title and the gold a text, he's not trying to let you down,
-
no matter how sorry you're for you for yourself, no matter how fat your
-
toes are. That's what he stepped over him. He's not trying to let
-
you an her. He's trying to pick you up. Jesus was an of
-
Republicans and the sinners. This friend was not trying to disappoint anybody, those
-
that were unable to get to him. He wasn't deliberately trying to keep them
-
shut out. Those that were on the front pew. There were criticizers,
-
the scribs, the Pharisees, the Sadducees that were taking notes, trying to
-
find a slip of the tongue, trying to find something that he said that
-
was wrong. I don't know who else listening online, but I ain't got
-
but just a small little slipper of paper in front of me, and I
-
got a few notes on it with three points and a text, and I
-
were running with it and preaching what God has got on me to preach.
-
And I hope I haven't had a slip of the tongue or said anything wrong.
-
I don't feel luck I have, but I do know that the mythel
-
holding this church has spelt the presence of God in the house, and not
-
just why God is building this church because of the magnetism Jesus. Let's not
-
because of a personality on a charisma, a charity, a charity how them.
-
Let's not because we got a Starbucks and are talking there. What's in
-
the Restamile No it's because on a magnetism, on a spill, it's because
-
of his center states it's all about Jesus. I said, it's all about
-
to Jesus in the house. He preached a message. He preached a message.
-
He had points. There was a point to it, not the points
-
like we're familiar with in most modern gods and preachers messages. But he was
-
very appointed, and he was very particular. He chose his words wisely.
-
Sometimes with those points he provoked, and sometimes with those points he pampered.
-
If you would. There was never a time that Jesus gave him sugar cookies
-
when they needed man. Never a time, Brother Nathaniel, that he laced
-
on his sugar in order to make somebody think more of himself. The day
-
we had to have pancake breakfasts here to Holy Crown is the day that we
-
have lost to the anorting of God and the person Jesus Christ of being present.
-
But I do want to move on to this third point. He did
-
perform miracles, and I believe that he's the same yesterday, today and forever.
-
I believe the brother Philip got that good reporter from the doctor because Jesus
-
is performing miracle that I'm not gonna stop praying and praying is working. I'm
-
gonna pray now more that I never pray before. For brother Philip. I
-
wants in another This church is no different than any other church. But Jesus
-
is out. The Word of God is cooling, porka and miracle for going
-
part do you go? Healing was included that if you told me salvation,
-
yes, sir, but also he I want you to know you don't have
-
to die I read or failure. Man. You don't have to die of
-
bristless except you don't have to die of cats. You don't have to die.
-
And I'll tell us I'll don't. We're gonna die, stuthing he but
-
we might as well pray, put out these things and calls her. I'll
-
tect this proof positive. That won't Jesus. He's in the house, so
-
I can expect her. He impossible. He Jesus, he's in the household.
-
I expect nothing more than a miraclap, nothing alsome than a mirrow clad
-
amen who performed miracles. Praise the Lord. I'm doing this for you,
-
Jesus would say, Father, I'm praying for them. He wasn't trying to
-
let anybody down. Judas felt like he let them down. Thank you,
-
hold of God. Judas expected the Lord to rule over this world as a
-
one world king. Judas expected Jesus to go to the throne. Jesus planned
-
to at a later date that would happen just exactly as Judas supposed it to
-
be. So. But you know what, Judas prematurely he came to the
-
conclusion because things are not happening on my timeline, where my schedule planning the
-
way I plan for it to be. I'm just gonna give up, o
-
Jesus, I'm gonna give up on my calling. I'm gonna give up on
-
God's plan. Oh yes, God had a plan for Judas, he certainly
-
did. But Judas felt like her Jesus let her him down. I want
-
to get to my text here. That fourth verse spoken of some men while
-
Jesus was preaching and just before it began to perform the miracles, there were
-
four men. I don't know the names of these men, but I know
-
that they knew Jesus was preaching and Jesus was performing miracles, and whether their
-
friend woman In or Nacha, they were gonna get him. There They may
-
have let this friend down by'm not attending a pity party. They may have
-
let this friend down by not taking them to the position. He could have
-
went the roots. Maybe he could have went somewhere else. And I'm sure
-
I still have question, what are you doing? Why are you taking me
-
to that house? It's not a doctor's office. The position does not live
-
there. I'm telling you, whatever Jesus is, the word of cod will
-
be felt, and the word itself will heal. I still believe that their
-
greatest miracles are performed by the preacher. A preacher. Why don't right the
-
harbor headn repot. Well, somebody punches me, you know, Oh it
-
says pray Ah. I mean it's you, a preacher, the uncle reading
-
a counsel. Well, he mean, I don't know how many times I've
-
been here while preaching, just simply preaching. Oh he is, ay man,
-
brother Philip, for you in the house, Brother Philip, Hey man,
-
I'm telling you, Brother Philip has been in the thick of it.
-
Sister Cheryl has been in the thick of it. Some of y'all have been
-
sick and suffering. And I thought about these friends. They got tired of
-
seeing their friends sick, and they got tired of her friends suffering, and
-
they went and said, you know what, you can't help yourself. And
-
apparently nobody else here, including family, is gonna do something about it.
-
Did the text say family came forward, I'm taking ampliositve friends or closer clan,
-
says somebody that was sorry from what we was going through. Somebody buried
-
their brother's burdens and renally went and took care, picked him up. This
-
paralyzed man plumping down on a car and made the track to Jesus. That's
-
what we're trying to do for those that are sick of suffering, and the
-
prodigal sons and daughters. We're trying to get them to Jesus. I want
-
you to know we can say to them, I'm doing this for you.
-
I'm not doing this for myself. I'm not letting you down. I know
-
I'm disappointing you that I'm not taking you to the er today. I know
-
I'm disappointing you that I'm not taking you to a natural cure and cancer.
-
I'm I'm disappointing you center print that I'm not gonna sit in the box stool
-
with you. I know I'm disappointed you that I want part of the cause
-
hall Hocking, but I want you to know I'll take us somewhere where you
-
could get help. I said, I'll take us some more where I could
-
be disappointed with an end result. I'll take us somewhere we will get that
-
helper we really need. We won't be able to find your buying a black
-
here, we won't be able to get your brand chip and having them planet
-
here. We won't be able to give you an antidote here. We won't
-
be able to give you the witch doctor's cocktail here. We won't be able
-
to put any sparkling powder on your here. But what we can do is
-
take you to the right place and put you in the presence of the right
-
person. All come on, And I thought that man probably said, what's
-
your doing? There's no use in this? Do you know how long I
-
have had this? And probably one prince said, trust me, he can
-
help you, And then another one said, yeah, I believe he can,
-
And another one said, yeah, I believe you can. And we
-
need him to help us here tonight. We need him to help us serve
-
us after service. You see, these men believe that Jesus would offer them
-
assistance when this situation. They also believe that Jesus was the answer for this
-
situation. A lot of times people get disappointed when you offer them assistance and
-
an answer for their marital problems, for their work issues, for their health
-
issues. You say, come to them with me the chance and start with
-
some kind of remedy for their relody, and they get so disappointed. No,
-
you want come to life with me. No you want take this subodo
-
beach with me. No you want to do this, sir. When I'm
-
telling you, when we need assistance and when we need an answer, the
-
best thing for us to do is not train their party, even if it's
-
a any party. Jesus, I said, I was bringing up babies.
-
They Jesus that spends the permanent members. Let's bring them to Jesus. In
-
the middle of this message, somewhere Jesus heard a shaking going on. There's
-
a shaking going on. And when I studied the architectural design of them houses
-
so many years ago, I remember seeing in that Bible dictionary that they had
-
stairs going up the side of the house, and I remember seeing the roof
-
double as a balcony of swords, and still to this day, that's the
-
way it is in some of them Third world countries, Brother Nathaniel. I
-
mean, it seems that they spent as much time on their roof as they
-
do inside the house. And there's the various reasons for that. I'm telling
-
you. Them climbing up on the housetop, there was nothing stranger significant about
-
that. I'm sure whenever that man saw them haulding them hauling him up them
-
steps, they thought, what he thought, what are you guys doing?
-
They ain't nothing up there for me. In fact, the man is doing
-
the preaching, and everybody's here to see. It's somewhere under the tiles.
-
Seems like one of the gospel writers said they pulled back the tiles at some
-
point, Brother Jeremiah, you think with me now, as that man don't
-
what in the world are these friends of mine doing? Why are bringing it
-
to a place like this, and why interrupt the service? Now. I've
-
had some strange interruptions as a pastor over the years. There's been some kids
-
wall out because Mama teached them while Mama was under conviction. We've had some
-
strangers run in and out of the church. We've had some people that have
-
been released from jail coming to the church, popping a few and go to
-
sleep. Brother fill up with me preaching and people shouting and hollering. I
-
guess there was the only place they could find some peace of tranquility and get
-
some rest. I've seen some strange interruption, sister Whotingham. But as the
-
Prince of Preachers was preaching now, I couldn't imagine listening to Jesus and being
-
distracted. I mean, at twelve years of age, he had the Pharisees
-
describes and the Saducees mesmerized as they listen to counsel are preaching. They just
-
said, how does this kid know? All of these things were? Imagine
-
with me Now he's thirty years old. Everybody's tuned in. His critics are
-
trying to find fault. And suddenly there's a rustling going on in the tals.
-
Y'all know we got talk seeing her. Imagine suddenly somebody saying, is
-
that a lizard? That is that one of the Burmese pots? Aren'ts has
-
had a cooon's had apostle? What's going hold up there? And sudden that
-
Jesus is interrupted. I'm telling you by something that nobody anticipated her and nobody
-
expected her and Foig men stuck their heads down through that and they looked and
-
said, yeah, we guessed it right. He's right there. They are
-
telling you you are right. That's how that Churchill that isn't such good shaper
-
that when they do come, they could be the presidents of God. You
-
are boys and girls to their surn and that is specifically and they could say,
-
yes, pastor, we're right, blessing for me. Yes, sir,
-
I brought the spear of God. Yes, I preta the draw and
-
others present. So with CIB step by step each and every day service after
-
service, we try to get up to the ceiling. We try to get
-
it up high. Brother Jarmah, little sister Howld and brother Howell. We
-
know we got six kids and now that family of aid has turned into a
-
family of twenty four. They tell me, by the end of twenty twenty
-
four, we'll have fourteen grand it's as including Jephtha how many not just say
-
fourteen grandkids by the end of twenty twenty four, Sister how I was only
-
forty seven and forty eight years of age. Brother Jeremiah, you talking about
-
packed that's how my living room was. Well, we had twenty four people
-
in it the other day, and I've got a pretty good sized living room
-
and all of them presents, everybody buying, everybody presents. I'm telling you
-
the house was filled. Now here's people sweating their shoulder to shoulder. There
-
was no such thing as right God left God Brew Os five and none of
-
that junk back then. And I'm telling you, brother Samuel, that's just
-
probably slightly agitated at this point that somebody would be interrupting the teacher as he
-
teaches. But it's miracle time. I said, it's miracle time. And
-
that's what the Holy Ghost is welcome to do here. Any time a preacher
-
is preaching, any time a teacher is teaching, or the saying or as
-
saying, I know it's singing. If the singer is singing, and the
-
Holy Ghost is welcome. The highjackal this service. And there can be a
-
divide interruption at any rollment. Somebody with it's my friend or her family member.
-
They can obey gard as long as that get me her in the presence
-
of Jesus. I said, service after service, day after day, with
-
timeless steps, and we got to try somebody bombs and Garta, It'll be
-
working to dry them to the mountain topsa I said, it'd be working to
-
try to the top of not Veriah. It'll be working to dry girl Creator
-
and your family, gimber her to the root topper. If that's what you
-
got to do. I remember when the Howards her struggling. I'd say it's
-
time to go to church. I said, it's time to go to Tucha.
-
You might not real life, how glad you need to be there.
-
You might not I paralyze your long, but you need to be there.
-
I said, we need to be there. We need to be there with
-
the Holy girls his movement. So these men begin to let their friend down.
-
That's the kind of letdown I want. If you're gonna let me down,
-
do it in the presence of the Lord. If you're gonna let me
-
down, be speaking in tongues when you do it. I'm sure that whenever
-
Abraham let Isaac down on that altar, he was in the spirit. I'm
-
not saying he's speaking in tongues, but I'm telling you he was in the
-
very preasence o the Lord. In that ram that was in this thicket begin
-
to shake and there was a substitution for Isaac. I'm telling your church,
-
it doesn't matter how down and out somebody gets, they get down and out.
-
And I'm talking about in the bully Grubbs sometimes just the wood, and
-
David is familiar with that. The people felt like he had let them down
-
and sit back, had been burned with fire, everybody saying, look count
-
day, even let us down. Look cowt, they even failed us.
-
And brother Jesse, they were gonna stole that man they loved so much.
-
It's not a letdown for your parents to sit you down and tell you how
-
things gonna be. This shouldn't be a letdown for the pastor to tell you
-
how you could improve and do better, because you do need to improve in
-
your situation. You do need improvement, and that's what these men knew.
-
I can't take you to the doctor, but I can take you to Jesus,
-
brother Philip. I may not be able to take you in the operating
-
room and perform a surgery on you, simply because I didn't choose to go
-
that route was goold sister Shriff. I may not be able to take you
-
into an operating room and take one kid out of somebody else in you.
-
But I know a man that can heal y'all in a moment, and every
-
other person in this building in a moment, and anybody else that God brings
-
in, not that a parent brings in by deception or manipulation. Now us
-
trying to force the hand of God to move, But I'm talking about when
-
that old fashioned conviction comes in, you won't be able to keep him out.
-
When the spirit of God helps him return to their senses, they'll say,
-
wait a minute, my dad ain't in the hot business. My dad
-
ain't in the hot business. My mama ain't one of these women of his
-
repute. Are feel the preacher in this place? His parents let him now?
-
But dad and mom did not let him now. And he said,
-
I'm gonna go back to the father's house where there's bread enough to spare.
-
There is no need at all whatsoever for need to Paris with hunger. And
-
I'm telling them, moms and dads, just go ahead and drag them corseats
-
into the house of Carder, Go and talking ladies into the house of Carder,
-
troll them in the one of the country, call come on the corner,
-
parteaser fuck. Put them rot in the passive truck cover Lord knock them
-
car seats down by the long time and let teens has helped them. How
-
many times did this paralytic man say, just stop, really, it's not
-
worth it. Just stop, really, I don't need this. Just stop.
-
I'm gonna be disappointed. I've tried this, I've tried that. Neither
-
worked. I've been carried here and I've been carried there. Nothing has worked.
-
I have talked to people before about things developed and fostered friendship with the
-
objective of getting them to church. And finally, when the situation was conducive
-
for an invitation, I said, why don't you go to church? And
-
they have literally said if you either wanted to go fishing, I don't went
-
fishing. If you were to go shopping, I went shopping with you.
-
You're a cool god. Love to hang out with you. If you wanted
-
to go to Bass Road, we go hang out at Basket Brow. If
-
you want to go have a stake in Lake Longmoorn, we can do it.
-
But don't preach Tom, don't talk to me, just be my friend.
-
And when I say no, my plan was for us to be together
-
in church. Suddenly I let them down as we stand to be dismissed tonight
-
after we prayed. We never know what's going to happen in a service.
-
Tonight can be the night that you get healed. I remember my senior year
-
in high school. I can't remember exactly the reason for the assembly, but
-
something along these lines were stated, we need certain members of the junior and
-
senior class, and I believe they called our names over the public address system.
-
They said, we need you to go to room numbers so and so.
-
I noticed that when we got there, there might have been twenty of
-
us in that room out of how many attended at Mulboro High School. While
-
we were in there, our class president began to talk to us about graduation
-
and some of the extracurricular activities and some of the other things that we would
-
be doing, including from and as we were in there, the conversation went
-
the wrong way and those who smoked pot and used drugs begin to talk to
-
about what they would be doing at grad night, what they would be doing
-
at prom, what they would be doing after they graduated, and it was
-
all geared towards partying and being loud. And I have been saved too long.
-
I remember the Holy Ghost was grieved within me. And I had been
-
really close with all of those people for a long time. They all loved
-
mcderley. And as they talked about drugging and fornicate and all this stuff,
-
I stood up. As very Jesse comes to the pen, I'll finish the
-
store. I stood up. And it was unlike me to challenge anyone.
-
It was unlike me to have conflict. It was unlike me to send people
-
straight and with both hands and proast pockets, I said, Hey, there's
-
a bunch of you that help your youth pastor of church. I know you
-
do down there at the Baptist Church, at the Meto's Church, at the
-
Lutheran Church Presbytent Church. Apparently those of us that are in this room were
-
people of influence, and they want us to steer in our class and the
-
and they've asked us to kind of set the atmosphere in the stage for what
-
the rest of the class is gonna do, because they're gonna follow our lead.
-
And I stood up and said, why don't we all just be Christians?
-
Why don't we just freach the message of Jesus. Why don't we just
-
be a good example of our fears and not lead them into drugs and illicit
-
sex. And why don't we just be a good example. I saw head
-
after head fall, chins hit and chest, and then I saw some just
-
glare at me would be de wight looking eyes and Brother Jonathan. Immediately I
-
felt betrayal. I felt they hated me. Something was in them that I
-
did not anticipate to be there. Something was in them that I did not
-
expect. I realized they didn't have the same plans that I had. Their
-
ways and their thoughts or not. Akin to Bid and Brother Roquep, I
-
realized I had poked the bear, I had opened the hornage to this.
-
It was a good thing. I'd be leaving campus in a couple of weeks,
-
Brother Jeremiah. For years I thought about how I let them down,
-
how I disappointed them, how I broke their heart, how I wrocked their
-
boat, how I interrupted their party. Finally, about ten years later,
-
I hired one of the young men that had been in there that day,
-
and he ended up working for me, and I asked him when the time
-
was right, I said, let me tell you something that has haunted me
-
and bothered me for years. I said, I was always a good reputation
-
with u all. We were leaders at the school. We were highly respected.
-
We ran for calendar couple, we all ran for homecoming King and queen.
-
We just were the people that influenced our class. And I thought we
-
were all headed in the right direction. I didn't think glorified party and it
-
getting drunk. I said, why did that go that night? I said,
-
Man, I feel terrible about the way I hurt you all. I
-
said, I didn't have that intention. It wasn't my plan to make you
-
all feel bad, I said, but I've been haunted by this for years.
-
I wanted to ask y'all, why did y'all turn on me? Why
-
did y'all hate me so much? They called me Jay back then, he
-
said, Jay, let me tell you something. He said. It wasn't
-
that you disappointed us. It wasn't that we thought you hated us. It
-
wasn't that we thought you were preaching to us. He said, Man,
-
we talked about it later after you walked out. He said, Well,
-
y'all felt convicted. He said, we felt about a quarter inch tall.
-
He said, we were ashamed of ourselves. We have friends. Let you
-
down, y'all picture me as the cot descended through that space where that tile
-
was, and that friend came down. He's let down in the Treasures of
-
Jesus. And that's, young man, how you feel. You're making it
-
out as though you're being let down, But we're doing it for your good.
-
You don't need to be on a rocket soaring into the sky. You
-
don't need to be on Tide's rocket ship going into high places. We're trying
-
to tenderly let you down because if we could just get you on your knees
-
and get you in the Treasures of Jesus. What his friend's thought was his
-
issue wasn't even his real issue. They thought, man, above all things,
-
he needs a healing, he needs to be back up on his feet.
-
But Jesus showed everybody in the house what the greatest issue was, and
-
that's what pastor has been trying to say. I'm trying to let you down.
-
Before the preasents of Gediesus, Jesus said, your real issue is,
-
boy, you need to be saved. And that's when people in the building
-
they begin to say, who can forgive sins? But God only who does
-
Jesus think he is to be telling this man after he addresses him by name,
-
Son, your sins are forgiven. Son. Sometimes when the preacher gets
-
on your toes, he steps and flats of board. He's letting you down
-
for your good. When Joseph was let down into that pit his friends,
-
if you will let him down and Brother Samuel, years later, Joseph said,
-
don't worry about it. You didn't let me down. You hurt me,
-
you crushed me. We don't worry about it. I realize now that
-
what you meant for evil was meant for my good. These friends didn't mean
-
evil for their friends. But since the how, there's been times that you
-
and I have brought our kids to church thinking they needed this, They needed
-
that. Little do we know Jesus want to work on their hearts. Move
-
to Dad, You've been praying for your children about issues, and you're convinced
-
that's the worst issue, that's the greatest need. But in Jesus, he
-
just reaches around and just really touches them right when they need to be touched.
-
Brother Jeremiah, Sometimes we think the issue is our lower back needs to
-
be healed, but Jesus knows the real issues our for it needs to be
-
touched. I have preached tonight without any notes, with three points in a
-
scripture, and there's somebody in this building asking this question right now? What
-
good will this do? What good will? Preach? And do? What
-
good will church? And do? What good will a pastor do? Me?
-
Will I never be benefited? You have to believe that in a moment,
-
the heavens will be open for you. In a moment miracles will happen.
-
Brother Philip, Let's bow our heads tonight, and let's pray if you're
-
that young person tonight that i'm preaching to raise your hand one two, three
-
four. Last week I preached on hope for the underdog. This week I'm
-
preaching to you you found things to be a disappointment that actually are your greatest
-
blessings, Brother Samuel. What was interesting as I read through them few verses
-
in a moment five minutes before I walked out of my office, I noticed
-
this man was not even praying for himself. He wasn't even putting a request
-
and to be brought to Jesus. What you ought to be is thankful right
-
now that there's even a message going forward, and that there's even a fool
-
for your soul that in itself should bless you and encourage you. If you
-
feel like praying, would you just come? Everybody will find a place to
-
pray. When friends let you down, things are not always as we're supposed
-
to be. The preacher he let me down. He preached little holdiness.
-
He preach the word, He preach truth. Who treats righteousness? He offended
-
me, He hurt me. M Did he really or did he help him?
-
Did he hurt you or did he help him? Did he bring any
-
John Mark apparently went to Cyprus what Barnabus Barnabas worked on him, He pulled
-
for him, He talked him, he instructed him. Later on the Apostle,
-
Paul said, you know that man that let me down, john Mark?
-
Bring him to me for he's talk over for the ministry. I believe
-
in you. Jesus believes in you. Your friends believe in you. We're
-
trying to get you to Jesus. If somebody take me to where Jesus and
-
his mom and dad let him down in his press, Take him to Jesus,
-
take him into her, take him jes h Jesus, Jesus is your
-
body. Take me where Jesus. Take me to where Jesus says what Jesus
-
says. Me, boy, it can't be where Cheese. Take me said
-
where Jesus. Choice tell me their fast me God mes m Hmby take me
-
where Jesus is, where Jesus sits? You think anybody telling me where Jesus.
-
God, take me where Jesus is, where Jesus you mean by take
-
me to where Jesus is? You need anybody take me even where Jesus says.
-
Where Jesus is, you need anybody take me to well Jeese? Anybody
-
take me where Jesus where she Jesus. Anybody take me to where cheese.
-
I heard that he can heal a broken heart, he can put back a
-
live ton torn apart. You can mean anybody take me Jesus where Jesus says.
-
Can mean anybody take me to where Jesus. Can mean anybody say me
-
where Jesus is. Where Jesus said can be? Anybody take me to where
-
Jesus is. I heard that heat can heal a broken arm, where he
-
can put back a life that's been torn apart. To take me where he
-
is? Oh can mean anybody take me to which GESUSI Jesuses. Anybody say
-
me do wherees see
