The obstinate oracle - Bro Jeremy Howell 1-3-2024

Oracle, the obstinate Oracle. If you have your Bibles, will you turn

with me through Saint Matthew's Gospel. May I direct your attention to the twelfth

chapter and the fortieth verse. If you're excited about the church's corporate fast,

say amen, I sure do appreciate you being in the house of the Lord.

I'm thankful for your willingness to participate in this fast. It is a

type of Daniels Fast, and we will be going for ten days. I

can tell that some of you have fasted completely today in your weakened body,

but further in spirit. For that we are most thankful. Brother Nathaniel,

Will you turn to Saint Matthew's Gospel in the twenty first chapter. You will

be reading a few verses to us tonight, the twenty eighth through the thirty

first verse. Brother Jesse Jonah chapter number one and verse number two. How

many of you are familiar with the biblical character Jonah? Would anybody want to

be in his shoes? How do you feel about him? Do you feel

like you made it to heaven? Do you feel like you're repented and got

things right with the Lord? Hey, man, I don't know He's one

of those guys like Solomon. I just would not want to be found in

their shoe leather. I'm glad the Lord is a merciful God. I'm glad

for changes of hearts and minds and people. And I just want to believe

guys like that got things fixed up with the Lord and made it to heaven

that they're in the presence of the Lord. I'm going to preach a little

bit about this prophet Jolah tonight the obstinate oracle, Brother Nathaniel, will you

read Matthew twenty one twenty eight through thirty one? But what thank you?

A certain man had two sons, and he came to the first and said,

son, go work today in my vineyard. And he entered and said,

I will not. But afterward he repented and went. And he came

to the second, said likewise, And he entered and said, I go,

sir, And he went. Not hither of them did the will of

his father. They said to him the first Jesus says, under them,

barely, I say, and to you, the publicans and hearts going to

the Kingdom of God. Before you, did y'all catch that? Did y'all

hear what? Brother Nathaniel just read to us. Was anybody distracted? Did

you missage? Should he read it to us again? I don't think so.

I think y'all called it. I can tell by your expression if you'll

think with me regarding that first son, Immediately he said, no, I

will not go. But he went, let's see how the Holy Ghost connects

these dots for us tonight. I was seeking the Lord regarding tonight's service.

He whispered this title in my heart, the obstinate Oracle. And things begin

to fall together, and I'm thankful for that. I want to say remember

this at the end of this message. Jonah originally answered the Lord with these

words, no, Lord, I don't want to go. But when all

of a sudden done, he went, I'm telling you I pray for an

obedient people more now than I ever have before, because I realize just how

important obedience is. I'm afraid there are a lot of people doing the opposite

of obedience. Look at your neighbor and say, hey, neighbor, do

not do the opposite of obedience, Brother Jesse. Let's hear of this from

Jonah chapter number one, in verse number two, Arise, go to Nen

of it that great city. You cry against it, for their wickedness has

come up before me, and Jonah, like the first son, said,

no, I will not go. There's somebody in this building tonight, maybe

three or four in number, because here, lady, who seems like the

Lord has been showing me that there's three or four in number amongst our sixty

five that are for some reason swimming against the current of the Holy and the

Bethel Holiness Church. They're going in the opposite direction of what the Lord had

sent us to do. It's called disobedience. Let's stand for the reading of

our golden text, Saint Matthew's Gospel, chapter number twenty, verse number forty.

The Bible said, for as Jolas was three days and three nights in

the Welsh Valley, so shall the Son of Man be three days and three

nights in the heart of the earth. Does anybody in this building intend on

making hell your home? In order to avoid making hell your home, You're

gonna have to learn how to be obedient to the voice and the words of

the Lord. Let's pray, Heavenly Father, we love and we praise you.

We thank you for the opportunity to be in your house. I thank

you for these precious people. I pray that you would annoyt this thy servant,

set a guard at my mouth, help to say the things that you

would happen to say, nothing more and less, and not the ears of

this thy people, that they might hear what the spirits say to the churches

this night through this blessed word of God, this preach word. I pray,

not our words, but your words. Lord. Let them go below

the shoulders. Let them get in that heart and mind. I pray,

God, let them get in that soul and spirit. I pray that they

would not hear these words only, but be hearers and those that heeded them.

We ask you to help us to depart this place joyfully and not sorrowfully,

at Jesus' name. And the church said, hey, man, look

at your neighbor and say, hey, neighbor, are you that obstinate oracle?

I hope not. Our text is found in a New Testament book of

the Holy Bible, the Book of Matthews. Saint Matthew's Gospel is the first

book of the New Testament. Matthew, named Levi, the former tax collector

turned disciple of Jesus, opens the door for the readers of the Bible to

walk into the new Covenant of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. As

I read through this book of the Bible, I come to the twelfth chapter,

and my eyes soon fixate upon this passage of scripture that is before us

tonight, our golden texts Matthew, chapter number twelve and verse number forty.

The Bible reader knows a lot about the Bible character that is mentioned in this

particular passage of scripture. How many of you are familiar with this Biblical character,

Jonah. Let me see a showing of hands. It seems to me

that ninety five percent of the people in this building are very familiar with this

prophet Jonah. In fact, this prophet Jonah stands out before us tonight.

I feel like this message will be just check full of information regarding things that

were so evident to other people that were within this man's life. How many

of you know that people can see who you really are? There are times

that we deceive ourselves. The Bible said that the heart is evil, it's

desperately wicked. The Bible said sometimes a person is unable to know their own

heart. They're unable to identify themselves. But people on the outside oftentimes know

us better than we know ourselves. How do they know us? They know

us by our actions. I know that the Lord he is a deserter of

the thoughts and the intents or the intentions of the heart. But there's a

lot of people watching us. They see our daily lives, They watch our

matter of life. They listen to our conversation, the way we communicate with

that person on the job, the way we answer our employer, the way

we amen or we do not amen the pastor the way we're a why the

preacher is preaching, or why the teacher is teaching. I believe that there

are people in this building that we know them by their fruits. Look at

your neighbor and say, hey, neighbor, I know you better than you

think I do. I'm sure there were a lot of people that knew that

Jolah had a natural tendency to be irritable, a natural tendency to be angry.

We also find something about this biblical character Jolah, and that he was

a racist. I'm trying to race against time tonight in order not to hold

you very long, but I want you to know there is much to be

learned in the life of Jolah. If you'll do a character study on the

life of Jonah, there is much to learn. How many people in this

building tonight would like to spend three days and three knots in a wells belly?

Even the most adventurous person among us, brother Nathaniel Howell, would not

want to spend three days or three knots in the belly of a great fish.

How many would lock to go on one of them cavern adventures where you

explore the caves and you get in them fine tied places that are confined.

How many of you lock to get in there where you wedge your shoulders up

between the cave walls and you have to inch like an inch word squirm through

that cavern like you navigate through some kind of Swiss cheese or something. Any

volunteers will take a trip a church trip, will go do that? Nobody

is volunteering for that. I know that we admire the life of Joah.

We thank God for the end result of his ministry, that an entire capital

city was converted after this preacher preached. But I want you to know there

was some things about this man that were not pleasing to God. We take

for granted. Sometimes just because we are a child of God, we feel

like our actions are pleasing to the Lord. Because we pastor at church over

the first Lady of the church, or we evangelize, we teach, we're

a missionary, we preach, we assume that our actions are pleasing to the

Lord. Or perhaps you say, I attend the beth of Home in the

church. I sit on that church's views. Every single service. I hear

my pastor, Brother Jeremy Howell preach. I hear my son this school teacher,

Brother Justin Rokap or Brother Nathaniel Howell teach. I must be pleasing to

the Lord Heaven. Have ever felt like you please the Lord? There's been

times in our Christian walk and experiences that we have felt like we have pleased

the Lord Heaven. In this building tonight, have ever felt like you have

sorely displeased the Lord? I want you to know that this obedience is one

of the ways that of profess and Christian or somebody that proclaims to be a

Christian can sorely disappoint the Lord and displease him. We do not understand the

significance of our actions when we displease the Lord, we do not realize just

how upset the Lord gets. For the lack of a better word, he

is furious with the wicked every day. And when the Lord speaks something directly

to us, as he did this man Jolah, and we deliberately turn and

go in the opposite direction of obedience, the Lord is sorely displeased. So

when I think of Joonah, I don't think of the city of Ninnerhood being

converted. When I think of Jonah, I think of a disobedient prophet.

I think of the obstinate oracle. I think of that man whose actions got

him ended up in a belly of a large fish. How many in this

building would want to trade place with Jonah. I believe that the man made

it. I hope he did. I hope he's absent in body and imprisoned

with the Lord. But I'm not so sure about that because he was so

obstinate. And that's how a lot of pastors feel. They notice that there

are sheep people that are supposed to be the children of God, but they

have the attributes are the characteristics of a God. Let me tell you something

a little bit about Jonah. Here he was obstinate. Yes, he was

stubbornly refusing to change his opinion or his course of action, despite the numerous

attempts to persuade him to do otherwise. How many of you know that the

Holy Ghost has been speaking to us a lot over the last six months,

repeatedly of things that we are to do in order to please the Lord.

But we have been that person that has stubbornly refused to change our opinion and

our course despite the numerous attempt to persuade us to new otherwise. We've heard

the preacher preacher, We've heard the teacher teach. We've even heard the gifts

of a spirit being used here in our services of Some obedient servant of the

Lord submitted themselves and then talked to the Holy Girls and a message was given.

Another obedient soul submitted their voice box to the Lord and an interpretation of

that message was given. It turned some people's heart back to the right direction,

while others continued going in the opposite direction. I want you to know

to now that there are people in this building that are bent towards the wrong

direction. They just, for some reason, when the church goes in a

certain direction, they want to go in another direction. I just had something

come to mind. I was talking to a pastor of a very large church

who has a lot of people in his congregation, only a few days ago,

and he was telling me about a young man that had recently been converted.

He said, when the entire church would enter in one door and come

in a certain way, he said, you could count on this young man

to come in the other door and come in the wrong way. He said,

that is the best way to describe that young man. But he said

when he finally got to saved and finally got converted, I met him coming

from the right direction. He said. My first words to him wasn't you

have met Jesus? I want you to know if you are like Matthew,

the author of this gospel from which our gold in text comes from, when

Jesus comes to your place of business, or when he comes to the door

of your heart and he knocks on your door, whether it's a to receive

a custom, Matthew, whether it's on the haunt's door, but the tower,

when that knock comes, knock on that bill mother. The thing that

our answer ought to be a resounding yes. When the Lord requires us to

God can use. He's somebody that God loves and trust enough to counting people

and to put him in the ministry. But rEFInd, there is this trait

or tendency in Jonah's life to beat this obedient. You will remember the same

trait of characteristic could be found in the life of the impossible Paul. He's

supposed to be the Gospel's number one promoter, but for some reason he finds

himself being the most number one. Well, what you call it? I

say it all the time. Persecutor of the Gospel simply Ben calls it obedience.

This is why when Jesus appeared to him in a bright light, Apostle

Paul said that light had shown that day. It was brighter than the light

of it from the Noonday's servant. And when Jesus spoke to him, he

said, Paul, it's hard for you to keep her against the print better

said, I was obedient to the heavenly calling. Let me ask you a

God speaks to your soul. Let me tell you a little bit more about

the world's first submarine Captain Jonah and second Key, chapter number fourteen and verse

number twenty five. We find the name of his father. I'll let you

figure out how to pronounce the name of his father. In the Saint Bursto,

we see that Jonah was from kathy Fer. That is a town earth

village very close to Nazareth in Galilee. Most of you will know that Jonah

can serve as a type of Christ or a parallel to Christ. In fact,

Jesus gave a sign that he would spend three days and three nights in

the belly of the earth, just like Jonah had spent three days and three

I'm telling your God her missage. God did not miss when he gave

Jonah a divine assignment. God did not miss her when he gave Jesus a

divine assignment. And God did not miss tonight when he spoke those words into

my heart to often the oracle, You've gotta get me yond saying yes,

sir, pastor Amen, pastor, when you've got to do what it is

he saying you're gonna do this kind say any more than I preached a sermon

titled looking for Something. I'm sure there's people in this building with good intentions

and pure motives and looking for something good. But there's also people in this

building that are looking for a way out of doing what God has told him

to do. When I preached that message. Ty, I'm looking for something

I've talked about Malachi maybe struggling with a car only may be struggling with the

idea. They would have to fit friend his family and follow verbally that how

he was obedient to the calling, indeed what God told him to do.

The writings of Malaka only go for four chapters and then it's over. The

writings of the testimony of the Prophetjona, they also go only four chapters and

they are over. But there's so much to discover in both books, and

four chapters have concerning obedience and disobedience. I feel the Holy No, Sir,

even those two books in the Bible may be considered short. The melody

of those writings, I'm telling you, a brother, Chermiah, they could

be overlooked. And I know that there are lessons to be learned in them,

numerous lessons to be learned. Apparently Jesus and matthiformally attached collector out.

So what you call it? Jesus for an importent to remind us and Toldah

you gonna pay attention? And what God he is saying, and not I'm

The Lord Jesus was reaching for a people. And while he was reaching

for a people, being obedient to that heaven and calling himself, while he

was active, taking action and doing that that he had desired to do since

he was twelve years old, he was about his father's business. There are

some people asking him for more. Why is it that you ask us for

more than what you're getting. I'm telling you, the atmosphere and the environment

here is certainly conducive for anybody that is searching for something in the Lord or

from the Lord. I'm telling you, God is doing wonderful things for every

person in this beauty. The sister Rubellus, Crimes and Pharisees sitting there and

listening to Jesus, and they were asking for more. What were they were

asking for from the Son of God, the man that was the bird of

life himself, the man that was the light of the world, the man

that was the answer to every problem the Jews and that gentles had. Why

would they ask her for more? Why do you want more? It's rushing.

Why do you need more admonistance and more acutations? I don't take time.

Is that you need any more than what com does there any say for

you to be introl there? Nor problem is we refuse to do what God

said, though, So Jesus, holdo your teacher, God Jesus, But

Master, let me call you by your proper name, master teacher, as

some of us called you when you were twelve years of age, when you

were schooling us in the temple. We accept the fact that you're great.

We accept the fact that you're anointed. We accept the fact that you possess

an unbelievable knowledge of scripture. In fact that the Sahedrin we have talked in

secrecy. How does this man now know the things that he knows? Being

from Galilee and Sister Rootiness. People in this building they act oblivious to what

we are saying with Sister Woodness, morning and mourning and the Holy GUSTA with

Sister how old is groaning and growling and the Holy Gost. Whether it's street

tears or through prefering prayer, you can tell these two birds of his Nor

I can tell what's again, you're missing it. In this twelfth chapter,

these Pharisees and the scribes learned people scripture, people that knew the writings

of Jehovah, people that had memorized them. I know you know it since

you were a child. They addressed him as master. We would see a

sign from the whatever sister Wood gets heal from capture, then I'll start seeking

the Holy Ghost right whenever I find somebody that I could provide for, and

when Missus Wright considerduced to me by God and the Holy Ghost in the church,

and then I'll start doing right. I need another sign. I need

that a sign had already been given, and he went on to say an

blood shilling siren and screams and howling of emergency vehicles. There's the EMTs and

the fireman hit the panic button. They got hysterical, Sister Walker, and

I told Sister how I said, that is not the way they normally do

that. They are trying to manifesto to the tended up the bridge that there's

a crisis, there's something super battle that's out of the ordinary, and you've

gotta stop everybody. You gotta stop that boat him, and we gotta drop

the bridge back down. Do you know what that bridge tender did. He

dropped the bridge back down, and he left the EMTs and the fire trucks

all over. I come on, somebody listen to the sound of the alarm.

Somebody paid attention. Good a fast, some life. You a real

The flashing lots are being manifested tonight. The sounds of alarms are ringing,

they're blaring. In fact, they're deafening the sounds being omitted in this message

the alarm the costs were concerned. For as Jonas was three days and three

knights in the wells belly, so shall the son of Man be three days

and three knights in the heart of the earth. How did Jonah end up

spending three knots and three days and ready perceived need to be a living hell?

It did not matter that it was day or night. The Holyess spoke

He found himself in such a state because of disobedience. Disobedience. The church

Train them children up, and the way they should go bring them up in

the nurture and the admonition of the Lord. I know it's not politically correct

to name things, so I will move on. But I can name a

host of things right here that would imprison a lot of us and also label

a lot of us as the obstinate oracle. We know good and well,

we know how to preach it as good as anybody else, but we just

don't want to do what God has told us to do. Concerning Jonah,

simply stated he's in what he considers to be held because of a failure and

refusal to obey the rules of the final authority, God himself. Cherity Howell

is not the final authority, but he is the pastoral authority in your life.

Tarrany Howl is not the pineal authority. She is that anchor for the

warmen of this church. She is that leader for a war of this church,

and I want you to know her. Sometimes you hear the force of

God through your teacher, through your preacher, through the dress stuff, through

your pastor, or through your parent. Listen, how can we hear the

force of God? I'll tell you how they hear. They'll hear her through

a preacher, and they will preach her if they won't be it after they've

been set, how shall they hear without a preacher? How shall they preach

unless they be? Said? Do you realize that God has been speaking to

us through his word as he speaks into our hearts? And do we not

realize we have not fully done what they told us to do? That's what

God saw his disobedience, King Soul, That's what God did Apostle Paul who

was Saul, his continual disobedience to Thank God that the apostle Paul, whose

name was changed to Paul from Saul, decided I needed to be obedient,

and may I throw this little nugget of truth. There There is a parallel

between the Old Testament Saul and the New Testament Saul in the fact that one

isn't just talking to talk. The other is talking to talk and walk in

the walk while the others only talking the talk. Y'all get this, Sir,

Ay Saul said I'm gonna go and I'm gonna do this. But when

it got right down to it, King Saul did not do what he said

he was gonna do. I'm telling you, sir, you better not lie

to the preacher, and you better not lie to the Holy Ghossa, you

better not lie to yourself. Is anybody in this house tonight? Who quick?

It's a peach? You better than I am tonight? How many of

you realize that God speaks to you through his word? This is the problem

with a lot of professor Christians that attend church services multiple times a week.

Oh yes, they have faithful church attendancy. But they hear, but they

are not those that heed. They hear, but they are not doers.

We all the boy used to sing the song why let you do what called

told you to do? Can a person directly disobeyed the Lord and not expect

him, then it be a big consequence. I'm telling you, you expect

your children to obey you. Why would you not expect God to expect you

to obtain His face? And when you're disobedient, there's going to be consequences.

Some are your parents that raise you to understand this, but some of

us were raised by parents that taught us there are consequences from disobedience. There

are consequences for our bad actions. So what are the dangers associated with disobedient

What are the dangers? What are they spending three days or three nights in

the belly of hell. The Lord was surely displeased with Jonah and stopped him

from continuing in his disobedience. The Bible said this in another place in the

New Testament and the Epistles, and said, shall we continue in sin that

grace may abound? God forbid? You said, what, preacher, I've

been doing it for six months and can buy with it. I don't know

how long you're gonna sell on that ship bound for Tarsius, but it's only

a matter of time till a storm that makes you roclandod look like a pitpsclet

storm calms you away. Apostle Paul might have spent a day in the night

of the tea put a piece of drift wood, but this storm that turned

out to pace. I'm telling you you're gonna think that your rocklandog storm it

all the worst trial your partner, the data. He's gonna be a dropper

in the bucket of a wrong pood of chaossa that's coming your way. If

you don't love how to do what I said, down you. When God

says hit your knees, you hit your knee. When God says seek my

place. The summer said, I've said unto thee. My response is thy

face. Will I see when God says stolen away? Because you become a

new creature, you have no problem discarded. When God said put on that

ornament of a meek and a quiet spirit, you have no problem at all

with obedience. I've seen the people before. The preacher gets inspired of the

holy girls to preacher gets something and they come in charge to and the pary

thane. The preacher preach the gifts. Now, I could get very specific

here, but I really be intelligent understand what I'm talking about. There is

a spirit that prevots us to be disobedient to the words of God. Well,

my parents told me to use this bathroom, so I'm gonna use the

other bathroom. My government said I should use the bathroom with the breeches on

the door, but I'm gonna use this one over here with a dress on

the door. Obstinate. Oh, sweet Jesus, We've got more talk radio

show hosts than we've ever had before. We've got more professors in churches than

we've ever had before. We've got churches on every street corner. We've got

preachers preaching. But brothers there they are not lovers of the truth, and

says they're not lovers of the truth. They do not proclaim the truth.

Do you know why? Because a lot of them would upset their own wife,

their own spouses, companions, their own children, and so they'd rather

disobey God than to do what God told them to do. Again, I

want you to remember something. There are sounds of sirens blaring, emitting of

calamity, chaos, and crisis. If the ship that Joer was aboard had

been a modern vessel, no doubt, there would have been the blaring of

the fog horn, no doubt there would have been a may day, Mayday,

mayday. What's the problem with his vessel? There's somebody down in the

bottom of the ship, hide between the studs, and they're sound asleep.

The ships are rocking. The old ship of Eyn is fair in the storm,

pretty good. But the mariners know, the seafaring man know that is

But in your minds you need to hear a horrible storm. You need to

see flashing lights. You need to hear blaring sirens. Admitting Christ and Jonah

are parallels. What I hope tonight we have done is turns you on your

heels and puts you back in the right direction. All the church is praying,

I'll pray all the church is fastened. There must be a cause.

All the people of God are doing it this way. I better do it

that way. The hope that I have for you tonight is that Jesus threw

himself into our storms, and Jesus himself descended into the belly of Hell.

He threw himself into your storm so that you wouldn't have to endure it.

I'm asking you here tonight to accept Jesus as your Lord and master. Let

him speak calm and your storm before you spend an eternity in hell. As

sure as I'm standing here, I know of two people in this building that

the Lord has revealed to me that they are not rival with God. If

Jesus was to come back tonight. Even though they feel like they're an oracle.

They can recite the Scripture verse in their son's school class, but their

heart is not right with God. I know of two people in this building

whose heart is not right with God, but they profess to have an agreement,

and it's alive now. I don't know what could get worse than a

storm, Brother rodcap and being thrown overboard. Can I tell you what's worse

finding yourself trapped in the belly of a large fish and wishing for a way

out. You know what's worse of being trapped in the belly of a large

fish, being stuck for eternity behind the gates of hell. Brother Caleb grabbed
