  7. Woo! Oh, that was kind of lame. Give me

  8. Give me a better woo. Woo! Woo! All

  9. right. Well, we're going to kick this

  10. off with our our

  11. pastor. I can't talk today, guys. I'm

  12. sorry.

  13. >> Pastor Benley, the man who is the

  14. legend. Come on up, coach.

  15. >> Praise the Lord.

  16. Aren't they fun?

  17. Hallelujah. Hey, it's a good day to be

  18. in church,

  19. >> man. Look at you guys. You guys see some

  20. jerseys out there? Uh the I just dress

  21. how the women in my life tell me to

  22. dress. So, look at this

  23. >> coach.

  24. See?

  25. And then and then they were asking,

  26. "Should I put coach on the on the coat?"

  27. I said, "No, I want to wear the coat

  28. forever."

  29. >> Yes.

  30. >> Yeah. So, I got the I got the coach

  31. outfit today. And uh man, we're going to

  32. be uh uh sharing with you a little bit

  33. about uh the capital campaign and uh you

  34. know, it's I I watched the Michigan game

  35. last night.

  36. >> It's very sad. I must have been. It's

  37. very sad. But you know, the kickoff is

  38. that big moment at the beginning of the

  39. game. That's that starts the game. And

  40. uh the kickoff doesn't mean that we won

  41. anything yet.

  42. The kickoff means that we need to get

  43. ourselves pulled together as a team and

  44. run the plays on the field.

  45. >> So, kickoff Sunday. Uh, hey, if you're a

  46. first- time guest with us, uh, welcome.

  47. My name is Ben. I have the opportunity

  48. to serve as lead pastor here. And, uh,

  49. like Miss Whitney said, our referee,

  50. man, you came on a good Sunday.

  51. >> And, uh, we are a little extra today,

  52. aren't we?

  53. >> Yeah. So, I want to start out by giving

  54. you the why behind the what and, uh,

  55. sharing with you kind of what are we up

  56. to here. And so, uh, really before we

  57. step into the most significant, one of

  58. the most significant seasons in the life

  59. of our church, I want to just speak

  60. directly to you. And it's not about

  61. numbers.

  62. It's not about money. Look at your

  63. neighbor and say,

  64. not talking about money today. Uh, I

  65. want to give you the why. Uh, why we're

  66. here in this season and really where God

  67. is leading us.

  68. I want to give you the why behind the

  69. what. You know, if you've been coming

  70. here for even just a couple of weeks or

  71. a couple of years, whatever it is, uh,

  72. you can feel the excitement in the room

  73. when we meet together. God is on the

  74. move. God is up to something. Uh, we've

  75. all felt it. There's a an energy uh in

  76. this church uh that God is moving us.

  77. And really on Sunday mornings, these

  78. walls are buzzing.

  79. >> Sometimes I walk over to the office uh

  80. between services or sometime with the

  81. worship team, the walls literally buzz

  82. outside, man. But but spiritually, even

  83. on the inside, man, there's this there's

  84. a buzz in the atmosphere. There's a

  85. sense that God is doing something big.

  86. And and really, I'm a stats guy. I'm a

  87. numbers guy. Uh the numbers confirm what

  88. we've been feeling and uh over the

  89. summer we spent time doing surveys and

  90. polls and all these different things.

  91. 90% of you had a positive feed gave us

  92. positive feedback that we should move

  93. forward into this direction. But uh the

  94. why behind the what we've seen over 50%

  95. increase in attendance in short order.

  96. >> That means people are getting saved. Uh

  97. we're currently seeing right around 240

  98. people every Sunday come through uh on a

  99. weekend. And so here's the reality. Uh

  100. professionals that know a whole lot more

  101. than we do say that this space, this

  102. building is designed between for between

  103. 97 and 129 people. Look at your neighbor

  104. and say that's a problem.

  105. >> We're quite literally overflowing with

  106. life. We're overflowing with salvation

  107. and freedom and redemption. And those

  108. are good problems to have. And I'll say

  109. this, God is not slowing down anytime

  110. soon

  111. >> because he is in the salvation business.

  112. Our biggest opportunity, I'm sorry, our

  113. biggest priority here with this campaign

  114. is not comfort. It's people.

  115. >> Our mission has not changed. Our

  116. capacity to fulfill it has.

  117. And I'll say this, our capacity to

  118. fulfill the mission that God has for

  119. this house has to change to get us

  120. there.

  121. >> So a campaign isn't about building a

  122. monument. Preached on that a few weeks

  123. ago. It's about fulfilling the mission.

  124. And not just for us in this space, but

  125. for generations to come.

  126. We're doing this essentially for people

  127. we may never meet

  128. until we get to heaven. And I think

  129. about our kids, our youth program.

  130. Uh this is what I believe about kids.

  131. They're not just the church of tomorrow.

  132. We hear that thrown around sometimes.

  133. The youth are the church of today.

  134. And too many churches I've been in, they

  135. have this great worship center for the

  136. adults and then the kids are shoved in

  137. this little space. I remember when I was

  138. a kid, I used to go to grandma's church

  139. and uh they would we had to go through

  140. this creepy old church into the basement

  141. in this little damp room and we'd all do

  142. little crafts together. It was like six

  143. kids in this space and I'm like, "Oh,

  144. this feels insane." I mean, the the

  145. church is an older church and beautiful.

  146. I love it. one of my favorite churches

  147. has all the stained glass and it's like

  148. ornate and like at some point in history

  149. people came together pitched in and

  150. built this incredible building and the

  151. kids get the little wet creepy basement

  152. with the pipes exposed in the ceiling

  153. and I'm like

  154. oh we're not that kind of church. So,

  155. one of our main initiatives is is

  156. thinking about our kid ministry area.

  157. And they need some space. And it's not

  158. just uh uh a room. It's not just more

  159. space. They need some functional space,

  160. some productive space, uh some engaging

  161. space where they can encounter the same

  162. Jesus that we know. and the uh

  163. facilitators, our teachers, those that

  164. are pouring into the next generation, uh

  165. feel like they have what they need in

  166. order to bless them and that we can

  167. train up as a church, train up the next

  168. generation in the way that they should

  169. go.

  170. >> So, this campaign is about securing the

  171. faith of the next generation.

  172. You guys know, if you've came here for

  173. any sort of time that we are an

  174. evangelistic church. It's our DNA. We

  175. love reaching new people and by God's

  176. grace, we're getting pretty good at it.

  177. Would you agree?

  178. >> But we are approaching a threshold.

  179. There's a spiritual ceiling that we're

  180. about to hit and it's made of drywall

  181. and steel.

  182. Look at your neighbor and say, "Bust

  183. down the walls."

  184. >> My goodness. We're going to raise the

  185. roof on this place. Woo.

  186. I almost started singing, but it wasn't

  187. a church song.

  188. It's running in some of your heads. I

  189. apologize for putting that song in your

  190. head. Listen, in one mile radius of

  191. here, there are thousands of people that

  192. need to hear the gospel message. There

  193. are thousands of lost souls, thousands

  194. of individuals that need a community of

  195. believers, a lifegiving church. Amen.

  196. >> And that's the why behind the what? We

  197. want to reach people. They're the

  198. mission field. They're the calling. And

  199. I don't want to be a church that's

  200. limited on who we can reach because

  201. we're limited on space.

  202. It's about a whole lot more than just a

  203. building. It's about legacy. This is

  204. what God gave me.

  205. 200 people can pitch in and build a

  206. structure. Not just physical structure,

  207. but a spiritual structure that will

  208. impact generations to come.

  209. >> For me, it's not what the building's

  210. going to cost.

  211. It's what it will cost this community if

  212. we don't build it.

  213. So, we have an opportunity to lay a

  214. foundation for our children, for our

  215. children's children, and beyond. And how

  216. many know that that's biblical?

  217. That's biblical.

  218. Deliverance, freedom, more marriages

  219. restored, more households saved,

  220. forever changed by the power of Christ.

  221. That's the why. So, I think it's behind

  222. me. Look at this. This is our theme. One

  223. summit every generation.

  224. >> One summit every gener. Could we just

  225. say that together? You guys ready? One

  226. summit every generation. That's the why

  227. behind

  228. the what.

  229. So, uh I want to introduce uh our

  230. campaign chair. Um she's been amazing at

  231. this point and uh we wouldn't be

  232. standing here today and kickoff Sunday

  233. without her. Uh our campaign chair,

  234. let's celebrate Miss Loretta as she

  235. comes.

  236. [Applause]

  237. >> Good morning. Thank you guys. Uh, I'm

  238. just honored and very humbled to be able

  239. to serve you guys in this capacity. So,

  240. thank you for that. Um, I'm excited to

  241. watch God grow us. Are you guys excited?

  242. >> All right. Me, too. Me, too. Well,

  243. without further ado, we have an amazing

  244. team that God has put together, and we

  245. would like to introduce them uh right

  246. now. Okay. All right. First up, we have

  247. our spiritual emphasis team, and we've

  248. got two leaders. This team is carrying

  249. us through prayer. This team is also

  250. going to carry you guys through prayer.

  251. So, we've got a lot of activity that's

  252. going to happen through these teams. And

  253. so, if I can get Pastor Dan and um I'm

  254. blanking right now. I'm like, "Oh,

  255. Pastor Dan and John Gross. Come on up."

  256. I was see

  257. >> There we go. Come on up, guys.

  258. >> The two most spiritual guys in the

  259. church leading the way. I was looking

  260. back there and I was like, where did he

  261. go? So, he moved on me. Okay, awesome.

  262. And next up, we have our creative

  263. graphic genius of communications. Uh,

  264. you see the wonderful logo that she has

  265. created.

  266. >> They do. They do. She does.

  267. >> Miss Whitney Best, she's heading up our

  268. communications team. Come on up,

  269. Whitney.

  270. [Applause]

  271. >> Awesome.

  272. >> And hey, guys, be careful. She's the

  273. referee for this whole thing. She's

  274. going to blow the whistle. is. I heard

  275. she was ready to throw some flags, so

  276. look out. So, next up, we need somebody

  277. to keep us on point. We need reminders.

  278. We need help with arrangements. And no

  279. one better to do that than Miss Barb.

  280. Come on up, Barb. Woohoo.

  281. >> Yes, she's going to be heading up our

  282. arrangements and reminders team. So,

  283. thank you for for that, Barb. All right.

  284. Next on our list, we have got an

  285. advanced challenge team. This team is

  286. going to challenge us and challenge you

  287. because we truly want to live for

  288. Christ. We want to live sacrificially.

  289. And so, they're going to help us be

  290. challenged to do that. So, this team

  291. consists of Mr. Carrie Gerber back here

  292. on the camera. Everybody give him a

  293. shout out. And our very own Ethan Best.

  294. Come on up, Ethan. All right.

  295. Wonderful.

  296. >> I'm I'm thankful that Carrie's on the

  297. team. We don't put Ethan in charge of

  298. things, do we?

  299. >> Ethan gets to be in charge of this. He's

  300. very motivational. So, we're very

  301. thankful for that. All right. And then

  302. we have our last team. Uh, this

  303. gentleman could not be here. One of

  304. them's here, one's not. So, we have

  305. Chris and Kenny Hannah. Come on up. Hey,

  306. Kenny.

  307. Woo. This team is going to be

  308. responsible

  309. for our uh presentations and creativity.

  310. So, they're going to help us expand

  311. outside the box and get very creative in

  312. our ways of giving and things. So, we

  313. are very thankful for this team. And

  314. guys, we would we would love to give

  315. them a big round of applause if we can.

  316. Thank you. Yeah.

  317. Awesome.

  318. And then uh if we can have Pastor Ben to

  319. pray over this team.

  320. >> Pray.

  321. >> Yeah. If you if that's okay.

  322. >> I think I know how to do that.

  323. >> I think you can do that one. You do that

  324. very well.

  325. >> But can I get some help with it?

  326. >> Absolutely.

  327. >> Cuz you guys you guys know how to pray,

  328. right?

  329. >> Yeah. Yeah.

  330. >> It's that thing where you talk to God.

  331. >> There we go.

  332. >> Yeah. Can Listen, you guys, these are

  333. the team captains, right? They're going

  334. to be navigating. And And I got to say

  335. this, uh if it wasn't for them, we would

  336. not be doing a capital campaign. If it

  337. was all on me, man, this thing would

  338. have crashed and burned. So, I I'm

  339. excited that we have a team wrapped

  340. around this this initiative and and what

  341. fulfilling what God's doing. So, could

  342. we extend a hand this way and pray over

  343. our team captains?

  344. >> Father, we thank you, Lord, for those

  345. that have accepted the call. Father,

  346. those that you've called for such a time

  347. as this, Lord, those that you've raised

  348. up and established, Father, we thank you

  349. for the gifts and abilities and the

  350. calling upon each of their lives. And

  351. Lord, in this season, Lord, I pray a

  352. blessing and a strength and a grace over

  353. their life and over their ministry.

  354. Father, that they would lead us well.

  355. >> Yes.

  356. >> Lord, we thank you for the impact they

  357. have in the kingdom of God.

  358. >> And so, Lord, we pray, Father, that we

  359. would be solidified, unified as a team.

  360. Lord, that we would be a group of people

  361. that would be easy to lead.

  362. >> Yes, God. And so, Father, we commission

  363. them today to lead this initiative in

  364. Jesus name.

  365. >> Amen.

  366. >> Praise the Lord.

  367. >> Amen. All right. Thank you guys.

  368. Everybody give them one last round of

  369. applause. Thank you. Thank you.

  370. All right. And so with this team, uh you

  371. guys are going to see these people

  372. around a lot. Uh a lot of you guys are

  373. going to be involved on some of these

  374. teams um because we need members, we

  375. need help. And so, uh, be on the lookout

  376. for that. So, are you guys excited for

  377. what God's doing?

  378. >> Yeah, me too. I'm very excited about

  379. this capital campaign. Uh, we have had

  380. um a lot of input from you guys and

  381. we're very excited to know that yes,

  382. there is a need for this capital

  383. campaign. Um, I get to discuss the goals

  384. and the values of the campaign with you

  385. guys today. So, I'm very excited to see

  386. that God has just really put a vision on

  387. all of the leaders, the staff, on Pastor

  388. Ben. Um, and this vision goes right with

  389. everything that God's doing here at

  390. Grace Summit. So, the campaign is going

  391. to be focused on uh two goals, financial

  392. and non-financial. And with that, we are

  393. going to be very transparent. We are a

  394. transparent church. Um, God's got this,

  395. not us. like we we're kind of fumbling

  396. along like, "Okay, God, we're just going

  397. to be prayed up and stay with what the

  398. Holy Spirit gives us, right?"

  399. >> All right. Thank you. So, with this um

  400. our vision is going to continue to be

  401. bringing people together to serve uh in

  402. the way that Jesus has taught us. And

  403. we're going to do that through our

  404. mission by um be bringing the lifegiving

  405. message um that Jesus has put on us

  406. through the Holy Spirit um so that each

  407. of us can live fully devoted lives um in

  408. Jesus Christ and everything because

  409. that's very important and that's what

  410. this campaign is about is truly digging

  411. deeper and living for Jesus. So with

  412. that we know you can see some elbow room

  413. here. We are tight. Um our kids are

  414. tight. our kids, our legacy. We need

  415. room. And so with that, we are going to

  416. be doing um a lot of different asking

  417. over the next several months. And I'm

  418. excited about that. Are you guys excited

  419. about that? Yeah. I don't even know what

  420. God's going to put on me yet. Like I've

  421. been praying and I'm like, God, what are

  422. you putting on me? And so I'm just

  423. seeking and all I know right now is I

  424. have a lot of excitement. Um, and so I

  425. ask that you guys would join us on this

  426. journey for the Capitol campaign to

  427. raise the 2.1 million that God has put

  428. on us. Are you guys ready for that?

  429. >> Yeah. Me too. Me too. Pastor Ben, are

  430. you ready for that?

  431. >> I am. You know what I You know what I

  432. like about it, Loretta? I'm going to

  433. jump in.

  434. >> What do you like? Jump in. Do you

  435. >> You know what I like about it? Because

  436. the word the M word makes me

  437. uncomfortable. Millions. And we're like,

  438. we're we're going for two of them.

  439. >> We're going for two. 2.1 of them. 2.1 of

  440. them. Yes.

  441. >> And uh you know, if it was like

  442. attainable, like, hey, we could just

  443. take up a a love offering today and it

  444. was it was a reachable number, you know,

  445. uh few thousand, we could we could we

  446. could take it up, you know. But here's

  447. the thing. In my walk with God,

  448. >> um I'm a lot of times God brings me to

  449. this place that I look at it and I go,

  450. that is absolutely unrealistic.

  451. >> Absolutely.

  452. >> Absolutely unrealistic. And God says,

  453. where you're weak, I'm strong. Amen.

  454. >> And God says that he's going to do the

  455. impossible. God's going to do the

  456. miraculous. And so I look at this and I

  457. go, "Hey God, whatever you're up to,

  458. man, I'm in."

  459. >> Absolutely. Yeah. We serve a big God. He

  460. does big things. Uh he does the

  461. immeasurable for us. And so here's some

  462. of the things that we're also going to

  463. ask God to do in us. Okay? We're going

  464. to ask him to grow us stronger in our

  465. faith. We're going to ask him to help us

  466. to live in purpose.

  467. We want him to build us stronger

  468. together to be unified and we also want

  469. to trust in his vision as he's given us

  470. thus far. We want to trust in his vision

  471. and share Jesus with other people. It's

  472. a lot of asking, right?

  473. >> Is it a lot of asking? But that excites

  474. me because that's going to take

  475. sacrificial living. And I am so excited

  476. to live sacrificially for Christ. Aren't

  477. you? All right. Give me a big shout if

  478. you're ready. Woo! All right. All right.

  479. So, we want to to live sacrificially and

  480. in order to do that, we have an amazing

  481. opportunity to leave a legacy. As you

  482. continue to hear, we are one summit

  483. every generation. So, I'm just really

  484. excited to see how God is going to grow

  485. us, how he's going to grow me, what he's

  486. going to do here at at Grace Summit

  487. Church. So, I am just ready for some

  488. next steps from Pastor Ben to see how we

  489. are going to do this with all the teams

  490. and seeking God's lead. Are you guys

  491. ready?

  492. >> All right. All right. There we go. Let's

  493. give it up for Pastor Ben to take some

  494. next steps.

  495. >> All right. Hey, next steps. So, uh uh

  496. before we get into that, man, I'm coach,

  497. right?

  498. >> Yep.

  499. >> That's uh that's what they tell me I am.

  500. Anyways, uh do you guys know that we

  501. have an assistant coach on the field?

  502. Can we celebrate Pastor Jessica? She

  503. actually has

  504. the MS coach.

  505. Look at that.

  506. And uh I just got to say she's the most

  507. beautiful

  508. >> uh Mrs. Coach I've ever seen in my life.

  509. >> She's pretty fabulous. Um I want to

  510. share next steps. And this is uh kind of

  511. what we would call uh the game plan. uh

  512. calling the plays and uh those of you

  513. that appreciate uh football um you know

  514. that a lot of times when they're sharing

  515. the the plays, you ever see them over

  516. there and they're and they're doing this

  517. and they're and they're covering it

  518. because uh they don't want us the team

  519. to be able to read their lips and see

  520. what's being said, right? Uh so I'm not

  521. going to continue to speak like this,

  522. but that's what's going on, right?

  523. Because uh man, here's where I'm at. Uh

  524. when God's in on it, uh it just it's

  525. victory all the way. And so the devil

  526. can hear all he wants, but we're going

  527. to kick the devil's butt.

  528. [Applause]

  529. >> 15 of you are going to kick the devil's

  530. butt. My goodness. All right. Hey,

  531. what's next? Where do we go from here?

  532. Uh what we're not doing is uh taking up

  533. a big offering today and and asking you

  534. to give give money today. Uh we're not

  535. going to do the old school method that

  536. some of our pastors did of have the

  537. ushers stand at the door and block them

  538. until we get to a certain amount. Uh my

  539. pastor used to stand up and say, "I have

  540. a number in my mind and we're going to

  541. get there." And we just keep taking

  542. offerings until we get to that number.

  543. And I'm like, "This is uncomfortable.

  544. We've already given I didn't only brow

  545. so much cash, pastor. Sheesh." Uh we're

  546. not doing that today. Uh this is

  547. kickoff. Okay. And so what it's going to

  548. look like, man, is uh we are going to

  549. season this that we already have, but

  550. we're going to continue to season this

  551. initiative with prayer. Uh we have

  552. prayer Sunday coming down the line. And

  553. uh have you guys gotten these yet?

  554. >> Not yet. Ushers are going to hand these

  555. out to you. And this has just some

  556. special dates on it. Uh some different

  557. information. You can take that and put

  558. it on your refrigerator, put it on the

  559. dashboard of your car. Uh but prayer

  560. Sunday and some coming Sundays. Our

  561. spiritual emphasis team is going to be

  562. leading us with some uh powerful

  563. devotions. Uh they're going to be

  564. challenging us with prayer and fasting

  565. opportunities. And some of you might be

  566. uh sitting in here going, "Man, I just,

  567. you know, I know my finances and I don't

  568. have money to give, but all of us can

  569. pray, right?" And so, uh we're going to

  570. pray into this. Our kids ministry, our

  571. connection groups are going to be doing

  572. the same thing. Uh prayer and fasting

  573. will cover this campaign.

  574. And then we're going to be having

  575. challenge Sunday.

  576. And it's going to be a challenge

  577. to us. In other words, a charge for us

  578. to really receive or listen to what God

  579. is speaking to us. And so, we start out

  580. pursuing God. We start out chasing God

  581. and saying, "God, h how would you have

  582. me to participate in this?" And uh we're

  583. not going to ask uh you for money, but

  584. we are going to ask you to seek God and

  585. say, "God, what would you have me to do?

  586. And so then we'll get to challenge

  587. Sunday where that's where we respond to

  588. what God's been ministering to us to

  589. live sacrificially. Uh we'll be given

  590. different opportunities to participate.

  591. Uh behind that we'll have commitment

  592. Sunday and that's the opportunity for us

  593. to take a step of faith uh to follow

  594. through and do what God has challenged

  595. us to do now and over the next several

  596. years. Uh really three years is what

  597. we're looking at kind of responding to

  598. God with. And then to wrap this whole

  599. thing up, we're going to have

  600. celebration Sunday.

  601. I like celebration Sunday that we get to

  602. celebrate all that God's doing. And man,

  603. we didn't talk about this or put it in

  604. the plans, but Loretta, can we have

  605. cake?

  606. >> Absolutely.

  607. >> For you guys want cake for celebration

  608. Sunday?

  609. >> Cuz cake in church, man, that's just a

  610. good thing, right?

  611. So

  612. sacrificial living to leave a legacy and

  613. it's one summit every generation. Our

  614. theme verse in Psalms 127, unless the

  615. Lord builds the house, we build it in

  616. vain. And so we're seeking God. So I

  617. want to ask Pastor Larry to come. He's

  618. going to pray and bless this initiative.

  619. And uh can we celebrate Pastor Larry as

  620. he comes?

  621. [Applause]

  622. It is so exciting. When we found this

  623. building,

  624. we realized when we moved in, it was too

  625. small.

  626. And there's 10 acres off to the east

  627. that we have first option if he ever

  628. decides to sell. And even back then, I

  629. felt the Holy Spirit speak and say, "One

  630. day that piece of property is going to

  631. be yours." So, this is just one phase

  632. of moving toward what God wants to do in

  633. the city of Fort Wayne, Indiana.

  634. Let's pray. Father, there is an

  635. excitement in our hearts because we're

  636. partnering with you.

  637. You who own the cattle in a thousand

  638. hills. You who created the gold and

  639. silver and all the precious gems.

  640. You don't need the finances. you created

  641. them.

  642. And I pray for prosperity upon your

  643. people

  644. that they may prosper the kingdom.

  645. I pray prosperity of heart that they

  646. would hear from you.

  647. Lord God, the end result is to see men

  648. and women who are right now without hope

  649. come to a saving knowledge of who you

  650. are.

  651. And as a result, Lord God, more praise,

  652. more worship is going to go ascend to

  653. heaven.

  654. So we ask this

  655. in the name that is ascribed above every

  656. name, the name of Jesus, our Christ, our

  657. Messiah, our Lord, our King. Amen. And

  658. amen. Praise the Lord. Now, we're ready

  659. for the word of God. Are you ready for

  660. the word?

  661. >> Amen. Pastor Benjamin Leu is going to

  662. bring us a good word.

  663. [Applause]

  664. >> I'm back again.

  665. >> Hey, it's just me.

  666. >> I just follow the order of service. Hey,

  667. it's kickoff Sunday, guys.

  668. >> And uh man, I know we've taken some time

  669. and and I don't feel like we'd be having

  670. church if we didn't get into the word of

  671. God. You guys excited to get in the word

  672. of God?

  673. >> Amen. So, hey, uh we're about to step

  674. into something uh new and powerful and

  675. and at that transition, uh Pastor Larry

  676. a couple of years ago handed me the

  677. playbook and uh man, we're we're about

  678. to uh get on the field and run some

  679. plays. And so, uh for the next few

  680. weeks, we're not just attending church,

  681. but we are becoming a team and learning

  682. the playbook and getting off the

  683. sidelines and into purpose. Uh really,

  684. the specific purpose that God has for

  685. each one of us. And uh some years ago

  686. uh my wife and I uh were called to plant

  687. a church and that scared the living

  688. daylights out of me uh because I had

  689. never planted a church and had no idea

  690. what I was doing. And so in that season,

  691. man, I was really uh digging in and

  692. praying and and and intentional about

  693. hearing from God. And God gave me a

  694. scripture and I'm going to share it with

  695. you today. Before we do, let's pray.

  696. Father, we thank you Lord for the

  697. anointing upon your word. Lord, we thank

  698. you God for blessing us,

  699. giving us the freedom to hear your word.

  700. And so, Lord, I pray that you

  701. communicate with us in this time in

  702. Jesus name. Amen.

  703. Acts chapter 2 and verse 42. And uh I

    Acts 2 chapter mention

  704. know that you can't see my eyes. Matter

  705. of fact, our production team told me I

  706. should take off the hat when I preach.

  707. Do you guys know this is the first time

  708. I've ever preached in a hat?

  709. >> My pastor, I guarantee like he would

  710. have he would have had me out in the

  711. hallway.

  712. Yeah. Preaching in a hat. Uh so anyways,

  713. I do have eyeballs,

  714. but for today, you're not going to see

  715. them real good. Acts chapter 2:42

  716. the early church said this talking about

  717. them it says and they devoted themselves

  718. say devoted

  719. >> they devoted themselves to the apostles

  720. teaching and the fellowship

  721. to the breaking of bread and the prayers

  722. and awe came upon every soul and many

  723. wonders and signs were being done

  724. through the apostles

  725. and all who believed were together and

  726. had all things in common.

  727. Verse 45, and they were selling their

  728. possessions and belongings, and

  729. distributing the proceeds to all

  730. as any had need. And day by day,

  731. attending the temple together, and

  732. breaking bread in their homes, they

  733. received their food with glad and

  734. generous hearts, praising God, and

  735. having favor with all the people. And

  736. the Lord added to their number day by

  737. day those who were being saved.

  738. The Lord added day by day those who were

  739. being saved. It sounds very similar to

  740. the church that we're in today.

  741. There are devoted people devoted to uh

  742. the word of God, devoting to the

  743. fellowship,

  744. all these connection groups and meeting

  745. together, to the breaking of bread,

  746. devoted to prayer,

  747. giving sacrificially. Sell these early

  748. church, man. They sold everything they

  749. had and gave to each one as they saw

  750. need in the individuals.

  751. That's the call upon the church of Jesus

  752. Christ. And catch this. Day by day,

  753. there were those that were being added

  754. of who was being saved.

  755. And just sticking around here for a

  756. little bit, uh there's day by day new

  757. faces coming. They give their life to

  758. Christ. And and I love it because uh I

  759. love watching the work of God. And I I

  760. my hope is that I can share some

  761. scripture with us today that'll pour a

  762. little fuel on the fire for what God has

  763. for us the next few months. And I know

  764. uh some of you uh the word capital

  765. campaign uh can bring a mix of emotions,

  766. excitement, anticipation

  767. uh but also maybe some anxiety.

  768. It can sound like just simply a

  769. financial initiative.

  770. But I got to share with you, it's so

  771. much more than that. It's so much more

  772. than that. What it is is an opportunity

  773. for us as a body of believers to get off

  774. the bench and get in the game.

  775. To really find purpose. It's not about

  776. funds. It's about faith.

  777. It's not about building a building. It's

  778. about souls. It's not about reaching a

  779. goal. It's about God's glory. Look at

  780. your neighbor and say, "Get in the

  781. game."

  782. You know, it's discouraging. I'm I'm a

  783. numbers guy. I'm a stats guy. And uh

  784. I've seen this. I've lived this in

  785. church world. But the stats say this

  786. that about 20% of the people do 80% of

  787. the work. And that in the American

  788. church system is a healthy church.

  789. The realistic side is that most pastors

  790. uh talk about 10% of the people doing

  791. 90% of the work.

  792. >> Look at your neighbor and say, "That's

  793. sad.

  794. It's interesting because that's not

  795. Grace Summit Church and never has been

  796. because we have a high amount of people

  797. that have caught the vision that serve

  798. every week that serve in different ways

  799. in different capacities. And man, that

  800. the old church model from that

  801. shephering movement was the one pastor

  802. at everything.

  803. >> And the church would kind of hit a

  804. ceiling and could only get so far.

  805. And one of the reasons that we're

  806. experiencing

  807. spiritual growth and numerical growth is

  808. because you've been getting in the game.

  809. Church is not a spectator sport.

  810. Can I just say this? In the culture that

  811. we live in, church is not a concert.

  812. Church is not a motivational speech. Oh,

  813. I just feel so good. He just he just

  814. really he just stirs me up and I feel

  815. better when I

  816. I I hope that you're hearing from God. I

  817. don't care if you come and hear me. I

  818. hope that you come and hear God.

  819. >> Not a concert, not a motivational

  820. speech. This is one body with many

  821. parts, all participating for the

  822. building of the kingdom of God.

  823. Day by day,

  824. souls added to the church.

  825. I believe this. Before we can run the

  826. play, we have to understand the game.

  827. So, if you have your Bibles, and I hope

  828. you do, and I know we've gone long. I'm

  829. not going to preach too long. Is that

  830. okay? I just heard some bellies grumble

  831. like, "Get me to the restaurant,

  832. pastor."

  833. If you have your Bibles, open them up to

  834. Ephesians. And we're going to set the

  835. foundation for what's to come. Most of

  836. us understand the concept of the bench.

  837. Man, in sports, that's the place where

  838. you sit when you're not in the game.

  839. It's the bench.

  840. It's for substitutes. It's for the

  841. backups, for the ones resting, the ones

  842. that the coach hasn't called on yet. Uh

  843. when I was in middle school, I I loved I

  844. played sports all through school and

  845. loved sports. Here was my issue, and I

  846. don't blame my mom, except for it was my

  847. mom's fault. She started me in school

  848. really young. I was a year younger than

  849. almost everyone in my grade. And uh

  850. there was a season uh where uh I won't

  851. say the word, but chemicals in the human

  852. body start to change. And I remember

  853. this uh one summer coming back to school

  854. and I'm like all of my friends are like

  855. and I'm like what what happened?

  856. I that didn't keep up over the summer.

  857. And uh I remember riding the bench even

  858. though I was fast, strong, man. And I

  859. remember uh uh that feeling of just

  860. sitting there going, "Man, this is lame

  861. and boring." And I had a whole lot more

  862. fun last year when we were all the same

  863. size and I was able to get out on the

  864. field or get out on the court.

  865. The bench is boring.

  866. Look at your neighbor and say, "Get in

  867. the game."

  868. >> The bench is where you sit when you're

  869. not in the game.

  870. We

  871. benchwarmers show up to the game. We

  872. wear the colors. We cheer when something

  873. good happens. We know all the stats and

  874. all the plays. And in America, in the

  875. church, we have a lot of super fans for

  876. Jesus, but we're lacking of players.

  877. >> Amen.

  878. >> I mean, we live in a culture. It's this

  879. is the most bizarre Christian culture.

  880. We We have t-shirts for Jesus. We have

  881. bumper stickers and hats and and we have

  882. uh weird pastors that wear coach shirts

  883. on on the platform. I mean, this is just

  884. a bizarre season of Christianity where

  885. we have really an opportunity to become

  886. super fans and not players.

  887. In the early church, you didn't have a

  888. choice. You show up, you're in the game,

  889. right?

  890. And it's not uh well, so and so's sick.

  891. pastor, could you pray for them?

  892. That's our church culture. Do you know

  893. that you have the power of Christ living

  894. on the inside of you? That you can get

  895. the same feeling I get, man. My hands

  896. get feeling like Holy Ghost jumper

  897. cables, man. And I got to I got to lay

  898. my hands on somebody. There's going to

  899. be an impartation of grace. And man, I'm

  900. going to start praying down for my sha

  901. na na. And we're going to we're going to

  902. have some church and we're going to

  903. we're going to see some people get free

  904. and get some power and get some healing

  905. and get some deliverance. That's not

  906. just for the pastor. That's for you

  907. because you're in the game.

  908. >> You're on the field. You're running the

  909. plays.

  910. My start, man. Do be a victory lap. Hey,

  911. >> glory to God.

  912. Not a spectator sport. And and I want to

  913. share this wherever wherever you're at

  914. in Christianity. Don't settle for the

  915. sidelines of Christianity.

  916. Get in the game. Pray it through. Say,

  917. "God, how how would you use me?

  918. What should I do? Where should I go?

  919. Have a heart that cries out to God. Put

  920. me in, coach.

  921. Don't settle for ringside seats.

  922. And I just believe this. God today is

  923. blowing the whistle, calling your

  924. number, getting you off the bench, and

  925. saying, "Okay,

  926. okay,

  927. you've you've you've read the playbook.

  928. Okay, you've learned. So, now it's time

  929. to get in the game." Look at your

  930. neighbor. Say, get in the game.

  931. >> Ephesians chapter 2 and verse 8,

    Ephesians 2 chapter mention

  932. famous scripture. It says, "For it is by

  933. grace that you have been saved through

  934. faith. And this, not from yourselves. It

  935. is the gift of God, not by works, so

  936. that no one can boast."

  937. Man, we love to quote this scripture. We

  938. might have this one on a t-shirt or a

  939. bumper sticker. My goodness, I love it,

  940. man. We didn't earn it. uh we don't

  941. boast about it. It's all grace. It's all

  942. grace. And too often we stop there in

  943. the scripture and treat salvation like

  944. it's the finish line, like we've got our

  945. ticket to heaven and now we can just sit

  946. in the pew and and wait till God calls

  947. us home, brother. Homesick for heaven.

  948. That's not the vision. Let's continue to

  949. read here. Verse 10 says this, "For we

  950. are God's handiwork

  951. created in Christ Jesus." Catch this. To

  952. do good works.

  953. To do good works.

  954. To do good works. We're not saved by

  955. works, but we're saved to do good works.

  956. >> We're saved by grace that God could do

  957. something through us.

  958. To do good works, which God prepared in

  959. advance

  960. for us to do. We're not just saved from

  961. something.

  962. We're saved for something. Man,

  963. Wednesday night, you guys, we we kicked

  964. off uh bold advance. We're doing both uh

  965. youth group uh here in the sanctuary.

  966. Many of youth is knocking out of the

  967. park with youthled worship team. And

  968. man, I love the excitement that that

  969. God's doing in our in our uh middle

  970. school and high school age. And and in

  971. the back, man, we had some refreshments

  972. and hung out. And we got in we one of

  973. the things that we were talking about

  974. Wednesday. Can I just say this, man? It

  975. was powerful. At the end, we were able

  976. to pray for different ones. One person

  977. said this. Uh we prayed that they were

  978. experiencing physical pain in their

  979. body, debilitating pain. And we just got

  980. around and laid hands and prayed and uh

  981. the meeting ended and afterwards we're

  982. standing in the hallway and that

  983. individual said, "It's amazing. I feel

  984. no pain in my body right now."

  985. >> Can we just give God glory for that?

  986. He's raising his hand.

  987. [Applause]

  988. God is on the throne. God is alive and

  989. well. God is doing things. But in this

  990. Wednesday night meeting, we were talking

  991. about uh repentance and God kind of

  992. looking at some definitions and one of

  993. them was changing allegiance.

  994. It's changing from one team to another

  995. team. Switching teams. We do this in

  996. salvation, don't we? We we we switch

  997. teams and we go uh from the kingdom of

  998. darkness into the kingdom of God. We

  999. switch teams. That's repentance. We've

  1000. we've we've switched things over. But

  1001. it's also

1002. switching teams from the kingdom of self

1003. to the kingdom of God.

1004. Not just the kingdom of darkness, but

1005. it's also the kingdom of self. Here's

1006. what God does with me. My spending

  1007. oftentimes tells the story

  1008. telling of myself

  1009. a little bit.

1010. My spending a lot of times tells the

1011. story of where my heart is, what I'm

1012. willing to invest in. You know, it's

1013. comical to me and not comical in a funny

1014. way, but comical in a sad way of the

1015. culture uh that we live in. We have a

1016. tendency culturally to invest thousands

  1017. in temporary distractions, temporary

1018. escapes, but complain about any

  1019. investment in eternal things.

1020. >> We don't budget ourselves for things

1021. that are eternal. We live in a culture

1022. that will easily spend $60,000 on a

  1023. vehicle, $400,000 on a home, $20,000 on

1024. vacations, and then spend $3 to $500 on

  1025. a ticket to go to a concert or a or a

  1026. ball game,

1027. and then complain when the church has a

  1028. fundraiser.

1029. Have you ever done it?

  1030. They want more money.

1031. I gave them 20 bucks last week.

1032. Yeah. Concert tickets. What happened to

1033. those things? Remember it used to be

  1034. like 50 bucks, 60 bucks.

  1035. Dan's old. Pastor Dan's old. He says 20.

1036. Was that back in the 60s?

1037. I like picking on you.

1038. >> Our spending oftentimes can reveal

1039. what's in our heart. Selfishness will

1040. fund personal distractions but criticize

  1041. eternal investments.

1042. We'll spend our resources on things that

  1043. will rust and break

1044. that one day will end up in the in the

  1045. dump.

1046. and will criticize investing in souls.

1047. We'll criticize investing in future

1048. generations. Have you been there?

1049. We budget for everything but eternity.

1050. So when we got saved, we got drafted

1051. into the army of God. We're on team

  1052. Jesus.

  1053. He saw your potential.

1054. Even though we didn't have a whole lot

1055. to offer him, he saw something in us.

1056. And he paid the ultimate price for you.

1057. Do you know that when you got saved, he

1058. put his name on your jersey?

  1059. You're on team Jesus.

1060. And when I wear the the jersey, I want

1061. to I want to do good for his name.

1062. I want people to to see that that Jesus

1063. on my jersey. And that's just coming out

1064. of my heart and coming out of my life.

1065. Man, I want people to see that and know,

  1066. man, that that that he's he's

  1067. representing well.

  1068. You're on the team. 1 Corinthians

    1 Corinthians 9 chapter mention

1069. chapter 9 and verse 24. Do you not know

1070. that in a race all the runners run, but

1071. only one gets the prize. Run in such a

1072. way as to get the prize. Everyone who

1073. competes in the games goes into strict

  1074. training. Say strict training.

1075. They do it to get a crown

  1076. that will not last.

1077. But we do it to get a crown that will

  1078. last forever.

  1079. Therefore,

1080. I do not run like someone running

  1081. aimlessly.

1082. I do not fight like a boxer beating the

1083. air. No, I strike a blow to my body and

1084. make it my slave so that after I have

1085. preached to others, I myself

1086. will not be disqualified for the prize.

1087. We're on the team. And it's not just

1088. repenting from the kingdom of darkness.

1089. The scriptur is pulling it out. It's

1090. repenting from self. He says, "I bring

1091. my body under subjection. I beat

1092. myself." And man, yeah, I would like the

1093. new truck. Yeah, I'd like to have a

1094. speedboat. Yeah, I'd like to have some

1095. stuff. But you know what? I got to

1096. budget for eternity as well because that

  1097. stuff will pass away.

1098. I got to bring myself under subjection.

  1099. Another scripture,

1100. Hebrews 12 and verse one.

1101. Therefore, since we are surrounded by

1102. such a great cloud of witnesses, let us

1103. throw off everything that hinders and

1104. the sin that so easily entangles.

1105. And let us run with perseverance the

1106. race marked out for us, fixing our eyes

1107. on Jesus, the pioneer and the perfector

  1108. of faith.

1109. For the joy that was set before him, he

1110. endured the cross, scorning its shame,

1111. and sat down at the right hand of the

  1112. throne of God.

1113. Time to get off the bench and get in the

  1114. game.

1115. You'll never know the thrill of the game

1116. from the bench. You'll never feel the

1117. roar of the crowd, the sweat on your

  1118. brow,

1119. the excitement of executing the perfect

1120. play that scored the point.

1121. Unless we get in the game.

  1122. This is where I'm at. I'm vision. I'm a

1123. visual by nature. I'm visionary. And I

1124. can just visualize at the end of this

1125. thing. Next year at this time, we could

1126. be walking through a brand new foyer

1127. past a brand new kids worship center.

1128. And and I God brought me here. I was

1129. just praying. I was thinking about, man,

1130. well, what's the outcome here? And and I

1131. picture myself walking through and

1132. hearing 50 young people worshiping God

  1133. together.

  1134. Yes.

1135. >> 200 people can build a legacy that lasts

1136. for generations for the building of the

1137. kingdom. We have an opportunity

1138. to be a part of that. I personally want

1139. to get off the bench and I get it. The

  1140. bench is comfortable.

1141. It's safe. There's no risk sitting on

1142. the bench. I'm not going to fumble the

1143. ball and lose the game. All right.

1144. But hear me. There's no reward sitting

  1145. on the bench either.

1146. And I'll close with this.

1147. The prophet Isaiah in the Old Testament,

  1148. he had a vision.

1149. He saw God on the throne

  1150. high and lifted up

1151. and he hears the voice of God. And God

1152. isn't speaking to angels, but God is

  1153. speaking directly to Isaiah.

1154. He heard the voice of the Lord say,

1155. "Whom shall I send and who will go for

  1156. us?"

  1157. So Isaiah chapter 6,

    Isaiah 6 chapter mention

  1158. whom shall I send

1159. and who will go for us? At that moment,

1160. Isaiah had a choice to make.

  1161. He could have

1162. said, "Man, I'm not qualified.

1163. I'm just going to stay on the bench."

1164. God God's God's giving this call. Who

1165. who in the world? All these people, who

1166. shall I send? Who will go for us? And

1167. Isaiah had a choice to make. He could

  1168. have said, "I'm unqualified. I'm a man

  1169. of unclean lips. I I don't think I'm up

1170. for it. It's it seems risky. I mean,

1171. that's a lot of responsibility, God, and

1172. so I don't want to be the guy that

1173. messes this thing up." He He says God

1174. says, "Who will go for us?" In other

1175. words, who's going to get in the game?

1176. And you know what Isaiah said?

1177. He said, "Here I am. Send me.

1178. Here I am. Send me." He had that heart

1179. to say, "Put me in, coach.

  1180. Put me in, coach.

1181. God, I see the need. I feel the nudge.

  1182. And I'm available.

  1183. [Music]

  1184. Here I am, Lord.

  1185. send me. The Bible

1186. wasn't just given to us to increase our

  1187. knowledge.

1188. The Bible was given to us to direct our

  1189. mission.

  1190. It's the playbook.

  1191. [Music]

1192. Paul told Timothy this and

1193. he said all scripture is God breathed

1194. and is useful for teaching,

  1195. rebuking, correcting,

1196. training in righteousness. Catch this.

1197. So that the servant of God may be

1198. thoroughly equipped for every good work.

  1199. I believe that you're thoroughly

1200. equipped for every good work. You

1201. believe that? You're thoroughly equipped

1202. for every good work. I was the least

1203. likely to go to church, let alone be a

  1204. preacher.

1205. The least likely. Pastor Dan and I were

1206. getting a joke. We were talking about

1207. our GPA in high school.

1208. Mine was like a 1.4, something like

  1209. that.

1210. Didn't didn't graduate. Had to go back

  1211. to some alternative schooling.

1212. Yeah, I was the least likely to be

1213. successful at anything. Class clown. I

1214. got voted that every year.

1215. Knew how to make the folks laugh.

1216. You might be sitting here going, "Man, I

1217. I just don't think I have much to offer.

1218. I don't even know what my giftings are.

1219. I don't even know what my what my

  1220. calling is."

  1221. God will show you.

  1222. God can't steer a parked car. It's time

1223. for us to get up and get moving and

1224. moving forward and and let God minister

1225. to you the direction that he would have

  1226. for you

1227. to pray in such a way as to say, "God,

1228. how can I get in the game?"

1229. The Bible trains us and equips us so

1230. that we're ready when the coach calls

  1231. our name.

1232. And I believe God is calling us today,

1233. not just as individuals, but as a body

  1234. of believers

1235. to move to the next step.

  1236. So church,

  1237. it's kickoff Sunday.

1238. The ball's in your hands.

1239. I'll say this. You're not alone on the

  1240. field.

1241. We have number one, a powerful body of

1242. believers. Number two, we have a

1243. powerful playbook that's lifegiving. And

1244. can I say this? You have a coach. I know

1245. that I've got it hanging right here, but

1246. we have a divine coach in heaven.

1247. Our father in heaven leading the way. Do

1248. you know that you have the same coach,

1249. divine coach through the power of the

1250. Holy Spirit living on the inside of you,

  1251. directing every step.

  1252. The bench is comfortable,

1253. but the bench is boring.

  1254. James chapter 1

    James 1:22

1255. verse 22 says, "Do not merely listen to

1256. the word and so deceive yourselves.

  1257. Do what it says.

  1258. Do what it says. I don't think God's

1259. looking for us as individuals to be star

  1260. players. Maybe that's you.

  1261. Maybe it's not. I think he's just asking

1262. us to take a step off the sidelines

1263. and get in the game.

1264. Maybe for you that means finally

1265. committing to a connection group as

  1266. we're kicking off.

1267. What is it? 27 groups.

1268. I bet there's one in there you would

  1269. enjoy.

  1270. Maybe it's getting connected.

1271. Maybe for you it's serving,

1272. greeting at the door, serving in kid

1273. ministry, blessing the next generation.

1274. Maybe it means for you starting to tithe

1275. faithfully for the first time and

1276. letting God bless you in that of help

  1277. fund his vision.

1278. I mean, maybe it means having a

1279. spiritual conversation with a coworker

1280. or family member that you've been

1281. putting off because of fear.

1282. Whatever that next step is,

1283. God's asking you to take that next step

1284. today to get off the sidelines and get

1285. into the game. Maybe you're in this

1286. house and you're hearing all this and

1287. the next step for you is salvation.

1288. Maybe you're in here and you're going,

1289. "I don't even know if I'm on the right

  1290. team.

  1291. I don't even know which jersey I've got

  1292. on.

1293. And maybe for you, taking that next step

1294. is getting alone with God and saying,

  1295. "God,

1296. I'm asking you to come into my life

  1297. and save my soul,

1298. to free my heart, free my mind." And

1299. I'll tell you from experience, God will

  1300. do it.

1301. Did you guys know that the sinner's

1302. prayer that we do is in in the Bible?

  1303. It's a fairly recent church practice,

1304. maybe a hundred years or so, where the

1305. pastor would lead you in a salvation

1306. prayer. Do you know that's not in the

1307. Bible? It's healthy. It's good. But if

1308. that's you and you're looking to take

1309. that step off the sidelines and get on

1310. the team, I want to encourage you to

1311. spend some time with God today

  1312. and pray.

  1313. [Music]

1314. I'm going to ask Pastor Dan and Miss

1315. Loretta to come up and they're going to

1316. help us close the service. I know we

1317. went a little longer today, but God's up

1318. to something. And as they're coming, I

1319. want to close with just a couple of

  1320. scriptures. Matthew chapter 9 verse 37.

    Matthew 9:37

1321. And then he Jesus said to the disciples,

  1322. "The harvest is plentiful,

1323. but the laborers are few. Therefore,

1324. pray earnestly to the Lord of the

1325. harvest to send out laborers into his

  1326. harvest."

  1327. In 1 Peter 4:10

    1 Peter 4:10

1328. says that each of you

1329. should use whatever gift you have

  1330. received

1331. to serve others as faithful stewards of

1332. God's grace in its various forms.

1333. Father, I thank you, Lord, that you

1334. didn't call us just to be a spectator,

1335. but God, you called us to serve you.

1336. Lord, I'm thankful for this nudge, for

1337. this push from heaven, God, to get in

1338. the game, God, to run these new plays.

  1339. Father, I'm thankful, Lord, for a

1340. spiritual initiative, God, that you've

1341. laid upon us as a body of believers to

1342. move forward. And Lord, I'm thankful

1343. for a season such as this, a season of

  1344. excitement. Lord, I'm thankful that I've

1345. caught the vision to see where you're

1346. taking us as a people. So Lord, I pray

1347. that you continue to bless this people,

1348. bless this church. We thank you Lord in

  1349. Jesus name. Amen.

  1350. [Music]
