  3. Heat. Heat.

  6. >> Well, praise the Lord.

  7. You guys feeling all right today?

  8. You know, I want to uh I'm going to

  9. preach the word to you today. Um before

  10. I do, I want to share just a couple of

  11. things. You know, the old church model

  12. uh the old mentality was that uh the

  13. pastor kind of did everything. You know,

  14. it was a one-man show really uh that he

  15. uh preached the word, did all the

  16. organizational admin of the church. Uh

  17. he was the counselor. Uh, a lot of them

  18. were even the bookkeeper, you know, I

  19. mean, like they did everything. And and

  20. the mentality in the church was, you

  21. know, I'm a lay person. I just attend

  22. here and if you need spiritual help,

  23. well, there's the pastor. Let me

  24. introduce you to the pastor. And what we

  25. learned is that that was a really uh

  26. challenging way to do church, right? And

  27. so thankful uh that uh you know, times

  28. have changed and and our our mentality

  29. has shifted because what we see in the

  30. scripture is a completely different

  31. model of church. The saying is this that

  32. 10% of the people do 90% of the work and

  33. if you've been part of that 10% you feel

  34. that right?

  35. Uh do you know that we have over 65% of

  36. this church serve in some capacity?

  37. >> And so I'm sharing all this to say man

  38. this is a team model. We talk about the

  39. dream team and I have the opportunity to

  40. coach. Man, we have lots of of of

  41. coaches over uh different uh kind of

  42. areas of ministry and and our heart is

  43. to get everybody uh connected and man,

  44. where where do I plug in? What what's my

  45. part in this family of God? How can I

  46. serve? I don't want to just be a

  47. an observer

  48. >> of Christian. I want to participate. I

  49. want I want to put me in put me in,

  50. coach. Right. And so, uh that also

  51. through this uh Capitol campaign is uh

  52. with all of our resources, man, we're

  53. praying into this thing, seeing what

  54. God's up to. And uh we talk about

  55. legacy, but uh I want to share this. Uh

  56. some of you, I'm sure, have seen it on

  57. social media. Uh but this week, our

  58. dear, precious uh Uncle Art at 104 years

  59. old passed on to be with the Lord.

  60. And uh what an amazing man of faith. And

  61. uh Pastor Larry was uh stopped by his

  62. house Tuesday. We've been trying to get

  63. a hold of him to do lunch with him.

  64. Whole staff, we're going to take him out

  65. again.

  66. and spent some time with him and unable

  67. to get in contact with him. But Pastor

  68. Larry stopped by Tuesday and uh found

  69. him uh non-responsive. And so he went to

  70. the hospital and and 24 hours later he

  71. was in hospice and uh kind of spent the

  72. week there and I was able to go and pray

  73. with him and spend some time and and uh

  74. still non-responsive of course. Uh but

  75. Friday uh had a really really heavy on

  76. my heart to get back down there and see

  77. him and I had a meeting in that area

  78. that was pretty long meeting. got done

  79. with that and uh shot over there to see

  80. him. And I was there less than 10

  81. minutes and Uncle Art uh took his last

  82. breath. And as I'm sitting there, right,

  83. I mean, he he ran a good race. He

  84. finished his course, right? As I'm

  85. sitting there and he breathes last and

  86. the nursing staff comes in and confirms

  87. the time. The atmosphere shifted in the

  88. room to know that he made it home.

  89. >> I mean, that's all we could think about

  90. talking about. He's up there with his

  91. wife, Elie. He's up there with Jesus,

  92. right? I mean, he he he passed through.

  93. He made it he made it home to the other

  94. side. And that's what it's all about.

  95. But let me tell you a little bit about

  96. legacy. And I never did confirm. And I

  97. said in first service, I don't know if

  98. I'm supposed to share this publicly and

  99. I did anyways. Uh I'm just going to

  100. share it. Uncle Art left his estate to

  101. Grace Summit Church.

  102. Tell me that's not legacy and amazing uh

  103. to know that uh that his 104 years later

  104. his legacy is going to live on in future

  105. generations

  106. here at this church. So uh service time

  107. we'll be having a service here uh to

  108. celebrate his life, celebrate his

  109. homegoing. We'll keep you up to date

  110. with those times. And uh Uncle Art

  111. doesn't have family. Where is family?

  112. Amen. And so, uh, when those times come

  113. out, man, if you feel to clear your

  114. schedule and and come celebrate a

  115. homegoing

  116. with us. Okay.

  117. Now, I'm going to try to preach

  118. that. Okay?

  119. >> All right. Let's pray. Father, we thank

  120. you, Lord, for your Holy Spirit. Father,

  121. I thank you for life and for freedom and

  122. for power. I thank you for this moment

  123. in time, God, where all other things

  124. stop and our spirit hears from heaven.

  125. Father, I thank you, Lord, for the will

  126. of heaven being performed in this

  127. atmosphere. God, that you speak to

  128. hearts and minds. Father, those that

  129. walked in with hurts and bondages and

  130. whatever it is, Father, I pray for

  131. freedom

  132. >> to reign in this atmosphere, God. the

  133. Lord that when we leave this place,

  134. we'll know that you have spoke to us and

  135. touched us and changed us. And Father,

  136. we celebrate your presence in this

  137. moment in Jesus name. Amen.

  138. We're kicking off a new series today

  139. called Heaven Came Down. Uh if you're

  140. new uh today, uh you picked a good

  141. Sunday to come. Kicking off a new

  142. Sunday. I want to say welcome to you and

  143. uh our our culture at Grace Summit

  144. Church is to interact a little bit

  145. during worship and during the sermon. Um

  146. this is not a a quiet atmosphere. Uh

  147. this is an atmosphere to be family,

  148. right? And so we're sitting in God's

  149. living room and and kind of hanging out

  150. listening uh to heaven together. And so

  151. we're we're starting uh a new series and

  152. we're going to spend the next few weeks

  153. leading up to Christmas talking about

  154. Jesus. One of my favorite topics, right?

  155. and one of my favorite people. Uh we're

  156. going to talk about Jesus and kind of

  157. unpacking the reality of how scripture

  158. uh displays Jesus Christ, how God opened

  159. up the gates of heaven, how Jesus

  160. stepped down into bodily form and and

  161. was born in that little manger and lived

  162. his life and and we all know the story

  163. that he was crucified on the cross for

  164. you and I and kind of uh un unpack what

  165. that means for us. But today, I want you

  166. to catch the reality of heaven.

  167. >> Say reality.

  168. Oh, by the way, did you guys enjoy

  169. Thanksgiving?

  170. >> Did anyone in here eat too much?

  171. >> Okay, get up here to the altar and

  172. repent.

  173. Bunch of glutton in the room.

  174. Man, it's hard not to overeat, isn't it?

  175. It's like, man, that Chaz came over,

  176. brought all these amazing desserts and I

  177. like, man, take some more of that and

  178. more of that and more of that and then

  179. and then you sit for like 20 minutes and

  180. it's like, maybe I will have a piece of

  181. that pie.

  182. That's not a bad idea after all. Sheesh,

  183. hour later, I'm going back for fourths.

  184. Uh, you know, it's the time of year that

  185. we all get to kind of sit down. It's

  186. weird because, uh, it's the time that we

  187. sit down and and kind of think about

  188. thankfulness, you know, uh, and we live

  189. in a culture that's not usually at the

  190. forefront of our minds. Uh, anyone in

  191. here have the, uh, tradition where you

  192. go around the table and say what you're

  193. thankful for? Isn't that kind of fun?

  194. Uh, you know, it's just kind of a a

  195. season that we think about those things

  196. and and uh it's kind of our tradition

  197. here in America, uh, to focus on

  198. gratitude. And, uh, the interesting

  199. thing is that heaven has been thinking

  200. about and talking about gratitude. The

  201. Bible's been talking about gratitude

  202. longer than we've had American

  203. Thanksgiving, right? Longer than America

  204. was even America. And so Thanksgiving

  205. isn't just a holiday in the Bible. It's

  206. a doorway. Say doorway.

  207. >> My goodness. I'm about to preach today.

  208. Today God wants to hand us the key

  209. to the door.

  210. The key to what you might ask?

  211. The key to heaven on earth.

  212. The key to heaven on earth. Today I want

  213. to give you three attributes of heaven

  214. on earth. uh how we see how the Bible

  215. kind of explains uh heaven's

  216. relationship to earth and how to open

  217. the door to heaven on earth. Number one

  218. in your notes is that heaven came down.

  219. Heaven came down. We'll never experience

  220. heaven on earth until we first have the

  221. theological understanding or the

  222. revelation that heaven came down to

  223. earth.

  224. John chapter 6 and verse 38 Jesus

    John 6 chapter mention

  225. said,"For I have come down from where? I

  226. have come down from heaven." And here's

  227. the purpose. Not to do my own will, but

  228. the will of him who sent me.

  229. There's a purpose to heaven on earth. So

  230. Jesus came down from heaven to do the

  231. will of heaven. You can write that down.

  232. Heaven is not some faroff concept.

  233. Uh too often our Christian mindset and

  234. it's been preached to us. I know why we

  235. think the way that we think, but our

  236. Christian mindset puts heaven simply as

  237. a destination after death.

  238. And it is. But there's more to heaven.

  239. And we get fixated on the one thing of

  240. getting to heaven.

  241. Just want to get to heaven. And and it's

  242. great and it's true and it's real. But

  243. Jesus taught us to pray this way in

  244. Matthew chapter 6 and verse 10. Listen

    Matthew 6 chapter mention

  245. to this. This is your Jesus teaching us

  246. to pray. He says, "Your kingdom come,

  247. your will be done on earth

  248. as it is in heaven." Wait a minute.

  249. We're seeing a different relationship.

  250. So heaven isn't just some faroff place

  251. that when we die, we get to go sit up

  252. there with uh little fat angels and

  253. harps.

  254. I don't think that's what heaven looks

  255. like. I don't know what goof came up

  256. with that idea.

  257. Little cherubs, is that what they call

  258. them? Why are they always little fat

  259. things playing a harp? And I'm like,

  260. that's not in the Bible.

  261. Matter of fact, angels are scary. If you

  262. read about what angels look like, I'm

  263. like, whoa, how many eyeballs? Like,

  264. whoa. You know, don't read Revelation

  265. till you're ready for it, baby. You know

  266. what I mean? But I'm just saying, man,

  267. you know, we got this mindset of that

  268. heaven is some distance place. Then

  269. Jesus taught us to pray, "Your kingdom

  270. come, your will be done right here on

  271. earth just as it is in heaven."

  272. >> Say, "Heaven on earth."

  273. >> Heaven on earth.

  274. >> He didn't say, "Help us endure earth

  275. until we get to heaven."

  276. Oh, I'm just a sinner saved by grace. I

  277. can hardly wait to go home and be with

  278. my

  279. We have that in us. But can I tell you

  280. there's more to the story? That through

  281. the blood of Jesus Christ, let catch

  282. this. He who the son sets free is free

  283. indeed. That there is a power and a

  284. freedom just like the establishment of

  285. heaven that is available in us, through

  286. us, and for us today.

  287. He said, "Pray for heaven's reality to

  288. be here on earth

  289. in your home, in your health, in your

  290. hands." Right? Heaven on earth. Here,

  291. here's the big idea I want want you to

  292. grab a hold of today. To live life on

  293. earth as it is in heaven.

  294. Y'all got quiet on me.

  295. If you're taking notes, you can write

  296. this down. Heaven's not only the

  297. destination,

  298. it's the directive.

  299. Heaven's not only the destination,

  300. it's the directive.

  301. That means the culture of heaven should

  302. be according to Jesus released into our

  303. lives.

  304. Our directive, our aspiration, our

  305. desire is not my will be done but Lord

  306. your will be done. Not my kingdom

  307. but your kingdom come. Some people are

  308. building their own kingdom. And we talk

  309. about legacy there. That's all about

  310. their own legacy.

  311. You have legacy. Let me catch want you

  312. to catch this. Your legacy comes through

  313. him.

  314. True legacy.

  315. Amen.

  316. Not my will, but your will be done.

  317. Freedom starts when you abandon your

  318. will for heaven's will.

  319. I need you to get this. Heaven doesn't

  320. just wait for us when we die.

  321. In Christ, heaven comes down and is made

  322. available to us. And I want you to hear

  323. this. It's our gratitude, our

  324. thankfulness that is the key that

  325. unlocks the door. Number

  326. one is heaven came down. Number two in

  327. your notes is that heaven came out.

  328. So man, it would be one thing if uh

  329. heaven came down. In other words, if

  330. Jesus just came down and stood there and

  331. I'm sure there would have been crowds of

  332. people just in awe that that God came

  333. down and and stood there. Heaven came

  334. down.

  335. But really what we see through the life

  336. and ministry of Jesus Christ is heaven

  337. displayed for us to participate in.

  338. The miracles were happening. The words

  339. of heaven were coming forth. Amen.

  340. And it was spreading across the land.

  341. Then the apostles got a hold of that

  342. heaven concept. Thy kingdom come, thy

  343. will be done on earth as it is in

  344. heaven. And they spread the message all

  345. across the known world.

  346. So much so that 2,000 years later, we're

  347. standing in a distant country from where

  348. it was ever preached.

  349. loving God and hearing the gospel.

  350. John 6:38 Jesus said, "For I have come

    John 6:38

  351. down from heaven, catch this, not to do

  352. my own will, but the will of him who

  353. sent me."

  354. He didn't just come down from heaven. He

  355. came down to give heaven.

  356. We often talk about it here at Grace

  357. Summit Church, a culture of generosity.

  358. Man, I love somebody said in the movie

  359. about raking leaves. It's just

  360. generosity, right? And uh we Jenny was

  361. joking uh about Uncle Art. She goes, "I

  362. I knew that he would go after we did his

  363. leaves

  364. [laughter]

  365. because he has a huge yard with lots of

  366. trees, right?" And and it's fun to get

  367. out there and do, you know, culture of

  368. generosity. Let me say this. The reason

  369. that we have a culture of generosity

  370. here is because generosity is the

  371. culture of heaven.

  372. >> The reason that we have a culture of

  373. servitude here is because servitude is

  374. the culture of heaven.

  375. Heaven came down but heaven came out.

  376. I think about the generosity of God the

  377. father sending Jesus

  378. to earth. He sends his own son

  379. down here to rescue us because he loves

  380. us. You know, the Bible says that we

  381. love him because he first

  382. loved us.

  383. How many of you know that he didn't have

  384. to do it?

  385. It was in his heart to do it.

  386. God wanted to do it. that whosoever will

  387. call upon the name of the Lord will be

  388. saved. That's the heart of the father.

  389. That generosity, that gratitude. I just

  390. want to be with you. I want you to be

  391. with me.

  392. God is for us, not against us.

  393. I got to say this. It starts with

  394. gratitude. And gratitude produces

  395. generosity.

  396. You can write this down. Gratitude that

  397. stays contained is not sustained.

  398. In other words, if you keep it, you lose

  399. it.

  400. It's interesting. If you plan it, it

  401. multiplies.

  402. Say, "Give it away."

  403. Sorry. First service, Carla was up front

  404. and she started singing, "Give it away.

  405. Give it away. Give it away. Give it

  406. away." now.

  407. And then Ethan's up here going, "Give it

  408. away. Give it away. Give it away." Like,

  409. "What are you guys doing to my brain?"

  410. So now I can't preach my own notes and

  411. say, "Give it away without hearing give

  412. it away, give it away, give it away,

  413. give it away." Now

  414. sheesh,

  415. we're dating ourselves. That song's

  416. starting to get old, isn't it? That 80s

  417. Red Hot Chili.

  418. >> 90s Red Hot Chili. Thank you, brother

  419. Bone. Lord's blessings upon you.

  420. What other What other church in America

  421. had a red hot chili peppers

  422. >> plug?

  423. Think we all need to get saved now.

  424. Hallelujah.

  425. >> What was I talking about?

  426. Gave it away.

  427. See, I can't even say that. I keep

  428. hearing it. Give it away. Give it away.

  429. Now, [snorts] gratitude is the door

  430. swinging inward. Generosity is that same

  431. door swinging outward,

  432. releasing heaven's power into the world

  433. around you. All right, I want to break

  434. this down a little bit. Psalms 100 and

  435. verse4 scripture a lot of us know.

  436. Psalmist said this in verse four, he

  437. said, "Enter his gates with thanksgiving

  438. and his courts with praise. Give thanks

  439. to him and praise his name. Man, that is

  440. an awesome scripture. I've quoted it so

  441. many times and man, I hear it thrown

  442. around. We talk about it. Enter his

  443. gates with thanksgiving into his courts

  444. with praise. And it sounds uh sweet. It

  445. sounds passive, doesn't it? That like

  446. when I enter his his this holy place,

  447. when I enter his courts, I I I man, I

  448. just feel some kind of way. And so, I

  449. start being thankful and and praising

  450. God. And that is not the language of the

  451. Hebrew scripture.

  452. There's nothing passive about this

  453. scripture. There's actually something

  454. incredibly explosive in the text here

  455. that that I want you to hear. The word

  456. for thanksgiving is the Hebrew word toa.

  457. Enter his gates with toa. Uh toada in

  458. its original context was never given

  459. after the victory,

  460. but it was given before the battle.

  461. The key that unlocks the door. And you

  462. guys remember that cool uh scripture uh

  463. where they're talking about Jericho

  464. sung about it in Sunday school maybe

  465. walls of Jericho coming down. Man, they

  466. had this issue, right? The walls of the

  467. city, they need to get in there, man.

  468. How are we going to do this? And so God

  469. gives them clear direction. They they

  470. march around this thing and they praise

  471. God and then they give a shout and the

  472. walls come crumbling down.

  473. My goodness, that was a tota given. It

  474. was a shout of gratitude and praise that

  475. changed the molecular structure of the

  476. walls of Jericho.

  477. Enter his gates with thanksgiving

  478. and his courts with with praise.

  479. It's a declaration of trust in what God

  480. is about to do.

  481. It's faith.

  482. We

  483. tend to use thanksgiving for what God

  484. has done.

  485. Oh, I got a big bonus in my check. I'm

  486. so thankful. God, thank you.

  487. So thankful. And we put that's that's

  488. how we use praise and thanksgiving is

  489. after something good happens, then we

  490. get thankful. In biblical language, the

  491. thankfulness comes on this side. Before

  492. I even enter the battle,

  493. >> God, I'm thanking you for the

  494. breakthrough. Before we even face

  495. Goliath, we we're already thanking God

  496. for the victory.

  497. Thankfulness is the key that unlocks the

  498. door to your victory.

  499. The word for gates means to split

  500. open,

  501. to rend open.

  502. It would be like

  503. a wall right here that has no door.

  504. that would have been ripped open, split

  505. open by God. It's the same word that was

  506. used when the children of Israel crossed

  507. the Red Sea. The waters split.

  508. God ripped it open.

  509. It doesn't make sense in the natural.

  510. And I want you to hear this. Your

  511. gratitude, your thankfulness, and your

  512. praise will split the sea in your life.

  513. Amen.

  514. It will change the things that you look

  515. at and you can say, "Man, there's no way

  516. for me to get to the other side.

  517. There's no way for me to get the

  518. breakthrough. I'm I'm stuck." Begin to

  519. praise God and have gratitude. Let it

  520. turn into generosity. The psalmist

  521. really gives us the master key to bring

  522. heaven to earth

  523. and to bring victory in the battle. We

  524. enter his gates with thanksgiving. It's

  525. just like me saying I enter my house

  526. with my key,

  527. right? Or I enter my truck with my key,

  528. but I don't do this anymore. We do

  529. >> we do this thing now.

  530. >> Those are called a fob, right?

  531. >> I say it's been a long time since I've

  532. actually stuck a key in a door and

  533. >> done that because we do. But but I but I

  534. enter my house

  535. with a key.

  536. I enter his presence with thanksgiving.

  537. Are you guys catching that? This is the

  538. key

  539. >> that unlocks the door.

  540. Your praise doesn't just celebrate the

  541. open door, it creates it.

  542. Paul and Silas in Acts chapter 16.

    Acts 16 chapter mention

  543. Interesting text. I've just been kind of

  544. hanging out in Acts 16 lately and kind

  545. of letting it resonate in my spirit. And

  546. uh verse 25 uh picks up with Paul and

  547. Silas. Give you a little context. these

  548. guys uh journeyed up here to this place,

  549. right? And Acts 16 is amazing. So, just

  550. before we get to this scene, uh

  551. powerful thing because they're

  552. journeying along in the whole they're

  553. supposed to they think they're going to

  554. Asia Minor, preach the gospel, spread

  555. the spread the good news. Then God says,

  556. "Nope, don't go there. Keep moving up a

  557. little bit." And they keep kind of

  558. having this experience with God. They

  559. start thinking in their own mind, "This

  560. is where we're supposed to go. This is

  561. what we're going to do." Then if you

  562. want to make God laugh, tell him your

  563. plans, right? And so the Holy Spirit

  564. keeps stopping them and they finally

  565. they end up in this place, man. Then

  566. they start preaching the word. I got to

  567. tell you, we're about to hear of a

  568. testimony of Acts chapter 16 that

    Acts 16 chapter mention

  569. changed the world. But can I tell you

  570. that your world has probably changed

  571. because of Acts chapter 16? Because in

    Acts 16 chapter mention

  572. that journeying, in their sensitivity to

  573. God,

  574. of not going where they thought they

  575. needed to go, not my will, but your will

  576. be done. They ended up, and that's where

  577. the spreading of the gospel across

  578. Europe began.

  579. Europe would have not heard the gospel

  580. message if it wasn't for Paul being

  581. obedient in Acts chapter 16. Many of us

    Acts 16 chapter mention

  582. have European roots, right? looking

  583. across. I see a lot of lot of white

  584. folks out here. [laughter]

  585. Y'all pale.

  586. Oh, there there's more than European

  587. descent here. But I just got to say

  588. this, right? Then that traveled over to

  589. America before the gospel spread across

  590. because of obedience. All right, that's

  591. Acts 16. That was a side note, right?

  592. Acts 16 verse 25 uh builds us into this

    Acts 16:25

  593. scene. They get up there, man. They get

  594. they get persecuted just doing the will

  595. of God. They get beaten. They get thrown

  596. in prison. All this stuff's going on,

  597. right? Acts 16:25 says about midnight,

    Acts 16:25

  598. Paul and Silas were praying and singing

  599. hymns to God. Wait a minute. These guys

  600. got locked up. They just got beat by

  601. by guards and they're thrown into the

  602. jail cell. It says about midnight, man,

  603. they just started getting gratitude.

  604. They start Paul and Silas start praising

  605. God, singing hymns to God and the

  606. prisoners were listening to them

  607. and suddenly say suddenly

  608. >> suddenly

  609. >> there was a great earthquake so that the

  610. foundations of the prison were shaken

  611. and immediately all the doors were

  612. opened and everyone's bonds were

  613. unfassened.

  614. At midnight they didn't complain.

  615. God, we just came here to do your will.

  616. We were going to go to Asia Minor. How

  617. you brought us? Why are we in prison?

  618. This is what I get. This is what I get

  619. for serving you, God.

  620. You're reading some of y'all's mail,

  621. ain't I?

  622. They didn't complain. They began to

  623. praise God. They began to worship God

  624. because they knew that praise and

  625. worship is the key that unlocks the

  626. door.

  627. I want to hand you the key today to

  628. freedom, to power.

  629. Bible says, "Do all things without

  630. murmuring or complaining."

  631. There's a reason for that. It's not just

  632. big boogie monster God saying, "Stop

  633. complaining." It's God smiling down on

  634. you saying, "I want you to have power

  635. and freedom and victory." And every time

  636. you complain, you're locking the door

  637. and you're trapped on the wrong side.

  638. But when you get a heart full of

  639. gratitude,

  640. that gratitude is the door swinging in.

  641. Generosity is the door swinging out.

  642. When you allow that gratitude to turn

  643. into generosity and praise and worship

  644. and listen, it's not only them that are

  645. being affected by this. There's other

  646. people listening.

  647. And it changed the molecular structure

  648. of a jail cell.

  649. Your natural situation, it makes no

  650. sense. There is no way. Can I tell you

  651. that we have a God that makes a way

  652. where there is no way?

  653. almost started preaching.

  654. I will

  655. midnight. They didn't complain. They

  656. began to pray and sing

  657. and praise God. And suddenly,

  658. suddenly,

  659. they entered his gates with

  660. thanksgiving.

  661. and his courts with praise.

  662. His gate is not a physical location here

  663. on earth. His gate is a spiritual

  664. location that's available to you.

  665. They entered his gates with thanksgiving

  666. and his courts with praise. Your

  667. gratitude, your praise

  668. is the key that unlocks the door.

  669. Charles Spurgeon said this. He said,

  670. "Prayer is the rope that pulls God's

  671. grace, but praise is the rope that pulls

  672. God himself into our situation."

  673. The Bible says that God inhabits

  674. the praises of his people.

  675. Inhabits.

  676. It's like I inhabit my home. Dwell

  677. there. I live there. God lives in the

  678. praises of his people. He shows up when

  679. you begin to praise him in spite of

  680. circumstance. We're called to walk by

  681. faith, not sight.

  682. Doesn't matter what you see. Doesn't

  683. matter what you feel. Doesn't matter

  684. what you think. Praise him anyways and

  685. watch the door open.

  686. I was thinking about Isaiah. I think

  687. it's 61. Put on the garment of praise.

  688. Put on the garment of praise.

  689. Put on the garment of praise. You got to

  690. put it on.

  691. got to put it on. I'm thankful this

  692. morning that you guys put on clothes

  693. before you came to church.

  694. Yeah. I've never tried that thing where

  695. they say if you're nervous, picture

  696. people naked or whatever. You ever heard

  697. that? I'm like, uh, yuck. No.

  698. Go from nervous to really uncomfortable

  699. up here. [laughter]

  700. But man, every day we do this, we we

  701. take initiative. I'm a little anal about

  702. things. So, I get my Sunday clothes out

  703. Saturday night. And I didn't have to

  704. iron this. This just went in the dryer.

  705. But a lot of times I'm ironing the night

  706. before and I have all my stuff. That's

  707. just the way my brain processes. I like

  708. to wake up Sunday morning and it's all

  709. ready to to rock and roll. I put energy

  710. into this thing and then I put it on.

  711. Put on the garment of praise.

  712. God shows up,

  713. opens the door. Look at your neighbor

  714. and say, "Open the door."

  715. The tongue has the power of life and

  716. death.

  717. The prayer says, "On earth

  718. as it is in heaven."

  719. as it is in heaven. I got to say this. I

  720. think heaven is a loud place. I think

  721. heaven is a place of praise, a place of

  722. freedom. Jesus came to set the captive

  723. free. You guys ever heard this saying,

  724. "Give them hell."

  725. >> Don't look at your neighbor and say

  726. that.

  727. You know what I say? Give them heaven.

  728. >> Give him heaven. Give him heaven. Praise

  729. God. Give him heaven. Can I say this?

  730. Quiet faith is dead faith.

  731. Bible says faith without works is dead.

  732. I'll say this. Gratitude without

  733. generosity is dead. Joy without praise

  734. is dead. God doesn't bless you just to

  735. bless you. God blesses you to use you.

  736. Heaven comes down. Heaven comes out.

  737. Number three in your notes is that

  738. heaven comes through.

  739. Heaven comes through.

  740. Continuing

  741. in Acts chapter 16 after they begin to

    Acts 16 chapter mention

  742. praise God and

  743. suddenly the earthquake falls down and

  744. opens up the prison.

  745. Verse 27 says,

  746. "When the jailer woke and saw that the

  747. prison doors were open, he drew his

  748. sword,

  749. was about to kill himself, supposing

  750. that the prisoners had escaped.

  751. But Paul cried out with a loud voice. He

  752. says, "Don't harm yourself. We're all

  753. here."

  754. The jailer called for the lights and

  755. rushed in. And trembling with fear, he

  756. fell down before Paul and Silas.

  757. Then he brought them out and said,

  758. "Sers,

  759. what must I do to be saved?"

  760. They said, "Believe in the Lord Jesus

  761. and you will be saved, you and your

  762. household."

  763. And they spoke the word of the Lord to

  764. him to all who were in his house.

  765. He took them the same hour of the night

  766. and washed their wounds.

  767. And he was baptized at once, he and all

  768. his family.

  769. Then brought them up to his house and

  770. set food before them.

  771. And he rejoiced along with his entire

  772. household

  773. that he had believed in God.

  774. Heaven comes through. I'll say this.

  775. Heaven has an intended target.

  776. It's the broken, the lost, the hurting.

  777. God's power is not some parlor trick for

  778. you to use.

  779. God's grace and power has an intended

  780. target. You once were that target and

  781. you gave your life to Jesus Christ and

  782. were saved. Now, God wants to use you to

  783. reach other people that are hurting and

  784. lost and broken. And can I say,

  785. if you're praising God, it happens when

  786. you least expect it.

  787. They just began to praise God.

  788. They get free. The shackles come off.

  789. This jailer gets all upset,

  790. ready to kill himself. The man becomes

  791. suicidal.

  792. Paul Trump says, "Whoa, whoa, whoa, no.

  793. We're here. We're here. We're here. But

  794. let me tell you about Jesus." Can I tell

  795. you that when heaven shows up, the

  796. people around you that are lost will run

  797. just like this jailer did and say, "H

  798. how do I get saved, sir? What must I do

  799. to get saved?" And it will affect an

  800. entire household. They got baptized,

  801. man. And who was once holding them in

  802. bondage now becomes their brother. now

  803. begins to wash their wounds and set a

  804. set some food before him and say, "Man,

  805. this is I love you that you're my

  806. brother.

  807. Heaven came through.

  808. I'm going to ask the worship team to

  809. join me up here.

  810. You got saved for a reason.

  811. You got saved with purpose.

  812. Heaven came down.

  813. Heaven came out.

  814. And heaven comes through. Say gratitude.

  815. Gratitude is letting go of what holds

  816. you to lay hold of what God has for you.

  817. I I think of Paul and Silas. Man, they

  818. weren't in sin, but they found

  819. themselves in prison. Can I say you

  820. might be in some type of prison today?

  821. Just begin to praise God and watch the

  822. doors open. And I'll I'll I'll tell you

  823. this. Just like this scene, other people

  824. that see you in a type of bondage or a

  825. type of prison, when you begin to praise

  826. God anyways, and the foundations of your

  827. life get shook and you find freedom,

  828. there will be people running to you

  829. saying, "H, how in the world did you do

  830. that? How how do I get that type of

  831. faith? How do I get that type of peace?

  832. How do I get saved?

  833. Yeah, you're in prison. God says, "I

  834. have something bigger than your prison."

  835. There's purpose to your pain.

  836. It's more than just knowing it. It's

  837. owning it. TD Jake says this. He says,

  838. "You can't walk into your future holding

  839. on to your past.

  840. Awtoer said, "True faith is not the

  841. absence of struggle.

  842. It's the presence of obedience."

  843. Your obedience

  844. becomes the pathway for heaven to come

  845. through to its intended target.

  846. And I'll say this with this capital

  847. campaign, your obedient generosity is

  848. fueling

  849. is opening the door to be a witness to

  850. other people to give their life to Jesus

  851. [music] Christ

  852. to reach its intended target. Hurting,

  853. lost, broken people.

  854. This is why we praise.

  855. You know, we have a culture of

  856. generosity here. You guys ever wonder

  857. why we'd start church with praise and

  858. worship?

  859. Oh, I've been preaching about it for an

  860. hour now.

  861. And when we begin to praise God

  862. together,

  863. when we begin to worship and just have

  864. that heart of gratitude, it it opens

  865. something up. The atmosphere begins to

  866. shift and and heaven starts to settle in

  867. this place because God inhabits the

  868. praises of his people.

  869. We're not just coming to sing some

  870. karaoke. We're not just coming to a

  871. concert to watch a performance. We're

  872. coming to worship the God that died for

  873. us. We're coming to praise his name

  874. because because there's nothing else

  875. worth praising. Amen.

  876. Let's stand to our feet all over this

  877. house. [music]

  878. Just a moment. We're going to praise him

  879. once again before we leave this place.

  880. But here's the question that I have for

  881. you today.

  882. Where does heaven need to come down into

  883. your life?

  884. Where does heaven need to come out?

  885. Where does heaven need to come through

  886. your life this week?

  887. What's the area that

  888. you need to [music] begin to praise God

  889. again? What's the what's the prison that

  890. you're in? Get your mind out. What's

  891. that area that if I just start showing

  892. gratitude

  893. >> and being thankful that God will show up

  894. in my life,

  895. where is the Holy Spirit asking you to

  896. turn gratitude into generosity?

  897. Let me ask you this. Who's your jailer?

  898. Who's the person that's just waiting for

  899. you to begin to praise God and get the

  900. breakthrough?

  901. I I picture all of heaven just kind of

  902. waiting for this moment for for for you

  903. to step into that. And who's your jailer

  904. that that when they see you get freedom,

  905. they're going to give their life to

  906. Christ.

  907. Can I just say you're not going to win

  908. them with intellectual arguments.

  909. You're going to win them with heaven,

  910. the reality of heaven. So, in just a

  911. moment

  912. as we pray, I want to challenge you to

  913. ask the Holy Spirit to show you,

  914. one gate

  915. in your life that you need to open with

  916. thanksgiving,

  917. one gift that you need to release in

  918. generosity,

  919. and one person

  920. that heaven wants to affect to save

  921. through your life.

  922. Now close with this statement. Don't

  923. just count your blessings. Let your

  924. blessings count.

  925. Pray with me. Father, we thank you Lord

  926. for freedom.

  927. Lord, we know that you saved us with

  928. purpose.

  929. And Father, as we live in this world and

  930. we experience what we experience, Lord,

  931. it's too easy sometimes to begin to

  932. complain and to lose our gratefulness.

  933. But father I thank you for recalibrating

  934. our spirit, our soul and our mind.

  935. Father, today we praise you.

  936. Lord, let us live

  937. with a heart of gratitude

  938. towards you.

  939. Praise you in the storm.

  940. Thank you, Jesus.

  941. Saints, could you we just begin to thank

  942. him right now? We have plenty to be

  943. thankful for. Father, I thank you. Just

  944. begin to speak that out. Father, I thank

  945. you, Lord, for for my family. I thank

  946. you, God, for my salvation.

  947. God, I thank you, Lord, for the calling

  948. that you've placed on my life, Lord. I

  949. thank you for Grace Summit Church, for

  950. having this people, God, to love me and

  951. to to do life with me, God. I thank you,

  952. God, for for for my future and where

  953. you're taking me, Lord. Praise you,

  954. Jesus. Hallelujah. You're worthy today,

  955. God. You're worthy of our praise.

  956. Thank you, Jesus. Hallelujah.

  957. Thank you Lord.

  958. >> I love you father.

  959. >> Thank you Jesus.

  960. >> God

  961. praise you God

  962. in Jesus name.

  963. Amen. We're going to have our prayer

  964. team come up front and during this last

  965. [music] time we're going to be praising

  966. God together.

  967. If you need prayer for anything want to

  968. invite you to come during this closing

  969. song. We'll pray with you. will trust

  970. God for your miracle, whatever that is.

  971. But can I challenge you in this moment

  972. to have a moment with God?

  973. Let God's Holy Spirit minister grace to

  974. you. Let's worship the Lord together.

  975. [music]

  976. All right. [music]
