  1. Uh-huh.

  2. >> [music]

  3. [music]

  4. >> Hallelujah.

  5. How's everybody feeling today?

  6. [applause]

  7. Good.

  8. Well, hey, if you're new to Grace Summit

  9. Church, welcome and excited you're here.

  10. My name is Ben. I have the opportunity

  11. to serve as lead pastor here. And uh are

  12. you guys ready to get to business today?

  13. >> My goodness. Do you guys know that uh

  14. last week was challenge Sunday and today

  15. is commitment Sunday. Say commitment.

  16. >> Commitment.

  17. >> So, we are in a campaign season and uh

  18. man, we've been fasting for 21 days. I

  19. think we're we're about done.

  20. Anyone going to any crazy restaurants to

  21. celebrate? Right.

  22. >> Uh man, but we have been fasting and

  23. praying for the future of Grace Summit

  24. Church. And really what we've been

  25. talking about for several months is

  26. legacy. Uh legacy. What we do today, I

  27. believe this echoes in eternity. It

  28. echoes through future generations. And I

  29. was thinking about it, man, when I got

  30. saved

  31. 25 years ago.

  32. Doesn't that sound old?

  33. >> I'm not that old.

  34. >> Thanks, Pastor Dan. Uh, when I got

  35. saved, I I was looking back and it was

  36. really my first experience when I walked

  37. into that church. It was my first

  38. experience in a large non-denominational

  39. church. They had electric guitars and

  40. drummers and smoke machines and people

  41. in their 20s with lattes worshiping. And

  42. I'm like, man, this is not grandma's

  43. church, right? And uh you know, I just I

  44. was thinking back because that's the

  45. venue that God used to reach me.

  46. >> And I was thinking about all of the

  47. people in that generation that made a

  48. way for me

  49. because that was a huge church. And it

  50. takes a lot to to build these things.

  51. And man, I was thinking about a whole

  52. generation that God used to create a

  53. platform where I could walk in as an

  54. atheist, as an addict on any random

  55. Sunday and give my life to Jesus Christ.

  56. >> And that's what God is doing here. He's

  57. expanding us. He's growing us. I don't

  58. know if you look around, there's not a

  59. lot of empty seats in the house.

  60. >> First service was very similar. And uh

  61. what God's calling us to is right around

  62. 200 of us coming together to build and

  63. advance the kingdom of God.

  64. My goodness.

  65. A place where thousands can come

  66. over generations

  67. and receive the word of God and to make

  68. heaven their home. So what we out build

  69. today, what we build today will outlive

  70. us

  71. and bless people that we've never met

  72. before.

  73. That's what God's up to. So we're not

  74. just building a building. We're building

  75. a legacy.

  76. And I'm thankful for the foundation

  77. that's been laid here. And we've been

  78. praying and seeking for three or four

  79. years, maybe even longer, about God,

  80. what are you doing here? And so today is

  81. commitment Sunday that we're not only

  82. hearing from you. We did surveys this

  83. summer. Uh we're not just hearing from

  84. you in survey, but we're hearing from

  85. you what God has spoke to you through

  86. commitment.

  87. Through commitment. We're making some of

  88. us are making initial one-time

  89. offerings

  90. andor three-year pledge commitments

  91. [clears throat]

  92. to see what God's up to.

  93. So we don't give out of obligation. We

  94. give out of gratitude

  95. for what God's doing and has done.

  96. So today we become the answer to someone

  97. else's prayer.

  98. Isn't that good? You guys, I look around

  99. America and I just feel what's happening

  100. here. There's revival taking place

  101. there. There's an awakening taking place

  102. in the hearts of people and particularly

  103. in the hearts of young people. And what

  104. God has been speaking to us is prepare

  105. for the influx, prepare for the revival.

  106. And so that's what we're up to. Uh it's

  107. equal sacrifice, not equal giving. And

  108. generosity is not measured by the size

  109. of the gift, but uh by the size of the

  110. sacrifice. Do you believe that?

  111. So living sacrificially

  112. to leave a legacy for an eternal

  113. investment.

  114. So, you've prayed, you've filled out

  115. your commitment cards, and uh out in the

  116. lobby there's an orange table and

  117. there's a basket on it, right, Loretta?

  118. >> There's a basket out there. So, if you

  119. brought your commitment card back today,

  120. drop it in there, man. If you forgot it

  121. and you need some more time to pray and

  122. see what God's up to for your life, uh

  123. man, you can just bring it anytime. And

  124. uh if the orange table isn't there a

  125. month from now, just hand it to an

  126. usher. And uh we uh just want to see

  127. what God's up to. Psalms 127 and verse

  128. one says, "Unless the Lord builds the

  129. house, the builders labor in vain."

  130. Unless the Lord watches over the city,

  131. the guards stand watch in vain.

  132. That's our heart to partner with God so

  133. that he can build his house.

  134. Praise the Lord. One summit every

  135. generation.

  136. >> All right, you guys ready for the word

  137. of God?

  138. >> Man, I'm ready to preach. You guys ready

  139. to hear the word?

  140. >> Most of you. Are you guys ready for the

  141. word?

  142. >> Hallelujah.

  143. >> Well, I'm going to pray and we're going

  144. to dive in. Father, we thank you, Lord,

  145. for revival breaking loose in the hearts

  146. of individuals. God, that we come

  147. together today corporately to worship

  148. you in spirit and in truth. And Father,

  149. I thank you for the anointing upon the

  150. preaching of your word. Father, I thank

  151. you for the joy of the Lord being our

  152. strength today. And so, Father, continue

  153. to release revival into us, God, that we

  154. would represent you well, God. Yes.

  155. >> Praise you, Jesus. And so, Father, we

  156. thank you for Grace Summit Church. We

  157. thank you for our family of believers.

  158. Now, God, we came to hear from you.

  159. Speak now in Jesus name. Amen.

  160. >> Well, hey, if you're new to Grace Summit

  161. Church, our culture here is that we take

  162. notes and we interact. Uh we we get a

  163. little loud sometimes. Amen. And uh man,

  164. we're just excited for what God's doing.

  165. And we believe that participation is

  166. better than observation.

  167. >> Amen.

  168. >> Every everyone say it. Amen.

  169. >> Amen.

  170. >> Look at that. You participated.

  171. >> So, we're in a series uh called When in

  172. Romans. And today we are wrapping up the

  173. series. And uh this is for you today.

  174. The last two weeks we've been getting

  175. our identity papers in order.

  176. Two weeks ago we found out that we are

  177. grafted in. Say grafted in.

  178. >> We got our spiritual birth certificate,

  179. our heritage,

  180. our DNA to know that we're part of

  181. something spiritual and we're part of

  182. something bigger.

  183. We're not spiritual orphans.

  184. We've been adopted into the family of

  185. God. You adopted.

  186. You got your adoption papers in the

  187. spirit. We're sons of God. Sons of

  188. Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

  189. We have heritage. Last week, we found

  190. out that we are betrothed. We're engaged

  191. legally in covenant with another to be

  192. married.

  193. Jesus went to prepare a place for us.

  194. And he's coming back for his bride, the

  195. church. That's you.

  196. He's coming back for a people.

  197. He's coming back for you without spot or

  198. wrinkle. The Bible says that we're holy

  199. as he is holy.

  200. Question is, how do we do that? Right?

  201. How do we do that? So, we got our

  202. adoption papers.

  203. We got our wedding

  204. paperwork, marriage certificate, because

  205. legally we're bound to another. Um, I

  206. wonder if anyone went out and bought a

  207. ring last week. And remember, we're

  208. talking about the ring, that covenant

  209. with God.

  210. We're getting our papers in order.

  211. So

  212. spiritual birth certificate, our

  213. marriage papers. Today

  214. we get our military papers. Say

  215. military.

  216. It's our assignment.

  217. Look at your neighbor and say get your

  218. papers in order.

  219. Romans chapter 13 and verse 12.

    Romans 13 chapter mention

  220. Paul said this. He said, "The night is

  221. far gone. The day is at hand. So then,

  222. let us cast off the works of darkness

  223. and put on the armor of light.

  224. I want to talk to you today

  225. about two realms and two armors.

  226. Two realms and two armors.

  227. Paul says to cast off the works of

  228. darkness

  229. and put on the armor of light. two

  230. realms,

  231. two armors. First, we need to understand

  232. the backdrop.

  233. Paul is writing to believers in Rome.

  234. And Rome at that time was the epicenter

  235. of the most powerful military that had

  236. ever been on the earth.

  237. You guys got really quiet.

  238. the epicenter of a powerful military

  239. machine

  240. and the sight of Roman soldiers, their

  241. armor, their discipline. This was normal

  242. life.

  243. And I got to say, there's nothing quite

  244. like a Roman soldier. I I scoured I I

  245. scoured the internet. I really wanted to

  246. play a video clip, a movie clip of the

  247. movie Gladiator. You guys remember that?

  248. From 2000. Isn't that an incredible

  249. movie? Yeah. And I looked through and I

  250. was like, man, this is epic. This is

  251. powerful, but it's so violent. I mean,

  252. the guy, they're chopping heads off and

  253. all this stuff. And I'm just like, and

  254. then there was some bad language in it.

  255. And I'm going, we can't play that in

  256. church, right? But if you've seen it,

  257. you know, because man, he plays a Roman

  258. soldier like you've never seen before.

  259. And he's kicking butt and taking names.

  260. Amen.

  261. >> The title of the message today is God's

  262. Gladiator.

  263. God's gladiator.

  264. Man, in that movie, they did a great job

  265. kind of capturing the culture in the in

  266. the sense that a lot of it took place

  267. with the Roman coliseum with thousands

  268. of people there. And what Romans did for

  269. fun was put two people in there and

  270. fight to the death.

  271. That's creepy.

  272. I don't want to watch all that, right? I

  273. don't mind a good fight scene in a

  274. movie, but I don't want to be present in

  275. the Roman coliseum while these guys are

  276. killing each other, right?

  277. How many know

  278. that you're in a fight to the death? I

  279. have three points that I want to give

  280. you today to help you understand your

  281. assignment. Number one is the fight.

  282. The fight.

  283. The Roman soldier was part of daily

  284. life. You know, they didn't have cops in

  285. Rome.

  286. They had soldiers

  287. military.

  288. Uh Romans is a letter written by Paul.

  289. He's been there. He's lived there.

  290. He's been in prison there. He

  291. understands Roman military. And he knows

  292. that the church will too.

  293. So, one of the things we don't see when

  294. we read our Bible in the English

  295. translation

  296. 2,000 years after it was written,

  297. we what we don't see in the original

  298. language is the military words used by

  299. Paul.

  300. Military language.

  301. The original language used

  302. was Roman military language that he's

  303. writing to the church in Rome. to

  304. explain the to the church their

  305. assignment as believers. Say assignment.

  306. Romans chapter 6 and verse 12.

    Romans 6 chapter mention

  307. Paul says this. He says, "Therefore,

  308. do not let sin reign in your mortal body

  309. so that you obey its evil desires.

  310. Do not offer any part of yourself to sin

  311. as an instrument." Say instrument.

  312. as an instrument of wickedness, but

  313. rather offer yourself to God

  314. as those who have been brought from

  315. death to life and offer every part of

  316. yourself to him as an instrument. Say

  317. instrument.

  318. As an instrument of righteousness.

  319. The word translated as instrument is a

  320. military term.

  321. One translation

  322. translates it to weapon. It's the Greek

  323. word hoplan.

  324. This is not a general tool or

  325. instrument.

  326. It's a specific weapon of war. Say war.

  327. Making you talk back to me.

  328. He uses military language. Look at your

  329. neighbor and say those are fighting

  330. words.

  331. Whenever you read the book of Romans, I

  332. want you to remember that specific term

  333. that these are fighting words. Know that

  334. you are in a war for your soul.

  335. >> The devil is trying to steal, kill, and

  336. destroy you, your marriage, your family,

  337. your home.

  338. Just like the gladiators, it's a fight

  339. to the death.

  340. Those are fighting words.

  341. Hoplan.

  342. A Roman soldier was called a hoplight.

  343. He was defined

  344. by his hoplan.

  345. He was defined by the weapon that he

  346. carried. Paul uses military language.

  347. And what he's saying is we have two

  348. realms and two weapons.

  349. Paul says, "Every part of your body,

  350. your tongue, your mind, your hands, your

  351. passion is a weapon.

  352. There is no neutral ground.

  353. You are either

  354. a weapon in the enemy's hands,

  355. offering yourself as an instrument of

  356. wickedness,

  357. or

  358. you're a weapon in God's hands,

  359. offering yourself to God.

  360. as an instrument of righteousness.

  361. Can I say that the war for holiness is

  362. not passive?

  363. You don't get to opt out.

  364. I'll tell you one of the things I've

  365. struggled with in Western Christianity,

  366. particularly in America, is this soft

  367. candycoated version of Christianity.

  368. We have a lot of nice Christians. Do you

  369. guys know that nice isn't a fruit of the

  370. spirit?

  371. The God of the New Testament is also the

  372. same God of the Old Testament.

  373. There's a spirit that dwells on the

  374. inside of us. I call it Holy Spirit.

  375. And that same spirit that produces love

  376. and joy and peace also creates a

  377. righteous indignation against sin.

  378. I hate it.

  379. I don't want anything to do with it.

  380. I'll stand against it.

  381. You don't get to opt out of the war for

  382. your soul.

  383. When you were grafted in, you were

  384. enlisted.

  385. When you said I do, to Jesus, you were

  386. drafted.

  387. Let me tell you what salvation is. It's

  388. an active redeployment

  389. of your entire being.

  390. It's from the service of the flesh

  391. to the service of the king.

  392. And what I found

  393. often times the battle is within.

  394. Amen.

  395. The battle is often on the inside of me.

  396. Paul said this in Romans 7 verse 23.

    Romans 7:23

  397. He says,"I see another law at work in me

  398. waging war." Say war.

  399. Waging war against the law of my mind.

  400. Catch this. Making me a prisoner

  401. of the law of sin at work within me.

  402. something on the inside of me waging

  403. war, trying to take me captive and put

  404. me in a prison of sin.

  405. We see this internal civil war.

  406. It's the flesh and the spirit.

  407. And catch the word war. He says waging

  408. war.

  409. The flesh and the spirit are not a minor

  410. disagreement.

  411. It's not a little argument.

  412. It's the gladiator ring.

  413. Fight to the death.

  414. The devil, the enemy, your own flesh

  415. is trying to kill you.

  416. Man, I'm preaching heavy today.

  417. I'm preaching truth today.

  418. Let me tell you where I'm preaching

  419. from. I have watched many start a good

  420. race with God. Many get saved and filled

  421. with the spirit and begin to serve God.

  422. And I have watched them become a slave

  423. again to the enemy. I have watched many

  424. commit suicide. I have watched many

  425. overdose on drugs and die. I have

  426. watched many destroy marriages and

  427. families. The ones that used to know God

  428. and love God and worship GOD AND CONFESS

  429. WITH THEIR MOUTH THAT JESUS Christ is

  430. Lord are now a prisoner again to sin

  431. because they lost the battle.

  432. I'm not going to lose the battle.

  433. Through Christ we win.

  434. oftentimes it's not a single battle,

  435. flesh and the spirit

  436. or in an ongoing military conflict. Man,

  437. I want to say this. Uh the believer's

  438. struggle

  439. with flesh is not a failure of faith.

  440. It's a reality of salvation.

  441. The war is over contested territory.

  442. your soul.

  443. But here what Paul says in Romans 8

    Romans 8:37

  444. verse 37. He says, "No, in all these

  445. things we are more than conquerors

  446. through him who loved us."

  447. More military language, more fighting

  448. words,

  449. more than conquerors.

  450. Well, we don't just We're not just a a

  451. soldier in the battle and we're just

  452. doing our best to hold the line.

  453. just trusting and believing and we we're

  454. in this struggle all we are more say

  455. more

  456. >> more than conquerors

  457. that means we have the victory and we

  458. don't fight for the victory we fight

  459. from the victory

  460. we're more than conquerors

  461. my goodness I'm kicking butt and taking

  462. names baby come on

  463. >> take that devil

  464. You can't have my family.

  465. You can't have my future. You can't have

  466. it because I read the end of the book.

  467. We win.

  468. We win. Amen. Man, I thought that would

  469. get something out of you.

  470. Hallelujah.

  471. I'm going to make you a talk back to

  472. you, church, whether you like it or not.

  473. More than conquerors

  474. means overwhelmingly victorious

  475. to win by a landslide

  476. because of Christ.

  477. Our status is not

  478. just a bride.

  479. We're not just sons of God. We are

  480. soldiers in the army of the Lord. Do you

  481. believe that today?

  482. You're God's gladiator

  483. more than a conqueror. Number one is the

  484. fight.

  485. Number two is the fit.

  486. By the way, how do you guys like my fit

  487. today?

  488. Aren't you thankful I have women in my

  489. life to dress me?

  490. [laughter]

  491. >> Yeah. Anyone

  492. in here ever do sports in high school?

  493. Have kids that do sports?

  494. Do you guys know that the right

  495. equipment matters?

  496. I'm going to tell a story. My parents

  497. are here, by the way. Can we celebrate

  498. them?

  499. >> They're right over there.

  500. >> And uh I was thinking about this as I

  501. was preaching first service. I was like,

  502. "Oh, they're in the story and they're

  503. coming to church today.

  504. So, if you could just plug your ears and

  505. I'll preach freely.

  506. [clears throat]

  507. Now, I was in middle school. I played

  508. sports all the way through uh

  509. basketball, football, track, and it was

  510. basketball season,

  511. and I needed some shoes. Basketball, you

  512. got to have the right equipment, right?

  513. Well, mom helped out and took me I think

  514. it was Big Lots or Kmart

  515. and we got the cheap shoes. Now listen,

  516. the cheap shoes uh when you show up to

  517. school, you're not one of the cool kids,

  518. number one, right? Call me vain, but I

  519. still wanted to fit in with my buddies.

  520. And so I had the goofy cheap shoes,

  521. right? That was only half the problem.

  522. The other part is I'm in practice and

  523. when I run they're not sticky on the

  524. bottom. They're like the hard plastic

  525. soles and so I look like I'm on a

  526. skateboard out on the basketball court.

  527. So I'm like running across and like I

  528. couldn't stop.

  529. Everything I did was sliding and man it

  530. was embarrassing

  531. and uh so I talked to dad about it.

  532. Yeah.

  533. And we didn't even ask mom.

  534. He took me out and got me some really

  535. expensive Reeboks.

  536. You guys, you guys remember? I'll date

  537. myself a little bit. You guys remember

  538. the ones with the pump on the front,

  539. man? When I was in middle school, those

  540. things were working, right?

  541. Because you could go out on the court

  542. and you'd be like, you'd kneel down and

  543. be like,

  544. Right. Like, I got you.

  545. >> Yeah.

  546. Lindsay, did you have pumps?

  547. >> You didn't.

  548. You had Velcro.

  549. Yeah, those don't work on the basketball

  550. court.

  551. Man, I remember this. This is how vivid

  552. of a situation this was in my life. I

  553. remember my dad spent $130

  554. >> on a pair of Reeboks.

  555. >> And this might be the first time my

  556. mom's ever heard that number. [laughter]

  557. [snorts]

  558. And listen, that was the '9s, man. 130

  559. bucks for a pair of Reeboks was like,

  560. "Oh, working it, right?

  561. >> I don't even spend that for my shoes

  562. today."

  563. Dad was like, "Man, go big or go home,

  564. baby. Those are the ones."

  565. >> So then I show up to practice and I'm

  566. out there and I'm like, "What's up now,

  567. boy?" Yeah. Yeah. I'm like working it

  568. because I got breaks now.

  569. Yeah.

  570. How many know the right equipment

  571. matters?

  572. >> [clears throat]

  573. >> Yeah,

  574. I've carried that to many aspects of my

  575. life.

  576. Hunting,

  577. I asked in the first service, who all

  578. hunts? Not one hand went up and I was

  579. like, man, I moved to the city. We have

  580. any hunters in here?

  581. Hey, look at this. All the hunters came

  582. to second service. Nice.

  583. When I go hunting, I want the proper

  584. equipment.

  585. I want the Gortex Thinsulate boots to

  586. keep my feet warm, right? I want the I I

  587. want all the good stuff and I want the

  588. good gun. That's Man, I'm going to go.

  589. Did I just offend somebody? Somebody in

  590. here doesn't like killing of animals.

  591. Yeah, they eat food in the Bible.

  592. you

  593. animals,

  594. man. That boneless, skinless chicken

  595. breast got there somehow. Okay,

  596. [laughter]

  597. I'm just saying

  598. don't get mad at me cuz I'm

  599. [laughter]

  600. You want the right gear.

  601. Golfing, you want the right gear, right?

  602. You don't want the old wooden clubs from

  603. the 30s. You want the You want the good

  604. stuff, right? Uh I'm this way with

  605. tools. I like to work with my hands.

  606. Matter of fact, yesterday link and I we

  607. put a new carburetor on a Briggs and

  608. Stratton motor, right? And I want the

  609. right tools for the right job. And a

  610. matter of fact, if I don't have the

  611. right tools, I'm usually not even

  612. interested in doing the job.

  613. When you have the right equipment,

  614. you find success a lot quicker.

  615. Amen.

  616. I have breaks on the basketball court

  617. because I have the right equipment.

  618. How many know this? The right equipment

  619. will cost you something.

  620. You can write that down. We're not

  621. talking about sports anymore. The right

  622. equipment will cost you something.

  623. Romans 13:12, he says, "The night is far

    Romans 13:12

  624. gone. The day is at hand. So then, catch

  625. this. Let us cast off the works of

  626. darkness

  627. and put on the armor of light."

  628. You do not have enough spiritual space

  629. to put on the armor of light until you

  630. take off

  631. the wrong equipment.

  632. Say, "Take it off."

  633. Can't bring your grave clothes to the

  634. holy place.

  635. You got to strip off the old filthy

  636. uniform.

  637. I don't want to wear the enemy's logo.

  638. It's kind of like wearing an Ohio

  639. jersey.

  640. >> Come on, take off that jersey. That's

  641. the That's the opposition, right? You

  642. got to get a Michigan jersey. Come on,

  643. baby.

  644. >> I'm sorry. Did we hear IU?

  645. Boo.

  646. Is it okay to have fun in church?

  647. >> All right, Buckeye fans, please don't

  648. stone me when I go to the parking lot.

  649. He says, "Cast it off.

  650. cast it off, but then put something on.

  651. Paul not only wrote Romans this way with

  652. this military language,

  653. he also wrote Ephesians.

  654. Do you know while he wrote Ephesians, he

  655. was sitting in a Roman prison

  656. guarded by a Roman soldier. So now after

  657. this, he's writing back to the church in

  658. Rome.

  659. Listen to what he says in Ephesians

  660. 6

  661. in Rome. He says a final word. Verse 10.

  662. Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty

  663. power. Catch this. Put on. Say put on.

  664. Put on all the ar Put on all of God's

  665. armor so that you will be able to stand

  666. firm against all the strategies of the

  667. devil.

  668. My goodness.

  669. Don't put on some of it when necessary.

  670. I haven't been wearing my armor, but now

  671. I see a threat and so I'm going to get

  672. out my sword of the spirit.

  673. Right. put on all the armor.

  674. You're grafted in. That's your DNA.

  675. You're betrothed. That's your devotion.

  676. But you're also a soldier. That's your

  677. duty.

  678. Family name,

  679. your wedding ring, and now your uniform.

  680. This is who you are.

  681. Put on the armor of God.

  682. Put on the armor of God. The whole armor

  683. of God. Listen, you'll get your wedding

  684. dress in heaven.

  685. I almost started preaching.

  686. You guys ready for heaven? I was so

  687. excited last week talking about the

  688. marriage supper

  689. celebration in heaven. That gets me

  690. stirred up. But man, we'll we'll get our

  691. wedding dress in heaven, but right now

  692. we put on the whole armor

  693. of God. Ephesians 6:12, he says, "We are

    Ephesians 6:12

  694. not fighting against flesh and blood

  695. enemies, but against evil rulers and

  696. authorities

  697. of the unseen world,

  698. against, catch this, mighty powers in

  699. this dark world. and against evil

  700. spirits in the heavenly places.

  701. Not going to be nice to the devil.

  702. There are very real powers

  703. coming against you as a believer.

  704. And I'll say this, if you're not being

  705. attacked by the devil, you're probably

  706. on the wrong team.

  707. The conflict is proof of your calling.

  708. The resistance

  709. is proof that you're on the enemy's

  710. radar.

  711. The devil doesn't attack dead things.

  712. He doesn't attack dead churches,

  713. complacent Christians.

  714. He attacks threats.

  715. You're a threat because you love God.

  716. So, you better suit up and get the armor

  717. on because this is a battle you cannot

  718. opt out of.

  719. Ephesians 6:13,

    Ephesians 6:13

  720. he says, "Therefore,

  721. put on every piece of God's armor

  722. so you will be able to resist the enemy

  723. in the time of evil. Then after the

  724. battle, you will still be standing firm.

  725. Stand your ground, putting on the belt

  726. of truth."

  727. The belt of truth.

  728. Not like our belt.

  729. This was to keep both pieces of armor,

  730. the legs that were covered with metal

  731. and the upper part which was covered

  732. with metal. It held the two together. It

  733. kept everything

  734. in its place. He calls it the belt of

  735. truth.

  736. I'll say this. When the enemy whispers

  737. in your ear, you tighten up your belt

  738. and you say, "I am a child of the king.

  739. My papers are in order.

  740. I'm in covenant with the king."

  741. He says, "And the body armor of God's

  742. righteousness."

  743. We call it the breastplate of

  744. righteousness.

  745. This is the piece that protected the

  746. heart from fatal blows.

  747. This comes through the blood of Jesus

  748. Christ. We are made righteous through

  749. his blood. And so we wear that

  750. breastplate of righteousness. I'm in

  751. right standing with God. Devil, you

  752. can't hurt me.

  753. Breastplate

  754. of righteousness.

  755. Verse 15, for shoes

  756. put on the peace that comes from the

  757. good news

  758. so that you will be fully prepared.

  759. It's the shoes of the gospel of peace.

  760. These were heavy sandals

  761. and they actually had spikes underneath

  762. similar to what we would call cleats.

  763. It was to allow the soldier to have good

  764. footing. Just like my basketball shoe.

  765. And if you catch a blow, you're not

  766. going to be moved because my feet are

  767. planted firm in the peace of God.

  768. The Bible says to let the peace of God

  769. rule and reign in your heart.

  770. Peace.

  771. Your peace isn't for retreat.

  772. It's for advance.

  773. You stand firm on the good news that we

  774. have peace with God. And we're not

  775. running from the fight. We're standing

  776. our ground.

  777. In addition to all these, in verse 16,

  778. he says, "Hold up the shield of faith.

  779. Stop the fiery arrows of the devil."

  780. What this tells me is that fiery arrows

  781. from the devil are coming

  782. because we're instructed as soldiers to

  783. have the shield of faith.

  784. Say faith.

  785. Faith.

  786. It stops the attacks of the enemy. This

  787. was a massive door-shaped shield

  788. and it could extinguish every flaming

  789. dart coming.

  790. Many have said that it was covered with

  791. a type of leather that they would soak

  792. in water before battle.

  793. Washing of the water of the word. I

  794. think about the Holy Spirit being

  795. likened as water and Jesus Christ

  796. talking about living water. I think

  797. about that faith and being stirred up

  798. and the devil throwing enemy throwing

  799. arrows at us and we just stand behind

  800. our nice tall shield, lean down a little

  801. bit and it goes out

  802. faith.

  803. Verse 17,

  804. he says, "Put on salvation

  805. as your helmet."

  806. We call it the helmet of salvation.

  807. This protects our mind.

  808. The Bible says we're transformed by the

  809. renewing of our mind.

  810. It's the way that we think about God and

  811. the way that we think about oursel and

  812. the way that we think about others.

  813. It's filtered through our salvation. The

  814. assurance of our salvation.

  815. When the enemy attacks your identity,

  816. you remember that I'm saved. I'm sealed.

  817. I'm secure.

  818. My future is guaranteed.

  819. He says, "Then take the sword of the

  820. spirit,

  821. which is the word of God."

  822. My goodness, this is the first article

  823. of God's armor that is offensive.

  824. Do you know that the word of God offends

  825. the devil?

  826. We stand on it, we speak it, and we use

  827. it. It's the sword of the spirit.

  828. Think of Jesus being

  829. in the wilderness being tempted by the

  830. devil.

  831. All authority. I mean, he's God.

  832. Devil tempts him and he Jesus simply

  833. says, "It is written.

  834. It is written."

  835. Quotes the word of God.

  836. It's the sword of the spirit.

  837. There's two words in the

  838. original language

  839. for the word of God. One is logos.

  840. Americans pronounce it logos, but it's

  841. originally pronounced logos. It's the

  842. written word of God. The second is Rama.

  843. It's the spoken word of God. Say, speak.

  844. This is you opening your mouth and

  845. speaking

  846. the promises of God, laying claim to the

  847. truth of God, speaking out the written

  848. word of God, and look at your neighbor

  849. and say, "Get lippy."

  850. >> Man, I'm going to give the devil an

  851. earful.

  852. Not today, devil.

  853. >> Because the word of God says,

  854. >> "No weapon formed against me shall

  855. prosper." Get out of here, devil.

  856. If any man be in Christ, he's a new

  857. creation. The old things are passed

  858. away. Everything is new for me. Devil,

  859. I start swinging my sword around.

  860. Backing the devil up, taking ground for

  861. the kingdom.

  862. Ephesians 6:18, he says,

    Ephesians 6:18

  863. "Pray in the spirit

  864. at all times

  865. on every occasion."

  866. He says, "Stay alert and be persistent."

  867. Stay alert.

  868. Be persistent.

  869. It says, "Stay alert

  870. and be persistent

  871. in your prayers for all believers

  872. everywhere.

  873. Number one is the fight.

  874. Number two is the fit.

  875. Number three is the focus.

  876. Stay alert. Be on guard. Stand your

  877. ground. Keep watch.

  878. Stop being complacent

  879. like you're not in a war for your soul.

  880. Don't get too comfortable.

  881. Stand ready.

  882. And can I say this? Having the armor of

  883. God on, having the uniform on will deter

  884. the enemy of most battles.

  885. I wasn't always saved, right? I think

  886. about when I see a cop.

  887. You ever been somewhere and you don't

  888. even do anything wrong? You just like

  889. and then you see the uniform. He's

  890. walking through. He's got all the gear.

  891. He's like, you ever just like kind of

  892. like straighten up a little bit? It's

  893. like, wait, I'm not doing anything

  894. wrong, am I? But there's a uniform

  895. there.

  896. Wearing the armor of God is like that in

  897. the spiritual realm. The devil's going

  898. to see you coming. You got up this

  899. morning and you put on the full armor of

  900. God. And now you're walking around in

  901. the spiritual realm and the devils are

  902. fleeing at your very presence.

  903. The devil's waiting to find you, a

  904. soldier without your armor.

  905. And trust me, he'll pounce.

  906. Stand ready.

  907. The armor stands for something.

  908. When you see military

  909. in their uniform, you know who they

  910. belong to. You know which team they're

  911. on.

  912. When you mess with one, you mess with

  913. the entire army.

  914. >> Amen.

  915. >> Enemy messing with me. Got my armor on.

  916. Say, "Devil, you can mess with me if you

  917. want, but you're not just messing with

  918. me. You're messing with us."

  919. He says, "Pray, be persistent in praying

  920. for all believers everywhere." Man,

  921. we're we're in this thing together.

  922. Devil, if you mess with me too much,

  923. watch out. Don't make me call my

  924. commander.

  925. Don't make me start calling on Jesus,

  926. cuz I will, devil.

  927. Amen.

  928. Romans 16:20.

    Romans 16:20

  929. The God of peace, catch this, the God of

  930. peace will soon crush Satan under your

  931. feet.

  932. Those are fighting words.

  933. Those are fighting words right in your

  934. Bible.

  935. How many know the battle's already won?

  936. Stay alert.

  937. be on guard.

  938. Sometimes

  939. we're in the opposition. We're in the

  940. struggle.

  941. My shield of faith says soon God's going

  942. to show up and crush Satan under his

  943. feet.

  944. It's the fight, the fit, and the focus.

  945. Your identity in Christ

  946. isn't just a status.

  947. It's an assignment.

  948. God didn't put you in spiritual armor

  949. uniform

  950. so that you can walk through a parade.

  951. He put you in armor so that you can

  952. fight a war.

  953. Every assignment has opposition.

  954. We've been grafted

  955. into the family business.

  956. The family business is spiritual

  957. warfare.

  958. Church, I want you to hear me. You are

  959. not a victim in this fight. You're the

  960. victor.

  961. You're not a victim in this fight. It's

  962. not, oh, oh, the devil's after me again.

  963. Put on your armor.

  964. Stay alert.

  965. You're the victor.

  966. The question is not if you're in a

  967. fight.

  968. The question is, are you dressed for it?

  969. Are you dressed for it? Have you put on

  970. your armor?

  971. Romans 13:11 says,

    Romans 13:11

  972. you know, the time that the hour has

  973. come for you to wake from sleep.

  974. Paul's saying, "Christians, stop hitting

  975. the spiritual snooze button."

  976. Anyone in here the snooze button morning

  977. people, the rest of us don't like you.

  978. [crying]

  979. [laughter]

  980. Why is most marriages there's one

  981. snoozer and one not?

  982. The alarm keeps going off.

  983. Can I tell honest? Hun.

  984. Hun, please turn it off.

  985. It's the third time. Please.

  986. [laughter]

  987. And I like having family around. I can

  988. call everyone out.

  989. Spiritual realm. Stop hitting the snooze

  990. button.

  991. Get up before the alarm.

  992. Have your feet on the ground. Be dressed

  993. and ready for battle.

  994. Be alert

  995. because your groom is coming back for a

  996. bride.

  997. not a sleeping beauty.

  998. The devil will probably not fight you

  999. with your armor on, but let me tell you

1000. personal experience and what I've seen.

1001. The devil masquerades as an angel of

1002. light, the Bible says, and you'll have

  1003. your armor on.

1004. Be ready for the fight,

1005. but the devil will probably come and

  1006. befriend you.

1007. And after some time, he'll convince you

1008. or trick you into taking off some of

1009. your armor, and then he'll pounce.

  1010. Don't be complacent.

1011. Put your armor on. Keep it on. And be

1012. ready. You're a soldier on active duty

  1013. 24/7

1014. in your home, on your job,

  1015. in your school.

  1016. You're grafted in. That's your DNA.

  1017. You're betrothed.

  1018. That's your devotion.

  1019. And you're a soldier.

  1020. That's your duty.

1021. I'm going to ask the worship team to

  1022. join me up here.

  1023. Someone in here,

1024. I believe, came in feeling defeated,

1025. feeling a little beat up in the battle

  1026. that you're faced with.

1027. Some of you might not not even have

  1028. known that you're in a fight.

1029. I'm here here to tell you

1030. that you are the victor today. The blood

  1031. of Jesus Christ

1032. cleanses you and equips you to be more

  1033. than a conqueror.

1034. Someone in here, maybe you've never said

  1035. yes

1036. to the proposal to being grafted in and

1037. in this covenant with God.

1038. Maybe today your day to enlist

1039. in a spiritual army called Christian.

1040. We stand to our feet all over this

  1041. house.

1042. In a moment, I'm going to pray.

1043. Wherever you're at in your battle,

1044. wherever you're at in the spiritual

1045. realm, let today be the day that you

1046. suit up and move forward.

  1047. And so, as we're

1048. as I'm praying, as we're entering into

1049. worship, would you do business with God?

1050. Would you speak to God? And

1051. if you need to confess or ask for

1052. forgiveness for not putting off the

1053. armor, the clothes of darkness.

  1054. If you're evaluating and you're going,

1055. "Man, I don't think I have all the armor

1060. If you haven't given your life to

  1061. Christ,

1062. you don't have to follow a preacher in

  1063. some special prayer,

1064. but in this moment, would you do

1065. business with God and just tell God

1066. that I receive you and I love you

1067. and I'm ready to be in the army. I'm

  1068. ready to move forward.

1069. Father, I thank you, Lord,

1070. for your Holy Spirit. Father, I thank

1072. being loosened on the inside of every

  1073. soul,

1074. God, that we would live our spiritual

1075. life with vigor and passion and your

  1076. power,

1077. God, that we would be suited up in the

  1078. spiritual realm.

1079. Father, help us to be well equipped

  1080. with our sword.

1081. Father, I thank you, Lord, that you have

1082. called us for such a time as this

1083. to allow your kingdom of light to push

1084. back the kingdom of darkness.

1085. Father, I thank you for stirring us

1086. today. I pray that every soul does
