  3. >> How's everyone doing this Memorial Day

  4. weekend?

  5. Y'all came to church, so you're like the

  6. holy people.

  7. Good to see everybody. I want to take

  8. you to uh Joshua.

  9. Let's just get right down to it today.

  10. Joshua 24.

  11. And let me pray before we get into this.

  12. Father, thank you

  13. for the opportunity

  14. to look at your word and to hear from

  15. you. And God, I just pray that

  16. everything that is not of you, every

  17. distraction, every hindrance would be

  18. stripped away right now.

  19. That your word would find its mark

  20. in the people's hearts, and that it

  21. would change us from the inside out.

  22. Give us ears to hear

  23. what the Spirit is saying to the church

  24. this morning.

  25. Amen.

  26. So, Joshua 24

    Joshua 24:14

  27. verse 14 and 15. Now, therefore, fear

  28. the Lord.

  29. Serve him in sincerity

  30. and in truth, and put away the gods

  31. which your fathers served on the other

  32. side of the river and in Egypt. Serve

  33. the Lord.

  34. And if this seems evil or wrong to you

  35. to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves

  36. this day

  37. whom you will serve.

  38. Whether the gods which your fathers

  39. served that were on the other side of

  40. the river or the gods of the Amorites in

  41. whose land you dwell.

  42. But as for me and my house,

  43. we will serve the Lord.

  44. >> [clears throat]

  45. >> I wonder if anyone's made their mind up

  46. that as for me

  47. and my house,

  48. we're going to serve the Lord.

  49. The jury's not out anymore. There's no

  50. more debate. There's no more research.

  51. It's just a done deal. I just wonder if

  52. there's anybody like that in here that

  53. just says, "I'm going with Jesus all the

  54. way."

  55. You know, it's important to know not

  56. only what was said, but who said it.

  57. And so, I want to kind of take you into

  58. the writer of this particular passage or

  59. the story that it's about is Joshua.

  60. A young man who is now an old man, but

  61. he was a young man during the Exodus.

  62. He was there

  63. in the bondage of the Hebrews in Egypt.

  64. He was there during the plagues. He was

  65. there during the Red Sea crossing. He

  66. was there for 40 years wandering

  67. aimlessly with his generation which

  68. simply lacked the faith to take the next

  69. step and go into the promised land.

  70. He had spent half of his life going in

  71. circles,

  72. hanging out with people that weren't

  73. going anywhere.

  74. I wonder if it's time for some of us to

  75. get away from a generation that is not

  76. willing to go after God.

  77. That you've been through enough and seen

  78. enough and realized that they're not

  79. going anywhere and I don't have time for

  80. these jokers. And so, as for me and my

  81. house,

  82. we're going to serve the Lord.

  83. There is always

  84. a pull towards the things of the world,

  85. towards

  86. modern opinions, towards science, and

  87. and things that would like to challenge

  88. the truth of God's word. And Joshua had

  89. seen all of it. He was also Moses'

  90. assistant. He was a young man who who

  91. came up and and actually held Moses'

  92. arms up during one of the first battles

  93. after the Exodus.

  94. And he went with Moses up into the

  95. mountain. He had seen some things.

  96. And he had heard this term before, no

  97. doubt, because when God called Moses in

  98. Exodus 3 out at the burning bush,

  99. God told Moses, "This is my sign to you.

  100. This is This is the one that that nobody

  101. else probably knew about." But God told

  102. Moses that those people are going to

  103. come and serve me at this mountain, the

  104. place where you're standing.

  105. Serve the Lord. And so, no doubt, Moses

  106. used those words frequently. We'll see

  107. it in the story we're about to look at

  108. in a little more detail. But I want to

  109. point out in verse 14 and 15, the verses

  110. we just read, seven times you see the

  111. word serve.

  112. Joshua isn't saying, "Hey, you should

  113. come to church with me. Hey, we should

  114. have a potluck. We should We should do

  115. some churchy events."

  116. He's saying,

  117. "I'm going to serve the Lord, and and

  118. you've got to choose for yourself. You

  119. may not be down with that. That's fine.

  120. You can serve the gods that everybody

  121. else is serving. But as for me and my

  122. house,

  123. we're going to serve the Lord."

  124. And so, I want to take you back to

  125. pieces of the Exodus, a place where

  126. Joshua had been. And again, now he's an

  127. old man. He would His death would be

  128. recorded in the later part of this

  129. chapter in Joshua 24. But he was there

  130. during all of the things we're about to

  131. talk about. And so, I want to bring you

  132. first to Exodus 3 verses 19 and 20

    Exodus 3:19

  133. and make this point.

  134. That the invitation of God brings

  135. opposition.

  136. Whenever God says to somebody, "Follow

  137. me." Whenever he tries to bring someone

  138. into the family of God, there is

  139. opposition.

  140. And so, this scripture says, this is God

  141. talking to Moses, but I am sure that the

  142. king of Egypt will not let you go, no,

  143. not even by a mighty hand.

  144. So I will stretch out my hand and strike

  145. Egypt with all my wonders which I will

  146. do in its midst, and after that, he will

  147. let you go.

  148. How would you like for your assignment

  149. to be, uh, go ahead and go do this and

  150. tell Pharaoh to let my people go, but

  151. he's not going to do it.

  152. How would you like to be sent on an

  153. assignment that you know is going to

  154. fail?

  155. I think of a man in the New Testament

  156. named named Stephen. He was a deacon,

  157. but he preached one sermon and they

  158. stoned him to death.

  159. One sermon, and you know you did a good

  160. job, but as soon as you're done, they're

  161. like, "Kill him!"

  162. And so Moses is is going knowing there's

  163. going to be opposition, but God said,

  164. "Look, because of the opposition, I'm

  165. going to I'm going to

  166. get involved, and in the end, then he'll

  167. let you go." So there's going to be some

  168. opposition. You have to know this

  169. if you're at all considering serving the

  170. Lord, or if you're already serving the

  171. Lord, that opposition just comes with

  172. the territory. Sometimes, that's how you

  173. know you're doing it right.

  174. And so Moses comes down with this

  175. message and he tells the Hebrews and

  176. they're like, "Sweet, this is awesome."

  177. And then he goes to Pharaoh and he's

  178. like, "Let these people go that they can

  179. sacrifice to me in the wilderness. We

  180. want to have a church service out in the

  181. woods."

  182. And Pharaoh's like, "Yeah, you got too

  183. much time on your hands, and so you need

  184. to get back to work, and you're going to

  185. have to find your own straw from now on.

  186. We're not We're not giving you the

  187. product anymore, but you still have to

  188. make the bricks."

  189. And so right away there was opposition.

  190. The Pharaoh's like, "No, I'm not doing

  191. it."

  192. And then there were the plagues.

  193. Let me Let me go ahead and throw this

  194. in, too.

  195. If you know the story, Moses had a sign

  196. of a staff

  197. that he could throw down and it would

  198. turn to a serpent.

  199. And so he did that in front of Pharaoh

  200. and Pharaoh was like

  201. My guys can do that and he calls his

  202. magicians and they do the same thing.

  203. And they were able to reproduce the

  204. first couple of things that God did

  205. because the enemy a lot of times wants

  206. you to think that what God is doing

  207. isn't real.

  208. So you get excited and you're like, man,

  209. this happened and this happened and

  210. that's got to be God and someone else

  211. comes along and is like, no, that's just

  212. coincidence.

  213. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

  214. And the devil tries to just make you

  215. think, no, that that's just that just

  216. happened. That's just life. It's just

  217. the way it happened. That's not God.

  218. What happens is is God progressively

  219. brings these plagues down and pretty

  220. soon the magicians can't duplicate it.

  221. And God makes it clear

  222. that he is involved in this situation

  223. and in this calling. And so the

  224. opposition continues and you may have

  225. heard of the 10 plagues of Egypt, but I

  226. want to point out that the 10 plagues

  227. were more than just God showing off.

  228. They were God jabbing It was God jabbing

  229. at the gods of Egypt.

  230. For instance, there was a plague

  231. of blood

  232. in the Nile River.

  233. And the Egyptians worshipped They had a

  234. goddess of the Nile River that they

  235. worshipped.

  236. There was a plague of frogs.

  237. And the Egyptians had a frog-headed

  238. goddess

  239. of fruitfulness.

  240. Now, I don't know. I read that and I

  241. just kind of get hung up on this

  242. frog-headed woman.

  243. I mean, can you imagine you're on the

  244. dating app, right? And

  245. and a frog-headed woman pops up

  246. and you swipe left really fast.

  247. By the way,

  248. this is completely off topic, but

  249. I think ugly people have an advantage

  250. in life.

  251. No, I've been thinking about this.

  252. I think ugly people have it better.

  253. Because you think about it, if you're

  254. ugly, you're just ugly and no one

  255. expects anything more and you just kind

  256. of go through life and

  257. right?

  258. But when you're beautiful,

  259. and if that's you, congratulations on

  260. your face,

  261. but understand change is going to come.

  262. And the Bible even says that beauty is

  263. passing.

  264. So, beautiful people have to, you know,

  265. they get all the attention and and

  266. people fall over to try to help them and

  267. things like that and then and then

  268. they're not as beautiful anymore and all

  269. that ends and so I just think ugly

  270. people have it better.

  271. And all the ugly people said, "No, I'm

  272. not going to do that."

  273. Leave that alone.

  274. And then there was a [clears throat]

  275. plague of plague of gnats and that was

  276. God's jab at their god of the earth,

  277. because the gnats came out of the dust

  278. of the earth and the Egyptians

  279. worshipped and I won't hit all of these,

  280. but they had uh Khepri was their

  281. beetle-headed god and so God sent the

  282. plague of flies and and all of these

  283. were jabs, if you dig if you dig into

  284. this and read on, it's very interesting.

  285. God was poking at every single one of

  286. the Egyptian gods and saying, "Yeah,

  287. your gods aren't gods at all."

  288. There was a plague of boils and and the

  289. Egyptians had Sekhmet, the goddess of

  290. healing and so God was was letting them

  291. know that you can't you can't stop God.

  292. There was a goddess of the sky in Egypt

  293. and so God sent hail.

  294. There was a god of the wind and so God

  295. sent locusts, a god of a god of uh the

  296. sun, the Ra was his name and so God sent

  297. a plague of darkness. Just just time

  298. after time after time letting the

  299. Egyptians know that you got nothing on

  300. me. Your gods are false and they're

  301. powerless.

  302. And finally,

  303. the the plague of the death of the

  304. firstborn.

  305. And this was going to hit Pharaoh's

  306. house himself, and Pharaoh, too, was

  307. considered to be a god.

  308. Not only that, but I'm reminded by how

  309. the Egyptians had at one point killed

  310. all the Hebrew baby boys.

  311. And now God comes for the Egyptian sons.

  312. So, God is just establishing that while

  313. there is opposition,

  314. there is nothing that can stop God from

  315. getting to a person and a person from

  316. getting to God. That the devil cannot

  317. stop you is what I'm trying to say.

  318. There is opposition, but it's really

  319. between God and the devil, and you have

  320. little to do with it.

  321. The battle is the Lord's.

  322. And God can handle any devil. So, don't

  323. confess and say things like the devil

  324. just won't let me make it to church. The

  325. devil just is stopping me from getting

  326. serious. It's not the devil doing that.

  327. He doesn't have the power unless you

  328. give him the power to do that. He cannot

  329. stop you. God is greater. Greater is he

  330. that is in you than he that is in the

  331. world.

  332. The devil is no match for my God.

  333. But there is opposition.

  334. Perhaps it's not so much the opposition

  335. of the devil that's stopping us,

  336. but this point

  337. that what you leave undone

  338. will be your undoing.

  339. What you neglect to deal with,

  340. what you allow yourself to compromise

  341. with. These are the things that will be

  342. your undoing. Don't blame it on the

  343. devil.

  344. When you're the one

  345. Come on, somebody.

  346. You're the one inviting that thing into

  347. your life and then you wonder why.

  348. Because what you leave undone will be

  349. your undoing. And so

  350. Pharaoh, realizing that God is greater

  351. begins to try to make deals with the

  352. Hebrews.

  353. And the devil will try to make deals

  354. with you. Exodus 8:25, this is deal

    Exodus 8:25

  355. number one. Pharaoh called for Moses and

  356. Aaron and said, "Go. Sacrifice to your

  357. God." Watch this. "In the land."

  358. Go ahead and sacrifice, but stay in

  359. Egypt.

  360. Go ahead and go to church.

  361. Go ahead and go to the men's Bible

  362. study, the the Tuesday morning cup of

  363. Joe women's Bible study. Go to the

  364. Wednesday prayer meetings with the

  365. staff. Go Go do all that. As long as you

  366. stay in Egypt, we're good.

  367. The devil doesn't mind us coming to

  368. church.

  369. As long as he can get you to compromise.

  370. Is anyone hearing what I'm saying? As

  371. long as he can keep you in Egypt. Like

  372. nothing changes. As long as nothing

  373. changes, you can get your Bible, your

  374. leather one with the ribbon hanging out

  375. of it and gold-edged pages, and you can

  376. put the Jesus bumper sticker on one side

  377. and the Grace Summit bumper sticker on

  378. the other. THE DEVIL DON'T MIND NONE of

  379. it as long as nothing changes in your

  380. life.

  381. And that'll only happen if you take the

  382. deal. Somebody say, "No deal."

  383. Deal number two. So Pharaoh said, Exodus

    Exodus 8:28

  384. 8:28, "I'll" Pharaoh didn't say Exodus

    Exodus 8:28

  385. 8:28. That was just the address. I just

  386. got out of sequence there.

  387. Don't want to confuse you.

  388. So, Pharaoh said, "I will let you go

  389. that you may sacrifice to the Lord your

  390. God in the wilderness. All right, we're

  391. going to let you out of Egypt only

  392. don't go very far."

  393. Can't you hear the devil saying,

  394. "Go,

  395. but don't get too carried away.

  396. As long as you keep coming back,

  397. we're good. We have an understanding."

  398. Don't Don't be one of these radical,

  399. flamboyant Jesus freaks. Just do the

  400. church thing, do the devotional thing,

  401. read, pray, do all that we It's okay as

  402. long as you keep coming back.

  403. And there are people that just have gone

  404. in a cycle.

  405. A cycle. They love They go after God.

  406. They're passionate about it, but the

  407. devil just keeps sucking them right back

  408. to their default.

  409. And they're stuck. And as long as you're

  410. stuck there through compromise, again,

  411. through not letting God into those areas

  412. that he wants to free you from,

  413. what you leave undone, that will be your

  414. undoing.

  415. Somebody say, "No deal."

  416. They said no deal again, so deal number

  417. three. Exodus 10:11. And here the

    Exodus 10:11

  418. terminology changes. Go now, you who are

  419. men,

  420. and serve the Lord. Now, the the first

  421. two deals he said go sacrifice to the

  422. Lord. Now he's saying serve the Lord.

  423. He's realizing these Hebrews are not

  424. about to compromise and just just, you

  425. know, go to uh a group sacrifice, which

  426. is what that meant. Just everybody come

  427. together, we're going to have a

  428. sacrifice, and we'll go home.

  429. They're like, "No, we're going to serve

  430. the Lord." And so, Pharaoh's like, "Go

  431. ahead, fine. Serve the Lord, okay?

  432. Just

  433. leave your flocks and your No,

  434. uh just the men.

  435. And leave the rest of your families

  436. back.

  437. So, just the men. As long as As long AS

  438. IT'S JUST THE men that are serious in

  439. serving God, and they're not affecting

  440. anyone in their household.

  441. Where is Dennis? I'm about to start

  442. preaching.

  443. I feel it.

  444. As long as you're not affecting anyone

  445. else, and it's just you.

  446. That's a compromise.

  447. Listen, you can't serve God and not

  448. affect other people.

  449. Well, I'm just not I'm not assertive

  450. like that, and I don't want to be I

  451. don't want to be taken as judgemental,

  452. or but you can't serve Jesus and not

  453. cause division sometimes. Jesus himself

  454. said that he came to divide families,

  455. and divide groups and friends. He The

  456. gospel is going to divide sometimes. I'm

  457. not saying be a jerk, and be mean and

  458. judgemental and critical. I'm saying if

  459. you are a Christian, you are your light

  460. is going to shine, and you can't hide

  461. that.

  462. So, just the men is just like, "Well,

  463. I'm going to go to to men's Bible study,

  464. Pastor Jack, and we're going to we're

  465. going to do the pursuit thing.

  466. And we're going to uh

  467. Actually, we graduated from donuts to

  468. biscuits and gravy, and and I hear

  469. there's a taco bar, or a breakfast

  470. burrito bar, or something coming up. So,

  471. I'm going to the men's thing. Just the

  472. men. Just the men." But, guys, don't

  473. take it home.

  474. And as long as you accept that deal,

  475. you've entered into compromise. That's

  476. what's going to keep you stuck.

  477. No deal.

  478. No deal. No deal.

  479. Then there's a fourth and final deal

  480. that is offered.

  481. And then Pharaoh called to Moses and

  482. said, "Go. Serve the Lord." He's getting

  483. frustrated. The devil gets frustrated

  484. with you

  485. when you refuse TO COMPROMISE.

  486. OH, THAT MAKES HIM MAD.

  487. Cuz cuz a lot of us just Oh, okay.

  488. Everybody else is doing it.

  489. People at the church do I guess it's

  490. okay.

  491. Huh?

  492. And as long as we're like that, the

  493. devil ain't bothered. But if you IF

  494. YOU'RE LIKE, "NO, as for me and my

  495. house, we're going to serve the Lord.

  496. We're going to serve him with passion.

  497. We're going to serve him where where it

  498. messes our life up and it changes the

  499. way we talk and it changes the way we

  500. act and it changes the way we do our

  501. taxes and handle our money and our work

  502. ethic and and our marriage and every

  503. part of our life is going to get messed

  504. up." The devil gets mad at you when you

  505. start having that kind of disposition.

  506. So, he offers one final deal.

  507. And he says, "Go serve the Lord. Go.

  508. Only

  509. let your flocks and your herds be kept

  510. back.

  511. You can take your kids, too.

  512. Your little ones also can go.

  513. Go ahead.

  514. But leave your stuff.

  515. After all, you worked hard for that

  516. stuff.

  517. Right?

  518. Tithing. What was she talking about this

  519. morning? Tithing.

  520. Uh, it got quiet in here.

  521. Tithe and offerings.

  522. Can't afford it.

  523. Maybe if you sold one of the four cars

  524. you got, you could afford it.

  525. >> [laughter]

  526. >> Y'all are never going to invite me back.

  527. Um

  528. Well, it's all right.

  529. Just leave your stuff.

  530. You know, just

  531. hang on to your possessions.

  532. Don't serve But you can't serve God and

  533. money.

  534. You'll only be loyal to one or the

  535. other.

  536. Oh, the church just wants my money. No.

  537. Church doesn't want your money. God

  538. wants your obedience. God wants to see

  539. your faith in action so that he knows if

  540. he can trust you

  541. with what he has in store for you. But

  542. as long as you compromise on that issue,

  543. what you've left undone, that's going to

  544. be your undoing.

  545. Don't blame it on the devil.

  546. Is anybody listening this morning?

  547. All right.

  548. And then finally, the third thing I want

  549. to say out of this story is that the way

  550. out

  551. is under

  552. the blood.

  553. And they shall take some of the blood

  554. and put it on the two doorposts and on

  555. the lintel or the top of the door of the

  556. houses where they eat it.

  557. Now, the blood shall be a sign for you

  558. in the houses where you are. And when I

  559. see the blood, I will pass over you.

  560. And the plague shall not be on you to

  561. destroy you when I strike the land of

  562. Egypt. The way out

  563. is under.

  564. And so,

  565. the final plague comes and right before

  566. it hits where the death of the firstborn

  567. in all of Egypt hits, God says, "I want

  568. you to take a lamb.

  569. I want you to slaughter it. I want you

  570. to take the blood.

  571. I want you to put it on the doorpost and

  572. the top of the door.

  573. And when I see that blood,

  574. I'll pass over."

  575. So, they put the blood on the doorposts

  576. this way

  577. and the top of the door this way,

  578. kind of like a cross.

  579. The Bible is full of types and shadows

  580. and here is one of the cross of Christ

  581. and God is that the lamb had been

  582. slaughtered and its blood put in the

  583. shape of a cross and God said if you'll

  584. do that by faith

  585. cuz that seems like a strange thing to

  586. do.

  587. But if you'll do that

  588. when the last plague comes through, it

  589. won't touch you.

  590. Judgement won't touch you if you're

  591. under the blood.

  592. So they did this and when the death

  593. angel come, I want you to notice he

  594. didn't come to the houses and knock and

  595. say, "Hey, I see you have the blood on

  596. your house.

  597. But I'd like to kind of just interview

  598. you briefly if that's okay before we

  599. move on to the next house.

  600. What is your understanding of the

  601. doctrine of justification by faith?

  602. Have you lived a morally excellent life

  603. recently?

  604. Do you know the names of the 12

  605. disciples?

  606. No? Sorry, blood ain't going to count.

  607. God didn't do that. There was no

  608. interview. There was no questioning.

  609. There was no looking inside the house.

  610. The house that had the blood was

  611. covered. Somebody say, "I'm covered."

  612. I'm under the blood. That's why the old

  613. song writer said, "What can wash away my

  614. sin? Nothing but the blood of Jesus."

  615. WHAT CAN MAKE ME WHOLE AGAIN? NOTHING

  616. but the blood of Jesus.

  617. And another writer

  618. said, "My sin, oh the bliss of this

  619. blessed thought. My sin, not in part but

  620. the whole is nailed to the cross and I

  621. bear it no more.

  622. Praise the Lord. Praise the Lord, oh my

  623. soul. It's the blood and you need to get

  624. under the blood to be safe. You need to

  625. get under the blood to be forgiven, to

  626. be protected, to avoid judgment. It's

  627. the blood. It's not your merits. It's

  628. not your good deeds. It's not how how

  629. well you've performed. It's the blood.

  630. And so there are people, and you need to

  631. hear this, there are people that have

  632. been trying to get over something.

  633. Like, I'm really struggling, pastor. I'm

  634. really just trying to get over this. And

  635. and so I go to to other Christians and

  636. they say, "Well, pray about it."

  637. Which is a nice way of saying get over

  638. it.

  639. I've heard this said. We Our pastor used

  640. to say this. Go to Menards and get a

  641. ladder and get over it.

  642. But maybe we need to not get over it.

  643. Maybe we need to get under it.

  644. Maybe we need to bring whatever that

  645. thing is

  646. and put it up under the blood.

  647. Maybe it's the compromises of the past.

  648. Maybe it's the decisions you've made and

  649. and God is beginning to reveal to you

  650. that that's the problem. That's what's

  651. got you stuck, and you need to just

  652. bring IT AND STOP FIGHTING IT in your

  653. own strength and put IT UNDER THE BLOOD.

  654. THE BLOOD IS POWERFUL ENOUGH.

  655. WHEN GOD SEES THAT BLOOD, HE'S LIKE,

  656. "They're good."

  657. And you know WHAT HE SAID THE NEW

  658. covenant is? Your sins and iniquities he

  659. remembers no more.

  660. So your prayer life looks like, "God,

  661. please forgive me. I did it again." And

  662. God's like, "I don't know what you're

  663. talking about."

  664. There's blood on your door.

  665. Huh?

  666. But God, I just feel I'm so guilty cuz I

  667. just can't seem to break free. And I'm

  668. doing And And God's like,

  669. I don't know what you're talking about.

  670. As far as the east is from the west, so

  671. far has he removed our transgression

  672. when you're under the blood.

  673. Somebody say the blood.

  674. Yeah, we're not taking the deals of the

  675. devil. We're getting up under the blood.

  676. And God told Moses one other thing way

  677. back in Exodus 3 that I think translates

  678. here and and Joshua no doubt saw it.

  679. He said, "When they come out of there,

  680. they won't be empty-handed."

  681. It's not just that that you went through

  682. all these things and it was hard and it

  683. was terrible and then God delivered you

  684. and you got the battle scars and you and

  685. you made it.

  686. It's not just like that, but God said,

  687. "You're not coming out of there

  688. empty-handed."

  689. Now, I know that was, you know, the

  690. jewelry and the gold and the stuff the

  691. Egyptians were giving them on the way

  692. out. They're like, "Here, take it."

  693. But I think you come out with something

  694. else, too. When God has delivered you,

  695. when God has brought you through some

  696. stuff, when you bumped your head against

  697. the wall spiritually time and again and

  698. you finally get it and you submit to God

  699. and you say, "AS FOR ME AND MY HOUSE,

  700. WE'RE GOING TO SERVE THE LORD."

  701. You got something, my friend. You got

  702. something on the inside. You got a

  703. passion that you can't get any other

  704. kind of way. Come on, somebody. YOU GOT

  705. YOU GOT JOY INSIDE OF YOU CUZ YOU KNOW

  706. WHERE YOU CAME FROM AND YOU KNOW WHERE

  707. YOU'RE HEADED and God brought you out of

  708. all of it.

  709. You're not empty-handed.

  710. Don't go through life I was molested as

  711. a kid and then I was abused and some of

  712. this is my real story. You know, I was

  713. abused and then I was I was adopted. My

  714. own mother didn't want me. I was

  715. abandoned. I got all these issues.

  716. No. What it is is I'm not empty-handed.

  717. I got a story to tell. Let me tell you,

  718. not just what all I've been through, but

  719. what God has done for me.

  720. >> [applause]

  721. [music]

  722. >> And when you look at all of that, then

  723. you realize

  724. there's no plan B.

  725. You're either in

  726. or you're out.

  727. Serve the Lord.

  728. Serve him with your whole heart. Serve

  729. him with gladness.

  730. God is awesome.

  731. Has he brought anyone in this room

  732. through some stuff and you would testify

  733. God is good.

  734. Man, if he hadn't intervened, I'd be

  735. dead. Again and again, I could tell you

  736. stories. I know I would be, but God in

  737. his mercy and in his love came looking

  738. for me and he came looking for you and

  739. he said, "All you got to do is get up

  740. under that blood.

  741. Don't worry about the devil. Just don't

  742. compromise. Take it seriously. Don't

  743. just go to church. Serve the Lord and

  744. you're going to be all right."

  745. And my wife and I are getting reminded

  746. recently again and again just how frail

  747. life is.

  748. It's like a vapor.

  749. We were at a funeral

  750. last week [music]

  751. for a 7-year-old.

  752. It's a vapor.

  753. You may live to be 80, 90. Art was 104

  754. years old, served in World War II.

  755. That was a bad dude.

  756. You sit right here

  757. faithfully.

  758. But the Lord called him home and the

  759. Lord's going to call all of us home. So,

  760. in the meantime,

  761. why not serve the Lord?

  762. Why not choose

  763. this day.

  764. As for me and my house, now I got to

  765. explain this. That doesn't mean that you

  766. can save your house.

  767. I can't save anybody else,

  768. but it does mean where you have

  769. influence.

  770. If you come to my house, the blood's up

  771. on the door.

  772. We're up under the blood.

  773. You have to choose for yourself, but

  774. my influence for those around me and

  775. those closest to me, if nothing else to

  776. intercede for them.

  777. To pray for your your kids, your loved

  778. ones, your spouses, whoever it is.

  779. As for me and my house,

  780. we're going to serve the Lord cuz this

  781. this life

  782. goes so quick.

  783. And little Cayden at 7 years old

  784. drew a picture

  785. of his heaven home.

  786. Yeah, he got it.

  787. He understood what a lot of us act like

  788. is never going to happen. He understood.

  789. I'm going to be with

  790. his best friend, he said.

  791. So, as the worship team comes and

  792. there'll be a prayer team [music] up

  793. here if you'd like prayer today, but I

  794. just want to pray and then I'm going to

  795. sit down.

  796. I don't know if you've chosen.

  797. You say, "Yeah, I just don't want to

  798. choose that right now."

  799. Not ready to

  800. choose the Lord.

  801. Remember this, indecision is a decision.

  802. Indecision is as good as saying no.

  803. And you can do that.

  804. It breaks our heart.

  805. It breaks God's heart, but you can

  806. choose that.

  807. I just don't understand how anyone would

  808. not want to serve a God

  809. like ours

  810. who raises us up out of

  811. the ash heap.

  812. Makes our life worth living.

  813. Can

  814. do things in you that no doctor or no

  815. medication ever could.

  816. And Father,

  817. >> [music]

  818. >> I pray for everyone in this room,

  819. everyone online,

  820. that if they've never

  821. responded to your invitation, [music]

  822. that even now they would just open their

  823. hearts to you.

  824. And if that's you, would you just open

  825. your heart right where you are and just

  826. just

  827. ask Jesus in your heart

  828. to forgive you, to come into your life,

  829. that

  830. that the blood would be applied, the

  831. blood of Jesus,

  832. the son of God, the lamb which takes

  833. away the sin of the world,

  834. that that blood would be applied to your

  835. life and that you could start a

  836. relationship with him.

  837. Would you just invite him? And would you

  838. just say, "Jesus, [music] as for me and

  839. my house, I choose to serve the Lord."

  840. Father, may this word

  841. linger in us.

  842. May it produce what it was sent to do

  843. and may many come to know you and to

  844. deepen their relationship with you

  845. >> [music]

  846. >> because of it.

  847. Watch over your word to perform it, God.

  848. In Jesus' name.

  849. Amen.
