  1. Hey,

  2. Heat.

  3. Hey, heat. Hey, heat.

  4. Hallelujah.

  5. >> Hey, it's me again.

  6. >> Hi

  7. Is my microphone on this time?

  8. >> No.

  9. >> Yes. No.

  10. >> It's on, but it's low.

  11. >> Okay. If you're watching on live stream,

  12. hey, hang with us.

  13. >> Okay, we're good to go. Hey, praise the

  14. Lord. It is good to be in the house of

  15. God. Amen.

  16. >> Amen. We're uh we're continuing our

  17. series today on real Christianity. Uh

  18. how many in here want to be a real

  19. Christian?

  20. >> Well, that's good news. How many want to

  21. be a fake Christian?

  22. >> Don't raise your hand.

  23. Hey, we are hungry for real

  24. Christianity. Um, my heart is that uh I

  25. want it to count for heaven. Amen. I

  26. don't want to be caught in a system of

  27. Christianity or a program of

  28. Christianity, a watered down American

  29. version of a Christian Christianity,

  30. but my heart is to be a real Christian.

  31. So, we're going to dig into that today.

  32. Would you pray with me? Father, I thank

  33. you Lord for revival breaking loose on

  34. the inside of every soul in this room.

  35. Father, personal revival by the power of

  36. your spirit. Lord, I thank you God for

  37. an anointing in this house for the

  38. preaching of your word. Father, I thank

  39. you God that you speak to every soul.

  40. Help us in our heart to have eyes to see

  41. and ears to hear what your spirit is

  42. saying. Father, bless our time together.

  43. We pray in Jesus name.

  44. >> Amen. I I want to talk about our memory

  45. today. Uh more than just our natural

  46. memory, but more so our spiritual

  47. memory. And we're going to be in

  48. Deuteronomy 8. And man, I'm going Old

  49. Testament on you.

  50. >> You guys ready for some Old Testament?

  51. >> Some Deuteronomy.

  52. >> Deuteronomy chapter 8 11.

    Deuteronomy 8 chapter mention

  53. Before I read, by the way, my name is

  54. Ben. I'm the lead pastor here.

  55. >> If you're a guest with us,

  56. >> love you. We're glad you're here and I

  57. hope to be able to shake your hand after

  58. service. Um, you've stepped into one of

  59. the greatest churches in the world.

  60. >> Amen.

  61. >> Deuteronomy 8 and 11.

  62. But that is the time to be careful. Say

  63. careful.

  64. >> Careful.

  65. >> It says, "Beware that in your plenty you

  66. do not forget the Lord your God.

  67. Beware that in your plenty you do not

  68. forget the Lord your God and disobey his

  69. commands, his regulations and decrees

  70. that I'm giving you today.

  71. When you have become full and prosperous

  72. and have built fine homes to live in,

  73. and when your flocks and herds have

  74. become very large, and your silver and

  75. gold have multiplied along with

  76. everything else, be careful.

  77. Do not become proud at that time and

  78. forget the Lord your God who rescued you

  79. from slavery in the land of Egypt. Do

  80. not forget that he led you through the

  81. great and terrifying wilderness with its

  82. poisonous snakes and scorpions where it

  83. was so hot and dry. He gave you water

  84. from the rock. He fed you with mana in

  85. the wilderness, a food unknown to your

  86. ancestors. He did this to humble you and

  87. test you for your own good.

  88. Listen to verse 17.

  89. He says he did all this so you would

  90. never say to yourself, "I have achieved

  91. this wealth with my own strength and

  92. energy."

  93. Remember the Lord your God. He is the

  94. one who gives you power to be successful

  95. in order to fulfill the covenant he

  96. confirmed to your ancestors

  97. with an oath.

  98. In Deuteronomy 8, we're kind of picking

  99. up in a scene where God's people, God's

  100. chosen people, are about to enter the

  101. promised land, but they've been through

  102. quite a journey to get there. And over

  103. and over, God is saying, "Remember,

  104. don't forget, look back. Know where your

  105. strength comes from. Know where your

  106. hope comes from." Because there's this

  107. thing that happens in humanity, when

  108. everything is good. When everything is

  109. cupcakes and cotton candy,

  110. we tend to forget.

  111. We tend to forget.

  112. speaking to his people about to

  113. cross over

  114. into the most anticipated land of their

  115. lives, of their generation, the promised

  116. land. He's not speaking to them in the

  117. middle of the storm, but he's speaking

  118. to them in the middle of success.

  119. I don't know about you guys, but I

  120. believe that we are living in the most

  121. spoiled generation ever to have lived on

  122. the planet Earth.

  123. the things that we get on social media

  124. and complain about the audacity we have

  125. to be ungrateful.

  126. >> Amen.

  127. >> The danger

  128. in your plenty is that you forget your

  129. provider.

  130. The danger in your plenty is that you

  131. forget your provider. Uh when life gets

  132. good, man, often times our memory gets

  133. bad.

  134. Real Christianity.

  135. Real Christianity. It's more than cotton

  136. candy. This month, man, we're just

  137. running on sugar and Jesus. Amen.

  138. >> Sugar and Jesus. Wednesday night in uh

  139. Rooted. For those of you that don't

  140. know, our rooted is a incredible

  141. disciplehip experience uh that several I

  142. think we have 36 running through that

  143. right now and about to graduate this

  144. coming Wednesday night. But uh before we

  145. start Rud Group, uh each time we have

  146. some food and some fellowship and and uh

  147. Kelly Lee and I were just sitting there

  148. chatting and somehow we got talking

  149. about old candies that don't exist

  150. anymore. Hence the reason why we got old

  151. 100 grand bars handed out. And uh man,

  152. we were reminiscing a little bit about

  153. some of the old candies. Look at that.

  154. It's peeking out. So, I brought some.

  155. >> Hallelujah. Look at this.

  156. Look at this. I got circus peanuts. You

  157. guys remember these old

  158. >> Yeah. And they're just as hard and

  159. styrofoamy as I remember.

  160. >> Yeah, man. We got We got some stuff.

  161. They still sell some of this today.

  162. Sugar babies and dots. My goodness. We

  163. got We got Mike and I. You know what

  164. this is? This is the Mega Mix. I don't

  165. remember the Mega Mix in the 80s. Do you

  166. guys? Oh my goodness. Some Mike and I.

  167. Carla, you need these.

  168. >> Boom.

  169. >> Yeah. Some hot tamales.

  170. >> Of course, the 100 grand bars.

  171. >> I mean, where else? Listen, after you

  172. guys go home today, you got to say,

  173. "Hey, I got 100 grand at church today."

  174. All right.

  175. >> Then we got some stuff that's even older

  176. yet. This is

  177. >> These are old school.

  178. >> All right, boomers. Come on. Where are

  179. my boomers at?

  180. >> Yeah. Come on. Come on, Pastor Jack.

  181. That Do you want me to bring it to you,

  182. sir? Are you okay? Can you get up?

  183. >> Come. Come on, man. I even hit you in

  184. the hands with that one, baby. Come on.

  185. Go along.

  186. >> Excited.

  187. >> Yeah. And then uh bun.

  188. >> You know what? I didn't know this, but

  189. uh Kenny was telling me between

  190. services, these started in Fort Wayne.

  191. >> In 1947,

  192. >> and they used to be bigger than

  193. >> They used to be bigger.

  194. >> All right. Who wants the bun?

  195. >> All right. I don't know if I can get it

  196. to you.

  197. >> Yes.

  198. >> You know, it's funny. I couldn't find

  199. the candy cigarettes. Well, look at

  200. this. I got a candy a candy cigar.

  201. >> Oh, how times have changed. You can't

  202. get away with this stuff anymore, right?

  203. >> You guys know what I used to do when I

  204. was a kid? Anyone else do this? I'd take

  205. the candy cigarettes. I'd have my white

  206. t-shirt on and I'd roll them up in the

  207. sleeve. Yeah. I'd be like walking around

  208. like I was all cool.

  209. Eight-year-old with candy cigarettes in

  210. his sleeve.

  211. What in the world? Dating myself a

  212. little bit. Anybody want a bubblegum

  213. cigar

  214. there?

  215. >> Hey. Hey, don't don't smoke it in

  216. church. All right.

  217. >> Oh my gosh.

  218. >> I want to have a little fun with you

  219. guys

  220. >> today. Isn't it crazy uh how something

  221. that we love so much in the moment a lot

  222. of times we forget about today because

  223. it's out of sight, out of mind. I was

  224. thinking I got some sodas here. I was

  225. thinking about uh some sodas. Uh where

  226. where are my 80s and 90s kids at? You

  227. guys remember when they came out with

  228. Kick?

  229. >> Is that you? Oh my goodness. I knew

  230. somebody would cuz they we didn't have

  231. energy drinks yet. There was no energy

  232. drinks. No such thing. And so Kick was

  233. like this high octane soda with like

  234. extra caffeine. And me and my buddies

  235. would walk from school down to the store

  236. and we'd all think we were really cool

  237. with kicks. We'd be out there like

  238. chugging them like

  239. Oh my goodness.

  240. >> Jolt.

  241. >> Jolt. That was another one.

  242. >> Yeah.

  243. >> Jolt.

  244. >> Jolt. Man, I get down with some Jolt.

  245. >> I haven't had one in a hundred years,

  246. but

  247. >> Gosh, I'd probably drink it to now and

  248. be drink it now and be quivering and

  249. have a stomach ache.

  250. And I remember when I was a kid, uh,

  251. real young, I used to ride around with

  252. my dad in his truck and he always had

  253. the glass bottles of Mountain Dew.

  254. Couldn't find those. You can find Cokes,

  255. but you can't find Mountain Dew anymore.

  256. All right. And I mean, I always felt so

  257. big with that glass bottle between my

  258. legs. And uh I don't even drink much

  259. soda, hardly at all anymore. And I

  260. definitely don't drink Mountain Dew

  261. anymore. I got saved. I gave that stuff

  262. up, man.

  263. >> But I'm telling you, if I saw a glass

  264. bottle of Mountain Dew, it would

  265. instantly spark my memory. And I have

  266. good memories with my dad and that old

  267. truck riding around because I felt

  268. special. until I felt important, but I

  269. forget about it until I see a glass

  270. bottle of Mountain Dew.

  271. Out of sight, out of mind. Spiritually,

  272. often times,

  273. we do the same thing.

  274. We have these powerful spiritual moments

  275. with God, these breakthroughs, these

  276. answers to prayer.

  277. We loved what God did in the moment.

  278. Man, you ever had those moments where

  279. God just shows up, you shout, you cry,

  280. man, those services where you got the

  281. Holy Ghost goosebumps? Oh man, worship

  282. was lit today, right? It's power. Those

  283. powerful moments. But then we get busy.

  284. We go back to life and other things fill

  285. our view

  286. and what used to be our favorite

  287. testimony becomes a, "Oh yeah, I forgot

  288. about that.

  289. Oh yeah. Oh yeah. God did this m

  290. miraculous thing. And that's what we're

  291. reading about in Deuteronomy is that God

  292. did this miraculous things one after

  293. another after another and they just

  294. complained and then they forgot. And God

  295. is saying, "Hey, remember all of these

  296. landmark moments

  297. before you go in and in your plenty when

  298. God's taking good care of you, don't

  299. forget where he brought you from." Amen.

  300. Number one in your notes is that old

  301. favorites are today's amnesia.

  302. Today's amnesia.

  303. I like to read about the Hebrew

  304. children. One thing I keep noticing is

  305. that they have selective memory. They

  306. remind me of my teenagers.

  307. They have selective memory. I mean, God

  308. delivers them out of slavery, out of

  309. Egypt, uh with signs and wonders. I

  310. think about the 10 plagues and the the

  311. blood on the doorpost and uh I mean God

  312. was having fun with this stuff. He opens

  313. up the Red Sea like it's the doors at

  314. Walmart, you know. Come on. Stick with

  315. me, guys.

  316. >> They just start walking and the Red Sea

  317. just opens up and they just walk through

  318. on dry ground and then Pharaoh's army

  319. gets swallowed up by it.

  320. >> How do you forget this stuff? You know,

  321. h how do you get to a point where where

  322. they're in the wilderness and then

  323. they're they're crying out to God, "God,

  324. did you just bring us out here to die?"

  325. That's what they said. And then they're

  326. complaining about the menu.

  327. They go, "Man, back in Egypt, we had

  328. garlic and onions." And they're

  329. complaining about mana, which happens to

  330. be mysterious bread that fell out of

  331. heaven.

  332. What are we complaining about, guys?

  333. Amen. And man, I get an American

  334. Christianity and this is I'm guilty,

  335. right? I have some of the same stuff

  336. complain about.

  337. I think about flying, man. I like to

  338. travel.

  339. Airports can be a pain, can't they?

  340. >> They seem to be getting more expensive.

  341. But you ever been you go through TSA and

  342. then you're waiting in the you have a

  343. hold up and you walk up to the spot

  344. where it's like the ropes and there's a

  345. gazillion and a half people and you got

  346. to stand there with your bag and like go

  347. through and you can complain about it or

  348. if your flight's delayed,

  349. right? Can we just confess in church?

  350. That grinds me, you know, like I got

  351. places to go people to see, man. I don't

  352. want to be sitting here for two extra

  353. hours or whatever it is.

  354. >> And we complain. And what we forget is

  355. that in 2 hours I'm going to be sitting

  356. in a chair in the sky, moving 600 m an

  357. hour to my destination.

  358. Look at your neighbor and say, "You're

  359. spoiled."

  360. >> We are a spoiled generation.

  361. Spoiled generation.

  362. When life gets good, our memory gets

  363. bad. The Hebrew children forgot

  364. yesterday's deliverance to complain

  365. about today's menu.

  366. >> Man, I think about God, how big God is.

  367. And if he's actually at the home, he has

  368. our best interest at hand.

  369. >> He parted the Red Sea. I think he can

  370. figure out breakfast.

  371. >> Amen.

  372. >> Often we do the same thing.

  373. God healed us. God provided for us. God

  374. gave us that job, that home,

  375. that spouse, and then as soon as things

  376. get uncomfortable, we start acting like

  377. we've never seen God move or that God's

  378. never done one thing for us,

  379. we'll serve God for years, and God will

  380. be faithful for years. And we don't like

  381. the menu today, and we we scream at God,

  382. "Did you just bring us out here to die?"

  383. I'm telling you, the Hebrew children

  384. were drama queens.

  385. They were drama queens. Did you just

  386. bring us out here to die, God?

  387. We do the same thing. We stop being

  388. amazed

  389. by what used to make us cry.

  390. Spiritual amnesia.

  391. Spiritual

  392. amnesia. Here's what I've learned is

  393. that yesterday's miracles

  394. become today's minimum requirements.

  395. Somehow

  396. our memory works in other areas.

  397. We remember every offense with vivid

  398. detail.

  399. We forget about the miracles, the

  400. breakthroughs, the deliverances.

  401. We're so good at remembering what hurt

  402. us,

  403. but we forgot what held us that we got

  404. delivered out of the land of Egypt. We

  405. got delivered out of slavery.

  406. Now, let me make it plain to you.

  407. We remember who left

  408. and forget who's here,

  409. >> who stayed.

  410. So and so they did us wrong and they

  411. blah blah. And we we'll hold on to that

  412. emotion and that thought and that

  413. memory. And at the same time, we're

  414. forgetting about the faithful ones that

  415. have stayed in our life.

  416. We remember what broke and we forgot

  417. what God rebuilt.

  418. healing after healing after healing in

  419. our lives or just protection. God

  420. protects you from this, protects you

  421. from that. And one diagnosis from a

  422. doctor, we turn to God like God's never

  423. done one thing for us.

  424. >> My wife and I have said it over and

  425. over. We have faced a lot of

  426. impossible seasons, a lot of tragic

  427. seasons.

  428. And what God has put in our heart is

  429. that God didn't bring us this far just

  430. to leave us hanging.

  431. >> Amen.

  432. >> And come hell or high water, I'm going

  433. to serve him. I'm going to love him even

  434. when the diagnosis is bad. Even when the

  435. circumstance is bad, even when I don't I

  436. can't figure it out and even when I'm

  437. standing at the edge of the cliff and

  438. there's no other place to go, I'm just

  439. going to trust God. Amen. And I'm going

  440. to praise him in the storm. I'm going to

  441. praise him when I get up in the I'm just

  442. going to love God anyways. Amen. Amen.

  443. >> Forgetfulness is expensive.

  444. >> Forgetfulness is expensive. You can

  445. write this down if you're taking notes.

  446. Your faith fades when your memory fails.

  447. When I stand, you guys know this. Life

  448. happens. And when you're standing in

  449. that moment when life is coming at you

  450. or the devil's coming at you and all you

  451. do is allow yourself to see this moment

  452. and feel these feelings, you've lost.

  453. Amen. But when you can have a register

  454. of spiritual receipts

  455. that God, you saw us through this. God,

  456. you did this and that. You did this in

  457. that person's life. You can do it in

  458. mine. You're no respector of persons.

  459. Your faith fades when your memory fails.

  460. If you want faith that will stand the

  461. test of time and persevere

  462. through the next storm, you have to

  463. build a memory if what God has done

  464. consistently in your life.

  465. Spiritual amnesia. Number two in your

  466. notes is that receipts don't lie.

  467. Receipts don't lie. We're going to be in

  468. Colossians chapter 2.

    Colossians 2 chapter mention

  469. And while you're turning there, I need

  470. to have a time of confession.

  471. I have a bad memory.

  472. You guys awake today? I'm ready for the

  473. new uh new uh cafe so we can hand out

  474. espresso.

  475. >> Make sure you guys are matcha lattes,

  476. man. Let's get some of those.

  477. >> Give me a dirty chai. I want some

  478. espresso and some chai tea. My goodness.

  479. M by By the way, Pastor Dan, we need to

  480. go get some more espresso downtown.

  481. >> Cortado. Pastor Dan was quivering.

  482. Man,

  483. I I I have a confession, man. I have a

  484. memory problem. And uh my wife, not so

  485. much. Her memory's really sharp. And I

  486. live with four females. Um, and I don't

  487. know how their brains do what they do

  488. because they're that's a miracle in my

  489. eyes because they remember details that

  490. just wreck me. I mean, we'll have

  491. conversations like it was November 14th.

  492. I think it was like 4:38 p.m. you said.

  493. And I'm just like,

  494. what was I alive on November 14th? I

  495. have no clue.

  496. And Lincoln and I are so outnumbered in

  497. my house because the girls have all

  498. these memories of like detailed stuff.

  499. Then they're talking to Lincoln and I

  500. link and I will just look at each other

  501. like do do you remember I don't know I

  502. don't even know what we're talking about

  503. anymore because we're three stories in

  504. and they got all the memories and all

  505. the details and Lincoln and I are doing

  506. good just to show up in the moment man.

  507. Yeah.

  508. >> It's good.

  509. >> It's it's a bit of an issue, right? I'm

  510. praying for strength

  511. strength. Strength. Hallelujah. Stick

  512. with me, folks. Man, maybe I need to

  513. drink one of these Coke classics.

  514. >> I need some Mountain Dew.

  515. Yeah. I don't know, man. It's been a 20

  516. years since I've had a Mountain Dew,

  517. Pastor Dan.

  518. >> Still good.

  519. >> Is it

  520. still good?

  521. >> I quit drinking. I used to be addicted

  522. to it,

  523. >> didn't I? I'd take a mountain, a warm

  524. Mountain Dew in the shower with me in

  525. the morning.

  526. I blame my father. He got me started on

  527. this stuff.

  528. I quit drinking it. Yeah. Let no thing

  529. have mastery over you.

  530. >> Hallelujah. Where was I again?

  531. >> I don't know.

  532. >> I'm praying for strength in my memory.

  533. >> Yes.

  534. >> Because I forget a lot of stuff. What

  535. I've learned is that what I have to do

  536. is write stuff down. I'm so thankful for

  537. devices because now I can search through

  538. my notes and find when I was thinking

  539. about that and made that list. Um

  540. because what I used to do is we back in

  541. the days of paper and pen. You guys

  542. remember those days? So long ago,

  543. >> it's like so 2022. Seriously.

  544. No, I used to make I'd be like, "All

  545. right, I got to write this down cuz I

  546. know myself." So I'd make the list and

  547. then I'd forget where I put the list.

  548. Pass your jacket on it. Like man, I know

  549. that I put that somewhere. I'm doing

  550. good. Just to remember that I made a

  551. list.

  552. >> I have to write it down. I've put it in

  553. my phone. And uh man, we're kind of

  554. talking about receipts here. So, we're

  555. doing a little bit of spring clean up

  556. around my house. And and my wife, man,

  557. she's amazing. And uh we're we're

  558. decluttering

  559. and she made her way into my garage

  560. and she's like, "What are you not using?

  561. What can I sell on marketplace?" So, I'm

  562. going through and I'm like, "Yeah, I

  563. don't really use that anymore. I can get

  564. rid of this stuff, you know, it's just

  565. sitting there." And so she's going

  566. through and she's like, "Uh, well, how

  567. much should I ask for it?" I'm like, "I

  568. don't know." She goes, "Well, what did

  569. you pay for it?" I don't know.

  570. So, I have to go find the receipt if

  571. there is one that exists,

  572. >> right? And figure out what I paid for

  573. this thing. And how many know receipts

  574. don't lie,

  575. >> because I could sit there and try to

  576. rely on my own memory. Uh, I think I

  577. paid this. Didn't we buy this then? and

  578. all this stuff. And uh but man, when you

  579. got the receipt, you go, "Oh, here it

  580. is." Receipts don't lie.

  581. A receipt is proof the price that was

  582. paid.

  583. Receipt is proof of the price that was

  584. paid. Can I say this? The enemy loves to

  585. argue with you about your feelings, your

  586. thoughts, your victories, your failures.

  587. Oh man, he knows that he can mess with

  588. me because I can't remember nothing,

  589. right? And the enemy can can spin the

  590. story in such a way as for me to start

  591. to have a false memory about a past

  592. experience.

  593. I don't know if you've ever been

  594. toe-to-toe with the devil, but he likes

  595. to come after me. He likes to mess with

  596. me. He likes to manipulate me. The Bible

  597. says the devil masquerades as an angel

  598. of light. He'll come like he's the best

  599. news in the world

  600. and manipulate the story enough for me

  601. to forget about God.

  602. Let's read about receipts. Colossians

    Colossians 2 chapter mention

  603. chapter 2.

  604. Man, I asked you to turn there 20

  605. minutes ago. You guys still there?

  606. Colossians chapter 2 and verse 13

    Colossians 2 chapter mention

  607. says this. You were dead because of your

  608. sins and because your sinful nature was

  609. not yet cut away. Then God made you

  610. alive in Christ.

  611. For he forgave all your sins. Catch

  612. this. He canceled the record of the

  613. charges against us and took it away by

  614. nailing it to the cross. In this way, he

  615. disarmed the spiritual rulers and

  616. authorities.

  617. There's our receipt.

  618. The devil will come against you and you

  619. say, "I got a receipt." Uh, paid for,

  620. devil.

  621. >> Not pending.

  622. >> Not pending, devil. Bought and paid for,

  623. nailed to the cross. I am forgiven. The

  624. devil will come at you and say, "Well,

  625. you're still in bondage to Mountain

  626. Dew."

  627. You guys awake today?

  628. >> I am. And I go, "He who the Son sets

  629. free is free indeed. I have the fruit of

  630. the spirit, self-control." Amen.

  631. >> You're still in bondage. No, I'm not,

  632. devil. I've got the receipt. Let me show

  633. you what the receipt book looks like.

  634. >> There you go.

  635. >> Here's the receipt.

  636. >> Amen.

  637. H word of God is quick and powerful,

  638. sharper than any double-edged sword,

  639. piercing to the dividing, a sunder of

  640. spirit and soul, joint and marorrow to a

  641. discerner of the thoughts in the intents

  642. of the heart. This is the sword of the

  643. spirit. Amen.

  644. It's paid for. Last week, man, we did

  645. communion. Don't you guys enjoy

  646. communion? You know, it's not a it's not

  647. a ritual. It's really a spiritual proof

  648. of purchase. And what does Jesus say?

  649. What do we do? Remember, we remember. Do

  650. this in remembrance of me. Jesus said,

  651. it's a receipt that we look at that it's

  652. paid for.

  653. >> Amen.

  654. >> The broken body, the blood of Jesus

  655. Christ. And Jesus knew that old

  656. favorites would become today's amnesia.

  657. He knew that our human condition was

  658. spiritual forgetfulness. So he says,

  659. "Hey guys, do this often. Do this in

  660. remembrance of me so you don't forget.

  661. He's telling the Hebrew children in

  662. Deuteronomy that man, remember, tell the

  663. stories and and remember so you don't

  664. forget the goodness of God in your life

  665. when you're faced with life today.

  666. >> Amen.

  667. >> You can write this down if you're taking

  668. notes. When you forget his receipts, you

  669. doubt his resources.

  670. And receipts aren't just for you.

  671. It's good for my own faith to pull out

  672. receipts.

  673. I got to tell you, man, we're hanging

  674. out and rooted and hearing people's

  675. testimonies and stories. Hearing how God

  676. delivered them increases my faith. When

  677. they start pulling out the receipts of

  678. salvation and deliverance and miracles,

  679. I go, "Man, that's that's the goodness

  680. of God." Amen.

  681. >> That's the goodness of God. And I want

  682. to say this, start pulling your receipts

  683. out in public. Amen.

  684. >> You got a testimony. Psalm 105:1 says,

    Psalms 105:1

  685. "Oh, give thanks to the Lord. Call upon

  686. his name." Catch this. make known his

  687. deeds among the peoples.

  688. >> Make known his deeds among the peoples.

  689. Well, pastor, I can't quote chapter and

  690. verse like you do. I just I've never

  691. been to Bible school. I don't know if

  692. I'm qualified.

  693. You're qualified.

  694. >> You have a testimony.

  695. >> You've been saved.

  696. >> Amen.

  697. >> You've been healed. You've been

  698. delivered. Tell somebody about the

  699. goodness of God.

  700. >> Look at your neighbor and say, "I've got

  701. a receipt.

  702. >> I've got a receipt."

  703. >> And the interesting thing, I was kind of

  704. thinking about this receipts idea. We

  705. don't just get receipts when we receive

  706. something, when we make a purchase. But

  707. I also get receipts when I go to the

  708. bank and make a deposit.

  709. And my wife likes to see those.

  710. >> How much did you put in? Come on, girl.

  711. Number three in your notes

  712. is eternal deposits.

  713. Eternal deposits.

  714. And Jesus in Matthew 25, it kind of

  715. gives us a glimpse of heaven. Uh we get

  716. to kind of look in and and see. I I'll

  717. read it. It's very powerful. Jesus said

  718. uh then the king will say to those on

  719. his right come you who are blessed by my

  720. father inherit the kingdom prepared for

  721. you from the foundation of the world. He

  722. says this. He says when I was hungry

  723. you gave me food. I was thirsty you gave

  724. me drink. I was a stranger you welcomed

  725. me. I was naked and you clothed me. I

  726. was sick and you visited me. I was in

  727. prison and you came to me. Then the

  728. righteous will answer him, saying,

  729. 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and

  730. feed you? Or thirsty and give you a

  731. drink? Uh, when did we see you a

  732. stranger and welcome you or naked and

  733. clothe you? And when did we see you sick

  734. or in prison and visit you?

  735. And the king will answer them, truly I

  736. say to you, as you did it to one of the

  737. least of these, my brothers, you did it

  738. to me. I want us to reframe eternal

  739. deposits in our mindset. I want us to

  740. understand how every little thing

  741. matters to the king. How you said it,

  742. when you did it, how you did it. If it's

  743. for him, it counts. Amen.

  744. >> It's valuable.

  745. There is no deposit.

  746. Too small.

  747. You guys ever go to the bank, drop off

  748. some

  749. some bread? You know what I'm talking

  750. about? Drop some cash off and they got

  751. it wrong on the receipt.

  752. >> Yeah. You got to go back in and be like,

  753. uh, even if it's little, I'm like, whoa,

  754. whoa, whoa, whoa. Hey, you didn't get it

  755. right. I had to. Years ago, I went

  756. through the drive-thru and the lady did,

  757. there was several people. She did

  758. somebody else's deposit on mine and mine

  759. on hers. Mine was a lot bigger than that

  760. lady's. And I just circle right around.

  761. I think the girl almost got fired. The

  762. manager came out was like, "Oh,

  763. apologize." I'm like, "We just need to

  764. make this right." Right. Cuz every

  765. little bit counts.

  766. In Nehemiah chapter 3 is really one of

    Nehemiah 3 chapter mention

  767. those chapters that we we tend to skim

  768. through. You know, in Nehemiah's

  769. powerful story. He was a cup bearer for

  770. the king and then he had this burden uh

  771. to rebuild the wall in Jerusalem for

  772. God's temple uh that had been destroyed.

  773. And so he's just persistent and finally

  774. he gets permission to go and take some

  775. guys with him and and go rebuild the

  776. wall. And Nehemiah 3 kind of sounds like

  777. a holy construction report.

  778. And it's just going through and it says

  779. Elias the high priest, this is verse

  780. one, uh, and his fellow priests rebuilt

  781. the sheep gate. And it just goes

  782. through. Verse three talks about who did

  783. the fish gate. Verse six talks about uh,

  784. who did the old gate. Verse 13, the

  785. valley gate. We have the fountain gate,

  786. the water gate. In verse 26, the horse

  787. gate

  788. 29 is the east gate. I would have liked

  789. to have been part of rebuilding the

  790. eastern gate.

  791. That's where Jesus is going to return.

  792. Amen. But I want you guys to see verse

  793. 14 of Nehemiah 3.

  794. It says, "The dung gate

  795. was repaired by Melia,

  796. son of Raikab."

  797. The dung gate.

  798. >> We don't have to be too incredibly

  799. theological to understand what the dung

  800. gate is. Right.

  801. >> But just for funsies, I dug around a

  802. little bit. And I'm like, what was what

  803. was the dung gate? Right? Cuz I think I

  804. know, but I might just be an American in

  805. the 21st century and think I know

  806. something, right? This was they didn't

  807. have plumbing in the first century. I

  808. don't know if you knew this or not.

  809. Right.

  810. Yeah. This was this was kitchen trash,

  811. all their fish, bones, and nastiness,

  812. right? They'd be carrying it all to this

  813. one area and throw it through the dung

  814. gate. And they didn't have bathrooms and

  815. so they would Do we have to get graphic

  816. in church?

  817. >> You can imagine the aroma

  818. >> in the desert with the blazing sun.

  819. >> I just got to say this. If the receipt

  820. book, if the Bible, if God as far as to

  821. report the name of the guy that rebuilt

  822. the dungate, I think you're serving

  823. matters. Amen.

  824. >> Amen.

  825. >> Amen. I

  826. >> I think when you serve in children's

  827. church, it matters. Yeah, man. People

  828. go, "Oh, I just I just hold the door at

  829. church.

  830. >> It's nothing, man. I would rather be a

  831. doorkeeper in the house of God."

  832. >> Amen.

  833. >> Every little bit counts.

  834. >> Your story counts.

  835. >> Man, say you're preaching good, pastor.

  836. I just need a little encouragement. I

  837. was feeling some kind of way.

  838. God sees you and God keeps receipts.

  839. Sometimes

  840. in ministry

  841. or in serving God, sometimes in this

  842. life, we can feel invisible on earth

  843. when we're actually famous in heaven.

  844. Mhm.

  845. >> We're actually famous

  846. in heaven.

  847. Malachi chapter 3

    Malachi 3:16

  848. verse 16 says, "Then those who feared

  849. the Lord spoke with one another." Catch

  850. this. The Lord paid attention and heard

  851. them, and a book of remembrance was

  852. written before him of those who feared

  853. the Lord and esteemed his name.

  854. I don't care how much I get recognized

  855. by men on earth,

  856. how many follows I get, how famous I

  857. get, man, is my name consistently being

  858. written in his book of remembrance that

  859. I esteemed him high, that I served him

  860. well.

  861. Say, heaven is keeping receipts.

  862. talking about eternal deposits. And

  863. this last week was at a funeral.

  864. Phenomenal

  865. memorial service

  866. for a gentleman in our church.

  867. And

  868. uh in the service, they had a trumpet

  869. player. And I've got to say, one of the

  870. most anointed, beautiful trumpet players

  871. I've ever heard in my life. And Pastor

  872. Larry and I were sitting and kind of

  873. chatting a little bit, but he's the

  874. trumpet player played Amazing Grace got

  875. my attention.

  876. There was another part of the service

  877. and then he did it is well with my soul.

  878. And for some reason as he was playing

  879. that, I started thinking about what my

  880. own funeral might look like one day. And

  881. I go, man, I'd like to have that played

  882. by that guy at my funeral.

  883. So, I started thinking about what my

  884. funeral would look like. Uh, not because

  885. I have any plans of going anywhere,

  886. but I got emotional because I started

  887. thinking about my family.

  888. I started thinking about if God did take

  889. me today,

  890. if it was all over, have I made enough

  891. of a deposit in my family and my young

  892. children

  893. that if I'm gone, they're going to serve

  894. God and make it into heaven. Because I

  895. got to tell you, the thought of eternity

  896. without them seems unbearable in this

  897. life. Amen. And if I if I poured in, if

  898. I have if I left a spiritual legacy in

  899. them that that they're okay without dad,

  900. we just get to trust God with some of

  901. these things.

  902. I started to get emotional and I started

  903. thinking even more. Am I doing enough to

  904. pour it into them?

  905. Am I doing enough?

  906. Psalm 78 says this,

  907. "We will not hide them from their

  908. children,

  909. but tell to the coming generation the

  910. glorious deeds of the Lord and his might

  911. and the wonders that he has done."

  912. Psalm 78 kind of gives us some

  913. some some ideas of what our job is. Our

  914. job is to tell the next generation of

  915. the glorious deeds of God. Amen.

  916. >> You didn't get saved just for you. you

  917. you got saved also for them.

  918. It's the legacy we leave.

  919. It's the life that we've lived.

  920. Say deposits.

  921. I love hearing people's testimonies.

  922. The other part of our rooted group

  923. this last week was about sharing your

  924. story and talking about uh one of the

  925. questions that we answered was who was

  926. it that first told you about Jesus and

  927. how that actually impacted your life?

  928. So we went around I got to hear all

  929. these amazing stories and I got to share

  930. my own. I got to say this and we'll

  931. close with this thought.

  932. When I was, some of you know my

  933. testimony, I was a drug addict and I was

  934. in high school and addicted radically to

  935. cocaine. And I would drive to grandma's

  936. house to borrow 20 bucks.

  937. My grandma gave me it to me every time

  938. I'd ask. And so, as an addict, I would

  939. continue to go back.

  940. Never paid her back.

  941. But every time that I went, she would

  942. also be dropping little bits of faith

  943. into me. She would invite me to church,

  944. which I never went. And I loved my

  945. grandmother. She was an amazing woman.

  946. And she didn't have the $20 to give me,

  947. but she gave it anyways. And this one

  948. time, she gave me a cassette.

  949. It had a gospel song on it. And she

  950. said, "When you leave here, I want you

  951. to listen to this when you get a

  952. chance." Okay, Grandma. Thanks.

  953. Well, it was later that evening and I

  954. sat in my basement and put that song in,

  955. that cassette in and just sat and

  956. listened to it by myself. And that at

  957. first I'm hearing the type of music what

  958. that it was and I'm going, "Grandma,

  959. what are you doing with your life?"

  960. Well, somehow the words that the man

  961. sang spoke to my life. And I've heard

  962. that song countless times since. And

  963. every time I go back to that young,

  964. lost, addicted teenager

  965. and how I had a grandmother that was

  966. praying for me and speaking into my

  967. life.

  968. Can I tell you that some of you are that

  969. grandmother today? Some of you are that

  970. parent today. Somebody spoke into your

  971. life. Somebody dropped a seed, a legacy

  972. seed of faith on the inside of you. They

  973. were praying for you when you were too

  974. dumb to pray for yourself. Amen. Amen.

  975. >> Somebody loved you with the love of the

  976. father. They made an eternal deposit.

  977. I got to tell you, it's your turn now.

  978. It's your turn now to pray for other

  979. people.

  980. Praise you, Jesus.

  981. I'm going to ask the worship team to

  982. join me up here.

  983. our America

  984. and Christianity. It overestimates

  985. intensity and underestimates

  986. consistency.

  987. When we talk about the big conference,

  988. the amazing worship service, the hype,

  989. I think God is less impressed

  990. with the hype. Amen.

  991. >> It it feels big in the moment. It feels

  992. spiritual in the moment. But can I tell

  993. you 10 years of consistently

  994. loving your children

  995. and pouring into them faith and the word

  996. of God is more valuable than that

  997. conference that made you feel good for a

  998. moment.

  999. Show up.

1000. Daily obedience is what builds eternal

  1001. investments,

  1002. eternal interest.

1003. I've looked at it and I've looked at the

1004. price that we've paid to give our life

1005. to the gospel and to serve in ministry.

  1006. And I've looked at my children. I can't

1007. afford to send my children to college.

1008. I'm not going to leave them, unless the

1009. Lord shows up in a unique way. I'm not

1010. going to leave them a fortune.

1011. But I can leave them faith.

1012. I can leave them Jesus. Something that

  1013. matters more.

  1014. Amen.

1015. Let's stand to our feet all over this

  1016. house.

1017. Deuteronomy 6:12 says, "Take care lest

    Deuteronomy 6:12

1018. you forget the Lord who brought you out

1019. of the land of Egypt, out of the house

  1020. of slavery."

1021. My challenge to you today is to be

1022. careful that in your success you don't

  1023. get spiritual amnesia.

  1024. Amen.

1025. My encouragement to you today, my

1026. challenge is that you remember the

1027. receipts, the miracles that God has done

1028. in your life, and that you position

  1029. yourself

1030. as a real Christian that makes real

  1031. deposits in real people.

1032. deposits that will outlive you in this

  1033. earth.

1034. Father, I thank you, Lord, for freedom.

1035. I thank you for fire and power and love

1036. and compassion and grace. And Father, I

1037. thank you, Lord, for the calling that's

1038. on our lives. God, that you have called

1039. us to go into all the world and preach

  1040. the gospel.

  1041. Father, to love people.

1042. And Lord, I thank you that you've

1043. equipped us to do so.

  1044. Praise you Jesus.

1045. Father, we pray that our life matters

1046. for the kingdom. Lord, that we have

1047. impact on those around us.

1048. Father, I pray over every soul in this

  1049. room, every household represented.

1050. Father, for unsaved loved ones and

1051. prodal sons and daughters, Father, for

1052. those that are not in right relationship

1053. with you, God, I pray that those of us

1054. that are faithful would have a high

1055. impact in their life, God. Lord, that

1056. you would draw them back and bring them

1057. in, Father, that unsaved people would

  1058. become saints, God.

1059. Father, continue to grow this church not

1060. with people coming from other churches,

1061. but God, I pray that sinners would

  1062. become saints.

1063. >> God, that we would impact the

1064. neighborhood around us, the the hurting

1065. people. God, Father, we thank you for

1066. the call upon our life. And Father,

1067. we've lifted our hands and said, "Send

  1068. us.

  1069. >> Praise you, Jesus."

1070. And Father, I pray for every soul in

  1071. this room

  1072. that doesn't know you,

  1073. that is yet to

1074. seal the deal and make heaven their

  1075. home.

  1076. And Father,

1077. by the authority you've given me in

  1078. Jesus name,

1079. I say that nothing will hinder their

  1080. salvation.

1081. Thank you, Lord, for this moment in time

1082. that you've ordained to receive them

  1083. into your kingdom.

1084. We're going to continue in the

1085. atmosphere of prayer. And if you're in

1086. this house, I'm not going to embarrass

1087. you, but if you're here and you're

1088. going, I need to make Jesus my savior.

1089. I need to I need to have my own proof of

1090. purchase. If that's you, just lift your

1091. hand and say, "Pastor, pray for me."

1092. Praise you, Jesus. Thank you.

1093. Thank you. Hands going up around this

  1094. room.

  1095. >> Praise you, Jesus.

1096. Thank you, Lord. Father, I thank you for

  1097. those hands lifted.

1098. Father, I pray also for those that

1099. didn't lift that needed to.

  1100. >> Praise you, Jesus.

1101. We thank you for the salvation of souls.

1102. Thank you, Lord. We're going to continue

1103. in prayer and every person in this room,

1104. we're all going to pray a salvation

1105. prayer together. And if you lifted your

1106. hand or if you're watching online and

1107. you're praying this prayer, if you

1108. believe it in your heart and you

1109. surrender your life, God says that this

1110. moment is your moment of salvation.

  1111. >> Right now, God,

1112. >> I'm going to ask everyone in this room

1113. and those watching online to follow me

1114. in this prayer. Would you say, "Father

  1115. in heaven,

  1116. >> Father in heaven,

  1117. >> I confess. I confess.

  1118. >> I need you.

  1119. >> I'm a sinner.

  1120. >> I'm lost.

  1121. >> And right now

  1122. >> I receive payment.

  1123. >> I receive

1124. >> through the blood of Jesus Christ

  1125. >> for my soul

1126. >> for my life and my eternity.

  1127. >> My eternity.

  1128. >> I receive you now.

  1129. >> Receive you

1130. >> as Lord of my life.

1131. >> Lord of my life.

  1132. >> In Jesus name.

  1134. Lord today?

1135. We're going to close with worship and

1136. our prayer team is going to be up here.

1137. If you need prayer for anything, I want

1138. to invite you to come. If you gave your

1139. life to Jesus, my encouragement is for

1140. you to tell somebody what you did today.

1141. Uh to make it official by sharing it uh

1142. with somebody. Uh let's worship the Lord

  1143. together.
