  2. Hallelujah.

  3. Grace Summit Church, how we feeling

  4. today?

  5. Man, 12 of you are doing great.

  6. >> Great summit. How are we feeling today?

  7. >> Hallelujah. Hey, if you're a first- time

  8. guest with us, my name is Ben. I have

  9. the opportunity to serve as lead pastor

  10. here. And man, we're going to uh dive

  11. into God's word. Before we do, uh today

  12. is challenge Sunday. And so if you've

  13. been tracking with us uh for the last

  14. year, we've been uh doing a capital

  15. campaign uh and participating together

  16. so that we can expand the building,

  17. right? And so just uh few weeks ago, we

  18. kind of did a little reboot because we

  19. have the the new drawings and the and

  20. the better price point. We like we like

  21. being good stewards of God's money. We

  22. got we got a better deal on everything.

  23. Uh some pictures behind me, but um on

  24. your way in, I think you received a

  25. packet. Is that right?

  26. Yeah. Okay. Help me out up here.

  27. Um, so in that you guys will see a

  28. commitment card and I know a lot last

  29. fall a lot of you guys uh made a pledge

  30. and a commitment uh to participate in

  31. this and for some of you this is a brand

  32. new conversation and just getting

  33. started um with it. But uh our heart as

  34. we've been talking about this the last

  35. few weeks is to pray. uh we don't want

  36. one penny given uh beyond what God has

  37. told you to give. Amen. And so we just

  38. we just have a big vision here. God's

  39. dropped it in our spirit and the big

  40. push uh is for the next generation. I

  41. was thinking about it um even when

  42. Pastor Jessica was sharing. But you know

  43. many of us in the kingdom we're living

  44. off of uh saints that have gone before

  45. us that swed into the kingdom. you know,

  46. like we were raised up in a church that

  47. somebody else paid for, you know, and

  48. and spiritually built and all those

  49. different things. And what God's been

  50. ministering to me is now it's our turn

  51. to minister for future generations.

  52. Amen. So, pray about that. Uh we're

  53. really uh the heart is that uh by June

  54. 21st uh that we have those commitment

  55. cards in. And so, pray over it um and

  56. see what God would have you do. You guys

  57. ready for the word of God?

  58. Hallelujah. We are in a series

  59. called real Christianity.

  60. Uh I I want to be a real Christian.

  61. Anyone with me? All right. Raise your

  62. hand if you want to be a fake Christian.

  63. Joy in the back goes whoop.

  64. That was a trick question. Praise the

  65. Lord. No, we don't want to be fake

  66. Christians. We want to be real

  67. Christians. Right. And so, man, we're

  68. going to dig into that uh today. Pray

  69. with me. Father, we thank you, Lord, for

  70. your word. And Lord, I pray that as I

  71. speak, I speak as an oracle of God.

  72. Father, that we wouldn't hear just words

  73. from men, but God, I pray that your Holy

  74. Spirit would minister grace to each

  75. heart. And Father, not only speak to us,

  76. but Lord, we're asking for an

  77. impartation of grace and of love today.

  78. God, that we would leave this place

  79. more like you than we've ever known. So

  80. Lord, I thank you for your anointing in

  81. this house upon our hearts. I pray that

  82. you speak to us now in Jesus name. Amen.

  83. So, real Christianity, we can't talk

  84. about real Christianity without talking

  85. about real love. Amen. I mean, that's

  86. kind of I don't know if you've read the

  87. book, but that's kind of a major point

  88. inside of here is love, right? And so,

  89. man, we're going to we're going to dig

  90. in a little bit. Um, here's my

  91. conviction

  92. and my observation

  93. with us as humans. We are some busy,

  94. busy people.

  95. you guys busy? Maybe it's the four kids

  96. in my house, but man, I just we just go

  97. and go and go and uh man, I I watch

  98. society and I watch uh kind of our

  99. mentality of what life is doing to us

  100. here in America in this day and age. And

  101. not only are we on the go so much, but

  102. at the same time, as believers, we are

  103. walking in spiritual warfare.

  104. The enemy is trying to take us out any

  105. little chance he can.

  106. So, we're busy with life. We're doing

  107. all the things. And if we're not

  108. careful,

  109. we can get so busy serving God that we

  110. stop enjoying the life that God gave us.

  111. Amen.

  112. I'm guilty as charged, man. I've done

  113. it.

  114. John 10:10,

    John 10:10

  115. Jesus said, "The thief." Say, "The

  116. thief. The thief comes only to steal,

  117. kill, and destroy."

  118. The devil really just wants to make us

  119. miserable. I've got to tell you, he does

  120. a really good job sometimes. He's good

  121. at what he does.

  122. Steal everything that God wants you to

  123. have. But Jesus said, "Oh my goodness."

  124. Listen to this. Devil came to steal,

  125. kill, and destroy. But Jesus says, "I

  126. came that they may have life and have it

  127. abundantly."

  128. You might have life and have it

  129. abundantly. One translation says that

  130. you so that you can enjoy your life in

  131. God.

  132. Enjoy your life.

  133. Love your life.

  134. How do you do that?

  135. You ever notice it's like easy to hear

  136. about you? It's easy to come Sunday

  137. morning and and hear these messages

  138. about love and we know that we're

  139. supposed to walk. How do you do that? I

  140. want to look at the next scripture. He

  141. says, "I am the good shepherd.

  142. The good shepherd lays down his life for

  143. his sheep." He's kind of thinking about

  144. that, man. He's talking about having an

  145. abundant life and goes right into this

  146. good shepherd kind of picture.

  147. Sheep, I don't know if you guys have

  148. ever evaluated them. They don't have a

  149. care in the world. if they got a good

  150. shepherd, you know, and let me put it

  151. this way. You guys ever been a passenger

  152. in a vehicle, not the driver, and you've

  153. maybe even taken the same trip a few

  154. times, and then and then somebody says,

  155. "Well, how do you get there?" And I'm

  156. like, "I don't know. I wasn't driving.

  157. What road is that?" I don't I don't

  158. know. Right? You guys ever been a

  159. passenger where somebody else is the one

  160. that's kind of always That's the good

  161. shepherd, right? I enjoy being a

  162. passenger a whole lot more than driving.

  163. Depending on who's driving, right?

  164. Yeah.

  165. Sheep don't have a care in the world.

  166. All they have to do is love the

  167. shepherd. Shepherd protects them, feeds

  168. them, takes care of them. And here's

  169. what I want you to get. Sit back and

  170. enjoy life.

  171. Take some time to enjoy. I want to speak

  172. this over you today. God didn't save you

  173. so that you could just survive the

  174. devil.

  175. There's more to life. Amen.

  176. God saved you so that you could enjoy

  177. walking with him.

  178. You could enjoy being with you with him.

  179. Say, "Enjoy your life."

  180. I want to talk today about walking in

  181. real love.

  182. And the big question is how do we do

  183. that? Number one, you can't give what

  184. you haven't received.

  185. You can't give what you haven't

  186. received.

  187. John 16 24

  188. Jesus says this. He says, "Ask

  189. and receive

  190. that your joy may be full." One

  191. translation says that your joy might be

  192. complete. Right? So there there's a

  193. two-part thing here. And too often we're

  194. so busy busy busy. And I'm guilty. We'll

  195. ask I mean we're we're Christians,

  196. right? So we cast all of our cares upon

  197. him because he carth for us, right? We

  198. we take this stuff and we'll ask God,

  199. God, I'm praying for blessing here and

  200. praying for help with this. We ask and

  201. then we go do whatever we felt like we

  202. needed to do.

  203. Anyone else guilty?

  204. See, Jesus says, "Ask and then receive."

  205. There's this thing uh what's it called?

  206. Patience

  207. that happens in the receiving

  208. because I'm selfish.

  209. I want to God do I want you to do it

  210. right now. God, money's tight. Bless me

  211. right now. Ready for a check in the man.

  212. Right? You know what I mean? We just we

  213. we ask and we think God should just, you

  214. know, Burger King have it my way right

  215. away, baby. You know,

  216. we ask

  217. and then we receive. And Jesus says

  218. that's how your joy

  219. gets complete or full.

  220. Stop trying to make things happen

  221. yourself.

  222. Stop worrying about things.

  223. Interesting thing I've learned the hard

  224. way over and over is that no matter how

  225. bad

  226. life looks or how bad things get, God's

  227. still on the throne.

  228. God still has it all held together. You

  229. know, how many seasons we've walked

  230. through, it's just like devastation. And

  231. and then I get done, I look back and I'm

  232. like, God had it all figured out the

  233. whole time. Is that rain?

  234. Hey, our new building should have better

  235. insulation on the ceiling.

  236. Glad I didn't ride the motorcycle.

  237. Sheesh.

  238. If you're worshiping with us online,

  239. it's a lot more fun in the room.

  240. Ask and receive. Stop trying to make

  241. things happen yourself.

  242. Don't worry about things.

  243. Jesus essentially is saying, "Let God

  244. take care of your problems

  245. that your joy may be full." And I want

  246. to encourage you to take time to enjoy

  247. the life that God gave you.

  248. Take time to enjoy the life God gave

  249. you. You know, as a pastor, I'm involved

  250. with a lot of funerals. But one thing

  251. that I've learned, Pastor Dan, is that

  252. we all have an expiration date, right?

  253. And we don't know if it's tomorrow,

  254. could be today in a rainstorm, I don't

  255. know.

  256. We might live to be 112.

  257. But here's my heart is I don't want

  258. anyone in this room

  259. to live their life in such a way, so

  260. busy, not enjoying that we get to the

  261. end of it and have regrets.

  262. Because here's what I've learned about

  263. regrets is that you can't go back in

  264. time, right? You can do your best now to

  265. try to make things right that I wasn't

  266. there for my kids or I didn't wasn't

  267. able to do this or we never we never did

  268. that. Yeah. You can't go back and make

  269. it change. You can only do the best with

  270. the regret that you have. And so God is

  271. challenging me to say, "Man, right here,

  272. right now, this is a God moment, and I'm

  273. going to make the most of this

  274. opportunity."

  275. And we only get one life.

  276. I think the rain stopped.

  277. We have a strange culture in America

  278. that

  279. Americans glorify work way too much.

  280. We work our little butts off, don't we,

  281. man? Uh, most of us probably work too

  282. much and don't take enough time to enjoy

  283. life.

  284. Ephesians chapter 5 says this, shared it

    Ephesians 5 chapter mention

  285. Wednesday night, but it says, "Be very

  286. careful then how you live, not as the

  287. unwise, but as wise people." Catch this.

  288. Making the most of every opportunity

  289. because the days are evil. Making the

  290. most of every opportunity.

  291. Man, I've preached that scripture so

  292. many different ways and so many

  293. different times and read different

  294. commentaries on what that means. And uh

  295. usually most of them are very spiritual

  296. in application. Make the most of every

  297. opportunity. I think it means make the

  298. most of the time that you have with your

  299. kids.

  300. Make the most of the opportunity that

  301. you have with your spouse or make the

  302. most of the opportunity that you have

  303. with your parents if they're still here.

  304. Make the most of every opportunity.

  305. Enjoy your children.

  306. Here's a tough one. Enjoy your job.

  307. Man, it has got to be raining really

  308. hard. That's like the loudest I've ever

  309. heard it in here. It's like monsoon

  310. style.

  311. Sorry, guys. I get distracted really

  312. easy. So, you're just going to have to

  313. track with me.

  314. Yeah.

  315. Enjoy

  316. your spouse. Enjoy your job. Did my

  317. microphone just get louder? See, I got

  318. distracted again.

  319. Can I say this? Enjoy serving God.

  320. Enjoy serving God.

  321. Here's where real Christianity starts.

  322. 1 John 4:19 says that we love because

    1 John 4:19

  323. he first loved us.

  324. We love because he first loved us.

  325. Let me talk to you a little bit about

  326. the starting line when we're talking

  327. about uh living in love with God,

  328. walking in love with God, and and really

  329. living this thing out. Uh this is the

  330. starting line is that receiving piece.

  331. We love because God first loved us and

  332. died for us, gave himself for us. While

  333. we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

  334. And here's I want to preach against the

  335. American mentality a little bit because

  336. when we're lacking in joy and we don't

  337. feel like our life is complete, it's ask

  338. and then receive. It's not work harder,

  339. try harder, dig deeper. We have this

  340. mentality, man. Things just aren't going

  341. my way. And I've as I asked God, I

  342. prayed about it. And then we have this

  343. kind of mentality. I'm going to pull

  344. myself up by my bootstraps, right? I'm

  345. just going to I'm going to dig in. I'm

  346. going to I'm going to put in some more

  347. hours. I'm going to work. We do. when

  348. it's all we have this more mentality.

  349. Well, I'm I'm not happy here, so I'm

  350. going to do more therapy and I'm going

  351. to get more prescriptions. I'm going to

  352. get more of this and more of that. And

  353. man, we didn't have enough time, so I'm

  354. going to get more vacations.

  355. Right. Yeah. You know what I've learned

  356. is that if I'm not happy here in Fort

  357. Wayne, I'm not going to be happy in

  358. Hawaii

  359. because everywhere I go, there I am.

  360. What's that?

  361. Pastor Dan says we should try that out.

  362. He thinks we'd be happier in Hawaii.

  363. So, uh, Father's Day weekend, we're

  364. doing a church field trip to Hawaii.

  365. Pastor Dan's footing the bill,

  366. and we're all going to see if we're

  367. happier. Man, I think I could preach

  368. with one of those flower things on. What

  369. are they called, Lays? Yeah.

  370. Yeah,

  371. that' be fun.

  372. Uh you know we worked with uh addicts

  373. for years and um in ministry and I tried

  374. it myself the geographical relocation

  375. rehab. Yeah. I was really unhappy in one

  376. location where I grew up and so that's

  377. the people and if I could just get out

  378. of this town and I then I moved all the

  379. way to Florida and when I got out of the

  380. truck I was still there, right? Anywhere

  381. I went there I was. I just didn't like

  382. me. I wasn't happy with me. I wasn't

  383. saved yet. Right? And we do this man. We

  384. look everywhere else but the presence of

  385. God for satisfaction, for joy, to be

  386. complete. And the Bible says, "Ask and

  387. then have patience and then receive that

  388. your joy might be complete."

  389. We don't get it by trying harder.

  390. We get it by receiving deeper.

  391. Oh man, you can write that down. You

  392. won't get it by trying harder. You get

  393. it by receiving deeper. And that's the

  394. chase that we're on. God, how can I

  395. receive more of your grace? God, how can

  396. I receive more of your love? What what

  397. what do I where where do I got to be?

  398. What do I got to do to get myself in a

  399. spiritual and mental, emotional position

  400. to receive more of God's grace and love?

  401. Now I'm prepared. Now I'm at the

  402. starting line of actually walking this

  403. thing out, living this thing out.

  404. We love because he first loved us. Not

  405. because our circumstances changed,

  406. not because finally people at work

  407. started being nicer to me,

  408. right? Not because we changed locations,

  409. but because we received his love. you

  410. know, humanity and flesh, we all can

  411. really easily come up with excuses um

  412. why we shouldn't love somebody and why

  413. we shouldn't be loved, why we're

  414. unlovable. Full of excuses. And man, I

  415. just I just can't because here's what I

  416. want you to receive today. I want you to

  417. take all of your because throw them in

  418. the trash can. Amen. And because man, I

  419. got a whole list that I can come up

  420. with. Well, I'm not going to be nice to

  421. them because I'm not going to love them

  422. because or I'm unlovable because

  423. throw that because away.

  424. We love because he first loved us.

  425. You can't pour out what you haven't

  426. first let God pour in.

  427. I was thinking about this. You know, the

  428. really one of the really first stories

  429. we hear of in the Bible, read about is

  430. Adam and Eve.

  431. And Adam sinned, right? It's a classic

  432. story. I mean, we're talking I don't

  433. know how long they were in the garden

  434. before the fall happened, but it's like

  435. the worst day of Adam's life, right? I

  436. mean, the absolute stupidest thing that

  437. he could have done. He gets all wrapped

  438. up in sin. Now, him and Eve are are

  439. hiding from God, right? And what's the

  440. response of the father? It wasn't Adam

  441. that said, "Man, I sinned. I messed up.

  442. God, where where are you at?" They're

  443. hiding from God. They're trying to stay

  444. away from God. And and and the voice of

  445. the father comes and says, "Adam, where

  446. are you?

  447. Where are you?" God, the father starts

  448. chasing down Adam at his worst moment.

  449. That love that we see in the very first

  450. story of the Bible is echoed through the

  451. entire Bibles. And it's echoed through

  452. every prayer that you pray. I don't know

  453. how many times I would venture to say in

  454. the millions of times I've been an

  455. absolute idiot. Got selfish, did

  456. something stupid, did something sinful,

  457. right? Okay. To tell the truth in

  458. church. Yeah. Just stupid stuff. And I

  459. feel the shame and all the guilt. And

  460. over and over, the voice I hear is,

  461. "Ben, where are you?"

  462. It's the heart of the father chasing me

  463. down to love me back into the kingdom.

  464. We love because he first loved us and he

  465. continues to love us. Sometimes we

  466. simplify the love of God, the gospel

  467. message to only what was done 2,000

  468. years ago,

  469. not to what continually happens in our

  470. life every single moment.

  471. That God is chasing you down to love

  472. you.

  473. While we were still sinners, Christ died

  474. for us. If you're taking notes, you can

  475. write this down. Real love

  476. moves toward you at your worst, not away

  477. from you.

  478. So, we see this

  479. representation of God's love and how his

  480. actions play out in our life. But if

  481. we're called, calling me crazy, but I

  482. think the love that we've received,

  483. we're supposed to offer other people.

  484. Amen. And so, we're supposed to love

  485. with the same love of the father. That

  486. means the love that we have, we should

  487. be running towards people at their

  488. worst.

  489. Oh, I'm talking to church people here.

  490. Well, they used to be in church. They

  491. were plugged in, but but now they got

  492. they got stuff in their life and we

  493. don't really hang out with them anymore.

  494. Are you kidding me? Are you kidding me?

  495. When did we stop loving them because

  496. they're at their worst moment? Man,

  497. that's that's when the love of the

  498. father chases them down. say, "Man, I

  499. love you too much to let you get out of

  500. fellowship with other Christians. Man, I

  501. want to I want to just can we just hang

  502. out and I just I just want to encourage

  503. you." Right? Because authentic agape

  504. love is unconditional. There aren't

  505. there aren't a bunch of rules and

  506. conditions of of well, oh, they had to

  507. do this and they had to say this and

  508. they can't have any any mess in their

  509. life. And at the same time, you've got

  510. mess in your life and you're being

  511. critical with them, choosing to not love

  512. them.

  513. Oh man, I almost started preaching.

  514. H real love moves towards people at

  515. their very worst.

  516. Not a way.

  517. Thankful that God does that to us.

  518. And can I say this? In order to really

  519. love other people, well, we're receiving

  520. the God's love for us, but you have to

  521. also love yourself. Amen.

  522. There's some in this room that you love

  523. God. You serve God.

  524. You just don't like yourself.

  525. Live under condemnation or this replay

  526. of your past or ashamed of who you are.

  527. Real Christianity starts when you accept

  528. God's love for you.

  529. Ephesians chapter 3 says that one of the

    Ephesians 3 chapter mention

  530. things that God wants us to know is the

  531. love of Christ that surpasses knowledge.

  532. It goes beyond our understanding. God

  533. God says, "Man, I just want you to know

  534. this one thing. The love of God that

  535. surpasses your understanding that you

  536. might be grounded and rooted in love."

  537. Until

  538. we receive that, everything else in

  539. Christianity feels like work. You ever

  540. notice that? If you don't like yourself,

  541. if you don't love yourself

  542. and you show up on Sunday and it's a

  543. mess, right? You're going through it and

  544. you're you don't even

  545. How are you? Oh, we're doing good. The

  546. kids are so great. We put on Sunday

  547. face, don't we?

  548. And it feels like work. And man, you

  549. ever just get to the place where it's

  550. like, man, I'm done peopleing for today

  551. because that's like a too much effort to

  552. be nice to everyone and and to be loving

  553. because on the inside I'm actually

  554. struggling.

  555. Till you receive the love of God,

  556. everything else Christianity feels like

  557. work.

  558. Number two in your notes is love is

  559. proven in action, not intention.

  560. 2 Timothy chapter 3

    2 Timothy 3 chapter mention

  561. verse one says, "You should know this

  562. that in the last days there will be very

  563. difficult times."

  564. I think we're living in them.

  565. For people will love only themselves and

  566. their money.

  567. They will be boastful and proud,

  568. scoffing at God, disobedient to their

  569. parents, and ungrateful.

  570. They will consider nothing sacred. Verse

  571. three, they will be unloving and

  572. unforgiving.

  573. They will slander others and have no

  574. self-control.

  575. They will be cruel and hate what is

  576. good.

  577. I think we're living in those days.

  578. It says they will betray their friends,

  579. be reckless, be puffed up with pride.

  580. Catch this. And love pleasure rather

  581. than God. Notice the word rather.

  582. Love pleasure

  583. rather than God.

  584. I believe the path to loving God starts

  585. with a war against our own selfishness.

  586. Because in our lack, in our

  587. discontentedness and our self, all this

  588. stuff, it's rooted in selfishness. And

  589. we'll chase more pleasure, more

  590. pleasure, more pleasure. Well, this will

  591. make me happy. That'll make me happy.

  592. That'll make me happy. And how many

  593. times have we got the thing that we

  594. thought would make us happy and we get

  595. there without God going, "Man, I'm just

  596. as miserable or even worse than when I

  597. started."

  598. They love pleasure rather than God.

  599. Verse 5

  600. says they will act religious.

  601. Wait a minute. They're in the church.

  602. these people that are reckless and

  603. prideful and boastful and selfish and

  604. disobedient. And

  605. I'm just reading the Bible. It says they

  606. will act religious,

  607. but they will reject the power that

  608. could make them godly. Bible says stay

  609. away from people like that.

  610. They act religious,

  611. but they reject the power that can make

  612. them godly. Man, I just think that the

  613. the power that can make us godly is the

  614. love of God. Amen. Power of the Holy

  615. Spirit, love of God.

  616. It says they act religious. Tell your

  617. neighbor, say, "Don't put on an act."

  618. They act religious.

  619. Missing the power of God.

  620. I'm hungry for real Christianity. I'm

  621. hungry for real power, for real love. I

  622. want the real thing, man.

  623. Yeah,

  624. man. When I was a kid,

  625. uh played basketball in school and my

  626. family, we had uh uh you know, opposites

  627. attract, right? My dad had no problem

  628. spending money on stuff and my mom

  629. didn't like spending money on anything.

  630. And so, in middle school, my mom went to

  631. Kmart to get my basketball shoes.

  632. Yeah. They weren't good shoes at all.

  633. And I was out on the court, man, trying

  634. to do it. And they didn't have any grip,

  635. so I would just slide across the court

  636. like I was on ice skates.

  637. Yeah. Uh I didn't want the fake

  638. basketball shoes. I wanted the real

  639. ones, the ones a little swish on the

  640. side, right?

  641. Yeah.

  642. Real Christianity, real power, not a

  643. substitute. John chapter 13, Jesus said,

    John 13 chapter mention

  644. and catch this. He says, "A new

  645. commandment I give you, that you love

  646. one another, just as I have loved you.

  647. You also are to love one another. By

  648. this all people will know that you're my

  649. disciples

  650. if you have love for one another."

  651. That's agape,

  652. unconditional love.

  653. It's interesting. I was

  654. listening to a Jewish rabbi speak uh not

  655. just on this text but other portions of

  656. scripture and he was confused on the

  657. English translation for the word

  658. commandment. He goes, "I'll never

  659. understand why English people speaking

  660. people put the word commandment there.

  661. It sounds so uh so so heavy and so hard

  662. like a like a law. It's legalistic." He

  663. says the word for commandment in the

  664. Hebrew language is mitzvah.

  665. He says it's it's instructions. It's

  666. like like a road map. It's it has the

  667. idea it's a romantic type uh language, a

  668. romantic word in the language. And if

  669. you can picture a a bride that was

  670. separated from her groom and the groom

  671. sent word that to give a a way back to

  672. be close to her, that would be a

  673. mitzvah.

  674. Jesus is saying, "New instructions I'm

  675. giving to you. a new road map I'm giving

  676. to you so that you can get in this

  677. closed place with me. It's not a do and

  678. don't. I I just I have to love them. God

  679. God said I have to love them, so I'm

  680. going to love them.

  681. That sounds real lovey. You guys know

  682. that 90% of communication is non-verbal.

  683. Do you guys know this? And man, we just

  684. we we we do it in word. I love them, but

  685. I just don't want them around me. I love

  686. them.

  687. you love them. You might want to let

  688. your face know that you love people. A

  689. lot of times we're walking around with

  690. like a do not disturb sign hung on our

  691. face, right?

  692. Yeah.

  693. I love them. It's like you got baptized

  694. in lemon juice. Man,

  695. can I say this? Love is more than word.

  696. It's also an action. And do you know

  697. that you're accountable for the way you

  698. make people feel, not just the things

  699. that you think? Love is more than

  700. intention. Right? Love is actually

  701. action. And my obligation is to make you

  702. feel loved by me. I learned this first

  703. in my marriage because I had missed the

  704. mark. Right. I love my wife. I love my

  705. wife. Like, do you? Yeah.

  706. It's about how you make people feel.

  707. I got off my notes.

  708. We often

  709. think that, especially in our lack, that

  710. man, I just need people around me to

  711. love me. I just wish I had people to

  712. love us. But really, what we need is

  713. somebody to love.

  714. We need somebody to love. By this, all

  715. people will know that you're my

  716. disciples if you agape one another. If

  717. you love each other. And I found this

  718. that everybody can find more people to

  719. love, right? And what are the what the

  720. new commandment that Christ gave? What

  721. did that say? We woke up every day and

  722. said, "Man, I just want to find somebody

  723. to to bless, man. I want to find

  724. somebody to love with God's love." Like,

  725. that's my that's my goal for today.

  726. Let's just go do that. I want to see see

  727. how many I can find today that I just

  728. got to love on with God's unconditional

  729. love.

  730. You'll in that

  731. feel more loved by God.

  732. Amen.

  733. And here's my conviction. I just think

  734. of every believer, if we got a hold of

  735. this thing, man, and we all just started

  736. walking in this love, uh, we wouldn't be

  737. trying to build a new building here.

  738. We'd be getting the coliseum next

  739. Sunday. Like, I just think that

  740. everybody like people are hurting out

  741. there and they don't need our religious

  742. legalism rules and stuff. You got

  743. tattoos, you got to listen to that

  744. music. Who get saved, man? just love

  745. people with God's love. And I just think

  746. that's how I got saved. Somebody loved

  747. me enough and shared the gospel message

  748. with me. I don't know anything, man. I'm

  749. a wreck, right? What if we just started

  750. loving people?

  751. Everybody wants the answer to our broken

  752. society, our broken world. How do we fix

  753. it? Well, it's love God and love others.

  754. Walking in true love. And what I've

  755. learned is that if there's a such a

  756. thing as true love, then there's a thing

  757. called untrue love or false love, right?

  758. We've all experienced that. But true

  759. love is love in action. It's not just a

  760. conversation. Love is not an emotion.

  761. Love is action.

  762. They love pleasure rather than

  763. God.

  764. thinking about the word outreach.

  765. We're not called to inreach. We're not

  766. called to just bless ourselves and be

  767. selfish. We're called to outreach.

  768. Number three in your notes is that real

  769. love

  770. is interruptible

  771. and inconvenient.

  772. True love,

  773. real love is interruptible

  774. and inconvenient. In Matthew 5:44,

    Matthew 5:44

  775. Jesus said, "But I say to you, love your

  776. enemies

  777. and pray for those who persecute you so

  778. that you may be sons of your father who

  779. is in heaven. For he makes a son, catch

  780. this, to rise on the evil and on the

  781. good, and sends rain on the just and on

  782. the unjust.

  783. For if you love those who love you, what

  784. reward do you have? Do not even tax

  785. collectors do the same? And if you greet

  786. only your brother, what more are you

  787. doing than others? Do not even Gentiles

  788. do the same.

  789. Love is not an emotion. Love is an

  790. action. And can I tell you a lot of

  791. times love is inconvenient?

  792. If loving others doesn't cost you

  793. something, then have you truly loved?

  794. Amen.

  795. I I've learned this that

  796. investing in people costs something.

  797. Cost us something. Loving people

  798. has a cost. It's not always convenient.

  799. It's not just what you tell somebody.

  800. It's also what you show someone.

  801. 1 John chapter 3

    1 John 3:16

  802. verse 16 says, "We know what real love

  803. is

  804. because Jesus gave up his life for us.

  805. So we also ought to give up our lives

  806. for our brothers."

  807. Listen to verse 17. If someone has

  808. enough money to live well and see a

  809. brother in need but shows no compassion,

  810. how can God's love be in that person?

  811. Dear children, let's not merely say that

  812. we love each other. Let us show the

  813. truth by our actions. Our actions will

  814. show that we belong to the truth. So we

  815. will be confident when we stand before

  816. God. Even if we feel guilty, God is

  817. greater than our feelings and he knows

  818. everything.

  819. You got a war going on on the inside of

  820. you

  821. against self.

  822. My heart is to learn what real

  823. love is.

  824. To be able to express the real love of

  825. God. Amen.

  826. The answer to the problems outside of

  827. this room in society and in people's

  828. lives, I don't think are going to be

  829. solved by TV preachers

  830. or even Sunday morning pastors. Amen.

  831. I think it's going to be solved because

  832. we

  833. wage war against our own sin and

  834. selfishness and rather than pleasure, we

  835. love God.

  836. And people feel the love of God. Amen.

  837. I went through a season of my life that

  838. um I was struggling

  839. really going through a hard time and I

  840. had some unresolved stuff. I was in

  841. ministry. I had some unresolved stuff in

  842. me. And uh at the same time, God was

  843. using me consistently to be a blessing

  844. to other people's lives. I had counsel

  845. and this one's getting freedom. And man,

  846. I get done preaching. People are like,

  847. "Man, that was amazing, powerful, and

  848. changed my life." And all this stuff.

  849. And I remember being in prayer and I'm

  850. going, "God, why is it that uh I'm able

  851. to be used by you and be a blessing to

  852. them, but I'm not able to help myself."

  853. Amen.

  854. And God really ministered to me. He

  855. said, "That's by design.

  856. That's by design that I use people to

  857. bless other people." And so I had to

  858. find I had to surround myself with other

  859. people. And God said, ' Man, I'm I'm

  860. using you in a powerful way in their

  861. life and somebody else is going to be

  862. used in a powerful way in your life.

  863. Amen.

  864. You have everything that you need on the

  865. inside of you to walk in love. And you

  866. don't have to be perfect to love

  867. somebody else. You can be going through

  868. your own stuff, right, wrestling with

  869. it, and still show the love of God.

  870. Ephesians chapter 2:10 says, "We are his

  871. workmanship,

  872. created in Christ Jesus for good works,

  873. which God prepared beforehand

  874. that we should walk in them."

  875. So God's love is

  876. inconvenient, but it's also

  877. interruptible. Um, I have a book in my

  878. office on my bookshelf. Maybe you're

  879. familiar with it. It's called In His

  880. Steps. You guys remember this classic

  881. Christian book and it has the idea of

  882. walking in the steps of Jesus. Really

  883. powerful good book. And and uh but I was

  884. thinking about, you know, walking in his

  885. steps is powerful, but but I was

  886. thinking about all of the stops that

  887. Jesus made.

  888. And Jesus would just be walking and he

  889. had a destination and somebody would

  890. touch the hem of his garment and he

  891. didn't look at them and say, "I'm I'm

  892. busy. I'm I'm over here doing stuff. He

  893. was interruptible. Jesus would be on the

  894. way to this town and somebody would stop

  895. him and run up and he would heal them or

  896. they healed a blind man. I mean, he was

  897. always interruptible. And love is

  898. inconvenient. And love is also

  899. interruptible.

  900. Amen.

  901. Not just in his steps, it's in his

  902. stops.

  903. Always looking for opportunities to

  904. love.

  905. singing about the platform

  906. often that we

  907. are our very best is when other people

  908. are watching.

  909. Years ago, we

  910. served at a ministry in Moskegan and

  911. just gotten married and uh pastor was

  912. preaching and he he stopped and he said,

  913. "Man, my throat's dry. Could anyone get

  914. me a water?" And I remember this young

  915. guy, I'm in ministry and I just I wanted

  916. to get him a water so bad. You know, I

  917. just everyone you can see a handful of

  918. people kind of jump like, "I'll get

  919. pastor a water." And you feel kind of

  920. cool because you get to hand it to

  921. pastor.

  922. So then later that night, I go home and

  923. sitting I just got comfortable in my man

  924. chair and my wife goes, "Hun, could you

  925. get me a water?" And I'm like,

  926. and I got to get up,

  927. right?

  928. Why was it so radically different to

  929. love in that moment? See, we find it

  930. more spiritual when it's noticeable,

  931. when other people recognize it, but when

  932. we're at home. And I got to tell you,

  933. loving authentically, real Christianity,

  934. real love starts at home. And don't be

  935. putting on an act. Don't be acting

  936. religious out here. and I love and I

  937. serve and all this stuff and at home

  938. you're a bum or you're aggravated or

  939. you're anyone a little interruption.

  940. I just really want to love. Amen.

  941. Let's stand to our feet all over this

  942. house.

  943. I'll ask the worship team to join me up

  944. here. Real Christianity is not just busy

  945. activity,

  946. not religious language, not church

  947. attendance,

  948. but real Christianity is receiving God's

  949. love. It's walking in God's love, and

  950. it's giving God's love.

  951. Praise you, Jesus. Father, we thank you,

  952. Lord. We thank you for the love of God,

  953. Father, that we would wage war against

  954. our own flesh, against our own

  955. selfishness.

  956. Father, that we wouldn't be chasing

  957. after our own pleasure.

  958. But God, I pray that something would

  959. shift in our spirit, God, in a new way,

  960. God, that we not only uh try harder, but

  961. Father, we receive deeper

  962. the love of God

  963. that goes beyond our understanding,

  964. Lord, that we would really enjoy our

  965. life and enjoy our

  966. job, our spouse, our children.

  967. Father, that we would enjoy serving you.

  968. Father, I pray that non-verbal

  969. communication in our lives would preach

  970. the gospel of Jesus Christ.

  971. Father, that just the way that we walk

  972. in the room, Lord, people would be drawn

  973. to heaven.

  974. Lord, I pray that your Holy Spirit

  975. overflows in our life in such a way,

  976. God, that people are receiving you

  977. everywhere that we go.

  978. Lord, we're hungry to be real Christians

  979. with real love,

  980. real power, Lord. And we receive it now,

  981. Father. We receive

  982. your grace and your mercy and your love.

  983. We might be used by you. We thank you

  984. for it, God, in Jesus name. And God's

  985. people said, "Amen.
