  13. feeling,

  14. >> man. About 35% of you are doing awesome.

  15. Grace Summit Church, how we feeling,

  16. >> man. It's just a good day to be alive.

  17. Amen. It's a good day to be a follower

  18. of Christ. Uh hey, if you're a first or

  19. second time guest, uh my name is Ben. I

  21. pastor here. And uh we're going to dive

  22. in. You guys ready for the word?

  23. >> Praise the Lord. Let's pray together.

  24. Father, we thank you, Lord, for revival

  25. breaking loose in our spirit and our

  26. soul. Father, we have chose to not serve

  27. you casually, but Father, we've chose to

  28. go allin with you, Lord. We've chose,

  29. Father, to make you lord of every part

  30. of our lives, God. And father, we thank

  31. you today for taking us deeper, growing

  32. us stronger, Lord, that when we leave

  33. this house, Father, we are more like

  34. Jesus than we ever dreamed possible. So,

  35. Father, I speak blessing and anointing

  36. and grace upon the preaching of your

  37. word now in Jesus name. Amen.

  38. >> Every season

  39. has a purpose.

  40. Amen.

  41. Every season

  42. has a purpose. I want to read just a few

  43. scriptures out of Ecclesiastes.

  44. We're going to talk about seasons today.

  45. Ecclesiastes chapter 3.

    Ecclesiastes 3 chapter mention

  46. Says for everything, say everything.

  47. >> There is a season

  48. and a time for every matter under

  49. heaven.

  50. A time to be born. A time to die. A time

  51. to plant.

  52. Time to pluck up what is planted. A time

  53. to kill and a time to heal. A time to

  54. break down and a time to build up.

  55. There's a time to weep and a time to

  56. laugh. A time to mourn.

  57. A time to dance.

  58. I want to stop right there. And there's

  59. several more. The scriptures continue to

  60. kind of do this compare and contrast of

  61. what we would call good seasons versus

  62. bad seasons, good moments versus bad

  63. moments.

  64. Every season

  65. has a purpose.

  66. What I have found in my own life is that

  67. seasons that we don't like prepare us

  68. for seasons that we love. Amen.

  69. H here's the issue I've seen

  70. and I'm preaching to myself this morning

  71. as well. We have a fleshly or a human

  72. tendency to want the promotion without

  73. the process.

  74. Anyone?

  75. I mean, God will reveal something to you

  76. or speak something to you or you'll

  77. you'll see a an amazing believer that

  78. that has everything that you desire.

  79. And God will you'll even pray that way.

  80. God, I I'm praying for this. I want

  81. this. I want that. I don't want this.

  82. And then God will lay it the process

  83. right before you of how you actually get

  84. there. And we get three steps in and get

  85. uncomfortable and aggravated and going,

  86. man, I'm not willing to to do what it

  87. takes to get where I want.

  88. We do it in the natural as well. Amen.

  89. We want the promotion without the

  90. process.

  91. We want the anointing

  92. without the wilderness. We want the

  93. palace

  94. without the pit,

  95. man. We want the six-pack abs

  96. without the gym membership.

  97. Amen.

  98. Yeah, man. I used to used to have that

  99. six-pack going on. And somewhere along

  100. the way, I looked in the mirror. Matter

  101. of fact, my kids were picking on me. I

  102. go, "Wait a minute. Where did it go? It

  103. used to be there.

  104. We we uh want all the blessings without

  105. the work.

  106. We don't really want to earn it

  107. sometimes, do we? Can I say this? This

  108. is my experience. There's only one way

  109. to get from here to there, and that's to

  110. go through it. And sometimes that means

  111. uncomfortability.

  112. That means hard work, dedication,

  113. faithfulness.

  114. You have to go through it to get it.

  115. I know this. If God allows the season,

  116. God has purpose for the season.

  117. My conviction is that God is so much

  118. larger than the devil that there is no

  119. such thing as accidents or coincidence

  120. or happen stance. If God allows you to

  121. walk through a season, there's a purpose

  122. in it. Every season

  123. has a purpose. I just don't think God

  124. wastes time. Amen.

  125. I think every season is just loaded.

  126. Every season is for us. And the question

  127. is whether we have the spiritual

  128. eyesight, spiritual sensitivity to know

  129. the season that we're standing in.

  130. You know, when we were young, back when

  131. I had abs, hallelujah,

  132. my wife and I used to snowboard. And uh

  133. man, it was great when I met her. She

  134. was a a skier snowboarder and the

  135. summertime she's a wakeboarder behind

  136. the boat and I I married a pretty cool

  137. chick. Amen.

  138. >> So she got I had skied before, but man,

  139. she got me in the whole snowboarding

  140. thing. So we get all the gear and maybe

  141. we travel all around and and uh before

  142. we had kids, we had money to spend and

  143. time and stuff like that. So we we go do

  144. all these weekend warrior trips and uh

  145. amazing stuff. But I was thinking about,

  146. you know, and I just picture this with

  147. me, a person all kind of decked out in

  148. the gear, right? They got they got all

  149. the expense of the park, all I mean all

  150. the stuff and the and the snowboard. And

  151. I want you to picture a guy getting on

  152. the chairlift and he rides all the way

  153. to the top of the mountain.

  154. He jumps off and he lands flat on his

  155. face.

  156. 10 seconds behind him is a guy wearing a

  157. t-shirt carrying a mountain bike

  158. sideways and he gets off, jumps off the

  159. chair and rides the bike down the

  160. mountain

  161. because they're standing in summer, not

  162. winter. You know, both had the

  163. intentionality, both had the proper

  164. gear, or so they thought, but one was

  165. willing and able to discern the season

  166. that he was standing in, and that's what

  167. led him to victory. Amen. How many times

  168. we have the right tools in the wrong

  169. season?

  170. Y'all are way too quiet this morning.

  171. Same lift, same mountain, different

  172. season. Number one in your notes is to

  173. discern the season.

  174. Discern the season.

  175. Here's what I've evaluated is we have a

  176. lot of really sincere,

  177. well-meaning, good-hearted believers

  178. that sometimes go through failure or

  179. struggle not because their heart is

  180. wrong, but because they're using the

  181. right tools in the wrong season. Say

  182. seasons.

  183. Ecclesiastes 3:1 says, "To everything

    Ecclesiastes 3:1

  184. there is a season

  185. and a time and a purpose, a time for

  186. every purpose under heaven."

  187. Luke 12, Jesus looks at the religious

  188. leaders and the crowd. In verse 54, he

  189. said this. He said, "When you see a

  190. cloud rising in the west, you say at

  191. once, a shower is coming." And so it

  192. happens.

  193. When you see the south wind blowing, you

  194. say there will be a scorching heat and

  195. it happens. You hypocrites. You know how

  196. to interpret the appearance of earth and

  197. sky, but why do you not know how to

  198. interpret the present time? Isn't that

  199. interesting? You know, we'll check our

  200. weather app 15 times this week and never

  201. take one self- evvaluation of our soul

  202. or spiritual temperature or the season

  203. that God has us in.

  204. and pray for spiritual discernment.

  205. Every season has a purpose. I'm a summer

  206. guy. Anyone else in here a summer lover?

  207. Man, just the fact that we're

  208. approaching the fall and I know that

  209. winter is coming. Like I I think the

  210. fall is beautiful. I like some of the

  211. temperatures and some of the stuff, but

  212. just knowing that it's going to be like

  213. -12 and I'm going to be pumping gas

  214. at some point this winter, I'm like, "Oh

  215. man, I just don't like it." And if it

  216. was up to me, it would be 73 and sunny

  217. every single day and uh with a nice cool

  218. breeze, right? Wouldn't that be perfect?

  219. Uh but what I've noticed even though I

  220. am a lover of sunshine and I love the

  221. summer um you know and I kind of we have

  222. a tendency to kind of plan our uh summer

  223. a little bit different than we'd plan

  224. our winter. We do outdoor activities and

  225. go different places and all these

  226. things. Um, I've had this experience

  227. several times in my life where uh had

  228. this big plan for Saturday and uh

  229. because it was supposed to be nice and

  230. then you wake up Saturday morning and

  231. you look outside and it's dark and

  232. cloudy and heavy rain. You guys had this

  233. experience?

  234. Have you ever had a rainy day that you

  235. needed that you didn't know you needed

  236. and you just kind of decide like I'm

  237. just kind of not going to do anything

  238. today. You know what I mean? you just

  239. kind of tuck back in. It's like, man, I

  240. had all these big plans. If it was nice,

  241. I'd be I'd be out running. I'd be out

  242. doing this stuff, right?

  243. But God ordained

  244. uh sometimes a rainy season in our life

  245. because we needed it when we didn't know

  246. that we needed it. Every season

  247. has a purpose. And the battle sometimes

  248. is discernment.

  249. Sometimes we need to stop calling our

  250. rainy season a bad day. We need to stop

  251. calling our hard season spiritual

  252. failure because God is doing something

  253. in it. If it's a season of pruning, we

  254. need to stop trying to bloom and produce

  255. fruit. Amen.

  256. Oh my goodness.

  257. Let God cut what needs to be cut so we

  258. can bear fruit in the right season. But

  259. sometimes it's the pruning season. God's

  260. discipling us, working on us, trimming

  261. some things back, preparing us. And we

  262. go, man, God, don't I don't No, I want

  263. to keep that. I don't like that. I'm

  264. going to bloom. It's my bloom season. I

  265. want to shine, right? And God's going,

  266. "Oh, that's that's next season. But

  267. right now, I need to cut a few things

  268. off of you." Amen.

  269. The sermon isn't just knowing what

  270. season it is. It's letting the season do

  271. its work.

  272. And let me say this, properly discerning

  273. the season you're in is preparation for

  274. spiritual victory.

  275. 1 Chronicles 12 is a interesting portion

  276. of scripture. Uh this is where it lists

  277. all of the tribes that came together to

  278. join David uh in this kind of uh

  279. takeover of the kingdom against Saul.

  280. Right? So David had been anointed king

  281. 14- 15 years prior to this. Then now

  282. it's all coming to a head. Saul's been a

  283. stinker, right? And so it's listing the

  284. tribes that are coming alongside David.

  285. In 1 Chronicles 12:32, it lists the sons

    1 Chronicles 12:32

  286. of Issachar.

  287. And this is 200 men. Say 200.

  288. >> 200 men that are uh listed among other

  289. tribes that are much larger. Ephereim's

  290. tribe was 20,800 men. Say that's a big

  291. tribe.

  292. That's That's a lot of guys. Zebulun's

  293. is 50,000 men showing up with their

  294. armor ready to fight. And Issachars is

  295. 200 men.

  296. Just 200 men. Uh my favorite tribe

  297. listed in there are the Benjamites.

  298. Yes.

  299. 3,000 men ready to fight

  300. and Issachar

  301. is 200. It's interesting that Issachar's

  302. 200 men are recognized as integral in

  303. the transferring of the kingdom from

  304. Saul from evil to the kingdom of the

  305. anointed one David to the kingdom of

  306. God. Amen. And it says this, the Bible

  307. credits them with understanding the

  308. times to know what Israel ought to do,

  309. understanding the times.

  310. And their contribution wasn't uh just

  311. raw strength and mere determination and

  312. and how many weapons we have and how man

  313. David, we're going to fight for you.

  314. I picture a little bit more of a meek

  315. disposition

  316. on the men of Issachar.

  317. They were accredited for having wisdom

  318. and discernment.

  319. It says all their kinsmen under their

  320. command followed their lead. I've listed

  321. just a few tribes. There were multiple

  322. tribes with thousands upon thousands of

  323. men. And these 200, the smallest tribe,

  324. the men of Issachar,

  325. all of the others followed because they

  326. had discernment and understanding to

  327. know what God was up to, what season

  328. they were in, and what they should do in

  329. that season. Amen.

  330. Spiritual discernment is what caused

  331. their victory. Can I say this? Don't

  332. fight the times that you're in. Amen.

  333. Don't fight the season that you're in.

  334. Embrace it. God, if this is the season,

  335. I'm going to walk through that. Man,

  336. it's is season I wouldn't have chose.

  337. But if this is the season that you laid

  338. before me, I'm going to do it with

  339. excellence

  340. because I know that it's working in me.

  341. Ecclesiastes says there's a time to

  342. weep,

  343. a time to laugh,

  344. a time to mourn,

  345. a time to dance.

  346. In the natural, we understand

  347. sensitivity and seasons.

  348. If you go to grandma's funeral and you

  349. go up front and you're overtaken with

  350. joy and start dancing, there's a problem

  351. with you. Amen. Or grandma was a very

  352. bad bad woman that nobody liked, right?

  353. One of the two is going on. But but but

  354. I mean a typical normal thing, man, you

  355. don't go up at a to a funeral and you're

  356. all excited and and man, I'm having fun.

  357. This is great. I'm going to start

  358. dancing and laughing,

  359. right? And sometimes in the spirit, we

  360. call it faith.

  361. It's a season of mourning. It's a season

  362. of opposition. It's a season of struggle

  363. and and I I just don't receive that. I

  364. just don't receive that. I'm going to

  365. put on my happy face and keep musling

  366. through.

  367. Sometimes there's a season to weep.

  368. Amen. Sometimes in prayer, I've dropped

  369. to my knees and the only thing I can do

  370. is cry.

  371. [clears throat]

  372. Have you been there?

  373. What season are you in?

  374. I want to unpack one specific season

  375. because my guess or the sense that I

  376. have is that we have a tendency to

  377. handle one better than the other.

  378. Number two in your notes is to develop

  379. in the wilderness.

  380. Develop

  381. in the wilderness. Let's talk about the

  382. season that nobody puts on their vision

  383. board, right? We don't we don't come up

  384. in January and go, "Man, we're going to

  385. have a great year, but uh month four is

  386. just going to be a nightmare,

  387. right?"

  388. Why don't we plan for things like that?

  389. We have an optimism. We just assume

  390. everything's going to kind of go as

  391. normal or go the direction we hoped.

  392. But sometimes when we least expect it,

  393. we find ourselves in a season of

  394. struggle,

  395. a season of wilderness.

  396. You ever been in a season where you felt

  397. like God was so distant from you?

  398. You ever prayed and cried out, "God,

  399. where in the world are you?" Amen. I

  400. want to do whatever you want me to do,

  401. but but I don't even have a clue what

  402. that is, and so I'm just asking you to

  403. show me or show up or whatever. Have you

  404. ever been in that season where it just

  405. felt like God was was distant?

  406. In contrast to some of the seasons where

  407. this powerful and God's blessing you and

  408. God's speaking to you and God's

  409. anointing things and all but all of a

  410. sudden we a transition happens in the

  411. spiritual realm and we can find

  412. ourselves going God what what's going

  413. on. It's kind of a wilderness season.

  414. [clears throat]

  415. Yeah. I was thinking about uh the way

  416. God designed bodies. Human bodies are

  417. very interesting. You know, people that

  418. are born without eyesight

  419. uh have a greater sense of hearing.

  420. Isn't that interesting?

  421. Because one isn't working. It's like the

  422. other one gets fine-tuned. And vice

  423. versa, man. If somebody's born without

  424. the ability to hear, their eyesight is

  425. impeccable, second to none.

  426. What if

  427. God dimmed your spiritual sight in this

  428. season not to punish you but to sharpen

  429. your hearing?

  430. Amen.

  431. Screaming out to God, God, give me my

  432. sight.

  433. God says, give me your ears. I have

  434. something to tell you.

  435. Walk by faith and not by sight. A lot of

  436. times we tend to beg God to restore what

  437. makes us comfortable.

  438. But God is interested in what makes us

  439. holy, what matures us, what strengthens

  440. us more than what makes us comfortable.

  441. Look at your neighbor and say, "Don't

  442. waste your wilderness."

  443. Every season has a purpose. Deuteronomy

  444. 8, uh, God led Israel into the

  445. wilderness.

  446. I want you to catch that for a minute.

  447. God led

  448. the children of Israel into the

  449. wilderness.

  450. God led them into the wilderness. A

  451. wilderness experience is not a bad

  452. thing. Sometimes it's a God- orained

  453. thing. The children of Israel, they've

  454. just gotten delivered out of freedom,

  455. out of out of slavery, out of the hand

  456. of Pharaoh. They're they're walking

  457. towards the promised land. And the only

  458. way to get there, God leads them to the

  459. wilderness. Amen. and provides for them.

  460. It does miracle after miracle. And

  461. commentators say that to to walk the

  462. wilderness to make it to the promised

  463. land is about 11-day walk.

  464. They spent 40 years wandering in the

  465. wilderness

  466. because of their complaining, their

  467. unbelief,

  468. lacking to trust God. Amen.

  469. Sometimes we'll be going through the

  470. season. God will lead us into this

  471. place. It's a wilderness place

  472. spiritually, emotionally,

  473. mentally,

  474. and it was only supposed to be 11 days.

  475. But we complain about it. We argue about

  476. it. We fall into spiritual victim

  477. mentality. Why me, God? Why?

  478. And God says, obviously, you're not

  479. ready

  480. for the blessing on the other side.

  481. What started

  482. for them as an assignment

  483. to get them to the promised land turned

  484. into a life sentence.

  485. Matthew 4, this Bible says that the

  486. spirit

  487. led Jesus

  488. into the wilderness

  489. to be tempted by the devil.

  490. This sounds like no fun, God. You know

  491. what I get tired of in American

  492. Christianity or Western Christianity is

  493. all the cupcakes and roses, right? Just

  494. have faith. There's do all this stuff.

  495. And there's there's a solid piece of

  496. that. But can I tell you, I've been

  497. serving God a little while now, and I've

  498. had more seasons of wilderness, seasons

  499. of opposition, seasons of struggles that

  500. God has brought me through that matured

  501. me. There was no other way to get there

  502. >> BUT TO GO THROUGH WHAT I NEEDED TO GO

  503. through to embrace the season that God

  504. had for me. Amen.

  505. I got saved.

  506. And I was pretty convinced that

  507. everybody lied to me in the church.

  508. Seriously, because I sat there and

  509. they're talking about, "Oh, just accept

  510. the Lord as your personal savior." And

  511. they presented it. Maybe it was just the

  512. way that I received it at the time

  513. because I was very unchurched. It's like

  514. everything's going to be perfect now.

  515. Everything's going to be good because

  516. you receive the Lord into your heart.

  517. Pray this prayer with me.

  518. Man, I was coming out of extreme

  519. addiction,

  520. crazy thinking, unhealthy. I had demons

  521. I didn't even know about. Man, my

  522. goodness. And to get me from there, even

  523. though I prayed the prayer, to a place

  524. that God was wanting me to be, a place

  525. of freedom, a place of power, man, it

  526. was quite a journey. Amen.

  527. That was just the beginning.

  528. I didn't share this in first service.

  529. When God was calling us to Fort Wayne,

  530. we were feeling

  531. a stirring

  532. and the founding pastor here,

  533. Pastor Larry and I met and we had an

  534. instant connection.

  535. God was ministering and he

  536. was asking the questions of my

  537. ministerial experience.

  538. Man, I was telling him of the heartache,

  539. the hurt, the betrayal.

  540. Anyone been in ministry for any length

  541. of time?

  542. We kind of he was pulling it out of me.

  543. He was asking all these right questions.

  544. And there was a point where he paused

  545. and he said, "Good." Because I don't

  546. want a man that hasn't been through it.

  547. That was a requirement that he had had

  548. that you have to have had experience

  549. failure. you have to experience hard

  550. seasons. And I said, man, Pastor Larry,

  551. I am your guy, brother.

  552. Yeah.

  553. Think about my pastor

  554. that so discipled me and poured into my

  555. life. I remember listening to him pray

  556. or listening to him speak. And there was

  557. something undeniable in his spirit,

  558. undeniable in his voice. There was

  559. something in me that goes, that's a

  560. general in the army of the Lord.

  561. That's a that's a warrior that's been

  562. through some things. To hear him talk

  563. about losing his first wife to cancer

  564. and all of the kids. How many kids did

  565. he have?

  566. >> Nine.

  567. >> Nine children, still minor children at

  568. home that all fell. He lost his wife to

  569. cancer at a young age. And he talking

  570. about all this stuff. And I go, man, he

  571. and he would say it. I had to go through

  572. what I had to go through to get to where

  573. God needed me to be. Amen.

  574. >> And I never want to approach a struggle

  575. season, a wilderness season, saying,

  576. "Oh, God, I don't think I'm interested.

  577. I'll stay in my comfort zone.

  578. I'll just stay comfortable over here.

  579. You'll get stuck. Embrace the season

  580. that God has you in."

  581. Job 23. Job was going through a season.

  582. Amen.

  583. Yeah, I thought about it. Uh

  584. God said,

  585. "Satan, have you considered my servant

  586. Job?"

  587. Man, [clears throat]

  588. they might not be back next Sunday.

  589. Pastor Dan, I'm not preaching health,

  590. wealth, and prosperity.

  591. Preaching reality. Amen.

  592. God says to Satan, "Have you considered

  593. that guy? He's doing everything right.

  594. Most righteous in the land. Have you

  595. considered him?" And all hell breaks

  596. loose on Job. Catch us. We're in chapter

  597. 23, a little further down the story.

  598. Amen. He's been going through it. Verse

  599. 8, Job says, "Behold." He says, "I go

  600. forward."

  601. But he's not there. referring to God.

  602. In other words, I I can't sense God. I

  603. can't hear God. I can't nothing. God, I

  604. just keep moving forward because somehow

  605. I know that God's got me. I can't sense

  606. him. He says I go forward, but he's not

  607. there. And backward, but I do not

  608. perceive him. On the left hand, when he

  609. is working, do you catch that?

  610. On the left hand, when he is working, I

  611. do not behold him.

  612. turns to the right, but I do not see

  613. him. But he knows the way that I take.

  614. When he has tried me, I shall come out

  615. as gold.

  616. Satan was loosed upon the man of God.

  617. And he says, "God, I can't see you. I

  618. can't feel you. I'm just moving forward.

  619. I kind of don't even know what I'm

  620. doing. I'm just just keep pressing in."

  621. And his declaration is, "He is working.

  622. He is working. Even when I don't see

  623. you, God, you're working. Even when I

  624. don't feel you, God, you're working.

  625. Because God is above all things.

  626. God, if you really loved me, you

  627. wouldn't let this happen to me. And God

  628. says, I do really love you. That's why

  629. I'm allowing it.

  630. Amen. Man, I almost started preaching.

  631. He's working.

  632. Even when I don't see him, even when I

  633. can't feel him, let's be honest, even

  634. when we start blaming him, God is still

  635. working.

  636. And where God is at work, that's the

  637. place the devil loves to come and play

  638. to mess with you. In the wilderness, the

  639. enemy shows up on schedule.

  640. He's only got two moves.

  641. And number one is to get you to quit on

  642. God.

  643. Where's your God now?

  644. I thought you were I thought you were

  645. blessed. I thought you were a royal

  646. priesthood chosen by Where's your God

  647. now? And as soon as we get in that place

  648. where God's stretching our faith and

  649. we're we're called just to press on and

  650. know that he's working even when we

  651. don't feel it, even when we don't see

  652. it, the enemy wants to show up. Get you

  653. to quit on God. Number two, to get you

  654. to sin against God.

  655. You don't feel loved by God. Well, you

  656. can feel loved by them.

  657. The enemy blurs the line between our

  658. needs

  659. and our wants.

  660. The wilderness is when God gives you

  661. what you need instead of what you want.

  662. Look at your neighbor and say, "Grow up.

  663. That was fun. I think some wives enjoyed

  664. that.

  665. >> Devil sometimes your own flesh convinces

  666. you needs convinces you that you need

  667. something when really it's just a want

  668. and he likes to dress it up in an urgent

  669. costume. You ever notice that?

  670. You need this and you need it now.

  671. You need this and you need it now. And

  672. exact exact opposite.

  673. Well, I've been going through it. I

  674. deserve it. So, I'm going to go out get

  675. sloshed tonight. I'm going to drinking

  676. with the girls. I'm going to let my hair

  677. down cuz it's been rough.

  678. [laughter]

  679. Pastoral counsel says stay home.

  680. You think you need it, but you're going

  681. to feel worse tomorrow about it. Amen.

  682. That wasn't in my notes. Hallelujah.

  683. The wilderness is no fun,

  684. but it's productive.

  685. It wasn't all meant to be fun. I didn't

  686. read all of the stories in scripture of

  687. the great men and women of faith and go,

  688. "Man, they had a lot of fun in this,

  689. didn't they?"

  690. As Abraham is getting ready to sacrifice

  691. his own. I mean, I look at all these

  692. stories. It's not It's not supposed to

  693. be fun. It's supposed to be productive.

  694. It's supposed to prepare you for

  695. something far greater than you. Amen.

  696. >> 1 Thessalonians 5:18 says this,

    1 Thessalonians 5:18

  697. "Give thanks,

  698. catch this, in all circumstances."

  699. That's easier said than done.

  700. Give thanks in all circumstances. For

  701. this is the will of God in Christ Jesus

  702. for you

  703. in all circumstances. The ones that you

  704. love, the ones that you hate, the ones

  705. that feel great, the ones that cause

  706. pain, give thanks in all circumstances.

  707. Even though I walk through the valley of

  708. the shadow of death, I will fear no

  709. evil. Amen.

  710. Because God is for me. And I want to

  711. straighten this text out because I've

  712. heard it misused multiple times by

  713. believers,

  714. even by preachers.

  715. It doesn't say give thanks for all

  716. things.

  717. It doesn't say give thanks for all

  718. things. It says give thanks in. Say in.

  719. >> Give thanks in all circumstances.

  720. I've heard people get the diagnosis of

  721. cancer

  722. and say, "God, thank you for this

  723. cancer."

  724. And I'm going, "What? What in the world

  725. are we doing?" No, no, no, no. I'm not

  726. thanking God for

  727. I'm thanking God in

  728. God. Even though I'm in the midst of

  729. this great trial, even though the

  730. diagnosis came in, even though I'm broke

  731. and I'm backward, even though I'm going

  732. through this horrible thing, I love you

  733. anyways. And God, I know you're for me

  734. anyways. And I'm praying for the peace

  735. of God that surpasses understanding cuz

  736. right now I don't understand. And I need

  737. peace that's bigger than my

  738. understanding. Amen.

  739. >> God, I'm going to thank you for it. It

  740. says, "Give thanks in all

  741. circumstances." This is the will of God

  742. in Christ Jesus for you

  743. in the trial

  744. in the wilderness.

  745. Be thankful.

  746. If we miss that gratitude piece, we'll

  747. end up bitter in the trial. Amen.

  748. Further away from God in the trial.

  749. Number three in your notes is decrease

  750. the delay.

  751. decrease the delay.

  752. Here's my experience.

  753. I can't avoid the wilderness seasons

  754. that God has ordained,

  755. but I can't extend it.

  756. Amen. 11 days can turn into 40 years.

  757. The wilderness

  758. for the children of Israel wasn't a

  759. detour.

  760. It was a divine route.

  761. But 40 years wasn't on God's calendar.

  762. 11 days was.

  763. It was a result

  764. of continuous complaining

  765. in the season. I know. I'm sorry.

  766. Was it because I was yelling?

  767. Continuous complaining, unbelief,

  768. refusal to trust God's process,

  769. seeing the value of getting me from here

  770. to there.

  771. God scheduled a productive

  772. journey.

  773. Their

  774. bad attitude turned it into a life

  775. sentence.

  776. You can write this down. The wilderness

  777. is preparation,

  778. not punishment.

  779. The enemy wants to confuse the two.

  780. Wilderness is preparation, not

  781. punishment. I got to share this. I'm

  782. preaching this because this is what God

  783. put on my heart. But I'm preaching it

  784. because I've watched so many fall away

  785. in a season of wilderness because they

  786. believe that it was punishment or they

  787. believe some some lie from the enemy

  788. about the season that they were going

  789. through instead of embracing it and

  790. walking through it with the joy of the

  791. Lord.

  792. David was anointed king as a teenager.

  793. He spent 15, almost 15 years hiding in

  794. caves,

  795. running from Saul, trying to kill him.

  796. He was anointed king, but homeless.

  797. Amen.

  798. And God was doing something in David in

  799. that season to prepare him to be a king

  800. of Israel that we're talking about 3,000

  801. years later.

  802. H

  803. Joseph

  804. in the Bible had this dream of royalty

  805. God had revealed to him and this is how

  806. his journey went. He went to the pit

  807. potterer's house then to prison

  808. on the way to the palace.

  809. Yeah. Nobody posts their prison stay on

  810. Instagram, do they?

  811. Picture Joseph in there. Come on.

  812. [laughter]

  813. Rocking prison.

  814. Yeah. And we're going through it.

  815. But God did something in Joseph

  816. through all of those that prepared him

  817. for the palace.

  818. Sometimes God will show you the palace

  819. in a dream. so that we can survive the

  820. pit on the way. Amen.

  821. So your attitude will either expedite

  822. or extend your wilderness experience.

  823. Sometimes

  824. we're on lap 14 around the same mountain

  825. coming back to the same lesson. It's

  826. just a different year

  827. because every time God tries to refine

  828. us, we grumble our way back to the

  829. starting place.

  830. Uh oh.

  831. You guys still love me?

  832. >> Number four in your notes is decide to

  833. obey. Say decide.

  834. >> We play spiritual victim sometimes.

  835. We're going through the rough place.

  836. We're going, man, we can sense

  837. something's different. It's a season of

  838. morning. whatever this season is that

  839. God has brought us to

  840. and

  841. we act like victim like we don't have a

  842. choice in how we handle it and the flesh

  843. is a cause and response.

  844. Amen.

  845. If uh you talk to me this way, I'm going

  846. to respond that way. It happens every

  847. time without fail. If this happens in my

  848. life, I go do this. If that happens in

  849. my life, I go do that. Anyone old enough

  850. to watch your own patterns?

  851. >> Yeah. The good, the bad, the ugly.

  852. Maturity in Christianity by the spirit

  853. says, "Yeah, this happened, but I'm

  854. going to hand it to God and see what God

  855. would have me to do in this season. I'm

  856. not just going to react the way that I

  857. always have. Yeah, it's bad. Yeah, it

  858. stinks. Doesn't mean I have to go do

  859. whatever that is.

  860. Amen.

  861. And I want to say this. We're talking

  862. about

  863. spiritual maturity.

  864. We're spirit beings. You guys know that

  865. you're spiritual before you're natural.

  866. And just like

  867. natural growth,

  868. we're meant to grow spiritually, not be

  869. stagnant and stale and seized in our

  870. growing.

  871. Natural growth

  872. is mostly a function of time.

  873. I've never seen a 6'3 first grader. Have

  874. you? And what happens, man? I got nieces

  875. and nephews. And if you don't you don't

  876. see kids for a while and you come back

  877. and you're like, "Holy cow, man. How

  878. long have I been gone? Little stinkers

  879. grew right up on me, right? It's a

  880. function of time, that natural growth.

  881. And then we finally get to our fullness

  882. of height and our fullness of stature,

  883. all this stuff. And then sometimes in

  884. our 40s and 50s we we time makes a

  885. little more natural growth, right?

  886. But growth, natural growth is a function

  887. of time.

  888. Intellectual growth isn't necessarily a

  889. function of time.

  890. Time is a factor, but I've seen 14y olds

  891. that have their high school diploma and

  892. getting ready to go to college. And I've

  893. known 60 year old men that didn't have

  894. their GED yet. Amen.

  895. So intellectual growth is a function of

  896. learning,

  897. not only a function of time. Spiritual

  898. growth is neither.

  899. Yes, time and learning can be a factor.

  900. But it's not only time.

  901. I've known people that were saved one

  902. year that were more spiritually mature

  903. than some that were saved 30 years.

  904. Amen.

  905. It's not just a function of learning.

  906. And Jesus stood face to face with the

  907. Pharisees. Now, the Pharisees uh knew

  908. the all of the Old Testament prophecies.

  909. They'd have them the scriptures

  910. memorized and they knew every detail

  911. about the coming Messiah and they stood

  912. face to face with the Messiah that came

  913. and completely missed him. They were so

  914. confused

  915. that they were determined to kill him

  916. and crucify him.

  917. So spiritual growth isn't a function of

  918. learning.

  919. Man, I have known some really smart

  920. stupid people.

  921. You guys too like the intellectual is

  922. just like wow man this guy's geniusprone

  923. but I don't know if he can tie his own

  924. shoes by himself you know.

  925. Yeah

  926. it's not just learning.

  927. So the question I have is what causes

  928. spiritual growth?

  929. How do we mature?

  930. You might not like the answer.

  931. First Peter chapter 4 and verse one says

    1 Peter 4 chapter mention

  932. this.

  933. He who has suffered in the flesh

  934. has ceized from sin.

  935. He who has suffered in the flesh

  936. has ceized from sin. That little portion

  937. cease from sin is very interesting in

  938. the original language and how it's used

  939. in other areas of scripture.

  940. But it doesn't just mean that I stop

  941. sinning. It has a much stronger

  942. connection to spiritual maturity. I have

  943. the spirit so much so that I refuse to

  944. sin.

  945. I have the goodness of God on the inside

  946. of me that that I look at and I can't

  947. even consider going that direction.

  948. They have seized from sin. Catch this.

  949. He who suffered in the flesh

  950. has ceased from sin.

  951. But plenty of people

  952. suffer

  953. and come out bitter, not better. Amen.

  954. So suffering alone isn't the answer. But

  955. catch this. Hebrews chapter 5 and verse

    Hebrews 5 chapter mention

  956. 8

  957. referring to Jesus though he was a son.

  958. He learned obedience. Say learned.

  959. He learned obedience through the things

  960. he suffered.

  961. There it is.

  962. One can suffer and come out bitter.

  963. Jesus suffers and comes out better. He

  964. learned obedience through the things

  965. that he was suffering. In other words,

  966. the season that God had him in, man,

  967. there were some seasons where he's

  968. raising Lazarus from the dead, where he

  969. he blind eyes are being able to see

  970. again. He's had some amazing seasons,

  971. but he had some seasons where he's

  972. sweating great drops of blood in the

  973. garden of Gethsemane. He had some

  974. seasons where he's being nailed to a

  975. tree that he created. Amen.

  976. And he learned obedience in those

  977. seasons because his heart was towards

  978. the father.

  979. Lord, if there's any way for this cup to

  980. pass, let's do that. But father, your

  981. will be done. And in that season of

  982. struggle, in that season of opposition,

  983. in that season of suffering, that's the

  984. heart. We turn to the father and say,

  985. "God, I don't fully understand what all

  986. is going on here. And Lord, if there's

  987. any other way, let's do that." But but

  988. my declaration is, Lord, I'll walk

  989. through what you want me to walk

  990. through.

  991. Spiritual maturity, spiritual growth.

  992. So we grow spiritually

  993. when we obey the father in the midst of

  994. suffering.

  995. Suffering is the context.

  996. Obedience is the catalyst.

  997. The wilderness doesn't automatically

  998. grow you.

  999. It's obedience in the wilderness.

1000. Your attitude in the wilderness. Catch

  1001. this. your gratitude

  1002. in the wilderness.

1003. That's how we grow spiritually.

1004. Two people can go through the same

1005. thing, same trial. It's identical.

1006. One can come out further away from God.

1007. One can come out spiritually

  1008. strengthened and mature.

1009. The trial wasn't the difference. The

  1010. obedience was.

1011. I don't want you leaving here just

  1012. informed.

1013. I want you leaving here equipped for

  1014. real battle. Amen.

  1015. Here's what I also know about

1016. the wilderness or these seasons of

  1017. struggle.

1018. The wilderness was never meant to be

  1019. walked alone.

  1020. Amen.

1021. It was never meant to be walked alone.

  1022. And Moses

1023. had Aaron and her holding his arms up.

1024. He got weak in the battle

1025. going through this struggle going, "Man,

1026. I want to do it. I want to be strong

1027. enough, but guys, I'm just not."

1028. And I got to tell you, I am so grateful

1029. for men and women of faith in my life.

1030. Know how many times I've leaned on my

1031. wife going, "Hun, I just don't have it.

  1032. I just I'm being very honest. I'm being

1033. very real. I'm going through a season

1034. right now. I'm going through a struggle.

1035. I'm thankful for Pastor Dan, for other

1036. ones that can hold my arms up when I go,

  1037. man, here's my little white flag. I I've

1038. been given everything I got and God

1039. brought me to this place. Feels like a

1040. cloud came over me and I need somebody

1041. just to help me out a little bit. Amen.

1042. And you're not called to be a spiritual

1043. superman doing everything on your own.

  1044. We're called to community.

1045. We're called to love one another,

1046. encourage one another, hold each other

  1047. up.

1048. Can I challenge you when you're going

1049. through it? Find somebody that loves God

1050. more than you. Say, "Man, I'm hurting.

  1051. I'm I'm I'm in a struggle season.

1052. Will you pray with me?"

1053. We don't even have to get spiritual. You

1054. just sit and listen. Let me dump my junk

1055. on you for a minute.

1056. Sometimes that's all we needed.

  1057. Amen.

1058. Can I encourage you when you're going

1059. through a good season and you see a

1060. brother or sister in need that's that's

1061. struggling that's go going through it.

1062. Don't be critical and distant.

  1063. Yeah. That she's always depressed. She's

1064. always going through something. Let's

1065. not invite them. Invite them. Love on

1066. them. encourage them. Amen. Call them

1067. because there'll be a season. You might

1068. not be in it today, but there'll be a

1069. season that you wish a believer would

1070. have saw you and saw your hurt and

1071. called you or invited you. Amen.

1072. Well, praise [music] the Lord.

  1073. Paul had Barnabas.

  1074. David had Jonathan.

  1075. Who do you have?

1076. Sometimes we need to drop our walls and

  1077. let others in. Amen.

1078. I'll ask the worship team to join me up

  1079. here.

  1080. Here's

  1081. what I've learned.

1082. Every [music] season has a purpose.

1083. God does not waste time.

1084. Every little nuance, every inflection.

1085. God is bigger than it all.

1086. Every season has a purpose. [music] And

1087. catch this. It's for you.

1088. It's for you. Amen. [music]

1089. The question isn't do I like the season

  1090. I'm in.

1091. The question is is am I obeying God in

  1092. the middle of it?

  1093. Am I grateful

1094. in the middle of it?

1095. We can stand to our feet all over this

  1096. house.

  1097. >> [music]

  1098. >> My sense

  1099. is that some

1100. in here are in a type of wilderness

  1101. season,

1102. a season of opposition or struggle.

1103. Maybe it's a season where it just feels

  1104. spiritually stale.

1105. Here's my word to you. Don't waste your

  1106. wilderness.

1107. and don't outlast your stay.

  1108. Amen.

  1109. God's preparing you

  1110. for a season

1111. on the other side of that struggle

1112. that will overwhelm you with goodness.

  1113. 2 Corinthians 4

    2 Corinthians 4:17

  1114. verse 17. And

1115. I want you to receive this word.

1116. The Bible says, "For this light

  1117. momentary affliction

1118. is preparing for us an eternal weight of

  1119. glory beyond all comparison.

  1120. this light

  1121. momentary

  1122. affliction

1123. from reading this scripture in context.

1124. I don't think it was light [music] and

  1125. momentary.

1126. I think it was weighty and lengthy. I

1127. think it was a struggle. But I think by

1128. faith the individual saw that this life

1129. is but a mister of vapor in the eyes of

1130. eternity. And though it feels so long

1131. and so hard down here, when we put our

1132. eyes on heaven, when we fix our eyes on

1133. Jesus, we recognize it as this light and

1134. momentary struggle. Catch this. It's

1135. [music] working for us. An eternal

1136. weight of glory. Someday I'm going to

1137. pass from this life and into the next,

1138. and I'm going to understand and see what

1139. it was all for. But sometimes in this

1140. life, I'll never understand what God was

  1141. up to.

  1142. 1 Peter chapter 1

    1 Peter 1:6

1143. verse 6 and I'll close with this

  1144. scripture

1145. says in this you rejoice

1146. though now for a little while

1147. say a little while a little while though

1148. now for a little while if necessary

1149. you have been grieved by various trials

1150. so that the tested The genuiness of your

1151. faith, more precious than gold, that

  1152. perishes,

1153. though it is tested by fire, may be

1154. found to result in praise and glory

1155. and honor at the revelation

  1156. of Jesus Christ.

1157. Father, we thank you Lord for freedom.

1158. I thank you God for the call on our

1159. lives that God we can walk through fire.

1160. We can walk through wind. We can walk

1161. through rain. And Lord, we can still

1162. trust you in the midst of it. Father,

1163. that we can have a faith that goes

1164. beyond anything we see on this earth.

1165. Any feeling that we feel, God.

1166. Lord, I thank you for every soul in this

  1167. room.

  1168. Grateful

1169. for the seasons that you have us in,

  1170. Lord.

1171. I pray specifically for those that are

1172. going through a struggle season.

1173. God, today we receive faith,

  1174. encouragement, conviction,

1175. comfort, and counsel to move us forward

1176. in the midst of the season.

  1177. Father, I thank you that you're not a

  1178. distant father

1179. that sees us in a spirit of hurt or a

1180. spirit of mourning and leaves us alone.

1181. But Father, we're thankful God that you

1182. are the God of all love, of all comfort.

1183. And Father, when you see your children

1184. hurting, you run to them and comfort

1185. them. And Father, we pray that we would

1186. be vulnerable enough to receive your

  1187. warm embrace.

1188. So, Father, I pray blessing over every

  1189. household,

1190. over every man, woman, and child, God,

1191. that we would come through it and come

1192. out on the other side,

  1193. stronger,

  1194. more mature, victorious,

1195. and ready for the season ahead. So,

1196. Father, bless each one. We pray in Jesus

  1197. name. Amen.

1198. We're going to have the prayer team up

1199. here and we're going to worship a little

1200. while. But I want to invite you

1201. whatever you're going through. If

  1202. there's a

1203. season that you're going through and

  1204. you're going, "Man, I think I've been

1205. complaining more than I've been

  1206. praising."

1207. Or, "I don't think I was giving God the

1208. credit for the bad seasons."

1209. Whatever that is, I want to invite you.

1210. I want you to know that this altar is

1211. open to come do business with heaven.

1212. Maybe you're in this place and you felt

1213. challenged or stirred by the spirit to

1214. give your life to Jesus Christ to pray

1215. that prayer and say, "I'm ready to go

1216. allin. I'm ready to be serious serving

1217. God." I want to invite you to come and

1218. let us pray salvation over you. Amen.

1219. Praise the Lord. Our altars are open.
