  1. Hey, welcome to Grace Summit Church

  2. podcast. We're so glad you're here.

  3. We're all about helping people know

  4. Jesus, grow in their faith, and live out

  5. his love every day. No matter where

  6. you're at in your faith journey, our

  7. prayer is that this message helps you

  8. know Jesus more and live with greater

  9. purpose and conviction. Let's jump in.

  10. >> Oh my goodness, Grace Summit Church. How

  11. we feeling today?

  12. >> Hallelujah. It's a good day to be alive,

  13. isn't it?

  14. >> It's a good day to be a Christian

  15. >> and in the house of God.

  16. >> Sorry, that was crooked. Praise the

  17. Lord. Hey, if you're a first- time guest

  18. with us, my name is Ben. I have the

  19. opportunity to serve as lead pastor

  20. here. And can I say thank you for

  21. choosing Grace Summit Church this

  22. morning. A lot of churches in the in the

  23. city of churches. Amen.

  24. >> But hey, we're going to dive in the word

  25. of God. Are you guys excited for the

  26. word?

  27. >> What? What happened there?

  28. >> You guys excited for the word of God?

  29. >> Praise the Lord. Pray with me. Father,

  30. we thank you Lord for revival breaking

  31. loose on the inside of our spirit.

  32. Father, we thank you Lord for stirring

  33. us aresh today. Father, we didn't come

  34. to hear words from men, but Father, we

  35. came to hear from heaven. And so, Lord,

  36. I pray that your anointing, Father,

  37. would be upon the preaching of your

  38. word. Praise you, Jesus. Father, I thank

  39. you for the spirit of the living God

  40. dwelling in this place. Lord, tune our

  41. ears to heaven. Let us hear what the

  42. spirit says to the church. We pray now

  43. in Jesus name. Amen. Here's the sense

  44. that I have in my spirit this morning.

  45. Somebody needs to hear this. There's a

  46. scripture that says, "No weapon formed

  47. against me shall prosper."

  48. >> Amen.

  49. >> No weapon formed against me shall

  50. prosper. You know, the enemy is busy and

  51. the enemy is after us and he'll continue

  52. to throw darts at us and to mess with

  53. us. I don't know what your week is like.

  54. Last week we talked about seasons and we

  55. talked about uh kind of suffering and

  56. obedience and suffering and then all of

  57. those different things. But I got to

  58. tell you, I've had a lot of people come

  59. to me this past week talking about the

  60. opposition, the struggles, the hurts.

  61. And here's my declaration.

  62. No weapon formed against me shall

  63. prosper. You are a child of the king.

  64. Amen. And I don't know what kind of

  65. fathers we have in this space, but if

  66. somebody messes with my children, old

  67. papa bear shows up. Amen,

  68. man. I'm saved, but I'll smack you. I

  69. need you to know.

  70. Don't be messing with my babies.

  71. >> Amen.

  72. >> And we are children of the most high

  73. God. And the father doesn't let the

  74. enemy just mess with kids. No weapon

  75. formed against me shall prosper.

  76. My goodness. You know, this last week,

  77. uh maybe even the end of last week and

  78. at the beginning of this week, God was

  79. ministering to me in my spirit. And

  80. initially, I thought it was just for me.

  81. And then we had this amazing staff

  82. meeting. Man, we were downtown and all

  83. sitting out at the restaurant and and

  84. having just a nice time. And as I began

  85. to speak, God quickened it in my spirit

  86. that this is also for our staff.

  87. And then we had some conversations with

  88. my family and then I started to go, "Oh,

  89. I think this is for my family as well."

  90. And as I was praying and preparing what

  91. God would have me to share this morning,

  92. I think it's for you.

  93. >> Amen.

  94. >> Say, "It's for me."

  95. >> It's for me.

  96. >> Title of the message this morning is

  97. what's God and what's not. What God

  98. ministered to me this past week is that

  99. in this next season, God is challenging

  100. me to be laser focused, to be very

  101. intentional on who I'm allowing into my

  102. life, what I'm allowing into my life,

  103. and when I'm allowing things into my

  104. life.

  105. You know, this life is but a mister of

  106. vapor

  107. in the eyes of eternity. That's what my

  108. Bible says. The time is short. It's too

  109. short to be distracted, to be

  110. sidetracked, to be caught off guard.

  111. Amen. But I think in this season, God is

  112. asking us to have laser focus. Hebrews

  113. 12 and verse one is where we'll start

  114. this morning.

  115. The Bible says, "Therefore, since we are

  116. surrounded, say surrounded."

  117. >> Surrounded. surrounded by so great a

  118. cloud of witnesses. Let's pause there.

  119. Who is this cloud of witnesses?

  120. Yeah, this is Hebrews 12. Hebrews 11

  121. tells the story. It's the heroes of

  122. faith. And so, it's going through

  123. Abraham and Moses and all the different

  124. heroes that we read about in the Old

  125. Testament. It says since we're

  126. surrounded by such a great cloud of

  127. witnesses. Now, I want to pull back the

  128. veil a little bit in the spiritual

  129. realm. I've studied the Bible for a

  130. little bit. If you pull back the veil,

  131. there is a balcony in heaven of saints

  132. that have gone before us

  133. >> that are watching you. Amen.

  134. >> Not to mention, the Bible talks about

  135. ministering angels among us.

  136. How quickly the enemy can get us so

  137. focused on the here and now in the world

  138. we live in with the schedules and the

  139. stuff that we forget that somebody's

  140. watching.

  141. Therefore, since we are surrounded by so

  142. great a cloud of witnesses,

  143. let us lay also aside every weight and

  144. sin that clings so closely. Catch this.

  145. And let us run with endurance the race

  146. that is set before us.

  147. Moses had his race. Abraham had his

  148. race.

  149. And you have your race. Amen. And if you

  150. look in the Old Testament, man, Abraham

  151. and Moses and all the different ones,

  152. Joseph, man, they all had a different

  153. race to run. They lived at different

  154. seasons, different times. And that's why

  155. we get to read the multiple stories

  156. because there's no two stories alike. Do

  157. you know that you have a specific race

  158. that God has set before you to run? Say,

  159. "My race,

  160. >> my race."

  161. >> Let us run with endurance the race

  162. set before us. Verse two, looking to

  163. Jesus,

  164. the founder and perfector of our faith.

  165. Can I say that you'll never successfully

  166. run your race if you're allowing

  167. everyone and everything to influence

  168. you?

  169. It says, "Looking unto Jesus, the author

  170. and the finisher, the founder and the

  171. perfector of our faith,

  172. who for the joy set before him endured

  173. the cross, despising the shame and

  174. seated and is seated at the right hand

  175. of the throne of God."

  176. I think it's a fair question to ask this

  177. morning. Who's calling the shots in your

  178. life?

  179. Amen. You know, we do it at salvation.

  180. We go, man. We pray and Jesus, I receive

  181. you as Lord of my life. And then and

  182. then something happens where the enemy

  183. shows up uh a year later, a couple years

  184. later or 30 years later. And and and the

  185. question is is he actually lord over

  186. your life? Who calls the shots? Who

  187. makes your calendar? Who sets your

  188. budget?

  189. Oh man, I just felt some toes curl back

  190. a little bit.

  191. Colossians chapter 3 23.

    Colossians 3 chapter mention

  192. Whatever you do, that's a pretty wide

  193. canvas.

  194. Whatever you do, work hardily.

  195. That means with all of your heart,

  196. as for the Lord and not for men.

  197. As for the Lord and not for men. Who do

  198. you work for? With all of your heart.

  199. Says, "Work heartily as for the Lord,

  200. not for men. knowing that from the Lord

  201. you will receive the inheritance

  202. as your reward. You're serving the Lord

  203. Christ.

  204. You know, when you work for a

  205. corporation,

  206. depending on who you're working for,

  207. they set and establish your salary. They

  208. set your vacation days. They have

  209. standards on how many breaks each day

  210. you take, uh what overtime looks like,

  211. all of those different things.

  212. If we position ourselves

  213. as children of the most high God and

  214. say, "God, you're Lord of my life. I

  215. work heartily unto the Lord, not unto

  216. men." What it means is that Jim in

  217. corporate is no longer your boss. Now,

  218. listen, Christians should be the best

  219. employees on the planet. Amen. But what

  220. I'm saying is there's a position. First,

  221. I serve God and God calls the shots.

  222. Sometimes God's telling me to take a

  223. break and I don't want to take a break.

  224. And then he says, "But you need a

  225. break." Amen.

  226. Working as unto the Lord, we fix our

  227. eyes upon Jesus. I look to him to be the

  228. master of my life. I need you to hear

  229. this. Jesus is not a side dish.

  230. He's not an addition to your life. He is

  231. Lord over your life. And he set the race

  232. before me. Colossians 3 calls for

  233. wholehearted service to the Lord. But

  234. it's interesting that John 15 talks

  235. about abiding in him. That fruit comes

  236. from abiding, not striving. So what does

  237. it look like to work heartily to the

  238. Lord? Sometimes we get confused. We go,

  239. man, I got to I got to work with all my

  240. heart and I got to just keep going and

  241. keep going and keep going and keep

  242. going. And when I was young in ministry,

  243. that's what I did. Kept going, kept

  244. going. There's more. There's more.

  245. There's more. Can I tell you I'm not

  246. preaching some idea that I read about.

  247. I'm preaching something that I've lived

  248. through. I've been through spiritual

  249. burnout three times in my life. And I

  250. don't mean we need to take the weekend

  251. off. I mean I can't get out of bed in

  252. the morning. I mean that there's a dark

  253. cloud of depression hanging over my

  254. life. I mean that eldership had to step

  255. in and I had to take three months off to

  256. recoup because I didn't know how to say

  257. no.

  258. Amen.

  259. Working heartily as unto the Lord does

  260. not mean doing everything for everyone.

  261. What it does mean, it means abiding in

  262. him and bearing fruit, catching the

  263. rhythm of the spirit. And what the Bible

  264. talks about being led by the spirit. The

  265. Bible says, "The steps of a good man are

  266. ordered by the Lord." That means my

  267. steps are ordained by him. Amen. I'm

  268. just talking to you Christianity 101.

  269. Are you serving him? Is he your master?

  270. Is he lord over your life? And I think

  271. one of the number one things the enemy

  272. does is to try to get everything else to

  273. influence us to be our master. I want to

  274. give you two words today. One we're

  275. going to spend a little more time on,

  276. but the first word is sanctification.

  277. Good old Bible word.

  278. Sanctification. It means set apart from

  279. sin. It's a two-part definition. and set

  280. apart from sin first and then delivered

  281. to God. Consecration is a little

  282. different. They're similar in nature,

  283. but consecration is to dedicate or to be

  284. set apart for sacred use, divine

  285. purpose. Amen. I know what kind of house

  286. you grew up in. Did anyone grow up in a

  287. house with a mother that had certain

  288. things for everyone and then certain

  289. things only for guests?

  290. >> You guys know what I'm talking about?

  291. Like the like the certain plates, the

  292. china, right? That's only for guests.

  293. And if you grew up in my house, we had

  294. five kids and we were bad little kids,

  295. man. As soon as mom would leave, we get

  296. the good china out and we'd be eating

  297. spaghetti os off of it cuz we weren't

  298. supposed to. Yeah. Tell us not to now,

  299. mom. And we're getting all that, you

  300. know. Yeah.

  301. The good towels. You know the good

  302. towels? Anyone grow up in a house that

  303. had dessert that sat there, but it was

  304. only for guests?

  305. >> Walk by with a sweet tooth.

  306. Soon as the guest would co show up, we

  307. don't even care who it is. Get the cake

  308. out.

  309. Yeah.

  310. See, they were dedicated for a specific

  311. purpose. And I want to say this that

  312. sanctification and consecration are

  313. separate from salvation. You can be

  314. saved and not sanctified. Amen. You can

  315. be saved and not consecrated.

  316. >> Because you prayed a prayer back in

  317. 1984, gave my doesn't mean you're

  318. consecrated, man.

  319. >> Amen.

  320. set apart,

  321. dedicated for a holy purpose.

  322. Consecration is when we're no longer for

  323. common use, but we're set apart for a

  324. holy cause, a specific purpose,

  325. a divine purpose.

  326. What this doesn't mean is that you leave

  327. your job and become a missionary

  328. or a preacher

  329. dedicating my life to God. I'm going to

  330. be in service to God. That doesn't mean

  331. that. It means where you are now, where

  332. you work now, becomes your mission

  333. field.

  334. >> Yes.

  335. >> Amen.

  336. >> And I gotta tell you, life looks

  337. radically different when you catch this

  338. revelation that my life is his and he's

  339. Lord of my life

  340. and I'm called where he set me and

  341. that's my mission field. Amen.

  342. Today, I want to give you four ways to

  343. consecrate.

  344. Four ways to live the consecrated life.

  345. Number one is receive the assignment.

  346. Receive the assignment. First, we have

  347. to understand what the assignment is.

  348. And man, there's a lot in here. Uh we

  349. could spend the next six months

  350. unpacking the assignments that are laid

  351. out in here, the great commission and

  352. and all the different things, but I want

  353. to zero in on one as it pertains to the

  354. topic at hand. Ephesians chapter 5 and

    Ephesians 5 chapter mention

  355. verse 18 says, "Be filled with the

  356. spirit."

  357. Be filled with the spirit. The Bible

  358. says that we are the temple of the Holy

  359. Spirit. That the Holy Spirit dwells on

  360. the inside of us. The Bible challenges

  361. us to be led by the spirit because we

  362. are the sons of God. Amen.

  363. >> Ephesians 5, it says, "Be filled with

  364. the spirit." That's a present tense verb

  365. in the original Greek. What it doesn't

  366. mean is

  367. many years ago, I had somebody pray over

  368. me and I received the Holy Spirit.

  369. What it means is that daily I'm going,

  370. "God, fill me with your spirit." As I'm

  371. face to face in that moment that seems a

  372. little bit too much to me, I'm saying,

  373. "God, fill me with the spirit." Before I

  374. stand up here and preach, I'm saying,

  375. "God, fill me with your spirit."

  376. It's present tense. Amen.

  377. An ongoing reality of our life. John

    John 7:38

  378. chapter 7

  379. verse 38, Jesus said, "Whoever believes

  380. in me," say believe.

  381. as the scripture has said out of his

  382. heart will flow rivers of living water.

  383. Now this he said about the spirit whom

  384. those who believed in him were to

  385. receive for as yet the spirit had not

  386. been given because Jesus was not yet

  387. glorified.

  388. Be filled with the spirit.

  389. It's interesting that we see the word

  390. believe in there tied with this rivers

  391. of living water the holy spirit flowing

  392. in our lives. Why is it that American

  393. Christianity has simplified believing

  394. with salvation?

  395. Believe in your heart that God raised

  396. Jesus from the dead. Thou shalt be

  397. saved. Right? And while that's true,

  398. there's more things that happen when you

  399. authentically believe in the same God

  400. that I believe in.

  401. >> And rivers of living water flowing from

  402. your belly. Jesus said the Holy Spirit

  403. infiltrating your life, infiltrating

  404. your job, infiltrating your marriage,

  405. infiltrating your relationship with your

  406. children. Let the Holy Spirit free.

  407. Amen.

  408. >> But see, we're too civilized.

  409. We're too We're too conscious of what of

  410. the people around us. We're concerned

  411. about what they'll think and what they

  412. say. All these different things are

  413. influencing our life instead of giving

  414. ourselves to the lordship of Jesus

  415. Christ. I'm really believing on you.

  416. I almost started preaching.

  417. Whoever believes in me. Isn't that

  418. interesting?

  419. Rivers of living water.

  420. So what does that mean to be filled with

  421. the spirit? Man, I've been in some

  422. church circles. Hallelujah.

  423. Filled with the spirit means, oh, Pastor

  424. Dan, you've been there, too. We

  425. wiggling.

  426. >> Oh, man. There's a preacher spitting on

  427. us and somebody's talking in tongues.

  428. I'm full of the Holy Ghost.

  429. >> Is that being filled with the spirit,

  430. man? Getting filled with the spirit.

  431. Lindsay be up here flopping like bacon.

  432. Yeah, this one right here. You got to

  433. watch this one. She'd be running around

  434. with a flag doing victory laps.

  435. Is that being filled with the spirit?

  436. I don't know.

  437. I think being filled with the spirit

  438. means producing fruit by the spirit.

  439. That love, that joy, that peace, that

  440. patience, that gentleness, that

  441. goodness, that self-control.

  442. I think that's evidence of the spirit.

  443. Amen. And yeah, there's spiritual gifts

  444. that come along with that that God might

  445. use you in a powerful way in a specific

  446. moment. Conscious of that. But it's

  447. interesting in theology, there's a law

  448. of first mention.

  449. Teaching you guys today, the law of

  450. first mention. What it says is that the

  451. first time that it's mentioned in the

  452. Bible is the most significant time that

  453. it was mentioned in the Bible. Amen.

  454. Well, let's look at the first time the

  455. Bible cites somebody being filled

  456. with the spirit. Exodus chapter 31.

    Exodus 31 chapter mention

  457. This is, if you're familiar with the

  458. text,

  459. God is giving Moses the blueprints for

  460. the tabernacle.

  461. It's powerful place where people could

  462. worship. It's one of the most incredible

  463. construction

  464. sites that have ever been in human

  465. history because it was designed by God

  466. for God for the holiness of God to dwell

  467. in the Holy of Holies. Amen. So God's

  468. been giving these blueprints in Exodus

  469. 31 and verse two says this. See this is

  470. God speaking. I have called by name

  471. Bezale, son of Uri, son of her, of the

  472. tribe of Judah. And I have filled him

  473. with the spirit of God. Did you catch

  474. catch that?

  475. I have filled him with the spirit of God

  476. with ability and intelligence with

  477. knowledge and all craftsmanship to

  478. devise artistic designs

  479. to work in gold, silver and bronze and

  480. cutting stones for setting and in

  481. carving wood to work in every craft.

  482. So wait a minute, the first person that

  483. got filled with the spirit, God didn't

  484. fill him with the spirit so he could be

  485. a a great prophet to the land and preach

  486. his word. didn't anoint him and fill him

  487. with the spirit to be a king and lead a

  488. great nation to lead the nation of

  489. Israel.

  490. You mean that God the first time that

  491. it's mentioned that somebody was filled

  492. with the spirit, we're talking about a

  493. blueco collar worker?

  494. I'm picturing a guy with ripped blue

  495. jeans and dirt under his nails. Amen.

  496. >> Just a common guy. And God's speaking

  497. this to Moses saying, "Listen, I filled

  498. this guy with the spirit of God." Amen.

  499. I I anointed him with intelligence, with

  500. wisdom, with understanding.

  501. First anointing of the Holy Spirit in

  502. scripture

  503. didn't fall on what in America we

  504. consider clergy

  505. or those serving in ministry. I got to

  506. clear something up. It aggravates me

  507. when people in the church world talk

  508. about this vast difference between

  509. clergy and ley.

  510. Well, I'm just a lay worker. I'm just

  511. ley. But there's the spiritual. There's

  512. the man of God there.

  513. Read your Bible. There's no such thing

  514. as ley in scripture. Amen. All are

  515. called. All are chosen. All have a

  516. specific race to run. all have the

  517. opportunity to be used by God in a

  518. powerful way in every arena.

  519. Man, we need spiritfilled people

  520. everywhere.

  521. Too many people think, well, just doing

  522. my 9 to5,

  523. just doing my job, just paying my bills

  524. till I get to heaven. Hallelujah.

  525. You're called to ministry.

  526. Amen. You're called to men. I don't care

  527. if it's in the nursing home,

  528. on the truck route,

  529. wherever it is.

  530. You're called. And the opportunity we

  531. have is to be filled with the spirit.

  532. He gave God gave Bezel

  533. not a sermon to preach, but three

  534. specific gifts.

  535. Wisdom,

  536. understanding,

  537. and knowledge. Catch this. for his

  538. craft.

  539. Amen. How to work with gold and silver

  540. and bronze, how to craft things. There

  541. was a specific unique anointing filling

  542. of the spirit for his craft. God needs

  543. spiritfilled accountants.

  544. Amen. That don't cook the books, baby.

  545. We need spiritfilled mechanics

  546. >> that don't overcharge little old ladies

  547. trying to get their brakes changed.

  548. Right.

  549. >> Make me want to smack a brother.

  550. >> Spiritfilled construction workers,

  551. contractors that don't cut corners, that

  552. have integrity. We need spiritfilled

  553. nurses that treat the grumpy old man

  554. down the hall the same as the nice

  555. person down this hall that have love and

  556. joy and peace and gentleness because

  557. that's a testimony of the goodness of

  558. God.

  559. How many more people might get saved if

  560. all of us were full of the spirit and

  561. went and served in our different vocs?

  562. I'm just thinking that the world might

  563. change.

  564. >> People don't care about a theology

  565. degree.

  566. They see how you handle stress

  567. with peace. Amen.

  568. They evaluate that you don't take credit

  569. for their work.

  570. You've been around that guy. You did all

  571. the work. And he steps in. No, I did a

  572. great job talking to the CEO.

  573. Yeah. Uh, you didn't do anything, dude.

  574. Need spiritfilled Christians.

  575. They need to see you treat the janitor

  576. the same way that you treat the CEO.

  577. Let me give you the how

  578. might be hearing this going, "Man, I

  579. sounds great, but how do we actually get

  580. there? How do you receive

  581. the infilling of the Holy Spirit?" Luke

    Luke 11:13

  582. 11 verse 13, if you have a Bible like

  583. mine, these are words in red which mean

  584. a little bit more to me. Jesus said, "If

  585. you then, though you are evil, know how

  586. to give good gifts to your children, how

  587. much more will your father in heaven

  588. give the Holy Spirit to those who ask

  589. him?"

  590. Oh my goodness. You mean you don't have

  591. to come up here and wiggle and have

  592. somebody spit on you while they pray?

  593. And again, this is an ongoing thing.

  594. This is a reality. This is a lifestyle.

  595. If you're hungry for more, if you're

  596. hungry for the filling of the Holy

  597. Spirit, for the presence of God, for

  598. peace in the midst of absolute chaos,

  599. for for for for peace that goes beyond

  600. understanding, it doesn't even make

  601. sense why I have the joy of the Lord

  602. right now. If you're hungry for that,

  603. then you ask Jesus and he will give that

  604. to you. Amen. Because he's a good father

  605. and he loves to get give good gifts to

  606. his children.

  607. Ask

  608. and you shall receive.

  609. So number one is receive the assignment

  610. or be filled with the spirit. Number two

  611. is repent from other assignments.

  612. Repent from other assignments. Ephesians

    Ephesians 2 chapter mention

  613. chapter 2 and verse 10 says we are his

  614. workmanship

  615. created in Christ Jesus for good works.

  616. Catch this. which God prepared

  617. beforehand that we should walk in them.

  618. We're back to that the race that's set

  619. before you. Amen. God has prepared

  620. things for you to walk in. So why aren't

  621. we regularly asking God, would you have

  622. me to walk in this? Where would you have

  623. me to walk? Making him Lord of my life

  624. that he calls the shots in my life.

  625. There's a way to man that seems right,

  626. but in the end that road leads to death.

  627. There's a whole lot of good options out

  628. there. Can I tell you for your life

  629. there's one God option

  630. which God prepared beforehand

  631. that we should walk in them. God's not

  632. asking you to do everything. God's

  633. asking you to do his thing. I think

  634. somebody's getting freedom in here.

  635. >> Somebody's been running rampant. Amen.

  636. And it's a season to be laser focused,

  637. to strip back all of the things that's

  638. not your assignment.

  639. God had never meant for you to do that.

  640. You're carrying too much of a load. But

  641. God does have one thing that he wants

  642. you to do. Mark 1:35.

    Mark 1:35

  643. And rising early in the morning while

  644. while it was still dark, he Jesus

  645. departed and went out to a desolate

  646. place. And there he prayed.

  647. And Simon and those who were with him

  648. searched for him. And they found him and

  649. said to him, "Everyone's looking for

  650. you." And he said to them, "Let us go to

  651. the next towns that I may preach there

  652. also, for that is why I came out."

  653. And he went throughout all Galilee,

  654. preaching in their synagogues and

  655. casting out demons. That's my Jesus

  656. right there.

  657. >> The old demon slayer walking around

  658. casting out devils. Amen. I want you to

  659. catch the scene here a little bit. Uh

  660. Jesus early in the morning, he goes away

  661. and he's just he's just in prayer. He's

  662. in a desolate place and and gets in

  663. prayer and everyone's looking for him.

  664. And this is a scene where a whole lot

  665. has been happening. The crowds have been

  666. chasing after him. Amen. Miracles have

  667. been done. Sermons have been preached.

  668. There's been some really good stuff. And

  669. the disciples come and say, "Man, where

  670. have you been? Everyone's looking for

  671. the whole the whole crowd is looking for

  672. you. And there's more to do. We've got

  673. spiritual momentum. Uh man, I got an

  674. Jesus, I have an appointment at three

  675. for you downtown.

  676. Right?

  677. And what does Jesus say? Pack up. We're

  678. out of here. He says, "Pack up. We're

  679. going to the next town to preach over

  680. that. That's that's what I'm called to

  681. in this moment." Now, a whole lot of

  682. good things could have been done in that

  683. space. Crowds, multitudes. Do you know

  684. that Jesus didn't heal everyone in

  685. Israel?

  686. Amen. He healed specific ones only as

  687. the father told him.

  688. Why is it we get in this place where we

  689. feel like we're missing opportunities

  690. and just because the opportunities there

  691. we go instead of seeking God for

  692. clarity.

  693. Jesus

  694. wasn't crowdled. He was spiritled.

  695. You can write that down. Jesus wasn't

  696. crowdled.

  697. He was spiritled.

  698. There'll always be another need in your

  699. life. Amen. There'll always be more

  700. people that have opinions about what you

  701. should do with your life. You guys been

  702. alive, right? Always somebody. Oh, you

  703. should do this. That's good for you. You

  704. should go there. You should do that. But

  705. what did God say? Amen. Not crowdled,

  706. but spiritled. Jesus didn't wake up

  707. saying, "Man, what does everybody need

  708. from me today?"

  709. Jesus woke up and said, "Father, where

  710. would you have me go

  711. today?"

  712. Jesus doesn't let the crowd define his

  713. day.

  714. Consecration is saying no to people just

  715. as much as it's saying yes to God.

  716. I need you to hear this. A need can be

  717. very real and still not be your

  718. assignment. Amen. Number three in your

  719. notes is respect your limits.

  720. Respect your limits. You're human and

  721. God is God. Exodus chapter 18

    Exodus 18:13

  722. verse 13 says, "The next day Moses took

  723. his seat to hear the people's disputes

  724. against each other. They waited before

  725. him from morning till evening.

  726. When Moses's father-in-law saw all that

  727. Moses was doing for the people, he

  728. asked, "What are you really

  729. accomplishing here? Why are you trying

  730. to do all this alone while everyone

  731. stands around you from morning till

  732. evening?"

  733. Moses replied, "Because the people come

  734. to me." Isn't that interesting? Even

  735. Moses gets sidetracked of all the needs.

  736. He says, "Because the people come to me

  737. to get a ruling from God." Sounds like a

  738. noble task, Moses. He says, "When a

  739. dispute arises, they come to me and I'm

  740. the one who settles the case between the

  741. quarreling parties. I inform the people

  742. of God's decrees and give them his

  743. instructions.

  744. This is not good."

  745. Ain't that interesting? Because it

  746. sounds good. Moses is filling this need

  747. in the community, man. All these people

  748. and there's there's quarrels. You guys

  749. been around humans, right? There's

  750. always another dispute to handle. And so

  751. they keep going to Moses and keep going

  752. to Moses. And Moses finds himself from

  753. morning till evening every single day

  754. settling quarrels and disputes. Jethro,

  755. his father-in-law, comes along and

  756. evaluates. What are you what are you

  757. accomplishing here, man? What what are

  758. you doing? He looks at him. He says,

  759. "This is this isn't good for you." Amen.

  760. This isn't good for you. He says,

  761. "You're going to wear yourself out and

  762. the people, too.

  763. This job is too heavy a burden for you

  764. to handle all by yourself. Somebody

  765. needs to receive that word for their own

  766. life right now. This job is too heavy a

  767. burden for you to handle all by

  768. yourself. Now listen to me and let me

  769. give you a word of advice and may God be

  770. with you. So Moses is doing a good work,

  771. a spiritual work, a necessary work.

  772. Jethro, his father-in-law, calls him out

  773. and says, "What you're doing isn't good.

  774. And I need you to hear this. If the

  775. devil can't keep you bad, he'll keep you

  776. busy.

  777. >> Amen.

  778. A lot of people think that the devil,

  779. man, when he comes, he he's he's like a

  780. like the guy in the creeper van with

  781. free candy for the kids.

  782. You know, come here and smoke this

  783. little girl. Come here and come here and

  784. shoot this in your veins. I mean, like

  785. that's what we think when the devil

  786. shows up. Can I tell you the devil

  787. masquerades as an angel of light?

  788. Did you catch that? He masquerades. He

  789. comes in. He says, "Man, this is a great

  790. idea. This is a good, noble cause. Why

  791. don't you fill your time with this? This

  792. is good. Oh, and look at this. You don't

  793. want to forget this. And then, oh, next

  794. week there's this. And then there's

  795. this. And then there's this. And then

  796. there's that."

  797. And we have so many good things and not

  798. one God thing.

  799. Respecting your limits

  800. has to do with boundaries.

  801. Sometimes we get so busy responding to

  802. the needs of people, we stop listening

  803. for direction from God. You can write

  804. this down if you're taking notes.

  805. Faithfulness is not doing everything for

  806. everyone.

  807. It's doing what the master assigned.

  808. That's faithfulness.

  809. The lie of the enemy is that non-stop

  810. output equals faithfulness.

  811. That is a lie from the devil. So, what's

  812. the God solution? Thank God for

  813. father-in-laws. Amen.

  814. >> Hallelujah. My father-in-law is here

  815. today. Thank God for father-in-laws

  816. that can speak a word. And thank God for

  817. son-in-laws that can hear a word.

  818. That wasn't planned, by the way.

  819. What was the God's solution for Moses?

  820. It was delegation. In other words,

  821. you're not meant to carry this load all

  822. alone. We see the same thing in Acts

    Acts 6 chapter mention

  823. chapter 6, right? These guys are

  824. preaching. The church is just blowing

  825. up, transformed, the new New Testament

  826. church. And all of the apostles, they're

  827. serving and and all of a sudden they

  828. recognize this need and they're they're

  829. they're really struggling. And Acts

    Acts 6 chapter mention

  830. chapter 6 and verse two says it's not

  831. right that we should give up preaching

  832. the word of God to serve tables.

  833. A spiritual need, a very real need. What

  834. they weren't saying, here's the issue

  835. that was going on. Uh, widows weren't

  836. being they weren't being fed, right? The

  837. distribution of food and all this

  838. different stuff and cleaning tables, all

  839. this all these different needs that were

  840. happening in the early church, it wasn't

  841. being done sufficiently.

  842. And so, they delegated

  843. men and women of God to serve to help

  844. carry that load.

  845. spiritfilled

  846. people to step up and do what God's

  847. called them to do. The arrogant think,

  848. if I don't do it, it won't get done.

  849. Amen. What's the classic? If you want

  850. anything done right, you got to do it

  851. yourself. You know how many people have

  852. wore themselves out because they refuse

  853. to delegate?

  854. If you want anything done right, you got

  855. to do it yourself.

  856. Respect your limits. Your limits are not

  857. failures. Your limits are reminders that

  858. you're human and that God is God. And

  859. delegation is not abandoning

  860. responsibility.

  861. It's stewarding your responsibility

  862. correctly.

  863. I'll share this with you. Rest is not

  864. lack of faith.

  865. It's faith that God can carry out what

  866. you're not able to. Amen.

  867. So, what's the solution? Number four in

  868. your notes

  869. is reset your rhythm.

  870. Reset your rhythm. Last week, we dealt

  871. with seasons,

  872. the different spiritual seasons that we

  873. have.

  874. And this week, we're dealing with

  875. rhythm. Say, catch the rhythm.

  876. Matthew 11:28

    Matthew 11:28

  877. Jesus said this. He said, "Come to me

  878. all who labor and are heavy laden, and I

  879. will give you rest." He says, "Take my

  880. yoke upon you and learn from me, for I

  881. am gentle and lowly in heart, and you

  882. will find rest for your souls." Doesn't

  883. that sound good? He says, "My yoke is

  884. easy and my burden is light."

  885. Jesus said, "My yoke is easy and my

  886. burden is light." If your rhythm is

  887. frantic and panic, you're probably not

  888. in the right rhythm. And it's

  889. interesting that he uses the word yoke

  890. here in the Old Testament in that time,

  891. the yolks were custom made for the

  892. animals. And so, if they had two oxen

  893. that were going to be pulling something,

  894. they would they would measure the the

  895. the shape and the size of the oxen's

  896. neck. Then, this is that wooden thing

  897. that they would lock the two heads in,

  898. and the two would walk in tandem. Amen.

  899. Jesus says, "Take my yoke upon you."

  900. What this means, if you're yolked

  901. together with Jesus, number one, there's

  902. a specific custom yoke built for you.

  903. And if I'm yolked together with Jesus,

  904. if I see something I think I'm supposed

  905. to do and I go to run and Jesus says,

  906. "No, I'm stuck with the master." Amen.

  907. And if I'm sidetracked over here and

  908. Jesus says, "We need to depart and go

  909. over here." If Jesus goes that way, I

  910. got to tell you, he's bigger and

  911. stronger than me.

  912. Lincoln started playing football. He got

  913. his football helmet on. Man, you just

  914. grab that face mask.

  915. >> Poor little guy. I can drive him all

  916. over the place.

  917. Come here, boy.

  918. Wherever the head goes, the body

  919. follows. Amen.

  920. >> When we make him Lord of our life, we're

  921. choosing to be yolked together with

  922. Jesus.

  923. We're choosing to keep in step with

  924. Jesus, to keep in rhythm with Jesus.

  925. The burden is light

  926. because Jesus is pulling the majority of

  927. the weight.

  928. Catching the rhythm means walking in

  929. step with the master.

  930. I'll say this. The Lord

  931. of your work must also become the Lord

  932. of your rest.

  933. Amen.

  934. Catching the rhythm as a faithful

  935. believer, man, it's daily prayer. It's

  936. fasting.

  937. Let me share this with you. It's Sabbath

  938. rest.

  939. I don't know if you've read your Bible,

  940. but from Genesis to Revelation,

  941. we see the celebration of Sabbath rest.

  942. Right in Genesis,

  943. God created the world in six days. What

  944. did he do on day seven?

  945. >> He says, "Hey, you guys are on your own.

  946. I'm going to take a nap."

  947. Wasn't because God was tired and so wore

  948. out, but it was because he was setting

  949. and establishing a pattern for us to

  950. live.

  951. Those that have faithfully followed him

  952. for generations have caught the

  953. revelation of the rhythm of the Sabbath.

  954. You work six, you rest one.

  955. Boy, the devil tries to steal my Sabbath

  956. on the regular.

  957. It's the only day you can get the

  958. appointment. It's the only day that you

  959. can do this. It's the only time that we

  960. can meet together. It's the only

  961. I don't care

  962. because I'm protecting my Sabbath. I'm

  963. protecting the rhythm that God has

  964. established for me. Amen.

  965. Sabbath is a weekly declaration that

  966. God, you're God and I'm not.

  967. Similar to that tithe and offering that

  968. Lindsay was talking about earlier in the

  969. service. It's a declaration that God,

  970. all of this is yours. My calendar's

  971. yours. My schedule's yours. All of this

  972. time is yours. And I know that it's

  973. borrowed time. And so on one day every

  974. week, I'm going to give that day back to

  975. you.

  976. Consecrate it and make it holy, a day of

  977. rest.

  978. I'll ask the worship team to join me up

  979. here. And I want to close by giving you

  980. some practical framework

  981. for this next season as we're stepping

  982. in and we're getting intentional to be

  983. laser focused and to allow ourselves to

  984. be filled with the spirit and to be

  985. consecrated by God, devoted wholly unto

  986. him.

  987. It's an acronym

  988. that I've used in my life. It's very

  989. valuable. If you're a notetaker and you

  990. like acronyms and practical application,

  991. write this down.

  992. The word is pace.

  993. P A C E.

  994. P

  995. is for pray before you plan.

  996. If he's Lord of my life, I will seek out

  997. his direction before I make the

  998. decision.

  999. I pray before I plan.

1000. Too many people go and do whatever they

1001. feel to do the all the good things and

1002. after they get there they say, "God,

1003. will you bless this? God, will you bless

1004. this?" God never assigned that to you to

  1005. begin with.

  1006. Amen.

1007. Pray before you plan. A is for audit.

1008. Audit your time and money. Audit your

  1009. calendar,

1010. your bank statement, and your calendar.

1011. tells the truth about your priorities.

  1012. C is for choose.

  1013. Choose your people.

1014. Be intentional about who you allow to

1015. influence your life. And let me tell you

1016. this, Christian, be intentional about

1017. who you're discipling in this next

1018. season. Because if you've been serving

1019. God for any length of time, the

1020. assignment is to disciple others, to be

1021. a blessing to others, to pour into

  1022. others, encourage each other.

1023. And E is for eliminate.

1024. Eliminate what crowds out the calling.

1025. Not necessarily just sinful things,

  1026. but eliminate unnecessary things.

1027. Let's stand to our feet all over this

  1028. house. Here's

1029. the sense I have in the spirit. And if

1030. you don't hear anything else today, I

1031. want you to receive this word from God.

1032. God is not looking for more activity.

1033. He's looking for more authority in your

  1034. life.

  1035. Amen.

1036. We serve a good God. I'm sharing this

1037. with you because my heart is just to

1038. serve him well. My heart is to lead a

1039. people that serve him well, that are

1040. steadfast after and that are hungry.

1041. God, whatever you want, we want.

1042. Whatever wherever you lead us, we'll go.

1043. And the enemy comes with so many

1044. distractions and so many things and it's

1045. so easy to get off track.

  1046. So father

  1047. we pray for clarity

  1048. for understanding

  1049. for clear direction.

1050. >> Lord I pray for those in this space for

1051. all of us God that have become

  1052. sidetracked or distracted

1053. with all of the other good things.

1054. Father, I pray that you would help us in

1055. this season to see the assignment, to

1056. see the thing that you've called us to,

1057. Father, that we might be filled with the

1058. spirit, God, that we might be used by

1059. you, that rivers of living water would

1060. flow into our life, would flow into all

1061. of the places, Father, that you could

1062. reach a lost and dying generation, God,

1063. that our life would have high impact for

1064. the building of the kingdom of God.

1065. And Father, I pray for those in this

  1066. space

1067. that are carrying the weights and the

  1068. loads

1069. that were never meant for them to carry.

1070. Lord, I pray as this altar opens.

1071. >> Lord, that your children would come and

  1072. lay those weights down

1073. to lay down the distractions to make a

1074. fresh declaration in the spiritual realm

1075. that God, you are my God. You are Lord

  1076. over my life.

1077. Father, we thank you for your presence

  1078. in this house.

1079. I pray now as we've received your word

1080. that you continue to do the work in the

1081. hearts of the men and women in this

  1082. place

1083. in Jesus name. Amen. We're going to

1084. close the service with some light

1085. worship. I'm going to ask our prayer

1086. team to come forward. And if you're

1087. hearing this and you're going, "Man, I

1088. got some I got some junk in my life. I

1089. got some stuff. I got some distractions.

1090. I want to encourage you to come. Let us

1091. pray with you and you can lay it down at

1092. the altar. Amen. Maybe you're hearing

  1093. this and you're going, "Man, you're

1094. talking about Jesus being Lord of your

1095. life." And I might have prayed a prayer,

1096. but I don't know if I've ever made him

1097. Lord of all of my life. I want to invite

1098. you to an altar this morning. We want to

1099. lay hands on you and pray with you and

1100. agree with you to make Jesus Christ Lord

1101. of your life. Amen. The altars are open

1102. this morning. Won't you come?
