Fastening Our Gaze On The Lord

Well, if you'll stand to your feet with me, grab your Bible, we'll make a confession together.

I gotta grab my Bible first, though.

I said this together say, heavenly Father, I'm grateful for this church, I'm grateful for a place where I can grow and I'm glad to be here together in one accord, serving brother and sister in your army.

And I check in with everything that I have and I'm humble, I'm teachable and I'm ready for growth and I'm ready to expand in Jesus' name.

Amen.

I love this church, I love the Holy Spirit, amen.

It's been such a strong flow.

We're excited together.

You know I'm gonna preach a message entitled Fastening our Gays G-A-Z-E.

Fastening our Gays on the Lord.

And you know it's South Texas.

For yeah, yeah, you were thinking, while the Holy Spirit wanted me to change this title, I had a little argument with them like what's he talking about?

Homosexuals?

For you know, like no G-A-Z-E or South Texas, as dad would say, look at here now would be our subtitle.

And you know we're not afraid of the Holy Ghost around here.

And you know, james and I were meeting with the architect about some changes coming in our building and he introduced us to a new AV guy and he said something that really got me he was.

We were talking about everything we do AV-wise around here and I was explaining to him about live stream and podcasting and our video podcast, and I said something about editing the podcast, the video side, down to the preaching only, and uploading it.

And he's like you mean you're afraid to show all that Holy Ghost stuff, all the slain in the spirit laying on the hands stuff, and I was like, well, I'm not afraid, you know, and I explained how that lives around forever now on live stream.

So I'm not afraid of that, I just trying to put out a shorter product and you know he said he began to explain that how denominational people you know it's 11 o'clock at night they're hungry for the supernatural, they're facing real problems in their life and they'll find a live stream, like we have, and they'll watch it and they'll begin to get free.

And he was just telling me how every church in Houston that's what they do they edit all of the Holy Ghost part of their services out, and so it kinda hit me, you know.

And so out of that I wanted to remind you that technology exists in both on Facebook and YouTube.

As soon as you leave here on a Sunday morning, not Sunday morning only, but you can get in your car and boom, that message will be our live stream that we just live streamed.

It's no longer live, but it's available and you can click on it.

A lot of times I'll listen to how we did on our praise and worship team.

I'll listen to that on the way home.

So it's always good, right, carol.

Always just the best of the best.

Amen.

It's always anointed right.

And so I wanted to point that out because I wanted to talk.

I was just getting warmed up here.

I had to link my motor.

I just wanted to talk and connect the dots here to what something dad said last week about confidence, and you remember what happened.

He began to minister about confidence and he began to talk about the Texans' big play last week.

Now all that kinda sorta goes away after today.

We had no big plays, and so Selena said hey, you're not allowed to use the Texans as an example tonight, since you didn't watch today's game, and I would say that my excuse is pretty good when I was preparing for this message, and so I did walk through the room several times, maybe five minutes in, and Watson today just looked like he was panicking.

He didn't miss much.

We could talk quarter by quarter, but we'll get to that later.

But seriously, he had a big play last week.

He had a couple of them this week too, I understand, but you know where he was, hit from both sides and spun out of it and went and threw a pass and made a really good play.

And so what was he doing?

He had vision to advance the ball.

Maybe not today today he was panicked, but last week his focus was in the right place and he was able to advance the ball.

And so we're to advance the kingdom of God, we're to have vision where we can see.

We're supposed to have God's perspective, so we can have his vantage point to see, and so that's what we're gonna talk about.

But it's all related to the confidence that dad brought out last week when he prayed over both my mom and James and Claire and Selena and I and I went back and I listened to that in great detail and I took notes, and so I just wanted to start out I know it's kind of cheating or whatever but reading some of the scriptures that he read and talk about it.

He was talking about how the word confidence means all outspokenness, boldness.

And then he read out of the Thayer's dictionary that says the deportment by which one becomes conspicuous or secures publicity.

In other words, it's the way you carry yourself, the way you carry yourself, the confidence that you have, is the way you carry yourself.

And how do we carry ourselves?

We carry ourselves in Christ, with that confidence, with his confidence coming from God alone.

Amen, and that gives us prominence.

And so in Proverbs 3, 26, he says for the Lord shall be your confidence firm and strong and shall keep your foot from being caught in a trap caught in a trap I'm just kidding or some hidden danger the Amplified says some hidden danger.

You know, the devil is not just trying to steal your parking place or give you a bad hair day, he's trying to take you out.

He's trying to steal your voice of influence, he's trying to mute you from being able to affect those around you for good.

And so, again, if we get our confidence, the Lord is our confidence firm and strong, and he's the one that keeps our foot, being sure we're sure-footed.

We don't have to stumble, we don't have to trip, we don't have to fall, because we have our confidence coming from him.

And again, in Hebrews 10, 35, it says do not therefore fling away your fearless confidence, for it carries a great and glorious compensation of reward.

And then we'll get to verse 36 later on.

And then that same confidence, in the Greek it comes right out of 1 John, 5, 14 and 15 talking about.

And this is the confidence, the assurance, the privilege of boldness which we have in him, that if we ask anything according to his will, he listens and hears us.

And since we positively know that he listens to us in whatever we ask, we know we're settled and with absolute knowledge that we have granted us as a present, our present possessions, the request made of him.

Amen, we have what we ask of him.

And so I wanted to.

Just, I felt the Holy Spirit earlier, I was studying out of the passion translation, and so I am gonna go ahead and read mostly out of the passion translation, and we will just start here in Hebrews 10 and kind of work our way through to Hebrews 12.

And so I know, I think I know that y'all know where I'm going.

But right here in Hebrews 10, if we look at verse 35, it's time to cheat.

It says so don't lose your bold, courageous faith, for you are destined for a great reward.

And so, if you may think that, hey, that's kind of watered down a little bit, hey, that was better in the amplified.

You just read it in the amplified, it was better.

That's why the passion translation, or any extra translations they're really good in addition to the King James version or the new King James version or what you know.

I use these as an in addition to, not as just.

I don't use this as my daily reader do.

I read it, you know, almost every day.

Yes, but it's an in addition to amen, and so, but it's still powerful what it says.

It says so don't lose your bold, courageous faith.

You need the strength of endurance to reveal the poetry of God's will, and then you receive the promise in full.

For soon, and very soon.

That one is appearing well, will come without delay, and he also says my righteous ones will live from my faith.

But if fear holds them back, my soul is not content with them.

But we are certainly not of those who are held back by fear and perish.

We are among those who have faith and experience true life.

Amen, that's us.

We're believers, right, we don't allow fear to hold us back.

But I wanted to go back and I wanted to catch that.

It says you need the strength of endurance to reveal the poetry of God's will, and so, if you know, it reminded me out of Romans 12 to.

In the amplified, it says do not be conformed to this world or this age, or fashioned after and adapted to it it's superficial customs but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.

You know, dad just preached a message this morning, winning the battle of the mind, and so I encourage you again.

It was an amazing, relatable message that was anointed amen.

So we all need to renew our mind, transformed by the entire renewal of our mind, by its new ideals and its new attitude.

We have a new attitude, amen, so that you may prove for yourself what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God, even the thing which is good and acceptable and perfect in his sight for you.

So we're proving that out, we're renewing our mind, we're we're.

His ways are higher than our ways.

His thoughts are higher than our thoughts, but he's revealed those to us right and so, spirit to spirit, he reveals those to us, and so we have vision, we're able to see and what, and to prove out for ourselves what's, what's the perfect will of God in his sight.

And I just want you, I wanted to ask you tonight are you in the place where God said you'll find the greatest fulfillment?

You're gonna find your greatest fulfillment when you're giving him his greatest fulfillment, amen.

You're gonna find your greatest fulfillment inside God's perfect will.

And you say, well, j out, my name is written in the Lamb's book of life and I'm just, I'm just excited about going to heaven.

Well, that's great, but that's not all there is.

That might be good and acceptable, but God has a perfect will for your life that only you can achieve, that only he has special assignments that only you are able to fulfill here on earth.

And he's got a perfect plan and he's equipped you to follow that plan.

And with that equipping, it includes supply, amen.

And and that's what we're all about around here, we're about helping you find God's perfect will for your life and living it, and that's something that we all need to be concerned about.

Are we living in God's perfect will, and what does perfect mean?

And we ought to be about discovering and achieving God's perfect will and discerning the will of God, the perfect will of God, in our lives, because there's a million different distractions, there's a million different ways that we can just stop, lean back and settle for something that's good, or maybe settle for something that's acceptable.

But no, we need to press on and press forward into the perfect will of God, and it doesn't matter what the devil at the schemes that he's used to try to hit you from both sides at once.

We're able to take that momentum and spin out of that with confidence, with great assurance, if we keep our eyes on Jesus, amen.

And so I just encourage you tonight to not give up but to pursue the perfect.

Pursue the perfect, amen.

And so if we'll get back to Hebrews 10, I think I'll pick it up in verse 37.

I did finish that.

I'm sorry we'll skip to 39, but we are certain, certainly not those who are held back by fear and perish.

We are among those who have faith and experience true life.

So it's by faith that we have this confidence.

Amen is by faith, and so I wanted to just take that word, confidence, and that revelation that we learned last week and that's in Hebrews 10.

And then where does it go?

It goes into Hebrews 11, right, what is Hebrews 11?

It's the hall of fame of faith, right, by faith, 20 times, and and through faith, and so on and so forth.

And you see some examples of people who lacked confidence.

They definitely lacked perfection, right, they definitely made plenty of mistakes, but God used them anyways.

And here they are, their faith is being talked about in the hall of fame of faith and there and I won't go through and read every example, but you have Abraham, you have Moses, you have Sarah, and I just wanted to pick it up all the way down in verse 32, as soon as I make sure I didn't skip anything, you know.

And it says and what more could I say to convince you?

For there is not enough time to tell you, to tell you of the faith of Gideon, barak, samson, david, samuel and the prophets.

Through faith's power, they conquered kingdoms and established true justice.

Their faith fastened onto their promises.

That's amazing to me.

Their faith fastened onto their promises.

Whose promises are these?

There are.

You have promises, I have promises.

They're the same promises and our faith is what's fastened onto them.

Amen.

And their faith fastened onto their promises and pulled them into reality.

It was faith that shut the mouths of lions, put out the power of raging fire and caused many to escape certain death by the sword.

Although weak, their faith imparted power to make them strong.

Although we I'm going to read that again Although weak, their faith imparted power to make them strong.

So, everybody, every song on KSBJ we have to sing all about our weaknesses and we have to group together.

And I'm saying we and not you, I'm not preaching at you.

Sometimes, even me, I will tend to whine and complain, but about whatever I'm going through, whatever you know, but you know, we seem to have groups together and just if we can get all the people that have divorced over here talking about their weakness, and if we can get all the alcoholics over here and everybody who needs to know notice that they didn't do that.

Although they were weak, their faith imparted power to make them strong.

Their faith made them strong.

Their confidence in the Lord made them strong and saved the situation every single time and turned it around for God's benefit, amen.

And then they get to be talked about in this hall of fame of faith.

And so it says faith sparked courage within them and they began.

They became mighty warriors in battle, pulling armies from another realm into the battle array.

God's power is beyond our imagination, is beyond anything that our brains can dream up, and we have the ability by faith, by the strength of our confidence in Him, to pull down Heaven's power into our situation and turn things around for God's fulfillment.

And then we get fulfillment out of that.

You know, god gets fulfillment out of us, out of our obedience in His perfect will, amen.

And so faith sparked courage.

I want you to see that it's faith in Him, it's faith in God that sparks the courage and the confidence on the inside of you to walk in the perfect will of God, it says.

Yet it was by faith.

That was faith that enabled others to endure great atrocities.

They were stretched out on a wheel and tortured and didn't deny their faith in order to be freed, because they longed for a more honorable and glorious resurrection.

I want to skip down to verse 39.

These were the true heroes commended for their faith.

Yet they lived in hope without receiving the fullness of what was promised.

But now God has invited us to live in something better than what they had Fulness.

This is so that they could be brought to finish perfection alongside of us, amen.

And then it moves right into Hebrews 12.

It says in Hebrews 12, one.

As for us, we all are of these great excuse me, we have all of these great witnesses who encircle us like clouds.

So we must let go of every wound that has pierced us.

I like how that's put.

But first I want to touch on these were encircled by these clouds of witnesses, encompassed about.

The King James Version said by so great a cloud of witnesses, and so I'm a firm believer that it's not just these hall of fame of faith people that are those witnesses.

And I've preached this many times.

Just encouraging one of my cousins not that long ago at the funeral of my aunt, I was talking about how great heaven is and I just know that those that have gone on before us, that are in heaven, they're part of this great cloud of witnesses cheering us on.

You're never alone, and I just want you to know what heaven is all about, that we have a great cloud of witnesses that are cheering us on, amen.

So we must let go of every.

You know, the King James Version says wait, and the Passion translation here talks about every wound that has pierced us.

And I don't know about you, but I've had some wounds over the years and it's real easy to hold on to those.

It's sometimes even brag about them.

Hey, look at how long this gash is.

Look how much blood's come out of this one.

This person over here really got me good.

They said this and you know anyways.

But so it's easy for our flesh, when we stay in our flesh, to hang on to those and to brag about those wounds and those scars.

But we're to let that go, and so I just wanted to ask you tonight what's holding you back, what wounds are you holding onto that's stopping you from reaching the perfect will of God?

And I just encourage you to let that go tonight.

Let the blood of Jesus wash that away.

Let the blood of Jesus not only cleanse that wound but wash the memory of it away.

Amen.

And all of us go through things, and so I think that's called in Christ determination.

So you know it's not that that is not significant.

What you have been through, the abuse that you've been through, the terrible things an ex-spouse might have said over you, or maybe something that happened in your childhood, yes, that's something, but it's nothing in comparison to what the blood of Jesus purchased.

It's nothing in comparison to what Jesus went through.

I just want you to see that, that we can be completely delivered by the blood of Jesus from all of those wounds.

So let it go, amen.

Allow the blood of Jesus to cleanse you, to wash you.

And you know, we think of sin, and this statement is about to say, and the sin which we so easily fall into.

But it's not all about sin.

Sometimes it's about weights, sometimes it's about distractions that aren't sin, and sometimes it's about old wounds and old memories.

That we need to allow the blood of Jesus to cleanse, amen.

And then we can stand in the perfect will of God, then we can pursue anything God has for us, amen, and nothing shall hold us back because we've broken through all barriers.

And so it says.

Then we will be able to run life's marathon's race with passion and determination, for the path has already been marked out before us.

God already has His perfect will marked out for us.

It's just right ahead of us.

All we have to do is walk in it.

And again, if we get all this straight, we don't have to stumble, we don't have to fall, we don't have to miss the exit, we don't have to.

You know, only God can redeem time, and I'm a witness that he sure has redeemed time for me in my life.

He's just caught me right back up.

I've missed a few steps here and there and he's caught me right back up to His perfect will, and he's great at that, and only he can do that.

But we don't have to miss it.

We don't have to keep stumbling, we don't have to show up with our toes bloody right.

This path has already been marked out for us.

All we have to do is walk in it.

Amen.

And so you know, we're running this race and we have to stay in our lane, doing what God called us to do.

We can't be comparing ourselves to others, and just, are they going faster than us?

Are they going slower?

What's you know?

No, there's a lot of reasons why people don't reach success in their lives, and it's usually because they're comparing themselves to others and then they refuse to stay in the place God has for them.

So God has a perfect will, but it's progressive.

We're progressing in a direction, in other words.

And so if you think, oh, this place right here, it's just, it's too small for me.

I refuse to be the lowest man on the totem pole, but that's where God wants you to be at this season.

You know there's always growth.

You have to.

You know, before you can be ruler over much, you've got to be faithful over little, and a lot of people they don't like that stage and a lot of preachers they don't like preaching that stage.

And it's hard to get excited and run around the church over being faithful over little.

But there's a great reward, amen to being faithful over little.

And so this is a progress, and so that's how we have to get ready for what God has us for.

We're enlarging our tent, we're lengthening our cords, amen.

We're about.

This church is about to explode in growth and in influence and we're ready for it.

But it's because we've been faithful over little.

All of us, not just pastor, not just my family, all of us We've been faithful over.

The ushers have been faithful, the security team has been faithful.

I'm gonna name all my teams and leave Claire's.

No, I'm just kidding.

The welcome team has been faithful.

I'm just messing and so.

So I just encourage you, if that's where you're at tonight, to stay put.

Stay put and be faithful over that little thing, and that's how God will bring you success.

Amen, and so it's kinda like the word dad spoke over my son last week, ethan, about.

He said he was a volcano about to erupt and he compared it to the volcano in Hawaii.

I think there was another volcano yesterday right In the Philippines, if I'm not mistaken, and so.

But I'm telling you there's a lot of us that are just sitting right there and we're ready to erupt.

We're about to just unload all that God has on the inside of us and I mean it's gonna be an amazing sight.

It's gonna be shouting God's fame to the ends of the earth, amen, all because we've been faithful over little Amen.

So if we'll pick it up here in verse two, we look away from the natural realm.

You know there's a lot of distraction in the natural realm.

There's a lot of things we can get weighted down in in the natural realm.

We need to stay in the supernatural realm, and so part of this word of being our greatest year yet is coming up levels, skipping levels right, and that includes that's not just promotion, that's not just financial, it's not just with our jobs.

It's a vantage point we can see with the perspective of God himself, amen.

And so we need to get out of the natural realm, get out of the limitations of what's in your wallet or what's in your bank account, like Sister Claire from Tombaugh was just preaching during the offering.

It's not about you know what the IRS says or what your accountant says.

You know this church has lived through periods of time where two plus two is not equaled four.

I couldn't explain it.

It was supernatural accounting.

You know it's kind of a long story, but we would get our financial report back at the end of the year.

And how in the world did they get that number?

This is going to go to the lender and it looks great.

And in reality, what seemed like reality?

You know it was supernatural.

It was God Extending the life of this church and working through us.

Amen, and it says so.

We look away from the natural realm and we fasten our gaze onto Jesus.

What did he do?

Who birthed faith within us and who leads us forward into faith's perfection?

He is leading us forward into faith's perfection.

His example is this because his heart was focused on the joy of knowing that you would be his, he endured the agony of the cross and conquered its humiliation and now sits exalted at the right hand of the throne of God.

And because he sits there, where do we sit?

We sit there with him.

We've been exalted, amen.

But so he for the joy that was set before him.

He endured the cross, and what was the joy?

The joy was a relationship with us.

We have a relationship with him.

Are we taking advantage of that?

Are we keeping our vision and our focus on him, or are we distracted by everything else that's in the natural realm?

You know it's his vision, supernatural vision, that produces right thoughts and right ideas.

You know, even in the message this morning that Dad preached, you know he talked about winning the battle of the mind, but there's also ideas and concepts and strategies that come from the Lord.

You know it means a new year.

We set goals, but if we don't have vision, we can't obtain those goals.

It's the vision that allows us to.

It allows those goals.

It's in the vision.

What vision is?

It's strategy, and it comes from God.

Again, your relationship with God, that fellowship, is what allows you to receive vision from him.

And vision is strategy.

Otherwise, we're just setting goals on a piece of paper and maybe we'll check one or two off three months from now, six months from now.

No, if we have a strategy, god's going to take care of all of it, amen.

And so it's his vision, it's his strategy that produces right thoughts and ideas and it produces faith so that you can do what you see in the spirit realm.

Let me say that again, it produces faith so that you can do what you see in the spirit realm.

So again, if you're stuck in the natural realm just looking around, you're never going to see it.

You're never going to get promoted and skip levels and get to see what he needs you to see.

And then it's one disappointment after another.

Well, jay, it's just one thing after another.

I don't know what to say.

You just don't live.

You know my life, you don't know the struggles that I go through.

No, it's time to grab ahold of our gaze and focus it in on Jesus himself and receive the impartation and the revelation of God's perfect will and begin to follow it in our lives.

Amen.

And this produces tenacity and perseverance to stay with it and stick with it.

It produces grit.

You know, grit is an attitude, it's a state of mind that, no matter what's coming, we're going to get the job done.

We're going to do whatever it takes to get the job done.

And so and that's not something that can be taught you know, I teach a lot, I get to teach a lot of people a lot of different things, but just using my own kids as an example, you know, sometimes it's something technical on their computers or software related, and they'll just, they'll give up and they'll call me or they'll.

You know they're looking for something specific and I won't do anything different than them, but just not give up.

I'm going to Google it a third time, a fourth time, a fifth time and finally, at the bottom of page three, there's the answer.

I didn't know the answer, I just knew how to find the answer a little faster than them.

And so sometimes, you know, grit is just, it's an attitude, but it does come from God, it does the confidence does come from God.

And if you'll spend time with him, you'll have his character on the inside.

The love of God has already been shed abroad in our hearts and his character is already being revealed to us.

It's just in that intimate relationship, it's in that intimate time that we spend with him that he's revealing a greater and stronger and more and more, and he's adding upon us from faith to faith and glory to glory.

He's progressing us and we are not standing in the way of progress.

You know, I was thinking back not that long ago, I was sitting down, so I'm facing this way because this is bourgeois.

So West Ritchie meets bourgeois and it goes all.

It's a two lane road with two ditches.

One ditch on each side goes all the way to Cutten and Cutten is a big, nice four, four lane boulevard, divided.

Then you have Hollister that's divided.

Well, about 20 plus years ago my dad and I went to a Harris County plan road planning meeting and they had West Ritchie, this four lane boulevard, right here, that's right by the church.

They had a plan to go straight down all the way through Cutten and meet up with Willa Brook Mall in a straight shot, just right around Greens Bayou.

They had the money allocated for it, they had the plan, they had some of the right of way already bought, but a handful of voters this direction, they were standing in the way of progress, and that was 20 years ago.

So I was sitting in traffic, backed up all the way down bourgeois the other day and I was reminded about these handful of voters that ruined it for all of us, and how many thousands of people, on a daily basis, are now inconvenienced by their fear of progress.

And I know it's kind of funny like and the road right of way has been abandoned.

It will never be built, if it's ever figured out in our future.

It will cost millions and millions and millions of dollars.

But they had the money.

It was like $5 million.

It was just gonna.

They were gonna do it.

And what would it affect the school?

The school actually would have been better off.

The buses could have gotten in and out in a much safer way.

But no, they didn't want progress, they stood in the way of progress.

And now, like I said, I can't imagine what it's gonna be like 20 years from now on that same road.

But God I mean Jesus, you know God has a plan, because this church is growing and we don't like traffic, amen.

So I know that's kind of funny, but are there any areas in your life where you're afraid of growth, where you're afraid of progress?

Let's get rid of fear.

Amen.

Like we read earlier, we will not be held back by fear.

I'm not gonna stand in the way of God's progress.

God's coming through with growth in this place.

I'm ready for it.

Amen, I embrace it.

I embrace change, I embrace growth.

This is our greatest year yet and no man is left behind.

We're all gonna get to experience this together, arm in arm together, as an army, in unity, because love plus unity equals miracles, and we're not afraid of the supernatural.

Amen.

So we have our gaze.

Our gaze is fixed on Jesus, the author and the finisher of our faith.

He's the beginning and the end, but he's also he's, the one that contains it all.

Amen.

And he's the answer to every issue or problem that we have.

We're progressing in him and we're growing and we're not afraid of progress.

Amen.

It's like all right tonight.

Amen, hallelujah, thank you, thank you.

Here you go, pastor.

Praise God, praise God, wasn't that good.

Hallelujah, Thank you.

Fasten your gaze, praise the Lord.

It's not gonna be like the Texans, like Linus and the football.

Fasten the gaze, and Lucy would jerk the football Right every time he was about to kick it.

I came across a word in Ezekiel in my normal reading last month.

I wrote it down here In Ezekiel 12, 25,.

He says for I am the Lord, I will speak, and the word that I shall speak shall come to pass, it shall no more, it shall be no more prolonged, for in your days, o rebellious house, will I say the word and will perform it, sayeth the Lord.

God.

Now, in this case, with Ezekiel talking to Israel, they were saying that judgment was gonna be delayed and that they weren't gonna have to suffer.

And God said you're gonna have judgment and it's not gonna be prolonged.

So it was in a negative sense, but I took it in the positive sense.

God has said about this year this is gonna be the greatest year yet, and so, as we keep our eyes on Jesus and who is he?

He's the Word.

So keep your eyes, your gaze, fixed, fastened, on the Word that we've received together.

Amen.

Let's all stand together, praise God.

Father, thank you for what we've heard tonight.

We've been strengthened and reinforced with mighty power in our inner man.

Father, we thank you that our faith is increasing and our determination is increasing as we follow after you, as we gaze upon you, fasten our gaze upon what you've said, and we've written the vision in these red envelopes and we've placed it upon the altar.
