God's Strategic Favor 2

Lift up your Bibles and wave them around, make Jesus glad and the devil mad and say this together with me Say, heavenly Father, I have tuned in tonight to live stream.

It's filled with life for me.

Give me eyes to see and ears to hear what the Spirit is saying to me tonight.

That's right.

I'm listening just for me, I'm not listening for someone else, and I'm ingesting the Word of God and it is feeding my faith and nourishing my spirit in Jesus' day, amen.

Let's turn in our Bibles to two places Luke 4, 18 and Psalm 102.

We'll start with Luke, and Jesus is speaking here.

And verse 18, jesus is speaking in his own hometown and his home synagogue and he said the Spirit of the Lord is upon me because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor.

He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord.

And in the amplified, that verse says the acceptable and accepted year of the Lord, the day when the free favors of God, the day when salvation and the free favors of God profusely abound I think favor profusely abounds, amen.

And then in Psalm 102, 13,.

Psalm 102, 13.

Here we go.

I should have put my marker there, all right.

It says thou shalt arise talking about God and to God.

Thou shalt arise and have mercy upon Zion For the time to favor her.

Yay, the set time, or we could say the appointed time, is come, and so we're talking tonight about God's strategic favor.

This is my second message on this subject.

I preached the first one on Sunday night about 10 days ago, and we're talking about favor that God grants us.

It's not carte blanche favor, it's not universal favor.

It's favor in a direction.

You'll find, as you get to know the Lord better and better, that his favor is in a direction consistent with his calling and with his purpose for our lives, and we're living in the fulfillment of Luke 419.

This is the set time.

This is the time for the free favors of God to profusely abound.

I know the devil wants you to think about you being under the heel of the devil, and maybe you're under the heel of politicians or under the heel of the government.

I read where Biden is saying that you've got to wear masks If you're on federal property or if you're riding in an airplane or public transportation, and they're big on rules, they're big on taking as much of our freedom away.

Listen, let's not look at that, let's look at what God's word says.

We have favor, and we have.

This is the appointed time of God's free favors to profusely abound.

I mean that's not just a little trickle, I mean that's an abundant favor, and so that's set time.

And when you look up favor, the word favor, it means endowed with special advantage for success.

It means provided with preferential treatment that tends to promote and ease.

You know, god wants to make it easier for you, the devil wants to make it hard for you.

Amen, I think I'm gonna choose God's way.

Amen.

And so again, favor is a specific favor, it's a favor in a direction I like to say.

Favor is a one way street.

Ha ha ha.

Favor is a one way street to success.

Favor is a one way street to ease.

Favor is a one way street to promotion.

You think about that?

Amen, I love that.

And so last Sunday night we talked about a Bible example, and it was.

We were talking about Mephibosheth David.

After he became king of both the northern and southern kingdoms, he asked is there anyone left of the house of Saul?

And why was he asking the question?

Because he had cut the covenant with Jonathan, saul's son, and that, and he had sworn to Jonathan that he would always have mercy, have divine compassion, he would have covenant kindness forever to all members of Saul's house.

Well, saul's house was wiped out, saul was wiped out, jonathan was dead and he wanted to know is there anyone left?

And they said, yes, there's one man by the name of Mephibosheth and he's lame at both feet and he lives in Lodibar, which means no pasture.

And so he went and he brought this man from Lodibar into the king's house.

He sat him at the king's table and fed him with the king's meat.

And so you talk about a one way trip.

He took a one way trip up.

I mean, he was the son of the vanquished and now he became like unto, the son of the king.

He's like in the family because of the covenant.

Was it because of Mephibosheth's good looks?

Was it because of his talent?

Was it because of his good name?

No, it had nothing to do with him.

It was just one thing Mephibosheth.

I'm gonna call him Phibbe, because I'm getting tired of that name is kind of hard on my tongue.

Phibbe was in Jonathan, or more specifically, he was in Saul, and so he was in Jonathan, whom David had cut that covenant, or in Christ.

We've got covenant, kindness, we have favor, not because we're so good, not because of anything we've done, but because we're in Christ and we're on the one way, we're going to be in the one way direction, one way street, right on up to success and favor and promotion.

Amen and ease Don't forget that word, ease and so.

And then he gets to there, and not only is he living in luxury in the king's house, eating at the king's table, but then David commanded all of Saul's lands and wealth be restored to Phibbe.

So Phibbe became a very rich man.

All the lands, the crops, the fields, the workers, I mean that was all credited to his account.

And he became a very wealthy man Again, not because he was smart, not because he was of any reason, it was all because of the covenant.

And so we're talking about that strategic favor and just picture what Jesus has done for us.

I mean, have we really stirred our faith up to realize what the blood has purchased?

You know, psalm says you know what shall I render unto the Lord?

For all his benefits toward me, I'll take the cup of salvation and call upon the name of the Lord.

In other words, the best way to thank God for his benefits is to possess them and to thank him for them, and to possess them and make sure that we don't let any benefits go unclaimed.

So tonight I've got another Bible example, and that's Jacob I wanted to talk about, and instead of flipping through the Bible here, I want to give you Genesis chapter 25 through 33.

Everything that I'm going to share with you is found in those chapters about Jacob, and, of course, he was born, and Jacob and Esau were born of Isaac.

And so in Genesis 25, there was an incident that happened that Esau was so hungry.

He came to his brother and he said I'm about to starve to death.

Have you got anything to eat?

And Jacob said, well, yeah, I've got some beans here.

You want some beans?

And he said, well, yeah, I said, well, it's going to cost you a birthright.

You know what good is my birthright To me?

I'm fixing to die of hunger.

Yeah, okay, See, there's two things that were wrong with that picture.

First of all, that was a pretty chicken thing for Jacob to do, to actually put a price on helping his brother.

I mean, he took advantage of his brother.

He took advantage of his brother's low IQ and his brother's foolishness not to value his birthright.

And he's the firstborn, and even though they were born at the same time, they're twins, but he was technically the firstborn, so Esau was.

And so Esau sold his birthright for a pot of beans.

And then we find out later, in a later chapter I think the next chapter, he used trickery.

When Isaac was old, he told Esau to go bring him some savory meat and he was going to lay hands on him and impart his blessing.

And so Jacob and his mother heard that, and so they hurried up and dressed up Jacob and put skins on him and all of that and cooked him some meat right away.

And he stood in for his brother and he, by trickery, by subtlety, he stole the blessing.

And so the blessing that belonged to the firstborn was pronounced over Jacob.

And then later on Esau comes in, he finds out what had happened and he said well, father, don't you have anything left for me?

I mean, is that the only blessing you've got?

Come on, I mean sure there's.

See there again.

See somebody that didn't really he didn't really value what was his enough to watch out after it and watch over it and be aware of what's going on behind the scenes.

You know, he'd got a devious little brother and a devious mother that kind of conspired against him.

And so Jacob Isaac said yeah, listen, I blessed, I blessed Jacob, I blessed your brother with your blessing.

Yay, and he shall be blessed.

I mean, that was how strong that we couldn't be taken back, couldn't be annulled.

That's our blessing, that's our favor.

It can't be canceled, it can't be annulled.

Why?

Because the blood has purchased it, praise God.

And so then, then, of course, you know, esau began to noise abroad that he was going to kill his brother, and so mom and brother were afraid, and so mom made arrangements to send her son to her brother's house, laban.

And so he goes on this trip.

He's basically fleeing for his life.

He's fleeing from his brother.

He's fleeing from all of the, the, the, the.

Really it's sin.

What he, what he did, was a sin and what he did was wrong.

Okay, let's not, let's be clear about it.

But even out of that, god can still use it, because he was really the correct one to get the blessing.

He was the one that had the proper makeup, if you will.

So he goes and on the way, so you could say his favor dried up.

See, that's what happens sometimes.

You're in a place and all of a sudden, your favor dries up.

Well, don't, don't start crying about your favor, dried up.

Find out where your favor is.

Maybe your favor moved from point A to point B because point B is where you need.

Maybe that's the one way high, one way street.

Heading to promotion is over here at point B.

You've reached the end of your trails at point A.

See, let's not hold on to point A when God is ready to move us to point B.

Got you.

So that's what happened with Jacob.

He, god was ready to bless him over at Laban's, and so he had his two wives in front of him.

He didn't know all that.

So on the way he went to sleep at a place and he had a dream and encounter with God where God visited him and told him he was going to protect him, that he would bring him back and he would give him the land that he he was in.

It was a place called Bethel, and and when he woke up, he was so moved that he prayed and then he swore an oath and he said surely the 10th, if you'll do everything you said you'd do, then surely the 10th I will give unto thee.

In other words, he became a tither right there on that trail, right there after that visitation.

So that means that beforehand he had not been a tither.

I want you to think about that.

See, I mean his favor dried up for, and really I think he had to use subtlety and he had to use subdevious means to get what really was his because he hadn't been tithing.

You know, when you tithe, god is able to bless you, and he's able to.

One of the blessings that come with tithing is favor, and and so he didn't have that favor yet.

But when he committed to tithing, then he that preceded him to go, when he, when he encountered Laban and Laban you know, welcomed him with open arms and he, of course you know the story he saw Rachel and Rachel was a beautiful girl and he said you know, come and work for me.

He said I'll tell you what I'll do.

I'll work seven years for that girl, rachel.

You know, you give me Rachel and I'll I'll work.

I don't be my wages.

I mean, he kind of fell in love with Rachel at first sight.

So I think they have a you know love at first anyway.

So he, he made that bargain.

The only thing is Laban.

He is subtlety of himself and he substituted Leah for Rachel on the wedding night and he woke up with with Leah instead of Rachel.

Well, what didn't he read?

What he sowed, you know, he sowed subtlety, he sowed deception.

In fact, jacob's name means supplanter, and so he's got a bad name there.

Really, he's a planter.

It means, you know, you move out of the way.

I'm going to take your place.

I've met a few of those.

All right, so he goes and he works the seven years and now he's got Leah and so he wants Rachel.

So he says, okay, another seven years for Rachel.

So now he's got two wives and he's got no income of his own.

Everything belongs to Laban and he works 14 years and he has several children, you know, a couple by one, a couple by the other, and then he's got a maid here and a maid there and you know he's got a house full of kids after a long time, 14 years.

He looks around.

He has anything for himself.

When am I going to start gaining for myself?

And, by the way, since he a tither is 10% of your increase.

He had no increase, his tithe was exactly zero.

He hadn't been able to honor God with a tithe because he had nothing.

And so about that time, god began to show him about and gave him a dream about speckled cattle.

When I say cattle, I'm not talking about cows, I'm talking about sheep and goats.

And then he had the idea, in a dream, of whittling sticks and having white streaks at the time of mating, and he would set them before the feeding troms.

And so he made a bargain with Laban.

He said look, I'll give you all the solid colored sheep and goats which were the most desirable.

I'll take the ring straight the spotted and the speckled, which were the undesirable ones.

And Laban made that deal with him.

He said sure, you can keep those, you can keep those for yourself.

And so, guess what?

Laban started having fewer of the good cattle and he started having more of the unfavorable cattle.

And yet he began to see the more vigorous ones of his cattle, and he would make sure they were the ones that made it.

So he discovered all kind of breeding techniques that increased the health of the herd and the numbers of his herd.

And so then, the next six years, after 20 years of working for Laban, he was richer and had more than Laban did.

And Laban began to look at him and his favor began to evaporate and he didn't look on him the same way.

He didn't look on Jacob the same way as he did, because now he's superior, now he's richer, and he thinks you know, he said, well, he must be stealing from me.

So he thought ill of Jacob and so Jacob became it's, his favor began to dry up and so he was sensitive to that favor and God put in his heart to return to his land, because way back, you know, 20 years before, god had promised that he was going to give him that land.

And so he, he decided to take his kids and all of his stuff and he's going to move out and go back home.

And of course Laban runs after him and everything and tries to change his mind and tries to interfere and they have this big, you know, dust up and they had a pretty hard negotiation and Laban did let him go without any trouble.

And so here he goes and he separates himself and stays one night alone because it's very troubled, he's dreading seeing his brother Esau, because here's Esau and has this thing festered 20 years?

Is it?

Is it turned from pimple into a boil?

Is it what's going to happen?

Is it going to be an explosion?

When he sees him, he's, frankly, he's afraid, and so, and then, you know, the angel of the Lord comes and they wrestle all night long and I'm not going to let you go till you bless me.

And in fact the angel dislocated Jacob's hip.

That had to hurt, and so, but he did bless him, and so he went and he had a new name.

God gave him a brand new name.

Your name is not going to be Jacob anymore, it's going to be Israel.

So he became his name, became Israel.

He had to have a name change.

He had to have a transformation of his heart before he could meet the brother that he had wronged.

And so, if you keep reading the story so here's the story I'm talking about specific favor, god's strategic, specific one-way street of favor.

You know he had a one-way street, you know, to Laban's house, away from danger, and then, at the appointed time, he had a one-way street back to Esau, and so then he started separating a lot of his goods and his cattle and he began to separate his family and keep them separated.

And he started sending gifts.

And so the first herd of cattle come in, and Esau's looking for him and he's coming, but here's a gift, you know, and then another, you know.

A couple of miles later, here's another bunch of cattle, and then another bunch of cattle, by the time you know.

Then the and then first comes.

First comes Jacob, whose now name is Israel, because he left his wife and everything behind.

He didn't want them to be hurt or any kind of harm to come to them.

He still wasn't sure, but he was trying to win him over with gifts.

And Esau greeted him with a big hug, favor.

He had favor with his brother that he never had before.

Somehow God turned it into favor and he said oh, I don't want all these gifts, I don't need your gifts, I'm well fixed.

You keep them, just keep them.

And uh, and so there you have him returning into the land.

Uh, of his promise, abraham Isaac and Jacob.

And of course, jacob produced the 12 tribes of Israel, because he's Israel, are you getting this?

Now I'm talking about strategic favor.

And uh, you know, here here's this favor birthed the nation of Israel.

It birthed the, the possibility of, of the promise that God made Abraham to come to pass.

You know, at some point in time, you know, later on, there were just 70 of them and then they moved to Egypt and they came.

They came three million and multiplied it and so then when they came back they had enough numbers to possess the land.

It was a long range plan, but this was a very, very see your favor many times is just a small part of your life.

It's a, it's a, it's a a thread.

It's one chapter of your life and every chapter of your life is important and for you to miss that one way street and get on the wrong road can sometimes make long range difficulties for you.

I know I can, I can testify to that.

I mean one one mistake in the flesh cost me about 10 years.

I mean, that's how long it cost me.

I was out, I was in the acceptable will the acceptable will of God is totally perfect will of God for an extended period of time, just because I missed the witness of the spirit in a business decision.

So these things are important.

I don't say that to scare you.

I say that to encourage you that even right now, when things seem to be a little bit disjointed in our economy, disjointed in our country, disjointed all in the world.

Listen, this is an opportunity for the church to rise and it's an opportunity for the church to seize upon it's.

God given strategic favor, I believe, favors increasing in the face of all these things that are going on.

You know, in my personal life I've seen God's strategic favor work out many times and I remember when God spoke to me about starting this church and I got brother Osteen's blessing.

Then, when we finally were released, we began looking for a building and I kind of knew I wanted to be out in the 1960 area.

You know I kept riding up and down 1960s hard.

I don't have time to explain the whole thing tonight but I just trusted that this area was the area that we needed to be in.

And I was driving down, you know, and I was still working for another home builder.

I sold my services to him.

I had my own company, but he was hired by company to run some houses for him and I told him what I was going to do.

I said, look, I need to take off early today.

I need to go find a building.

So I'm going to work for you.

I wasn't working by the hour.

Anyway, I'm working by the job, but I would let him know if I was going to leave at two or three o'clock in the afternoon instead of seven.

Well, I'd let him know and I had to do that.

You start finding this building.

So one day I found a building for lease right on 1960.

And it was 9,300 square feet and as I got to looking at it I remembered what it was.

It used to be Big Ben's barbecue and I used to drink beer and eat barbecue in that building when I was lost.

And here it is for lease and in fact I found out later that it had been another church's first building too.

They had built a little platform in it and they had it kind of chopped up.

Later on, after Big Ben's barbecue, it became a putt putt golf.

So it was had a big putt putt golf line up there and had paintings of children putting on the green and green walls and flags.

It was really ugly Anyway, but it was for lease, it'd been, it's been vacant for quite a while.

And so I call the the number, and a broker real estate broker, a commercial real estate, came over there and come to find out he was a Baptist guy Deacon, and told him what I was doing, he said yeah, it was another church who was here for a while, about three years, and then they moved on, built their building, named the church, and I knew it.

And he said it's been this putt, but this, these people have gone over a year.

It's been vacant for over a year.

This, this guy's motivated.

He's motivated.

He said I think he'll take 60,000 a year lease.

See, that's 5000 a month.

Well, I didn't have $500.

I mean, I didn't have any money at all and we hadn't even had our first organizational meeting yet.

But somehow, you know, just by the witness, I knew that building was ours.

I said, well, look, what can we do?

I said that means before we move in, I've got to come up with.

What do I have to come up with?

To get into this building is where you got at least the first month's rent and then you've got to have the damage deposit, which is two months rich 10,000.

So I got to have $15,000 to move in this building.

He said no.

I said make him an offer, whatever you offering, and here's what I suggest you do.

So he started now he belongs.

See, he's being paid by the lease or I'm the leasee.

Right, he shouldn't be telling me this, he shouldn't be telling me this, but he did.

I had what favor?

I had favor with the guy.

He told me how to structure the offer and I'm going to give him full price.

He wants $60,000 a year.

Yes, give him the 60, but start out small.

Say, make him an offer, say you'll give him 2000 and say that you'll give him, say, a third or maybe a fourth of the damage deposit, so that you know you can, instead of giving him a 15,000, see if you can give him 3000.

And I forgot the specific figures, but it was about like that.

I just wrote it down and the man took the offer and here we had leased our first building and praise God, you know that's strategic favor Come to find out the lease, the lease or, in other words, the landlord.

After we moved in I started paying our rent and I would take it by.

God, put it in my heart, take it by to him personally.

He had an office on 1960 at a bank Chase Bank Building and so I would drive over there, usually a day or two before it was due.

It was due on the first.

I'd go over there on the 29th of the 30th and I'd peek in his office.

His secretary was sitting there and outside and I'd nodded her and I'd look around the corner to see if he saw me.

And if he looked my way, he most of the time he'd wave me in.

If he waved me in, I'd go down and sit down with him, talk to him, visit with him, give him the chat, and I did that for three and a half years.

I mean, we just I just I paid almost every one of our lease payments personally, like that to him, and had a conversation with him, had a relationship with him, and later on he was the one that sold us the 92.7 acres down the street.

Later on, after that, he was the one that gifted our church for the 85 acres that we had with this building.

And then, you know, I just talked to him the other day.

So after 26 years, I still have a relationship with that man that 26 years ago he took my offer.

I'm talking about strategic fact.

Come on, lift your hand, father.

Thank you for my strategic favor.

I know it belongs to me.

I thank you for it in advance.

I believe in 2021, we're going to discover strategic favor and some of you are going to have to get off a point A and get over to point B, because your favor's dried up where you are and it may be time for you to move on over to someplace else.

Anytime God drives up favor one place, it's going to be increasing somewhere else.

So pray and find out, and that's what I did.

So everybody say strategic favor.

So you let your, let those words come off your mouth.

It belongs to you, not just you know willy nilly.

It's in a direction that's consistent with God's plans and purposes and callings that he has for you.

So 2021, we need to grow in favor.

God is increasing his favor, and so I talk about being a tither.

But yes, be a tither, but also grow in generosity above the tither.

If you know, a tithing is part of favor, because when you tithe, you get ideas, concepts and insights so many that you can't hold them all.

God will open up the windows and pour out a blessing room enough to receive and that's not money, that's ideas, concepts, insights.

He gave me the idea and the concepts about how to lease that first.

Well, I thought you that.

I thought that guy told you.

It doesn't matter if the guy told me.

God gave it to me.

I don't have to think of everything.

God can give me information through it.

I mean, you know if God can use a donkey to talk, you know the donkey talked to a guy at one time in the Bible.

So I'm open to information.

I have a witness.

When somebody tells me truth, I know it's for me.

So that comes with tithing.

He'll protect your assets and he'll give you favor.

That's what comes with tithing.

Tithing is returning to God, the first hint that belongs to him.

Tithe is the Lord's.

But then giving is what happens when you give over and above the tithe.

And so if you grow in generosity, jesus said give and it shall be given unto you.

Now, he wasn't talking about tithing.

Tithing and giving are two different things.

Jesus said Luke 638, give and it shall be given unto you.

Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, shall God give unto your bosom?

No, not God.

Men shall men, men shall give unto your bosom.

In other words, your giving opens up favor with men in a direction.

Are you getting that?

Are you getting a hold of that?

So we had a chance to be very generous this weekend with Brother Mark.

I'll give you a complete rundown next Sunday.

But we sowed a really good seed and I'm so proud of this church for the seed that was sown.

And we're setting ourselves up for men to give unto our bosom.

See, god doesn't print money.

He doesn't rein money out of heaven.

The money that we need and want is right here on earth and God is able, as a result of our giving, to cause men to give it back to us in many ways, many, many ways sometimes as opportunity, sometimes as business deal, sometimes as employment, sometimes as raises, bonuses, all kinds of things.

Customers, if you're in sales, so stretch your faith.

Watch your strategic favor grow as you stretch your faith and become more generous in your giving.

All right, the second thing about growing in strategic favor is be quick to recognize God's favor.

Be quick to praise Him as soon as it shows up.

Don't pat yourself on the back.

Give Him thanks for it.

It's His work, it's what he's doing.

Oh, thank you, lord, for giving me that favor.

Hallelujah, I mean always, and praise God before you see it as far as that goes, because it does belong to you.

And then, finally, be quick to follow your favor.

That's what Brother Osteen used to tell me on it, and he used to preach this all the time Follow your favor.

He'd tell me we'd be traveling, you know, and he knew time or two I was struggling in my business.

He said oh, john, just follow your favor, follow your favor.

And I followed my favor to open this church.

That was my favor right there.

That was the favor of God for me to open this church and start it 26 years ago.

I give God the glory for it.

I give God that he gave me favor with you.

Favor with you to tune in tonight.

Favor with many of you that count yourself members of this church or you're interested in this church enough to listen to the live stream.

So quick to follow your favor.

That favor that is there is for your own promotion.

It's a one way street for promotion, for preferential treatment.

It's a one way street to ease.

You know, aren't you tired of having things hard, having things full of conflict?

You get on God's one way street of favor, you get an acceleration right on up to ease.

He makes it.

He's a facilitator.

God is the master facilitator.

Facilitator means to make it facile, to make it easy, and he wants to make life easier and take all the tough out of it, and I know that's hard in today's day.

That's when we need it, especially in the end times in which we're living.

I got one other verse that I came across this morning that ought to.

In fact it's the first message at Brother Osteen ever that I ever heard him preach, way back in 1980, first time I ever heard him, didn't know who he was.

I was visiting that church for the first time and I still remember the message because it was so.

I mean, I'd never heard a message like that on a side.

I was used to homilies, I was used to stuff that didn't match.

You know real spiritual, you know he was just real practical.

And he preached on Proverbs 3, 3,.

Let not mercy and truth forsake thee.

Bind them about thy neck, write them upon the table of your heart, so shall you find favor and good understanding in the sight of God and man.

Bind mercy and truth about your neck.

Mercy.

And he just preached a whole message on the dues.

What are the dues?

Bind mercy, be merciful.

When you have an opportunity, be merciful.

And Brother Osteen was the most merciful.

I heard him talk to preachers that had sinned, preachers that had fallen, and he would be so merciful to them, he would be so kind to them and he would encourage them and say I'm for you, I'm praying for it.

This is not the end, you know.

God's gonna raise you back up.

Just brother, just keep on going, don't quit now.

I mean, I've heard him do it and mercy, he was so merciful.

And see, that's one way to get favor Be merciful.

And then truth you have to love the truth.

Many people don't love the truth nowadays.

People love alive.

People love they're being deceived.

They're being really deceived is not exactly right.

They're being deluded.

What you're seeing today is delusion.

Well, let's not tap into that.

Let's tap into the truth of the Word of God.

Let's hang on to it because ultimately, it will grant us favor and good understanding in the sight of both God and man.

Don't we need both?

Yes, we do, and so let's determine in 2021 that we're gonna grow in our strategic favor with God and man.

Come on, lift your hands and receive the Word tonight.

Praise God, hallelujah, thank God for favor.

In these days, you know, I keep going back to what God said about the Israelites on.

God gave them favor in the sight of the Egyptians to spoil them on their way out of town.
