Overcoming Disappointment

You don't have to stand back up.

You've been standing up for a while.

Let's just wave our bibles around, make Jesus glad, the devil mad.

Let's say this together Say Heavenly Father, I'm so glad to be alive right now.

I'm encouraged, I'm refreshed.

I say it by faith.

I'm refreshed Because the Holy Ghost lives big in me.

He's not hit just hitchhiking, he lives in me to put me over In every circumstance of life I overcome in Jesus' name, amen.

Let's look at Proverbs 13 and I believe, this word being encouragement, the Holy Ghost just took off on this direction.

So Proverbs 13, verse 12, hope deferred make at the heart sick, but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life.

I like the message.

Listen to this one.

The message says it this way Unrelenting disappointment leaves you heart sick, but a sudden good break can turn life around.

So tonight I just wanted to share a simple message, but one that's needed right now overcoming disappointment.

Overcoming disappointment, disappointment comes to all.

You know the devil uses our strength against us.

You know, like judo, that's a martial art.

They taught our boys in World War II about the art of judo, because Japanese soldiers had judo so they had to show them about judo.

Judo mainly uses someone's momentum and when they're coming against you, judo turns the momentum of the attacker around and uses it against them.

And usually if somebody's attacking you, judo can make them get on the ground, fall on the ground.

Then you fall on top of them and take control.

And so faith people believe the best.

They aim high.

Isn't that right?

Anybody can believe for nothing.

Anybody can aim at the ground and hit it right.

But when you're aiming at a target it's a little different.

And so faith, hebrews 11-1,.

What faith is?

A substance of things hope for.

That's the definition of faith.

Hebrews 11-1,.

Faith is a substance of things hope for.

Or we could put it this way faith is a substance of positive expectations.

But the Webster's dictionary defines disappointment as failure of expectation, failure of desire or failure of intention, a miscarriage of the plan.

So by definition, disappointment is harmful to your faith because your expectation is no longer positive, you're negative.

That's what disappointment does.

Disappointment a failure of expectation or desire or intention in relationships, finances, health, ourselves.

Sometimes you ever disappointed yourself.

Sometimes we're our own worst enemy.

We disappointed ourselves.

You know we got to get over it, amen.

It's vital to overcome disappointment.

Vital, you know.

Jesus said it this way, john 16-33.

He said in the world, you shall have tribulation.

And when you expand that word, it means pressure, trouble, anguish, distress, frustration.

I think you could put disappointment in there, couldn't you?

In the world, you'll be disappointed.

That's what Jesus said.

In the world, you're going to be disappointed.

But he said be of good cheer or be of good courage.

In other words, be confident, be brave.

I have overcome the world.

The continued evil will be revealed to one², defeated, seenered down by pure spiritual truth.

The world, amplified, says I have deprived it of its power to harm you and have conquered it for you.

Praise God.

Talking about overcoming disappointment.

It's vital.

It's vital to your success, it's vital to your health, it's vital to your peace of mind not to let disappointment stay there.

You've got to overcome it, amen.

And so I've got one, two, three, three things I think we can talk about to help you tonight, instead of having an altar call.

See, I could have.

When the Holy Ghost was moving right there, I was tempted to say okay, how many of you are struggling with disappointment?

Come on up here and I'll pray over you.

Well, let's talk about the Word.

The Word is better than hands being having hands laid on and then, if you want prayer, then we can seal it up at the end.

But I mean, you know, sometimes the Word is what we need.

We're not babies.

I'm not preaching to a bunch of babies.

Praise God, you're mature, the Word will do the work on it.

All right, the first thing an overcoming disappointment is recognized.

That disappointment is an emotion.

And what is an emotion?

Emotion is fueled by the five senses.

I've been on that lately.

But your five senses, that's what?

That, whatever information you take with your five senses, those are the things that can tend to disappoint you.

What you see, what you hear, what you smell, what you taste, what you feel, that's the five senses, or the gateway into your, you know, into your emotions.

And that's it comes with the world.

The world, the flesh and the devil is all in charge of disappointment.

But 1 Peter 412 says think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you, but rejoice, I mean, we shouldn't be amazed because something didn't turn out quite right.

Someone didn't turn out.

Maybe we didn't turn out right, it's quite right.

Maybe we didn't respond in a certain situation.

Quite right, I was confessing my sin this morning, talking about how, in 2016, god showed me in 1 Corinthians how that I had gone to war at my own expense.

I said why, really Me?

And when the enormity of that hit me, it was kind of hard.

I was disappointed myself, disappointed that it took me so long to know that it's not like I'm not on speaking terms with the Lord.

He expects me, though, to press in, and so I had to kind of get over myself, had to get over it, and then I had to take action, and the action was very painful because I had to end a long term situation partnership and the missions field where we had given for years into a and I know we did a lot of good, but God had been done with that for some time, and I didn't hear it.

I didn't know it, but I had to.

I had not to be amazed.

Think it not strange?

Concerning the fiery trial, in other words, don't make it bigger than it is.

Whatever you magnify will be magnified.

I mean, if I'd have just beat myself up for weeks, it would have hurt the church.

It would have hurt me physically.

Are you with me now?

Whatever you magnify will be magnified.

And so look at Paul.

He said in 2 Corinthians 4.17, when he was facing all the difficulties, it seemed like everybody came and glued at him.

It seemed like he, every time he turned around, somebody was betraying him, somebody was after him, somebody wanted to kill him, somebody was raising a ruckus.

Well, he said this light affliction, which is just for a moment, worketh in me an internal weight of glory.

He just took it.

He didn't magnify the trouble, he magnified the effect it had on him.

He just I'm just getting stronger and more glorious every day.

Keep it in perspective.

In other words, keep disappointment in perspective.

Don't let it.

You know a word that's overused devastated.

How many have you heard that?

Maybe you've used it yourself.

I was just when I heard that I was just devastated.

Did you know what devastated means?

I mean?

Devastated means laid waste.

Really, were you laid waste?

Were you destroyed?

Were you ravaged?

That's the 1828 Webster dictionary definition of the word devastated.

So what is devastated?

Devastated is almost always overused.

You could say devastated if you were chopped in two, if you were run over by an 18 wheeler, I would say that was true.

Yeah, they were devastated.

They devastated themselves all the way to heaven.

But other than that, when you just talk about something that disappointed you and you call it I was devastated, well, you know what You've overstated.

Isn't that what the Democrats do, by the way?

They're always overstating what happens.

They use the most inflammatory language to describe something.

Of course it's lie anyway.

But the more they're called into account, the higher the heat gets.

So you know Acts 1539, you can just put it down, look at it later.

But Paul and Barnabas, they had sharp the Bible says they had a sharp contention between the two of them.

Now you know Barnabas and Saul.

And then it became Paul.

As he matured in ministry His name was changed from Saul to Paul, but Barnabas was the guy that introduced him to the apostles.

He's the one that vouched for him at the beginning.

So you could kind of tell that Barnabas was the head of the and it was always Barnabas and Saul.

Barnabas and Saul.

But at some point in the book of Acts you'll see a difference and all of a sudden it's Paul and Barnabas, and that makes a difference.

When the Holy Ghost changed the order, that lets you know that a change has occurred and someone has been promoted, namely Paul.

No slide on Barnabas, but just Paul was promoted.

They're both apostles, but Paul is suddenly.

It's Paul and Barnabas.

And so after their first missionary journey they get back and they make a report, and now they're deciding to go on their second missionary journey and they had contention over John Mark, which was his nephew.

He wanted to take John Mark along.

They took John Mark along the first time and he left them in a lurch.

They had to raise the money for him to go, and then he didn't finish the course and his job was probably if I had to guess, his job was to bear the burdens and cook the beans and make the coffee.

He was probably the gopher.

He's a young kid, nothing wrong with him as immature, and he was too immature to go on that first journey.

And so Paul relented and said okay, you want to take John Mark.

Well then, you know, john Mark left them.

So the second go around.

As far as it wasn't a personal vendetta against John Mark, it's just that he's not mature enough to go on this journey.

So they had sharp contention.

And the Bible says that Jesus fell off the throne.

No, it doesn't say that.

You know, I've had some contention in my ministry.

There's been a few sharp words spoken and Jesus didn't fall off the throne but anyway.

So they split up and Paul chose Silas and Barnabas took John Mark and Barnabas falls off the pages of the Bible.

You never read about him again.

He's gone, he's disappeared.

But you see Paul and Silas have another missionary journey and later on Paul mentions John Mark and says hey, bring him, he's profitable, meet him for the ministry.

So it wasn't personal, it wasn't a vendetta, it wasn't, you know, something that should have had contention.

But you know, barnabas just took it wrong.

He got sideways, he let his disappointment turn into bitterness and it cost him dearly.

Are you with me now?

And Paul could have.

He had the same opportunity to be disappointed in Barnabas, but he overcame it and he said well, you know, that's just the way it goes.

I'm going to keep on going, serving God and do what God told me to do.

And he just kept on rolling Amen.

So your feelings and emotions will follow your faith If you will just do the word.

Paul did the word and he just was successful.

He didn't let unrelenting disappointment take him down.

Is this helping you tonight?

All right?

Number two when disappointment comes, it's so important.

Don't blame God.

Why did God allow this, you know?

Get that out of your vocabulary, because God allows everything we allow, not about God allowing anything.

The quicker you will lose that way of thinking, the better off you're going to be.

This is the people that don't know God as well as you do.

They don't know the word.

We haven't been taught what we've been taught and they're always saying, well, god allowed this, god allowed that.

Just get that out of your vocabulary.

That's a terrible way to think of it, because God allows everything.

He delegated his entire authority to the church.

Everything that happens is the church's responsibility.

It's not God up there with a puppet show.

He doesn't have people on the string.

He's not making this happen, making that happen, making this storm come, this cloud come over you.

No, it's not God that did it.

Everything that hurts and destroys comes from where the devil.

So God never fails your expectation.

Isn't that what disappointment is?

Never allow yourself to be disappointed in God.

That's just another way of blaming him.

Boy, it's getting quiet in here.

Praise God, might have to turn the air conditioning.

It's getting kind of hot on us.

I don't know.

You know what he won't waste whatever it is you're going through.

He won't send trouble, but he won't waste it.

He'll help you, he'll teach you Amen.

Yeah, it might be a person.

If it is a person, of course we need to forgive.

Let's look at Colossians.

This is one that helps.

It can really.

Sometimes we have to preach to ourselves.

Sometimes we have to take the Word and beat the devil over the head.

We have to get our flesh under subjection.

Colossians 3-12,.

Put on, therefore, as the elect of God.

Everybody shout that's me, holy and beloved.

That's how God looks at you, holy and beloved.

Bowls of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, long suffering, forbearing one another and forgiving one another.

If any man have a quarrel against any, even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye, amen, ha, ha, ha ha.

And above all these things, put on a gapay.

Put on, you know, just put on the love of God.

Just put on the love.

Wear it.

Love never fails.

Love is a strength.

Love doesn't insist on having its own way.

Just what Brother Mark and Sister Trinna were preaching while they were here these last days.

These are the times when we can rub each other the wrong way.

Sometimes there can be misunderstanding, sometimes you can just, somebody will say something.

It just hits your ear wrong.

They didn't mean it the way you thought they meant it.

And then you get kind of puffed up.

See, look, when you think that somebody's taking advantage of you, when you think that somebody's talking bad about you, the devil is working on you.

That's when you better put on love right down.

You better put it on right and you better stop that down.

It's uh-uh-uh, I smelled the diablo and it's not hot sauce.

Amen, praise God, you know, release forgiveness for the source.

And then you might find out that you might need to ask their forgiveness.

You might be the one at fault.

You don't know.

Sometimes you just don't know right at the first, especially when somebody else is doing the talking about someone.

Say, that's gossip, you know what so-and-so said.

Well, maybe they didn't say it the way you're hearing it.

Amen.

If it's a bad medical report, maybe you're disappointed because you got a bad medical report.

Well, hey, you got a better report right here.

Why don't you focus on this report right here and throw the MRI away, throw out the prognosis, the diagnosis, the you know all of that and focus on this report?

Himself bear your sickness, took your infirmities, buy his stripes.

You were healed, thank God, you're here, you're here, you're here, you're here, you're here, you're here, you're here.

Yeah, thank God you don't have to get it because Jesus done, god it and gave it to you.

And you have it, and it's mine.

Hallelujah ária.

Old Evolution, unprecedented technology, luck, ha-ha, ha, habong.

Pastor, would you pray?

I'm gonna have awest brun.

Pray that I get a good report.

We'll see.

I'm not gonna do that.

You've already got a good report.

That report is irrelevant.

It might be used for, it might not be, if it's not a seed that's growing that shows you that your faith is working, is working when you just disregard it.

Pray that you get a good report.

I don't know what kind of reports you're going to come up with.

You know what.

That report is generated by the five senses.

Some doctor's five senses is interpreting that, whatever it was, thank God for what medicine can do, but it can't heal you.

There's one thing that can heal you Praise God.

One person, jesus, is the healer, isn't he?

If it's a financial bad report financial I've had a few of those Well, you just got to praise God in the midst of it and pray for wisdom.

Pray for a way of escape.

If it's a financial reversal, something has turned a different way.

I mean, yeah, it didn't work out the way you planned.

Oh man, how many of those have I had?

When you build a house and it takes you a year to build it, took you six months to plan it, you put everything you have in it and it doesn't sell.

Nobody likes it.

Let me tell you, it's pretty disappointing.

I had to get over myself.

Amen, are y'all with me now?

Ephesians five, 20 says giving thanks, and it says in the King James four all things.

I differ with that.

I believe it's in all things.

We don't give thanks for the devil, what the devil does, but we can give thanks in the middle of what the devil has done.

Because why?

Because we know we're overcoming it.

That's why we give thanks.

God has always praised where it's always.

He's always worthy of our praise.

I mean, just learn to laugh at the devil.

There's no point in getting to allowing disappointment to linger on you.

Don't blame God.

He's your way out.

He careth for you.

First, peter five.

Let's look at that one real quick.

The more you fret and worry about it, god's ready to take it.

God's ready to take care of it.

Humble yourself, therefore, into the mighty hand, god, that he may exalt you in D time.

He just he's going to exalt you in due time.

Praise God, all right.

Everybody say God's my way out, all right.

And then and then, when you remember now that we're talking about an emotion, disappointment is an emotion.

That's exactly what it is, not your spirit.

How many of you know?

Do you believe that your spirit goes around being disappointed?

No, your spirit is in contact with the Holy Ghost, amen.

So it's a flesh thing, it's a mind thing.

So the third response to overcoming disappointment claim by faith the peace of God.

Just claim it.

You don't feel it, your emotions don't have.

Your emotions are, you know you're kind of sad.

You know what is disappointing.

Well, it's sadness, it's you know it's, it's, you know it affects you, it's a downer.

So, right in the middle of that, claim the peace of God.

On what basis?

We're?

Colossians 315.

The Bible says let the word of Christ dwell in you richly and all.

Let the peace of God be in you richly.

Let the peace of God, excuse me, colossians 315.

Let the peace of God rule in your hearts.

Amplify it, act as an umpire.

Let the peace of God rule in your hearts to the which you were called in one body and be you thankful.

So there again there's that, that be thankful business.

So let the word.

Let the peace of God, let the peace of God rule.

Praise God.

Let the peace of God rule, let it rule, let it, let it take over, let it take over.

And then verse 16, let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, and all wisdom, let the word of Christ.

Well, who is the word?

Well, jesus is the word, isn't he?

And what's another name for him?

Prince of Peace.

So when you're letting the word dwell in you richly, then the Prince of Peace is ruling in there.

Come on, let's thank him right now for that peace, a peace that passes all understanding and it just lets all the air out of the devil's controversy.

He's always trying to create controversy, he's always trying to bring division.

He's always trying to bring sadness.

He's always trying to get a foothold in your thinking.

Now, remember, in Proverbs it says unrelenting disappointment.

Unrelenting, say something that has not been faced.

Unrelenting, in other words, you haven't dealt with it, you've just let it be in there.

You went ahead and had a pity party and you invited all your friends, all your demon friends, because they'll come, they'll be right in there with you.

They'll bring up every negative thing that's ever happened to you, play you a videotape.

And so unrelenting disappointment leaves you heart sick.

So listen to this one a sick heart is not good ground for your faith to work.

You're gonna put up with disappointment.

You're gonna have a heart, a sick heart, and faith is of the heart.

A heart is the spirit.

You can actually do damage to your own spirit by entertaining disappointment.

Praise God.

So your sudden good break that the message talks about, your sudden good break, is not chance.

It's not just good luck oh well, how lucky.

No, it comes from choosing to be a doer of the word rather than a victim.

Praise God.

God didn't create victims, he created victors.

Come on, let's lift our hands.

Overcoming disappointment.

And you know when I, when, every time I see Biden, I'm tempted to just be disappointed.

Ever, you know.

I mean, he was in town.

He came to town I guess what was it Friday?

And bless his heart.

It was like a husband and wife.

Shirley Jackson Lee called her Shirley Sheila.

It's Sheila, shirley Jackson Lee.

He was stumbling around, he was trying to read.

He couldn't read his own speech and he's trying to read the speech and he had all the all of the brilliant Democrats here in town and you know, turner, hildalgo, you know he was stumbling over all their names and didn't get any of their first names.

It was embarrassing.

And then he kind of looked and he blinked like that and he said what am I doing here?

No, I saw it.

Did you see it?

What am I doing here?

Twilight Zone.

So then he kind of thought, well, I better go greet these people.

And they're all out there ready to shake his hand.

They've all got their masks on.

That's another thing.

It's hilarious.

All of them with the mask on.

And he didn't have his mask on and he forgot his mask.

He went over there and started shaking hands with all of them.

He didn't have his mask on.

And so Kamala Baby said you forgot your mask.

Oh yeah, my mask.

And he remembered it was laying on the podium and he stumbled back over the podium.

That's when he said what am I doing here?

That's when it was.

I get disappointed, tempted to disappointment, when I see them in places of power, because it makes me disappointed that America has gone that direction.

But anybody see Trump today.

Anybody watch Trump?

We have the fights went.

They were there at CPAC.

I don't know who else might have gone, but anyway they were going.

But you know what?

Listen, jesus is still on the throne and we can do a lot.

The church is still the church.

Amen.

I'm preaching to myself now and we can still affect change.

Amen, praise God, be encouraged, hallelujah.
