  2. all right um that was awful um like the

  3. 8:30 was better than that so I realized

  4. that grass Lots less than ideal all

  5. right we're working on it like I know

  6. you're whooped from that walk first

  7. world problems all right but uh we are

  8. so grateful that you are here with us

  9. today uh and let me just say we're

  10. grateful for a number of different

  11. reasons but uh number one is that we

  12. find ourselves continuing in this

  13. collection of conversations that we've

  14. been in over the course of the past

  15. several weeks and so uh this is a

  16. conversation and a collection that is

  17. fixated and focused on the idea of

  18. Revival and revitalization not just

  19. within an individual but within a group

  20. of individuals what we would call our

  21. church right and so uh the Renaissance

  22. is a period of time in history a title

  23. that I have stolen from a period of time

  24. in history where we see that there was a

  25. lot happening in Revival and

  26. revitalization in different fields like

  27. like art and literature and culture uh

  28. in science in the church that ended up

  29. shaping Europe over the course of the

  30. 14th to the 16th centuries but we have

  31. discussed how more importantly for us

  32. the actual definition of Renaissance is

  33. Revival or renewed interest in something

  34. and we believe that there is a Revival

  35. and A Renewed interest that is happening

  36. in the church all throughout the world

  37. but that we're seeing something

  38. beautiful and specific Happening Here in

  39. our midst in this place and so we've

  40. been talking about over the course of

  41. the past several weeks how uh we are

  42. transitioning the church's name from

  43. LifeBridge Church to key Church which

  44. will happen on September the 7th and

  45. there's a lot of exciting things that

  46. are going to coincide with that but in

  47. dropping that news we also wanted to

  48. make sure we don't just announce that

  49. and move on we wanted to journey through

  50. seven weeks and seven subsequent values

  51. of who it is that we believe that the

  52. Lord is leading us to be and to become

  53. and so we've talked about four values

  54. already that Jesus is our purpose that

  55. belonging is our heart that stewardship

  56. is our responsibility that Excellence is

  57. our standard and today we're going

  58. through our fifth value which is simply

  59. this that passion is our posture passion

  60. is our posture you might say what does

  61. that mean I'll tell you uh in about 37

  62. minutes and 43 seconds but I want you to

  63. know uh that important for us to

  64. understand here today is that to have a

  65. recognition of who Jesus is is not the

  66. equivalent of having a passion for who

  67. he is and what he's done and so I want

  68. to read a short verse here together in

  69. Romans chter 12 verse 11 I'm going to

  70. read this and then we are going to

  71. unpack it in depth and a lot of things

  72. around it as well does that sound good

  73. all right let's read we'll pray and jump

  74. in says this do not lack diligence in

  75. Zeal be fervent in the spirit serve

  76. serve the Lord do not La diligence in

  77. Zeal be fervent in the spirit serve the

  78. Lord will you pray with

  79. me Lord there's a lot

  80. there uh and there's a lot there that I

  81. don't want us to

  82. miss and so today

  83. Lord even just your spirit moving in

  84. people in the room in worship Lord I

  85. just ask that we would be a people

  86. today that has this land in a freeing

  87. way within us Lord would you rearrange

  88. some of our preconceived notions that

  89. maybe have led us to live a less than

  90. enthusiastic life for you Lord would you

  91. do something that only you can do

  92. through the preaching of your word and

  93. the power of the word itself Lord we

  94. love you we praise you and we thank you

  95. we ask these things in Jesus name amen

  96. well on April the 16th

  97. 1867 Wilbur Wright was born as

  98. ultimately the middle child of five

  99. children in milville Indiana uh his

  100. father Milton Wright and his mother

  101. Susan Katherine Corner ended up getting

  102. married and they found themselves moving

  103. quite a bit all throughout uh their

  104. childhood because Milton Wright his

  105. father was a bishop in the Church of the

  106. United brethren in Christ and so he had

  107. a lot of different preaching assignments

  108. that would take him different places but

  109. ultimately it would move them to a lot

  110. of different places as well and so they

  111. would relocate fairly often well in the

  112. spring of 1869 the family ended up being

  113. relocated from milville Indiana to

  114. Dayton Ohio where two years later they

  115. would welcome another son named Orville

  116. Wilbur and Orville would end up becoming

  117. very close as brothers and they would

  118. share a lot of similar interests some of

  119. which would ultimately come to fruition

  120. as a result of Milton their father's

  121. travels because Milton was preaching all

  122. over the country he was would often find

  123. himself in different assignments and

  124. towns and cities that would allow him to

  125. see things that his family simply could

  126. not and so he would bring home little

  127. Trinkets and toys and gifts for his

  128. children and after one particular

  129. preaching assignment in 1878 he would

  130. bring home a gift that would ultimately

  131. change the trajectory of his son's

  132. Futures that he ended up bringing home a

  133. little small toy model helicopter made

  134. of paper and bamboo it had a small

  135. little rubber band that had the power to

  136. twirl the blade on top and we see that

  137. it was a toy a model that he had ended

  138. up picking up after realizing that there

  139. was a French Aeronautics Pioneer by the

  140. name of alons panad that had ended up

  141. constructing possibilities for human

  142. flight and so as a result this ended up

  143. instilling within Orville and Wilber

  144. this Fascination and a passion for man

  145. being in the air for taking flight and

  146. so in 1889 they would exercise their

  147. entrepreneurial spirit and they would

  148. find themselves opening up a newspaper

  149. called the Westside news

  150. and they would ultimately realize that

  151. Wilbur could edit it and that Orville

  152. could publish it and they could make a

  153. little side money to be able to fund

  154. another passion that they had discovered

  155. a craze that was sweeping the nation at

  156. the time in the late 1800s

  157. bicycles they loved and had a passion

  158. for bicycles that gave them a little bit

  159. more experience in the mechanics of how

  160. different things could move and so they

  161. ended up creating their own design they

  162. founded their own shop and they ended up

  163. funding what would be their ultimate and

  164. their true passion through this shop

  165. which would be flight they had a lot of

  166. different mechanical projects and

  167. designs that they were constantly

  168. working on and doing so under the

  169. distant tutelage of individuals that

  170. they really admired one individual in

  171. particular whom they loved was a man

  172. named Otto lenthal Otto lenthal was a

  173. German aviator who also shared this love

  174. and passion for Aeronautics and so what

  175. ended up devastating the brothers is

  176. when they came to find out that lenthal

  177. had ended up perishing in a glider crash

  178. on a mission to discover a little bit

  179. more information about the mechanics of

  180. flight but it didn't deter the brothers

  181. it actually made them even more

  182. determined to continue in all it is that

  183. they felt inspired to do that nothing

  184. was going to stop them and so they ended

  185. up moving for a season to Kittyhawk

  186. North Carolina an area that was known

  187. for its incredible winds which was in

  188. incredible for the work that they were

  189. doing and so they found themselves

  190. working on different designs for wings

  191. that would be most conducive for flight

  192. and they ended up developing a concept

  193. called Wing warping had a movable Rudder

  194. attached to it and on on December the

  195. 17th 1903 they would end up successfully

  196. having the first ever flight of its kind

  197. a free controlled flight in a heavier

  198. than air plane that lasted for 59

  199. seconds and traveled

  200. 852 feet they had nothing to accomplish

  201. this other than passion to serve the

  202. purpose of getting man in the air

  203. nothing I mean they didn't have any

  204. money they had never amassed some kind

  205. of Fortune Milton wasn't balling I'll

  206. tell you that nobody was doing anything

  207. crazy in order to give them some kind of

  208. sum of money that would allow them to do

  209. all these things they didn't have

  210. investors or backing of any kind of

  211. level they did not have any kind of

  212. formal degree in engineering or anything

  213. like that wouldn't you love to fly in

  214. their plane and so you see here that

  215. you've got all of these guys they have

  216. nothing in their life to go on they have

  217. countless failures they're being

  218. ridiculed Ked by others they risked

  219. Financial ruin they had nothing other

  220. than a passion diligence and fervency a

  221. Zeal to see this all come to life and I

  222. say that to you because the truth of the

  223. matter is everyone in here is probably

  224. passionate about something there's a lot

  225. of us that are in here and you have

  226. passion and there's a different

  227. origination story for all of that like

  228. your origin story of where the thing

  229. you're most passionate came to be and

  230. develop in your life might be different

  231. than other people a lot of times it's

  232. that you saw a hero doing something or a

  233. parent doing something and you so

  234. desperately wanted to be like them and

  235. do that it instilled and developed a

  236. passion within you maybe it's not that

  237. but maybe someone in your life when you

  238. were young told you that you were good

  239. at this or you were good at that and so

  240. in that moment you started to develop

  241. this passion within you for this thing

  242. that you believe that you are wired to

  243. do Wilbur and Orville end up having

  244. their imagination captive as children

  245. and it ended up instilling a passion and

  246. igniting a passion in them that lasted

  247. well past them into adulthood and what

  248. we see is that there are all of these

  249. different reasons that you could have a

  250. passion for this or a passion for that

  251. in your life and regardless of what that

  252. passion is in your life and regardless

  253. of how it came to be and how you see it

  254. developing and continuing on in your

  255. life I believe that the Church of Jesus

  256. Christ needs to have an imbalance scale

  257. where we realize whatever it is that

  258. most captures my heart and my mind in

  259. this life how much more should I burn

  260. with passion for The Rescuer and the

  261. Redeemer the secur of my salvation how

  262. much more should I be a person that says

  263. I am here to serve him because of all

  264. that he's done for me that's what we're

  265. going for today that's who we want to be

  266. what does that look like I think we all

  267. in here understand understand we are

  268. warned against being

  269. lukewarm and it for whatever reason it

  270. it it doesn't necessarily land in us we

  271. know it's in the

  272. book but it it doesn't

  273. necessarily impact us and so I felt like

  274. we need to understand we are warned

  275. against being lukewarm Revelation 3: 14-

  276. 21 the Church of laod DEA is being

  277. warned in a letter that the Lord

  278. addressed to them about being quote Luke

  279. warm which is not a nice thing to say to

  280. someone your lukewarm is to say that you

  281. are not beneficial in any way shape or

  282. form I I know people are like that's

  283. harsh the Lord's harsher than people

  284. want him to be you're you're you're

  285. lukewarm uh you're you're not beneficial

  286. from the standpoint you're neither cold

  287. nor hot you're not cold which means

  288. you're not refreshing and enlivening in

  289. some way and you're also not hot in a

  290. way where hot water can be purifying and

  291. it can be cleansing you're neither of

  292. those things and the loud Deans would

  293. have UND OD what it means to drink

  294. lukewarm water and how nasty it was the

  295. Church of laoda ended up getting their

  296. drinking water from a distant source

  297. that was six miles away it would travel

  298. across an aqueduct that would end up

  299. bringing drinking water from six miles

  300. to the south of them and they would find

  301. themselves by the time that water

  302. arrived drinking it and they would say

  303. that it is disgusting and so we see that

  304. the Lord is saying to them you are

  305. neither cold and

  306. refreshing and you are also not hot like

  307. the water ERS that you are used to

  308. bathing in in the springs that are

  309. nearby but rather you are lukewarm and I

  310. will quote vomit you out of my

  311. mouth I think there's a lot of lukewarm

  312. Believers in the world today and I think

  313. a lot of that stems from the fact that

  314. we seem to not be able to delineate the

  315. difference between having an

  316. appreciation and a passion I think

  317. there's a lot of us that are in the room

  318. and we might be in a place where it's

  319. like you know what I have an

  320. appreciation for J Jesus but I don't

  321. necessarily have a passion for Jesus I I

  322. I'm have this awareness of who he is and

  323. what he's done for me but I don't have a

  324. passion to serve him as a result of who

  325. he is and what he's done for me and so

  326. we find ourselves living at a time where

  327. there's a lot of moralistic therapeutic

  328. deism which is just to say that there's

  329. a lot of us that are probably living a

  330. gospel life that is a little bit more

  331. affiliated with Karma than the gospel of

  332. grace where we're like I don't want to

  333. do this because I don't want God to do

  334. that to me and I don't I don't want to

  335. find myself over here cuz I don't know

  336. what'll happen then and we feel like

  337. we're stuck between these two worlds

  338. when the truth of the matter is we

  339. should be living with the conviction of

  340. not going well I just want to be good

  341. enough and live right but rather we

  342. should make sure that we're a people

  343. that say Hey I'm not just claiming that

  344. I know him I'm living like I do that I'm

  345. actually in a position where I can say

  346. beyond a shadow of a doubt I am living

  347. with diligence and fervency I am living

  348. my life to serve him with passion to

  349. serve him because he transformed my life

  350. to whom else would I go God to my

  351. Earthly passions or to you where am I

  352. going and so we see here that it is

  353. addressed in Romans 12:1 which is a

    Romans 12:1

  354. weird verse it's a weird verse uh Romans

    Romans 12:1

  355. 12:1 falls under a subheading in my uh

  356. scriptures and maybe it's different for

  357. you mind says Christian ethics yours

  358. might say the marks of a true Christian

  359. and it's interesting Romans 12: 9-21 we

  360. list off quite a number of different

  361. things and it says in verse 9 uh love

  362. without

  363. hypocrisy detest what is evil cling to

  364. what is good okay okay uh verse 10 love

  365. each other lead in honoring one another

  366. got it 12 rejoice in Hope totally be

  367. patient in Affliction absolutely be

  368. persistent in prayer probably should be

  369. more okay yeah uh 13 share with the

  370. Saints in their needs got it verse 14

  371. bless those who persecute you don't love

  372. that one but I get it bless and don't

  373. curse sure verse 15 Rejoice with those

  374. who Rejoice yeah weep with those who

  375. weep all right verse 16 live in harmony

  376. with everyone don't be proud associate

  377. with the humble don't be wise in your

  378. own estimation verse 17 don't repay

  379. anyone evil for evil give careful

  380. thought to what is Honorable for

  381. everyone that makes sense verse 18 if

  382. possible as it depends on you live at

  383. peace with

  384. everyone I don't love that one either

  385. but I get it um 19 don't avenge your

  386. yourself leave room for God's Wrath

  387. Vengeance belongs to me says the Lord I

  388. will repay verse 20 feed your enemy give

  389. them a drink uh verse 21 do not be

  390. conquered by evil conquer with good all

  391. that that's good and clear and that

  392. makes sense to me uh Romans 12: 9

  393. through 11 Christian ethics and the

  394. marks of a true Christian are pretty

  395. straightforward I don't think anything

  396. that I said there people were just like

  397. man what is

  398. that at least I hope not DET test what

  399. Evil all right cling to what's good love

  400. each other be filled with hope be

  401. prayerful be humble don't be proud but

  402. verse 11's a little less straightforward

  403. it's like the black sheep of this

  404. particular passage you're just kind of

  405. like H what what's going on here uh th

  406. this this has a little bit more

  407. ambiguousness to

  408. it it says do not lack diligence and

  409. Zeal be fervent in the spirit serve the

  410. Lord uh and so here's here's what I want

  411. to do and I I'm I'm going to preface

  412. this by saying I am not doing this um

  413. because I I hope that you all think that

  414. I'm smart or scholarly uh but but I'm

  415. I'm going to go through a couple of

  416. words in the original language of of

  417. this and it'll be quite a few three to

  418. be uh specific because uh I I don't know

  419. about you but even uh as someone who

  420. studies this all the time there's

  421. something about do not lack diligence

  422. and Zeal be fervent in the spirit serve

  423. the Lord that feels a little less

  424. straightforward then don't hate

  425. people and so it's interesting it says

  426. do do not lack diligence in

  427. Zeal in the original language do not

  428. lack comes from the word Aros it's

  429. opposed to us in a negative sense it

  430. carries a negative connotation with it

  431. it means quite literally uh to be slow

  432. to act or to live with hesitation which

  433. doesn't seem that bad off the top like

  434. there are lots of different scenarios

  435. and situations that you could present to

  436. me and then say so as a result of that I

  437. I'm I'm living with a little bit of

  438. hesitation in that regard or I'm I'm a

  439. little bit slow act as far as this is

  440. concerned and it would make sense there

  441. can be justifiable reasons for you to

  442. live with a slowness to act and with

  443. some hesitation but that is not what is

  444. being discussed here actually what is

  445. being said is that you live with

  446. hesitation or a slowness to act because

  447. you are negligent and

  448. slothful when we went through the

  449. parable of the talents a couple of weeks

  450. ago we see that Jesus will end up

  451. addressing the three different servants

  452. that were given three different levels

  453. of talents we see one was given in five

  454. and he earned five more one was given

  455. two and he earned two more one was given

  456. one and he buried it and when Jesus

  457. addresses the one who buried his talent

  458. he says to him in Matthew 25: 26 you

  459. evil lazy anos

  460. servant evil

  461. lazy in the septu the Greek translation

  462. of the Hebrew Bible we see that this

  463. word will be used 12 different times and

  464. it's often translated as Slugger

  465. which is not a kind

  466. term it means you're habitually

  467. lazy so when it says do not lack it's

  468. saying don't be habitually lazy don't

  469. live your life with hesitation in

  470. serving the lord or being slow to act in

  471. serving the lord because this that or

  472. the other don't justify your

  473. slothfulness don't do

  474. it it says do not lack in diligence

  475. diligence is the word SP day it's

  476. carries a more positive connotation it

  477. means to do something with intense

  478. effort and motivation What's significant

  479. about that it's a word that's associated

  480. with action which makes sense when you

  481. connect it to the fact that we're called

  482. to serve the Lord and so you see here

  483. that it's admonishing us in Romans 12:1

    Romans 12:1

  484. it's saying do not lack in diligence hey

  485. don't don't drag behind in your

  486. diligence because you're like I just

  487. don't know if I'm up for it I just don't

  488. really do I just don't really have time

  489. for it I just don't really know it

  490. rather with intense effort and eagerness

  491. and motivation serve the one who gave it

  492. all to have all of you like make sure

  493. that that's something that you're

  494. Desiring to do that you're not just

  495. trying to like do a Seas get degrees

  496. situation here folks we're not trying to

  497. do the bare minimum to

  498. pass but rather we are giving our

  499. all because he gave it all for us

  500. whatever you do work at it as if you

  501. serve the Lord Colossians 3 would tell

  502. us that's who we're called to be that we

  503. would not lack IND diligence in our

  504. Zeal be fervent in spirit fervent

  505. zo is a term that literally is talking

  506. about elements it's a it's a rather it's

  507. a rather obvious term if you read it it

  508. means to boil or to bubble that

  509. something is hot it would be used to

  510. talk about water that's boiling or metal

  511. that's glowing when it's been left in a

  512. fire for a period of time and obviously

  513. this is being used in a figurative sense

  514. here to be fervent in spirit is to say

  515. you be on fire you burn with passion for

  516. the things of God that we are called to

  517. be a people that are boiling so to speak

  518. that's the picture that's being painted

  519. in the spirit have enthusiasm and

  520. passion to live for our King and it's

  521. funny if you think about the word

  522. passion just in the English sense of the

  523. word uh usually whenever you hear the

  524. word passion you think about it in a

  525. positive way right I have passion for

  526. this I have passion for that person I

  527. have passion because I was changed by

  528. them or by that because I love them or

  529. that that I am I I'm thinking of passion

  530. usually in a positive context and yet

  531. the truth of the matter is that passion

  532. is not only used in the positive sense

  533. there's a wide spectrum of meaning on

  534. why you would have passion right like

  535. apparently Americans Love Murder

  536. documentaries the way that Netflix is

  537. presenting things

  538. right and uh my wife loves watching

  539. these things and so you know when she

  540. turns them on and they're talking about

  541. you know all the things that makes us

  542. really anxious and stuff you know you

  543. grab 60 ounces of cold brew and turn on

  544. a murder documentary and then hear about

  545. everything that's wrong in the world and

  546. just wonder I don't know why I'm

  547. stressed right now and what you find is

  548. it's interesting whenever she's got one

  549. of these murder documentaries on and

  550. they're talking about and so it was

  551. brutal in the midst of their sleep and

  552. then you're like who did it and they're

  553. like the one who loves them the most a

  554. loved one and so I book a hotel she

  555. keeps watching it and what we

  556. see is it usually someone close to these

  557. people that kill

  558. them and often times the

  559. narrator who's usually some washed up

  560. actor will say it is a crime

  561. of passion pause what that's not the

  562. word I would

  563. use but it

  564. is

  565. Passion can be there for a lot of

  566. different reasons it's

  567. secondary why do you have passion I can

  568. be passionate about killing you

  569. apparently or I can be passionate about

  570. loving

  571. you there is a wide spectrum of meaning

  572. why should we have

  573. passion why should we have passion I

  574. think there's a need for clarification

  575. on the passion that we have because of

  576. what we've experienced uh it's

  577. interesting The Passion of Christ is a

  578. Mel Gibson movie but it's also a

  579. theological term

  580. and The Passion of Christ uh is a term

  581. that comes from a Latin word that means

  582. to endure or

  583. suffer and it often is used to describe

  584. that period of

  585. time between Thursday and Friday between

  586. the Garden of Gethsemane where Jesus is

  587. praying and then book ends with the

  588. moment that the crucifixion is over and

  589. Jesus has died and what we see is that

  590. there's this term that's used for that

  591. it's called The Passion of Christ isn't

  592. that interesting

  593. and it's used to describe how he suffers

  594. for our salvation and that Romans

    Romans 5 chapter mention

  595. chapter 5 that God proved for us his

  596. love in this that while you and I were

  597. still sinners Christ died for us that

  598. what we see in The Passion of Christ is

  599. that his passion was to secure our

  600. Salvation through his suffering and

  601. demonstrate God's love to us a love that

  602. by the way 1 John 4 verse 19 says we

    1 John 4:19

  603. understand love and we know love because

  604. he first loved us that the reason that

  605. we have passion is because his passion

  606. extended to us became love that we

  607. understood and now love that we extend

  608. that it's because of what he's done his

  609. passion for you and I that we live with

  610. passion for him if his passion secured

  611. our Salvation then what else would I do

  612. but give all of who I am and all of what

  613. I have for him I have to his love and

  614. passion for me saved and changed me

  615. changed me I think about the Epic tale

  616. uh the count of Monty Christo anybody

  617. read or seen The Count of Monte Christo

  618. in here before speaking of The Passion

  619. of the Christ Jim cavel you know um I'm

  620. I'm partial to his version of the film

  621. uh there's a new like French version

  622. beautifully shot uh it's just it's just

  623. not Guy Pierce and Jim cavel and so uh

  624. it's interesting if you haven't seen it

  625. I'm I'm not going to ruin it for you but

  626. I'll fast forward to a moment uh the

  627. main character is is a man named Edmund

  628. Dantes Edmund Dantes is falsely accused

  629. and falsely imprisoned at the Chateau de

  630. it is reserved for the worst kinds of

  631. criminals and at the time usually it was

  632. those individuals that were partial to

  633. Napoleon bonapart and so what we see is

  634. that he ends up being falsely accused

  635. falsely imprisoned there and he ends up

  636. through miraculous means escaping and he

  637. ends up swimming to the nearest

  638. Shoreline and he's just kind of like

  639. celebrating on the shore and he's

  640. running around and his arms are flailing

  641. and he's so excited about the freedom

  642. that he just found and he ends up

  643. running across a band of pirates that

  644. are just kind of watching him on the

  645. shore fre out like a

  646. lunatic and the leader of that band of

  647. pirates says I don't know

  648. you but I noticed that you just swam

  649. from that direction which is a

  650. prison and you barely have any clothes

  651. on your back so I need you to

  652. participate in a knife fight with our

  653. best knife fighter and I will know that

  654. it is an act of God if you win our best

  655. knife fighter will die and that will

  656. mean that you were meant to sail with us

  657. however I think it's more than likely

  658. that our best knife fighter is going to

  659. kill you and we will be rid of a

  660. psychopath prisoner and so they end up

  661. finding themselves in this battle Edmund

  662. Dantes and their best knife fighter

  663. yakoo and as they're dueling it looks

  664. really even until Edmund miraculously

  665. pins yakoo to the sand he has his knife

  666. to his throat and is about to kill him

  667. but rather flips the blade and stabs the

  668. sand over top of yakoo head whose eyes

  669. are about to come out of his skull and

  670. in that moment Edmund looks to the

  671. leader of the band of pirates and he

  672. says to him I have a better

  673. idea how about both of us live I will

  674. have extended Mercy to your best knife

  675. fighter and now I will sail with you and

  676. you will have two loyal Sailors that

  677. help you in your quest so long as you

  678. can help me get to the place that I want

  679. to go and the leader of the pirate says

  680. sounds good to me and are about to go

  681. off but what's fascinating is that yakoo

  682. is still lying in the sand as Edmund

  683. Dantes is about to get up from over top

  684. of him and he is looking at this man

  685. realizing that he was within an of

  686. death and he grabs him by the little

  687. clothes that Edmund has on his back and

  688. he says listen to

  689. me I swear on my dead relatives and even

  690. the ones that aren't feeling too good

  691. right

  692. now I am your man

  693. forever and Edmund looks down at him and

  694. says I

  695. know because he would have died you're

  696. walking a path that leads towards death

  697. I am a dead man unless someone

  698. miraculously intervenes here and it did

  699. Edmund Dantes ended up miraculously

  700. intervening took the blade off his

  701. throat put it near his head but nowhere

  702. that it could touch him and said hey I

  703. will extend Mercy to you anded and we

  704. see that Edmund gets a response from

  705. yako who says I am going to live with

  706. passion to build your kingdom I'll build

  707. my savior's Kingdom how much more should

  708. that be true of us that have understood

  709. that we weren't saved from having a

  710. knife to our throat you were certainly

  711. walking towards death and he said I'll

  712. take it on so that you can live that

  713. that should be our testimony that should

  714. be the reason that we have passion and

  715. yet I realize that there are some of us

  716. that are in here and are like I'm still

  717. not feeling it

  718. though like like some of you are like

  719. congratulations on being a a lunatic up

  720. there I don't feel that and I think we

  721. mistake how passion

  722. operates I'll share a story at the risk

  723. of it sounding like I'm trying to gas

  724. myself up a little bit it's actually

  725. kind of funny but um there was a family

  726. uh that showed up a couple of weeks ago

  727. here and they stopped me as I was

  728. walking around the lobby and they said

  729. hey um we usually come to the 11:30 uh

  730. and we just we couldn't make it on this

  731. particular Sunday to the 11:30 and so we

  732. decided to come here for the 8:30

  733. Gathering we didn't know if God was even

  734. at the 8:30 but we showed up uh and so

  735. uh you know we had some plans and so we

  736. decided you know what let's just go

  737. early like we we love the church and so

  738. uh they were on their way here and they

  739. started gambling kind of in the car

  740. among themselves like do you think that

  741. he uh is as excited at the 8:30 as he is

  742. at the 11:30 or like how do you think

  743. that that works is that I don't know and

  744. so they ended up uh betting I guess and

  745. so welcome to church and and and what

  746. happened is um

  747. uh the father of this family said to me

  748. we were shocked at how excited and loud

  749. you are that early in the morning that

  750. is incredible he said it must just be

  751. your personality and I said uh uh well

  752. number one uh the first thing is that I

  753. had a preaching hero say to me preaching

  754. should be a lot of things boring is not

  755. one of

  756. them uh and then I said

  757. um it's not a personality thing I

  758. believe every single word that's in this

  759. book and and and that's not that's 's

  760. nothing special about me there let let

  761. me tell you this there are lots of days

  762. I sat with a worship leader a couple of

  763. uh months ago and they said you know

  764. what I just don't know that I like my

  765. heart hasn't been in the best place like

  766. I just don't know if I can step up there

  767. and let me just tell you not every week

  768. do you feel like you're in the best

  769. place some of y'all are like I don't

  770. want to be here right now you could be

  771. like some of these losers watching

  772. online right here but you're

  773. not you know what I mean

  774. we love you guys

  775. uh but you're missing the blessing and

  776. um wow that's not the notes and

  777. um you don't always feel it passion is

  778. not an emotion it's a

  779. choice if you wait till you're

  780. passionate you'll die doing nothing

  781. it's a

  782. choice there are days that I don't want

  783. to be up here that

  784. bad it's just real I don't know if

  785. you're supposed to say that but

  786. whatever there are days that you don't

  787. want to be

  788. here it's a

  789. choice I'm not here for

  790. me I'm here for you because I got to be

  791. here for you and I got to be around you

  792. because my faith sometimes isn't where

  793. it needs to be and I am going through

  794. I'm just like I don't know but I'm it's

  795. not about me I I'm I'm I'm here for

  796. him I think about what Paul says in

  797. Romans chapter 1 I long to see you I'm

    Romans 1 chapter mention

  798. here for you I long to see you it's

  799. bigger than me it's not an emotion it's

  800. a choice I know what you did for me you

  801. want to know what I bet you didn't

  802. really really love the idea of going to

  803. the cross

  804. but you chose to in fact we know that he

  805. didn't Lord if you will take this cup

  806. from

  807. me but I

  808. will you know still though I'm under no

  809. delusion there are some of us that are

  810. like I don't care if it's a choice I

  811. don't feel like I can choose it and I

  812. want you to know that is perfectly human

  813. perfectly real and we are so glad that

  814. you're here every person that has any

  815. kind of honesty in their body would say

  816. the same

  817. thing you just like it me I don't care

  818. if it's a choice I don't feel like I can

  819. make that choice I don't feel it right

  820. now you know it's it's interesting

  821. I I thought about passion in the

  822. scriptures and you know oftentimes

  823. there's moments

  824. um there's moments in the Old Testament

  825. um when you think about passion where

  826. someone will shout before the Lord

  827. right and a lot of times like everyone's

  828. kind of doing their thing and David's

  829. just out there kind of like doing the

  830. Snoopy Dance by himself and people are

  831. like what a lunatic and uh

  832. you see that there's this shouting

  833. before the Lord it's interesting the

  834. word shout in Hebrews the word

  835. ranan uh and and it's the word that's

  836. often used to describe that shouting

  837. before the Lord what's interesting is

  838. that it actually has various meanings it

  839. can mean to sing to shout to rejoice and

  840. to cry

  841. out

  842. ranan is used not just in passion so far

  843. as Joy is concerned but also passion so

  844. far as lamentation is

  845. concerned ranan is used as passionate

  846. praise Psalm 95:1 says let us shout

    Psalms 95:1

  847. joyfully to the Lord Psalm 98:4 says let

    Psalms 98:4

  848. the whole earth shout to him but it's

  849. also used as a passionate

  850. lament you see it in job 30:31 my flute

    Job 30:31

  851. is used for the Weeping you see that

  852. there's a root of the word ranan but

  853. it's actually lacking in its feature and

  854. so it's really saying that because ranan

  855. is absent it's actually runon in the

  856. other way around that it's a weeping

  857. there's a lament as a result I can't

  858. shout joyfully but I am crying out

  859. Lamentations chapter 2: 19 says arise

  860. and cry out in the

  861. night your passion is not something that

  862. is just on display when it's good it's

  863. not just ecstatic

  864. praise but it's broken lamentation as

  865. well devotion to the Lord and passion

  866. for

  867. him is found in Triumph and in

  868. Brokenness

  869. equally rejoicing in victories and

  870. crying out in Sorrows we see that even

  871. in Luke chapter 10 it says that Jesus

    Luke 10 chapter mention

  872. rejoiced in the Holy Spirit we see that

  873. in Luke chapter 22 that it will say that

    Luke 22 chapter mention

  874. in anguish he prayed more fervently that

  875. there's passion on display here ranan

  876. shouting for

  877. joy and shouting and the sense of crying

  878. out passion is true for the Victorious

  879. and the

  880. vexed it's passion and

  881. praise and it's lamenting and

  882. languishing I don't know where this

  883. happened

  884. um in church

  885. history but somewhere like holding back

  886. became normal

  887. I know I don't speak for everyone in

  888. here but I I Luke um came out of a

  889. stream and tribe of the faith

  890. where you raise your hand and it's like

  891. who let the Pentecostals in here you

  892. know uh you know it's more biblical to

  893. fall on your face in worship than it is

  894. to not do

  895. anything but I had people tell me in the

  896. name of order

  897. you should lack

  898. passion and the truth of the matter is

  899. that he's he's a lord of order but he's

  900. also a lord of

  901. passion and somewhere along the way we

  902. started to think that order is

  903. indifference and indifference is

  904. reverence there's a rule in studying

  905. scripture called The Law of first

  906. mention when you first see a word first

  907. see a situation there's something

  908. significant about it being there for the

  909. first time that helps you understand how

  910. it's utilized moving

  911. forward

  912. ranan is first used in Leviticus chapter

    Leviticus 9 chapter mention

  913. 9 and we see that it's the Priestly

  914. Ministry is being inaugurated that God

  915. is setting up a lineage of priests that

  916. are going to minister to him and to the

  917. people for the nation of

  918. Israel and so we see that those priests

  919. are going to inter seed they're going to

  920. pray for the people they're going to

  921. orchestrate festivals and help the

  922. people in praising their God they're

  923. going to help make sacrifices to atone

  924. for their own sins and for the sins of

  925. the

  926. people and so in Leviticus chapter 9 we

    Leviticus 9 chapter mention

  927. see that Moses calls forth his brother

  928. Aaron and then Aaron and his sons are

  929. being set forth as a lineage of priests

  930. that will be over the nation and we see

  931. the first thing that Aaron does is he

  932. makes a sacrifice on an altar to the

  933. Lord

  934. and it says in Leviticus 9: 24 fire came

  935. from the Lord and consumed the

  936. offering the people saw

  937. it shouted

  938. ranan and fell face

  939. down when the people

  940. saw that a sacrifice had been made and

  941. was good and acceptable to God they fell

  942. on their their face and

  943. worshiped I mean do we know that because

  944. of the resurrection of Jesus Christ we

  945. know that his sacrifice was more than

  946. good and sufficient so that you and I

  947. might be able to say hey the Lord

  948. accepts us because of what Christ has

  949. done for us how much more should we have

  950. passion for what he's done for

  951. us sometimes we look at the cross and

  952. we're like well let me calculate

  953. theologically just stop

  954. it this should move

  955. us move

  956. us and if you're not moved by this

  957. you've got to look all throughout the

  958. scriptures and go why is it that

  959. whenever

  960. God consumes sacrifice or does the

  961. people fall on their face and we're just

  962. like is there more coffee do you

  963. think passion is a choice

  964. voice and regardless of what's going on

  965. in your

  966. life we should be able to say nothing

  967. feels

  968. right but I'm going to be

  969. okay because of all that he's done for

  970. me my future is secure in Christ Jesus

  971. and far be it from me to say you know

  972. what I'm going to be flippant about what

  973. you've done for me but rather I will

  974. fall on my face and bow at the feet of

  975. my great king who gave it all to have

  976. all of me and so maybe you're here today

  977. and you've never put your faith in Jesus

  978. but let me just give you a gospel

  979. message in about 30 seconds you are a

  980. sinner in need of a

  981. savior you are headed to hell right now

  982. if you've never put your faith in Jesus

  983. I'm not trying to scare you I'm trying

  984. to tell you the truth but honesty feels

  985. like toxicity in a world that hates the

  986. truth that's where you're

  987. headed but there is a

  988. way to Salvation and eternal life an

  989. Abundant Life a joyful life in this very

  990. moment of putting your faith in Jesus

  991. repenting of your sins that we see that

  992. in Jesus Christ God gave it all to have

  993. all of us he lived the perfect life that

  994. you and I could not he died the death

  995. that you and I deserved upon the cross

  996. he willingly went to the cross and

  997. passionately endured that suffering

  998. spilling his own blood that for you and

  999. I who repent and put our faith in him we

1000. would know that his blood covers our

1001. sins past present and future he was

1002. buried in a tomb for three days he rose

1003. to life again and he's calling people

1004. right now to repent of their sins and

1005. put Faith in his name that you might be

1006. welcomed into the family and experience

1007. a guilt-free shame free Abundant Life In

  1008. The Name of

  1009. [Applause]

1010. Jesus and so if you would pray with me

1011. for a moment if you've never put your

1012. faith in Jesus but you want to accept

1013. him right now would you if if you want
