  1. it is great to see you and to be here

  2. with you all this morning I am so

  3. grateful that we are gathered together

  4. in this house and I'm grateful for a

  5. number of different reasons but one of

  6. the main ones is that uh we are finding

  7. ourselves continuing in this collection

  8. of conversations that we've been in over

  9. the course of the past several weeks

  10. that we have been calling the

  11. Renaissance and the Renaissance is a

  12. collection it's a discussion that is

  13. fixated and focused on the idea of

  14. Revival and revitalization that is

  15. happening not just within one individual

  16. but we believe that we're seeing that

  17. happening within a group of individuals

  18. or within our church in a really

  19. powerful way and so I've mentioned

  20. before that I've stolen this title from

  21. a period of time in human history where

  22. we saw revital and revitalization uh

  23. taking place that we saw that there were

  24. things happening in art in literature uh

  25. in science and even in the church that

  26. ended up shaping the culture of Europe

  27. between the 14th and the 16th centuries

  28. but more predominantly for us what we've

  29. also come to recognize is that the

  30. actual definition of a Renaissance is

  31. Revival or renewed interest in something

  32. and we believe that we are seeing

  33. Revival and renewed interest in what God

  34. is doing throughout the world in his

  35. church in a remarkable way and this is

  36. starting to hit every secular news

  37. source imaginable I even saw an article

  38. this week that said that the next

  39. generation is half as likely as their

  40. parents' generation to claim that they

  41. are atheists that we see that God is

  42. moving moving in a remarkable way and we

  43. believe specifically that we're seeing

  44. incredible things happening here in this

  45. place and so uh as we've been journeying

  46. through this collection I've mentioned

  47. multiple times that we are uh

  48. transitioning the church's name from

  49. LifeBridge Church to key Church

  50. officially on September the 7th and

  51. there's a lot of fun things that will

  52. coincide with that but what we wanted to

  53. make sure of is that we also take seven

  54. weeks to go through seven subsequent

  55. values that line with who it is that we

  56. Bel believe the Lord is leading us to

  57. become and so the first thing is that

  58. Jesus is our purpose yes Jesus is our

  59. purpose that belonging is our heart that

  60. stewardship is our responsibility that

  61. Excellence is our standard that passion

  62. is our posture and we have our second to

  63. last one here today before we get to my

  64. favorite one next week and the second to

  65. last one is this that bringing is our

  66. joy bringing is our joy I'm sure that

  67. you have heard uh multiple times

  68. whenever someone gets up here to do

  69. announcements which is your favorite

  70. part of us Gathering Together uh that we

  71. will mention uh giving and bringing

  72. interchangeably with one another and

  73. there's a reason for that we're not

  74. looking to be difficult we're looking to

  75. be biblical and so what we want to do

  76. today is look at 1 Chronicles CH 29:

  77. 10-22 that's where we're going to be

  78. first Chronicles 29: 10-22 as you're

  79. flipping or scrolling there let me uh

  80. say something something here a couple

  81. weeks ago we talked about how

  82. stewardship is our responsibility I

  83. mentioned multiple times but I still

  84. think the way that we associate

  85. stewardship with finances that it is

  86. imperative that I say to us here today

  87. that stewardship is not just about the

  88. way that you Steward your finances but

  89. it's the way that you Steward your life

  90. and so today we are finding ourselves

  91. not going back to a conversation that

  92. we've already had but rather we're going

  93. to have a conversation that we have not

  94. yet had that is a little bit more spefic

  95. specifically attached to money but it's

  96. not about money in and of itself and

  97. you're going to notice that as we allow

  98. the word to do the work here today and

  99. so 1 Chronicles 29: 10-22 y'all ready

  100. for the word we have a lot of scripture

  101. to get through today and so let's read

  102. it says this then David blessed the Lord

  103. in the sight of all the assembly and

  104. David said may you be blessed Lord God

  105. of our father Israel from eternity to

  106. Eternity yours Lord is the greatness and

  107. the power and the glory and the Splendor

  108. and the Majesty for everything in the

  109. heavens and on Earth belongs to you

  110. yours Lord is the kingdom and you are

  111. exalted as head over all riches and

  112. honor come from you and you are the

  113. ruler of everything power and might are

  114. in your hand and it is in your hand to

  115. make great and to give strength to all

  116. now therefore Our God we give you thanks

  117. and praise your glorious name but who am

  118. I and who are my people that we should

  119. be able to give as generously as this

  120. for everything comes from you and we we

  121. have given you only what comes from your

  122. own hand for we are aliens and temporary

  123. residents in your presence as were all

  124. our ancestors our days on Earth are like

  125. a shadow without hope Lord Our God all

  126. this wealth that we've provided for

  127. building you a house for your holy name

  128. comes from your hand everything belongs

  129. to you I know my God that you test the

  130. heart and that you are pleased with what

  131. is right I have willingly given all

  132. these things with an upright heart and

  133. now I have seen your people who are

  134. present here giving joyfully and

  135. willingly to you Lord God of Abraham

  136. Isaac and Israel our ancestors keep this

  137. desire forever in the thoughts of the

  138. hearts of your people and confirm their

  139. hearts toward you give my son Solomon an

  140. undivided heart to keep and to carry out

  141. all of your commands your decrees and

  142. your statutes and to build the building

  143. for which I have made provision then

  144. David said to the whole assembly blessed

  145. be the Lord your God so the whole

  146. assembly praised the Lord of their

  147. ancestors

  148. and they knelt low and paid homage to

  149. the Lord and the King following day they

  150. offered sacrifices to the Lord and burnt

  151. offerings to the Lord a thousand bowls a

  152. thousand Rams a thousand Lambs along

  153. with their drink offerings and

  154. sacrifices in abundance for all Israel

  155. they ate and drank with great joy in the

  156. Lord's presence that

  157. day Lord thank you that we have the

  158. opportunity to gather here and Lord

  159. sometimes we find ourselves uh

  160. navigating uh um a verse of scripture

  161. and pulling things together in a

  162. remarkable way that only your word can

  163. do like we did last week and then Lord

  164. sometimes we find ourselves uh engaging

  165. in long form Narrative of what it is

  166. that you've laid out for us in your word

  167. and every time it ends up doing

  168. something to us but there's something

  169. about spending time in your word Lord

  170. that just lifts anxieties and that ends

  171. up opening up the lid of our hearts to

  172. receive the truth of what have to say

  173. and so Lord today would we find

  174. ourselves with joy opening up your word

  175. and being fully prepared to hear

  176. whatever it is that you would have us

  177. here that we might live our lives in a

  178. way that is glorifying to your name and

  179. that your Renown would go all throughout

  180. the Earth that people might come to know

  181. you and rever you and love you as the

  182. Lord their God even if currently they do

  183. not do that Lord I ask today that we

  184. would just walk out of here looking just

  185. a little bit more like you Lord we love

  186. you we praise you and we thank you we

  187. ask these things in Jesus name

  188. amen well on December the 19th uh

  189. 1843 uh Charles Dickens ended up

  190. publishing a well-known and beloved

  191. novel that is still celebrated to this

  192. day called A Christmas Carol anybody in

  193. here big Christmas Carol people at least

  194. one person is a big Christmas Carol fan

  195. all right uh and the rest of you are

  196. Scrooge and so uh what we see though is

  197. that uh this is a story that is well

  198. known and beloved but what we also know

  199. is that the main character in the story

  200. is a man named Ebenezer Scrooge and he

  201. is a hard-hearted old Miser who finds

  202. himself in business with a partner named

  203. Jacob Marley now Ebenezer Scrooge

  204. becomes the sole owner of the business

  205. after Jacob Marley ends up tragically

  206. passing away and what we see is that

  207. Scrooge continues to be a miserable man

  208. who despises Christmas and mocks those

  209. who seek to help out those

  210. who are poor they even have an employee

  211. that Scrooge kind of has his thumb on

  212. and that he's poorly paid and that he's

  213. treated in unbelievably poor fashion and

  214. so we see that his dead business partner

  215. Jacob Marley his ghost will come and

  216. meet with Ebenezer Scrooge to warn him

  217. he receives this chilling visitation and

  218. this warning that is coming to him from

  219. the ghost of his dead partner and even

  220. Scrooge as he looks at the ghost of

  221. Jacob Marley recognizes that he's

  222. particularly Haggard and palad that he

  223. seems to be living out a punishment as a

  224. result of having been greedy and

  225. self-serving all throughout his life

  226. he's wandering to and fro throughout the

  227. Earth weighed down by these chains that

  228. he is carrying and now we see that Jacob

  229. Marley has come to warn his former

  230. business partner Ebenezer Scrooge that

  231. he too will suffer the same fate unless

  232. he changes his ways and he tells him you

  233. will be visited over the course of the

  234. next three nights by three Spirits or

  235. ghosts that will speak more to you how

  236. fun and so we see that Ebenezer Scrooge

  237. is first visited by the Ghost of

  238. Christmas Past and the Ghost of

  239. Christmas Past brings him through all of

  240. his childhood memories and as he finds

  241. himself navigating these memories he's

  242. like man at one point in my life I

  243. really did love Christmas I really did

  244. love this season and enjoy it he ends up

  245. being shown his childhood days even when

  246. he was in school and the crafts and the

  247. things that they would do and that he

  248. enjoyed that as well there seemed to be

  249. something different in him when he went

  250. back in his life but then it fast

  251. forward through his adolescence and into

  252. his young adulthood as he's becoming a

  253. man and he remembers that at one point

  254. he was engaged to a beautiful young

  255. woman named Bell but she ended up

  256. breaking off their engagement when she

  257. realized that his lust for money ended

  258. up superseding his love for other people

  259. and he shed real tears over his own

  260. avarest his failure to live a generous

  261. life and so he realizes that there is

  262. not only a generosity piece that's

  263. missing in his life but that generosity

  264. had him miss out on love that he has

  265. missed so badly throughout his life and

  266. so we see that the next night he'll be

  267. visited by the Ghost of Christmas

  268. present and the Ghost of Christmas

  269. present will find itself escorting him

  270. all throughout the town of London and as

  271. he's going through London Ebenezer

  272. Scrooge is noticing that people that are

  273. of significantly less financial means

  274. have significantly more joy during this

  275. Christmas season than he and he's

  276. confused by that and not only does he

  277. see this happening with a bunch of

  278. people that he doesn't know but what

  279. ends up happening is that he ends up

  280. running into to someone that he does

  281. know as he's able to look upon the

  282. family of Bob cratchet Bob cratchet his

  283. employee that he doesn't treat very well

  284. he notices that he's preparing this

  285. meager Christmas Feast for his family

  286. but they're still filled with all of

  287. this Joy he notices that Bob cratchet

  288. has a young son named Tiny Tim who's

  289. crippled and that he's still courageous

  290. and humble and kind that he is living

  291. his life in a way that looks more

  292. reflective of joy and generosity even

  293. given his circumstances then we see that

  294. Scrooge is himself and so he sheds real

  295. tears over the Brokenness that he feels

  296. at this reality and he notices then that

  297. before the Ghost of Christmas present

  298. leaves he is shown two starved children

  299. named ignorance and want and then he

  300. vanishes to be left the following night

  301. with the final ghost that will visit him

  302. the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come and

  303. when the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come

  304. visits him he escorts him into the

  305. future where there are these mysterious

  306. scenes and circumstances around an

  307. unnamed man's death and as he's hearing

  308. about this man he's confused it doesn't

  309. seem like anyone's mourned him or missed

  310. him he hears that there are these

  311. businessmen that are talking about how

  312. they're going to divvy up the assets of

  313. this man who has died because he didn't

  314. have anyone to leave anything to he

  315. notices that there's a couple that is

  316. relieved at the death of their

  317. unforgiving creditor who can no long

  318. seek to collect from them and he begs

  319. the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come who

  320. is this man I want to know who he is and

  321. so the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come

  322. come escorts him into a churchard a

  323. graveyard and points to a tombstone and

  324. as he looks at the tombstone he sees his

  325. own name and it says Ebenezer Scrooge he

  326. realizes that he's the dead man and he

  327. panics he he begs for some time to

  328. change his life he he's begging for a

  329. way to be able to make amends to make

  330. some kind of restitution I don't want my

  331. life to be like this even on my worst

  332. day I didn't intend for things to be

  333. like this please give me some time to

  334. change he renounces his insensitive and

  335. avaricious lifestyle and finds himself

  336. in a place where he is just begging for

  337. one more chance and so he wakes up the

  338. next morning on Christmas morning and

  339. making sure he's alive and he's filled

  340. with delight and gratitude that he is

  341. alive and well and he goes out and finds

  342. himself making amends for all of these

  343. things that he has missed out in his

  344. life that he is generous that he's

  345. giving to the community out of the joy

  346. in his heart that he's doing things that

  347. he had never done with all that he had

  348. been given in his life and as a result

  349. he goes from being the kudan to the man

  350. who all of a sudden is well-known and

  351. beloved and what's crazy is he only made

  352. one minor adjustment one minor

  353. adjustment but it ended up being a

  354. radical shift he came to recognize

  355. through all of these different

  356. visitations and through all of these

  357. kind of weird situations that he

  358. encountered that actually all of this

  359. wealth that he had been hoarding at one

  360. point he felt like it was his possession

  361. but a subtle shift ended up happening

  362. that helped him understand understand it

  363. is in my possession but it is not my

  364. possession it's been entrusted to me but

  365. I can joyfully give back in a way to

  366. where I can use my gifts talents and

  367. abilities to create wealth and I can

  368. actually use it for a purpose that is

  369. infinitely greater than anything that I

  370. had done before and so we see that he

  371. ends up making amends with the cratchet

  372. he ends up giving in a great way to the

  373. community and he establishes a new

  374. relationship with wealth where he

  375. realizes that giving is not lost but

  376. rather it's gaining a purpose for all

  377. that you've been gifted to do and I say

  378. that to you because what we see is that

  379. King David is demonstrating something

  380. remarkably similar to us here in this

  381. text now let me be perfectly clear about

  382. what we're talking about and what we're

  383. not talking about here today I have zero

  384. intention of talking to you about your

  385. financial stewardship today I have no

  386. problem stamping on your Idols at all

  387. but I'm not here to talk about financial

  388. stewardship today we do that twice a

  389. year in a collection called two infinity

  390. and beyond and that's in November so we

  391. have a while I have no intention I'm not

  392. going to tell you the date so that you

  393. skip but I will tell you uh I have no

  394. intention of talking about financial

  395. stewardship today genuinely and some of

  396. you think I'm being disingenuous because

  397. you're like well uh the text and the

  398. illustration seems like it it does talk

  399. about that but here's the truth of the

  400. matter I'm not interested in talking to

  401. you about what to give or how to give

  402. but but more talking about why it is

  403. that we do and who it is that we give to

  404. and and the truth of the matter is I'm

  405. not going to talk to you about money

  406. itself but the mentality around it and

  407. the way that we feel like the Lord has

  408. led us to be a people of generosity and

  409. and so uh you're looking at me like I

  410. don't believe you it feels like this is

  411. like a a preacher thing and it's not

  412. we'll let the word do the work and

  413. you'll see it here as we unpack it in

  414. its totality right great and so what you

  415. see is that in 1 Chronicles 29: 10-22 it

  416. opened up and you have no idea what's

  417. going on right uh we we jumped into that

  418. thing and it's like I have legitimately

  419. no clue what's going on here uh it

  420. started with the word then which means

  421. that there's some context that we're

  422. missing and so here is a preacher thing

  423. I did to you I duped you and we're going

  424. to go through the entire chapter

  425. together but if I read one through 22

  426. some of you would get up and leave so I

  427. just did 10 through 22 so now you're

  428. getting more Bible congratulations if

  429. you leave that's a problem so um you

  430. won't be welcome back I'm

  431. kidding right and so uh what we see here

  432. is that we need to go back to verses 1 9

  433. in order to make sense of what it is

  434. that's actually being said here and

  435. what's interesting is that King David

  436. has reached a rather interesting time in

  437. his life he's reached a new age and

  438. stage of his life uh where things are

  439. getting weird uh he he's slowing down a

  440. little bit in what he used to be able to

  441. do he's been on the throne of Israel for

  442. 40 years he's 70 years of age and he's

  443. in a position now to where he is about

  444. to see his son Solomon end up ascending

  445. the throne because he's in line for

  446. kingship and what we see though is that

  447. all throughout David's life he has been

  448. a man that has wanted to build a house a

  449. temple for the Lord and yet what we see

  450. is that David finds himself in this

  451. place repeatedly because he feels bad

  452. about the fact that he lives in this

  453. lavish Palace and yet the Ark of the

  454. Covenant is in a tent somewhere he wants

  455. to bring them back to the way that

  456. things were with their ancestors a

  457. beautiful portable Tabernacle had been

  458. escorting the Ark of the Covenant

  459. through the Wilderness and through their

  460. journeying it was ornate it was

  461. intricate it was the best of the best

  462. that there could be that housed the Ark

  463. of the Covenant where God would dwell

  464. among the people but that's no longer

  465. the case he has sought to build a house

  466. and yet the Lord would not allow him to

  467. in 1 Chronicles 17:4 the Lord says you

    1 Chronicles 17:4

  468. are not the one to build me a house to

  469. dwell in and so you go to 1 Chronicles

    1 Chronicles 22:8

  470. 22:8 and the Lord would say a little bit

  471. more specifically because you have shed

  472. much blood and waged great Wars he said

  473. said in verse 10 your son is the one who

  474. will build a house for my name and so

  475. you look at verse one and it says that

  476. King David said to all the assembly

  477. which is really the leaders in the

  478. nation of Israel it says King David said

  479. to all the assembly my son Solomon God

  480. has chosen him alone is Young and

  481. inexperienced the task is great because

  482. the building will not be built for a

  483. human but for the Lord God now that's

  484. interesting that you see that there is

  485. this young guy that's about to take on a

  486. POS position that people tend to think

  487. should be reserved for people that are

  488. older and people think he might be young

  489. and inexperienced and can he do it well

  490. can't relate but I would imagine there's

  491. some complications that come with that

  492. and so uh what we see here I don't know

  493. why that's funny I'm in my 50s but what

  494. we see

  495. here is you notice King David's crowning

  496. him he says you're up this you bro he

  497. he's giving him not only the crown he's

  498. saying this is the scepter to lead the

  499. nation of Israel you are up this is your

  500. job now and he says most importantly

  501. you're being entrusted with building the

  502. house of God what you see is that after

  503. Solomon's Reign for all of the things

  504. that Solomon does being the richest dude

  505. in the world like ends up seeing all

  506. these different queens and doing all

  507. these different things and has too many

  508. children with too many people you see

  509. that all of these things happen over the

  510. course of his time but what ends up

  511. happening and being his crowning

  512. achievement as king is that he actually

  513. builds the temple for the Lord God God

  514. and so what we see is that it's

  515. remarkable because David's giving him

  516. this responsibility and he's

  517. 20 and some Jewish Scholars say no no no

  518. he's not 20 he's between 12 and 14 years

  519. old and I say who cares 12 to 20 can we

  520. agree is is is a relatively young age to

  521. become king of a Nation

  522. right I think we all would be like

  523. that's interesting right and so what we

  524. see though is that David says I I didn't

  525. I didn't pick him

  526. did you notice that I didn't I didn't

  527. choose

  528. him David says something interesting

  529. about Solomon becoming the king he says

  530. God has chosen him alone that's a weird

  531. choice to pick Solomon it's a super

  532. weird choice to be the one who's going

  533. to ascend the throne and you say why and

  534. I say great question for this reason

  535. because it's weird that he's not the

  536. oldest male that was born to David he's

  537. not even not the oldest male that was

  538. born to David but rather what's

  539. interesting is that he's the son of bath

  540. Sheba and so it's like David is saying

  541. to the nation hey guys the son of my

  542. greatest sin is going to ascend the

  543. throne how do we feel about that we feel

  544. good about that uh you guys remember my

  545. sexual sin and my abusive power and my

  546. super terrible weakness you remember

  547. that remember when I put her husband on

  548. the front lines hoping he died he did

  549. and so guess what I ended up taking her

  550. for me y'all remember that our son is

  551. going to be king is't that great is't

  552. that great guys and people are probably

  553. like I don't know like I don't I don't

  554. think

  555. so what's important about that it's

  556. important for this

  557. reason God doesn't need human approval

  558. to pick someone to fulfill his

  559. assignments God loves to pick the things

  560. that don't make sense to us to shame

  561. those who think that they're wise and he

  562. says you're up this is the one that God

  563. has chosen and what's interesting is as

  564. you keep moving through this text you'll

  565. notice that it continually ends up

  566. showing us though that there's

  567. remarkable Unity here it says in verses

  568. 1 and two my son Solomon God chose him

  569. alone is Young and inexperienced the

  570. task is great because the building will

  571. not be built for human but for the Lord

  572. God watch

  573. this so to the best of my

  574. ability I've made

  575. provision do like to the best of my

  576. ability

  577. I've made provision for the house of my

  578. god do you notice the generational

  579. operational Unity that's happening in

  580. this

  581. moment that we see King David is saying

  582. hey King Solomon is up next but you got

  583. to know that we have got to work

  584. together to see the lord's name and

  585. Renown go throughout the earth I think

  586. one of the biggest lies that's killing

  587. Kingdom mission is you see constantly

  588. Generations Waring with one another

  589. rather than running together it doesn't

  590. make sense to me like like do you notice

  591. that you see David is saying I'm going

  592. to bring a couple things to the table

  593. here and I need you to bring some things

  594. too and what does he say I'm going to

  595. bring resource and wisdom I'm going to

  596. bring money and I'm GNA pay your dumb

  597. tax I am going to help you avoid

  598. pitfalls that you have fallen in and I'm

  599. going to give you the resources that you

  600. don't have yourself can I get a witness

  601. parents do you know what I'm talking

  602. talking about but what we see here is

  603. that he insinuating as well but son you

  604. got to bring something too you better

  605. bring energy and effort you better get

  606. out of mom's basement you better do

  607. something someone in here Testify the

  608. greatest act of God in your life was not

  609. that he split the Red Sea for you it's

  610. that your kid got a job and so you are

  611. thrilled by

  612. this he says stop being a millennial man

  613. like let's go I'm gonna pave the road

  614. will you just drive the car I gave you

  615. down it that's what I need from

  616. you and Solomon's like I guess so and

  617. he's like don't give up when it hurts

  618. like just do

  619. it there's operational Unity here I did

  620. say this the other day to someone it is

  621. fascinating to me that in churches worse

  622. than anywhere else we will give to the

  623. things where we feel like they are

  624. ministering to our

  625. children we will give to the things

  626. where we feel like oh that coach is poor

  627. bring in our kid and that that soccer

  628. team really changed their life and do

  629. they need help they need someone to

  630. volunteer do they need money they need

  631. any of those things but for whatever in

  632. churches we're like why isn't it about

  633. me what we see is David says no no

  634. no there's something that God's doing

  635. here and it threads through multiple

  636. Generations we are committed to planting

  637. trees we will never sit under the shade

  638. of and so we see here that it says to

  639. the best of my ability I've made

  640. provision for the house of my God gold

  641. for the gold AR article silver for the

  642. silver bronze for the bronze iron for

  643. the iron wood for the wood as well as

  644. onx stones for mounting antimony stones

  645. of various colors all kind of precious

  646. stones and a great quantity of marble

  647. moreover because of my delight in the

  648. house of my God I now give my personal

  649. Treasures of gold and silver for the

  650. house of my God over and above all that

  651. I have provided for the holy house he

  652. says I've delighted in the house of God

  653. I'm going to donate to it he says I have

  654. found myself in the presence of the Lord

  655. my God there is nothing too personal

  656. that could be asked of me to give back

  657. to him and so we see that he keeps going

  658. and it gets kind of funny because nobody

  659. says hey David what are you going to

  660. give David's just like let me tell you

  661. what I'm going to give he says 100 tons

  662. of gold 250 tons of refined silver for

  663. the overlaying of the walls of the

  664. buildings gold for the gold work silver

  665. for the silver for all the work to be

  666. done by the Craftsman now who will

  667. volunteer to consecrate himself to the

  668. Lord today I love this David's like I'm

  669. going to give something and he's like

  670. and let me he's not we'll see that as we

  671. continue rather What's Happening Here is

  672. David understands something back then

  673. that's still true today that to be

  674. generous is contagious it's

  675. contagious but he does something

  676. interesting and are willing to

  677. consecrate themselves to the Lord that's

  678. interesting he he does something where

  679. he talks about donation but he puts it

  680. on the same line as consecration he says

  681. that you're going to make a contribution

  682. but your word literally means to incite

  683. or impel out a devotion it's an action

  684. that is moved because of love and

  685. devotion he he's saying to the people

  686. I'm going to go first and he says I want

  687. you to know that as I go first that I'm

  688. doing so with the correct motivation

  689. that my motivation behind this

  690. contributions my devotion to the Lord

  691. that I've been in his presence I've

  692. delighted in his house that this is the

  693. reason that I'm giving all I can to him

  694. and so we see moving on from there that

  695. now he says but now we need to

  696. consecrate

  697. ourselves which is what you would do for

  698. ordination into the priesthood like

  699. that's that's an interesting thing to

  700. say there but it really just means that

  701. you live open-handed with your hands

  702. lifted to the father rather than living

  703. with closed fists that's what he's

  704. advocating for but he's demonstrating it

  705. first and you see in verse six that it

  706. starts to get contagious among the

  707. people then the leaders of the

  708. households and the leaders of the tribes

  709. of Israel the commanders of thousands

  710. and of hundreds and the officials in

  711. charge of the king's work gave willingly

  712. it says for the service of God's house

  713. they gave 185 tons of gold 10,000 gold

  714. coins 375 tons of silver 675 tons of

  715. bronze 4,000 tons of iron whoever had

  716. precious stones gave them to the

  717. treasury of the Lord's House under the

  718. care of Jil the ganite and the people

  719. rejoiced because of their leader

  720. willingness to give for they had given

  721. to the Lord wholeheartedly not out of

  722. compulsion but out of devotion anything

  723. that is given that is going to rob you

  724. of the joy of giving it's not worth

  725. giving is it something that you can do

  726. willingly and joyfully says they gave

  727. with their whole heart there's nothing

  728. held back and David is going to do

  729. something interesting he's going to go

  730. first but then what we see is he's going

  731. to help them realize that we're doing

  732. this because we have to remember who God

  733. is it says in verse 10 then David

  734. blessed the Lord in the sight of all the

  735. assembly and David said may you be

  736. blessed Lord God of our father Israel

  737. from eternity to Eternity I I think we

  738. all have an understanding of what it

  739. looks like when God blesses us at least

  740. we have a hope associated with what it

  741. looks like when God blesses us but what

  742. does it mean to bless God uh it's

  743. interesting that you see that term

  744. primarily in the Old Testament in a

  745. remarkable amount throughout the Psalms

  746. but what we see is that it really just

  747. means to praise the Lord which is a

  748. little bit more familiar with us in

  749. Hebrew the word to bless or to praise it

  750. simply means to kneel and what's implied

  751. there is that you're doing so as an act

  752. of worship and so we see here that King

  753. David is going to provide and then it's

  754. contagious and the people start to

  755. provide and what you'll notice here is

  756. that he's saying that this is something

  757. that we do first and foremost because we

  758. remember who God God is do you notice

  759. how he launches into like what one of

  760. the greatest prayers in all of scripture

  761. I don't know what your prayers look like

  762. this is not reflect mine all the time it

  763. says yours Lord is the greatness and the

  764. power and the glory and the Splendor and

  765. the Majesty everything in the heavens

  766. and on Earth belongs to you yours Lord

  767. is the kingdom you're exalted as head

  768. over all riches and honor come from you

  769. you're the ruler of everything power and

  770. might are in your hand to make great and

  771. give strength to all now therefore our

  772. God we give you thanks and praise your

  773. glorious name he says hey we're going to

  774. give we're going to bring this back to

  775. God but then they break out in a prayer

  776. Gathering there there's a

  777. celebration he he says I'm not just

  778. doing this this isn't just like a

  779. spiritual uh thing that you're just kind

  780. of like I don't know it's just no this

  781. transforms you when you remember who he

  782. is and what he's given David says you

  783. need to remember who God is

  784. I I found that I give most joyfully when

  785. I find myself reflecting on the

  786. generosity of the

  787. giver and I think generous giving

  788. results in generous praise yours

  789. Lord is the kingdom and the power and

  790. the majesty and the Splendor and the

  791. honor and the glory and everything is

  792. yours that it all comes from your own

  793. hand like all all of this belongs to you

  794. you see that he extols who God is and

  795. then people want to get engaged in in

  796. what it is that God does he says you

  797. need to remember who God is it'll help

  798. you recall all that he's done and then

  799. you will rejoice with generosity he says

  800. not only that you remember who God is

  801. you got to remember what God

  802. gives he says in verse 14 so who am I

  803. and who are my people that we should be

  804. able to give as generously as this for

  805. everything comes from you we have given

  806. you only what comes from your hand

  807. who am I and who are

  808. we I actually don't own

  809. anything I'm just bringing back to you

  810. what you already gave to

  811. me we're aliens and temporary residents

  812. in your presence as we're all our

  813. ancestors our days on Earth are like a

  814. shadow without hope Lord Our God all

  815. this wealth that we have provided for

  816. building you a house for your holy name

  817. comes from your hand everything belongs

  818. to you I know my God that you test the

  819. heart and that you're pleased with what

  820. is right I have willingly given all

  821. these things with an upright heart and

  822. now I have seen your people who are

  823. present here giving joyfully and

  824. willingly to you he says it's all from

  825. you and I know that you're going to test

  826. us but we're going to give back to you

  827. because it's not something we owned in

  828. the first place and he says Lord God of

  829. Abraham Isaac and Israel our

  830. ancesters listen to this keep this

  831. desire forever in the thoughts in the

  832. hearts of your people and confirm their

  833. hearts toward you give my son Solomon an

  834. undivided heart to keep and carry out

  835. all your Commandments decrees and

  836. statutes and build the building for

  837. which I have made provision he says

  838. would would the thoughts in the hearts

  839. of your people be generous

  840. forever and will our leaders be faithful

  841. to

  842. you remember who God is remember what

  843. God gives and then remember when God

  844. provides David said to the entire

  845. assembly blessed be the Lord your God so

  846. the whole assembly praised the Lord God

  847. of their ancestors and they knelt low

  848. and paid homage to the Lord and the

  849. King you notice I love that it says here

  850. praise the Lord God of their

  851. ancestors you ever just spent time with

  852. someone who's just been following the

  853. Lord longer than

  854. you and you just listen to them tell

  855. stories I see Ed over here Ed and I got

  856. lunch the other day and I was just like

  857. just just just tell me tell me all that

  858. God has done in your life Ju Just tell

  859. me what does that look

  860. like he just told these stories of

  861. everything that God has

  862. done something bubbles up within you

  863. when you

  864. realize God's been with

  865. them God is with with us he's going to

  866. be with them

  867. too King David is ending an era and

  868. ushering in an area if you keep reading

  869. the chapter King David

  870. dies spoiler

  871. alert and he's ending an era and he's

  872. ushering in an era and what I love is

  873. he's he he's not

  874. panicked he's not doing this out of fear

  875. concerned like what are we going to do

  876. they they dress funny and I don't

  877. understand what they're saying he's just

  878. like no like

  879. like God's been with people before

  880. me he's going to be with his people that

  881. are here now and he'll continue to be

  882. with his people long after

  883. me and so we'll bring back to you you've

  884. never failed

  885. us the following day they offered

  886. sacrifices to the Lord burnt offerings

  887. to the Lord

  888. a thousand bowls Rams and Lambs along

  889. with their drink offerings and

  890. sacrifices in abundance for all Israel

  891. and they ate and drank water Baptists

  892. with great joy in the Lord's presence

  893. that

  894. [Music]

  895. day do you realize that in Jesus

  896. Christ God has

  897. revealed who he

  898. is what he

  899. gives and when he provides

  900. who he is gentle and lowly in heart kind

  901. and compassionate Fierce and

  902. loving what he gives

  903. salvation peace Comfort

  904. assurance and when does he provide

  905. always at no

  906. point is there lack from

  907. him to bestow upon his people

  908. people and it's like we sang earlier if

  909. you don't do anything else for me you've

  910. done more than enough but it's out of

  911. his kindness and Grace that you can sing

  912. that knowing but he

  913. will because he loves his

  914. kids I love Hebrews 12 veres 1 and two

  915. it says let us run with endurance the

  916. race that lies before us keeping our

  917. eyes on Jesus the Pioneer and perfector

  918. of our faith for the

  919. joy that lay before him he endured the

  920. cross despising the shame and sat down

  921. at the right hand of the Throne of God

  922. if Jesus Christ could look through the

  923. cross with joy how much more should we

  924. able to bring whatever it is that God

  925. would ask of us back to him and say

  926. you've given it all to have all of me

  927. you own it all anyway there is nothing

  928. that I will withhold from you you are

  929. Christ my king father thank

  930. you that we are here and

  931. [Music]

  932. that we're a people

  933. that understand what it's like to

  934. experience the gift of knowing Jesus

  935. Christ as our Lord and savior to know

  936. what it is that he brought us salvation

  937. in His Name Lord let us be a

  938. people that reflect what it is that we

  939. have read and begin to digest in your

  940. word today that says we would give whole

  941. heart ly but with

  942. [Music]

  943. joy Lord that we would be a people that

  944. are not looking

  945. at numbers but we're we're looking

  946. at being people that bear more

  947. fruit and that we would demonstrate joy

  948. in all that we do but that we would do

  949. that in the way that we bring back to

  950. you maybe most especially because of the

  951. way that you've given to us Lord we love

  952. you you we praise you and we thank you

  953. we ask this in Jesus name amen

  954. [Music]
