  1. Man, anybody grateful for Good Friday

  2. tonight? Come

  3. on. Anybody grateful for Jesus tonight?

  4. Man, I feel like I'm interrupting

  5. something, honestly. But uh so let's

  6. let's get through this together. Y'all

  7. take a seat. Hey, welcome to Lifebridge

  8. Church, everybody. If you uh haven't

  9. been here before or you and I haven't

  10. had the chance to meet yet, my name is

  11. Luke Lison and I get the opportunity to

  12. serve you as one of our pastors here and

  13. we are so grateful to be gathered

  14. together in this house tonight and that

  15. worship is genuine and true. It is not

  16. show and fun. We believe that Jesus

  17. Christ has done something significant on

  18. our behalf and that's what we're here to

  19. celebrate this evening. And you know we

  20. are here really for that in celebration

  21. and recognition of a moment that is both

  22. pivotal and critical in our faith. This

  23. is an unbelievably significant night in

  24. the life of our faith. A night where on

  25. this side of the cross we find ourselves

  26. filled with devastation. Knowing that it

  27. is us that put Jesus Christ on the cross

  28. as a result of our sins and yet

  29. anticipation for what's to come. knowing

  30. that Sunday is on the way. And so we are

  31. here tonight to celebrate a man who is

  32. crucified on a Roman cross like a common

  33. criminal. Good is how we described this.

  34. Good is how we have described this

  35. Friday for millennia. And I think

  36. regardless of where you stand in your

  37. faith or how long you have known Christ

  38. as your Lord and Savior, I think

  39. everybody in here, if you've just got a

  40. shred of honesty in you can admit to

  41. call this day good is

  42. odd. Like to think about this like a man

  43. being crucified and celebrating that

  44. that's an odd thing to say. That's good.

  45. That's a that's a good thing. I mean,

  46. you look at all of the things that we're

  47. talking about here. Like, if you're on

  48. the outside looking in at what it is

  49. that we're doing tonight and how it is

  50. that we're celebrating, you would not be

  51. able to refute someone just on the

  52. surface saying it's a bizarre thing to

  53. celebrate crucifixion and act like

  54. that's normal. Uh like to say that it's

  55. good that someone is beaten, mocked,

  56. scorned, spat on. That is a bizarre

  57. thing to say, "Hey, we love that. That's

  58. a good thing that you feel like being a

  59. believer on the outside, you must think,

  60. hey, you got to be borderline

  61. masochistic to be in on this thing. Good

  62. is how you describe a lot of different

  63. things in life. Good is how you describe

  64. food. It's how you describe friendship

  65. in ideal circumstances. It's how you

  66. describe marriage. Uh I it's how you

  67. describe mournings that have relative

  68. peace attached to them. Right? You do

  69. not describe men being crucified as

  70. good. You don't do that. That's weird.

  71. And yet, while we know that that's

  72. understandable, I think we just have to

  73. acknowledge that there's a lot of

  74. different people that occupy the room

  75. and that are watching online right now,

  76. there are those of us that have

  77. surrendered our life to Jesus Christ.

  78. And we've heard this message a million

  79. times. And if that's you, you know that

  80. there is no amount of times where you

  81. can be like, "And I think I'm good."

  82. that this is something that we need to

  83. hear every single day and it never gets

  84. old. Uh but then there are some of us

  85. that are in here as well. And quite

  86. honestly, uh you're someone who's heard

  87. this story of the crucifixion many

  88. times, but you have not yet come to put

  89. your faith in Jesus Christ. Or really,

  90. honestly, if you're in here, you have

  91. before, but you really haven't

  92. surrendered to him as your Lord and

  93. Savior. Because honestly, you're you're

  94. kind of living with one foot in whatever

  95. I want to do and one foot in I guess I

  96. kind of need to do whatever it is that

  97. he's telling me to do. But then there's

  98. some of you where honestly you have not

  99. heard this in detail and at length and

  100. on a timeline to where it makes sense

  101. and you haven't put your faith in the

  102. Lord Jesus Christ either. Here's what I

  103. want you to know. Regardless of where

  104. you stand as you run the gamut of

  105. possibilities of where you could stand

  106. in relationship or out of relationship

  107. with Jesus Christ, when we step out of

  108. this place together here tonight, we

  109. will have a much better understanding as

  110. to why it is that we call this Friday

  111. good. primarily from this angle that we

  112. are here to recognize the fact that we

  113. are not just celebrating that a man is

  114. being crucified but rather we are also

  115. celebrating that the crucifixion of this

  116. man Jesus Christ is simultaneously the

  117. coronation of the king of kings and so

  118. what I want to do is look at Matthew 27

    Matthew 27:27–31

  119. verse 27 through31 that's where we're

  120. going to be we're going to continue on

  121. from there for a moment uh as we

  122. continue moving moving through this

  123. passage, what I want you to know is that

  124. if it's your first time here, we're big

  125. Bible people, okay? Uh like like

  126. unashamed of what it is that people are

  127. saying out in the fringes of social

  128. media and all the other things that are

  129. just toxic spaces and algorithms that

  130. are reminding you that you're right when

  131. you're wrong. And so we believe that

  132. this is the words of life. We believe

  133. that the truth is laid out for us in

  134. here. That every page points to Jesus

  135. Christ in some way, shape, or form. that

  136. it is inspired by the Holy Spirit. And

  137. so, as the rest of the world is

  138. bickering and trying to figure out

  139. what's wrong with everybody, we are here

  140. to say we know that we've got some flaws

  141. in us and sin that needs to be dealt

  142. with. And this book will confront it

  143. wholeheartedly. Amen. And so, we are

  144. going to be in God's word tonight or we

  145. have no reason to gather. And so, we're

  146. going to be in Matthew 27, beginning in

  147. verse 27. Y'all ready for the word? It

  148. says this. Then the governor's soldiers

  149. took Jesus into the governor's residence

  150. and gathered the whole company around

  151. him. They stripped him and dressed him

  152. in a scarlet robe. They twisted together

  153. a crown of thorns, put it on his head,

  154. and placed a staff in his right hand.

  155. And they knelt down before him and

  156. mocked him. Hail, King of the Jews. Then

  157. they spat on him, took the staff, and

  158. kept hitting him on the head. And after

  159. they had mocked him, they stripped him

  160. of the robe, put his own clothes on him,

  161. and led him away to crucify him. Will

  162. you pray with me?

  163. And Lord, there's there's no amount of

  164. conversation or unpacking that we

  165. could engage in here tonight that would

  166. suffice as as mining the depths of what

  167. this moment means, not just for us here

  168. in this moment, but really all

  169. throughout human history, what it means

  170. for the world. And and so Lord, as we

  171. gather with a short amount of time to

  172. celebrate what it is that you've done on

  173. our behalf, I pray that it won't land on

  174. us lightly. That yes, we're on this side

  175. of the cross, but yes, it is also true

  176. that we find ourselves here recognizing

  177. that the Lord had to go to the cross as

  178. a result of our own sinfulness. And so,

  179. thank you, Jesus, tonight for your

  180. sacrifice. Would we step out of this

  181. place with even deeper gratitude than we

  182. may be stepped in with? Lord, we love

  183. you. We praise you and we thank you. We

  184. ask these things in Jesus name.

  185. Amen. You really got to ask yourself,

  186. how do we arrive here when you read a

  187. passage that is uh as kind of scandalous

  188. as the one that we just read? Like like

  189. what happens to lead us up to a group of

  190. soldiers doing this to another man? And

  191. if you would just for a moment indulge

  192. me here. I I want to go back five days

  193. ago. Five days ago, what we see is that

  194. Jesus Christ is riding into Jerusalem on

  195. a donkey, on the f of a donkey, which is

  196. significant because hundreds of years

  197. before that, the prophet Zechariah had

  198. said in Zechariah 9:9 that the King of

    Zechariah 9:9

  199. Kings would ride in, that the Messiah

  200. would ride into the city of Jerusalem on

  201. a donkey, on the full of a donkey, which

  202. is significant because typically in that

  203. time in in the ancient near east,

  204. whenever kings would ride into cities,

  205. they would do so on a horse. and they

  206. would either ride into a city with the

  207. intention of conquering it or they would

  208. ride back into their own city to signify

  209. that they had conquered and they would

  210. do that on a horse symbolizing power.

  211. But here we see that Jesus Christ is

  212. riding into the city of Jerusalem how on

  213. a donkey which is significant because

  214. rather than riding a horse that

  215. signifies power he's riding upon a

  216. donkey which is symbolic of peace that

  217. we see that Jesus Christ is riding into

  218. Jerusalem and he intends to conquer but

  219. he's going to do so in a peaceful manner

  220. that he might bring peace between us

  221. between God and man by standing in our

  222. place as a sacrifice on our behalf. He

  223. rides in on this day where the people

  224. are shouting hosana. And then just a few

  225. days later, we see that they're going to

  226. be shouting and chanting crucify him.

  227. And as you fast forward in time and go

  228. through Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday,

  229. you get to Thursday night last night.

  230. Jesus is arrested and betrayed in the

  231. Garden of Gethsemane, which is

  232. significant for this reason. Gethsemane

  233. is a Hebrew word that's a combination of

  234. two Hebrew words. Gat meaning oil and

  235. shem meaning press. Gethsemane literally

  236. means oil press. And so traditionally

  237. whenever a king was about to ascend the

  238. throne in the ancient near east and in

  239. Israel in particular, you see that

  240. olives would be crushed in order to get

  241. oil and you would anoint that king with

  242. oil to signify that God was with them

  243. that they had favor that the spirit of

  244. God was with them before they ascended

  245. the throne. And here we see that there

  246. is a reversal of things going on in this

  247. moment. Rather than having oil poured

  248. out to anoint the king after crushing

  249. olives, we see that the king himself is

  250. being crushed under the weight of our

  251. iniquities and sins. And we see that

  252. rather than having oil pour out, blood

  253. and grace are starting to pour out of

  254. the King of Glory as he's beginning his

  255. suffering process. And as you see the

  256. morning start to turn and it's Friday

  257. morning. He's arrested and betrayed. One

  258. of the 12, Judas, will come and betray

  259. the son of man with a kiss in one of the

  260. most dramatic turns of events in human

  261. history. And what you see is that Jesus

  262. is then led away with this mob with

  263. clubs and swords. And you see that they

  264. will take him to the former high priest

  265. home, Annis. And then you see that he

  266. will be escorted to Caiaphas, the

  267. current high priest's home. And you see

  268. that as they bring him into kind of an

  269. open courtyard area that there's going

  270. to be a false trial that he will endure

  271. that all of a sudden you see that the

  272. Sanhedrin gathers all of these uh

  273. political officials of the day are

  274. heaping all of these different claims on

  275. Jesus saying that he broke the law in

  276. this way that he blasphemed in that way

  277. but none of the things are holding water

  278. none of the things are holding weight

  279. even Caiaphas recognizes that some of

  280. the things that are being lobbied

  281. against Jesus they're not really

  282. anything that Is that meaningful and

  283. worthy of condemning him to die upon a

  284. cross? And so, Caiaphas ends up asking

  285. Jesus a question point blank that is

  286. pivotal for us to understand that Jesus

  287. Christ does in fact make a God claim in

  288. the scripture. He just says, "Hey, let's

  289. just get this out of the way." Like,

  290. "Are you the Messiah? Are you the son of

  291. God? Tell us if you are." And after

  292. Jesus has been silent through all of

  293. these accusations, Jesus looks up at

  294. Caiaphas and says to him, "You have said

  295. it." which is just a clever way of

  296. saying you're exactly right and from now

  297. on you will see the son of man seated at

  298. the right hand of power and coming on

  299. the clouds of heaven and Caiaphas and

  300. those in the Sanhedrin rip their robes

  301. and condemn Jesus as a blasphemer and

  302. want to condemn him to death but they

  303. can't under Roman jurisdiction and so

  304. they bring him to Pontius Pilate and

  305. when they bring him to Pontius Pilate he

  306. feels like the charges are out of whack

  307. it doesn't make any sense why you would

  308. want to kill this guy and so Pilate

  309. brings Jesus in for questioning and says

  310. to him, "Are you the king of the Jews?

  311. Are the things that they're saying about

  312. you true?" And Jesus says, "I am a king,

  313. but my kingdom is not of this world."

  314. And so he gets sent to King Herod

  315. because Jesus is also from Galilee. And

  316. Herod rules in that particular province.

  317. And so King Herod gets his eyes on Jesus

  318. after being curious about what he's

  319. like, hearing about the miracles that

  320. he's done and all of the things that

  321. have happened. And as King Herod sees

  322. him, Jesus just stands silent before

  323. him. He doesn't say anything. So Herod

  324. sends him back to Pilate and the riots

  325. are starting to rise. People are losing

  326. their minds whether they want him killed

  327. or whether they don't want him killed.

  328. We see that all of a sudden people are

  329. at odds with one another. And so Pilate

  330. ends up saying in order to appease the

  331. people I will have him flogged, which is

  332. terrible in and of itself. But then

  333. he'll wash his hands and surrender him

  334. over to the will of the people. And

  335. that's where we pick things up. Jesus

  336. Christ has just been flogged and is now

  337. surrounded by these individuals that are

  338. going to mercilessly mock him for the

  339. text that we just read here. And I want

  340. to read it together again because I want

  341. you to see that while we often will talk

  342. about this being the crucifixion of

  343. Jesus and it is, there is also something

  344. significant that happens leading up to

  345. the crucifixion. And it is the literal

  346. coronation of the king of glory laid out

  347. for us right there in five acts in

  348. scripture. Notice what it said again as

  349. we go back to the word. It says, "Then

  350. the governor's soldiers took Jesus into

  351. the governor's residence and gathered

  352. the whole company around him. They

  353. stripped him and dressed him in a

  354. scarlet robe. They twisted together a

  355. crown of thorns and put it on his head

  356. and placed a staff in his right hand.

  357. They knelt down before him and mocked

  358. him, saying, "Hail, King of the Jews."

  359. They spat on him and took the staff and

  360. kept hitting him on the head. And after

  361. they had mocked him, they stripped him

  362. of the robe and put his own clothes on

  363. him and led him away to crucify him. A

  364. grotesque

  365. coronation in five acts. And you go,

  366. where where are you seeing that? And I

  367. think that's a great question to answer.

  368. And so you look at the first thing that

  369. we see here. And in act one, you see

  370. that there's a gathering. Matthew

    Matthew 27 chapter mention

  371. chapter 27 27 says what? That they

  372. gathered the whole company around him.

  373. There's a gathering and that's

  374. significant company. The word that's

  375. used here uh in Greek in the original

  376. language, it's a word that means

  377. battalion or or cohort. It literally

  378. means a tenth of a legion. A legion of

  379. Roman soldiers would have been about

  380. 6,000 Roman soldiers. And so a tenth of

  381. that, you're talking roughly 600

  382. soldiers have gathered together here

  383. around Jesus Christ. And they do so with

  384. the intention of having a public

  385. demonstration of profuse humiliation of

  386. the Lord Jesus Christ. And yet what we

  387. also see is that while they intended to

  388. just put forth this public humiliation

  389. of him, they also are forgetting the

  390. fact that whenever you have a coronation

  391. of a king, there are always witnesses.

  392. They are witnessing right now the

  393. coronation of King Jesus before he will

  394. ascend his throne. And what we see is

  395. that they are going to gather as

  396. witnesses alongside heaven that is

  397. waiting on the edge of its seat in this

  398. moment. There is a gathering in the

  399. first act which is significant. The

  400. second act that we see is that there is

  401. the clothing of the king Jesus that

  402. you'll see in verse 28. What does it

  403. say? It says that they stripped him and

  404. dressed him in a what? In a scarlet

  405. robe. They stripped him in line with the

  406. public humiliation of crucifixion. That

  407. you would not just be hung up there for

  408. everybody to see, but oftentimes you

  409. would be hung bare so that people could

  410. see that you are not only being

  411. humiliated because you're suffering like

  412. a criminal on a cross, but there's

  413. nothing to hide the shame of your whole

  414. body up there for everybody to see. What

  415. we also see is that it's not just that

  416. it says that they stripped him. It says

  417. that they also dressed him, which is an

  418. ironic turn of events because what we

  419. see happen is that a Roman military

  420. official would take their cloak and

  421. drape it over the shoulders of Jesus

  422. after we see that he has been flogged,

  423. bloodied, and probably slumped. And in

  424. that moment, what they don't realize is

  425. that the cloak that they drape around

  426. Jesus' shoulders is also one that is

  427. scarlet. In other words, it's royal.

  428. That in order to have any kind of deep

  429. red dye or any kind of purple, it was

  430. expensive. You had to be a ruler or of

  431. nobility to be someone that had that

  432. kind of color in your possession. And

  433. so, we see here that they intended to

  434. put a crude costume on Jesus and say,

  435. "This is who you think you are." Little

  436. do they know that they have just put the

  437. color of a royal robe around the true

  438. king. And as they do so, they don't

  439. recognize not only is it the color of

  440. nobility and ruling, it's also the color

  441. of blood which he will shed on other

  442. people's behalf, even those that are

  443. mocking him in this moment. You see that

  444. there's not only going to be a

  445. gathering, and there's not just going to

  446. be a clothing, but in a third act, and

  447. probably the one that most of us know

  448. better than any else, we see that there

  449. is going to be a crowning of the King of

  450. Kings. Here in Matthew chap 27 in verse

  451. 29 it says they twisted together a crown

  452. of thorns and put a staff in his right

  453. hand. They twisted together a crown of

  454. thorns. Isn't it interesting that in

  455. Genesis chapter 3 17 and 18 at the fall

    Genesis 3 chapter mention

  456. of man when Adam and Eve break faith

  457. with God and we see that sin enters the

  458. world God says something interesting to

  459. them. He says, "Because of you, the

  460. ground will be cursed and thorns and

  461. thistles will rise from the earth." You

  462. fast forward to Galatians chapter 3:13

  463. and it says that Jesus Christ redeemed

  464. us from the curse by bearing the curse

  465. on our behalf. What is happening here is

  466. when they place the crown of thorns on

  467. Jesus, they are putting sin on his head

  468. and stamping it through his flesh and

  469. into his skull. That we see that he's

  470. going to bear the curse and break the

  471. curse that you and I might be freed from

  472. that curse. And we see that they're

  473. going to put a staff in his hand. And

  474. you read that and you're like, "What'

  475. they do? Throw an iron scepter in his

  476. hand like a king would rule with?" No,

  477. it was a thin, weak reed, making fun of

  478. his claim. They're saying, "You're a

  479. poor beggar. You don't get a crown of

  480. glory. You get a crown of thorns." They

  481. put a scepter in his hand that's

  482. supposed to act like a scepter, but

  483. really isn't. They're like, "No, no, no.

  484. You've got a thin, weak claim to any

  485. kind of throne." But what they do not

  486. realize is that this king will rule, but

  487. he will rule through different

  488. circumstances. He will rule through the

  489. humility of being the king of glory who

  490. will end up bearing the world's

  491. sinfulness and brokenness in his very

  492. body that you and I might have life in

  493. his name. We see that there is going to

  494. be a gathering around the King of glory.

  495. There's going to be a clothing of the

  496. King of Glory. There's going to be a

  497. crowning of the King of Glory. There's

  498. also going to be bowing before the King

  499. of Glory that you see here. It says they

  500. knelt down and mocked him.

  501. They knelt down as you would when a king

  502. would walk into a room that you would

  503. pay homage. You would pay respect. There

  504. was reverence for the position even if

  505. you did not like the person which some

  506. of y'all can take back to work on

  507. Monday. And so we see

  508. here that as they're bowing before the

  509. King of

  510. Kings, they're doing so not in a way to

  511. show honor and respect, but they're

  512. reving

  513. him. And in this moment, they're being

  514. sarcastic in the way that they're

  515. pretending to worship him, saying, "You

  516. are no king. You are suffering at our

  517. hands. But what they do not know is that

  518. he will stretch his hands that they too

  519. might be saved." And the way that

  520. they're worshiping here before the

  521. suffering king is just a foreshadowing

  522. of true worship that they will end up

  523. demonstrating just hours later when the

  524. sky goes black. that we see that there

  525. is a bowing before the King of Kings as

  526. well. We see that there's gathering,

  527. clothing, crowning, bowing, and now we

  528. see that there will be the procession.

  529. It says in Matthew 27:30 and 31 that

    Matthew 27:30

  530. they spat on him, took the staff and

  531. kept hitting him on the head. It says

  532. they mocked him, they stripped him of

  533. the robe and put his own clothes on him

  534. and they led him away to crucify him. a

  535. continuation of the coronation. How? The

  536. royal

  537. procession. How most of us probably

  538. picture anyone that's ascending a throne

  539. is that you will see that there is a

  540. royal procession. He will walk and

  541. people will line the streets watching as

  542. he's being led away. And these soldiers

  543. think that they are leading Jesus Christ

  544. to the cross where he will be ended. But

  545. what they do not understand is that

  546. they're leading him to a place where he

  547. will not be ended, but he will be

  548. enthroned forever. That you see in

  549. Matthew chap 27, as you keep reading in

  550. verses 45- 54, it says this, "From noon

  551. until 3:00 in the afternoon, as Jesus is

  552. hanging on the cross, darkness came over

  553. the whole land, Jesus cried out again

  554. with a loud voice and gave up his

  555. spirit. Suddenly the curtain of the

  556. sanctuary was torn in two from top to

  557. bottom. The earth quaked and the rocks

  558. were split. And when the centurion and

  559. those with him who were keeping watch

  560. over Jesus saw the earthquake and the

  561. things that had happened, they were

  562. terrified and said, "Truly, this man was

  563. the son of

  564. God." It ends with the enthroning.

  565. You see that the centurion and those who

  566. were with him say truly this is the son

  567. of God. Who is the centurion and those

  568. who are with him? The very ones that had

  569. just performed this coronation for the

  570. king. The ones that are beating him,

  571. mocking him, spitting on him that you

  572. see that it is the same individuals that

  573. as soon as they enthroned him on high,

  574. they realized in that moment he is who

  575. he said he is. He's the king of kings.

  576. Jesus said in John

    John 12:32

  577. 12:32 that I am going to be lifted above

  578. the earth and when I am I will draw all

  579. people to me. Jesus is yes talking about

  580. his elevation literally from the earth

  581. as he is nailed to a cross and put up

  582. for all to see. But we also know that

  583. he's not just talking about his

  584. elevation on the cross but his

  585. exaltation on the cross. that the cross

  586. is his throne. Why do we put crosses on

  587. our necks? Why do we get around this

  588. symbol? Because that's the throne.

  589. That's the place from which he said, "I

  590. am the one who gets to rule all things

  591. because I'm reconciling all things

  592. through me." You see that it's on the

  593. throne that Jesus Christ is saying,

  594. "Yes, I will be executed here, but I

  595. will forever be exalted here." It is at

  596. this place where justice and mercy will

  597. meet. It is at that place where holiness

  598. and love will embrace. It is 2

  599. Corinthians 5 21 that says this. For our

  600. sake he made him who knew no sin to be

  601. sin so that in him we might become the

  602. righteousness of God. That Jesus Christ

  603. took on a crown of thorns so that you

  604. could find yourself clothed in

  605. righteousness. Why do you celebrate this

  606. today? Because it's the day that God got

  607. in your grave.

  608. It's the day God got in your

  609. grave. He took on your sin and your

  610. shame and he conquered

  611. it so that you could know I can step

  612. out in the freedom of knowing that I'm a

  613. son. I'm a daughter of the one true

  614. king. This is simultaneously the worst

  615. day and the second greatest day in all

  616. of human history. Why? Because it looks

  617. like death, but it gives me

  618. life. You have life in his name today.

  619. And you might be in here and you're and

  620. you might be like, "Do I?" I don't

  621. know. Those of us who know, we know.

  622. Like we know. And it's it's it's it's

  623. not it's it's not like a golf club

  624. thing. It it it's

  625. like desperately need him thing,

  626. broken beyond belief thing, made whole

  627. by him thing.

  628. Like you you got to understand like you

  629. you only get so many chances to

  630. surrender and have your life mean

  631. something that's going to echo long past

  632. what it is that we're experiencing right

  633. now. And I want to give us a moment

  634. before we take communion. If you would

  635. just bow your heads with me for a

  636. moment. If you've never put your faith

  637. in the Lord Jesus Christ, I want to just

  638. give you an

  639. opportunity. May maybe you're like, you

  640. know what? I I I I don't I don't know

  641. that I've never done this, but you know

  642. what? I' I've been living kind of the

  643. way I want to, but I want to fully

  644. surrender to him that I might be able to

  645. partake in the Lord's supper together

  646. with brothers and sisters in here who

  647. are not better than you, but are just

  648. saying, "We're as broken as you are.

  649. If you've never put your faith in Jesus

  650. Christ

  651. today and you want to make that

  652. decision, would you just raise your hand

  653. if that's you and say, "You know what? I

  654. I want to be fully surrendered to the

  655. Lord Jesus

  656. Christ." And if you would, would you

  657. pray this with me and

  658. say, "Lord, I'm a sinner in need of a

  659. savior.

  660. I I believe that you lived the perfect

  661. life that I could not and that you died

  662. the death that I deserved in my place

  663. upon the cross. I believe that you shed

  664. innocent, perfect blood

  665. willingly so that I could have my sins

  666. covered, taken away, past, present, and

  667. future. I believe you were buried in a

  668. tomb for three days, but you rose to

  669. life again. And because of your life, I

  670. can have life in your name.

  671. Scripture says, "If you believe in your

  672. heart and confess with your mouth that

  673. Jesus Christ is Lord, then you will be

  674. saved." How grateful for salvation in

  675. this house.

  676. Does everybody have one of

  677. these? If you don't have one, we've got

  678. teams

  679. of individuals that are going to come

  680. by. No

  681. shame. We like to have fun at this

  682. church. If you raise your hand, we're

  683. going to make you share a fiveminute

  684. testimony. Kidding.

  685. Kidding. Everybody got one. This is This

  686. is a family thing. This is a family

  687. thing. The heaviness is done for right

  688. now. Family thing. It's all good. Raise

  689. your hand. Uh we we want to read some

  690. scripture

  691. together. On the night

  692. before Jesus is crucified, he institutes

  693. the Lord's Supper.

  694. And and what I want to do is is read

  695. what Jesus said to his disciples,

  696. knowing that we too are his and join in

  697. this

  698. together. Matthew 26

  699. 26 says this. As they were eating, Jesus

  700. took bread and blessed it and broke it

  701. and gave it to his disciples and said,

  702. "Take and eat. This is my body." And now

  703. we take and eat and remember his body

  704. broken and torn up for you and

  705. I. Thank you

  706. Lord. Anybody grateful

  707. that your story is not identified by

  708. your scars but by his scars.

  709. It says in verse 27, "Then he took a

  710. cup and after giving thanks, he gave it

  711. to them and said, "Drink from it all of

  712. you, for this is my blood of the

  713. covenant which is poured out for many

  714. for the forgiveness of sins." Anybody

  715. grateful that your sins are forgiven in

  716. this house tonight. I will not drink

  717. from this fruit of the vine from now on

  718. until that day when I drink it new with

  719. you in my father's kingdom. And so now

  720. we take it and drink in celebration all

  721. he's done.

  722. Lord,

  723. your word says in verse

  724. 30 that

  725. after sharing in the Lord's

  726. supper, the disciples went to the Mount

  727. of Olives and they

  728. sang. And so Lord, my prayer is that we

  729. would be a people that sing like

  730. we're absolved

  731. of our sin and shame because you took it

  732. upon

  733. yourself. Lord, would we be a people

  734. that have joy in this house

  735. tonight knowing all that you've done for

  736. us? Jesus, we love you. We praise you

  737. and we thank you. We ask this in your

  738. name. Amen.
