Change Your Filter And Brew Some Smooth Word

So tonight my message, the title of my message, is check your filter and brew some smooth words.

How many of y'all are coffee drinkers?

I am Hot tea drinker, coffee drinker.

It was my birthday not too long ago and I got a new coffee maker.

So now we have three.

We have just a regular pot and then we have an espresso machine that somebody gave me, and then now I have another coffee machine, and so when I was putting it together and reading the instructions, it came with a couple of filters, but it wanted me to use certain kind of filters.

I was like, okay, I got to get another filter, and so it just got me thinking on the things that we filter and allow.

The word of God is the filter in our lives, and so what we say, our words that we speak, are very important, and so, before I get in my message, I wanted, so we got two.

Now we're always getting happy mail in the mail not always, sometimes most of the time we do and I got two.

Actually, pastor got two cards and I wanted to read those to you because they not only when you mail something to Pastor a sweet note or whatever he shares it with the staff.

So this one was a Valentine's Day card that we just got from Elizabeth Norwood.

So cute.

It says Dear Pastor John, knowing that Glorious Way is not a traditionalist church, I believe it's appropriate to send a Valentine's card at any time, because the love at Glorious Way is constant.

I could never in a lifetime put into words what this church has done for me in all the areas of my life, but mostly spiritually.

If you only knew what God has done in the life of this somewhat insignificant person by creating a powerful, bold and confident woman of who I am in Christ, thanks to your teaching and boldness to speak the truth.

Forever grateful in Christ.

So let's pray before I get started, father, god, we thank you, lord, for today.

This is the day that you have made.

We will rejoice and be glad in it, father.

We just thank you, father, that our heart is open to your word.

Tonight, father, our ears are open to what you have to say.

It is not me speaking, but it's you through me, father, using me.

We are just vessels here on this earth, father.

It is not.

We don't go by the natural and what it looks like, father, but we go by the supernatural.

Father, I just thank you for sending your son, jesus, father, to die on the cross for us, father, so that we can live a victorious life in Jesus' name, amen, amen, okay.

So going back to my coffee machine that I just got, so I got this title, so check your filter and brew some smooth words.

And so how many of you all have ever had a bad cup of coffee?

Like I have right, and it's not.

You know, you're, maybe it's, you're at iHop and it's been a long day and you want some coffee and they didn't make fresh coffee, and that's okay, no complaining here.

But your expectation is like, hey, I'm gonna, I'm gonna get a good cup of coffee.

Or you go somewhere else and and you get the cup of coffee and it's not very good.

It doesn't taste good, or it's lukewarm or not very hot, or it's been sitting on the bar for all day.

But anyways, the filter is an important part, it plays an important part of that coffee machine.

It filters things out that shouldn't be in that coffee, and so same with the word of God when we apply it.

It filters things.

We if, but if we don't ever read it, if we don't ever take the time to meditate on the word, it it's not gonna.

Our life is gonna be a mess.

It's not gonna be filtered correctly, and so we're gonna go through a couple of scriptures tonight.

I hope they encourage, I hope that they help you.

So John, one to one, says in the beginning was the word and the word was with God, and the word was God.

God created the universe with the spoken word.

Spoken word is pretty important, isn't it?

Hebrews 11 3 says by faith, we understand that the world were framed by the word of God, so that the things which you're seeing were not made of things which are visible.

So think about that for a moment.

Things which you're seeing, creation was made from unseen was made from words.

So words are very powerful.

Words can destroy things or words can create things.

And I've been reading this book by Charles Capps really good little book, the Tongue, a Creative Force.

I encourage you.

I don't I'm sure we sell it here in the media, but it's been helpful.

It just has a lot of scriptures on confession and our words and faith filled words and so a couple of things that it says in there.

The spirit world is controlled by the word of God.

The natural world is to be controlled by man speaking God's word.

The spoken word of God is creative power.

So God's word is creative power.

It creates things.

You know how, sometimes you know, god gave us an imagination and you can use it to the good or you can use it to the bad.

But when your imagination you can create something like maybe there's an issue and it's a minor thing, but you've gone all day and you've built this, you've created this imagination, and so, anyway, so our words create things or they can destroy things, and so the word of God has a lot to say about our words and what we say and what we do with them.

And so I'm just going to give you a couple of scriptures and proverbs, many scriptures and proverbs.

So I'm going to read to you a couple proverbs.

Six two in the New King James says you are snared by the words of your mouth.

You are taken by the words of your mouth.

Proverbs 1821 death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.

Proverbs 2620 in the NIV says without wood, a fire goes out, without a gossip, a coral dies down.

And so a good thing on that scripture is hey, just walk away from gossip, right?

A lot of chit chatting, a lot of hearsay.

A good thing is just walk away from it.

You don't even have to contribute to it, right?

That's what the word wants us to do.

The word wants us to walk away from gossip.

Proverbs 1624, pleasant words Everybody in the comments you can write pleasant words are like a honeycomb.

We just bought a jar of honey and it had part of the honeycomb in there.

So good I ate.

I got that's like dessert, right, I put I get like pecans and put some honey on there.

But I love the honeycomb.

And so that's how the word of God says pleasant words are like honeycomb sweetness to the soul and health to the bones.

Proverbs 133 says he who guards his mouth preserves his life, but he who opens wide his lips shall have destruction.

So to guard your mouth means watch what you're saying, right?

Pretty plain and clear.

There's no.

I mean you can look at it, look it up in different translations, but that's pretty plain and clear.

Proverbs 2920 says do you see a man hasty in his words?

There is more hope for a fool than him.

Let me read that again.

Do you see a man hasty in his words?

There is more hope for a fool than him.

So we don't want to be hasty in our words, amen.

And then Colossians 4-6 says let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.

So here the word of God says you know our speech, our words.

It's very descriptive, it's very clear what it says.

It's sweet, pleasant, right, put a guard over our mouth.

So there's a characteristic as to how we should be speaking and what we should be speaking and how much we should be speaking.

There's no murky, muddy water here and like that's not clear.

No, the Bible is very clear about what words we should be speaking Mark 11, 23,.

And I'll turn there.

For assuredly I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, be removed and cast into the sea, and does not doubt in his heart but believes those things he says, will be done, for he shall have whatever he says.

So saying is pretty important.

Here we have this mountain, and sure, believing is, you know, believing is part of our Christianity, believing is part of our faith walk.

But in this verse, saying talks about saying a lot more than it talks about believing.

And so what we say, the spoken word, our words, are containers.

They're either words of faith, hope, love, or they're words of fear, doubt, dread.

You know dread is not a good thing.

I remember dreading ooh, I messed with my mic, sorry To be in a speech class, and like dreading.

Going up in front of the class and having to read whatever I'd written.

I was like, ooh, I hope I don't go first.

But eventually I, like man, I wanna go first to get this over with.

There's a dread right.

Or there is like a project at school and sometimes I would dread it and oh, all the work that's gonna go into that and I have to.

You know, time outside of school and it's just gonna be a lot of work.

But you know what?

Life doesn't have to be dread and that's part of fear and our words shouldn't be full of dread and disbelief because that's the enemy's territory, amen.

So I have a couple of points tonight.

Number one don't lose sight of God's word.

Proverbs 420 in the New King James says my son, give attention to my words.

So right there, what, whose words should we be attending to?

Our heavenly father Says give attention to my words, incline your ear to my sayings.

Do not let them depart from your eyes.

Keep them in the midst of your heart, for they are a life to those who find them in health, to all their flesh.

And so here he's saying, whose words you know.

I ask you, whose words are you attending to?

We should be attending to the words of our heavenly father that he has a good plan for us, he with the future and a hope.

He loves us, not words of, you know, doubt and unbelief.

Or the news.

You know, whatever news, it's all bad and you don't really feel uplifted after you've watched the news all day.

You kind of.

Or in this, you know, have you ever seen the news?

And then you walk away and you go outside and you're like, oh, this world, it's just so bad.

No, we can't.

I mean, yes, we have to stay informed, but Put the word first.

You know, don't lose sight of the word of God, because it's the more you read and the more you meditate on the word of God, the more it's going to filter out the bad things.

And some, you know, going back to coffee, you wouldn't want to drink coffee with all this nasty stuff in it and coffee grounds, right.

And so many of the times we filter out the good and then we keep the bad.

You know, we hold on to the lies of the enemy, bad right instead of what is God saying in His word?

Or we keep, you know, jealousy instead of letting it go, forget, believe in the best in somebody else.

What does the word say about that?

And so the more you meditate on the word and the more you give attention to it, the more it's easier to filter out those things that the enemy throws our way.

And so simple points here.

But we have to do them.

We have to do our part and don't lose sight of God's word.

Number two is filter your words and thoughts through the word of God.

And then it goes on in Proverbs 4, 23,.

Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it springs the issues of life.

You know, when we meditate so I'm talking about words, you know filtering out through the word of God, and so all of that's connected.

What we meditate, that's eventually going to come out of our mouth.

You know, have you ever said something and they kind of slipped?

You're like yikes, that was rude.

You know, didn't mean to say no, it was in there.

You maybe didn't mean to let it come out of your mouth, but you had been meditating on it.

It was in there.

It was in your heart.

You were thinking about that, you just spewed it out, and so we have to be careful, you know, to put a guard over our mouth, watch what we say and how we say.

That's a whole other message.

How we say something you know you could have.

It could have been fact, and maybe those were the facts, or.

But it's how you approached it, it's how your tone of voice, and so God.

God cares about all that.

He cares about how we say things, and because we can't be a good witness for him if we're cranky and mad all the time and upset and don't ever smile and wake up on the wrong side of the bed, how, how are we can't be a witness like that.

We can't be a good witness.

And so I just want to encourage.

So let me go back to Proverbs four.

Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it springs the issues of life.

Put away.

And so verse Proverbs four, 24, put away.

What does that mean?

You put it away for good.

You don't get it back off the shelf.

You put it away, you're done with it.

Put away from you a deceitful mouth and put perverse lips far from you.

Let your eyes look straight ahead and your eyelids look right before you.

Right, you're focused.

You're focused on his word.

You're focused on what God says about you, not what the doctor says.

You're focused on what his promises are.

So you're focused on that.

Your eyes are looking straight ahead.

That's what somebody else is doing, right, straight ahead.

Look at his word, ponder the path of your feet and let all your ways be established.

Do not turn to the right or left.

Remove your foot from evil.

So you know, that's important.

God wants us to keep our heart with all diligence, for out of it springs the issues of life, and so our thoughts are.

So what we think.

I mean that's where the battlefield is in the mind, and so your words coming out.

You've been meditating on something, and so there's no neutrality, there's no neutral ground.

Some, you know, maybe you're like, oh, I'm not thinking about anything.

Well, that's no.

Put the word in there.

Think about the word, because eventually, left up to yourself, it's going to be no good.

Right left up to the natural man you're the natural man tends to go towards pity right, pity party.

Woe is me.

And so you have to.

You can't.

There's no neutrality, so you have to fill your thoughts, fill your mind with the word of God, right, so we can filter out all those bad things, all those things that don't belong.

That's not part of the abundant life that God has given us.

Proverbs 4.23 in the amplified says put away from you false and dishonest speech and willful and contrary talk.

Put far from you Contrary, contrary to the word, contrary to what God says, right.

So put it far away from you.

So our words either disagree the words that we are speaking daily.

Think about the words you spoke today.

Did they agree with the word of God?

Or they disagree, right.

So we have to think about what you're thinking about.

I say that sometimes.

Think about what you're thinking about.

Think about because it's going to produce words, and so you have to meditate on the word of God.

Romans 12.2 in the amplified says do not be conformed to this world, this age, fashioned after and adapted to its external superficial customs, but be transformed, changed by the entire renewal of your mind, by its new ideals and its new attitude, so that you may prove for yourselves what is good and acceptable and perfect will of God, even the thing which is good and acceptable and perfect in his sight for you.

So here he's saying hey, don't be conformed to this world, but be transformed.

And then the amplified says you're going to have a new attitude, right, you're going to these new ideals by the renewing of your mind.

So when you, the more you read the word, the more you renew your mind, the more this.

You're going to get a new attitude, right.

And so we want to have a good attitude.

We want to have a God attitude and God's not negative, right, we don't want to have a negative attitude.

God is not now God.

God's very clear in his word.

He has a side yes, he does, but God is a good God.

God's a positive God.

He loves us.

He has a good plan for us, for us.

He is not a negative God.

He is not there to beat you upside the head when you mess up.

Just think about the prodigal son.

Did that dad beat him upside the head?

Did he put him in time out?

Did he say I told you so?

No, he threw him a party, he gave him the best robe, he gave him the best party in the neighborhood.

And so that's how our Heavenly Father is.

He's a good God and he has a good plan for us, with a good attitude.

And so, just like, so we should be like our Heavenly Father, good God, right, we want to be good, we want to have a good attitude, we want to have a positive attitude.

And it starts with our thought life, right.

And so it starts with filtering out those things that don't belong in our body, that don't belong in our mind.

And so, you know, you have to check, you know, when you have a thought, you have to ask yourself is that a God thought or is that a devil thought?

It's good to ask ourselves.

So Philippians 4, 8, and the New King James says Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of a good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy, meditate on these things, the things which you've learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.

So what we're thinking about, here's a list.

Like you don't even have to wonder what am I supposed to be thinking about.

So that thought that crosses your mind, here's your checklist.

Let me go to Philippians four.

What does Paul say?

Whatever things are true and noble and lovely in a good report.

Those are the things we meditate on and then those are the things we're speaking.

Those are the words that are coming out of our mouth.

It's not, I can't do that.

I don't see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Jay, sometimes now I'm not throwing you under the bus, but, jay would be like I feel like I got run over by a Mack truck I'm like, and literally I'll think of that, like I'll think of a Mack truck and I'm like, no, jay, I don't want you to get run over by a Mack truck.

And sometimes I'll say, you know, I'll catch myself saying things and I'm like no, what does the word say?

We gotta get back to the word.

Speak only God's words, not our own opinion, not what we think.

God's words and those have a tone to it, right?

So always, first, corinthians 13, love.

You know, we always should be caring for others more than us.

And so Philippians four.

So I just encourage you, hey, if you're like what do I think about?

Here's the list true, noble, just pure, lovely, whatever's gonna build, because the words that you speak aren't just for you but your family, if you're in a house and there's other people in that house, so they're not only you're not only hearing your words, but those other people are hearing your words.

And so, if you have kids, what kind of example are you leading?

If you say negative things all the time, negative things that are contrary to the word of God?

Whether you realize it or not, you're being an example, and either you're being a godly example or you're not.

And so words that we speak are not just for us, but they're for others, our family members and our friends, and so we should always be encouraging one another.

And then my point three is just repeat steps one and two, kind of like you're in the shower and you read the back of a shampoo bottle it's like wash rinse and then you repeat right, dig into the word, filter out whatever it doesn't need to be there, you know.

And then you just do it again.

You meditate on the word daily amen, and I wanted to read to you a couple.

Okay, so we have for our youth, we did these back to school confessions.

But Charles Capps here, he has some confessions in the back and I just wanted to read a couple to you guys.

I take the shield, so Ephesians 616 says I take the shield of faith and I quench every fiery dart that the wicked one brings against me.

You know that's a good confession when you feel that thought and then you're about to say whatever that thought was that came from the enemy.

You say you know.

Ephesians 616 says I take the shield of faith and I quench the fiery dart that the devil's bringing against me.

Revelation 12, 11 says I'm an overcomer and I overcome by the blood of the lamb and the word of my testimony.

There's a scripture there the word of your testimony.

It's pretty important what you're saying.

What's the word of your testimony?

James 4, 7 says the devil flees from me because I resist him.

In the name of Jesus, the word of God is forever settled in heaven.

Therefore, I establish his word upon this earth.

Psalm 119, 89,.

It's established, but we have to take dominion here.

Great is the peace of my children, for they are taught of the Lord.

This is a good one to.

If you have kids, this is a good one to say.

Great is the peace of my children, for they are taught of the Lord.

There is no lack for my God's supplies, all my need, according to his riches and glory.

I delight myself in the Lord and he gives me the desires of my heart.

Psalm 37,.

The Lord will perfect that which concerns me.

Psalm 138, 8.

So these are just good confessions.

And you know, when our kids were little and I think they might still have them on their mirror, but I printed out confessions and they put them on this.

So every time you brush your teeth you were looking at the word of God and you were confessing.

You know you have to keep it, just like God told Joshua hey, meditate on this word day and night, don't let it depart.

Meditate, roll it over, think about it.

Let it be number one.

So when the enemy comes, then hey, you already, you're prepared, you have the armor of God.

So you're not in disarray, so you should.

On the forefront.

You already know what to do, and I wrote down this.

Dl Moody says out of a hundred men, one will read the Bible, but the other 99 will read the Christian, and so sometimes, when we run across people, they may not have picked up a Bible, but you're their Bible, right, and so it's the words, the attitudes that we're portraying and the words that we're speaking.

You're Jesus here on this earth, and so I just wanna encourage you, don't allow the things of this earth to get past that filter you know to get.

You want some smooth coffee.

You want some smooth words coming out of your mouth, not words that are negative.

We wanna be proclaiming the promises of God.

We wanna have faith-filled words.

No matter the doctor report, no matter the situation, no matter what it looks like financially, we should be proclaiming the word of God, amen, amen.
