  1. It doesn't hit till later.

  2. We can make our way home safely.

  3. And this is my first time actually being with you guys

  4. since you've been here in this new location.

  5. And so far, and I anticipate for the entire time,

  6. Peg and I are just so ecstatic and enjoying our time

  7. and getting to meet you guys

  8. and really in it all to see the grace of God at work.

  9. That's the thing that's amazing.

  10. And maybe in some ways I offer a vantage point

  11. that no one else quite has,

  12. just haven't been part of this and working with the team

  13. and watching God work in our church,

  14. watching God work here in East Cambridge

  15. and our sister churches

  16. and watching God really put together this church

  17. and watching the grace of God at work.

  18. So I'm really excited to be here.

  19. And I'm excited actually to speak from Acts 11 as well

  20. related to the grace of God,

  21. because that's what we see, that's what we heard

  22. as we listen to Acts 11 read.

  23. It talked about the grace of God at work

  24. and forming a church,

  25. and a church that in many ways is a model church for us.

  26. God's given us his word,

  27. given us the book of Acts for many different purposes,

  28. but one is to paint a picture for us

  29. of what the church looks like

  30. or what the church ought to look like.

  31. So that's what we'll be doing this morning.

  32. It's just learning from this model church in Antioch.

  33. Let me ask as I start out,

  34. how many people here grew up going to church?

  35. Just raise your hand.

  36. Did you grow up going to church?

  37. Wow, a lot of you guys.

  38. That's excellent.

  39. And how many here have been part of a church

  40. at some point, I know it wouldn't be this church,

  41. but like for five or ten years?

  42. That's a lot of us.

  43. Okay, great.

  44. Now I'm sure for you guys

  45. that those experiences growing up

  46. and being part of a church

  47. have influenced you,

  48. have influenced you significantly,

  49. and perhaps in all sorts of ways.

  50. For Peg and for me,

  51. our first church,

  52. well, we grew up in Roman Catholic churches

  53. and there's good things there

  54. that certainly influenced us,

  55. but our first church,

  56. having come to faith,

  57. was a church in the inner city.

  58. It's still there, actually,

  59. in Jamaica Plain.

  60. At the time,

  61. it was called Rock Hill Alliance Church.

  62. It's called River of Life Church now.

  63. And that was our first church

  64. as a young couple.

  65. And it's had a huge influence on our lives.

  66. We still refer to it often,

  67. our experience in that church

  68. and the things that went on.

  69. We got to see the Lord at work in many ways.

  70. And kind of our picture and paradigm

  71. of church life in many ways

  72. was influenced by our time there.

  73. I can just remember

  74. just the relationships that were there,

  75. the love that was there,

  76. the friendship that was there.

  77. And it wasn't just love and friendship.

  78. You know, it was also this corporate experience

  79. of God at work.

  80. We were watching God work among us

  81. and there were all sorts of things happening.

  82. We saw people come to Christ.

  83. We saw people coming out

  84. of all sorts of backgrounds.

  85. We saw God healing

  86. and moving in believers' lives

  87. in powerful ways,

  88. breakthroughs happening.

  89. We saw a lot of crazy stuff.

  90. It was because we were in the inner city.

  91. There's just a brokenness around us,

  92. the brokenness in us as well.

  93. And there were just all sorts of things.

  94. And we just watched the Lord at work.

  95. And I think for us,

  96. that has influenced how we look at church.

  97. And at this point in time even,

  98. this is now 20, 30 years ago,

  99. more than 30 years ago.

  100. I'm getting old.

  101. And it still influences us

  102. in our sense,

  103. in our anticipation,

  104. in eagerness to see God work

  105. amidst His people

  106. and through His people

  107. because of that experience.

  108. Model churches,

  109. this is our churches

  110. that we were a part of,

  111. even if it were negative in some ways.

  112. Our experience in churches

  113. really instructs us

  114. and teaches us.

  115. And thank God that,

  116. I would assume for many of us,

  117. we've had many positive experiences

  118. that have shaped how we understand

  119. the Christian life.

  120. Well, I think God wants it to be that way.

  121. He wants us to be influenced

  122. and wants us to look back

  123. and say,

  124. wow, I learned this

  125. and it was fantastic.

  126. But even more importantly,

  127. God has given us,

  128. in His Word,

  129. a model church.

  130. And that's really what the church

  131. in Antioch is.

  132. It's a model church.

  133. And I just want to draw some lessons

  134. from this church this morning,

  135. pointing out some of the things

  136. that we can observe in the passage,

  137. and then applying them.

  138. Applying them here for us.

  139. Actually, I need to,

  140. sorry,

  141. I need a clock to keep myself honest.

  142. And this is my clock.

  143. I'm going to put my Bible down.

  144. So we're just going to go through.

  145. Let me tell you a little bit

  146. about the church in Antioch

  147. that will help you understand

  148. and kind of better absorb

  149. what we can learn from Antioch.

  150. That passage in Acts 11

  151. is of the church in Antioch.

  152. The time frame around

  153. when that was happening

  154. was about 45 AD.

  155. This is about 15 years

  156. after the church had started.

  157. So the church,

  158. I mean the whole church

  159. started in Jerusalem

  160. the day of Pentecost.

  161. So it's about 15 years later.

  162. And the church is growing.

  163. The church in Jerusalem is growing.

  164. There's things happening.

  165. But they're still trying

  166. to figure out.

  167. They're still trying to figure out

  168. kind of what they're supposed

  169. to be doing.

  170. They know in some ways

  171. but they're still figuring out.

  172. And particularly related

  173. to their mission.

  174. And the particular items

  175. of confusion or concern

  176. were how do we do this thing

  177. with people that aren't Jewish?

  178. How do we do this thing?

  179. How do we relate to the temple

  180. and the Mosaic Law

  181. and the truths

  182. that we've learned from Jesus?

  183. So they're wrestling through that.

  184. And that's what you see happening

  185. in the early parts

  186. of the book of Acts.

  187. And as that's going on,

  188. God is at work.

  189. And God is doing things

  190. actually in them

  191. and through them

  192. that they didn't necessarily expect.

  193. There was a persecution.

  194. Stephen, who was a Greek-speaking Jew,

  195. was bold

  196. and he proclaimed the gospel.

  197. He was kind of ahead of his time

  198. in understanding the implications

  199. of Christ's coming

  200. and fulfilling the Old Testament,

  201. the implications on the temple

  202. and the law.

  203. And he said some things

  204. that were true about that

  205. and even spoke prophetically

  206. to the leaders in Jerusalem.

  207. And as a result,

  208. he was stoned.

  209. He was put to death.

  210. And then a persecution

  211. broke out in the church.

  212. And what happened

  213. was the Greek-speaking Jews

  214. who were living in Jerusalem

  215. who had stayed

  216. because they were part of the church

  217. and they were watching God work,

  218. they were scattered.

  219. And they started going

  220. throughout the Roman Empire,

  221. really, at that point.

  222. And we read about

  223. how some went

  224. only speaking to Jews

  225. as they went.

  226. They only would speak to Jews.

  227. But there were these

  228. Greek-speaking Jews,

  229. Christians,

  230. who went with the gospel

  231. and started speaking to Greeks,

  232. just regular old Greeks,

  233. not Jewish Greek people,

  234. but Greek Greek people.

  235. And the word of God

  236. started to have an effect

  237. among those people.

  238. And so that happened

  239. in Antioch.

  240. That was the place

  241. it started to happen.

  242. This exciting new development

  243. that really had an influence

  244. in the church.

  245. What goes on

  246. in the storyline

  247. in the book of Acts

  248. and in church history

  249. is the center of Christian life

  250. shifts around this point

  251. from Jerusalem to Antioch.

  252. And Antioch has,

  253. just the grace of God

  254. gets poured out on Antioch.

  255. And we read about it.

  256. And as a result,

  257. Antioch grows

  258. and is a vibrant church

  259. and actually has an influence

  260. on the church

  261. that goes on for centuries

  262. as a result.

  263. So that's some

  264. of the background here.

  265. And that's why

  266. this is a model church

  267. to learn from.

  268. This is why it's worthwhile

  269. examining and looking

  270. because of what God

  271. was doing through Antioch

  272. and what he did

  273. in leading the church.

  274. So we're just going to

  275. make some observations.

  276. First observation

  277. I want to make

  278. is just to note

  279. how this church grew.

  280. How it got started

  281. and how it grew.

  282. Did you see

  283. as the passage was read

  284. and as you looked

  285. in your Bibles,

  286. did you see

  287. how it got started?

  288. Did you see

  289. what was going on?

  290. Did they

  291. kind of come up

  292. with a church service

  293. that offered something

  294. for everybody in Antioch

  295. and kind of invite people in?

  296. You know,

  297. you can find something

  298. for everybody here.

  299. Is that what happened?

  300. Was that what

  301. formed this church

  302. and got this dynamic church

  303. growing?

  304. Did they have

  305. like a really cool

  306. children's program

  307. that attracted

  308. all the young families

  309. in Antioch to come?

  310. Is that what went on?

  311. Did they have

  312. this amazing Sunday service

  313. that was entertaining

  314. and inviting

  315. and as a result

  316. everyone just decided

  317. I've got to check

  318. this place out.

  319. How did this church

  320. get started?

  321. What went on?

  322. What grew this church?

  323. It was the proclamation

  324. of Christ.

  325. It says in the passage

  326. there were some of them

  327. on coming to Antioch

  328. spoke to the Hellenists also

  329. that would be the Greeks

  330. preaching the Lord Jesus

  331. and the hand of the Lord

  332. was with them.

  333. So they went

  334. and they proclaimed Christ

  335. as they went.

  336. They preached Christ.

  337. They proclaimed the truth

  338. of Jesus Christ.

  339. Christ crucified and risen.

  340. Christ as the God man.

  341. God in the flesh

  342. who had come to rescue us

  343. and bring His kingdom.

  344. Christ who had come

  345. to create new creations

  346. to make people's lives

  347. new and different in Him

  348. through the good news of Christ.

  349. Christ, Jesus.

  350. They proclaimed Christ

  351. and the entailments of Christ.

  352. They proclaimed the good news

  353. what we call the gospel.

  354. That's what was going on

  355. in this church.

  356. That's what God had started.

  357. That's what grew this church.

  358. The proclamation

  359. of Jesus Christ.

  360. Verse 20.

  361. It says that a great number

  362. believed and turned to the Lord.

  363. A great number of people

  364. through the proclamation of Christ.

  365. That's how the church

  366. got started.

  367. That's how it grew.

  368. They told their friends

  369. and their neighbors

  370. about Jesus.

  371. And God blessed that.

  372. The preaching of the word.

  373. And that's what started

  374. and grew this dynamic church.

  375. That's important to get.

  376. That's important to note here

  377. and that's important

  378. to understand its implications.

  379. It wasn't just actually

  380. their initial proclamation either.

  381. This was a church

  382. that built itself up

  383. in the word of God.

  384. In the truth of the gospel

  385. at the core

  386. with the word of God.

  387. So it says that

  388. for a whole year

  389. Barnabas goes and he gets Saul.

  390. He recruits Saul.

  391. Brings him to this church.

  392. Barnabas is actually

  393. a wonderful figure in scripture.

  394. An encouraging leader.

  395. A developer of younger leaders

  396. it looks like.

  397. And so he was always thinking

  398. how can I develop a new leader?

  399. He knew about Saul already.

  400. Saul was a Greek speaking Jew

  401. and he probably thought

  402. this is perfect.

  403. This guy's been waiting

  404. in the wings for a while.

  405. I'm going to go get him.

  406. And he brings him to Antioch.

  407. And they teach the church.

  408. It says for a whole year

  409. they met with the church

  410. and taught a great many people.

  411. So the church

  412. not only got started

  413. by the word of God

  414. but it grew by the word of God.

  415. the health of this model church

  416. was grounded

  417. in one thing above any other.

  418. The spirit anointed preaching

  419. sharing and teaching

  420. of God's word

  421. with Christ at the center.

  422. That's

  423. that's its strategy.

  424. That's the key

  425. to growth

  426. for this model church.

  427. Guys I say that

  428. and you might be thinking

  429. well duh

  430. I mean

  431. we know that.

  432. But you know what

  433. it's so easy to drift

  434. from this simple

  435. and straightforward truth

  436. we see here at Acts.

  437. It's so easy to drift

  438. into other techniques

  439. to grow a church.

  440. It's so easy

  441. to depend

  442. on something else

  443. rather than the word of God.

  444. Now just to add

  445. an important qualifier here

  446. don't hear what I'm not saying.

  447. This doesn't mean

  448. that you

  449. can just forget about

  450. worrying about anything else.

  451. Right?

  452. Just preach Christ.

  453. So you can show up here

  454. on a Sunday morning

  455. you know

  456. don't comb your hair.

  457. Don't iron your clothes.

  458. You know

  459. don't brush your teeth.

  460. Don't set up the chair.

  461. Don't try to have

  462. an organized meeting.

  463. Don't say anything

  464. to your neighbors.

  465. Don't be involved

  466. in the community.

  467. Don't do any of those things.

  468. Just preach Jesus.

  469. No I'm not saying that.

  470. All those things

  471. actually should follow

  472. in line

  473. with a heart

  474. shaped by the gospel.

  475. We should seek

  476. to bless others

  477. with all those other things.

  478. But we can't depend

  479. on those other things.

  480. The tendency

  481. is to drift

  482. into depending

  483. on how polished

  484. your Sunday service is.

  485. or how excellent

  486. your program is.

  487. Or how

  488. you know

  489. how in tune

  490. you are

  491. with the community

  492. and the culture

  493. which you should be

  494. but to depend on that

  495. as your means of growth.

  496. That's not what we see

  497. in Antioch.

  498. It's the word

  499. of God.

  500. It's Christ

  501. crucified

  502. and risen.

  503. That's growing

  504. this church.

  505. And guys

  506. here at Trinity Cambridge

  507. that's what

  508. God is going to use

  509. to grow you.

  510. That's what God

  511. has been using.

  512. That's what God

  513. will use to grow you.

  514. That the word of God

  515. the gospel at the core

  516. that's your fuel.

  517. That's what's going to

  518. power you.

  519. That's what's going to

  520. bring life

  521. to this church.

  522. And that's what's going to

  523. empower this church

  524. to bring life

  525. to others.

  526. The gospel

  527. the good news

  528. Christ

  529. and him crucified.

  530. It's like the reactor

  531. fuel for an aircraft carrier.

  532. An aircraft carrier

  533. runs on

  534. actually nuclear fuel

  535. and the gospels

  536. like reactor fuel

  537. for the aircraft carrier.

  538. There's a lot that goes on

  539. in an aircraft carrier

  540. though.

  541. There's a lot of aspects

  542. to life on an aircraft carrier.

  543. There's the planes

  544. taking off.

  545. There's planes

  546. that escort planes.

  547. There's maintenance facilities.

  548. There's mess halls

  549. and quarters.

  550. There's all sorts of life

  551. going on in an aircraft carrier.

  552. But without the fuel

  553. it's dead in the water.

  554. And all those other

  555. accessories

  556. actually become burdens

  557. without the fuel

  558. to drive the aircraft carrier.

  559. That's what the gospel is.

  560. The gospel

  561. is your fuel.

  562. It empowers you

  563. as a church.

  564. It drives you.

  565. And all those other things

  566. are empowered

  567. and directed

  568. because of that.

  569. So everything you do

  570. is fueled

  571. by the word of God

  572. and by the gospel

  573. at the core of that.

  574. That's so important

  575. to get.

  576. So important

  577. to remember.

  578. I know you guys

  579. are committed

  580. to these things.

  581. To keeping Christ

  582. at the center of your church.

  583. I see it in worship here.

  584. I know from what I hear

  585. about the church

  586. this is what you guys

  587. are committed to

  588. and I want to celebrate that.

  589. I believe God

  590. is pleased

  591. with how you are

  592. doing things.

  593. And I just want

  594. to encourage you

  595. in this.

  596. I want to encourage you

  597. to be steadfast

  598. in this.

  599. To not be distracted.

  600. To not start putting

  601. some other things

  602. above the preaching

  603. of the word.

  604. To keep this

  605. as the fuel

  606. for the life

  607. of the church here.

  608. To continue

  609. to do what you're doing.

  610. When you meet together

  611. come together

  612. to hear God's word.

  613. To sing God's word.

  614. To celebrate

  615. the truths of God's word.

  616. As you go out

  617. to reach out

  618. to others.

  619. Be fueled by

  620. the love of God

  621. you understand

  622. and know

  623. through the word.

  624. Be fueled by that

  625. as you do

  626. the things you do

  627. like game nights

  628. and ultimate frisbee

  629. and all the different

  630. things you guys do

  631. in reaching out

  632. to others.

  633. It's wonderful

  634. to hear about

  635. and it's wonderful

  636. to hear about

  637. how God is using

  638. you guys in relationships

  639. and I know

  640. those relationships

  641. are driven

  642. in your love

  643. for people

  644. because of the gospel.

  645. It's wonderful

  646. to hear about

  647. things like baptisms.

  648. You guys have had

  649. baptisms already

  650. adding members

  651. and I know

  652. that that's

  653. because the word

  654. of God

  655. is fueling you guys

  656. and driving

  657. you guys.

  658. I know that

  659. he's sustaining you

  660. in your life together.

  661. Your love for one another

  662. through the word.

  663. That there's a quality

  664. among you guys

  665. of care

  666. and love

  667. through the word.

  668. I just want to encourage you

  669. to keep on

  670. looking to the word.

  671. To enjoy and celebrate

  672. what he's doing

  673. his grace at work

  674. in your midst

  675. but to look to his word

  676. filling your minds

  677. and hearts

  678. look to the gospel

  679. of Jesus Christ

  680. to shape you

  681. to animate your hands

  682. and feet

  683. to fill your minds

  684. and your lips

  685. to use you

  686. to touch

  687. the lives

  688. of people

  689. who don't yet

  690. know Christ

  691. and to tell them

  692. the good news.

  693. That's what's going to

  694. be what makes

  695. a difference

  696. in their lives

  697. when they hear

  698. about Jesus.

  699. That's how God

  700. does it.

  701. That's how God

  702. did it in Antioch.

  703. That's how God

  704. continues to do it.

  705. It's through hearing

  706. the word of God

  707. and I trust

  708. that God's going

  709. to give you

  710. new believers.

  711. He's going to give you

  712. new life

  713. as you build

  714. relationships

  715. and as you share

  716. the gospel.

  717. That's the power

  718. of God

  719. for salvation

  720. the gospel.

  721. And so what do you do?

  722. You share the gospel

  723. and then they come

  724. to know the Lord

  725. and then what do you do then?

  726. You share the gospel.

  727. You share the word.

  728. You build them

  729. into the word.

  730. You build the word

  731. into them

  732. so that they grow

  733. and grow in Christ

  734. and grow together

  735. with you as a church.

  736. Colossians 3.16

  737. says let the word

  738. of Christ dwell

  739. in you richly

  740. teaching

  741. and admonishing

  742. one another

  743. in all wisdom

  744. singing psalms

  745. and hymns

  746. and spiritual songs

  747. with thankfulness

  748. in your hearts to God.

  749. Trinity Church

  750. Trinity Cambridge Church

  751. look to the Lord

  752. and his words.

  753. Let the word of Christ

  754. dwell in you richly

  755. as a church.

  756. Don't look to other

  757. strategies for your growth.

  758. Have a great Sunday

  759. worship service

  760. but make sure

  761. the word

  762. is most prominent

  763. in your service.

  764. Sponsor great

  765. community events

  766. but make sure

  767. they are about

  768. living out the word

  769. and looking for

  770. open doors

  771. for the word.

  772. Run excellent programs

  773. but don't rely

  774. on excellence

  775. to reach people.

  776. But the power

  777. of God

  778. through his word

  779. build your church

  780. on the word of God.

  781. A healthy church

  782. is built

  783. on the word of God.

  784. That's how Antioch

  785. built.

  786. Next observation

  787. Antioch

  788. reached

  789. diverse people.

  790. They reached

  791. diverse people.

  792. This church

  793. was comprised

  794. of very diverse people

  795. and it got started

  796. because people

  797. crossed cultural barriers.

  798. Not easy to do that.

  799. But the gospel

  800. has a way

  801. of propelling us

  802. in that doesn't it?

  803. When we know

  804. that God has crossed

  805. an amazing barrier

  806. to come and rescue us.

  807. That he came

  808. and lived among us

  809. and bore our sins.

  810. The God man Jesus

  811. bore my sins,

  812. our sins.

  813. To pay for our sins

  814. so they could be

  815. completely forgiven

  816. and we could be

  817. reconciled and made

  818. one with him,

  819. invited into the

  820. eternal love

  821. of the Trinity.

  822. When we recognize

  823. that and see

  824. that truth

  825. we realize

  826. what great lengths

  827. he's come

  828. to reach to us

  829. and that empowers us

  830. doesn't it?

  831. It compels us

  832. to go and to

  833. step out

  834. and cross cultural

  835. barriers

  836. to reach others.

  837. And that's what

  838. was going on

  839. in Antioch.

  840. the Greek-speaking

  841. Jewish believers

  842. didn't just stick

  843. to their own kind.

  844. They could have.

  845. But the gospel

  846. compelled them

  847. to cross

  848. and to speak

  849. to those

  850. that were Greek,

  851. that were Greek

  852. Gentiles,

  853. not Jewish people.

  854. And others.

  855. And God did something

  856. in bringing people

  857. to himself

  858. in this melting pot

  859. of a city,

  860. by the way.

  861. Antioch was full

  862. of people

  863. from all different

  864. backgrounds.

  865. It really was

  866. a crossroads.

  867. one of the major

  868. cities of the Roman Empire.

  869. And so we read

  870. in Acts 13,

  871. actually,

  872. about the team

  873. that gets formed

  874. and the team itself.

  875. This is the leadership

  876. team for this church

  877. in Antioch.

  878. And it says this,

  879. Now they were in

  880. the church in Antioch,

  881. prophets and teachers,

  882. and then list them.

  883. Barnabas,

  884. Simeon,

  885. who was called Niger,

  886. Lucius of Cyrene,

  887. Menaen,

  888. a lifelong friend

  889. of Herod the Tetrarch,

  890. and Saul.

  891. So you have Barnabas,

  892. he's a Greek-speaking Jew.

  893. He would have been

  894. culturally Greek

  895. in some ways,

  896. but he's still Jewish.

  897. He's from Cyprus.

  898. There's Simeon,

  899. called Niger.

  900. So Simeon was probably

  901. a dark-skinned man,

  902. perhaps from Africa.

  903. You have Lucius

  904. from Cyrene,

  905. that is in North Africa.

  906. And then you have Menaen,

  907. a childhood friend

  908. of Herod.

  909. So this guy is

  910. from the household

  911. of Herod.

  912. I mean,

  913. what a crew!

  914. And then there's Saul

  915. as well,

  916. all together

  917. in this leadership team.

  918. What a diverse

  919. leadership team.

  920. But it really is

  921. a picture of this church,

  922. isn't it?

  923. The picture of the

  924. church in Antioch.

  925. They're reaching

  926. all sorts of people.

  927. They've understood

  928. the implications

  929. of the gospel,

  930. that the gospel

  931. and the commission

  932. our Lord has given us

  933. calls us to go

  934. to all peoples,

  935. to reach people,

  936. to reach out,

  937. to cross cultural barriers.

  938. And so God did

  939. something beautiful

  940. here in this church.

  941. church.

  942. There's a lesson for us.

  943. And this lesson

  944. is different

  945. than what you might hear.

  946. Some of the

  947. conventional thinking

  948. in church growth

  949. and in church planting

  950. is don't do

  951. what we see here

  952. because it just

  953. makes it hard.

  954. Don't do it.

  955. Just go to your own kind.

  956. And there's counsel

  957. even saying

  958. the lead pastor,

  959. like you should expect

  960. that's the sort of people

  961. you should be reaching.

  962. Reach people

  963. like the lead pastor.

  964. I'm so glad

  965. that our church

  966. is not full of people

  967. like me.

  968. I wouldn't want that.

  969. We don't want

  970. to follow that wisdom

  971. but there's that trend

  972. that conventional wisdom

  973. that says,

  974. well, reach out

  975. to your own kind.

  976. It's easiest.

  977. It's easiest to do

  978. church life then.

  979. You don't have to cross

  980. any of the barriers

  981. and so there are churches

  982. actually that are doing that.

  983. They are purposefully

  984. targeting only

  985. a narrow segment.

  986. But oh,

  987. how contradictory

  988. that is to the word of God

  989. and the purposes of God.

  990. God loves to show

  991. the power

  992. of the gospel

  993. in a vivid,

  994. glorious way

  995. by uniting diverse people

  996. and bringing them

  997. into close unity

  998. around the cross.

  999. Doing that in such a way

  1000. that the world looks

  1001. and says there's something

  1002. going on there

  1003. that's really different

  1004. because the world

  1005. doesn't have a formula

1006. to make that work well.

  1007. They're trying different ones

  1008. and none of them

  1009. are going to work.

1010. But there is a formula

  1011. in the gospel.

  1012. God has reconciled us

  1013. to himself

  1014. and in reconciling us

  1015. to himself

  1016. we are reconciled

  1017. to one another.

  1018. We are brought near

  1019. to one another.

1020. No matter who we might be.

  1021. No matter what background

  1022. we might have.

  1023. No matter what ethnicity

  1024. we might have.

  1025. No matter what

  1026. socioeconomic background

  1027. we might have.

  1028. We are brought near

  1029. in Christ.

  1030. We are brought together.

  1031. And it's glorious,

  1032. isn't it?

  1033. Just think in art.

  1034. How do you paint

  1035. a glorious picture?

1036. Do you take a canvas

  1037. that's white

1038. and then a white paintbrush

  1039. and draw a snowman

  1040. and a blizzard?

  1041. Just all white?

1042. No one wants to see

1043. a painting like that, right?

1044. What makes a painting beautiful?

  1045. Diversity.

  1046. Different colors,

  1047. different textures

  1048. on a canvas,

  1049. together.

  1050. This diversity

  1051. put together

  1052. and united

  1053. along some theme, right?

  1054. Some picture

  1055. or some concept.

  1056. There's a theme.

  1057. But it's diversity

  1058. with a central theme.

  1059. That's what beauty is.

  1060. That's what makes art

  1061. beautiful.

  1062. And that's how God

  1063. makes things beautiful.

  1064. That's how he makes

  1065. his church beautiful.

  1066. He takes diversity.

  1067. He takes diverse

  1068. ethnicity

  1069. and backgrounds

  1070. and histories

  1071. and stories

  1072. and brings them

  1073. all together

  1074. in the power

  1075. of the gospel.

  1076. Brings them all together

  1077. on a canvas.

  1078. The central theme

  1079. of Christ

  1080. at the center

  1081. of our lives.

  1082. Rescuing us

  1083. and leading us

1084. in his new kingdom ways.

  1085. That's the picture

  1086. of beauty.

  1087. And it's wonderful

1088. to be here with you guys

  1089. and watch

  1090. what God's doing.

  1091. Bringing diverse folks

  1092. here together.

  1093. There are folks

  1094. in this room

  1095. from diverse

  1096. ethnic backgrounds.

  1097. And I trust

  1098. there'll be

  1099. even more and more.

  1100. It's glorious.

  1101. It's worth

  1102. the effort.

  1103. Yes, it takes effort.

  1104. It's easiest

  1105. just to relate

  1106. to people

1107. who are just like you.

  1108. There's culture

  1109. and ethnic backgrounds

  1110. that we have

  1111. distinct ones

  1112. and it's easiest

  1113. to stay

  1114. with the people

  1115. that you're most like.

  1116. It takes work.

  1117. It takes the power

  1118. of the gospel.

  1119. It forces us

1120. to run to the gospel

  1121. is what it does.

  1122. It makes us uncomfortable

  1123. because we're going

  1124. to be misunderstood

  1125. and we're going

  1126. to misunderstand others.

  1127. We're going to have

  1128. to ask for forgiveness.

  1129. We're going to have

  1130. to admit that maybe

  1131. my culture isn't superior

  1132. in every way

1133. like I thought it was.

  1134. Maybe there's aspects

1135. that I can learn from

  1136. from other cultures

  1137. and other peoples.

  1138. And maybe together

1139. with Christ at the center

1140. we'll all grow in wisdom

1141. and we'll all grow in unity.

  1142. And together

  1143. we will bring glory

  1144. to him.

  1145. Guys,

  1146. you might know this

  1147. but you know

  1148. there are 62

  1149. different languages

  1150. spoken in the homes

1151. of Cambridge public school students.

  1152. 62 different languages.

1153. I'll say them really quickly

1154. starting with the most common

  1155. to the least common.

  1156. English,

  1157. Spanish,

  1158. Creole,

  1159. America,

  1160. Bengali,

  1161. Arabic,

  1162. Mandarin,

  1163. Portuguese,

  1164. Korean,

  1165. Somali,

  1166. French,

  1167. Gujarati,

  1168. Hebrew,

  1169. German,

  1170. Tigrinya,

  1171. Nepali,

  1172. Japanese,

  1173. Tigre,

  1174. Urdu,

  1175. Italian,

  1176. Cape Verdean,

  1177. Hindi,

  1178. Norwegian,

  1179. Russian,

  1180. Tibetan,

  1181. Turkish,

  1182. Swahili,

  1183. Dutch,

  1184. Pashto,

  1185. Vietnamese,

  1186. Albanian,

  1187. Danish,

  1188. Greek,

  1189. Polish,

  1190. Serbo-Croatian,

  1191. Bulgarian,

  1192. Cantonese,

  1193. Swedish,

  1194. Armenian,

  1195. Zonka,

  1196. Tibetan,

  1197. Farsi,

  1198. Punjabi,

  1199. Tamil,

  1200. Catalan,

  1201. Chichua,

  1202. Finnish,

  1203. Hungarian,

  1204. Kiriwandu,

  1205. Macedonian,

  1206. Romanian,

  1207. Slovene,

  1208. Tagalog,

  1209. Telugu,

  1210. Thai,

  1211. Tongan,

  1212. and Tui.

  1213. 62 different languages

  1214. spoken by Cambridge

  1215. public school students

  1216. in their home

1217. and God has put you guys

  1218. right here

1219. in the middle of all that.

  1220. Why?

  1221. Well,

  1222. for many reasons,

1223. but one is to watch the gospel work

  1224. in 62 different cultures

  1225. and ethnicities and more

1226. and watch it draw people together

1227. to be united around Christ,

1228. to love each other deeply from the heart,

  1229. to love Christ supremely

  1230. and to glorify him.

  1231. And I anticipate,

  1232. and I'm sure it's your prayer,

  1233. and if not,

1234. would you make it your prayer?

  1235. God,

1236. would you make our church

  1237. that diverse

  1238. and unified around Christ?

  1239. Would you make us

  1240. that canvas

1241. full of all those colors

  1242. and textures

1243. that paints a beautiful picture

1244. of the power of the gospel

1245. and the glory of God?

1246. That's what went on in Antioch.

  1247. This was a church

  1248. that reached diverse people.

  1249. Next observation is

1250. Antioch lived out the message.

  1251. It wasn't just a message

  1252. they said

  1253. and then didn't do.

  1254. It was a message

  1255. they lived out.

1256. It had gripped their hearts.

  1257. It had changed

  1258. who they are.

  1259. And so it says,

  1260. in Antioch,

  1261. the disciples were first

  1262. called Christians.

  1263. A little phrase,

1264. but it has a lot of meaning.

  1265. They were first called

  1266. Christians there.

  1267. What a fantastic credit

1268. to the believers in Antioch

1269. to be called little Christ,

  1270. followers of Christ.

  1271. And probably at first

1272. it was to tease them.

  1273. You know,

1274. that's what we do sometimes.

  1275. If someone's a follower

  1276. of something,

1277. we add an ite on

  1278. the end of it,

  1279. you know.

  1280. You're a what ite?

  1281. Something.

  1282. A Luddite

  1283. or something like that,

  1284. you know.

  1285. You follow Mr. Ludd,

  1286. whoever that was.

  1287. So we do that.

  1288. That's what's going on here.

  1289. They are being called

  1290. Christians probably

  1291. to tease them.

  1292. But it's because

  1293. they were known

  1294. for being followers

  1295. of Christ.

  1296. It was unmistakable

  1297. that these people

  1298. were followers of Christ.

  1299. There was something

  1300. about them

  1301. that made it obvious

  1302. to their neighbors

  1303. and friends.

  1304. You're a follower

  1305. of Christ,

  1306. aren't you?

1307. You are one of those

  1308. Christians.

  1309. And maybe at first

  1310. it was intended

  1311. to be derogatory,

  1312. but it became

  1313. standard description

1314. for a follower of Christ.

  1315. To this day,

  1316. actually, right?

  1317. When we say

  1318. we're a follower,

  1319. what do we say?

  1320. We say we're a Christian.

1321. It started here in Antioch

  1322. because of the quality

  1323. of their walk,

1324. the quality of their life

  1325. together,

  1326. was distinct enough

  1327. that the culture

  1328. recognized something

  1329. was going on

  1330. and they were called

  1331. Christians.

  1332. There's another example

1333. in the passage as well.

  1334. Agabus

  1335. makes a trip

  1336. to Antioch.

  1337. He's a New Testament

  1338. prophet from Jerusalem

  1339. and he prophesied

  1340. that there would be

  1341. a great famine

  1342. throughout the Roman world.

1343. And the church in Antioch

  1344. responded to that.

  1345. How did they respond?

  1346. What did they do

  1347. when they heard

1348. that there was a famine?

  1349. Wow.

  1350. We're in trouble.

  1351. We better

  1352. fill up our

  1353. cellars with food

  1354. and get ready

  1355. for this thing

  1356. and circle the wagons,

  1357. Antioch,

  1358. right,

  1359. so we can survive

  1360. this thing

  1361. and who cares

  1362. about the rest.

  1363. We just need

1364. to get by on our own.

1365. No, what do they do?

  1366. They determined

  1367. to send a gift

  1368. to the church

  1369. in Jerusalem.

  1370. Their hearts

  1371. are generous,

  1372. gracious hearts

  1373. affected by the gospel,

  1374. affected by the Lord.

  1375. And so they're outward.

1376. And so they give away

  1377. things

  1378. with an approaching famine.

  1379. That's crazy.

  1380. But that's what

  1381. Jesus looks like, right?

  1382. That's what his people

  1383. look like.

  1384. And that's what

  1385. this church looked like.

  1386. They determined

  1387. that they would

  1388. send a gift

  1389. to relieve the brothers

  1390. living in Jerusalem

  1391. because they knew

  1392. that it was especially

  1393. hard for them.

  1394. It was an impoverished

1395. part of the Roman Empire.

  1396. And these were

  1397. their brothers.

  1398. And so they determined

  1399. to send a gift

  1400. down to them.

  1401. They were gracious.

  1402. They were generous.

  1403. Their hearts

  1404. were full of faith

  1405. in God,

  1406. the faithful supplier

  1407. and compassion

  1408. for others.

  1409. That's what

  1410. characterized them.

  1411. And they were

  1412. living out the message.

  1413. Again,

  1414. the gospel

  1415. propels us in this.

  1416. We know the love

  1417. of God

  1418. through Christ.

  1419. And we know

  1420. the compassion

  1421. he's had for us.

  1422. So it empowers us

  1423. and compels us

  1424. to do the same.

  1425. To love God

  1426. and to love others.

  1427. To care about others.

  1428. To give ourselves

  1429. and our resources

  1430. away

  1431. for others.

  1432. And you guys

  1433. are doing that here

  1434. at Trinity Cambridge.

  1435. Cambridge.

  1436. It actually

  1437. looks kind of crazy

  1438. to be doing

  1439. what you guys

  1440. are doing here.

  1441. You guys

  1442. have decided

  1443. to start a church

  1444. in probably

  1445. one of the most

  1446. expensive cities

  1447. in the whole country.

  1448. I actually

  1449. looked it up.

  1450. Boston is like

  1451. number three.

  1452. And I know

  1453. Cambridge is more

  1454. expensive than Boston.

  1455. So you guys

  1456. might be like

  1457. number one

  1458. or number two.

  1459. That's crazy.

1460. Why did you do that?

  1461. Because there's

  1462. people here

  1463. who need to know

  1464. about Jesus.

  1465. And there are

  1466. believers here

1467. who need a good church

  1468. to grow with

  1469. and to serve with.

  1470. You know

  1471. with the culture

  1472. going the way

  1473. it's going

  1474. and going away

  1475. from Christendom

  1476. or from a

  1477. Christian influenced

  1478. culture

  1479. it would have

  1480. made more sense

  1481. just to have

  1482. found a good church

  1483. just to stay

  1484. at King of Grace.

  1485. Circle the wagons.

  1486. Just try to survive

  1487. the storm

  1488. of cultural

  1489. decline.

  1490. Right?

  1491. That makes sense.

  1492. But when we

  1493. understand the gospel

  1494. when we're gripped

1495. by the love of God

  1496. when we love people

  1497. we don't care

  1498. a whole lot

  1499. about our own safety.

  1500. We don't care

  1501. about our comfort

  1502. as much.

  1503. And we're willing

  1504. to go to places

  1505. that are costly.

  1506. Costly in different ways.

  1507. Financially

  1508. or just

  1509. moving from a home

  1510. you've known

  1511. or a church

  1512. you've known.

  1513. We're compelled

  1514. by the gospel.

  1515. We're affected

  1516. just like the people

  1517. in Antioch

  1518. and you guys

  1519. are doing that here

  1520. and it's wonderful.

  1521. It's wonderful

  1522. to watch

  1523. what's happening

  1524. watching you guys

  1525. sacrifice

  1526. and serving

  1527. and giving

  1528. and trusting God

  1529. and laboring

  1530. and loving each other.

  1531. You guys live

  1532. the message

  1533. among yourselves

  1534. as well

  1535. so there's no

  1536. inconsistency here.

  1537. Right?

  1538. There's an integrity.

1539. I can say that for you.

  1540. You might feel awkward

  1541. patting yourselves

  1542. on the back

  1543. but there's an integrity

  1544. here.

  1545. So what started

  1546. you guys

  1547. on this mission

  1548. has sustained you.

  1549. There's a quality

  1550. of love

  1551. for one another

  1552. and a love

  1553. for the community.

  1554. So when you guys

1555. reach out to the community

1556. and you just hang out

  1557. with them

  1558. and you play

  1559. ultimate frisbee

  1560. or invite them

  1561. to games

1562. it's not bait and switch.

  1563. You're just being

  1564. yourselves

  1565. because you

  1566. have been

  1567. compelled by the love

  1568. of God.

  1569. You love one another

  1570. and you love people

  1571. and you're just

  1572. inviting them

  1573. to be a part

1574. to at least observe it

  1575. and then Lord willing

  1576. to join in

  1577. and experience it.

1578. I know this goes on

  1579. in your midst

  1580. and I'm sure

  1581. there's lots of stories

  1582. caring for each other.

  1583. Just this week

  1584. you guys probably know

  1585. Sean and Hannah

1586. got in a very serious accident.

  1587. I found out

  1588. during the week.

  1589. I was actually texting

  1590. Sean about some

1591. this I think this time

1592. and he let me know

  1593. like wow

  1594. forget about

1595. what you need to do.

  1596. I'm glad you guys

  1597. are okay.

  1598. So they're okay.

  1599. A highway accident

  1600. just miraculous

  1601. that you guys

  1602. weren't hurt

  1603. so thank God

  1604. for that.

  1605. But then your care

  1606. hearing about the care

  1607. for them in that.

  1608. Someone drove down

  1609. to pick them up

  1610. somewhere down

  1611. in Connecticut

  1612. wherever you guys were

  1613. Sturbridge

  1614. Omas

  1615. okay

  1616. almost Connecticut

  1617. to pick them up

1618. to bring them back here

1619. and then just the care

  1620. and the care

1621. I know in other situations

  1622. making meals

  1623. for each other

  1624. loving each other

  1625. walking through sorrow

  1626. and trial together

  1627. there's a sincerity

  1628. there's a love

  1629. there's a living out

  1630. of the message

  1631. that's going on here

  1632. and it's glorious

  1633. and it's like Antioch

  1634. and I just want

  1635. to say that

  1636. to encourage you guys

1637. to encourage you in it

1638. to keep up the good work

  1639. to keep walking

  1640. in these things

  1641. to keep living

  1642. like Antioch

  1643. more and more.

  1644. A couple more observations

  1645. real quickly

  1646. and then we'll finish.

  1647. Antioch developed

1648. and sent their very best.

1649. Part of the storyline here

1650. is that they developed leaders

  1651. they developed leaders

  1652. and they deployed leaders.

  1653. They developed

  1654. some really great leaders

  1655. real diverse leaders

  1656. but good leaders

1657. this is a healthy church

  1658. full of good leaders

  1659. it's got Barnabas

  1660. and Saul

  1661. in the church

  1662. and again

1663. it would have made sense

  1664. just to kind of

  1665. circle the wagons

  1666. let's just kind of

  1667. keep on building up

  1668. our leaders here

1669. make a really strong leadership

  1670. but no

  1671. they send out

  1672. their very best

  1673. the Spirit of God

  1674. actually speaks to them

  1675. and says do it

  1676. you better do it

1677. when he speaks that way

  1678. but they send out

  1679. their best

  1680. they deploy leaders

1681. it says in Acts 13

  1682. while they were

  1683. worshiping the Lord

  1684. and fasting

  1685. the Holy Spirit said

  1686. set apart for me

  1687. Barnabas and Saul

  1688. for the work

1689. to which I have called them

  1690. then after fasting

  1691. and praying

  1692. they laid their hands

  1693. on them

  1694. and sent them off

  1695. so being sent out

  1696. by the Holy Spirit

  1697. they went down

  1698. to Seleucia

  1699. and from there

  1700. they sailed to Cyprus

  1701. and then they went

  1702. with their team

  1703. Barnabas and Saul

  1704. John Mark

  1705. probably others

  1706. on the team

  1707. they went

  1708. throughout the Roman Empire

  1709. and planted churches

  1710. and changed the world

  1711. as a result

  1712. this is a church

  1713. that developed leaders

  1714. for the health

  1715. of their own church

1716. but also to deploy them

  1717. there's a lesson here

  1718. in Antioch

1719. and I know this is

  1720. in your heart

  1721. to be a church

  1722. that develops leaders

  1723. and it's just great

1724. to hear so early on

  1725. in your church life

  1726. actually

  1727. it's amazing

  1728. it's amazing

  1729. and it's unusual

  1730. that God is

  1731. raising up leaders

  1732. here

  1733. you guys have

  1734. three small groups

  1735. and leaders

  1736. for your small groups

  1737. at this early stage

  1738. fantastic

  1739. I know that

  1740. there's a leadership team

  1741. and future elders

  1742. being raised up

  1743. I know there's

  1744. a number of deacons

  1745. male and female deacons

  1746. being raised up

  1747. to lead things here

  1748. that's great

  1749. for the stage

  1750. of your church life

  1751. to have that happening

  1752. is wonderful

  1753. and so keep on

  1754. doing that

  1755. keep on celebrating

  1756. the grace of God

  1757. keep on being

1758. a church that does that

  1759. I would trust

  1760. that God would

  1761. use you guys

  1762. as a leader

  1763. factory

  1764. but not just

  1765. for your own good

  1766. but to send out

  1767. your very best

  1768. when the time comes

  1769. to send out

  1770. your very best

  1771. when the time comes

  1772. I would

  1773. trust that God

  1774. would

  1775. even in the next

  1776. five years

  1777. send out a church

  1778. plant through

  1779. Trinity Cambridge

  1780. maybe your first step

  1781. is just something

  1782. nearby

  1783. somewhere in

  1784. Boston itself

  1785. Boston

  1786. another part of

  1787. Cambridge

  1788. around here

  1789. somewhere

  1790. so that would be

  1791. maybe your first one

  1792. and if you just

1793. dream with me a little

1794. bit if I can do that

  1795. with you

  1796. maybe your second

  1797. one

  1798. is to some place

  1799. where there is no

  1800. church at all

  1801. some place in the

  1802. world that's

  1803. under

  1804. under

  1805. unreached

  1806. and unengaged

  1807. there's 3,000

  1808. people groups

  1809. out there

  1810. that are

  1811. not only

  1812. unreached

  1813. but they're

  1814. unengaged

  1815. so they're

  1816. another category

  1817. and what I mean

  1818. by unengaged

  1819. there's no

  1820. church there

  1821. there's unreached

  1822. people that are

  1823. not effectively

  1824. reached

  1825. but that have

  1826. believers working

  1827. there

  1828. but there are

  1829. 3,000 groups

  1830. 3,000 different

  1831. ethnic groups

  1832. in the world

  1833. unreached

  1834. and unengaged

  1835. and there are

  1836. great cities

  1837. throughout the world

  1838. that have hardly

  1839. any Christian witness

  1840. so maybe your

  1841. second plan

  1842. from the leaders

  1843. you raise up here

  1844. would be to send

  1845. them to one of

  1846. those places

  1847. to be like

  1848. Antioch

  1849. to watch God

  1850. do what he did

  1851. in Antioch

  1852. true Trinity

  1853. Cambridge

  1854. finally

  1855. Antioch was a

  1856. church that

  1857. experienced the

  1858. grace of God

  1859. this is the most

  1860. important thing I

  1861. want to leave you

  1862. with

  1863. they experienced

  1864. the grace of

  1865. God

  1866. all these other

  1867. things were

  1868. happening ultimately

  1869. because God

  1870. chose to pour

  1871. out his

  1872. glorious

  1873. divine favor

  1874. his undeserved

  1875. favor on

  1876. this city

  1877. and its people

  1878. God is a God

  1879. full of grace

  1880. and mercy

  1881. he's a gracious

  1882. God who's at

  1883. work

  1884. and he loves

  1885. to rescue

  1886. undeserving

  1887. sinners

  1888. he loves to

  1889. bring them

  1890. near and bring

  1891. them near to

  1892. each other

  1893. he loves to

  1894. put them in

  1895. a body

  1896. and cause that

  1897. body to shine

  1898. for the glory

  1899. of Christ

  1900. and to enjoy

  1901. all the blessings

  1902. of life in

  1903. Christ

  1904. God

  1905. had been

  1906. gracious

  1907. it says

  1908. here that

  1909. Barnabas

  1910. came and

  1911. people heard

  1912. the church

  1913. in Jerusalem

  1914. heard about

  1915. what was

  1916. going on

  1917. and it says

  1918. the hand

  1919. of the Lord

  1920. was with

  1921. them

  1922. and then

  1923. Barnabas

  1924. was sent

  1925. and it says

  1926. when he came

  1927. and saw

  1928. the grace

  1929. of God

  1930. he was

  1931. glad

  1932. Barnabas

  1933. came and

  1934. he observed

  1935. what was

  1936. going on

  1937. the church

  1938. in Jerusalem

  1939. was saying

  1940. what's

  1941. happening

  1942. we don't

  1943. know how

  1944. to handle

  1945. this

  1946. there are

  1947. Greek

  1948. people

  1949. coming to

  1950. Christ

  1951. there's

  1952. a church

  1953. being formed

  1954. there in

  1955. Antioch

  1956. what's up

  1957. with that

  1958. so they send

  1959. Barnabas

  1960. Barnabas

  1961. he's at

  1962. work here

  1963. and he

  1964. celebrates

  1965. that

  1966. and he

  1967. serves

  1968. that

  1969. what God

  1970. is doing

  1971. through his

  1972. grace

  1973. there's

  1974. grace

  1975. God's grace

  1976. is being

  1977. poured out

  1978. his mercy

  1979. and kindness

  1980. and nearness

  1981. have been

  1982. poured out

  1983. on this

  1984. church

  1985. and that's

  1986. what

  1987. makes all

  1988. the difference

  1989. in Antioch

  1990. and guys

  1991. that's what

  1992. makes all

  1993. the difference

  1994. here

  1995. in Trinity

  1996. Cambridge

  1997. ultimately

  1998. all the things

  1999. that you're

  2000. seeing that

  2001. are good

  2002. all the things

  2003. that you're

  2004. experiencing

  2005. that are

  2006. good

  2007. all the

  2008. things

  2009. that you're

  2010. investing

  2011. in

  2012. that are

  2013. good

  2014. all

  2015. are

  2016. driven

  2017. by the

  2018. amazing

  2019. sovereign

  2020. grace

  2021. of God

  2022. God is

  2023. at work

  2024. you didn't

  2025. bring God

  2026. to East

  2027. Cambridge

  2028. God brought

  2029. you to

  2030. East

  2031. Cambridge

  2032. he was

  2033. already

  2034. here

  2035. he was

  2036. already

  2037. here

  2038. among

  2039. his

  2040. people

  2041. that

  2042. were

  2043. living

  2044. here

  2045. and

  2046. probably

  2047. praying

  2048. oh

  2049. God

  2050. would

  2051. you

  2052. reach

  2053. East

  2054. Cambridge

  2055. more

  2056. and

  2057. more

  2058. just

  2059. hearing

  2060. from

  2061. a couple

  2062. this morning

  2063. about that

  2064. they're praying

  2065. this is an

  2066. answer to

  2067. prayer

  2068. there are

  2069. others

  2070. praying

  2071. God

  2072. would

  2073. you

  2074. do

  2075. this

  2076. God

  2077. was

  2078. already

  2079. at work

  2080. among

  2081. people

  2082. and preparing

  2083. their hearts

  2084. there's

  2085. people out

  2086. there

  2087. you don't

  2088. you have

  2089. no idea

  2090. what's

  2091. going on

  2092. in their

  2093. lives

  2094. but God's

  2095. at work

  2096. and he's

  2097. preparing

  2098. them

  2099. and they're

  2100. going to

  2101. walk

  2102. in here

  2103. one day

  2104. or you're

  2105. going to

  2106. walk into

  2107. their house

  2108. one day

  2109. as a

  2110. friend

  2111. and then

  2112. you're

  2113. going to

  2114. watch

  2115. what God

  2116. does

  2117. his grace

  2118. is at

  2119. work

  2120. his grace

  2121. has been

  2122. at work

  2123. so

  2124. Trinity

  2125. Cambridge

  2126. live in

  2127. that place

  2128. of enjoying

  2129. and celebrating

  2130. and anticipating

  2131. his grace

  2132. take time

  2133. as you walk

  2134. along to be

  2135. like Barnabas

  2136. to look

  2137. around

  2138. and see

  2139. the grace

  2140. of God

  2141. at work

  2142. and to

  2143. celebrate

  2144. it

  2145. I really

  2146. enjoyed

  2147. doing that

  2148. with you

  2149. and just

  2150. watching

  2151. I was

  2152. here

  2153. helping

  2154. to move

  2155. in

  2156. I did

  2157. my little

  2158. part

  2159. to help

  2160. move in

  2161. the Woos

  2162. and the Millers

  2163. back in

  2164. summer of

  2165. 2015

  2166. right

  2167. August

  2168. 2015

  2169. and

  2170. it's just

  2171. a little

  2172. crew

  2173. that got

  2174. started

  2175. here

  2176. a little

  2177. crew

  2178. with a lot

  2179. of faith

  2180. and a big

  2181. God

  2182. wondering

  2183. oh Lord

  2184. you better

  2185. show up

  2186. and here

  2187. you are

  2188. here you

  2189. are in

  2190. this wonderful

  2191. place to

  2192. meet

  2193. wonderful

  2194. blessing

  2195. to have

  2196. a place

  2197. like this

  2198. and anywhere

  2199. and to have

  2200. it in the city

  2201. and have it

  2202. be affordable

  2203. I mean that's

  2204. just a miracle

  2205. story

  2206. and here you

  2207. are

  2208. I know

  2209. very few

  2210. of you

  2211. God has

  2212. brought you

  2213. guys here

  2214. together

  2215. and you're

  2216. operating as a

  2217. church together

  2218. that's grace

  2219. that's his

  2220. grace at

  2221. work

  2222. he is

  2223. working here

  2224. he's been

  2225. working throughout

  2226. his church

  2227. throughout time

  2228. he worked in

  2229. Antioch

  2230. he's working

  2231. in you

  2232. it's the

  2233. grace of

  2234. God

  2235. that makes

  2236. all the

  2237. difference

  2238. well these

  2239. are just

  2240. some lessons

  2241. from the

  2242. church in

  2243. Antioch

  2244. things to

  2245. learn from

  2246. things to

  2247. set the

  2248. course of

  2249. our lives

  2250. and our

  2251. church life

  2252. on

  2253. and ways

  2254. to remember

  2255. to celebrate

  2256. God's

  2257. amazing grace

  2258. let's pray

  2259. Lord thank

  2260. you

  2261. thank you

  2262. for the

  2263. church in

  2264. Antioch

  2265. thank you

  2266. for this

  2267. model church

  2268. the things

  2269. to learn

  2270. thank you

  2271. for what

  2272. you're doing

  2273. here in

  2274. this church

  2275. Trinity

  2276. Cambridge

  2277. we give

  2278. you praise

  2279. and we give

  2280. you thanks

  2281. oh Lord

  2282. and we say

  2283. Lord we want

  2284. more of you

  2285. and more of

  2286. your grace

  2287. bless this

  2288. body to be

  2289. brought close

  2290. together

  2291. through the

  2292. power of

  2293. your word

  2294. Lord

  2295. through you

  2296. working

  2297. bring them

  2298. together

  2299. and make

  2300. them shine

  2301. add diverse

  2302. people

  2303. Lord we pray

  2304. that there be

  2305. even the next

  2306. year more

  2307. of those 62

  2308. language groups

  2309. represented here

  2310. and more and

  2311. more brought in

  2312. pour out your

  2313. grace and then

  2314. use them Lord

  2315. to reach this

  2316. area and to

  2317. reach beyond

  2318. this area as

  2319. well

  2320. you are a God

  2321. full of

  2322. glorious grace

  2323. and we thank you

  2324. for all that you're

  2325. doing and ask

  2326. these things in

  2327. Christ's name

  2328. amen

  2329. thank you

  2330. going to

  2331. you

  2332. so

  2333. Thank you.

  2334. Thank you.

  2335. Thank you.

  2336. Thank you.

  2337. Thank you.

  2338. Thank you.

  2339. Thank you.

  2340. Thank you.

  2341. Thank you.

  2342. Thank you.

  2343. Thank you.

  2344. Thank you.

  2345. Thank you.

  2346. Thank you.

  2347. Thank you.

  2348. Thank you.

  2349. Thank you.

  2350. Thank you.

  2351. Thank you.

  2352. Thank you.

  2353. Thank you.

  2354. Thank you.

  2355. Thank you.

  2356. Thank you.

  2357. Thank you.
