The Cup Of Salvation

Praise the Lord everyone, welcome to Glory's Way Church livestream tonight.

I am Claire Bunrock.

I am one of the associate pastors here in the church, but I'm here to share the word with you tonight, and my dad is and my parents are blessed tonight, so we just thank you for your continued prayers, for their strength, that they're doing great.

I have a just a full heart of the word tonight that I want to share with you, and so let's get right on into it.

About the cup of salvation that's our title for tonight the cup of salvation.

I saw that Kelly Martin is watching us.

I saw some hearts from charay homes.

Kelly said she's been looking forward to this all day.

So, kelly, I know God has something for you tonight.

But let's dig in and talk about the cup of salvation, and I'm going to start out in a weird place tonight because this is the way God gave it to me, and yesterday I was just in the word and John 18, and we're going to start reading in verse 10.

It says then Simon Peter, having a sword, drew it and struck the high priest servant and cut off his right ear Y'all remember the context of this right Because Jesus had been praying in the garden of Gethsemane.

He had been sweating great drops of blood with the sacrifice he knew he was about to make for you and for me, and he had been in prayer.

And now Judas had betrayed him and he was about to get carried away to the judgment.

And so Peter slices the ear of the high priest servant and Jesus said to Peter verse 11, put your sword into the sheath.

Shall I not drink the cup which my father has given me?

Remember that.

Shall I not drink the cup that my father has given me?

So that gave me chills, because instantly I realized that God gave Jesus a cup of wrath, he gave him a cup of judgment, he gave him a cup of trembling, he gave him a cup of suffering that I was supposed to drink, that you were supposed to drink that cup.

But Jesus drank that cup for us, god gave it to him and he drank all of it for you and for me.

And so it reminded me, of course, of Psalm 23,.

He anoints my head with oil.

My cup runs over.

And then, in Psalm 116, verse 12, it says what shall I render to the Lord for all his benefits toward me?

Psalms 116:12

I will take up the cup of salvation.

I will take up the cup of salvation and call upon the name of the Lord.

So Jesus took a cup of judgment, of suffering, of poverty, of death, and we took a cup of welfare and life.

And actually, let's look into that.

When we say cup of salvation, if you look up that word salvation in the Hebrew, this is what it means.

It literally means welfare, prosperity, deliverance, salvation by God.

In other words, god is personally overseeing all of these benefits toward you.

He is over, he is with you and overseeing the benefits himself.

And also, finally, victory, victory.

That's the cup of salvation that we have.

And Jesus, first of all, let's look into what Jesus took.

He took the opposite of all of that.

So when he was on the cross, he, of course he took on physical suffering.

Isaiah 53 said he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities.

The testisement of our peace was upon him and by his stripes we are healed.

So that idea of identification and substitution he identified with our weakness, with our suffering, with our sin, with our complete lack of all righteousness.

He identified with that, he took on our weaknesses and then he substituted himself for them and he acted as our substitute on the cross, taking our suffering, taking our pain, taking our judgment and the wrath of God.

That was really right, fully meant for us, but he took that upon himself so that we wouldn't have to and so that we can fully identify with his divinity and we can take and substitute ourselves for him in ruling and reigning in glory with him when we act on in his word and in his will.

Isn't that awesome?

It's awesome what Jesus has done for us.

So let's never forget that, and I'm going to take a little side trip for a minute.

You know, brother Wiseman was here last Thursday night at prayer and many of you were actually were here praying with us.

It was awesome.

We really did more listening to this man of God talk about prayer than we did actually praying this night, but it was so rich, it was so good and just that idea that that that God is.

We shouldn't forget what he's done for us, that Israel, the children of Israel, that some people say two or even three million Jews came out of bondage in Egypt after Moses and the burning bush and he led them through the Red Sea.

There were two to three million Jews coming out of bondage and they were headed to the Promised Land, but how many Jews actually reached the destination?

How many of them followed God all the way through?

How many of them actually made it?

Two, not even in Moses himself, but Joshua and Caleb were the only two of all the children of Israel that made it into the Promised Land.

So maybe that's not great odds, but you and me can be some of the people who make it in.

How can we?

Well, one thing it said, and Brother Weismann was talking about this.

He was saying you know, they forgot the wonders they experienced.

They had these wonderful experiences with God, but then they forgot Uh, with they, they, they did not.

And even though every day they had manna, every day they saw the pillar of fire by night and the cloud by day, every day they had shoes that didn't wear out.

Every day was a exciting miracle with God.

And even if we have such an exciting walk with God that we have an exciting, spectacular miracle every day, they still did not trust his law, the word said, and they did not remember his works.

And so let's remember what Jesus did.

So that's part of it tonight is just remembering what Jesus did for us, remembering that cup of suffering that he took so that we won't have to take that cup, we can take the cup of salvation.

Amen and so, um.

So what's the opposite of salvation?

And what Jesus took?

Uh, if you just take the opposite, you take physical suffering, you take bondage.

He did not get to do what he wanted.

He had to yield himself to what looked like the will of the enemy.

It looked like the devil was in charge of Jesus.

It looked like the devil got to do anything he wanted to Jesus upon that cross.

He got to mock him, spit upon him, use people to disparage Jesus and his mission and to come against who, the very nature of who he is.

You're not the son of God.

If you were the son of God, you would come down from that cross.

So, uh, so all of that ridicule, uh, god, jesus took upon our, he took our poverty upon that cross.

Upon the cross, um, the favor of God that had been on his life turned into absolute, uh, disgust.

God could not stand to look on the visit of Jesus.

Jesus who had been, uh, completely one with God all through eternity past, who had enjoyed sweet communion and fellowship with God every day of his human existence, but on that day when Jesus took our sin.

God could not look at him and Jesus had to cry out my God, my God, why have you forsaken me?

Why have you forsaken me?

So Jesus had to drink that cup for us.

He had to drink that cup of of God's uh, of God's wrath and in God's judgment, and he had to drink that cup of defeat.

It looked like he lost and the devil won, and the devil was already gloating and the devil had to drag him down into hell for us.

But we know what happened.

We know that Jesus did not stay there.

We know that Jesus completely turned that around.

And so that's what.

When we are going through whatever you're going through tonight, whatever it looks like is so insurmountable to you, whatever it looks like is completely impossible with man.

I want you to remember the wonders of God.

I want you to remember that cup that Jesus drank for you so that you would never have to drink of those things and so that you could always drink from the cup of salvation.

And I just want to quickly talk about that other that.

One last thing about the cup of wrath.

There are many places in the Old Testament where God would talk about judgment in a cup.

Isaiah 51-17 talks about how Jerusalem had been drinking out of that cup and he didn't want him to drink from that cup anymore, but they had drunk, at the hand of the Lord, the cup of his fury.

You have drunk the dregs of the cup of trembling and drained it out.

You know there are people in that condition today that have just.

They have lived apart from God's law, they have spat upon what God has done and their whole entire thought is there is no God all day long.

And they are beginning to drink of that cup of judgment and it makes them crazy.

Jeremiah 51-17 says a Babylon has a golden cup in the Lord's hand that has made all the earth drunken and the nations have drunken her wine.

Therefore, the nations are crazy, they're mad, they're crazy.

So there is just a craziness, there is an absolute.

I believe that's what we're seeing today.

And in Jeremiah 25, jeremiah the prophet was actually given the assignment to take a cup.

He said make all the nations of the earth drink of this one cup and it's gonna make them stagger and real and it's gonna make them crazy.

He says take this, the wine of the cup of my fury from my hand and cause all the nations to whom I send you to drink it, they will drink.

They will drink and stagger and go mad because of the sword that I will send among them.

So craziness, war, just anger, I know that is.

And in fact, revelation then takes that same idea and Babylon the harlot is actually drinking that cup, again in Revelation 14.

And you can look that up, but I don't wanna focus on that tonight.

But I want you to know that judgment looks like confusion, it looks like chaos, it looks like crazy.

And so when I look around the world right now, I don't know about you, but I see a lot of people drinking of that cup, and it's a cup of reeling, of trembling, of crazy, and so that's what we're seeing.

So don't be alarmed, because that is not your cup, that is not your cup.

God has a way, better cup for you.

And in Psalm 14, I'm sorry, in 16, four, it says there sorrow shall be multiplied.

Who hasten after another guy.

And I tell you what, where the people of the world say there is no God, they we know that they're lying, because there is one God in heaven.

But beyond that, every heart of man worships.

Let me say that again.

Every heart worships.

They worship something, and if it's not the true God, then it is themselves and their own pride, and the lust of their heart is what they worship.

That's a lot of people.

That's a lot of people who worship themselves, who worship other people or who worship demon powers and false gods, and so their sorrows, it says here in the word, shall be multiplied, and it says their drink, offerings of blood I will not offer.

I'm not gonna drink of that cup, I'm not gonna touch that stuff, I'm not even gonna take up their names on my lips.

You know, there are just certain false gods and names that I don't wanna even speak them.

I don't want their.

I don't wanna give them any lip service at all.

I would rather just talk about the Lord, jesus Christ, and because there's power in His name and I would never wanna give any.

You know, when we see a school shooting, for example, I like this trend.

I've seen a lot of media outlets now who refuse to share the name of that evil person who committed that act.

They should not get fame for that.

So I'm totally with that.

Don't even take up their names on my lips, I'm not even gonna talk about that.

Then it says in verse five oh Lord, you are the portion of my inheritance and my cup, god himself.

He wants you to drink so deeply of His presence.

He wants to be your cup.

And then it says God, you maintain my lot or my.

You know they would cast lots.

They would cast a dice, throw dice to see what they would get in their inheritance.

Who got what thing?

I'm telling you, god maintains what you get.

He maintains all of your stuff and what you have coming to you.

The lines have fallen to me in pleasant places.

You know God's drawing your boundaries and it's somewhere good.

He has got a portion for you that he wants you to enjoy.

And it says, yes, I have a good inheritance, so I don't care what your daddy left you or didn't leave you, or what your mommy left you or didn't leave you.

I don't care if there is an all out war in your family because somebody died and nobody can figure out how to divide up mama's house or mama's jewelry drawer or whatever it is.

You know what.

You have a good inheritance and it's from your Father, god in heaven.

The lines have fallen to you in pleasant places and he is the portion of your inheritance and your cup.

Amen, you can say that.

And so God wants us to drink of the cup of salvation.

And let me just remind you one of the best reminders every time we take communion and we take communion here and church together, because it's a symbol of unity in the body of Christ.

But you can take communion where you are at home and in any time when you're praying and when you just want to feel close to the Lord, you can get.

We used to call it chips and juice when I was a little kid Little.

You know the little wafers and turds and we would have chips and juice.

But in 1 Corinthians 11, it says Paul says I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus.

On the same night which he was betrayed, that very night he knew he was about to drink the cup of judgment.

He already offered a cup of salvation to his disciples and so he said when he took, he took bread and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said take, eat.

This is my body which is broken for you.

Do this in remembrance of me, and that's another message I would love to teach you on the bread of life, the bread of Jesus' body.

But tonight we're focusing on verse 25.

This says in the same manner, he also took the cup after supper, saying this cup is the new covenant of my blood.

This do as often as you drink it in remembrance of me, for as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes Every time you have communion.

But beyond that, communion is an outward symbol of an inward covenant.

And when we are partaking of that covenant, we can do that every day, whether we have the physical elements in our hands or whether we're actually eating and drinking those or not.

We are partaking of the covenant and Jesus never wants to forget us, to forget that.

And when we do that every time, we are proclaiming the Lord's death until he comes again.

Why would that be good to proclaim his death?

Because every time we are reminded of his death, of that cup of suffering he took, we will not let it go to waste and we are reminded, instead of our life that we have that's hidden in him, and it's a wonderful.

The lines have fallen to us in pleasant places, hallelujah.

And so we ought to proclaim that.

We ought to proclaim that with everything we do we ought to take that cup of salvation.

And so what exactly is in that cup?

I'm just gonna encourage you for a minute.

I'm just gonna encourage you.

Let me, just for a minute, let's talk about it.

Let's break down that cup of salvation.

Let's break down those words Again.

We've got welfare and we talked about how, by his stripes we are healed.

We have.

I mean, he wants something good, beloved.

I pray above all things for third John two that you may prosper and be in health, even as your soul prospers.

In other words, you're gonna have welfare.

You're gonna have welfare, and it doesn't come from the government check, it comes from God Almighty.

He cares for your wellbeing, for your spirit, soul and body to be nourished, to be thriving.

He wants that.

That is part of your cup, that is your inheritance and your cup to have welfare, to have prosperity.

In second Corinthians eight nine let's just go there and read it it says ooh, second Corinthians eight nine talks about.

It says now you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that you, through his poverty, might be become rich, might become rich, might become rich.

He wants you, but you gotta drink the cup.

You have to drink the cup and you can't have any pride when you drink this cup, cause it's too precious, it's too awesome.

We could never earn this cup.

It is too good.

Jesus earned this cup.

He earned the cup of salvation, but instead he traded with us and he took ours.

I hope y'all are getting that tonight.

He earned that cup of salvation so we don't have to earn it.

He gave it to us as a free gift and so there's no pride when we take it.

But there sure is love, there sure is gratefulness, there sure is thanksgiving.

Praise God almighty for his grace, for his indescribable gift that he gave to us.

So we are drinking of the welfare of God, we are drinking of the prosperity that Jesus poured out.

We are drinking from the deliverance.

That's another word that salvation means deliverance.

We have been delivered out of the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of light.

We have been set free from the power of sin and death.

We have been set free, and John 832 says you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free.

And then it says he whom the sun sets free is free indeed.

So you don't ever have to go back as long as you keep walking in the truth, that you know about what Jesus really did for you on the cross, what really happened there.

As long as you're walking in that truth, you will always be free and the devil will never, ever again be able to bind you and hold you down, because you have deliverance that is truly from God.

You have welfare, you have prosperity, you have deliverance.

And then it says salvation by God.

In other words, god personally oversees your salvation.

He is personally there with you.

The presence of God is with you.

The presence of God had to turn away from Jesus on the cross, but the presence of God turns toward you and me.

What an awesome thing to even imagine.

Why did we, how can we be worthy?

Because Jesus, jesus, made us worthy to come boldly into the throne of grace.

In Hebrews 13.5, it says that he will never leave us or forsake us.

He will never leave us or forsake us.

He forsook his own son, but he will not forsake us.

He will never leave or forsake us.

In Proverbs 18.24, he is called the friend that sticks closer than a brother, the friend that sticks closer than a brother.

He is there with us at all times.

Boy, my mom liked to quote the first part of that scripture.

I'm going to read you the whole part of the scripture.

Proverbs 18.24 actually says he that has friends must show himself friendly.

But there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.

In other words, if you want to be popular, you got to actually go out there and you have to be a good friend to other people before they're going to flock to you.

And my mom used to quote that to me as a child.

If I had a nickel for every time she quoted that I would be a red, and I am.

Thank you Lord, I have a good inheritance, but anyway, I'm just saying it would be a big pile of nickels because my mom liked to tell me if I would ever be mopey about this person didn't invite me or I'm not doing anything on Friday night and I wish I would.

Well, he that would have friends must show himself friendly.

Well, you can do all of those things and you can be a good friend to other people, but whether it did or did not work today, there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.

His name is Jesus and he's never going to leave you or forsake you.

He is personally there to oversee your salvation.

And then in Acts 17, paul is talking to the Athenians and he is trying to win them over.

These are really brainy, the School of Athens.

They were just really philosophical there and they had all their theories about different gods and everything.

And Paul was telling them look, he's as close as a breath of your mouth.

And he says in Acts 17, 28,.

In him we live and move and have our being.

Not only does he never leave you or forsake you, but we live in him.

We're in a bubble.

Some of us moms, how many of you have ever wanted to put your child in a bubble?

I just want to put my child in a bubble.

Well, that's good, let's put him in the God bubble.

In him we live and move and have our entire being happens in God, in Christ.

What a safe and awesome place.

The world can come back to you in a million different ways, but we are in God.

Nothing shall by any means harm us, amen.

And so he is there with us and in us and we're in him.

And then, finally, the cup of salvation definitely includes victory, and 2 Corinthians 2, 14 says thanks be to God, who always, always, always causes us to triumph, always, always, always causes us to triumph.

And Romans 8, it says that all things work together for good to those who love him and are called according to his purpose.

All things always causes us to triumph.

All things work together.

But, clarey, you don't know what I'm going through.

It hurts so bad.

I never thought I'd be.

I never thought this would happen to me.

I never thought my life would end up here.

I never, never, never owe it.

So I know, I know that thing, and the devil would like for it to you to just wear that, and he would like, just like he would have liked to just kept Jesus on the cross forever.

But I want you to know Jesus did not stay on the cross forever and you will not stay in this situation forever.

God is already at work to turn it around for you, just like Jesus rose from the dead.

Do you believe Jesus rose from the dead?

Then you've got to hold on to the word of God.

You've got to hold on.

Just hold on, because God, he is turning it around for you.

We know it will work out for good, for your good amen, and he knows how to win a battle.

I love.

I love what David, we talk about David and Goliath, the David and Goliath story.

Here's a young teenage boy that manages to slay this nine foot behemoth, blasphemous giant that comes against Israel.

And when David was talking he said then I'm going to take you down.

Basically, in a verse, 47, 1 Samuel, 17, 47, david says then all this assembly shall know that the Lord does not save with sword and spear, for the battle is the Lord's and he will give you into our hands.

I'm telling you.

He always causes us to triumph.

The battle is the Lord's.

Stop trying to wear all of the weight of it.

Yes, he will cause you to act, your faith, he will have something for you to do in this battle, but he is fighting it through you, and so just let him rest in that.

Amen, rest in that and keep drinking your cup.

And so just one little word on that.

How you know?

How do I drink?

Well, I, for some reason.

Our Sunday night services are awesome little drinking services.

Sometime they just turn out like that.

We can drink of the salvation and the cup of salvation by remembering the things that he's done and by thanking God, by praise and Thanksgiving and worship, by singing.

Ephesians 5, 17 says don't be drunk with wine, wherein as excess, but be filled with the spirit, be being filled.

Be always and continually, habitually filled with the spirit, speaking to yourselves in Psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, there's a cup.

You know, people in the world are looking for something to drink.

They are not happy unless there is a drink in their hand.

I'm telling you and college students today, they like to have a drink in their hand, but God said don't, do, don't be drunk with that wine.

That wine is excessive and beyond that.

So he says instead of drinking that wine, I want you to drink in my spirit.

I want you to be filled all the time with the Holy Spirit because, in other words, that effect that it has on your life, the joy that you get from the spirit, is gonna be better than any joy you can get from the wine of this world.

And in fact, the wine of this world will dull your spiritual senses, will make you numb to the things of God, will put a veil and a wall of sin between you and your heavenly Father and will separate you from that.

Even if you repent, you know you'll have to.

The effects of it have to wear off and it's hard on your body.

Don't even go.

I'm telling you, this is a time.

There was a time when people could play around and they could be kind of on the fence and the devil didn't hate him that bad and maybe things would work out in their lives.

But we're just not in that time in history anymore.

We've gotta choose our sides all the way.

And for me in mind, I can tell you because I saw what alcohol did in my family and I saw my wonderful, sweet dad.

I love my dad and y'all know I love my daddy and y'all love him too.

Thank you for loving him with me.

I'll share him with you.

But when I was seven years old, I saw him get saved and I saw him completely give up alcohol and I saw the wonderful transformation it made in my family and I know it saved my mom and my dad's marriage.

I know it did, I know it and I just I saw the transformation in him.

I saw the way it just changed our whole family and I can just tell you from me in mind, I made a decision that I mean we.

There is no alcohol in my house Now.

I'll cook with it.

I like to cause.

I like it tastes good, y'all, it tastes really good.

I'll cook with it, but I will not drink.

I will not drink of that cup.

I will drink of the cup of salvation.

I will drink of the cup of the Holy Ghost, cause he's so good and he's been so good to me and there's no sorrow that comes with that cup.

And so I know different people have a different conscience based on that.

But I'd rather honor your conscience of the weakest one among you.

It is not worth it to me to take one sip of it, and so that's my position on it.

But I just wanna.

I just wanna.

There's a cup of the new covenant and it is awesome.

You should try that, it's way better.

And then another thing in 1 Corinthians 10, 10, 21, I just wanna ask you cause, so what's in your cup?

Are you drinking of the cup of the salvation or are we mixing some other things in there?

And because in 1 Corinthians 10, 21, it says Paul's debating, you know, should you or should you not eat food or drink drinks that were offered to idols?

Because obviously in that timeframe and in the city of Corinthia there were lots of different idol worshiping people and cultures.

And so in the Christian culture it was real hard.

Like man, your neighbor was over there.

They were celebrating their pagan festival, they were eating food that had been offered to idols, they were drinking, they were having a party, and hey, why don't you come over to our Halloween party?

You know I love you, neighbor, but I'm not coming to your Halloween party cause I don't celebrate that Anyway.

So there were pagan festivals that were literally going on in that time, and so it said there's not, you know, an idol.

It's not anything.

An idol is just a made up thing.

Paul's saying.

So what is offered to idol is it's just another made up thing.

So rather that the things which the Gentiles sacrificed, sacrificed to demons and not to God.

And I do not want you to have fellowship with demons.

You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons.

You can't partake of the Lord's table and the table of demons.

Or do we provoke the Lord to jealousy?

Are we stronger than he?

So, in other words, make sure your cup is all Jesus, make sure your cup is all God, because there are demonic influences in this world and we enter just sometimes, we just naively step on step into those things and we let those things defile our cup.

Hypocrisy is the thing that defiles your cup.

Speaking of cups, you know, jesus said to the Pharisees you are like a whitewash.

You're like a cup that's clean on the outside, looks real shiny, looks real good on the outside, but inside is full of dead men's.

Well, that's anyway.

Inside is full of rot, of junk, of disgusting.

I mean you got algae growing in there.

One time in the church office refrigerator y'all I didn't check the date on the iced tea there had been a gallon of tea that had been left over from a church fellowship, like two months ago.

It was back in the back of the fridge and I found it.

My kids were at the office with me it was probably the summertime y'all and I poured them a cup of tea from the church office fridge.

But now we cleaned it out very red.

We learned from this, we learned from this.

But I poured them a cup of tea and I just set that right there and Thea drank it.

Oh, mom.

And then there was like something float, y'all.

It was floating in there.

There was a piece of algae in there.

So that was bad.

That was bad that there was algae in the tea and she has never let me live it down.

But I will tell you that we've got to watch that our cup is not mixed with old stuff, that we've got to clean the inside of our cup.

Hypocrisy, saying one thing and doing another thing in private that is not as honorable.

That will defile our cup.

So let's make sure our cup is clean and pure.

That God is.

That we're just drinking from nothing but the Holy Ghost, nothing but the cup of salvation.

The cup of salvation is awesome and it is a great way to live, and so I just want to encourage you with that tonight and praise God, I have anything less than the full cup of salvation, amen.

So all right, well, family, healthy, off, welfare, prosperity, deliverance, victory, victory.
