So please get your Bibles out and pick them up and wave them around with all of us here in the sanctuary and we're going to get into the Word of God together.
-
Say Heavenly Father, I'm so glad to be here today.
-
I'm hungry for more of understanding of the Word of God.
-
My faith is built on hearing and hearing.
-
I have ears to hear what the Spirit has in store for me.
-
Today I'm making adjustments in my receiver.
-
I'm moving forward over every obstacle in my life.
-
I have the victory in Jesus' name.
-
Amen.
-
You can be seated and let's turn in our Bibles.
-
We've got a couple places for you.
-
Acts, seated and let's turn in our Bibles.
-
We've got a couple places for you.
-
Acts, the 26th chapter in Hebrews 13.
-
We'll start with the book of Acts.
-
Thank God for the book of Acts.
-
Somebody said the book of Acts was written because the apostles acted.
-
They didn't just sit around and dream.
-
All right.
-
Acts 26.
-
I'll tell you.
-
I'm going to back up to verse 19,.
-
Acts 26, 19.
-
And he's addressing King Agrippa.
-
This is the Roman Empire he's talking to and you know he had talked to Festus and now Festus has just taken over for Felix and he was the governor.
-
So you know, god had led him into great influence, even though he's a prisoner.
-
He got to speak before kings and that's exactly what Jesus told him when he got saved, and he said verse 19, whereupon, o king Agrippa, I was not disobedient unto the heavenly vision.
-
He had just shared his testimony on that road to Damascus.
-
He shared his testimony how he got saved to the king.
-
I have not been a disobedient unto the heavenly vision, but I've showed first under them, at Damascus and at Jerusalem and throughout all the coasts of Judea, and to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God and do works meet or worthy of repentance.
-
In other words, you can't just keep living the same old life.
-
You've got to repent.
-
That's the gospel.
-
This old Jesus gets you business and you just keep remaining like you are.
-
Well, that's a bunch of baloney.
-
You have to be changed.
-
You have to turn away from sin.
-
Amen.
-
It's called repentance.
-
Now.
-
This is his message.
-
And for these causes the Jews caught me in the temple and went about to kill me.
-
Now this is good news for a lot of people, but for people who don't want to change, they want to kill you.
-
They still want to kill Jews.
-
Same group Still want to kill.
-
Having therefore obtained help of God, I continue unto this day, witnessing both the small and great, saying none of the things that those which the prophets and Moses did say should come, and I like the amplified it says.
-
This day I've had the help which comes from God as my ally day.
-
I've had the help which comes from God as my ally.
-
I've had the help which comes from God as my ally Boy.
-
I like the way that sounds.
-
And then in Hebrews 13, hallelujah verse, hallelujah, verse 5.
-
Second part of verse 5.
-
For he has said I shall never leave you nor forsake you, so that we may boldly say the Lord is my helper, I shall not fear what man will do unto me.
-
And so today I just wanted to share a simple message, but a profound message, on the Holy Helper.
-
The Holy Ghost is our Holy Helper.
-
Praise God, this day I have obtained that means it doesn't fall on your head.
-
You know you're not going to sit under the tree and have it hit you on top of the head.
-
You've got to obtain it by how, by faith.
-
You have to receive it.
-
See, we've been talking about receiving.
-
The word receive there in Mark 11, 24 means take with a hand.
-
So you've got help.
-
Help is available, praise God.
-
And then Paul said I continue.
-
I have not let these threats stop me from doing what I'm supposed to do.
-
I didn't go into the inner sanctum, lock the door, our security, no, I'm out here.
-
I'm witnessing to both small and the great.
-
I continue to preach and teach and write epistles.
-
Oh, glory to God.
-
The threats of man could not stop Paul.
-
Why?
-
Because he knew how to get a hold of the holy helper.
-
He knew how to function in the help that God, as his ally, had given him.
-
And you know Festus, you know the governor.
-
He said Paul, you are mad.
-
He had a hard heart, didn't he?
-
He didn't receive any of what was going on.
-
Well, we're going to have those kind of people.
-
They're going to spit in your face.
-
But then you've got Agrippa, king Agrippa.
-
He said almost, persuadest thou to be a Christian I mean, he was just on the edge, almost.
-
And Paul said almost Almost.
-
I want something more than almost.
-
So does God?
-
In other words, god, he's not pleased with almost this ain't horseshoes, almost.
-
So does God.
-
In other words, god, he's not pleased with almost this ain't horseshoes.
-
Oh, come on, lift your hand.
-
Glory to God, we've got to help.
-
Notice when you need help that help is available and who doesn't need help from time to time.
-
Who doesn't need help?
-
I like Hebrews 4, 16,.
-
Therefore, come boldly there's that word again Come boldly to the throne of grace to obtain mercy, to obtain chesed.
-
The mercy there is not just poor baby pat you on the head, no, it's, it's hesed, it's covenant kindness, it's covenant obligation.
-
God cannot not help you.
-
Glory to God, it's available, it's been bought and paid for.
-
To obtain mercy and find the grace to help.
-
Come boldly to the throne of grace.
-
I listened to Jerry Savelle the other night.
-
Last message he preached on earth.
-
He's preaching in heaven now.
-
One of my favorite preachers.
-
I love Jerry Savelle.
-
I've heard him a number of times in person.
-
He now One of my favorite preachers.
-
I love Jerry Savelle.
-
I've heard him a number of times in person.
-
He's just one of my favorite preachers and you know, kind of young to go to heaven.
-
It was sudden, I don't know what happened, but it doesn't matter, he's in heaven.
-
But his last message he was talking about grace.
-
Favor, oh favor, was his message.
-
I mean he knew how to preach on favor If you, if you wanted to get encouraged, you just sit in a Jerry Savelle meeting and I mean you're going to get, you're going to get that giant killer come, you're going to leave his meeting feeling dangerous.
-
But now he's gone.
-
Glory to God.
-
I know his family's carrying on, lord, bless them real good right now, need your help and there's help available for them.
-
Hallelujah, come boldly to the throne of grace.
-
Grace in the amplified he was saying the other night, just the other night.
-
I mean he was preaching one night and went to heaven the next morning.
-
Boom, nobody knew he was headed there that quick.
-
They weren't planning on it.
-
But he said, everywhere in the Amplified it says grace, it says unmerited favor, and that's grace is that's one definition unmerited favor.
-
You can obtain unmerited favor.
-
Grace is the divine influence upon the heart when you need help.
-
I mean God can electrify, he can illuminate you.
-
I should say he can illuminate you with his knowledge and his help.
-
And not only that.
-
He can move on the hearts of those who are opposing you.
-
He can move on the hearts of those who can help you navigate the water you're in, because we're not all experts of everything, but we know who is an expert, the Holy Ghost.
-
So it said come boldly, see boldly and confidently.
-
So it said come boldly, see boldly and confidently.
-
You know Hebrews 13, 6 says so that we may boldly say the Lord's my helper, I shall not fear what man will do unto me.
-
So the holy helper responds to holy boldness.
-
You know the righteous are as bold as a lion.
-
Glory to God.
-
You can get bold when you know what belongs to you.
-
In John 14, 16, on the night before Jesus was crucified, he shared with his disciples some information on the Holy Spirit.
-
And you know they didn't have a whole lot of knowledge about the Holy Spirit.
-
It was the Holy Spirit that anointed them to heal the sick and cleanse the lepers.
-
Jesus said you know, freely you receive, freely give, go out and do what I've done.
-
And the 12 went out and did it.
-
They cast out devils, healed the sick.
-
Said you go into a town, they don't receive.
-
You, shake the dust off and move on to the ripe harvest.
-
Don't be wasting time on people that are, you know, got their ears plugged up.
-
There's lots of people like that.
-
We don't have to spend a lot of time with them when you just your job is just to get in the in the witness chair and proclaim what God has done for you.
-
We're all witnesses with evidence, supernatural evidence.
-
But not everybody's going to believe you, not everybody's going to receive you.
-
You've got to understand that.
-
Don't take it personal when people grit their teeth at you.
-
Just move on, because there's somebody that needs what you've got.
-
And so he said you know, it's really better for I.
-
You know you're sad tonight, but it's better for you that I go away.
-
It's better for you that I go away, because if I don't go away the father won't send the comforter.
-
But if I go away the father will send another comforter.
-
Another means identical comforter.
-
To me I'm a comforter, but he's going to send another comforter who's going to live and abide with you forever and he shall be in you.
-
He says later they shall be in you Even the spirit of truth which the world cannot receive.
-
So the world can't receive help from the Holy Helper as an ally, because he's not their ally.
-
All this baloney about we're all the children of God no, we're not all the children of God.
-
We're all the creation of God.
-
But we're not the children of God except through the new birth.
-
That's the only way to be a child of God.
-
Jesus made that very plain.
-
But he starts talking about the comforter, which is a poor translation in the King James of the Greek word that Jesus used paraclete, paracletos.
-
And the Amplified goes on and it gives you some indications of some of the meanings of that Greek word counselor, helper, intercessor, advocate, strengthener, standby.
-
All those are very accurate.
-
But really the most important of all those, and really the greatest one of those, is helper.
-
He's your helper, he's your helper and he lives in us forever.
-
So whatever help you need is on the inside.
-
Learn to look to the inside first when you need help.
-
That's worth the price of admission today.
-
How many you have to pay to get in the door?
-
Nobody, we don't charge admission, but anyway.
-
No, learn to look to the inside for the help, because he's there, he's the, he's the paraclete, he's the paraclete, he's the helper, he's the holy helper.
-
I like in verse 18 in the Amplified John 14,.
-
He said we're not orphans.
-
He did not leave you orphans.
-
He did not leave you comfortless, desolate, bereaved, forlorn, helpless.
-
If any of those words fits your emotional state, then you need to change right now.
-
Flip the switch and change that, because that's not God, that's not boldness.
-
Well, I'm sad because?
-
Well, quit being sad and look beyond the sad, because you tap into the helper, he will help you.
-
Those kind of emotional feelings are destructive, not constructive.
-
Some people feel all alone.
-
I mean, you know when you are married and you know Carolyn Savelle, she's going to have to overcome that feeling of loneliness.
-
Her partner 50 some odd year, however long they were married, probably 50 some odd years.
-
Gladys and I will be 56 this next June and your partner goes to heaven and you're left behind.
-
Well, you're tempted to be forlorn, you're tempted to be lonely, but you don't have to grieve, you don't have to have that sadness, you don't have to have that desolation.
-
No, because you've got help on the inside.
-
Oh, hallelujah, and we just pray that Carolyn accesses that.
-
I know my sister-in-law, sylvia.
-
She accessed that grace, she accessed that supernatural comfort.
-
I mean you know her husband, my brother went to heaven and I mean you know it wasn't easy watching that happen.
-
But you know what?
-
She's just doing.
-
Great Glory to God.
-
I mean you know some she's just doing great Glory to God.
-
I mean you know some people just feel like they've got to just grieve and they've got to.
-
You know, go through all of this mess.
-
No, that's all the natural.
-
No, the supernatural, see, the Holy Helper gives us a supernatural help.
-
We have.
-
We have God as our ally.
-
I like the word ally, alliance, just another word for covenant.
-
I'll tell you, america is slipping as an ally.
-
We're allying with the wrong people and we're letting Israel twist in the wind.
-
This fool in the White House has actually decided to sanction a unit of the Israeli defense forces, and they happen to be the unit that is real religious.
-
They don't serve everywhere because of Sabbath and all of that.
-
So there's a controversy in Israel.
-
Because, I mean, you know they and I don't know what in the world.
-
He's going to sanction them over.
-
Probably they didn't bow and scrape to some Palestinian somewhere.
-
Probably they did something, something bad to a Koran.
-
If I had my guess, I'll bet you anything.
-
They, they were accused of burning a Koran.
-
See, that's what they do over there.
-
They lie through their teeth Every day.
-
They lie, lie, lie, lie, lie.
-
And here we've got our State Department.
-
Blinken is over there and he's going to sanction them.
-
We'll baloney on you.
-
I can't wait to kick you out.
-
We're going to have a massive change.
-
We're going to have a massive change.
-
We're going to have a massive change.
-
The church is going to show up.
-
The church is going to show up in November.
-
I mean, the church is waking up to this mess that we have Every day.
-
It's something he's panicking.
-
He's writing, he's writing all these executive orders.
-
None of them are going to be upheld.
-
They're all going to get undone in the first day.
-
But I'm talking about allies.
-
Thank God we've got the most high God as an ally and he lives right here.
-
I mean, you don't have to go very far.
-
Well, I just don't have any friends.
-
Well, you've got one right in here.
-
Oh, glory to God.
-
I like what PC Nelson, you know, brother Mark Hankins gave us this a few years ago and it's just exceptional.
-
Pc Nelson was a Greek scholar, assembly of God, theologian, and he said the word paraclete, the Greek word paraclete describes the Holy Spirit as having exceptional knowledge, and we would think that, wouldn't we?
-
He's God, he knows it all.
-
He has expertise in protocol and procedure.
-
See, I don't know that.
-
I would have thought that.
-
But that's kind of cool part of paraclete.
-
It's kind of part of being a counselor or an attorney, an expert in protocol and procedure and then having and possessing persuasive speaking ability.
-
I've seen people, just normal people, and they get under the influence of the Holy Ghost and the next thing they start speaking and they start.
-
I mean you can just feel the anointing coming out of their mouth.
-
I mean the whole atmosphere changed by the words that they speak.
-
I mean you just go, wow, there's nobody can persuade like the Holy Ghost, and he lives right in here.
-
But then, on the other hand, you know he's able to have, by grace that you believe him for travel and get on somebody that's going to help you that has these characteristics.
-
It doesn't have to be you God can use people to help you, but it's supernatural.
-
Are y'all with me now?
-
So obtaining holy help from the holy helper?
-
That is supernatural, help reserved for the righteous.
-
The world doesn't have access to this help.
-
The Lord bringeth Psalm 33,.
-
The Lord bringeth the counsel of the heathen to naught, but the counsel of the Lord standeth forever.
-
Glory to God.
-
Obtaining help, holy help from the holy helper?
-
All right, the first one's obvious Mark 11, 24,.
-
Believe you receive when you ask Really.
-
I mean you get highly developed in this.
-
You don't even have to ask, you just claim it, you appropriate it because it's yours all the time.
-
I mean, he's there to help you.
-
You don't even have to ask him.
-
You can if you want to.
-
It's not wrong to ask for help, but I'm telling you, when you just claim the help, thank God I've got help from from.
-
God is my ally.
-
I'm allied with the most high God and he lives on the inside of me.
-
Hallelujah, boldly say the Lord is my helper.
-
I shall not fear what man will do unto me.
-
That's really it, every situation we find ourselves in when we really need help.
-
When you boil it all down, it's usually some situation where people are involved and you're tempted to be afraid.
-
It can be that way in health.
-
You're afraid of the report, the health report that you're going to the doctor for.
-
You've got symptoms and now they're going to run a test and you're kind of edgy about the report.
-
Well, he's your helper, hallelujah.
-
I got tickled at Betty Miller Wave at us, betty.
-
Betty had a fall the other day and she hit her head on the coffee table and she bled real bad.
-
And we got Andrea to let us know at the office and I got a text and I said you know the very first thing I saw with the text oh, it's not as bad as it looks.
-
That's what I say I, every time we get any kind of report out here that you have health wise or anything else, I, oh, it's not as bad as it looks.
-
Not as bad as it looks.
-
I just say that every time.
-
And she said she hadn't even gotten, she hadn't even hit her head and fell on the floor until she heard me say it's not as bad as it looks.
-
And so she said that and you know she's no worse for where you can't even tell she had a fall.
-
Now she's got staples in there and they're going to come out of there in a few days.
-
But I mean she's doing just fine because it wasn't as bad as it looked.
-
That's what I said about Brother Travis.
-
You know he had a procedure and the doctors were trying to get him to accept a stroke.
-
I said, oh, it's not as bad as it looked.
-
And he's here, he's doing just fine, moving about Getting stronger every day, every day gets sweeter, every day gets sweeter, every day gets better.
-
Oh, the holy helper.
-
I mean you just praise God even before you see the help manifest.
-
He loves to work behind the scenes.
-
I got a verse here in James, chapter 1, verse 5.
-
And I want to read it to you and it's in the Message Bible.
-
In James 1, verse 5, it says If you don't know what you're doing, pray to the Father.
-
Have you ever not known what you were doing?
-
Oh, y'all are so proud.
-
You're not.
-
No one has ever been that way.
-
I mean, I would.
-
I've raised my feet along with my hands, but I'd fall down.
-
If you don't know what you're doing, pray to the father.
-
He loves to help.
-
You'll get his help and won't be condescended to when you ask for it.
-
Isn't that good?
-
He's not going to look down his nose just because you're asking for help.
-
He's going to give you help.
-
Ask boldly, believingly, without a second thought.
-
People who worry their prayers are like wind whipped waves.
-
Don't think you're going to get anything from the master that way, adrift at sea, keeping all your options open.
-
Isn't that good?
-
Glory to God.
-
You ask for help, just boldly confess you have it, you believe you receive it you.
-
You don't have to see it yet, you don't even have to know in your mind what the help is yet.
-
But you know it's activated.
-
It's activated.
-
Everybody say he's activating my help.
-
Glory to God, woo.
-
Psalm 46, 1,.
-
God is a very present help in time of trouble.
-
You got trouble, he's got help.
-
I like Psalm 40, 17 and Psalm 70, verse verse 5.
-
God is my help and my deliverer.
-
Make no tarrying, oh my God, and he won't.
-
No, he won't tarry, he won't delay, he immediately gets to work, he immediately releases the grace to help you.
-
The divine influence upon the heart, the unmerited favor, is released the moment you ask or claim Come on, lift your hand right now.
-
Glory to God, see, when you know what belongs to you, you're never a victim.
-
You're never going to spend days under the bed hiding All right.
-
The second thing see, believe you've received when you ask.
-
Second thing is do something for God to get involved with.
-
You have to take action.
-
Take action Now.
-
The first action is your words, but that's not the only action.
-
There's other action.
-
What is faith anyway?
-
Faith, the simple definition of faith, is acting, like the Bible is true.
-
I mean, if the Bible is true and you have help, then you ought to start doing something for him to help you with.
-
Well, yeah, but, pastor, I don't know what to do.
-
Well, do something lest you do nothing.
-
Do something, lest you do nothing.
-
Do something lest you do nothing.
-
Well, what if it's the wrong thing?
-
Well then you'll know very shortly and you'll stop doing the thing that you started to do and you'll turn around and get back, and God will.
-
You're going to find God's plan, but you're not going to find it sitting at the dock.
-
You're not going to, you're not going to be in the parking space at the mall with a motor running and you're turning your wheel like this.
-
You're not going to go anywhere and you're not turning the car right.
-
What do you got?
-
You got to get moving.
-
So get moving, do something for God to give you help with.
-
I think about Paul and Silas.
-
I mean, they were on their second missionary journey.
-
You know, paul and Barnabas were going to go and they had a blowup.
-
They fell out of fellowship with one another, and so Barnabas took John Mark and went somewhere, and you never hear anything else about Barnabas again.
-
But then Paul saw this and then they just said okay, well, we're going to go on this missionary journey.
-
Where should we go?
-
And they assayed to go into Bithynia.
-
They made plans and they prepared themselves to go into Bithynia, but the spirit suffered them, not, see they.
-
They started to do something and the Holy ghost put the, put the stop to it.
-
The spirit suffered them, not, not Bithynia, no, no, no, see, you start to do something.
-
You, your peace can dry up, you, your witness will evaporate and you'll know okay, this is not what I need to do.
-
Okay, what do I need to do?
-
Well, I'm going to do something, lest I do nothing.
-
And really it's not that hard folks, the people that perish are the ones that just sit still and wait.
-
No, don't do that.
-
Still and wait, no, don't do that.
-
And then you know so that he put the brakes on Bithynia.
-
And so they, uh, they said, okay, well, what about Asia minor?
-
You know, that's a good, that's a good idea.
-
Asia minor needs what we've got.
-
Let's go to Asia minor.
-
And they were forbidden of the Holy ghost to preach the word in Asia minor.
-
And so then, after that, see, they had two attempts at moving and God said no, both times Did they turn around and go home?
-
Well, I guess it's not God's time.
-
No, they kept that, they kept in prayer, they kept before the Lord.
-
And the Lord granted that dream of the Macedonian man.
-
Come over here and help us.
-
Glory to God.
-
And they got the jailer saved and God invaded the earthquake.
-
The devil tried to kill them there, but they had the help of their God as their ally, oh hallelujah.
-
I think about 2 Kings 7, where Samaria was besieged by been hated in the Syrian army.
-
The same people still hate Israel today.
-
They're still besieging Israel.
-
They had attacked Samaria and Samaria was under military lockdown.
-
They couldn't get food in.
-
They couldn't get, you know, they couldn't get supplies.
-
They had a famine and they were starving.
-
And four lepers were there at the gate and they said why sit we here till we die?
-
If we stay here, we're going to die.
-
If we go back in the city, we'll surely die because we're lepers and they're going to stone us.
-
If we go out here to the Syrians, they might save us alive.
-
If they kill us, then we just die.
-
How spiritual does that sound?
-
Save us alive?
-
If they kill us, then we just die.
-
That would be.
-
You know, they just did it.
-
How spiritual does that sound?
-
Does that sound really heavily spiritual?
-
It sounds like a bunch of reasoning to me, doesn't it to you?
-
And yet they went to Syrian, they went into the Syrian camp and all the camp had been abandoned.
-
Every soldier had left his jewels, his gold, his silver, his raiment, their food.
-
Man, I, man, give me that can of peaches.
-
Man, I'm, oh man, I can't.
-
I don't know if they had a can of peaches, but anyway, if you hadn't had anything to drink or eat for a while, it'd be pretty good to start with.
-
They got fed, they dug a hole and buried all the treasure, and then they thought you know what, if we keep doing this?
-
This is a night of good tidings.
-
We've got to go share the good tidings with all the people that would have stoned us, and they did.
-
They went and shared the good tidings with Israel, and they came out there and spoiled the camp of the Syrians.
-
I mean, god had sent the sound of chariots and horses.
-
It had scared them all the way back to Syria, and then, when Ben-Hadid got back there, he got killed by his own kids.
-
See, god knows how to deal with your enemies.
-
You gotta do something.
-
You gotta do something.
-
Praise God, don't just sit there.
-
Romans 8, 26,.
-
The Spirit himself helpeth our infirmities.
-
The word helpeth there means to take hold, together with against.
-
So then, we've got to take hold of something We've got to do something, get do something for God to get involved with.
-
Now I have a testimony along these lines is back when we were at lakewood.
-
I was a lay preacher, kind of the mc of the services.
-
I open and close services and prayer.
-
Sometimes I took the offering and and, uh, you know it was, it was an honorable position and all that good stuff.
-
But I mean, you know, we I was building in west university and and we just having a lot of financial issues and just we, just you know it's living from hand to mouth, I mean just barely enough income to pay the bills, you know, and if any wrinkles come along, well, then you're kind of behind.
-
And so we had gone out to eat one Sunday after church.
-
Claire was at A&M and just the three of us.
-
Jay was still at home, of course, in high school, and Gladys fell in the parking lot, broke her kneecap, her left knee, broke it clean into, and I took her to the emergency room.
-
Of course we prayed, but I mean it just was broken in two and so we took her to the emergency room.
-
And so that's a clean break.
-
It's going to heal just fine.
-
You'll just have to go to the orthopedic surgeon.
-
They're going to wire it together, probably, and let it heal and then they'll go second surgery, will go in and remove the the wire.
-
She'll have two knee surgeries.
-
And he gave us a referral to a orthopedic guy in Tombo and so I said, well, doctor, we're Christians, we believe in healing, divine healing, and I said we're going to believe God for her healing.
-
First I said how long do we have before surgery would be, you know, not a good idea.
-
He said, well, you know, those bones are going to try to grow back together and they're going to start sending little feelers toward each other and when they do that, then the bone is not going to fit back together like it does.
-
He said it fits perfectly right now.
-
Perfect, it's clean.
-
But he said you know, if you go very long, that is going to be interrupted.
-
Then you'll have difficulty with the surgery and it won't be strong.
-
It'll get it back together, but it won't be strong.
-
I said, well, how long?
-
He said well, about two to three weeks.
-
And so we gave it that much time and she did have to have the surgery.
-
That whole thing is another testimony I don't have time for this morning, but the bottom line is she had to have surgery and we had no insurance.
-
So I need what?
-
Help, god?
-
I need help.
-
How are we going to pay this?
-
What in the world are we going to do?
-
I mean, this is two surgeries.
-
And he just put in my heart to go back and look at the scene of the accident and just look.
-
And I did.
-
And I looked at the curb and it was way higher than it should be.
-
I measured it it was eight and a quarter inches, I think something like that.
-
And that's not code.
-
Code is not eight and a quarter inches for any step.
-
And it wasn't painted yellow, it just blended in with the, with the, with the concrete on the pavement parking lot.
-
So when she came out of the restaurant, it was dark in there, came out into the bright, it was a cloudy day, but it was a bright, cloudy day and and she was squinting and she just stepped off and stumbled off of there and hit all of her weight on her left knee and so I thought you know, they've got insurance.
-
I'm going to approach them for an insurance claim.
-
So I went back inside, talked to the manager.
-
He remembered and said man, I feel so bad for your wife.
-
I just hated that.
-
I said, well, we want to file a claim on the insurance company.
-
He said, well, my insurance company won't cover it because my insurance ends with the front door.
-
My insurance company won't cover it because my insurance ends with the front door, it's going to be the owner of the center.
-
Oh, okay, well, thank you, I appreciate it.
-
He said, you know, and so I looked up the owner and I called and I found the insurance company for the owner and the insurance company had an office in Greens Point in one of those big buildings.
-
I called and I got an appointment with Gladys and I.
-
We went and met with the girl.
-
I told her what we had, she gave me a number to call and I went through the process.
-
In the meantime, you know, we'd had to pay the emergency room.
-
Now the surgery's coming up, we're having of dollars and we didn't have it.
-
I don't even remember how we paid it, but we went in.
-
I didn't have a credit card.
-
Put it on credit card.
-
Well, I didn't have one.
-
All my credit was gone.
-
This is the depression of the 80s, still spilling over into the early 90s.
-
I'm just telling you Do I need help, do I look like I need help, and I did so.
-
I just kept on and finally, you know, we had the surgery and the insurance company dribbled out a little bit of money, kind of helped us stay going.
-
And uh, they got a little and it was just like pulling teeth to get anything out of them.
-
I had to just make copies of everything.
-
I didn't send them pictures of the curb, I sent them the whole.
-
I mean, I, you know, did everything I could do and it just got to the end where they still hadn't paid very much.
-
So I went to the Lord.
-
I said, lord, I'm going to.
-
I didn't want to sue them, I didn't want to have to do that, but I'm going to have to hire an attorney and I have no idea this.
-
This town is full of attorneys, don't know who, who to hire.
-
Who can I hire?
-
I need you to help me.
-
That night I had a dream, as God is my witness.
-
That very night I wish I'd have prayed like that to begin with.
-
Sometimes, you know, we just don't.
-
God has, you know, mercy on dumb animals, but anyway, we don't know what we're doing.
-
We don't know what we're doing.
-
We don't know what we're doing all the time.
-
So anyway, he let me struggle with it, you know, kind of like the disciples struggling on the lake and he's walking right past you.
-
And so I struggled with it, came up short.
-
So I had this dream and in the dream I'm jogging, which I never do, jogging in West University Place where I built houses.
-
I had a house being built right then at that time.
-
I'm jogging down the road, you know, and not feeling good.
-
I hate jogging, anyway.
-
So then I look up at the street sign and I was conscious that Kirby Drive was over to my right in the dream and I didn't want to get to Kirby Drive, you know, because you don't want to jog on Kirby.
-
And so I looked at this street sign.
-
It said Cruz C-R-U-Z.
-
Cruz Street.
-
Where is that?
-
I never heard of Cruz Street and I thought, well, I'll just turn left.
-
And I turned left down Cruz Street and immediately turned into an alley which turned into a tunnel.
-
It was dark as that back there and there was an ATM machine on the walls of this tunnel with a video screen on it.
-
It's a Cruz Street ATM video screen.
-
Have you been injured in an accident?
-
Contact David blah, blah blah and the blah, blah and the rest of it was mush.
-
I couldn't hear the rest of it.
-
All I heard was David.
-
I woke up and the only thing that I found out of that whole dream was David Cruz, and I mean, my hands were trembling, they were sweating.
-
I'm thinking, is that my attorney's name?
-
How many of you remember Yellow Pages?
-
See, this is before Google.
-
Okay, we didn't have the internet, we didn't have Google, we didn't have.
-
And so I went to and we had two sets of Yellow Pages.
-
That's how big it had gotten.
-
It had gotten this big, and then it wasn't big enough.
-
So then they gave you two volumes of yellow pages.
-
So the first volume was A for attorneys.
-
I looked, I pulled that out I don't know how many thousand attorneys are in the yellow pages and I'm thinking, oh, david Cruz, david Cruz, is he going to be in here?
-
See, I still couldn't hardly believe it.
-
I went down there, ccc, cruz, david, and he was the only one.
-
David Cruz phone number Southwest Freeway address.
-
Call the number.
-
Can I please speak with David Cruz's secretary, please?
-
Yes, just hold.
-
Hello.
-
This is Officer David Cruz, thank you, is David Cruz.
-
Does he happen to be a personal injury attorney?
-
Yes, and as a matter of fact he is.
-
I said my wife and I would like to come see him.
-
We're interested in having him represent us on a matter that we have.
-
All okay, and she gave me a date about a week later and Gladys and I showed up.
-
We drove up to the office big, high rise building right on the Southwest freeway.
-
I got ushered into his office on about the 10th floor, big corner office with corner windows, and I look out his windows as we were ushered in and I see West U and I almost could see the house that I was building.
-
No, I just started laughing.
-
I mean, I know he thought what's wrong with this guy.
-
He's laughing and I just it was just hilarious.
-
I mean I had a dream about Westview and the attorney's right there and I sit down and see he starts asking about us and everything he said well, before we get into the facts, and everything that what you're you know need said.
-
Well, before we get into the facts and everything that what you're you know need.
-
I'd just like to know how is it that you chose me to represent you in this matter?
-
And of course, I smiled ear to ear.
-
You know I couldn't help myself.
-
I'm still laughing about where his office is and I can see my, my house right over almost not quite, but I can see.
-
I said well, do you really want to know?
-
And he looked at me and said well, yeah, yeah, I really want to know.
-
I said okay.
-
Then I told him my dream and I said so.
-
The basic answer to your question is the Holy Ghost gave me your name.
-
His eyes filled with tears and his had a lump in his throat and he said I believe in this.
-
I believe in this.
-
He said when I was a child.
-
I believe in this.
-
He said when I was a child, my mother would send me to the little grocer.
-
They didn't have big grocery stores, they had these little grocery places, little old places, and she'd send me to get milk or eggs or bread or whatever.
-
Put it on the tab.
-
Anybody ever buy groceries like that?
-
When you were small I mean, he's five years old and his mother sent him to the grocery store to pick up a little thing and he'd put it on the tab.
-
And he said that man was so sweet to me, he'd give me candy sometimes.
-
He would always pay attention to me and one night I had a dream that he had died.
-
And so mother said I need milk, I want you to go to Mr So-and-so's store and get some milk.
-
He said he's dead.
-
What, what do you mean?
-
He's dead?
-
Well, I had a dream and in the dream he's dead.
-
Oh, that's okay, just go ahead and go.
-
And when he went, the store was closed and he said God used that to soften the blow.
-
I would have been so shocked, but he let me know that he loved me enough to give me advance warning to tell me.
-
He said so, I believe what happened and I mean you know that was my attorney, I mean that Gladys, I mean it was really Gladys's attorney and it was her injury.
-
And you know he, he got the insurance company to pay all that money that they're supposed to pay.
-
Plus, you know we got a settlement, we got a nice check.
-
I mean it wasn't huge, it's low five figures, it's $15,000.
-
I'll just tell you how much it was, which was like $15 million to us because we didn't have it.
-
I mean it just kind of caught us up with all the bills that we had still had, some outstanding medical bills we couldn't pay.
-
Oh, I tell you, glory to God, he helps you when you do something.
-
You've got to take action.
-
There's help waiting for you.
-
The Holy Ghost is your ally, so tap into his help with faith and action.
-
Lay hold on the Holy Helper.
-
Come on, lift your hands and receive hallelujah.
-
Come on, let's rejoice this morning.
-
Hallelujah, thank God, we've got help.
-
It's holy help reserved for the righteous.
