  1. I have the privilege of introducing a guest preacher this morning.

  2. His name is Warren Betcher, and he's here with his wife Kim here in the front.

  3. And Warren is the lead pastor of Southern Rich Church of New Jersey in Marlton.

  4. And he also serves as the regional leader of our foundation.

  5. So he's the leader of our Northeast region.

  6. So he's really visiting us in that capacity to serve us, encourage us.

  7. And he also serves at the national level on the executive committee of the Southern Rich Churches.

  8. So he's wearing many hats, but he does it well faithfully.

  9. And Warren and Kim are really, as a couple, one of the godbiest and most humble people I know.

  10. And really look up to them.

  11. And I'm really eager for you guys to get to know them as well and hear from them.

  12. So please welcome with me, Warren.

  13. I think I'll be preaching for us.

  14. All right.

  15. I'm right away going to make Sean nervous.

  16. I'm moving the clock.

  17. That's on the...

  18. Just dividing the room.

  19. It's great to be here with all of you.

  20. My wife and I have looked forward to this time.

  21. We were in Manchester last weekend.

  22. So Cade's Cross Church with Jake Young.

  23. Spent Saturday or Sunday with them and preached at that church.

  24. Went to Acadia this week for the first time for us up in Maine.

  25. Did tons of hiking up there.

  26. Climbing different mountains, Cadillac mountains, different mountains.

  27. And seeing the coastline.

  28. And going on a whale watching cruise, which we've done once.

  29. We enjoyed it.

  30. We won't do it again.

  31. But we did enjoy that.

  32. And to be here is just such a privilege to be involved with you.

  33. We were with the Roos last night along with Matt and Cheryl.

  34. And Ray was there.

  35. And just had time with them.

  36. And so it's wonderful to be here with your church.

  37. And I want you to know that your church is prayed for regularly.

  38. So our church outside of Philadelphia or suburb of Philadelphia in Washington, New Jersey.

  39. We pray for this church.

  40. Actually, my son-in-law and my daughter really seriously considered being part of this church plan.

  41. Sean came, spoke.

  42. My son-in-law felt very moved in an unusual way because of respect for Sean, which I would share.

  43. And they were wrestling.

  44. Now, we were, to be honest, we were praying they wouldn't come.

  45. So we're grandparents.

  46. And so grandchildren means a lot to us.

  47. We have five children, 12 grandchildren.

  48. Can I have been married for 40 years?

  49. So, but I want you to know this church is dear to our heart.

  50. And we pray for you on a regular basis.

  51. And you represent an answer to prayer.

  52. There was a vision in Sovereign Grace at one point.

  53. We were like, can you ever get a church in New England?

  54. And that started with Paul Butler.

  55. The first church planted into, or, yeah, Paul.

  56. The first church planted into New England.

  57. And now there's four churches in New England with more being planned.

  58. And that's a phenomenal answer to God, that we would see churches gospel-wise, gospel outposts, in places where we need the gospel preached.

  59. So I want you to know that your church is dear to us and you are praying for.

  60. Ranging for those decisions you may never meet, but they do care and we are connected that way.

  61. And also, my respect for Sean, who couldn't be hired by one of the graduates today, is that I'm preaching and not listening to him preach.

  62. He's a smart guy.

  63. And he's a very smart guy.

  64. So I don't want to ask him questions.

  65. He didn't ask me questions.

  66. I'm not saying, well, actually, I want to hear your perspective on this issue.

  67. Because you're probably going to have a more thought-out perspective than I'll have.

  68. So he's a smart guy.

  69. And I would say this about Sean.

  70. He's a man full of faith.

  71. And church planted does take faith.

  72. He's a man full of faith.

  73. And he's a very humble man.

  74. Through the way that God has gifted him, his humility is profound.

  75. And the other thing that stands out back to you that I've known about him is his courage.

  76. And you want a pastor who has courage.

  77. Because pastors are called to love and tell the truth.

  78. And sometimes you can be liked.

  79. And we all want to be liked.

  80. Nobody walks around not wanting to be liked.

  81. But that can become a trap if it hears you from telling the truth.

  82. Sean, as a pastor, loves you and loves his people enough to always be truthful with them.

  83. And to ground that truth in the grace of God.

  84. So, Sean, thank you for having you serve up here.

  85. And thank you for how you are being a gospel outpost.

  86. We will be praying for your outreach barbecue picnic next Saturday.

  87. So, that would be our prayer list this week on Thursday.

  88. We will spend time as an fellowship training for your outreach that that gospel level will expand into this community.

  89. So, thank you.

  90. So, it's great to be with you this morning.

  91. I'm going to be speaking over the love of God, which is a massive topic.

  92. If you think about the Apostle John, twice in John 4.

  93. He actually makes a statement in John 4, 8 and John 4, 16.

  94. He has this phrase, God is love.

  95. It's not the summary attribute of God, but it is an essential attribute.

  96. When we think about who God is, this is one of the ways he describes himself.

  97. That he is a God of love.

  98. He is a loving God to us.

  99. Paul writes in Ephesians 3, and it's a love that surpasses knowledge.

  100. So, how do you talk about something that actually surpasses our ability to fully comprehend him?

  101. And I believe I can say, in a young age, by now, 5, I'm 16 now, so I was 55 years.

  102. I don't think I understood much of the gospel early, but I think I was genuinely saved.

  103. I was a sinner.

  104. I needed a sinner.

  105. I was a sinner, and Jesus died for my sins.

  106. But understanding the grace of God has been depressing.

  107. But understanding really who I was, apart from God, that really was a sinner and really needed.

  108. And because I was a Christian early in my life, I was in traditional school, I didn't do what I considered going to be immoral things.

  109. So, in our chapels and school, the people who would come and speak would also come in, and they'd have these testimonies that were so unlike anything I had.

  110. You know, drug use, immorality, crime.

  111. We had a guy who was part of the warlocks, the motorcycle gang, and actually had a chapter.

  112. Somebody got shot at his reddit.

  113. And you're like, you're like, I don't have a testimony.

  114. I don't do any of those things.

  115. You're like, I think I lied once.

  116. So, I think I did.

  117. You know, and what happened in that is I didn't have an understanding what would have drove my sin.

  118. Because I was very proud.

  119. I wanted my own glory.

  120. I wanted my own ease.

  121. Those things did function for me.

  122. But they didn't seem big.

  123. So, because my sins didn't seem big, God's grace didn't seem big.

  124. And it was really in my 20s when God started to really reveal the sins of my heart, the motivations of my heart.

  125. And that was a real struggle.

  126. Because then I really fell into the confirmation.

  127. Am I even a Christian?

  128. Why did I not change?

  129. Why did I keep confessing the same sins?

  130. And it was really in my 20s that the grace of God got really introduced.

  131. The love of God got really introduced to me.

  132. And that love just has grown, in my understanding, ever since.

  133. It still is an inexpressible love.

  134. And that's what we're going to be looking at this morning.

  135. So, if you have your Bibles with you, open up here to Zephaniah chapter 3.

    Zephaniah 3 chapter mention

  136. It's probably not a typical place you'd go.

  137. So, you've got to go Old Testament.

  138. And if you're looking for Zephaniah, just look at the index if you can't find it.

  139. Don't act like you don't know where it is.

  140. It's near the end of the Old Testament.

  141. So, you hit the Matthew, you go too far.

  142. Just go back about 20 pages.

  143. And it comes to Zephaniah.

  144. Zephaniah chapter 3.

    Zephaniah 3 chapter mention

  145. Zephaniah is one of the minor prophets.

  146. And they're called the minor prophets.

  147. Not that they're less significant.

  148. So, don't think of them that way.

  149. But they're just shorter.

  150. In fact, these books are very significant to us.

  151. Here's what the minor prophets typically do.

  152. They typically announce God's judgments.

  153. Typically against God's people.

  154. Who typically rebelled against God.

  155. And that was true of Zephaniah.

  156. So, here's what you'll see in the minor prophets.

  157. You will see the holiness and the justice of God.

  158. God's not to be trifled with.

  159. We just finished a series in Joel.

  160. Where God sent a massive locust claim.

  161. To the people of Israel.

  162. Where they were starving.

  163. And then he followed that up with a drought.

  164. And the first message in our series in Joel 1.

  165. Was when God shouts.

  166. In other words, God will give your attention.

  167. To call you repentance.

  168. God acts.

  169. God is holy.

  170. God is a jealous God.

  171. He wants worship.

  172. Our worship.

  173. He wants our fidelity.

  174. And our loyalty.

  175. And the children of Israel regularly.

  176. Went up and down with that.

  177. And when they did.

  178. God would bring judgment.

  179. So, here's what the minor prophets.

  180. If you think about it.

  181. Oh, the justice is going to be clear.

  182. The holiness is going to be clear.

  183. But I think really what we see in these books as well.

  184. Is that God's promise of restoration.

  185. That God loves to rescue.

  186. His people.

  187. Who wander from him.

  188. So, if you read the minor prophets.

  189. Don't miss the big picture.

  190. The big picture is God's rescue.

  191. And restoration.

  192. In the midst of our sin.

  193. And that's what makes God's love.

  194. One of the things that makes God's love.

  195. So astounding.

  196. Is who he loves.

  197. The pictures of God's love.

  198. Theoretically.

  199. God loves you.

  200. And if you have honest appraisal.

  201. Look in the mirror.

  202. Unthornish.

  203. Not in your best moment.

  204. Not in your public moment.

  205. But in your private moment.

  206. In your worst moments.

  207. If you're a child of God.

  208. He still loves you.

  209. And his love does not wane.

  210. He loves people like us.

  211. People who are prone to wander.

  212. Prone to leave.

  213. The God we love.

  214. So the title of this morning's message is.

  215. Do you hear him sing?

  216. Do you hear him sing?

  217. Here's the main point.

  218. God's love.

  219. For his people.

  220. Is to be the controlling influence of our lives.

  221. The animating.

  222. Motivating.

  223. All encompassing.

  224. Effect.

  225. In our lives.

  226. So.

  227. Zephaniah chapter 3.

    Zephaniah 3 chapter mention

  228. We're going to read this.

  229. And then pray.

  230. I'm going to read verses 14 through 17.

  231. Sing aloud.

  232. O daughter of Zion.

  233. Shout.

  234. O Israel.

  235. Rejoice.

  236. And exalt with all your heart.

  237. O daughter of Jerusalem.

  238. The Lord.

  239. Has taken away the judgments against you.

  240. He has cleared away your enemies.

  241. The King of Israel.

  242. The Lord.

  243. Is in your midst.

  244. You shall never again fear evil.

  245. On that day shall be said to Jerusalem.

  246. Fear not O Zion.

  247. Let not your hands go weak.

  248. The Lord your God is in your midst.

  249. A mighty one who will save.

  250. He will rejoice over you with gladness.

  251. He will quiet you by his love.

  252. He will exalt over you with loud singing.

  253. Let's pray.

  254. Lord.

  255. Lord.

  256. We have read your word.

  257. And I pray that you bless the reading of your word.

  258. The reading of your word alone is powerful.

  259. If we slow down.

  260. We pay attention.

  261. These are your very words.

  262. And spirit of God.

  263. I pray that you would.

  264. Empower those words in our heart right now.

  265. Lord.

  266. Please help me to serve people who you do love.

  267. whom you set your affection to and upon.

  268. Lord.

  269. You have purchased with your own blood.

  270. Lord.

  271. For anyone here who does not know you.

  272. May they.

  273. May they see the God of love.

  274. And what you've done to express love to them this morning.

  275. And may they respond to that great love.

  276. Lord.

  277. Help me to preach your word accurately.

  278. For the benefit of your people.

  279. In Jesus name.

  280. Amen.

  281. Amen.

  282. I'm sure you've all experienced things that have taken your breath away.

  283. One of the things I love to do is I love to hike.

  284. So I've hiked.

  285. I've hiked up in Acadia.

  286. I've hiked out in Washington dozens of times.

  287. Probably.

  288. I've done backpacking in the presidential range.

  289. In the White Mountains.

  290. Which can be very challenging.

  291. I've also gone out west.

  292. I hike out west pretty much every summer.

  293. I'll go out in Idaho, Montana, Wyoming.

  294. I'm going to Wyoming this summer.

  295. And I'll hike in the mountains.

  296. I'll backpack four or five days out.

  297. I've seen Christmas bears out.

  298. Which is.

  299. Sounds very thrilling until you see them.

  300. And you go from it sounds exciting to actually.

  301. I could be terrified of getting minutes of that.

  302. But I've seen beautiful things.

  303. True.

  304. Glorious beauty.

  305. And so I've gone up over mountaintops.

  306. Over ridges.

  307. Passes.

  308. 10,000.

  309. 11,000 feet.

  310. And all of a sudden there'll be there.

  311. Just a turquoise blue lake.

  312. I mean it's pretty blue.

  313. And it's just beautiful.

  314. It's awe inspiring.

  315. And then it's surrounded by snow capped mountains.

  316. And you just look at it.

  317. And you go wow.

  318. Well this is gorgeous.

  319. This is glorious.

  320. This is beautiful.

  321. This is majestic.

  322. And it takes your breath away.

  323. I was in Yosemite National Park.

  324. And did some big hiking air.

  325. And some backpacking air as well.

  326. And we went to a place called Half Point.

  327. And you can walk on Half Point.

  328. You can walk right out to the edge.

  329. To a 3,000 foot cliff.

  330. Now actually I don't walk out to the edge.

  331. Because if you're walking out.

  332. You realize there's still nothing.

  333. I'm not seeing a slope.

  334. And you walk.

  335. Not this far.

  336. I'm coming back a little bit far.

  337. Next thing I'm on my knees.

  338. And next thing I'm crawling.

  339. And there's one thing you do.

  340. You crawl.

  341. And you look over.

  342. And it's 3,000 feet straight down.

  343. I got a rock once.

  344. It's through a rock.

  345. It counts about nine before you heard it did.

  346. And it's just.

  347. Ah.

  348. It takes your breath away.

  349. Think about the experience.

  350. This is a few of you.

  351. And you've had it.

  352. Taking your breath away.

  353. And you're like.

  354. Ah.

  355. Wow.

  356. Wow.

  357. That's amazing.

  358. Brothers and sisters.

  359. The love of God is meant to take our breath away.

  360. It's meant to have that same effect.

  361. Ah.

  362. God would love me.

  363. Ah.

  364. That way.

  365. Me.

  366. It's meant to have an effect on us.

  367. To take our breath away.

  368. This is what makes Zephaniah 3 an amazing text.

  369. It is an amazing text.

  370. And what makes it most amazing is the context.

  371. So it's not just the text.

  372. It's the context.

  373. When this is written by the prophet Zephaniah,

  374. at this point, all parts of society had turned from God.

  375. Or were indifferent to God.

  376. The priests were indifferent to God.

  377. Had turned from God.

  378. The princes were indifferent from God.

  379. Or turned from God.

  380. The merchants were.

  381. Had turned against God.

  382. The masses.

  383. The elite people.

  384. And the normal people.

  385. Basically the nation of Israel had turned away from God.

  386. Or had become indifferent to God.

  387. And probably being indifferent to God is actually worse than turning from God.

  388. So if you're turning from God.

  389. You're coming against God.

  390. You recognize it's there.

  391. You're fighting.

  392. Indifference is you're irrelevant.

  393. Just treating someone like they're a non-person.

  394. So indifference to God is a great evil.

  395. A great affront.

  396. The creator of the universe.

  397. Who made this magnificent universe.

  398. This complex universe.

  399. And then people just walk around indifference.

  400. I listen to sports radio regularly.

  401. And people always say.

  402. Well yeah I believe in God.

  403. I believe in the analysis.

  404. If I believe in God.

  405. I'm like.

  406. You just said something profound.

  407. And you said it in such a trite way.

  408. It has no meaning to you.

  409. If there's a God.

  410. He's either of ultimate being.

  411. Or of no meaning.

  412. But there's not mid-ground to you.

  413. And this nation.

  414. That God had chosen.

  415. Who God had delivered out of Egypt.

  416. Who God had done miraculous things to.

  417. But God had made his own people well.

  418. They were now.

  419. Rebelling against God.

  420. Or indifferent to God.

  421. And it's in the midst of their indifference.

  422. And their disobedience.

  423. And their rebellion.

  424. That God gives the promises that we read.

  425. In Zephaniah chapter 3.

    Zephaniah 3 chapter mention

  426. Now there's ways that this text is fulfilled.

  427. In the Old Testament.

  428. But this is mostly a messianic text.

  429. It points what Christ will do.

  430. And here's the news for us this morning.

  431. Is God will always have the last word.

  432. In the midst of their disobedience.

  433. In the midst of their indifference.

  434. God still is going to have the last word.

  435. Here's why that's going to be discussed.

  436. It means our circumstances do not have the last word.

  437. It means other people in your life.

  438. Do not have the last word.

  439. And it means this.

  440. Our sin does not always have the last word.

  441. God has the last word.

  442. So two points this morning.

  443. Simple points.

  444. Number one.

  445. God loves to love his people.

  446. And number two.

  447. God's love is meant to control our lives.

  448. First point.

  449. God loves to love his people.

  450. Look at verse 17.

  451. The Lord your God is in your midst.

  452. Strongly.

  453. A mighty one who will save.

  454. Now pay attention to the second half.

  455. He will rejoice over you with gladness.

  456. He will quiet you by his love.

  457. He will exalt over you with loud singing.

  458. Do you notice what's true of God in this text?

  459. There is no reluctance.

  460. There is no duty in his love.

  461. There is the light in his love.

  462. Now if you ask me.

  463. How or why is God the light in us?

  464. I really don't think I can answer that question.

  465. Because he chose to.

  466. Because we have potential.

  467. There is no more of the good.

  468. It is a choice he made.

  469. It is the right he has.

  470. And brothers and sisters.

  471. This is a consistent theme in scripture.

  472. Listen to these following texts.

  473. We have these for you.

  474. Psalm 149 verse 4.

    Psalms 149:4

  475. The Lord takes pleasure in his people.

  476. He adores the humble with salvation.

  477. Isaiah 62 verse 5.

    Isaiah 62:5

  478. The second half of verse 5.

  479. As the bride who rejoices over the bride.

  480. So shall God rejoice over you.

  481. One of the great privileges I have.

  482. As being a pastor.

  483. I have done countless weddings it seems.

  484. And one of the things I love.

  485. Is when I am in the front eye.

  486. I have a great seat.

  487. So I have a groom right next to me.

  488. And then the bride comes.

  489. And I always like.

  490. When the doors close.

  491. And all of a sudden they open.

  492. And the bride appears.

  493. I watch the groom.

  494. I look at the bride for a moment.

  495. And then I watch the groom.

  496. You know what I notice?

  497. A man captivated.

  498. A man in utter joy.

  499. And a man saying.

  500. Can you walk faster?

  501. Right?

  502. With the slow letting walk.

  503. Grooms are like.

  504. Come on.

  505. Move along.

  506. Let's play a fast tune.

  507. Run down that aisle.

  508. And that's how they think through that.

  509. And so there's this.

  510. There's this delight that God has.

  511. In us.

  512. Like a bride who rejoices over the bride.

  513. So shall God rejoice over you.

  514. Micah 7.18.

  515. Who wants a God like you?

  516. Pardoning and passing over transgressions.

  517. Transgressions for the remnant of his inheritance.

  518. Listen.

  519. He does not attain his anger forever.

  520. Because he delights.

  521. He delights.

  522. Instead.

  523. Fast love.

  524. Luke 15.

  525. I think you're in a series of the Lord.

  526. You're going to write a wonderful series.

  527. That will be.

  528. It is for you.

  529. Luke chapter 15.

    Luke 15 chapter mention

  530. Verse 7.

  531. Just so I tell you.

  532. There will be more joy in heaven.

  533. Over one sinner who repents.

  534. Than over 99 righteous persons.

  535. Who need no repentance.

  536. This is how God thinks about us.

  537. Theologian Matthew Henry said it this way.

  538. He's a theologian from the 1600s.

  539. The great God only loves his saints.

  540. But he loves to love them.

  541. Now I want to pause for them.

  542. And ask you a question.

  543. Because you may be asking this question as well.

  544. How can God sing over someone like me?

  545. How can God sing over someone like me?

  546. And if you're all like me at these times.

  547. You can look in the mirror and say.

  548. I'm a mess.

  549. And there's times I think about my life.

  550. And you have.

  551. You're 60 years.

  552. 60 years old.

  553. Five children.

  554. Twelve grandchildren.

  555. Been married for almost 40 years.

  556. You.

  557. Really never miss church.

  558. You went to a Christian school for 11 years.

  559. Been a pastor now for 35 years almost.

  560. You should know that.

  561. How can you make the same mistake?

  562. How can you doubt?

  563. How can you drift?

  564. How many times do you need to be rescued?

  565. And I can just say, Lord, I'm a mess.

  566. That's not hyperbole.

  567. It's not.

  568. You know.

  569. Sometimes you're going to think, well, I was a mess before I was a Christian.

  570. And I think you know how to resolve that mess.

  571. Before I knew Christ, I was like this.

  572. But after I knew Christ, I'm supposed to be like this.

  573. What would happen to the gap?

  574. When we're not leading up and matching up to all of our expectations and all biblical expectations.

  575. It could be a mess.

  576. So I can make a mistake as a father.

  577. And if you know my kids here, they come up and say, yeah.

  578. And we tell you, there were times he got angry.

  579. Simply angry.

  580. All he did is be apologized.

  581. He owned it.

  582. But anger, as a husband.

  583. 40 years has not been just, man, look at that.

  584. And it just started with glory.

  585. And it's going glory to glory.

  586. My mom's here.

  587. I can't say that.

  588. You know, I mean, she would have.

  589. How many times do I have to tell you my birthday's important to me?

  590. Really?

  591. You would think that pain alone would have had me learn that lesson.

  592. But I was like, because I didn't know my birthday's being important.

  593. So I got out, hey, I'll get a present sometime the week of.

  594. And for some reason, her feelings were hurt.

  595. And he said, well, how many times have that happened?

  596. Yeah, probably for a decade.

  597. But, man, you are slow.

  598. Yeah.

  599. I'm being honest.

  600. It's not ever early.

  601. I don't mean, slow learn.

  602. And folks, sin is stupid, too.

  603. So I'm a mess.

  604. As a pastor, I made mistakes.

  605. As a person, my first, and this is actually,

  606. my first message,

  607. first Easter message when I was a pastor was in 1993.

  608. And I was preaching out of Galatians 6.14,

  609. where Paul talks about, you know,

  610. forgive my ghost except in Christ Jesus,

  611. you know, the cross and the crucifix.

  612. So no other post.

  613. During the message,

  614. there's times when people are laughing at the right times.

  615. I'm actually, you know, they're saying something,

  616. and they're laughing.

  617. And there's times I can tell that, you know,

  618. oh, there's a little bit of soberness.

  619. And in the middle of the message,

  620. the message is,

  621. boast only in Christ.

  622. I had this thought come to my mind.

  623. This is a good message.

  624. Now, that's a hard place to think as a pastor,

  625. because that way you think,

  626. hmm, this is a good message.

  627. What did I just do?

  628. I just boasted about a message

  629. that probably most people are going to remember

  630. a week from now.

  631. And I'm boasting about it.

  632. It's my first Easter message.

  633. And I'm boasting, this is a good message.

  634. Point text.

  635. We're always supposed to boast in Christ.

  636. And then you start wondering,

  637. is God going to kill me right now?

  638. Like, is this going to be, like,

  639. we're going to get church playing done

  640. in, like, a week?

  641. And it's going to be, well,

  642. they started and they ended

  643. because the guy died while preaching.

  644. And while it's somewhat humorous,

  645. I do feel God's rescue in those moments.

  646. Because you know what,

  647. in that message,

  648. God was rescue.

  649. Because God did say,

  650. what did you just boast in?

  651. Where are you going to find the identity?

  652. And son,

  653. pastor,

  654. call man,

  655. I love you enough

  656. and I love those people enough.

  657. I don't want you to find your identity

  658. in performance.

  659. I don't want you to find your identity

  660. in pastoral success.

  661. If you do that,

  662. you'll not abusing people.

  663. You won't be a servant.

  664. You'll be a master.

  665. And I love you enough

  666. and I love them enough

  667. to rescue you

  668. during the message

  669. to confront you,

  670. to challenge you

  671. in the message.

  672. And so I'm preaching

  673. and having a separate conversation,

  674. in a sense,

  675. with the Lord.

  676. And I got in a good case.

  677. Because I'm boasting

  678. in the wrong thing right now.

  679. So when I say I'm a mess,

  680. it's not hyperbole.

  681. But what do I have to do with my hope?

  682. Well, my hope is found

  683. in this text as well.

  684. In the next verse,

  685. verse 15,

  686. the Lord has taken away

  687. the judgments against you.

  688. So you know why

  689. I can tell you that story?

  690. God has taken away

  691. that judgment against me.

  692. God has done something for me.

  693. Folks, God is not like us.

  694. God loves messes.

  695. God loves messes.

  696. God disciplines

  697. even those that he loves.

  698. And this is what it says

  699. in Proverbs chapter 3.

    Proverbs 3 chapter mention

  700. Do you see what God puts together

  701. that we don't generally put together?

  702. Discipline and delight.

  703. Parentally,

  704. I don't typically put

  705. delight and discipline together.

  706. Discipline is my disfavor,

  707. right?

  708. And favors when you're okay.

  709. But actually,

  710. God delights

  711. in those he's also disciplined.

  712. Oh God,

  713. you are so,

  714. so very different

  715. than who I am.

  716. You love messes.

  717. You love your people.

  718. Listen to this quote

  719. from Charles Spurgeon,

  720. who's my historical hero.

  721. And apart from

  722. biblical preachers,

  723. I think the greatest preacher

  724. of all time,

  725. preached in England

  726. as a young man

  727. and then preached faithfully

  728. over decades.

  729. Charles Spurgeon said this,

  730. the Lord takes pleasure

  731. in them to fear him,

  732. imperfect

  733. though they may be.

  734. He sees them

  735. as they are to be

  736. and so he rejoices

  737. over them.

  738. Even when they cannot

  739. rejoice in themselves.

  740. If you're here today,

  741. you're like,

  742. if you do my week,

  743. if you knew yesterday,

  744. if you're a parent,

  745. you could be saying

  746. if you knew this morning.

  747. Or next week.

  748. What happens next week?

  749. Don't give me your good week.

  750. What happens

  751. when you have a bad week?

  752. You have an indifferent week.

  753. You have a more ridiculous week.

  754. He rejoices over that

  755. and anyone can not

  756. rejoice in themselves.

  757. When your face

  758. is blurred with tears,

  759. your eyes red with weeping,

  760. and your heart

  761. heaves the sorrow for sin,

  762. the great Father

  763. is rejoicing over you.

  764. We are questioning,

  765. doubting,

  766. sorrowing,

  767. trembling,

  768. and all the while,

  769. he who sees it from you,

  770. the end from the beginning,

  771. knows what will come

  772. out of the present

  773. disquietude,

  774. and therefore rejoices.

  775. let us rise in faith

  776. to share the joy

  777. of God.

  778. And there seems to be

  779. in this text

  780. just one condition.

  781. And the condition

  782. is that we seek refuge

  783. and actually to go back,

  784. you know,

  785. go back to verse 12,

  786. just look up

  787. from verse 14,

  788. but it says here

  789. in verse 12,

  790. I believe in your risk

  791. and people humble

  792. and lowly,

  793. they will seek refuge

  794. in the name

  795. of the Lord.

  796. So what do they do?

  797. These are people

  798. who start to realize,

  799. oh,

  800. I need God,

  801. I have been indifferent,

  802. and now what I'm doing,

  803. I'm not going to make it up,

  804. I'm not going to pay for it,

  805. I'm not going to try

  806. to reform myself,

  807. I'm going to look

  808. to God,

  809. I will seek refuge

  810. in the name

  811. of the Lord.

  812. And that's where they

  813. go,

  814. to God.

  815. Those who trust in God,

  816. oh,

  817. he rejoices

  818. over those

  819. who trust in himself.

  820. Question,

  821. have you placed

  822. your trust

  823. in Jesus Christ?

  824. Have you?

  825. Nothing more important,

  826. most important question

  827. to ever resolve

  828. in your life,

  829. right?

  830. Christ is either true

  831. of all the things

  832. he said were about

  833. and suffered true,

  834. but utterly false

  835. and not important.

  836. Religion's not good

  837. for just happy life,

  838. successful life,

  839. well-ordered life.

  840. Paul would tell you

  841. very clearly

  842. in 1 Corinthians 15,

  843. if Christ is not the race

  844. and that your faith

  845. is futile,

  846. you're still of your sins,

  847. and you turn

  848. and you're married

  849. for tomorrow you die,

  850. it doesn't matter.

  851. But if it's true,

  852. it's eminently true.

  853. It claims us,

  854. it empowers us,

  855. it directs our lives.

  856. Do you know that God

  857. loved you this way?

  858. That he,

  859. God is not tolerating you.

  860. And I think because

  861. we grew up in so much

  862. of a performance culture,

  863. and in performance,

  864. how we do it,

  865. it's so hardwired in us,

  866. how you deal,

  867. what you got to do,

  868. what's your,

  869. you know,

  870. I played sports all gone,

  871. how you performing,

  872. did you work hard?

  873. It's all my effort,

  874. and then,

  875. and the feedback

  876. to my effort.

  877. Work hard,

  878. put more time in,

  879. train more,

  880. whatever's involved.

  881. And there's so much

  882. about performance

  883. and acceptance,

  884. and God says,

  885. you didn't have a make.

  886. So he looks at the

  887. performance of his son

  888. who lived a perfect life,

  889. who died a death

  890. in our place.

  891. He says,

  892. look to his performance.

  893. And if you trust him,

  894. if you seek refuge in him,

  895. oh,

  896. I sing over you,

  897. and I rejoice over you,

  898. and I sorrow over you,

  899. even in your worst moments.

  900. Doesn't mean he doesn't care

  901. about those moments.

  902. He'll rest for those moments,

  903. but his love does not change

  904. in those moments.

  905. So that's the first one,

  906. God's love.

  907. God loves the love of people.

  908. Second one,

  909. God's love is meant

  910. to control our lives.

  911. And when I say control,

  912. fuel,

  913. direct,

  914. encompass,

  915. animate,

  916. empower our lives.

  917. God's love is meant

  918. to control our lives.

  919. So how?

  920. How does this text inform us

  921. of God's love

  922. to control our lives,

  923. to influence our lives?

  924. So one of them,

  925. they want to be happy.

  926. Look at verse 14.

  927. Sing around,

  928. the Lord of Zion.

  929. Shower with Israel.

  930. Rejoice and exalt

  931. with all your heart.

  932. Be happy.

  933. Now,

  934. guys,

  935. wait a second.

  936. I heard Sean preach.

  937. Sean talks,

  938. it's not just about happiness.

  939. It's about holiness.

  940. It's about our joy.

  941. I'm not sure

  942. a flip of happiness.

  943. I'm trying to take

  944. your text.

  945. It says,

  946. sing,

  947. rejoice,

  948. exalt.

  949. But here's what I think

  950. that is.

  951. You can grieve

  952. and rejoice

  953. at the same time.

  954. My wife and I

  955. experienced

  956. in the last couple months,

  957. I would say,

  958. maybe the most

  959. greatest trial

  960. in our lives.

  961. And so there's,

  962. it was almost

  963. a grief

  964. that couldn't be covered.

  965. And as we're

  966. processing through that,

  967. there was this,

  968. this huge grief.

  969. and yet,

  970. there was also a,

  971. still a,

  972. but I know God.

  973. And that can't change.

  974. That won't change.

  975. And I know God loves me.

  976. I know God's fooling me.

  977. And so you have this

  978. grief on one side,

  979. and yet,

  980. a joy

  981. and still a happenings

  982. in the other.

  983. And that just came from truth.

  984. And I thought,

  985. you know,

  986. whatever assails me,

  987. on this side,

  988. this side remains true.

  989. So grief,

  990. but rejoicing

  991. at the same time.

  992. And there's a reason

  993. for us to be happy.

  994. There's a reason

  995. for us to rejoice,

  996. to resolve

  997. with all our heart.

  998. And we find a reason

  999. in verse 15.

  1000. So rejoice.

  1001. Sing aloud, O Israel,

  1002. until our time.

  1003. Shout, O Israel.

  1004. There's joy.

  1005. There's happiness.

  1006. Rejoice.

  1007. Rejoice.

  1008. It's all your heart,

  1009. O daughter of Jerusalem.

  1010. Why?

  1011. Because the Lord

  1012. has taken away

  1013. the judgments against you.

  1014. He has taken away

  1015. all judgments.

  1016. This is what Christ

  1017. has done for us.

  1018. This is the truth

  1019. that stays with us.

  1020. Regardless of what's

  1021. going on out here,

  1022. circumstances,

  1023. people,

  1024. what are they doing?

  1025. What's happening?

  1026. Health reports.

  1027. Disappointments in life.

  1028. Goals that were

  1029. toward the goals.

  1030. Dreams that did not

  1031. happen.

  1032. What happens?

  1033. Why?

1034. This is the other side.

  1035. He has taken away

  1036. all judgments

  1037. against me.

  1038. I love the hymn

1039. of 4,000 times the same.

  1040. What's one of the

  1041. verses in that,

  1042. one of the statements

  1043. in that?

  1044. His blood can make

  1045. the fowls clean.

  1046. His blood

  1047. availed for me.

  1048. In Matthew 7, 19,

1049. it talks about our sin

  1050. being cast

  1051. into the depths

  1052. of the city.

  1053. And that idea

  1054. of being cast

  1055. into the depths

  1056. of the city

  1057. means you never

  1058. see it again.

  1059. It's never brought

  1060. back against you.

  1061. So why are we

  1062. happy?

  1063. Because Christ

  1064. died for our sins.

  1065. That is categorical.

  1066. If that's true,

  1067. if you believe that,

  1068. that's the most

  1069. defining part

  1070. of your life.

  1071. Christ loved me

  1072. so much.

  1073. For God so loved

  1074. the world,

  1075. this is God,

  1076. they create this

  1077. immense, glorious,

  1078. complex world

  1079. by His voice

  1080. effortlessly.

  1081. Love me so much

1082. that I love the world

1083. that He gave His only Son.

  1084. That whoever believes

1085. in Him shall not perish

  1086. in heaven's own life.

1087. Do you see the lack,

  1088. in one sense,

  1089. the lack of effort

  1090. God had in creation?

  1091. He just spoke it

  1092. versus the effort

  1093. He had in redemption.

  1094. Redemption

  1095. cost His Son.

  1096. Creation

  1097. spoken.

1098. Call it in a distance.

  1099. Redemption

  1100. about together.

  1101. Redemption

  1102. said,

  1103. I have to send

  1104. my Son

  1105. to die

  1106. for indifferent

  1107. people,

  1108. rebellious people.

  1109. And I'm doing that

  1110. because I love it.

  1111. And my Son

  1112. is going to die

  1113. on a cross.

  1114. And not just

  1115. the physical pain

  1116. of all that,

  1117. but we can talk

  1118. about all the physical

  1119. pain of dying

  1120. on a cross

  1121. and all that

  1122. happened to him

  1123. physically and body

  1124. and all the nerve

  1125. that means

  1126. and all the things

  1127. that he created

  1128. that they were

  1129. enraged in pain.

  1130. That was the spiritual.

  1131. This man

  1132. who knew no sin

  1133. had our sin

  1134. placed upon him.

  1135. Our guilt

  1136. placed upon him.

  1137. Our worst

  1138. moments

  1139. placed upon him.

  1140. Our moments

  1141. when we didn't know

  1142. Christ

  1143. placed upon him.

  1144. And our failures

  1145. after we know Christ

  1146. placed upon him.

  1147. Your sins

  1148. past,

  1149. present,

  1150. future

  1151. placed upon him.

  1152. And then you have

  1153. the God of justice

  1154. and holiness

  1155. punish his own son.

  1156. And a man

  1157. remembered,

  1158. oh,

  1159. creation

  1160. wants it's easy.

  1161. Redemption

  1162. costly.

  1163. For him.

  1164. But he loved us

  1165. that way

  1166. so

  1167. cause of that

  1168. oh,

  1169. we can now

  1170. be happy.

  1171. Our sins

  1172. have been resolved

  1173. by Christ.

  1174. His blood

  1175. can make

  1176. the fallous

  1177. from him.

  1178. His blood

  1179. availed for me.

  1180. So,

  1181. be happy.

  1182. Secondly,

  1183. be confident.

  1184. Be confident.

  1185. God is with you.

  1186. Look what else

  1187. he says

  1188. in verse 15.

  1189. The Lord

  1190. has taken away

  1191. the judgments

  1192. against you.

  1193. What else

  1194. has he done?

  1195. He has cleared

  1196. away your enemies.

  1197. The King of Israel,

  1198. the Lord,

  1199. is in your midst.

  1200. You shall never

  1201. again fear evil.

  1202. The Lord

  1203. is in your midst.

  1204. A mighty one

  1205. who will save.

  1206. And this is

  1207. the Lord here.

  1208. This is the covenant

  1209. keeping

  1210. majestic

  1211. God.

  1212. L-O-R-D

  1213. capitalized.

  1214. This is covenant

  1215. keeping

  1216. majestic

  1217. God

  1218. who does

  1219. all things,

  1220. has all power,

  1221. self-existent,

  1222. unchanging God.

  1223. He

  1224. will

  1225. save.

  1226. He

  1227. will

  1228. be

  1229. with you

  1230. for the

  1231. trial we are

  1232. in.

  1233. I,

  1234. for those

  1235. I am young,

  1236. I don't know

  1237. how to make sense

  1238. to this world,

  1239. nor how to live

  1240. in this world,

  1241. if you don't

  1242. have

  1243. Christ.

  1244. In other words,

  1245. you're either

  1246. not paying attention,

  1247. or everything's

  1248. breaking your way.

  1249. But what

  1250. happens when

  1251. the reality of

  1252. life

  1253. hits?

  1254. And hit

  1255. then where?

  1256. Live long

  1257. enough,

  1258. and you

  1259. will suffer.

  1260. Live long

  1261. enough,

  1262. I don't

  1263. face it,

  1264. our expectations

  1265. won't be met.

  1266. Just a point

  1267. will happen.

  1268. My son

  1269. has Crohn's

  1270. disease.

  1271. He's in his

  1272. thirties.

  1273. He's had it

  1274. since his

  1275. teen years.

  1276. He's got it

  1277. actually a

  1278. 10 who

  1279. was diagnosed.

  1280. He's locked

  1281. about three

  1282. feet of his

  1283. intestines.

  1284. It's just

  1285. living in a

  1286. cursed,

  1287. fallen world.

  1288. And yet

  1289. there is

  1290. rejoicing in

  1291. his heart.

  1292. There is

  1293. a trusting

  1294. of God

  1295. in his

  1296. heart.

  1297. There is

  1298. that if I

  1299. wait until I

  1300. feel good

  1301. to do

  1302. things,

  1303. Lord,

  1304. I'll never

  1305. do anything.

  1306. So I

  1307. serve with

  1308. the strength

  1309. that God

  1310. has given

  1311. me.

  1312. And he

  1313. knows this.

  1314. God's

  1315. a company

  1316. to keep

  1317. me.

  1318. God is

  1319. with him

  1320. in the midst

  1321. of his

  1322. troubles.

  1323. And someday

  1324. his troubles

  1325. will all

  1326. resolve and

  1327. go away.

  1328. The king

  1329. of Israel,

  1330. the Lord

  1331. is in your

  1332. midst.

  1333. You shall

  1334. never again

  1335. fear evil.

  1336. When you

  1337. finish this

  1338. series in

  1339. 1 Peter,

  1340. 1 Peter 5

  1341. talks about

  1342. Satan being

  1343. a roaring

  1344. lion,

  1345. a lion who's

  1346. proud to

  1347. devour.

  1348. And we

  1349. not need

  1350. fear him.

  1351. We need to be

  1352. aware of him

  1353. without fear

  1354. him.

  1355. Resist him

  1356. and he

  1357. flees.

  1358. Why?

  1359. Because God

  1360. will clear out

  1361. my hands.

  1362. The Lord

  1363. God is

  1364. with me.

  1365. So we

  1366. can be

  1367. happy,

  1368. joyful,

  1369. we can

  1370. be confident.

  1371. Nothing

  1372. will change

  1373. the love

  1374. of God

  1375. towards us.

  1376. And what's

  1377. it say

  1378. here in

  1379. verse 17?

  1380. He will

  1381. quiet us

  1382. by his

  1383. love.

  1384. In

  1385. a child

  1386. when they

  1387. become

  1388. quiet,

  1389. they're

  1390. content

  1391. and

  1392. they're

  1393. secure.

  1394. And now

  1395. it's safe.

  1396. There's

  1397. something that

  1398. happens there

  1399. quieted by

  1400. the love

  1401. of God.

  1402. His

  1403. unchanging,

  1404. rejoicing,

  1405. singing love.

  1406. We are

  1407. quieted by

  1408. that love.

  1409. Listen to this

  1410. quote from

  1411. Jerry Bridges.

  1412. We're going to

  1413. make a book

  1414. for that

  1415. we have

  1416. to do

  1417. with the

  1418. Lord

  1419. to now

  1420. for decades.

  1421. Jerry

  1422. Bridges

  1423. said,

  1424. just as

  1425. God's

  1426. love to

  1427. his son

  1428. cannot

  1429. change,

  1430. so his

  1431. love to

  1432. us

  1433. cannot

  1434. change.

  1435. Because we

  1436. are union

  1437. with what

  1438. he loves.

  1439. God's

  1440. love to

  1441. us

  1442. cannot

  1443. fail

  1444. anymore

  1445. than his

  1446. love to

  1447. Christ

  1448. can

  1449. fail.

  1450. May that

  1451. love

  1452. help your

  1453. confidence.

  1454. So,

  1455. be happy,

  1456. be joyful,

  1457. secondly,

  1458. be confident,

  1459. and lastly,

  1460. be zealous.

  1461. Look at

  1462. verse 16.

  1463. On that

  1464. day,

  1465. it's

  1466. something that

  1467. said to

  1468. Jesus,

  1469. fear not,

  1470. O Zion,

  1471. and let

  1472. not your

  1473. hands

  1474. grow

  1475. weak.

  1476. Here's

  1477. what it

  1478. starts.

  1479. I mean,

  1480. the great

  1481. king has

  1482. rescued you,

  1483. he has

  1484. set his

  1485. love upon

  1486. you,

  1487. so now

  1488. serve him

  1489. with all

  1490. your might.

  1491. Seek

  1492. his

  1493. kingdom

  1494. first.

  1495. One of the

  1496. great joys of

  1497. church

  1498. plans,

  1499. so you're,

  1500. Sean,

  1501. how long is the

  1502. church

  1503. been here,

  1504. three years?

  1505. Yes,

  1506. in three years,

  1507. a church

  1508. plan,

  1509. which is

  1510. somebody

  1511. in our

  1512. 25th

  1513. anniversary.

  1514. What a

  1515. great thing

  1516. to go

  1517. plan a

  1518. church,

  1519. to be

  1520. involved.

  1521. What a

  1522. great thing

  1523. to watch

  1524. God work.

  1525. I mean,

  1526. it's just

  1527. thrilling.

  1528. I pray for

  1529. the day

  1530. when you

  1531. guys will

  1532. plan other

  1533. churches.

  1534. And the

  1535. only,

  1536. it's a

  1537. joyful day

  1538. and a

  1539. hard day,

  1540. because two

  1541. things happen

  1542. at once.

  1543. You're

  1544. excited for

  1545. we're

  1546. planning

  1547. another

  1548. church,

  1549. exhilarating,

  1550. and then

  1551. you're

  1552. saying goodbye

  1553. to some

  1554. friends.

  1555. And that's

  1556. painful.

  1557. It's like,

  1558. I love you.

  1559. And we're

  1560. still friends,

  1561. but we

  1562. don't see

  1563. each other

  1564. the same

  1565. way,

  1566. because you're

  1567. going somewhere

  1568. else to build

  1569. and do

  1570. something

  1571. differently.

  1572. And there's

  1573. a cost in

  1574. that.

  1575. And we

  1576. plan at two

  1577. churches,

  1578. in both

  1579. tears,

  1580. tears,

  1581. and joy.

  1582. Brothers,

  1583. sisters,

  1584. God loves

  1585. you this

  1586. way,

  1587. serve you

  1588. on your

  1589. heart.

  1590. One of

  1591. the things

  1592. I have

  1593. felt through

  1594. life is I

  1595. have no

  1596. regrets of

  1597. serving Christ

  1598. regardless of

  1599. the cost.

  1600. You asked

  1601. me to walk

  1602. in the

  1603. army,

  1604. you said

  1605. you're 60,

  1606. taught me

  1607. alive.

  1608. I taught

  1609. my Christian

  1610. school for

  1611. nine years,

  1612. there was a

  1613. lot of

  1614. sacrifices

  1615. involved in

  1616. that,

  1617. pastoral

  1618. ministry for

  1619. almost 30

  1620. years now.

  1621. So I've

  1622. been Christian

  1623. ministry,

  1624. really,

  1625. from when I

  1626. graduated

  1627. college to

  1628. today,

  1629. it's been

  1630. all Christian

  1631. ministry.

  1632. I said,

  1633. well,

  1634. what about

  1635. the sacrifice?

  1636. What about

  1637. the sacrifice?

  1638. Absolutely.

  1639. What about

  1640. the pressures?

  1641. Absolutely.

  1642. Are financial

  1643. pressures fun?

  1644. No.

  1645. They're not.

  1646. They're hard.

  1647. Very hard.

  1648. It was hard

  1649. driving home to

  1650. our apartment

  1651. and we hit

  1652. Pennsylvania

  1653. when I was a

  1654. Christian school

  1655. teacher and

  1656. you know,

  1657. the people from

  1658. the world are

  1659. walking by

  1660. drunk and

  1661. cursing and

  1662. they're not

  1663. next door and

  1664. it's being accused

  1665. of his wife and

  1666. we're living in an

  1667. apartment and

  1668. you're just like,

  1669. Lord,

  1670. you said,

  1671. you know,

  1672. what guilt is

  1673. one that we

  1674. can't ask for

  1675. an angel?

  1676. We can't ask a

  1677. whole bunch more

  1678. than this.

  1679. There were

  1680. sacrifices.

  1681. It was hard.

  1682. We're not in the

  1683. same place today.

  1684. I'm grateful.

  1685. But yes,

  1686. you regret

  1687. sacrifices for

  1688. God.

  1689. I'll tell you,

  1690. counter-workly

  1691. and absolutely,

  1692. I have no

  1693. regret in serving

  1694. Christ at any

  1695. moment in my

  1696. life,

  1697. regardless of

  1698. course.

  1699. So where do you

  1700. have regrets?

  1701. You know where I

  1702. have regrets?

  1703. Serving myself.

  1704. Oh, I have

  1705. I can answer

  1706. about stuff.

  1707. I can talk to

  1708. you about

  1709. mistakes,

  1710. reasons,

  1711. mistakes,

  1712. sins.

  1713. You know,

  1714. in serving

  1715. God,

  1716. not once.

  1717. I've had

  1718. different trips

  1719. to India,

  1720. where I've done

  1721. pastors'

  1722. conferences in

  1723. India and

  1724. going there and

  1725. because of the

  1726. places I was in,

  1727. my life has

  1728. never threatened.

  1729. I don't act

  1730. like I'm some

  1731. courageous guy

  1732. or not.

  1733. But driving

  1734. in India itself

  1735. can be life-threatening.

  1736. If you've ever

  1737. driven in India,

  1738. it's very challenging.

  1739. And I think of

  1740. places where

  1741. missionaries

  1742. have been killed,

  1743. they've earned

  1744. 200 Christian

  1745. homes.

  1746. I always had a

  1747. pastor I met,

  1748. knew someone

  1749. who'd been killed

  1750. through faith,

  1751. and certainly I

  1752. didn't knew

  1753. someone who was

  1754. beaten.

  1755. And so when I

  1756. wrote,

  1757. I left,

  1758. I wrote letters

  1759. to my family

  1760. and my church.

  1761. There are hard

  1762. letters to write

  1763. anything,

  1764. I wish I'd

  1765. come back.

  1766. I'm writing

  1767. to my bars

  1768. and I'm not

  1769. walking down

  1770. the aisle.

  1771. I'm writing

  1772. to my sons.

  1773. I'm writing

  1774. to my church.

  1775. I'm writing

  1776. to my wife.

  1777. Meet them.

  1778. So I'm writing

  1779. these letters,

  1780. but I hope

  1781. they'll never be

  1782. sent.

  1783. And in all

  1784. those letters,

  1785. it's like,

  1786. you know,

  1787. we end it

  1788. this way.

  1789. Follow Christ

  1790. with all your

  1791. heart,

  1792. serve Him

  1793. with all your

  1794. mind.

  1795. You'll have

  1796. no regret.

  1797. There may be

  1798. costs,

  1799. but you will

  1800. not have

  1801. regret.

  1802. What you're

  1803. doing,

  1804. you're

  1805. starting.

  1806. How do you

  1807. serve?

  1808. We've now

  1809. been 25

  1810. years.

  1811. We have

  1812. some guys

  1813. that have

  1814. been community

  1815. or community

  1816. or smaller

  1817. for 20

  1818. years.

  1819. I think,

  1820. you know,

  1821. what helps

  1822. a person

  1823. serve a

  1824. smaller group

  1825. of people

  1826. for 20

  1827. years?

  1828. Inspiration

  1829. can help

  1830. you for a

  1831. year or

  1832. two.

  1833. We're

  1834. inspired,

  1835. we're

  1836. acknowledging,

  1837. we're

  1838. starring,

  1839. it's a

  1840. startup

  1841. company,

  1842. we're

  1843. all in,

  1844. we're

  1845. 70

  1846. hours a

  1847. week,

  1848. and what

  1849. happens over

  1850. time?

  1851. What

  1852. sustains

  1853. service over

  1854. time?

  1855. We know

  1856. it's a

  1857. God that

  1858. loves us

  1859. like this,

  1860. a God

  1861. that claims

  1862. us like

  1863. this,

  1864. a God

  1865. that's been

  1866. gracious to

  1867. us like

  1868. this.

  1869. So

  1870. serving,

  1871. you will

  1872. have no

  1873. regrets in

  1874. doing this.

  1875. Brothers and

  1876. sisters,

  1877. God loves

  1878. to love

  1879. us.

  1880. He rejoices

  1881. over you

  1882. with loud

  1883. singing.

  1884. Let this

  1885. be the

  1886. controlling

  1887. factor,

  1888. the compass,

  1889. the animating

  1890. effect in

  1891. your life

  1892. that sets

  1893. direction for

  1894. you.

  1895. More with

  1896. young audience.

  1897. Probably

  1898. ambitions.

  1899. Nothing

  1900. wrong with

  1901. jobs and

  1902. careers.

  1903. Nothing

  1904. wrong with

  1905. saving.

  1906. But what's

  1907. really

  1908. aiming,

  1909. what's

  1910. really

  1911. informing

  1912. your

  1913. priorities?

  1914. What

  1915. will

  1916. drive

  1917. your

  1918. priorities

  1919. at the

  1920. end of

  1921. the day?

  1922. Pray for

  1923. the children

  1924. in this

  1925. church,

  1926. and children

  1927. will grow up

  1928. and become

  1929. youth groups

  1930. on that.

  1931. You want

  1932. them to

  1933. see Christ

  1934. as the

  1935. most valuable

  1936. thing in

  1937. the world.

  1938. That's the

  1939. life, that's

  1940. what you're

  1941. building right

  1942. now.

  1943. That's the

  1944. example you

  1945. will set.

  1946. Thank you

  1947. for your

  1948. example.

  1949. Thank you

  1950. for what

  1951. you are

  1952. doing to

  1953. establish a

  1954. gospel presence

  1955. in Cambridge.

  1956. May that

  1957. gospel presence

  1958. in Cambridge

  1959. grow to

  1960. other

  1961. neighborhoods in

  1962. Cambridge and

  1963. beyond.

  1964. May the day

  1965. we say,

  1966. man, we've got

  1967. four churches

  1968. in the world.

  1969. It's all

  1970. many more

  1971. than that.

  1972. Many more

  1973. than that.

  1974. God's love

  1975. to us

  1976. informs us.

  1977. He loves

  1978. you.

  1979. He loves

  1980. to love

  1981. you.

  1982. Please

  1983. hear that.

  1984. And I'm

  1985. going to

  1986. close with

  1987. this quote

  1988. from Charles

  1989. Spurgeon.

  1990. this is what

  1991. Charles Spurgeon

  1992. says.

  1993. Let us

  1994. show to the

  1995. people of the

  1996. world.

  1997. Everybody

  1998. is watching

  1999. you.

  2000. wondering,

  2001. why would

  2002. you give?

  2003. I mean,

  2004. my word.

  2005. You're giving

  2006. how much

  2007. to a

  2008. church?

  2009. Why would

  2010. you serve?

  2011. Why are

  2012. certain people

  2013. today's a

  2014. hot one?

  2015. Why would

  2016. you be in

  2017. church on

  2018. Sunday morning?

  2019. It's your

  2020. day off.

  2021. What else

  2022. could you be

  2023. doing?

  2024. Let us

  2025. show to

  2026. the people

  2027. of the

  2028. world,

  2029. those people

  2030. that ask us

  2031. those questions,

  2032. who think

  2033. our religion

  2034. to be

  2035. slavery,

  2036. becoming a

  2037. Christian,

  2038. very limiting,

  2039. very legalistic,

  2040. who start to

  2041. have assumptions

  2042. about our

  2043. religion.

  2044. Let us

  2045. show to the

  2046. people of

  2047. the world

  2048. who think

  2049. our religion

  2050. to be

  2051. slavery,

  2052. that it

  2053. is to us

  2054. a delight

  2055. and a joy.

  2056. Let our

  2057. gladness

  2058. proclaim,

  2059. let our

  2060. gladness

  2061. proclaim,

  2062. that we

  2063. serve a

  2064. good

  2065. master,

  2066. one who

  2067. loves to

  2068. love his

  2069. people.

  2070. That's

  2071. fine.

  2072. God, I

  2073. thank you

  2074. for grace

  2075. that was

  2076. moving by

  2077. your love

  2078. for,

  2079. well, not

  2080. just for

  2081. Israel,

  2082. a nation

  2083. you call

  2084. those,

  2085. really

  2086. called

  2087. them out

  2088. of darkness.

  2089. There was a

  2090. time when

  2091. Abraham

  2092. didn't know

  2093. you,

  2094. didn't care,

  2095. and he

  2096. you revealed

  2097. yourself and

  2098. called into

  2099. your own

  2100. heart.

  2101. And in

  2102. God, you

  2103. made a

  2104. nation,

  2105. you made a

  2106. nation, not

  2107. a nation to

  2108. be just a

  2109. nation, but a

  2110. nation to

  2111. be a

  2112. light to

  2113. the world.

  2114. And God,

  2115. you've done

  2116. that through

  2117. Jesus Christ

  2118. now.

  2119. We thank you

  2120. that you

  2121. love us.

  2122. Lord, we

  2123. want to be

  2124. sanctified, we

  2125. want to grow

  2126. in holiness,

  2127. we want to

  2128. reflect who

  2129. Jesus is on

  2130. the earth,

  2131. we want our

  2132. lives to be

  2133. upright and

  2134. godly,

  2135. so that

  2136. those who

  2137. align us,

  2138. Lord, have

  2139. no standing

  2140. against us.

  2141. Lord, it's

  2142. all fueled

  2143. by how you

  2144. love us.

  2145. Lord, your

  2146. love is

  2147. generous,

  2148. gracious,

  2149. consistent,

  2150. and unchanging.

  2151. Lord, the

  2152. thing that you

  2153. delight in us

  2154. tomorrow morning,

  2155. we wake up

  2156. and we say

  2157. our sins are

  2158. not counted

  2159. against us

  2160. if we have

  2161. faith in

  2162. Jesus Christ

  2163. and we've

  2164. been humble

  2165. enough to

  2166. say, I

  2167. need a

  2168. savior and

  2169. I have

  2170. one in

  2171. Jesus.

  2172. But tomorrow

  2173. morning we

  2174. can wake up

  2175. and say,

  2176. oh, now my

  2177. sins are not

  2178. counted against

  2179. me, but God

  2180. has made me

  2181. his own.

  2182. I am his

  2183. child, I

  2184. am a daughter

  2185. or a son,

  2186. and I belong

  2187. to God, and

  2188. he will never

  2189. leave me nor

  2190. forsake me,

  2191. and he will

  2192. rejoice over

  2193. me with

  2194. sin, with

  2195. delight.

  2196. Thank you

  2197. that you are

  2198. that kind

  2199. of God, and

  2200. may we serve

  2201. you as that

  2202. kind of God.

  2203. We pray this

  2204. in Jesus' name.

  2205. Amen.

  2206. Amen.

  2207. Amen.

  2208. Amen.

  2209. Amen.

  2210. Amen.

  2211. Amen.

  2212. Amen.

  2213. Amen.

  2214. Amen.

  2215. Amen.

  2216. Amen.

  2217. Amen.

  2218. Amen.

  2219. Amen.

  2220. Amen.

  2221. Amen.
