Why The Fire - Men's Summer Grill Event

I'm going to get into the Word for just a little while and we're going to give time for the Holy Ghost to do what he wants to do.

And we've had good fellowship.

I've just enjoyed visiting with many of you and I just love times like this.

It's been a long time since we've had just a men's exclusive event and from the way this is turning out so far, I mean we might need to do this again.

I mean, praise God.

We just want to do what the Holy Ghost says.

Glory to God.

Thank you, come, let's lift our hands again.

Father, we thank you for the Holy Ghost tonight.

You said you know John the Baptist said about Jesus.

He said he'll baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire.

Baptist said about Jesus.

He said he'll baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire.

And on the day of Pentecost, lord, you had you.

You sit that that manifestation cloven tongues like as a fire and sat on each of them.

And we don't have that manifestation of fire like cloven tongues of fire, but we have the fire, the inner fire that's on the inside of all of us that have given our hearts to Jesus and especially those of us that have received the baptism of the Holy Ghost.

We have that fire.

We stir it up tonight.

We stir up that fire.

Hallelujah In Jesus' name.

Most of you didn't bring your bibles.

It's okay, I mean, we didn't tell you to, you know to, but uh, I brought mine.

So I'm gonna, I'm gonna preach right out of the Bible.

If you brought your Bible, great, you got your cell phone, you've got a Bible.

Probably I'm gonna read out of Exodus, chapter 3 and verse 1.

Now Moses kept the flock of Jethro, his father-in-law, the priest of Midian, and he led the flock to the backside of the desert and came to the mountain of God, even to Horeb, and the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush.

And he looked and behold, the bush burned with fire and the bush was not consumed.

And Moses said I will now turn aside and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt.

And when the Lord saw that, he turned aside to see.

And when the Lord saw that he turned aside to see, god called unto him out of the midst of the bush and said Moses, moses.

And he said here am I.

And he said draw not nigh hither, pull off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place where on thou standest is holy ground.

Moreover, he said I am the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of Jacob, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob.

And Moses hid his face, for he was afraid to look upon God.

And the Lord said I have surely seen the affliction of my people which are in Egypt.

I have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters, for I know their sorrows Everybody shout and and to bring them into or up out of that land, unto a good land and a large, unto a land flowing with milk and honey, unto the place of the Canaanites and the Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, the Jebusites, the Budlites, all the Ites, termites.

And now, therefore, behold the cry of the children of Israel is come unto me, and I have also seen the oppression wherewith the Egyptians oppressed them.

Come now, therefore, and I will send thee unto Pharaoh that thou mayest bring forth my people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt.

And Moses said unto God, who am I, who am I?

That I should go unto Pharaoh and that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt.

And he said.

God said, certainly I will be with thee and this shall be a sign unto thee that I have sent thee.

When thou hast brought forth the people out of Egypt, you shall serve God upon this mountain.

And Moses said unto God behold, when I come into the children of Israel and shall say unto them, the God of your fathers hath sent me unto you, and they shall say to me what is his name, what shall I say unto them?

And God said unto Moses I am that I am unto them.

And God said unto Moses I am that I am.

And he said thus shall you say unto the children of Israel I am hath sent me unto you.

And God said, moreover, unto Moses, thou shalt say unto the children of Israel the Lord, god of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, the God of Jacob, hath sent me unto you and this is my name forever and this is my memorial unto all generations.

So we see here that Moses inquired about the fire.

Why the fire?

That's the message title tonight.

Why the fire?

You know, this is kind of what we sang about tonight.

It's kind of the theme of our men's summer grill had a picture of fire up there, the meat on the fire, praise God, and why the fire?

Moses, an awesome prophet, he was a type of Christ.

In fact, in Acts, chapter 7, stephen, who was an usher you know he was not a preacher, he was not an apostle, he was just one of the five original deacons and you know they were waiting on tables and there was a lot of disorder and a lot of stuff going on.

The apostle said it's not reason that we should, you know, leave the Word of God and serve tables.

Look among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, report over this business, and one of them was Stephen, the other one was Philip and there were five others.

But Stephen went and preached.

Later on he preached to the Jews, the same people that crucified Jesus, and he preached the Word and he said that he called the children of Israel the church in the wilderness.

So Moses was the head of the church in the wilderness.

He's a proper.

You know, if the children of Israel were the type of the church, then it's proper to look at him as Moses, as the type of Christ, and he was certainly sent to his people.

And so you know he was called there while he was on the backside of the desert and he had been there 40 years.

If you go back and read Exodus, and he wrote it later.

Moses wrote Exodus and I don't know why he didn't learn from Jacob.

You know, jacob worked for Laban 14 years before he wised up and became a rich man, when he started doing things God's way.

But poor old Moses here worked for 40 years for Jethro and he's still poor.

You know, the best way to get poor is to disobey God.

The best way to go broke is to disobey God.

But Stephen also had revelation about Moses that when he was 40 years old it came into his heart to be the deliverer of Israel.

But the thing about Moses, when you read about him, is he had a temper problem.

I know none of you men have anything that you're working on, but his was temper.

I mean, he just had a white-hot temper.

He'd lose his temper in a moment, you know, and just go off into crazy land.

And it came into his heart that he was the deliverer of Egypt.

He was raised as a son of Pharaoh's daughter, he was drawn out of the water and he was Jewish.

He didn't know that until he got to be an adult, he found out that the Jewish people who were slaves were his people and he started getting be an adult.

He found out that the Jewish people who were slaves were his people and he started getting interested in them and it came in his heart that they needed to deliver.

They needed to end this.

He had a heart for his people and he saw an Egyptian beating one of his countrymen and he got mad at that Egyptian and murdered him and hid the body.

He looked this way and looked that way and he killed him in his anger and buried the body in the sand.

And then the next day two of the Jews were fighting among each other, and so he's trying to set them right with each other, trying to solve their disagreement.

He says what are you going to do with us?

You want to kill us, like you did the Egyptian yesterday?

And so Pharaoh found out about it and he ran at 40 years of age.

He ran from Pharaoh, he ran from his ministry and ran from God all the way to Midian, all the way to Jethro's house, where he met Jethro's daughter, zipporah, and he married.

And here he is, 40 years later, and he's still watching Jethro's sheep man.

I mean, that's pretty bad.

He didn't have any ownership and so, you know, he was no longer interested in the cries of Israel.

He wasn't thinking about them.

All of a sudden, all he's doing all day long is watching somebody else's sheep, and God came to him and let him know what was going on that he wasn't thinking about.

We're living in a time when people are discombobulated, they're deceived, they're hurting.

People are I mean, we're letting our borders wide open and many of those people that are coming across the border mean harm to us.

The balance of them all are in great need.

Some of them are being trafficked.

I mean, this is an unprecedented time in which we're living, and not unlike the time that we're read about tonight.

And so are we going to respond.

Moses, you know, had to have God come ring his bell.

The children of Israel.

They were crying, you know.

God told him there.

We read it.

Listen, I've heard the cries, I've seen their tears, I know their sorrows and I am come down.

Well, guess what?

He's here, and he's here inside of each one of us.

So why the fire?

See, moses first responded to the fire and in the fire he found out the why he responded to the fire and he found out the why Moses understood.

He got illumination in the fire and he found out the why Moses understood.

He got illumination in the fire, he got illumination, or you could say he got revelation.

God deals with us through revelation.

It's not head knowledge, it's heart knowledge.

It's when God shines his light.

I like the Psalm 1828, you know, the Lord has lit my candle, he's enlightened my darkness.

And Proverbs 20, 27,.

The spirit of the man is a candle or lamp of the Lord and it enlightens all the inward parts of the belly or of the spirit.

That's how God has designed us.

To hear from him is through illumination of our spirit.

And so I want to give you three things that the fire revealed to Moses, and Moses understood these three things, and I think all of us here need to think about these three things.

And I think all of us here need to think about these three things.

The first thing that I see is that Moses understood in the fire.

He understood his purpose, and it was not to watch Jethro's sheep.

I mean, he took him back to where God had.

It came into his heart, in other words, it came into Moses' spirit, that he was a deliverer, and he denied that.

I mean he let circumstances blot that out.

You know, god called me to preach when I was four years old.

I mean we don't think too much about four-year-olds knowing much, but you know, their little spirits are alive to God.

And even though I was in a Catholic church at the time, our Lady of Refuge Catholic Church, I mean, excuse me, our Lady of Fatima Refuge was in Refugio.

Fatima was in Glenham Park, but anyway I was in that little church.

I drove by it a few years ago.

It's just like a little old, you know.

You remember things in your kid, you think they're big.

I rode by this little dinky building.

It's a concrete block building.

The roof is caved in.

I mean, it's all weeds growing up in front of it.

They built another church next door and they just left it alone.

It kind of reminds you of the Astrodome.

We just left it alone, you know.

But anyway that was where God spoke to me and called me and I thought it meant priest.

I mean, I'm a Catholic boy.

I'm thinking if he's called me to minister, it must be to be a priest.

Well, you know, it didn't take me long to discover Gladys in junior high, and that's just true.

I mean, all thoughts of being a priest left me right then when I saw her.

We had one of those junior high things and it lasted.

It was going to be 56 years at the end of this month.

But he understood his purpose.

It was not to fiddle around out there with Jethro's sheep.

He understood his purpose and that was so that fire penetrated.

You know, I'm so glad that the fire penetrated the meat tonight.

The meat was so good, all the meat.

You guys.

I want to congratulate all our pit masters, the cooking that they did.

But you know you don't get a brisket by throwing it in, you know, in a microwave for 30 minutes.

You know, slap a't get a brisket by throwing it in a microwave for 30 minutes.

You know, slap a little barbecue sauce on it.

You might try to eat it.

But you get that thing on a proper pit and you low and slow and it gives that meat time for the smoke and the heat to penetrate and it goes down into the innards of that.

You know you take an old brisket.

I mean, if you cook it fast, well it just doesn't get tender and you burn the outside before the inside really gets tender and then it's just a man.

It's terrible and you can tell somebody that knows how to cook one, because they've made a lot of mistakes to get to that place, they've thrown a lot of meat away to get to that place and uh, and so that's he.

He got in there and it wasn't that long that he was in.

God See, this is supernatural fire.

This is the kind of fire that will come into you and reverse years of disobedience.

It will dissolve years of bad habits and excuses.

This is a time for men like us to lead.

We have to lead our families.

We have to lead our children and grandchildren.

Our wives need a head, those of you that are married we've got some young unmarrieds that are here.

Some of you are going to get married and women need a head.

You know, women are like kindling when they get on fire they flame up and then they die down just almost immediately.

But the man is supposed to be like the backlog on the fire.

I mean the man is hot and stays hot and never goes out.

He's providing the heat that's needed in the home for his wife and his children.

He's always on fire.

He might not be flaming, but he's always on fire.

That's the heat that will penetrate anything.

Your purpose, our purpose, is to preach the gospel to every creature.

We're doing that, even the creatures that are in the political realm.

In Acts 26, this same fire that Moses was exposed to, and again, it didn't take long.

I don't know how long he was up there on that mount, it didn't take long.

Things changed Again.

It's supernatural.

But in Acts 26, paul is giving his testimony of how he got saved on the road to Damascus and he's giving it to King Agrippa.

And uh, and you know, the Lord appeared to him on the way to Damascus and it was such a bright light, such a bright fire, that he was blinded and knocked off of his horse and hit on the ground blind.

He got his sight three days later when Ananias the disciple laid hands on him.

But in the meantime he's blind and he said verse 15, and I said who art thou Lord?

And he said I am Jesus, whom thou persecutest, but rise and stand upon your feet, for I have appeared unto you for this purpose.

The fire revealed to Paul his purpose.

He thought his purpose was to hail Christians off to jail and to kill them.

He held the garments of those who stoned Stephen to death.

He thought that was his purpose.

But in the fire see the same kind of fire that dealt with Moses, the same kind of fire that's here tonight.

There's fire in this room for us to discover our purpose if we haven't Listen.

I've met lots of men over the years and some men live and die and never discover their purpose.

I don't want that to be said of anybody in this, in this place.

What a waste to go through your whole life, especially now we're living in the last of the last days.

I believe this is the terminal generation.

I believe this generation is going to see the Lord come and not to discover your purpose.

What if Moses didn't care enough to even inquire about that burning bush?

What if he just looked at that and said, wow, that looks pretty crazy.

What's for supper Zipporah?

You got some lamb stew there.

Supper Zipporah, you got some lamb stew there.

I mean no, he turned aside to see.

And when the Lord saw that, he turned aside to see.

That's when he revealed his purpose.

And so Paul said Jesus told him rise and stand upon your feet.

I've appeared to you for this purpose, to make thee a minister and a witness, both of these things which you have seen and of those things in which I will appear unto thee delivering thee from the people and from the Gentiles unto whom now I send thee.

Now he's a let's back up here.

Paul is a Jew.

He is a Pharisee of Pharisees.

He's educated at the feet of Gamaliel.

Do you know what Jews call Gentiles Dogs?

I've chosen you, paul.

You're going to minister to the dogs.

I mean, he probably wasn't thrilled.

His mind probably had a hard time understanding that, just as much as we discovered.

Moses' mind gave him some trouble.

We'll talk more about his.

He had a lot of questions covered.

He'd been conditioned for 40 years.

Some of us have been conditioned a long time to live the way we live and maybe now is the time that we need to get in the fire of God and let God redirect, repurpose, re-examine our priorities.

He said I'm delivering you from the people, from the Gentiles unto whom I now send thee.

What does it mean?

To deliver you?

From the people You're delivered.

From the care of whether they like you or not, you're delivered from the care of their criticism.

You can't minister to people if you're worried about what they think, what their opinion is.

You're charged with giving them the truth, to open their eyes and to turn them from darkness to light and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and inheritance among them, which are sanctified by faith that is in me.

And then he said whereupon, o King Agrippa, I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision.

But going back to Moses, this magnificent experience of the fire on the mount where God gave him his purpose, it was so strong, it so illuminated Moses that from that point forward he kept on through failure, through disappointment and betrayal.

I mean, his own brother and sister were talking about him.

They said, oh, he's married a dark woman.

See the Jewish people.

They look down their nose at people just like everybody else does.

Everybody looks down their nose at somebody.

That's the flesh.

The flesh looks at people that are different and they criticize them because they're afraid of anything that's different.

Are different and they criticize them because they're afraid of anything that's different.

People that have mental issues, autism, all kind of learning disabilities, you know.

Many times they're mistreated.

Why?

Because people don't know how to react, and people are insecure, and so they persecute what they don't understand.

It's just human nature.

Thank God, we're spirit beings.

We can do better, right, moses never kept, never turned back.

He failed Really, if you really want to know the truth about it.

His ministry failed Because God told him to do two things deliver his people and bring them in too.

He delivered them out of Egypt, but he didn't bring them in too.

So I think you could say that he didn't quite make the grade, and you have to say, well, it was probably his temper.

The thing that kept him out of the promised land was when he struck the rock the second time.

God told him to strike the rock the first time and water gushed out and watered three million people.

But the next time they thirsted.

God said okay, go to that rock, the same rock, go up, but this time speak to the rock.

And Moses was so angry at the children of Israel, he was so mad at them and he said you rebels.

And he struck the rock and he disobeyed God.

Guess what?

God backed him up and the water flowed anyway, but for Moses that was a sin.

Why?

Well, because the Bible is filled with types and shadows, the type of Christ being struck once.

Christ died one time for all sin.

So when he struck the rock the second time, it violated the top and shadow of the death of Christ only once.

You know, jesus didn't have to keep on dying and keep on dying and keep on dying.

Amen, he did it one time.

He did it right the first time.

Okay, so we have illuminated about his purpose.

Everybody say my purpose, his being illuminated, all right.

Then the second thing God was God's plan.

God has a plan, we have plans, but our plans are faulty.

We need to take the time to find out what God's plan is and God's plan.

Briefly, if you keep reading, he said you know, go and tell the elders of Israel, meet with them and say I am sent you, that's his plan.

So he said tell them.

He said tell them.

So he had to use words, he had to speak.

Just tell them I sent you, I am sent you, and then go tell Pharaoh let my people go, and he's not going to, and when he doesn't, I'm going to smite Egypt.

Now, that was a simple plan, right?

Simple plan.

You know, we've got something to say and we haven't said it, which is why the nation is in such a mess.

Church has been silent on the issues that we're facing.

It's been silent for a long time.

On abortion Now, there were certain segments of the church that were bold, but a lot of the church was silent, didn't want to get into an argument.

Well, you know, don't want to have any conflict, let's hide.

Let's hide behind our church walls, don't say anything about gay marriage.

And now what have we got?

We've got open pedophilia being about to be legitimized and if you say anything against it, you can.

You know they got it.

They got on a trip during the COVID thing and all the masks and all that stuff.

All of that's been disproven, by the way.

Every bit of it has been.

I mean, it's all scientific garbage.

That's why it makes me mad every time I see somebody with a mask on.

Have you not?

Do you not keep up?

I mean, can't you understand?

That doesn't work.

It's fear.

And the church?

Just, you know, we sued the state and we opened all the way during COVID and so many churches.

They had the same opportunity in Texas and didn't do it.

Gave you religious ideas why they didn't?

Well, I'm not them.

I'll have to stand before the Lord.

They will too.

I wouldn't want to swap places.

We have something to say.

God sent us God, he gave us a message, he gave us a plan.

I didn't know this church was going to be so politically active, but that's part of waking up the church.

The church has not been politically active.

We bought the live separation of church and state.

We just went down the road, and if we don't get things changed in November, I mean, you know how much more time have we got the light that shines furthest, shines brightest at home?

This is the only nation under it's the most criticized nation, second only to Israel, for all the good this nation has done, for all the treasure it has spent, all the lives, the blood we have shed on foreign soil protecting other people's stuff, rebuilding their cities.

Every time I see one of these modern European cities with all their you know subways and their buses and their brand new buildings, I think how much of that is our money?

Sorry, I'm sorry.

I think that way I guess we get no gratitude.

They still look down their nose.

Listen, folks.

We got to change some things and the church is the one to do it.

The church has got to rise up.

His plan, his plan, I mean, he doesn't want any of these people to go to hell.

He wants them to hear from the church.

Then, if they can make their decision, if they make their decision and say, oh, church is outdated, the Bible's outdated, well then they've heard and then they've rejected.

But our job is to give them the message.

We're going to proclaim this all the way through every state capital and the nation's capital and everybody.

We're going to go everywhere we can go.

Everybody say God's plan.

And the third thing that he became aware of was God's power, because he'd been devoid of power, remember.

I mean he ran for his life and he's been on the backside of the desert.

He spends all day long talking to sheep and he was on the backside there, no telling how long it had been, since he'd been home at a home-cooked meal.

He's out there.

Shepherds don't come and go, they stay with the sheep all the time and it's desert land so they don't have any pastures right next to their house.

So the house is over here and it might be 10 miles that way where they've got the sheep and he doesn't have time to come back and forth.

He spent a lot of time away from his wife and kids the only people he talks to is just very infrequently and so he began to ask God.

He said okay, god, you're sending me to my.

You have to keep reading in that chapter and the next chapter, but if you do, you'll find out.

He didn't just accept God at that first thing, he kept discussing.

So it tells me that God is okay.

We can inquire of God what he means and get him to give us a little bit more information to run on, say okay, god, you know they're not going to believe me.

When I stand up there and say I am sent me, they're going to say, no, he didn't, he didn't appear to you.

You're full of it.

We're not believing that.

What do you want me to do then?

What do you want me to do then when they won't believe me?

He said what's that in your hand?

He said it's a rod.

Throw it down on the ground and it became a serpent and he ran from it.

It must have been a biting one, I mean he ran from his own rod and then God said okay, pick it up by the tail.

Now see, this is where faith comes in.

He picked that thing up by the tail.

Nobody picks up a snake by the tail unless you want to get bit right.

So he had to have enough faith to believe God to pick that snake up by the tail, and when he did, it became a rod.

He said yeah, you just do that in front of your elders of Israel.

And he said what if they don't believe that?

He said well, lift your hand up Now, put it in your bosom and draw it out.

And it was white with leprosy.

And he said okay, put your hand back in your bosom and draw it out again.

Now it's normal.

He said so I've given you these two signs to give to the elders of Israel, so that they'll know that I am has sent you and peradventure.

The first two signs aren't enough.

Then I want you to take of the river and take of the water of the river in a vessel and pour it out on the ground, and that water will turn into blood, and by these three supernatural signs you will have what you need to tell the elders of Israel and also Pharaoh, because Pharaoh's not going to let you go anyway.

And then I'm going to smite Egypt.

So then he said God, look, come on, man, I mean I don't have the ability.

I stutter.

I'm used to talking to sheep, I'm not used to talking to people.

I can't talk.

See, this went on, this discussion went on.

He didn't just buy into everything God was telling him.

Sometimes we don't either.

Don't look so innocent.

Sometimes God starts dealing with us in a certain direction and we just start backing up and oh, I can't do that, I can't do that, I'm not like, I don't have that kind of personality.

Backing up and, oh, I can't do that, I can't do, I'm not like, I don't have that kind of person, I can't do that, I can't.

So he, he said I can't talk, you're gonna have to get somebody else.

He said well, I know, aaron, your brother can talk.

I know he can talk.

He will be to you a mouth and you will be to him as God.

Well, when I read that 45 years ago, I couldn't believe what I was reading that my Bible said that God said that Moses would be to his brother as God.

And that doesn't mean he was God, it just means that God is not talking to Aaron at all.

Aaron gets all of his orders from Moses, and Moses is the contact point.

Are y'all with me now?

See, just think about the privilege that we have.

We don't have to have somebody else talk for us.

We don't have to have anybody else hear from God for us.

We don't need a prophet to tell us what God is saying.

We have equipment on the inside of us and besides that, we have power.

Which is one reason why the church's voice has been so discounted is because the church has been devoid of signs and wonders and confirming miracles for so long.

So much of the church just goes along with the argument, with the ability to have a homily or a fancy sermon or whatever.

Look, we need signs and wonders and we have them available.

The fire of God brought it all out and said you've got the goods to back up what you're saying.

And when you keep reading about the dynamic between Aaron, who was a weak man.

He didn't raise his kids right.

He didn't correct his sister when she started criticizing her brother.

He made the idols when Moses was up on the mount.

All they had to do was ask him, and he did it willingly.

He was weak.

See, god uses all kind of people.

Some of them are not perfect.

Some of them listen, they're imperfect vessels, but there is a perfect vessel.

His name is Jesus and he can enable us, in spite of all of the personal failings we might have.

So when you read about their dynamic, you know the first time, or so you know Moses told Aaron what to say.

And then, by the second time, moses just I mean you didn't hear Aaron saying anything Moses did the whole thing, moses took over and Moses was Moses.

Moses did all the talking to Pharaoh, moses did all the talking to the children of Israel, because you know he could recognize that Aaron is too soft, he's not bold enough, and that's true, because he didn't have the revelation.

He didn't have the revelation, and so this fire brought a revelation, or an understanding of God's power and his willingness, and we have that power in greater measure today.

In John, chapter 14, he said the works that I do.

He's talking to the disciples.

On the night before he was crucified, he said the works that I do shall you do also, and greater works than they shall you do, because I go to my Father.

If you'll ask, if you'll ask anything in my name, it will be done so that the Father will be glorified in the Son.

If you ask anything in my name, I will do it.

And really, those verses there are not talking about prayer.

They're talking about making a demand.

Ask means make a demand.

Think about the man at the Gate, beautiful, who had been lame for 40 years.

They didn't pray for him.

Who had been lame for 40 years, they didn't pray for him.

They didn't ask God to heal him.

All Peter said is in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.

And when he didn't move fast enough, peter yanked him up by the hand, picked him up and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength and he went walking and leaping and praising God into the temple.

Was that prayer?

No, that was a greater work.

That was a work of making a demand in the name of Jesus.

We need to make some demands on the devil.

We need to make some demands on the mountains that we're facing.

We need to make some demands on this poverty and lack that is attacking us through inflation and all of the crazy rules and all the weighted, you know, finger on the scales and the federal government getting involved in private businesses and trying to create a market for things that nobody wants.

It doesn't fit most people in Houston, I mean, you've got to drive too far to use an electric car, so it's so stupid.
