  1. Thank you for the worship tonight.

  2. Thank you for your voice is tonight.

  3. Sometimes when we have music and it's powerful and we have gifted

  4. people, it can almost you can almost distract us from

  5. participating. And so, every time I'm up here

  6. and I hear the voices behind me, it's always an encouragement.

  7. It's always a bomb to my soul. So thank you for singing

  8. tonight. And now we're going to continue

  9. to Worship in the hearing of God's word.

  10. And so if you have your Bibles meet First Samuel chapter 22 as

    1 Samuel 22 chapter mention

  11. we continue in our Bible study in this wonderful exciting

  12. riveting. Portion of scripture in the

  13. library of God's word, we're going to pray again and we're

  14. going to read the first five verses because that's all we're

  15. going to discuss tonight, and it will be enough.

  16. I hope I'm sure that it will be enough especially if we

  17. participate and engage with the text.

  18. So, let's just pray one more time as we, as we come before

  19. God and His word. Lord, we are.

  20. Humbled, we are so, Hungry for your word.

  21. We thank you that we can sit in a place like this and look to

  22. our left and to the right and see people with Bibles and their

  23. hands. And with eagerness in their

  24. hearts to receive your word and we pray that we would sense your

  25. voice. That this Bible study would not

  26. be muddied by opinion. It would not be muddied by the

  27. the the weaknesses of a vessel. That is not depending on you.

  28. But Lord, we depend on you, I depend on you and we ask Lord

  29. for the sake of your name, navigate and lead us through

  30. this. Portion of scripture, the way

  31. you intended it to be delivered, to the Saints.

  32. We give you all the glory and thinks that we have your word at

  33. our disposal. We do not take it for granted,

  34. but more importantly, though, we asked you would help us obey it

  35. to really obey it. We trust in you tonight in Jesus

  36. name, amen. First one.

  37. David departed from there and escaped to the cave of Adam.

  38. And when his brothers and all his father's house, heard it,

  39. they went down there to him and everyone who is in distress and

  40. everyone who was in debt and everyone who was bitter insole

  41. gather to him and he became Commander over them.

  42. And there are with them about 400 men and David went from

  43. there to misbah of Moab. And he said to the king of Moab,

  44. please let my father and my mother stay with you.

  45. Till I know what God will do for me, and he left them with the

  46. king of Moab and stayed with him all the time.

  47. That David was in the stronghold.

  48. Then the prophet God said to David, do not remain in the

  49. stronghold depart and go into the land of Judah.

  50. So David departed and went into the forest of harith.

  51. Now last week we touched on first Samuel, 21.

  52. And first Samuel 21 was the introduction to a new season and

  53. David's life up to that point. We heard of David, The Humble

  54. Shepherd of Israel. Then we discovered David, the

  55. the unexpected hero of Israel. And now we see David as The

  56. Fugitive of Israel and in chapter 21, we are introduced to

  57. the first steps of David as an exile as an outlaw.

  58. And as we examine those verses, we came to the humble

  59. conclusion, that David did not prove himself.

  60. As praiseworthy. He was driven by much fear.

  61. He was driven by much anxiety and it showed itself because he

  62. just lied and lied and lied. And we look at that and we think

  63. this, this is not seem like the same man that we witnessed a few

  64. chapters earlier, who stood before towering Philistine and

  65. with a slingshot and simple Faith overcame. and now we see

  66. David fearful of King Saul and I believe that that speaks of the

  67. complexities of our weaknesses as individuals, I just find an

  68. amazing you could stand before a giant and not hesitate to move

  69. forward and to fight him. But when it came to King Saul,

  70. You running away. And you're lying, and you're

  71. sinning, and you're pretending, and you're using fleshly ideas

  72. to try to accomplish things. And we think this is

  73. inconsistent, but we should not be quick to condemn the man

  74. because it describes again, many of us.

  75. There's some perhaps in this room that are that are more

  76. inclined to be fearful about anything, that poses a threat,

  77. even your own shadow scares. You sometimes, whereas there are

  78. others who who are generally courageous, but when it comes to

  79. certain circumstances they they fall the crush their confused,

  80. the thrown into bewilderment but no matter what our disposition

  81. is, no matter what the meter of fear is in your life, it is

  82. God's will for all of us that whatever fear visits us, it

  83. would bow to the faith that you have in the one who is in

  84. control of all things, that's God's will fear.

  85. Should be a foreign feeling to us, but God is gracious.

  86. As we see with David that even though it might be a familiar

  87. thing, he takes his time to work on us until becomes Concord And

  88. is submits to the truth that we are convinced of and David's

  89. going to learn that he's learning that quickly, he

  90. actually learns it. By the end of chapter 21, do you

  91. remember that he wrote to Psalms and light of his Escape of those

  92. men at God? He wrote two songs and those

  93. psalms proved that he had repented that after letting

  94. saliva slide down his beard and after trying to act like a crazy

  95. person so that they can just let him go.

  96. He realizes the foolishness of such a thing and he confesses to

  97. God, Lies have only brought me to this point.

  98. He doesn't say as directly as that, but you know, that he has

  99. turned from his ways and he chooses to trust in God, from

  100. that moment on and though we see it in those psalms we're going

  101. to actually see it in action as we come to chapter 22.

  102. So what do we read? What we read in verse 1.

  103. He escapes gath, he escapes the Philistines and he finds refuge

  104. in a cave in an area called Adam.

  105. And this alone shows us just how desperate things got for David

  106. because there was no other place that promised him security.

  107. There is no other Refuge that he can calculate in his mind that

  108. would be that would be enough for him.

  109. That would be safe for him. That would be a stronghold for

  110. him. So you know where he goes, he

  111. goes into a naturally craved hole in some area and some

  112. Wilderness and he tucks himself in there and the dark cold damp

  113. This of that thing. And it's a sad sight to us,

  114. isn't it? I mean, where's your family?

  115. You can't go to your wife. You can't go to your parents.

  116. You probably question the soldiers that you once worked

  117. with because they're under Saul's rule.

  118. Where do you go? And this man has settled and

  119. it's hard. I have to whether this all by

  120. myself and I'm not guessing, I'm not, I'm not trying to speculate

  121. here because we are told that, we know that David believe that

  122. this point I'm I have to do this all alone and he expresses that

  123. utter loneliness, would, you know, it in a Psalm that he

  124. wrote while in this cave? How many songs did David right

  125. in light of this chapter? Does anybody know?

  126. Two. Some 57 Psalm 142, you have your

  127. Bibles right? Let's go to Psalm 142 and let's

  128. see what he says in that. Psalm in light of this, this is

  129. why again, we read the entirety of scripture because we see the

  130. Glorious Harmony of the word of God Psalm 142, look at the title

  131. of his psalm. In verse 1, it says a masculine

  132. of David when he was in the cave a prayer.

  133. So just imagine David writing this out, crying out to God.

  134. As he is hiding in a cave and look what he says here in verse

  135. 4. He's praying to God, he's he's

  136. crying out to the Lord. Look to the right.

  137. And see there is none who takes notice of Me, no, refuge remains

  138. to me. No one cares for my soul.

  139. He's convinced of that and his circumstances seem to prove that

  140. I can't go anywhere as he's traveling from gath, he's

  141. thinking, where can I go? And because of such a destitute

  142. State, he is convinced nobody. Nobody cares for me, and I

  143. believe that although many people have experienced

  144. different levels of trauma. One of the greatest pains you

  145. can know in this life is when you have convinced yourself that

  146. you are not loved. We are relational creatures, God

  147. made us in His image, he is relational within himself and so

  148. you and I need contact with other humans, but not just

  149. contact with, I mean, help. We need to know that we are we

  150. are cared for and we are cherished.

  151. There's healing in that there is there's some sort of anchor in

  152. that. And David here, he believes that

  153. that is not the case. His circumstances have have told

  154. them and convince him otherwise. And so he's in this place where

  155. he's expressing himself to God, no one cares for my soul and I

  156. find that quite fascinating, because as he's expressing, the

  157. lack of compassion of those around him, he's speaking to the

  158. one who cares about him the most He's communicating his ache, but

  159. he's also coming to the one who will love him more than if all

  160. of Israel had come to his help. And that is one of the treasures

  161. that you and I have in Jesus Christ.

  162. That is one of the great jewels of the Gospel.

  163. Yes. Safe from the wrath of God.

  164. Yes, saved for heaven. Yes, saved from hell but also

  165. saved to be brought to God. And every single one of you in

  166. this place tonight, if you have put your faith in Jesus,

  167. genuinely, if you have repented and believed on God, you can

  168. claim a personal intimate relationship with the Risen Lord

  169. and because of your faith, you so honors, your faith that he

  170. has committed himself to you. As he did to David.

  171. He has committed himself, he is bound himself to you, not just

  172. to secure your salvation, but to govern your life and to lead

  173. you, and to shape you and to allow everything that comes

  174. against you to be filtered through his Sovereign purpose,

  175. so that it can only do good to you.

  176. So here's David though, sharing his pain.

  177. He's actually sharing it with the friend of friends.

  178. The one that will care for him the most and that's your

  179. inheritance in mind, in fact. we see that although he believes

  180. this at first, His beliefs are going to change by the end of

  181. the song. Look at the last verse, and what

  182. does he say here? As he pours out his heart?

  183. To God, he says, in verse 7, bring me out of prison that I

  184. may give thanks to your name. The righteous will surround me

  185. for, you will deal bountifully with me.

  186. That's the beauty of the Psalms because yes there are honest and

  187. yes we see the transparency of a man although he's a man of God

  188. of the Brokenness that he knows. But oftentimes in those psalms

  189. of lament, they end with faith. They end with a trust.

  190. A declaration of confidence in the Lord.

  191. And although you and I listen, you can discover a knowledge of

  192. Christ, not just theologically though that's important.

  193. And I just theoretically and not just through cramming certain

  194. verses together, but you can know, you can discover something

  195. about Jesus, where you tangibly know his faithfulness to you and

  196. it actually heals you and comforts you And Paul himself.

  197. That's not a foreign idea. Paul himself says in.

  198. Second Timothy, everyone has deserted me but the Lord stood

  199. by me. He wasn't just speaking into the

  200. air that he wasn't being poetic. He was like I really sense God's

  201. nearness to me even though my fellow missionaries have

  202. abandoned me those who have served have left me the Lord

  203. stood by me you can you can know Jesus that way.

  204. That's true in the old. That's true in the new, that's

  205. true today, but we cannot limit how God dispenses his comfort.

  206. We cannot be narrow in our understanding of how God

  207. manifests his goodness in your life and mine because God could

  208. have sent a torrent of peace to flood.

  209. The soul of David. But we realize that David here,

  210. recognizes how God is going to embrace him.

  211. And make his comfort known to him.

  212. Did you see it? The righteous will surround me

  213. for. You will deal bountifully with

  214. me. See what David realized, David

  215. made the connection that the actual physical emotional

  216. support that he would know from actual people was a direct

  217. expression of God's goodness. His life.

  218. In other words, the fact that David is going to as we read

  219. have his parents come to him and his brothers come to him.

  220. He sees that as God's direct means of comforting him.

  221. In other words, the righteous in David's life are God's provision

  222. for the relief in this pressing season.

  223. And you and I have to see it that way, we have to understand

  224. that this is how God's work that when you and I are surrounded by

  225. Christ. Honoring God fearing people who

  226. live to reflect his character. That is not disconnected from

  227. God. Loving you, that is not

  228. disconnect from God showing Mercy to you actually caring for

  229. you. So don't limit it to some

  230. mystical Supernatural experience, where you're

  231. showered with almost this coating that You're almost

  232. Untouchable, God can do that. But look what David says you're

  233. going to deal bountifully to me, I'm gonna know you're

  234. overwhelming favor because I'm going to be able to pick up my

  235. phone and call somebody and they're going to be able to give

  236. me some wisdom. Or I'm going to be visited by

  237. some people from church and they're going to, they're going

  238. to bring me food and they're going to sit beside me.

  239. And I see that as you dealing. So bountifully with me, And this

  240. is not just an idea. This is theological.

  241. This is true throughout scripture.

  242. You don't have to turn there but listen to what Paul says about

  243. his friend Titus, he says in 2nd Corinthians 7 6 but God who

  244. comforts the downcast. Now how would you finish that

  245. sentence? But God who comforts the

  246. downcast provides a peace that surpasses all understanding and

  247. he does opens your mind to understand the height the depth,

  248. the breadth of the love of Christ and he dies but it's not

  249. what Paul says. But God who comforts the

  250. downcast comforted Us by the Meaning of Titus.

  251. Titus showed up. Titus knocked on the door.

  252. Titus arrived. And as Titus came, his presence

  253. was a manifestation of God's comfort.

  254. To a downcast people. What I'm trying to communicate

  255. to you tonight, is that you would see God behind those acts

  256. of love. From familiar people.

  257. Hey, you would be able to identify God's personal care for

  258. you through things, that move your heart from those that you

  259. do life with. But you and I just think that

  260. person you and I just have a stir of affection for that

  261. individual, but you would be able to worship God even more.

  262. As you are, able to receive the encouragement and the life

  263. giving gifts of other people in your life.

  264. I hope you see that some of you have have gone through difficult

  265. seasons in life. And so what you did was you

  266. either reached out or someone reached out to you as a minister

  267. or counselor and they sat with you and they listen to you and

  268. they pray with you. Can I ask you something tonight?

  269. Did you Consider that that was God.

  270. Introducing that vessel into your life.

  271. Because God loved you in that season.

  272. Some of you have known the warmth and the healing of the

  273. Simplicity of the Believers presence in your living room.

  274. When you had a difficult week and them just sitting there and

  275. making you laugh brought relief to your heart but can I ask you?

  276. Did you recognize that? That was God dealing bountifully

  277. with you. because my Bible says, it is It is God's doing, it's

  278. not separated from his doing. See God through that.

  279. And you will know worship with a greater intensity that you

  280. didn't know before but this brings up another point that

  281. although God is responsible for the righteous who stand with us

  282. when we can barely stand. Our own, there is a

  283. responsibility that you and I carry.

  284. So let's go back to First same and we're still in verse 11.

  285. And look at verse 1, of chapter, 22, David departed from there

  286. and escaped. To the cave of Adam, we must

  287. read our Bible slowly and when his brothers and all his How's

  288. did, what? What did they do?

  289. They heard it. They heard about it.

  290. And when this news came to them, they went down there to him,

  291. this is for our instruction. Yes, God is responsible for

  292. those people in our lives, but there's a responsibility that

  293. you and I carry, and that is to be so aware of the situation and

  294. the circumstances, and the things that are brothers and

  295. sisters are enduring that when this news becomes known to us,

  296. it moves us to action that should be our reflex as the body

  297. of Christ. That should be our response.

  298. We should be so we should be so intricately woven together.

  299. In RIT that there is an immediate support.

  300. There's an immediate reaction of needing to know what to do to

  301. help. That's the beauty of the body of

  302. Christ. And, you know, there's a there's

  303. a portion in the Old Testament in the book of Exodus.

  304. It's it's after chapter VII given after chapter after

  305. chapter 15, chapters about the Tabernacle being built, and

  306. there's a little verse in there that never ceases to bless my

  307. heart and make me, pray, a certain prayer when I come to

  308. him because Moses receives the instructions for the Tabernacle

  309. and he even received the list of the materials and their costly

  310. materials, he makes it known to the nation of Israel and so

  311. every Go morning, the people of Israel, line up to give to the

  312. Craftsman, the material needed to make this structure possible.

  313. And something happens, at one point the support the

  314. contribution was so great. That the servants come to Moses

  315. and I want you to hear what they said.

  316. You don't have to turn there but just listen to these words in

  317. Exodus 30 65 They said to Moses, the people bring much more than

  318. enough for doing the work that the Lord has commanded us to do.

  319. So here's Pastor Moses. Standing there.

  320. Receiving instruction from Heaven about how to build this

  321. dwelling place for God, and the people are so excited.

  322. There's so in tune. They're so willing that it came

  323. to the point where the servants approach Moses said, hey Moses,

  324. you got to tell them to stop giving because we have more than

  325. enough and then we re later on that.

  326. He restrains, the people from bringing And every time I read,

  327. I say Lord may this church May. Our church have the same

  328. attitude when it comes to building your house in the New

  329. Covenant. the as we are the temple of God and as God is

  330. building us and and Furnishing us and fashioning us to be the

  331. bride that Jesus purchased That every time there is someone who

  332. is sick, weak broken, missing in need of assistance, the support

  333. would be overwhelming. I'm not talking about financial

  334. giving here. I'm talking about the, the

  335. stones that make up the house of God, not the physical structure.

  336. There's a time and place for that.

  337. I'm talking about as God is building this house, that

  338. whenever we see a piece missing broken that the support the

  339. participation would be so overwhelming that we would say

  340. brothers and sisters. So, and so asked, stop blowing

  341. up their phone. They're doing great.

  342. They're doing wonderful. Thank you.

  343. May that be The culture of MBC. God is able to do it, and that's

  344. what we see with them. They they heard that their

  345. brother Was in some obscure place all by himself and it move

  346. them to action and this brings up the second point of this

  347. verse. Yes, we see.

  348. We see that David realized that in his suffering God expresses

  349. his means of comfort in different ways but we also see

  350. the wisdom of God in suffering. Can anybody hear help us

  351. understand the family, dynamics of David and his household?

  352. What do we know about Dave and his household?

  353. How would you, how would you feel?

  354. If the prophet of God comes? And he says, God has told me,

  355. one of your son's has an important duty to fulfill and

  356. your father doesn't consider you out of all the sun's.

  357. Everybody else comes to the party, but your left into the

  358. field. Would that make you feel good?

  359. No, I'm sure somebody like that would have to go through many

  360. counseling sessions. Actually.

  361. I'm serious. What else?

  362. Tommy? Family Dynamics, what else?

  363. Have we learned up to this point with David and his family that

  364. gives us an idea of what it's like, and his household.

  365. Yeah, so David comes to the battlefield and he provides

  366. goods for his brothers and Elijah, criticizes him, and even

  367. falsely accused him of pride and arrogance.

  368. So those are the two snapshots, the main snapshots that you and

  369. I get of David's family and it makes us realize and gives us an

  370. impression that it's not the most healthy household.

  371. But what happens here? David is in a low place and his

  372. family comes together. His brothers come together.

  373. What does that say about what they did with Saul?

  374. Does anybody know? Who are the three older ones and

  375. what were they doing? Were they serving in Saul's

  376. army? Yes, they were.

  377. So what do they do? They cut ties with him.

  378. Because to now come and support David.

  379. At this point, is to make a declaration, we side with David

  380. and we stand against all. And so the three all this along

  381. with the others and the parents now come to support David.

  382. And here's the beauty of this because I read that, I thought

  383. here's Saul creating havoc in Israel breaking up homes,

  384. causing confusion and chaos. And in the midst of all of that

  385. David's families, coming closer together.

  386. I don't know if they've ever been this supportive of each

  387. other. I don't know if David has ever

  388. seen and observed such love and care and Sacrifice from his

  389. loved ones. But it's happening in the midst

  390. of all of this. Here's the thing, if you and I

  391. really believe that all things work together for the good of

  392. those who love him who are called according to his purpose.

  393. Then you and I by the spirits, help must be able to recognize

  394. the good even in the midst of suffering.

  395. Because while David is, in during a personal trial, God is

  396. healing his family. And so, why why resist a

  397. semester of suffering in the school of God?

  398. When you know that this illustration among so many

  399. proves to us that God is doing a deeper and greater work than we

  400. can perceive? And so, the brothers come.

  401. And the parents come. And yeah, it's a mystery of God,

  402. why why God allows the righteous to suffer.

  403. But here's something that's never a mystery, there's always

  404. sanctifying purpose in it. Always.

  405. And sometimes in ways that we don't realize immediately,

  406. that's what's happening here. But these are not the only ones

  407. that have come to look at verse 2 now.

  408. And everyone who is in this dress and everyone who is in

  409. debt and everyone who was bitter and soul gathered to him and he

  410. became Commander over them. And there are Some of about 400

  411. men. So now we read this interesting

  412. description of this band of men that joined David and the cave.

  413. One thing we hear is that there's 400 and that seems

  414. encouraging in itself, but it's not much when you compare it to

  415. Saul's Army. But what's worthy of our

  416. discussion tonight is is what kind of men they are.

  417. Look at this, distressed in debt, Bitter and soul.

  418. When you read that, you have to be careful.

  419. Not to think that this is just a raggedy bunch of rebels that see

  420. an opportunity to come against all and David's the way to make

  421. it possible. So let's start a coupe here and

  422. let's just gather around them, and maybe we can overtake this

  423. Kingdom. That's not the description of

  424. these men at all. Who thinks you're that?

  425. These men have come to encourage David.

  426. Because we might read it that way, right?

  427. Like God God sent the brothers and God sent the parents.

  428. And look at this. Now, here's another way. 400

  429. men. That makes an exile Journey.

  430. A lot more comfortable. That makes you feel a lot more

  431. safe, but I don't think the primary purpose of this being

  432. given to us. Is to show that David is

  433. receiving more encouragement. I believe it's to show that

  434. these men have come to receive comfort from David.

  435. Could it be possible that this description they were in

  436. distress? They were in debt.

  437. They were bitter and soul was because they've lived under the

  438. rule and reign of Saul and this was the consequence of it.

  439. And so, when they, when they saw David and that they could see

  440. this tension and David fleeing they recognize in the heart,

  441. that's that's the true king. That's the one that God's really

  442. chosen. That's one was really able to

  443. bring Israel to God's intent for us as a people.

  444. And so, we're going to follow David.

  445. We're going to choose to stay with him, even though it will

  446. cost us very much. And that is the case that is

  447. exactly what's happening. So let's let's look at another

  448. important element of personal suffering here. but even though

  449. he's in during a certain trial, God is allowing that this season

  450. of suffering to actually minister to other people.

  451. So while David is being comforted, it doesn't take very

  452. long until God uses David to be Comfort to others.

  453. Because of there's anybody who can help a group of men who are

  454. bitter distress and in debt because of a king, it's this

  455. man. It's this man.

  456. So here's the thing suffering of any kind.

  457. Listen, very carefully tonight for the sake of your

  458. encouragement, suffering of any kind.

  459. If it's physical, emotional mental, there is nothing that

  460. you've endured that will be wasted.

  461. There is nothing that you've endured that as sabotage your

  462. usefulness to God. God will use all of that

  463. suffering, all of that pain, all of those tears.

  464. With circumstances that were beyond your control to

  465. immediately, recycle it, if not, then then soon enough to

  466. actually bless and uplift and build others.

  467. Because that's what the Bible says the same.

  468. Paul who said, God, who comforts the downcast as comfort Us by

  469. the coming of Titus. You know what he said, he said

  470. in that same book early on So that we may be able to comfort

  471. those. Who are in any Affliction with

  472. the comfort, with which we ourselves are comforted by God.

  473. And second Corinthians 14, we were comforted by God, not just

  474. for our sake, but for the sake of others, so that we can share

  475. that same comfort with those who are in any Affliction.

  476. So, here's the beauty. When you suffer, God, intends to

  477. recycle that suffering in order for it to be a weapon to Aid and

  478. to assist others who are suffering.

  479. And this is what I often tell people who are sit with on a

  480. personal level that needs some counselor.

  481. Anything I tend to say, especially when they are

  482. responding with with a desire to obey and Trust in God's wisdom,

  483. one day, though, you may not be a pastor one day, you will sit

  484. on this side of the room and you will look into the eyes of

  485. another desperate soul and you can tell them, God brought me

  486. through the same thing. You'll be able to bring you

  487. through it as well. So these four hundred men come

  488. David early on said the righteous will surround me, not

  489. just for the sake of being built up himself.

  490. But now he's about to, he's about to build up, 400 guys that

  491. are just tired or tired of living under the reign of Saul.

  492. Do you see the prophetic imagery here?

  493. Do you see Jesus in this verse? Do you see the description of

  494. such men paralleling? The description of the soul that

  495. comes to Christ. Do you not see it?

  496. How often it is for people to come to this point in life.

  497. Distressed aware of their bankruptcy in the soul, bitter

  498. and spirit, bitter with life bitter because they realize that

  499. they are a terrible master of their own existence.

  500. They then began to explore the possibility of Jesus, actually

  501. being the true king of kings and the Lord of lords.

  502. You see these men come to David to find relief and the same

  503. description of men today. Come to the son of David to find

  504. that same relief. I can't tell you the amount of

  505. people that I have even had conversations with And some of

  506. them have converted to the faith.

  507. And some of them have come very close, but we're not convinced

  508. enough. When they only have realized the

  509. lack of satisfaction that comes. From living for themselves.

  510. Do they then entertain Jesus Christ as Lord?

  511. And that's that's I believe one of the main ways in which a

  512. person truly surrenders to Jesus Christ when you have learned, I

  513. can't do this. This world has nothing to offer

  514. me. I I can't find pleasure.

  515. I can't find Joy. I can't find peace.

  516. I can't find a security in my eternal destination.

  517. I can't arrive. There I am exhausted, I am

  518. distressed. I find myself no matter how much

  519. I give, no matter what kind of projects I create the matter.

  520. How much I change my luck, no matter how much I change my

  521. house, no matter how I changed my car, my friends, my

  522. destination, my place of a dress, no matter how much I

  523. change. Why am I still empty?

  524. It's been years. It's only then where the gospel

  525. begins to sound very attractive. Not for all, but for many, and

  526. let me tell you tonight, why many people do not forsake, the

  527. reign of Satan and of the Flesh, and of the world, because they

  528. still believe. That's all has something to

  529. offer them. They still believe that living

  530. as the Lord of their own lives, will promise something greater

  531. than bowing, your knee, at the foot of the cross.

  532. Can I prove that to you in this text scroll down to verse 7.

  533. We're not going to be there tonight, but look how saw speaks

  534. to some of his other men when he realizes that people are leaving

  535. his ranks and saw said to his servants who stood about him

  536. here? Now people have Benjamin, will

  537. the son of Jesse give everyone of you fields and Vineyards.

  538. Will he make you all? There's of thousands of

  539. commanders of hundreds. What a liar.

  540. What a manipulator. What a deceiver and saw here is

  541. a picture of Satan who Whispers false promises in the ears of

  542. men, including those who have grown up in the church so that

  543. they would not come to the conclusion that Jesus Christ is

  544. Worthy. He is worthy.

  545. To be crowned as the Lord Of My Life.

  546. That's what it really is down deep inside.

  547. There's something still out there.

  548. There's something I still have to explore.

  549. There's something I still want to Endeavor to accomplish and I

  550. just believe that Jesus will ruin my plans.

  551. You know what I appreciate about ministering to youth talking

  552. about high school early, High School, Middle School, is how

  553. honest they are, how honest they are.

  554. And I can't tell you the times that I've talked to Youth and

  555. how they've told me, I'm just scared that Jesus is going to

  556. ruin my plans. He's going to give me a wife

  557. that I don't want as though. God works that way.

  558. He's going to give me a job that I don't want he's going to call

  559. me to a place that's too cold. I've had these conversation.

  560. I'm looking like You're going to destroy your life.

  561. Not only are you going to destroy your life?

  562. Now you're going to destroy your soul for all eternity.

  563. I've even had a conversation with one person who said let me

  564. just try it out, I said that's not how it works.

  565. It's not how it works. You hope that it works that way,

  566. you think that you are so Sovereign that you can determine

  567. the consequence of your sin. I said you will come out with

  568. scars for sure. But you might never come out at

  569. all and be totally destroyed. And we, as people should love

  570. people enough to tell them that, because this is what Satan is

  571. telling other people look, look at what you're going to miss out

  572. on. Look at where you going to

  573. forsake, look at what I'm able to give you.

  574. And sometimes it's not Satan directly obviously he

  575. masquerades as an angel of Light, he uses people, he uses

  576. false teachers. And these men do have come to

  577. the conclusion that Saul is a liar.

  578. Salt is a liar. And so, look at this other point

  579. here. They choose to pledge their

  580. allegiance to David. When it was the least

  581. convenient, it was David wasn't on a throne.

  582. David and I have this impressive Army know.

  583. He was he was at zero. You can say he was all by

  584. himself and yet they so believe that Destiny of God for David.

  585. They sold believe the hand of God, the anointing on him that

  586. they came to him when there is nothing profitable for them and

  587. choosing to do so at least initially.

  588. In fact that this put them in greater risk, you have a

  589. demented man who's ready to kill his son-in-law.

  590. Surely he's willing to kill all of us and yet still they truly

  591. believe in the heart of hearts that he is worthy.

  592. God is worthy. This plan that God has for David

  593. and for all of us is more precious than our own lives.

  594. So we will surrender to the purposes of God in David.

  595. And we will come to him. If this is the attitude, towards

  596. a man for a temporary Kingdom, how much more the Christ and how

  597. much more his eternal Kingdom and how much more the

  598. willingness to follow him. Even if it doesn't benefit you

  599. one bit in the physical, even if it doesn't promise you, one

  600. thing in this world, he is still worthy to be followed in a cave.

  601. As these men illustrate. So they do.

  602. And we read in verse 3 and David went from there to miss pay of

  603. Moab and he said to the king of Moab, please let my father and

  604. my mother stay with you till I know what God will do for me.

  605. What do you see there? What do you see here?

  606. I see another element of suffering.

  607. I see another ingredient of How To Suffer.

  608. Well, I see a man who was pressed by great anxieties who

  609. is constantly looking over his shoulder because at any time saw

  610. can can appear with a band of men with arrows and Spears.

  611. And yet, in the midst of all of that, he has a concern.

  612. And what's his concern, the well-being of my parents,

  613. They're elderly, they can't travel with this robust.

  614. Youthful band of men, And so even before David moves on in

  615. his Exile, he sets it as a priority to take care of his

  616. parents. He suffering he is suffering,

  617. but here's the thing about suffering suffering should never

  618. make us selfish. That even though you and I might

  619. be in during certain things that you might be fighting a private

  620. war, that others do not know about in your mind, in your

  621. heart as you lay in bed, all by yourself.

  622. Even though such things may be real, and sometimes

  623. overwhelming, they never should encourage us to neglect our

  624. duties. Never.

  625. There are some unique moments and Urgent circumstances that

  626. would cause you to receive help and that give it out as much.

  627. But I'm not speaking about those circumstances.

  628. I'm speaking about how you and I will through many tribulations

  629. enter the kingdom of God. And through those tribulations,

  630. we must still be aware that we can still be of help to others.

  631. And there are still responsibilities.

  632. That God has called me to. And David realized that there

  633. was a law written in the book of Exodus that you shall honor your

  634. father and mother. So I'm going to take care of

  635. them. And he does.

  636. And that's the essence of obedience.

  637. It doesn't feel good all the time.

  638. It's not convenient, but there's a duty to fulfill.

  639. And even though we are enduring something God supplies, the

  640. grace in the strength, to still be faithful to his commands.

  641. And that's what this man does. And you know what's amazing here

  642. is that his character shining because it reflects the

  643. character of God, he's honoring his parents.

  644. And we just heard that his father didn't give him the best

  645. treatment as a Young Man. Because the essence of honoring,

  646. your parents is not, it's not I fry and tooth for tooth.

  647. The faith element of honoring. Your parents is that even though

  648. they might have not honored me, even though I can find many

  649. faults even though I can point back to moments where they've

  650. really hurt me. God commanded me to honor them.

  651. And so I will honor them. And what is honor?

  652. Look like, it doesn't look like you just overlooking their sins.

  653. It looks like you despite what they've done to you, to still

  654. love them and love. Is to care for them and their

  655. need to provide the basic necessities for them as they

  656. come to a place in life where they can't take care of

  657. themselves. And so, David says, before we

  658. even move on, guys, I know we have a plan.

  659. I know we're trying to figure this out.

  660. My mom and dad need to be at a different place because it's

  661. going to hurt them more if they come.

  662. And so what does he do? He goes to Moab, but look at

  663. this. Look at the quality of his care.

  664. He doesn't just go to Moab and drop him off at a hotel.

  665. He goes, Goes to the king of Moab, Royal Treatment.

  666. No pun intended. I'm going to take you to the

  667. king of Moab, the most secure place, the most profitable, the

  668. most The most safe place for my parents and he goes and he

  669. offers an invitation for this King to take care of his parents

  670. and it worked she when you and I obey God's commands, we don't

  671. try to do the bare minimum. We don't just try to quiet our

  672. conscience and do something poorly.

  673. We try to do it with the greatest effort.

  674. And the greatest strength and the greatest option and that's

  675. what he's doing with his parents.

  676. Why did he go to Moab? So if you remember in Ruth, we

  677. read a mini genealogy and and David is related to a moabite is

  678. named Ruth. And so, he's hoping that as he

  679. goes to this people group, though, they are not the people

  680. of God that because of his his mixed-race, they would be able

  681. to relate and, and provide some assistance, and it worked.

  682. So he goes to the moabites and he asked for help with his

  683. parents. and God honored that But look at his faith.

  684. Where's the faith of David? The faith that we did not see in

  685. chapter 21 and verse 3. Look what he says to the man

  686. What does he say? It's right there.

  687. Till I know what God will do for me.

  688. Unashamedly telling this Pagan king, would you take care of my

  689. parents until the true God? Reveals to me, the next step.

  690. This is a this is a different David than the one who came

  691. before the king of gath and shook, like a crazy man and let

  692. saliva out of his mouth, he learned, he truly repented, he

  693. knew personal Revival and faith in God, he comes to this King.

  694. He says, would you take care of my parents?

  695. Until God shows me the next step and I'll tell you why, that is

  696. so encouraging and exemplary for us.

  697. He's not just speaking in generalities here until God

  698. shows me there. There's a man about to find you.

  699. There's a king chasing you and you're willing you're willing to

  700. stop in your place and wait on God, to give you the next step.

  701. That's trust, that's Trust. And so already, we are convinced

  702. that from chapter 21 to this chapter, he has made a great

  703. development in his trust in God. I'm not going to move until God

  704. shows me what to do next and you're going to see that faith

  705. strengthened will be couple of episodes where he falls back

  706. again, but you're gonna see him strengthened and strengthened in

  707. his trust in God. And he does, he does here.

  708. And God Honors that Faith because God is so pleased with

  709. faith. That is heart is moved by that.

  710. It's moved into action. Look at verse 4.

  711. He left them with the king of Moab and they stayed with him

  712. all the time. That David was in the

  713. stronghold. Then the prophet God said to

  714. David, do not remain in the stronghold, the part and go into

  715. the land of Judah. This is this is a blessing and

  716. I'll tell you why. Because David here, although as

  717. we read in the Psalms he was living in the unknown, it was a

  718. very dark place. He could not even believe that

  719. people loved him. God was watching him the whole

  720. time. God was observing him.

  721. God was providing means of comfort to him.

  722. And finally at the right time when the faith was there, when

  723. that trust remained. God showed him where to go next.

  724. That is. a promise for you and I That you and I can trust that

  725. his leadership is perfect. It may not be convenient, it may

  726. not be free from challenges but it is perfect.

  727. It is absolutely perfect. And in this case with David, It

  728. was Supernatural a true, Prophet comes and tells them what to do

  729. in your case in mind. Can God do it.

  730. Supernaturally. Absolutely.

  731. But oftentimes God does a providentially and it's just as

  732. impressive. He loves circumstances to come

  733. doors to shut doors to open. And we say, ah, but one thing

  734. that he will guarantee you and me is that he will never leave

  735. us. He will never abandon us.

  736. You always move us forward as we continue to trust in him.

  737. And here's where the faith is shown even more, God says, what

  738. do not remain in the stronghold depart and go into the land of

  739. Judea? Why is that a troubling command?

  740. Why is that troubling command? It was safe there.

  741. Are you sure you heard from God? God, this is a really good

  742. place. I got 400 men and not only is it

  743. safe here. He's telling him to go back to

  744. the land. Where Saul is ruling and

  745. reigning. Go back to Judah.

  746. Wouldn't you tell me to go a different direction?

  747. Maybe further this way? No gold back to the area that

  748. would make you more vulnerable and observable.

  749. And David doesn't hesitate. He goes, He departs into that

  750. area. And here is here's a lesson

  751. about obedience as you heard it before.

  752. It doesn't always appease. Our senses doesn't always

  753. satisfy reason doesn't contradict reason, but it

  754. doesn't always satisfy what we think is best our own

  755. calculations in our own ideas of how to bring about the best

  756. result of something. God will put us in circumstances

  757. and situations and dilemmas, where there is a clear word of

  758. how to deal with it. But there will be a pressure it

  759. within and outside to do it differently sometimes.

  760. Even sinfully and the faith is, will you trust me in this?

  761. Will you trust me? And David has learned from

  762. chapter 21 when I try to do it my way I lied.

  763. I pretended to be insane and it brought me know where I'm going

  764. to trust God even though to the watching eyes.

  765. They look insane. It may look simplistic.

  766. It may look silly, I'm going to trust the word of God, and

  767. that's what he does. He goes into that place and it's

  768. in that place. Where, as next week we come,

  769. we're going to see We're going to see how his faith is going to

  770. be tested even more. His leadership is perfect

  771. brothers and sisters. It's absolutely perfect, but

  772. it's not free from challenges. It's not free from emotional and

  773. even physical pain, but it is free from unnecessary grief.

  774. It is free from unnecessary, shame and regret.

  775. But challenging chapters, you signed up to follow Christ.

  776. It's inevitable, it's promised and David understood that at

  777. this point of his Exile. I've learned that it's not going

  778. to be easy, but if I'm holding onto his hand, I will be safe.

  779. And he does, he goes, let me end with this thought.

  780. David had how many men? What else did David have?

  781. I'll tell you what. He had.

  782. He had God's spirit on his life. Saul, we're going to find out

  783. have thousands of men. Thousands.

  784. He had a palace. He had chariots, he had

  785. Authority. But he didn't have the spirit of

  786. God. Numbers and resources.

  787. Are not the Criterion of God's blessing, on a Ministry, or on

  788. the minister. If we looked at this in the

  789. flesh, we would see David with 400 raggedy guys.

  790. Depressed, face, fallen in a cave, wandering, and then we

  791. would look at saw in his Palace. And all the weaponry.

  792. You know how many people would would estimate that?

  793. Here's a man who is successful for God.

  794. And here's a man who is questionable.

  795. He had all the while God was with this group and not with

  796. this group. How do you measure success?

  797. Do not be fooled by packed stadiums.

  798. Do not be fooled by YouTube views.

  799. Not be fooled by even the money coming into a certain Ministry.

  800. It's the spirit of God. It's the fruit of the holy

  801. spirit. It's the people who represent

  802. that Ministry. Is the people that represent

  803. that church, that movement and the character that they hold in

  804. The Obedience of the word of God that determines.

  805. If they are truly successful and truly have favor in the eyes of

  806. God, don't forget that. With all that being said, oh, we

  807. can go on, but we'll hold off until next week, so let's pray.

  808. Florida. It might be very well.

  809. True. That there are some in here who

  810. are enduring a trial, a Dark Night of the Soul, Lord there,

  811. maybe even some in here who who feel the absence of the love and

  812. the care of people in their lives.

  813. But Lord, you are able to stand by us in a way that it is

  814. recognizable. As Paul as Paul wrote about.

  815. But you're also able to surround us with the righteous that is

  816. nothing less, but the same love that you would show if you had

  817. manifested your goodness in our hearts, help us see, even the

  818. people in our own lives. Those who are truly righteous

  819. and love you that are in our lives.

  820. Help us see that this is an expression of your care for us.

  821. Lord help us at the same time. If we are suffering to not think

  822. that our lives are being wasted, even though our bodies might be

  823. decaying, even though our resources might be drained, even

  824. though their must there might be much pain.

  825. Oh God, it's never to sabotage our ministry but only to make it

  826. more effective and to enhance the mercy and the love in our

  827. own hearts for other people. Hello.

  828. We think about how suffering or great trials in life.

  829. Carries its own Temptation. That's the temptation of being

  830. so focused on ourselves that we fail to honor our own duties.

  831. And to fail to tap into the strength that you can give us as

  832. Paul experienced that he preached in the midst of much

  833. conflict. He's still preached.

  834. He still served the church. Help us to know that strength to

  835. still be in attendance, to still be, prayerful to still be

  836. faithful to our Ministries, even though we are enduring great

  837. trouble. And Lord we ask as all of us can

  838. relate to for reminder, that you are faithful in your leadership

  839. that at the right time, you will make the next step perfectly

  840. known and your perfect way. And all you asked us to do is

  841. remain faithful where we're at until that comes though.

  842. We are blessed by the word of the lord.

  843. We are blessed by David's life up to this point.

  844. We thank you for the provision of this story and the

  845. Application, it carries for our lives.

  846. We give you glory tonight. In Jesus name, we pray.

  847. Amen.
