  1. If you have your Bibles, please meet me in the book is second

  2. Timothy and as you're turning, there may also add that just

  3. because we are doing membership in this church.

  4. Does not mean that we don't love our guests and visitors.

  5. And so, if you are a guest or visitor here this afternoon,

  6. welcome. We're so blessed that you can

  7. sing with us and receive God's word together.

  8. We hope that you would leave here loving Jesus more than when

  9. you came in. That is our prayer for guests

  10. and members. So God bless you.

  11. If you're there in, second Timothy meet me in chapter 3.

  12. Anna meet me in verse 6 of chapter 3.

  13. And let's read and then we will pray.

  14. The spirit of God says, for among them are those who creep

  15. into households and capture weak woman burdened with sins and led

  16. astray by various passions. Always learning and never able

  17. to arrive at a knowledge of the truth just as jannes and jambres

  18. opposed Moses. So, these men also oppose the

  19. truth, men corrupted in mind and disqualified regarding the

  20. faith. But they will not get very far

  21. for their Folly will be playing to all.

  22. As was that of those two men? Lord, we ask you today.

  23. Lord, we ask you today to help us understand these verses, but

  24. we thank you for a place for people that love your word and

  25. love. Would you honor our hunger for

  26. righteousness and Phyllis this afternoon?

  27. Lord. We confess our weakness or

  28. inability to understand or even to communicate this truth apart

  29. from the power of the Holy Spirit.

  30. And so Lord, we just we just call upon you with desperation.

  31. In our hearts, we want to know your mind, your heart, your will

  32. we want to know your character, your ways.

  33. So we pray o. God, that you would give us the

  34. attention that would be able to receive this word and totality

  35. and then the power to obey it the power to obey it, but we

  36. submit ourselves to you in this time in Jesus name, we pray.

  37. Amen. after Paul, for won't for Warren's of the deceptions that

  38. will come in the last days and the characteristics that will

  39. describe those who will Populate, the Earth. that will

  40. become normal, that will become praised and commended These past

  41. few weeks, we've been trying to understand these things

  42. separately but we we haven't touched on each of them.

  43. That's okay. But we come to the final portion

  44. of this text and we see that before the, the verses we read,

  45. we recognize that Paul is given Christians.

  46. A brief instruction in relation to how we should respond to the

  47. Future corruption, that has been prophesied in the scripture.

  48. And the summary of how Christians should apply this

  49. long list of Despicable practices.

  50. And attitudes is found at the end of verse 5, it's only three

  51. words really but it is deeply meaningful important for us to

  52. grasp. Paul tells Christians, Paul

  53. tells Believers. Paul tells Timothy after hearing

  54. about lovers of self and pride and by those who are

  55. disrespectful towards Authority and slanderous, he says avoid

  56. such people Avoid such people, that is the Christians take away

  57. of how we are to properly counter.

  58. The flood of Filth, that will that will come our way, maybe

  59. even our lifetime to avoid. Simply means to turn yourself

  60. away to keep yourself at a safe distance from those who are

  61. dominated by the flesh. But how was Timothy supposed to

  62. avoid something that was supposed to happen in the

  63. future? Is this not telling us of a day

  64. to come? Is that telling us about the

  65. people that will surface in a future time?

  66. Surely absolutely but for there to be a present application,

  67. implies something very important that the things, the evil

  68. beliefs and behaviors, that will be known, then are in operation

  69. right now. They are here, they were there

  70. in Timothy's day. They were there long before that

  71. and they're, they're here in America and 2022.

  72. So the understanding here is not is not to just see it as a

  73. future thing, but as a present reality and as we heard week

  74. after week, those things that we learn in verse 1, to verse 5

  75. will only intensify as we race towards the final hour before

  76. the return of Jesus Christ. Avoid such people is that really

  77. the best way to relate to those who are spiritual blindness?

  78. Who aren't hypocrisy, who are consumed with wickedness?

  79. Are we not supposed to reach those people?

  80. Are we not supposed to relate to those people?

  81. The answer is yes or no the answer is yes or no.

  82. God clearly tells us to avoid such people but remember back a

  83. few verses when he says that the servant of the Lord must I'm to

  84. everyone able to teach with patients with the hopes that

  85. some of them might be able to Escape From The Snare of Satan.

  86. Our participation and seeing people liberated from darkness

  87. is not possible unless we interact with such individuals.

  88. And therefore, we cannot mistakenly think that to avoid

  89. such people is equivalent to not engaging with these people.

  90. At the same time, Christian listen to me, there is a warning

  91. in these words to be extremely careful about who we entertain

  92. in our lives about who it is that we allow to have close

  93. proximity to us who we associate with, who we allow to be in our

  94. Inner Circle because I want to tell you today that there are

  95. many Christians who believe they have the restraining power.

  96. To resist, being influenced by others.

  97. And I want to tell you, you don't There are those who are

  98. convinced that they are impervious to the influences of

  99. attitudes and the actions of others, that it doesn't matter

  100. who they are around, who is around them.

  101. He had the Holy Spirit speaks candidly to Christians about

  102. this being a deception. This is a deception that

  103. Christians can fall under. And we are told by Paul in First

  104. Corinthians 15, do not be deceived Bad Company.

  105. Ruins good morals. We always emphasize on the

  106. second part Bad Company ruins good morals.

  107. And we forget the first aspect of that.

  108. Verse do not be deceived. Implying what Christians can be

  109. misled and thinking that I can have bad company without Then

  110. consequences. This is dangerous.

  111. There are many reasons why Christians would believe this.

  112. That they have some inner fortitude, where they can't be

  113. swayed by a person or a crowd into the wrong direction.

  114. Some think that it's just harmless that is just

  115. relationships. It's just, it's just just having

  116. time together. Others would think that, well,

  117. you know, it's just me being kind and, and that is what they

  118. work with. When in fact, they are really

  119. wanting to satisfy a fleshly pleasure by being associated.

  120. To some And yet, there are other good-hearted Christians that

  121. have good intentions, and they are willing to link themselves

  122. to others and be present. Have them be present in their

  123. lives for the sole purpose of saying, I want to win them to

  124. Christ. I want to I want to attract them

  125. to the gospel. I want to bring them closer to

  126. the truth and that is a noble, cause that is something that we

  127. should apply. That is something that we should

  128. Endeavor to do. But let me remind you this

  129. afternoon that as much as you might be trying to win some

  130. people, there are some people who want to win you There's some

  131. people who want to win, you away from Christ.

  132. When you away from Holiness who want to win, you away from the

  133. principles of God's word, you have to understand that today.

  134. But at the same time we also want to be present and those who

  135. are arrested by Satan and his lies.

  136. So what do we do? How do we work this out?

  137. Very simple, get wisdom. That is what Jesus told his

  138. original band of Soul winners, while he was on the earth.

  139. He says, behold, I am sending you out as sheep among wolves

  140. and what did he say? Be wise as what serpents and

  141. innocent as doves. That is very famous verse but

  142. people don't often quote what he says, next.

  143. The first few verse in Matthew 10, 17, that was Matthew 10:16

    Matthew 10:16

  144. after he says, be wise as serpents and innocent as doves,

  145. he goes on to say, beware of men.

  146. Beware of men. In other words, in your

  147. endeavors to relate build relationships.

  148. And your decisions are who you're going to let in, who

  149. you're going to keep at a distance.

  150. Be cautious, be alert, be Discerning, be realistic about

  151. people. There are some who actually want

  152. to lure, you away from the truth that you want to share as much

  153. as you want to help people. Can I remind you today that

  154. there are people out there that want to harm you I want to harm

  155. your testimony your relationship with Christ.

  156. You even physically, As much as you want to see people saved

  157. realize that there are some people who want to take

  158. advantage of your sacrificial love.

  159. So, this calls for a discernment, this calls for a

  160. wisdom. and if we don't, We may be inviting life-altering

  161. problems. That could have been avoided and

  162. that is exactly what Paul is. Teaching Timothy here in those

  163. verses that we read. The potential threats of some of

  164. those who are driven by carnal desires and those carnal desires

  165. are listed in verse 12, verse 5. And that's in essence.

  166. What Paul is telling Timothy is, hey Timothy, listen to me.

  167. Understand what I'm trying to say that you and your people

  168. need to learn to avoid other, some specifically, because as

  169. much as they might be spiritually, blind, there are

  170. some within that camp that are not just unaware, unbelieving.

  171. They are vicious. And they're out for blood.

  172. And they actually want to do more damage than you can

  173. imagine. And Timothy, I want to tell you,

  174. they are not immediately recognizable.

  175. Some of them have the appearance of godliness and that is the way

  176. they have their way, with those who are truly Godly.

  177. Didn't we read it? And verse 6 we are told for

  178. among them among who again the list of those people in verse 1

  179. to verse 5, notice how honest the Bible is, it doesn't say all

  180. of them, it says some of them. In other words, not everybody

  181. who is outside of Christ is a lethal threat to you.

  182. Not, everybody is a danger to you.

  183. Now everybody's going to lead you into deception or two ways

  184. of life that will be destructive, not everybody but

  185. some of them will Because some of them will that alone requires

  186. for us to be on guard and to seek God, for discernment.

  187. Who to avoid who to allow, who to permit and who to disregard.

  188. And these people here, some of them though, not all of them

  189. have the potential, they have a goal, they were Twisted

  190. ambition, and that is what we read to capture certain people.

  191. Timothy, I need to tell you something that there are people

  192. within the camp of those who do not obey Jesus Christ as Lord,

  193. who don't just not believe in the gospel, but they actually

  194. seek to take people captive And Paul is warning here, not a

  195. physical kidnapping but about those who are skillful and

  196. seducing, the Mind those who are able to trick people, the

  197. Apostle is most likely primarily warning about those who have

  198. false teaching and lure people into their damning Doctrine but

  199. it's not just limited to that. He could very well be speaking

  200. about those who have a cloak of Holiness, but it has since come

  201. to those who are naive in order to manipulate them so that they

  202. can take advantage of them physically.

  203. Financially. And everything in between, can I

  204. prove that to you go to the book of Jude with me right before the

  205. Book of Revelation? 1 chapter verse for Jude verse

  206. 4, we are told as we turn our Bibles there.

  207. For certain people have crept in unnoticed who long ago were

  208. designated for this condemnation, ungodly people who

  209. pervert the grace of our God, into sensuality and deny, our

  210. only master and Lord, Jesus Christ.

  211. So there are people out there who not only attack the

  212. authority of God's word, but there are false people out there

  213. who take God's word twist it and Jude uses the word perverts it

  214. perverts. It isn't, it isn't a language to

  215. milk a verse for here who pervert, the grace of God.

  216. Right. Look at before that, who have

  217. crept in unnoticed, isn't it the same language that Paul uses in

  218. second Timothy? Verse 6 and chapter, 34 among

  219. them are those who creep into households.

  220. So what's the idea here is that they cunningly come off as

  221. knowledgeable and spiritual people?

  222. They come off as innocent and so innocent, do they come off that

  223. they are actually able to enter into people's personal domains

  224. and sit and have dinner with them and sit in their living

  225. rooms. And so they come into people's

  226. personal lives under false pretenses.

  227. And so it's not immediately seen they worm their way and they

  228. convince people falsely. And some of these imposters will

  229. create friendships friendships in order to lure people away

  230. from the gospel or not tonight, even believe it in the first

  231. place. But not just that there are some

  232. who actually build relationships through the shared love of a

  233. supposed gospel. when in fact they perverted practically and

  234. they seek to cause you to join them in their perversion, Of

  235. Truth. So we're not just merely talking

  236. about people who are clearly in lies about God or false

  237. religions. We're talking about those who

  238. pervert the grace of God. And listen, as much as you and I

  239. should feel safe in this Community of Faith, we should

  240. not be foolish, we should not be foolish to believe that there

  241. are not some who were willing to daringly enter into your Slither

  242. away. In order to do just that Lure

  243. some away. We cannot think for a moment and

  244. be ignorant of the schemes of the minions of Satan, to think

  245. that he just lurks outside. Oh no, he didn't just lurk

  246. outside. He seeks to lure those from

  247. within, from the protective care of Elders.

  248. And those who make up the body of that local church, you got to

  249. believe it. But these wolves are clever,

  250. man. They are clever, they know who

  251. to sniff out, they know exactly who to go for as a primary

  252. target. They don't just go for anybody.

  253. Paul is about to describe the Criterion who it is that these

  254. men specifically gravitate towards who it is that they

  255. often convince and draw away from the truth, either from

  256. initial belief. Or because there are weak in the

  257. faith into destructive Behavior. Read it again.

  258. Would you in verse 6? For among them are those to

  259. creep into households and capture weak woman.

  260. Weak woman. You can breathe woman.

  261. He's not saying all woman my sister's, he's not generalizing

  262. your sex. He speaking about a certain

  263. class of woman. He speaking about those that He

  264. by the spirit has observed. There is a pattern here. that

  265. when these false teachers in these false people come after to

  266. devour, they often initially come after those who are women

  267. And somebody cleverly pointed out that even from the

  268. beginning, when Satan slid with his way, to the first parents of

  269. humanity, he did not go to Adam first.

  270. He went to Eve, And those who Advocate error have followed his

  271. example ever since. Perhaps some would mistakenly

  272. think that the weakness of woman.

  273. Here, remember he's not saying all women are weak.

  274. He's being about a certain category of women who are weak.

  275. Some would probably think that this speaks of a unique gullible

  276. nastas or are trustworthy spirit that just just believes anything

  277. that they here and that would be a misinterpretation of what Paul

  278. is saying here. About weakness, the weakness

  279. that he is describing here speaks of a Frailty and

  280. morality. And in spirituality, he's not

  281. speaking about a less than average intelligence or ability

  282. to reason that is not the case at all.

  283. What he's saying about weakness is described in these verses,

  284. the weakness here is and what we just read.

  285. And what's profound about Paul's thoughts.

  286. Your, by the spirit is that these characteristics of what

  287. makes a woman or a man week is that it is connected to

  288. deception. Meaning if these things are true

  289. in a person's life they are more prone to being deceived and

  290. there are evil men out there who are fully aware of that and will

  291. take advantage of it. So let's look at these

  292. characteristics. Remember weakness is not.

  293. Speaking of all women, let me clarify weakness is speaking

  294. about a category of women who through pattern have fallen

  295. victim primarily to these evil men.

  296. Number one, We are told here, they are burdened with sins.

  297. They are burdened with sins. The idea of being burden here,

  298. speaks of having sins heaped, upon them, and experiencing the

  299. heavy guilt that wrongdoing often causes it speaks about a

  300. conscience that is tormented, almost it speaks about your past

  301. sins, or your present sins that stir up humiliation.

  302. That caused you to be disappointed in yourself to the

  303. point where it even affects your emotional stability.

  304. False teachers, please pay attention and false professing

  305. Christians love to play on people's shame and guilt.

  306. They loved it. They can smell it.

  307. And what they do often is that they cleverly seek to discover

  308. your secrets, your failures of the past, maybe your struggles

  309. in the present, because they realize that if having these

  310. insights, they can easily manipulate you.

  311. Sometimes that manipulation looks like promising, false

  312. relief, or false salvation. Is it not true that many people

  313. seek out spiritual things? When they've made a wreck of

  314. their lives? When because of their decisions

  315. they have been LED on a path of destruction and and emptiness

  316. and being void, they begin to seek out Transcendent realities

  317. and and that can be good because they can find the gospel but

  318. false teachers also want to present something that is not

  319. true. And so, sometimes oftentimes

  320. people who are burdened by their way of life, crushed by what

  321. they've done to people into themselves, begin to now yearn

  322. for something else, some answers to what can fill and help them,

  323. not realize their shame and help them distract themselves from

  324. their pain. And they are introduced to false

  325. teaching false teachers welcome to the world of Cults.

  326. You know how many Cults bring in people you know how they bring

  327. in people many reasons, one of them is this they bring a an

  328. invitation into a communal life. And that's a perversion of what

  329. we know in the church but they try to convince you of some

  330. satisfaction of some kind of love which is a false love.

  331. It's packaged with poison and people who are burdened by life,

  332. people who are lonely, people who have made decisions that

  333. have caused them to be in a certain place gravitate towards

  334. these false teachers because these false teachers gravitate

  335. towards them. But it's not just limited to

  336. that. People who are burdened with

  337. sins. These people who are false can

  338. smell it and they capitalize on it.

  339. Not to lead you into damning beliefs, but to use that as a

  340. weapon against you. And what these people will do is

  341. they will often smear your failures in your face especially

  342. when you do not give them what they ask of you.

  343. They know how to they know how to play on your guilt, in order

  344. to steer you in a certain direction.

  345. And if you don't believe what I am saying, this is biblical,

  346. this is a psychology, this isn't scripture.

  347. This is the strategies of those who are consumed with the Flesh

  348. and want to consume others to satisfy their flesh.

  349. Turn with me to Second Peter, chapter 2, verse 14.

    2 Peter 2:14

  350. So remember there are those who come after people?

  351. Who are burdened with sins as Peter says, promising them

  352. Freedom while they themselves are slaves to corruption.

  353. That's the new age. That's every other religion

  354. apart from the true one promising, you Freedom while

  355. they themselves are slaves to corruption.

  356. But there are others who will manipulate those who are

  357. unsteady who are burdened in order to satisfy their sin.

  358. Second Peter 2, 14 proves it. This is a this is a context on

  359. false teachers and Peter says about these false teachers.

  360. They have eyes full of adultery. You know what that means?

  361. They are so consumed with lust that every woman they look at is

  362. it 10 shal fantasy to being fulfilled.

  363. Somebody that they can commit adultery with somebody that they

  364. can get to commit adultery with them there.

  365. Their eyes are full of adultery, they just see women as objects.

  366. But look how they do it. Look how they lure people, they

  367. have eyes full of adultery insatiable for sin.

  368. They entice unsteady Souls. They have hearts trained in

  369. greed, accursed children. I want to tell you that,

  370. Predators can easily detect those who have broken pasts.

  371. And they favor those kinds of people as prey because they

  372. know, they know that they have an advantage with somebody who

  373. is emotionally damaged. Or unstable and their soul or

  374. not anchored, who don't understand their identity in the

  375. freedom that they have in Jesus Christ have been set free by the

  376. knowledge of the truth. Burden with sins.

  377. These weak women are burdened with sins but not just burden

  378. with sins. They are LED was we what are we

  379. told and led astray by various passions.

  380. At the end of verse 6, this is not the same as the previous

  381. Point. What Paul is teaching here is

  382. that the communicating truth is that these women are driven by

  383. the flesh? Their decisions and their

  384. desires are not governed by the word of God.

  385. They are dominated by the natural mind.

  386. Now, by the influence of the indwelling power of the Holy

  387. Spirit by the Flesh, and notice he doesn't mention any

  388. particular sins, he says, LED astray by various passions,

  389. there is a wide spectrum of selfishness, that all have the

  390. same effect and they can include anything that we've studied over

  391. the past several weeks, from verses 1 to verse 5.

  392. It can be women, who are unrepentant of, pride of Gossip

  393. of slander of the Love of Money of materialism.

  394. But here's the main point because their lives are not

  395. governed by the spirit, they're easily Guided by the wrong

  396. people. To tolerate any sin can be

  397. catastrophic in many ways. But let me give you one

  398. consequence of sin that many do not consider When sin when a

  399. life of obedience is not repented of but cherished and

  400. embraced it blunts it. Dulls a person's ability to

  401. discern. It creates a fog.

  402. It does something to reason. It does something to your

  403. ability to see things as they are, as they should be seen.

  404. And there are so many examples, but the one verse that comes to

  405. mind that makes us so clear. It's found in the prophets book

  406. Hosea and 4:11. I believe this is worth turning

  407. your Bibles to to see the wisdom of God, concerning the

  408. consequences of sin. He speaking about his people,

  409. his people who were destroyed for, what a lack of what.

  410. Knowledge is the same chapter Hosea 4:6?

    Hosea 4:6

  411. My people are destroyed, what a powerful.

  412. Word destroyed shattered crushed because of a lack of knowledge.

  413. And then he goes on to say in Hosea, 411 and speaking about,

  414. The equation of lacking the truth of God.

  415. And the addition of this, look at this and verse 11, whoredom.

  416. Wine and new wine, which take away the understanding.

  417. Whoredom wine and new wine. It does something.

  418. It takes away understanding. Now, there's no debate that if a

  419. person is intoxicated with drink that, they lose their ability,

  420. at least a lot of ability to discern or to make right.

  421. Judgments. That's obvious.

  422. But what might not be obvious is that the Holy Spirit places in

  423. the same? Verse of the category of wine

  424. whoredom? A promiscuous, life Indulgence,

  425. sexual immorality. And would you have ever guessed

  426. that something like whoredom? Would have the same effects to

  427. the mind to the spirit of a man, as alcohol does to the body.

  428. Is anybody ever considered that? This sin can lead someone to

  429. just as much foolishness as a person?

  430. Who is intoxicated with alcohol can be That's why I'm Proverbs

  431. 6. We are told that he who commits

  432. adultery lacks sense. He lacks sense.

  433. She lacks sense. She didn't understand.

  434. He does understand what this is going to lead to.

  435. So there's an intoxicating influence from sin.

  436. And we see that in numbers 25 you don't have to turn there

  437. verse 1. When the sons of Israel are now

  438. committing whoredom with the daughters of Moab, they're

  439. getting involved physically with these Idol worshippers and then

  440. in the very next verse, we are told that they start worshipping

  441. these false gods. How did you go from Intimate

  442. Relationships to Bow before an idol?

  443. Well, because whoredom Takes away.

  444. Understanding. What about, what about an

  445. individual like, Solomon? That guy remember his community

  446. of wives that he had. what a tragic figure a man with so much

  447. wisdom, wisdom from God, wisdom to build God's house, but

  448. because because of a lust, A lust for power, political power,

  449. a Lust For Women obviously. That wisdom became blurred.

  450. And it's not just lust, my brother and sister, it's not

  451. just limited to whoredom and new wine.

  452. So if you've been with us on Friday nights, we have a case

  453. study of somebody who has lost all sense of perception,

  454. concerning his fellow man himself and God King Saul.

  455. Oh, the craziness of this man, believing things about God,

  456. believing things about the right people about the wrong people,

  457. it's just unfathomable. And where does it all start?

  458. From all, you just trace it back.

  459. He allowed pride and jealousy to rein in his heart.

  460. And that pride in jealousy, bread deception.

  461. And he couldn't see God, right? He could interpret events,

  462. right? He couldn't see the people,

  463. right? Sin impairs our judgment.

  464. This is why we should flee from it.

  465. Peter tells us to war against the passions of your flesh,

  466. because they wore against you. Sin is not some little pet that

  467. you can keep in your living room and visit once in awhile and

  468. feed when you're hungry, when she's hungry, no sin will

  469. destroy your life. It will shatter your life.

  470. I'm just blown away by how under emphasize sin is, And many

  471. puppets today. And if sin is cherished, if it

  472. is tolerated, listen, it should be no question that it would

  473. lead somebody to the wrong people and even to the wrong

  474. beliefs especially when those beliefs allow you to hold onto

  475. your sin. So Paul says these false

  476. teachers, these people have an appearance of godliness, even

  477. who might even hold a Bible. These people come after those,

  478. who are LED, not by the spirit, not by the word, but by the

  479. impulses of their flesh, Lastly says something quite

  480. interesting. In verse 7.

  481. Here's a third characteristic of those who are weak morally.

  482. Weak spiritually. There are always learning and

  483. never able to arrive at a knowledge of the truth.

  484. So this verse alone deals with any controversy about the

  485. weakness here being spoken of of being uneducated or

  486. simple-minded. That's not the case at all.

  487. In fact, the woman that Paul has in mind, when he is teaching on

  488. this demonstrate, great hunger for knowledge.

  489. They actually eager to acquire information and let's put it in

  490. our context. Some of these women can have

  491. their beees, they're amazed their phds.

  492. Some of them can be Avid readers, they can be students of

  493. History, they can be familiar with the political landscape.

  494. They can debate philosophy and they can even attempt to satisfy

  495. their spiritual pitch by listening to gurus and teachers

  496. who might even call themselves Christians, when in fact, they

  497. are not biblical. But with all of that education,

  498. with all of that acquirement of general knowledge would all of

  499. the questionable, faith-based teachings, that they are

  500. plugging into their ears through podcast.

  501. Paul has one main concern about these women, who are weak their

  502. biblically illiterate They're always learning.

  503. But they never arrived to the knowledge of the truth and

  504. primary, that means that they reject the gospel all together,

  505. but it's not limited to that the word knowledge here.

  506. Speaks about a correct and precise understanding.

  507. It's the same thing that Paul prayed for, for the Ephesians,

  508. when he says, oh that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened

  509. concerning the knowledge of Jesus Christ that you would have

  510. a precise laser focus understanding of Jesus, a deeper

  511. grasp of Truths of God. These women never arrived there.

  512. They don't, it's not speaking about you having a memorized

  513. Systematic, Theology. It's not about you being a

  514. theologian. It's more than that.

  515. Speaking about a disinterest, in the things of God.

  516. Speaking about a failure, to see the beauty of the gospel and

  517. wanting to discover deeper things in him.

  518. He speaks about not being governed by the authority of

  519. God's Sovereign word, And Hosea said it, my people are destroyed

  520. for a lack of knowledge. Blend it all together.

  521. Now, blend all these characteristics together.

  522. What do you have when a person either rejects or is this

  523. interested in discovering the glories of God's word?

  524. What's going to happen eventually you will settle for

  525. lesser things for cheaper. Substitutes that this world

  526. offers namely sins, namely idols.

  527. And when a person is ensnared, they are arrested by their sins

  528. and they are void of the fulfilling Fellowship that comes

  529. Through Jesus Christ, their candidates.

  530. They are more susceptible to being led astray.

  531. And sometimes being led astray means to believe heresy and

  532. other times, it means being used and abused by merciless people

  533. who claim to be religious. And sometimes they will abuse,

  534. you financially, just look at the false teachers that are

  535. being funded. And other times it can mean your

  536. body being used by somebody Who tricked you with a few verses to

  537. convince you that they were a man of God.

  538. We've been speaking about week woman so far and again it's not

  539. just limited to. Men are not exempt from this.

  540. So, if your man in this place, you think you can be week as

  541. well, but Paul again is seeing a pattern throughout history.

  542. By the spirit. He understands something

  543. specific. We've been speaking about week

  544. woman. Let me address my sister's this

  545. afternoon. As a brother.

  546. God wants you to be strong. God wants you to be strong

  547. strong and and a strength that the Bible describes, not as the

  548. world describes. Not not financially strong, not

  549. physically strong. Spiritually.

  550. Strong. I want you to be encouraged by

  551. this. I want you to leave here.

  552. Built up with these thoughts. It is very difficult to

  553. manipulate a woman. Who is secure in her adoption in

  554. Jesus Christ. Someone who has truly tasted the

  555. grace of God and seeks to grow in the knowledge of her savior.

  556. It's very difficult to move. So, study study your word.

  557. I know it's difficult. If you're a mom with babies

  558. running around, But that does not exempt you from the

  559. invitation of knowing your God. Jesus just as much as your

  560. savior, as your husband, savior, as your brother savior, there's

  561. this misconception that men should be more theologically

  562. discerning. And sophisticated and woman

  563. said, who asked Apollo's, how he felt when a couple came up to

  564. him, and the wife knew just as much as the husband study, know,

  565. your God be secure and understand these truths until it

  566. causes you to worship. Not so that you can answer

  567. questions. If somebody comes up to you to

  568. see if your knowledge, oh no to cause your heart to be ravished

  569. with the beauties of Jesus. Evil men will find it.

  570. Very problematic to persuade a lady who like Mary of Bethany,

  571. enjoy sitting at the feet of the Lord.

  572. Who is mesmerized by him, who eats his every word, how can you

  573. move a woman like that? When in that setting, there was

  574. so much distraction but she was focused on the bread of life.

  575. Oh, would you practice her posture?

  576. Even if it's just a few minutes a day before the hoodlums, get

  577. up. Before chores.

  578. Come would you learn to do it while you're doing those things?

  579. Just just practice the posture of looking at the Lord

  580. worshiping him. Spontaneously, receiving his

  581. words studying at talking about it with your husband talking

  582. about with your friends, if you're single Satan and his

  583. minions have little to work with. when they encounter a

  584. woman who is led by truth rather than emotions, Who take this

  585. word and determine how they discern.

  586. How they decide? How they even feel, no matter,

  587. who says what? Paul speaks of weak woman, but

  588. we pray that the woman of MBC would be strong strong.

  589. God wants you to be strong and brothers, encourage the woman

  590. spiritually. Encourage them, spiritually

  591. speak spiritual things, to them have conversations and be

  592. patient. Be loving.

  593. Ask questions, have debates. build up your sisters because

  594. there are evil men of there that want to manipulate take

  595. advantage of. We read here in verse 8.

  596. That if you are strong, you'll be able to avoid people, like

  597. who Paul is about to mention. Just as jannes and jambres

  598. opposed Moses. So these men also oppose the

  599. truth, men corrupted in mind, you might be thinking who would

  600. dare take advantage of people especially women Men who are

  601. corrupt in mind Twisted. Selfish driven by less.

  602. That's who they're not just out there.

  603. Sometimes they sit in places like this.

  604. Men corrupted in mind, and disqualified regarding the

  605. faith. Those names are not familiar.

  606. They're not familiar to me. It shouldn't be to you, you know

  607. why? Because only mentioned here, the

  608. only mention once in all of the Bible.

  609. And the debate is, where did Paul get these names?

  610. Because it is often believed that these men were the Two

  611. Chief magicians that stood against Moses, when Moses came

  612. against pharaoh to see his people set free.

  613. And so Jewish tradition claims that and we can spend the next

  614. 15 minutes talking about the sources that Paul had and how

  615. that relates to this efficiency and the inerrancy of scripture.

  616. But we're not going to go there because that's not Paul's main

  617. point. Nor is it the holy spirit's?

  618. That's a conversation for another time.

  619. The main idea here is that Paul by the spirit points to these

  620. two men, we have their names but we know what they did in Exodus

  621. for a specific reason. There are many people in the Old

  622. Testament that have opposed truth, that have stood against

  623. men of God, the message of God but why?

  624. These two specifically? Why these two men, why that

  625. specific scenario? And I present to you three

  626. potential reasons. Number one, the ambition of

  627. these magicians is the same as false teachers and false

  628. Believers today. What were they doing?

  629. When Moses came and said, let my people go and God had given him

  630. a host of Miracles to perform what were these magicians doing?

  631. They were trying to perform the same Miracles with the goal of

  632. making sure that God's people would not be set free.

  633. They were trying to restrict and there are trying to cut off any

  634. potential of pharaoh or anybody else being persuaded that, these

  635. people deserve salvation and false.

  636. Teachers do the same day bar people from the truth.

  637. They don't want people to experience.

  638. What only Christ can provide and whether they are aware of it or

  639. not, whether they are intentionally doing.

  640. So does not justify their falsehood.

  641. Satan has all these false teachers with different masks

  642. for the same purpose, to make sure that people do not know the

  643. Deliverance of the Passover Lamb.

  644. So they have the same ambition. And what's important here is

  645. that it's not just a bar people from accepting the gospel.

  646. But it's also to ensnare people. Again, who have might have

  647. believed the gospel to bring you back to your former sins, to

  648. bring you back into the days of Egypt, where you are governed by

  649. pharaoh and not by the god of Israel.

  650. So these magicians, desire to see you enslaved, desire to see

  651. those two never be set free and those who have been set free to

  652. do, just what those people were tempted to do in the wilderness.

  653. Let's go back to Egypt. Some would even say that these

  654. magicians followed Israel Into the Wilderness that's tradition.

  655. And there are the voices that were continually convincing,

  656. these people to go back to Egypt.

  657. It's called the mixed crowd and the Book of Numbers and that's

  658. not a far-fetched interpretation.

  659. The ambition of these magicians are the same of false teachers

  660. and Timothy's day. And today false people who come

  661. into the church even, secondly, The deception of these

  662. magicians. Has the same power as false

  663. teachers today. Now, the way you're going to see

  664. that is if you go to Exodus with me, so go with me to Exodus as

  665. we close in a moment here, I want you to see something, you

  666. know this, but I want you to see it for yourself.

  667. Let's begin in Exodus chapter 7. Exodus chapter 7 verse 10.

Exodus 7 chapter mention Exodus 7:10

  668. This is after Let's begin in verse 10.

  669. So Moses and Aaron went to pharaoh and did just as the Lord

  670. commanded, Aaron cast down his staff before pharaoh and his

  671. servants, and it became a serpent.

  672. Then pharaohs summoned, the wise, men, and The Sorcerer's

  673. and they The Magician's of Egypt also did the Same by their

  674. secret Arts. Go to verse 22.

  675. This is after the Nile was turned into blood and all water

  676. sources were turned into blood. We're told an exodus 7 verse 22,

    Exodus 7:22

  677. but the magician's of Egypt did the Same by their secret Arts.

  678. So Pharaoh's heart remain hardened and he would not listen

  679. to them as the Lord had said go to chapter 8 verse 7, But the

  680. magician's did the Same by their secret arts and made frogs come

  681. up on the land of Egypt. So we see in the first few

  682. plagues. The first few Miracles,

  683. whatever, Moses did The Magicians matched it.

  684. Now, I want you to imagine what an onlooker would think, every

  685. time Moses did something The Magician's did the same, you

  686. know what could potentially, run through their mind, there's no

  687. difference between the god of Israel and the gods of Egypt.

  688. There's similar they can do the same things, equal power, equal

  689. messages, equal equal promises, maybe there's no difference

  690. here. And so, you see here that these

  691. men were deceiving people including Farrell primarily

  692. pharaoh, to see that the god of Israel is not as powerful as he

  693. says he is and listen false teachers do the same.

  694. To the undiscerning, they see the package, they see the

  695. performance, and they go, there's no difference here.

  696. There's no, there's no difference here.

  697. Very similar messages. Very similar ideas, very similar

  698. Concepts, maybe even the same God.

  699. And I want to tell you, that's not just for those who interpret

  700. religions all, as one different packages, leading to the same

  701. person you even have some Christians professing

  702. Christians. Who are not Discerning and all

  703. it takes is for somebody to come in and speak.

  704. Christian he's quote, a few verses and hold the Bible and

  705. maybe even have it highlighted and they show you.

  706. It's highlighted. That must be the real deal,

  707. really. Really.

  708. They have an appearance of godliness.

  709. Just like those magicians had an appearance of having the same

  710. power as the power of God. So demented, a persuade people

  711. with a form of power, a form of Salvation in falsehood and clear

  712. faucet. But even in Christendom with a

  713. false Christian message, by the way, can I let me just say this?

  714. Please please, do not think that false teachers have pulpits all

  715. the time. Did they creep into Pulpit?

  716. So they creep into households. They crept into households.

  717. Not all false people, where Shepherds clothing, they wear

  718. sheep's clothing. And so they can very well be in

  719. the pew. And today they don't just creep

  720. into household, by knock on your door, like this ancient time.

  721. They creep into your households through your television through

  722. YouTube. Lastly, not just the Ambitions

  723. of these magicians. Being the same as false teachers

  724. today, not just the deception, but also the fate and Paul ends

  725. this thought on an encouraging note in verse 9 back in.

  726. Second Timothy, he tells Timothy something that he would not be

  727. overly burdened by, as he brings us hopeful note concerning these

  728. people, we are told that after he mentions these names of their

  729. future and the future is clear of these men, but they will not

  730. get very Far for their Folly will be playing to all.

  731. As was that of those two men? Let me simplify what he's trying

  732. to say. These people that persuade the

  733. masses. These people that persuade even

  734. naive innocent burdened people within the church.

  735. They're not going to get away with it, they're not He says,

  736. their Folly will be plain to all that's what happens to those two

  737. magicians. What happened?

  738. Eventually? It came to the miracle of the

  739. Nats, right? Moses performs that miracle and

  740. they try and they couldn't. And they look at Fair, they go,

  741. that's the Finger of God, they've reached a limit.

  742. They could, they could not cross a certain line with their

  743. abilities and in the side of those who are Discerning, they

  744. said these guys are fake, they're not the real deal,

  745. they're not legit. And to a certain degree, God in

  746. this lifetime is willing and has been and can expose people.

  747. He can if he even think about these false movements throughout

  748. history, they haven't lasted, they just come and go.

  749. There are others who try to manipulate people from within

  750. and they seem Christian they seem Godly and God exposes them.

  751. Their Folly will be plain to all not.

  752. Everybody will get away. but even if Throughout a lifetime or

  753. throughout centuries. There are false things that are

  754. not. They're not going away.

  755. They're not being exposed. There is a day coming when God

  756. will expose them. Remember, this is in the

  757. context, here's full circle in this section of the last days.

  758. And in the last days, not only will Things become more ugly.

  759. But God will have the final say. Not only will deception be

  760. rampant, but truth will penetrate and bring all things

  761. to light. And you think about these men,

  762. not only did they perform these deceptive Miracles, not only

  763. were they exposed but in one of the Miracles were God in the 61

  764. precisely brings boils on the Egyptians these magicians.

  765. We were told were also exposed to the Boyles they were judged

  766. by God. And that's what's going to come.

  767. That's what Paul is saying. Timothy, although, you may have

  768. seen people captured, although you seen people being hindered

  769. from being saved, and maybe even seen people from within, who

  770. were close to coming, who had some kind of understanding

  771. Christian, but where were Swept Away?

  772. Know this, God will have the final word.

  773. And whether in this life or in the life to come, people will

  774. see the Folly of everything or everyone who's outside of Jesus

  775. Christ. And so I encourage you today to

  776. be encouraged to be encouraged that no matter what people are

  777. getting away with. Do you have to face God?

  778. One day? They will oh many things have

  779. been said, but I want to steer a direction out towards the Lord's

  780. table. and I wanted to just prepare ourselves to meet with

  781. the Lord and to reflect on our Redemption know this if you are

  782. in this place and I want to make a gospel call here if you are in

  783. this place, You're visiting, you may be a Christian, you may not

  784. be a Christian. But this is, this is a message

  785. for you. And what sense maybe you are

  786. burdened with sins and you're trying to find relief.

  787. And you've picked up books and you're listening to different

  788. teachers and spiritist and you came out here for just for

  789. curiosity sake. I want to let you know that no

  790. one can give you Freedom apart from Christ.

  791. No one you will fail. You'll be disappointed.

  792. You will be empty. You might be happy for for a

  793. brief season but you will realize that nothing has the

  794. power to fill that void. Nothing can roll the burdens off

  795. your shoulders, the burden of a conscience that is troubled by

  796. your actions, your words Only Christ can deliver you and he

  797. wants to deliver you today. Maybe you are LED Away by

  798. various passions and it has led you into dangerous places.

  799. No, this, no matter where your feet have taken, you no matter

  800. what your hands have performed, no matter what you have, even

  801. believe, no matter what you might even believe.

  802. Now, Christ is ready to forgive you.

  803. He is he wants to restore your redeem, you It may be.

  804. You are always learning. Maybe to you Christianity is a

  805. hindrance to intellect. I want to let you know something

  806. that this book has been through intense scrutiny.

  807. Men have tried to bury it, men of try to burn it.

  808. Men of try to dismiss it, but the word of the Lord endures

  809. forever, this word has transformed lives.

  810. This word has test the stood, the test of time, this word will

  811. be the very thing that will last forever with God.

  812. And your conscience Bears witness to you this afternoon.

  813. That you are a sinner that you have a judge to face.

  814. One day, God is instilled that in man and that's why men wants

  815. to dismiss God as much as possible.

  816. They don't want to have to face the reality that when they give

  817. their final breath, they will meet the king of the universe.

  818. But may I add something to that thought that, that same King

  819. that man will stand before. Came into this world.

  820. He died on a cross. He went into a tomb heroes from

  821. that grave. So that he can purchase your

  822. Redemption. so, if your burden today, That burning can be

  823. lifted off of you, but only one name can save you.

  824. And that's Jesus call upon his name.

  825. I've done my part and I'm here afterwards, with Pastor Daniel

  826. and other leaders in this place. Other Christians in this place,

  827. that might lead you to that truth.

  828. More importantly, leads to this a living Christ who's willing to

  829. intervene in your life right now.

  830. Call upon his name Believers. Would you examine yourselves in

  831. this moment? Are you walking right with the

  832. Lord? Do you testify to the unity of

  833. the body of Christ? Or is there disunity in your

  834. language? Is there disunity in your

  835. actions? Is there somebody that you're

  836. supposed to reconcile with today?

  837. Is there somebody that you're supposed to sit and say, sit

  838. down with the say, hey, we have to deal with this before we come

  839. to the Lord's table. Do that.

  840. Don't come, don't come judge you.

  841. Lest you be judged. That's what the text tells us.

  842. And for those who are not Christians in this place, we ask

  843. you kindly not to participate in this because this is an

  844. ordinance reserved for those who have believed on Jesus Christ.

  845. If you're in this place and you're not a Christian, we don't

  846. we don't judge you. In this sense, we look down on

  847. you with scorn. We just ask you kindly not to

  848. participate because the Lord strictly reserves is for his

  849. children. And so as we come you're going

  850. to take the elements, bring it with you.

  851. We just ask that you don't eat or drink yet because we're going

  852. to sing A Hymn. And I'm Pastor Daniels going to

  853. lead us in a few words to reflect and then we will eat and

  854. drink together. Let's pray.

  855. Louis, thank you for this word. Thank you, that even in a word

  856. of warning you can encourage us. And we pray o God that we would

  857. be encouraged to be strong, both men and women. we pray o God

  858. that you would protect this assembly from those who are

  859. false And that Lord we would be able to discern and dissect and

  860. determine through the word who's for you, and who is against you.

  861. Father in heaven. We ask that as we come to this

  862. table, the Lord's table, that it would have a sanctifying effect

  863. on this. People on all of us, Lord, and

  864. Lord. If it will do anything, May

  865. renew a joy in your salvation that as we hold this element of

  866. bread and is element of the cup that we would remember that.

  867. It's not about our good, it's not about our Behavior, it's not

  868. about our performance that is purchase anything, but it's what

  869. Christ has done. And Lord we might be going

  870. through many trials, troubles, we might be wanting certain

  871. things, but Lord made this may this time.

  872. Now, remind us that we have all that we need in Jesus.

  873. Please Lord, make that real in us, this afternoon in Jesus name

  874. we pray. Amen.
