  1. Good evening. Excited to be with you guys tonight. Before we start, I just want to be transparent

  2. because I realize that you guys aren't all in our community group. So my name is Matt and I'm a

  3. pastoral resident here. We have been coming out to Hope for a while. We've been at home participating

  4. in church virtually for a month, a month and a half. I don't know, I'll lose track. But

  5. the reason why is because we as a family, we have five, almost six adults, and we all have

  6. different feelings and thoughts and concerns about COVID. And so we work through that. We've been

  7. working through that just like you guys have here and those who are online. It's something that we

  8. all struggle with and there is no right answer. And so I share that with you just so you know that

  9. we are in it and we struggle with it together. And if there's anything that I do that causes someone

  10. to struggle or if you have questions or you want to talk about it, please don't keep it to yourself.

  11. Whether you're here or especially online, talk to someone about it. In your community group, talk to,

  12. email me about it. Matt at Trinity Cambridge. Send me a message on Slack. But if you're struggling with

  13. something related to that, please reach out to somebody because I wouldn't want you to stay

  14. that way. And it's, I know the difficulty, especially when you're disconnected physically,

  15. the struggle in that and what it does to church life. And so I just want to, I just want to say that

  16. before we start.

  17. Hopefully that's an encouragement. I don't know, but that's where things are. And my prayer,

  18. hopefully your prayer, is that things will continue to get better. And at some point in the future,

  19. whenever that is, we will be more unified physically together. I don't know when it is,

  20. but hopefully that will happen and it won't be too long into the future.

  21. Let's, let's pray together before we open up the word.

  22. God, we thank you for this time you've given to us. We thank you for your word. And particularly

  23. tonight, we thank you for this passage. We pray that you would help our hearts to be open and our

  24. ears to be open to what you have to say. Lord, I pray that, that I personally would, would preach

  25. the words that you would have me preach and not my own personal thoughts, that they would not cloud

  26. and get in the way of your word, what you would have us to grab onto, to be encouraged with and to be

  27. taught and sharpened. Lord, we pray these things in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

  28. So Acts chapter 2, we'll be reading the last several verses of this chapter, verses 42 to 47

    Acts 2 chapter mention

  29. of Acts 2. And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread

  30. and the prayers. And all came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the

  31. apostles. And all who believed were together and had all things in common. And they were selling

  32. their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all as any had need. And day by day,

  33. attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad

  34. and generous hearts, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their

  35. number day by day, those who were being saved. It's helpful to remember that what we see taking place

  36. here at Acts is not the birth of God's people. We see the birth of the New Testament church, but

  37. still the people of God that he is calling out to himself. The same group of people he began to call out

  38. 4,000 years ago when he started with Abraham. The reason why that's helpful for us to remember is

  39. because we need to not disconnect what God started in the Old Testament to what he's doing here in this

  40. passage and for us now on this side of the cross. We are witnessing here the remnant of God's people

  41. becoming the spirit-filled body of Christ. Before, in the Old Testament, sacrifices were needed

  42. regularly to cover people's sins. Now, at this time, Christ has died and has covered sins once and for all.

  43. Before, God dwelt physically in the temple most of the time. Now, we see the Holy Spirit being poured

  44. out on God's people and coming to dwell in them daily, all the time. And this passage that we're

  45. going to look at tonight gives us a brief window into the lives of this early New Testament church

  46. and shows us how their lives were changed by God. In verse 42, we see that our passage starts out and it

  47. says, and they devoted themselves to. We're going to dig into what they devoted themselves to in just a

  48. minute. But before we start out, I want to ask you a question, and that is, what are you devoted to?

  49. Many people see church or religion as something that they just add to their life, kind of like a

  50. secondary thing, like a sport or maybe a humanitarian activity that gets added to their resume at the

  51. bottom to help them to help them look better. So how about if we change verse 42 to kind of match the

  52. tendency that people have towards God and their own Christian way of life? If we do, it might sound a

  53. little bit like this. And they attended church once a week, connected with their community group if they

  54. weren't too busy, shared meals with others, when it included doing something fun. But we try to avoid

  55. getting too personal and too deep. And for prayer, well, we do that sometimes, at least before meals.

  56. Now, if that was verse 42, you would say, there's not a people devoted to a God here that I can see.

  57. And that's not the passage we see here before us. It's not what's happening to this church that is

  58. called out by God. And it's not what this Bible teaches for his people. If you've been called out

  59. by God to be part of his church, his fellowship of believers, then he has called you out of the world

  60. to be different from the world. Not just a nice moral version of those who are in the world,

  61. but to be devoted to what God calls us to be devoted to.

  62. In October of 1994, I, as a 21-year-old kid,

  63. made a promise,

  64. a vow,

  65. to my then 21-year-old wife.

  66. Sorry, it's still

  67. crazy to think about.

  68. I made

  69. a promise to her,

  70. and she made a promise to me

  71. before God and before others

  72. that we would love and be devoted to one another for life.

  73. Now, if we went into that promise of devotion,

  74. and afterwards,

  75. there was no life change.

  76. We shared things together,

  77. but our lives didn't change.

  78. We didn't come together as one,

  79. like God calls us to,

  80. that wouldn't look like much of a devotion.

  81. You would say,

  82. that's not true love.

  83. That's easy, convenient love.

  84. That's convenient devotion,

  85. because it works out for you.

  86. But that's not the devotion

  87. that marriage is based on.

  88. That's the closest

  89. example I could think of

  90. to the devotion

  91. that we're called to

  92. as the people of God.

  93. Our outline

  94. for tonight's message

  95. is taken right from verse 42.

  96. It lays out what

  97. the people of God

  98. are called

  99. to,

  100. and then the remaining

  101. verses

  102. go into detail

  103. as to what that looks like.

  104. So the first one is,

  105. they devoted themselves

  106. to the apostles' teaching.

  107. They were devoted

  108. to learning more

  109. about this Jesus

  110. whom God had sent

  111. and they had crucified,

  112. the one who gave up

  113. their life for them.

  114. And their eyes had been opened,

  115. we saw last week,

  116. by the Holy Spirit,

  117. and they wanted more.

  118. They were hungry

  119. for the word of God.

  120. They submitted to

  121. and they wanted more

  122. of the teaching

  123. of the apostles.

  124. Why the apostles?

  125. Why them?

  126. It was from their teaching,

  127. we saw last week again,

  128. specifically from Peter,

  129. that's the sermon

  130. that the Holy Spirit

  131. used to open their eyes.

  132. We also know that

  133. Jesus had been preparing

  134. the disciples

  135. for this time.

  136. the great commission,

  137. if you remember,

  138. in Matthew 28,

  139. go and make disciples

  140. of all nations,

  141. baptizing them

  142. in the name of the Father

  143. and the Son

  144. and the Holy Spirit,

  145. teaching them

  146. to observe all things

  147. that I have commanded you.

  148. At the end of Luke,

  149. Luke 24,

  150. Jesus said to them,

  151. these are my words

  152. that I spoke to you.

  153. This is after

  154. he was resurrected.

  155. These are the words

  156. that I spoke to you

  157. while I was still with you,

  158. that everything written

  159. about me

  160. in the law,

  161. in the prophets,

  162. in the Psalms,

  163. they all must be fulfilled.

  164. And he opened their minds

  165. to understanding

  166. the scripture.

  167. The Old Testament

  168. is God's word.

  169. Jesus taught

  170. from the Old Testament.

  171. He taught them

  172. about himself

  173. and how the Old Testament

  174. was all about him

  175. and how it was

  176. to be fulfilled.

  177. And Jesus taught

  178. how they were all connected.

  179. If we are called by God,

  180. then we,

  181. like this early church,

  182. are called to be devoted

  183. to the apostles' teachings.

  184. This is one of the places

  185. in the Bible,

  186. in the New Testament specifically,

  187. where we see

  188. that authority

  189. is confirmed by God.

  190. It says in verse 43,

  191. And all became upon every soul,

  192. and many wonders and signs

  193. were being done

  194. through the apostles.

  195. God is working

  196. through the apostles

  197. as confirmation

  198. that his word

  199. is being taught

  200. and that his word

  201. is true.

  202. John Stott says this,

  203. The Spirit of God

  204. leads the people of God

  205. to submit to the word of God.

  206. That means that we,

  207. as a continuation

  208. of this New Testament church,

  209. called by the same God,

  210. spreading of the same gospel,

  211. we should also devote ourselves to

  212. and be under the submission of.

  213. After that,

  214. we see that they were devoted

  215. to the fellowship.

  216. This word gets a little,

  217. gets a little fuzzy

  218. because it's used a lot in church.

  219. It's not a word

  220. that you would use

  221. outside of church, really.

  222. You don't,

  223. you don't use it

  224. in the workplace

  225. after a company dinner.

  226. Hey guys,

  227. let's go back

  228. and have some fellowship together.

  229. Kind of sounds funny.

  230. It's specific to the church.

  231. The word used here

  232. for fellowship,

  233. the Greek word is

  234. koinonia.

  235. And it's not always

  236. translated fellowship.

  237. And the reason for that

  238. is because this word

  239. koinonia is dynamic

  240. in that there isn't just

  241. one English word

  242. to describe it.

  243. So depending on the text,

  244. it gets translated

  245. a little different.

  246. But koinonia describes

  247. a relationship

  248. which includes being

  249. active in Christian community.

  250. It's sharing and enjoying

  251. the spiritual blessings

  252. that we have with one another.

  253. And it's the giving

  254. of material blessings.

  255. It's a fellowship

  256. that's about participation.

  257. It's a sharing

  258. what we have in common

  259. that is Christ.

  260. So it's much bigger

  261. than what we think of

  262. when we just hear fellowship.

  263. Paul says in 1 Corinthians,

  264. God is faithful

  265. through whom we are called

  266. into the fellowship,

  267. the koinonia

  268. of his son,

  269. Jesus Christ.

  270. that's a deep version

  271. of the word fellowship.

  272. That's got depth to it

  273. that we can hang on to.

  274. The fellowship of Jesus Christ

  275. that we've been brought into

  276. is what brings us together.

  277. New life in Jesus Christ.

  278. For the new believers

  279. in our passage

  280. and for us,

  281. Trinity Cambridge,

  282. our commonality is Christ.

  283. That's what we share together.

  284. So in verse 44,

  285. when it says,

  286. and all who believed

  287. were together

  288. and had all things in common,

  289. that was the unity

  290. around their commonality

  291. was Jesus Christ.

  292. That's what they shared in.

  293. What they now believed

  294. is what brought them together

  295. and gave them unity.

  296. Unity of the spirit.

  297. Witnessing what God

  298. was doing around them.

  299. There was a reverent fear,

  300. it says,

  301. that took place

  302. because of what they were part of

  303. and what they were witnessing.

  304. That's what they had in common.

  305. That's the fellowship

  306. that they were sharing in.

  307. But that's not all.

  308. Secondly,

  309. it's also about

  310. what they shared out.

  311. So it's about

  312. what we have in common,

  313. what we're sharing together,

  314. and also what we share out.

  315. The same word,

  316. koinonia,

  317. Paul uses to talk about money

  318. that he collected

  319. from the Greek churches

  320. for those who were struggling

  321. in Jerusalem.

  322. They were sharing

  323. what they had in common.

  324. If I had wealth

  325. and another brother had need,

  326. then it was shared

  327. as if we all had it in common.

  328. As we read through these verses

  329. and we hear about

  330. how they had things in common

  331. and they sold their possessions,

  332. I want to make sure

  333. that no one gets the wrong idea.

  334. Luke is not describing

  335. some type of a religious communism.

  336. I was,

  337. I'm a Star Trek fan.

  338. At least I was when I was younger.

  339. Just so I don't date myself.

  340. Not the old original Star Trek.

  341. So that was like in the 60s.

  342. It was a little hokey.

  343. I couldn't connect with it.

  344. But the next generation,

  345. that,

  346. that I could,

  347. that I enjoyed.

  348. That was the good stuff.

  349. But the thing I liked

  350. about Star Trek

  351. is there was this world

  352. where everybody just got along.

  353. You never saw paychecks.

  354. You never saw people

  355. complaining about their job.

  356. Like everybody did their job.

  357. Everybody got taken care of.

  358. And there was just this commonality

  359. that was there.

  360. But that wasn't real.

  361. I understand.

  362. It was fake.

  363. And as cool as that would be,

  364. it wouldn't work in real life.

  365. But here we,

  366. there is no religious requirement

  367. to sell what is owned.

  368. We'll see it later in Luke

  369. as we run across another passage

  370. that's similar to this.

  371. But there was no requirement

  372. to sell their own home.

  373. The desire that they had

  374. was bigger

  375. than that default desire

  376. to acquire more for ourselves.

  377. That one that we want to collect

  378. and get enough for us

  379. to be comfortable

  380. into the future.

  381. And then once we feel comfortable enough,

  382. then,

  383. then I can give past that.

  384. Then I can give to someone else.

  385. But let me protect myself first.

  386. That's not the heart of God.

  387. That's not the love of Christ.

  388. While there is nothing

  389. against saving for the future,

  390. God has overflowed us

  391. with blessings.

  392. Jesus didn't come

  393. and give a little.

  394. He gave everything.

  395. And it's,

  396. it's that posture

  397. that we should be

  398. as a church

  399. overflowing

  400. with what we've been blessed with

  401. for those who are in need

  402. around us.

  403. It's why as a church,

  404. we do specifically

  405. set money aside

  406. for when people are in need.

  407. Specifically in the church,

  408. but there could be times

  409. where we give outside of that.

  410. We also give towards

  411. Sovereign Grace churches.

  412. It's a family of churches

  413. to which we belong.

  414. And we pay money to them

  415. regularly

  416. because they give to other

  417. Sovereign Grace churches

  418. that are struggling,

  419. that are in need.

  420. They also send to

  421. other parts of the world

  422. where there are

  423. like-minded brothers and sisters

  424. that are doing work

  425. that need money.

  426. They also use it to start

  427. new Sovereign Grace churches.

  428. And Lord willing,

  429. in our future,

  430. our prayer

  431. is that we would be able

  432. to send out

  433. a church ourselves

  434. and be able to help

  435. support that church.

  436. In verse 42,

  437. after the apostles' teaching,

  438. after the fellowship,

  439. we see that we're devoted

  440. to the breaking of bread

  441. and prayers,

  442. or the prayers,

  443. specific prayers,

  444. corporate prayers.

  445. Let's look at verse 46 and 47

  446. because it gives us

  447. a little bit more detail

  448. about that.

  449. And day by day,

  450. attending the temple together

  451. and breaking bread

  452. in their homes,

  453. they received their food

  454. with glad and generous hearts,

  455. praising God.

  456. They attended the temple together.

  457. Even as God was moving

  458. among them

  459. and changing

  460. their definition

  461. of what church was like

  462. and taking out sacrifices

  463. because of what Jesus did,

  464. the temple was still

  465. the established

  466. central institutional church

  467. at the time

  468. where they went

  469. corporately to worship God

  470. and they didn't neglect that.

  471. They didn't abandon it.

  472. They still went to that.

  473. Day by day,

  474. they attended the temple together.

  475. They also broke bread together.

  476. And this phrase,

  477. the breaking of bread,

  478. can be a reference

  479. to the Lord's Supper,

  480. communion,

  481. that we're going to take

  482. part of tonight.

  483. It can also be

  484. just sharing a meal together.

  485. So,

  486. as we see this passage,

  487. are they celebrating

  488. the Lord's Supper?

  489. Are they doing communion?

  490. Are they sharing a meal together?

  491. And the answer to that is yes.

  492. They're doing both of theirs.

  493. They're sharing meals together.

  494. They're breaking bread.

  495. They're remembering

  496. what Jesus had done for them.

  497. And we can easily see

  498. how this part

  499. of sharing a meal together,

  500. of breaking the bread together,

  501. how it can easily be connected

  502. to our fellowship

  503. that we have with one another.

  504. Some of the best ways

  505. that we can fellowship

  506. is by sharing a meal

  507. with one another.

  508. It could be sharing a meal

  509. with someone

  510. who is in need of a meal.

  511. It could also be sharing a meal

  512. with someone who doesn't need the food,

  513. but needs the fellowship.

  514. The last point

  515. we're going to see tonight

  516. is that they were devoted

  517. to the prayers.

  518. The prayers that were part

  519. of corporate worship.

  520. The prayers that we do

  521. each time we meet

  522. when we pray

  523. for different areas.

  524. They met at the temple

  525. for prayers,

  526. and they didn't neglect those.

  527. They also prayed in homes.

  528. Back in chapter 1,

  529. we saw how they prayed together

  530. before the Holy Spirit came.

  531. We'll see them praying more

  532. in chapter 3.

  533. In chapter 4,

  534. they were devoted to prayer.

  535. They were devoted to prayer.

  536. And so the question there is,

  537. do we feel that same need

  538. to pray?

  539. Do we feel like we're

  540. actually praying

  541. when we come together

  542. and pray all together

  543. for different parts of the world

  544. and for other churches?

  545. Or do we just,

  546. we go through it

  547. like it's another thing

  548. in church that we just do?

  549. When you get in your community groups,

  550. do you pray?

  551. Do you pray like you need to pray?

  552. Do you pray like you're talking to God?

  553. And outside of that,

  554. personally,

  555. do you pray?

  556. Jesus prayed.

  557. Jesus was one with the Father.

  558. If He needed it,

  559. why do we feel

  560. that prayer is not important?

  561. How prideful and arrogant

  562. to God

  563. must it look like

  564. for Him to see

  565. Christians going through a life

  566. not needing prayer?

  567. So a couple things

  568. in wrapping up.

  569. In verse 46,

  570. we see they were receiving

  571. their food with glad

  572. and generous hearts,

  573. praising God.

  574. This was epic Thanksgiving

  575. that was going on here, folks.

  576. Thanksgiving for what they had,

  577. for what they had been given,

  578. for what God had done with them.

  579. It was changing their lives.

  580. It was that thankfulness

  581. combined with the devotion

  582. fueled by the Spirit

  583. that overflowed in their generosity,

  584. their love for the community around them.

  585. First,

  586. first to the community of believers

  587. because of the common bond

  588. they had with one another,

  589. and after that,

  590. to the community

  591. outside of that.

  592. Verse 47

  593. says,

  594. praising God

  595. and having favor

  596. with all

  597. the people.

  598. This is people

  599. outside of the church.

  600. This is people

  601. out in the community.

  602. They had favor

  603. with those people

  604. because their generosity,

  605. because their love

  606. flowed outside the church

  607. to them

  608. and extended to them.

  609. The people outside

  610. felt that.

  611. Lastly,

  612. in verse 47,

  613. it says,

  614. and the Lord

  615. added to their number

  616. day by day

  617. those who were being saved.

  618. So first and foremost,

  619. remember that it was

  620. the Lord

  621. that added

  622. to those being saved.

  623. They didn't add it.

  624. The Lord is the one

  625. that saves,

  626. not us.

  627. We can add numbers.

  628. We can't add souls.

  629. Only God

  630. calls people

  631. to himself.

  632. We saw that verse

  633. last week.

  634. Only God

  635. calls people.

  636. It's only Jesus

  637. who is able

  638. to save

  639. through his blood

  640. and the Holy Spirit

  641. that can change

  642. people's hearts.

  643. tonight,

  644. if you are not part

  645. of God's fellowship,

  646. know that you can be.

  647. If you don't know

  648. his forgiveness,

  649. then let me,

  650. like Peter,

  651. exhort you

  652. to repent

  653. and look to him

  654. who can give you

  655. the promise

  656. of salvation

  657. because no one else

  658. can give you

  659. that promise.

  660. For those here,

  661. for those

  662. who are online,

  663. who are already

  664. saved,

  665. I want you to see

  666. something in verse 47.

  667. There was a sharing

  668. of the gospel

  669. that took place

  670. with the people

  671. around them

  672. as they lived lives

  673. devoted to God.

  674. It wasn't a devotion

  675. that was left

  676. inside a building.

  677. It wasn't left

  678. here in a church building.

  679. It wasn't left

  680. in their homes.

  681. They were devoted

  682. to the teaching.

  683. They were devoted

  684. to the fellowship,

  685. the sharing of meals,

  686. of praying together.

  687. They interacted

  688. with the world

  689. around them.

  690. And day by day,

  691. people were being saved.

  692. That means there was

  693. also evangelism

  694. going on.

  695. They were reaching out

  696. to those around them

  697. and bringing them

  698. into their fellowship,

  699. into their generosity.

  700. generosity.

  701. So,

  702. church.

  703. If we,

  704. Trinity Cambridge,

  705. are a church

  706. called by God,

  707. then we are a church

  708. devoted to God.

  709. And just so,

  710. sometimes we can get

  711. lost in the corporateness

  712. of the name church

  713. and fall into that mindset

  714. like the church

  715. is responsibility

  716. for that

  717. or they'll take care

  718. of that.

  719. Each one of us

  720. individually

  721. make up the church.

  722. So,

  723. if you've been

  724. called by God,

  725. if I've been

  726. called by God,

  727. then each one

  728. of us

  729. individually

  730. need to be

  731. devoted to God.

  732. I'm almost done.

  733. I desire

  734. to preach

  735. the word of God

  736. and do it faithfully,

  737. but I also

  738. fight hard

  739. to try

  740. and connect

  741. things

  742. practically.

  743. So,

  744. how do we,

  745. with an example

  746. like this

  747. of a people

  748. who are devoted

  749. to God,

  750. how do we,

  751. knowing that God

  752. is calling us

  753. to that,

  754. how do we

  755. practice that?

  756. How do we start

  757. to live that out

  758. in this weird time

  759. where we are

  760. in 2021?

  761. Here are just

  762. some thoughts

  763. that I came

  764. to

  765. while studying

  766. this passage,

  767. while praying

  768. through it,

  769. and I would

  770. invite you

  771. to take

  772. an opportunity

  773. to dig deeper

  774. in your community

  775. group

  776. as you guys

  777. discuss this.

  778. First,

  779. I would say

  780. pray that God

  781. would help us

  782. be ready

  783. for when the

  784. smoke clears.

  785. years.

  786. Whenever this

  787. is all done,

  788. by the grace

  789. of God,

  790. we pray that

  791. things will get

  792. better,

  793. and I think

  794. that they will.

  795. I'm not going

  796. to give you a time.

  797. I don't know.

  798. I didn't think

  799. it would be

  800. this long.

  801. But let us

  802. pray that we

  803. would be ready.

  804. Let us pray

  805. for our church.

  806. Let us pray

  807. for everyone

  808. in our church,

  809. regardless of

  810. where we are

  811. in the

  812. pandemic

  813. spectrum.

  814. Because

  815. like all

  816. the churches,

  817. most churches

  818. spread across

  819. the U.S.,

  820. we are a

  821. disconnected

  822. church.

  823. We know

  824. this.

  825. We are a

  826. disconnected

  827. church that

  828. longs for

  829. our unity

  830. to be

  831. restored.

  832. And I mean

  833. physically.

  834. And when I

  835. say these

  836. things,

  837. please don't

  838. understand that

  839. I'm saying

  840. those who

  841. are here

  842. are in a

  843. good place,

  844. that those

  845. who are at

  846. home are

  847. in a good

  848. place,

  849. or you

  850. need to

  851. fix where

  852. you are.

  853. That's not

  854. what I'm

  855. saying.

  856. Because we're

  857. all in

  858. different spots.

  859. We all have

  860. to deal

  861. with what

  862. God has

  863. laid out

  864. for us

  865. in different

  866. ways.

  867. And there

  868. is no

  869. wrong

  870. unless we're

  871. sinning in

  872. it.

  873. But let

  874. us pray.

  875. Let us

  876. pray that

  877. God would

  878. bring us

  879. together as

  880. a church

  881. in a way

  882. that is

  883. deeper than

  884. we knew

  885. before.

  886. Begin now,

  887. or if you

  888. haven't,

  889. or if you

  890. have been,

  891. continue on

  892. finding ways

  893. to grow in

  894. fellowship with

  895. one another.

  896. That includes

  897. people that are

  898. here, that

  899. includes people

  900. who are at

  901. home.

  902. Find ways to

  903. fellowship with

  904. one another.

  905. it's hard.

  906. Fight for

  907. it.

  908. We are all

  909. the same

  910. members of

  911. the same

  912. body of

  913. Christ.

  914. If you

  915. are a

  916. totally

  917. online

  918. member,

  919. then share

  920. a meal with

  921. somebody

  922. online.

  923. It's weird.

  924. We know

  925. that.

  926. But fight

  927. for the

  928. unity we

  929. have in

  930. Jesus Christ

  931. because we

  932. need it.

  933. Because there

  934. are people

  935. out in the

  936. church who

  937. need it.

  938. You guys

  939. feel it

  940. here.

  941. You guys

  942. feel it

  943. online.

  944. Sometimes

  945. we just

  946. want to

  947. hug people

  948. and we

  949. can't.

  950. It's not

  951. right, but

  952. it's where

  953. we are.

  954. So fight

  955. to be

  956. devoted to

  957. the church

  958. of God.

  959. And if it

  960. means,

  961. hey, will

  962. you share

  963. a meal with

  964. me online

  965. Friday night?

  966. Because I

  967. need to

  968. eat and

  969. you need

  970. to eat.

  971. And you

  972. know what?

  973. we can

  974. have

  975. fellowship

  976. with one

  977. another in

  978. the name

  979. of Jesus

  980. Christ because

  981. one of us

  982. needs it,

  983. if not

  984. both of

  985. us.

  986. Don't be

  987. content to

  988. fall back

  989. anywhere,

  990. to hide

  991. behind a

  992. mask,

  993. or to

  994. hide behind

  995. a screen

  996. and just

  997. get lost.

  998. That's what

  999. Satan would

  1000. want us to

  1001. do.

  1002. But fight

  1003. where you

  1004. are.

  1005. I'm not

  1006. saying fight

  1007. to get

  1008. back to

  1009. anywhere,

  1010. but fight

  1011. where you

  1012. are.

  1013. Fight for

  1014. that community.

  1015. And lastly,

  1016. plan for

  1017. the future.

  1018. Plan how

  1019. you might

  1020. engage with

  1021. those around

  1022. you whenever

  1023. the smoke

  1024. clears,

  1025. whenever

  1026. things ease

  1027. up,

  1028. whenever

  1029. everybody

  1030. feels

  1031. comfortable

  1032. to do

  1033. what we

  1034. used to

  1035. do,

  1036. whenever

  1037. that is.

  1038. Plan for

  1039. that.

  1040. God has

  1041. given us

  1042. this weird,

  1043. quiet,

  1044. time-out

  1045. period where

  1046. there's rest

  1047. and where

  1048. there's stress.

  1049. And so

  1050. look to

  1051. him.

  1052. And then

  1053. move,

  1054. plan to

  1055. move out

  1056. in bigger,

  1057. in newer

  1058. ways than

  1059. you did

  1060. before.

  1061. God has

  1062. to

  1063. go live

  1064. a life

  1065. that is

  1066. devoted

  1067. to God.

  1068. Let's

  1069. pray,

  1070. let's

  1071. pray together.

  1072. Lord,

  1073. I thank

  1074. you for

  1075. your word.

  1076. I thank

  1077. you for

  1078. the examples

  1079. that we

  1080. get to

  1081. see here

  1082. in Acts.

  1083. I thank

  1084. you for

  1085. the Holy

  1086. Spirit and

  1087. the work

  1088. that happens.

  1089. We thank

  1090. you that

  1091. you were

  1092. the one

  1093. that saved

  1094. souls and

  1095. not us.

  1096. We thank

  1097. you for

  1098. your promise

  1099. of salvation,

  1100. your gift

  1101. of Jesus

  1102. Christ,

  1103. and your

  1104. gift of

  1105. the Holy

  1106. Spirit.

  1107. God,

  1108. we pray that

  1109. you would

  1110. help us

  1111. to be a

  1112. devoted

  1113. church for

  1114. you,

  1115. to see

  1116. how we

  1117. need it

  1118. individually,

  1119. to see

  1120. how we

  1121. need it

  1122. corporately,

  1123. to see

  1124. how we

  1125. live in

  1126. a world

  1127. that needs

  1128. to see

  1129. it,

  1130. God.

  1131. So,

  1132. Lord,

  1133. we pray

  1134. that you

  1135. would help

  1136. us.

  1137. Help us

  1138. where we

  1139. are right

  1140. now.

  1141. Help us

  1142. to look

  1143. to you

  1144. and help

  1145. us to

  1146. plan for

  1147. the future,

  1148. what you'd

  1149. have us do

  1150. and how we

  1151. would be

  1152. devoted to

  1153. you,

  1154. God.

  1155. we ask

  1156. these things

  1157. for your

  1158. glory,

  1159. in Jesus'

  1160. name,

  1161. Amen.
