  1. Mark chapter 6 and meet me there in verse 30.

    Mark 6 chapter mention

  2. We'll give some people more time before we begin to read the

  3. scriptures. Mark 6:30.

    Mark 6:30

  4. Perhaps I can say this. Because I don't think it hurts.

  5. But recently, I've been Disturbed disturbed by the

  6. amount of false teaching that is being uploaded and shared the

  7. things that are going viral, the things that are being

  8. propagated. And it's almost overwhelming.

  9. I'm not online much, but just a few weeks ago, I had the chance

  10. to scroll through and I am curious to see what's popular

  11. from time to time and evangelicalism and it's just

  12. bad. It's just so bad.

  13. And Jesus told us in Matthew 24, that one of the prominent signs

  14. of the end times, is that there will be deception increasing

  15. deception, believer. Please be careful what you

  16. watch. Be careful who you listen to be

  17. careful of sensationalism. Be careful of people who present

  18. testimonies with their Doctrine and even present signs and

  19. wonders behind their teachings. Be careful.

  20. Cling to the word of God. Hold tight to your Bible, read

  21. it study, it saturate your mind with it constantly because it's

  22. only going to get worse even the Lord himself said that there

  23. will be such sweet Being deception in the lands that

  24. perhaps elect, right? He even said it can be so

  25. persuasive. So magnetic that the elect would

  26. be even tempted in some sense. So be extremely cautious with

  27. what's going out there and you'll be safe as long as you

  28. are close to the word of God. And that's why we love the word

  29. of God, not because it just protects us from deception and

  30. false teachings but because it is the Word of Life To whom

  31. shall we go. Lord, you have the words of

  32. eternal life. So, Mark 6:30 the words of

    Mark 6:30

  33. eternal life. Before I read these verses, I

  34. want to tell you ahead of time that the miracle that you and I

  35. are about to serve a together is one of the most notable.

  36. And one of the most remembered demonstrations of Christ

  37. Majesty. In all of the Gospels, And

  38. perhaps it's familiarity to many of us is because of the

  39. originality and the memorability of this particular demonstration

  40. of power but maybe also because of its emphasis in the word of

  41. God. What do I mean by that?

  42. This particular Supernatural occurrence is the only miracle

  43. That is found in every gospel account.

  44. Many of Jesus notable Miracles have been shared by the synoptic

  45. gospels, Matthew, Mark and Luke, but there is only one unless you

  46. count. The resurrection.

  47. There is only one miracle that you will find in.

  48. Matthew Mark, Luke and John. And that is the miracle that is

  49. before us today. Now, it is believed the monk

  50. most that 90% of what? John the Apostle writes in his

  51. gospel account is unique. 90% meaning 10%, is something that

  52. you might find in the other gospel accounts, this miracle is

  53. within that ten percent bracket. And it is a powerful story to

  54. something that again you and I are very familiar with and if

  55. you haven't already peaked at your Bible, then let me tell you

  56. what it is. It is the feeding of the five

  57. thousand. That might be a misleading title

  58. because we were just told that there are 5,000 men who were

  59. present when Christ did this awesome work of multiplication,

  60. but if you think about it, if you include women and children,

  61. there could be anything between 10 to 20 thousand people that

  62. Jesus fed miraculously at one time.

  63. And so, this, this glorious moment is something that we

  64. know. But my prayer is that we would

  65. look deeper beyond the obvious surface level truth.

  66. Clearly This event is significant enough for the Holy

  67. Spirit to included in every gospel account.

  68. And that as you read through these gospel accounts, you would

  69. come again to encounter this testimony and my prayer is

  70. simply to go through these verses because I am fully

  71. convinced that there is no way. That in one single session, you

  72. can get all that this text has to offer at least in depth.

  73. But we will pray fully trust that as we come before the word

  74. of God today, that the Lord will provide exactly what he is.

  75. Nine to provide us through these verses because as much as we

  76. believe and going through the scriptures verse by verse right,

  77. chapter by chapter, we need the Holy Spirit to still help us and

  78. speak to us. And even in moments like this to

  79. speak, particularly to our own Hearts.

  80. Let's this just become a lecture week after week and so join me

  81. in prayer before we come to this word Lord we do.

  82. Thank you for the word of God and Lord, we do look to you with

  83. absolute faith and hunger in our hearts that this word is indeed

  84. the true word. The only truth, the truth, that

  85. sets free and Lord with absolute reverence and desire for your

  86. name to be glorified. We ask that this presentation,

  87. this declaration of your word would not be mixed with any

  88. error, any personal opinions, any confusion, and how we hear

  89. it. Lord, let there be absolute

  90. Clarity and more than Clarity, we pray for power, we pray for

  91. conviction, we pray for comfort. We pray that you You threw this

  92. word today would speak into our lives, even into some situations

  93. that we might need answers for Lord.

  94. We lean into your bosom and we trust that we will hear your

  95. heart and Jesus name we pray. Amen.

  96. We read. Mark 6:30.

    Mark 6:30

  97. The apostles returned to Jesus and told him all that they had

  98. done and taught. And he sent to them, come away

  99. by yourselves to a desolate place.

  100. And rest awhile for many were coming and going, and they had

  101. no leisure even to eat. And they went away in the boat

  102. to a desolate place by themselves.

  103. Now, many saw them going and recognize them and they ran

  104. their on foot from all the towns in got there ahead of them.

  105. When he went ashore, he saw a great crowd and he had

  106. compassion on them because they were like sheep.

  107. Without a Shepherd, I read the verses that you and I heard from

  108. last week to bring you to remembrance about why it is that

  109. the disciples and Jesus are heading towards a specific

  110. Direction. We know here that the Lord has

  111. organized a retreat for his men. They have come back from a

  112. preaching tour and they are exhausted understandably song

  113. and the Lord seeing their need wants to help them escape to a

  114. desolate place for some private rest and the disciples who just

  115. returned from sharing. Also had it fresh in their

  116. minds, the news of John, the Baptist death.

  117. And this also might have been a blow to their own hearts and the

  118. gracious savior here. Using all that they needed says,

  119. let's go. And with that goal set before

  120. him you and I just learned, we just saw that.

  121. There are people who have been watching them, who constantly

  122. watch Jesus, who are longing for a touch who might have mixed

  123. motives. But are helplessly drawn to him.

  124. They learned about their departure and so with their own

  125. calculations they figure out where they might go.

  126. Maybe they heard, were they exactly were going to go and so

  127. they having their eyes on that boat from the Assure begin to

  128. walk on foot. The news started to spread in a

  129. huge crowd, began to make their way to this place, that Jesus

  130. and the disciples were playing to be alone in.

  131. And as they got there, they waited on the shore and there

  132. was a multitude of people, and you would think now, After all

  133. that happened, all the recent events.

  134. The last thing, if you put yourself in the shoes of those

  135. disciples that you want to see, is a bunch of people waiting for

  136. you to serve them for, who knows, how long, who knows what

  137. taking Jesus away from you, taking you away from your

  138. disciples and your friends and your ministry Partners, put

  139. yourself in their sandals for a moment.

  140. Would you there you are on this boat promised.

  141. Some kind of repose At least it was planned.

  142. And as you approach the dock. There you see people and you

  143. can't make out what it is exactly because it can't be.

  144. It can't be people that are covering those Hills and sure

  145. enough you begin to make out faces and different clothings

  146. and everything is interrupted. Everything is sabotage.

  147. And you were anticipating this time to recharge.

  148. You were just finishing serving, people bouncing from City to

  149. City, worn out by recent travels.

  150. And here. You are thinking that this place

  151. is going to be desolate, but in fact, it is populated.

  152. What about the Lord? What about the Lord, who is the

  153. one who organized this trip? How would you feel if you were

  154. the the planner behind your ministry, leaders getting away

  155. from the hustle and the bustle. Muscle.

  156. So that they can receive natural rest for a while in order to for

  157. them to return, back to their service.

  158. And no matter what your feelings might be, I can imagine if we're

  159. honest, things would be bubbling up inside and they won't be the

  160. probably nicest feelings. Regardless of what you might

  161. confess, how strongly, would they contrast with the feelings

  162. that Jesus felt when he saw this site?

  163. Because the spirit tells us explicitly here that when Jesus

  164. saw them, he felt compassion. Not irritation, not

  165. disappointment, not angst. Deep sincere, heart stirring

  166. compassion. and I'm not sure about you, when I read this, the

  167. other day, the mention of the deep compassion of Christ,

  168. challenged me deeply You know, what you, and I would see as an

  169. interruption Jesus saw as an opportunity.

  170. What you and I would probably interpret a self-centeredness

  171. Jesus viewed as helplessness. What you would feel to be a

  172. burden, Jesus, esteemed as a blessing.

  173. And you know, we look at the text and we look at just the

  174. holistic view of Christ and we know as Christians that we are

  175. supposed to be like, Jesus, that should be our ambition.

  176. I don't know what people mean by that though.

  177. When they understand walking and following in the steps of Jesus

  178. is that the preach like Jesus do Miracles like Jesus know the

  179. scriptures like Jesus. Are you challenged by The

  180. Compassion of Jesus? It's the simple things that

  181. don't really attract us, but it's the very things that make

  182. who Christ is. And if you are a person in this

  183. place and I pray to God that you are you long to be molded and

  184. shaped to be like Christ in your contacts?

  185. Christ, in your context you might not be able to raise the

  186. dead but you can surely be patient and loving If you long

  187. to be like Christ, aren't you blessed this afternoon to know

  188. that the holy spirit gives us an insight to bring us that much

  189. closer to the compassion of Jesus, at least to reflect it.

  190. At least two reflected as closely as possible.

  191. Because we are told not just that Jesus was compassionate.

  192. We are given the reason at least a strong reason why he was

  193. compassionate. And the reason why Christ was

  194. overwhelmed with pity for these people was because we just read

  195. it here because in verse 34 they were like sheep without a

  196. shepherd. This is how Jesus perceived

  197. people and his perception of people produced a level of

  198. compassion. And that tells me something

  199. about how I can see compassion grow in my own life and my own

  200. heart in my own world. Do I see people the way Christ

  201. sees people? And the way Jesus perceived

  202. these people is like we just said here sheep without a

  203. Shepherd sheep are extremely, vulnerable creatures, and

  204. they're exposed to so much danger when they don't have a

  205. supervisor over them. They are defenseless, they are

  206. directionless when they don't have a Shepherd, guiding them,

  207. providing for them. Protecting they are obviously

  208. set up for being malnourished and being led astray and getting

  209. lost and losing sight. Of where they're supposed to be

  210. next and, and filth accumulates because our Shepherd is required

  211. to regularly. Clean them.

  212. And to take care of them. And the reality is the physical

  213. realities of a sheep. Without a Shepherd is exactly

  214. how the Lord and the Holy Spirit here tells us what people are

  215. like without Christ. They're just like that.

  216. Wandering confused exposed susceptible to so much problems

  217. and so much Danger. No matter how they clothed

  218. themselves, no matter their riches, no matter their

  219. education, people without Christ are like sheep without a

  220. shepherd, and when Jesus saw this, it moved him, it moved his

  221. heart. And I think that is critical for

  222. us. Believers in this time.

  223. Do you know why? Because it's very

  224. understandable. So don't hear me. saying

  225. anything wrong here or Or minimizing the emotions that we

  226. should feel about what's going on in our world.

  227. It's very understandable to be angry.

  228. To be disgusted, infuriated, especially with all the agendas,

  229. and all the narratives that are being pushed, not just on

  230. people, but on children, all the deception and all the lies.

  231. I get it. Righteous indignation is, is

  232. totally valid and totally understandable, but you got to

  233. be careful. Believe you got to be extremely

  234. careful because you and I even feeling those feelings can feel

  235. it and allow it to bring us to a place where we prefer judgment

  236. over. See.

  237. We're we feel this anger and Truth Seekers and Truth speakers

  238. can end up like Jonah believers. If you don't think it's possible

  239. for a servant of God to be hardened by might not might not

  240. the church by the world, and their standards, and their

  241. behavior, and their actions and their convictions, the whole

  242. book of Jonah is about that. will you can allow yourself to

  243. actually find greater pleasure and seeing wrath poured out

  244. instead of Grace poured out and Jonah is an Incredible Book for

  245. a people who are in the midst of a corrupt people.

  246. And when he was told to go out to the city of Nineveh and to

  247. preach, he was so reluctant because of the history of those

  248. people, what they did to others and what kind of crimes, they

  249. committed against different nations, this man who

  250. represented, God was more willing to see again, judgement

  251. than anything else and God teaches him, as much as he

  252. teaches the ninevites about his character, do you remember how

  253. the Book of Jonah ends? It ends with a question?

  254. Then and there is no answer following it and I believe the

  255. reason one reason why ends with a question is for the reader to

  256. answer for themselves? Let me remind you how the Book

  257. of Jonah ends, God speaks to Jonah and Jonah for 11 and it

  258. reads. And should I not pity?

  259. Should I not pity Nineveh the great City in?

  260. Which there are more than 120,000 persons who do not know

  261. their right hand from their left and also much cattle.

  262. What a compact adverse filled with compassion?

  263. Should I not pity the ninevites? No Jonah.

  264. Should I not and there's so many things about this verse.

  265. The first thing is how he knows the number of the citizens.

  266. He could have just said the great city of Nineveh he said,

  267. no there are there are little bit more than 120,000 who occupy

  268. that City. Do you know why?

  269. The number is mentioned because he cares for each one of them

  270. The city of Chicago hose close to three million people.

  271. Do you doubt for a moment that God has compassion and pity?

  272. For each one of them. He's the same God, he mentions

  273. the number because he numbered them and he cares for them and

  274. he Longs for them to be rescued from their sin, which brings us

  275. to the next point. He not only mentions the

  276. population but their moral condition, they have no sense of

  277. guidance. They don't know their right from

  278. their left. And the idea there is that they

  279. have no Revelation, there's natural Revelation, but they

  280. don't have the personal understanding of how to be in

  281. the will of God and how to walk in the fullness of the will of

  282. God. And this moved God's heart.

  283. Well, didn't God want to judge them.

  284. He did wanted the judge them and he will judge all men, but

  285. that's not his primary desire. Now, is it, if that was his

  286. primary desire, he wouldn't have commissioned, Jonah.

  287. And the first place, the very reason why he sends Jonah to

  288. this ignorant people. This vicious people is so that

  289. they would be warned and then being warned they would respond

  290. and then repent. And that's exactly what

  291. happened. And so, the Lord, when he looks

  292. upon a vile people, a vile Nation, his primary feelings,

  293. toward them, is I long to heal them from their spiritual

  294. blindness. I long to give them the leading

  295. that we can rescue them from their depravity.

  296. That's God's primary desire. No matter how perverted, no

  297. matter how dark, no matter how ugly they may be due to their

  298. sin. God's primary longing is for

  299. them to be Lee transformed by his love.

  300. And the comfort that comes from this verse convicts me, you say,

  301. why does it convict you? Because of what he said to Jonah

  302. before it and verse 10 of Jonah, chapter 4.

    Jonah 4 chapter mention

  303. Look what he says and the Lord said you, pitied the plant.

  304. You pity the plant for which you did not labor.

  305. Nor did you make it grow, which came into being in a night and

  306. perished in a night. So, you know, the story, I hope

  307. there's Jonah waiting. Looking over the city, perhaps

  308. thinking that God's going to change his mind and actually,

  309. blow it all up, God doesn't change his mind, but he gives

  310. Jonah an object lesson because sometimes you have to treat

  311. adults like children. And so, he does this object

  312. lesson, right? He greets his plan to grow and

  313. it gives him shade there and the desert heat.

  314. And then in 24 hours, it Withers and dies.

  315. And his beautiful head is exposed to the sun again and

  316. he's frustrated because he's uncomfortable and and the Lord

  317. He brings that out of Jonah to show him something and it's

  318. something that actually speaks of some Believers,

  319. unfortunately. You are upset about this plant

  320. dying, more than people dying. Think about that.

  321. That is that is precisely what is being taught here and again

  322. it points to the potential of the believer what do you mean

  323. Believers can be so invested and so concerned with the materials

  324. of this life Even more than about the faith of men's Souls.

  325. That convicted me, I can get more.

  326. Concerned and moved and lose sleep at night about things that

  327. will perish. One day things that I'm not

  328. taking with me. Those things can actually occupy

  329. my energy, my thoughts, More than the fate of people's

  330. Eternal destinations. And there's his, how can that

  331. be? Well, it's possible.

  332. And when I see Jesus here, showing compassion feeling

  333. compassion. It's supposed to cause you to

  334. say, oh, God, make me like you when I see a lost world.

  335. Help me desire, help me live. Help me be bold enough to pursue

  336. people's reconciliation with you and not to give up on them and

  337. not to just give them over to their own sin without doing

  338. something about it. It's really easy to preach this

  339. stuff, right? Like, okay, you're preaching.

  340. It may God help us to do it and I include myself in that.

  341. So he felt compassion, but we read in verse 35 of Mark 6 and

  342. he began to teach them many things.

  343. Ascended verse 34, which is interesting Jesus having

  344. compassion, taught them the truth, remember that?

  345. And when it grew late, his disciples came to him and said,

  346. this is a desolate place and the hour is now late.

  347. Send them away to go into the surrounding Countryside and

  348. Villages and buy themselves, something to eat.

  349. So here the disciples. Now, this turned to a crusade,

  350. this turn to a conference. Thousands are sitting there and

  351. the disciples which I believe here are being very

  352. understandable and and compassion in their own, right?

  353. Recognize the lateness of the afternoon and realize where

  354. these people came from and understood that we might have a

  355. problem here and here's the problem.

  356. If we keep these people long enough, they're not going to be

  357. able to get back to the town's enough, the quick enough, and

  358. then purchase the food to have dinner.

  359. They probably haven't eaten all day.

  360. And so, we need to make sure that they arrive on time.

  361. And so they bring this problem to the Lord and they were right

  362. in bringing this problem to the Lord.

  363. But they made a mistake that often we make when we bring

  364. problems to the Lord, and when we try to seek for a solution,

  365. genuine matters, genuine issues that we want to see come to

  366. succeed. They told the Lord.

  367. This is a desolate Place. Sure.

  368. The Lord knew that the hour is now late.

  369. I'm sure he knew that to send them away to go into the

  370. surrounding Countryside and Villages and buy themselves,

  371. something to eat. They approached Jesus and that

  372. was right, but they approached Jesus with a preconceived

  373. already prepared prescription and expected Jesus to honor it.

  374. This is how we pray sometimes. Sometimes if not a lot of the

  375. times, our prayers are not getting counsel from God by

  376. giving him counsel. And we want that specific

  377. opportunity or we want that specific person or we want this

  378. kind of future and we tell God exactly how to do it.

  379. Not just that went to do it and we think this is what prayer is

  380. Should prayer be specific, absolutely, but be open to how

  381. God would answer it because God will always answer better than

  382. you think. So, they're giving counsel, but

  383. I believe there's more going on here, could it be?

  384. Could it be? That the disciples here are

  385. telling Christ to dismiss the crowds, and to have them leave,

  386. and go back with their own way because they, in their limited

  387. faith. Don't really understand how he

  388. can solve it. Healing The Sick.

  389. We've seen Jesus do that casting out Devils.

  390. You can cast out many of them, at the same time, raising the

  391. Dead, all raising the Dead. The Lord can raise the dead,

  392. feeding the multitudes, feeding the multitudes.

  393. Making food come out of what? Where?

  394. I believe the disciples at this point in their walk with the

  395. Lord, had a category in their minds that they could not

  396. understand Christ occupying. They could see and they can

  397. believe Jesus doing many things. But when it came to this

  398. specific issue, they could not see how Christ was relevant.

  399. They could not see how his will his word.

  400. His wisdom, his power. Could be applicable.

  401. And you think this is just the disciples hold on there, my dear

  402. brother, my dear sister it's not just the disciples.

  403. How many of us? Oh yes, we I surrender all you

  404. can do all things. Okay good good, wonderful

  405. beautiful, hold on. How many of us practically

  406. speaking spiritually speaking have categories in our own

  407. Hearts, where we really don't see how Christ can really bring

  408. solution to. Seeing brother.

  409. What do you mean? Maybe it's because throughout

  410. Ministry you see different issues and you see people's

  411. approach to it. Yeah, Christ can save my soul

  412. but I don't see how the Bible and how the Holy Spirit can

  413. really bring solution to my marriage.

  414. And you have people fleeing to secular psychologists fleeing to

  415. worldly wisdom, because Jesus is good for Sunday.

  416. But he's not really, this is real life.

  417. Here we need real real, salute tangible ideas, not just Sunday

  418. School Stories and so I got to take care of my business.

  419. The way I think I need to take care of my business.

  420. This is money here. This is not lessons for how you

  421. can, you can do better. In life.

  422. And so whether it's business or whether it's my marriage or

  423. whether it's my children and their waywardness, and with all

  424. these advancements and all these new ideas and these new

  425. technologies of evil. How is a 2000 year old story?

  426. Going to help my kid get out of drugs.

  427. How is it 2,000? Year-old story going to deliver

  428. my kids from gangs. And so it's just kind of like

  429. fluff to us. It's just like, you know, And

  430. the point of this miracle, it's one of the many important points

  431. is that he can solve anything. He can raise the debt and he can

  432. make bread appear out of thin air.

  433. The whole idea of this miracle is the disciples have reached a

  434. ceiling in their understanding of Christ capability.

  435. And now that ceiling is about to be extended And so they come to

  436. the Lord. And they say why don't you just

  437. send him away? And let them deal with this, on

  438. their own and Jesus. Here says, you got it all wrong

  439. and one of the Gospel accounts he says they don't need to go

  440. away. They don't need to go away.

  441. They can stay right here. And I think that's something for

  442. us to consider. This Christ applied to

  443. everything or there's some things that just seem irrelevant

  444. to your faith. Learn to pray about everything.

  445. Learn to trust, God, for everything, bigger, small,

  446. complicated, or simple. God cares.

  447. He really does care. Oh, I wish.

  448. I can tell you stories of how God cares about your furniture,

  449. and he cares about the shoes on your feet.

  450. Yes. He cares about your soul being

  451. saved and escaping hell and all that wonderful things.

  452. But he also cares about what you're going to eat that night.

  453. So what happens while they come up to him with this problem, and

  454. look what Jesus says in verse 37, but he answered them, you

  455. give them something to eat. You give them something to eat,

  456. and they said to him, shall we go and buy 200 denarii worth of

  457. bread and give them to them to eat.

  458. And he said to them, how many loaves do you have go and see?

  459. And when they had found out, they said five and two fish.

  460. I love this interaction between Christ and the twelve.

  461. Because it really sheds light on how prayer works.

  462. This may shock, you. I alluded to prayer earlier but

  463. let me bring it up again. That prayer when it is brought

  464. to God does not promise. This might This Might Sting,

  465. this might shock you, but it's important prayer before God does

  466. not promise. That Christ will solve it

  467. without your participation. Bear with me.

  468. There are things that only God can do right there are things

  469. that only God can do, no doubt. But there are also many things

  470. That Christ expects us to actively be involved in as we

  471. seek and wait for him. How many miracles include human

  472. participation before Christ came through?

  473. And sometimes even after Christ came through, you want to see

  474. wine come to this wedding, fill those jars with water, the

  475. Christ, fill them with water know the servants did.

  476. The servants had to get water and fill those ceremonial jars

  477. with it and then he turned it into wine Lazarus.

  478. With that was, they're trapped in a tomb.

  479. What did Jesus? Say, Stone move Lazarus, Alf.

  480. Clots on bind yourselves that he do that.

  481. No, take away the stone. They took away the stone Lazarus

  482. come out. He came out unloose his cloths

  483. and they did. And now we have Christ ready to

  484. multiply food but he asks him to find some food first and he's

  485. going to ask them to give them seats to sit on, so to speak

  486. before he comes through with his power.

  487. And the idea is very important for you and I to consider in

  488. life that when we pray and we expect Christ to come through

  489. supernaturally. It does not mean that we are not

  490. serving, doesn't mean that we're not organizing.

  491. Doesn't mean that we're not planning.

  492. Does it mean that we are not doing things and the process?

  493. Yes. And there are moments that

  494. prayer will bring about inexplainable testimonies but it

  495. also means that sometimes when you pray, God will give you the

  496. wisdom and instruction that is required for you to take the

  497. next step. And sometimes what prayer will

  498. do is energize you and give you the grace to perform what you

  499. already knew, you need to do. How are they going to eat?

  500. Well, why don't you find whatever food we have here?

  501. First, could Christ have made fish and bread appear in his

  502. hands? Absolutely.

  503. But he invites us. He invites Us by faith.

  504. He invites Us in service to him to participate and be part of

  505. the equation from time to time and that's exactly what's

  506. happening here. And so they go and they find

  507. they find some loaves. They find some fish.

  508. We know that from John's account.

  509. This came from a little boy who obviously brought lunch was

  510. smart enough to ask Mommy to bring lunch for that day.

  511. The little boy gives up what he had.

  512. And it was multiplied to feed thousands, but notice what

  513. happens here. Five, and two fish.

  514. Verse 39. Then he commanded them all to

  515. sit down in groups on the green grass.

  516. So they sat down in groups by hundreds and by fifties, you

  517. know, if you've been here long enough that no versus random No

  518. versus insignificant. Let me read that again.

  519. After they found the food, he commanded them all to sit down

  520. in groups on green grass. More than that.

  521. So they sat down in groups by hundreds and by 50s, Mark is the

  522. only one who gives this detailed.

  523. Organization in comparison to the other gospel accounts.

  524. The only one that comes close to it is Luke where Luke says that

  525. they were organized in groups of 50s.

  526. Mark goes beyond that. He's just hundreds and 50s.

  527. Why would the Holy Spirit inspired?

  528. This gospel account writer, this witness to include in our minds

  529. that they were told to have them sit on Green Grass and then to

  530. organize them in different groups and rows of hundreds and

  531. fifties. Well, do you remember what the

  532. purpose of the Gospel of Mark is to portray Jesus Christ as what

  533. the perfect servant of God? And Jesus Christ, your

  534. commanding for this to take place, says something about how

  535. he serves the father and it's for our instruction.

  536. In our example, the kind of Minister Jesus was, is the kind

  537. of ministry. We ought to be in the kind of

  538. Christians. We ought to be Jesus ministered,

  539. attentively and orderly. Attentively and orderly.

  540. You know, there's a verse that Christians often quote and when

  541. they quote it, they usually apply it for a situation where a

  542. Believer might be confused about a certain thing or a certain

  543. decision and they are comforted with this apparent verse that

  544. brings some kind of clarity to that fogginess of mine and it is

  545. this God is not the author of what.

  546. Confusion, but is a God of Peace.

  547. He's a god of order, right? Can you turn there with me?

  548. Because I know what people mean by that verse, but it's not

  549. about when you have difficulty making a decision.

  550. I'm sorry if I disheartened you, but there's context, go to First

  551. Corinthians 14. Very quickly in verse 33.

  552. I want you to see what Paul meant by the spirit.

  553. When he said that God is not the author of confusion but is a God

  554. of Peace or order. First Corinthians 14:33.

    1 Corinthians 14:33

  555. There is the verse for God is not a god of confusion, but of

  556. peace. And we take diverse out and we

  557. apply it as we see fit. And yes, it is true that it has

  558. a broader application and meeting concerning God in his

  559. work in his ways with us but its primary function.

  560. Why Paul said it at this point in First Corinthians 14 is

  561. because he was speaking about the orderly worship service that

  562. Christians ought to have when they meet together.

  563. I don't know if that inflated you or that deflated you What

  564. God is saying here through the Apostle, Paul?

  565. Is that in our worship, what we're doing here in this very

  566. afternoon, this very room whenever you gather with

  567. Believers in our worship, we ought to reflect the nature of

  568. God, and God is not a god of confusion.

  569. He's not a god of chaos. He is not a god of

  570. disorganization. He's a God of Peace.

  571. He's a god of order. He is careful.

  572. And we ought to be the same. You know, when I was growing up

  573. early in my faith, I had people in my life that Associated

  574. spirituality with strange spontaneity, What do I mean by

  575. that? That let me say what I don't

  576. mean by that. What I don't mean by that and I

  577. don't think what they meant by that was that we believe that we

  578. should be open to God's leading that whatever we had hoped or

  579. plan or even prepared. For God can make it very clear

  580. that he wants a different direction.

  581. Amen, we should that is not what these people that I knew, and I

  582. observed meant by this idea of spirituality being synonymous

  583. with spontaneity, What they meant is that there is no need

  584. for Preparation, there is no need for organization.

  585. And that, for whatever reason, if it's chaotic, if it's

  586. spontaneous, if it's unforeseen, then it must be the spirit of

  587. God. And that's dangerous.

  588. For many reasons and there are still churches today that

  589. operate in that fashion where you enter into a meeting and

  590. it's more confusing and unclear than anything else.

  591. And let me say this, many of those assemblies would claim

  592. that such an experienced, such an atmosphere is because of the

  593. Holy Spirit. And that is contrary to the mind

  594. of Paul who is the Apostle of God.

  595. I remember when I went to a conference once and I was

  596. sharing this as many years ago and I met different Believers

  597. and unbelievers introduced himself.

  598. We were getting to know each other and he was talking about

  599. how Spirit-filled his churches. And what God is doing in that

  600. church. And I was listening and he had

  601. made certain comments, and then he said something that never

  602. left me. And I think it speaks to exactly

  603. what Paul meant here. It's a very extreme example, but

  604. it's out there. He said, you know what?

  605. In the middle of the service of the Holy Spirit told somebody to

  606. paint the wall in the church, they would do it.

  607. And that's a that's supposed to be apparently Spirit lead and

  608. holy spirit. Inspiration.

  609. That's exactly what Paul is. Speaking about God is not a god

  610. of confusion. He's a god of order.

  611. And so to enter into an atmosphere, that is eerily

  612. disruptive. And an orderly.

  613. Could actually be saying something.

  614. That the Holy Spirit might not be out an operation here.

  615. At least at some level. But what God wants to see is

  616. peace but not just peace because don't now here's the other

  617. extreme you have people that want peace and order but they're

  618. dead. And you don't want that either.

  619. Lifeless, I don't know why in our Evangelical world.

  620. We have two extremes either have to be chaotic and that's

  621. synonymous with passionate but you're not you're not

  622. bible-based or your bible-based but you're dead as a stick.

  623. Why not be bible-based and be alive and be passionate and be

  624. filled with the spirit and be excited.

  625. You have the truth Back to Mark chapter 6.

    Mark 6 chapter mention

  626. In Mark chapter 6, we are told. Jesus commanded them.

    Mark 6 chapter mention

  627. To sit down in groups on the green grass.

  628. I love that. Even the green grass is

  629. mentioned. Why?

  630. It's comfortable. I know it's not deep.

  631. Hey, there's a lot of green grass here.

  632. Let's make sure that they are cushioned as they sit, you know,

  633. because some people think spirituality means that you have

  634. to inflict pain on yourself and make things uncomfortable to

  635. show, just how serious we are about serving God, that we will

  636. suffer for his name. Well, you don't have to suffer

  637. if suffering is not God's will in this season of your life.

  638. It's okay to think about these things and I love how Jesus

  639. thinks about these things. There's some green grass there.

  640. if that will make people more comfortable, And let's sit them

  641. down and organize them because this can get like a mob and we

  642. don't want to do that. Now, do we let's have them

  643. order. Lisa and we'll have the

  644. disciples. Wait on them it'll be it'll be

  645. beautiful Christ is so practical.

  646. He thinks about these things. It's okay to think about these

  647. things. Okay, so avoid extremes here.

  648. I love how it's in Mark of all the gospel accounts, but I think

  649. there's something else about these Green Pastures.

  650. There are a lot of things and I think one of the reasons why

  651. this Miracles and every single gospel account, is because it

  652. alludes to many Old Testament pictures, right?

  653. Especially in John chapter 6, which parallels, this account

    John 6 chapter mention

  654. where you have Jesus doing this miracle in the people concluded.

  655. This is the profit that we've been waiting for, and it mirrors

  656. the Moses, like, Who provided Manna in the wilderness.

  657. He's the greater one the Moses, right?

  658. He's the greater Moses, but I think there are even more than

  659. that there are. There are future prophetic

  660. implications of this of how the law.

  661. Lord right will come and bring a feast to his own.

  662. That's Isaiah, there's so many, so many, so many, so many

  663. pictures. And I think one of them is

  664. something that you and I know very well, let me let me recap

  665. this for you here, you have Jesus coming into the scene and

  666. he feels compassion because they're like sheep without a

  667. shepherd. And now as he entered sins, he

  668. teaches them and he feeds them and then he places them on green

  669. grass. The Lord is my shepherd.

  670. I shall not want. He makes me lie down on Green

  671. Pastures. Yeah, the Lord Yahweh is my

  672. shepherd. Jesus is my shepherd, Jesus is

  673. Yahweh and he makes me lie down. I love the wording of that.

  674. He makes me lie down. You know why?

  675. Because he knows what you need more than what you know.

  676. So, he takes these people, and he places them, and he not only

  677. feeds them with the truth. The truth about the kingdom of

  678. God, but he feeds their belly and energizes their bodies.

  679. He's the all-encompassing shepherd who's not just

  680. concerned for your soul. But concerned again, about your

  681. frame. And he makes me lie down, right?

  682. He knows exactly. When to put me where to put me

  683. and how long to put me there, he knows what to provide for me.

  684. What to remove from me. He is the perfect leader of my

  685. life. So you have Christ here in some

  686. way. Fulfilling Psalm 23 in a very

  687. real way. And what's Happening Here is

  688. he's not just shepherding, he's not just shepherding their

  689. souls, he shepherding all that they are When Christ is your

  690. Lord, that's what you can expect in your life.

  691. That's what you can really believe God for.

  692. And I think what makes us more worried than anything else?

  693. It's not about our souls getting to Heaven.

  694. It's about how we're going to pay our bills in the next few

  695. months or what. We're going to wear to the

  696. wedding and that's precisely what Jesus taught about.

  697. Don't get caught up with the food and with the clothing.

  698. Right. It's not the big things that

  699. often worry us that still, that is the case.

  700. It's often a little things that occupy our time, and keep us up

  701. and make us run around. When Christ is Shepherd, he's

  702. Shepherd overall absolutely everything and these people

  703. would know it and I'll tell you and closing who's going to

  704. really really know what his own disciples, hold on to that

  705. thought but what happens verse 41 and taking the Five Loaves

  706. and the two fish he looked up to heaven.

  707. And said a blessing and broke the Loaves and gave them to the

  708. disciples to set before the people.

  709. And he divided the two, fish among them all, and they all ate

  710. and we're satisfied. You know, this miracle is

  711. impressive for many reasons. And one of the things that

  712. impresses me is that we are not given the mechanics behind it.

  713. He just multiplies it. I don't know how that looked.

  714. I don't know what happened. Did he pull it out of a basket

  715. that it just appear in his hands?

  716. I don't, it doesn't say and there's reason for that, right?

  717. We're supposed to just trust in this.

  718. But what's incredible, here is the principle that out of

  719. nothing. Can come something.

  720. And this is not just for these people, this is not just for a

  721. moment's time where the people would receive something.

  722. This is a lesson for all time. I'm going to prove that to you

  723. in closing but what I want you to see here is just that the

  724. Lord the Lord is completely aware and completely present and

  725. completely capable of providing. And as these people are sitting

  726. there and enjoying all that is being provided for something

  727. happens. You know what makes me?

  728. So blessed by the story. Is the disciples the miracle?

  729. Yes the prophetic illusion sure. All these connections are

  730. wonderful but it's the disciples we started with the disciples

  731. and we end with the disciples. They were supposed to come here

  732. for a retreat and they ended up becoming Waiters this whole

  733. thing was planned so that they could rest and now they are

  734. running around organizing people answering questions.

  735. When is the food coming? When is our turn and I'm sure

  736. those were asked and then serving them.

  737. And it makes you wonder, because Jesus is idea in verse 31 was

  738. Come Away by yourselves to a desolate place and rest a while.

  739. Catch your breath. Pause.

  740. Rejuvenate and what I see in the following verses everything, but

  741. rest. And, but taking a breath.

  742. Jesus, forget about them. The Christ lose sight of his

  743. own. You know, you have a lot of

  744. Servants of God who feel that way they just give and give and

  745. give and give and they don't perceive what what they get out

  746. of it. Or they don't know of God, will

  747. take care of them. And yet something happens at the

  748. end at this is the way, the story ends, it's verse 42, and

  749. they all ate, and we're satisfied, a picture of physical

  750. satisfaction, but something that Christ gives us of himself,

  751. spiritual satisfaction, verse 43.

  752. And they took up twelve, baskets full of broken pieces and the

  753. fish and those who ate the loaves were 5000 men.

  754. When you go to John 6 and you read there in verse 12, we are

  755. told that the disciples that they are the disciples, the

  756. disciples were instructed. At the end of this glorious,

  757. banquet to go and get the pieces that were untouched and to

  758. gather them together. People.

  759. Look at this and teach about how God is Not wasteful and how we

  760. should not be wasteful with the leftovers of our lives, and

  761. that's all true. But is it a coincidence that

  762. there's 12 baskets? Coincidence 12 baskets for how

  763. many disciples that were called to pick up the fragments 12.

  764. Coincidence. No, no, no perfect provision.

  765. That in gathering. These twelve baskets.

  766. I have a hunch. It was for the 12th servants.

  767. Same brother. I made may be reading too much

  768. into that. No, I'm not and I'll prove it to

  769. you because there was a time when the disciples again were

  770. without food. They only had one loaf and they

  771. were traveling again and they began to talk about their their

  772. need. And go there and Mark to see

  773. what Jesus says to these 12 the same 12 who gathered up this.

  774. Set of leftovers. Mark 8 16 and they began

  775. discussing with one. Another, the fact that they had

  776. no bread and Jesus aware of this said to them, why are you

  777. discussing the fact that you have no bread?

  778. Do you not yet perceive or understand?

  779. Are your hearts hardened? Having eyes, do you not see

  780. having ears? Do you not hear and do you not

  781. remember? Now, look at this, when I broke

  782. the Five Loaves for the five thousand, how many baskets full

  783. of broken pieces, did you take up?

  784. They set to him 12. And the seven for the 4000,

  785. which is another miracle coming down the line.

  786. How many baskets full of broken pieces that you take up and they

  787. said to him, seven will explore the seven when we get there and

  788. he said to them, do you not yet understand?

  789. Understand what that I can feed. Thousands of people, no

  790. understand this. That I can feed you.

  791. They were talking about how there was no bread and Jesus.

  792. Looking at them as a teacher would, after demonstrate not

  793. giving to sermons about it showing into amazing ways, how

  794. he can actually provide, he, you don't get it yet, you don't

  795. understand it yet. How notice he could have said

  796. how many people that I feed out of nothing and they would have

  797. said 5,000 and then 4,000 but he doesn't say that.

  798. He says how many pieces? How many baskets did you pick up

  799. after the Miracles 12? Seven.

  800. Why would he bring up the baskets?

  801. Because the baskets were for them?

  802. And so, when these disciples who yet again sacrifice another day

  803. to serve the Lord, and yet again had another Interruption to

  804. their schedule and yet again gave more of themselves.

  805. Jesus through this miracle intentionally calls for the

  806. leftovers to be picked up because Jesus, yes, Jesus

  807. perfectly knew that 12 baskets would be the measure and that

  808. each of them would have a basket in their name.

  809. Proving what? When you serve him, he takes

  810. care of you. When you serve him, he will take

  811. care of you perfectly. And sometimes you see that at

  812. the beginning, sometimes you see it in the middle sometimes you

  813. see it at the end of the matter. But one thing is for certain, he

  814. has you in mind, you know what this tells me as much as Jesus

  815. had compassion for the thousands Jesus had compassion for his

  816. servants. He cared about those who serve

  817. you can guarantee this for yourself.

  818. If you serve God, he will show up.

  819. He will never ever let his servants down.

  820. He might make you wait a little bit.

  821. He might make you serve in a manner in which you might not

  822. immediately perceive it, but it is coming and the Lord will come

  823. through and you will know his compassion for you.

  824. Not just his compassion through you.

  825. I love that. And I can testify today.

  826. Of eight years of serving the lord.

  827. Jesus, my basket has always been full and as you serve, the Lord

  828. Jesus, you can guarantee that you will know his fullness and

  829. he will make you lie down by Green Pastures and he will bring

  830. you by Still Waters. Does that mean that you will go

  831. through life as somewhat propose?

  832. Without testimonies and without trials, and without the need to

  833. call upon him. Know, the very same people who

  834. experience. The twelve baskets came to a

  835. point in Mark 8 where they felt like they had nothing.

  836. Why? Because God forgotten oh because

  837. God wants your faith. And he's not just going to

  838. endlessly Supply without interruption everything that you

  839. ever need, so that you don't have to worry.

  840. You don't have to wake. Yes, you should never worry.

  841. But to bring you two moments where you actually have to pause

  842. and trust and call upon his name, he will do that

  843. frequently. But every single time he will

  844. come through This is what it's all about.

  845. And I want to encourage the Servants of God in this house

  846. today as the example of Jesus Christ has and this chapter

  847. Christ was a compassionate Minister.

  848. He actually loved the people that he served and especially

  849. the lost the S, the Lost. He had compassion towards them.

  850. But Christ was also a orderly Minister which is important for

  851. us as a church growing up and wanting to see God do many

  852. things. Remember that the spirit of God

  853. is a God of Peace, not a god of confusion And he is a God who

  854. helps his servants as they seek to help him and serve him and

  855. honor him. If you're in a place today where

  856. you are in need, I want to close this time by praying for your

  857. faith to sustain you for God, to come through, because he will

  858. come through and how you can worship and trust him as you.

  859. Wait on him, he is faithful. Let's pray.

  860. Lord, we thank you for this text.

  861. Thank you for what it teaches us though.

  862. We know that there is so much more in these verses that we can

  863. understand and apply and worship you for.

  864. But for now, We have eaten and we are satisfied.

  865. Lord, as we said before, this prayer we want to, we want to

  866. seek you for the various needs of this house, specifically for

  867. those who give their time, their resources, their energy to

  868. honoring, you and glorifying you.

  869. If there is a particular want, if there is a dilemma in their

  870. lives, Lord, we just pray that this story would Infuse enough

  871. faith for them to continue to serve and believe that you will

  872. come through at the right time. And Lord as perhaps some might

  873. be waiting for a miracle believing you to come through

  874. for something that they can't do on their own, may they be

  875. sensitive enough to your spirit to know what you ask them to do

  876. in this particular situation. and so Lord, even as a church,

  877. as we're believing you for many things, as we're believing you

  878. for the future of this place, a new building Growing Ministries.

  879. Whatever the case may be loyal, we will, we will, we will

  880. continue to serve you in the midst and we will continue to

  881. pray as we wait, and we will continue to sing and rejoice for

  882. the season that we are in believing that those baskets

  883. will come and believing that you have not forgotten us as we have

  884. Faithfully served. You, you are a good God lord.

  885. We worship you. We worship you because you have

  886. spoken to our hearts this afternoon.

  887. We thank you for Angie's baptism.

  888. May your hand be on. Her life.

  889. We thank you for every saint. In this place, may your hand

  890. continue to be on their lives for the person in this place

  891. that there's a know. You may they see the compassion

  892. of Jesus Christ that it is not just for then it is for them.

  893. Now here today that they would respond by surrendering to you

  894. as the ninevites then and repenting and turning from their

  895. sin. Realizing that you are the one

  896. who gives life and life abundant and Jesus name we pray.

  897. Amen. And I let stand Church and

  898. worship.
