  1. That's a pretty broad subject. Um, when

  2. we think about everything that we could

  3. talk about, we could have easily have,

  4. you know, just focused in on the the

  5. authority of God's word or the

  6. sufficiency

  7. of God's word, things like that. But

  8. they they all kind of fall in to the the

  9. bibleology if you will of the of the

  10. Bible itself

  11. that you know we should have confidence

  12. in what God has spoken. So as we begin

  13. turn to the book of Job

  14. in chapter 11.

  15. Job

    Job 11 chapter mention

  16. chapter 11

  17. and we're gonna

  18. begin by looking at verse 7 here. Job

    Job 11 chapter mention

  19. chapter 11 and verse 7.

  20. Job 11:7 he says thou by searching out

    Job 11:7

  21. find God? Can thou find out the Almighty

  22. unto perfection?

  23. It is as high as the heaven. What can we

  24. do? Deeper than shield. What can we

  25. know? So, as we begin to look at the

  26. word of God, there there's so many

  27. likenesses and comparisons between God

  28. and his word and just like this one here

  29. about talking about God. Where are we

  30. going to go? Who can we turn to to

  31. understand God and to understand his

  32. word? You know, some people deny, you

  33. know, that the Bible's

  34. is the word of God, that there has

  35. anything really to offer.

  36. You know, Ann and I were talking about

  37. one of the denominations coming over

  38. today. They, you know, the whole the

  39. whole movement just disregards God's

  40. word. It can't be trusted. You know,

  41. it's full of lies and you can't even,

  42. you know, get anything out of reading

  43. it. Well, that's that's a lie from the

  44. pits of hell, you know, and we can get

  45. something from it. We as it says here

  46. about trying to understand God, trying

  47. to understand his word, you know, God's

  48. ways are above us and and uh he has to

  49. make them known to us and he has done

  50. that. Turn to Psalm 138

  51. 138

  52. and verse two.

  53. Psalm 138:2

    Psalms 138:2

  54. you know it's the when you go to the

  55. book of Romans all the the judicial

  56. things that are there God word is the

  57. you know it's the supreme court you know

  58. pastor Rosaul used to say that it's the

  59. final court of appeal is the word of God

  60. is his word he has the one who uh says

  61. what goes

  62. So it's important for us to look at his

  63. word. And here in Psalm 138

  64. and verse two, he says, "I will worship

  65. toward thy holy temple and praise thy

  66. name for thy loving kindness and for thy

  67. truth.

  68. For thou has manifested thy words above

  69. all thy name.

  70. In the day when I cry, you will answer

  71. me and you will strengthen me and you

  72. will strengthen my soul. And then verse

  73. six, he says, "Though the Lord be high,

  74. yet has he respect unto the lowly, but

  75. the proud he knoweth a far off." So, you

  76. know, we can see as we read the word of

  77. God that God is interested in in

  78. reaching out to us. God is interested in

  79. us knowing him and knowing the truth.

  80. you know, he's not above us or beyond us

  81. at all. So, you know, here we can see

  82. that the, you know, God's word is like

  83. God himself, the very breath of God.

  84. It's uh and that word inspired we have

  85. in the New Testament, but it's the very

  86. breath of God.

  87. It's it's his thoughts.

  88. Um it's his will. It's his his word and

  89. his ways. And you know God says about he

  90. knows our thoughts. So as we as we God

  91. can know our thoughts that means we can

  92. know God's thought

  93. on a particular subject. So our doctrine

  94. and our theology that we have comes from

  95. this God who wants to communicate to us.

  96. So you know we we must not and God's

  97. God's doing it. He'll do it

  98. individually.

  99. You know, that's the great thing about

  100. salvation. That's the great thing about

  101. God. He knows He knows my ways better

  102. than me. He knows your ways better than

  103. you.

  104. So, he's a God in whom we can trust.

  105. But, uh, you know, some people just

  106. they're not content with with the Bible

  107. being the sufficient and and their final

  108. authority. So, we have a lot of

  109. naysayers out there. We have a lot of

  110. negative people out there saying bad

  111. things about the word of God. But, you

  112. know, they're in trouble. You know,

  113. people that deny the Bible is the Bible

  114. or people try to say it's, you know, it

  115. isn't what it is. That those people are

  116. going to really struggle.

  117. They're going to struggle with

  118. everything. They're going to struggle

  119. with life. They're going to struggle

  120. with sin. They're going to struggle with

  121. religion, God's all all these things

  122. they're going to greatly struggle with

  123. because they don't listen to God. They

  124. have not turned to him. But you know

  125. Jesus did this very thing. He he became

  126. or he is turn to Isaiah chapter 9 verses

    Isaiah 9 chapter mention

  127. that we see so often in Christmas

  128. at Christmas time.

  129. But here in Isaiah

  130. remember it says here in verse 7 it says

  131. the increase of the government and peace

  132. there shall be no end. So you know he

  133. Jesus is God's government for the

  134. universe. So as God reveals himself to

  135. us as God governs the universe you know

  136. he's doing it through his son. He's

  137. doing it through the Lord Jesus Christ.

  138. He's doing it through the nation of

  139. Israel. He's doing it through the

  140. church. Uh now but this government that

  141. God has like him. He's, you know, God's,

  142. he who are we going to compare to him?

  143. We're going to we're going to look at

  144. some of those verses in a second.

  145. But God is divine. God is perfect. His

  146. word is divine. His word is perfect. His

  147. government is perfect. Everything God

  148. does is perfect.

  149. So, as he wants to let us in on this, to

  150. let us know what his government is, then

  151. the biggest part of that is obviously

  152. his son here and his glorious reign. You

  153. know, that's that's will never end. And

  154. the end of the verse, he says, "The zeal

  155. of the Lord of hosts will perform this."

  156. So, if you're doubting God or you're

  157. doubting God's word, you're you're in

  158. you're in a big you're in all kinds of

  159. trouble

  160. because this is who God is, this is what

  161. God is going to do. He's going to make

  162. himself known. He's going to make

  163. himself known through Christ. And and

  164. and as Psalm uh 110 says that he's going

  165. to the son of God will defeat all of his

  166. father's enemies,

  167. you know. So, this is what we need to

  168. defend.

  169. you know, as we look at God's word is

  170. that, you know, we we just need to be on

  171. the offense with it like he is. You

  172. know, it's well, the Bible does have

  173. something to say about this. And and

  174. here it is. Here's what God says. And,

  175. you know, this is the truth. It's like

  176. God. It's it's just great. It's perfect.

  177. It's it's who God is. It's what God

  178. wants. And as well, we have to remember

  179. what happened in the garden. Remember

  180. back there the devil, you know, he was

  181. up to his old tricks with Adam and Eve.

  182. That's that that was the first thing the

  183. devil said there in Genesis 3:1. Yay.

    Genesis 3:1

  184. Has God said, you know, causing doubt

  185. and causing Adam and Eve to to wonder uh

  186. about what God had said and what where

  187. did that lead to? you know, that led to

  188. ruin and to their destruction and to the

  189. evil that we see around us everywhere.

  190. But but Psalm 119:89 says, "Forever, O

    Psalms 119:89

  191. Lord, thy word is settled in the

  192. heavens."

  193. So, how do we get sound doctrine? How do

  194. we know what to believe? How do we know

  195. what to trust?

  196. Well, it comes from God himself. This is

  197. his universe.

  198. Um, we're not Jews, but we are a part of

  199. the church. Then we become a part of the

  200. church because of the work of Christ.

  201. While we're in the book of Isaiah, go to

  202. chapter 40.

  203. Chapter 40

  204. and verse 25. These are remarkable

  205. verses here in the middle of Isaiah

  206. about the greatness of God.

  207. And if you want to understand who God

  208. is, we have to come to his word,

  209. you know, that's where it's at, you

  210. know. Yeah, we can look at creation,

  211. you know, and and and other things and

  212. how God works in our lives and how God

  213. works in your lives and you share

  214. testimony and I share testimony of those

  215. things. But the primary way that we get

  216. to know God is by coming and and sitting

  217. under the hearing of his word

  218. and let him tell us who he is.

  219. And that's what these verses are here in

  220. Isaiah. You know, God's not afraid of

  221. examination. You know, you want to you

  222. want to check God out, come on. You're

  223. we're all invited. You know, come on

  224. into his word. And then we find verses

  225. like this in verse 25. To whom then will

  226. you liken me? Or shall I be equal?

  227. Sayeth the Holy One. God says, bring it

  228. on. There's no one like me out there.

  229. And uh I remember I said it before I

  230. think when when Michael was young he

  231. wanted one of those Greek mythology

  232. books. He was a reader and I l picked a

  233. thing up in the store had all these

  234. Greek gods in there and I'm like I don't

  235. know Michael if we need to get this one

  236. or not. He finally talked me into it. So

  237. I got it. I was worried about him

  238. reading it and we talked about it and we

  239. talked about the real God and the Bible

  240. and you know I did my best and then he

  241. read that book and he said, "Dad, there

  242. nothing to worry about." He said this

  243. God

  244. has beat them to pieces.

  245. So bring your gods to this book. Bring

  246. your idols to this book and you like we

  247. will say who are you going to equal to

  248. God says the Holy One. And then he says,

  249. "Lift up your hands like worship him."

  250. You know, and that's that's why God

  251. wants us to know him, to know what he's

  252. done. And if we back up now over to

  253. verse 8 of chapter 40 while we're here,

  254. there's so many good verses in this.

  255. Verse 8, but the grass withers. This

  256. verse made it into the New Testament as

  257. well.

  258. The grass withers, the flower fades, but

  259. the word of God shall stand forever.

  260. So God says, "Come on. You you you don't

  261. think I can do what I say? then pick up

  262. my book and you're going to find out

  263. that I can do what I say. So, when it

  264. comes to God, when it comes to God's

  265. word, God says, "Bring it on. You want

  266. to look at me, you want to examine me,

  267. who I am, what I've done, um then then

  268. come and certainly we can look at

  269. creation and see how great God is." One

  270. of the key verses to this subject is in

  271. second Peter chapter 1.

    2 Peter 1 chapter mention

  272. Second Peter

    2 Peter 1 chapter mention

  273. chapter 1.

  274. God isn't He's not afraid of

  275. investigation.

  276. He He's not afraid of that at all. Pick

  277. up his word and and come and and see who

  278. he is and what he's done. He's not

  279. afraid of investigation at all.

  280. And here in verse 15

  281. of second Peter, you guys are familiar

  282. with this this verse. This really helps

  283. us sort out how we got the word of God.

  284. Even from somebody who wrote the word of

  285. God. You know that would be Peter.

  286. And you know everything these guys wrote

  287. was not inspired.

  288. You know Paul wrote additional letters

  289. to the Corinthians. And I'm sure Paul

  290. wrote and Peter wrote and and these men

  291. wrote different John wrote different

  292. letters to people that weren't inspired.

  293. They were just, you know, letters as a

  294. pastor. But when they were writing

  295. inspired, they knew it. When when they

  296. were giving given something divine to

  297. pass on, they knew it. And that's all

  298. through the New Testament. And here we

  299. have Peter who, you know, a lot of

  300. people say, "Well, I wasn't there. you

  301. know, how how can I trust this? I wasn't

  302. there. Well, that's that's that's an

  303. obstacle that everyone has to overcome

  304. because none of us really were there.

  305. But Peter, who was there, who was an

  306. eyewitness, he says that we would be

  307. better off trusting the word of God than

  308. in our experience.

  309. And he says here, I would endeavor that

  310. you may be able after my decease to have

  311. these things always in remembrance. See,

  312. he, you know, Jesus didn't come and edit

  313. the Old Testament. He didn't come and

  314. say, "Well, you know what? Genesis 1 is

  315. wrong." You know, God did have to rely

  316. on evolution in order to come up with

  317. this universe. I'm being facicious.

  318. But he didn't have to do anything like

  319. that. He he endorsed what was in the Old

  320. Testament. And then he endorsed while he

  321. was on the earth the things that he

  322. said. and the things that his apostles

  323. were going to say in his absence

  324. and and we had doubting Thomas as well.

  325. He you know so there are doubters out

  326. there. So if you're a doubter, come, you

  327. know, if you're an unbeliever, come

  328. and listen to God and his word and what

  329. he said and and have these things in

  330. remembrance.

  331. For we have not followed cunning,

  332. devised fables

  333. when we made unto you the power and the

  334. coming of the Lord Jesus, and we were

  335. eyewitnesses to his majesty. When did

  336. Peter see his majesty? Once. Well, he

  337. saw him when he was glorified.

  338. But he saw him on the mount of

  339. transfiguration, didn't he?

  340. There were times that the father from

  341. heaven said, "This is my beloved son.

  342. Here ye am."

  343. So, you know, these are certain

  344. certainties. These are absolutes

  345. when it comes to Christ and and who he

  346. is and what he has done.

  347. For he received from God the Father

  348. honor and glory when there came such a

  349. voice from him and from his excellent

  350. glory. This is my beloved son whom I am

  351. well pleased and this voice uh which

  352. came from heaven we heard and when we

  353. were in the in the holy mount. So he

  354. heard God the father say this is my

  355. beloved son. And then he says we also

  356. have a more sure word of prophecy. Peter

  357. says, "I I'm as sure as I can be that I

  358. was there for those events." But he

  359. says, "This is more assured to have the

  360. word of God." And he says that you will

  361. do well that you take heed as unto a

  362. light that shines in a dark place and

  363. the day star arise in your heart.

  364. Knowing this first, no prophecy of the

  365. scripture is for any private

  366. interpretation.

  367. For the prophecies came not at any time

  368. by the will of man. Nothing ever came by

  369. the will of man

  370. from Genesis to Revelation.

  371. It always came

  372. um from God as men were moved by the

  373. Holy Spirit. So we have 66 books in this

  374. book and and we have 40 different

  375. authors, 40 different writers. You know,

  376. it's not like God just, you know, he

  377. just found the best guy and and who

  378. would have been his son. And by the way,

  379. his son never wrote any of this. He

  380. never wrote a book. He just had his

  381. disciples write it after he was gone.

  382. But this book is is uh come to us in a

  383. in a in a miraculous way. And it's a

  384. great miracle for us to have God's word.

  385. It's amazing that we've got this book.

  386. And you know, it's if there's anything

  387. perfect

  388. on this earth, it's this book. You know,

  389. we aren't yet. You know, the church

  390. isn't yet. We got still have some

  391. wrinkles,

  392. but the word of God is perfect. The word

  393. of God is pure. The word of God is like

  394. God

  395. and it's like his government you know

  396. these uh you know the these these uh

  397. even the writers personalities come out

  398. you know Matthew, Mark, Luke and John

  399. their personalities are in there. Luke's

  400. personality he was a doctor.

  401. There's more on the birth of Jesus and

  402. the death of Jesus in the book of Luke

  403. because Luke was a doctor. So God used

  404. these things in these men's lives to uh

  405. to bring us um his word. And you know a

  406. lot of time just like right here they

  407. knew they were writing inspired letters

  408. and and and sometimes the prophets in

  409. the Old Testament they didn't even know

  410. what they were writing about when they

  411. wrote it you know so they weren't always

  412. you know in the know on what they were

  413. even writing about. But that's just how

  414. great God is. he can write something

  415. down before it ever happens.

  416. And that's what he says to us in the

  417. book of Isaiah.

  418. So, you know, when Jesus, again, I

  419. mentioned it when he got here, he didn't

  420. question the Old Testament. He didn't

  421. correct the Old Testament, he confirmed

  422. it. So, you know, there were no edits to

  423. the prophecies. He and he fulfilled

  424. them, didn't he? Over and over, he

  425. fulfilled a pro a prophecy. He did what

  426. the scripture said over and over and

  427. over again.

  428. Turn to second Timothy chapter 3.

    2 Timothy 3 chapter mention

  429. Here's our word inspired.

  430. And you know this book is is it's true

  431. like God is true. It's truth like God

  432. has truth.

  433. And you know, God lets unsaved men run

  434. their lives. God lets unsaved men run

  435. the world. He's not he's not interested

  436. in that. He's going to destroy that. But

  437. when it comes to his church, he runs his

  438. church with his word.

  439. And and here we have verse 3:16,

  440. all scripture is given by the

  441. inspiration of God. And that word, as

  442. you know, means God breathed,

  443. you know, the very breath of God. So

  444. when we open this book up, we are we're

  445. not hearing from men, God through men.

  446. We're hearing from God himself. That's

  447. what the that's what it means. Inspired

  448. and as profitable for doctrine, reproof,

  449. correction, righteousness, that the man

  450. of God may be perfect, thoroughly

  451. furnished, and all good works. There's a

  452. sufficiency.

  453. So we have the inspired word of God. And

  454. it's more than that. As I mentioned,

  455. it's it's it's you know, God's authority

  456. as well. And we have the sufficiency

  457. of the word of God as well. It's the

  458. power of God as Paul says in Romans.

  459. It's the very breath of God.

  460. And and remember what happened in the

  461. garden when God made Adam and Eve.

  462. He made his little pile of dust for

  463. Adam. And then it says the Bible says

  464. God breathed

  465. and man became a living soul.

  466. So God's very breath produced our soul.

  467. God's very breath produced his word. And

  468. you know God's a generous God. I mean

  469. look what he did for Adam and Eve the

  470. garden and creation and you know let

  471. them get married and let them have kids

  472. and let them raise kids and you know

  473. God's very generous.

  474. And so he is in his word. He's very

  475. generous.

  476. And it said the spirit moved on the

  477. waters back there in in Genesis. And and

  478. the similar thing that Peter was talking

  479. about in the verses we looked at back

  480. there. A similar thing. The spirit was

  481. moving on the waters. Well, God's spirit

  482. moves on his word. Um we have that over

  483. and over as well. That's why he says

  484. here, preach the word in verse two, in

  485. season, out of season, reprove,

  486. rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering

  487. and doctrine. So that's how God wants it

  488. done. He wants it done with his word.

  489. And you remember what Paul said over in

  490. Acts chapter 20. He talked about the

    Acts 20 chapter mention

  491. Ephesian church there and and the whole

  492. council of God.

  493. Well, you know, that's what's best for

  494. us. You know, what should we uh should

  495. we pick something out? Should we, you

  496. know, like like the the Gideon Bible,

  497. leave the Old Testament out? We don't

  498. have time to study that. No, we need the

  499. whole book, the entire book from Genesis

  500. to Revelation. That's the whole council

  501. of God. That's what's best for us. And

  502. uh you know God God offers his word to

  503. anyone who will read it, to anyone who

  504. will believe it. And you know don't be

  505. surprised if you start reading the word

  506. of God that that some faith doesn't come

  507. along.

  508. And that's what'll happen and some hope.

  509. And that's what Paul said again in

  510. Romans chapter 1, the power of God into

    Romans 1 chapter mention

  511. salvation. And in John chapter 1, it

    John 1 chapter mention

  512. says there, we're born from above.

  513. So it takes the word of God, it takes

  514. the spirit of God to bring about the new

  515. birth.

  516. And in in James chapter one, remember

  517. what James said, if any man lack wisdom,

  518. let him ask of God. He will give him

  519. liberally, freely.

  520. So take God up on his offer.

  521. So,

  522. you know, there's never been an error

  523. found in this book.

  524. How long have we had it?

  525. Couple thousand years and even longer.

  526. There is not one error in this book. Not

  527. one. I've had people that tell me that,

  528. "Oh, you can't believe that book. It's

  529. full of errors." And then I said, "Well,

  530. show me one." I've never had a taker. So

  531. that's just something concocted in

  532. people's mind. There's no this book's

  533. like God. It's perfect. And if you don't

  534. understand it, then the problem is with

  535. you and not with the book or with me and

  536. not with the book.

  537. And whatever subject this book touches

  538. on,

  539. it nails it. You know, this is not a I

  540. remember when I first got saved, I used

  541. to read the paper, you know, back when

  542. we had papers, I guess, and I get the

  543. sports page, but in that the back

  544. section there seemed like there would

  545. always be some little article back there

  546. of some archaeology dig somewhere over

  547. in the Middle East. And, you know, they

  548. got in there and, you know, and the

  549. names of the towns were there. And I get

  550. my Bible on a concordance out, go home,

  551. and I'd look it up and boom, there was

  552. that town in the Bible.

  553. I was like, man, I didn't even know

  554. that. And wars and things that have

  555. happened that, you know, whatever this

  556. book touches on, you can count on.

  557. There's not a lie here anywhere in the

  558. geography, in the history. uh you know

  559. the people are starting to figure out

  560. you know some of the things that

  561. happened way back you know before um

  562. Christ and you know way back in the Old

  563. Testament. They're finding a lot of

  564. things like that

  565. um to look at and we don't put our faith

  566. in those things that that's the but it

  567. just shows us if God is historically

  568. right and God is geography right then

  569. you know he's not a liar. Whatever this

  570. book touches on, it's correct.

  571. And uh you know, it never flatters man.

  572. You know, people say, "Men wrote this

  573. book." Well, why why would men write a

  574. book that condemns them to hell?

  575. Turn to First Corinthians 2.

  576. And now we talk about the spirit and

  577. what he does

  578. to help us with this subject.

  579. And here Paul does a good job explaining

  580. those things to the Corinthians. And we

  581. can tune in here

  582. on these things. They're,

  583. you know, that that's the two words,

  584. revelation and illumination.

  585. That's they're not the same.

  586. And revelation is what the word of God

  587. is. It's God reveals himself. But

  588. unbelievers can pick this up and not get

  589. anything out of it. You know, they don't

  590. have the illumination from the spirit.

  591. But that's what that's what Christians

  592. have. We have the Holy Spirit. He's here

  593. to help us understand these things. And

  594. that's what all this is about.

  595. And then Paul says here we which things

  596. we speak not in the words of man's

  597. wisdom. See, Paul says what Peter said

  598. there. There's no human wisdom in this

  599. book anywhere at any time

  600. only. Yeah, Paul would say, "Oh, I'm

  601. saying this as a man." But but those are

  602. clear. But then he would go on to say,

  603. "But the Lord said." So these aren't the

  604. words of men. These this is the word of

  605. the Lord. This is the word of God

  606. that we have.

  607. He says that we might know the things

  608. that are freely given to us by God.

  609. That's why we've got them.

  610. You know, God's government, God God's in

  611. the business of making himself known,

  612. and which things we speak, not in the

  613. words to which man's wisdom teaches,

  614. but the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing

  615. spiritual things with spiritual things,

  616. but the natural man receives not the

  617. things of the spirit of God. So, see,

  618. Paul is talking about the spirit here.

  619. And when we have understanding when when

  620. it goes from revelation to illumination

  621. then we can say the spirit is involved

  622. to help us to know these things. So it's

  623. it's not a natural, you know, we can we

  624. can have, you know, lectures and we can

  625. do things that, you know, maybe are, you

  626. know, a little more devotional,

  627. but when it comes to God's word, when it

  628. comes to God revealing himself, we have

  629. the revelation and the Holy Spirit with

  630. the illumination to help us to know the

  631. things that are of God.

  632. Why wouldn't we focus on that then? Why

  633. would we substitute something we thought

  634. was good for something God has given us?

  635. He says they're spiritually

  636. disqualified.

  637. Yet he himself is judged of no man. For

  638. who has the known the mind of the Lord

  639. that he may instruct him? We have the

  640. mind of Christ. So, you know, we're all

  641. born dead.

  642. We're all born blind. We need light and

  643. life. And God gives it to us, you know,

  644. he he he give us the physical, you know,

  645. we we we appreciate that. We enjoy that

  646. seeing the physical. Well, how much more

  647. has God given us the spiritual? You

  648. know, God wants us to to walk in the

  649. spirit. God wants us to study his word

  650. in the spirit. God wants to reveal

  651. himself to us and so that we can see the

  652. things in verse 12 that are freely given

  653. to us of God.

  654. So that's where the new man comes from.

  655. That's what that's what we need. Turn to

  656. chapter

  657. five of 2 Corinthians.

  658. 2 Corinthians chapter 5.

    2 Corinthians 5 chapter mention

  659. you know, God has not lost his ability

  660. to create,

  661. you know, people are um

  662. people that are dead in trespasses and

  663. sins, people that aren't saved, people

  664. that have never been born again. That's

  665. what God wants to do for you and me. God

  666. did that for me 40ome years ago.

  667. He's designed a new birth. He knows

  668. we're blind. He knows we're ignorant. He

  669. knows we're caught up in sin. He knows

  670. we're in bondage,

  671. but he come to our rescue with this plan

  672. of salvation.

  673. And here in chapter 17, he or excuse me,

  674. chapter 5, verse 17,

  675. therefore, if any man be in Christ, he's

  676. a new creation.

  677. God makes us a new creation when we're

  678. born again. When we come to him on his

  679. terms,

  680. God, I'm a filthy sinner. I need a

  681. savior. I need a redeemer. And and

  682. that's exactly who Jesus is.

  683. And by faith, you can receive him. By

  684. faith, you can pass from death and into

  685. life. By faith, you can have this new

  686. creation and be made new in Christ.

  687. Everything's going to change. How can it

  688. not?

  689. Therefore, he says, "If any man be in

  690. Christ, he's a new creation. Old things

  691. have passed away. Behold, all things

  692. have become new, and all things are of

  693. God.

  694. Oh, this new birth. We We go from the

  695. natural to the supernatural. We go from

  696. being dead to being alive. We go from

  697. being deaf to being able to hear. We go

  698. from being blind to being able to see.

  699. You know, that's what the Bible says

  700. happens when we're born again.

  701. and and we'll see that God was in Christ

  702. reconciling the world to himself. Now,

  703. this brings up a very important part

  704. about our theology. Whatever it is we

  705. believe,

  706. it should be propelling us into

  707. the ministry of reconciliation

  708. because we're in this with God. That's

  709. what Paul told the Corinthians.

  710. Remember,

  711. I planted or Apollos planted, I watered,

  712. and God gave the increase. We're working

  713. with God. We're laboring with God. Well,

  714. that's the same thing here. We're

  715. laboring with God. That's what all this

  716. is for.

  717. God is not imputing our sins to us, but

  718. he's handed off to us the word of

  719. reconciliation. All those things are

  720. freely given to us of God.

  721. Then he says, we are ambassadors for

  722. Christ. So God wants us to take the

  723. sound doctrine

  724. and go into all the world and preach the

  725. gospel.

  726. Tell everyone about the new birth. Tell

  727. everyone about uh the salvation and the

  728. redemption that God has offered. It's

  729. incredible when you think about it, all

  730. the things that God has done. But we're

  731. we're left with what we have now, right?

  732. and and Paul, this has sort of been my

  733. comeback for the last couple weeks. Oh,

  734. wretched man that I am,

  735. you know, and who shall deliver me from

  736. the body of this death? And the older I

  737. get, the more sinful I see myself and

  738. others and and you know, it's just

  739. stuff's creepy, isn't it?

  740. You know, but we still are caught up in

  741. it. We're still like Paul. We're still

  742. battling it. Our old man's still there.

  743. Our old nature is still there. Oh

  744. wretched man that I am, who shall

  745. deliver me from the body of this death?

  746. Not Paul,

  747. but Christ.

  748. He's the one that's going to deliver us

  749. from this old wretched man that I am.

  750. So, uh

  751. some important things for us to notice

  752. and and uh we have

  753. the the things that Paul mentioned in

  754. Romans chapter 11. Go there.

    Romans 11 chapter mention

  755. Romans chapter

    Romans 11 chapter mention

  756. 11.

  757. you know, the prophets didn't always

  758. know, you know, what they were talking

  759. about and they wrote it down anyway. And

  760. I'm sure there were things in the New

  761. Testament that kind of fell into that

  762. category as well. And maybe one of those

  763. things was with the apostle,

  764. you know, when he he here he's talking

  765. about the nation of Israel. He's a Jew.

  766. And you can see all through this

  767. chapter,

  768. actually the last couple chapters,

  769. you know, Paul pouring his heart out. He

  770. he said he'd rather go to hell than have

  771. his brethren go to hell. Moses said that

  772. and he was very sincere when he said it

  773. when he thought about the wrath of God.

  774. But Paul sees here the mercy of God

  775. that, you know, God should have sent

  776. Israel

  777. to hell, I guess, as a nation for what

  778. they did to his son.

  779. But now Paul knows that's not going to

  780. happen. Now Paul knows that that Israel

  781. will be saved. The deliverer shall come

  782. in verse 26 and turn away the

  783. ungodliness

  784. from Jacob.

  785. And he says verse 29, the gifts and the

  786. calling of God are without repentance.

  787. You know, you can count on God. Count on

  788. God. Whatever promise in the Old

  789. Testament to the nation, to that Jewish

  790. nation, it's still valid.

  791. And then when Paul realizes all this, he

  792. he says in verse 32, "For God has

  793. concluded them all in unbelief that he

  794. might have mercy upon all." But Paul

  795. sees the mercy of God and look what it

  796. does to him. Oh, the depth and the

  797. riches and the wisdom and the knowledge

  798. of God. How can we know this without

  799. God's word? We can't. How uncarchable

  800. are his judgments and his ways past

  801. family finding out? He sounds like Job

  802. where we started. Who can figure out

  803. God?

  804. No one.

  805. Who can counsel God? No one. Who can get

  806. ahead of God? No one.

  807. For who has known the mind of the Lord

  808. and who has been his counselor? Would

  809. you please raise your hand?

  810. None of us.

  811. For who has he first given to him and it

  812. shall be recompensed unto him again. For

  813. of him and through him and to him are

  814. all things to whom be glory forever.

  815. Amen. And that's what happens. God's

  816. word that's a worship is the result of

  817. God's word.

  818. You know, we we have wonderful songs. We

  819. sing songs that that that's fabulous.

  820. And sometimes they can elevate us like

  821. Paul's elevated here. But nothing can

  822. elevate us like Paul is except the mercy

  823. of God and the understanding that we are

  824. part of God's plan.

  825. You know, God wants us to know him. He

  826. wants us to know him and all of his

  827. attributes and and and uh you know, we

  828. don't if we if he's our father, we don't

  829. have to fear him. Yeah, we need to fear

  830. God, but we'll fear him as our father.

  831. He's he's here for us.

  832. And um you know, we have several times

  833. in the gospels where I mentioned that

  834. Jesus and his reaction to the scripture,

  835. you know, we have it here many times.

  836. Remember what he said to the devil.

  837. uh the three tests and Jesus saw three

  838. times. It is written. It is written. It

  839. is written. He relied upon the word of

  840. God. Turn to Matthew chapter 19.

    Matthew 19 chapter mention

  841. Matthew

  842. 19 19.

  843. Jesus said

  844. you are in error because you don't know

  845. the scripture.

  846. So let's turn that around. You are in

  847. know in the know if you know scripture.

  848. And that happened multiple times.

  849. And the the disciples saw that, didn't

  850. they?

  851. And it was important for him to see and

  852. for them to see that the word of God is

  853. more important than the traditions

  854. around them and the people around them

  855. and the things and the systems and the

  856. you know the the wrong things and the

  857. bad things that were around them all. It

  858. came down to what the scripture says.

  859. And multiple times he did something like

  860. he does here in Matthew chapter 19 and

    Matthew 19 chapter mention

  861. in verse four he says have you never

  862. read that he who made them in the

  863. beginning had made them male and female.

  864. Who's he talking about? He's talking

  865. about God.

  866. You know it's like Isaiah 9 says the

  867. government of God. That's who Jesus is.

  868. That you know God is going to run things

  869. according to what he said. He can't part

  870. from that. God can't say one thing and

  871. do something else ever.

  872. And he said, "For this cause shall a man

  873. leave his father and mother and cleave

  874. to his wife, and the two will be one

  875. flesh." There's marriage.

  876. Wherefore they are no more two, but one.

  877. What therefore God has joined together,

  878. let no man put us under. And then they

  879. said, Why did Moses command them? and

  880. Moses because of the hardness of your

  881. heart. And he goes on, so you see Jesus

  882. relied upon the word of God. And he and

  883. he says, well, not only what the

  884. scripture says, but who said it? He

  885. said, my father said it. He created

  886. everything. This universe is his. He

  887. governs it. He's the Supreme Court.

  888. So what he says goes. And it's the word

  889. of God and the word of God alone. We

  890. don't have to add anything to it or take

  891. anything away from it. That's what the

  892. book of Revelation tells us, isn't it?

  893. So, don't take anything out of here.

  894. Don't don't bring anything in. Believe

  895. what is here. And Jesus rested on what

  896. the scripture says.

  897. And so can we. And Matthew 21

    Matthew 21:42

  898. verse 42.

  899. Matthew 21:42. Here's another one close

    Matthew 21:42

  900. by

  901. here. He says

  902. sarcastically,

  903. "Did you never read the scripture?"

  904. We should be reading the scripture. We

  905. should be studying the scripture. We

  906. should know the scripture. That's what's

  907. going to make the difference.

  908. And he he brings this up. Did you ever

  909. read in the scripture, the stone which

  910. the builders rejected, the same

  911. has become the head of the corner. It is

  912. the Lord's doing. It's marvelous in our

  913. eyes. Therefore, I say unto you, the

  914. kingdom shall be taken from you and

  915. given to a nation bringing forth the

  916. fruits of it. Here's Jesus giving a

  917. prophecy.

  918. He's talking about the church. That's

  919. the Gentiles. That's us being grafted in

  920. before he was ever resurrected.

  921. So,

  922. you know, God's God knows everything.

  923. And whosoever shall fall on this stone

  924. shall be broken, but on whomsoever it

  925. falls, it will grind him powder.

  926. How about John the Baptist? Back to

  927. Matthew 11.

  928. What did Jesus send for for his doubt?

  929. What God always sends for our doubt, his

  930. word.

  931. And here in Matthew chap 11,

  932. this is the section here on John the

  933. Baptist.

  934. And if you will look in verse 10,

  935. this is the answer he gave the devil.

  936. It is written. Here's the answer he

  937. gives John. It is written.

  938. That's all we need. It is written. If we

  939. have it is written, that's all we need.

  940. And he says here in verse 10,

  941. for this is he of whom it is written.

  942. Behold, I send my messenger before thy

  943. base, who shall prepare thy way before

  944. thee. And verily I say unto you, among

  945. them that are born of the women, has

  946. none risen greater than John the

  947. Baptist, notwithstanding,

  948. he that is least in the kingdom shall be

  949. greater than he. So Jesus sends a verse

  950. to help John get through his unbelief.

  951. So you know that's what we've got to do.

  952. You know, we got to be like John the

  953. Baptist. We got to study the word. We

  954. got to be like Peter. We got to study

  955. the word. And that's what that's what

  956. God gave us. You know, we weren't there

  957. when Jesus come out of the grave. We

  958. weren't there when he ascended to

  959. heaven. We weren't there when he told

  960. Thomas to put his finger in his holes in

  961. his hands.

  962. But we have something better. We have

  963. the word of God.

  964. And that was the proof that he gave on

  965. the road to Emmas. If you remember the

  966. disciples there, they were gloom and

  967. doom, weren't they?

  968. And and then he

  969. He showed them in the Old Testament

  970. who he was and who he what he was going

  971. to do. So God gives us the word of God.

  972. So you know we can build our lives on

  973. the word of God.

  974. You know if God said it and we've got

  975. the promise then we can count we can

  976. count on we can take it to eternity.

  977. So, you know, that's what happens is we

  978. have, you know, we have we're slow to

  979. believe. We're like we're like them.

  980. We're like the disciples. We're slow to

  981. believe all the scripture says. You

  982. know, it's not the scripture that's the

  983. problem. It's us.

  984. It's our faith.

  985. But that's what we need to do. We need

  986. to respond to the scripture and say, "It

  987. is written or or thus sayeth the Lord."

  988. And you know everybody and we can all

  989. say together, you know, that's that's

  990. what that word amen is for. We just, you

  991. know, it's a truth

  992. and we can say it together. Whatever

  993. whatever's in this book, it's it's amen.

  994. It's a truth.

  995. So everything that you know we have in

  996. the word of God, everything you know

  997. that that God confronts us with,

  998. we need to believe it,

  999. you know, and we need to to to follow

  1000. it.

1001. And that's what Paul said when we looked

1002. in first Corinthians a minute ago, you

1003. know, his he said his preaching was not

1004. in the wisdom of men, but in the power

  1005. of God.

1006. you know that faith and obedience

1007. should follow the word of God and God's

  1008. precious promises.

1009. And that's what the Bible says that he

1010. does. Look in Romans chapter 8.

    Romans 8 chapter mention

  1011. Romans in chapter 8,

1012. we have the Holy Spirit in us that God's

1013. given us. We have the word of God in

1014. front of us, before us and you know and

  1015. the two come together

1016. and when the the two come together then

1017. we have a an assuring we have a we have

1018. a um you know a faith rests in what the

  1019. word of God says

1020. which is better than physical proof.

  1021. And here

  1022. chapter 8

1023. in verse 16 he says the spirit himself

  1024. bears witness

1025. with our spirit that we are the children

  1026. of God. What's beareth witness? That's

1027. that's the Greek word testimony. We we

1028. testimony with the with the spirit. We

  1029. go back and forth.

1030. The spirit gives us assurance. Spirit

1031. gives us confidence. spirit gives us

1032. faith in God's word. You know, that's

1033. what we need that we are the children of

1034. God. So, we need this, you know, and

1035. there's only one place we can get it.

1036. It's from his word and through his

  1037. spirit.

1038. And uh, you know, every writer in the

1039. New Testament mentioned the Holy Spirit.

1040. You know, it started with Jesus. you

1041. know, he mentioned it, you know, and

1042. then Peter and and and Luke and James

1043. and John and and all the apostles in the

1044. New Testament, they said, "Here comes

1045. the spirit and here's what he's going to

  1046. do."

1047. And he guided the church. And we have,

1048. you know, that witness from from the

1049. word of God that those things happen.

1050. And that's what the spirit does. He

  1051. illuminates the revelation

1052. of God. He he he opens our minds like

1053. back there in Romans 11 with Paul when

1054. he just God how great you are. Oh God

1055. how tremendous you are. I worship you

1056. and I praise you. Thus the spirit opens

1057. our mind and our eyes to see the glory

  1058. of God.

1059. And there's nothing higher than that.

1060. You know that's why you know you're

1061. cheating yourselves if you think the

  1062. Bible's a lie. You're cheating yourself.

1063. If you think the Bible's fairy tales,

  1064. you're cheating yourself.

  1065. It's your fault, not God's. He's done

1066. everything to make himself known. Look

  1067. in First Thessalonians 1.

1068. Here, Paul puts the two together.

  1069. 1 Thessalonians 1

    1 Thessalonians 1:5

1070. verse 5. Even Paul needed this.

1071. He says, "Our gospel came not unto you

1072. only in word but in power and in Holy

1073. Spirit and in much assurance as you have

1074. known what manner of men we were among

1075. you for your sake. And you became

1076. followers of us and of the Lord, having

1077. received the word in much affliction

1078. with the joy of the Holy Spirit." So

1079. there the two are together. There Paul

  1080. himself

1081. uh needed this. So, you know, there's no

1082. greater business. We have a lot of

1083. businesses in the world and in our

1084. country and we need them and some of you

1085. own them and run them and they're great.

1086. But the business of the church is the

1087. word of God. Business of the church is

1088. to stand for this sound doctrine and to

1089. proclaim these things that God said to

1090. proclaim. It's not up to us. It's up to

1091. him. and you know so we can be like Paul

1092. to God be the glory both now and forever

1093. more. Let's pray. Father, we thank you

1094. this morning for your word

1095. and uh your your book. It's an amazing

1096. book, Father, that we sinful people can

1097. get to know a holy God and a just God.

1098. And we thank you for your government. It

1099. was you that came looking for us. It was

1100. you, Father, that as Paul said, the are

1101. in the ministry of reconciliation.

1102. And we thank you that you have

1103. reconciled us to you through your

1104. precious son. And we thank you for him.

1105. Thank you, Lord Jesus, for this great

  1106. gift

1107. as Paul told the Corinthians, the things

1108. that are freely given to us of God. And

1109. we thank you this morning for those

1110. things, Father. and we pray in your

  1111. son's name. Amen.

1112. Lord, as we go from this place,

  1113. loving you more,

  1114. trusting you more.

1115. May the power of your love and the light

1116. of your word shine to a sin darkened

1117. world as we go from this
