  2. doctrines of the word of God.

  3. We've looked at the word of God itself.

  4. Last week we looked at the purposes of

  5. the word of God.

  6. This week we're going to

  7. open your Bibles for the book of Jude.

  8. Going to make a reference here.

  9. But if you've been with us, you know the

  10. importance of God's word, the importance

  11. of hearing from God.

  12. The Bible is the word of God. It's

  13. without error. It's our final authority.

  14. It's sufficient.

  15. All those wonderful things that we've

  16. been looking at.

  17. So, our approach to God and his word is

  18. that God is who he says he is.

  19. Um, I want to pick up a word here this

  20. morning in the book of Jude.

  21. Today, we're going to look at a holy

  22. faith and a holy trinity.

  23. You want a title for the message. And

  24. here we have that holy faith and one of

  25. the members of the trinity

  26. and the second member of the trinity and

  27. the third member of the trinity talking

  28. about a most holy faith here. So that's

  29. our approach to God and to his word. God

  30. is holy. God is just and God is perfect.

  31. God is who he says he is. God is

  32. wonderful.

  33. A loving, gracious, kind God. And he he

  34. reveals himself to us and he wants us to

  35. have a holy faith in in this holy

  36. trinity

  37. as he says here in verse 20. But you

  38. beloved build up yourselves on your most

  39. holy faith

  40. praying in the Holy Spirit. And here's

  41. some defensive moves for us. Keep

  42. yourselves in the love of God looking

  43. for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ

  44. unto

  45. eternal life.

  46. So we begin this morning to talking

  47. about this holy faith and a holy God.

  48. And how can we not uh go to the book of

  49. Hebrews in chapter 11 when we talk about

  50. faith.

  51. Hebrews chapter 11. You know God is who

    Hebrews 11 chapter mention

  52. he says he is. He's this, you know, the

  53. almighty

  54. uh the supreme ruler of the universe.

  55. We're going to look at some of those

  56. verses here in a little bit. And you

  57. know, go God is powerful, isn't he? His

  58. word is powerful. He is powerful.

  59. And we want to see him as he is in the

  60. scripture, in the word of God. That's so

  61. important. And here in Hebrews chap 11

  62. and verse 6,

  63. he says, "Without faith, it is

  64. impossible to please him. For he that

  65. comes to God must believe that he is and

  66. a rewarder of them that diligently seek

  67. him. So it's so important for us to to

  68. uh take our most holy faith to the word

  69. of God and understand, you know, these

  70. great attributes of God. God uh he's

  71. he's who he says he is. He's uh very

  72. powerful and it's impossible to please

  73. God without faith.

  74. You guys are familiar with this. Well,

  75. um, if you will look back over in

  76. Hebrews 11 and verse one, here we have

  77. that faith verse. Faith is the substance

  78. of things hoped for, the evidence of

  79. things not seen. So, you know, God has

  80. the ability to reveal himself to us in

  81. his word and then this faith that, you

  82. know, he's given to us and called us to.

  83. And uh you know God is and his word are

  84. are are perfect. You know we saw that

  85. the last couple weeks and you know we

  86. have the the the one of the only perfect

  87. things on the earth is the word of God.

  88. And we've stressed that here the last

  89. couple weeks. And the reason it's

  90. perfect is because God's perfect and he

  91. is the one that gave it to us. So, you

  92. know, whether it touches on history or

  93. whether it touches on the present or or

  94. it talks about the future and prophecy,

  95. whatever area God's word covers is uh

  96. it's it's right. It's accurate. And you

  97. know, we have a very powerful book here

  98. that helps us uh in this. And we're

  99. seeing that the, you know, the purpose

  100. of God's word is for us to have a most

  101. holy faith uh in this holy trinity that

  102. God is

  103. uh in his word. And

  104. going to dive into that here a little

  105. bit this morning.

  106. So, you know, it's sort of where

  107. it's sort of where Moses began with God,

  108. right?

  109. you know, and it's where the disciples

  110. began with Jesus.

  111. Remember Moses

  112. um you know, he Moses had a difficult

  113. time

  114. understanding that God wanted to use

  115. him,

  116. you know, and and he said, "Who am I

  117. going to tell the people you are?" And

  118. then you know the verse God said, "He's

  119. the great I am." So our understanding of

  120. God is just that's like the very first

  121. thing

  122. uh in serving God and it helped Moses

  123. and and the disciples as well remember

  124. them. Jesus said who do the men say that

  125. I am there in Matthew remember that

  126. verse and and then uh you know he he

  127. zeroed in to them and he said but who do

  128. you say that I am?

  129. So our faith responds to God and to his

  130. word. That's the intent,

  131. you know, that for us to have a most

  132. holy faith in this uh holy God. And as

  133. it says here in Hebrews, it's the

  134. evidence of things, you know, not seen,

  135. knowing that, you know, God cannot lie.

  136. We have that verse in Titus. So, you

  137. know, trust is always the answer

  138. is trust God in everything and and

  139. that's that was the uh the struggle that

  140. the disciples had. You know, they wanted

  141. to trust themselves and not trust the

  142. Lord. That's where they got in trouble.

  143. That Moses as well, he he wanted to

  144. trust in himself but not in the Lord.

  145. And that's where he got in trouble. And

  146. that's where we get in trouble

  147. is we, you know, we don't trust the Lord

  148. or we trust in ourselves. I reference

  149. last week to what Mary said at the the

  150. uh marriage feast in Canaan, the wedding

  151. in Canaan

  152. about Jesus. She said, "Whatever he

  153. says, do it." You know, so it's, you

  154. know, God's made it very simple for us.

  155. If it's in here, do it. If it says the

  156. word of God says it, then faith should

  157. uh grab a hold of it uh and move on, not

  158. let our lives be dominated by

  159. circumstances or problems, if you will,

  160. or or issues of life. And that usually

  161. what separates,

  162. you know, Christians from, you know,

  163. real Christians. I guess some people

  164. think they're Christians and, you know,

  165. they can't go through a trial, they

  166. can't go through a difficulty.

  167. And you know the Bible says that we are

  168. going to go through difficulties and

  169. that's what faith is for faith in God

  170. not faith in ourselves and faith to

  171. trust him

  172. as the book of Hebrews says here as we

  173. looked at in chapter uh 11

  174. turn over to John chapter 5.

    John 5 chapter mention

  175. So the apostles and the disciples, they

  176. had to learn this, you know, not to

  177. trust in themselves, but to trust in the

  178. Lord. And Jesus said, "Who do you say I

  179. am?" Okay, you think I'm God, but you're

  180. not doing what I say. You know, that was

  181. a that was a difficulty for Jesus to

  182. see, you know, the people that would,

  183. you know, they would, you know,

  184. outwardly praise him, outwardly

  185. demonstrate faith or outwardly, you

  186. know, the crowds, how many crowds did

  187. that? you know how many crowds said you

  188. know we're going to follow him and then

  189. they didn't follow him

  190. and Jesus is not looking for crowds he's

  191. looking for individuals

  192. and that's what we have throughout the

  193. word of God even the even the apostles

  194. you know they were each one of them had

  195. their own individual relationship

  196. with Jesus

  197. and here in John chapter 5

    John 5 chapter mention

  198. pick it up in verse 19 where Jesus says

  199. verily verily I say unto you The son can

  200. do nothing of himself, but what he sees

  201. the father do and whatever things uh he

  202. doeth these also doeth the son in the

  203. same manner. So, you know, Jesus was he

  204. spent time with the apostles saying

  205. saying these things that well I'm

  206. everything I'm doing is what my father

  207. wants done you know not just once a day

  208. or not just once a week or not you know

  209. for a week or two or for a month or two

  210. no it's forever and that's what Jesus

  211. says for the father loveth the son and

  212. he shows him all things that he himself

  213. doeth he will show him greater works

  214. than these

  215. that you may marvel. For as a father

  216. raised up the dead and giveth life to

  217. them, even so the son giveth life to

  218. whomsoever he wills. So Jesus is saying,

  219. you're following me. You're following

  220. the father. You're listening to me.

  221. You're listening to the father. God the

  222. father and God the son are are in 100%

  223. agreement

  224. on all of these things.

  225. So Jesus is looking for individuals to

  226. follow him.

  227. you know, out of the crowd and out of

  228. the world and out of the, you know,

  229. everything that's going on out there. He

  230. wants he wants people to come to him and

  231. and he tells us how to do it.

  232. For all men should honor the Son even as

  233. they honor the father. So, you know, God

  234. God the Father deserves our holy faith

  235. and and God the Son deserves our holy

  236. faith. And Jesus says here for us to do

  237. that. Just you you want to know the

  238. Father, then follow me.

  239. And it was a hard hard thing for them,

  240. some of them.

  241. And he says in verse 23, he had he that

  242. honors not the son honors not the father

  243. who has sent him. So it's a it's a sin

  244. not to follow Jesus.

  245. It's a sin against God. It's a sin

  246. against the father for us not to follow

  247. Jesus.

  248. So when we do follow Jesus, this is the

  249. right thing. We attach our faith to him

  250. and we follow him.

  251. And then he says in verse 24, "Verily,

  252. verily, I say unto you, he that hears my

  253. word and believes on him that sent me

  254. has everlasting life and will not come

  255. into judgment but has passed from death

  256. into life." There's the new birth. So,

  257. you know, God gives us these things, you

  258. know, that we as individuals can be born

  259. again. We as individuals can follow uh

  260. the Lord Jesus. And you know, he he he

  261. brought it up to them, you know, when

  262. they got in trouble. They were, you

  263. know, listening to themselves or they

  264. were listening to the crowd or they were

  265. listening to the Pharisees. They were

  266. they were doing everything but listening

  267. to Jesus.

  268. And that was a lesson they had to learn.

  269. That's a lesson that we have to learn as

  270. well. Whatever he says, do it and attach

  271. our most holy faith um to him. And then

  272. he, you know, he talks about abiding.

  273. We're going to see that in a minute when

  274. we get back in some of these verses here

  275. in John. But but there's that abiding

  276. that he wants, you know, and and we

  277. abide with Christ. How? We abide with

  278. him in his word. We abide with him in

  279. prayer. We abide with him in in a lot of

  280. ways, but you know, there's nobody else

  281. that deserves,

  282. you know, this from us. I mean, he's

  283. God, you know, and that's what the first

  284. commandment was to put the Lord your God

  285. ahead of everything and before

  286. everything, you know, and, you know,

  287. don't be like the devil. Don't be like,

  288. you know, those that just hear and and

  289. don't do. He warns us of those things.

  290. We want to we as well, you know, we want

  291. to be like the Bereans.

  292. We want to study the word of God. We

  293. want to spend time in the word of God.

  294. Not only to know the truth, but to do

  295. the truth and to know this is what he

  296. said for us to do. God the father says,

  297. "Follow God the son." You honor him. You

  298. honor me by honoring him. And then, you

  299. know, as Romans says, faith comes by

  300. hearing and hearing by the word of God

  301. or, you know, by the truth and the sound

  302. doctrine that the word of God has for

  303. us.

  304. You know, that's that's what our that's

  305. what our theology is. It's it's the

  306. revelation of God, who who he is and

  307. what he's done, that we might have a

  308. reverence and an awe and a respect and a

  309. worship for God the Son, for God the

  310. Father, and for the Holy Spirit, the

  311. whole Trinity's

  312. involved in these things.

  313. So, as we, you know, get into this

  314. series, we're going to be able to to

  315. look at, you know, how how many

  316. different attributes does God have?

  317. That's a pretty long list,

  318. you know, and I'm not saying we're going

  319. to go through each one of them and

  320. exhaustively exhaust every single one of

  321. these attributes, but we need to see,

  322. you know, that we can put our faith in

  323. God. God set this up this way. You know,

  324. this is how we follow. This is how we uh

  325. we fellowship

  326. with him. And you know the world,

  327. we want to listen to God above the

  328. world. We want to listen to God above um

  329. religion. We want to listen to God above

  330. the government, you know, and and the

  331. and the Bible says for us to obey the

  332. government, but above them is him. And

  333. above, you know, what they say is what

  334. God says. And knowing God is is

  335. faith-based.

  336. You know, that's that's how Moses got to

  337. know God. That's how the disciples, the

  338. apostles got to know Jesus. This this is

  339. faithbased.

  340. Um knowing God is faith-based. And it's

  341. not IQ based. you know, people

  342. who naturally, you know, smart and

  343. sharp. And I'm glad we have people that

  344. are smart and sharp, but you don't need

  345. that to know God. You know, we know God

  346. through faith. Not saying we have to

  347. play dumb or anything like that, but

  348. following Jesus is faith-based, not IQ

  349. based. And that's what the word of God

  350. says. So, you know, we we can't list all

  351. the great things of God, but one of them

  352. is, you know, God is just he he is just

  353. inexhaustible.

  354. He he's infinite.

  355. He's um what what Paul says over in

  356. Ephesians, turn over there.

  357. Ephesians chapter 4.

    Ephesians 4 chapter mention

  358. And um verse 20,

  359. God is infinite.

  360. Um he is inexhaustible. We cannot

  361. exhaust God

  362. in any way. We can't exhaust his

  363. resources. We can't exhaust his

  364. attributes. We can't exalt God in any

  365. way. We can't touch him with that. He's

  366. above that and beyond that. And that's

  367. what Paul says here in chapter

  368. 4.

  369. Now I lost my verse.

  370. Oh 320, not 420. Chapter makes a

  371. difference then.

  372. You guys are familiar with this one of

  373. Paul's prayers. Ephesians has a lot of

  374. prayers, but you know, he Paul knows who

  375. Paul knows who God is.

  376. You know, that's what glory is is when

  377. we know God's glory. And we can say God,

  378. you're glorious. You you know, you

  379. cannot change. You are inexhaustible.

  380. You you cannot we cannot wear you. We

  381. cannot wear you out. We cannot wear you

  382. down.

  383. And that encourages us, doesn't it? And

  384. Paul says that here now unto him who is

  385. able to do exceedingly abundantly above

  386. all that we ask or think. So there God,

  387. he's just infinite

  388. according to the power that works in us.

  389. Unto him be the glory in the church

  390. throughout all the ages world without

  391. end. So you know, God, he's just he's

  392. just bountiful. He's He's got

  393. everything. Wisdom, mercy, grace. He's

  394. got all these wonderful resources,

  395. love, all those great things that God

  396. has and he possesses. And we can't we

  397. can't weary him. Can't wear him down.

  398. And you know, he cannot be depleted in

  399. any way. And that's what this verse says

  400. here. Exceedingly abundant above all

  401. that we ask or think. He put both of

  402. them in there.

  403. So God's above all all that we can ask

  404. and all that we can think according to

  405. the great power that works in us.

  406. So, you know, let's ought to assure us

  407. every day when we get up,

  408. you know, I I can well, I can mess up

  409. today or I I didn't make the best plans

  410. for the day or, you know, or I had a

  411. problem, but never God. Never God. Never

  412. can we point to God and say, you know,

  413. he's he's had a bad day. God had an off

  414. day. It's never happened. Never will.

  415. Turn over to Psalm 104.

  416. Psalm

  417. 104

  418. verse one.

  419. Psalm 104 verse one.

  420. Is is there anything that's impossible

  421. with God?

  422. Well, there are a couple things that are

  423. impossible with God. He can't sin.

  424. He can't be tempted.

  425. So, there are some things that God can't

  426. do.

  427. But here,

  428. nothing is impossible with God.

  429. He can make an axe float. He can make a

  430. donkey talk.

  431. God uh he's not held back by things like

  432. we are.

  433. And we have quite a few psalms here that

  434. talk about this great attribute of God

  435. that we just can't wear him down. Bless

  436. the Lord, oh my soul.

  437. Oh Lord, my God, thou art very great.

  438. Thou art clothed with honor and majesty.

  439. We need to know that about God. you

  440. know, he's he's more royal. He's more

  441. than than anybody on this planet.

  442. Remember the the Queen of England? You

  443. know, people had to do certain things

  444. when they were in her presence

  445. because she was the queen.

  446. Well, there's somebody greater than the

  447. queen, and that's God.

  448. He covers herself with the light, with

  449. as with the garment. He stretches out

  450. the heavens like a curtain. who lays the

  451. beams of his chambers and the waters. He

  452. makes the clouds, his chariot. He walks

  453. upon the wings of the wind. He makes his

  454. angels spirits, his ministers flaming

  455. fires. He laid the foundation of the

  456. earth that it cannot be removed forever.

  457. So all these people that are worried

  458. about global warming and the earth

  459. suddenly, you know, unable to function,

  460. God says that will never happen. He's

  461. there. He covers the deep with the

  462. garment. The water stood above the

  463. mountains that thou rebuked. They fled.

  464. The voice of thy thunder has hastened

  465. away. They go up into the mountains.

  466. They go down unto the valleys and unto

  467. the places which you have found for

  468. them. And you've said abound and they

  469. may not pass over. They will turn out

  470. again to cover the earth. So there's the

  471. shoreline

  472. for the ocean.

  473. This whole psalm is about, you know, God

  474. just being inexhaustible.

  475. God was never going to grow weary. God's

  476. never going to make a mistake. God's

  477. never going to have a bad day. You can

  478. always count on him.

  479. his faithfulness is here for us to see,

  480. you know, so that we might we might be a

  481. little more faithful um to him.

  482. Look over in verse 24.

  483. Oh Lord, how manifold are thy works in

  484. wisdom has thou made them all. The earth

  485. is full of your riches.

  486. So we need not fret like the global

  487. people, the warm the global warming

  488. people. A lot of them are they can't

  489. sleep at night worrying about this.

  490. But we're sleeping at night because

  491. God's got it.

  492. Can't can't exhaust God. Can't do

  493. something that uh will interfere with

  494. him and his plans,

  495. you know. And that's the great thing

  496. about God is that, you know, some of his

  497. attributes, you know, they touch the

  498. other ones. It's where it gets hard, you

  499. know, for us to to describe who God is

  500. because he's just indescribable,

  501. you know, and it just everything the

  502. psalmist has to tell us how great God

  503. is.

  504. But if we want to know how great God is,

  505. here's where we find it. Turn over to

  506. Psalm 93.

  507. God's holy, God's faithful, God's

  508. loving,

  509. you know, and and again, we're just

  510. touching on these things. I'm going to

  511. try to go in a little more depth on some

  512. of these things at a later date,

  513. but we're trying to get our holy faith

  514. resting in a holy God.

  515. And

  516. Psalm 93 says that the Lord reignth

  517. He is clothed with majesty.

  518. The Lord is clothed with strength.

  519. Wherefore he girds himself. The world

  520. also is established and it can't be

  521. moved. Your throne is established of

  522. old. Thou art from everlasting.

  523. God God has no beginning. I can't

  524. explain that one to us.

  525. That's a faith thing. No beginning and

  526. no ending. And he's not like us. We have

  527. a beginning and we'll have an ending.

  528. But not him. He's everlasting.

  529. And the floods they lift up uh their

  530. voice. The floods lift up their waves.

  531. The Lord on high is mightier than the

  532. noise of many waters. Shay than the

  533. mighty waters of the sea.

  534. The testimonies are very sure. Holiness

  535. becometh thy house, O Lord, forever. So,

  536. we've got a holy faith in a holy God.

  537. Now, if you will turn to Psalm 47.

  538. Psalm 47.

  539. And the writers of the the you know the

  540. Old Testament prophets and and the

  541. psalmist you know they they just say who

  542. can stop God. I mean when they start

  543. talking about God who can stop God.

  544. No one can stop God.

  545. He can do whatever he wants whenever he

  546. wants and wherever he wants and however

  547. he wants.

  548. So our faith rests in this great

  549. sovereign inexhaustible God.

  550. In verse 47 or excuse me, verse one of

  551. chapter 47,

  552. clap your hands all you people. Shout

  553. unto God with the voice of triumph.

  554. For the Lord most high is all inspiring.

  555. He's a great king over all the earth. He

  556. shall subdue the people under us and the

  557. nations under our feet. Boy, that seems

  558. like a long ways off, doesn't it?

  559. But it shouldn't because you know God

  560. can't lie and what God says will come to

  561. pass. He shall choose our inheritance

  562. for us. The excellencies of Jacob whom

  563. he loveth.

  564. God is gone up with a shout. The Lord

  565. with the sound of the trumpet. Sing

  566. praises to God. Sing praises. Sing

  567. praises unto our king. Sing praises for

  568. God is the king of the earth. sing

  569. praises under the with all

  570. understanding. So all these guys that

  571. have an office right now temporary

  572. the day is coming when Christ is going

  573. to reign. God is going to reign over the

  574. earth and over us. He's going to reign

  575. over the nations.

  576. God sets upon the throne of his

  577. holiness. The prince of the people are

  578. gathered together. Even the people of

  579. the God of Abraham where the shields of

  580. the earth belong to God. He is greatly

  581. exalted.

  582. Turn over to Psalm 115.

  583. Psalm 115.

  584. Yeah. If you're having a you're having a

  585. hard time with God and his attributes,

  586. just get in the Psalms. So 30 days of

  587. reading these

  588. will help

  589. in Psalm 115:3

    Psalms 115:3

  590. God excuse me but our God is in the

  591. heavens. He has done whatsoever he is

  592. pleased.

  593. So there's the sovereignty of God. He

  594. doesn't have to get anyone. He didn't

  595. have to go to the UN to get permission

  596. to do anything.

  597. He doesn't have to go to Congress. He

  598. doesn't have to go to the Senate. He

  599. certainly doesn't have to come to us.

  600. But we can just rest in that and know

  601. that God, he's greater than any

  602. circumstances anywhere at any time.

  603. And not just one of us, but in all of

  604. us.

  605. You start thinking about these things,

  606. it's just incredible, isn't it?

  607. And now uh Psalm 103 verse 19.

    Psalms 103:19

  608. Psalm 103

  609. and verse

  610. 19.

  611. So the people that don't read the word

  612. of God, they think God doesn't exist.

  613. They think he's, you know, he's taking a

  614. vacation or maybe a siesta.

  615. Not. So

  616. God is here. He does whatsoever he

  617. wants, whenever he wants, however he

  618. wants.

  619. And here he says in uh verse 19,

  620. Psalm 103,

  621. the Lord has prepared his throne in the

  622. heavens, and his kingdom ruleth over

  623. all. This was written centuries before

  624. the book of Revelation.

  625. But now we have the book of revelation.

  626. We can see this in a greater way and

  627. have a greater understanding and a

  628. greater faith that you know in what God

  629. is doing and know that it's it's real.

  630. God is going to come back and take over

  631. this earth

  632. and uh you know what what would you do

  633. if somebody broke in your house? Would

  634. you leave get the keys?

  635. No.

  636. No, you wouldn't.

  637. And neither is God. He's not letting the

  638. devil have his world he created. He's

  639. not letting sin have this world he

  640. created. He still has the keys. Jesus

  641. has got them

  642. and he will come back and take over.

  643. Um, look at Psalm 135.

  644. Psalm 135

    Psalms 135:6

  645. verse 6.

  646. Psalm 135 and

  647. verse six. Whatsoever the Lord pleased

  648. that did he in heaven.

  649. But he can't do anything on earth. Oh,

  650. I'm a lion. He can

  651. whatever he pleases in heaven. whatever

  652. he pleases on earth

  653. in the seas and all of the deep places.

  654. You can't go anywhere.

  655. You can get all the little submarines

  656. you want. You're never going to go

  657. anywhere that God's not there.

  658. He's he he's everywhere. He's just an

  659. incredible God. He's an incredible

  660. being. He's not like us.

  661. Psalm 145

  662. verse one. Psalm 145

  663. verse one.

  664. So what do we do? You know this is we

  665. should worship God because of this. We

  666. should praise God because of this. He's

  667. not held back. He's not like us. He can

  668. do whatever he wants whenever he wants,

  669. however he wants.

  670. So we worship him and we praise him

  671. because of that.

  672. David says it here in this psalm verse

  673. one. I will extol thee, oh my God, oh

  674. king, and I will bless thy name forever

  675. and ever. Every day I will bless thee. I

  676. will praise thy name forever and ever.

  677. Great is the Lord greatly to be praised.

  678. His greatness is uncertain.

  679. So, we're creatures and he's the creator

  680. and he's just an incredible creator.

  681. We're going to we're going to study this

  682. book and try to understand what some of

  683. these things are.

  684. But this God who's created these things

  685. wants us to follow his son. You know,

  686. the the one of the members of the

  687. Trinity that he sent to this earth

  688. that John talked about back there in

  689. John chapter 5. We follow the son. When

    John 5 chapter mention

  690. we honor the son, we honor the father.

  691. When we follow the son, we're we're uh

  692. we're plugged into this great God

  693. who can do whatever he pleases.

  694. Turn to Psalm 119,

    Psalms 119:75

  695. verse 75.

  696. But you know, God things, you know,

  697. things balance God out,

  698. you know, not that he needs it. He's

  699. without error, but you know, that's what

  700. this verse here says. Psalm 119:75.

    Psalms 119:75

  701. What what balances out God's

  702. sovereignty,

  703. his plans, his decrees, his will?

  704. But know that whatever he decides to do,

  705. it's going to get done.

  706. And here we have in Psalm 119:75,

    Psalms 119:75

  707. I know, oh Lord, that your judgments are

  708. right and that thou in faithfulness has

  709. afflicted me. So God never fails. God

  710. never has a bad day. God never made a

  711. wrong decision. every circumstances

  712. um is under his control. So we can take

  713. great comfort in that and not let

  714. circumstances dictate to us. You know,

  715. why would I let circumstances dictate

  716. me when I can when I have a God like

  717. this, you know, who is willing, you

  718. know, as 1 Corinthians chapter 10 says,

    1 Corinthians 10 chapter mention

  719. he he won't put more on us than we can

  720. handle. you know, that that balances out

  721. God's sovereignty. That balances out,

  722. you know, these things. God just not

  723. going to put more. He's greater than us,

  724. but he's not going to put anything on us

  725. that we cannot handle.

  726. And that's what this verse says.

  727. You know, God is very faithful. God

  728. afflicts us in his faithfulness. And

  729. notice that it says here in verse 75, he

  730. says in faithfulness.

  731. So in faithfulness, God has afflicted

  732. me. So it's in his faithfulness.

  733. So he knows what he has said. He knows

  734. what he has promised.

  735. He remembers that we are dust.

  736. He remembers that we are in his son. He

  737. knows our condition.

  738. And we like Job.

  739. Job's friends, you know, they weren't

  740. much help, were they?

  741. But God was their answer. God was the

  742. solution. Turn to John chapter 3.

    John 3 chapter mention

  743. So, we've talked about God's

  744. inexhaustibleness.

  745. Um, we've talked about God's absolute

  746. sovereignty.

  747. And now we'll talk a minute here about

  748. God's

  749. God, the Holy Trinity.

  750. And we have a text here

  751. when we wonder how God's working. Okay,

  752. God's a God the Father, God the Son, God

  753. the Holy Spirit. How are they working,

  754. you know, in the church and in in our

  755. lives? And here's a good example of it

  756. here in John

  757. chapter

  758. I mentioned chapter 3, didn't I? So if

  759. you look in verse 12,

  760. I always get a kick out of this verse.

  761. He says, "I told you earthly things and

  762. you didn't believe me. How are you going

  763. to believe me if I tell you heavenly?"

  764. So you see, it takes faith to get off

  765. this earth.

  766. It takes faith to get elevated

  767. and to believe what Jesus says.

  768. And I'm he that come down from heaven,

  769. the son of man who was in heaven. So

  770. we don't know anything about eternity

  771. without

  772. Jesus helping us here. And he not only

  773. helped us here,

  774. he saved us.

  775. And here we have in chapter 4

  776. of John

  777. talking about the Holy Trinity.

  778. You remember what God said to his people

  779. in Deuteronomy

  780. in chapter 6 verse4. I know you're all

  781. familiar with that verse.

  782. Here, O Israel, the Lord thy God is one

  783. Lord.

  784. you know, so God isn't, you know, three

  785. different gods.

  786. He's one God, but three God, and they're

  787. all equal. So,

  788. you know, what the Bible says about

  789. these things is, you know, nobody could

  790. have invented this.

  791. You know, if there's a doctrine that

  792. proves that the word of God is the word

  793. of God, it's the trinity. I mean, they

  794. all do. You can't find a fault. But no

  795. one no one could come up with this

  796. one God yet three that are equal. And

  797. here we have the three of them in John

    John 4 chapter mention

  798. chapter 4. This is the um the woman at

  799. the well.

  800. And it's interesting that you know when

  801. Jesus spoke and when he taught

  802. people heard but they reacted

  803. differently.

  804. They heard the same thing but reacted

  805. different. Here we have a similar thing

  806. to that. They the woman at the well, she

  807. just got saved.

  808. You know, we could go over there and

  809. read all that. What an incredible

  810. account

  811. um that was. But here, you know,

  812. Jesus says in verse 26,

  813. I am speak unto thee. I am he. This is

  814. one of the I am. This is like

  815. remember when we when we first started

  816. God Moses said God who am I going to

  817. tell people you are

  818. and Jesus asked his apostles who do men

  819. say that I am but who do you say that I

  820. am and who we say Jesus is who we say

  821. the father is who we say the spirit is

  822. this is very important

  823. and and it should parallel and it should

  824. come from the word of God and we said,

  825. you know, we may not understand all

  826. this, but we're going to believe it.

  827. Here we have the three of them working

  828. together. He mentions the father up

  829. there in verse 23. Worship the father in

  830. spirit and in truth. For the father

  831. seeks such to worship him, God is a

  832. spirit. So now we have God the father,

  833. now we have God the son. And now or

  834. excuse me, God the spirit. And in verse

  835. 26, we have God son.

  836. So,

  837. um it's here in the word of God and it's

  838. just like this

  839. um for us to see and to believe.

  840. And you know, that's what God wants us

  841. to do is to know him, to know that, you

  842. know, he works this way.

  843. If you will look down in um

  844. in verse 31,

  845. you talking about Jesus speaking and

  846. people

  847. hearing the same thing but doing

  848. something different.

  849. It happens all the time.

  850. It happened all the time then too. Even

  851. to Jesus himself, he just said, "I he

  852. just

  853. He just talked about God the Father. He

  854. just talked about God the Spirit. He

  855. just talked about God the Son. And what

  856. did the disciples do? Their bellies were

  857. ground.

  858. They were hungry.

  859. They're like Mary. Remember Jesus

  860. said, you know, Mary was come about with

  861. the serving and not sitting at the feet

  862. of Jesus. Well, here we have a similar

  863. thing. And here it's the the apostles,

  864. you know, they should have been tuned in

  865. on this. They should have heard what he

  866. said.

  867. They should have heard what the woman

  868. said,

  869. you know. They should have had a worship

  870. moment here,

  871. but they didn't.

  872. And it says in verse 31, in the

  873. meantime, the disciples besought him,

  874. saying, "Master, eat." They were

  875. concerned about Jesus eating physical

  876. food.

  877. And this is the the the response that he

  878. gives them. I have food to eat that you

  879. know not of. Well, what is that? Well,

  880. what he just did? What he just did was

  881. went to a sinner uh with the gift of

  882. eternal life and she uh believed and she

  883. was born again.

  884. And Jesus is, you know, she's going back

  885. into the town. He's not done.

  886. The disciples want him to eat. You know,

  887. they're missing out on on this food that

  888. his father has given him. And he says,

  889. "My food is to do the will of him that

  890. sent me and to finish his work." So, we

  891. got to finish this work. What is this

  892. work? The work is evangelism.

  893. The work is the the free gift

  894. uh that Jesus has over there in verse 14

  895. verse 13. Whosoever drinks of this water

  896. will thirst again. Whosoever drinks of

  897. the water that I will give him shall

  898. never thirst. But the water that I will

  899. give him shall be in him a well of water

  900. springing up into eternal life. That's

  901. the gift as well up in verse 10. If you

  902. knew the gift of God and who it is that

  903. said unto thee, give me to drink, you

  904. would have asked thee and I would have

  905. give thee living water. So Jesus is

  906. still evangelizing.

  907. He's still trying to save souls. He's

  908. still, you know, laboring with the with

  909. the will that the father gave him there

  910. in verse 34. And the apostles, they got

  911. a little sidetracked.

  912. And then notice what happens when they

  913. get into Samaria then. And they went

  914. into that Samaran city and they believed

  915. on him. Verse 39.

  916. For the sayings of this woman, whoever

  917. testified, he told me all the things

  918. ever I did. He's God. So when the

  919. Samaritans were come out,

  920. they besought him that he would carry

  921. with them and abode there two days.

  922. And many more believe because of his

  923. word. So that's Jesus food that the

  924. father gave him to do his souls like the

  925. woman at the well here.

  926. And many more believe because of his own

  927. word and said unto the woman, "Now we

  928. believe not because of your sayings, for

  929. we have heard him ourselves and know

  930. this is indeed Christ the savior of the

  931. world."

  932. So here we see the whole trinity

  933. involved in bringing people to faith in

  934. Jesus, God the father, God the son, God

  935. the holy spirit and the word of God here

  936. uh the word what Jesus said there in

  937. verse 42.

  938. So these are the things that God wants

  939. his church and his people doing. Turn to

  940. John chapter 17.

    John 17 chapter mention

  941. And there's so many verses in the Gospel

  942. of John about the Trinity.

  943. So we have one God. I mean, who what

  944. else does he have to do to prove he is

  945. who he says he is? He has done what he

  946. says he has done. And even in our

  947. conversion, you know, I'm

  948. I'm here because of him. I'm here

  949. because of his word. I'm here because of

  950. the gospel of grace. I'm here because of

  951. the church. I'm here because of other

  952. believers that brought me the gospel.

  953. So, this part of this is is just so

  954. important when we look at the trinity

  955. trinity and understand, you know, what

  956. God the father wants, what God the son

  957. wants, and what God the holy spirit

  958. wants. And here we have in John 17

  959. and verse three,

  960. and this is life eternal, that they may

  961. know thee, the only true God. How many

  962. gods are there? Only one.

  963. One of the one of this book. And he says

  964. he's a trinity. God the Father, God the

  965. Son, God the Holy Spirit. Yet he says

  966. he's only one God. Deuteronomy chapter

    Deuteronomy 6 chapter mention

  967. 6.

  968. So our faith lays hold of these things

  969. and here we see

  970. the the only true God and Jesus Christ

  971. who this uh one God sent.

  972. So you know the only true God and and

  973. you know that's that's who he is. He all

  974. the things that we read back in the

  975. Psalms about how great God is in his

  976. creation, how great God is in his

  977. majesty, how great God is, you know, in

  978. in splendor and all those great things

  979. that the psalm says. God is not only

  980. great, he has done something great.

  981. And the thing that he has done that is

  982. so great is right here. He sent his son

  983. to the earth. He sent his son to the

  984. earth that he what what was in heaven we

  985. may know now

  986. when we die we're not ignorant. We're

  987. not we're not oblivious

  988. uh to what's going on. We know God we

  989. get to heaven. God the father, God the

  990. son, and God the holy spirit are going

  991. to be there

  992. and having accomplished these great

  993. things that he he tells us about here.

  994. And then I like what he says at the end

  995. of verse 21.

  996. This sort of sums it up.

  997. You know, why why did why why the

  998. incarnation? Why the Old Testament? Why

  999. all this prophecy,

1000. you know, years and years and years?

1001. Why all this prophecy? Well,

1002. he says here that we might know God.

1003. and knowing God. The prophets failed to

1004. get him known, didn't they? They did

1005. their best. But when Jesus got here, he

1006. made himself known to his apostle to

  1007. these 12 men

1008. who come back and wrote this and said

1009. there's only one true God.

1010. And then Jesus starts talking about this

1011. glory. And then he says at the end of

1012. verse 21, he said that the world

1013. may believe that thou has sent me. Jesus

1014. said that's the whole reason I came. You

1015. want me to sum it up? Why did I spend 33

1016. years on the earth? That the world may

1017. know that God the Father sent him.

1018. So you know other places that we could

  1019. turn

1020. 1 Timothy 3:15 talks about the mystery

    1 Timothy 3:15

1021. of godliness. We don't have to turn

1022. there but anything outside the

1023. scriptures is you know is wrong.

1024. We don't get any ideas from the anywhere

1025. else. We get all our understanding and

1026. all of our truth. And when somebody

1027. denies what God says he is that's a

  1028. terrible thing

1029. you know. So, we're to believe

1030. God is who he says he is. And remember,

  1031. um, and we had

1032. the the witnesses, we had when Jesus was

1033. baptized in in Mark, excuse me, in

1034. Matthew, you know, God the Father said,

1035. "This is my beloved son. Hear ye him."

  1036. Remember

1037. uh John says in first John he talks

  1038. about the three witnesses

1039. you know that that that we have. So now

1040. we have the witness of the word of God.

1041. This is the testimony. That's what the

1042. Bible says the word of God is. It's the

  1043. testimony of Jesus Christ

1044. the son of God who come he come to the

1045. earth. to come to this world that

1046. everybody might may believe that God the

  1047. Father sent him.

1048. Now turn back to chapter 14.

1049. And who introduces the spirit to us?

1050. Jesus does right here. Not saying that

1051. Holy Spirit didn't exist until here. We

1052. can talk about that later.

  1053. But here's where,

1054. you know, in Acts and Pentecost where

1055. the spirit was poured out. I mean,

1056. that's what God said he was going to do

1057. once his son came. Once this great plan

1058. of salvation was ours, God said he was

1059. going to pour out his spirit and indwell

  1060. us.

1061. And we're worshiping him down here. And

1062. here in John chapter 14 verse 20

    John 14:20

1063. at the day you shall know

1064. that I am in the father ye in me and I

  1065. in you.

  1066. That's that's incredible.

1067. So there are there are things about God

  1068. that he can share

1069. you know his love his you know his his

1070. grace his mercy and all those you know

1071. we should be loving like God is. We

1072. should be gracious like God is. We

1073. should be caring like God is. We should

1074. be kind like God is. We should be holy

1075. like God is. We're falling short on that

  1076. one. Nevertheless,

1077. th those are the things that are ours

1078. from God the Father, God the Son, and

1079. God the Holy Spirit. You know, the word

1080. Trinity is not in the Bible,

1081. and that's not where it came from

1082. anyway. It came from the Latin word that

  1083. means uh threeness.

1084. But uh the trinity means unity.

1085. So these three are one. So that this is

1086. where we get our doctrine from. We get

1087. this from from God's word. And you know

1088. the trinity is like creation. God

1089. doesn't you know he doesn't get out the

1090. buns and burners and the slide rules and

1091. the and the and the depth charts to help

1092. us understand, you know, what he did. He

1093. just boom, there it is. Believe it or

  1094. not.

1095. Same thing with the Trinity.

1096. So, we need a biblical view

1097. of the Trinity. This is one place and

1098. one area where a lot of people go off is

1099. understanding the Holy Trinity. And

1100. hopefully as we go through this, the

1101. word of God is going to help us um with

1102. these things. Let's pray. Father, we

  1103. come to you

1104. and we thank you for your word. You are

1105. who you say you are.

1106. the mighty God that we saw in the

1107. Psalms. The mighty God who is above

  1108. everyone and everything,

1109. who does as he pleases.

1110. And Father, we thank you that it it

1111. pleased you to give us your kingdom. It

1112. pleased you to come to earth and die for

1113. our sins. It pleased you to send God the

1114. Son to the earth. It's pleased you to

1115. give us your Holy Spirit.

1116. And we thank you for these things. Help

1117. us to grow in grace and in the knowledge

1118. of what a great God you are. Help us to

1119. trust you in everything. And we pray in

  1120. Jesus name.

1121. Oh Lord, as we go from this place

1122. loving you more, trusting you more.

1123. May the power of your love and the light

1124. of your word shine to a sin darkened

1125. world as we go from this place.
