doctrines of the word of God.

We've looked at the word of God itself.

Last week we looked at the purposes of

the word of God.

This week we're going to

open your Bibles for the book of Jude.

Going to make a reference here.

But if you've been with us, you know the

importance of God's word, the importance

of hearing from God.

The Bible is the word of God. It's

without error. It's our final authority.

It's sufficient.

All those wonderful things that we've

been looking at.

So, our approach to God and his word is

that God is who he says he is.

Um, I want to pick up a word here this

morning in the book of Jude.

Today, we're going to look at a holy

faith and a holy trinity.

You want a title for the message. And

here we have that holy faith and one of

the members of the trinity

and the second member of the trinity and

the third member of the trinity talking

about a most holy faith here. So that's

our approach to God and to his word. God

is holy. God is just and God is perfect.

God is who he says he is. God is

wonderful.

A loving, gracious, kind God. And he he

reveals himself to us and he wants us to

have a holy faith in in this holy

trinity

as he says here in verse 20. But you

beloved build up yourselves on your most

holy faith

praying in the Holy Spirit. And here's

some defensive moves for us. Keep

yourselves in the love of God looking

for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ

unto

eternal life.

So we begin this morning to talking

about this holy faith and a holy God.

And how can we not uh go to the book of

Hebrews in chapter 11 when we talk about

faith.

Hebrews chapter 11. You know God is who

Hebrews 11 · chapter mention

he says he is. He's this, you know, the

almighty

uh the supreme ruler of the universe.

We're going to look at some of those

verses here in a little bit. And you

know, go God is powerful, isn't he? His

word is powerful. He is powerful.

And we want to see him as he is in the

scripture, in the word of God. That's so

important. And here in Hebrews chap 11

and verse 6,

he says, "Without faith, it is

impossible to please him. For he that

comes to God must believe that he is and

a rewarder of them that diligently seek

him. So it's so important for us to to

uh take our most holy faith to the word

of God and understand, you know, these

great attributes of God. God uh he's

he's who he says he is. He's uh very

powerful and it's impossible to please

God without faith.

You guys are familiar with this. Well,

um, if you will look back over in

Hebrews 11 and verse one, here we have

that faith verse. Faith is the substance

of things hoped for, the evidence of

things not seen. So, you know, God has

the ability to reveal himself to us in

his word and then this faith that, you

know, he's given to us and called us to.

And uh you know God is and his word are

are are perfect. You know we saw that

the last couple weeks and you know we

have the the the one of the only perfect

things on the earth is the word of God.

And we've stressed that here the last

couple weeks. And the reason it's

perfect is because God's perfect and he

is the one that gave it to us. So, you

know, whether it touches on history or

whether it touches on the present or or

it talks about the future and prophecy,

whatever area God's word covers is uh

it's it's right. It's accurate. And you

know, we have a very powerful book here

that helps us uh in this. And we're

seeing that the, you know, the purpose

of God's word is for us to have a most

holy faith uh in this holy trinity that

God is

uh in his word. And

going to dive into that here a little

bit this morning.

So, you know, it's sort of where

it's sort of where Moses began with God,

right?

you know, and it's where the disciples

began with Jesus.

Remember Moses

um you know, he Moses had a difficult

time

understanding that God wanted to use

him,

you know, and and he said, "Who am I

going to tell the people you are?" And

then you know the verse God said, "He's

the great I am." So our understanding of

God is just that's like the very first

thing

uh in serving God and it helped Moses

and and the disciples as well remember

them. Jesus said who do the men say that

I am there in Matthew remember that

verse and and then uh you know he he

zeroed in to them and he said but who do

you say that I am?

So our faith responds to God and to his

word. That's the intent,

you know, that for us to have a most

holy faith in this uh holy God. And as

it says here in Hebrews, it's the

evidence of things, you know, not seen,

knowing that, you know, God cannot lie.

We have that verse in Titus. So, you

know, trust is always the answer

is trust God in everything and and

that's that was the uh the struggle that

the disciples had. You know, they wanted

to trust themselves and not trust the

Lord. That's where they got in trouble.

That Moses as well, he he wanted to

trust in himself but not in the Lord.

And that's where he got in trouble. And

that's where we get in trouble

is we, you know, we don't trust the Lord

or we trust in ourselves. I reference

last week to what Mary said at the the

uh marriage feast in Canaan, the wedding

in Canaan

about Jesus. She said, "Whatever he

says, do it." You know, so it's, you

know, God's made it very simple for us.

If it's in here, do it. If it says the

word of God says it, then faith should

uh grab a hold of it uh and move on, not

let our lives be dominated by

circumstances or problems, if you will,

or or issues of life. And that usually

what separates,

you know, Christians from, you know,

real Christians. I guess some people

think they're Christians and, you know,

they can't go through a trial, they

can't go through a difficulty.

And you know the Bible says that we are

going to go through difficulties and

that's what faith is for faith in God

not faith in ourselves and faith to

trust him

as the book of Hebrews says here as we

looked at in chapter uh 11

turn over to John chapter 5.

John 5 · chapter mention

So the apostles and the disciples, they

had to learn this, you know, not to

trust in themselves, but to trust in the

Lord. And Jesus said, "Who do you say I

am?" Okay, you think I'm God, but you're

not doing what I say. You know, that was

a that was a difficulty for Jesus to

see, you know, the people that would,

you know, they would, you know,

outwardly praise him, outwardly

demonstrate faith or outwardly, you

know, the crowds, how many crowds did

that? you know how many crowds said you

know we're going to follow him and then

they didn't follow him

and Jesus is not looking for crowds he's

looking for individuals

and that's what we have throughout the

word of God even the even the apostles

you know they were each one of them had

their own individual relationship

with Jesus

and here in John chapter 5

John 5 · chapter mention

pick it up in verse 19 where Jesus says

verily verily I say unto you The son can

do nothing of himself, but what he sees

the father do and whatever things uh he

doeth these also doeth the son in the

same manner. So, you know, Jesus was he

spent time with the apostles saying

saying these things that well I'm

everything I'm doing is what my father

wants done you know not just once a day

or not just once a week or not you know

for a week or two or for a month or two

no it's forever and that's what Jesus

says for the father loveth the son and

he shows him all things that he himself

doeth he will show him greater works

than these

that you may marvel. For as a father

raised up the dead and giveth life to

them, even so the son giveth life to

whomsoever he wills. So Jesus is saying,

you're following me. You're following

the father. You're listening to me.

You're listening to the father. God the

father and God the son are are in 100%

agreement

on all of these things.

So Jesus is looking for individuals to

follow him.

you know, out of the crowd and out of

the world and out of the, you know,

everything that's going on out there. He

wants he wants people to come to him and

and he tells us how to do it.

For all men should honor the Son even as

they honor the father. So, you know, God

God the Father deserves our holy faith

and and God the Son deserves our holy

faith. And Jesus says here for us to do

that. Just you you want to know the

Father, then follow me.

And it was a hard hard thing for them,

some of them.

And he says in verse 23, he had he that

honors not the son honors not the father

who has sent him. So it's a it's a sin

not to follow Jesus.

It's a sin against God. It's a sin

against the father for us not to follow

Jesus.

So when we do follow Jesus, this is the

right thing. We attach our faith to him

and we follow him.

And then he says in verse 24, "Verily,

verily, I say unto you, he that hears my

word and believes on him that sent me

has everlasting life and will not come

into judgment but has passed from death

into life." There's the new birth. So,

you know, God gives us these things, you

know, that we as individuals can be born

again. We as individuals can follow uh

the Lord Jesus. And you know, he he he

brought it up to them, you know, when

they got in trouble. They were, you

know, listening to themselves or they

were listening to the crowd or they were

listening to the Pharisees. They were

they were doing everything but listening

to Jesus.

And that was a lesson they had to learn.

That's a lesson that we have to learn as

well. Whatever he says, do it and attach

our most holy faith um to him. And then

he, you know, he talks about abiding.

We're going to see that in a minute when

we get back in some of these verses here

in John. But but there's that abiding

that he wants, you know, and and we

abide with Christ. How? We abide with

him in his word. We abide with him in

prayer. We abide with him in in a lot of

ways, but you know, there's nobody else

that deserves,

you know, this from us. I mean, he's

God, you know, and that's what the first

commandment was to put the Lord your God

ahead of everything and before

everything, you know, and, you know,

don't be like the devil. Don't be like,

you know, those that just hear and and

don't do. He warns us of those things.

We want to we as well, you know, we want

to be like the Bereans.

We want to study the word of God. We

want to spend time in the word of God.

Not only to know the truth, but to do

the truth and to know this is what he

said for us to do. God the father says,

"Follow God the son." You honor him. You

honor me by honoring him. And then, you

know, as Romans says, faith comes by

hearing and hearing by the word of God

or, you know, by the truth and the sound

doctrine that the word of God has for

us.

You know, that's that's what our that's

what our theology is. It's it's the

revelation of God, who who he is and

what he's done, that we might have a

reverence and an awe and a respect and a

worship for God the Son, for God the

Father, and for the Holy Spirit, the

whole Trinity's

involved in these things.

So, as we, you know, get into this

series, we're going to be able to to

look at, you know, how how many

different attributes does God have?

That's a pretty long list,

you know, and I'm not saying we're going

to go through each one of them and

exhaustively exhaust every single one of

these attributes, but we need to see,

you know, that we can put our faith in

God. God set this up this way. You know,

this is how we follow. This is how we uh

we fellowship

with him. And you know the world,

we want to listen to God above the

world. We want to listen to God above um

religion. We want to listen to God above

the government, you know, and and the

and the Bible says for us to obey the

government, but above them is him. And

above, you know, what they say is what

God says. And knowing God is is

faith-based.

You know, that's that's how Moses got to

know God. That's how the disciples, the

apostles got to know Jesus. This this is

faithbased.

Um knowing God is faith-based. And it's

not IQ based. you know, people

who naturally, you know, smart and

sharp. And I'm glad we have people that

are smart and sharp, but you don't need

that to know God. You know, we know God

through faith. Not saying we have to

play dumb or anything like that, but

following Jesus is faith-based, not IQ

based. And that's what the word of God

says. So, you know, we we can't list all

the great things of God, but one of them

is, you know, God is just he he is just

inexhaustible.

He he's infinite.

He's um what what Paul says over in

Ephesians, turn over there.

Ephesians chapter 4.

Ephesians 4 · chapter mention

And um verse 20,

God is infinite.

Um he is inexhaustible. We cannot

exhaust God

in any way. We can't exhaust his

resources. We can't exhaust his

attributes. We can't exalt God in any

way. We can't touch him with that. He's

above that and beyond that. And that's

what Paul says here in chapter

4.

Now I lost my verse.

Oh 320, not 420. Chapter makes a

difference then.

You guys are familiar with this one of

Paul's prayers. Ephesians has a lot of

prayers, but you know, he Paul knows who

Paul knows who God is.

You know, that's what glory is is when

we know God's glory. And we can say God,

you're glorious. You you know, you

cannot change. You are inexhaustible.

You you cannot we cannot wear you. We

cannot wear you out. We cannot wear you

down.

And that encourages us, doesn't it? And

Paul says that here now unto him who is

able to do exceedingly abundantly above

all that we ask or think. So there God,

he's just infinite

according to the power that works in us.

Unto him be the glory in the church

throughout all the ages world without

end. So you know, God, he's just he's

just bountiful. He's He's got

everything. Wisdom, mercy, grace. He's

got all these wonderful resources,

love, all those great things that God

has and he possesses. And we can't we

can't weary him. Can't wear him down.

And you know, he cannot be depleted in

any way. And that's what this verse says

here. Exceedingly abundant above all

that we ask or think. He put both of

them in there.

So God's above all all that we can ask

and all that we can think according to

the great power that works in us.

So, you know, let's ought to assure us

every day when we get up,

you know, I I can well, I can mess up

today or I I didn't make the best plans

for the day or, you know, or I had a

problem, but never God. Never God. Never

can we point to God and say, you know,

he's he's had a bad day. God had an off

day. It's never happened. Never will.

Turn over to Psalm 104.

verse one.

Psalm 104 verse one.

Is is there anything that's impossible

with God?

Well, there are a couple things that are

impossible with God. He can't sin.

He can't be tempted.

So, there are some things that God can't

do.

But here,

nothing is impossible with God.

He can make an axe float. He can make a

donkey talk.

God uh he's not held back by things like

we are.

And we have quite a few psalms here that

talk about this great attribute of God

that we just can't wear him down. Bless

the Lord, oh my soul.

Oh Lord, my God, thou art very great.

Thou art clothed with honor and majesty.

We need to know that about God. you

know, he's he's more royal. He's more

than than anybody on this planet.

Remember the the Queen of England? You

know, people had to do certain things

when they were in her presence

because she was the queen.

Well, there's somebody greater than the

queen, and that's God.

He covers herself with the light, with

as with the garment. He stretches out

the heavens like a curtain. who lays the

beams of his chambers and the waters. He

makes the clouds, his chariot. He walks

upon the wings of the wind. He makes his

angels spirits, his ministers flaming

fires. He laid the foundation of the

earth that it cannot be removed forever.

So all these people that are worried

about global warming and the earth

suddenly, you know, unable to function,

God says that will never happen. He's

there. He covers the deep with the

garment. The water stood above the

mountains that thou rebuked. They fled.

The voice of thy thunder has hastened

away. They go up into the mountains.

They go down unto the valleys and unto

the places which you have found for

them. And you've said abound and they

may not pass over. They will turn out

again to cover the earth. So there's the

shoreline

for the ocean.

This whole psalm is about, you know, God

just being inexhaustible.

God was never going to grow weary. God's

never going to make a mistake. God's

never going to have a bad day. You can

always count on him.

his faithfulness is here for us to see,

you know, so that we might we might be a

little more faithful um to him.

Look over in verse 24.

Oh Lord, how manifold are thy works in

wisdom has thou made them all. The earth

is full of your riches.

So we need not fret like the global

people, the warm the global warming

people. A lot of them are they can't

sleep at night worrying about this.

But we're sleeping at night because

God's got it.

Can't can't exhaust God. Can't do

something that uh will interfere with

him and his plans,

you know. And that's the great thing

about God is that, you know, some of his

attributes, you know, they touch the

other ones. It's where it gets hard, you

know, for us to to describe who God is

because he's just indescribable,

you know, and it just everything the

psalmist has to tell us how great God

is.

But if we want to know how great God is,

here's where we find it. Turn over to

Psalm 93.

God's holy, God's faithful, God's

loving,

you know, and and again, we're just

touching on these things. I'm going to

try to go in a little more depth on some

of these things at a later date,

but we're trying to get our holy faith

resting in a holy God.

And

Psalm 93 says that the Lord reignth

He is clothed with majesty.

The Lord is clothed with strength.

Wherefore he girds himself. The world

also is established and it can't be

moved. Your throne is established of

old. Thou art from everlasting.

God God has no beginning. I can't

explain that one to us.

That's a faith thing. No beginning and

no ending. And he's not like us. We have

a beginning and we'll have an ending.

But not him. He's everlasting.

And the floods they lift up uh their

voice. The floods lift up their waves.

The Lord on high is mightier than the

noise of many waters. Shay than the

mighty waters of the sea.

The testimonies are very sure. Holiness

becometh thy house, O Lord, forever. So,

we've got a holy faith in a holy God.

Now, if you will turn to Psalm 47.

Psalm 47.

And the writers of the the you know the

Old Testament prophets and and the

psalmist you know they they just say who

can stop God. I mean when they start

talking about God who can stop God.

No one can stop God.

He can do whatever he wants whenever he

wants and wherever he wants and however

he wants.

So our faith rests in this great

sovereign inexhaustible God.

In verse 47 or excuse me, verse one of

chapter 47,

clap your hands all you people. Shout

unto God with the voice of triumph.

For the Lord most high is all inspiring.

He's a great king over all the earth. He

shall subdue the people under us and the

nations under our feet. Boy, that seems

like a long ways off, doesn't it?

But it shouldn't because you know God

can't lie and what God says will come to

pass. He shall choose our inheritance

for us. The excellencies of Jacob whom

he loveth.

God is gone up with a shout. The Lord

with the sound of the trumpet. Sing

praises to God. Sing praises. Sing

praises unto our king. Sing praises for

God is the king of the earth. sing

praises under the with all

understanding. So all these guys that

have an office right now temporary

the day is coming when Christ is going

to reign. God is going to reign over the

earth and over us. He's going to reign

over the nations.

God sets upon the throne of his

holiness. The prince of the people are

gathered together. Even the people of

the God of Abraham where the shields of

the earth belong to God. He is greatly

exalted.

Turn over to Psalm 115.

Psalm 115.

Yeah. If you're having a you're having a

hard time with God and his attributes,

just get in the Psalms. So 30 days of

reading these

will help

in Psalm 115:3

Psalms 115:3

God excuse me but our God is in the

heavens. He has done whatsoever he is

pleased.

So there's the sovereignty of God. He

doesn't have to get anyone. He didn't

have to go to the UN to get permission

to do anything.

He doesn't have to go to Congress. He

doesn't have to go to the Senate. He

certainly doesn't have to come to us.

But we can just rest in that and know

that God, he's greater than any

circumstances anywhere at any time.

And not just one of us, but in all of

us.

You start thinking about these things,

it's just incredible, isn't it?

And now uh Psalm 103 verse 19.

and verse

19.

So the people that don't read the word

of God, they think God doesn't exist.

They think he's, you know, he's taking a

vacation or maybe a siesta.

Not. So

God is here. He does whatsoever he

wants, whenever he wants, however he

wants.

And here he says in uh verse 19,

Psalm 103,

the Lord has prepared his throne in the

heavens, and his kingdom ruleth over

all. This was written centuries before

the book of Revelation.

But now we have the book of revelation.

We can see this in a greater way and

have a greater understanding and a

greater faith that you know in what God

is doing and know that it's it's real.

God is going to come back and take over

this earth

and uh you know what what would you do

if somebody broke in your house? Would

you leave get the keys?

No.

No, you wouldn't.

And neither is God. He's not letting the

devil have his world he created. He's

not letting sin have this world he

created. He still has the keys. Jesus

has got them

and he will come back and take over.

Um, look at Psalm 135.

Psalms 135:6

verse 6.

Psalm 135 and

verse six. Whatsoever the Lord pleased

that did he in heaven.

But he can't do anything on earth. Oh,

I'm a lion. He can

whatever he pleases in heaven. whatever

he pleases on earth

in the seas and all of the deep places.

You can't go anywhere.

You can get all the little submarines

you want. You're never going to go

anywhere that God's not there.

He's he he's everywhere. He's just an

incredible God. He's an incredible

being. He's not like us.

Psalm 145

verse one. Psalm 145

verse one.

So what do we do? You know this is we

should worship God because of this. We

should praise God because of this. He's

not held back. He's not like us. He can

do whatever he wants whenever he wants,

however he wants.

So we worship him and we praise him

because of that.

David says it here in this psalm verse

one. I will extol thee, oh my God, oh

king, and I will bless thy name forever

and ever. Every day I will bless thee. I

will praise thy name forever and ever.

Great is the Lord greatly to be praised.

His greatness is uncertain.

So, we're creatures and he's the creator

and he's just an incredible creator.

We're going to we're going to study this

book and try to understand what some of

these things are.

But this God who's created these things

wants us to follow his son. You know,

the the one of the members of the

Trinity that he sent to this earth

that John talked about back there in

John chapter 5. We follow the son. When

John 5 · chapter mention

we honor the son, we honor the father.

When we follow the son, we're we're uh

we're plugged into this great God

who can do whatever he pleases.

Turn to Psalm 119,

Psalms 119:75

verse 75.

But you know, God things, you know,

things balance God out,

you know, not that he needs it. He's

without error, but you know, that's what

this verse here says. Psalm 119:75.

Psalms 119:75

What what balances out God's

sovereignty,

his plans, his decrees, his will?

But know that whatever he decides to do,

it's going to get done.

And here we have in Psalm 119:75,

I know, oh Lord, that your judgments are

right and that thou in faithfulness has

afflicted me. So God never fails. God

never has a bad day. God never made a

wrong decision. every circumstances

um is under his control. So we can take

great comfort in that and not let

circumstances dictate to us. You know,

why would I let circumstances dictate

me when I can when I have a God like

this, you know, who is willing, you

know, as 1 Corinthians chapter 10 says,

he he won't put more on us than we can

handle. you know, that that balances out

God's sovereignty. That balances out,

you know, these things. God just not

going to put more. He's greater than us,

but he's not going to put anything on us

that we cannot handle.

And that's what this verse says.

You know, God is very faithful. God

afflicts us in his faithfulness. And

notice that it says here in verse 75, he

says in faithfulness.

So in faithfulness, God has afflicted

me. So it's in his faithfulness.

So he knows what he has said. He knows

what he has promised.

He remembers that we are dust.

He remembers that we are in his son. He

knows our condition.

And we like Job.

Job's friends, you know, they weren't

much help, were they?

But God was their answer. God was the

solution. Turn to John chapter 3.

So, we've talked about God's

inexhaustibleness.

Um, we've talked about God's absolute

sovereignty.

And now we'll talk a minute here about

God's

God, the Holy Trinity.

And we have a text here

when we wonder how God's working. Okay,

God's a God the Father, God the Son, God

the Holy Spirit. How are they working,

you know, in the church and in in our

lives? And here's a good example of it

here in John

chapter

I mentioned chapter 3, didn't I? So if

you look in verse 12,

I always get a kick out of this verse.

He says, "I told you earthly things and

you didn't believe me. How are you going

to believe me if I tell you heavenly?"

So you see, it takes faith to get off

this earth.

It takes faith to get elevated

and to believe what Jesus says.

And I'm he that come down from heaven,

the son of man who was in heaven. So

we don't know anything about eternity

without

Jesus helping us here. And he not only

helped us here,

he saved us.

And here we have in chapter 4

of John

talking about the Holy Trinity.

You remember what God said to his people

in Deuteronomy

in chapter 6 verse4. I know you're all

familiar with that verse.

Here, O Israel, the Lord thy God is one

Lord.

you know, so God isn't, you know, three

different gods.

He's one God, but three God, and they're

all equal. So,

you know, what the Bible says about

these things is, you know, nobody could

have invented this.

You know, if there's a doctrine that

proves that the word of God is the word

of God, it's the trinity. I mean, they

all do. You can't find a fault. But no

one no one could come up with this

one God yet three that are equal. And

here we have the three of them in John

John 4 · chapter mention

chapter 4. This is the um the woman at

the well.

And it's interesting that you know when

Jesus spoke and when he taught

people heard but they reacted

differently.

They heard the same thing but reacted

different. Here we have a similar thing

to that. They the woman at the well, she

just got saved.

You know, we could go over there and

read all that. What an incredible

account

um that was. But here, you know,

Jesus says in verse 26,

I am speak unto thee. I am he. This is

one of the I am. This is like

remember when we when we first started

God Moses said God who am I going to

tell people you are

and Jesus asked his apostles who do men

say that I am but who do you say that I

am and who we say Jesus is who we say

the father is who we say the spirit is

this is very important

and and it should parallel and it should

come from the word of God and we said,

you know, we may not understand all

this, but we're going to believe it.

Here we have the three of them working

together. He mentions the father up

there in verse 23. Worship the father in

spirit and in truth. For the father

seeks such to worship him, God is a

spirit. So now we have God the father,

now we have God the son. And now or

excuse me, God the spirit. And in verse

26, we have God son.

So,

um it's here in the word of God and it's

just like this

um for us to see and to believe.

And you know, that's what God wants us

to do is to know him, to know that, you

know, he works this way.

If you will look down in um

in verse 31,

you talking about Jesus speaking and

people

hearing the same thing but doing

something different.

It happens all the time.

It happened all the time then too. Even

to Jesus himself, he just said, "I he

just

He just talked about God the Father. He

just talked about God the Spirit. He

just talked about God the Son. And what

did the disciples do? Their bellies were

ground.

They were hungry.

They're like Mary. Remember Jesus

said, you know, Mary was come about with

the serving and not sitting at the feet

of Jesus. Well, here we have a similar

thing. And here it's the the apostles,

you know, they should have been tuned in

on this. They should have heard what he

said.

They should have heard what the woman

said,

you know. They should have had a worship

moment here,

but they didn't.

And it says in verse 31, in the

meantime, the disciples besought him,

saying, "Master, eat." They were

concerned about Jesus eating physical

food.

And this is the the the response that he

gives them. I have food to eat that you

know not of. Well, what is that? Well,

what he just did? What he just did was

went to a sinner uh with the gift of

eternal life and she uh believed and she

was born again.

And Jesus is, you know, she's going back

into the town. He's not done.

The disciples want him to eat. You know,

they're missing out on on this food that

his father has given him. And he says,

"My food is to do the will of him that

sent me and to finish his work." So, we

got to finish this work. What is this

work? The work is evangelism.

The work is the the free gift

uh that Jesus has over there in verse 14

verse 13. Whosoever drinks of this water

will thirst again. Whosoever drinks of

the water that I will give him shall

never thirst. But the water that I will

give him shall be in him a well of water

springing up into eternal life. That's

the gift as well up in verse 10. If you

knew the gift of God and who it is that

said unto thee, give me to drink, you

would have asked thee and I would have

give thee living water. So Jesus is

still evangelizing.

He's still trying to save souls. He's

still, you know, laboring with the with

the will that the father gave him there

in verse 34. And the apostles, they got

a little sidetracked.

And then notice what happens when they

get into Samaria then. And they went

into that Samaran city and they believed

on him. Verse 39.

For the sayings of this woman, whoever

testified, he told me all the things

ever I did. He's God. So when the

Samaritans were come out,

they besought him that he would carry

with them and abode there two days.

And many more believe because of his

word. So that's Jesus food that the

father gave him to do his souls like the

woman at the well here.

And many more believe because of his own

word and said unto the woman, "Now we

believe not because of your sayings, for

we have heard him ourselves and know

this is indeed Christ the savior of the

world."

So here we see the whole trinity

involved in bringing people to faith in

Jesus, God the father, God the son, God

the holy spirit and the word of God here

uh the word what Jesus said there in

verse 42.

So these are the things that God wants

his church and his people doing. Turn to

John chapter 17.

And there's so many verses in the Gospel

of John about the Trinity.

So we have one God. I mean, who what

else does he have to do to prove he is

who he says he is? He has done what he

says he has done. And even in our

conversion, you know, I'm

I'm here because of him. I'm here

because of his word. I'm here because of

the gospel of grace. I'm here because of

the church. I'm here because of other

believers that brought me the gospel.

So, this part of this is is just so

important when we look at the trinity

trinity and understand, you know, what

God the father wants, what God the son

wants, and what God the holy spirit

wants. And here we have in John 17

and verse three,

and this is life eternal, that they may

know thee, the only true God. How many

gods are there? Only one.

One of the one of this book. And he says

he's a trinity. God the Father, God the

Son, God the Holy Spirit. Yet he says

he's only one God. Deuteronomy chapter

So our faith lays hold of these things

and here we see

the the only true God and Jesus Christ

who this uh one God sent.

So you know the only true God and and

you know that's that's who he is. He all

the things that we read back in the

Psalms about how great God is in his

creation, how great God is in his

majesty, how great God is, you know, in

in splendor and all those great things

that the psalm says. God is not only

great, he has done something great.

And the thing that he has done that is

so great is right here. He sent his son

to the earth. He sent his son to the

earth that he what what was in heaven we

may know now

when we die we're not ignorant. We're

not we're not oblivious

uh to what's going on. We know God we

get to heaven. God the father, God the

son, and God the holy spirit are going

to be there

and having accomplished these great

things that he he tells us about here.

And then I like what he says at the end

of verse 21.

This sort of sums it up.

You know, why why did why why the

incarnation? Why the Old Testament? Why

all this prophecy,

you know, years and years and years?

Why all this prophecy? Well,

he says here that we might know God.

and knowing God. The prophets failed to

get him known, didn't they? They did

their best. But when Jesus got here, he

made himself known to his apostle to

these 12 men

who come back and wrote this and said

there's only one true God.

And then Jesus starts talking about this

glory. And then he says at the end of

verse 21, he said that the world

may believe that thou has sent me. Jesus

said that's the whole reason I came. You

want me to sum it up? Why did I spend 33

years on the earth? That the world may

know that God the Father sent him.

So you know other places that we could

turn

1 Timothy 3:15 talks about the mystery

of godliness. We don't have to turn

there but anything outside the

scriptures is you know is wrong.

We don't get any ideas from the anywhere

else. We get all our understanding and

all of our truth. And when somebody

denies what God says he is that's a

terrible thing

you know. So, we're to believe

God is who he says he is. And remember,

um, and we had

the the witnesses, we had when Jesus was

baptized in in Mark, excuse me, in

Matthew, you know, God the Father said,

"This is my beloved son. Hear ye him."

Remember

uh John says in first John he talks

about the three witnesses

you know that that that we have. So now

we have the witness of the word of God.

This is the testimony. That's what the

Bible says the word of God is. It's the

testimony of Jesus Christ

the son of God who come he come to the

earth. to come to this world that

everybody might may believe that God the

Father sent him.

Now turn back to chapter 14.

And who introduces the spirit to us?

Jesus does right here. Not saying that

Holy Spirit didn't exist until here. We

can talk about that later.

But here's where,

you know, in Acts and Pentecost where

the spirit was poured out. I mean,

that's what God said he was going to do

once his son came. Once this great plan

of salvation was ours, God said he was

going to pour out his spirit and indwell

us.

And we're worshiping him down here. And

here in John chapter 14 verse 20

John 14:20

at the day you shall know

that I am in the father ye in me and I

in you.

That's that's incredible.

So there are there are things about God

that he can share

you know his love his you know his his

grace his mercy and all those you know

we should be loving like God is. We

should be gracious like God is. We

should be caring like God is. We should

be kind like God is. We should be holy

like God is. We're falling short on that

one. Nevertheless,

th those are the things that are ours

from God the Father, God the Son, and

God the Holy Spirit. You know, the word

Trinity is not in the Bible,

and that's not where it came from

anyway. It came from the Latin word that

means uh threeness.

But uh the trinity means unity.

So these three are one. So that this is

where we get our doctrine from. We get

this from from God's word. And you know

the trinity is like creation. God

doesn't you know he doesn't get out the

buns and burners and the slide rules and

the and the and the depth charts to help

us understand, you know, what he did. He

just boom, there it is. Believe it or

not.

Same thing with the Trinity.

So, we need a biblical view

of the Trinity. This is one place and

one area where a lot of people go off is

understanding the Holy Trinity. And

hopefully as we go through this, the

word of God is going to help us um with

these things. Let's pray. Father, we

come to you

and we thank you for your word. You are

who you say you are.

the mighty God that we saw in the

Psalms. The mighty God who is above

everyone and everything,

who does as he pleases.

And Father, we thank you that it it

pleased you to give us your kingdom. It

pleased you to come to earth and die for

our sins. It pleased you to send God the

Son to the earth. It's pleased you to

give us your Holy Spirit.

And we thank you for these things. Help

us to grow in grace and in the knowledge

of what a great God you are. Help us to

trust you in everything. And we pray in

Jesus name.

Oh Lord, as we go from this place

loving you more, trusting you more.

May the power of your love and the light

of your word shine to a sin darkened

world as we go from this place.
