  1. Well, he's where the weather's warm, but

  2. I don't envy him. I like the cold

  3. weather. I'm kind of different.

  4. >> Well, good evening. We've been started a

  5. new series of major

  6. doctrines of the Bible

  7. and going through that.

  8. And this evening we are going to look at

  9. and continue on the person of God.

  10. in the word of God. We saw

  11. John read that chapter tonight that he

  12. where it says the truth is in Christ. So

  13. that's where it's at. That's where we

  14. want to look

  15. and that's where we'll find it. And we

  16. looked at some of that uh the last time

  17. that we we were together. And

  18. and

  19. uh the first part of chapter 4 starts

  20. with uh with meekness and and loneliness

  21. and longsuffering.

  22. >> No, I'm sorry. You read you read

  23. Ephesians 4. I'm just referring to that.

  24. The chapter starts out, I'm going to

  25. start in 2 Corinthians chapter 6. I'm

    2 Corinthians 6 chapter mention

  26. just referencing that good chapter in

  27. Ephesians about what the church is here

  28. for. And we have to come in loneliness.

  29. We have to come inness before God. We're

  30. not going to learn anything um any other

  31. way. You know, pride is the devil's sin

  32. and he's got the world caught up in

  33. that.

  34. And we're caught up in it to some degree

  35. cuz we battle it as well.

  36. But God reveals himself to us. He's

  37. given us the word of God.

  38. Um, incredible book that we have, a

  39. miracle that we have. This book, if it

  40. weren't for God, we wouldn't have this

  41. book. So, what that's, you know, that's

  42. the high um

  43. the high thoughts we ought to have about

  44. God's word.

  45. It is the the living word of God from

  46. the living God.

  47. And he's given it to us to help us.

  48. And one of the things that it does, it

  49. helps us to learn of him.

  50. And you know, we wouldn't have a church

  51. without the word of God. We wouldn't

  52. have a Christianity without the word of

  53. God. We wouldn't have a salvation

  54. without the word of God.

  55. So God has brought those things to us

  56. and

  57. he's met us here at the cross. He's met

  58. us here where, you know, we find that we

  59. are sinners. We saw that uh as well the

  60. last time we were together. We have

  61. problems. You know, we are not meek and

  62. we're not lowly and we're not like that.

  63. We we are the opposite. So we we learn

  64. these things about God. We learn these

  65. things about ourselves. We learn these

  66. things from him. And we learned from

  67. Psalm 27 the last time that David

  68. uh sought the face of God. That's what

  69. he said. God, you said seek my face and

  70. I said I will seek your face. So the

  71. invitation's open and God wants us to

  72. communicate with him, to worship him, to

  73. learn from him. How many times did David

  74. say that in the Psalms? Teach me your

  75. ways, Lord. Show me your ways, Lord.

  76. Help me with your ways, Lord. Because as

  77. Isaiah the prophet says, our ways are

  78. not God's ways. Our thoughts are not

  79. God's thoughts. So, we have to abandon

  80. ours and embrace God's

  81. and with the thought of seeking God to

  82. understand who he is. He's a person.

  83. He's real. You know, he's not a force.

  84. Um he's not a you know he's not an it.

  85. Um he's certainly not dead.

  86. Um and all those things that the world

  87. thinks and even some churches proclaim

  88. God is not dead. He's living. And here I

  89. want to begin tonight in in uh 2

    2 Corinthians 6 chapter mention

  90. Corinthians chapter 6.

  91. And we're saved by faith and and we walk

  92. by faith. And as we walk by faith, we

  93. walk on this narrow road of the word of

  94. God. You know, we um don't need anybody

  95. else's opinion. We don't need to know

  96. what men think. We need to know what God

  97. thinks.

  98. So that comes back to who he is. the the

  99. Trinity

  100. describes God,

  101. you know, as three persons, but it

  102. doesn't tell us who God is and what God

  103. has done. Now, we we can learn that as

  104. we study the Trinity. We can learn that

  105. as we study God. And that's what's

  106. important is we see who God is that we

  107. learn, you know, more about him and what

  108. he's done. And we can't put God into

  109. categories, but you know, that's sort of

  110. the way that the Bible has for us to

  111. learn about him, who he is, and you

  112. know, what he has done.

  113. And uh here are

  114. God, the person. We saw that David

  115. wanted to seek the Lord and the Lord

  116. said seek David. So here Paul says that

  117. same thing to this this Corinthian

  118. church. A similar thing. God is a

  119. person. And he's created everything. We

  120. belong to him. Everything owes us

  121. existence

  122. to God. And here in verse 18 of chapter

  123. 6 of 2 Corinthians, he says, "And I will

  124. be a father unto you."

  125. Now, that's God speaking. You know, he

  126. wants to be a father to us. You will be

  127. my sons. You'll be my children. You

  128. know, he only has one son, the only

  129. begotten son. That's Christ. But we are,

  130. you know, we're adopted now into into

  131. his family. And daughters, do you want I

  132. want you to be my sons and daughters,

  133. says God. God wants to be our father.

  134. Now, we have some of us had fathers,

  135. some of us did not. Some of us had good

  136. fathers and some of us did not.

  137. But God is a good father

  138. and he wants us to come to him and to

  139. have that relationship. So, you know,

  140. God is a, you know, God is a greater

  141. than our parents. You know, he really

  142. does want to have this fellowship with

  143. us. Having therefore these promises,

  144. dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves

  145. from all filthiness of the flesh,

  146. perfecting holiness and the fear of God.

  147. So God says come come to me that we can

  148. have um fellowship and there you know

  149. there there are material things in the

  150. universe and there are immaterial things

  151. in the universe and you know our body is

  152. a material thing and our soul is an

  153. immaterial thing. Well, you know, we

  154. have the similar to with God. He He's

  155. the spirit. There's a part of God that's

  156. immaterial, invisible

  157. and and unseen and we can't see. But

  158. there is a part of God that we can see

  159. and that's his son who come to earth.

  160. That's what the incarnation

  161. was all about. That's why Jesus said

  162. about in Hebrews that a body has thou

  163. prepared for me. So God is a spirit and

  164. God is a person

  165. and uh you know we have understanding

  166. you know we can learn we can reason

  167. we can think.

  168. So if we can plan and if we can do all

  169. those things and God says he made us in

  170. his image then he must be able to do

  171. those things as well.

  172. So when it comes to God, I mean, he's

  173. he's a there's no one to compare to him.

  174. And that's what he says. Who you going

  175. to liken him to me?

  176. So, you know, he's he's able to think.

  177. He's able to plan. He's able to to do

  178. those things. And as we go through this

  179. series, we're going to get into some of

  180. those things that God has spoken and God

  181. said that he was going to do. But he has

  182. understanding. He has reason. He has

  183. wisdom.

  184. He has emotions. Remember Jesus wept and

  185. and it says in Hebrews that one of the

  186. reasons that Jesus come to the earth was

  187. to learn what it was to be a human and

  188. and and the sufferings that humans uh go

  189. through

  190. you know so God is you know he's greater

  191. than his creation you know some people

  192. believe in pantheism

  193. you know mentioned that while we were

  194. talking about this and pantheism means

  195. that the un the universe is God,

  196. you know, so they worship the universe

  197. as God. That's that catches up a lot of

  198. people around the world. But God is

  199. separate from his creation, you know.

  200. He's over his creation. He's not his

  201. creation,

  202. you know. So, we need to know that

  203. that's what the Bible says. So, you

  204. know, as we get into these some of these

  205. attributes of God and and the

  206. characteristics of God and we talk about

  207. the nature of God, his perfections are

  208. here in the word of God for us to see.

  209. And and as well, we see that he is uh he

  210. desires fellowship with us as he said

  211. here. He's not just, you know, holy and

  212. just, he's also righteous and kind.

  213. Look in the book of Titus chapter 3.

    Titus 3 chapter mention

  214. Titus chapter 3

    Titus 3 chapter mention

  215. in verse four.

  216. Paul says that here to Titus in this

  217. letter. He says, "But after the kindness

  218. and love of God our savior toward man

  219. appeared." So

  220. God is kind.

  221. God is loving. And as we look for the

  222. kindness of God and we look for the love

  223. of God, there's no greater place for

  224. that to be displayed than Jesus Christ

  225. our savior. And you know, John says

  226. similar thing back in the book of John,

  227. first John, that herein is love, not

  228. that we love God, but that he loved us

  229. and he gave himself for us. So God

  230. didn't wait on us to love him.

  231. He began to love us. You know, we're

  232. going to some night, someday, we're

  233. going to look at the love of God if the

  234. Lord carries. But that's one of the

  235. great attributes of God.

  236. And you know, God's God's attributes can

  237. be broken down into a couple categories.

  238. They have there are the incommunicable

  239. attributes.

  240. That means they belong to God alone.

  241. You know, there are things about God

  242. that that are different than angels and

  243. humans and you know and and many things

  244. like that. Many things uh are you know

  245. God is God is the sole possessor of

  246. these things. Nobody else can create.

  247. You know, God created

  248. us in this universe. And you know, he is

  249. transcendent and he is infinite in his

  250. nature. You know, we just aren't going

  251. to be able to

  252. get out our books and our our our slide

  253. rules and our

  254. scientific calculator

  255. and figure God out. It just doesn't work

  256. that way. No one's going to figure God

  257. out no matter

  258. who they are, how you know there's does

  259. this is not an IQ thing. It's a faith

  260. thing.

  261. So God is beyond our finding out. So

  262. if

  263. you've learned that, then you you know

  264. those things about God. If you've not

  265. learned that, then know this about God.

  266. He's beyond our our finding him out.

  267. That doesn't mean he doesn't reveal

  268. himself. That's what he says. You you'll

  269. never figure me out.

  270. you know, fully and completely. But but

  271. know this, I'm faithful. Know this, I'm

  272. loving. Know this, I'm kind.

  273. So that's the great God of this book.

  274. He's he's selfsufficient. He didn't need

  275. anybody to help him with anything. He

  276. could have just went on being God

  277. forever, never created us. He's

  278. self-sufficient. Uh and uh in need, not

  279. in need of anything, including us.

  280. And uh he's eternal.

  281. He can't share that one with us. He has

  282. given us eternal life and we are going

  283. to live forever. But we have a birthday,

  284. don't we? Time when we began. God has no

  285. time when he began.

  286. Uh he's immutable. It means that he's

  287. never going to change.

  288. God's that's what he said in the the

  289. verse in numbers. I'm not like a man

  290. where I'm going to change my mind.

  291. You know, God says it. It's going to

  292. happen. God proclaims it. It's that's

  293. the way it is. That's just one of the

  294. things about God that he doesn't share

  295. with us. His omniscience, you know, he's

  296. he's all knowing. Um God's never learned

  297. anything.

  298. And we're going to dive into some of

  299. these. I'm just touching on them briefly

  300. as we go through uh the series. is um

  301. you know God has the power he's all

  302. powerful. That's what the Bible says. He

  303. can

  304. he he's not he can't sin. He can't be

  305. tempted with sin. There are things that

  306. God can't do. But when it comes to

  307. power, there's nobody stronger than him.

  308. There's nobody going to overpower God

  309. and overthrow the universe.

  310. It won't happen.

  311. So anything that is within his will, he

  312. he has the power to do it. And God's in

  313. need of nothing. You know, he uh we saw

  314. these verses where he God said, you

  315. know, come seek my face. He's not in

  316. need of that, but he he desires that. He

  317. desires that for us. He wants the

  318. fellowship. He wants to be our father.

  319. um he wants us to be his sons and

  320. daughters. So you know those are some of

  321. the incommunicable attributes about God

  322. and the these others that he can share

  323. with us they are called communicable

  324. attributes

  325. and these are things that he shares with

  326. humans.

  327. His love, his mercy, his grace, his

  328. goodness, his justice,

  329. his holiness. We saw that the last time

  330. his faithfulness, his wisdom, and his

  331. longsuffering.

  332. And that's maybe you can think of some

  333. more, but those are the things that God

  334. can share with us. And as we study him

  335. and we study the word of God, we can

  336. see, you know, that God is kind, God is

  337. loving, you know, so we should be kind

  338. and we should be loving like him. and uh

  339. turn over to Psalm 139. This great Psalm

  340. of David.

  341. Psalm 139.

  342. David talks about some of God's

  343. attributes here in Psalm 139.

  344. Where can I go to get away from you?

  345. That's what this psalm is. And you know,

  346. wherever David went, God was there.

  347. And

  348. David said God searched him and known

  349. him there in verse one. So know that

  350. about God. He knows you.

  351. He knows me.

  352. He knows our thoughts. He knows uh what

  353. time we're going to get up tomorrow

  354. morning.

  355. He knows what time we're going to go to

  356. bed tomorrow night. He knows everything

  357. that's going to happen tomorrow.

  358. Not just about one of us, but all of us.

  359. That now we got to jump down to what

  360. David says,

  361. if you will, down in verse six, he says,

  362. "Such knowledge is too wonderful for me.

  363. It is high. I cannot attain it." What?

  364. God knows my thoughts before I take

  365. them. God knows the future. Yeah. And

  366. you know, that's the great thing about

  367. God. Not only does he know the future,

  368. he's he he's he has a way of affecting

  369. the future. You and I had a terrible

  370. future awaiting us

  371. in the lake of fire that we were born

  372. separated from him. And now he's done

  373. something to to help us. That's what

  374. David's so excited about here in Psalm

  375. 139. God delivered him and God set his

  376. feet on a rock, you know. So it's it's

  377. impossible to define God but that

  378. doesn't mean we can't try. It doesn't

  379. mean we can't look and uh God invites

  380. invites that. That's the way the word of

  381. God is. You know the word of God says

  382. you know come and see. God says come and

  383. see. Search me out. See if you can see

  384. if you can understand me.

  385. So you know that's what we have in the

  386. word of God. These are the, you know,

  387. God's words and God's ways and, you

  388. know, we're trying to define them. We're

  389. trying to look at them so we can

  390. identify God. We can see his personality

  391. and who he is. Uh, turn over to Acts

    Acts 17 chapter mention

  392. chapter 17.

  393. So, we're going to be a while trying to

  394. understand who God is. He's so great.

  395. And you know, we I've been saved for 36

  396. years. And

  397. some of you have been saved longer, some

  398. of you have been saved shorter shorter

  399. times. But that's, you know, that's what

  400. our life should be devoted to.

  401. You know, devoted to learning more about

  402. this wonderful God in this book who

  403. cares so much about me, wants me to be

  404. his son, wants me to be he wants to be

  405. my father.

  406. He doesn't like seeing us struggle with

  407. sin and difficulties down here. He He

  408. wants us to avoid those things. And

  409. we're not going to avoid everything.

  410. But here in in Acts chapter 17, you're

    Acts 17 chapter mention

  411. familiar with this uh this chapter.

  412. And um

  413. Paul says up there in verse

  414. I'll start in verse uh 22. Paul stood in

  415. the midst of Mars Hill and said you men

  416. of Athens I perceive in all things that

  417. you are very religious

  418. and that that's the way fallen man is.

  419. You know, if you you've been isolated

  420. from other people and you've been

  421. isolated from other religions and you've

  422. been isolated,

  423. you um believe me that there are people

  424. out there that are, as Paul puts it,

  425. very religious.

  426. You know, they'll and very religious

  427. people make idols.

  428. So, there are a lot of idols out there.

  429. We need the we need the word of God. And

  430. you know that's what fallen man does.

  431. He's an idol maker. You know, if he

  432. doesn't have a god, he'll make one.

  433. No matter where people have went all

  434. over this world,

  435. you know, the the the cultures and the

  436. people and the tribes,

  437. you know, most of them have some sort of

  438. idol,

  439. um some sort of god that they've made

  440. up. In some of the cultures, they they

  441. worship the leaders.

  442. So, you know, that's who man is. That's

  443. what man does.

  444. You know, we need God to come along like

  445. Paul comes along here and helps us who

  446. understand some things that they're, you

  447. know, the false gods that are out there

  448. that they're not the true God. They're

  449. not um, you know, that's not the way.

  450. The way is the word of God. The way is

  451. the the God in the Bible. And Paul says,

  452. "Here, I passed by and beheld your

  453. devotions, and I found an altar with the

  454. inscription," to the unknown God, whom

  455. therefore you ignorantly worship him,

  456. declare I unto you. So, we need people

  457. to declare to us who God is. We're not

  458. born with that. Doesn't matter who your

  459. ancestors were. You know, we ultimately

  460. go back to Adam and we're born with a

  461. sin nature. We're born separated from

  462. God. We're born bent on sinning. We

  463. That's who we all are.

  464. And Paul says, "This is the God I'm

  465. going to declare to you, the real God,

  466. the true God,

  467. the God of the scripture." And Paul

  468. starts and he says starts with the with

  469. the world. And he says, "God who made

  470. the world, all things that are in it,

  471. seeing he is the Lord of heaven and

  472. earth and dwells not in a temple made

  473. with hands." You can't put God in a box.

  474. But he did make everything that we can

  475. see out here. It did come from him has

  476. its origin with him. We have our origin

  477. with God. That's what men need to need

  478. to learn.

  479. You know, if you're unsaved, you're

  480. you're going to die and go back to God.

  481. That's what the Bible says. You're not

  482. going to uh disappear into cremation or

  483. or or you know, however

  484. you choose to depart from this world.

  485. You cannot get away from God. The Bible

  486. says, uh, it's appointed unto man once

  487. to die and then the judgment.

  488. So, it's not all over when we get out of

  489. this world. It's there's more, a lot

  490. more.

  491. And he says here, neither is worship

  492. with man's hands as though he needeth

  493. anything. So, God doesn't need anything.

  494. He doesn't need us to worship him.

  495. He doesn't need to mess around with us.

  496. He could have just spoke us all into

  497. hell, but I'm glad he didn't because

  498. he's a loving God. He's a kind God. He's

  499. a caring God.

  500. And he has made of one blood all nations

  501. of men to dwell on all the face of the

  502. earth. So all the people come from God.

  503. The world comes from God.

  504. And uh he says here he's determined the

  505. times beforehand and appointed and the

  506. bounds of their habitation.

  507. You know, God God has his providence.

  508. There's no such thing as luck. Good

  509. luck, bad luck. We have the providence

  510. of God.

  511. And it through him and it's not far from

  512. every one of us. For in him we live, we

  513. move, we have our being. So we're made

  514. in the image of God. That's where we

  515. come from. So Paul even tells these guys

  516. here, "Yeah, you come from God. You

  517. might not be saved. You need to hear the

  518. gospel,

  519. but you belong to God.

  520. And their own poets have said, "For we

  521. also are off as offspring. For as much

  522. then as we are the offspring of God, we

  523. ought not to think that the Godhead is

  524. like gold and silver." Paul says he

  525. talks about the Godhead here,

  526. you know, the Lord of hosts, you know,

  527. the great trinity, you know, the

  528. Godhead.

  529. He mentions

  530. he's not going to like uh gold and

  531. silver and stone and and carved by art

  532. and man's devices. Boy, that catches up

  533. a lot. You know, that's one of the

  534. commandments. Don't make anything on the

  535. earth to represent God.

  536. And you know, so many people do it.

  537. That's that's who we are. We're idol

  538. worshippers. We want to make an idol so

  539. we can worship it. In the times of the

  540. ignorance, God overlook, but now he

  541. commands all men everywhere to repent.

  542. And here's why.

  543. Because he's appointed a day that he

  544. will judge the world in righteousness.

  545. that the man whom he has ordained

  546. concerning that which he has given

  547. assurance unto all men that he has

  548. raised him from the dead and that's

  549. Christ.

  550. So you know people need to know you know

  551. that the unknown God Paul said I'm here

  552. to tell you about him. He's created

  553. everything. He created you and he has

  554. sent his son to this earth to die for

  555. our sins so we might um have eternal

  556. life. So you know what is

  557. things that are visible or you know are

  558. from God the creation us but there are

  559. also invisible things you know that are

  560. gods. We can't see heaven. You know,

  561. Paul got took up there. Um, John got

  562. took up there. Um, but everybody's going

  563. to have to wait.

  564. You know, Peter and the the apostles,

  565. the mount of transfiguration, they got a

  566. glimpse into heaven. They got a glimpse

  567. of glory. But there's something above

  568. us. There's something out there from

  569. this God who has made everything. and

  570. beware and get ready.

  571. And that's what Paul tries to tell them

  572. here. Turn to Colossians 1.

  573. And you know, God has told us not to

  574. make any images of him.

  575. And I know somewhere in the home study

  576. program, somebody said, uh, be like, you

  577. know, your kid coming in from school and

  578. bringing a toad in saying, "Dad, this

  579. toad reminds me of you."

  580. Not good.

  581. And when we try to make an image of God,

  582. that's what we do.

  583. We're holding a toad before God and

  584. saying, "This is you."

  585. You remember when the in 70 AD when they

  586. tore down the temple, they got into the

  587. holiest of holies, you know what was

  588. there? Nothing.

  589. Nothing. No images, no pictures, no

  590. nothing. Nothing.

  591. So, we don't want to make any image of

  592. God on this earth. It's dangerous to do

  593. that because ultimately what follows and

  594. the and the apostles a couple of times

  595. remember when they got in the presence

  596. of angels they fell down and worshiped

  597. angels.

  598. They said nope don't do that.

  599. So we don't want to become idol

  600. worshippers. We want to only worship God

  601. and do it the way he says.

  602. And here in verse 15 of Colossians

    Colossians 1 chapter mention

  603. chapter 1, who is the image of the

  604. invisible God, the firstborn of all

  605. creation? You know who that is.

  606. So God's God did something. Say, "Oh,

  607. God, give me an give me an image. I show

  608. me who you are." Well, God answered that

  609. question here with his son. I'll show

  610. you who I am. I'm gonna send you my son.

  611. Uh by the way, we saw in that

  612. the psalm this morning about who is the

  613. king of glory. Then we saw at the end

  614. Christ is the king of glory. Well, here

  615. he is again. He existed before anything

  616. ever existed.

  617. So some people have a hard time with

  618. that. What do you mean Jesus existed

  619. before he existed? Well, that's what

  620. this says.

  621. And the Jews had a problem with that.

  622. You know, he said, you know, you you

  623. think you're older than Abraham. How old

  624. are you, Jesus? Well, he is older than

  625. Abraham. He's eternal. The Son of God is

  626. eternal. And that's what he says here.

  627. For by him were all things created. And

  628. not only did he exist before he come to

  629. earth, he made everything that you and I

  630. are seeing

  631. in heaven. and that is in earth visible

  632. and invisible. So there's both

  633. categories.

  634. So there's nothing invisible

  635. that Jesus is not going to that he

  636. doesn't have dominion over. And that's

  637. what he says. Whether they be thrones,

  638. dominions, principalities, powers, the

  639. ultimate power is Christ. The ultimate

  640. person is him. He created the universe.

  641. It's he made it. He's going to destroy

  642. it. It's his right.

  643. And he says here, "All things were

  644. created by him and for him." Get that

  645. last part.

  646. For him.

  647. Whatever those dominions might be. Now,

  648. now there are a lot of fallen angels.

  649. And now they're going to be unbelievers.

  650. And now we have this old pitiful world

  651. that's about that's about to end.

  652. But everything was made by him and for

  653. him. Now, he didn't create sin. Sin does

  654. not find its origin with God.

  655. We'll get into that later on.

  656. He is before all things and by him all

  657. things consist. So, not only did he make

  658. everything, he's running the show here.

  659. That's why there's no such thing as

  660. luck.

  661. We have the providence of God.

  662. He's doing his his whatever it is he

  663. wants to do because he's God.

  664. And that's what we're looking at. Not

  665. necessarily what he's doing, but who he

  666. is.

  667. For it pleased the father, in him should

  668. all the fullness dwell. So the invisible

  669. God the father said to God the son, you

  670. know, and God the son said as I said in

  671. Isaiah, here am I, Lord. Send me. So we

  672. have the Godhead working on our behalf

  673. and all glory is going to come back to

  674. him.

  675. And that's what the rest of this says.

  676. And having made peace through the blood

  677. of his cross.

  678. But people don't like that either. What

  679. do you mean God?

  680. Jesus is God. He He shed his blood. Oh

  681. yeah.

  682. He's God.

  683. And he shed his blood.

  684. And uh he's over heaven. He's over the

  685. earth. And you that were once alienated

  686. and enemies in your mind wicked works,

  687. you have now been reconciled. That's all

  688. of them. We just wicked. We didn't even

  689. think about it. We didn't even want to

  690. think about it.

  691. But God took action

  692. and sending his son to redeem us.

  693. And then and he says here in the body of

  694. his flesh through death to present you

  695. holy

  696. and unblameable and unreprovable

  697. in his sight. What a plan.

  698. But that's who Jesus is. He not only can

  699. control the universe and take back the

  700. universe in between time. He he he did a

  701. little side work for us in paying for

  702. our sins. I'm not saying that was a side

  703. work.

  704. an additional work.

  705. If you continue in faith, grounded and

  706. settled, not moved away from the hope of

  707. the gospel which you have heard, which

  708. was preached to every creature that is

  709. under heaven, I Paul made a minister. So

  710. that's where it's at. It's in the

  711. gospel. It's in the gospel of this great

  712. God here in this section. Manton, Thomas

  713. Manton said this, "God cannot make a

  714. creature equal to himself, nor begott a

  715. son unequal to himself."

  716. That's a pretty good insight there. So,

  717. God

  718. the Son has come to our rescue and the

  719. fatherhood, the the Godhead is equal.

  720. Look over in chapter 2

  721. and in verse 9.

  722. For in him dwells all the fullness of

  723. the godhead bodily.

  724. These people in this in this town

  725. thought, you know, that the last thing

  726. you want to be is a person or in a body.

  727. You know, if God's so great and God's so

  728. good, boy, it'd be a shame if he had to

  729. become a man.

  730. Well, they don't understand why he

  731. become a man.

  732. And here Paul dealt with that. Here Paul

  733. explained that. He says, you know, Jesus

  734. is he's equal with the other other two

  735. in the Godhead.

  736. And not only is he equal, but we're

  737. complete in him. So a member of the

  738. Godhead died for us,

  739. paid for my sin, given me eternal life,

  740. and I'm complete in him. I don't need

  741. anything else. I don't God doesn't need

  742. my money for my salvation. God doesn't

  743. need my good works for my salvation. God

  744. doesn't need anything from me for my

  745. salvation. This is not something I do.

  746. This is something that God has done for

  747. me.

  748. And that's what this says

  749. as he goes on. Then he says in chapter

  750. 3, seek those things. Verse three of

  751. three chapter 1 verse chapter 3 verse

  752. one.

  753. If you then be risen with Christ, we're

  754. not waiting to be risen with Christ

  755. when he gave us the new birth. Romans 6

  756. says we were raised right then and

  757. there. The day you were saved, the day I

  758. was saved,

  759. we were risen Christ. Now we consider

  760. you consider

  761. our heart on things that are above which

  762. is Christ. Can't wait to see him. Can't

  763. wait to thank him.

  764. Can't wait to talk to him.

  765. Yeah, he's there. He's just just on the

  766. other side.

  767. Set your affection on things above and

  768. not things on the earth. You're dead.

  769. So, I'm dead to this life. I'm dead to

  770. this earth.

  771. And and it's because of who God is. God

  772. has life in himself.

  773. God breathed into Adam and Adam became a

  774. living soul. God breathed into us with

  775. the his spirit. God breathed into us the

  776. uh the um regeneration, the new birth.

  777. And God has given us a great gift and

  778. his son.

  779. So now we're not dead anymore.

  780. And our life is hidden with Christ in

  781. God. And when Christ who is our life,

  782. he's everything, the alpha and the

  783. omega.

  784. when he shall appear, we will be with

  785. him in glory over there on the other

  786. side that we can't see. We can't handle

  787. that glory yet, can we? So, you know, it

  788. it it doesn't mean that we just

  789. surrender everything in our thought

  790. process and just say, "Well, I'm just

  791. going to be, you know, I'm just going to

  792. be a robot and march on into heaven."

  793. No, the the Bible doesn't tell us to

  794. check our intellect out at all.

  795. you know, scripture,

  796. uh, it just doesn't

  797. try to prove the Trinity. You know,

  798. that's that's hard to do. I've tried to

  799. do it. It's almost impossible. You can't

  800. prove the Trinity.

  801. If someone doesn't believe the Bible,

  802. if you believe the Bible, then it's it's

  803. here. It is. That's one of these things

  804. where God says, "Humble yourself.

  805. It's all loneliness and meekness. The

  806. truth is in Christ." These are great and

  807. wonderful things for us. And you know,

  808. God, you know, he's not a mathematic

  809. equation or a scientific, you know,

  810. formula

  811. or project.

  812. He's he's here in his word and he shows

  813. us who he is. He shows us, you know,

  814. what he is and what God is and who God

  815. is are just bound together.

  816. you know, when it when we we start

  817. getting into

  818. some of the decrees of God and the

  819. things that God has done, it's, you

  820. know, the the the wisdom of God is just

  821. intense. Turn to Mark 6.

  822. Mark chapter 6.

    Mark 6 chapter mention

  823. And you know, God is our father. He

  824. we're his children. He can't do anything

  825. without being tender and kind and nice

  826. to us. He's not an ogre sitting in

  827. heaven waiting on us to step out of line

  828. so he can smack us with a whip.

  829. That's not God. That's some ogre.

  830. God's a person. God has a great

  831. character.

  832. Um

  833. and here in Mark in chapter 6

  834. and you know there's a the unity of the

  835. Trinity. We're going to look at that

  836. someday too. And that's,

  837. you know, that's an amazing thing that

  838. no matter where we look and how we look

  839. at the word of God, that the Trinity is

  840. united

  841. and and what they're doing

  842. and bringing us to God.

  843. And in Mark chapter 6

    Mark 6 chapter mention

  844. and then verse 34,

  845. and Jesus when he came out, he saw many

  846. people. He was moved with compassion

  847. toward them.

  848. So, you know, God is a being. God is

  849. able to love. God is able to to give and

  850. to care and to do something.

  851. And that's what he says because they

  852. were sheep not having a shepherd. That's

  853. why he was moved.

  854. And as he began to teach them many

  855. things, so we like David, teach us,

  856. Lord, we're glad you have compassion on

  857. us. We're glad you care about us as you

  858. cared about these folks. Look in Luke

    Luke 7 chapter mention

  859. chapter 7.

  860. Luke

  861. 7.

  862. just

  863. almighty God cares deeply for us.

  864. He's more than just, you know, all of

  865. these attributes and all these great

  866. things. He's a caring, loving, kind.

  867. And here in Luke 7

  868. in verse 13,

  869. and when the Lord saw her, he had

  870. compassion on her and said unto her,

  871. "Weep not." Well, this is the I think

  872. the widow, isn't it? That God had Jesus

  873. had compassion on the widow. He had saw

  874. her and had compassion on her. And

  875. that's who God is. God has compassion.

  876. God is caring.

  877. He his character is He is merciful. He's

  878. loving like Jesus said. When we get to

  879. heaven, what do you think is He's going

  880. to change?

  881. No. When we get to heaven, he's still

  882. going to be just like this. He's this

  883. way for eternity. And he's made us this

  884. way for eternity.

  885. And you know, compassion does what to

  886. us? It it it leads us to do something.

  887. That's what First John says. What how

  888. can you say you have the love of God in

  889. you and somebody needs help and you

  890. don't help? Don't don't say the love of

  891. God's in me. Rather help them and then

  892. say, "Yeah, the love of God is in me."

  893. So that's the way it is with God. God

  894. didn't sit in heaven and say these poor

  895. guys are in trouble.

  896. He sent his son down here

  897. to

  898. do more than just die for our sins. that

  899. he did and we're forever grateful for

  900. that will be in him with him for

  901. eternity. But he's done more. He's, you

  902. know, I was a I was a slave to sin. I

  903. was a I was a terrible sinful man.

  904. And you know, he come to me and his

  905. kindness and his love. And that's that's

  906. what that's what uh turn over to Matthew

    Matthew 11 chapter mention

  907. chapter 11.

  908. Matthew chapter 11 says,

    Matthew 11 chapter mention

  909. you know, all the great things about

  910. Almighty God

  911. up there in verses 25, 26, and 27.

  912. You know, we could we could spend some

  913. time on those, but

  914. all those great things about God. Yet

  915. Jesus says, "Come unto me, all ye that

  916. labor and are heavy laden, and I will

  917. give you rest. Take my yoke upon you.

  918. Learn of me, for I am meek, lowly in

  919. heart, and you will find rest unto your

  920. souls.

  921. My yoke is easy, and my burden is

  922. light."

  923. So Jesus was what God, you know, God, he

  924. chooses to use the meek, doesn't he?

  925. That's why he wants us to be meek.

  926. That's why he wants us to trust in him.

  927. You know that the nation of Israel was,

  928. you know, an example. God said, "I

  929. didn't I didn't choose you because

  930. you're the greatest. I chose you because

  931. you're the least."

  932. So, we can apply that to ourselves. God

  933. didn't choose me because I'm great. He

  934. chose me because I'm least

  935. and I'm indebted to him. Turn to John

    John 14 chapter mention

  936. chapter 14.

  937. You say, "I I want to I want to know

  938. God, you know. I want to be like David.

  939. Want to seek him, you know. I want to

  940. take him up on his invitation.

  941. to get to know him.

  942. And you know, there's only one way to

  943. that that can be done.

  944. There's no other way. Jesus said in John

  945. 10 about about the about the uh the

  946. thieves and the robbers. He said they'll

  947. they'll try to climb up some other way.

  948. And that's what people do.

  949. They try to climb up some other way. Oh,

  950. I can I'll figure God out. I'll be the

  951. guy that does it.

  952. You know, God knows every thought in

  953. your head. So, please don't try that.

  954. Just come humbly to him in in loneliness

  955. and meekness like he's asked us to do

  956. and say, "The truth is in Christ. Show

  957. me." And and Jesus here says a similar

  958. thing in in John chapter 14

    John 14 chapter mention

  959. and verse 8.

  960. Philip said unto him,"Lord,

  961. show us the father and it suffices us.

  962. We'll be happy. We'll be uh we'll be

  963. satisfied."

  964. And Jesus says, "Have I been such a long

  965. time with you and you don't know these

  966. things, fill? He that has seen me has

  967. seen the father. How say, show us the

  968. father." So they had to, you know, Jesus

  969. had to to tell them, you know, there's,

  970. you know, God the Father is not going to

  971. come down here to the earth for you to

  972. see. He's up there. I'm going to take

  973. you to him. But before I take you to

  974. him, you need some changes.

  975. And this is what he's done. He's given

  976. us this great hope.

  977. So, you know, God gave life to Adam and

  978. Eve.

  979. He gave life to Christ when he was in a

  980. tomb.

  981. Bible says God the father, God the son,

  982. God the holy spirit raised him. The

  983. trinity was involved in the resurrection

  984. of Jesus. But they, you know, life comes

  985. from God. And that's, you know, that's

  986. our hope with our resurrection. You

  987. know, God is the only one that can

  988. resurrect our bodies. He made them.

  989. He owns them.

  990. For those who are redeemed, he owns them

  991. twice.

  992. Through Adam and now through Christ. But

  993. you know, everything and everyone had

  994. their beginning with God except God. He

  995. had no beginning.

  996. He has no ending. He's eternal.

  997. He's the one that we are uh that we're

  998. here to to praise and to thank.

  999. And um you know, how can you not agree

1000. with the scripture about this? Does

  1001. anybody have a watch on? I didn't wear

  1002. one.

1003. Where did a You got a watch? Where did

  1004. it come from?

1005. Somebody made it. You didn't just find

1006. it on the street. You know, it got found

1007. all of its parts and got together.

1008. No, a watch has to have a watch maker.

1009. And this world is the same. We have to

1010. have someone greater than the watch

1011. maker. It's God who created us.

1012. And we belong to him. He's our father.

1013. We're his children. And he tells us here

1014. in verse six, I am the way.

  1015. I am the truth.

  1016. I am the life.

1017. No man comes to the father but by me.

  1018. The only way

1019. into God's presence is through his son.

1020. The only way into heaven

  1021. is through God's son.

1022. And the trinity is united in this.

  1023. You know, that's that's the wonderful

1024. thing. You know, God the father, he

1025. didn't get upset with God the son for

  1026. dying for our sins.

  1027. They're rejoicing,

  1028. you know, they're glad, they're happy,

  1029. they're united in this.

1030. So, the universe, it belongs to God. And

1031. as I mentioned, he's he's uh he is not

1032. the universe, but it belongs to him.

1033. And he talks about the uh the unity of

1034. the trinity back here in Isaiah. Turn

  1035. back to Isaiah.

  1036. Isaiah

  1037. uh 41

  1038. Isaiah 41 and verse4.

  1039. God's always been there.

  1040. He's eternal.

1041. And that's what this verse says. Who has

  1042. wrought and done it.

1043. So he's not just idol in heaven,

1044. you know, waiting on us to die and hope

1045. we make it. He's so active. He's active

1046. in his world. He's active in his church.

1047. He's active in our lives.

1048. Calling the generations from the the

  1049. beginning.

1050. I the Lord am the first. I am the last.

1051. I am He. Again, God says, I'm however

1052. far you want to go back, I was there

1053. before. However far you want to go into

1054. the future, I'll go farther.

1055. God's eternal. He always been there. I

  1056. look in chapter 44.

  1057. Isaiah chapter 44

    Isaiah 44 chapter mention

  1058. and verse 6.

1059. Three times he says this.

1060. Thus saith the Lord, the King of Israel,

1061. and his redeemer, the Lord

1062. of hosts. So here we have some God talk

1063. between the father and the son, between

1064. the members of the trinity

  1065. and they're they're equal. So they're

1066. both first and they're both last. And

1067. beside them, there is no one else.

1068. That's who God is, the God of this book.

1069. Now look over in chapter 48.

  1070. in verse 12.

1071. So what do we do?

1072. If God is who he says he is, then then

1073. we humbly say, "Lord, teach us your

1074. ways. Lord, show us your ways. Help us."

1075. Um, and here we have in chapter 48 verse

1076. 12, that's what he says. says, "Hearken

1077. unto me, oh Jacob, and O Israel, my

  1078. called.

1079. I am he, I am the first, and I am the

1080. last." So that's the God of this book.

1081. And as we learn who he is, and we learn

1082. these great things about him, we want to

1083. say what what these men in the word of

1084. God have said, "Show us your ways. teach

1085. us your paths and and help us to listen

1086. to you and get to know who you are and

1087. get to know what you have done. Let's

  1088. pray.

1089. Father, we thank you for your word.

1090. And as a father pies his children, so

1091. have you pied those, Father, that love

1092. you. So we thank you for the great

  1093. grace, the great favor

1094. that you've given to us through your

1095. son, not just in our salvation, but that

1096. we might know you, Father. We might know

1097. you, Lord Jesus. We might know you, Holy

  1098. Spirit.

1099. And we might know your word. So guide

1100. and direct in everything in our lives.

1101. We pray in Jesus name. Amen.

  1102. >> 642. Stand with us. 42.

1103. >> Lord, as we go from this place,

1104. loving you more, trusting you more.

1105. May the power of your love and the light

1106. of your word shine to a sin darkened

1107. world. As we go from this place,
