  1. Good morning, everyone. Thank you for joining us for worship. For those of you who are new,

  2. my name is Sean. I'm one of the pastors of Trinity Cambridge Church, and we are in a sermon series

  3. in the book of Exodus. So if you would please turn with me in your Bibles to Exodus chapter 24.

    Exodus 24 chapter mention

  4. And if you don't have a Bible, feel free to raise your hand,

  5. and we'll bring a Bible over for you that you can use while you're here.

  6. Let me pray for the reading and preaching of God's Word.

  7. Father, forgive me that I cannot do this passage justice,

  8. but I ask that by the power of your Holy Spirit, you would use my snavering tongue to praise your name,

  9. exalt the name of your Son, Jesus.

  10. Point to the glory, your glory revealed in the face of Jesus Christ.

  11. May the words of my mouth and the meditation of all of our hearts be pleasing to you,

  12. O Lord, our Rock and Redeemer.

  13. Amen.

  14. If you would please stand for the reading of God's Word from Exodus 24, verses 1 to 18.

    Exodus 24 chapter mention

  15. Then he said to Moses,

  16. Come up to the Lord, you and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu,

  17. and seventy of the elders of Israel,

  18. and worship from afar.

  19. Moses alone shall come near to the Lord,

  20. but the others shall not come near,

  21. and the people shall not come up with him.

  22. Moses came and told the people all the words of the Lord and all the rules.

  23. And all the people answered with one voice and said,

  24. All the words that the Lord has spoken, we will do.

  25. And Moses wrote down all the words of the Lord.

  26. He rose early in the morning and built an altar at the foot of the mountain

  27. and twelve pillars according to the twelve tribes of Israel.

  28. And he sent young men of the people of Israel who offered burnt offerings

  29. and sacrificed peace offerings of oxen to the Lord.

  30. And Moses took half of the blood and put it in basins,

  31. and half of the blood he threw against the altar.

  32. Then he took the book of the covenant and read it in the hearing of the people,

  33. and they said,

  34. All that the Lord has spoken, we will do, and we will be obedient.

  35. And Moses took the blood and threw it on the people and said,

  36. Behold the blood of the covenant that the Lord has made with you

  37. in accordance with all these words.

  38. Then Moses and Aaron and Nadab and Abihu and seventy of the elders of Israel went up,

  39. and they saw the God of Israel.

  40. There was under his feet, as it were, a pavement of sapphire stone,

  41. like the very heaven for clearness.

  42. And he did not lay his hand on the chief men of the people of Israel.

  43. They beheld God and ate and drank.

  44. The Lord said to Moses,

  45. Come up to me on the mountain and wait there,

  46. that I may give you the tablets of stone with the law and the commandment,

  47. which I have written for their instruction.

  48. So Moses rose with his assistant Joshua,

  49. and Moses went up into the mountain of God.

  50. And he said to the elders,

  51. Wait here for us until we return to you.

  52. And behold, Aaron and Hur are with you.

  53. Whoever has a dispute, let him go to them.

  54. Then Moses went up on the mountain,

  55. and the cloud covered the mountain.

  56. The glory of the Lord dwelt on Mount Sinai,

  57. and the cloud covered it six days.

  58. And on the seventh day,

  59. he called to Moses out of the mist of the cloud.

  60. Now the appearance of the glory of the Lord

  61. was like a devouring fire on the top of the mountain

  62. in the sight of the people of Israel.

  63. Moses entered the cloud and went up on the mountain,

  64. and Moses was on the mountain forty days and forty nights.

  65. This is God's holy and authoritative word.

  66. Please be seated.

  67. Vivek Murthy is the United States Surgeon General,

  68. and that makes him our federal government's leading spokesman

  69. on matters of personal health, public health.

  70. And even before the pandemic,

  71. he wrote a book entitled Together,

  72. The Healing Power of Human Connection in a Sometimes Lonely World.

  73. In the book, he makes the case that loneliness is a public health concern

  74. and claims that our society is experiencing an epidemic of loneliness

  75. of the same scale as the opioid epidemic or obesity.

  76. This is driven, he argues, in large part

  77. by the accelerated pace of life

  78. and the spread of technology into all of our social interactions.

  79. When we are preoccupied with efficiency and convenience,

  80. real relationships, which are often inconvenient

  81. and take time and hard work,

  82. get relegated to the back burner.

  83. According to neuroscientists from another article,

  84. our brain registers loneliness as a threat,

  85. so it triggers our flight or fight response to stress hormones.

  86. Your heart rate rises,

  87. your blood pressures and blood sugar level increase

  88. to provide energy in case you need it.

  89. Your body produces extra inflammatory cells

  90. to repair tissue damage and prevent infection

  91. and fewer antibodies to fight viruses.

  92. They say that subconsciously,

  93. you start to view other people more as potential threats,

  94. sources of rejection or apathy,

  95. and less as friends,

  96. remedies for your loneliness.

  97. Not only does the feeling of loneliness

  98. put us at greater risk for emotional disorders

  99. like depression, anxiety, and substance abuse,

  100. it also makes us more susceptible

  101. to seemingly unrelated physical disorders

  102. such as cancer, dementia, hypertension,

  103. heart disease, stroke, and premature death.

  104. People with weak social relationships

  105. are 50% more likely to die prematurely

  106. than people with strong relationships.

  107. Meta-analysis by psychologist and neuroscientist

  108. Julianne Holt-Lunstad

  109. compares the health risks of loneliness

  110. to smoking 15 cigarettes a day.

  111. The so-called loneliness epidemic

  112. has gotten worse since the pandemic.

  113. According to a citywide survey

  114. administered in New York City,

  115. 57% of city residents said that they feel lonely

  116. some or most of the time.

  117. We feel loneliness acutely

  118. and loneliness affects us negatively

  119. because it goes against God's design.

  120. God himself is triune.

  121. One God in three persons,

  122. Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

  123. And he created us, humanity, in his image

  124. so that we were created for fellowship,

  125. to be in relationship with one another.

  126. But not only did God create us

  127. to be in relationships with fellow human beings,

  128. even more fundamentally,

  129. God created us for fellowship with himself.

  130. And spiritual separation from God

  131. is at the root of all the dysfunction

  132. and disorder in this world.

  133. To give you an example,

  134. people suffer from psychological alienation

  135. within themselves.

  136. Anxiety, panic attacks, anorexia,

  137. bulimia, depression, bipolar disorder,

  138. gender dysphoria, schizophrenia.

  139. Our society is also plagued with social alienation,

  140. with other people.

  141. Everywhere we turn, we hear of wars

  142. and rumors of wars,

  143. of prejudice and injustice,

  144. of loneliness and isolation, of hatred.

  145. Our world also suffers from physical alienation.

  146. Nature is full of thorns,

  147. earthquakes, drops, droughts, and hurricanes.

  148. And our bodies succumb to various diseases,

  149. dementia, diabetes, COVID, migraines, cancer.

  150. All these dysfunctions, disorders,

  151. and alienations, psychological, social,

  152. and physical,

  153. they are all horizontal alienations

  154. that are symptoms of our vertical alienation from God.

  155. At first, when God created Adam and Eve,

  156. they enjoyed communion with God,

  157. fellowship with God,

  158. unbroken fellowship with God,

  159. and they lived in peace,

  160. in shalom, in wholeness.

  161. But when they sinned against God,

  162. they were expelled from His presence

  163. from the Garden of Eden

  164. because of their sin.

  165. And it's that vertical alienation

  166. that has produced all of this

  167. horizontal alienation.

  168. Alienation.

  169. As human beings,

  170. many of our jobs are working toward peace

  171. and order and health and community

  172. trying to fix this.

  173. But utopia is always out of reach

  174. because it can only be had

  175. when we have perfect union with

  176. and communion with the living God.

  177. We see in this passage

  178. a powerful evidence

  179. of God's ultimate plan

  180. to restore us

  181. into fellowship with Him.

  182. And this passage teaches us

  183. that the Lord makes the blood

  184. of the covenant with us

  185. so that we might have fellowship

  186. with Him.

  187. So we're going to look at first

  188. approaching the Lord,

  189. consecrating to the Lord,

  190. beholding the Lord,

  191. and finally dwelling

  192. with the Lord.

  193. Let's look at verses 1-2.

  194. Talk about approaching the Lord.

  195. Previously in Exodus 20,

  196. after God addressed all the Israelites

  197. and spoke the Ten Commandments

  198. over them,

  199. the people were so afraid

  200. that they asked Moses

  201. to please go up

  202. and speak to the Lord yourself

  203. and then relay what He says to us

  204. instead of having God

  205. speak directly to us

  206. because we might perish.

  207. So people asked Moses to do that.

  208. And so from Exodus 20, 22

  209. to 23, 33,

  210. all the words and rules

  211. were spoken directly by Yahweh

  212. to Moses

  213. and not to all of the Israelites

  214. with the expectation

  215. that Moses would then relay it

  216. to the rest of the Israelites.

  217. But briefly in chapter 24,

  218. verses 1-2,

  219. the Lord addresses Moses individually

  220. with this specific instruction.

  221. Come up to the Lord,

  222. you and Aaron,

  223. Nadab and Abihu,

  224. and 70 of the elders of Israel,

  225. and worship from afar.

  226. Moses alone shall come near to the Lord,

  227. but the others shall not come near,

  228. and the people shall not come up with him.

  229. So Moses,

  230. it's not uncommon for the Lord

  231. to speak in the third person

  232. referring to himself.

  233. He's a triune God.

  234. And so here,

  235. Moses and Aaron

  236. are invited to come up to the mountain

  237. along with Nadab and Abihu,

  238. two of Aaron's sons,

  239. and 70 of the elders of Israel

  240. who had some kind of governing role

  241. within Israel

  242. at this stage of their national life.

  243. But there is still a distance.

  244. Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu,

  245. and the 70 elders

  246. worship the Lord from afar,

  247. it says.

  248. Moses alone shall come near to the Lord.

  249. The others shall not come near.

  250. And there's still yet more distance

  251. for the rest of the people of God.

  252. They are not even to come up

  253. to the mountain.

  254. They are to remain

  255. at the foot of the mountain.

  256. So there are three tiers

  257. of intimacy with God here.

  258. Kind of like going to a theater.

  259. You guys have been to

  260. Broadway theater shows.

  261. You know,

  262. you have the orchestra seats

  263. right up front,

  264. and then you have the mezzanine seats

  265. slowly behind that and above,

  266. and then you've got

  267. the nosebleed seats

  268. in the,

  269. what do you call that,

  270. in the balcony.

  271. Yeah.

  272. And for that,

  273. it's really just a matter

  274. of how much money

  275. you can pay

  276. or are willing to pay,

  277. but this is something

  278. far deeper

  279. and significant than that.

  280. The people of Israel

  281. can worship

  282. only at the foot

  283. of the mountain.

  284. There's a distance

  285. that they cannot bridge.

  286. They offer sacrifices

  287. at the foot

  288. of the mountain

  289. to make atonement

  290. for sin.

  291. They may not come up.

  292. The soon-to-be priests,

  293. Aaron, Nadab,

  294. and Abihu,

  295. along with the 70 elders,

  296. can come up partway

  297. up the mountain,

  298. but they still must remain

  299. far away.

  300. They cannot come near

  301. to the Lord.

  302. This pattern

  303. of Mount Sinai,

  304. the three tiers

  305. of Mount Sinai,

  306. will be reflected later

  307. when Israelites

  308. build the tabernacle

  309. in the following chapters.

  310. In the tabernacle,

  311. the tent of God,

  312. there were three levels,

  313. were three sections.

  314. The outer court,

  315. where the people of God

  316. offered sacrifice

  317. and worshiped,

  318. and the tent proper,

  319. the tent of meeting,

  320. the tabernacle proper

  321. inside which the holy place

  322. that only the priests

  323. could enter.

  324. And even within that tent,

  325. there was a section

  326. cordoned off by a curtain,

  327. a veil,

  328. separating the holy place

  329. from the most holy place.

  330. And to the most holy place,

  331. only the high priest,

  332. the one high priest,

  333. could enter,

  334. and that only once a year

  335. on the Day of Atonement.

  336. So the tabernacle becomes

  337. a portable version

  338. of Mount Sinai,

  339. of God's dwelling place

  340. traveling with Israel

  341. through the wilderness

  342. and into the promised land.

  343. But why doesn't God

  344. just let everyone

  345. come up the mountain?

  346. Why does he have

  347. to be so exclusive?

  348. The enforced distance

  349. communicates God's holiness.

  350. As it says in Exodus 19, 20,

  351. the Lord came down

  352. on Mount Sinai,

  353. but Moses and Aaron

  354. and Erebe and Abihu,

  355. they have to go up

  356. the mountain to the Lord.

  357. Mount Sinai functions

  358. as a sort of middle ground

  359. between the Lord

  360. who dwells on high

  361. in the highest heavens

  362. and the people

  363. who dwell below.

  364. It's not that God

  365. physically lives

  366. in the heavens.

  367. He is spirit

  368. and he is omnipresent.

  369. He's in all places

  370. at all times.

  371. Yet this language

  372. of coming down

  373. and the people

  374. going up to meet him

  375. communicates the vast chasm

  376. that lies between them.

  377. There's a distance

  378. that they cannot bridge.

  379. Another way to say that

  380. is that God is holy,

  381. meaning set apart from us,

  382. consecrated, special, holy.

  383. To be holy,

  384. it's the opposite

  385. of being common.

  386. The fact that God is holy

  387. means that he is not like us.

  388. He's uncommon.

  389. He is set apart from us.

  390. And he's not just qualitatively

  391. or quantitatively different from us.

  392. He's not just a superlative

  393. version of man.

  394. He is quantitatively

  395. different from us.

  396. No matter how advanced

  397. or perfected

  398. our artificial intelligence gets,

  399. it will never be human.

  400. Likewise,

  401. no matter how advanced

  402. or perfected

  403. we human beings get,

  404. we will never be God.

  405. When prophet Isaiah

  406. and apostle John

  407. saw visions of the Lord,

  408. they both saw angels

  409. and creatures

  410. attending him,

  411. singing,

  412. holy,

  413. holy,

  414. holy.

  415. Our triune God

  416. is thrice holy,

  417. perfect in holiness.

  418. There's no one before him

  419. or after him,

  420. and there is none

  421. beside him.

  422. There's no peer.

  423. He has no peer or rival.

  424. He is unlike any other.

  425. That's what it means

  426. that God is set apart.

  427. He is holy.

  428. During college,

  429. I studied abroad

  430. for a year in England

  431. and used that year

  432. to travel on cheaply

  433. and visited dozens

  434. of art museums.

  435. I don't remember very much

  436. from the museums

  437. that I visited,

  438. but I do distinctly remember

  439. one place,

  440. and that was the Sistine Chapel

  441. inside Vatican City,

  442. famed for the murals

  443. painted by Michelangelo

  444. and the papal enclaves

  445. that take place there

  446. where the Catholic cardinals

  447. elect their new pope.

  448. And that visit stands out

  449. in my memory

  450. for a number of reasons.

  451. One is because

  452. they require absolute silence

  453. inside the chapel

  454. when you go in.

  455. And using mobile phones

  456. or taking photos

  457. is not allowed.

  458. They ban phones

  459. and cameras

  460. and impose silence

  461. because they want

  462. to convey the sense

  463. of sacredness

  464. of the space

  465. because the camera flash

  466. and the shutter sound

  467. going off constantly

  468. and tourists chattering

  469. all around the place

  470. would detract

  471. from the solemnity

  472. of the place.

  473. And it's very effective,

  474. this practice.

  475. As soon as you

  476. enter the chapel,

  477. a hush comes

  478. over the place.

  479. No one is distracted

  480. on their phones

  481. and everyone

  482. is standing in awe

  483. of the artistic masterpieces

  484. that surround you

  485. on the walls

  486. and on the ceiling.

  487. And the whole experience

  488. leaves an indelible impression.

  489. This is no common,

  490. ordinary place.

  491. It's a sacred space,

  492. set apart space.

  493. If the Sistine Chapel

  494. is set apart

  495. in its way,

  496. how much more

  497. Mount Sinai

  498. upon which Yahweh,

  499. the Holy One Himself,

  500. has personally descended.

  501. Sinai is a place

  502. like no other

  503. and the enforced distance

  504. communicates

  505. the holiness of God.

  506. But the distance

  507. is enforced

  508. not only to preserve

  509. the holiness of God

  510. but also to protect

  511. God's people.

  512. Habakkuk 1.13

  513. says that God

  514. is of purer eyes

  515. than to see evil

  516. and cannot look at wrong.

  517. The Lord dwells

  518. in unapproachable light

  519. before whom

  520. all our hidden sins

  521. are exposed,

  522. past, present,

  523. and future.

  524. Our Lord is often

  525. described as

  526. a consuming fire.

  527. The fire is useful,

  528. of course,

  529. in many ways.

  530. It kills bacteria

  531. and it makes

  532. certain foods edible.

  533. It burns up the dross

  534. and refines

  535. precious metals.

  536. But we have this saying

  537. for a reason,

  538. don't play with fire

  539. because fire is dangerous

  540. and it's foolish

  541. to play with it.

  542. Sinners

  543. who approach

  544. the Holy God

  545. perish.

  546. God is not

  547. someone to toy with.

  548. He is not someone

  549. we can push around

  550. or presume upon.

  551. And that's why

  552. in verse 11,

  553. Moses notes

  554. with some surprise

  555. that when he

  556. and Aaron

  557. and Nadab

  558. and Abihu

  559. and the 70 elders

  560. ascended the mountain

  561. partway

  562. and beheld God

  563. and ate

  564. and drank with him,

  565. he notes that

  566. Yahweh

  567. did not lay

  568. his hand

  569. on the chief men

  570. of the people of Israel.

  571. And that expression,

  572. laying his hands,

  573. refers to punishment

  574. and judgment.

  575. Because our Holy God

  576. cannot countenance sinners,

  577. his fiery judgment

  578. breaks out against sinners

  579. and consumes them.

  580. So it is remarkable

  581. that these men

  582. were not consumed

  583. and it's because

  584. of the blood

  585. of the covenant

  586. that they make

  587. with the Lord

  588. as we'll see shortly.

  589. The three tiers

  590. of nearness

  591. on Mount Sinai

  592. and the command

  593. to maintain a distance

  594. therefore serve

  595. to protect

  596. God's people

  597. from the wrath of God,

  598. from his holy justice.

  599. And that's precisely

  600. because Yahweh

  601. is holy

  602. and set apart

  603. and his people

  604. who wish to approach him

  605. must be consecrated.

  606. They themselves

  607. must be set apart

  608. for him.

  609. And that's what

  610. verses 3 to 8

  611. are speaking of.

  612. The Israelites

  613. are set apart

  614. for God

  615. by two things.

  616. One is the book

  617. of the covenant

  618. and the other

  619. is the blood

  620. of the covenant.

  621. And before we talk

  622. about those things,

  623. we need to understand

  624. what a covenant is

  625. and the covenant

  626. is a legally binding

  627. relationship

  628. confirmed with an oath.

  629. You can take

  630. various forms

  631. but the covenant

  632. between the Lord

  633. and his people

  634. most closely follow

  635. the model

  636. of ancient

  637. Near Eastern

  638. suzerain vassal treaties

  639. where a more powerful

  640. king,

  641. the Lord,

  642. the suzerain

  643. and a weaker king,

  644. the subject,

  645. the vassal

  646. enter into a covenant

  647. relationship

  648. with one another.

  649. And the weaker king

  650. pays tribute

  651. to the more powerful king

  652. and fulfills

  653. other obligations

  654. and the more powerful king

  655. makes certain promises

  656. and protects

  657. the weaker king

  658. from hostile powers.

  659. The Lord

  660. is the suzerain

  661. and his people

  662. are his vassals.

  663. And this covenantal

  664. relationship is marked

  665. like I said

  666. by two things,

  667. the book

  668. and the blood.

  669. First the book,

  670. it says in verse 3,

  671. Moses came and told

  672. the people

  673. all the words

  674. of the Lord

  675. and all the rules

  676. and all the people

  677. answered with one voice

  678. and said,

  679. all the words

  680. that the Lord

  681. has spoken

  682. we will do.

  683. Since the

  684. Ten Commandments

  685. were spoken

  686. directly by the Lord

  687. here to the people

  688. of Israel

  689. in chapter 20,

  690. those did not need

  691. to be relayed

  692. to the Israelites.

  693. So the words

  694. and rules

  695. being referred to here

  696. are likely

  697. what follows

  698. the Ten Commandments,

  699. the specific application

  700. of the Ten Commandments

  701. in chapter 20 to 23.

  702. All of these things

  703. that the Lord

  704. has spoken,

  705. they say,

  706. we will do.

  707. And then in verse 4,

  708. Moses writes down

  709. all the words

  710. of the Lord

  711. and compiles it

  712. into a book

  713. which becomes

  714. the book of the covenant.

  715. And on the next day

  716. in verse 7,

  717. he takes the book

  718. of the covenant

  719. and reads it

  720. in the hearing

  721. of the people.

  722. And after that,

  723. the people say again,

  724. all that the Lord

  725. has spoken,

  726. we will do

  727. and we will be obedient.

  728. This repetition

  729. of their

  730. voluntary commitment

  731. in allegiance

  732. to the word of God

  733. emphasizes the importance

  734. of the book

  735. of the covenant

  736. in defining the identity

  737. of God's people.

  738. Ever since then,

  739. God's people

  740. have been known

  741. as people

  742. of the book.

  743. We are not

  744. people of the times

  745. or people

  746. of the phone,

  747. but people

  748. of the book.

  749. In particular,

  750. we are people

  751. of this book,

  752. the word of God,

  753. because God

  754. governs his people

  755. by his word.

  756. Christianity

  757. is not merely

  758. about keeping the law.

  759. It's about

  760. a covenant relationship

  761. with God.

  762. You can tell

  763. whether or not

  764. a subject

  765. is loyal

  766. to his or her king

  767. by their obedience

  768. to his decree.

  769. Likewise,

  770. we can tell

  771. that God's people

  772. are loyal to God

  773. by their obedience

  774. to his word.

  775. It's our faith

  776. in and obedience

  777. to God's word

  778. that consecrates us,

  779. sets us apart

  780. from the world.

  781. This is how

  782. we are to be identified.

  783. Not by our

  784. political prowess,

  785. not by how many

  786. followers we have

  787. on social media,

  788. not by how

  789. in sync

  790. we are with

  791. the changing times

  792. or the world,

  793. but by our allegiance

  794. to God's unchanging word.

  795. That's how

  796. we are to be known

  797. as the people of God.

  798. If we do all

  799. that God has spoken,

  800. we will stand out.

  801. We will be set apart.

  802. God consecrates

  803. us to himself

  804. by his book.

  805. The second thing

  806. that God uses

  807. to consecrate us

  808. to himself

  809. is the blood.

  810. After writing down

  811. the book

  812. of the covenant,

  813. it says in

  814. verses 46,

  815. Moses rose

  816. early in the morning

  817. and built an altar

  818. at the foot

  819. of the mountain

  820. and 12 pillars

  821. according to the 12 tribes

  822. of Israel.

  823. And he sent

  824. young men

  825. of the people

  826. of Israel

  827. who offered

  828. burnt offerings

  829. and sacrificed

  830. peace offerings

  831. of oxen to the Lord.

  832. And Moses took

  833. half of the blood

  834. and put it in basins

  835. and half of the blood

  836. he threw it

  837. against the altar.

  838. And an altar

  839. is a place

  840. for worship

  841. and sacrifice

  842. and the 12 pillars

  843. represent the 12 tribes

  844. of Israel

  845. standing before

  846. the presence

  847. of God

  848. at the altar.

  849. After Moses

  850. builds the altar,

  851. some of the young men

  852. of the people

  853. of Israel

  854. offer burnt offerings

  855. and peace offerings

  856. to the Lord.

  857. Leviticus 1.9

  858. specifies that

  859. burnt offerings

  860. were some of the

  861. most costly

  862. kind of offerings

  863. because it involved

  864. burning the entire

  865. sacrificial animal.

  866. Burned completely

  867. as a pleasing aroma

  868. to God.

  869. It's dedicated

  870. completely to the Lord.

  871. So in that sense

  872. it served

  873. to represent

  874. God's people

  875. being wholly

  876. consecrated to the Lord.

  877. Belonging to Him

  878. and not to another.

  879. Wholly to Him.

  880. The peace offering

  881. was a little different.

  882. The peace offering

  883. the blood was poured out

  884. the sprinkle on the altar

  885. and then some of the organ

  886. and the fat

  887. of the animal

  888. were burned up

  889. as sacrifice to God.

  890. But the rest of the meat

  891. was eaten

  892. by the priests

  893. and by the worshippers

  894. who brought the sacrifice.

  895. It was a meal

  896. with God

  897. that celebrated

  898. their covenant

  899. fellowship with Him.

  900. But the blood

  901. of the animal

  902. was never to be consumed

  903. for as the Lord says

  904. in Leviticus 17.11

  905. the life of the flesh

  906. is in the blood

  907. and I've given it for you

  908. on the altar

  909. to make atonement

  910. for your souls.

  911. For it is the blood

  912. that makes atonement

  913. by the life.

  914. That's why

  915. in verse 6

  916. Moses throws

  917. half the blood

  918. onto the altar itself

  919. to consecrate it

  920. for its use

  921. in worship and sacrifice

  922. and then he takes

  923. the other half

  924. and then he throws it

  925. on the people.

  926. Similar to the way

  927. blood is placed

  928. on Aaron

  929. and on his sons

  930. in Leviticus 8

  931. when they are being

  932. ordained to the priesthood

  933. Moses sprinkles

  934. the blood

  935. on the people of God

  936. to atone

  937. for their sin

  938. to consecrate them

  939. to God

  940. and then he says

  941. to them

  942. behold the blood

  943. of the covenant

  944. that the Lord

  945. has made with you

  946. in accordance

  947. with all these words.

  948. We are

  949. as human beings

  950. sinful

  951. and for that reason

  952. we cannot dare

  953. to approach

  954. the holy God

  955. the consuming fire

  956. without making

  957. atonement for sin.

  958. We all fall short

  959. of the glory of God

  960. instead of living

  961. for him

  962. our creator

  963. we have lived

  964. for ourselves

  965. which is an act

  966. of treason

  967. prideful rebellion

  968. against God

  969. our very presence

  970. is contaminating

  971. and repulsive

  972. to a holy God

  973. and because

  974. the penalty

  975. for sin

  976. is death

  977. the price

  978. for atonement

  979. is life

  980. atonement

  981. requires

  982. bloodshed

  983. recalling

  984. this blood

  985. of the covenant

  986. in Hebrews 9

  987. 19 to 22

  988. the author says this

  989. for when every

  990. commandment of the law

  991. had been declared

  992. by Moses

  993. to all the people

  994. he took the blood

  995. of calves and goats

  996. with water

  997. and scarlet wool

  998. and hyssop

  999. and sprinkled

  1000. both the book itself

  1001. and all the people

  1002. saying

  1003. this is the blood

  1004. of the covenant

  1005. that God commanded

  1006. for you

1007. and in the same way

  1008. he sprinkled

  1009. with the blood

  1010. both the tent

  1011. and all the vessels

  1012. used in worship

  1013. indeed under the law

  1014. almost everything

  1015. is purified with blood

  1016. and without the shedding

  1017. of blood

  1018. there is no

  1019. forgiveness of sins

  1020. but of course

  1021. a mere animal

  1022. can make no atonement

1023. for the sins of man

  1024. these sacrifices

  1025. in the Old Testament

  1026. were but a shadow

  1027. that pointed

  1028. to the reality

  1029. of Jesus'

  1030. ultimate atoning

  1031. sacrifice

  1032. on the cross

  1033. when he establishes

  1034. the new covenant

  1035. with his people

  1036. and that same passage

  1037. in Hebrew

  1038. that I read

  1039. also says this

  1040. for if the blood

  1041. of goats and bulls

  1042. and the sprinkling

  1043. of defiled persons

  1044. with the ashes

  1045. of a heifer

  1046. sanctified for the purification

  1047. of the flesh

  1048. how much more

1049. will the blood of Christ

1050. who through the eternal spirit

  1051. offered himself

  1052. without blemish to God

  1053. purify our conscience

  1054. from dead works

1055. to serve the living God

  1056. the blood of Christ

  1057. is so effective

  1058. that he can purify

  1059. our consciences

1060. give us a clear conscience

  1061. knowing

  1062. that our sins

  1063. have been atoned for

  1064. that we really

  1065. have been cleansed

  1066. most of us

  1067. have sinned

  1068. and done wrong

1069. in ways that we are

  1070. ashamed to admit

  1071. sins that you committed

  1072. after peeking

  1073. over your shoulders

  1074. to make sure

  1075. no one is watching

  1076. sins that you

  1077. lower your voice

  1078. to share

  1079. during confession

  1080. because

  1081. you don't want anyone

  1082. to overhear it

1083. sins that make you feel

  1084. like people

  1085. would never

  1086. look at you

  1087. the same way

  1088. if only they knew

  1089. if that's the case

  1090. with sinful humans

  1091. how can we ever

  1092. lift our heads

1093. in the presence of God

  1094. who is unimpeachable

  1095. in his holiness

  1096. how can we ever

  1097. look at the face

  1098. of the holy God

  1099. what would he

  1100. think of our sins

  1101. but God does

  1102. know all

  1103. of our sins

  1104. and he has

  1105. made a way

  1106. for our cleansing

  1107. by sending

  1108. Jesus Christ

  1109. his son

  1110. as our substitute

  1111. to die the death

  1112. that we deserved

  1113. on the cross

  1114. and to be raised

  1115. to life again

  1116. as the lyrics

  1117. to the song

  1118. amazing love

  1119. puts it

  1120. I'm forgiven

  1121. because you

  1122. were forsaken

  1123. I'm accepted

  1124. you were condemned

  1125. I'm alive

  1126. and well

  1127. your spirit

  1128. is within me

  1129. because you

  1130. died

  1131. and rose

  1132. again

  1133. this is the power

  1134. of the gospel

  1135. that when we

  1136. renounce our sins

  1137. and bring them

  1138. to God

1139. in the light of God

  1140. the blood of Jesus

  1141. God's son

  1142. cleanses us

  1143. from all

  1144. sin

  1145. the blood

  1146. of Jesus

  1147. really

  1148. cleanses us

  1149. of our sins

  1150. the blood

  1151. of Jesus

  1152. really covers

  1153. our shame

  1154. the blood

  1155. of Jesus

  1156. really

  1157. consecrates

  1158. us

  1159. sets us

  1160. apart

  1161. so that

  1162. we might

  1163. have

  1164. fellowship

  1165. with God

  1166. so that

  1167. we can

  1168. draw near

  1169. to his

  1170. throne

  1171. so that

  1172. we can

  1173. look upon

  1174. his glorious

  1175. and gracious

  1176. face

  1177. that's what

  1178. this

  1179. consecrating

  1180. does

  1181. and we

  1182. continue to

  1183. progress here

  1184. in the mountain

  1185. after consecrating

  1186. to the Lord

  1187. Moses and Aaron

  1188. and Nadab

  1189. and Abihu

  1190. and the 70

  1191. elders

  1192. get to

  1193. behold

  1194. the Lord

  1195. it's an

  1196. amazing

  1197. verse

  1198. it says

  1199. in verse

  1200. 90

  1201. 11

  1202. that

  1203. Moses

  1204. and Aaron

  1205. and Nadab

  1206. and Abihu

  1207. and 70

  1208. of the elders

  1209. of Israel

  1210. went up

  1211. and they

  1212. saw

  1213. the God

  1214. of Israel

  1215. there was

  1216. under his

  1217. feet

  1218. as it were

  1219. a pavement

  1220. of sapphire

  1221. stone

  1222. like the very

  1223. heaven for

  1224. clearness

  1225. and he did

  1226. not lay his

  1227. hand on the

  1228. chief men

  1229. of the people

  1230. of Israel

  1231. they beheld

  1232. God

  1233. and ate

  1234. and drank

  1235. they got

  1236. to see

  1237. God

  1238. he says

  1239. that they

  1240. beheld

  1241. God

  1242. and ate

  1243. and drank

  1244. they are

  1245. sharing

  1246. the peace

  1247. offering

  1248. that they

  1249. had

  1250. offered

  1251. to God

  1252. sacrificed

  1253. to God

  1254. with him

  1255. eating

  1256. with him

  1257. and doing

  1258. table

  1259. fellowship

  1260. with him

  1261. this is

  1262. significant

  1263. I mean

  1264. even today

  1265. in our

  1266. modern world

  1267. where this

  1268. is far

  1269. less

  1270. significant

  1271. or emphasized

  1272. when you

  1273. have someone

  1274. over to your

  1275. house for a

  1276. meal

  1277. it signifies

  1278. a progression

  1279. in your

  1280. relationship

  1281. you've gone

  1282. beyond just

  1283. acquaintance

  1284. to acceptance

  1285. to friendship

  1286. even being

  1287. invited to be

  1288. a part

  1289. at least for

  1290. that time

  1291. to belong

  1292. to your

  1293. family

  1294. and that's

  1295. what

  1296. table

  1297. fellowship

  1298. in the

  1299. ancient

  1300. near east

  1301. represented

  1302. it means

  1303. you get

  1304. to belong

  1305. to the

  1306. same

  1307. family

  1308. you get

  1309. to share

  1310. life

  1311. together

  1312. when you

  1313. break

  1314. bread

  1315. together

  1316. when you

  1317. eat

  1318. together

  1319. so when

  1320. we speak

  1321. of here

  1322. these men

  1323. eating

  1324. with God

  1325. don't picture

  1326. in your

  1327. mind

  1328. going to

  1329. a restaurant

  1330. and everybody

  1331. ordering his

  1332. or her

  1333. separate dish

  1334. and then you're

  1335. just kind of

  1336. eating next

  1337. to each

  1338. other

  1339. imagine

  1340. inviting

  1341. someone

  1342. into your

  1343. home

  1344. a family

  1345. style meal

  1346. where you're

  1347. dipping into

  1348. the same

  1349. sauces

  1350. cutting meat

  1351. off of the

  1352. same

  1353. meat plate

  1354. and eating

  1355. together

  1356. and conversing

  1357. with one

  1358. another

  1359. Moses

  1360. and Aaron

  1361. and Nadab

  1362. and the

  1363. elders

  1364. got to do

  1365. that with

  1366. God

  1367. imagine

  1368. that with

  1369. me for a

  1370. minute

  1371. many of you

  1372. will share

  1373. a meal

  1374. together

  1375. after service

  1376. today

  1377. and many

  1378. of you

  1379. do that

  1380. throughout

  1381. the week

  1382. but imagine

  1383. if you could

  1384. invite

  1385. God

  1386. Yahweh

  1387. the Lord

  1388. over to

  1389. your house

  1390. for dinner

  1391. after church

  1392. today

  1393. what I would

  1394. prepare for

  1395. him

  1396. what I would

  1397. give to

  1398. just sit

  1399. there

  1400. listen to

  1401. him

  1402. it's almost

  1403. too much

  1404. overwhelming

  1405. just to

  1406. imagine

  1407. eating with

  1408. him

  1409. speaking

  1410. to him

  1411. but in

  1412. fact

  1413. that is

  1414. what we

  1415. get to

  1416. do

  1417. as a

  1418. people

  1419. of God

  1420. there's a

  1421. reason why

  1422. the Lord's

  1423. supper

  1424. is called

  1425. the Lord's

  1426. supper

  1427. it is the

  1428. Lord's

  1429. meal

  1430. the Lord

  1431. is the

  1432. host

  1433. presiding

  1434. over the

  1435. meal

  1436. Jesus

  1437. offered his

  1438. own body

  1439. as the

  1440. peace

  1441. offering

  1442. to

  1443. reconcile

  1444. us

  1445. sinful

  1446. people

  1447. to

  1448. God

  1449. the

  1450. father

  1451. and

  1452. he

  1453. offers

  1454. himself

  1455. for

  1456. our

  1457. spiritual

  1458. nourishment

  1459. his

  1460. body

  1461. broken

  1462. for us

  1463. like bread

  1464. his

  1465. blood

  1466. poured

  1467. out

  1468. for us

  1469. like

  1470. wine

  1471. so that

  1472. we

  1473. can

  1474. enjoy

  1475. eternal

  1476. fellowship

  1477. with

  1478. God

  1479. God

  1480. this

  1481. is not

  1482. an

  1483. empty

  1484. ritual

  1485. we

  1486. come

  1487. to

  1488. it

  1489. and

  1490. experience

  1491. it

  1492. as a

  1493. foretaste

  1494. of the

  1495. eternal

  1496. fellowship

  1497. we have

  1498. with God

  1499. and we

  1500. dine

  1501. with him

  1502. that's

  1503. why

  1504. Jesus

  1505. in his

  1506. parables

  1507. often

  1508. uses

  1509. the

  1510. metaphor

  1511. of

  1512. the

  1513. banquet

  1514. referred

  1515. to

  1516. the

  1517. kingdom

  1518. of

  1519. God

  1520. in

  1521. Luke

  1522. 14

  1523. for

  1524. example

  1525. in

  1526. Revelation

  1527. 99

  1528. teaches

  1529. us

  1530. that

  1531. all

  1532. Christians

  1533. should

  1534. look

  1535. forward

  1536. to

  1537. the

  1538. marriage

  1539. supper

  1540. of

  1541. the

  1542. lamb

  1543. of

  1544. God

  1545. the

  1546. elders

  1547. and

  1548. Moses

  1549. Aaron

  1550. their

  1551. meal

  1552. with

  1553. God

  1554. here

  1555. is

  1556. foreshadowing

  1557. that

  1558. eternal

  1559. heavenly

  1560. banquet

  1561. we're

  1562. gonna

  1563. get

  1564. to

  1565. feast

  1566. with

  1567. God

  1568. forever

  1569. and

  1570. the

  1571. Lord's

  1572. supper

  1573. which

  1574. we

  1575. celebrate

  1576. every

  1577. week

  1578. he

  1579. is

  1580. an

  1581. earthly

  1582. foretaste

  1583. of

  1584. the

  1585. heavenly

  1586. reality

  1587. Moses

  1588. and

  1589. Aaron

  1590. and

  1591. Nadab

  1592. and

  1593. Abihu

  1594. and

  1595. the

  1596. 70

  1597. elders

  1598. got

  1599. to

  1600. enjoy

  1601. this

  1602. unspeakable

  1603. privilege

  1604. but

  1605. they

  1606. didn't

  1607. get

  1608. to

  1609. behold

  1610. God

  1611. in

  1612. his

  1613. fullness

  1614. because

  1615. that

  1616. time

  1617. has

  1618. not

  1619. yet

  1620. come

  1621. though

  1622. it

  1623. says

  1624. that

  1625. they

  1626. saw

  1627. the

  1628. God

  1629. of

  1630. Israel

  1631. when

  1632. Moses

  1633. actually

  1634. starts

  1635. describing

  1636. exactly

  1637. what

  1638. he

  1639. saw

  1640. he

  1641. starts

  1642. describing

  1643. what

  1644. was

  1645. under

  1646. his

  1647. feet

  1648. even

  1649. Moses

  1650. after

  1651. he

  1652. ascends

  1653. further

  1654. up

  1655. the

  1656. mountain

  1657. does

  1658. not

  1659. get

  1660. to

  1661. behold

  1662. God

  1663. in

  1664. his

  1665. fullness

  1666. which

  1667. is

  1668. why

  1669. later

  1670. in

  1671. Exodus

  1672. 33

  1673. he

  1674. asks

  1675. God

  1676. to

  1677. reveal

  1678. more

  1679. of

  1680. him

  1681. he

  1682. asks

  1683. God

  1684. show

  1685. me

  1686. your

  1687. glory

  1688. and

  1689. then

  1690. God

  1691. tells

  1692. him

  1693. you

  1694. cannot

  1695. see

  1696. my

  1697. face

  1698. for

  1699. man

  1700. shall

  1701. not

  1702. see

  1703. me

  1704. and

  1705. live

  1706. because

  1707. he's

  1708. too

  1709. holy

  1710. too

  1711. glorious

  1712. these

  1713. verses

  1714. are not

  1715. contradictory

  1716. Moses

  1717. really

  1718. did

  1719. see

  1720. God

  1721. in

  1722. some

  1723. sense

  1724. but

  1725. he

  1726. did

  1727. not

  1728. see

  1729. God's

  1730. fullness

  1731. he

  1732. did

  1733. not

  1734. see

  1735. God's

  1736. face

  1737. he

  1738. saw

  1739. what

  1740. was

  1741. under

  1742. God's

  1743. feet

  1744. and

  1745. that's

  1746. anthropomorphism

  1747. of course

  1748. giving human

  1749. characteristics

  1750. to God

  1751. so that

  1752. we can

  1753. understand

  1754. it

  1755. and

  1756. relate

  1757. to

  1758. it

  1759. and

  1760. look at

  1761. this

  1762. even

  1763. that

  1764. experience

  1765. looking at

  1766. what's

  1767. under

  1768. God's

  1769. feet

  1770. is

  1771. so

  1772. dazzling

  1773. that

  1774. it's

  1775. beyond

  1776. description

  1777. it says

  1778. there was

  1779. under

  1780. his

  1781. feet

  1782. as

  1783. it

  1784. were

  1785. a

  1786. pavement

  1787. of

  1788. sapphire

  1789. stone

  1790. like

  1791. the

  1792. very

  1793. heaven

  1794. for

  1795. clearness

  1796. anybody

  1797. understand

  1798. what

  1799. that

  1800. means

  1801. I

  1802. don't

  1803. it

  1804. doesn't

  1805. make

  1806. sense

  1807. you

  1808. can't

  1809. really

  1810. imagine

  1811. it

  1812. because

  1813. it's

  1814. beyond

  1815. description

  1816. every

  1817. time

  1818. the

  1819. prophets

  1820. have

  1821. a

  1822. glorious

  1823. vision

  1824. of

  1825. God

  1826. like

  1827. this

  1828. they

  1829. always

  1830. resort

  1831. to

  1832. comparison

  1833. it

  1834. was

  1835. like

  1836. this

  1837. it

  1838. was

  1839. like

  1840. that

  1841. it

  1842. was

  1843. as

  1844. it

  1845. were

  1846. like

  1847. this

  1848. they

  1849. used

  1850. comparison

  1851. because

  1852. there's

  1853. nothing

  1854. in

  1855. their

  1856. real

  1857. life

  1858. experience

  1859. that

  1860. they

  1861. can

  1862. point

  1863. to

  1864. and

  1865. say

  1866. that's

  1867. it

  1868. it

  1869. was

  1870. this

  1871. thing

  1872. it

  1873. was

  1874. that

  1875. thing

  1876. they

  1877. can't

  1878. say

  1879. that

  1880. it's

  1881. not

  1882. unlike

  1883. anything

  1884. they

  1885. have

  1886. seen

  1887. before

  1888. so

  1889. they

  1890. can

  1891. only

  1892. compare

  1893. it

  1894. it's

  1895. kind

  1896. of

  1897. like

  1898. that

  1899. it's

  1900. like

  1901. this

  1902. it's

  1903. so

  1904. glorious

  1905. and

  1906. beautiful

  1907. they

  1908. can't

  1909. they

  1910. have

  1911. no

  1912. words

  1913. for

  1914. it

  1915. and

  1916. after

  1917. that

  1918. meal

  1919. Moses

  1920. gets

  1921. to

  1922. ascend

  1923. even

  1924. further

  1925. he

  1926. appoints

  1927. Aaron

  1928. and her

  1929. as

  1930. stand-in

  1931. judges

  1932. to take

  1933. his place

  1934. during his

  1935. absence

  1936. to decide

  1937. disputes

  1938. among the

  1939. people of

  1940. God

  1941. and he

  1942. goes up

  1943. further up

  1944. and further

  1945. in

  1946. drawing

  1947. near to

  1948. God

  1949. and there

  1950. Moses

  1951. is to

  1952. receive

  1953. the tablets

  1954. of stone

  1955. with the

  1956. law

  1957. and the

  1958. commandment

  1959. as it

  1960. says

  1961. in

  1962. verse

  1963. 12

  1964. we

  1965. know

  1966. that

  1967. according

  1968. to

  1969. Deuteronomy

  1970. 4

  1971. 13

  1972. the

  1973. tablets

  1974. contain

  1975. the

  1976. Ten

  1977. Commandments

  1978. so

  1979. Moses

  1980. himself

  1981. wrote

  1982. down

  1983. the

  1984. book

  1985. of

  1986. the

  1987. covenant

  1988. which

  1989. followed

  1990. the

  1991. Ten

  1992. Commandments

  1993. but

  1994. it's

  1995. God

  1996. himself

  1997. who

  1998. inscribes

  1999. in stone

  2000. the Ten

  2001. Commandments

  2002. for the

  2003. Israelites

  2004. to keep

  2005. when

  2006. Moses

  2007. ascends

  2008. the

  2009. mountain

  2010. it

  2011. says

  2012. in

  2013. verses

  2014. 15

  2015. and

  2016. 17

  2017. that

  2018. the

  2019. cloud

  2020. covered

  2021. the

  2022. mountain

  2023. wealth

  2024. on

  2025. Mount

  2026. Sinai

  2027. and

  2028. the

  2029. cloud

  2030. covered

  2031. it

  2032. six

  2033. days

  2034. and

  2035. on

  2036. the

  2037. seventh

  2038. day

  2039. he

  2040. called

  2041. to

  2042. Moses

  2043. out

  2044. of

  2045. the

  2046. midst

  2047. of

  2048. the

  2049. cloud

  2050. now

  2051. the

  2052. appearance

  2053. of

  2054. the

  2055. glory

  2056. of

  2057. the

  2058. Lord

  2059. was

  2060. like

  2061. a

  2062. devouring

  2063. fire

  2064. on

  2065. the

  2066. top

  2067. of

  2068. the

  2069. mountain

  2070. in

  2071. the

  2072. sight

  2073. of

  2074. the

  2075. people

  2076. of

  2077. Israel

  2078. I

  2079. think

  2080. most of

  2081. you guys

  2082. are

  2083. aware

  2084. when

  2085. God

  2086. first

  2087. created

  2088. the

  2089. world

  2090. in

  2091. Genesis

  2092. 1

  2093. he

  2094. created

  2095. in

  2096. six

  2097. days

  2098. and

  2099. on

  2100. the

  2101. seventh

  2102. day

  2103. he

  2104. rested

  2105. so

  2106. this

  2107. seems

  2108. to

  2109. be

  2110. following

  2111. that

  2112. pattern

  2113. here

  2114. God

  2115. displays

  2116. his

  2117. glory

  2118. but

  2119. does

  2120. not

  2121. speak

  2122. does

  2123. not

  2124. reveal

  2125. himself

  2126. that

  2127. way

  2128. to

  2129. Moses

  2130. for

  2131. six

  2132. days

  2133. Moses

  2134. must

  2135. wait

  2136. for

  2137. six

  2138. days

  2139. and

  2140. it's

  2141. on

  2142. the

  2143. seventh

  2144. day

  2145. that

  2146. God

  2147. begins

  2148. to

  2149. speak

  2150. to

  2151. Moses

  2152. this

  2153. and

  2154. he

  2155. says

  2156. that

  2157. he

  2158. was

  2159. like

  2160. a

  2161. devouring

  2162. fire

  2163. on

  2164. the

  2165. top

  2166. of

  2167. the

  2168. mountain

  2169. the

  2170. cloud

  2171. covered

  2172. the

  2173. mountain

  2174. and

  2175. it

  2176. says

  2177. the

  2178. Lord

  2179. dwelt

  2180. on

  2181. Mount

  2182. Sinai

  2183. that's

  2184. the

  2185. end

  2186. game

  2187. of

  2188. God's

  2189. salvation

  2190. plan

  2191. for

  2192. his

  2193. people

  2194. to

  2195. dwell

  2196. among

  2197. his

  2198. people

  2199. and

  2200. Moses

  2201. getting

  2202. a

  2203. glimpse

  2204. of

  2205. that

  2206. Moses

  2207. had

  2208. unparalleled

  2209. privileged

  2210. access

  2211. to

  2212. God

  2213. for

  2214. his

  2215. time

  2216. in

  2217. the

  2218. old

  2219. covenant

  2220. but

  2221. as

  2222. I

  2223. mentioned

  2224. earlier

  2225. even

  2226. he

  2227. did

  2228. not

  2229. see

  2230. the

  2231. fullness

  2232. of

  2233. God's

  2234. glory

  2235. as

  2236. we

  2237. see

  2238. later

  2239. in

  2240. Exodus

  2241. 33

  2242. but

  2243. God

  2244. does

  2245. send

  2246. someone

  2247. later

  2248. on

  2249. his

  2250. son

  2251. Jesus

  2252. according

  2253. to

  2254. Colossians

  2255. 2

  2256. 9

  2257. Jesus

  2258. in

  2259. him

  2260. the

  2261. whole

  2262. fullness

  2263. of

  2264. deity

  2265. dwells

  2266. bodily

  2267. Colossians

  2268. 3

  2269. 15

  2270. tells

  2271. that

  2272. Jesus

  2273. is

  2274. the

  2275. image

  2276. of

  2277. the

  2278. invisible

  2279. God

  2280. for

  2281. most

  2282. of

  2283. his

  2284. time

  2285. on

  2286. earth

  2287. Jesus

  2288. divine

  2289. glory

  2290. was

  2291. veiled

  2292. but

  2293. in

  2294. Matthew

  2295. 17

  2296. when

  2297. Jesus

  2298. ascends

  2299. a

  2300. mountain

  2301. with

  2302. a few

  2303. of

  2304. his

  2305. disciples

  2306. there

  2307. the

  2308. Lord

  2309. God

  2310. appears

  2311. again

  2312. in

  2313. clouds

  2314. of

  2315. glory

  2316. and

  2317. Jesus

  2318. he's

  2319. suddenly

  2320. transfigured

  2321. transformed

  2322. in his

  2323. appearance

  2324. before

  2325. them

  2326. and

  2327. God

  2328. the

  2329. father

  2330. reveals

  2331. the

  2332. son's

  2333. divine

  2334. glory

  2335. in that

  2336. instance

  2337. and

  2338. then

  2339. he

  2340. speaks

  2341. again

  2342. like

  2343. he

  2344. does

  2345. here

  2346. on

  2347. this

  2348. mountain

  2349. but

  2350. that

  2351. time

  2352. God

  2353. says

  2354. this

  2355. this

  2356. is

  2357. my

  2358. beloved

  2359. son

  2360. with

  2361. whom

  2362. I

  2363. am

  2364. well

  2365. pleased

  2366. listen

  2367. to

  2368. him

  2369. Jesus

  2370. is

  2371. the

  2372. fulfillment

  2373. of

  2374. what

  2375. Moses

  2376. encounter

  2377. with

  2378. God

  2379. foreshadowed

  2380. and

  2381. pointed

  2382. to

  2383. and

  2384. it's

  2385. when

  2386. we

  2387. behold

  2388. the

  2389. glory

  2390. of

  2391. the

  2392. Lord

  2393. in

  2394. the

  2395. face

  2396. of

  2397. Jesus

  2398. Christ

  2399. that

  2400. we

  2401. are

  2402. transformed

  2403. into

  2404. the

  2405. same

  2406. image

  2407. from

  2408. one

  2409. glory

  2410. one

  2411. degree

  2412. of glory

  2413. to

  2414. another

  2415. having

  2416. atoned

  2417. for

  2418. our

  2419. sins

  2420. on

  2421. the

  2422. cross

  2423. and

  2424. having

  2425. been

  2426. raised

  2427. from

  2428. the

  2429. dead

  2430. Jesus

  2431. has

  2432. ascended

  2433. to

  2434. the

  2435. heavens

  2436. to

  2437. the

  2438. right

  2439. hand

  2440. of

  2441. God

  2442. the

  2443. father

  2444. but

  2445. he

  2446. is

  2447. coming

  2448. back

  2449. for

  2450. now

  2451. 1st

  2452. Corinthians

  2453. 13

  2454. 12

  2455. tells us

  2456. we see

  2457. in a

  2458. mirror

  2459. dimly

  2460. but

  2461. then

  2462. face

  2463. to

  2464. face

  2465. now

  2466. I

  2467. know

  2468. in

  2469. part

  2470. then

  2471. I

  2472. shall

  2473. know

  2474. fully

  2475. even

  2476. as

  2477. I

  2478. have

  2479. been

  2480. fully

  2481. known

  2482. presently

  2483. right now

  2484. in our

  2485. day and

  2486. age

  2487. we see

  2488. dimly

  2489. we see

  2490. God

  2491. dimly

  2492. only a

  2493. reflection

  2494. in a

  2495. mirror

  2496. but one

  2497. day we

  2498. will see

  2499. Jesus

  2500. face to

  2501. face

  2502. Revelation

  2503. 21

  2504. speaks of

  2505. that day

  2506. when Christ

  2507. will return

  2508. and bring

  2509. the new

  2510. heavens and

  2511. the new

  2512. earth

  2513. down to

  2514. us to

  2515. dwell

  2516. with us

  2517. bodily

  2518. forever

  2519. and

  2520. it

  2521. says

  2522. this

  2523. behold

  2524. the

  2525. dwelling

  2526. place

  2527. of

  2528. God

  2529. is

  2530. with

  2531. man

  2532. he

  2533. will

  2534. dwell

  2535. with

  2536. them

  2537. and

  2538. they

  2539. will

  2540. be

  2541. his

  2542. people

  2543. and

  2544. God

  2545. himself

  2546. will

  2547. be

  2548. with

  2549. them

  2550. as

  2551. their

  2552. God

  2553. he

  2554. will

  2555. wipe

  2556. away

  2557. every

  2558. tear

  2559. from

  2560. their

  2561. eyes

  2562. and

  2563. death

  2564. shall

  2565. be

  2566. no

  2567. more

  2568. neither

  2569. shall

  2570. there

  2571. be

  2572. mourning

  2573. nor

  2574. crying

  2575. nor

  2576. pain

  2577. anymore

  2578. for

  2579. the

  2580. former

  2581. things

  2582. have

  2583. passed

  2584. away

  2585. it's

  2586. then

  2587. we

  2588. shall

  2589. know

  2590. fully

  2591. it's

  2592. then

  2593. we

  2594. shall

  2595. see

  2596. face

  2597. to

  2598. face

  2599. it's

  2600. then

  2601. all

  2602. our

  2603. questions

  2604. will

  2605. be

  2606. answered

  2607. it's

  2608. then

  2609. when

  2610. all

  2611. our

  2612. sins

  2613. will

  2614. be

  2615. behind

  2616. us

  2617. no

  2618. more

  2619. to

  2620. hide

  2621. the

  2622. face

  2623. of

  2624. God

  2625. so

  2626. brothers

  2627. and sisters

  2628. let us

  2629. look

  2630. to the

  2631. face

  2632. of

  2633. our

  2634. Lord

  2635. Jesus

  2636. Christ

  2637. who

  2638. makes

  2639. the

  2640. blood

  2641. of

  2642. the

  2643. covenant

  2644. with

  2645. us

  2646. so

  2647. that

  2648. we

  2649. might

  2650. have

  2651. fellowship

  2652. with

  2653. him

  2654. let's

  2655. pray

  2656. father

  2657. it is

  2658. beyond

  2659. our

  2660. beyond

  2661. the

  2662. power

  2663. of

  2664. our

  2665. reason

  2666. to

  2667. understand

  2668. why

  2669. why

  2670. you

  2671. the

  2672. holy

  2673. god

  2674. would

  2675. want

  2676. to

  2677. dwell

  2678. with

  2679. us

  2680. why

  2681. you

  2682. would

  2683. set

  2684. apart

  2685. choose

  2686. and set

  2687. apart

  2688. sinners

  2689. like

  2690. us

  2691. to

  2692. redeem

  2693. us

  2694. to

  2695. make

  2696. us

  2697. your

  2698. own

  2699. and

  2700. to

  2701. dwell

  2702. with

  2703. us

  2704. but

  2705. father

  2706. we

  2707. thank

  2708. you

  2709. we

  2710. love

  2711. your

  2712. presence

  2713. we

  2714. love

  2715. your

  2716. holy

  2717. spirit

  2718. indwelling

  2719. us

  2720. given

  2721. to

  2722. us

  2723. as

  2724. the

  2725. down

  2726. payment

  2727. of

  2728. the

  2729. fullness

  2730. of

  2731. glory

  2732. we'll

  2733. receive

  2734. in

  2735. the

  2736. future

  2737. and

  2738. lord

  2739. we

  2740. long

  2741. for

  2742. that

  2743. day

  2744. we

  2745. long

  2746. for

  2747. it

  2748. help

  2749. us

  2750. to

  2751. persevere

  2752. till

  2753. that

  2754. day

  2755. looking

  2756. to

  2757. the

  2758. face

  2759. of

  2760. our

  2761. lord

  2762. jesus

  2763. christ

  2764. it's

  2765. in

  2766. his

  2767. precious

  2768. name

  2769. we

  2770. pray

  2771. amen
