  1. Anybody had enough of the ladybugs

  2. beside me?

  3. My shop back full of those things.

  4. Anyway, I digress. Good morning.

  5. Open your Bibles. We've been going

  6. through

  7. a new series

  8. on sound doctrine.

  9. Open your Bibles to the book of Numbers

  10. if you would.

  11. been looking at the

  12. the Holy Spirit in the Old Testament.

  13. And

  14. last week we were looking at

  15. three primary

  16. areas in the Old Testament where we see

  17. the Holy Spirit

  18. uh in creation. We looked at that

  19. chapter one of Genesis there. The

  20. spirits, the spirit moved on the waters

  21. and where the Bible says

  22. gave a title to the spirit and gave a

  23. title to God

  24. there in the Hebrews. So we have things

  25. like that in the Old Testament where we

  26. see God involved in creation.

  27. He made uh he made this world out of uh

  28. it wasn't chaos, but

  29. God made order out of disorder

  30. in creation. He did it with his spirit.

  31. And that same creator in Genesis chapter

    Genesis 1 chapter mention

  32. 1, he's the comforter in John chapter

    John 16 chapter mention

  33. 16. And we're going to try and stay in

  34. the Old Testament today. But as well, I

  35. want to refer to some of those things

  36. that we've learned already. The creator,

  37. the comforter.

  38. We have places in the Bible where the

  39. Godhead dresses each other.

  40. And we have what they say and what they

  41. said.

  42. So the Godhead, we must believe in the

  43. Trinity. We we talked about that. You

  44. know, that's a doctrine that we we must

  45. believe in if we're going to understand

  46. the word of God

  47. and what it has to say.

  48. And there's one God yet he's here in the

  49. word of God in three different distinct

  50. persons with personalities.

  51. People have personalities. We know Mary,

  52. the mother of Jesus. We know her

  53. personality. We don't just know her

  54. name. We know a lot about Mary

  55. and so it is with the characters of the

  56. Bible that David and for for example and

  57. Paul Peter and many others. We know

  58. their names but we know their

  59. personalities as well.

  60. So the Bible reveals to us the

  61. personalities of the Godhead. God the

  62. father, God the son, and God the holy

  63. spirit.

  64. And you know the Bible is progressive

  65. in um its revelations.

  66. You know we start out in Genesis chapter

    Genesis 3 chapter mention

  67. 3.

  68. Remember back there we had the first

  69. mention of Jesus. You know there in the

  70. first book of the Bible where God said

  71. he was going to send

  72. somebody to crush the head of the

  73. serpent.

  74. And God did much more than that, didn't

  75. he? So we we take the Bible as a whole.

  76. We take the book of Genesis. We take the

  77. book of Revelation. We take everything

  78. in between.

  79. But at the same time, we try to take a

  80. systematic approach to to God and to the

  81. word of God. You know, it's a waste of

  82. time if we don't believe the Bible is

  83. the word of God. If we think it's a

  84. fairy tale or filled with errors or

  85. whatever some of the modern thought is

  86. about the word of God, if we take that

  87. approach, you know, then we we're

  88. wasting our time. And that's not our

  89. approach. We believe everything this

  90. book has to say, regardless of how

  91. difficult it may be. Even if we can't

  92. understand it all, we say amen to what

  93. God has said in here. So the Bible just

  94. comes to us with with who God is and and

  95. what God has done and and our faith lays

  96. hold of these things in the word of God.

  97. And we have we have the three persons of

  98. the Trinity. We have the God the Father.

  99. He has a distinct personality. We have

  100. God the Son. He has a distinct

  101. personality. And we have the spirit of

  102. God as well. The Holy Spirit in the New

  103. Testament and the spirit of God here in

  104. the Old Testament.

  105. And you know we see things that tell us

  106. that he is a person because you know he

  107. can be grieved, he can be you know

  108. quenched and all those things the New

  109. Testament has to say about the Holy

  110. Spirit. So he's a person you know that

  111. can be uh grieved.

  112. So this person then is you know he's not

  113. God is not like us. Remember he said

  114. that you know. So when we think of God,

  115. we don't want to think that God is like

  116. us. He's not. That's what the Bible says

  117. over and over and over again. So we have

  118. to realize there's somebody in here

  119. that's greater than us and somebody

  120. that's over creation

  121. and the things that we saw back in

  122. Genesis. So you guys are sitting there

  123. in Numbers and I'm on my way there.

  124. Numbers chapter 11

    Numbers 11:17

  125. verse 17.

  126. So we saw the last time we were together

  127. we primarily looked at the the spirit in

  128. creation and the spirit

  129. um upon the Messiah. We had so many

  130. verses where you know the the Messiah

  131. was going the spirit of God was going to

  132. come and rest upon the Messiah and help

  133. him with his with his mission. So the

  134. spirit of God, he's holy, he's divine

  135. like the other members of the Trinity.

  136. And we remember what happened back in

  137. Genesis with creation, the power of God.

  138. So, you know, the spirit of God has all

  139. those great attributes, you know, and

  140. he's a member of the Godhead. We saw

  141. that

  142. we have God the Father, God the Son, and

  143. God the Holy Spirit. And, you know, God

  144. is supreme. There's nobody greater than

  145. God. And, you know, at some point in

  146. this study, we'll get into the the

  147. attributes of God.

  148. and and our our theology needs to be

  149. systematic. As I mentioned earlier, what

  150. good is it to have? If you don't believe

  151. the Bible's the Bible, then why waste

  152. your time trying to believe it and

  153. understand it? But if you get in here

  154. and believe it and understand it, then

  155. we can see that God is who he says he

  156. is, you know, and he and that's what he

  157. said. Who are you going to compare me

  158. with? And there is no one that we can

  159. compare to God. and he reveals himself

  160. to us in the Psalms and and so many

  161. other places. And that's what Jesus told

  162. the the folks on the road to Emmas. He

  163. went into the Old Testament and showed

  164. them where he was in the Old Testament.

  165. Well, here we see in the book of

  166. Numbers, we see that the Holy Spirit is

  167. here. And um we saw him at creation. Now

  168. we're going to see him. We saw him with

  169. with Christ, with the Messiah. And now

  170. we're going to see the Holy Spirit

  171. working with with the children of God,

  172. you know, and and primarily the Jewish

  173. nation

  174. um and the men of the Jewish nation. And

  175. here in chapter 11 of verse 17,

  176. he says, "And I will come down and I

  177. will talk with thee, and I will take the

  178. spirit

  179. uh which is upon thee, and I will put it

  180. upon them, and they shall bear the

  181. burden of the people with thee, and thou

  182. shalt bear not thyself alone." So, we

  183. can see that God sent his spirit to help

  184. with with great burdens

  185. uh here in the Old Testament. Turn over

  186. to Numbers 14.

  187. Got a few here in the book of Numbers,

    Numbers 14 chapter mention

  188. chapter 14

  189. and verse 24.

  190. Numbers 14:24. my servant

    Numbers 14:24

  191. Caleb. You know, that's that's who God

  192. sent his spirit upon in the Old

  193. Testament. Those who were who were

  194. servants. I know we that's not a grand

  195. title, you know, especially in the world

  196. that we live in, but in the word of God,

  197. that is a grand title. If you're a

  198. servant of God, that's there's nothing

  199. better than that. And here we see Caleb

  200. and and he says, "I will put another

  201. spirit within him." That's the Holy

  202. Spirit. Uh and and has followed me

  203. fully. Him I will bring into the land

  204. wherein to he went and his seeds shall

  205. possess it. So we see God the Holy

  206. Spirit um coming upon the servants and

  207. leading them and directing them and

  208. helping them uh to accomplish God's

  209. will.

  210. And in numbers 27,

  211. Numbers 27:18,

    Numbers 27:18

  212. we have another example

  213. of this. And the Lord said unto Moses,

  214. take unto thee Joshua, the son of Nun, a

  215. man in whom is the Spirit,

  216. and lay your hands upon him. So we see

  217. here God the Holy Spirit again working

  218. here with Joshua and Moses and back

  219. there with Caleb. So we see an example

  220. here God sending his spirit individually

  221. on these men uh to help them

  222. accomplish tasks like you know teaching

  223. and understanding and guiding and

  224. knowing what to do. Turn to 1st Samuel

  225. chapter 10.

  226. 1 Samuel

    1 Samuel 10:6

  227. chapter 10

  228. verse 6. 1 Samuel 10

  229. and verse 6 he says and the spirit of

  230. the Lord will come upon thee and thou

  231. shalt prophesy unto them and be turned

  232. into another man. So the spirit of God

  233. again was there on the prophets so that

  234. they would know the word of God and that

  235. they would know uh the will of God.

  236. And turn to Nehemiah chapter 9.

    Nehemiah 9 chapter mention

  237. Nehemiah chapter 9.

    Nehemiah 9 chapter mention

  238. And

  239. verse 20, Nehemiah

    Nehemiah 9:20

  240. 9 verse 20

  241. here, thou gave us also thy good spirit

  242. to instruct them. So again, the spirit's

  243. called good. And we see that this the

  244. spirit is instructing them, helping

  245. them, you know, understand God's will,

  246. who God is, and what God had done for.

  247. And here's one I like. Turn to Psalm 51.

  248. Psalm 51.

  249. And this is David. This is the one that

  250. people take out of context and

  251. misunderstand.

  252. This is where, you know, David

  253. confessed his sin

  254. um

  255. to God

  256. concerning Basheba.

  257. And this is a really, really good psalm

  258. to see David just pour out his heart

  259. before God after he had been involved in

  260. this.

  261. And there's a lot of good a lot of good

  262. verses in here, but I want to zero in on

  263. verse 10

  264. where he he's going to say in verse 11,

  265. we'll get that in a second. Take not

  266. your Holy Spirit from me. And what the,

  267. you know, the reason that David wanted

  268. the Holy Spirit, look what he says in

  269. verse 10. He says, "Create in me a clean

  270. heart, oh God, and renew a right spirit

  271. within me." So without God, without the

  272. Holy Spirit, we can't have a clean

  273. heart. Without the Holy Spirit, we

  274. cannot have our our spirits, you know,

  275. renewed.

  276. So with that, we do we can and David

  277. did. And and God restored him. That's

  278. what he says in verse 12. Restore unto

  279. me the joy of my salvation, and uphold

  280. me with a willing spirit, and then I

  281. will teach transgressors thy way, and

  282. sinners shall be uh converted unto unto

  283. thee. Deliver me from blood guiltness,

  284. oh God. Thou God of my salvation. My

  285. tongue shall sing aloud

  286. of your righteousness. Oh Lord, open you

  287. thou my lips and my mouth shall show

  288. forth your praise. For you desire

  289. sacrifice.

  290. You desire not sacrifice or else I would

  291. have given it. You delight not in burnt

  292. offerings. Sacrifices of God are a

  293. broken spirit

  294. um and a broken and contrite heart. Oh

  295. God, you will not despise. How did David

  296. get there? You know, how did David get

  297. to where he could repent? How could

  298. David get to where he could confess his

  299. sin? And and how could David get to the

  300. point to where he was restored, you

  301. know, from those things? And the Holy

  302. Spirit's there for us to help us when we

  303. sin and when we we don't do the right

  304. things, you know, and and David here is

  305. a good example for us to see that that

  306. was how he got his his clean heart back

  307. was um and his right spirit back

  308. was through the Holy Spirit.

  309. Turn over to Psalm 143.

  310. Psalm 143.

  311. And this is a good psalm.

  312. The Holy Spirit helps our prayer in the

  313. New Testament. We're going to we're

  314. going to see that eventually when we get

  315. over to Romans chapter 8 that, you know,

    Romans 8 chapter mention

  316. not only can the Holy Spirit, you know,

  317. search the deep things of God and help

  318. us with the deep things of God, the Holy

  319. Spirit can can search us as well, like

  320. he did David.

  321. and help David confess his sins to God.

  322. So here we see in verse uh 10,

  323. David says, "Teach me to do thy will for

  324. thou art my God. Thy spirit is good.

  325. Lead me into the land of uprightness."

  326. So God led David uh through the Holy

  327. Spirit. And you know, so that he would

  328. understand who God is. And we need that,

  329. don't we? you know, Paul, and we've seen

  330. that already in the New Testament in,

  331. you know, first Corinthians, those first

  332. few chapters where Paul says that the

  333. spirit of God searches the deep things

  334. of God that we might know what's freely

  335. given to us of God,

  336. you know. So, the blessings of God, the

  337. knowledge of God, the understanding of

  338. God, the spirit of God helps us uh

  339. tremendously here.

  340. Turn to Isaiah 32.

  341. Isaiah 32. We saw some examples last

  342. week of the Holy Spirit coming upon the

  343. Messiah uh when he come to help him. And

  344. we read a lot of verses on that last

  345. week. Um here's a good one for us to

  346. remind us of these things in in Isaiah

  347. 32.

  348. This is the, you know, the kingdom of

  349. crisis that's eventually going to come.

  350. We're going to be, we're going to be a

  351. part of that. Here in Isaiah 32 and

  352. verse 15,

  353. he says, "Until the spirit be poured out

  354. upon us from on high."

  355. So here's here's the here's a good

  356. example of the deity of the Holy Spirit.

  357. You know, you just can't go any higher

  358. than him.

  359. And uh until the spirit be poured out on

  360. us from on high and the wilderness be a

  361. fruit fulfilled and the fruit fulfilled

  362. will be as counted as a forest, then

  363. justice will come. So this is the

  364. messianic kingdom where the spirit is

  365. going to be poured out on us to from on

  366. high to know God and for them to know

  367. God in a great way.

  368. You know I I think a good example for

  369. that for us Gentiles, you know, I wasn't

  370. raised a Jew. I didn't know any I didn't

  371. know the Old Testament from the New

  372. Testament.

  373. But that's what that's what the new

  374. birth does. It brings us this

  375. understanding

  376. um of who God is and what God has done

  377. and and you know Christ just you know

  378. we're all one in him

  379. and there's no more Jew, there's no more

  380. Gentile.

  381. That's what Paul says in Galatians. So

  382. the spirit is poured on us from on high

  383. so that we might know these great things

  384. of God. Turn over to Isaiah 34.

  385. Isaiah 34

  386. and verse 16.

  387. Seek ye out of the book

  388. of the Lord and read it.

  389. No one of these shall fail.

  390. None shall lack or made for my mouth has

  391. said it and commanded it and his spirit

  392. has gathered them.

  393. So God tells us that his word is

  394. reliable.

  395. Whether we're in Genesis or Revelation,

  396. we're somewhere in between. God says,

  397. "Seek out the book of the Lord." We've

  398. got the book of the Lord. So God can

  399. show us who he is in this book. And then

  400. uh in these Old Testament verses that we

  401. see here uh are just incredible.

  402. Turn to Isaiah 44.

  403. Isaiah 44.

  404. And the and the day is going to come

  405. we're going to we're going to get into

  406. the New Testament here and see what the

  407. New Testament says

  408. about the Holy Spirit.

  409. And you know that's what's going to

  410. happen. That's how we Gentiles got

  411. saved. That's we heard the gospel and

  412. somebody brought us the gospel. Faith

  413. cometh by hearing and hearing by the

  414. word of God. And and Jesus said the

  415. spirit was going to convict us there in

  416. John. We saw those verses. But here we

  417. have something in the Old Testament

  418. saying, "I will pour water upon them

  419. that are thirsty and floods upon dry

  420. ground." It reminds me of what Jesus

  421. said uh in in uh one of the gospels,

  422. John chapter 7, where he says this, he

    John 7 chapter mention

  423. stood up and spoke and said of the Holy

  424. Spirit, that God was going to pour out

  425. his spirit upon the Gentiles, and we're

  426. going to know God, you know, and and uh

  427. not just know about God, but know God,

  428. the new birth, regeneration, be given a

  429. new nature,

  430. forgiven for all our sins. these all

  431. these great things and God has given us

  432. a spirit to abide with us forever.

  433. And here it is stating that in the Old

  434. Testament.

  435. Isaiah 59.

  436. Isaiah 59. You guys are going to need

  437. new Bibles by the time we get done

  438. today.

  439. These Old Testament verses just

  440. fascinate

  441. about God, who he is, and

  442. what he's willing to do for us sinners.

  443. In Isaiah 59,

  444. we're in here

  445. as Americans are are in the Old

  446. Testament in this verse 19.

  447. Bear with me a second.

  448. It says here,

  449. you know,

  450. um

  451. the the Holy Spirit's on a mission

  452. for for God, for God the Father and for

  453. God the Son.

  454. And that mission is to show men and

  455. women and children

  456. that God loves them and what a wonderful

  457. salvation he has for us, what he's

  458. provided for us. And here in verse 19,

  459. he says, "So shall they fear the name of

  460. the Lord from the

  461. America, I mean the West." Are we in the

  462. West?

  463. Yeah, we we're in the West.

  464. China's in the east. Well, here we are.

  465. God wants his word spread. God wants his

  466. truth spread. God wants his salvation

  467. spread. God wants everyone from east to

  468. west to know about his glory

  469. from the rising of the sun when the

  470. enemy shall come in like a flood. And

  471. the spirit of the Lord shall lift up a

  472. standard against him.

  473. And here's our wonderful

  474. redeemer.

  475. And the re redeemer shall come to Zion

  476. and unto those who turn from their

  477. transgressions in Jacob and in the Lord.

  478. God's not going to forget Israel.

  479. You know, but these verses are saying

  480. that God's going to save Gentiles to the

  481. west

  482. and he's not going to forget Israel. The

  483. redeemer is going to come. There's only

  484. one redeemer for the Jew. There's only

  485. one redeemer for

  486. um the Gentiles.

  487. Whosoever will may come, this redeemer

  488. has done a great work.

  489. And as for me, this is my covenant with

  490. them. So God is coming after us,

  491. you know, with his redeemer. God is

  492. coming after us with his Holy Spirit.

  493. God is coming after us with his word.

  494. And that's what this says. As for me,

  495. this is my covenant with them, sayaeth

  496. the Lord. My spirit that is upon thee,

  497. and my words which I have put in your

  498. mouth shall not depart out out of your

  499. mouth, nor out of your mouth of the

  500. seed, nor out of the mouth of your seed

  501. seed. So, generation after generation,

  502. God, you know, he's on a mission here

  503. to redeem Israel, to redeem Gentiles,

  504. um because of this precious redeemer

  505. that he has sent. And he says from

  506. henceforth

  507. and forever more. So, the gift of the

  508. Holy Spirit, the gift of the redeemer,

  509. uh, both of them here in the book of

  510. Isaiah. Turn over to chapter 63.

  511. Isaiah 63

  512. and verse 10.

  513. Isaiah 63 and verse 10.

  514. you know,

  515. the the Holy Spirit can be

  516. um can be vexed, can be grieved, uh

  517. could be lied to. Remember what happened

  518. to Ananas and Safara.

  519. So, the Holy Spirit is a person

  520. because he can be grieved, because he

  521. can be quenched, because he can be

  522. blasphemed.

  523. So, he's a real person.

  524. and a member of the Godhead with a

  525. personality, but they rebelled. They

  526. vexed his holy spirit. Therefore, he was

  527. turned uh to their enemies and he fought

  528. against them.

  529. So, we uh we can misuse God that he's

  530. given to us, the Holy Spirit. So, uh we

  531. want to be careful. He's holy.

  532. Um that's what Paul says in Romans 1:4.

    Romans 1:4

  533. He talks about that spirit of holiness

  534. that the Holy Spirit is. That's why he's

  535. called the Holy Spirit.

  536. He's holy and he's takes up residence

  537. when within us and we we should know

  538. what he likes and what he dislikes

  539. and live accordingly.

  540. And you know over and over God talks

  541. about redemption and the redeemer and

  542. the spirit and giving them to us. And

  543. these are great gifts that God has for

  544. us. You know these aren't, you know, we

  545. cannot merit salvation. We cannot merit

  546. anything from God. If God had not chosen

  547. to freely give, we would be in serious

  548. trouble.

  549. But we have a redeemer because God has

  550. provided

  551. this precious gift of eternal life

  552. through his son. Turn to Ezekiel

  553. 37.

  554. Ezekiel 37.

  555. and verse 14. Ezekiel 37

  556. and verse 14.

  557. And I shall put my spirit in you and you

  558. will live.

  559. How is that? That there's the new birth.

  560. You know, the spirit of God comes and

  561. that's what the New Testament says.

  562. We're going to get to those verses,

  563. aren't we? where he says not, you know,

  564. we have to be born by the word and by

  565. the spirit. Both. We need both. Well,

  566. here he's talking about that spirit

  567. being poured out on us and I will put my

  568. spirit in you and you will live. We're

  569. dead. We're dead in trespasses and sins.

  570. But God gave us his spirit that we might

  571. live.

  572. Only God has life. You know, there's

  573. nobody on the earth with life. We're

  574. We're all dyers. There's no one that

  575. hasn't died. There's no one that's not

  576. going to die.

  577. That curse is in throughout the human

  578. race.

  579. I know the the health care is getting

  580. better and the um I guess the uh what do

  581. they call that? The age that people are

  582. dying is going up because of the great

  583. healthcare we have. But everyone is

  584. going to die.

  585. And we need life. We need the

  586. resurrection life. We need the life from

  587. God. We're we're dead.

  588. We're dead. We're separated from God.

  589. We're born that way. Every one of us.

  590. And we need the new birth. We need the

  591. Holy Spirit of God. And he's the one

  592. that produces the regeneration.

  593. You know, we've seen that as we've

  594. studied the Holy Spirit and and seen

  595. that it is the spirit of God that brings

  596. life.

  597. You know, that's that's what John 5 says

  598. about the where that's where Jesus talks

  599. about his own deity. He talks about the

  600. deity of the father. He talks about the

  601. deity of the Holy Spirit.

  602. And it's God that brings us life. It's

  603. God that brings us regeneration. It's

  604. God that brings us hope

  605. uh for this dying body that we are in.

  606. Paul said, "Oh wretched man that I am,

  607. who shall deliver me from the body of

  608. this death?" And only God

  609. can do that.

  610. Turn to Ezekiel

  611. 39.

  612. and

  613. verse 29.

  614. Ezekiel 39 29. Neither will I hide my

  615. base anymore from them, for I have

  616. poured out my spirit upon the house of

  617. Israel, saith the Lord.

  618. Well, you know, this is concerning

  619. Israel, but he did God's done the same

  620. thing for the church.

  621. We're going to look at the the day of

  622. Pentecost at some point here going

  623. through this series,

  624. but it's a good time for us to stop and

  625. realize that, you know, before the day

  626. of Pentecost ever come, God

  627. had plans of pouring his wonderful

  628. spirit out upon us.

  629. And you know he and God we can clearly

  630. see here that

  631. he says upon the house of Israel and we

  632. see in the New Testament about about the

  633. nations as well. And that's that's what

  634. Jesus said to do. Go to the nations

  635. and and baptize them in the name of the

  636. father, the son, and the holy spirit

  637. teaching them to observe all things

  638. whatsoever I've commanded you. And

  639. here's that verse in Joel. Let's look at

  640. Joel chapter 2.

    Joel 2 chapter mention

  641. And

  642. up in verse 25, he says, "I will restore

  643. to you the years that the locusts have

  644. eaten."

  645. We've, some of us have wasted a lot of

  646. our life. Some of us have wasted a lot

  647. of time

  648. and God says he's going to restore

  649. uh to you the years that the locust have

  650. eaten.

  651. What a picture. How? Verse 28.

  652. And it will come to pass afterwards that

  653. I will pour out my spirit upon all

  654. flesh, not just Jews,

  655. not just Americans, not just Germans,

  656. not just Chinese folks, Asian folks, or

  657. Japanese on all flesh.

  658. So, how's that going to happen? what is

  659. going to happen through the preaching of

  660. the gospel going and doing what Jesus

  661. said for us to do at the end of the book

  662. of Matthew. So again, we have some

  663. incredible verses here about these

  664. things. Turn to Micah chapter 3.

    Micah 3 chapter mention

  665. Micah,

    Micah 3 chapter mention

  666. chapter 3.

  667. Micah chapter 3 and verse 8.

    Micah 3 chapter mention

  668. But truly I am full of power

  669. by the spirit prophet talking of the

  670. Lord of judgment and might to declare

  671. unto Jacob his transgression to Israel

  672. his sin. So we'll never know what sin is

  673. or what sin is not without the word of

  674. God.

  675. And without God telling us what it is,

  676. Paul said, "I

  677. didn't know uh coveting was coveting

  678. except for the law says that." He said,

  679. "People are smart enough to know." No,

  680. we're not.

  681. God has to tell us what's right. God has

  682. to tell us what's wrong. And he does

  683. that in his word. And these these were

  684. spiritled men. These prophets were. And

  685. these men that God used in Israel to

  686. confront men about their sin and and and

  687. and what was wrong. You know, God gave

  688. these men his spirit for this very

  689. purpose.

  690. Haggi chapter 2.

  691. Hei

  692. chapter 2

  693. and verse 5.

  694. according to the word

  695. that I coveted with you when you came

  696. out of Egypt,

  697. the nation of Israel.

  698. They wouldn't exist without God.

  699. They wouldn't exist without God. The

  700. church wouldn't exist without God.

  701. And you know, we that's why we have to

  702. believe in the word of God. If we don't

  703. believe the Bible is the word of God, we

  704. don't have a Christianity. We don't have

  705. a church, we don't have anything.

  706. So, we're dependent on what God says

  707. in his word. And that's what this is.

  708. According to the word that I have

  709. coveted with you and when you came out

  710. of Egypt, so my spirit remains among

  711. you. Fear not.

  712. We have that in the New Testament. You

  713. know, I just love Romans chapter 8.

    Romans 8 chapter mention

  714. There is therefore now no condemnation

  715. to them that are in Christ. We just have

  716. this assurance from God that, you know,

  717. he he's going to keep his word. He's

  718. going to keep his covenant with us.

  719. Well, we're so sinful. How can he do it?

  720. Well, he's got a plan. Turn to

  721. Zechariah.

  722. to Zachchariah.

  723. You ever dream that God would come and

  724. dwell among his own?

  725. You ever dream that up?

  726. No. No one can dream this up.

  727. You know that man's ways aren't God's

  728. ways. God's ways aren't man's ways. But

  729. God said, "I'm I'm going to come and

  730. dwell among you

  731. to the Jews first.

  732. And that's what John says. He came unto

  733. his own and his own received him not.

  734. You say, "Surely the Jews would know

  735. God."

  736. They missed it.

  737. You know, so we need God as well to keep

  738. us uh in tune with who he is and his

  739. word. And you know, we never get to

  740. where we've graduated

  741. with these things, but God says he's

  742. going to bring his presence with us.

  743. And he's he's promised to do it in the

  744. spirit and with the Holy Spirit. That's

  745. Pentecost. That's, you know, the called

  746. out ones that God has for himself. And

  747. we're going to see that in the New

  748. Testament. But here in Zechariah chapter

    Zechariah 4 chapter mention

  749. 4

  750. and verse 6, this is

  751. you. This is one of the

  752. best verses in the whole Bible.

  753. How does God do things?

  754. Oh, he's mighty God. He can he can nuke

  755. anyone at any time.

  756. But that's not the way God works.

  757. He doesn't do things like we do.

  758. He does things differently.

  759. So that's why we want to be

  760. understanding

  761. of him and his ways.

  762. And in verse six, then answered, "And he

  763. spoke unto me, saying, this is the word

  764. of the Lord unto Zerubbable,

  765. saying, not by might nor power,

  766. but but by spirit, sayeth the Lord." So

  767. that's how God does things and

  768. accomplishes

  769. his will and sending the redeemer to us.

  770. We didn't ask for him. We really didn't

  771. even know we needed him until we got

  772. into the word of God. Just see how

  773. sinful we are

  774. and how ignorant we are and how blind we

  775. are.

  776. Just like those who killed Jesus,

  777. they're in Jerusalem.

  778. We need a savior, too. We need a

  779. redeemer, too. We need the spirit of

  780. God, too. You know, God brings us these

  781. things when he brings us this great gift

  782. of salvation. And here in chapter 9,

  783. verse 9,

  784. rejoice greatly, oh daughter of Zion.

  785. Shout, O daughter of Jerusalem. Behold

  786. thy king.

  787. Oh, the redeemer is a king.

  788. God's a king. God's going to dwell among

  789. us as a king.

  790. How can we miss this?

  791. But we do. We need the word of God. He

  792. is just having salvation. It's He's got

  793. it. We need a deliverer and it's him. We

  794. need a deliverance and it's him. We need

  795. a savior and it's him.

  796. God is dwelling among us as a man and

  797. that man is his son

  798. whom the spirit is pointing us to as

  799. well. And these great things are

  800. said of him here in the Old Testament.

  801. That's what remember David said in Psalm

  802. 139. Where can I go

  803. to get away from your spirit?

  804. Well, the Holy Spirit is is God

  805. that therefore he's he is omniresent.

  806. He's everywhere.

  807. You know, that's that's what we need.

  808. You and I, we can't be in two places at

  809. once.

  810. He's everywhere at once.

  811. And this is the very gift

  812. that God has given us because of what

  813. Jesus has done. Turn to Romans chapter

    Romans 8 chapter mention

  814. 8.

  815. God even thought of our infirmities,

  816. you know, in his great plan.

  817. He didn't say, "Well, I'll give you the

  818. gift of salvation, the gift of the Holy

  819. Spirit, but as soon as you sin, you're

  820. back on your own.

  821. That wouldn't take long, would it?

  822. So, what about my infirmities? What

  823. about my shortcomings? What about my

  824. flesh? What about all these problems

  825. that I have? Well, Romans chapter 5

    Romans 5 chapter mention

  826. covered that.

  827. You know, God gave you his son. How much

  828. how it didn't cost him anymore to give

  829. you everything else.

  830. And so, it is with the Holy Spirit. God

  831. has given us the Holy Spirit. Not only

  832. that we can know the deep things of God

  833. like Paul says in Corinthians here Paul

  834. says that that we might know the deep

  835. things of ourselves and our

  836. shortcomings.

  837. So

  838. the spirit of God is who we have

  839. dwelling within us.

  840. Every Christian

  841. you have the presence of God in you. I

  842. have the presence of God in me. the

  843. spirit that he's speaking of here. And

  844. you know, he's he has the ability to be

  845. everywhere at once. That's just

  846. incredible.

  847. But he's God

  848. and he he makes the deep things of God

  849. known to us and he makes our deep needs

  850. made known to us

  851. and we need that. Verse 26. Likewise to

  852. the spirit,

  853. he helps our infirmities,

  854. for we know not what we ought to pray

  855. as we ought. We don't even know how to

  856. pray right

  857. without the spirit, but he's there. And

  858. he makes intercession for us with

  859. groanings which cannot be uttered.

  860. And he that see he that searches the

  861. hearts

  862. knows what is in the mind of the spirit.

  863. So we have the mind of Christ. We have

  864. of the Holy Spirit. And he's the word of

  865. God is living and sharper than any

  866. two-edged sword, you know. So we we have

  867. this incredible ability of our flesh to

  868. deceive ourselves even.

  869. So we need God's word. We need the

  870. spirit of God to help us with these

  871. things. He searches our minds. He

  872. searches our hearts with the living word

  873. of God. And you know, he's not something

  874. less than God.

  875. He is God.

  876. So we have two members of the Trinity

  877. dwelling within us. the the son of God,

  878. Colossians makes that clear, is dwelling

  879. in us. And here Paul makes it clear that

  880. the spirit of God is dwelling in us as

  881. well.

  882. So we can take hope, can't we? Now turn

  883. over to Ephesians chapter 3.

    Ephesians 3 chapter mention

  884. Ephesians chapter 3.

    Ephesians 3 chapter mention

  885. We'll just take one of these. And there

  886. are many

  887. here. He Paul tells us that the Holy

  888. Spirit has sealed us

  889. in uh verse

  890. 30 of chapter 303. I'm sorry, no 30

  891. chapters in pieces.

  892. Chapter 3 and verse 30.

  893. That's not happening either, is it?

  894. Thank you, pastor. Chapter 4:E 30.

  895. There he is.

  896. Thank you. And grieve not the Holy

  897. Spirit of God by whom you are sealed.

  898. So God has sealed us with his spirit.

  899. That's just this is just one thing that

  900. the New Testament says we have. And it

  901. says until the day of redemption. I'm

  902. glad he didn't say until you sin.

  903. or I'm I'm you until you sin for the

  904. 29th time or the 39th time. No, God has

  905. sealed us with his spirit until our body

  906. gets redeemed. You know, God knows these

  907. wretched men that we are and these

  908. wretched women that we are.

  909. But nevertheless, it should help us now.

  910. Let all bitterness and wrath, anger and

  911. clamor, be kind one to another,

  912. tender-hearted, forgiving one another.

  913. That's the, you know, the love of the

  914. spirit, the Holy Spirit that God has

  915. given to us. So, you know, we live in a

  916. land and a time of great fraud.

  917. It's going on everywhere.

  918. You know, it's just one thing after

  919. another with the internet now. People

  920. being taken advantage of and being

  921. deceived. These these great frauds and

  922. these great hoaxes abound.

  923. But this will never happen to us. This

  924. will never happen to those who are gods

  925. because he has sealed us. I saw that

  926. special on Bernie Maid off the other

  927. day. Remember him? I hope you didn't

  928. have your 401k with him.

  929. 40, excuse me, $65 billion

  930. he made off of.

  931. So many people give him millions of

  932. dollars and their whole, you know,

  933. retirement funds and, you know, he

  934. pulled off one of the greatest Ponzi

  935. schemes ever to the tune of $65 million.

  936. In 2009, he was sentenced to 150 years

  937. in prison.

  938. Doesn't seem right, huh? But he died in

  939. prison 2021.

  940. And you know, God says, "You think I'm a

  941. man like Bernie Maid off?" No, God is

  942. not a man like Bernie Maid off. God is a

  943. great God who this universe belongs to

  944. him. Revelation 7.

  945. Revelation chapter 7.

    Revelation 7 chapter mention

  946. Whose seal do we have on us? Not Bernie

  947. Maidoffs, not not United States

  948. government, not even Athens Bible

  949. Church.

  950. It's the seal of God,

  951. the God of the universe.

  952. And here in Revelation 7

  953. and verse two, I saw another angel

  954. ascending from the east having the seal

  955. of the living God. And he cried with a

  956. loud voice to the four angels to whom it

  957. was given to hurt the earth and the sea,

  958. saying, "Hurt not the earth, neither the

  959. sea, nor the trees, until we have sealed

  960. the servant of God in our forehead."

  961. So those who have the seal of God are

  962. marked for preservation.

  963. God owns us. That's what the Bible says.

  964. He paid a great price for us. He shed

  965. his blood for us.

  966. He bought all of us, body, soul, and

  967. spirit. We belong to God. We belong to

  968. him. This is his ownership over us. This

  969. is his security over us. This is uh

  970. we're in God's portfolio, if you will,

  971. because of Christ and what he has done.

  972. And we have this incredible seal. Turn

  973. to Revelation chapter 5.

    Revelation 5 chapter mention

  974. Revelation chapter 5. And you remember

    Revelation 5 chapter mention

  975. this

  976. um you know this is the the scroll and

  977. Christ takes the scroll and the the

  978. title deed to the universe. You mean the

  979. universe has a title deed?

  980. This is what it says. But I know who the

  981. owner is

  982. and he is the one who has given us the

  983. Holy Spirit. He's the one who has given

  984. us this seal and we we will not be

  985. destroyed.

  986. You know that's a part of this as well.

  987. We have the ownership, we have the

  988. security, we have we have the

  989. destination.

  990. Our destination is heaven.

  991. And here we see in chapter 1 5:1 I saw a

  992. right hand of him who sat on the throne.

  993. A scroll was written and what it was on

  994. the back and it was sealed.

  995. There's our word with seven seals.

  996. So God has sealed us to the day of

  997. redemption. Verse seven,

  998. and he came and he took the scroll out

  999. of the right hand of him that sat on the

  1000. throne. So here's ownership.

  1001. Who owns the universe?

1002. Well, God created it. Well, now his son

1003. has come and bought it back and he

1004. bought us as well. And here's the

1005. purchase price in verse 9.

1006. And they sang a new song, saying, 'You

1007. are worthy to take the scroll and open

1008. its seal. For you are slain. You've

1009. redeemed us to God by the blood out of

1010. every kindred, tongue, people, and

  1011. nation.

1012. Security, destination. We're even marked

1013. for rewards. Jesus said at the end of

1014. this book, "Your rewards follow you."

1015. And he that is just, let him be just

1016. still. And so on. Turn over to chapter

  1017. nine.

  1018. Revelation

  1019. and verse four.

1020. And it was commanded them that they

1021. should not hurt the grass of the earth,

1022. neither any green thing, neither any

1023. tree, but only those who have not the

1024. seal of God in their forehead. So again,

1025. we're sealed by God by the Holy Spirit.

1026. We have nothing to fear.

1027. We're going to die and go to heaven. God

1028. has paid a great price for us. And uh

  1029. that's what his son

  1030. has done for us.

  1031. And um

1032. turn to second Timothy chapter 2

    2 Timothy 2 chapter mention

  1033. and I'll quit.

  1034. Second Timothy 2

    2 Timothy 2:19

  1035. verse 19.

1036. And God knows who has the seal. He's not

  1037. going to forget anyone.

1038. Nobody's not going to be to heaven

  1039. because God forgot them.

  1040. In verse 19,

1041. lest the foundation of God stand sure

1042. having this seal. The Lord knows them

1043. that are his. And let everyone that

1044. names the name of Christ depart from

1045. iniquity. So there we have it. The seal.

1046. God knows he he him he's paid a great

1047. price for our body, our soul, and our

1048. spirit that we might be with him

1049. forever. That's what God wants. He wants

1050. us to have fellowship with him. And he

1051. he wants us to know him in a great way.

1052. And he's sealed us for this great trip

1053. we're going to make to heaven someday.

1054. Let's pray. Father, we thank you for

  1055. this day.

1056. We thank you for your word.

1057. We see examples of your spirit, Father,

1058. doing little m mundane things we might

  1059. think

1060. and and guiding us and teaching us and

1061. helping us to know you and to know you

1062. better. And as you've said, the spirit

1063. knows the deep things of God. The spirit

1064. knows the deep need that we have as

1065. well. and we thank you for the great

1066. provision you've made with your

1067. wonderful son shedding his blood for us.

1068. And we pray in Jesus name. Amen.

1069. >> Lord, as we go from this place

  1070. loving you more,

  1071. trusting you more.

1072. May the power of your love and the light

1073. of your word shine well to a sin

1074. darkened world as we go from this place.
