  1. as well.

  2. This Palm Sunday, I'd like you to turn

  3. back to our text in Matthew 28.

  4. This is the launching pad for this

  5. particular series

  6. on the resurrection

  7. of the Lord Jesus Christ. We started

  8. this series last Sunday. This is our

  9. second me message in that series.

  10. And we meet the Lord in Matthew 28

  11. in Galilee.

  12. And we meet him

  13. with the great commission that he gives

  14. on that occasion as he showed himself

  15. alive. This wasn't the first time he

  16. appeared. There were five appear

  17. appearances in preceding this

  18. at least.

  19. But in verse 16,

  20. Matthew 28:16,

    Matthew 28:16

  21. then the 11 disciples went away into

  22. Galilee into a mountain where Jesus had

  23. appointed them.

  24. When they saw him, they worshiped him.

  25. But some doubted. As we said last week,

  26. they weren't alone. There was probably

  27. 500 plus people there. If you do the uh

  28. Bible study on the connecting the

  29. difference appear appearances

  30. and when Jesus came and the original is

  31. when he came up was he appeared in the

  32. distance uh that's very important our

  33. ver our some of our English translations

  34. don't recognize this enough he was in

  35. the distance when he first appeared with

  36. that number of people you wouldn't want

  37. to scare everybody so he appeared in the

  38. distance and was coming forward. The

  39. reason some doubted was he was in the

  40. distance. It's like you're standing at

  41. one end of a football field and there's

  42. somebody over there uhund 100 yards

  43. away. I think that's so and so. And they

  44. come, oh yeah, that is them.

  45. And so in verse 18, Jesus came up and

  46. spoke to them saying, "All authority is

  47. given to me in heaven and in earth."

  48. In in itself, it's an amazing statement.

  49. All authority is given to me in heaven

  50. and earth. Go you therefore and teach

  51. all nations, baptizing them in the name

  52. of the Father and of the Son and of the

  53. Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe

  54. all things whatsoever I've commanded

  55. you. And lo, I'm with you always, even

  56. to the end of the age. Now, this passage

  57. is just a launching pad, but for our

  58. messages, but I want us to have a

  59. continuity in this particular series.

  60. Now, part of preparing for Easter

  61. Sunday, which is next week, is

  62. understanding Palm Sunday.

  63. Um,

  64. I I love Palm Sunday. I think I've told

  65. you I got saved on a Palm Sunday when I

  66. was 13. It's a special day for me.

  67. And in the years I've been to this

  68. church, this is my 48th Palm Sunday

  69. message.

  70. And you know, I came in 76, but Palm

  71. Sunday was already over. Well, I didn't

  72. get it that year.

  73. No, excuse me. I've already preached 48

  74. messages. This is my 49th Palm Sunday

  75. message.

  76. And you begin to think, well, what can I

  77. say that I haven't already said uh on

  78. Palm Sunday?

  79. Well, I think as we if we think of the

  80. connection with Palm Sunday and Easter

  81. Sunday, it will help us a lot, right?

  82. And just want to remind us that the one

  83. who publicly wrote into Jerusalem on

  84. Palm Sunday was resurrected from the

  85. dead the very next Sunday

  86. and vice versa.

  87. the one who was re resurrected from the

  88. dead on what we call Easter Sunday

  89. rode into Jerusalem a week before on

  90. Palm Sunday.

  91. Um

  92. his arrival in Jerusalem

  93. was not secret.

  94. Now there were times in Jesus's ministry

  95. when he slipped in Jerusalem quietly.

  96. Not this time.

  97. This is a very very public event

  98. and

  99. he it's very interesting his change of

  100. policy. He knew he was writing to his

  101. death on Palm Sunday. He knew that they

  102. were going to reject him and kill him.

  103. He'd been prophesying it quite

  104. regularly.

  105. And his arrival was not a secret event.

  106. His resurrection was not an

  107. unanticipated event. It was a prophesied

  108. in the Bible and in his own words in his

  109. ministry.

  110. His arrival was public. His crucifixion

  111. was public.

  112. His

  113. resurrection

  114. was

  115. authenticated

  116. one week from Palm Sunday.

  117. His resurrection was authenticated

  118. Easter morning. He was authenticated

  119. again Easter afternoon. It was

  120. authenticated again Easter evening.

  121. Now there were several people that saw

  122. him Easter morning. And then there was

  123. the couple from Emmas that saw him

  124. Easter afternoon. And then everybody but

  125. Thomas saw him Easter evening.

  126. And of course saw Thomas saw him a week

  127. later.

  128. And all that was in fulfillment of his

  129. own prophecies that were extremely

  130. specific

  131. where he said over and over again that

  132. he was going to die and he was going to

  133. be risen from the dead on the third day.

  134. And what's fascinating is that those who

  135. saw him were gathered together

  136. in Jerusalem.

  137. There were 120 of his followers in

  138. Jerusalem

  139. that stood up in the temple and

  140. proclaimed it publicly

  141. 40 days after it happened.

  142. Now

  143. these are all fascinating things and if

  144. you start thinking about the

  145. authenticity of the resurrection of

  146. Jesus and the publicity of that

  147. resurrection, it was a very very public

  148. event.

  149. Our government's bombing Iran and people

  150. are saying, "Is this one alive? Or is

  151. that one alive? Is he dead? Is he dead?"

  152. We don't know who's alive and who's dead

  153. half the time.

  154. And

  155. but in this case,

  156. they're secret.

  157. Very public.

  158. I am he who is dead and I'm alive

  159. forever more.

  160. So I want to uh come before you and just

  161. bring this whole business

  162. of what Jesus is doing here and saying

  163. here to go into all the world and preach

  164. the gospel to every nation and baptizing

  165. them in the name of the father, the son,

  166. the holy spirit and I'm with you always

  167. to the end of the age and all of that. I

  168. want to make my observations

  169. uh about these things in light of what

  170. went before these things. Palm Sunday

  171. was one of the things that went before

  172. it,

  173. but it wasn't even the major thing. The

  174. ministry of Jesus for three years went

  175. before it and everything it entailed and

  176. the prophecies of Jesus's resurrection

  177. went before that that were written

  178. before he was born.

  179. The Jews Bible predicted the

  180. resurrection.

  181. He rose again the third day according to

  182. the scriptures.

  183. And so very very important stuff.

  184. Um but what does it mean he rose from

  185. the dead?

  186. Let's define ourselves.

  187. This is kind of important.

  188. What does it mean when we say

  189. Jesus arose from the dead?

  190. It's amazing and fascinating to me as a

  191. pastor and as a Christian how confused

  192. some people can be.

  193. And there are many people that hardly

  194. give a thought to this

  195. and they get things all baldled up in

  196. their mind. And you you may have been

  197. one of those people or I'm sure you know

  198. people like that. What does it mean he

  199. arose from the dead?

  200. And is there a preparation in the Bible

  201. for this concept?

  202. What did the Jewish Bible that predicted

  203. his resurrection? What did the Jewish

  204. Bible written be finished before 400

  205. years before he was born? What did it

  206. say about the resurrection?

  207. If you're going to define your terms,

  208. you got to know what you're dealing

  209. with, right?

  210. So, what does resurrection from the dead

  211. mean?

  212. It's very important. How can we proclaim

  213. it if we don't know what it is?

  214. How can we proclaim it if we're not sure

  215. of what it is?

  216. And there's a couple of things I want to

  217. do. I want to go back to the beginning

  218. of our Bible.

  219. And then I want to go back to the

  220. beginning of the great commission.

  221. So get started. We're going to do that

  222. two things at once.

  223. And the first thing I'm going to reverse

  224. them. I'm going to go to the beginning

  225. of the great commission. Then we're

  226. going to go through the Bible.

  227. Jesus said, "All things, all authority

  228. has been given me in heaven and earth.

  229. All authority, all authority has been

  230. given me. No one else has this. Nobody.

  231. I got all authority in heaven. I got all

  232. authority in earth." That's what he

  233. said.

  234. That's what he claimed. Total authority

  235. over this planet.

  236. Totally authority above this planet.

  237. total authority on everyone and

  238. everything on this planet. Total

  239. authority of everything going on under

  240. this planet.

  241. He's got all authority above the earth,

  242. all authority in below the earth, all

  243. authority on the earth. He's the only

  244. human being who's ever been given or

  245. ever will be given that kind of

  246. authority.

  247. And he's got it.

  248. The Apostle Paul writing about Jesus in

  249. his condescension to become a man that

  250. he who was in the form of God thought it

  251. not a thing to be held on to be equal

  252. with God, but took upon him the form of

  253. a servant was made in the likeness of

  254. men. And being found in passion of man,

  255. he humbled himself unto death, even the

  256. death of the cross. Wherefore God has

  257. highly exalted him and given him a name

  258. above every name.

  259. So, it's a fascinating thing. A

  260. carpenter

  261. became king of kings.

  262. Or we could say it the other way. The

  263. king of kings became a carpenter.

  264. He became incarnate and lived a life as

  265. a carpenter for 30 years.

  266. And they thought they were crucifying a

  267. carpenter that but they were crucifying

  268. Christ.

  269. Now

  270. in John chapter 5 verse 21

    John 5:21

  271. 30

  272. talks about a spiritual resurrection

  273. and a physical resurrection.

  274. The spiritual resurrection is from

  275. spiritual death where people who are

  276. spiritually dead will receive spiritual

  277. life.

  278. The hour is coming and now is. He's

  279. talking about

  280. that resurrection. But then he's talking

  281. about a physical resurrection. He has

  282. all authority, which means he can raise

  283. the dead. He can raise dead people who

  284. are their souls are dead. You're born

  285. with a dead soul. I was born of a dead

  286. soul. You have to be born again. You

  287. have to have received life from God. You

  288. have he made alive who were dead in

  289. trespasses and sins. We're new creatures

  290. in Christ.

  291. Old things have passed away. All things

  292. have become new. Jesus does that. You

  293. didn't do it.

  294. He has authority over every human being

  295. that's ever been ever lived or ever will

  296. live. And John chapter 5 says, "All that

    John 5 chapter mention

  297. are in the graves will hear his voice."

  298. All

  299. all that are in the graves will hear his

  300. voice and come forth.

  301. There'll be unsaved people that come

  302. forth to judgment. There'll be saved

  303. people that come forth to uh heaven in

  304. glory.

  305. The carpenter from Nazareth is the the

  306. creator of the universe and he has all

  307. authority.

  308. It's been delegated to him by God the

  309. Father.

  310. And Jesus Christ, who was risen from the

  311. dead, will resurrect all people from the

  312. dead physically and is resurrecting

  313. people from the dead now spiritually.

  314. That's what he's doing. That's what the

  315. gospel does. He does it through the

  316. gospel.

  317. Acts 17. If you'd hold your place here

  318. in Matthew, but go to Acts 17.

  319. very important passage

  320. in verse 18.

  321. This is Paul in Athens, Greece.

  322. Then certain philosophers of the

  323. Epicurians and of the Stoics 1717

  324. encountered him and some said, "What

  325. will this babbler say?" They're talking

  326. about Paul. others. He seems to be a

  327. setter forth of strange gods because he

  328. preached to them Jesus and the

  329. resurrection.

  330. Now, they got the content right, but

  331. they didn't couldn't understand the

  332. content and couldn't interpret the

  333. context and and they summarized his

  334. message. He preaches about Jesus, some

  335. guy called Jesus, and he preaches the

  336. resurrection.

  337. That was Paul's message, Jesus and the

  338. resurrection. And when you get down to

  339. chapter 17:E30,

  340. he says, "The times of this ignorance,

  341. God's overlooked, but now commands all

  342. men everywhere to repent."

  343. Acts 17:31, "Because he's appointed a

    Acts 17:31

  344. day in which he'll judge the world in

  345. righteousness by that man whom he has

  346. ordained." Well, how are we going to

  347. recognize the judge? Who's that judge

  348. that God's appointed

  349. concerning which he's given assurance to

  350. all men and he's raised him from the

  351. dead?

  352. So, we know who the judge is. We know

  353. who the end time judge is.

  354. Now, that brings us back to Matthew 28.

  355. All authority is given to me in heaven

  356. and earth. He's got it.

  357. He showed authority even before he was

  358. risen from the dead. He showed

  359. authority.

  360. If you go to Mark 5, don't go to it, but

  361. if you just remember some of the content

  362. of verse 5, the miracles he did

  363. in in Mark chapter 5, that they thought

    Mark 5 chapter mention

  364. they were going to sink in the ship. Oh,

  365. he stopped the waves.

  366. Our Lord has authority over danger. Any

  367. danger that you or I am in, he's got

  368. authority over. If it's my time to go,

  369. I'll go. If it's my time not to go, I

  370. won't go.

  371. He saved the apostles in the boat in the

  372. middle of the lake. He has authority

  373. over the waves. He has authority over

  374. the danger of those storms. He has

  375. authority over demons. Remember that

  376. he has authority over disease. Remember

  377. that. It's all in that chapter. He has

  378. authority over death. He raised someone

  379. from the dead at the end of that

  380. chapter. G in chapter 5 of Gospel Mark.

  381. Even before he was risen from the dead,

  382. he had authority over danger. whatever

  383. danger was coming over demons, over

  384. disease, and over death.

  385. But now he's even got more authority.

  386. And he's risen from the dead.

  387. He's got all authority.

  388. Now that Mark 5 looks like that's a lot

  389. of authority.

  390. All authority is given me in heaven. Now

  391. the Greek people in the first century

  392. did not believe in the resurrection of

  393. the dead.

  394. To them it was philosophically

  395. incoherent and inconsistent. It was

  396. inconsistent with their systems of human

  397. philosophy.

  398. People still think that way. And the

  399. west has got a reductionistic

  400. materialistic philosophy that people say

  401. there's not going to be a resurrection.

  402. We're kind of in the same spot.

  403. But for the Greeks, in the ancient

  404. Greeks, resurrection was not possible or

  405. even desirable

  406. because their minds were filled with

  407. human philosophy rather than God's

  408. revelation.

  409. And you know what? We'll see this in

  410. another message. There were Sadducees of

  411. Jesus's day who denied the resurrection

  412. from the dead.

  413. They mocked it.

  414. They didn't believe it.

  415. The Pharisees believed it, but the

  416. Sadducees didn't.

  417. And why didn't the Pharisees believe it?

  418. Well, they only accept, they had all

  419. kinds of errors, but one of them, they

  420. only accepted the first five books of

  421. the Bible as inspired.

  422. Their Bible went from Genesis to

  423. Deuteronomy and no farther.

  424. The Pharisees believed in the Old

  425. Testament. like the same Old Testament

  426. we've got. The Sadducees were

  427. materialistic to the core and uh they

  428. didn't believe in the resurrection or

  429. spirit.

  430. And remember in Acts 23, they got in a

  431. big argument with each other when Paul

  432. was there.

  433. Modern materialistic reluctance is based

  434. on modern philosophy, not on facts.

  435. And Ecclesiastes says there's nothing

  436. new under the sun. including error and

  437. wrong ways of thinking.

  438. So not all the first century Jews even

  439. believed the same. They didn't. Some of

  440. them didn't even believe in the

  441. resurrection from the dead. In their

  442. minds when Jesus is dead, he's dead.

  443. That's the end of him.

  444. Think solve that problem.

  445. But now, so outside of the Jewish people

  446. who had revelation about the

  447. resurrection, most people didn't even

  448. understand the concept in many ways. It

  449. was so far from their thinking.

  450. That brings us to some things I want to

  451. work on today. We are in a Sadduceian

  452. society.

  453. We are also in a society that's mixed up

  454. with false religious concepts.

  455. I'll deal with Sadduceum next time, Lord

  456. willing on Easter. I think it's a good

  457. time to deal with that.

  458. But today, I'm going to deal with

  459. something else.

  460. I have met several people, and probably

  461. you have too, that confuse

  462. reincarnation

  463. with resurrection.

  464. And many people say, I'm a Christian. I

  465. believe in reincarnation.

  466. No, you're not a Christian.

  467. Christianity does not teach

  468. reincarnation.

  469. Other religions do. Other philosophies

  470. do. Not Christianity. We do not believe

  471. in reincarnation.

  472. We believe in resurrection.

  473. You say, "Well, they aren't they the

  474. same?" You'd be amazed how peop some

  475. people say, "Aren't they the same?"

  476. They're not the same.

  477. The only similarity between

  478. reincarnation and resurrection is that

  479. in both cases

  480. the the letters re start both and the

  481. letters t i o n both.

  482. Maybe that's why people get so confused

  483. in their terminology.

  484. But re reincarnation is not a biblically

  485. correct concept. The Bible

  486. re actually teaches that there are some

  487. people who believe such a thing, but

  488. it's not something the Bible promotes

  489. nor condones. In fact, it totally

  490. contradicts it.

  491. Now, why am I bringing this up? Because

  492. if you want to do the great commission,

  493. if you're going to want to go to the

  494. world, all the world preach the gospel,

  495. if you want to minister to all nations

  496. about the resurrection of Jesus, you

  497. have to know what it is versus what they

  498. think.

  499. You understand where I'm coming from?

  500. I have a book in my library by a fellow

  501. by the name of John Snyder. He put it

  502. out in 1984 and that's about the time I

  503. read it. Reincarnation versus

  504. resurrection.

  505. John Snyder said this. The difference

  506. between reincarnation and resurrection

  507. can be understood correctly only when

  508. both ideas are viewed as representatives

  509. of two radically opposing philosophies.

  510. For neither

  511. uh resurrection nor reincarnation can

  512. exist independently of the worldview of

  513. which they are apart.

  514. And then he says Hindus, Buddhists, some

  515. Greek philosophers, a handful of people

  516. who say they're Jews or Christians

  517. believed it, but that's not the biblical

  518. teaching either in the Old Testament or

  519. New Testament. And GK Chesterton said,

  520. "Eastern philosophy inevitably leads to

  521. a contempt of life, whereas the

  522. Judeo-Christian view leads to a contempt

  523. of death."

  524. That's kind of important.

  525. The Lord Jesus Christ has all authority

  526. in heaven and earth. Buddha does not

  527. have that authority.

  528. Hinduism and all the promoters of

  529. Hinduism do not have that authority.

  530. Atheism and modern materialistic

  531. philosophy does not have that authority.

  532. The resurrection of Jesus Christ exposes

  533. and contradicts imaginary alternatives

  534. whether they're in Athens, Greece or

  535. Athens, Ohio.

  536. It contradicts deism. It contradicts

  537. Hinduism. It contradicts Buddhism and

  538. all the other isms that are out there.

  539. It takes on all covers.

  540. But we don't want to get confused or

  541. allow people to get confused with

  542. resurrection and reincarnation.

  543. So, let's kind of go back.

  544. Let's go back. Let's do our homework.

  545. Let's do our research

  546. and hold your place right here in go

  547. back to Matthew 28 and hold that. But go

  548. back with me to Genesis 1:26.

    Genesis 1:26

  549. In Genesis 1:26,

    Genesis 1:26

  550. it says, "And God said, let us make man

  551. in our image, after our likeness, and

  552. let them have dominion over the fish of

  553. the sea, over the fowl of the air, over

  554. the cattle, and over all earth, and over

  555. every creeping thing that creeps on the

  556. earth." So God created man in his own

  557. image in the image of God created him

  558. male and female created he them

  559. kind kind of important verse people are

  560. all people male and female are made in

  561. the image of God there's no animals made

  562. in the image of God I like animals I

  563. hope you do too but they're not in the

  564. image of God

  565. we are in the image of God

  566. we were created in the image of God. Our

  567. great great great great great great

  568. grandparents of Adam and Eve were

  569. created in the image of God.

  570. Animals aren't

  571. and never will be in the image of God.

  572. Now, you know, there are some people who

  573. believe in reincarnation that you know

  574. what reincarnation is based on a works

  575. theology, right? A merit theology. If

  576. you do good, you'll come back better

  577. in another life, in another body. If you

  578. do bad, you might come back like an

  579. animal.

  580. You may come back as a camel or a

  581. cow.

  582. Why don't they eat cows in India? You

  583. don't want to eat your relative

  584. be some ancestor you.

  585. So you don't you see in reincarnation

  586. you can come back as a person, another

  587. person like General Patton believed. He

  588. believed he was a general in previous

  589. lives.

  590. Or you can come back as an animal. It's

  591. called karma, right? Bad karma. Good

  592. karma. Karma is not what you do in this

  593. life. Oh, karma hit him. I saw what he

  594. did last week. Karma is what you did in

  595. a previous life.

  596. What you you did in a previous life is

  597. coming down on you.

  598. So there's a lot of confusion.

  599. But we are created in the image of God.

  600. Now, that's important because that means

  601. that God

  602. could become incarnate and become one of

  603. us.

  604. Apart from us being in the image of God,

  605. God could, let me just say it. This is a

  606. kind of awful thing to say. God could

  607. not become a cow.

  608. Cows aren't in the image of God. God

  609. could not become a chicken.

  610. They're not an image of God.

  611. God could become a human being because

  612. what? We are in the image of God.

  613. This is very basic thing. It's a very

  614. basic thing. Going back to the beginning

  615. of the Bible, Jesus said, "The volume of

  616. the book, it's written of me to do your

  617. will, oh God."

  618. And so, we got to look at the volume of

  619. the book, not just the great commission.

  620. And when we do look at Jesus and we look

  621. at his death and we look at he was a

  622. substitute for us on the cross and we

  623. look at the whole message of that very

  624. important it all it it's it's coherent

  625. there's one big story there's one big

  626. provision

  627. in chapter three God said to Adam

  628. chapter 3 verse

  629. 17.

  630. No, go back. I'm sorry. Go back to

  631. Genesis 27.

  632. Verse 2:7. The Lord God formed man from

  633. the dust of the ground and breathed into

  634. his nostrils the breath of life and man

  635. became a living soul.

  636. So Adam's body was made out of dust,

  637. the dust of the ground.

  638. And you go to chapter 3 verse 17.

  639. And unto Adam, he said, this is after

  640. the fall, because you've hearkened to

  641. the voice of your wife, and have eaten

  642. of the tree of which I commanded thee,

  643. saying, you'll not eat of it. Cursed is

  644. the ground for your sake. In sorrow

  645. shall you eat of it all the days of your

  646. life. Thorns and also and thistles shall

  647. it bring forth to you, and you shall eat

  648. the herb of the field. In the sweat of

  649. your face shall you eat bread till you

  650. return to the ground. For out of it you

  651. were taken and from dust you are and to

  652. dust you'll return.

  653. Apart from resurrection, we're all going

  654. back to the dust. Right?

  655. And we might even go back to the dust

  656. before we're resurrected.

  657. But God's got a plan. Turn to Daniel 12.

  658. And the plan is not reincarnation.

  659. The plan is resurrection.

  660. And this wasn't just something Jesus or

  661. the apostles invented. It's something

  662. the Old Testament taught

  663. before they were born in Daniel 12

  664. verse two.

  665. And many who those who sleep in the

  666. dust,

  667. their bodies are asleep.

  668. They're sleeping in the dust of the

  669. earth.

  670. Shall awake to some to everlasting life

  671. and some to shame and everlasting

  672. contempt. What's that? Resurrection.

  673. Resurrection from the dust.

  674. from people who've completely

  675. decomposed.

  676. A total reversal of death, physical

  677. death.

  678. And they that be wise, this is after

  679. they risen from the dead, shall shine

  680. like the brightness of the firmament,

  681. and they they'll turn many to

  682. righteousness as stars forever. And then

  683. the last verse of Daniel 12:13, go your

    Daniel 12:13

  684. way till the end be and you'll rest.

  685. You're going to rest in the grave. your

  686. body's going to rest in the grave and

  687. but then you're going to stand in your

  688. lot at the end of days. So the book of

  689. Daniel in the Old Testament is pretty

  690. clear about that.

  691. So apart from Jesus, apart from the work

  692. of Jesus, God couldn't raise any of us

  693. from the dead. We all be back to the

  694. dust.

  695. It's very interesting. The serpent told

  696. the lie about God. And the there was two

  697. serpents in the garden. There was a

  698. spiritual serpent. That's the devil. And

  699. there was a physical serpent that he

  700. used to talk to Eve. And God said of the

  701. physical serpent, "You're going to lose

  702. your legs and you're going to eat dust

  703. the rest of your life."

  704. Ever put those two dusts together? You

  705. caused

  706. humans to go to the dust. Now you're

  707. going to eat dust.

  708. Very fascinating.

  709. There's a whole big subject of all of

  710. that. I'm not going to go into that. But

  711. the Lord Jesus has all authority in

  712. heaven and earth. He has authority to

  713. raise the dead.

  714. He displayed that authority very clear

  715. in John 11, didn't he? When Lazarus

  716. died.

  717. And Lazarus's sister said, "It's been

  718. four days. Don't open that tomb because

  719. he stinks. I don't want to smell that. I

  720. want you to smell it. He's

  721. deteriorating.

  722. And Jesus said, "Lazarus, come forth."

  723. And he came forth. He resurrected a guy

  724. who was already deteriorated.

  725. And so, what a precious section John

    John 11 chapter mention

  726. chapter 11 is.

  727. It's not true that when you're dead,

  728. you're dead.

  729. And that's it.

  730. It's not true. It's a lie from Satan.

  731. Satan's original lies were proved to be

  732. untrue and his lies today will be proven

  733. to be untrue.

  734. Now, go back to Genesis with me, and I

  735. want to show you something that I think

  736. it's always been fascinating to me. And

  737. do you remember the three patriarchs?

  738. Can you you know their names? Can can

  739. you give me their names? Abraham, Isaac,

  740. and Jacob. Right. Abraham, Isaac, and

  741. Jacob. Abraham's the father of Isaac.

  742. Isaac's the father of Jacob. And Jacob

  743. is the father of the 12 tribes. Right?

  744. And there's a very interesting thing in

  745. the Bible. In the book of Genesis,

  746. there's a common grave

  747. for Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

  748. All three of the original patriarchs

  749. are in the same grave.

  750. The promises were to Abraham, Isaac, and

  751. Jacob. And when they died, they all

  752. wanted to be in the same place.

  753. So much so, it just went on like that.

  754. And so Abraham, remember in Genesis 23,

  755. he had to bury Sarah. She was the first

  756. person to die, Abraham's wife. And he

  757. wanted to bury his dead out of his

  758. sight. And he bought the cave at

  759. Makbalah. And he and Sarah was the first

  760. one in there. Then Abraham, he dies in

  761. Genesis 25:8-10.

    Genesis 25:8–10

  762. And then Ishmael dies in Genesis uh

  763. 25:17.

  764. No mentions married where where

  765. Ishmamail is buried.

  766. But when Abraham dies and when Ishmael

  767. dies and when um

  768. then we see Rachel's death, she didn't

  769. get buried in there because she died in

  770. Bethlehem and they put her right there

  771. that she was an exception to that group.

  772. But the fascinating thing is

  773. they all wanted to go back to that

  774. promised land and be buried in that

  775. plot.

  776. And when they die, it says so and so

  777. died and was gathered to his people.

  778. This is important. What does gathered to

  779. his people mean?

  780. Does that mean he was buried in the

  781. family graveyard?

  782. Well, they were all buried mostly except

  783. for Rachel in the family graveyard, but

  784. gathered to his people is not talking

  785. about their body in the family

  786. graveyard. It's nice to have everybody

  787. buried together.

  788. My grandparents,

  789. my aunt and uncle, and my mom and dad

  790. are all in the same plot. And my brother

  791. Tom,

  792. they're out of plots, so I'm not going

  793. to make it.

  794. But when grandma was when grandpa died,

  795. grandma bought all those plots and

  796. everybody's used them. But they're all

  797. kind of used up. So I got to be

  798. somewhere else for a while.

  799. But all of them, it was a very big deal.

  800. You can't read Genesis without really

  801. hearing that phrase was gathered to his

  802. people. Was gathered to his people. Was

  803. gathered to his people. It says it over

  804. and over again. And then they're always

  805. buried the same place. But

  806. this is very important. They were

  807. gathered to their people before they

  808. were buried.

  809. Gathered to their people is not

  810. referring to the body in the family

  811. graveyard.

  812. Gathered to their people is referring to

  813. the soul that leaves the body and goes

  814. to be with the others. immediately

  815. before burial.

  816. Let me show this to you when we get to

  817. the book of Genesis.

  818. I'm not going to go through all the

  819. passages. You just go read through

  820. Genesis and you can see, but the

  821. clearest ones are nor towards the end of

  822. Genesis. Anyway, turn to Genesis 48

  823. 7.

  824. Oh, that's Rachel. Excuse me. I don't

  825. want that one. I want to keep going. Uh,

  826. let's look at uh

  827. Genesis 49

  828. 33.

  829. This is this is the passage I want. Some

  830. of you have heard me teach this before.

  831. And when Jacob made Genesis 49:33,

    Genesis 49:33

  832. Jacob is down in Egypt.

  833. When Jacob made had made an end of

  834. commanding his sons, he gathered up his

  835. feet into the bed and died

  836. and was what?

  837. Gathered to his people.

  838. Where was his people? They weren't in

  839. Egypt. They're in the promised land.

  840. Notice what it says. He was gathered to

  841. his people. And then in 51 50 chapter

  842. 51, and Joseph fell on his father's face

  843. and wept upon him and kissed him.

  844. Jacob was gathered to his people

  845. immediately.

  846. And Joseph fell on his face and wept for

  847. him. And Joseph commanded his servants

  848. and physicians to embomb his father. and

  849. the inf physicians embombed Israel. And

  850. then there's 40 days and uh and then

  851. there's a big trip back to the promised

  852. land to bury him. He was gathered to his

  853. people before he was buried. Which means

  854. what? There was an immediate reunion.

  855. Immediate reunion

  856. of his soul and the souls of Abraham and

  857. Isaac

  858. and Sarah and everybody else that was in

  859. there.

  860. He was gathered to his people.

  861. It's very important passage I believe

  862. and we need to rejoice in that.

  863. So there's no hint of materialism.

  864. You're dead. You're dead. That's it.

  865. There's no other time you're going to

  866. see anybody or be with anybody. He was

  867. gathered to his people.

  868. Remember, Joseph wanted them. I want you

  869. to take I want you to take my bones with

  870. you when you leave Egypt. Bury them up

  871. there

  872. because what the whole point of Abraham,

  873. Isaac, and Jacob and all the other ones

  874. that came from them was we want to be

  875. buried in the promised land because

  876. we're going to inherit the promised

  877. land.

  878. It was a statement of faith that they'd

  879. be resurrected and live in the promised

  880. land.

  881. that that soul that left the body and

  882. was gathered would gather with other

  883. souls would not be the end of it but

  884. would be at some point resurrected

  885. and live in the promised land. That the

  886. promised land people would live in the

  887. promised land.

  888. Most of my Bible study is in my books

  889. but sometimes I consult the computer

  890. just for fun.

  891. And there's a thing called Bible Hub. H

  892. U B. Some of you may have used that.

  893. And I I looked up this question in Bible

  894. hunt. What does gathered to his people

  895. mean? Now, I already knew the answer to

  896. that because I've studied this for

  897. years. I the subject of individual

  898. esquetology is of a lot of interest to

  899. me and has been for a long time.

  900. But I wanted to see what Bible hub would

  901. say. And this is what whoever was

  902. writing this article in Bible. It

  903. carries connotations broader than mere

  904. physical

  905. uh physical burial. It indicates a

  906. significant transition into the realm

  907. where one's forebears have already gone.

  908. The phrase highlights a familial or

  909. kinship connection that endures beyond

  910. death pointing to a continued personal

  911. existence.

  912. That's right.

  913. But the so the Bible doesn't know

  914. anything about a continued existence

  915. just as a spirit.

  916. It is after you die between death and

  917. resurrection. You you don't have a body

  918. but you it's your human spirit departs

  919. to depart and be with Christ is far

  920. better but it's far better but it's not

  921. all you get.

  922. So it's it's a very important concept.

  923. Uh turn with me to um

  924. turn with me. This is an interesting

  925. thing. Moses died and was buried in

  926. Moab.

  927. He didn't get buried in the promised

  928. land. He didn't even get to cross and

  929. see the promises. God said, "Nope,

  930. you're not going over. Not not now.

  931. He's buried it. I want to go over the

  932. river." Nope.

  933. just let me go over the river and die.

  934. Nope.

  935. You're gonna die here. You're gonna be

  936. buried here.

  937. Now later, God let him 1500 years later,

  938. he got to go to the promised land when

  939. he visited Jesus on the Mount of

  940. Transfiguration, but immediately he

  941. didn't get to go.

  942. The fascinating thing about all of this

  943. is Moses was buried outside the

  944. ancestral burial grounds. That's

  945. Deuteronomy 34:56.

  946. Yet, it speaks of Moses being gathered

  947. to his people. Deuteronomy 32:50.

    Deuteronomy 32:50

  948. He was gathered to his people

  949. immediately when he died, even though he

  950. was going to be buried in Moab and not

  951. in the promised land. Gathered to his

  952. people does not mean you're buried in

  953. the family plot.

  954. Buried in the family plot is a testimony

  955. of I'm going to be resurrected someday.

  956. But when you die, you don't have to wait

  957. to be resurrected to be reunited with

  958. others that know the Lord.

  959. Isn't that encouraging?

  960. One second after I die, I'm going to be

  961. reunited not only with Jesus in heaven,

  962. but all those I love in heaven.

  963. All that separation's going to be over.

  964. I don't have to wait till the

  965. resurrection.

  966. And Paul said to depart and be with

  967. Christ is far better.

  968. Even to be dead and to just be with

  969. Christ is far better. And if you want to

  970. know what that reunion is like, look at

  971. Luke 16. Remember, and we always talk

  972. about the rich man or diabetes as people

  973. name him in hell. Yes, he's in hell. His

  974. his body's in a grave, but his spirit's

  975. in hell. But he looked and he saw

  976. Lazarus in Abraham's bosom. There's

  977. Lazarus having a good time with Abraham.

  978. And as proud as he was, he still thought

  979. Lazarus could be a fetch step and fetch

  980. it for him and get a some water and

  981. touch his tongue with it.

  982. But he knew better than ask to get out.

  983. Just didn't want his brothers to come to

  984. that awful place.

  985. But we see in Luke, Lazarus

  986. is in Abraham's bosom. He is reunited

  987. with Abraham whom he probably never met.

  988. So the reunion in in in the next life is

  989. going to be a fascinating event.

  990. Not only are we united with those we

  991. know, but united with those we've never

  992. met.

  993. I'm interested in meeting some of my

  994. forbears. Aren't you?

  995. Uh, I want to I had three or four

  996. William Hixons in my genealogy going

  997. back to the 1600s

  998. in England and in in pre-revolutionary

  999. war America. I'd like to meet the other

  1000. William Hixons.

1001. Just curious. I hope they made it. Hope

  1002. they're saved.

1003. Turn with me to First Thessalonians 1.

1004. And I'm not interested in the

1005. dispensational differences right now on

1006. some of these events, but I'm interested

1007. in the whole subject of death and and

1008. resurrection and the reunion that

1009. happens when Jesus comes because all

1010. that are in the graves are going to hear

  1011. his voice

  1012. and come forth.

  1013. First Thessalonians

  1014. because he's got authority

1015. over every grave, saved and unsaved.

1016. Now, in 1 Thessalonians, it talk about

1017. the saved and it says in 1 Thessalonians

1018. 4, but I would not have you to be

1019. ignorant, brethren, concerning them who

1020. are asleep. That's a terrible thing to

1021. be ignorant of individual esquetology.

1022. It robs you of so much comfort.

1023. It robs you of so much encouragement.

1024. I would not have you to be ignorant.

1025. Don't be ignorant of this. This is a

1026. subject you need to know. You need to

1027. know it well backwards and forwards both

1028. for ministry to the lost and comfort to

  1029. yourself.

1030. I would not have you to be ignorant,

1031. brethren, concerning them who are

1032. asleep. That's dead Christians. That you

1033. sorrow not even as others that have no

1034. hope. We want to deliver you from that.

1035. We sorrow as those who have hope,

1036. not as those who have.

1037. For if we believe that Jesus died and

1038. rose again, even so them who sleep in

1039. Jesus will God bring with him.

1040. For this we say to you by the word of

1041. the Lord that we who are alive and

1042. remain to the coming of the Lord shall

1043. not precede them who are asleep.

1044. And those who are asleep, that's their

1045. body that sleeps in the grave. Not.

1046. There's no soul sleep in the Bible. Your

1047. soul's awake and active after you go to

1048. be with the Lord. For the Lord himself

1049. shall descend from heaven with a shout,

1050. the voice of the archangel with the

1051. trump of God. The dead in Christ will

1052. rise first. Then we who are alive,

  1053. that's Christians who aren't dead but

1054. are alive when that happens and remain

1055. shall be caught up together with them.

1056. So the here's what happens. The souls in

1057. heaven that are Christians are going to

1058. be reunited with their bodies.

  1059. That's one reunion,

  1060. reunited with your body.

1061. Now, who wants reunited with your body

1062. if your body's decayed? The only reunion

1063. with your body you want is if it's risen

1064. better than it was ever. That's a

  1065. reuniting you want. That's a big

  1066. reunion.

1067. And so there's a reuniting with the dead

1068. believers with their dead bodies.

  1069. There's a reunited with dead believers

1070. and living believers going up to heaven

  1071. together. And there's a reuniting with

  1072. the Lord. It's a big reunion.

1073. Then we are alive and remain the caught

1074. up together with them in the clouds with

1075. them in the clouds to meet the Lord in

1076. the air. And so shall we ever be with

1077. the Lord. And if you understand biblical

  1078. esquetology, especially individual

1079. esquetology for saved people, there's

1080. incredible comfort for that. Comfort for

1081. yourself and comfort you can give

  1082. others.

1083. We retain our personal identity after

1084. death. We don't become somebody.

1085. Reincarnation has the idea, oh I'm so

1086. and so in this life and the next life I

1087. was that next previous life I was this

1088. person this and then this person. No,

  1089. that's not the program.

1090. We retain our personal identity after

  1091. death. Lazarus did

1092. got the same name. It's Lazarus.

1093. Lazarus came back as Lazarus.

1094. But Jesus came back as Jesus. Job knows

1095. after worms destroy my body yet in my

1096. flesh I'll see God whom I'll see for

  1097. myself and not another.

1098. Job come knew he was going to come back

  1099. as Job.

1100. So kind of important stuff.

1101. Now when we die our soul leaves our body

1102. to go to heaven. And 2 Corinthians 5 is

1103. a great place to study that. We'll save

  1104. that for another time.

1105. But we don't have multiple lives.

  1106. We got one life.

1107. There's only one time around.

  1108. Not multiple times around.

1109. And you only have one one life to live.

1110. One life. It starts nine months before

  1111. you were born

1112. and it ends when you pass away. We do

1113. not have multiple lives in different

1114. places or in different bodies as

  1115. different people.

  1116. It's not the program.

1117. That 12-year-old little girl, Jesus

1118. arose, she came back who she was.

1119. Lazarus came back as who he was. And

1120. that's what bothered the Sadducees so

  1121. much.

1122. Jesus came back the same as who he was.

  1123. It's I handle me and see.

1124. Now, I'm not trying to be hyperritical

1125. about reincarnation. But I if we want to

1126. have a ministry in the world, if we're

1127. to go to everybody, teach all nations,

1128. we got to teach all nations. And a lot

1129. of nations are locked into this idea.

1130. Their whole culture is based on it.

  1131. Culture is religion externalized.

1132. and the different cultures of the world.

1133. Islamic culture is one thing. Buddhist

1134. culture is another thing. Hinduist

  1135. culture is another thing.

1136. So I'm not picking on reincarnation

1137. alone this morning. I'm just saying it's

1138. one error around many that are out

1139. there. And we need to know all these

1140. things so that we can minister to

  1141. people.

  1142. Every every every

1143. religion except Christianity is based on

1144. merit theology. You earn your way

1145. rather than salvation is a gift. You

1146. can't mix these two concepts

1147. as many people do. Abraham was still

1148. Abraham 2,000 years later when Lazarus

1149. saw him and was in his bosom.

1150. And uh personal identity is retained.

  1151. Personal destiny

1152. it goes. You either go to heaven or hell

1153. but you retain your identity.

1154. Dorcas came back as Dorcas.

1155. You know what comfort that is?

  1156. Incredible comfort.

1157. Now King Herod, he wasn't much of a

1158. theologian. He had a guilty conscience

1159. and he thought Jesus was John the

  1160. Baptist. Come back.

1161. Don't take your theology from Herod for

  1162. God's sake. It's not a good thing.

1163. Guilty conscience was in overdrive.

1164. Again, John Snder said, "The two views,

  1165. that's resurrection versus

1166. reincarnation. The two ver two views of

1167. survival beyond death are simply

1168. incompatible with each other. To hold

1169. the one is naturally to oppose the

1170. other. In the same way that an atheist

1171. cannot believe in a personal god and

1172. remain an atheist and a republican

1173. cannot remain a republican and believe

1174. in monarchy. I thought he was going to

1175. say democrat but he didn't. He said

1176. monarchy because the word republican

1177. originally goes from that. And so a

  1178. Christian cannot believe in

1179. reincarnation and remain a Christian.

  1180. For the reincarnationist

  1181. all of life

1182. uh all the life and work of Christ is

  1183. irrelevant

1184. because you earn your own salvation.

1185. You learn from the past life not to do

1186. that again. You are your own savior.

1187. And you have to get reincarnated again

1188. and again and again till you learn your

1189. mistakes and then you cease to exist.

  1190. But there's no savior.

1191. All false religions are autotosoteric.

1192. You save yourself. Only Christianity is

  1193. God as the savior.

1194. In Hebrews 11 when uh Abraham

1195. body is going to have to offer off offer

1196. up Isaac as a sacrifice.

1197. What's it say about that?

1198. If I have to kill him, God will raise

  1199. him up.

1200. He did the math on that from the

1201. promises of God to him and to Isaac.

1202. No way he'll stay dead.

1203. Somehow God's going to save him. all the

  1204. promises go through him.

1205. He didn't know how God was going to do

1206. it, but he kind of surmised, well, I

1207. guess I'm going to offer him up and

1208. God's going to save him because the

1209. promises of God are in him.

1210. And he helped learn, it helped him learn

  1211. the resurrection.

1212. He learned it, I believe, partially when

  1213. Sarah died,

1214. but he learned it in a better way when

1215. he had to offer up Isaac, which God

  1216. stopped him.

1217. So, just because resurrection and

1218. reincarnation are kind of spelled the

  1219. same,

1220. so is goat or boat,

  1221. one letter difference.

1222. But that one letter is a big difference.

  1223. don't mind taking a ride on a lake in a

1224. boat. And I wouldn't want to try it with

  1225. a goat.

  1226. All people everywhere

1227. need to hear the message about Jesus,

1228. his incarnation, his perfect life, his

1229. victory, his paying for our sins on the

1230. cross, and his resurrection. Go into all

1231. the world and preach the gospel to every

  1232. creature.

  1233. And

1234. Jesus when he comes back is not going to

  1235. be somebody else.

1236. It says in Acts one, the angel said when

1237. he was ascending, this same Jesus,

  1238. this same Jesus.

1239. And everybody that's resurrected to life

  1240. will be the same.

1241. Because that's what resurrection is.

1242. will not turn into somebody else. I'll

1243. be somebody in this life and somebody

1244. else in the next life, somebody else in

1245. the next life, and then finally I'll

1246. escape and cease to exist. No, that's

1247. not the program. Resurrection prepares

1248. us for the next life which is forever.

1249. Hebrews chapter 13:8 says, "Jesus Christ

  1250. the same yesterday,

  1251. today,

  1252. and forever.

1253. And our bodies are going to be conformed

1254. to his glorious body. Won't become him,

1255. but we will become like him. He's

  1256. immortal. We'll be immortal.

  1257. He's incorruptible. We'll be

  1258. incorruptible. Unable to die.

  1259. and able to age.

  1260. Looking forward to

1261. so Matthew 27 or excuse me 28. All

1262. people everywhere need to hear this

1263. message. Paul's alternative message and

1264. satanic lies are filling the world and

  1265. they have consequences.

1266. They have consequences. Our country is

1267. in a battle now with Iran

  1268. now.

  1269. They're doing what they're doing because

1270. they're trying to earn salvation.

1271. They believe in a merit theology. If I

1272. die for Allah, I'm in.

  1273. That is so backward.

1274. And what a shame it is. I feel bad for

1275. the people who've embraced that. Not

1276. just for them, but for the people that

1277. they murder themselves in the name of

1278. their idea of serving God.

1279. It's wrong. I'm not saying America is

1280. always right because America is not very

1281. Christian either. But having said that,

  1282. thank God.

1283. And the world doesn't just need American

1284. troops going around fighting people.

  1285. The world needs missionaries

  1286. going around reaching people.

1287. Jesus said, "All authority is given me

  1288. in heaven and earth."

1289. But Palm Sunday Jesus is the Easter J.

1290. The Easter Jesus is the savior.

  1291. He has all authority

1292. over every country, over every

  1293. individual,

  1294. over every government.

  1295. a new person.

1296. He wants us to go

1297. teach all nations. Number one, baptizing

1298. them in the name of the Father, the Son,

1299. and the Holy Spirit. Number two, the

1300. triune God. Not just any God, not some

  1301. generic God.

1302. Teaching them to observe all things

1303. whatsoever I've commanded you, though

1304. I'm with you always, even to the end of

  1305. the age.

1306. Father, we thank you for what we looked

1307. at today and challenge us.

1308. Uh we we want to teach this this Palm

1309. Sunday simply because the resurrection

1310. of Christ is not something for us to

  1311. just believe for ourselves

1312. so that we can be comforted and we can

  1313. be saved.

1314. It's something we're to spread to others

1315. who don't know about it,

  1316. who've embraced

  1317. other satanic lies

1318. that are locking them into

  1319. desperate deception.

1320. We know in our own country there are so

1321. many that are desperately deceived. Some

1322. are in false forms of Christianity. Some

1323. are in false religion. Some are in false

  1324. philosophy.

1325. They all need the gospel.

1326. Our own children need the gospel.

1327. Our grandchildren need the gospel. Our

  1328. neighbors

  1329. or friends.

1330. So bless us as we go from this place.

1331. And may we say with the people in the on

1332. Palm Sunday so long ago, may we bless

1333. God for the son of David who's coming in

1334. the name of the Lord. Amen.

1335. Stand. Turn to face to

  1336. go from this place.

1337. Loving you more, trusting you more.

1338. May the power of your love and the light

1339. of your word shine to a sin, darkened

1340. world. As we go from this place,
