  1. of Israel.

  2. Um, another title here of the of the

  3. spirit of God is the spirit of the

  4. living God. Now, we've looked at this

  5. one. I I'll just reference this one. It

  6. was in 2 Corinthians chapter 3 and verse

    2 Corinthians 3 chapter mention

  7. 6. And right there, Paul made a great

  8. contrast

  9. between what the law could do and what

  10. the spirit could do and what the gospel

  11. can do. So, there's a great contrast.

  12. That's why we're, you know, we're not

  13. under a law, but we're under grace.

  14. That's why we preach the gospel, and we

  15. don't preach the law. You know, we need

  16. the law to bring men to Christ to

  17. condemn them, you know. So, it has its

  18. place. But, uh, you know, God is a he he

  19. is real, isn't he? And that's what we

  20. want. We want to tell men he's real. We

  21. want to preach the gospel and tell them

  22. that God loves them and and Christ died

  23. for them. So there was a great contrast

  24. there between the law and and uh the

  25. gospel.

  26. And as well we looked at Ezekiel 37.

  27. Remember that section there where the

  28. God breathed and the the bones came to

  29. life. So, another example of of the Holy

  30. Spirit in the Old Testament accompanying

  31. the gospel and accompanying Christ so

  32. that we might know who God is and that

  33. we might know the gospel. And you know,

  34. the church is not in the Old Testament.

  35. You know, we know that you can't find it

  36. there

  37. um at all. But the new birth is,

  38. you know, the new birth is in the Old

  39. Testament and we've seen it and we're

  40. going to see it again today hopefully.

  41. But, you know, that's what God wants us

  42. to do. He wants us to go on and have a

  43. relationship with him, you know, and and

  44. many people, you know, that's where they

  45. stop.

  46. They stop when they get saved and they

  47. they understand the gospel and they're

  48. born again and, you know, then they

  49. stop. They don't go on with God, you

  50. know, that's, you know, they don't take

  51. God serious. They don't take the word of

  52. God serious. They don't look at, you

  53. know, you know, going on with with God

  54. in the Lord with the with this great

  55. salvation that God has given to us. And

  56. that's what Hebrews says. You know, we

  57. woe to those who, you know, who neglect

  58. so great a salvation.

  59. So God doesn't want us to neglect this.

  60. He wants us to go on. You know, it's

  61. it's similar to you. How many people

  62. know God as the creator?

  63. You know, you talk to him and I talk to

  64. him. You know, they'll agree with you,

  65. you know, 100% that God's the creator,

  66. but try to go into redemption. Try to go

  67. into the cross. Try to grow into, you

  68. know, we need to be born again. We need

  69. to be saved. This great God has died for

  70. us. Do you know about God's plan of

  71. redemption? And that's where a lot of

  72. people draw the line and say, "I want to

  73. believe in God, but I don't want to

  74. believe all that."

  75. So that's what the spirit does. He takes

  76. us deeper into the deeper things of God

  77. that we might know what else is freely

  78. um given to us. You know, these things

  79. are these things are so important. I got

  80. a good quote here from Toer.

  81. He said, "It is scarcely possible in

  82. most places to get anyone to attend a

  83. meeting where the only attraction is

  84. God."

  85. Men just don't want to be uh bothered

  86. with God. They don't want to be bothered

  87. with his word. They don't want to be

  88. bothered with salvation.

  89. But that's what God doesn't want us to

  90. do. He doesn't want us just to know

  91. about creation and not go on or know

  92. about redemption and not go on. Those

  93. are important things uh for the Holy

  94. Spirit to reveal to us and help us you

  95. know to see. And you know the the

  96. Pharisees and the Sadducees this

  97. happened to them in the Gospels.

  98. Remember you know Moses. Yeah. Okay.

  99. Well yeah Moses we follow Moses. Uh yeah

  100. David Yeah. we follow David, this Jesus,

  101. no, we don't want to follow him. You

  102. know, he's he's going to die and pay for

  103. our sins. Well, we have to get past all

  104. those things to understand this great uh

  105. redemption plan, this great thing that

  106. God he has done for us. It is so

  107. important. Turn over to Romans chapter

    Romans 8 chapter mention

  108. 8. I'm going to get a couple there.

  109. Romans chapter 8.

    Romans 8 chapter mention

  110. This is a great book. This is a great

  111. chapter.

  112. And these are great truths here for us.

  113. And there's quite a bit in Romans

    Romans 8 chapter mention

  114. chapter 8 about the Holy Spirit. You

  115. want to learn more about the Holy

  116. Spirit, just read this chapter over and

  117. over. There's a lot here

  118. um for us. But in chapter 8

  119. and verse 9 here, we have two

  120. of these names.

  121. He says, "You're not in the flesh, but

  122. in the spirit. If so be that the spirit

  123. of God dwells in you. Now, if any man

  124. have not the spirit of Christ, he is

  125. none of his." So here Paul says the

  126. spirit of God and the spirit of Christ

  127. in the same verse. We can see two of

  128. these names

  129. um for us. And you know what a contrast

  130. between our flesh

  131. and the Holy Spirit.

  132. Why why would we if we've got God in us?

  133. If we got the spirit of God in us, we've

  134. got a divine being in us who's going to

  135. help us walk. He's not going to let us

  136. live in sin, at least not, and be

  137. comfortable.

  138. So, that's the contrast here. We have

  139. the spirit of God and the spirit of

  140. Christ um dwelling within us. So, that's

  141. what the new birth does. It it brings to

  142. us the spirit of God. And remember, he

  143. go back to chapter 6,

  144. Romans,

  145. this is still true in verse 23. The

  146. wages of sin is death. If you're a

  147. believer or an unbeliever,

  148. but the gift of God

  149. is eternal life. That's what we need

  150. through Jesus Christ our Lord. It's a

  151. gift. The gift of the Holy Spirit. You

  152. know what? You know, why would we want

  153. to go back under the flesh when God has

  154. given to us this great gift of the Holy

  155. Spirit?

  156. So that's what the scripture teaches us

  157. is that you know now we can you know

  158. we're not under the law. You know we can

  159. you know we can we can forget about

  160. Moses. We got Jesus. You know what don't

  161. do away with the law. I'm not saying

  162. that. I'm saying you know don't follow

  163. Moses. We've got Christ to follow. And

  164. that's what Paul says here in Romans.

  165. And you know that's what the scripture

  166. teaches us for us to be like Christ,

  167. you know, and to be like Christ, we need

  168. the gift of the Holy Spirit. We need the

  169. new birth. Those things are all here uh

  170. in the book of Romans. And we need to be

  171. adopted. And that's this great spirit of

  172. adoption, the spirit of Christ and the

  173. spirit of God that God has given to us.

  174. So, you know, our our flesh is

  175. condemned.

  176. Our old nature is condemned. Our old

  177. Adam is condemned. And we need the

  178. spirit of God. And that's what Jesus

  179. did. Remember we referenced that last

  180. week when he was in the upper room and

  181. they were he was together with the

  182. apostles and he breathed on them and

  183. said, "Receive ye the Holy Spirit."

  184. So the breath of Jesus

  185. was the Holy Spirit there uh in that

  186. particular context. So

  187. he is the answer to the dilemma that we

  188. are in after we're saved.

  189. Turn over to Acts chapter 2.

    Acts 2 chapter mention

  190. Acts chapter 2. We have Peter's sermon

    Acts 2 chapter mention

  191. here.

  192. and and it's right after what he says up

  193. there about the spirit being poured out

  194. uh in the in the church age upon the

  195. church upon the nation of Israel in

  196. Jerusalem to begin with and we have

  197. Peter's sermon here

  198. uh it goes all the way down to verse 36.

  199. So Acts chapter 22 vers sorry chapter 2

    Acts 22 chapter mention

  200. verse 22

  201. is where I'm at. I'm not going to read

  202. all this

  203. um for time sake, but

  204. um some highlights if you will look in

  205. verse 34,

  206. I'm sorry, verse 33.

  207. For therefore, being at the right hand

  208. of God, exalted,

  209. and having received of the Father the

  210. promise of the Holy Spirit. So there's

  211. there's the name of the Holy Spirit. The

  212. promise of the Holy Spirit

  213. and he has shed forth and you will now

  214. see and hear for David didn't ascend

  215. into heaven by himself.

  216. The Lord did sit on my right hand shall

  217. I make your enemies your foottool. Psalm

  218. 110. Therefore, let all the house of

  219. Israel know assuredly that God has made

  220. this same Jesus who you crucified both

  221. Lord and Christ. And the point of this

  222. text is the promise up there of the Holy

  223. Spirit. That's one of my favorite ones

  224. to remember that the Holy Spirit's a

  225. promise. You know, he's not something

  226. that we earn. God doesn't say, "Okay,

  227. you you know, you guys been good boys

  228. for a week. I'm going to give you the

  229. Holy Spirit."

  230. That's not the way it works. The spirit

  231. brings faith. The spirit brings the new

  232. birth. The spirit brings us regeneration

  233. that we all need. And um that's who

  234. Peter's referring to here.

  235. And you know, we he didn't come to to

  236. resuscitate our old flesh,

  237. you know, under the law. No, we uh we

  238. get a brand new start, don't we? The new

  239. creation, the new man that Paul talks

  240. about. So, um, the Holy Spirit is the

  241. promise, the father, the father's

  242. promise from the father, the promise of

  243. the holy spirit.

  244. There we go. So, turn over to

  245. Philippians chapter 1.

    Philippians 1 chapter mention

  246. Jesus needed the Holy Spirit.

  247. And and and then we see that so did

  248. Peter and so did John

  249. and and you know the ladies, you know,

  250. everyone that was a disciple of Jesus.

  251. He said, "Go and wait.

  252. Wait on the promise from the father."

  253. There's another time that Jesus said the

  254. promise from the father. What was the

  255. promise from the father was and is God

  256. the holy spirit.

  257. And he and you're going to do what?

  258. You're going to witness. Now, that's his

  259. primary

  260. uh purpose.

  261. The father sent Jesus. Jesus died for

  262. our sins according to the scriptures.

  263. And now God sends the Holy Spirit to be

  264. a witness of these things

  265. and to work in the early church. Without

  266. this, we wouldn't have a church.

  267. And and that's how Jesus can say the

  268. gates of hell will not prevail against

  269. my church. How and why? Because every

  270. Christian has a member of the trinity

  271. dwelling within them. Greater is he that

  272. is in you than he that is in the world.

  273. So we have a member of the trinity

  274. dwelling within us to help us

  275. to be a witness and to know

  276. about this salvation. And even Paul, you

  277. know, with all his training and all his

  278. understanding, he needed the Holy

  279. Spirit. And he received the Holy Spirit

  280. when he was saved. That's when the Holy

  281. Spirit comes when we are born again.

  282. And now here Paul sometime later in Phil

  283. in Philippians chapter 1 in verse 19 he

    Philippians 1 chapter mention

  284. says for I know that this shall turn to

  285. my salvation through your prayers and

  286. supply

  287. of the spirit of Jesus Christ. There's

  288. that. There's the There's the title

  289. again. The spirit of Jesus Christ is

  290. dwelling in Paul.

  291. According to my earnest expectation and

  292. my hope, in nothing I will be ashamed,

  293. but that with all boldness, as always,

  294. so now in Christ, he shall be magnified

  295. in my body, whether by life or by death.

  296. So here we see a real good example in

  297. the Apostle Paul of the spirit of Jesus

  298. Christ being in him in the ministry to

  299. help him not to be ashamed to be bold

  300. and and to do all these things that he's

  301. talking about here and then he you know

  302. his famous verse for me to live as

  303. Christ to die is gain that's where Paul

  304. was at uh with all these things. So he

  305. was trusting and you know there was a

  306. great witness in Paul.

  307. Um and Paul was a a great proclaimer

  308. in the early church and the reason being

  309. was because God the Holy Spirit was upon

  310. him to help him with the word of God and

  311. with the gospel

  312. and Paul was born from above like um

  313. Jesus told Nicodemus that he needed to

  314. be. So here we see the spirit of Christ

  315. assisting Paul greatly in the ministry.

  316. Turn to Galatians 4.

  317. And like Paul told the Romans,

  318. the spirit is in us to, you know, let us

  319. know we've been adopted.

  320. We're not orphans.

  321. You know, God didn't save us and leave

  322. us in the orphanage.

  323. He saved us and put us in the kingdom of

  324. his son.

  325. And then he's put the spirit in us for a

  326. great reason.

  327. And here in Galatians 4

  328. and verse 6, he says this, "Because you

  329. are sons, who made us sons?" Did we make

  330. ourselves sons? No. God did. Did we make

  331. ourselves children of God? No. God did.

  332. And he did it through the Holy Spirit.

  333. He brought the new birth about him.

  334. And he didn't leave us.

  335. Um, now we can look at God in a whole

  336. different light.

  337. He says, "God has sent forth the spirit

  338. of his son." There's that word. Into our

  339. hearts crying, "Aba, Father. Wherefore

  340. you're no more a servant

  341. but a son. So if you know you're a son

  342. and not a servant, it's because of the

  343. Holy Spirit.

  344. If you know you're an heir of God

  345. through Christ, if you know these

  346. things, it is the Holy Spirit that has

  347. helped us with this. So he comes in us

  348. and witnesses to us and and helps us see

  349. from the word of God these things that

  350. are freely given to us of God.

  351. You know, salvation and the airship and

  352. we're sons. I mean, that's, you know,

  353. somebody used to have that list of 33

  354. things that happened to us the moment we

  355. were saved, you know, and that's that's

  356. so true. There's so much happened to us

  357. the moment

  358. that we were saved.

  359. and and the spirit keeps us in in the

  360. freedom of Christ. Paul goes on over

  361. here to say in chapter 5,

  362. he says in verse one,

  363. "Stand fast, therefore, in the liberty

  364. with which Christ has made us free."

  365. You know, Christ made us free

  366. and and the spirit has come and helped

  367. us understand that freedom and be not

  368. entangled again to the yoke of bondage.

  369. We're not under the law. Um

  370. we are in the in the spirit and walking

  371. in the spirit.

  372. So if you have assurance

  373. and the word of God

  374. comforts you uh and and and God can

  375. speak to you through his word and

  376. comfort you and and and bring these

  377. great truths to us. It's the Holy Spirit

  378. in us that helps us to know these things

  379. to know what Jesus accomplished,

  380. you know, and and he we he has made us

  381. sons. Nothing we've done and everything

  382. he's done. And then Paul says, "Stand

  383. fast in this in this liberty." Turn over

  384. to Mark chapter 10.

    Mark 10 chapter mention

  385. Mark

    Mark 10:35

  386. chapter 10

  387. verse 35.

  388. You know, this is probably an an event

  389. that

  390. Jesus apostles wish wasn't in the Bible,

  391. but it's here.

  392. And if if Peter helped Mark write this

  393. book, then Peter's writing on himself

  394. here, telling us what happened. And you

  395. remember what Jesus said about the

  396. promise of the father.

  397. you know, they they don't have the Holy

  398. Spirit yet, but they will have the Holy

  399. Spirit. You know, they don't know about

  400. all the trials. They don't they don't

  401. even know about what Jesus is going to

  402. do yet, much less come to grips with it.

  403. So, while Jesus is trying to explain to

  404. them the deeper things of God, they're

  405. worried about themselves.

  406. And James and John, the sons of Zebedee,

  407. came unto him, saying, 'Master, what

  408. would we do that we might have uh that

  409. that we would that you should do for us

  410. whatever we desire? You know, come on,

  411. Jesus. Jesus, just you know, give us

  412. three wishes or just give us one wish.

  413. And Jesus said, you you don't know what

  414. you're asking for.

  415. And they said unto him, "Grant that we

  416. may sit one on the right hand and the

  417. other on the left hand in glory." And

  418. Jesus said unto them, "You know not what

  419. you ask.

  420. Can you drink the cup which I am

  421. baptized with and the baptism with I am

  422. baptized with?" So, you know, Jesus had

  423. the Holy Spirit. God had a father had

  424. already given the Holy Spirit to him.

  425. These men had not yet received the Holy

  426. Spirit. So here they are, you know,

  427. wanting to be one on the right and one

  428. on the left. And Jesus is talking about

  429. his suffering and dying. You know,

  430. that's what he wants them to know.

  431. That's what he wants them to participate

  432. in. He doesn't want them to be great. He

  433. wants them to be servants and

  434. proclaimers of this.

  435. And they said, "We can." And then he

  436. says in here in verse 39, you will

  437. indeed drink of the cup that I drink of,

  438. but with the baptism that I am baptized

  439. with, will you be baptized, but to set

  440. it on the right hand and on the left,

  441. it's not mine to give. It will be given

  442. to them to whom it is prepared. So Jesus

  443. is saying, yeah, you're going to, you

  444. know, these apostles, every one of them

  445. suffered greatly and died for Jesus.

  446. Little did they know then that these

  447. things were going to happen. And when

  448. these things happened, the Holy Spirit

  449. came and helped them uh get through

  450. these things. That's that was the

  451. baptism that he was baptized with.

  452. Um turn over to Romans chapter 1.

    Romans 1 chapter mention

  453. So the apostles had some unholy moments

  454. there.

  455. And you know, they tell us about these

  456. things so that we'll know that we may

  457. experience the same thing. Maybe we're

  458. we're going to say what Peter said,

  459. "Lord, not so. I'm not going to let him

  460. kill you. I'm not going to let him

  461. crucify you."

  462. And then he went on to deny him.

  463. But we need, we all need that ministry

  464. of the Holy Spirit. Whether we're

  465. apostles or disciples or you know then

  466. or now things aren't different for them

  467. and something different for us. What

  468. they relied on we rely on. They relied

  469. on the Holy Spirit and the word of God

  470. and we rely on the Holy Spirit and the

  471. word of God and one another.

  472. But here in Romans 1:4 he says

    Romans 1:4

  473. and declared to be the son of God with

  474. power according

  475. to the spirit of holiness. that that

  476. King James has a small s there, but that

  477. should be a that's the Holy Spirit. He's

  478. the author

  479. of holiness. He's holy.

  480. So the Holy Spirit is in us is that's

  481. another name for the spirit. He's holy.

  482. So God put the Holy Spirit in us right

  483. next to our flesh,

  484. you know, but that's God's gift.

  485. And he's here to help us with these

  486. things. Turn to First Peter chapter 1.

    1 Peter 1 chapter mention

  487. First Peter,

    1 Peter 1 chapter mention

  488. chapter 1.

  489. the spirit of God and the word of God

  490. and prayer and the church,

  491. you know, they made the apostles holy.

  492. Um, they recovered from from these

  493. things. And Paul, a murderer,

  494. he recovered from those things.

  495. And here Peter tells us

  496. in verse one, Peter an apostle of Jesus

  497. Christ to the sojourers scattered

  498. throughout Pontius Galatia

  499. Capadencia,

  500. Asia and Bethia.

  501. So you know the spirit of God is for

  502. this is challenges for everyone.

  503. God wants every single person that has

  504. been born again. There's not one person

  505. that's exempt

  506. from growing and and being holy like

  507. Christ.

  508. And he says, "Elect according to the

  509. fornowledge of God."

  510. And he the father

  511. and through the sanctification of the

  512. spirit

  513. unto obedience

  514. and the sprinkling of the blood of Jesus

  515. Christ, grace be on you and peace be

  516. multiplied. Here we see that the spirit

  517. he is the sanctifying one of the

  518. trinity.

  519. Remember when God the father has a will,

  520. God the son has a will and God the holy

  521. spirit has a will and his will is to

  522. make us like Jesus Christ the other

  523. member of the trinity as we obey

  524. and uh do these things that God has laid

  525. out for us.

  526. Isaiah chapter 40 or excuse me, chapter

    Isaiah 40 chapter mention

  527. 4. Isaiah chapter 4,

    Isaiah 4 chapter mention

  528. the spirit of holiness. That was the the

  529. last one if I didn't mention that. He is

  530. holy and he can make us holy.

  531. No job too tough for him.

  532. Look at Paul. Look at Peter.

  533. Look at these men that failed.

  534. God, the Holy Spirit was in them. And

  535. the word of God they had, the prayer

  536. they had, one another, they had.

  537. Uh here we have

  538. the spirit

  539. of judgment.

  540. You know when that's what

  541. uh Jesus said in John chapter 16.

    John 16 chapter mention

  542. Remember the spirit was going to come

  543. and and that was one of the things that

  544. Jesus said in judgment.

  545. So

  546. that's good.

  547. If we saw our sin and we repented

  548. or we repented and we saw our sin and we

  549. believed on Christ and now we take sin

  550. seriously

  551. and we never before.

  552. How could that happen? We didn't stumble

  553. onto this. God the Holy Spirit was given

  554. to us and sent to us by the father. the

  555. promise from the father. And

  556. as I said before, the church is not in

  557. the old testament,

  558. but the new birth is. Here's another

  559. verse

  560. about the new birth.

  561. This is

  562. this is what Nicodemus should have

  563. known.

  564. This is why he should have said, "Yay,

  565. Lord, I know Isaiah 4:4, I know you

    Isaiah 4:4

  566. washed away the filth of the daughters

  567. of Zion. You purged them by the blood of

  568. Jerusalem from the um uh the midst of

  569. the spirit of justice and by the spirit

  570. of burning." So, here we see the Holy

  571. Spirit is the spirit of justice and the

  572. spirit of burning.

  573. And he burns against sin

  574. and he's in us. And that's that's what

  575. helps us with our sin. As the Holy

  576. Spirit doesn't like sin, he he's not

  577. going to let us wander off in sin and

  578. stay there.

  579. And here we have

  580. the uh the new birth in the Old

  581. Testament. So the law the law is the

  582. justice of God. You know, that's what

  583. you know, people that think they're

  584. going to that aren't saved

  585. and you get a chance to talk to them and

  586. you say, "Where you going to go when you

  587. die?" And they say, "Heaven." You say,

  588. "Why?" And they say, "Well, I'm a good

  589. person." Oh, you are? Well, have you

  590. heard about the commandments of God?

  591. Thou shalt not steal. Thou shalt not

  592. lie. You know, all the thou shalt not.

  593. You know, that's the justice of God.

  594. That's the burning of God. That's the

  595. holiness of God.

  596. And when we saw our sin and the Holy

  597. Spirit helped us, you know, by the by

  598. the goodness of God, he leads us to

  599. repentance. That's what Romans chapter 2

    Romans 2 chapter mention

  600. says.

  601. So the law is the justice of God. But

  602. here we see redemption.

  603. Here we see um the reconciliation.

  604. And again, this is what Nicodemus should

  605. have known. Oh, you're a teacher of

  606. Israel and you don't know about the new

  607. birth. It's here, Nicodemus. And right

  608. there, we see it.

  609. So, you know, that's what the Holy

  610. Spirit does. It,

  611. you know, he Paul says in Hebrews about

  612. the searching,

  613. you know, that's what he's talking about

  614. here. The Holy Spirit, he searches our

  615. minds. He searches our hearts. He

  616. searches our conscience. He searches our

  617. motives

  618. and this is the spirit of justice and

  619. the spirit

  620. of burning. And it's a good thing. How

  621. would you We don't want to be left to

  622. our sin. We don't want to be left

  623. unsaved, do we? So, you know, the Holy

  624. Spirit is the spirit of burning, the

  625. spirit of justice, as he says here

  626. in uh chapter 14.

  627. And let's go to John chapter 14.

    John 14 chapter mention

  628. Now we have the spirit of truth.

  629. So when Jesus is talking about the

  630. spirit and and the spirit's going to

  631. come and convict us of our sins and all

  632. those things that Jesus told them in the

  633. upper room, these are the very verses

  634. that indicate that was going to happen

  635. in the Old Testament way before it

  636. happened

  637. in John chapter

    John 14 chapter mention

  638. 14.

  639. Now I think this is one of my favorites.

  640. the spirit of promise and and this is

  641. the spirit of truth.

  642. And remember what he said back there in

  643. Isaiah chapter 11 when we started about

    Isaiah 11 chapter mention

  644. knowledge and you know everything and

  645. everything Jesus spoke. He's God. So

  646. it's you know write it down.

  647. It's uh

  648. it's going to happen every dot jot and

  649. tit.

  650. And we have a lot of

  651. red got a red letter Bible. There's a

  652. lot here in John 14.

  653. 15 and 16 about these things. And I just

  654. want to touch on them as we've we've

  655. looked at some of these before, but in

  656. John chapter 14

    John 14 chapter mention

  657. and verse 17 here, he Jesus calls him

  658. the spirit of truth.

  659. And Jesus is the logos.

  660. The spirit is the logos helper.

  661. So we have the logos, we have um the

  662. spirit in us, a spirit of truth as well.

  663. He says the world can't receive. Yeah.

  664. He's not going to go dwell in these

  665. these unsaved

  666. people, but he will come to those who

  667. are saved. He's the spirit of truth

  668. who the world cannot receive because it

  669. sees him not, neither knows him. No,

  670. that's the difference. We didn't earn

  671. something. We know God. We know God

  672. through his son. We know God through the

  673. new birth. We know God through Jesus.

  674. He's the way. He's the truth. And he's

  675. the life as he said over there.

  676. So he's our he's our savior. He's our

  677. redeemer.

  678. So now God can help us with this walk

  679. down here in this wicked world by giving

  680. to us his word and his spirit.

  681. And that's what he and I will not leave

  682. you comfortless. I will come to you. So,

  683. we're comforted by God's word. I mean,

  684. how many times, you know, have you been

  685. stressed out or maybe not stressed out,

  686. but had a bad day or a bad week or a bad

  687. month and you sat down and opened up

  688. God's word and bingo, you heard what you

  689. needed to hear. That's not a

  690. coincidence.

  691. That's the spirit in us.

  692. That's the Holy Spirit in us. That's the

  693. word of God before us. So God brings us

  694. comfort through his truth. Even though

  695. he's just and holy and and all consuming

  696. and all searching and all those great

  697. things that we've seen in Isaiah, God is

  698. as well a God of comfort

  699. and a God of truth.

  700. Think if you will in John 15.

  701. But when the comforter is come,

  702. now here we have Jesus who's God calling

  703. the spirit the comforter and he uses the

  704. word the paricletus or whatever it is

  705. in the Greek,

  706. but I I better know what it is that

  707. because that's what Jesus calls God

  708. here, the comforter spirit.

  709. So in English, he's the comforter. Now I

  710. can say that now I know what he is.

  711. And he says has come. So see he's not

  712. here yet. He will come

  713. and I will send him from the father even

  714. the spirit of truth who proceeds from

  715. the father.

  716. He shall testify

  717. of me and you will bear witnesses.

  718. So that's our that's the spirits. You

  719. know we have the father sent the and

  720. sent the son and now here Jesus has sent

  721. the spirit. The father has sent the

  722. spirit and his primary function is to

  723. testify of Jesus

  724. and the truth

  725. and bring us comfort.

  726. Now turn over to chapter 16

  727. and verse 13.

  728. John 16:13, "Nevertheless,

    John 16:13

  729. when he, the Spirit of truth

  730. is come,

  731. he will guide you into all truth."

  732. So, he's a guide. You know, the spirit,

  733. you know, he's a guide. Don't try to go

  734. to Alaska without a guide.

  735. You will not make it. It's mandatory up

  736. there. People go up there and think they

  737. know how to hunt. They know how to go do

  738. this and know how to do that. We did we

  739. did well down the lower 48. Now we'll go

  740. up here and see if we can do well. And

  741. they find people dead up there every

  742. spring that wandered off.

  743. The guide up there told me, he said,

  744. "Welcome to Alaska where everything will

  745. kill you."

  746. He got my attention.

  747. And we need a guide.

  748. We need a guide in this life. We need a

  749. guide for everything that we do. And God

  750. says, "I'll sign up for that." And God

  751. gave us the Holy Spirit.

  752. And he says, "Nevertheless, when the

  753. Spirit of truth has come, he will guide

  754. you into all truth.

  755. The sufficiency of the scripture, the

  756. sufficiency of our salvation, the

  757. sufficiency of truth. Why do people not

  758. listen?

  759. He will not speak of himself. Whatever

  760. he he will hear that he will speak and

  761. he will show you things to come. You

  762. know, God knows all our circumstances.

  763. That's amazing to me.

  764. You know, I'm amazed that he knows my

  765. circumstances, but on top of that, he

  766. knows yours and yours and and

  767. everyone's, no matter where we are, if

  768. we're a believer, no matter what we're

  769. going through,

  770. he's personal to Holy Spirit. And he'd

  771. have to be God to be a person and to be

  772. personable

  773. like Jesus is talking about here. And

  774. he's going to glorify me. He will

  775. receive of mine and he will show it unto

  776. you. He's going to guide. He's going to

  777. teach. He's going to show all these

  778. things that Jesus says. All things that

  779. the father has are mine.

  780. And we don't need anything but Jesus

  781. when it comes to salvation.

  782. I know we need to, you know, we need the

  783. water baptism is important. I know

  784. church membership is important. I know

  785. there's a lot of things that are

  786. important, but none of those have

  787. anything to do with our salvation.

  788. Our salvation was completely and totally

  789. accomplished

  790. by Jesus. And that's what the Holy

  791. Spirit wants us to know

  792. uh in these great verses. So, he's the

  793. author of the truth. Wouldn't it be nice

  794. to go back and talk to Mr. Lincoln after

  795. you read one of his autobiographies?

  796. You know, Mr. Lincoln, what did what

  797. happened here? What happened there?

  798. Well, I don't know if he's going to be

  799. in heaven or not, but that's impossible

  800. to do in this life. But not so with this

  801. book.

  802. We can go back and talk to the author.

  803. We can pray to the author

  804. and we can worship the author

  805. of this great book that we have.

  806. So you we've had some of the names of

  807. the spirit of God and I'm running out of

  808. time. Turn back to Psalm

  809. 150.

  810. >> 150. Yeah. Psalm

  811. I didn't say 151 because there's only

  812. 150 for the last time I looked. Anyway,

  813. Psalm 150. Thank you, John.

  814. This book of Psalms is is about praising

  815. God.

  816. Wherever you are, whatever you're doing,

  817. it is it is an important part of what we

  818. do. And the the Holy Spirit plays a part

  819. in our worship of God. How can you

  820. worship a God that you don't know?

  821. That's what the folks were doing in

  822. Athens. Paul says, "You guys are

  823. worshiping an unknown God. You don't

  824. even know this God." And and there are

  825. other people that only know God as

  826. creator.

  827. You know, well, go yeah, God's a good

  828. creator, but boy, I can see creation.

  829. And they they'll give him that much

  830. credit, but they won't go any further

  831. and say, "God's my redeemer."

  832. Well, that's where the church is. You

  833. know, we know God's our creator, but we

  834. also know God is our redeemer.

  835. He purchased us with his own blood.

  836. He died for us to take away our sins.

  837. If there's anybody that should

  838. appreciate God's redemption, it should

  839. be those who are redeemed.

  840. And that's what verse what uh Psalm 150

  841. here says.

  842. Praise ye the Lord.

  843. There's there is one psalm, every verse

  844. is about is praise. It's this one.

  845. Praise ye the Lord. Praise God in his

  846. sanctuary. Praise him in the firmament

  847. of his power. Praise him for his mighty

  848. acts. Praise him according to his

  849. excellent greatness. Some folks have no

  850. clue what God's excellent greatness is.

  851. And if you do, and I do, then we've got

  852. a reason to praise God.

  853. And praise him with the sound of the

  854. trumpet. Praise him with the salty in

  855. the heart. Praise him with the the the

  856. tremble, the dance. And praise him with

  857. stringed instruments and flutes. Praise

  858. him upon the loud symbols. Praise him

  859. upon the high sounding s symbols. Let

  860. everything that has breath praise the

  861. Lord. Praise ye the Lord. That's what

  862. heaven's all about. Praising a God who

  863. not only created the heavens and the

  864. earth, but a God who come to earth and

  865. died for our sins and through his blood

  866. made us wretched sinners, clean as clean

  867. and holy as Jesus.

  868. Let's pray. Father, we thank you this

  869. morning. Lord Jesus, we thank you this

  870. morning. And Holy Spirit, we thank you

  871. this morning for the great truths of the

  872. scripture

  873. and uh they bring us comfort. They bring

  874. us hope. They bring us assurance. We

  875. thank you for these things. Thank you

  876. for our precious savior and this great

  877. gift of redemption that you've given to

  878. us filthy sinners. All our

  879. righteousnesses are as filthy rags. We

  880. thank you for the blood of Christ shed

  881. for us. Help us to be a greater witness

  882. in our own selves and in the world

  883. around us. We pray in Jesus name.

  884. Lord, as we go from this place,

  885. loving you more,

  886. trusting you more.

  887. May the power of your love and the light

  888. of your word shine

  889. to a sin darkened world.

  890. As we go from this place,
