  1. Don't ask.

  2. >> Yeah.

  3. >> Well, at least our president's still

  4. with us.

  5. >> Keep praying for him.

  6. Set a record.

  7. >> Amazing country we're living in.

  8. But uh

  9. I guess we can say let not our hearts be

  10. troubled with all the problems.

  11. We can trust in God's word just like the

  12. song says.

  13. This morning we're going to look at uh

  14. we've been got a series that

  15. we're looking at um important sound

  16. doctrines.

  17. And this morning we're going to look at

  18. a term called divine provision.

  19. Divine provision.

  20. Some of you probably know where that's

  21. at.

  22. Turn to John chapter 15.

    John 15 chapter mention

  23. Where we're going to start out this

  24. morning.

  25. How did we get the New Testament?

  26. and a lot of other things. Here we have

  27. specifically in John 15 verse 26

    John 15:26

  28. referring

  29. to the who here

  30. in this verse is God the Holy Spirit

  31. and we

  32. don't need to struggle with the fact

  33. that the Holy Spirit is a member of the

  34. Trinity and the Godhead and he is

  35. divine.

  36. He has all the attributes that that God

  37. has.

  38. And you know there there's false

  39. teaching on this. There's wrong teaching

  40. on this that you know somehow God create

  41. God the father created the Holy Spirit

  42. or God the Son created the Holy Spirit

  43. and the Holy Spirit's a creature.

  44. Well, that's not true. The Holy Spirit

  45. is God.

  46. And we've looked at that

  47. uh in numerous verses in the Old

  48. Testament and in the New Testament.

  49. And this verse here in John 15 26

  50. uh says, "But when the comforter is

  51. come, whom I will send unto you from the

  52. father."

  53. So here we have the trinity right here

  54. in this one verse.

  55. If you don't believe in a trinity, how

  56. you how can you understand this? How can

  57. you define this? How can you believe

  58. this?

  59. So we have the comforter who is the Holy

  60. Spirit. We have Jesus who is speaking

  61. and he says the Holy Spirit is going to

  62. come forth from the father. Um and and

  63. he's going to do many things.

  64. And uh one of the things that he is

  65. going to do is to bring us the new

  66. testament.

  67. The holy spirit that proceeds from the

  68. father.

  69. He is of truth and the truth comes from

  70. god.

  71. And that's what this verse says. But

  72. when the comforter who is come whom I

  73. will send unto you from the father and

  74. remember Jesus said go and wait for the

  75. promise from the father. That's how the

  76. book of Luke ends.

  77. And we've seen similar things about the

  78. Holy Spirit. He is going to come and

  79. he's even the spirit of truth. And

  80. here's our word who proceeded. There's a

  81. Greek word proceedth. So this is divine

  82. procession

  83. of this message. And it's about these

  84. things that proceed

  85. from the godhead.

  86. And you guys are familiar with Romans

    Romans 1 chapter mention

  87. chapter 1. That was we looked at that

  88. when I talked to the young people up at

  89. the retreat.

  90. That's a really good chapter in Romans

    Romans 1 chapter mention

  91. chapter 1. Don't turn there. But there

  92. we have all of the of gods

  93. of God. I don't know how many's there.

  94. There's numerous ones there.

  95. And it starts with the gospel of God.

  96. So the the gospel is of God. It comes

  97. from God. It proceeds from God. This is

  98. what this verse says. Who proceeds from

  99. the father? The gospel proceeded from

  100. the father. You know the truth proceeded

  101. from the father. The spirit here

  102. proceeds from the father and is sent.

  103. And he's going to do what? He's going to

  104. testify of me. So Jesus even tells us

  105. what his ministry is going to be. And

  106. we've seen that as we've been studying

  107. the Holy Spirit that God the Father has

  108. a will. God the Son has a will and that

  109. that will work together. And God the

  110. Father says he's given everything over

  111. to the Son to judge and the ownership

  112. that he has with us now uh in these

  113. verses that we're going to look at in a

  114. minute. But here he says who proceeds

  115. from the father. And this is the Holy

  116. Spirit proceeds from the father. This is

  117. this divine procession if you will. The

  118. spirit of truth, the spirit of the

  119. father, the spirit of the son. And then

  120. Jesus qualifies this in verse 27.

  121. And you also shall bear witness of me

  122. because you have been with me from the

  123. beginning. Who's that? That's the

  124. apostles. They've been with Jesus since

  125. the beginning. That was a qualification

  126. to be an apostle to having been with

  127. Jesus from the beginning. So the Holy

  128. Spirit is not created. He is a he's

  129. proceeding

  130. um from the father. So this divine

  131. procession if if you will it's similar

  132. to the other words that we have. We have

  133. words like regeneration.

  134. You know, we'll probably have a me whole

  135. message on the regeneration.

  136. We have the atonement. You know, we'll

  137. probably have a whole message on on the

  138. atonement.

  139. So, there are very important doctrines

  140. here, you know, and salvation is by

  141. faith, you know. So, those are great

  142. sound doctrines that, you know, we're

  143. going to look at. And this morning we're

  144. going to look at this divine um

  145. procession that comes from the father.

  146. And uh he he's talking about that here.

  147. And the spirit is the one who gives

  148. life.

  149. And that life we've looked at,

  150. you know, the springtime we we got a lot

  151. coming forth, don't we? There's there's

  152. a lot of, you know, things coming up out

  153. of the ground with life in them. But but

  154. this life is a different life. This life

  155. is is the spirit is eternal life. So God

  156. gives us eternal life and the spirit is

  157. the one who helps with these things and

  158. he proceeds from the father and he's

  159. going to be the gift that the father um

  160. is given to us here. So you know God he

  161. he doesn't have any you know

  162. grandchildren. there's not, you know, a

  163. second Jesus going to come or, you know,

  164. or don't add Mary to the member of the

  165. Godhead.

  166. Um, she's a creature

  167. and and God is a divine. God is the

  168. great giver and of God come, you know,

  169. many many of these things. So again,

  170. from the Godhead, God is going to re

  171. reveal himself and, you know, this is

  172. before the cross. This is before the

  173. ascension. But Jesus says here that he

  174. is going to come. So this prediction is,

  175. you know, what we see over there in Acts

    Acts 2 chapter mention

  176. chapter 2. Don't turn there, but turn

  177. back to John chapter 8, we're still

    John 8 chapter mention

  178. talking about proceeding from the

  179. Godhead. And back in John chapter 8

    John 8 chapter mention

  180. and in verse 42,

  181. Jesus is talking to the Pharisees here,

  182. you know, and this is where they failed.

  183. You know, we we have to believe that

  184. Jesus is divine. He's a member of the

  185. Godhead. He's the son of God. We as well

  186. have to believe that the Holy Spirit is

  187. a member of the of the Trinity and the

  188. Godhead. So we have the father, the son,

  189. and the holy spirit all part of the

  190. godhead.

  191. And part of this is what they didn't get

  192. when it come to Jesus. And he confirms

  193. this deity here in John chapter 8 and in

    John 8 chapter mention

  194. verse 42. If God were your father, you

  195. would love me. For there's our word, I

  196. proceedth forth and I came from God.

  197. Neither did I come from myself, but he

  198. sent me. So the son proceeds from the

  199. father. The son proceeds from the

  200. godhead just like uh the things that

  201. Jesus told us back there in in John

    John 15 chapter mention

  202. chapter 15 about proceeding from the

  203. father. You know he he uh you know John

  204. the Baptist said you know he Jesus has

  205. to increase and I have to decrease. Well

  206. that's that's what this is. The godhead

  207. is increasing. the Godhead is coming

  208. forth with the Son and with the Holy

  209. Spirit. And uh turn over to back to John

    John 15 chapter mention

  210. chapter 15 again where we were,

  211. you know, that that's where a lot of

  212. people got confused was is Jesus going

  213. to set up a kingdom or or are we going

  214. to have a church? And that was a lot of

  215. the confusion that they had. And here in

  216. John 15 verse 20 he says remember the

    John 15:20

  217. word that I said unto you the servants

  218. not greater than his lord. If they

  219. persecuted me and they have kept my

  220. saying they will keep yours also. So

  221. Jesus is specific to what this truth is

  222. going to be. It's going to be what Jesus

  223. said you know and what proceeds from him

  224. and what proceeds from the father. And

  225. then back in verse uh 22 here, if I had

  226. not come and spoken unto them, they had

  227. no sin. But now they have no cloak for

  228. their sin. He that hateth me hateth my

  229. father also. So the oneness of Jesus

  230. with the father here proceeding. So we

  231. have the trinity here. We have the the

  232. son proceeding from the godhead. We have

  233. the spirit proceeding from the godhead.

  234. We have the truth proceeding from the

  235. godhead. And uh you know all these are

  236. very important things. Turn over to

  237. chapter 16 verse 33.

  238. He says these things have I spoken unto

  239. you

  240. um that you might have peace. The world

  241. you're going to have tribulation but I

  242. be of good cheer. I've overcome the

  243. world. So the things that he spoke to

  244. them, you know, they're going to

  245. remember and they're going to pass those

  246. on on to us.

  247. And then he says in verse three, this is

  248. eternal life that they may know thee.

  249. The only true God and Jesus Christ whom

  250. thou sent true God that proceeds from

  251. the Godhead is Jesus. So um you know he

  252. is our great apostle.

  253. you know, he he's our great high priest.

  254. Uh Jesus is. So, we have a we have a

  255. member of the trinity now that's

  256. speaking about these things that are

  257. going to come and be for those who are

  258. are the followers of him. We have the

  259. deity of the father. We have the the

  260. deity of the son. We have the deity of

  261. the holy spirit. Uh we have all the I

  262. ams in John that Jesus uh gives us here.

  263. And uh you know he's our great apostle.

  264. He is our great

  265. inter intercessory

  266. uh high priest and you know he's going

  267. to go do those things you know so he's

  268. going to send the spirit uh here to

  269. witness to him and he's going to go and

  270. accomplish great things for us and we

  271. have all the I have here in John chapter

    John 17 chapter mention

  272. 17

  273. uh there's one in verse 26 I have

  274. declared unto them thy name. So Jesus

  275. made some declarations

  276. and and the Ihavves are all over John

    John 17 chapter mention

  277. chapter 17 here. So these are great

  278. things that he did. And uh if you will

  279. look in chapter 18 verse 5

  280. and here's one of those here's one of

  281. those I ams.

  282. Um and he he says unto them, "Whom whom

  283. do you seek?" They said, "Jesus of

  284. Nazareth." He said unto them, "I am him.

  285. I am he."

  286. And this is the one that Judas betrayed

  287. and stood with them. And soon as they

  288. heard these things, the I am, they went

  289. backwards and fell on the ground. So

  290. here we see uh Jesus deity

  291. um here at the uh as he gets ready to go

  292. to the cross. So he's definitely a

  293. member of the godhead. So

  294. he he is going to send them,

  295. you know, after after the cross, you

  296. know, after the resurrection and after

  297. his ascension, you know, he's going to

  298. send them forth to do what? To to not to

  299. gather up a kingdom. That's what Jesus

  300. says in verse 36. My kingdom is not of

  301. this world. my my servants aren't going

  302. to fight. You know, my kingdom is to

  303. come and uh the truth uh is to come as

  304. well. So, you know, these men became

  305. witnesses of the truth. And just as

  306. Jesus told them back there in in the

  307. earlier chapters about, you know, them

  308. being with him, having been with him in

  309. order to be apostles,

  310. uh those are all important things. And

  311. that's what he says over in Acts chapter

    Acts 1 chapter mention

  312. 1 about being the witnesses for him.

  313. And and there were specifically 12 of

  314. them.

  315. Now, if you will turn to Romans chapter

    Romans 8 chapter mention

  316. 8.

  317. Romans chapter 8.

    Romans 8 chapter mention

  318. And in verse n

  319. here we see

  320. where where Paul says the spirit of

  321. Christ there. We looked at this before.

  322. So here in Romans chapter 8 we have in

    Romans 8 chapter mention

  323. verse 9 we have the spirit of the son

  324. the spirit of Christ.

  325. Um the spirit that comes from Christ.

  326. And that's what the holy spirit did. He

  327. proceeded from the godhead. Not in

  328. create, you know, Jesus didn't create

  329. the Holy Spirit, but this member of the

  330. Godhead came forth for a specific uh

  331. ministry on the earth with the with the

  332. children of God. And here in Romans

    Romans 8 chapter mention

  333. chapter 8, this, you know, maybe the

  334. best chapter in the whole Bible for us

  335. who are saved because it just really

  336. gives us assurance that we are the

  337. children of God.

  338. And you know Jesus is fully God. The the

  339. father is fully God. The Holy Spirit is

  340. fully God. So Jesus sent forth the

  341. spirit of Christ. And then he says if

  342. you will look in verse 11, but if the

  343. spirit of him that raised Jesus from the

  344. dead, who's that?

  345. Well, that's God the Father

  346. that raised Jesus from the dead, he also

  347. will give life to your mortal bodies by

  348. the spirit that dwells in you. So the

  349. spirit he's divine. He's he comes forth

  350. from the father. He he's a giver of life

  351. and uh he he's going to give life as it

  352. says here to our mortal body. So our

  353. resurrection is connected with this

  354. divine being this one who proceeded from

  355. the father and the son.

  356. You know so these are things that god

  357. wants us to believe about uh the holy

  358. spirit. and and we want to walk by faith

  359. and trust in him. And uh you know these

  360. are all things that we should you know

  361. we should praise God for and worship God

  362. that he sent a divine being uh from the

  363. trinity to dwell in us and to help us

  364. um know that who we are

  365. and the spirit as well it's called the

  366. spirit of adoption.

  367. So the spirit helps us understand our

  368. adoption.

  369. And that's right here in Romans chapter

    Romans 8 chapter mention

  370. 8 as well. Look in verse 15.

  371. For you have not received the spirit of

  372. bondage again to fear. You know that's

  373. what we were before we were saved. We

  374. were, you know, we didn't have the Holy

  375. Spirit. You know, we didn't have the

  376. truth. We didn't have the light. We

  377. didn't have the gospel. There's a lot of

  378. things that we didn't have, but we have

  379. received

  380. the spirit of adoption.

  381. So, you know, it's nothing we ask for.

  382. It's something that God did. He gave us

  383. uh the Holy Spirit for a purpose. Uh

  384. that we might cry, "Aba, Father." He

  385. wants us to know God as our father.

  386. and uh and we're hes and we have the

  387. spirit bearing witness with our spirit.

  388. Now look over in verse 23

  389. he says and not only they but we

  390. ourselves who have the first fruits of

  391. the spirit.

  392. So you know that's what God has done.

  393. He's he has given us the first fruits

  394. uh being the holy spirit. you know, the

  395. the Jews would would offer their first

  396. fruits to God, you know, and and and

  397. just say, you know, thank God that, you

  398. know, he's blessed us and, you know,

  399. we're we're going to have food. So those

  400. first fruits were, you know, and I, you

  401. know, how they worshiped, you know,

  402. praise God for what he has given. So the

  403. first fruits that God has given us here

  404. is the Holy Spirit and we grown within

  405. ourselves waiting for the adoption of

  406. the body. So only half our adoption has

  407. been done. The first half is our soul

  408. has been adopted. He's g God gave us

  409. eternal life. That's the first fruits.

  410. And then eventually the Lord's going to

  411. come back and he's going to empty out

  412. the graves. Right?

  413. So he's now, you know, to the victor

  414. goes the spoils.

  415. You know, that's one of the rules of

  416. war. You know, if you defeat somebody,

  417. then you know, their their stuff is

  418. yours. That's one of the rules of war.

  419. And here Jesus has, you know, he's won

  420. everything for us. He's the victor.

  421. And you know, this victory is is

  422. We receive. That's what it says. We

  423. receive. We don't ask for. We don't

  424. merit.

  425. You know, we receive

  426. uh the spirit. We receive these things.

  427. The spirit of Christ and the spirit of

  428. the father and and these uh and this

  429. dual purpose here then of of him

  430. redeeming our souls and he's going to

  431. redeem our body.

  432. Are we going to have to say, "God, will

  433. you redeem my body?" Hang on.

  434. No, these things just come to us because

  435. of the work of Christ

  436. and we're to walk in them. I go to

  437. Colossians 1.

  438. Colossian

  439. you know that's that's the wonderful

  440. thing about about God's word is that you

  441. know it's the truth it's so practical

  442. you know and uh we children can

  443. understand this

  444. and the Colossians they were you know

  445. they were seeking other things they

  446. weren't content to be in Christ

  447. you know so Paul starts out here in

  448. verse 9 he says for this call since the

  449. day we heard of it to not cease to pray

  450. for you and desire what's Paul's desire.

  451. He's an apostle. This is what Jesus

  452. desires for his church that you might be

  453. filled with the knowledge of his will

  454. and all wisdom and spiritual

  455. understanding

  456. and then do something with it. Walk

  457. worthy of the Lord to all pleasing and

  458. being fruitful in every good work,

  459. increasing in the knowledge

  460. of God.

  461. uh strengthened with all might according

  462. to his glorious power unto all patience

  463. and longsuffering with joyful being

  464. filled with joy

  465. and giving thanks to the father

  466. worshiping God for this and God thank

  467. you for what you've done you've you know

  468. you've given me everything in Christ

  469. you've freely given me the holy spirit

  470. you've freely given me the uh the

  471. salvation that I I have so you know the

  472. The whole trinity has been involved in

  473. our salvation and still is. And you

  474. know, Jesus is at the right hand of the

  475. father and uh we're benefiting greatly

  476. from his uh from his work

  477. on our behalf. So this is what Jesus

  478. meant back there in John 15:26 when he

    John 15:26

  479. said you know the the the these things

  480. are going to proceed

  481. uh this divine provision

  482. uh is going to proceed

  483. from the father. So you know the spirit

  484. of Christ, the spirit of the father, you

  485. know that he proceeds from the godhead

  486. and he comes along beside us and bible

  487. says he's our great comforter

  488. to walk with us. And then Jesus, you

  489. know, he he's taken complete ownership

  490. of us. You know, he didn't just buy half

  491. of us or just buy our, you know, our

  492. souls and he's going to leave our bodies

  493. on the earth.

  494. No, this redemption

  495. includes our old sinful bodies. You

  496. know, we need a new one, don't we? You

  497. know, and we're going to get a new one

  498. someday. So, these things have all been

  499. poured out on us by God the Father, by

  500. God, God the Son, and by God the Holy

  501. Spirit.

  502. And this is what Jesus said back in John

  503. in chapter 3 and verse 8 there where he

  504. said, you know, the spirit blows where

  505. he wills. It's, you know, he's

  506. sovereign. So, you know, he's going to

  507. bring people in uh through the gospel

  508. and he's going to add them to the church

  509. as he see fit.

  510. So when Jesus told Nicodemus,

  511. except you be born again, you know, and

  512. it it's an it's and except and it's a

  513. must.

  514. We must be born again. And except we be

  515. born again, we won't see the kingdom of

  516. God. And that's what the Holy Spirit

  517. does. He comes to help us with the

  518. gospel. when when those you know share

  519. us the gospel with us. He he he has

  520. taken on the the sanctification of us

  521. you know that's that's his job. Uh he's

  522. he's he's helping us to to become more

  523. and more like Jesus.

  524. Second Timothy,

  525. remember to second Timothy chapter 1.

    2 Timothy 1 chapter mention

  526. I when Jesus said, "We can't see the

  527. kingdom of God unless we've been born

  528. again." Paul said it like this, "Flesh

  529. and blood

  530. will not inherit the kingdom of God."

  531. Well, if those things are true, then you

  532. know, we want to make sure we understand

  533. what the new birth is and what

  534. regeneration is and what it is that

  535. proceeds from the father.

  536. And and it's like uh the Old Testament

  537. prophet said, salvation is of the Lord.

  538. You know, so God is is doing something.

  539. God has done something

  540. and he's done it through his son. And

  541. here

  542. we are in First Timothy. I'm sorry,

  543. second. I keep saying

  544. first. It's second Timothy chapter 1, a

    2 Timothy 1 chapter mention

  545. verse you're all familiar with.

  546. But you know, God

  547. gets all the credit for for our

  548. salvation because he's, you know, we're

  549. dead in trespasses and sins. We can't

  550. save ourselves.

  551. We can't even offer one good work. You

  552. know that Spurgeon said that. He said,

  553. "There's two reasons I can't go to

  554. heaven. One is God won't accept any good

  555. works. And secondly, I can't do any good

  556. works."

  557. So trust in Christ. give rid of all this

  558. other uh activity trying to climb up to

  559. God some other way come God's way

  560. and and Paul says now is made manifest

  561. by the peering of our savior so I mean

  562. everything that was in the old testament

  563. years and years and years and centuries

  564. and centuries and you know and 400 years

  565. between the last prophet and and John

  566. the Baptist coming on the scene and

  567. again John was the last prophet But John

  568. said, you know, he everything's he here

  569. he is.

  570. Here he is our savior,

  571. perfect savior.

  572. And that's what verse 10 says here. But

  573. now it's made manifest by the appearing

  574. of our savior. God is doing something.

  575. When God does something, it's done

  576. right.

  577. And Jesus Christ, what? Look what he

  578. did.

  579. He abolished death

  580. and he has brought life

  581. and immortality to light through the

  582. gospel. So God can give us life.

  583. And God can give us light now, not

  584. through something that we've done or

  585. could do. We're dead in trespasses and

  586. sins. Salvation is of the Lord. He did

  587. this.

  588. And then Paul says,"I appointed a

  589. preacher and an apostle and a teacher to

  590. the Gentiles." Paul says, "It's all

  591. right here. Don't add to it. Don't add

  592. anything to it. Don't take anything away

  593. from it.

  594. The salvation is of the Lord. Salvation

  595. is is in Jesus Christ. God has abolished

  596. death and brought life and immortality

  597. to light through one person and one act,

  598. his son."

  599. And then what are we to do? Well, Paul

  600. says, "Hold fast verse 13,

  601. the form of sound words which you heard

  602. from me in faith and love which is in

  603. Christ Jesus." So we want to we want to

  604. hang on to that and hang on to this.

  605. This is from God. This proceeds from

  606. God. The gospel does. And the abolishing

  607. of death and and the giving of life and

  608. the bringing of life. All these things

  609. are what God has promised

  610. and that's what the apostles said. This

  611. God promised us remember

  612. and they crucified

  613. their Messiah.

  614. But the Gentiles,

  615. we've been grafted in. That's Paul says,

  616. "Teacher to the Gentiles." So now we

  617. understand what happened. Wow. God did

  618. all this for me through his son giving

  619. me life and and and now I should I

  620. should uh worship this great God.

  621. I should praise this great God. I should

  622. thank this great God. I should stick to

  623. what this great God has to say about

  624. these eternal things.

  625. And how did God do it?

  626. How did God do it? He did it through

  627. those things that proceed from him.

  628. Verse nine

  629. who saved us. That's what we need. We

  630. need to be saved. We need a savior. We

  631. need this redemption.

  632. And then he says, and he's called us

  633. with a holy calling,

  634. not according to our works.

  635. God didn't say, "Well, you know, well,

  636. so and so, he's a pretty good guy, so

  637. I'm going to save him because I know

  638. he'll do a good job with Christianity."

  639. That's not the way this works at all.

  640. Everything is a gift of God to us in his

  641. son.

  642. our election, our calling, our

  643. justification, our sanctification, our

  644. glorification.

  645. All those things are a free gift

  646. that God has given to us in his son. And

  647. now hold fast to this, you know, hold

  648. here's where it's at. It's in the word

  649. and and the ministry of the word and the

  650. power of the word and the living word

  651. comes and does a great work in our

  652. hearts and in our lives. That's what he

  653. says to Timothy here in at the end of

  654. chapter 13 about the scripture.

  655. And you know these are you know that

  656. God's commandments are divine.

  657. You know God's gospel is divine. When we

  658. take God at his word when we read a

  659. promise it's a promise of God. It's not

  660. a promise of Ben.

  661. It's a promise of God. That's why Paul

  662. said to the Corinthians that he wanted

  663. their faith to stand in the power of

  664. God, not in the wisdom of men.

  665. People who aren't sure about whether

  666. they're saved or aren't sure whether

  667. about anything, you know, they need the

  668. word of God. They need this sound

  669. doctrine. They need to hear from God.

  670. They need to know the promises of God

  671. who can't lie

  672. so our faith can rest in him.

  673. And then here here's the here's how we

  674. face death. You say, "Is this going to

  675. change or what about when I get ready to

  676. die there?" Nope. We have it all. We're

  677. ready to die. We're ready to go to the

  678. to the next life. Yeah, flesh and blood

  679. cannot inherit the kingdom of God. But

  680. guess what? Those who have been born

  681. again can.

  682. And that's why Paul fought

  683. the fight and preached the word as he

  684. told Timothy to do. And then he says, I

  685. fought a good fight. Verse 7, finished

  686. my course and I've kept the faith.

  687. There's not more.

  688. This is it. We don't need anything else.

  689. We have God's word and we have God the

  690. God behind his word and the promises

  691. that he has given to us. So that's what

  692. the scripture tells us, you know, and um

  693. these are the very things that people

  694. wanted to leave,

  695. you know, they they don't like it. They

  696. don't like sound doctrine. They don't

  697. like God's promises. They don't like God

  698. salvation being a free gift. And that

  699. was the battle that Timothy fought. You

  700. know, he says here in the last times,

  701. all these things are going to happen.

  702. People just just walk away from sound

  703. doctrine and the truth.

  704. And we're in a fight. And Timothy was in

  705. a fight. Paul was in a fight for these

  706. things.

  707. So that's that's the power that indwells

  708. that dwells within us is this the the

  709. things that have proceeded from God. The

  710. the Holy Spirit indwells us. Turn over

  711. to Acts chapter 1.

    Acts 1 chapter mention

  712. Acts chapter 1. So how do we get into

    Acts 1 chapter mention

  713. God's kingdom?

  714. Um we have to come through Christ.

  715. And if any man be in Christ, he is a new

  716. creation. You there's countless verses

  717. on this. But that's God's here. Here's

  718. the deal with God.

  719. He says, "You come to me through my son

  720. and and I'll give you a gift, a gift of

  721. eternal life

  722. and and prepare us for heaven."

  723. And that's the new birth. That's

  724. regeneration.

  725. Someday we'll look at that. And then

  726. here we have the birth of the church.

  727. You know the

  728. you know the law

  729. Jesus put an end to the law.

  730. Now it's there to for a school master to

  731. bring us to Christ. Don't take that too

  732. far. But now we have Christ. We have all

  733. this freedom in Christ. So

  734. uh we're born again.

  735. And here the church

  736. uh in Acts chapter 2, here's the birth

    Acts 2 chapter mention

  737. of the church. I'm getting ahead of

  738. myself. Start back in chapter 1

  739. in verse three.

  740. He says, "And he showed himself alive

  741. after his passion by many infallible

  742. proofs, being seen of them 40 days." So

  743. from the time that Jesus rose from the

  744. dead until he ascended, he spent 40 days

  745. with them

  746. specific thing, you know, and we can go

  747. back and look at what he did and why he

  748. did it and all those things are are

  749. extremely important.

  750. But after 40 days, the time come. Jesus

  751. is leaving.

  752. And he's going to send the promise of

  753. the father. Here

  754. in verse four, the promise of the father

  755. and he and he says he likens it to in

  756. verse five, John baptized with water. He

  757. says, "Now the Holy Spirit's going to

  758. baptize you with water." No, that's not

  759. what he said.

  760. These are two different things.

  761. And we're baptized into the body of

  762. Christ when we're born again.

  763. We're raised from the dead spiritually

  764. and we're imputed into the body of

  765. Christ by God, the Holy Spirit. That's

  766. what this says.

  767. And then uh and the power of it, verse

  768. eight, we've looked at this numerous

  769. times um in our study of the Holy

  770. Spirit. But but the church has a birth

  771. date and the birth date of the church is

    Isaiah 2 chapter mention

  772. chapter 2 is on the day of Pentecost.

  773. So,

  774. you know, there there's a reason for the

  775. timing of this, and we'll look at that

  776. in a different time and in a different

  777. message. But what I want to zero in

  778. today is there in verse three and in

  779. verse four, he says at the end of verse

  780. two or excuse me, end of verse three,

  781. and sat upon each one of them.

  782. And then he says, "And they all

  783. were filled with the Holy Spirit."

  784. Everyone,

  785. you know, not just uh the apostles, not

  786. just you know, the the Steven who was

  787. going to be a martyr

  788. um or or you know, it was everyone. So

  789. now everybody who is born again is born

  790. again by the spirit of God and our our

  791. that that's our new birth date and

  792. that's regeneration. That's when the

  793. spirit puts us in to the body of Christ

  794. that Paul writes about in 1 Corinthians

  795. chapters uh 12 through13.

  796. So this is how the spirit begin and

  797. builds the church. You know, it wasn't a

  798. building. It was people. It says here,

  799. each one of them. It says here, all of

  800. them, not just the apostles. So, the

  801. gift of the Holy Spirit and the gifts of

  802. the Holy Spirit come upon every believer

  803. individually,

  804. not to a select

  805. few. It's each and all. And we have no

  806. second generation of the apostles.

  807. You know, Paul never said to Timothy,

  808. "Well, you're going to be the next

  809. apostle." No, he said, "I'm I'm I'm the

  810. last of the apostles."

  811. You know, and God used these apostles

  812. and these men to accomplish these great

  813. things. Um, that's what Paul says back

  814. there in Corinthians about

  815. all the people that seen Jesus. He was

  816. seen by above 500.

  817. And you know, all these things, you

  818. know, were taking place in the early

  819. church. They were like, you know, there

  820. were people that really did see Jesus

  821. raised from the dead, not just the

  822. apostles, but numerous ones.

  823. And then many come along and tried to

  824. mislead the church. Many came along and

  825. tried to malign the gospel and do away

  826. with the gospel. And, you know, Jesus

  827. wondered if that was going to happen.

  828. So, you know, they they sort of were

  829. ready for that and dealt with that. But,

  830. uh,

  831. you know, there were a lot of stuff in

  832. the early church,

  833. you know, that were handed on,

  834. handed down, you know, by the

  835. eyewitnesses

  836. that were there. And that's what the

  837. that's what the New Testament is.

  838. It's not just, you know, what Paul

  839. thinks. It's not just what Peter thinks,

  840. it's what God told them to write.

  841. And you know, we have the whole New

  842. Testament here. And what an interesting

  843. and wonderful thing it is.

  844. You know, we had we had uh the apostles

  845. and

  846. as well we had James, the Lord's

  847. brother. We had Jude the Lord's brother,

  848. you know, and people knew that, you

  849. know, they didn't they didn't come along

  850. and say, "Well, you know what? The

  851. people that knew then said, "Yo, yeah,

  852. James, he was the Lord's brother." And

  853. uh Jude, yeah, yeah, he was the Lord's

  854. brother.

  855. And Acts tells us about other men that

  856. were mighty in the scriptures.

  857. Um the book of Corinthians talks about

  858. Apollos

  859. and and uh we have men like Mark, we

  860. have men like Luke, we have Barnabas,

  861. you know, we have all these men who who

  862. uh God used to help to bring forth this

  863. uh this New Testament

  864. and the oldest book and then excuse me

  865. the the well I guess it is the oldest

  866. book because it was the first book

  867. written

  868. Acts wasn't written until way way later

  869. on, you know. So, people get all hung up

  870. on, you know, the stuff that happened

  871. here and and we'll deal with this stuff

  872. here, the tongues and the gifts and all

  873. these things. But, you know, by the time

  874. these things, they had faded out.

  875. You know, the apo Paul's an old man. You

  876. know, he's writing to the Corinthians.

  877. So, you know, he he's writing back and

  878. all the things that he's telling them.

  879. And that's the oldest, one of the oldest

  880. letters is the letter to Corinthians.

  881. That's why Paul deals with tongues and

  882. the other things uh there. But the

  883. emphasis, if you will, turn to 1

    1 Corinthians 1 chapter mention

  884. Corinthians chapter 1.

  885. 1 Corinthians 1,

  886. you know, and I guess may maybe here's

  887. where we fail

  888. today trying to do what they wanted us

  889. to do here in verse 10.

  890. Or maybe we don't fail.

  891. What what's the Bible say about the

  892. Bible? What's the Bible say about the

  893. apostles? What's the Bible say about

  894. Jesus? What's the Bible say about the

  895. Holy Spirit? What's the Bible say about

  896. the church?

  897. Well,

  898. we have verses

  899. to help with these things. And Paul says

  900. here,

  901. he says, "Now I beseech you, brethren,

  902. by the name of the Lord Jesus Christ."

  903. That's Paul's authority.

  904. He's not there as the Apostle Paul.

  905. You know, he doesn't write these New

  906. Testament letters

  907. with his information and what he thought

  908. and, you know, how he thought things

  909. were going to go. You those are all

  910. human thoughts. Those are all human

  911. opinions. Those are all, you know, human

  912. things.

  913. He says that you all speak the same

  914. thing.

  915. Well, what is it that we're were to

  916. speak and that no division be among you?

  917. You be perfectly joined together in the

  918. same mind and in the same judgment.

  919. Well, how can we do that? The only way

  920. we can do that is with the word of God,

  921. with the New Testament.

  922. So God wants every church whether it's

  923. the church in Corinth or the church in

  924. Athens or the church around the world

  925. wherever the church may be God wants us

  926. united in the name of the Lord speaking

  927. the same things from his word that there

  928. be no division among you don't don't

  929. you know cause that

  930. and the the word of God brings unity the

  931. word of God sound doctrine brings unity

  932. And he says, "You be perfectly

  933. joined together in the same mind." How

  934. can we be of the same mind? We need the

  935. word of God.

  936. And uh we need to know what it says. And

  937. Paul says the same thing, the same

  938. thing, the same thing.

  939. And then he says, "It's been declared

  940. unto me, brethren, that there are

  941. contentions." and he goes into these

  942. things and says, "Is Christ divided?"

  943. So, it's important for us to see that,

  944. you know, God gave us the New Testament

  945. uh through the apostles and through the

  946. Holy Spirit and through these men uh

  947. that we all might be of the same mind

  948. and of the same judgment and uh there be

  949. no division among us. Now look over in

  950. chapter 3,

  951. 1 Corinthians chapter 3.

    1 Corinthians 3 chapter mention

  952. Now here he talks about Apollos and you

  953. know all the planners and all the

  954. teachers. But we should all all the

  955. teachers we should be teaching you know

  956. from the from the same himnel except

  957. this isn't himnel.

  958. This is the word of God.

  959. And Paul says, "According to the grace

  960. of God which is given me unto you as a

  961. wise master builder." That that's what

  962. Paul was.

  963. You know, God used him in a great way

  964. to build a church

  965. and and to deal with these problems and

  966. these issues in the church and to say,

  967. "Well, what's God say we ought to do?"

  968. You know, we don't want to get weighed

  969. down on what men say. We want to do what

  970. God says. It's after all it's his

  971. church. After all, you know, the son of

  972. God came forth, the word of God came

  973. forth, the spirit of God came forth, the

  974. truth came forth. All these things are

  975. ours now that we might all be one

  976. and united

  977. around sound doctrine. Verse 11, for

  978. other foundation can no man lay. Oh, it

  979. doesn't matter who you are. Paul says uh

  980. you know even he says toward the

  981. Galatians if anyone even an angel from

  982. heaven preach any other gospel let him

  983. be accured.

  984. So we want to stick with what Paul gave

  985. us. We want to stick with what Peter

  986. gave us here in the New Testament. So

  987. now we strive to do what the early

  988. church did and they they uh got together

  989. and they they uh broke bread and and and

  990. uh talked about the apostles doctrine.

  991. And that's what we need to do. We need

  992. to be talking about the apostles

  993. doctrine. Everything in here is is of

  994. God and from God um to us. This is why

  995. it's so important. Turn over to

  996. Ephesians chapter 2.

    Ephesians 2 chapter mention

  997. And by the way, that the whole book of

  998. Ephesians is about the church, gentile

  999. church.

1000. Paul wrote it to the Ephesians. He wrote

1001. another letter to Timothy while he was

  1002. in Ephesus.

1003. And you know, here's the sound doctrine.

1004. Here's the things that God wants us to

1005. have. And God wants us to know.

  1006. And in chapter 2

1007. verse 19, he says, "You're no more

1008. strangers and sojourners, but fellow

1009. citizen with the saints in the household

1010. of God." That's who we are. Well, how'd

1011. we get that? Well, it's what Jesus did

1012. for us back there in chapter one.

1013. So, now we're uh we're not citizens of

1014. the earth. We're citizens of heaven

1015. and the household of of God. And we are

1016. built upon the foundation. It's already

1017. there. Don't try to go back and lay a

1018. different foundation or take this

1019. foundation out and try to add to it or

1020. try to, you know, come up with something

1021. else. God has given us the foundation

1022. and he brought it to us through the

  1023. apostles and the prophets

1024. and Jesus Christ himself being the chief

1025. cornerstone. So you want to we want to

1026. come to him and be born again

1027. whom all the building fitly joins

1028. together growing into a holy temple in

1029. the Lord. That's what God wants. In whom

1030. also you were built together for a

1031. habitation of God through his spirit. So

1032. that's who we are now. You old Gentiles,

1033. you know, us Gentiles, we have the

1034. spirit of God and God inhabits us now

1035. because of the new birth because of the

1036. Holy Spirit. You know, this is why this

  1037. is so important,

1038. you know. So, the apostles brought these

1039. things to us and that's what verse 20

1040. says. So, um these these truths are

  1041. important.

1042. You know, it's it's like the book of

1043. Hebrews. We don't have an we don't have

1044. a writer. We just have the book. And you

1045. read that book and you're like, man,

1046. this this is it, man. This is the word

1047. of God. This is the living word of God.

1048. It it does exactly what it says it's

  1049. going to do,

1050. you know, and and God has gifted us with

1051. the New Testament, whether it's Hebrews

1052. or Ephesians or First Timothy or Second

1053. Timothy. This is our guide, you know,

1054. this is our uh himno. This is we don't

  1055. have another one.

1056. And that's what the that's why Paul

1057. said, you know, about the angels coming

1058. along. How many of the cults have done

1059. that very thing? Some man said, you

1060. know, he saw a vision and wrote this

1061. down. I mean, there are numerous ones.

1062. So nothing, you know, the Mormons, the

1063. Jehovah Witnesses, the Muslims, they all

1064. have tried to add to this. They all come

1065. along and said, "It's not enough or it's

1066. wrong." And we say bologoney to them.

1067. This is the truth. And God has brought

  1068. it forth

1069. from his son, brought it forth from the

1070. Godhead for us to see. And it's just

1071. countless book after book. And uh these

1072. things are all so important. And here's

  1073. God's organizational chart. Turn to 1

    1 Corinthians 11 chapter mention

  1074. Corinthians chapter 11.

1075. You guys have an organizational part at

1076. work. Company, most companies do, but

  1077. they don't follow it.

  1078. Well, maybe some do.

1079. But God follows his organizational

  1080. chart.

  1081. And here it is.

1082. in 1 Corinthians chap 11 verse one.

1083. You know, if Paul wasn't an apostle, how

1084. could he say follow me?

1085. If Paul wasn't there, if if he didn't

1086. wasn't doing what God said to do, God

1087. said, "Go to the Gentiles." Paul, here's

  1088. Paul of the Gentiles.

1089. And he says this, "Follow me even as I

1090. also am of Christ." So Paul

1091. is a human being, a fallen man like the

1092. rest of us. And he says over there in

1093. Romans chapter 7, "Oh wretched man that

    Romans 7 chapter mention

1094. I am." And we can all say, "Amen." Paul,

  1095. I'm getting there. I am there.

1096. He says, "I praise you, brethren, that

1097. you remember me in all things." So Paul,

1098. you know, he he he hears connects

1099. himself to Jesus and to the Godhead, to

1100. what he wants the church to do and to

  1101. follow.

1102. to remember what I've told you

1103. as I've delivered it unto you. So that's

1104. what God did. He's delivered to us the

  1105. New Testament

  1106. through the apostles.

1107. And Paul here being one. And then Paul

1108. says, "I'm an inspired apostle and by

1109. the inspired word of God, I tell you

1110. these things. And I would have you know

  1111. verse three

1112. at the head of every man is Christ

1113. and at the head of the woman is a man

1114. and at the head of Christ is God. So

1115. these things proceed from God. You know

1116. Jesus, you know, he he he was a man,

1117. yes, but he's also God, you know, and

1118. and and these things proceed from him.

1119. The truth proceeds from him. The Holy

1120. Spirit proceeds from him. The sound

1121. doctrine of the New Testament proceeds

  1122. from him.

1123. Even though he used men like Paul and

1124. Peter and these other men uh to help

1125. write all these things down.

1126. And uh I'm out of time.

1127. Let's close in a word of prayer. Father,

1128. we thank you for your word

1129. and amazing how we got it.

1130. You use these men, these fishermen,

1131. these tax collectors, these murderers

  1132. like Paul,

1133. you use them in a great way

1134. uh to bring forth this New Testament

1135. that we might know it and we might

1136. understand it, we might believe it. And

1137. we thank you for these gifts. Faith is a

  1138. gift.

1139. And we're not saved by works,

1140. lest any man should boast.

1141. We're saved by the precious gift of

1142. eternal life that only the spirit can

1143. bring us and only the word of God can

  1144. bring us through regeneration.

1145. Thank you for regenerating us dead

1146. sinners and blind sinners to you and to

1147. your will and to your word. And we thank

1148. you and we praise you and we worship

1149. you. We can't wait to get together in

1150. glory with this one who loved us and

1151. died for us. We thank you for the spirit

1152. that indwells all of us

1153. uh that believe and help us to walk by

1154. faith. And we pray in Jesus name. Amen.
