  1. on the doctrines of the scripture.

  2. We've been looking at the godhead

  3. for a few weeks now and we're going to

  4. continue that today

  5. with the fatherhood of God.

  6. The fatherhood of God.

  7. The title of our message today,

  8. open your Bibles if you would to the

  9. John

    John 15 chapter mention

  10. chapter 15.

  11. John

    John 15 chapter mention

  12. chapter 15.

  13. And much of what we know about God the

  14. Father and the fatherhood of God

  15. uh came to us from Jesus.

  16. He taught on this subject,

  17. spoke on this subject.

  18. So, a lot of the the sound doctrine that

  19. we have

  20. about the fatherhood of God comes from

  21. him. Not all of it does. There's still

  22. others. And we're going to look at some

  23. of it as we look at this uh topic

  24. today.

  25. And uh the majority came from the son of

  26. God.

  27. And here in John chapter 15,

    John 15 chapter mention

  28. I want to pick up on on three verses

  29. here about the fatherhood of God.

  30. In verse one, Jesus said of John 15,

  31. I am the true vine and my father is the

  32. vine dresser.

  33. So we see that father is not the son,

  34. the son is not the father. We see two

  35. different members here of the godhead,

  36. the trinity.

  37. uh God the father and God the son and

  38. God the son says he's the true vine

  39. he's telling that to his apostles here

  40. and the disciples and we too come along

  41. and we want to know what Jesus has to

  42. say about these things as well and here

  43. uh we have a good example in John 15

  44. that he's the vine and his father is a

  45. vine dresser so his father is the one

  46. who uh trims the vine the vine and and

  47. makes the vine grow and uh prunes the

  48. vine that it might be bring forth more

  49. fruit all that we have there. Uh not

  50. don't want to talk about the

  51. you know that subject today. We're just

  52. looking at the the fatherhood of God and

  53. what the son of God had to say about the

  54. father. And here's a good one. And then

  55. uh if we look over in verse 15

  56. of John chapter 15, he says,

    John 15 chapter mention

  57. "Henceforth,

  58. I call you not servants, for the servant

  59. knows not what his lord does, but I have

  60. called you friends, and all things that

  61. I you've heard of my father have I made

  62. known unto you." So Jesus here says that

  63. he made known to us what the father

  64. wanted us to know. So one of those

  65. things is what he said up there in verse

  66. one that Jesus is the vine and his

  67. father's divine dresser. So that was

  68. Jesus mission as well on the earth not

  69. only to come and to die and to pay for

  70. our sins but he as as the he as a member

  71. of the trinity. He is a member of the

  72. godhead to tell us about God the father.

  73. Who is he and what does he want? You

  74. know and how can we know his will? how

  75. can we do his will? Who is he? And Jesus

  76. helps us uh with this task here. And

  77. then he says over in verse 23, he that

  78. hates my father, he that hates me hates

  79. my father also. So Jesus puts a negative

  80. in here and you're not, you know, if you

  81. don't love Jesus, then you can't love

  82. the father

  83. because these two uh are so vitally

  84. connected. And you know Jesus is

  85. you know we we don't seem like we don't

  86. struggle with the deity of the father.

  87. Sometimes people struggle with the deity

  88. of the son.

  89. And for those who are struggling with

  90. the deity of the son here uh Jesus would

  91. have to be god in order to make god

  92. known.

  93. You know he didn't leave that to Moses.

  94. He didn't leave that to David. He didn't

  95. leave that to Solomon. uh he didn't

  96. leave that to the apostle Paul to Peter.

  97. Uh Jesus is God in order to make God

  98. known to us.

  99. So that was part of what was going on

  100. here uh in the upper room in the in the

  101. latter part of Jesus ministry.

  102. So the two are equal. The father is

  103. equal with the son. The son is equal

  104. with the father. There one of them is

  105. not superior to the other. And uh no

  106. creature could ever be equal with his

  107. creator.

  108. And Jesus here is is equal with the

  109. father. And he is pointing that these

  110. things out to us in a great way. And

  111. remember when we went back to Genesis

  112. and you know back there we saw the the

  113. spirit of God and we know that the the

  114. book of Job and other places where the

  115. father was there as well. So the father

  116. was at creation.

  117. um along with the the spirit and along

  118. with the the son of God. And all three

  119. of the trinity members of the trinity

  120. participated in the resurrection of

  121. Jesus. We talked about that and you know

  122. someday here in the near future we're

  123. going to look at that. But we have this

  124. unity uh with the godhead. you know,

  125. they're they're equal. Whether we're

  126. talking about the Father, whether we're

  127. talking about the Son, or whether we're

  128. talking about the Holy Spirit, they're

  129. all equal. And in order to make one

  130. another known to us, and that's what the

  131. word of God does. You know, who tells us

  132. about the father? Jesus. Who tells us

  133. about the son? The father. Who tells us

  134. about the spirit? He's the witness. So,

  135. uh, you know, that's how we benefit,

  136. uh, from these things, listening to what

  137. what the son of God has to say about his

  138. father. And another verse you're

  139. familiar with, turn over to chapter 14,

  140. just letting these verses kind of ground

  141. us in this. And as we begin, go look at

  142. other verses here. He says, "Let not

  143. your heart be troubled. Believe in God,

  144. believe also in me. And in my father's

  145. house are many mansions. So Jesus is

  146. calling his father in heaven, God, the

  147. God of heaven, his father. And he says,

  148. in my father's house are many mansions.

  149. And you know, you guys are familiar with

  150. the verse here. But you know, if Jesus

  151. was not God, this would be blasphemy for

  152. him to talk like this. You know me, I'm

  153. equal with God. You know, I'm revealing

  154. God to you. I'm telling you about God

  155. and his will.

  156. And look in verse 12 of John 14. Verily,

  157. verily, I say unto you, he that believes

  158. on me, the works that I do shall he do

  159. also, and greater works than these shall

  160. you do, because I go to my father. So,

  161. he's going to leave them uh on the

  162. earth. And as he says here, go to the

  163. father. But that, you know, there's not

  164. less going to be done. there's there is

  165. more going to be done

  166. because God is his father. Then he says

  167. in verse 20, at that day you will know

  168. that I am in my father, ye in me and I

  169. in you. So there's that unity, you know,

  170. that that the father and the son are

  171. one. They're equal. They're they're

  172. equal members of the godhead. And the

  173. equal members of the godhead said that

  174. we're going to be one as they are one.

  175. And that's God's goal. That's the

  176. fatherhood of God is to make us one. And

  177. we see that over and over with the

  178. church. But it it goes beyond the

  179. church. We're going to see in a minute.

  180. Turn over to John 10

    John 10:30

  181. verse

  182. 30.

  183. Here he says, you're familiar with this

  184. verse.

  185. He says, "I and my father are one." So

  186. there's that unity there.

  187. Jesus said, "He that seen me has seen

  188. the father." And and likewise, so we

  189. have a representation of the godhead. Um

  190. and Jesus telling us about other members

  191. of the godhead here. Uh his his father,

  192. his heavenly father. And the we know

  193. that the father is giving his son an

  194. offering of his son to purchase and

  195. redeem us. You know that's the whole

  196. point of this that God the father is

  197. going to give God the son

  198. and next week and beyond we're going to

  199. start looking at God the son looking

  200. forward to that but we don't want to

  201. rush past the fatherhood of God here.

  202. And God the Father is mentioned 256

  203. times in the New Testament. I have

  204. missed that on a test. God the Father is

  205. mentioned 256 times in the New

  206. Testament. Jesus mentions him 17 times

  207. in the sermon on the mount. My father is

  208. perfect. You know those those wonderful

  209. verses. So turn back to John chapter 1.

    John 1 chapter mention

  210. John

    John 1 chapter mention

  211. chapter 1

  212. and verse 18

  213. says here, "No man has seen God at any

  214. time." You say, "Well, what about all

  215. these people that say they've seen God?"

  216. Well, either the Bible's lying or

  217. they're lying. I'm going to go with the

  218. Bible.

  219. And you know, no, you know what this

  220. means? No man has fully seen God. You

  221. can't do that and live,

  222. you know. But we have an alternative

  223. here, a great alternative. Uh the son

  224. has come from the bosom of the father as

  225. he puts it here to declare him. So the

  226. father is invisible,

  227. you know, and he he has all those divine

  228. attributes, you know, is there anything

  229. impossible for God? No. And he can

  230. provide a savior. And that's what he's

  231. done in the sending of his son. And uh

  232. you know we

  233. we know that the father has his

  234. personality. The son has his personality

  235. and and their persons. And and and this

  236. is important for us to see here that the

  237. father no one has seen the father at any

  238. time. The son has declared him. Now turn

  239. over to John 3

  240. 16.

  241. And and here's the purpose and you guys

  242. know this.

  243. One of the purposes

  244. um as Psalm 110 says that my Lord said

  245. to my Lord sat here and to I make all

  246. your enemies your foottool.

  247. Well, that was sort of the sidebar.

  248. um and the other accomplishments of

  249. Jesus here dying for our sins and

  250. accomplishing um this great salvation

  251. um for us.

  252. You know, salvation's a gift now

  253. of works

  254. because of what Jesus has done. And here

  255. he says he was sent forth from the

  256. father for God God so loved the world

  257. that he gave you know he sent him here

  258. uh his only begotten son that whosoever

  259. believes in him would not perish but

  260. have everlasting life for God sent not

  261. there's that word again he God the

  262. father sent his son

  263. he didn't come to condemn the world

  264. he should have he didn't he come to save

  265. the world next time he will condemn the

  266. world but this time he come to save the

  267. world so those are the reasons behind

  268. this is and this sending here and you

  269. know these are part of the mysteries of

  270. god you know that god would become a man

  271. uh for the reason and a purpose of uh

  272. paying for our sins and that's exactly

  273. what Jesus does as we look at the son of

  274. God uh in the weeks to come. Um we're

  275. going to see that from the word of God.

  276. He was sent here for a great reason. And

  277. you know, this doesn't mean that the Old

  278. Testament has nothing to say about this.

  279. You know, the father and the son. It

  280. does. Turn, if you will, uh to Isaiah

  281. 48.

  282. But you know, Jesus, he he's such a good

  283. teacher. Nobody ever spoke like him. So

  284. we have just, you know, page after page

  285. after page after page in the New

  286. Testament where Jesus said, "Here's my

  287. father

  288. and here's who he is and here's what

  289. we're doing." And and there was a great

  290. connection and a great unity um amongst

  291. the Godhead. But here in Isaiah 48,

  292. and you know, here is a really good

  293. verse to see the Trinity and to see, you

  294. know, what we're talking about in the

  295. New Testament, the fatherhood of God.

  296. You know, God's going to send his son

  297. that he might be uh the father of many.

  298. And here Isaiah says in verse 16, "Come

  299. near to me and hear this. I have not

  300. spoken in secret from the beginning and

  301. from the time that it was there uh am I

  302. and now the Lord God and his spirit has

  303. sent me. So here's the son of God saying

  304. that the father and the son and the

  305. spirit excuse me the father and the

  306. spirit are going to send the son in the

  307. old testament for what purpose?

  308. 7 verse 17 says, "Thus sayaeth the Lord

  309. thy redeemer, the holy one of Israel. I

  310. am the Lord your God who teaches thee to

  311. profit and leads thee by the way that

  312. you should go." So that's what God's

  313. going to do. He's going to send his son

  314. um for these specific reasons

  315. uh that we might get to know his son

  316. as our savior. Turn to Isaiah 63.

  317. Isaiah

  318. 63.

  319. You know, salvation is of the Lord.

  320. That's when we think we can do something

  321. or we have done something, you know, to

  322. to add to our salvation or to cause God

  323. to save us, we're missing out on what

  324. God has done.

  325. And that's what these verses say. God is

  326. going to become our redeemer. God is

  327. going to become our savior.

  328. And here in verse eight,

  329. for he said, "Surely they are my people

  330. and my children,

  331. and that will not lie." So he was their

  332. savior, and all their affliction, and

  333. their uh and the angel of his presence

  334. saved them. And in his love and in his

  335. pity, he redeemed them and he bore them

  336. and he carried them all the days of old.

  337. So, you know, we need to know that this

  338. is this invisible God that we can't see.

  339. You know, there's there are great

  340. external things about him, but there's

  341. also great internal things about him. He

  342. loves us. He's he's cares for us. And

  343. that's what this says here that he's

  344. going to redeem us. He's because he

  345. cares for us because he loves us. That's

  346. why he says God so loved the world that

  347. he gave his only begotten son. Here's

  348. that love in the Old Testament. Um and

  349. then we we're going to rebel and and vex

  350. the spirit and therefore, you know, he

  351. turned them to enemies and he fought

  352. against them. But but it helps us to see

  353. that, you know, even in the Old

  354. Testament, you know, God internally is

  355. has a great love for us that he's going

  356. to do something and redeem us. Turn to

  357. Luke chapter 2.

    Luke 2 chapter mention

  358. Luke chapter 2

    Luke 2 chapter mention

  359. and uh verse 49.

  360. Luke 2:49.

    Luke 2:49

  361. And you know, this is one of the first

  362. things out of Jesus mouth about his

  363. ministry on the earth.

  364. You know, it's just

  365. we celebrate Christmas and you know, we

  366. and just wonder that God hands off his

  367. son to mo to Mary and Joseph.

  368. And you know, here here's the perfect

  369. one. Um and and here's another example

  370. of something that this perfect one said.

  371. you know, he he was born of a virgin.

  372. Um, we're going to look at that virgin

  373. birth someday here soon, I hope. But

  374. here, how is it you sought me? Know know

  375. you not that I must be about my father's

  376. business? That's why I'm here. Jesus

  377. says, for my father's

  378. business. And then turn to Luke 23.

  379. Luke 23.

  380. And

  381. you know, no one spoke more about God

  382. the Father than Jesus did. You know, 256

  383. times it it is in the New Testament. 17

  384. times in the sermon on the mount. And

  385. here we see on the cross,

  386. Jesus says in verse 34,

  387. "Father, forgive them for they know not

  388. what they do."

  389. So he's still crying out to his father

  390. uh praying to his father asking his

  391. father uh to forgive them. So a lot of

  392. these verses

  393. uh we see Jesus constantly referring to

  394. God his father. And here in verse 20 46

  395. Luke 23:46 he does it again. Father,

    Luke 23:46

  396. into thy hands I commend my spirit. So

  397. he he gives up uh his spirit to the

  398. father. He gives up his life to the

  399. father. And that's exactly what he was.

  400. He was an offering

  401. uh for our sins. And when we look at the

  402. atonement

  403. and and and those things, we're going to

  404. see that in in a in in a greater way, in

  405. a deeper depth, I hope. But as we pass

  406. through and we're talking about the

  407. fatherhood of God, we want to know and

  408. remember that God sent his son on this

  409. mission

  410. um to come to earth and to save us. And

  411. uh you know Jesus even prayed to the

  412. father you know they you know we can

  413. look at that in in several places we

  414. won't

  415. but he prayed to the father and and the

  416. disciples said teach us to pray and he

  417. he he taught him how to come in and come

  418. to God and look at God as as a as a

  419. father figure

  420. and as one who cared greatly for them.

  421. you know, he's um you know, the Bible

  422. says Jesus is our friend. He's a friend

  423. to sinners and and and so is his father.

  424. His father is a is a friend to sinners.

  425. And he he's done great things that we

  426. might uh be born again. And you know,

  427. God the Father, he's uh he he's over the

  428. angels. We can look at the verses where

  429. uh it tells us that the father, he's the

  430. father of of the angels. He's the father

  431. of lights,

  432. you know, that's who

  433. um God the Father is.

  434. He's good. He's the the prodal son.

  435. Um the father wanted him to come home.

  436. The father wanted to, you know, he

  437. wanted to throw the party so that uh

  438. everybody would be there. He could be

  439. reconciled to his father. So there's

  440. that great love with which God uh has

  441. loved us and sent his son uh that he

  442. speaks of there in John

    John 3:16

  443. 3:16.

  444. So the names of God are they're special.

  445. They're important, you know, and and one

  446. of God's names is that he's the father.

  447. uh as these other verses that we've been

  448. looking at

  449. um here in the New Testament.

  450. In the Old Testament, you remember what

  451. happened back there in Exodus. Turn back

  452. to Exodus chapter 20.

    Exodus 20 chapter mention

  453. Exodus.

  454. This would be a good place if you had

  455. somebody who wasn't saved to bring them

  456. to show them the law and to show them

  457. God's demands and God's commands.

  458. you know, they're here

  459. uh all through this chapter

  460. and you know, the people

  461. broke them. Moses uh he he had to go

  462. back and talk to God and you know, other

  463. things are going to be to be set up

  464. here.

  465. But if you look here after God gives him

  466. the commandments,

  467. he says in verse 18, all the people saw

  468. the thunderings and the lightnings and

  469. the noise of the trumpet and the

  470. mountain smoking. And when the people

  471. saw it, they were moved and they stood

  472. far off.

  473. So the presence of this isn't even the

  474. full presence of God. This is a little

  475. bit after the law and after the

  476. commandments. And you know at least God

  477. gets their attention with these things

  478. and you know well this must be how great

  479. God is if you know he he's represents

  480. himself here in this manner the idols

  481. can't do this the idols can't uh do this

  482. only the god of the bible can do this

  483. and then uh you know that's what it says

  484. and it greatly affected all the people

  485. that's why god says don't go elsewhere

  486. come to

  487. you know, and and what did they do? They

  488. went elsewhere and they didn't come to

  489. him. And then he tells them they're not

  490. to make a steps up to his altar at the

  491. end of verse 20. So,

  492. you know, God's presence is something

  493. that should cause us uh to fear and to

  494. know that God's greater than us. God is

  495. superior to us. And you know, that's

  496. what happened to the nation of Israel

  497. here.

  498. Turn to Colossians chapter 1.

    Colossians 1 chapter mention

  499. We have this verse here about the

  500. about the image of God.

  501. In verse 15,

  502. you know, so this God who is thundering

  503. from the mountains that's holy,

  504. that's his external being they saw and

  505. now his internal being they're going to

  506. see when he sends his son Jesus that's

  507. going to come and die for our sins. It's

  508. cost God a lot. I mean, we don't have

  509. anything to even illustrate this. I

  510. mean, the best we can do is with Abraham

  511. when he offered Isaac, you know, it was

  512. uh, you know, the the the seconds were

  513. ticking down and God called the whole

  514. thing off.

  515. But God didn't call the whole thing off

  516. for himself.

  517. He went through with it

  518. because of his love, because of his

  519. great care for us and sending his son,

  520. his only son. And that's what verse 15

  521. says, who is the image of the invisible

  522. God. God's invisible. We have him

  523. thundering from the mountains back here.

  524. We have a lot of verses that help us,

  525. you know, to see these things. But now

  526. we can see the in the the insight of

  527. God, the love of God is to that he would

  528. send forth his son.

  529. And that's what he says in verse 16. For

  530. by him were all things created that are

  531. in heaven and earth, visible and

  532. invisible, thrones, dominions,

  533. principalities, and powers. All things

  534. were created by him and for him. And he

  535. is before all things, and by him all

  536. things consist. So he he's God,

  537. you know. So God sent God to the earth.

  538. And it pleased the father. There it is.

  539. And in him should all the fullness

  540. dwell. God said, "I'll put it all in

  541. him. Put it all on my son."

  542. And guess what happened? He he come

  543. through.

  544. And he made peace. Now we have peace

  545. with God. Now, not because of anything

  546. that we've done, but because of what God

  547. the Father has done, God the Son has

  548. done, God the Holy Spirit has done, you

  549. know, and he he identified with us. He

  550. became a man. And uh you know, the the

  551. son is co-equal with the father,

  552. co-equal with the spirit. And you know

  553. that's what qualified him uh to die on

  554. our behalf.

  555. And then

  556. what's the hard part? God said believe

  557. it.

  558. Just believe it. That's all you need to

  559. do.

  560. You hear and you believe. Be born again.

  561. Receive the gift that I have prepared

  562. for you.

  563. So there is no origin with God. The

  564. father, God the son, God the holy

  565. spirit. you know, they've been uh

  566. forever in eternity and they have these

  567. external attributes and they have these

  568. internal attributes and you know, God's

  569. love has been displayed for us at the

  570. cross so that we might know who he is,

  571. you know. So, and then you know the

  572. oneness here that that the father has

  573. uh accomplished through his son. You

  574. know, we see it in the church. You know,

  575. that we would be one

  576. in the church. Not two churches or three

  577. or four. There's one.

  578. and and the same redeemer, the same

  579. savior, the same God provided a way

  580. through uh his son in to bring Israel in

  581. as well. You know, they're chosen of

  582. God.

  583. So, Christ is going to unite Israel.

  584. He's going to unite us, Gentiles. He's

  585. going to unite uh you know everyone from

  586. every corner of the earth that has come

  587. to God through Jesus Christ. So God the

  588. father said that that that Israel was

  589. his for firstborn son. Uh to Solomon he

  590. said I will be his father. He will be my

  591. son.

  592. So we have those things in the Bible

  593. talking about um the great fatherhood of

  594. God. I go back to John

  595. chapter one.

  596. John chapter 1.

    John 1 chapter mention

  597. So that's who Jesus is. No mystery.

  598. He He is

  599. sent from God. Sent from God the Father.

  600. And here we have that in verse 29.

  601. John 1:29.

    John 1:29

  602. The next day, John

  603. sees Jesus coming and said, "Behold

  604. the lamb of God." Remember, everything

  605. that says of God is is divine. It It's

  606. of him.

  607. So, the lamb is from God. The lamb is of

  608. God. And here's what he's going to do.

  609. He's going to take away the sin of the

  610. world. Wow. What an accomplishment that

  611. will be. So, you know, we have all these

  612. I am through John over and over. Jesus

  613. says I am. And uh some of them

  614. understood and some did not. But uh you

  615. know this is Jesus coming to reveal the

  616. the plan of redemption, who he is and

  617. the great love with which the father

  618. loves us. Turn over to John 17.

  619. John 17.

  620. And they're equal in glory. The father

  621. and the son are equal in glory.

  622. Therefore, they must be God. both of

  623. them.

  624. And here in verse five,

  625. what's Jesus say? He doesn't say, "Oh

  626. God," he says, "Oh father,

  627. glorify thy me with thy own self with

  628. which a glory I have with you before the

  629. world was." So,

  630. you know, here here's a great verse for

  631. the preexistence of Jesus.

  632. You know, his body had a beginning.

  633. Um, and then you know that's what it

  634. says in Hebrews that the father says,

  635. you know, I I I prepared a body for you.

  636. And and Jesus became a man. He became

  637. the God man. He the son of God and the

  638. son of man welded together perfectly.

  639. And now look in verse 24.

  640. Father,

  641. I will that they also whom you have

  642. given me be with me where I am that they

  643. may behold

  644. my glory which you have given me from

  645. the because you love me from the

  646. foundation of the world. So, you know,

  647. here's, you know, God's great glory

  648. externally, his majesty and everything

  649. else, but as well internally, we see the

  650. love here between the the father and the

  651. son.

  652. And then God demonstrates that great

  653. love there in John 3:16 that we looked

    John 3:16

  654. at. And uh, you know, all three members

  655. of the trinity were volunteers when it

  656. come to our redemption.

  657. You know, we have Isaiah 6 where uh

  658. Jesus said, "Here am I, send me." So,

  659. each one of the members of the Trinity

  660. volunteered

  661. to accomplish our salvation.

  662. Nothing we ask for. It's nothing we

  663. deserved. Nothing we can twist our arm

  664. about. We just believe it and and accept

  665. it and thank God for it.

  666. you know, God found a way um to

  667. accomplish our salvation just totally

  668. apart from us. You know, that's the

  669. great thing about it. You know, he he

  670. said, "It is finished." Jesus did. And

  671. so it was.

  672. And now, you know, through God's wisdom

  673. and God's understanding and God's ways

  674. are not our ways, but Jesus has united.

  675. He's going to unite Israel with the

  676. church and, you know, take over the

  677. world and, you know, get rid of it and

  678. replace it and all those things that we

  679. have in the book of Revelation. It's you

  680. got to be God in order to do those

  681. things. And he indeed is God.

  682. And you know, the father does all his

  683. work through his son. Turn to 1

    1 Corinthians 3 chapter mention

  684. Corinthians chapter 3.

  685. 1 Corinthians chapter 3.

    1 Corinthians 3 chapter mention

  686. You know, that's that's the great cry

  687. from God is, you know, don't work for

  688. your salvation. Don't try to earn it.

  689. You're bankrupt. You're in a you have a

  690. greater debt than you can pay. Just

  691. receive what I have made for you. What?

  692. Receive what I have to give you.

  693. And it's in the person and the work of

  694. Christ. And the father does everything

  695. through his son. He said that over and

  696. over. So now we can be forgiven. Now we

  697. can be born again. You know, now we can

  698. be sanctified. You know, now we can have

  699. the fruit of the spirit. Now we can have

  700. fellowship with God. Now all these

  701. things that we can have is because of

  702. what Jesus did.

  703. and 1 Corinthians

    1 Corinthians 3:23

  704. 3:23.

  705. Nothing more needs to be done. We have a

  706. sufficient savior. We have a sufficient

  707. salvation.

  708. We have a sufficient word of God.

  709. God says just trust in me.

  710. And you are Christ and Christ is God. Uh

  711. here in verse 23, it's all in him.

  712. So submit yourself to him. You know,

  713. trust him. as your Lord and your Savior.

  714. Believe on him as the scripture has

  715. said, and out of your heart will flow

  716. rivers of living water. All these great

  717. and wonderful things that God said he

  718. would do if we would come to him through

  719. his son. And then that's what Jesus

  720. said. Don't try to go another way.

  721. You're not going to get there. Come the

  722. way of Jesus. Come the way of the cross.

  723. Philippians chapter 2.

    Philippians 2 chapter mention

  724. Philippians.

  725. You know, this is one of the hardest

  726. lessons

  727. for the apostles to learn. This is one

  728. of the hardest lessons for the nation of

  729. Israel

  730. to learn.

  731. God became a servant. You're kidding me.

  732. God come to earth and washed our feet.

  733. You're kidding me.

  734. No, I'm not. He did. Isaiah, Isaiah,

  735. other places in the Old Testament over

  736. and over and over tell us this.

  737. And then when the uh apostles were with

  738. him in the upper room,

  739. um he took the apron

  740. and the towel and the wash basin was

  741. going to wash their feet. And Peter

  742. said, "No way

  743. is the God of heaven going to wash my

  744. feet." And then you know what happened?

  745. Jesus said, "Then you have no part with

  746. me." And Peter said, "Then wash my feet

  747. and wash all of me."

  748. God became a servant.

  749. Uh subjected himself

  750. to humanity.

  751. Let he come down here and let us put a

  752. crown of thorns on him. He come down

  753. here and let us spit on him. He come

  754. down here and let us blaspheme him.

  755. Why? And it had a purpose to show us

  756. what true love is

  757. and to show us what redemption is.

  758. And Philippians,

  759. Paul tells them the same thing here.

  760. If there be therefore any consolation in

  761. Christ,

  762. any comfort of love, any fellowship of

  763. the spirit, any tender mercies and

  764. compassions,

  765. fulfill you my joy, that you may be like

  766. minded. What

  767. God wants me to be likeminded like his

  768. son. There was nothing beneath beneath

  769. Jesus. He'd washed her feet. There

  770. should be nothing beneath me. I should

  771. be willing to do the same.

  772. My Savior showed me the way.

  773. And then he says, "Let nothing be done

  774. through strife and vain glory, but

  775. loneliness of mind. Let each esteem

  776. others better than himself. Let not

  777. every man look upon his own thing, but

  778. every man on the things of others."

  779. That's what Jesus did.

  780. He was rich, but he became poor for our

  781. sakes. And let this mind be in you,

  782. which was also in Christ Jesus,

  783. who being in the form of God, thought

  784. not robbery to be equal with God, made

  785. himself of no reputation, took upon him

  786. the form of a servant, and was made in

  787. the likeness of man. And as Hebrews

  788. says, he didn't become an angel,

  789. he become a man,

  790. a human being.

  791. for great reason. The father sent his

  792. son. And these are the things that Paul

  793. was telling the Philippians about here.

  794. So, it's not inconsistent with their

  795. equality where you say, "Oh, well, God

  796. the Father, he'd never do this. He'd

  797. never submit himself the way the son

  798. did." Well, that's, you know,

  799. foolishness.

  800. God's a trinity. God did this for us. He

  801. became a man and he submitted himself

  802. for us to show us how to do this. And

  803. you know, we have we have people that

  804. are in the army, we have we have

  805. generals and we have privates,

  806. but they're both soldiers, you know. And

  807. uh so another one is is motherhood. You

  808. know, we have

  809. husband and wife become one flesh and

  810. the wife submits herself to the husband.

  811. She's no less a human being than her

  812. husband is. But that's just the position

  813. that she's in. And it's following the

  814. will of God.

  815. And that's what the son did. He

  816. submitted himself

  817. to the father's will. That's that's this

  818. divine procession where you know God

  819. sent his son. God sent his son for a

  820. reason uh to teach us and to show us um

  821. these incredible things. Turn to Malachi

    Malachi 2 chapter mention

  822. chapter 2

  823. right before Matthew.

  824. Malachi chapter 2.

    Malachi 2 chapter mention

  825. And you know, some people think that

  826. because God became a man and because God

  827. submitted himself

  828. uh in in this way that it, you know,

  829. he's no longer God. He's is it's

  830. lessened him. He's lost his glory.

  831. Well, not so. He's gained his glory even

  832. more. And and that's what Jesus did when

  833. he left. He went back to the right hand

  834. of the father. Accomplished everything

  835. his father sent him to earth to do.

  836. And here in Malachi chapter 2 and verse

    Malachi 2 chapter mention

  837. 10, he says, "Have we not all one

  838. father? Have not one God created us?

  839. Why do we deal treacherously

  840. every man against his brother and

  841. profaining the covenant of our father?"

  842. So, you know, we're all of this human

  843. race. Wherever we're from, whether we're

  844. Jew or Gentile, whether we're an

  845. American or wherever we are, we're all

  846. one race before God the Father here.

  847. That's what this means. Turn to

  848. Ephesians chapter 3.

    Ephesians 3 chapter mention

  849. So that you know that when God says he

  850. so loved the world, well this is the

  851. world that he loves. Not just the Jews

  852. and Gentiles, not just the rich and the

  853. poor, but everybody.

  854. And here

  855. in Ephesians chapter 3

    Ephesians 3 chapter mention

  856. and verse 14,

  857. you know, Paul

  858. was raised on the Old Testament. Paul

  859. was raised on these great things that

  860. the Jews had.

  861. And now Paul, he's blown away by what

  862. God has done,

  863. sending

  864. um people to uh

  865. to witness to the Gentiles and to bring

  866. the Gentiles in through the blood of

  867. Christ.

  868. And he writes about that in this book.

  869. But here he says in in verse 14,

  870. you know, the the Jewish nation has been

  871. put on the shelf momentarily and

  872. temporarily.

  873. Romans chapter 11.

    Romans 11 chapter mention

  874. But Paul says, "Wow, God's bringing in

  875. Gentiles

  876. through this great work of redemption."

  877. And here in chapter 3:14, here's the the

  878. word. He says, uh, for this cause I bow

  879. on my knees unto the father of our Lord

  880. Jesus Christ, of whom the whole family

  881. in heaven and earth is named. You know,

  882. so they're people who were saved before

  883. they were Jews. You know, the Jews

  884. weren't the first people to be saved.

  885. You know, we have Adam and Eve and we

  886. have, you know, people that were saved

  887. before there was a nation of Israel.

  888. We're going to have people saved that

  889. aren't part of the nation of Israel

  890. someday. And God the Son has done such a

  891. fantastic work. He's united us all

  892. together as one big family

  893. of God.

  894. The universal fatherhood of God.

  895. And if that's the case, that means the

  896. universal brotherhood. I mean, we should

  897. be going to every corner of the earth

  898. telling every person we know

  899. about this great gift

  900. of eternal life.

  901. And you know, this is the again the

  902. world that God loves and wants us to go

  903. into. Turn to Acts 17.

  904. Acts 17.

  905. and verse 29. Acts 17

  906. and verse 29

  907. he here he says uh Paul does for as much

  908. then as we are the offspring of God

  909. that's that's the fatherhood of God you

  910. know over all creation

  911. um I don't know if you watched the

  912. Kentucky Derby yesterday but those

  913. horses are amazing

  914. And you know, uh, Henry Ford made the

  915. horseless carriage, but God made the

  916. horse.

  917. Those horses are incredible.

  918. And not only did God make the horse, he

  919. made Henry Ford,

  920. you know. So there's been a great

  921. blessing God has poured out on on us as

  922. people and as a nation that just the

  923. love of God and the kindness of God and

  924. the care of God. He's, you know, he's

  925. there and uh he cares and and everything

  926. is going to go back to him now through

  927. his son

  928. and and yeah, we know there are going to

  929. be a lot of unsaved people. We know

  930. there are going to be a lot of people

  931. that aren't saved and and are going to

  932. meet their judgment and and all those

  933. things are true as well. But for us, we

  934. are a part of God's family now. We are

  935. in Christ, you know, and and uh the

  936. greater care that God has for us like

  937. Romans chapter 8 says that we can call

    Romans 8 chapter mention

  938. uh God we can say abba father you know

  939. that that's what we can say. We can now

  940. call God our father.

  941. You know that's how great this uh

  942. accomplishment of Jesus is on our

  943. behalf. Turn to John chapter 20.

    John 20 chapter mention

  944. And here you remember this is after the

  945. resurrection. This is uh in the upper

  946. room. And Jesus says some very he says

  947. some amazing things here.

  948. And

  949. to help us

  950. and you know he he lived his life right

  951. before our eyes.

  952. He didn't hide.

  953. Whatever come his way he dealt with it.

  954. Whoever come his way he dealt with it.

  955. And we have him as and and

  956. extreme example.

  957. You know, Christ is that's why we study

  958. him. That's why he he's our all in all.

  959. That's why, you know, everything we need

  960. to know is in him and from him and to

  961. him like Paul told to Corinthians.

  962. And God has done such a great thing as

  963. sending his son. And he says here after

  964. the resurrection, touch me not,

  965. for I have not yet ascended to my

  966. father. That's probably what I would

  967. want to do. Come here, Lord. Let me hug

  968. you.

  969. Notice he says my father.

  970. Now God's his father. His God was his

  971. father way, way back there. And now

  972. after the resurrection, Jesus is calling

  973. God as father. That's a human being

  974. here. And as God,

  975. he says, "Go to my brethren." Now we've

  976. got Now Jesus has brothers and sisters.

  977. That's us.

  978. And I ascended to my father

  979. and and not your father. No, he says,

  980. "And your father, too. To my God and

  981. your God."

  982. And now we can have this great peace.

  983. Verse 19, peace be unto you.

  984. Um

  985. verse 21, peace be unto you. As my

  986. father has sent me,

  987. even so I send you. Jesus is the great

  988. apostle.

  989. You know, he he's the sent one from

  990. heaven to do his father's will.

  991. And now because he did all those things,

  992. we can know God as our father.

  993. and he says, "Receive the Holy Spirit."

  994. So he he breathes on them the breath of

  995. God and they receive the Holy Spirit and

  996. he goes on here uh to tell them, you

  997. know, all these incredible things.

  998. So our great apostle has become our

  999. great shepherd

1000. and he has a church now and that's

1001. uh what he wants to do. And now turn

  1002. back to Ephesians again

1003. and we're going to see what changed

  1004. after this.

1005. You know, that's what that was Peter's

  1006. message. You don't don't you people

1007. realize what you just did?

1008. You know, you've killed Jesus of

1009. Nazareth. You thought you got rid of

1010. your problem, but bad news, he's coming

  1011. back

1012. and and he's not our problem. He's our

  1013. savior.

1014. And now in him and through him,

1015. uh, can we have this fellowship with

1016. God? And that's what they needed to do.

1017. They needed to get b to be born again to

1018. come to him. But notice now here in

1019. chapter 1 of Ephesians in verse three

1020. how Paul refers to him.

1021. Not blessed be the God and the father of

  1022. Jesus of Nazareth.

1023. Oh yeah he was Jesus of Nazareth but no

1024. now he's the Lord Jesus Christ.

1025. And then Paul says who blessed us with

1026. everything. It's all in him. And we're

1027. going to see that when we study God the

1028. Son. We're going to see, you know, his

1029. person and his work. The Bible has this

1030. phrase in Christ. You know, so if you're

1031. not in Christ, you don't have the

1032. spirit. Romans 8. If you're not in

1033. Christ, you don't have eternal life. If

1034. you're not in Christ, you don't have

1035. anything this book talks about. But if

1036. you are in Christ, you have everything

1037. this book talks about. God put it all in

1038. his son. And and we see the great work

1039. that both of them did for us. And now

1040. he's the son of God. He's the son of

1041. man. Uh he's carried out his father's

1042. plan. That's the next part of the book

1043. of Ephesians. And next time we get

1044. together, we're going to look at some of

1045. these thing, what the son of God has

1046. done for us in further detail. Let's

1047. pray. Our heavenly father, we thank you

1048. for sending forth your son.

1049. Um, it's an amazing gift.

1050. Um, and we just thank you for it. Not of

1051. works less any man should boast, but by

1052. grace we are saved through faith. And

1053. not of ourselves, it's a gift of God,

1054. not of works less anyone should boast.

1055. So, Father, we thank you for this gift.

1056. And um he that has the son has life. He

1057. that has not the son will not see life,

1058. but the wrath of God abides on him. So

1059. thank you for this great and precious

1060. gift of Jesus. Thank you for the word of

1061. God that explains these things to us so

  1062. we can understand them.

1063. All the proclamations that Jesus made of

1064. the father, we thank you for them. And

1065. he has made you known to us like he said

1066. he would. And we thank you for these

1067. things as well. And Holy Spirit, we

1068. thank you for the illuminating power you

1069. give us in your word to see these great

1070. and precious things. So we're thankful

1071. this morning to be in Christ. And we

1072. pray for others to come to know him as

1073. well. And we pray in Jesus name. Amen.

1074. Lord, as we go from this place,

  1075. loving you more,

  1076. trusting you more.

1077. May the power of your love and the light

1078. of your word shine to a sin darkened

1079. world. As we go from this place,
