  1. things as well and uh you know his his

  2. attributes

  3. uh and his humanity

  4. you know I remember a camp last year we

  5. looked at the the humanity and the deity

  6. of Jesus and you can't separate them

  7. first I was going to like well I'll do

  8. one message and I'll do the other

  9. message but it doesn't work like that

  10. you know they're together his humanity

  11. and his deity are are together the

  12. prophecies about Jesus in the Old

  13. Testament

  14. uh and and uh the the theophies that we

  15. have in the Old Testament, these all go

  16. together. So this is his preexistence.

  17. You know the you know we have a word

  18. like eternal and when we think about man

  19. the thing that we have that's eternal

  20. was our soul. God gave us a he made us

  21. and gave us a living soul that's going

  22. to live forever.

  23. So we have that eternal part in us. We

  24. have eternal life in us. That's what

  25. unsaved man needs is is life and eternal

  26. life from God.

  27. So here we see that you know that that's

  28. who the son of God is. He is able to do

  29. that. He is the light of the world. And

  30. uh this pre-existence, it means that you

  31. know somebody that doesn't have a

  32. beginning

  33. and somebody that doesn't have an

  34. ending.

  35. Well, that would have to be God, right?

  36. So, you know, this goes hand in hand

  37. with uh the deity and the attributes

  38. of the son of God.

  39. But you know Jesus, he's the very unique

  40. person

  41. and the God man who existed before he

  42. existed.

  43. You know, when he was born in the

  44. manger, he he made he made all those

  45. animals that were there Mary, you know,

  46. he it's uh it's just an incredible

  47. thought and an incredible thing to know

  48. that he existed before he existed. So

  49. this morning we're going to start out in

  50. Genesis

  51. and look at some of these um we call

  52. them theophonies.

  53. Uh and and that's what they are. That's

  54. a good term for them. But you know these

  55. things prove that Jesus existed

  56. um before he existed

  57. and uh come to us in the manger. And

  58. we're going to start in Genesis chapter

    Genesis 16 chapter mention

  59. 16 this morning.

  60. And here is Sarah.

  61. And you know, God appeared directly

  62. with Abraham. And Sarah, we're going to

  63. see it happen with Abraham here uh in a

  64. couple chapters.

  65. But it says here, the angel of the Lord,

  66. and the word angel, don't forget it

  67. means messenger

  68. with a message, you know. So, even

  69. Jesus, we're going to see in the New

  70. Testament, he's he's a messenger with a

  71. message. And here he is with with Sarah

  72. uh in Genesis chapter 16 appearing as

    Genesis 16 chapter mention

  73. the angel of the Lord or the messenger

  74. of the Lord, the Lord himself. And he

  75. found her by the fountain of water in

  76. the wilderness and by the fountain in

  77. the way to shure. And he said, "Hagar,

  78. um, Sarah's maid, where did you come

  79. from, and where will you go?" And she

  80. said, "I am from the face of this

  81. mistress Sarah." And the angel of the

  82. Lord said to her, "Return to your

  83. mistress and submit yourself to her

  84. hand." And the angel of the Lord said

  85. unto her, "I will multiply your seed

  86. exceedingly

  87. uh, and it shall not be numbered for a

  88. multitude." And the angel of the Lord

  89. said, "Behold, you are with child.

  90. You'll bear a son, and his name will be

  91. Ishmael. And behold, the Lord will hear

  92. your affliction, and he will be a wild

  93. man. His hand will rest against every

  94. man, and every man's hand against him,

  95. and he will dwell in the presence of his

  96. brethren. And she called the name of the

  97. place that God uh seeth me, for uh I

  98. have seen him, and that he sees me. So

  99. God, the angel here is the Lord Jesus,

  100. the pre-incarnate

  101. Lord Jesus. Genesis is one of the

  102. theophonies. I turn over to Genesis

    Genesis 18 chapter mention

  103. chapter 18.

  104. And here in verse one,

  105. this is where Abraham was called the

  106. friend of God because God visited him.

  107. And this is the the pre-incarnate uh

  108. Jesus Christ, the son of God.

  109. And the Lord appeared unto him by the

  110. oaks of Mamry and said unto him in the

  111. tent door in the heat of the day. So

  112. here is that appearance now as well with

  113. Abraham. So these two kind of introduce

  114. us to this thought of you know the son

  115. of God appearing in the Old Testament uh

  116. centuries before

  117. uh his incarnation.

  118. Now turn to chapter 22 of Genesis.

  119. 22

  120. and verse 11.

  121. And here we have that again. The angel

  122. of the Lord called

  123. unto him out of heaven, Abraham,

  124. Abraham, and he said, uh, here, here am

  125. I. So, this again is the pre-incarnate

  126. Christ. And again, the angel means a

  127. messenger with a message. And that's

  128. what the pre-incarnate Christ does here

  129. is give Abraham this message um for you

  130. know him him to know and to understand

  131. these things. And it goes all the way on

  132. down to verse 18 there. So Abraham

  133. returned to his young men and they rose

  134. up. They went together uh to Beersa and

  135. Abraham dwelt there. So God, the son

  136. appeared uh to to uh Hagar and to

  137. Abraham here to get the program of God

  138. going as God said back there in Genesis

    Genesis 12 chapter mention

  139. chapter 12, I'll make you a great

  140. nation. Well, here he is making them a

  141. great nation. Now turn over to chapter

  142. 31,

  143. Genesis 31

  144. and verse 11.

  145. Genesis 31:11.

    Genesis 31:11

  146. And here we see again

  147. the angel of God. Here it's the angel of

  148. God or the angel of the Lord. Now it's

  149. the angel of God. You come to me in a

  150. dream saying, you know, here I am. And

  151. lift up now your eyes and see upon the

  152. cattle are striped and speckled and

  153. spotted. For I've seen all that Laban

  154. has done unto thee. I am the God of

  155. Bethl. So now we don't have to wonder

  156. anymore who this angel is. God says it's

  157. me. You know, God uh in the Old

  158. Testament here sending uh this message

  159. to Abraham to get this nation going that

  160. he had promised them.

  161. Now we go into the book of Exodus.

  162. Exodus chapter 3.

    Exodus 3 chapter mention

  163. And here we see

  164. in verse two, the angel of the Lord

  165. appeared unto him in a flame

  166. of fire out of the middle of the bush.

  167. And remember

  168. that, you know, we need to remember that

  169. God reveals himself as fire.

  170. And uh here we see this uh we're going

  171. to see it uh some more as we go into the

  172. New Testament. But remember that God, he

  173. reveals himself to be fire, to be a

  174. flame here out of the midst of the bush.

  175. And look, behold, the bush burned with

  176. fire, but the bush was not consumed. And

  177. u Moses said, "I will now turn aside and

  178. see thy great sight and why the bush is

  179. not burnt." And when the Lord saw that

  180. he turned aside, God called unto him in

  181. the midst of the bush and to Moses and

  182. he said, "Here I am or here am I." So

  183. this is God, the pre-incarnate Christ

  184. appearing uh to Moses. So he did to

  185. Abraham, he did to Haggi,

  186. Hagar. And here we go again to uh see

  187. that he appeared to Moses here in the

  188. burning bush. And verse four, you know,

  189. leaves no doubt. Who is this? This is

  190. God. A God appearing as a fire uh not

  191. consuming um the bush. So this is the

  192. pre-incarnate Christ here in the Old

  193. Testament for us to see. Uh, now turn

  194. over to Exodus chapter 14

    Exodus 14 chapter mention

  195. and that's what you know

  196. what happened when the Holy Spirit came

  197. in the church age to the church. He he

  198. came as a fire there. And you know

  199. that's how God reveals himself to us

  200. sometimes is it's by a fire. And he did

  201. here with Moses.

  202. And now if you will look in chapter 14

  203. and verse 19.

  204. And the angel of the Lord who went

  205. before the camp of Israel, he moved and

  206. went behind them uh and the pillar of

  207. the cloud went from before their face

  208. and stood behind them. So here get the

  209. angel of the Lord and again this is the

  210. pre-incarnate Christ.

  211. So God has brought Abraham

  212. uh to himself. God has brought Sarah and

  213. and uh the whole program of God to

  214. himself. And as well he continues now

  215. with with the children of Israel and

  216. with Moses. He appears here as a pillar

  217. of fire.

  218. Now turn to chapter 23 of Exodus.

    Exodus 23 chapter mention

  219. Chapter 23

  220. in verse

  221. 20.

  222. Exodus 23:20 here says, "And behold, I

    Exodus 23:20

  223. send an angel before thee to keep thee

  224. in thy way and to bring unto thee into

  225. the place which I have prepared." So,

  226. you know, it's it's God appearing to

  227. them uh to bring this message and and uh

  228. you know, the pre-incarnate Christ. So,

  229. that's who he is and that's what he did

  230. for the nation of Israel. We see God

  231. continue to guide and direct them

  232. through this journey that they're on.

  233. Turn over to Exodus 32.

  234. And you know, this is the one where Paul

  235. in First Corinthians brings this up and

  236. says that it was Christ.

  237. So, you know, that was part of our

  238. understanding in church history. You

  239. know, once once we had the New Testament

  240. and we had Paul saying, "Hey, that was

  241. Christ." Then, you know, leaves no doubt

  242. that it was him.

  243. because the word Christ is not in the

  244. Old Testament.

  245. Um,

  246. but he is in the Old Testament and we're

  247. seeing him here as the angel of the

  248. Lord. Exodus 32

  249. and then verse 34.

  250. Therefore, now go and lead the people

  251. unto the place which I have spoken of.

  252. And behold, my angel will go before

  253. thee. And nevertheless, in the day when

  254. I will visit, I will visit their sin

  255. upon them. And the le the Lord's plagued

  256. the people because they made a calf

  257. which Aaron uh had made. So here God

  258. continues to lead them uh into the

  259. promised land or toward the promised

  260. land um as a fire, as a light for them.

  261. I turn to Numbers

  262. 22.

  263. Numbers 22

    Numbers 22:22

  264. verse 22.

  265. Numbers chapter 22 and verse 22. We read

    Numbers 22 chapter mention

  266. here that

  267. and and God's anger was kindled because

  268. he went and the angel of the Lord stood

  269. in the way for the adversaries against

  270. him, you know, so God, you know, can

  271. protect and there's just so many things

  272. that that he did for them, you know,

  273. just to secure, you know, who they were

  274. and the promises that he had given to

  275. them. And you know this is when we know

  276. Balam come to curse Israel.

  277. And um you know God was there uh and he

  278. saw the angel of the Lord standing in

  279. the way and with sword drawn in his hand

  280. uh and uh the ass turned up aside out of

  281. the way and he went into the field and

  282. balam schmote the ass and he turned in

  283. the way. But the angel of the Lord stood

  284. in the path

  285. uh of the vineyards and the wall on the

  286. sides and the wall being on both sides.

  287. And when the ass saw the angel of the

  288. Lord,

  289. she thrust herself into the wall and and

  290. uh crushed Balam's foot against the wall

  291. and smoked them. So here we see the

  292. pillar uh here we see the fire. Here we

  293. see the angel of God protecting

  294. uh them from uh this idol of Balum and

  295. his prophets.

  296. Uh Judges chapter 6.

    Judges 6 chapter mention

  297. Judges chapter 6. Here we have Gideon.

    Judges 6 chapter mention

  298. And a similar thing,

  299. you know, when these these guys went to

  300. battle,

  301. God was with them and protecting them,

  302. you know, and that's what they need to

  303. know that that, you know, God was going

  304. to protect them.

  305. And they needed to keep on trusting in

  306. the God of the Bible.

  307. And here's Gideon in Judges 6 and verse

  308. 11.

  309. And there come an angel of the Lord. And

  310. he sat under the oak, which was 04,

  311. pertaining unto Joash, and the Abites,

  312. and his son Gideon, threshed wheat by

  313. the wine press to hide from the

  314. Midionites. So here we see God, the the

  315. son of God, the pre-incarnate son of

  316. God, there with Gideon, even in this

  317. battle uh to help him.

  318. Um I'll just mention a few more. Uh

  319. Monoah Judges chapter 13 helped the

    Judges 13 chapter mention

  320. angel of the Lord helped find Samson a

  321. wife. Uh the one appearance in 1

  322. Chronicles 21 where you know David

  323. sinned by numbering the people and you

  324. know a similar thing happened. The Lord

  325. appeared to him and here's one of my

  326. favorites. Uh go to first Kings 19.

  327. And remember the angel of the Lord was

  328. he was a messenger with a message.

  329. And here in first kings chapter 19

    1 Kings 19 chapter mention

  330. and verse 5

  331. know this is so encouraging

  332. prophet is depressed and wants to get

  333. out of here

  334. and you know we all can get in that

  335. condition.

  336. We're all human

  337. and God comes

  338. to help Elijah here.

  339. And you know the story about if you

  340. never read this, this is this is a good

  341. one to read.

  342. This is the battle between the false

  343. prophets and the and the true prophet.

  344. And um you know Jesus is the true

  345. prophet. He's going to defeat all the

  346. false prophets.

  347. And here we see Elijah in chapter 19

  348. verse 5.

  349. He says, "And as he laid and he slept

  350. under the juniper tree, behold, the

  351. angel touched him and said unto him,

  352. Arise and eat." And this angel was none

  353. other than the Lord Jesus Christ. And

  354. the angel of the Lord came again the

  355. second time touched him and said, "Arise

  356. and eat because the journey is too great

  357. for thee." So God saw fit to come to

  358. Elijah and say, "Hey, you better eat

  359. before we leave. They're going to get

  360. hungry." May seem little for us, but you

  361. know, that's how much God cares for them

  362. and God cares for us. So the angel of

  363. the Lord here came with the message. So

  364. you know, this kind of thing was over

  365. and over in the Old Testament um for us

  366. to clearly see, you know, this wasn't

  367. just a one-time thing. It it happened

  368. several times. Now turn to Jeremiah.

  369. Jeremiah

  370. 31

  371. Jeremiah 31:31

    Jeremiah 31:31

  372. Jeremiah 31

  373. and verse 31.

  374. Behold, the day come, sayeth the Lord,

  375. that I will make a new covenant

  376. with the house of Israel and with the

  377. house of Judah, not according to the

  378. covenant that I made with them, uh, but

  379. to bring them out of the land, uh, and

  380. to the covenant which they broke,

  381. although I was a husband unto them,

  382. sayeth the Lord. So, seems like a

  383. strange thing to call God our husband,

  384. you know, but that's what he did to this

  385. nation. That's what he did um for

  386. Elijah. That's what he did for Moses.

  387. That's what he did for Abraham. That's

  388. what he did for Hagar.

  389. You know, he sent a message to them and

  390. was their husband

  391. uh in a sense of uh you know, bringing

  392. this great message and direction to them

  393. about this covenant that God was going

  394. to make.

  395. And but this shall be the covenant that

  396. I will make with the house of Israel

  397. after those days, say the Lord, I will

  398. put my law in their inward parts. I will

  399. write in their hearts, and I will be

  400. their God, and they will be my people,

  401. and they shall teach no more every man

  402. his neighbor or his brother, saying,

  403. "Know the Lord, for they shall know me

  404. from the least to the greatest. And thus

  405. sayeth the Lord, I will forgive their

  406. iniquities and I will remember their

  407. sins no more. So that's what God is

  408. doing.

  409. You know, if we go back to Genesis in

  410. chapter 3, where was where it was uh

  411. Adam and Eve?

  412. Then then we can see there in chapter

  413. three where God said he was going to do

  414. this. I'm going to send a redeemer. I'm

  415. going to send, you know, somebody to

  416. crush Satan's head. You know, then he

  417. told Abraham, I want to make you a great

  418. nation. He brought he brought Moses. He

  419. brought the the children out of Israel.

  420. You know, God did all these things

  421. through his word and through his

  422. messengers. And these people followed

  423. God and God took care of them and God

  424. established this covenant, you know,

  425. with them. And look at verse 35. Thus

  426. sayith the Lord who give the sun for

  427. light for day and the ordinances of the

  428. moon for the night and the light will

  429. drive into the sea and the Lord of hosts

  430. his name. So God is going to give us

  431. light

  432. um from heaven and and that is his

  433. precious son. Turn to uh Psalm 96.

  434. Psalm 96.

  435. Psalm 96 and verse one

  436. here we see I'm sorry verse 11 9611

  437. let the heavens rejoice

  438. let the earth be glad

  439. Let the sea roar in the fullness

  440. thereof.

  441. Let the field be joyful, and all that is

  442. there in. Then shall the trees of the

  443. forest rejoice before the Lord, for he

  444. cometh, for he cometh to judge the

  445. earth. He shall judge the world with

  446. righteousness, and his people with his

  447. truth. When when's God going to do this?

  448. Well, that's what he's doing. He's

  449. appeared to the nation of Israel. He's

  450. brought out a people uh of his own. He's

  451. blessed Abraham. And Abraham has come to

  452. God by faith. He's been justified by

  453. faith. So, you know, God is working this

  454. covenant out uh with them and for them

  455. and through his son. And then look, if

  456. you will in in Psalm 98,

  457. have a similar statement.

  458. Let the sea roar in verse 7.

  459. Let the sea roar and the fullness

  460. thereof, the world and they that that

  461. dwell therein, that's us,

  462. you know. Let the flood floods clap

  463. their hands. Let the hills rejoice

  464. together before the Lord. For he comes

  465. to judge the earth with righteousness,

  466. and he will judge the world and the

  467. people with his iniquity

  468. uh with his equality.

  469. And this is going to be the whole world,

  470. not just the Jews. So here they are

  471. reading this. Well, wait a minute. If

  472. God God must have

  473. program, God must have a plan if he's

  474. going to include the whole world. He's

  475. going to judge the whole world. And

  476. that's what Jesus does. He comes now, as

  477. we see in the New Testament, um he comes

  478. to do this very thing, not only to judge

  479. the world, but to save the world. Turn

  480. over to Proverbs 8.

  481. Proverbs 8

  482. and you know if you know your Old

  483. Testament you know that at some point

  484. you know wisdom becomes incarnate

  485. and and you know that's that's Jesus he

  486. is wisdom incarnate right and here in

  487. Proverbs chapter 8

    Proverbs 8:22

  488. verse 22 two, the Lord possessed me in

  489. the beginning of his ways before his

  490. works of old.

  491. So this is Jesus. This is the the

  492. theophies that we've been looking at in

  493. the Old Testament is none other than

  494. wisdom incarnate.

  495. And now we see there in verse 8, I'm

  496. sorry,

  497. uh verse 22.

  498. And now in verse 23, I will set up

  499. from everlasting,

  500. from the beginning, wherever the earth

  501. was.

  502. So God's had this plan all along. You

  503. know, Adam and Eve didn't catch God off

  504. guard. The devil didn't catch God off

  505. guard.

  506. So his everlasting plan has been from

  507. the beginning where there is no

  508. beginning.

  509. And he says in verse uh uh 24 here when

  510. there were no depths

  511. there was no ocean. There was no Adam

  512. and Eve. There was no Abraham.

  513. There was God

  514. and there was his son. There was the

  515. Holy Spirit.

  516. There were no fountains abounding in the

  517. water. Behold the mountains were set

  518. forth. Before the hills was I brought

  519. forth,

  520. while as yet I had made the earth, nor

  521. the fields, nor the highest part of the

  522. dust of the world.

  523. And when he prepared the heavens, I was

  524. there. This is the pre-incarnate son of

  525. God. This is Jesus. This is one who is

  526. appearing in the theophanes to Abraham

  527. and uh and and to Moses and guiding and

  528. directing the children of Israel. He's

  529. called a people to his own. I was there

  530. when he set a compass upon the face of

  531. the earth. In verse 27, when he

  532. established the clouds above, among us,

  533. he strengthened the fountains of the

  534. deep. when he gave to the sea its

  535. decrees and to the water should not pass

  536. from these commandments. He was

  537. appointed the foundations of the earth.

  538. Then I was by him as one that was

  539. brought up with him. I was daily his

  540. delight

  541. rejoicing before him. Sounds like his

  542. childhood. It sounds like his ministry

  543. on the earth. And you know, wisdom

  544. becomes

  545. the logos

  546. here in John. We're going to look at

  547. that in a second. But before that, turn

  548. to

  549. uh Hegi in in uh chapter one.

  550. Hei chapter 1,

  551. one of the minor prophets. And here in

  552. chapter one,

  553. you know, this thought of a message and

  554. a messenger. That's what an angel is.

  555. And that's what the pre-incarnate Christ

  556. did. You know, he wasn't an angel. He's

  557. God. But he appeared with a message

  558. to them and for them. And here we see

  559. in Hegi 1 and verse 13,

  560. then spoke Hegi,

  561. the Lord's messenger

  562. in the Lord's message unto the people,

  563. saying, I am with you, sayeth the Lord.

  564. So here he brings brings it out real

  565. good for us to see that that's that's

  566. what's going on. The pre-incarnate

  567. Christ

  568. is the wisdom of God. He's the messenger

  569. and he's the message as well. Michael

  570. Carter has a song. It's

  571. that thou art the promise and the keeper

  572. of thy promise,

  573. you know, and it's similar to what Hegi

  574. says here that, you know, God is the

  575. promise and God keeps his promise,

  576. you know, and and we worship him and we

  577. praise him for these amazing things. So

  578. the prophets were dispatched by God. You

  579. know, they had a message from God to the

  580. people. And the great prophet Jesus, the

  581. great apostle Jesus had a greater

  582. message for us and a greater uh he was a

  583. greater ambassador for us, wasn't he?

  584. Turn to Micah chapter 5.

    Micah 5 chapter mention

  585. Micah

    Micah 5 chapter mention

  586. chapter 5.

  587. Micah chapter 5.

    Micah 5 chapter mention

  588. And I'm sure you're familiar with this

  589. verse.

  590. Micah chapter 5.

    Micah 5 chapter mention

  591. And you know, he says what he's going to

  592. do for Israel and what he's going to do

  593. for the nations, what he's going to do

  594. for the world.

  595. And here he says, Bethlehem,

  596. Epapra,

  597. though thou be little among the

  598. thousands of Judah,

  599. all the places Jesus could have been

  600. born. And when we look at the

  601. prophecies,

  602. um, this is obviously a key one.

  603. Among the thousand of Judah, yet out of

  604. these shall he come forth. Who is this?

  605. This is the pre-incarnate Christ. This

  606. is the angel of the Lord. This is the

  607. the one who has appeared in these

  608. theophies

  609. in the Old Testament.

  610. And you know, here's this divine, you

  611. know, procession

  612. that Jesus talks about that the word of

  613. God talks about. God sent his son. God,

  614. you know, God sent God into the world

  615. and here he's doing it in Judah

  616. and here he's doing it in Bethlehem.

  617. We know that got fulfilled. What's it

  618. going to be? The ruler of Israel. Wait a

  619. minute. I thought he died on the cross.

  620. Well, yeah, he has more than one advent.

  621. He has more than one uh one thing to

  622. accomplish. He's he's got this taken

  623. care of first.

  624. He's going to be the ruler. And but

  625. notice what he says at the end. They

  626. have been from old.

  627. How old? From everlasting. And that word

  628. means that just

  629. everlasting in the sense that there's

  630. never been a beginning.

  631. It's just incredible, isn't it?

  632. So the prophets represent God by

  633. preaching God's message. And you know,

  634. often times it's it's really good news.

  635. And here when it comes to this, it's

  636. really good news. And what did the

  637. angels do in the New Testament when you

  638. know everyone shows up in the manger?

  639. We're going to look at the manger. We're

  640. going to look at the incarnation.

  641. What happened? The angels were like,

  642. "Wow, God has become a man

  643. and

  644. landed exactly where he said he was

  645. going to land and exactly when he was

  646. supposed to land.

  647. Only God can do these things." And it's

  648. from the days of eternity. That's what

  649. this everlasting means. That the son of

  650. God is he is he is just that. He's from

  651. everlasting. He's eternal. He's always

  652. been.

  653. So this is indeed good news.

  654. And we think about good news. Remember

  655. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abedneo. Don't

  656. turn to Daniel. You know, you remember

  657. those three guys. What happened? Uh the

  658. the outsiders looked in and said, "Wait

  659. a minute, there's four in there." And

  660. this was the pre-incarnate Christ. This

  661. was the one who brought Abraham out of

  662. uh his country. This is the one that

  663. brought uh Hagar and Sarah uh and sent

  664. them on their way. This is the one that

  665. appeared to Moses in the burning bush.

  666. Um this is the one who has appeared

  667. numerous times. the message of God and

  668. the messenger of God. Now turn over to

  669. John chapter one.

  670. The Old Testament says there's a message

  671. coming and a messenger.

  672. And here in John

  673. chapter one,

  674. now we see it's the son of God.

  675. And in verse one, in the beginning,

  676. what beginning? The beginning where

  677. there was no beginning. The be the

  678. beginning, this eternal beginning that

  679. Proverbs talked about. this eternal

  680. beginning that the prophets talked about

  681. that you know the wisdom of God and the

  682. man of God who Jesus is is going to come

  683. um to this earth

  684. and he will come as the word verse one

  685. and the word was with God and the word I

  686. don't like that word was is God

  687. yeah it present tense tense. It's not

  688. past tense. He is God.

  689. So the son of God is God.

  690. The one who the Old Testament told us

  691. about. And uh you know again this is

  692. this is part of who he is. This is not

  693. all of who he is.

  694. You know that the apostle said that

  695. didn't he in John chapter 6. you have

    John 6 chapter mention

  696. the words of light

  697. and he is the light of the world. This

  698. this logos

  699. and um he he preexisted from eternity

  700. past

  701. and um

  702. you know he is uh he had a childhood.

  703. That's amazing.

  704. God had a childhood and that was this

  705. one who gained in wisdom as the Bible

  706. says gained in his understanding of men

  707. and these things. So from eternity past

  708. come forth this little child. This is

  709. the mystery that Paul's talked about in

  710. Ephesians chapter

    Ephesians 4 chapter mention

  711. 4. The mystery of Christ. Well, here it

  712. is. This is the mystery of Christ that

  713. God preexisted and he brought Abraham

  714. out. He brought Moses out. He brought

  715. the nation of Israel out. He was there

  716. with Gideon.

  717. You know, he was there uh you know, when

  718. Samson chose his wife. And you know, God

  719. was protecting his people and bringing

  720. them a message and messenger. And now we

  721. see that this great message and this

  722. great messenger

  723. um had no beginning and he is indeed he

  724. is God. Look what it says in verse

  725. three.

  726. Most things some things no all things

  727. were made by him and without him was not

  728. anything made that was made. So this

  729. savior, this logos

  730. was was there in the beginning when

  731. there was no beginning. Before there

  732. were angels, before there was an earth,

  733. before there was anything.

  734. And in him was life.

  735. And the life was the light of men.

  736. Exactly what we need. Savior and a

  737. redeemer. And the light shines in the

  738. darkness and the darkness overcome it

  739. not. Must be God.

  740. That's what Paul says about the word of

  741. God. You don't have to defend it. Just

  742. turn it loose.

  743. And then guess what? He God had a

  744. forerunner who wasn't a God. He's just a

  745. man.

  746. And that's what that's what John the

  747. Baptist said. I'm just a man. Don't

  748. follow me. I'm pointing you to him. He

  749. is the savior. He's the redeemer. He's

  750. the He's the one who is going to go to

  751. Calvar's cross and to die.

  752. I turn over to John chapter 12.

    John 12 chapter mention

  753. John

  754. John chapter 12

    John 12 chapter mention

  755. and verse 41.

  756. Now here the Pharisees

  757. and the Israelites and the Jews, they

  758. really, you think they would have known,

  759. right?

  760. But you know, this God who made

  761. everything, this God who brought Abraham

  762. out, this God who brought Moses out,

  763. this God who brought this nation out,

  764. this God who has watched over this

  765. nation and blessed this nation and kept

  766. this nation, surely we would recognize

  767. him when he got here. They didn't.

  768. And here we see

  769. that was predicted too.

  770. Say, "Oh, too bad." No, it's not too

  771. bad. It's good. No, the good news is

  772. what he's about to say here.

  773. Nevertheless,

  774. among the chief rulers also, many

  775. believed on him. But because of the

  776. Pharisees, they did not confess him,

  777. lest they should be put out of the

  778. synagogue. It was pretty tough following

  779. Jesus in the back in the day when he was

  780. here

  781. just kind of like it is now.

  782. They love the praise of men more than

  783. the praise of God just like it is now.

  784. And Jesus cried out, "He that believeth

  785. on me,

  786. and who believeth not on me, but on him

  787. that sent me, there it is."

  788. Jesus said, "You guys should have known.

  789. Go back, you know, look at every book in

  790. the Old Testament. You guys should have

  791. known,

  792. but they didn't." He says, "But believe

  793. on him that sent me." This is the

  794. Father, "And he that seeth me sees him

  795. that sent me." Jesus says, "You, I'm the

  796. I'm the representation of the Father."

  797. So when you've seen me, you've seen the

  798. father. You know those verses, don't

  799. you? But here he goes back and he he

  800. tells us exactly what Isaiah said would

  801. happen happened.

  802. But it happened for us, a good a good

  803. thing for us because now we've been

  804. grafted in. Now this was no mistake. Now

  805. we know that God had this plan from

  806. eternity. We need a redeemer. We need a

  807. savior and God

  808. provided one. And then you know Jesus is

  809. talk he talks about a throne. How many

  810. how many verses could we turn to where

  811. he he speaks of a throne? Well that's

  812. where he went back right? That's what

  813. what happened in Acts chapter one.

  814. Where's Jesus? He's on his throne

  815. just like this book said. And he's going

  816. to come back.

  817. And that's what Hebrews turn to Hebrews

  818. 1.

  819. Yeah, we

  820. we shouldn't be ashamed of Jesus

  821. after all he's done, who he is and what

  822. he has said and promised.

  823. I mean, he's the victor.

  824. And here we see in Hebrews chapter 1

    Hebrews 1 chapter mention

  825. and in verse 8,

  826. you know, the Old Testament never calls

  827. um

  828. the son of God Christ. You know that

  829. English word means anointed

  830. and you know that's who he is. Now the

  831. New Testament does

  832. you know the son

  833. is what the Old Testament said that's

  834. Psalm 2

  835. you know you know the son of God and

  836. that's what the writer of Hebrews brings

  837. out here turn in Hebrews chapter 1 vers8

    Hebrews 1 chapter mention

  838. but unto his son he saith the throne oh

  839. God

  840. is forever and ever.

  841. So before anything was ever created, the

  842. son of God was there on the throne and

  843. the son of God has returned to the

  844. throne. And in between we have Genesis

  845. to Revelation.

  846. And we have God providing eternal life

  847. to us sinful people, not just the Jews,

  848. but the Gentiles as well forever and

  849. ever. That's like our That's like what

  850. uh Micah says about Bethlehem that he's

  851. come forth from everlasting

  852. to everlasting.

  853. And now Colossians chapter 1, you guys

    Colossians 1 chapter mention

  854. know this verse.

  855. Colossians,

  856. you know, this that's why it's so

  857. important for us to get this right.

  858. And

  859. You know, people who deny the deity of

  860. Jesus, they're not saved.

  861. And I don't know how you could not

  862. understand and see his preexistence, if

  863. you will, that he's eternal without, you

  864. know, ignoring the Bible.

  865. But here in Colossians chapter 1,

    Colossians 1 chapter mention

  866. you know, that that was the problem that

  867. people struggled with even after Jesus

  868. accomplished what he did was, well, is

  869. don't I isn't there something else to

  870. do? You know, don't I need to do this to

  871. be saved? It's all been done. That's why

  872. Jesus said, "It is finished." All of our

  873. sins have been paid for in full. Every

  874. one of them.

  875. And and you know it took the blood of

  876. God to take away our sin. It took the

  877. blood of God to pay for our sin. And God

  878. became a man man just for that purpose

  879. and to overcome the evil one. And here

  880. Colossians chapter 1

    Colossians 1 chapter mention

  881. and and

  882. verse 15.

  883. And that's what Paul says before. you

  884. know, well, I'm not going to back up and

  885. read all this. We'll run out of time.

  886. But that's what Paul says. It's over.

  887. It's done.

  888. You know, you you can't, you know,

  889. observing a day doesn't make you holy.

  890. Clothes can't make you holy. Uh, you

  891. know, doing anything can't make you

  892. holy. The only thing that can make us

  893. holy is faith in the son of God who shed

  894. his blood for our sins. That's verse 14.

  895. in whom we have redemption through his

  896. blood, the forgiveness of sin.

  897. And now Paul says in verse 15, who is

  898. the image of the invisible God, the

  899. firstborn of all creation. That doesn't

  900. mean he was he was created as a as a as

  901. a man at the incarnation. He was a baby.

  902. We're going to look at that. But before

  903. he ever become a baby, he was man or

  904. excuse me, he was God and he become a

  905. man.

  906. And that's what Paul says in first

  907. Corinthians about there is one God. God

  908. the Father, God the Son, and God the

  909. Holy Spirit,

  910. you know, and that's what John the

  911. Baptist did. He said, "Believe on him

  912. and follow him." And uh

  913. Jesus existed supernaturally before

  914. uh Bethlehem.

  915. Go to John chapter 6.

    John 6 chapter mention

  916. And you know, people say, "Well, Jesus

  917. never said he was God."

  918. Well, that's a lie.

  919. That Jesus in the Bible said he was God.

  920. And

  921. here in chapter 6

  922. in verse 33,

  923. you know, he not only,

  924. you know, he not only

  925. was an incredible teacher

  926. and an incredible example,

  927. there's none better. He's God after all.

  928. But here he says, you know, people get

  929. it wrong sometimes.

  930. And you know, if you don't believe in

  931. the deity of Jesus,

  932. you're not saved. I didn't say that.

  933. Jesus said that right here.

  934. And the Bible says you're going to die

  935. in your sins if you don't believe that

  936. Jesus is God.

  937. But to those who believe he is God,

  938. we have the forgiveness of sin. And he

  939. talks about laboring up there. And

  940. that's what he did.

  941. You know, he labored for God, you know,

  942. as the message in the messenger.

  943. And that's what he says in verse 29.

  944. This is the work of God that you believe

  945. on him whom he has sent. The father sent

  946. the son. And the father says, "And the

  947. son say,"Believe on me."

  948. Then remember they got got some of this

  949. wrong. Uh but he says down in verse 42,

  950. he says, "Moses gave you not the bread

  951. from heaven, but my father giveth you

  952. the true bread from heaven." So not only

  953. did Jesus say he was a bread of heaven,

  954. he said, "I'm not what Moses and the

  955. children had." That was just a a

  956. something that was pointing to me.

  957. For the bread of God is he who cometh

  958. down from heaven and who giveth life

  959. unto the world. So we need to eat Jesus

  960. in a sense to have this life

  961. because he's the bread of life and he

  962. come from heaven and he's has existed

  963. from eternity past. He's God in the

  964. flesh. All these incredible and amazing

  965. things.

  966. And then he says in verse 38, I come

  967. down from heaven, not to do my own will,

  968. but the will of him who sent me. So at

  969. some point in time in eternity past,

  970. there was a conversation between the

  971. father and the son. And the father says,

  972. "I'm going to send you." And the son

  973. said, "Okay, I'll go

  974. and and become the bread from heaven."

  975. And he says, "I don't do my own will,

  976. but the will of him that sent me."

  977. That's his father's will. You guys are

  978. familiar with these things. And then

  979. look in verse 41.

  980. And the Jews murmured at him because he

  981. said, "I am the bread that came down

  982. from heaven." What? You're God? You're

  983. not God. Jesus said, "Oh yeah, I'm God.

  984. Eat, eat of me and see." They wouldn't

  985. do it. That's the conflict here with the

  986. Pharisees. Verse 50,

  987. this is the bread that came down from

  988. heaven. He says it again.

  989. I existed before uh I existed.

  990. And uh such incredible verses. This is

  991. the bread that came down from heaven

  992. that a man may eat of it and not die.

  993. What?

  994. Yeah. That's who Jesus is. We're all

  995. going to die. We're born spiritually

  996. dead.

  997. And the only way you can get life is

  998. through the son of God who became a man

  999. and and was sacrificed for our sins.

1000. That's John 3:16. For God so loved the

    John 3:16

1001. world that he gave his only begotten son

1002. that whosoever believes in him will not

1003. perish but have everlasting life.

1004. Verse 51. I am the living bread that

1005. come down from heaven. If any man eat of

1006. this bread, he shall live forever.

1007. And the bread that uh I will give him as

1008. my flesh, and I will give my life for

1009. the world. And that's what Jesus did. He

1010. paid for our sins. He gave his body

1011. for our to a payment for our sins. We're

1012. going to look at the the incarnation.

1013. We're going to look at the atonement.

1014. We're going to look at all these great

1015. things that the son of God did when he

  1016. come to earth.

  1017. Now verse 62,

1018. Jesus said, "Not only did I come down

1019. from heaven, I'm going to go back." That

1020. was what was so hard for the apostles.

  1021. But

1022. we we don't want you to leave, Lord.

1023. And you guys know the story.

1024. But here he says in verse 62, what if

1025. you shall see the son of man ascending

1026. up where he was before and it is the

  1027. spirit that gives life.

1028. The flesh profits nothing. The words

1029. that I speak unto you, they are spirit

1030. and they are life. They go together.

1031. So when you believe the promise of God,

1032. you know, that's what happens. We are

1033. born from above. We're born again.

1034. uh by the spirit of God and by by the

1035. word of God. So, you know, if if Jesus

1036. were just like all the other prophets,

1037. then he'd still be in the grave like all

  1038. the other prophets.

  1039. But he's not.

1040. He's rose from the dead and someday

1041. coming back for us. And we're going to

1042. see what he does when he's here. his

  1043. divine nature. It's it's everywhere in

1044. the word of God. How can we miss it?

  1045. We're looking forward to that. Let's

1046. pray. Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit,

  1047. we thank you

1048. uh for the word of God, the light from

1049. heaven that shines on our dark world and

1050. shines in our dark life. And we thank

1051. you uh for the life and the light that

1052. is Jesus, the word of God.

1053. the logos, the message and the messenger

1054. that has life in himself. And if we come

1055. to him, we will never thirst. We thank

1056. you for these divine supernatural

  1057. provisions

1058. for us dead sinners on this earth.

1059. And we worship you and we praise you in

  1060. Jesus name.

1061. Lord, as we go from this place,

1062. loving you more, trusting you more.

1063. May the power of your love and the light

  1064. of your word shine

1065. to sin darken world as we go from this
