  1. God is.

  2. He's three persons yet one God.

  3. And

  4. open your Bibles if you would to the

  5. book of Galatians.

  6. We've looked at God the Father. We've

  7. looked at the Holy Spirit.

  8. Today we're going to look at

  9. at Christ

  10. and the promises in the Old Testament

  11. about him.

  12. So Galatians where we're going to start

  13. off this morning and

  14. be our

  15. verse we'll kind of launch into this

  16. with

  17. you know Jesus is the alpha and the

  18. omega. He's the beginning and the ending

  19. but he's also everything in between.

  20. So, wherever we pick up verses on him,

  21. he's eternal. We've looked at uh his

  22. eternity last week. And that's what the

  23. Bible says. He's he is forever and ever

  24. in both direction.

  25. And that's the way God is. He's eternal.

  26. And he's outside of time. And he's

  27. outside of matter and space and those

  28. those things that hinder us. He made

  29. them.

  30. So here in Galatians chapter 4 and

    Galatians 4 chapter mention

  31. verse4, this sort of sums up,

  32. you know, our thoughts in the New

  33. Testament and and as well trying to go

  34. back into the Old Testament today. We're

  35. not going to try to. We are.

  36. But uh this this was a important verse

  37. for me here. But it says that God sent

  38. forth God his son there in verse four

  39. when the fullness of time was come. So

  40. God decided

  41. uh when this would happen

  42. and he pulled this off and accomplished

  43. these great things with his son. It says

  44. God sent forth his son made of a woman.

  45. That's important. Made under the law.

  46. That's important. To redeem them that

  47. were under the law that we might receive

  48. the adoption

  49. of sons. So there's a lot here in these

  50. two verses that sort of get us going

  51. that God, you know, God sent forth God

  52. and to a woman that was Mary to humanity

  53. to the Jewish nation. He came unto his

  54. own and his own received him not, but as

  55. well to the whole human race he came. So

  56. it's through this woman that these

  57. things happened and made under the law

  58. the Jewish law. So God's timing was

  59. perfect when this happened. And this

  60. became uh what the book of Luke tells

  61. us. Turn to Luke chapter 2.

    Luke 2 chapter mention

  62. Luke chapter 2. Luke tells us this is

    Luke 2 chapter mention

  63. this is the good news.

  64. So, you know, when did the good news

  65. begin? Well, the good news began way

  66. back in the Old Testament. We're going

  67. to see that. But here in chapter 2 and

  68. verse 10,

  69. uh here's our Christmas story. In the in

  70. the incarnation, the angel of the Lord

  71. said to them, "Fear not. Behold,

  72. I bring you good tidings of great joy

  73. shall be to all people." So he sums it

  74. up for us here. You know, when God sent

  75. forth God

  76. uh to Mary to the Jewish nation, this

  77. was good news. This was great news. This

  78. is wonderful news. This is the news that

  79. yeah should should cause us to fear not

  80. because

  81. God has become a man. So he goes on down

  82. through here and he as we read this, he

  83. says, "This will be a sign unto you.

  84. you'll find the babe wrapped in

  85. swaddling clothes lying in a manger. So

  86. those were the signs pointing to Jesus

  87. so they wouldn't miss him.

  88. And uh he says in verse 13,

  89. suddenly there was with the angels a

  90. multitude of heavenly hosts praising God

  91. and saying glory to God in the highest.

  92. So this is the glory of God when the son

  93. of God is born. This is the good news

  94. that, you know, God sent forth God into

  95. the world. And uh we're going to look at

  96. the incarnation here in a here in in the

  97. future. But today, we're going to tie

  98. these things to the uh to the Old

  99. Testament. But remember what he said

  100. there in verse 11. This is the glory of

  101. God. These are signs. Uh this is Christ

  102. the Lord. Uh he says there

  103. in verse 11.

  104. Well, we we're familiar with that verse

  105. in Genesis chapter 3 and verse1 15. You

    Genesis 3 chapter mention

  106. know, that's the very first promise of

  107. the the Lord Jesus Christ is there in

  108. Genesis chapter 3 and verse 15. And God

    Genesis 3 chapter mention

  109. said there was going to be enmity

  110. between the seed, the woman's seed and

  111. and and his seed. And certainly, you

  112. know, Satan hates hates Christ. The

  113. world hates Christ. That's still there.

  114. That's not going away. we uh you know we

  115. accept that and you know it's good for

  116. us that you know that that the world

  117. hates Christ and hates uh that's the

  118. that's the opposition that comes that's

  119. good for us but uh you know here here

  120. was Mary's seed alone turn over to

  121. Matthew chapter 1

    Matthew 1 chapter mention

  122. discovered this about this word in

  123. Matthew chapter 1 verse 16

    Matthew 1:16

  124. he says here and Jacob

  125. begott Joseph and these were the

  126. genealogies of Jesus the genealogy of

  127. Mary and uh the husband of Mary of whom

  128. was born Jesus and this that word there

  129. means that it's of Mary alone and it's

  130. the the Hebrew word hes it's a feminine

  131. pronoun

  132. there is no male participation here

  133. from Joseph and we're going to look at

  134. the incarnation, but just a taste of it

  135. here. So, here comes the good news that

  136. God had promised way back there in

  137. Genesis and and as Paul said to the

  138. Galatians through Mary uh uh to

  139. Jerusalem

  140. uh or excuse me to Bethlehem and to this

  141. great nation Israel.

  142. And you know this is the first time that

  143. he is called Christ.

  144. You know that's a that's a New Testament

  145. thing.

  146. And uh you know we have the the Hebrew

  147. and the Greek both and in the English

  148. it's the anointed one for us.

  149. But you know this is the first time that

  150. he is he is called Jesus Christ. And

  151. he's called a lot of things a lot of

  152. good names. Um you know he's Emmanuel.

  153. He's God with us. all these here he

  154. is Christ for the first time he's the

  155. anointed one he's the Messiah

  156. and his his human name is Jesus of

  157. Nazareth and he is by the way he's the

  158. prophet

  159. the priest and the king all

  160. three put together so uh you know

  161. typically the

  162. they were anointed with oil in the old

  163. testament remember and Jesus is going to

  164. be anointed with the Holy Spirit. Um

  165. look if you will in chapter 3, Matthew

    Matthew 3 chapter mention

  166. chapter 3

  167. and in verse 16 and 17 and Jesus when he

  168. was baptized went straight way out of

  169. the water and lo, the heavens were

  170. opened and unto him he saw a spirit of

  171. God descending like a dove and landing

  172. on him. And lo, a voice from heaven

  173. said, "This is my beloved son whom I am

  174. well pleased." So, it starts right out

  175. of the gate. And he, you know, he has

  176. the Holy Spirit. He's not anointed with

  177. oil like the Old Testament s uh kings

  178. were and and priests were and prophets

  179. were. Um he's anointed with the Holy

  180. Spirit. And then we see from God the

  181. Father and the Holy Spirit, the whole

  182. Trinity in this, you know, two verses

  183. here pointing to Jesus who is the good

  184. news, the one that Mary is bringing

  185. forth

  186. um to the great nation of Israel. Now

  187. turn back to Genesis chapter 3

    Genesis 3 chapter mention

  188. to this verse where this promise began

  189. in chapter 3 and verse 15.

  190. And you know when when God's you know

  191. God's God promises and commandments when

  192. God speaks we need to listen and hear

  193. what he says. And here here here it is.

  194. God is making a a promise here

  195. um for the human race and for Adam and

  196. Eve and for for Mary and for Israel and

  197. for for all these great things that

  198. we're seeing in the New Testament. And

  199. then in chapter 3:15,

  200. God says, "I will put enmity between

  201. thee and the woman, between thy seed and

  202. her seed. He shall bruise thy head, and

  203. thou shalt bruise his heel." And that

  204. immnity is still there. The devil is the

  205. enemy of God.

  206. Um, he's the enemy of the human race.

  207. He's the enemy of the church.

  208. So, we should uh listen to what God says

  209. here and and take God up on the promise

  210. that God is going to send a deliverer.

  211. And that's what he says here in verse

  212. 16. Unto the woman, I will greatly

  213. multiply thy sorrow

  214. in thy conception. And then uh bringing

  215. forth children, your desire will be on

  216. your husband, and he will rule over

  217. these. So, here's the promise of that

  218. good news that we saw up there with Mary

  219. in the New Testament. Turn to Genesis

    Genesis 9 chapter mention

  220. chapter 9.

  221. This continues with the promise that God

  222. made back there in Genesis 3 and:e 16.

  223. It it goes on now all the way into the

  224. into the New Testament. And we're going

  225. to pick up on some of these this morning

  226. and look at them. In Genesis chapter

  227. nine,

  228. you all remember Noah,

  229. you know, so and you know, God's

  230. promises existed before,

  231. we can see here before the nation of

  232. Israel. We see God's promise existed,

  233. you know, way back in the Garden of Eden

  234. that we just looked at back there. So,

  235. God promised the blessing

  236. uh to Adam and Eve that he was something

  237. that he was going to do. God said, "I

  238. will do this."

  239. And now here in Genesis chapter 9,

    Genesis 9 chapter mention

  240. then verse 26,

  241. and he said, "Blessed be the Lord God of

  242. Shem, and Canaan shall be his servant."

  243. So here the promise of the Messiah, the

  244. promise of the savior, the promise of

  245. the redeemer now is coming through uh

  246. God's promiser to to Shem of uh Noah's

  247. son.

  248. And uh

  249. the Lord is going to do this. And that's

  250. what he says. Blessed be the Lord God of

  251. Shem. The Lord God's going to do this.

  252. He's going to send forth a plan of

  253. redemption. and he's going to send

  254. forth, you know, revelation through

  255. uh Shem's

  256. um seed and Shem's family. This is

  257. before the promise to Abraham. So, it

  258. goes all the way back to Cain and Abel,

  259. goes all the way back to to Adam and Eve

  260. and in Genesis chapter 3 that we saw

    Genesis 3 chapter mention

  261. just moments ago. Now, turn over to

  262. chapter 12.

  263. Now, here's where

  264. God's promises to Abraham,

  265. we know this.

  266. Um, and here he says, "I will make of

  267. thee a great nation.

  268. Before it was the human race now, and

  269. now it's a nation.

  270. And I will bless thee, and I will make

  271. thy name great, and thou will be a

  272. blessing." And so this is this is God

  273. promising prosperity

  274. upon Abraham here. And God said, "I'm

  275. going to favor you

  276. for these reasons that all the earth,

  277. all the families of the earth uh may be

  278. blessed so the prosperity of Abraham we

  279. see here and the promise from God." and

  280. and what that's what Matthew says in

  281. Matthew the very first verse in the New

  282. Testament it says the genealogy of Jesus

  283. the son of David and the son of Abraham.

  284. So this Christ that was born to Mary was

  285. of the seed of Abraham and he was of the

  286. seed of uh David.

  287. That was very distinct for the Jews. you

  288. know, you know, he's there's a king

  289. coming, right? So, we have those verses

  290. and then and and don't turn there, but

  291. in Genesis, I'm sorry, Galatians chapter

    Galatians 3 chapter mention

  292. 3

  293. and verse 16 there, Paul says, "Now to

  294. Abraham and his seeds were the promises

  295. made."

  296. And this is what he's talking about. And

  297. uh he has not said to his seed that are

  298. many but to thy seed that is one

  299. which is Christ.

  300. So God narrowed it down to a one. And

  301. the one is Christ. Not not all the Jews

  302. uh not just any Jew, but it's Christ

  303. uh that he spoke of there. Now turn to

  304. Genesis chapter 17.

    Genesis 17 chapter mention

  305. Genesis chapter 17

    Genesis 17 chapter mention

  306. and in verse 19.

  307. So this is what we have through the book

  308. of Genesis in the Old Testament. We have

  309. God saying, "Here's what I'm going to

  310. do. Here's how I'm going to do it." And

  311. he promised to Abraham and he promised

  312. to Noah and he promised to Shem and he

  313. promised to Adam and Eve. you know,

  314. these promises of God are coming forth

  315. um from God. And we see here that uh in

  316. verse 19, and God said to Sarah, "Thy

  317. wife shall bear thee a son indeed.

  318. You'll call his name Isaac, and I will

  319. establish my covenant with him for an

  320. everlasting covenant, and with the seed

  321. after him."

  322. So God's very distinct here

  323. on what he wants to do. He's not

  324. interested in a uh Abraham's plan. He's

  325. interested in his plan. And God says,

  326. "I'm going to do this. I'm going to

  327. establish my covenant through Isaac."

  328. So we see uh that coming forth here in

  329. Genesis.

  330. Now turn to chapter 25.

  331. Genesis

  332. 25

  333. and in verse 23.

  334. Genesis 25:23.

    Genesis 25:23

  335. And the Lord said to her, "Two nations

  336. are in your womb, and two manner of

  337. people shall be born to thee. one people

  338. shall be stronger than the other people

  339. and the elder shall serve the younger.

  340. So here we see the the lineage of the

  341. Messiah coming, the promise of the

  342. Messiah coming through uh Jacob here uh

  343. in Genesis.

  344. Turn to chapter 28.

  345. Genesis 28

  346. and verse 13.

  347. You know, that's that's how the nation

  348. of Israel knew, you know, God was their

  349. God. He I'm going to I'm going to do

  350. this. I'm going to fulfill these

  351. promises.

  352. And and God just keeps bringing it forth

  353. and and uh and narrowing it down as to

  354. what is going to be. And here in chapter

  355. 28 verse 13,

  356. and behold the Lord stood above it and

  357. said, I am the Lord God of Abraham your

  358. father, the God of Isaac, and the land

  359. whereupon you lie uh you livest liest

  360. to thee will I give it and to thy seed.

  361. So here we have God giving these

  362. promises again uh to to to Jacob. So,

  363. we've seen, you know, from from Adam and

  364. Eve to Noah

  365. to Abraham,

  366. um, to Isaac to Jacob.

  367. And now we see God promising

  368. into the line of Judah. So, turn to

  369. Genesis chapter 49.

    Genesis 49 chapter mention

  370. Chapter 49.

  371. We even have the tribe

  372. in Genesis 49 and verse 10

  373. says, "The scepter shall not depart from

  374. Judah, nor the lawgiver from between his

  375. feet until Shiloh shall come and unto

  376. him shall be the gathering of the

  377. people." So the king in the kingdom is

  378. going to come uh from the tribe

  379. of Judah

  380. as God promises here to his people.

  381. So you know who would have figured that?

  382. You know somebody might have thought

  383. through the Levites or through you know

  384. another tribe. But God says, "No, I'm

  385. going to bring him I'm going to bring

  386. him through the tribe

  387. of Judah."

  388. Turn over to Psalm 72.

  389. Um,

  390. and so many of the Psalms were written

  391. because, you know, these men looked and

  392. women looked and said, you know, God's

  393. keeping his promise.

  394. And here in Psalm 72

  395. and you know the the the promise is

  396. going to be you know the promise of

  397. peace.

  398. You know that's who this ruler is going

  399. to be. He's going to be he's going to be

  400. a man of peace.

  401. uh he's going to have a kingdom of

  402. peace.

  403. Uh and here in Psalm 72

  404. and in verse 7, in the days in his days

  405. shall the righteous flourish and

  406. abundance of peace as long as the moon

  407. endures. So that's what's going to

  408. happen when the Messiah comes. He's

  409. going to establish his kingdom and his

  410. kingdom is going to be a kingdom of

  411. peace. Turn over to Psalm 14 122.

  412. Psalm

  413. 122

  414. and verse 7.

  415. Some of the the psalms are totally about

  416. the Messiah's reign

  417. and and his kingdom. And here we have

  418. Psalm 122:7 says, "Peace be within thy w

    Psalms 122:7

  419. walls and prosperity within thy

  420. palaces." So remember what God told

  421. Abraham. You will prosper.

  422. You know, your your nation will prosper.

  423. You uh you're going to be a blessing to

  424. every nation on the earth um through

  425. these and through this. And now we see

  426. he's going to come through Judah. He's

  427. going to uh be a peacemaker. He's going

  428. to have a kingdom of peace. You know, we

  429. have these things here. And Zachchariah

  430. says that we're going to says that about

  431. the Messiah. He's going to have a a

  432. kingdom of peace.

  433. So, the Old Testament is establishing

  434. that as well with these verses.

  435. Now, turn to 2 Samuel.

  436. Here we pick up

  437. in 2 Samuel chapter 7.

    2 Samuel 7 chapter mention

  438. The Messiah is going to come through

  439. David.

  440. you know, so you know, that's why he

  441. wasn't

  442. high priest on the earth and come of the

  443. tribe of Aaron. He's our high priest

  444. now, isn't he? After his work was

  445. accomplished. But here we pick up um

  446. the the king part of the prophecy.

  447. Chapter 7 and verse 12, he says, "And

  448. when that thy days be fulfilled, and

  449. thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I

  450. will set up thy seed after thee, which

  451. shall proceed from out of thy own body,

  452. and I will establish his kingdom." So

  453. here we see the Messiah is going to be a

  454. king. Uh he's going to come in the line

  455. of David. He's going to come in the

  456. tribe of Judah. You know, God is giving

  457. us a lot of things about the Messiah and

  458. and Psalm 89 is about his whole reign.

  459. Turn over there. Psalm 89.

  460. That's what this whole psalm is about.

  461. A very long psalm

  462. written by David. And you know, there

  463. are things that David said that, you

  464. know, were true about him, but are going

  465. to be even truer about the Messiah and

  466. his king and kingship and kingdom.

  467. And you know, God is going to set on a

  468. throne

  469. and he's going to rule and reign.

  470. And that's what Psalm 89 is all about

  471. here. I will sing of the mercies of the

  472. Lord forever.

  473. and with my mouth will I make known thy

  474. faithfulness to all generations. And

  475. this this whole psalm is about, you

  476. know, this this kingdom reign of Jesus

  477. and the fact that God carried these

  478. things out and I have mercy. He says in

  479. verse two, "It shall be built up uh

  480. forever. Your faithfulness shall you

  481. establish in the very heavens.

  482. I have made a covenant with my chosen.

  483. and I have sworn unto my David my

  484. servant. So, you know, God is telling

  485. the nation of Israel that's I'm going to

  486. keep my promises. You know, as difficult

  487. as it may be and as unbelievable as it

  488. may be, God is going to do uh these

  489. great things um through this nation,

  490. he's going to bring forth uh his son.

  491. And

  492. uh verse 20 over there he says I have

  493. found David my servant with my holy oil

  494. and I have anointed him. So in a greater

  495. way God anointed his son as he left

  496. heaven uh to come down here and to uh to

  497. accomplish

  498. these great things.

  499. And then Paul says in Romans chapter 3

    Romans 3 chapter mention

  500. remember that verse don't turn there.

  501. Chapter 1 verse three there Paul talks

  502. about the throne. He talks about Jesus

  503. Christ being now glorified and he's on a

  504. throne. Uh he's seated at the right hand

  505. of the father. So these great things

  506. have been accomplished by God. Um turn

  507. back to Isaiah

    Isaiah 7 chapter mention

  508. chapter 7.

  509. We're going to pick up some more details

  510. about the Messiah.

  511. We have verses about his birth.

  512. And uh here in Isaiah chapter 7, you

    Isaiah 7 chapter mention

  513. guys are familiar with these.

  514. In verse 14, remember Mary.

  515. Therefore the Lord himself shall give

  516. you a sign and behold a virgin shall

  517. conceive,

  518. bear a son, and you will call his name

  519. Emanuel, which is being interpreted God

  520. with us. So, you know, here we have in

  521. Isaiah years before

  522. uh it happened the promise of this great

  523. Messiah that God is going to send. And

  524. turn over to chapter nine. You're

  525. familiar with these as well.

  526. Uh Isaiah 9:6, he says, "Unto us child

    Isaiah 9:6

  527. is born, a son is given." So God is

  528. doing this through his uh uh you know

  529. through his work and through his effort.

  530. He's bringing these things forth and the

  531. government will be upon his shoulder.

  532. His name will be wonderful counselor,

  533. the mighty God, the everlasting father,

  534. the prince of peace. There's that peace

  535. part and uh Jesus is the prince of peace

  536. and the increase of his government of

  537. peace. There will be no end. And there's

  538. David again,

  539. his throne and his kingdom to order it

  540. and establish it with justice and

  541. righteousness from henceforth forever

  542. more the zeal of the Lord will perform

  543. this. Can you imagine being in a kingdom

  544. with a God like this?

  545. What he's going to do and uh how it's

  546. going to be,

  547. you know, and and you know, it's here.

  548. It's here for Israel. It's here for us

  549. um to see these great things. So Isaiah

  550. even tells us how he's going to come

  551. forth, how he's going to be born.

  552. Micah gives us the place. Turn over to

  553. Micah

    Micah 5 chapter mention

  554. chapter 5.

  555. Micah chapter 5.

    Micah 5 chapter mention

  556. We looked at this verse last week, but

  557. we can't ignore it this week. We even

  558. have the place

  559. that he's going to be born.

  560. And you know, our ways aren't God's

  561. ways. You know, I I was running things

  562. and it would be a mess if I was, but I

  563. don't think I would send my son to

  564. Bethlehem,

  565. you know, to to this little town, the

  566. little place, this to this little woman.

  567. And that's what verse two says. Oh

  568. Bethlehem,

  569. Epapra,

  570. though you be the the littlest among the

  571. thousands of Judah. It was unheard of.

  572. Bethlehem barely had a name.

  573. Yet out of thee shall come forth unto me

  574. that is to be ruler.

  575. Remember that scepter that was spoken of

  576. back there with Jacob,

  577. whose going forth have been from old,

  578. from everlasting. And remember that word

  579. everlasting. It just goes in both

  580. directions. He's eternal. this one who

  581. was going to be born um in Bethlehem.

  582. And then we have the commentary in in

  583. Matthew that about this very thing. This

  584. boom, Matthew just says, "Yep, he was

  585. born just like Micah said." And we have

  586. that commentary and that that's what

  587. upset Herod.

  588. Herod got pretty upset because he

  589. thought somebody was coming

  590. to take his place.

  591. Well, guess what? God even gave the

  592. Messiah a forerunner.

  593. Uh remember in Malachi, turn over there,

  594. chapter 3, you're close by.

  595. Malachi

  596. in chapter 3,

  597. we here's the prophecy about John the

  598. Baptist. And behold, I will send my

  599. messenger

  600. and he will prepare the way before

  601. me. God speaking.

  602. Who's the me that? Well, that's Jesus.

  603. He's the Lord.

  604. And shall suddenly come to his temple,

  605. even the messengers of the covenant whom

  606. he will delight. And behold, he shall

  607. come, saeth the Lord of hosts. So God

  608. um not only sent the Messiah, not only

  609. told us how he was going to be born,

  610. where he was going to be born, but God

  611. sent a forerunner to point everyone to

  612. him and say, "Behold the lamb of God

  613. that taketh away the sin of the world."

  614. Guess what? The Bible in the Old

  615. Testament even tells us about his

  616. ministry.

  617. Turn to Isaiah 61.

  618. What kind of ministry is he going to

  619. have? What's he going to do?

  620. Everybody gets hung up on the miracles.

  621. And indeed, we we needed those to prove

  622. that

  623. he was and is the son of God.

  624. That was a part of his ministry. But

  625. that wasn't all that he did.

  626. He had a mission. He had a ministry. He

  627. had a message.

  628. And Isaiah tells us in verse one of

  629. chapter 61, the spirit of the Lord God

  630. is upon me because the Lord has anointed

  631. me

  632. to preach the good tidings. Remember

  633. what

  634. what it said what the angels told Mary

  635. and those were when Jesus was born. This

  636. this is the good news.

  637. Well, here it is in in Isaiah 61. And

  638. the good news is coming to the

  639. brokenhearted, to the b to those who are

  640. bound, to those who are enslaved.

  641. And we're going to pro proclaim liberty

  642. to the captives and open the prisons to

  643. those who are bound to proclaim the

  644. acceptable day of the Lord and the

  645. vengeance of the Lord to comfort all

  646. that mourn.

  647. So this is what kind of ministry

  648. he is going to have.

  649. And now turn back to chapter nine of

  650. Isaiah.

  651. You get more details about his ministry

  652. here in in in uh Isaiah chapter 9.

    Isaiah 9 chapter mention

  653. So we wouldn't have picked Bethlehem. We

  654. wouldn't have picked Judah. we wouldn't

  655. have picked, you know, all these things

  656. that God picked

  657. and and we would not have

  658. we would have not have sent God to

  659. the poor. We would have sent him to the

  660. rich and famous.

  661. The devil tried to make him rich and

  662. famous. He turned it down.

  663. He already had all the fame he needed.

  664. and he turned it all down for us to

  665. reach out to the those who are

  666. the poor and the afflicted like we saw

  667. in 61. But here in Isaiah 9, it says,

  668. "Nevertheless, the dimness shall not be

  669. such as it was in her vexation when the

  670. first he lightly afflicted the land of

  671. Zebulun, the sand of Napali, and

  672. afterwards he did more grievously

  673. afflict her by the ways of the sea and

  674. beyond the Jordan to the Galilee of to

  675. the nations." And so here it is

  676. specifically saying he's going to go to

  677. Galilee

  678. and the people are going to walk in

  679. darkness have seen a great light and

  680. they that dwell in the land of the

  681. shadow of death and this light will

  682. shine upon them. So here is not only his

  683. ministry but who it's going to be to

  684. what it's going to be about. And verse

  685. three adds some more comments as well

  686. all the way down verse five. So he came

  687. to the poor, he came to the rejected, he

  688. came to those who were diseased and

  689. those those who had no friends, those

  690. who uh you know were were all the down

  691. anders.

  692. And guess what? We even have his

  693. ministry of being three and a half years

  694. long. Turn to Isaiah 53.

  695. Isaiah 53. You ever wonder why his

  696. ministry was only three and a half years

  697. long? Well, because the Bible says

  698. that's how long it's going to be.

  699. And here in 53 and verse4,

  700. uh, surely he has borne our grief. He's

  701. carried our sorrows. We did esteem him

  702. stricken,

  703. smitten of men. So, you know, he didn't

  704. isolate himself from these people.

  705. uh he was there uh and and that's how he

  706. bore a grief. That's how he carried away

  707. our sorrows. Only this man, this Messiah

  708. could do this.

  709. And you know, he just he he just made

  710. his abode with them.

  711. He didn't uh try to get away from them.

  712. He didn't quarantine himself. He didn't,

  713. you know, go live on an island

  714. somewhere.

  715. He come to his own

  716. and his own received him not. That's us.

  717. We need a savior. We need a redeemer.

  718. And he he invited everyone to himself.

  719. Matthew 11. Come unto me all ye that

  720. labor and are heavy laden and I will

  721. give you rest. This great one who has

  722. borne our grief. this great one who has

  723. carried away our sorrows.

  724. He was wounded for our transgression.

  725. He was bruised for our iniquities.

  726. The chastisement for our peace was upon

  727. him.

  728. With his stripes, we were healed.

  729. How well did we do? Well, we're like

  730. sheep gone astray. Verse six, we have

  731. turned everyone to his own way.

  732. And the Lord laid on him the iniquity of

  733. us all. Here we even see the rejection

  734. of his own. You know was enough for his

  735. his old familiar friend Judas to betray

  736. him.

  737. But the others turned and as well and

  738. denied him including Peter.

  739. So what was John the Baptist question?

  740. Is this really him?

  741. And Jesus said, "Yeah, it's really me.

  742. I'm fulfilling scripture,

  743. verse after verse after verse."

  744. So, um, you know, Jesus, you know, he

  745. was kind. Turn to Matthew chapter 12.

    Matthew 12 chapter mention

  746. Just like Isaiah says,

  747. Matthew chapter 12.

    Matthew 12 chapter mention

  748. What's the song?

  749. No one ever treated me like Jesus.

  750. And here in Matthew 12,

    Matthew 12:19

  751. verse 19,

  752. uh, he shall not strive nor cry, nor

  753. shall any man hear his voice in the

  754. streets. A bruised reed shall he not

  755. break, a smoking flack shall he not

  756. quench till he has sent forth justice to

  757. victory. And in the in his name shall

  758. the Gentiles trust.

  759. So he,

  760. you know, he he lived what he preached

  761. and and he loved them. Uh everyone, not

  762. just some. He loved everyone. He was

  763. calm. He was kind. He was compassionate.

  764. He was loving. You know, unlike the

  765. Pharisees, you know, they were

  766. they were quite a crew, huh? Along with

  767. the the Sadducees, the Jews, those who

  768. crucified Jesus, you know, he was nice

  769. to them, but they weren't nice to him,

  770. you know. And and in those things, he

  771. bore our grief.

  772. and his public ministry and his private

  773. ministry, his teaching and his

  774. preaching. Turn to Psalm 78.

  775. The Old Testament echoes over and over

  776. and over what he's going to do.

  777. And here in Psalm 78

  778. in verse one, give ear, oh my people, to

  779. my law. Incline your ears to my mouth. I

  780. will open my mouth in parables

  781. and I will utter dark sayings of old.

  782. Remember that's what they said. Why are

  783. you speaking in parables?

  784. But he said, well, for some of you it's

  785. to know God and for those who don't know

  786. God, they're not going to, you know,

  787. they're not going to get past God and

  788. and the understanding of God.

  789. So that's what the parables

  790. were about. They were for his his

  791. disciples. They were for his real, you

  792. know, uh real disciples, not the uh

  793. imposttors.

  794. And uh turn to Zechariah chapter 9.

    Zechariah 9 chapter mention

  795. Zechariah.

  796. I think I'm going to set a record for

  797. verses in this message,

  798. but it's here.

  799. Zechariah

    Zechariah 9 chapter mention

  800. chapter 9

  801. and verse 9.

  802. >> Bruno, will you read that for me?

  803. Zechariah 9 verse 9

    Zechariah 9:9

  804. is coming to you is just having

  805. salvation.

  806. So we even have that part of his

  807. ministry here

  808. in the Old Testament. and he's

  809. delivering us through this. You know,

  810. this is what's going on. This isn't a a

  811. parade. This isn't a a pageantry.

  812. This is the open public ministry of

  813. Jesus.

  814. And he's going to pay for our sins. Uh

  815. that's what he's he's going to do.

  816. That's why we see these things.

  817. Now, turn to Psalm 18. Now, we have his

  818. rejection.

  819. The Old Testament tells us he will be

  820. rejected.

  821. And uh go to Psalm 118.

  822. We got a few on this, but we'll just

  823. stick to one. Here's his rejection in

  824. Psalm 118:22.

    Psalms 118:22

  825. He is the stone

  826. and the Jews are the builders. They

  827. refuse to become the head of the uh of

  828. the corner. So God sent forth God and

  829. the nation of Israel and the Roman uh we

  830. helped them through the Roman

  831. government. They have crucified

  832. our Messiah, rejected

  833. our Messiah but some that's okay.

  834. Read verse 23. This is the Lord's doing

  835. that is marvelous in our eyes. God is

  836. simultaneously

  837. providing a salvation for us.

  838. I I'm sorry. Isaiah 29

    Isaiah 29:13

  839. verse 13.

  840. Isaiah

  841. 29

  842. and verse 13.

  843. Wherefore the Lord said, "For as much as

  844. this people, they draw near to me with

  845. their mouth, with their lips, they do

  846. honor me,

  847. but they have removed their heart from

  848. me, and their fear is toward me as

  849. taught by the precept of men." So, the

  850. Bible even tells us that they're going

  851. to outwardly everybody's going to say,

  852. "Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah." But

  853. inwardly,

  854. uh, he's rejected.

  855. Um, just like

  856. the uh New Testament tells us,

  857. we even have Zechariah. Don't turn

  858. there. Yeah, let's do Zechariah 13,

  859. Zechariah 13, because we've got two in

  860. this in this book.

  861. What happened when they in the garden of

  862. Gethsemane when they captured Jesus?

  863. Well, if you don't know, the sheep

  864. scattered.

  865. you know, his sheep were Peter and John

  866. and Paul or excuse me, Paul wasn't a

  867. part of it yet, but all his disciples,

  868. the the the the 12 men there

  869. that he chose

  870. scattered

  871. and he went to the cross alone.

  872. And Zechariah tells us this is going to

  873. happen. Zechariah chapter 13

    Zechariah 13 chapter mention

  874. and verse 7

  875. he says here a wake sword against my

  876. shepherd and against the man who is my

  877. fellow sayaeth the Lord of hosts.

  878. So of all the things that the Messiah

  879. has been called here he's called

  880. shepherd

  881. and that's what he has become.

  882. That's what he is.

  883. What what did he do for the sheep? He

  884. died for the sheep. And after he rose

  885. again, he went looking for the sheep.

  886. He reassembled the sheep. He got the

  887. sheep back together.

  888. And that makes him the great shepherd.

  889. And the shepherd was smitten here. And

  890. the sheep were scattered. And I will

  891. turn my hand upon the little ones. Here

  892. in Zechariah

    Zechariah 13:7

  893. 13:7.

  894. Well, guess what? We even have the uh 30

  895. pieces of silver.

  896. Zechariah 11.

  897. Zechariah 11

  898. and verse 12.

  899. And I said unto them, if you think good,

  900. give me my price, and if not, for bear.

  901. For they weighed for my price 30 pieces

  902. of silver.

  903. Judah sold Judas sold Jesus for 30

  904. pieces of silver to the high priest.

  905. And the Lord said,

  906. "Cast it unto the potter and a lordy

  907. piece that I will prize of them." He

  908. took the 30 pieces of silver and he cast

  909. them to the potter's house of the Lord.

  910. So, we even have the 30 pieces of silver

  911. that the Messiah is going to be betrayed

  912. for.

  913. And now we have his painful death.

  914. Turn if you would to Psalm 22.

  915. Psalm 22.

  916. In verse one,

  917. John 22 verse one. My God, my God, why

  918. have you forsaken me? Here's his painful

  919. death.

  920. You know, so far from helping me and

  921. from the words of my my roaring, my God,

  922. um I cry at you in the daytime, you

  923. don't hear me. the night season

  924. am I not silent,

  925. but you are holy, you that inhabits the

  926. praise of of Israel.

  927. Here we see the painful death that the

  928. Messiah is going to to die. It's it's

  929. here in this psalm.

  930. Um who wrote this? David. David wrote

  931. this before crucifixion

  932. was invented.

  933. And you can see clearly

  934. in verse 7, if you will.

  935. Oh, they who see me will laugh me to

  936. scorn. They shoot out the lip. They

  937. shake their head. This will literally

  938. happen.

  939. It literally happened.

  940. But verse eight,

  941. he trusted in the Lord. He would deliver

  942. him. Let him deliver him, seeing that he

  943. delights in him. He even tells us what

  944. they're going to say.

  945. And then this is what Jesus is crying

  946. from the cross. Look at verse one. My

  947. God and my God. We just read it. He's

  948. crying this from the cross. And uh if we

  949. could turn over to John 20 25, we'd find

  950. these exact things.

  951. Um no broken bones. Look at verse 17. I

  952. may count all of my bones. They look and

  953. they stare upon me. Not one of Jesus'

  954. bones were broken.

  955. >> Verse 18,

  956. we have the soldiers gambling for his

  957. garment. They parted my garments. Among

  958. them they cast lots unto my vesture.

  959. Soldiers were gambling for Jesus

  960. clothing.

  961. And we have him praying to the father.

  962. Remember that. Now verse 24 tells us,

  963. "For he has not despised nor abhored the

  964. afflicted of the afflicted, neither has

  965. he hidden his face from him, but when he

  966. cried unto him, he heard." So we have

  967. Jesus interceding on our behalf while

  968. we're crucifying him. Um so here we have

  969. his painful death. um uh Isaiah's 52 and

  970. 53. We read those where he um was marred

  971. for us. Now turn to Psalm 16

  972. and I'll quit.

  973. We also have his glorious resurrection.

  974. And here in Psalm 16,

  975. you know, this is the verse in Acts. If

  976. we had time to go to Acts, we'd see

  977. there where where Peter says, you know,

  978. don't you guys remember Psalm 16? Don't

  979. you remember this verse? And it wasn't

  980. written about David. David's already

  981. dead and in the ground. It was written

  982. about the Messiah.

  983. So, the Old Testament tells us as well

  984. that his resurrection

  985. is going to take place. Verse 9 of Psalm

  986. 16. Therefore, my heart is glad, my

  987. glory rest, my flesh also rests in hope.

  988. Now again, this is David wrote this, but

  989. he didn't know the Savior was going to

  990. come out of the ground at this point,

  991. but David has hope. And but we have a

  992. greater hope in Christ. For thou will

  993. not leave my soul

  994. in shield, neither will thou permit thy
