  1. elves for the Lord's Supper

  2. and

  3. doing something just a little bit

  4. different

  5. tonight.

  6. I want you to think through me with me

  7. something that I think is important and

  8. will be a blessing to us.

  9. God in heaven

  10. is keeping records

  11. of everyone's life on earth.

  12. And those books will be open someday.

  13. Christians will appear at the judgment

  14. seat of Christ. 2 Corinthians 5 and

  15. other 1 Corinthians 3.

  16. The lost will appear before the great

  17. white throne

  18. in Revelation 20 11-15.

  19. But as we think about what the Bible

  20. talks about and the future,

  21. every one of us is going to give account

  22. to God. The books are going to be open.

  23. It's going to be reviewed.

  24. There'll be rewards passed out to the

  25. saved.

  26. And uh there'll be degrees of punishment

  27. passed out to the lost.

  28. Life is important. Every day of life is

  29. important.

  30. Our works cannot save us.

  31. But certainly heaven is very aware of

  32. how we live our lives.

  33. As we live our lives, we are all

  34. actually writing our own autobiography.

  35. Uh I think everybody here knows the

  36. difference between a biography and an

  37. autobiography. A biography is when

  38. someone else writes about your life. An

  39. autobiography is when you do.

  40. And every one of us every day is adding

  41. a page to our autobiography.

  42. And uh most of us

  43. are probably in the last chapter. We're

  44. getting there. Maybe some of you are two

  45. or three chapters from the end, but some

  46. of us uh especially people just had

  47. birthdays.

  48. We will not say who

  49. are in the last chapter. I'm in the last

  50. chapter, I'm sure.

  51. We don't know how long that chapter will

  52. be.

  53. But all and all of us will have a a

  54. book, an autobiography of different

  55. lengths.

  56. Some don't live as long as others.

  57. Methuselah

  58. had the longest

  59. biography ever written.

  60. 969 pages, one page for every year of

  61. his life. And you know, being

  62. illustrative here,

  63. so yours and mine will be much shorter

  64. in comparison to his.

  65. And as far as we know,

  66. uh, most of us gray beards or baldheads

  67. are

  68. in the last chapter

  69. or close to it. We're getting closer to

  70. the last chapter.

  71. Now, why do I say such things?

  72. Because I'm going to look at people in

  73. the Bible in the last chapter of their

  74. life, what they did.

  75. We can't even begin to look at all of

  76. them.

  77. But let's pick up let's pick out some

  78. New Testament people. We could reference

  79. some Old Testament people.

  80. Let's pick out let's pick out Peter,

  81. John, and Paul

  82. because we have explicit

  83. information from them when they were not

  84. only in the last chapter of their life

  85. but getting into the last paragraph

  86. of their life.

  87. They all wrote part of the New

  88. Testament.

  89. The Apostle John wrote five books of the

  90. New Testament.

  91. The apostle Peter wrote first and second

  92. Peter. And if you believe that the

  93. church father Papus, which I do, Mark

  94. wrote the gospel of Mark

  95. uh through the instruction

  96. of Peter. So Peter was very very much

  97. involved in writing the gospel of Mark.

  98. So I think we could I personally am

  99. saying that Peter wrote three books not

  100. two. Mark makes the third.

  101. And of course maul Paul wrote more than

  102. any of the others uh John or Peter.

  103. And

  104. certainly all of this interests us

  105. tonight.

  106. They're not the only ones that

  107. ministered and wrote about their last

  108. chapter. Ecclesiastes

  109. was not written by a young Solomon.

  110. Ecclesiastes, the book was written by an

  111. old Solomon. And the poem of old age

  112. proves it.

  113. The man who wrote the po poem of old age

  114. was not a young man. A young man could

  115. never write that.

  116. So obviously Ecclesiastes was not

  117. written and Solomon was a young man. If

  118. you ponder Ecclesiastes 12 where he

  119. describes the body as a house that's

  120. fallen down,

  121. you got to be there

  122. right like that.

  123. And of course, Moses

  124. Moses had a swan song

  125. in Deuteronomy.

  126. The book of Deuteronomy was a book of

  127. review of the law. And Moses knew he

  128. wasn't going to cross the Jordan. He was

  129. going to be buried in Moab.

  130. He knew his time was short. Sister, his

  131. brother were already gone. He was 120.

  132. God said, "You're not crossing the

  133. Jordan. Everybody else is, but you're

  134. not."

  135. Somebody in this room is going to be the

  136. last one to heaven if Jesus tries. I

  137. wonder who that'll be.

  138. We don't know, do we? Or maybe the

  139. trumpet will sound and we'll all go at

  140. the same time.

  141. But either way, we're closer than when

  142. we were born. We're closer than when we

  143. were born again. We're closer than we

  144. were last year or last month. And if if

  145. we're not in the last chapter, we might

  146. be in the second to last or third to

  147. last. But every day we're writing

  148. another page

  149. of our autobiography.

  150. Someday that biography will be read

  151. before everyone.

  152. Now, thank God our sins are under the

  153. blood and there'll be some editing

  154. by the Lord.

  155. But as we think about all these things,

  156. uh, we're not writing inspired scripture

  157. as the men that I mentioned, Peter,

  158. John, and Paul,

  159. but we are writing our autobiography

  160. with our lives

  161. and what we say

  162. and what we do

  163. and what we don't do and what we don't

  164. say

  165. very interesting

  166. but I want to look let's look in second

    2 Peter 1 chapter mention

  167. Peter chapter 1

  168. second Peter chapter 1

    2 Peter 1 chapter mention

  169. this is not young Peter

  170. this is old Peter

  171. and I'm not sure how old

  172. is old

  173. date of writing most believe it's 66 AD.

  174. Peter's about to be crucified with Mrs.

  175. Peter

  176. at his side

  177. according to extra biblical writing.

  178. And Peter knows it. He knows his time on

  179. earth is running out. The hour class is

  180. almost empty on top.

  181. And so in second Peter chapter 12,

  182. excellent

  183. to put you always in remembrance of

  184. these things, though you know them.

  185. I just gave you the growth cycle.

  186. Just gave you the growth cycle that

  187. you're being to be involved in.

  188. You know, just like notes on the piano,

  189. you just keep going

  190. higher and higher and higher.

  191. Start out with C until you get back to

  192. C. But you're in moving forward

  193. as he talks about all of that, add to

  194. this, add to this, add to this.

  195. And he says in verse 12, wherefore I

  196. will not be negligent to put you always

  197. in remembrance of these things. And that

  198. means the importance of growing

  199. though you know them and are established

  200. in the present truth. It's not enough

  201. that you know it. Even if you know it,

  202. I'm going to tell you again.

  203. Yay. I think it's fitting as long as I'm

  204. in this tabernacle, that means this

  205. body, to stir you up, putting you in

  206. remembrance, knowing that shortly I must

  207. put off this my tabernacle even as the

  208. Lord Jesus has shown me.

  209. Remember Jesus Jesus was very clear how

  210. Peter was going to die

  211. in the last chapter of John

  212. and the Peter's embracing it. He he

  213. senses it. He knows he's not going to be

  214. around. He's refreshing people's memory

  215. of what he taught them before and he's

  216. uh going over all of that.

  217. And so

  218. um

  219. it's a fascinating business. How is

  220. Peter, what is Peter doing in the last

  221. cha page of the last chapter of his

  222. life?

  223. He's ministering to people.

  224. He's focused on others and their

  225. maturity. He's focused on others and

  226. what they will do when he's gone.

  227. He's preparing them for his departure.

  228. And so that's what Peter's doing here.

  229. He's refreshing their memory of things

  230. he'd already taught them. And he's

  231. announcing his departure is getting

  232. closer.

  233. And the things he wants them to remember

  234. are the things that

  235. he's already said in verses 3 to 11 that

  236. we know so well. the growth cycle.

  237. And

  238. let's ask ourselves this question.

  239. Who are the people we are seeking to

  240. minister to spiritually

  241. in the last chapter

  242. of our life?

  243. Do we know who they are?

  244. Are we treat are we making effort to

  245. minister to them? Peter could have just

  246. said, you know, I've done my bit. I've

  247. been an apostle for 35 36 years. I've

  248. preached. I've traveled. I've wore

  249. myself out. I've been persecuted.

  250. I've done my bit.

  251. I'm retired.

  252. No, he didn't retire. I'm not saying

  253. retire retirement is bad. Retirement

  254. sometimes is good. Some people don't

  255. know when to quit.

  256. And by quit, I mean maybe they maybe

  257. they're not supposed to continue in the

  258. same capacity that they were in. But we

  259. should never stop serving the Lord ever.

  260. We should not never stop serving his

  261. people

  262. till our last breath.

  263. I think I used this in a message

  264. already. Forgive me if I did about Ulysa

  265. Grant. I used that, didn't I? Or am I

  266. mixed up?

  267. >> Was that in nursing home or is that

  268. here?

  269. >> I don't either. I

  270. >> think it was last week.

  271. Well,

  272. anyway,

  273. General Ulysus Srant became President

  274. Grant,

  275. but he was asked to write his memoirs on

  276. the Civil War.

  277. And Mark Twain was very involved in

  278. trying to encourage him to do that.

  279. He did not want to do it. He didn't feel

  280. he was a good writer.

  281. Didn't feel that was his gift.

  282. But Mark Twain was very uh and very uh

  283. seriously trying to get him to do it.

  284. Well, then Grant got throat cancer

  285. and his time on Earth was limited

  286. and he had made a bad investment with

  287. one of his relatives urgings and he'd

  288. lost all his money and he had

  289. probably about a million dollars at that

  290. point. He lost it lost it all. So his

  291. family needed to has a lot of money back

  292. then, but he he needed to do something

  293. to provide for his widow when he was

  294. gone. And he's now he's got throat

  295. cancer and he has no money and death is

  296. is coming closer every day.

  297. So he decided, I'm going to write the

  298. memoirs and see if I can get it

  299. published. And he wrote it.

  300. It became a classic. People still read

  301. it.

  302. He didn't think it was any good, but he

  303. was just trying to earn a little money

  304. for his widow and his family before he

  305. departed. He worked hard on it every

  306. day. Every day, six hours a day, seven

  307. hours a day he worked on writing his

  308. memoirs. And finally, he finished it

  309. three days before he died.

  310. and it was very popular and he provided

  311. for his family.

  312. So Ulysus Srant was in the last chapter

  313. of his life and he knew it. I've got

  314. throat cancer. It's incurable for me.

  315. I'm not going to last very long. So what

  316. am I going to do?

  317. Well, he didn't say to his wife, "Let's

  318. go on vacation."

  319. Now, that wouldn't been bad.

  320. That's not a bad thing.

  321. Uh I remember a physician in town that

  322. asked me what he ought to do when he

  323. found out he was going to die and he

  324. they planned to go to Europe. I said go

  325. to Europe. He did.

  326. They went on vacation. Nothing wrong

  327. with that at all.

  328. But Grant realized he had a mission. He

  329. had his family had a problem. He

  330. couldn't go on vacation. He couldn't do

  331. that.

  332. He needed to provide for them. That's

  333. part of a father and husband's job is to

  334. be the provider as well as the

  335. protector.

  336. So he wrote and he wrote and he wrote

  337. and he wrote. Didn't feel like it. Six,

  338. seven hours a day, every day.

  339. He got it done

  340. and people are still reading it.

  341. So he didn't say, "Let's go on vacation

  342. because I don't have long to last."

  343. Maybe he planned on doing it when he

  344. when he got done, but they didn't have

  345. time to do it because he died 3 days

  346. after he finished.

  347. He didn't say, "I've done my part. I'm

  348. tired. Won the war

  349. and beat General Lee. That's a hard

  350. thing."

  351. So he did it.

  352. Now Peter knows he's going to die.

  353. Peter understands what's coming.

  354. He knows it's coming. He knows exactly

  355. what's coming because Jesus has told

  356. him. And because he knows, he energizes

  357. himself to write the book that we know

  358. of as second Peter to encourage the

  359. people that he ministered to to grow.

  360. That's what it's for.

  361. And of course the last words in the book

  362. is a key to the book 3:18.

  363. Grow in grace

  364. and in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus

  365. say our savior. Grow in grace in our

  366. knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus

  367. Christ. To him be glory both now and

  368. forever.

  369. My last words to you is grow and give

  370. glory to God.

  371. Pretty good way to go out, I'd say.

  372. How many people been blessed by Second

  373. Peter? It's one of my favorite books in

  374. the Bible to preach. Some of you were

  375. here when we went through Second Peter,

  376. and I absolutely am blessed by it.

  377. Incredible book in the Bible. I'm so

  378. glad that Peter wrote it.

  379. So, he was concerned for the people

  380. under him. They'd already grown. It's

  381. not like they were babies, but he wanted

  382. them to grow more.

  383. So Peter said, "This is my last shot.

  384. This is my last ministry. One more

  385. effort for the Lord Jesus Christ."

  386. What's the old cowboy saying? Die with

  387. your boots on.

  388. That comes with from the cowboys, right?

  389. You're dressed for work. You get your

  390. boots on. You're hurting cattle. They

  391. might stampede and run over you or

  392. you're fighting Indians or you're

  393. fighting wrestlers or you know you you

  394. die with your boots on is an idiom for

  395. fighting to the end

  396. despite the risks

  397. and maybe dying while fighting working

  398. or performing a dangerous task or

  399. difficult task.

  400. uh and uh

  401. person who dies with their boots on is

  402. someone who keeps working to the end.

  403. Now that doesn't mean every pastor has

  404. to be pastor till the day he dies.

  405. Sometimes you need to retire and let the

  406. next guy go and just say you know what

  407. I'll be pastor emmeritus

  408. means I'm retired

  409. in name only and I'm here to work and

  410. help or I'll be an elder or I won't be

  411. anything. I'll just be here to help when

  412. I can or I'll move and go somewhere

  413. else. But the point is, no one retires

  414. from the ministry. If you're a

  415. Christian, you want to have a ministry

  416. the last month, day, week of your life.

  417. Thank you, Peter. You did it.

  418. You did it.

  419. And uh we might retire from our job, but

  420. we're not retired from Christ's service.

  421. Second Timothy chapter 4.

    2 Timothy 4 chapter mention

  422. This is Paul's

  423. last letter. And just like Peter, Paul

  424. knew he's going to die.

  425. So Paul knew he was at the end of the

  426. end of the last chapter

  427. of his life.

  428. The problem you and I have is we don't

  429. know when the end comes, right?

  430. Death usually surprises us.

  431. And

  432. my dad lived in 93.

  433. That was a surprise to him

  434. and surprised to all of us, but he did.

  435. And he was in pretty good shape to the

  436. end.

  437. But nobody knows on that except Paul

  438. knew. And in 2 Timothy 4:5, he says to

    2 Timothy 4:5

  439. Timothy, "Watch in all things

  440. endure in afflictions. Do the work of

  441. evangelist. Make full proof of thy

  442. ministry

  443. for I am ready to be offered, and the

  444. time of my departure is at hand." He's

  445. talking about his martyrdom. He's

  446. talking about his death.

  447. I've got my ticket.

  448. I've got my ticket. The time of my

  449. departure is at hand.

  450. He can see it. He can know it.

  451. And apparently there's a death date on

  452. the calendar for Paul coming up.

  453. And so it's like someone in an airport

  454. that knows when the plane's going to

  455. take off. Paul was he knew when the time

  456. was coming where he was going to be

  457. taken out of this world. We don't all

  458. know that, but he did.

  459. I guess there's something good to be

  460. saying about having an execution date

  461. and you know when your departure's

  462. going.

  463. But he said, "I fought a good fight. I

  464. finished my course. I've kept the faith.

  465. Henceforth, there's laid up for me a

  466. crown of righteousness, which the Lord,

  467. the righteous judge, shall give me at

  468. that day, and not to me only, but unto

  469. all them that love his appearing." Now,

  470. it wasn't going to happen next week

  471. because he he wants Timothy to come and

  472. he wants Luke to come and he wants Mark

  473. to come and uh he wants him to bring his

  474. cloak that he left in Trrowaz. So,

  475. apparently this isn't going to be before

  476. they can probably get there.

  477. These are the words of a man uh who's

  478. going he had you can't say he's dying

  479. with his boots on because they didn't

  480. wear boots. dying with his sandals on.

  481. You know, he was all about the Lord's

  482. business.

  483. And so, may God help us die and harness

  484. be about the Lord's business.

  485. And uh

  486. Pastor Oswald took in God's grace, as

  487. you've heard me say many times, died

  488. after teaching a nursing home service

  489. and handing a woman a track and

  490. explaining John 3:16 to him her when he

    John 3:16

  491. died in the process of explaining to her

  492. John 3:16.

    John 3:16

  493. The founder of Gospish South America

  494. was in a railroad station witnessing to

  495. people, passing out tracks

  496. and witnessing to people.

  497. And he handed a track to a little boy

  498. and dropped over dead.

  499. And the little boy said, "Look what the

  500. dead man just gave me."

  501. Now that's pretty good. Not a way not a

  502. bad way to go, right?

  503. And so, thank God for him and his

  504. faithfulness to the end.

  505. And Paul was that way and he knew it was

  506. coming.

  507. And he knew he was in the last page or

  508. pages of his earthly life.

  509. And how do he spend it?

  510. He wrote second Timothy

  511. or dictated it. Either way, that was

  512. pretty involved

  513. for someone to take up the little time

  514. they have left to do this, but he did. I

  515. had two long telephone calls yesterday

  516. and one was someone I was ministering to

  517. on the phone from out of Athens and

  518. another I forget what the other one was.

  519. They were two long calls. They're all

  520. ministry stuff. I didn't even leave the

  521. house yesterday except for nursing home.

  522. No, yesterday Saturday, wasn't it? I was

  523. on the phone with those calls

  524. and

  525. it they were long enough that they were

  526. tiring although I enjoyed myself.

  527. But Paul didn't have a phone but he did

  528. have papyrus and pen.

  529. And so he's writing. He's ministering to

  530. others. He's bringing him then into the

  531. experience.

  532. And this isn't the only time he did it

  533. when he was in Rome. Remember when he

  534. first got there the first time in Rome,

  535. he called all the Jews in

  536. a Bible study with him from morning to

  537. night,

  538. 12-hour Bible study.

  539. And the Apostle Paul was busy.

  540. And that's how he spent the last chapter

  541. of his life. And guess what? That's how

  542. he that's how he was all the chapters of

  543. his life.

  544. The only rest he got is when they threw

  545. him in jail. And even then, he didn't

  546. rest. He was either singing hymns or uh

  547. worshiping and with others there or

  548. ministering to those there or writing

  549. scripture. But God was gracious in

  550. giving the apostles some rest by getting

  551. him thrown in prison so they didn't have

  552. to zoom about the country all the time.

  553. Now, the Apostle John is another one.

  554. The amazing thing about John to me is he

  555. wrote five books at his old age. I don't

  556. know how he did that.

  557. Now two of them are really little

  558. in second John and third John

  559. but first John's five chapters and it's

  560. quite involved and it's quite original

  561. and it's quite it's wonderful to teach

  562. and it was very needed for the church at

  563. Ephesus after the church split when the

  564. false Christians left

  565. and he wrote the gospel of John

  566. something that is still being used by

  567. Christians today to win people to Jesus.

  568. Was that time well spent?

  569. And he wrote he wrote the book of

  570. Revelation. Not that he had much choice

  571. because God kept telling him, "Right,

  572. right, right."

  573. But he did it. He said, "God, I'm too

  574. old. Get somebody young to do this."

  575. He had a wonderful experience

  576. and gave us

  577. that.

  578. So John uh on the island of Patmas had

  579. some breast from the rigors of ministry

  580. but he was busy. He was busy.

  581. King David had loose ends to

  582. tie up when he was old and he told

  583. Solomon, didn't he? Deal with this guy.

  584. Deal with this guy. Deal with this guy.

  585. I'm not going to live long enough to do

  586. it. You take them out.

  587. You're wise, you know how to do it. He

  588. pointed out people that had to go.

  589. That for whatever reasons he couldn't do

  590. it, but he knew

  591. Solomon could do it. And what did he do?

  592. He couldn't build the temple, but he

  593. could sure plan it. And he threw himself

  594. into planning the temple. Got the

  595. materials, got the instructions,

  596. designed it. um

  597. got the materials and all of that. So

  598. Solomon just had to build it.

  599. And that was an amazing thing.

  600. And so

  601. Peter, Paul, and John, you can add David

  602. right before he died. You can add

  603. Solomon because he he spent his old age

  604. writing Ecclesiastes.

  605. And what a precious thing it is. Now we

  606. come to the last,

  607. the Lord Jesus Christ.

  608. You know, time becomes more important to

  609. us as we get older because we got less

  610. of it.

  611. When you're younger, you think, I got

  612. plenty of time.

  613. But when you're older, clock seems to go

  614. faster. calendar seems to go faster and

  615. you know you don't have enough time

  616. likely to do all the things you'd like

  617. to do.

  618. How did Jesus spend

  619. his last day and night?

  620. Well, we'd have to go to John 13-1 17

  621. and 18 to see that. We're not going to

  622. do it.

  623. We have the upper room discourse.

  624. We have the Lord Jesus preparing the

  625. disciples for his going away. We have

  626. him praying for them with that wonderful

  627. high priestly prayer that we spent I

  628. think we spent 20ome weeks on that high

  629. priestly prayer in chapter 17 when we

  630. taught the gospel to John.

  631. And so he certainly did that and

  632. everything in John's gospel uh uh helps

  633. us. We remember the garden of

  634. Gethsemane. He was praying on his last

  635. night on earth.

  636. But he was he walked. What did what did

  637. Jesus do the last night? The night in

  638. which he was betrayed.

  639. The last night on earth, the last day,

  640. the last night of the last chapter of

  641. Jesus's life on earth.

  642. He washed feet.

  643. He introduced He taught the the upper

  644. room discourse.

  645. He gave us He prayed, "Not my will, but

  646. thine be done." And he gave the Lord's

  647. supper.

  648. He gave the Lord's supper.

  649. The very last night on earth, he gave

  650. the Lord's supper.

  651. He wouldn't see another night.

  652. And he said, "This do in

  653. remembrance

  654. of me."

  655. As often as you eat this bread and drink

  656. this cup, you do show forth the Lord's

  657. death

  658. till he come.

  659. And for 2,000

  660. years, Christians in churches have taken

  661. the bread of cup and remembered his

  662. death.

  663. And so the Jews had the Passover and

  664. they would look the Passover lamb and

  665. the Passover blood, but we look to the

  666. lamb of God that takes away the sin of

  667. the world that the Passover was just a

  668. picture of. And we remember him

  669. and our Lord Jesus modeled for us

  670. how to minister right to the very end.

  671. It is not unimportant how we live.

  672. Read the book of Acts and what it says

  673. about Dorcas and how she sewed and made

  674. stuff for people. read the book of Acts

  675. of how a widow is not to be taken into

  676. the uh uh the church's support unless

  677. she's done this this and this wash the

  678. saint's feet and all the rest and uh

  679. it's not important how we live

  680. it. Thank God for our early Christian

  681. life, the middle of our life, but also

  682. the end. We want to end well, don't we?

  683. And we're all going to stand before the

  684. Lord Jesus, give account of ourselves to

  685. God,

  686. and we'll be glad that by God's grace,

  687. we repented and believed and were saved

  688. whenever we were saved. Young, young

  689. age, middle age, old age, we're going to

  690. be glad. And we're certainly going to be

  691. glad we didn't neglect the assembly of

  692. the saints together when the Lord's

  693. supper was being observed because the

  694. Lord said, "This do in remembrance of

  695. me."

  696. Which means if you don't do it, you're

  697. forgetting it. He wants to be remembered

  698. by our bread and the cup.

  699. Not once in a while, not just when we

  700. feel like it. It's something that's not

  701. to be neglected. Now, obviously,

  702. sometimes we're traveling and we can't

  703. get to church and they don't have

  704. communion on the day we're there, but

  705. certainly this is there there's a casual

  706. Christianity that's not the New

  707. Testament expectation.

  708. There's a ferveny and a faithfulness

  709. that's expected of the saints.

  710. I don't believe water baptism saves, but

  711. I wouldn't want to see Jesus without

  712. being waterbaptized.

  713. Told you to do it. Why didn't you do it?

  714. I don't believe taking communion keeps

  715. you saved or is some kind of sacrament

  716. in the sense adds to my salvation. But I

  717. wouldn't want to see Jesus and say, you

  718. know, I know I I know I've been a

  719. Christian, but I got away from church,

  720. got away from communion. I haven't had

  721. communion in 30 years.

  722. Stand before Jesus. He said, "This do in

  723. remembrance of me." You mean you forgot

  724. me for 30 years?

  725. If you don't remember the Lord, you'll

  726. forget the Lord.

  727. When you forget the Lord, Satan comes in

  728. and sin comes in.

  729. The Lord knows what we need. The Lord

  730. knows he you need to remember him.

  731. If you don't remember you're married

  732. when you're away from home, you might

  733. just cheat on your wife

  734. or your wife might cheat on her husband.

  735. That's why wedding rings are a good

  736. thing. They kind of remind you.

  737. I don't have one cuz my finger's too

  738. fat.

  739. I've already added gold to it a couple

  740. of times.

  741. Very important. This was the night when

  742. our Lord was on the night he was

  743. betrayed. He's introducing something to

  744. be remembered. The last one of the last

  745. things he did.

  746. But that didn't even stop his ministry.

  747. Not even after the garden of e of the

  748. garden of Gethsemane. He confessed

  749. before Pilate. He confessed before

  750. Herod. Well, he didn't say anything to

  751. Herod, but he stood before him. He

  752. confessed before the Sanhedrin. a good

  753. confession before Pilate

  754. and he confessed before the Sanhedrin

  755. where they pronounced death to him and

  756. the great seven sayings from the cross

  757. when our Lord could hardly breathe

  758. cuz on the cross to taking a breath was

  759. a torture.

  760. It's amazing he got those seven sick.

  761. We supported Rick and Bev God for years

  762. and Rick's retired. He's been sick. He's

  763. he is there's something with his lungs

  764. that are all messed up and I'm friends

  765. with him on Facebook and he even went to

  766. he went to

  767. what was it?

  768. >> No, he went to Roman Romania, but he

  769. also went to uh Czechoslovakia.

  770. Czechoslovakia.

  771. >> Ukraine.

  772. >> Ukraine. He went to Ukraine. He just got

  773. back from Ukraine. Now he's back in the

  774. hospital with the mask on. They just got

  775. the mask off and he's been in and out of

  776. the hospital. He's probably not too long

  777. for this world.

  778. He's older than me,

  779. but he's been serving the Lord as a uh

  780. missionary. And one of the things on

  781. Facebook, he got on when he was in uh

  782. when he was in Ukraine, I think it was

  783. Ukraine or one of the countries, he he

  784. goes into those countries that are near

  785. Austria,

  786. he was on television and 10,000 people

  787. watched.

  788. But Rick's busy. He's not saying, "Oh,

  789. I'm running out of stage."

  790. He's

  791. in the battle.

  792. He's kind of like David on the B on the

  793. battlefield when he's so old he can't

  794. swing the sword and and he can't even

  795. block the the sword thrust and somebody

  796. has to There's David, old David trying

  797. to swing his sword and somebody has to

  798. rescue him. David, you better lead from

  799. behind now from now on. No more coming

  800. into battle.

  801. Um,

  802. may God be thank the Lord Jesus

  803. persisted in ministry

  804. even while he was dying.

  805. That's how Hudson Shed's wife Myra, she

  806. witnessed to the nurse when she was den

  807. that woman's dying and she witnessed to

  808. me. She's concerned about me.

  809. And that of course was the Lord Jesus.

  810. And one of the thieves

  811. beside him

  812. was saved.

  813. Remember me when you come into your

  814. kingdom.

  815. This man's done nothing of miss. What

  816. are you laughing at him about? We're

  817. getting the due reward of our deeds, but

  818. this man's done nothing a miss. remember

  819. me when you come into your kingdom. He

  820. saw a king. He saw a king. Even in his

  821. suffering, he saw a king. He saw the

  822. king of kings

  823. and he was saved.

  824. And Jesus said, "Today you will be with

  825. me in par."

  826. Wasn't long after that the thief died

  827. and Jesus died. And I'd like to see the

  828. fa the look on his face when he ended up

  829. in heaven.

  830. I'd like to see the look on his mother's

  831. face. He certainly didn't expect.

  832. But it was because in the Lord Jesus

  833. ministered right up to the end.

  834. May God help us as we remember our

  835. Lord's death tonight.

  836. This is not a little thing.

  837. This is a very sacred thing. His

  838. death was for us.

  839. His death is described more than

  840. anything else in all four gospels. More

  841. material is spent on the last week of

  842. Jesus than any other part of his life.

  843. And so as we come to the Lord's table

  844. tonight,

  845. we're doing something we've done before.

  846. And we have the privilege

  847. and the joy to do it again,

  848. but we're older than we did it the last

  849. time.

  850. So, we're doing it again another time.

  851. And if we live long enough, may we keep

  852. doing it until the Lord calls us.

  853. It's a great privilege to have this

  854. opportunity tonight.

  855. to recognize our savior, to rejoice in

  856. his death

  857. as often as you drink it

  858. in remembrance of me. Father, we thank

  859. you for the bread in the cup.

  860. We thank you, Father, as a church.

  861. There's a very simple thing our Lord

  862. asked us to do.

  863. He commanded us to do. This is not

  864. option.

  865. And the bread and the cup can't save us.

  866. Know that we're not trying to earn our

  867. salvation

  868. or even maintain it.

  869. But in love to you and in worship to

  870. you.

  871. Thanksgiving it is the eukarist to you.

  872. We take the bread.

  873. We take the cup.

  874. and we'd remember

  875. as we get older. There's many things we

  876. forget.

  877. And our forget is getting stronger than

  878. our rememberer.

  879. But we remember Jesus.

  880. We remember the cross

  881. and we remember the price that was paid.

  882. So in the sacredness of this hour, and

  883. the joy of these moments,

  884. may we glad, may we be glad that we were

  885. here.

  886. And if we have to miss any church

  887. service, may it not be the Lord's

  888. supper.

  889. And if sometimes we do have to miss it,

  890. maybe we realize I'm I can't make it now

  891. because of sickness or traveling or

  892. something like that.

  893. But always count every time we can

  894. legitimately make it that we'll do our

  895. best to do it

  896. because we can never repay.

  897. We'll be remembering his death for us

  898. for all eternity in heaven.

  899. We want to begin now

  900. to do it

  901. even on earth

  902. even though we do it imperfectly.

  903. as we all do

  904. and in the last chapter of our life,

  905. our lives

  906. when we meet the Lord

  907. and the review of our lives takes place.

  908. It will at least be said

  909. that we took the bread and we took the

  910. cup

  911. and we counted it special, counted it

  912. sacred.

  913. We counted it a joyful thing.

  914. We need

  915. to remember him

  916. not forget

  917. in Jesus name.

  918. Oh Lord, as we go from this place

  919. loving you more,

  920. trusting you more.

  921. May the power of your love and the light

  922. of your word shine well to a sin

  923. darkened world as we go from this place.
