The Resurrection of Jesus: Prophesied | Pastor William Hixson

There will be no Bible class until I get

back from uh my trip. Uh no Wednesday

Bible class, but we will have prayer

meeting. So, please be a prayer meeting

this week and the two weeks that follow.

May that prayer continue.

If you're new with us this morning, uh

we we are in midseries. In fact, we're

doing two serieses at once on Sunday

morning. One is great text of the Bible.

We've been doing that series. So, we're

working through a message or two at from

each book of the Old Testament without

doing the book studies uh that we have

done and we'll continue to do when we're

done. Great text of the Old Testament

and great text of the New Testament. Uh

we're also doing a series on the

resurrection of Jesus Christ. This is

the ninth message in that particular

series. It's on YouTube and Rumble and

all the rest, but uh this is our ninth

message.

And so we're doing topical messages in

this series emphasizing the importance

of the resurrection.

You know,

resurrection of Christ part of the

gospel. We should be experts on that,

right?

>> If if we know any part of the Bible, we

ought to know about the resurrection of

Christ. We should know it backwards,

forwards, inside, out.

We should know everything about it

because the gospel is that Christ died

for our sins according to the

scriptures. He was buried and rose again

the third day according to the

scriptures. And so, as we proclaim the

good news, and that's our job. It's all

of our jobs, we should know what we're

talking about.

because we will be faced with

opposition.

We will be faced with contradiction.

We'll be faced with spiritual uh warfare

as every time we try to do it. So just

we we need to be very well very

wellversed on this subject

and uh so this is our ninth message and

uh we're doing that this morning again.

So turn with me to Luke 24.

Luke 24.

I'm assuming you know the context.

This is the Lord Jesus

confronting

his people in Luke chapter

Luke 24 · chapter mention

24.

This is Cleopus and wife. I believe it's

his wife. Can't prove that. Could have

been two men, but

they're they've left. They know the tomb

is empty. They are confused and Jesus

confronts them. Verse 25, chapter 24:2.

Then he said to them, "Oh foolish ones,

may he never have to say that to us.

Oh foolish ones and slow of heart to

believe. May he never have to say that

to us.

All that the scripture, all that the

prophets have spoken, ought not Christ

to have suffered these things and enter

into his glory?

And beginning at Moses

and all the prophets,

he expounded to them in all the

scriptures

the things

concerning

himself.

this marvelous Easter afternoon con

confrontation

by the risen Lord and they didn't even

know who he was at that point.

It wasn't their eyes were holden that

they didn't recognize it.

Now that was a sevenmile walk

and they spent it profitably listening

about the resurrection and then of

course you know what happened after

that.

What the Lord Jesus does here to these

people who are overcome with sorrow and

uh don't know what's going on. The women

went to the tomb and it's empty and

people are saying he's risen and we

don't know what's going on. Jesus said,

"This is all unnecessary drama.

You people are dull as dirt." That's

what he's what he's saying. You fools.

How is it you can't believe all that the

scriptures are are spoken? You're

displaying grave spiritual retardation.

Your IQ is about the size of a snail.

What's going on?

That's Bill Hixon's interpretation.

Fools and slow of heart.

And he opened the scriptures.

And he would open the scriptures to us

today. And he puts two things together

that I want you to think about.

He puts together his own prophecies of

his resurrection.

and he puts together the Old Testament

Bibles prophecies of his resurrection.

He their eyes are holding. They don't

recognize him. He wants them to see it

in the Bible

before they see it in reality.

And he's basically saying it's clear as

crystal in your Bible, but you are

oblivious to the obvious.

And Jesus is saying, "My prophecies and

the Old Testament prophecies about the

Messiah's death, burial, and

resurrection are connected and

correlated. There's a mutual connection

between them that should be obvious, but

you're not getting it. So, let's go back

to basic basic Christianity 101.

You know, we should be wise to

salvation, right?"

that they were being foolish.

And we need to have that good heart that

hears the word of God and understands

it.

And so

basically the Lord Jesus

is dealing with all these things.

And may God give us uh an understanding

of holy scripture, a balanced knowledge,

a focused knowledge, a balanced

knowledge that doesn't major on minors

and minor on majors. A balanced the

Bible's balance should be our balance,

right? What the Bible majors on, we

should major on. What the Bible minors

on, we should minor on. a balanced

knowledge, a focused knowledge of the

written word, which is all about the

living word. And Jesus said, "If you

believe Moses, you'd believe me because

he wrote about

since you don't believe what he wrote,

how are you going to believe what I

say?"

And it came down, this was a strange

spiritual blindness. You know, unsaved

people are spiritually blind, right?

Satan blinds the minds of those that are

lost.

Thus, the light of the glorious gospel

should shine to them. Every person you

know that's not a Christian is blind

spiritually.

Doesn't matter how many times you tell

them, how many times you show them, how

many times you deal with them. Unless

God opens their eyes, they're going to

go into eternity that way. They're

blind.

2 Corinthians chapter 4 couldn't be

2 Corinthians 4 · chapter mention

clearer. And it takes spiritual

illumination. It takes the Holy Spirit's

work to open up their eyes. And it was

the same with us.

And even when it comes to Jesus's death

and resurrection from the dead, very

blind to that. Very blind to that. But

these weren't unsaved people. These were

saved people. You expect unsaved people

to be spiritually blind. But even saved

people have their blind spots.

And this was a big one and it was no

excuse.

These people grew up in the synagogue.

They didn't grow up in Athens. They

didn't Greece where they were pagan

worshiping idols. They grew up in the

Jewish synagogue in their hometowns and

the temple in Jerusalem. They where the

Bible was read and studied. They knew.

They should have known better than they

knew. I when I study this, I wonder how

many things is Jesus going to rebuke me

for when he's What's the matter with

you, Bill Hixon? You studied the Bible

your whole life and you missed something

here. Look, look what you missed over

here. You missed over here. What's the

matter with you?

We're all going to stand before the

judgment seat of Christ. We're all going

to give account to God.

You are individually. Can't hide in the

crowd. Can't hide in the crowd.

every one of us. Romans 14.

And so God expects us to hear him when

he speaks in his word.

And when it comes to Jesus's death and

resurrection,

it's important we be experts on that

because that's the gospel we're all

supposed to know to proclaim to other

people.

And

may God help us not to be vague on that.

are are blurred in our understanding of

that.

Now, what are these major Let's We're

going to do two things this morning. The

prophecies of Jesus's resurrection in

the Old Testament that were written and

finished in the Bible of the Jews 400

years before Jesus was born

and then Jesus's own prophecies about

it.

You got to add those two things

together.

There was that long ago thing in the in

their Bible hundreds of years before

this written down. And then there was

Jesus's prophecies for three years that

he was going to die and rise again.

Now, I know we know these things,

but and I can't there's no way I would

have to preach 10 messages to get

through the Old Testament prophecies on

the resurrection of Jesus. I'm not going

to do that this morning. I'm I'm going

to emphasize one. And it's interesting

Keith's here because he taught a whole

series on this. Isaiah 53. Would you

turn? By the way, welcome Keith and

Kathy. We're glad to have you here.

Very glad.

uh Psalm 53 which really begins in

excuse me Isaiah 53 which really begins

in Isaiah 52

17.

This is very very very

clear

that the servant of the Lord is going to

die.

I'm not going to read the whole thing

because I think we know the whole thing.

I want to make this comment that some of

you

have heard me make before.

This psalm is a prophecy of what's going

to happen in the future.

It's a psalm about the repentance

of the Jewish nation that they're going

to be called to repentance

for not believing in Jesus.

So you we usually look at Psalm 53 as

something in the past. It's describing

that which is in the past, but it's that

which is in their past that they should

have known and rejected and they're

going to be held accountable. And

everyone's going to be held accountable.

You hear the gospel and you reject it,

you're going to be held accountable and

you're going to be sorry.

And so let's start in 52:13. Behold, my

servant, that's Jesus Christ we know,

shall deal prudently. He'll be exalted

and extolled and be very high.

That's that's the endgame for him.

And as many as were astonished at thee,

his visage was so marred more than any

man in his form more than the sons of

men. That's what happened in the first

coming. The one that was so beat up and

and and crucified and mistreated

is now the one that's will be exalted

and extolled and very high at the end of

history.

So shall he speak sprinkle many nations

and kings shall shut their mouths at him

for that which they'd not been told they

shall see and that which they've not

heard they'll consider.

That's describing gentile peoples

hearing about Jesus in the church age

and in the future uh right before the

Lord comes whose believed are uport and

to whom is the arm of the Lord revealed.

He'll grow up before him like a tender

plant like a root out of dry ground and

he has no form or commonliness and when

we'll see him there's no beauty that we

should desire him. He's despised and

rejected of men, a man of sorrows and

acquainted with grief. And we hid as it

were our faces from him. He was despised

and we esteemed him not. The book

prophet Isaiah is describing his own

people.

He's describing the Jewish people that

didn't accept him when he came the first

time and are going to realize when he

comes the second time they made a big

mistake.

Surely

he's borne our griefs, carried our

sorrows. We did esteem him stricken,

smitten of God, and afflicted. He was

pierced for our transgressions. That's

what the Hebrew word means. He was

bruised for our iniquities, and the

chastisement for our peace was upon him,

and with his stripes, we're healed. All

we like sheep have gone astray. We've

turned everyone to his own way. And the

Lord laid on him the iniquity of us all.

That's definitely the cross of Calvary.

That's substitutionary atonement.

It goes on and does what? Let's skip

down to verse nine. He made his grave

with the wicked and with the rich in his

death.

He died between two thieves and he was

buried in a rich man's tomb.

Because he'd done no violence, neither

was any deceit in his mouth. Yet it

pleased the Lord to bruise him. He's put

him to grief. When you will make his

soul an offering for sin, he'll see his

seed and prolong his days. That's

resurrection. I want you to think about

that right there.

He's going to see his seed. He's going

to see the results of the redemption

that he bought at the cross of Calvary.

He's going to prolong his days. And the

pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in

his hand. He'll see the travail of his

soul and shall be satisfied. And by his

knowledge shall make my righteous

servant justify many, for he'll bear

their iniquities. Therefore, I'll divide

him a portion with the great. And he

shall divide the spoil with the strong.

Uh when's he do that? After he died. How

do you do that after you after you're

dead?

You can't do that if you're still dead.

Other people divide your stuff. Your

kids, your grandkids, they all take

stuff. You can only divide the spoil if

you're alive.

It's resurrection because he poured out

his soul to death. He was numbered with

the transgressors. He bore the sin of

many and made intercession for the

transgressors. It's an amazing prophecy.

Crystal clear. Crystal clear on our

Lord's death. He was graveyard dead.

That's why they buried him.

He was so dead they buried him.

And but this same suffering servant who

made who has made a guilt offering

that's overpayment. He he he didn't pay

down to the penny. He paid overpayment

will see his offspring and prolong uh uh

the servant of the Lord is going to

prolong what's it say prolong his days.

So what a precious thought. This is one

of the great prophecies of the Bible.

And when was it made? Seven centuries

before Jesus was born.

The same prophet that predict the virgin

birth. Same prophet predict the child is

going born, the son is given. Uh seven

centuries before Jesus was born. It was

part of the Jewish cannon. It's in the

Dead Sea Scrolls. There's no question

about it being part of Isaiah.

And that's that's just one of multitude

of Old Testament prophecies on the

resurrection.

One.

It's one of the big ones, but it's one.

And but with that one

comes something else. And this something

else is important.

The God of the Bible in later chapters

of Isaiah challenges

all the other religions of the world,

all the other gods of the world, all the

other pagans uh uh to do what he did.

I can tell the future and bring it to

past and you can.

And Isaiah 53 is a big example. God can

tell the future and forget the past and

nobody else can do that.

And this is something that's repeated.

It's a test. It's a significant test

where the God of the Bible challenges

all other religions

in the world and in history to do what

he did.

If you're God, tell the future and then

bring it to past the way you told it.

If you can't do that, you're zero.

Nothing.

That's what he says over and over again.

And so the same God that's predicting

the death, burial, resurrection, and

exaltation of the Messiah says, "I can

do this." And you want to know the he's

the real God?

Look at Jesus.

Look at the cross. Look at the empty

tomb. Look at the resurrection.

Now, God says this, he makes this

challenge multiple times in in the book

of Isaiah. He says it so much you get

tired of reading it.

It's a challenge to all other religions.

And no other religion's ever been able

to take the challenge.

There's no other religion that's got

fulfilled prophecy.

There's some that say they do, but they

don't. It doesn't take much to realize

they don't. But most of them don't even

say it. Turn with me to Isaiah 41.

Please go to Isaiah 41 just to

illustrate this.

Some of you have heard me teach this

again, but how can you really teach the

subject of the resurrection if you don't

see these challenges in Isaiah

41, chapter 41, 21-29.

This is it.

Produce your call, says the Lord. 21

Bring forth your strong reasons, says

the king of Jacob. Let them bring forth

and show us what shall happen. Let them

show the former things.

Tell us about the past, what they are,

and that we may consider them and know

the latter end of them or declare us

things to come. You ought to be able to

go both directions if you're God, right?

Tell what really happened in the past

and tell what's going to happen in the

future. If you can't do that,

you're a fake.

Show the things that are to come

hereafter that we may know that you're

gods. Yay. Do good, do evil, that we may

be dismayed and behold it together. Do

something if you're there. If you're

really there, do something.

Predict your what you're going to do and

do it.

Behold, you are nothing. You are

nothing. And your work of you're a work

of not an abomination is he who chooses

you. I've raised up one from the north

and he'll come and from the rising sun

shall he call on my name. He'll call

upon princes as upon mortar and the

potter and the clay. Who's declared from

the beginning that we may know and

before time that we may say he's

righteous. Yay, there is none that

shows. There's none that declares. Yeah,

there's none that hears the words.

It's very clear here. For behold, and

there was no man even among them, and

there was no counselor that when I asked

of them could answer a word. Behold,

they're all vanity works of nothing.

And you take every world religion in the

in that's ever been put them in that

category. There is zero.

>> There's zero. That doesn't mean you

might learn something from one of them

or something. They might say something

in some somebody says something, but

basically they're zero because they're

not really gods. You're not confronted

with God. I'm God. Now, he says that in

Isaiah 41. He says about the same thing

in Isaiah 42. He says it again in Isaiah

43. He says it again in Isaiah 44. He

says it again in Isaiah 45. He says it

again in Isaiah 46. It's like a broken

record.

He makes the statement,

"You can't tell the future. You're

nothing." And then he challenges others

to do it and they can't. The idols

cannot do it. They can't predict the

future because they're zero.

That's why we have a wonderful Bible

that was finished before Jesus was born.

400 years.

And that's why we have a New Testament

that was finished long before we were

born.

And we can put them together

and we see how it fits.

If you got a key and that key fits the

lock and the lock opens, oh,

I got the right door and I got the right

key.

That's how we should look at our Bible.

It's the door.

And Jesus is the key. He unlocks the

scriptures.

Those that don't trust him as their

savior are they their minds are locked.

John Waver said of Isaiah 53:10, "It's

Isaiah 53:10

difficult to see how this passage could

have any literal fulfillment after the

death of Christ except by resurrection.

Walter Kaiser said, "The New Testament

writers use the Old Testament

apologetically with a view to convincing

intransigent Jewish listeners that

neither Christ nor Christianity was some

new or unrelated artifice of men on the

contemporary scene. If in fact

if if it if in fact was exactly what it

it is in fact exactly what should have

been expected and that in detail. Had

the Old Testament writers been heeded,

the constant challenge was search the

scriptures for these are the

authenticating credentials that validate

Christ his claims in

this group of believers.

Now,

if the policeman pulls you over, what

what's he going to say? Show me your

driver's license.

He's going to look at that driver's

license. He's going to look at the

picture. He's going to look at the date,

your birthday. He's going to look, does

do you match the license?

If you travel and you got a passport,

show me the passport.

How do they know you are you?

Because there's a document that's

credible

that validates you legally

as the person

that's Jesus is the Messiah, not because

he said so, but because the Bible says

so.

And his death and resurrection are in

the Bible. And that's a sample of Old

Testament preaching. Uh even in Isaiah,

remember the Ethiopian unique? He bought

a copy of Isaiah which was very

expensive in those days.

He had to be a high roller to afford

that. He went to Jerusalem to worship.

He wasn't a Christian. He wasn't even a

Jew.

And he got so excited about it when he

heard uh that he bought a copy of the

book of Isaiah. And he's reading it in

his chariot as he's going along. And God

sent a man to him and he spoke to him

and the the Christian said, "You

understand what you're reading?" He

said, "How can I except someone guide

me?" And it he was right in Isaiah. And

from that scripture, Philip preached to

him what? Christ.

And we see in Acts 10, Acts 13, Acts 17,

there's passage after passage where

they're preaching in synagogues. Here's

what your Bible says. Your Bible, not

some new book that I'm writing. Your

Bible.

And this is what happened.

We know who he is because he rose from

the dead. Thomas Adams was a president

of the United States and he said about

Jesus Christ, "His death did justify us

and his resurrection did justify his

death."

had somebody like Jesus done with a

little special mission.

We know who the real God is. We know who

the real Savior is.

I have a book in my library. This man

has a PhD in Hebrew

and he he has a chapter called uh

answering Jewish objections to Jesus,

the Messiah Prophecy Objections.

And in that book, he gives 39 objections

that the Jews make to a Christian sin.

13 of them are in Isaiah 53.

He's got chapter and verse and that

deals with every objection.

One of them is Isaiah 53 does not say

the servant will rise from the dead.

Now, if you can't see that Isaiah says

the servant will rise from the dead,

there's really no hope for you. You have

spiritual glaucoma, you have spiritual

macular degeneration,

you you you have every type of spiritual

eye disease that you can have. You are

blind and that's it because it's there.

If you can't see what's there, there's a

problem. The problem isn't what's there.

The problem is in your seeing. That's

when you go to the eye doctor and they

put the letters on though. Can you see

this? Oh, I can't see it. The problem's

not in the letters. Their problems in

me, right?

And Michael Brown said, "How does

someone die and yet prolong his day?

It's resurrection. How do you divide the

with this with how do you divide the

spoils if you're not resurrected?

And he said such an interpretation is is

self-evident providing the most natural

novice reading of the text. Isaiah 53

predicted the resurrection of the

Messiah. His death, burial,

resurrection.

J. Alec Mer said, Isaiah 53:11 is one of

Isaiah 53:11

the fullest statements of atonement

theology ever pen.

It's deep on the cross. It's deep on the

resurrection. Another scholar said, "The

point is to say in the most vivid

language that the servant's life will

not be feudal after all."

See, he's on the other side of death.

Alan McCrae writing on Gospel of Isaiah,

he will prolong his days shows that the

servants's activity will not end at his

death. It carries a strong suggestion of

physical resurrection and this was

fulfilled by Christ.

Now I don't want to bore you with too

many quotes. Give you one more. John

Calvin

Isaiah could not have better expressed

the infinite love of Christ towards us

than by declaring that he takes the

highest delight in our salvation and

that he rest in it as the fruit of his

labors.

You see, it's describing the suffering

servant as rejoicing

in the fruit of his labors of dying for

our sins.

Now, you and I can rejoice in our labors

in this life, but we can't rejoice in

the next life

because we're not in our house. We're

not driving our car. We're That's over.

It's down here. We're up there.

but our Lord's rejoicing in the fruit of

his labors.

So it vividly validates the person and

work of Christ and the Christian gospel

that springs from it as a work of the

creator redeemer God of the Jewish

nation.

And that's the God of the patriarchs.

That's the God of the prophets. That's

the God of the priests. That's the God

of the Jewish people.

Now and the other thing is it does not

stand alone. Isaiah was not the only one

in the Old Testament to see anything or

write anything about it. Psalm 2, Psalm

16, Psalm 110, Psalm 22 are direct

prophecies of the resurrection.

Zechariah 12-14

and then start adding in the typology.

It's not just the direct prophecies,

it's the foreshadowings,

prophetic foreshadowings

that are all through the Bible.

In Adam, we all die. In Christ, we're

all made alive. He's the last Adam.

That's that's not a mistake.

Adam was the head of the fallen race.

Jesus is the head of the of the saved

race.

Jonah's going to be in the as Jonah was

three days and three nights in the fish.

Son of man will be three days and three

nights in the belly of the earth. the

book of Jonah and Jonah's uh time in the

fish.

He's a dead man as far as everybody

concerned, but then he shows up alive.

That's what put punch in his

message in Nineveh. Joseph in the book

of Genesis, favorite son, rejected by

his brothers, uh uh uh loved by his

father,

ends up everybody said he was dead. They

lied. They said he was dead. Joseph's

dead, dad,

and he was really alive. And this and

right under the Pharaoh, he wasn't

first, he was second. This is Jesus is

under God the Father. And Joseph became

the savior not only of his Jewish

family, but of the ancient

Gentile people. Moses rescued from death

from uh from the Nile River. He he was

going to be crocodile food and he got

rescued. All the other baby Joseph did I

say Joseph? I said Moses. Moses was the

only kid his age.

The rest of them were crocodile food.

Think about it.

The mother made the basket, put it in

the river.

daughter of Pharaoh rescued him and now

he shows up alive.

Do you think God's not just

foreshadowing a future leader that's

going to be thought to be dead?

Really alive? Isaac, Abraham's favorite

son. For three days, Isaac was dead in

the mind of his dad.

Took three days to get to Mount Mariah.

God told Abraham to offer him as a

sacrifice and then God stopped it. And

there's more with David and Joshua and

Samson. Samson did more in his death

than he ever did in his life. You think

there's an accident that the book of

Judges ends with Samson?

It's it's talking about

I believe a picture of Jesus whose birth

was for was foretold and his ministry

foretold and then he did more in his

death than in his life. The volume of

the book it's written of me to do your

will oh God.

That's not counting Boaz or Oat or the

lambs or the bulls or the goats and all

the blood in the tabernacle. All of it

shadows

of good things to come or the two doves

or Aaron's rod that budded.

It's a long series.

A long series when you deal with the Old

Testament's teaching. Some of it very

clear, some of it not clear until after

it happened, but all of it there.

What is typology? One definition, a type

is an Old Testament institution, event,

person, or object or ceremony which has

reality and purpose in biblical history,

but which also by divine design forhadow

something yet to be revealed.

So the Lord Jesus

during his three

year ministry

was teaching about his own death, burial

and resurrection. But his own Old

Testament that was written before he was

born taught the same thing.

You know, other religions

besides Christianity differ with it in

many significant ways, right? One's

merit theology. Every other man-made

religion is a work salvation. We all

know that, right? It's the kind of

religion men would make up. Whether it's

the eight-fold path of Buddhism or the

five pillars of Islam or the Jews taking

the ten commandments, it's man or saving

himself. That's man-made religion. But

only Christianity is not merit-based

theology. It is God's grace.

So the Bible doesn't have it rejects

that old man-made idea that brings glory

to man. Woe to them they gone the way of

Cain.

It it's it's it's uh but it also has

fulfilled prophecy that's really

fulfilled.

And so God says to other religions, "Put

up or shut up.

do what I can do or get out of the way.

Um,

you know, demons in the Bible are the

authors of all for false religion,

right? I have to even quote the

scriptures on that. 1 Corinthians

1 Corinthians 10:14–22

10:14-22, 1 Timothy 4 1-4, demons are

the authors of false religion.

And um demons are fallen angels.

And there's something about demons that

you all know. They can't tell the

future.

Angels can't tell the future. Right?

Jesus said so.

Angels don't know about what time of my

second coming. And demons is fallen

angels. They don't they certainly don't

know. If angels don't know the day or

the hour that it's only with the father

and demons are fallen angels, then they

cannot 100% know the future. They can't

do it. They're not they're not God.

They're not infinite. They're not

omnisient.

The devil was a good guesser, but he

can't.

And since they can't know, they can't

control. You can't control what you

don't know.

And therefore, anything they got to say

doesn't have to be all of

what wonderful clarity we have when we

come to the Bible, whether we're reading

the Old Testament or hearing the

prophecies from Jesus.

And even the Egyptian sorcerer said

this,

it's the finger

bringing life from death. This is the

So may God help us to rest and rejoice

in the inspiration of scripture and the

validation and verification of the work

of redemption the God-given God revealed

Old Testament

that he died according to the scriptures

was buried rose again the third day

according to the scriptures

now that's why the good news is the best

news.

We've all had good news. We all know

about bad news. We've all had good news.

But the good news of the Bible is the

best news. It's the best news you'll

ever hear.

It's the best news anybody could ever

hear. Risen.

He's risen.

The amazing thing is that the Lord Jesus

taught the same thing the Old Testament

taught.

And I'm not going to go through this

because we don't have the time, but I'll

just give you a couple script I'll just

give you the scriptures. Matthew 16:21,

Matthew 20 18-19, Matthew 26:61, Mark

Matthew 26:61 Mark 9:9

body in three days, I'll raise it up.

I didn't even go to Luke.

So Jesus constant, and there's Luke is

bigger than the other gospels. Jesus was

constantly teaching about his own death

and resurrection. He is constantly

teaching that this was part of the Old

Testament prophets what they taught.

And he and there's a challenge here that

other religions cannot duplicate this

kind of activity.

Validated validated. Validated.

The Bible and the Christian gospel are

uniquely verified. Triple verification.

Uh,

our Old Testament is centuries older

than Jesus

and it was the religious authority of

the Jewish nation and it taught the

resurrection of the Messiah and they

missed it.

Paul called them on it. They're ignorant

the very book they teach.

And our Lord Jesus predicted he would

die and how he would die and why he

would die and when he'd be risen from

the dead. He couldn't have been clearer.

He couldn't you it's possible to be

clearer than he was.

And a ch there's a challenge in the book

of Isaiah or other wannabe rival

religions to to imitate and duplicate

what is unique in Christianity.

Fulfilled prophecy. I mean really

fulfilled prophecy.

You cannot, you will not,

you never will, never will be able to.

This is ABC Christianity, right? ABC

Christianity. The challenge goes out

for any competition competitors from any

place to do the same, to do more, to do

something.

The Apostle Paul said this in Acts 17.

For he has set a day when he'll judge

the world with with justice by the man

he's appointed. He's given proof of this

to all men and that he raised him from

the dead.

And yet there are people that know this

and hear this and they've heard it then

they've heard it and they heard it and

they don't believe it

and they think they're safe.

They make up their excuses why they

don't have to believe it.

Well, that uh the church is bad. No,

your your faith isn't in the church.

It's in Christ.

If you're using the church, a bad church

as an as an excuse for your uh unbelief.

Your faith was in the church. It wasn't

in Christ. So, when the church failed,

your faith evaporated.

Our faith is not in the church. It's not

in the pastor. It's not in the elders.

It's not in some Bible teacher. It's in

Jesus Christ.

Any other faith is not saving faith.

What did George Whitfield say? You've

heard me quote it before. A woman said,

"Oh, I have such faith in you, Mr.

Whitfield." And he said, "Don't put your

faith in me. A minister is a poor savior

in the day of judgment. Put your faith

in Christ."

And that's what the apostles did. And

that's what Jesus did. And I would just

say to anyone here is listening to me

online or in are you saved?

Have you responded biblically to the

gospel in repentance and faith to put

your faith in Jesus as your Lord and

Savior?

No other foundation can any man lay than

that which was laid.

Pretty basic.

The resurrection of Jesus Christ is part

of the gospel. It is the word of God.

And God says, "Look unto me and be saved

all the ends of the earth. For I'm God

and there's no other."

Christ Jesus Christ resurrection

authenticates his role.

He has the keys of Hades and death.

If Christ is raised, read 1 Corinthians

15. You can't stay in the grave.

>> Do you And do you realize

Jesus,

he's going to raise the dead? All the

dead. The dead of the saved, the day

dead of the unsaved.

All that in the graves, Jesus said, are

going to hear his voice and come forth.

All. Some the resurrection of life and

some the damnation, but they're all

going to be raised. You've never You've

never met a person who's going to stay

dead.

We're all going to be raised. The saved

are going to be raised to go to the jud

judgment seat of Christ. The unsaved to

the great white throne. But everybody's

going to be grave. Everybody's going to

be raised.

It just kind of stuns me as we realize

what kind of people are we that go into

eternity forever.

Long after this universe is gone, every

human you've ever met is going to still

exist in one place or another.

They it humans are awesome

because they're in the image of God

and we are responsible

to believe the gospel.

It's not just a matter of life or death.

You know, somebody says this is a matter

of life or death. It's a matter of

eternal life or eternal death.

Some are raised to eternal life. Some

are raised to eternal damnation.

So when we see the resurrection of the

Messiah in the Old Testament, when we

hear the resurrection of the Mess

Messiah prophesied by himself in the

Gospels,

when we see it in the Bible, New

Testament and Old Testament, when we see

it in the lives of other people and we

say that person used to be dead, he's

alive or she's alive spiritually.

By the way, what's it harder to do?

resurrect somebody physically or

spiritually.

Physical resurrection is easier because

the body might be decaying but it's not

resistant.

You ever think about that? The

resurrection of your soul in the new

birth is a greater miracle than the

resurrection of your body

from the grave. Even if you go back to

death,

the body doesn't resist,

but the soul does.

If God raised you spiritually, don't

worry about the resurrection physically.

That's easy in comparison.

>> And we need to proclaim to others what

we've heard. That's our role.

And uh when God speaks, he expects us to

pay attention.

Thomas Watson the Puritan said, "We are

more sure to arise out of our grave than

out of our beds."

It's

pretty much sure thing.

Do we really look at life that way?

Do we look at unsaved people that way?

They're going to be resurrected to

eternal damnation. They need the gospel.

If we look at each other that way,

we're all going to be together again.

I go to prepare a place for you. And if

I go and prepare a place for you, I'll

come again and receive it to myself that

where I am there, you may be also.

No one who's ever died or will die can

stay in the grave.

No one. I'm talking about whether it's

an aborted baby, they're all going to be

raised

by the blood of Jesus. I believe they'll

be saved.

But

or no matter who they are,

why are there let me end on this. Why

are there so many psalms predicting the

resurrection? Psalm 2, Psalm 16, Psalm

22, Psalm 110.

Because the resurrection is not just

something preach, believe or preach.

It's something to sing about.

It's something to praise God.

That's why there's so many prophetic

psalms about the resurrection.

Why sing the psalms?

Why the psalms, the song book deal with

the resurrection of the messa messiah?

Because God, your God, my God, deserves

all the worship and all the praise and

all the adoration and all the joy.

Angels worship him. Humans should super

worship him. We should outdo the angels

with our praise.

and with our singing.

If you're not saved, may God speak to

your heart today.

Our Lord's resurrection is the guarantee

of ours. It's the guarantee of all.

You've never yet or ever will meet a

human being that's going to stay in the

grave permanently.

Big question.

The big question

is what happens after you're resurrected

and where you are and where you'll be

for all eternity.

I don't know. We got a pretty big

universe

and history's pretty long.

God's doing something

beyond this world, beyond our history,

beyond our capability of grasping. I

don't know about you. I in my

imagination, I can't get too far. When I

think about dying and going to heaven, I

think about the first 10 minutes and I

can't go farther.

When I think about the thousand-y year

reign, I I think about that a little

more.

You know, I like to travel. And I'll

have all plenty of time to travel.

Whatever I don't get to go in this life,

God's going to spare this earth for a

thousand years so we can all zoom

around. Never been to China. Never been

to Philippines. Never been to wherever

you haven't been. I'm going to go there

before it burns up. You got a thousand

years to do it.

But then this universe, heaven and

earth, burns up

and there's a new heavens and new earth.

What is that?

Whatever it is, it's eternal.

Whatever it is, it's the endgame. It's

the ultimate goal of which all the rest

is aiming.

And humans have a big part to play in

that.

Whether God gets the glory in judging

them or whether God gets the glory in

saving them, I don't know. Neither do

you. Can we even imagine it? What's that

all about?

this heaven, this earth are going to

cease to exist.

Book of Revelation, we're going to burn

up.

But every person that's ever lived will

not cease to exist.

They'll be somewhere

forever.

How valuable is that neighbor?

How valuable is that relative that

doesn't know the Lord?

They're eternal whether they know so or

not.

They're going to be someplace forever.

We have a great assignment.

You and I couldn't have a bigger task.

We couldn't have a greater

responsibility

to ourselves, to our families,

to our neighbors,

to strangers.

And I'm not saying we bug people. I'm

not saying we do that

uh harass them into getting saved.

Let's love them into the arms of Jesus.

Let's speak when God gives us an

opportunity to do it. Let's make

opportunities

as he guides us.

Let's not neglect what we are to be

about. Go into all the world

and preach the gospel.

Father, we thank you and praise you for

sections we've learned again today. May

we put our troubles and our trials and

our uh life situations

in perspective to the greater thing

going on.

We don't always get everything we want

in this life.

We don't have to.

The next life will more than compensate

that for God's people.

We thank you for one another and thank

you we can join together today

as we sing this last hymn. May we sing

to the glory of God

and to the praise of our savior.

If there's anyone listening in this

church building today or online

that's not saved,

may they begin to take the gospel

seriously.

May they ask themselves this question.

How can a book written hundreds of years

before Jesus was born predict so

accurately who he was,

what he did, and what you did in raising

him from the dead.
