  1. There will be no Bible class until I get

  2. back from uh my trip. Uh no Wednesday

  3. Bible class, but we will have prayer

  4. meeting. So, please be a prayer meeting

  5. this week and the two weeks that follow.

  6. May that prayer continue.

  7. If you're new with us this morning, uh

  8. we we are in midseries. In fact, we're

  9. doing two serieses at once on Sunday

  10. morning. One is great text of the Bible.

  11. We've been doing that series. So, we're

  12. working through a message or two at from

  13. each book of the Old Testament without

  14. doing the book studies uh that we have

  15. done and we'll continue to do when we're

  16. done. Great text of the Old Testament

  17. and great text of the New Testament. Uh

  18. we're also doing a series on the

  19. resurrection of Jesus Christ. This is

  20. the ninth message in that particular

  21. series. It's on YouTube and Rumble and

  22. all the rest, but uh this is our ninth

  23. message.

  24. And so we're doing topical messages in

  25. this series emphasizing the importance

  26. of the resurrection.

  27. You know,

  28. resurrection of Christ part of the

  29. gospel. We should be experts on that,

  30. right?

  31. >> If if we know any part of the Bible, we

  32. ought to know about the resurrection of

  33. Christ. We should know it backwards,

  34. forwards, inside, out.

  35. We should know everything about it

  36. because the gospel is that Christ died

  37. for our sins according to the

  38. scriptures. He was buried and rose again

  39. the third day according to the

  40. scriptures. And so, as we proclaim the

  41. good news, and that's our job. It's all

  42. of our jobs, we should know what we're

  43. talking about.

  44. because we will be faced with

  45. opposition.

  46. We will be faced with contradiction.

  47. We'll be faced with spiritual uh warfare

  48. as every time we try to do it. So just

  49. we we need to be very well very

  50. wellversed on this subject

  51. and uh so this is our ninth message and

  52. uh we're doing that this morning again.

  53. So turn with me to Luke 24.

  54. Luke 24.

  55. I'm assuming you know the context.

  56. This is the Lord Jesus

  57. confronting

  58. his people in Luke chapter

    Luke 24 chapter mention

  59. 24.

  60. This is Cleopus and wife. I believe it's

  61. his wife. Can't prove that. Could have

  62. been two men, but

  63. they're they've left. They know the tomb

  64. is empty. They are confused and Jesus

  65. confronts them. Verse 25, chapter 24:2.

  66. Then he said to them, "Oh foolish ones,

  67. may he never have to say that to us.

  68. Oh foolish ones and slow of heart to

  69. believe. May he never have to say that

  70. to us.

  71. All that the scripture, all that the

  72. prophets have spoken, ought not Christ

  73. to have suffered these things and enter

  74. into his glory?

  75. And beginning at Moses

  76. and all the prophets,

  77. he expounded to them in all the

  78. scriptures

  79. the things

  80. concerning

  81. himself.

  82. this marvelous Easter afternoon con

  83. confrontation

  84. by the risen Lord and they didn't even

  85. know who he was at that point.

  86. It wasn't their eyes were holden that

  87. they didn't recognize it.

  88. Now that was a sevenmile walk

  89. and they spent it profitably listening

  90. about the resurrection and then of

  91. course you know what happened after

  92. that.

  93. What the Lord Jesus does here to these

  94. people who are overcome with sorrow and

  95. uh don't know what's going on. The women

  96. went to the tomb and it's empty and

  97. people are saying he's risen and we

  98. don't know what's going on. Jesus said,

  99. "This is all unnecessary drama.

  100. You people are dull as dirt." That's

  101. what he's what he's saying. You fools.

  102. How is it you can't believe all that the

  103. scriptures are are spoken? You're

  104. displaying grave spiritual retardation.

  105. Your IQ is about the size of a snail.

  106. What's going on?

  107. That's Bill Hixon's interpretation.

  108. Fools and slow of heart.

  109. And he opened the scriptures.

  110. And he would open the scriptures to us

  111. today. And he puts two things together

  112. that I want you to think about.

  113. He puts together his own prophecies of

  114. his resurrection.

  115. and he puts together the Old Testament

  116. Bibles prophecies of his resurrection.

  117. He their eyes are holding. They don't

  118. recognize him. He wants them to see it

  119. in the Bible

  120. before they see it in reality.

  121. And he's basically saying it's clear as

  122. crystal in your Bible, but you are

  123. oblivious to the obvious.

  124. And Jesus is saying, "My prophecies and

  125. the Old Testament prophecies about the

  126. Messiah's death, burial, and

  127. resurrection are connected and

  128. correlated. There's a mutual connection

  129. between them that should be obvious, but

  130. you're not getting it. So, let's go back

  131. to basic basic Christianity 101.

  132. You know, we should be wise to

  133. salvation, right?"

  134. that they were being foolish.

  135. And we need to have that good heart that

  136. hears the word of God and understands

  137. it.

  138. And so

  139. basically the Lord Jesus

  140. is dealing with all these things.

  141. And may God give us uh an understanding

  142. of holy scripture, a balanced knowledge,

  143. a focused knowledge, a balanced

  144. knowledge that doesn't major on minors

  145. and minor on majors. A balanced the

  146. Bible's balance should be our balance,

  147. right? What the Bible majors on, we

  148. should major on. What the Bible minors

  149. on, we should minor on. a balanced

  150. knowledge, a focused knowledge of the

  151. written word, which is all about the

  152. living word. And Jesus said, "If you

  153. believe Moses, you'd believe me because

  154. he wrote about

  155. since you don't believe what he wrote,

  156. how are you going to believe what I

  157. say?"

  158. And it came down, this was a strange

  159. spiritual blindness. You know, unsaved

  160. people are spiritually blind, right?

  161. Satan blinds the minds of those that are

  162. lost.

  163. Thus, the light of the glorious gospel

  164. should shine to them. Every person you

  165. know that's not a Christian is blind

  166. spiritually.

  167. Doesn't matter how many times you tell

  168. them, how many times you show them, how

  169. many times you deal with them. Unless

  170. God opens their eyes, they're going to

  171. go into eternity that way. They're

  172. blind.

  173. 2 Corinthians chapter 4 couldn't be

    2 Corinthians 4 chapter mention

  174. clearer. And it takes spiritual

  175. illumination. It takes the Holy Spirit's

  176. work to open up their eyes. And it was

  177. the same with us.

  178. And even when it comes to Jesus's death

  179. and resurrection from the dead, very

  180. blind to that. Very blind to that. But

  181. these weren't unsaved people. These were

  182. saved people. You expect unsaved people

  183. to be spiritually blind. But even saved

  184. people have their blind spots.

  185. And this was a big one and it was no

  186. excuse.

  187. These people grew up in the synagogue.

  188. They didn't grow up in Athens. They

  189. didn't Greece where they were pagan

  190. worshiping idols. They grew up in the

  191. Jewish synagogue in their hometowns and

  192. the temple in Jerusalem. They where the

  193. Bible was read and studied. They knew.

  194. They should have known better than they

  195. knew. I when I study this, I wonder how

  196. many things is Jesus going to rebuke me

  197. for when he's What's the matter with

  198. you, Bill Hixon? You studied the Bible

  199. your whole life and you missed something

  200. here. Look, look what you missed over

  201. here. You missed over here. What's the

  202. matter with you?

  203. We're all going to stand before the

  204. judgment seat of Christ. We're all going

  205. to give account to God.

  206. You are individually. Can't hide in the

  207. crowd. Can't hide in the crowd.

  208. every one of us. Romans 14.

  209. And so God expects us to hear him when

  210. he speaks in his word.

  211. And when it comes to Jesus's death and

  212. resurrection,

  213. it's important we be experts on that

  214. because that's the gospel we're all

  215. supposed to know to proclaim to other

  216. people.

  217. And

  218. may God help us not to be vague on that.

  219. are are blurred in our understanding of

  220. that.

  221. Now, what are these major Let's We're

  222. going to do two things this morning. The

  223. prophecies of Jesus's resurrection in

  224. the Old Testament that were written and

  225. finished in the Bible of the Jews 400

  226. years before Jesus was born

  227. and then Jesus's own prophecies about

  228. it.

  229. You got to add those two things

  230. together.

  231. There was that long ago thing in the in

  232. their Bible hundreds of years before

  233. this written down. And then there was

  234. Jesus's prophecies for three years that

  235. he was going to die and rise again.

  236. Now, I know we know these things,

  237. but and I can't there's no way I would

  238. have to preach 10 messages to get

  239. through the Old Testament prophecies on

  240. the resurrection of Jesus. I'm not going

  241. to do that this morning. I'm I'm going

  242. to emphasize one. And it's interesting

  243. Keith's here because he taught a whole

  244. series on this. Isaiah 53. Would you

  245. turn? By the way, welcome Keith and

  246. Kathy. We're glad to have you here.

  247. Very glad.

  248. uh Psalm 53 which really begins in

  249. excuse me Isaiah 53 which really begins

  250. in Isaiah 52

  251. 17.

  252. This is very very very

  253. clear

  254. that the servant of the Lord is going to

  255. die.

  256. I'm not going to read the whole thing

  257. because I think we know the whole thing.

  258. I want to make this comment that some of

  259. you

  260. have heard me make before.

  261. This psalm is a prophecy of what's going

  262. to happen in the future.

  263. It's a psalm about the repentance

  264. of the Jewish nation that they're going

  265. to be called to repentance

  266. for not believing in Jesus.

  267. So you we usually look at Psalm 53 as

  268. something in the past. It's describing

  269. that which is in the past, but it's that

  270. which is in their past that they should

  271. have known and rejected and they're

  272. going to be held accountable. And

  273. everyone's going to be held accountable.

  274. You hear the gospel and you reject it,

  275. you're going to be held accountable and

  276. you're going to be sorry.

  277. And so let's start in 52:13. Behold, my

  278. servant, that's Jesus Christ we know,

  279. shall deal prudently. He'll be exalted

  280. and extolled and be very high.

  281. That's that's the endgame for him.

  282. And as many as were astonished at thee,

  283. his visage was so marred more than any

  284. man in his form more than the sons of

  285. men. That's what happened in the first

  286. coming. The one that was so beat up and

  287. and and crucified and mistreated

  288. is now the one that's will be exalted

  289. and extolled and very high at the end of

  290. history.

  291. So shall he speak sprinkle many nations

  292. and kings shall shut their mouths at him

  293. for that which they'd not been told they

  294. shall see and that which they've not

  295. heard they'll consider.

  296. That's describing gentile peoples

  297. hearing about Jesus in the church age

  298. and in the future uh right before the

  299. Lord comes whose believed are uport and

  300. to whom is the arm of the Lord revealed.

  301. He'll grow up before him like a tender

  302. plant like a root out of dry ground and

  303. he has no form or commonliness and when

  304. we'll see him there's no beauty that we

  305. should desire him. He's despised and

  306. rejected of men, a man of sorrows and

  307. acquainted with grief. And we hid as it

  308. were our faces from him. He was despised

  309. and we esteemed him not. The book

  310. prophet Isaiah is describing his own

  311. people.

  312. He's describing the Jewish people that

  313. didn't accept him when he came the first

  314. time and are going to realize when he

  315. comes the second time they made a big

  316. mistake.

  317. Surely

  318. he's borne our griefs, carried our

  319. sorrows. We did esteem him stricken,

  320. smitten of God, and afflicted. He was

  321. pierced for our transgressions. That's

  322. what the Hebrew word means. He was

  323. bruised for our iniquities, and the

  324. chastisement for our peace was upon him,

  325. and with his stripes, we're healed. All

  326. we like sheep have gone astray. We've

  327. turned everyone to his own way. And the

  328. Lord laid on him the iniquity of us all.

  329. That's definitely the cross of Calvary.

  330. That's substitutionary atonement.

  331. It goes on and does what? Let's skip

  332. down to verse nine. He made his grave

  333. with the wicked and with the rich in his

  334. death.

  335. He died between two thieves and he was

  336. buried in a rich man's tomb.

  337. Because he'd done no violence, neither

  338. was any deceit in his mouth. Yet it

  339. pleased the Lord to bruise him. He's put

  340. him to grief. When you will make his

  341. soul an offering for sin, he'll see his

  342. seed and prolong his days. That's

  343. resurrection. I want you to think about

  344. that right there.

  345. He's going to see his seed. He's going

  346. to see the results of the redemption

  347. that he bought at the cross of Calvary.

  348. He's going to prolong his days. And the

  349. pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in

  350. his hand. He'll see the travail of his

  351. soul and shall be satisfied. And by his

  352. knowledge shall make my righteous

  353. servant justify many, for he'll bear

  354. their iniquities. Therefore, I'll divide

  355. him a portion with the great. And he

  356. shall divide the spoil with the strong.

  357. Uh when's he do that? After he died. How

  358. do you do that after you after you're

  359. dead?

  360. You can't do that if you're still dead.

  361. Other people divide your stuff. Your

  362. kids, your grandkids, they all take

  363. stuff. You can only divide the spoil if

  364. you're alive.

  365. It's resurrection because he poured out

  366. his soul to death. He was numbered with

  367. the transgressors. He bore the sin of

  368. many and made intercession for the

  369. transgressors. It's an amazing prophecy.

  370. Crystal clear. Crystal clear on our

  371. Lord's death. He was graveyard dead.

  372. That's why they buried him.

  373. He was so dead they buried him.

  374. And but this same suffering servant who

  375. made who has made a guilt offering

  376. that's overpayment. He he he didn't pay

  377. down to the penny. He paid overpayment

  378. will see his offspring and prolong uh uh

  379. the servant of the Lord is going to

  380. prolong what's it say prolong his days.

  381. So what a precious thought. This is one

  382. of the great prophecies of the Bible.

  383. And when was it made? Seven centuries

  384. before Jesus was born.

  385. The same prophet that predict the virgin

  386. birth. Same prophet predict the child is

  387. going born, the son is given. Uh seven

  388. centuries before Jesus was born. It was

  389. part of the Jewish cannon. It's in the

  390. Dead Sea Scrolls. There's no question

  391. about it being part of Isaiah.

  392. And that's that's just one of multitude

  393. of Old Testament prophecies on the

  394. resurrection.

  395. One.

  396. It's one of the big ones, but it's one.

  397. And but with that one

  398. comes something else. And this something

  399. else is important.

  400. The God of the Bible in later chapters

  401. of Isaiah challenges

  402. all the other religions of the world,

  403. all the other gods of the world, all the

  404. other pagans uh uh to do what he did.

  405. I can tell the future and bring it to

  406. past and you can.

  407. And Isaiah 53 is a big example. God can

  408. tell the future and forget the past and

  409. nobody else can do that.

  410. And this is something that's repeated.

  411. It's a test. It's a significant test

  412. where the God of the Bible challenges

  413. all other religions

  414. in the world and in history to do what

  415. he did.

  416. If you're God, tell the future and then

  417. bring it to past the way you told it.

  418. If you can't do that, you're zero.

  419. Nothing.

  420. That's what he says over and over again.

  421. And so the same God that's predicting

  422. the death, burial, resurrection, and

  423. exaltation of the Messiah says, "I can

  424. do this." And you want to know the he's

  425. the real God?

  426. Look at Jesus.

  427. Look at the cross. Look at the empty

  428. tomb. Look at the resurrection.

  429. Now, God says this, he makes this

  430. challenge multiple times in in the book

  431. of Isaiah. He says it so much you get

  432. tired of reading it.

  433. It's a challenge to all other religions.

  434. And no other religion's ever been able

  435. to take the challenge.

  436. There's no other religion that's got

  437. fulfilled prophecy.

  438. There's some that say they do, but they

  439. don't. It doesn't take much to realize

  440. they don't. But most of them don't even

  441. say it. Turn with me to Isaiah 41.

  442. Please go to Isaiah 41 just to

  443. illustrate this.

  444. Some of you have heard me teach this

  445. again, but how can you really teach the

  446. subject of the resurrection if you don't

  447. see these challenges in Isaiah

  448. 41, chapter 41, 21-29.

  449. This is it.

  450. Produce your call, says the Lord. 21

  451. Bring forth your strong reasons, says

  452. the king of Jacob. Let them bring forth

  453. and show us what shall happen. Let them

  454. show the former things.

  455. Tell us about the past, what they are,

  456. and that we may consider them and know

  457. the latter end of them or declare us

  458. things to come. You ought to be able to

  459. go both directions if you're God, right?

  460. Tell what really happened in the past

  461. and tell what's going to happen in the

  462. future. If you can't do that,

  463. you're a fake.

  464. Show the things that are to come

  465. hereafter that we may know that you're

  466. gods. Yay. Do good, do evil, that we may

  467. be dismayed and behold it together. Do

  468. something if you're there. If you're

  469. really there, do something.

  470. Predict your what you're going to do and

  471. do it.

  472. Behold, you are nothing. You are

  473. nothing. And your work of you're a work

  474. of not an abomination is he who chooses

  475. you. I've raised up one from the north

  476. and he'll come and from the rising sun

  477. shall he call on my name. He'll call

  478. upon princes as upon mortar and the

  479. potter and the clay. Who's declared from

  480. the beginning that we may know and

  481. before time that we may say he's

  482. righteous. Yay, there is none that

  483. shows. There's none that declares. Yeah,

  484. there's none that hears the words.

  485. It's very clear here. For behold, and

  486. there was no man even among them, and

  487. there was no counselor that when I asked

  488. of them could answer a word. Behold,

  489. they're all vanity works of nothing.

  490. And you take every world religion in the

  491. in that's ever been put them in that

  492. category. There is zero.

  493. >> There's zero. That doesn't mean you

  494. might learn something from one of them

  495. or something. They might say something

  496. in some somebody says something, but

  497. basically they're zero because they're

  498. not really gods. You're not confronted

  499. with God. I'm God. Now, he says that in

  500. Isaiah 41. He says about the same thing

  501. in Isaiah 42. He says it again in Isaiah

  502. 43. He says it again in Isaiah 44. He

  503. says it again in Isaiah 45. He says it

  504. again in Isaiah 46. It's like a broken

  505. record.

  506. He makes the statement,

  507. "You can't tell the future. You're

  508. nothing." And then he challenges others

  509. to do it and they can't. The idols

  510. cannot do it. They can't predict the

  511. future because they're zero.

  512. That's why we have a wonderful Bible

  513. that was finished before Jesus was born.

  514. 400 years.

  515. And that's why we have a New Testament

  516. that was finished long before we were

  517. born.

  518. And we can put them together

  519. and we see how it fits.

  520. If you got a key and that key fits the

  521. lock and the lock opens, oh,

  522. I got the right door and I got the right

  523. key.

  524. That's how we should look at our Bible.

  525. It's the door.

  526. And Jesus is the key. He unlocks the

  527. scriptures.

  528. Those that don't trust him as their

  529. savior are they their minds are locked.

  530. John Waver said of Isaiah 53:10, "It's

    Isaiah 53:10

  531. difficult to see how this passage could

  532. have any literal fulfillment after the

  533. death of Christ except by resurrection.

  534. Walter Kaiser said, "The New Testament

  535. writers use the Old Testament

  536. apologetically with a view to convincing

  537. intransigent Jewish listeners that

  538. neither Christ nor Christianity was some

  539. new or unrelated artifice of men on the

  540. contemporary scene. If in fact

  541. if if it if in fact was exactly what it

  542. it is in fact exactly what should have

  543. been expected and that in detail. Had

  544. the Old Testament writers been heeded,

  545. the constant challenge was search the

  546. scriptures for these are the

  547. authenticating credentials that validate

  548. Christ his claims in

  549. this group of believers.

  550. Now,

  551. if the policeman pulls you over, what

  552. what's he going to say? Show me your

  553. driver's license.

  554. He's going to look at that driver's

  555. license. He's going to look at the

  556. picture. He's going to look at the date,

  557. your birthday. He's going to look, does

  558. do you match the license?

  559. If you travel and you got a passport,

  560. show me the passport.

  561. How do they know you are you?

  562. Because there's a document that's

  563. credible

  564. that validates you legally

  565. as the person

  566. that's Jesus is the Messiah, not because

  567. he said so, but because the Bible says

  568. so.

  569. And his death and resurrection are in

  570. the Bible. And that's a sample of Old

  571. Testament preaching. Uh even in Isaiah,

  572. remember the Ethiopian unique? He bought

  573. a copy of Isaiah which was very

  574. expensive in those days.

  575. He had to be a high roller to afford

  576. that. He went to Jerusalem to worship.

  577. He wasn't a Christian. He wasn't even a

  578. Jew.

  579. And he got so excited about it when he

  580. heard uh that he bought a copy of the

  581. book of Isaiah. And he's reading it in

  582. his chariot as he's going along. And God

  583. sent a man to him and he spoke to him

  584. and the the Christian said, "You

  585. understand what you're reading?" He

  586. said, "How can I except someone guide

  587. me?" And it he was right in Isaiah. And

  588. from that scripture, Philip preached to

  589. him what? Christ.

  590. And we see in Acts 10, Acts 13, Acts 17,

  591. there's passage after passage where

  592. they're preaching in synagogues. Here's

  593. what your Bible says. Your Bible, not

  594. some new book that I'm writing. Your

  595. Bible.

  596. And this is what happened.

  597. We know who he is because he rose from

  598. the dead. Thomas Adams was a president

  599. of the United States and he said about

  600. Jesus Christ, "His death did justify us

  601. and his resurrection did justify his

  602. death."

  603. had somebody like Jesus done with a

  604. little special mission.

  605. We know who the real God is. We know who

  606. the real Savior is.

  607. I have a book in my library. This man

  608. has a PhD in Hebrew

  609. and he he has a chapter called uh

  610. answering Jewish objections to Jesus,

  611. the Messiah Prophecy Objections.

  612. And in that book, he gives 39 objections

  613. that the Jews make to a Christian sin.

  614. 13 of them are in Isaiah 53.

  615. He's got chapter and verse and that

  616. deals with every objection.

  617. One of them is Isaiah 53 does not say

  618. the servant will rise from the dead.

  619. Now, if you can't see that Isaiah says

  620. the servant will rise from the dead,

  621. there's really no hope for you. You have

  622. spiritual glaucoma, you have spiritual

  623. macular degeneration,

  624. you you you have every type of spiritual

  625. eye disease that you can have. You are

  626. blind and that's it because it's there.

  627. If you can't see what's there, there's a

  628. problem. The problem isn't what's there.

  629. The problem is in your seeing. That's

  630. when you go to the eye doctor and they

  631. put the letters on though. Can you see

  632. this? Oh, I can't see it. The problem's

  633. not in the letters. Their problems in

  634. me, right?

  635. And Michael Brown said, "How does

  636. someone die and yet prolong his day?

  637. It's resurrection. How do you divide the

  638. with this with how do you divide the

  639. spoils if you're not resurrected?

  640. And he said such an interpretation is is

  641. self-evident providing the most natural

  642. novice reading of the text. Isaiah 53

  643. predicted the resurrection of the

  644. Messiah. His death, burial,

  645. resurrection.

  646. J. Alec Mer said, Isaiah 53:11 is one of

    Isaiah 53:11

  647. the fullest statements of atonement

  648. theology ever pen.

  649. It's deep on the cross. It's deep on the

  650. resurrection. Another scholar said, "The

  651. point is to say in the most vivid

  652. language that the servant's life will

  653. not be feudal after all."

  654. See, he's on the other side of death.

  655. Alan McCrae writing on Gospel of Isaiah,

  656. he will prolong his days shows that the

  657. servants's activity will not end at his

  658. death. It carries a strong suggestion of

  659. physical resurrection and this was

  660. fulfilled by Christ.

  661. Now I don't want to bore you with too

  662. many quotes. Give you one more. John

  663. Calvin

  664. Isaiah could not have better expressed

  665. the infinite love of Christ towards us

  666. than by declaring that he takes the

  667. highest delight in our salvation and

  668. that he rest in it as the fruit of his

  669. labors.

  670. You see, it's describing the suffering

  671. servant as rejoicing

  672. in the fruit of his labors of dying for

  673. our sins.

  674. Now, you and I can rejoice in our labors

  675. in this life, but we can't rejoice in

  676. the next life

  677. because we're not in our house. We're

  678. not driving our car. We're That's over.

  679. It's down here. We're up there.

  680. but our Lord's rejoicing in the fruit of

  681. his labors.

  682. So it vividly validates the person and

  683. work of Christ and the Christian gospel

  684. that springs from it as a work of the

  685. creator redeemer God of the Jewish

  686. nation.

  687. And that's the God of the patriarchs.

  688. That's the God of the prophets. That's

  689. the God of the priests. That's the God

  690. of the Jewish people.

  691. Now and the other thing is it does not

  692. stand alone. Isaiah was not the only one

  693. in the Old Testament to see anything or

  694. write anything about it. Psalm 2, Psalm

  695. 16, Psalm 110, Psalm 22 are direct

  696. prophecies of the resurrection.

  697. Zechariah 12-14

  698. and then start adding in the typology.

  699. It's not just the direct prophecies,

  700. it's the foreshadowings,

  701. prophetic foreshadowings

  702. that are all through the Bible.

  703. In Adam, we all die. In Christ, we're

  704. all made alive. He's the last Adam.

  705. That's that's not a mistake.

  706. Adam was the head of the fallen race.

  707. Jesus is the head of the of the saved

  708. race.

  709. Jonah's going to be in the as Jonah was

  710. three days and three nights in the fish.

  711. Son of man will be three days and three

  712. nights in the belly of the earth. the

  713. book of Jonah and Jonah's uh time in the

  714. fish.

  715. He's a dead man as far as everybody

  716. concerned, but then he shows up alive.

  717. That's what put punch in his

  718. message in Nineveh. Joseph in the book

  719. of Genesis, favorite son, rejected by

  720. his brothers, uh uh uh loved by his

  721. father,

  722. ends up everybody said he was dead. They

  723. lied. They said he was dead. Joseph's

  724. dead, dad,

  725. and he was really alive. And this and

  726. right under the Pharaoh, he wasn't

  727. first, he was second. This is Jesus is

  728. under God the Father. And Joseph became

  729. the savior not only of his Jewish

  730. family, but of the ancient

  731. Gentile people. Moses rescued from death

  732. from uh from the Nile River. He he was

  733. going to be crocodile food and he got

  734. rescued. All the other baby Joseph did I

  735. say Joseph? I said Moses. Moses was the

  736. only kid his age.

  737. The rest of them were crocodile food.

  738. Think about it.

  739. The mother made the basket, put it in

  740. the river.

  741. daughter of Pharaoh rescued him and now

  742. he shows up alive.

  743. Do you think God's not just

  744. foreshadowing a future leader that's

  745. going to be thought to be dead?

  746. Really alive? Isaac, Abraham's favorite

  747. son. For three days, Isaac was dead in

  748. the mind of his dad.

  749. Took three days to get to Mount Mariah.

  750. God told Abraham to offer him as a

  751. sacrifice and then God stopped it. And

  752. there's more with David and Joshua and

  753. Samson. Samson did more in his death

  754. than he ever did in his life. You think

  755. there's an accident that the book of

  756. Judges ends with Samson?

  757. It's it's talking about

  758. I believe a picture of Jesus whose birth

  759. was for was foretold and his ministry

  760. foretold and then he did more in his

  761. death than in his life. The volume of

  762. the book it's written of me to do your

  763. will oh God.

  764. That's not counting Boaz or Oat or the

  765. lambs or the bulls or the goats and all

  766. the blood in the tabernacle. All of it

  767. shadows

  768. of good things to come or the two doves

  769. or Aaron's rod that budded.

  770. It's a long series.

  771. A long series when you deal with the Old

  772. Testament's teaching. Some of it very

  773. clear, some of it not clear until after

  774. it happened, but all of it there.

  775. What is typology? One definition, a type

  776. is an Old Testament institution, event,

  777. person, or object or ceremony which has

  778. reality and purpose in biblical history,

  779. but which also by divine design forhadow

  780. something yet to be revealed.

  781. So the Lord Jesus

  782. during his three

  783. year ministry

  784. was teaching about his own death, burial

  785. and resurrection. But his own Old

  786. Testament that was written before he was

  787. born taught the same thing.

  788. You know, other religions

  789. besides Christianity differ with it in

  790. many significant ways, right? One's

  791. merit theology. Every other man-made

  792. religion is a work salvation. We all

  793. know that, right? It's the kind of

  794. religion men would make up. Whether it's

  795. the eight-fold path of Buddhism or the

  796. five pillars of Islam or the Jews taking

  797. the ten commandments, it's man or saving

  798. himself. That's man-made religion. But

  799. only Christianity is not merit-based

  800. theology. It is God's grace.

  801. So the Bible doesn't have it rejects

  802. that old man-made idea that brings glory

  803. to man. Woe to them they gone the way of

  804. Cain.

  805. It it's it's it's uh but it also has

  806. fulfilled prophecy that's really

  807. fulfilled.

  808. And so God says to other religions, "Put

  809. up or shut up.

  810. do what I can do or get out of the way.

  811. Um,

  812. you know, demons in the Bible are the

  813. authors of all for false religion,

  814. right? I have to even quote the

  815. scriptures on that. 1 Corinthians

    1 Corinthians 10:14–22

  816. 10:14-22, 1 Timothy 4 1-4, demons are

  817. the authors of false religion.

  818. And um demons are fallen angels.

  819. And there's something about demons that

  820. you all know. They can't tell the

  821. future.

  822. Angels can't tell the future. Right?

  823. Jesus said so.

  824. Angels don't know about what time of my

  825. second coming. And demons is fallen

  826. angels. They don't they certainly don't

  827. know. If angels don't know the day or

  828. the hour that it's only with the father

  829. and demons are fallen angels, then they

  830. cannot 100% know the future. They can't

  831. do it. They're not they're not God.

  832. They're not infinite. They're not

  833. omnisient.

  834. The devil was a good guesser, but he

  835. can't.

  836. And since they can't know, they can't

  837. control. You can't control what you

  838. don't know.

  839. And therefore, anything they got to say

  840. doesn't have to be all of

  841. what wonderful clarity we have when we

  842. come to the Bible, whether we're reading

  843. the Old Testament or hearing the

  844. prophecies from Jesus.

  845. And even the Egyptian sorcerer said

  846. this,

  847. it's the finger

  848. bringing life from death. This is the

  849. So may God help us to rest and rejoice

  850. in the inspiration of scripture and the

  851. validation and verification of the work

  852. of redemption the God-given God revealed

  853. Old Testament

  854. that he died according to the scriptures

  855. was buried rose again the third day

  856. according to the scriptures

  857. now that's why the good news is the best

  858. news.

  859. We've all had good news. We all know

  860. about bad news. We've all had good news.

  861. But the good news of the Bible is the

  862. best news. It's the best news you'll

  863. ever hear.

  864. It's the best news anybody could ever

  865. hear. Risen.

  866. He's risen.

  867. The amazing thing is that the Lord Jesus

  868. taught the same thing the Old Testament

  869. taught.

  870. And I'm not going to go through this

  871. because we don't have the time, but I'll

  872. just give you a couple script I'll just

  873. give you the scriptures. Matthew 16:21,

    Matthew 16:21

  874. Matthew 20 18-19, Matthew 26:61, Mark

    Matthew 26:61 Mark 9:9

  875. 9:9, uh, Mark 10:33-34,

    Mark 10:33–34

  876. Mark 14:28, John 21:19, destroy this

    Mark 14:28 John 21:19

  877. body in three days, I'll raise it up.

  878. I didn't even go to Luke.

  879. So Jesus constant, and there's Luke is

  880. bigger than the other gospels. Jesus was

  881. constantly teaching about his own death

  882. and resurrection. He is constantly

  883. teaching that this was part of the Old

  884. Testament prophets what they taught.

  885. And he and there's a challenge here that

  886. other religions cannot duplicate this

  887. kind of activity.

  888. Validated validated. Validated.

  889. The Bible and the Christian gospel are

  890. uniquely verified. Triple verification.

  891. Uh,

  892. our Old Testament is centuries older

  893. than Jesus

  894. and it was the religious authority of

  895. the Jewish nation and it taught the

  896. resurrection of the Messiah and they

  897. missed it.

  898. Paul called them on it. They're ignorant

  899. the very book they teach.

  900. And our Lord Jesus predicted he would

  901. die and how he would die and why he

  902. would die and when he'd be risen from

  903. the dead. He couldn't have been clearer.

  904. He couldn't you it's possible to be

  905. clearer than he was.

  906. And a ch there's a challenge in the book

  907. of Isaiah or other wannabe rival

  908. religions to to imitate and duplicate

  909. what is unique in Christianity.

  910. Fulfilled prophecy. I mean really

  911. fulfilled prophecy.

  912. You cannot, you will not,

  913. you never will, never will be able to.

  914. This is ABC Christianity, right? ABC

  915. Christianity. The challenge goes out

  916. for any competition competitors from any

  917. place to do the same, to do more, to do

  918. something.

  919. The Apostle Paul said this in Acts 17.

  920. For he has set a day when he'll judge

  921. the world with with justice by the man

  922. he's appointed. He's given proof of this

  923. to all men and that he raised him from

  924. the dead.

  925. And yet there are people that know this

  926. and hear this and they've heard it then

  927. they've heard it and they heard it and

  928. they don't believe it

  929. and they think they're safe.

  930. They make up their excuses why they

  931. don't have to believe it.

  932. Well, that uh the church is bad. No,

  933. your your faith isn't in the church.

  934. It's in Christ.

  935. If you're using the church, a bad church

  936. as an as an excuse for your uh unbelief.

  937. Your faith was in the church. It wasn't

  938. in Christ. So, when the church failed,

  939. your faith evaporated.

  940. Our faith is not in the church. It's not

  941. in the pastor. It's not in the elders.

  942. It's not in some Bible teacher. It's in

  943. Jesus Christ.

  944. Any other faith is not saving faith.

  945. What did George Whitfield say? You've

  946. heard me quote it before. A woman said,

  947. "Oh, I have such faith in you, Mr.

  948. Whitfield." And he said, "Don't put your

  949. faith in me. A minister is a poor savior

  950. in the day of judgment. Put your faith

  951. in Christ."

  952. And that's what the apostles did. And

  953. that's what Jesus did. And I would just

  954. say to anyone here is listening to me

  955. online or in are you saved?

  956. Have you responded biblically to the

  957. gospel in repentance and faith to put

  958. your faith in Jesus as your Lord and

  959. Savior?

  960. No other foundation can any man lay than

  961. that which was laid.

  962. Pretty basic.

  963. The resurrection of Jesus Christ is part

  964. of the gospel. It is the word of God.

  965. And God says, "Look unto me and be saved

  966. all the ends of the earth. For I'm God

  967. and there's no other."

  968. Christ Jesus Christ resurrection

  969. authenticates his role.

  970. He has the keys of Hades and death.

  971. If Christ is raised, read 1 Corinthians

  972. 15. You can't stay in the grave.

  973. >> Amen.

  974. >> Do you And do you realize

  975. Jesus,

  976. he's going to raise the dead? All the

  977. dead. The dead of the saved, the day

  978. dead of the unsaved.

  979. All that in the graves, Jesus said, are

  980. going to hear his voice and come forth.

  981. All. Some the resurrection of life and

  982. some the damnation, but they're all

  983. going to be raised. You've never You've

  984. never met a person who's going to stay

  985. dead.

  986. We're all going to be raised. The saved

  987. are going to be raised to go to the jud

  988. judgment seat of Christ. The unsaved to

  989. the great white throne. But everybody's

  990. going to be grave. Everybody's going to

  991. be raised.

  992. It just kind of stuns me as we realize

  993. what kind of people are we that go into

  994. eternity forever.

  995. Long after this universe is gone, every

  996. human you've ever met is going to still

  997. exist in one place or another.

  998. They it humans are awesome

  999. because they're in the image of God

  1000. and we are responsible

  1001. to believe the gospel.

1002. It's not just a matter of life or death.

1003. You know, somebody says this is a matter

1004. of life or death. It's a matter of

1005. eternal life or eternal death.

1006. Some are raised to eternal life. Some

1007. are raised to eternal damnation.

1008. So when we see the resurrection of the

1009. Messiah in the Old Testament, when we

1010. hear the resurrection of the Mess

1011. Messiah prophesied by himself in the

  1012. Gospels,

1013. when we see it in the Bible, New

1014. Testament and Old Testament, when we see

1015. it in the lives of other people and we

1016. say that person used to be dead, he's

1017. alive or she's alive spiritually.

1018. By the way, what's it harder to do?

  1019. resurrect somebody physically or

  1020. spiritually.

1021. Physical resurrection is easier because

1022. the body might be decaying but it's not

  1023. resistant.

1024. You ever think about that? The

1025. resurrection of your soul in the new

1026. birth is a greater miracle than the

  1027. resurrection of your body

1028. from the grave. Even if you go back to

  1029. death,

  1030. the body doesn't resist,

  1031. but the soul does.

1032. If God raised you spiritually, don't

1033. worry about the resurrection physically.

  1034. That's easy in comparison.

1035. >> And we need to proclaim to others what

  1036. we've heard. That's our role.

1037. And uh when God speaks, he expects us to

  1038. pay attention.

  1039. U

1040. Thomas Watson the Puritan said, "We are

1041. more sure to arise out of our grave than

  1042. out of our beds."

  1043. It's

  1044. pretty much sure thing.

1045. Do we really look at life that way?

1046. Do we look at unsaved people that way?

1047. They're going to be resurrected to

1048. eternal damnation. They need the gospel.

1049. If we look at each other that way,

1050. we're all going to be together again.

1051. I go to prepare a place for you. And if

1052. I go and prepare a place for you, I'll

1053. come again and receive it to myself that

1054. where I am there, you may be also.

1055. No one who's ever died or will die can

  1056. stay in the grave.

1057. No one. I'm talking about whether it's

1058. an aborted baby, they're all going to be

  1059. raised

1060. by the blood of Jesus. I believe they'll

  1061. be saved.

  1062. But

1063. or no matter who they are,

1064. why are there let me end on this. Why

1065. are there so many psalms predicting the

  1066. resurrection? Psalm 2, Psalm 16, Psalm

  1067. 22, Psalm 110.

1068. Because the resurrection is not just

1069. something preach, believe or preach.

1070. It's something to sing about.

1071. It's something to praise God.

  1072. That's why there's so many prophetic

  1073. psalms about the resurrection.

  1074. Why sing the psalms?

1075. Why the psalms, the song book deal with

1076. the resurrection of the messa messiah?

1077. Because God, your God, my God, deserves

1078. all the worship and all the praise and

1079. all the adoration and all the joy.

1080. Angels worship him. Humans should super

1081. worship him. We should outdo the angels

  1082. with our praise.

  1083. and with our singing.

1084. If you're not saved, may God speak to

  1085. your heart today.

1086. Our Lord's resurrection is the guarantee

1087. of ours. It's the guarantee of all.

1088. You've never yet or ever will meet a

1089. human being that's going to stay in the

  1090. grave permanently.

  1091. Big question.

  1092. The big question

1093. is what happens after you're resurrected

1094. and where you are and where you'll be

  1095. for all eternity.

  1096. I don't know. We got a pretty big

  1097. universe

  1098. and history's pretty long.

  1099. God's doing something

1100. beyond this world, beyond our history,

1101. beyond our capability of grasping. I

1102. don't know about you. I in my

  1103. imagination, I can't get too far. When I

1104. think about dying and going to heaven, I

1105. think about the first 10 minutes and I

  1106. can't go farther.

1107. When I think about the thousand-y year

  1108. reign, I I think about that a little

  1109. more.

1110. You know, I like to travel. And I'll

1111. have all plenty of time to travel.

1112. Whatever I don't get to go in this life,

1113. God's going to spare this earth for a

1114. thousand years so we can all zoom

1115. around. Never been to China. Never been

1116. to Philippines. Never been to wherever

1117. you haven't been. I'm going to go there

1118. before it burns up. You got a thousand

  1119. years to do it.

1120. But then this universe, heaven and

  1121. earth, burns up

1122. and there's a new heavens and new earth.

  1123. What is that?

1124. Whatever it is, it's eternal.

1125. Whatever it is, it's the endgame. It's

1126. the ultimate goal of which all the rest

  1127. is aiming.

1128. And humans have a big part to play in

  1129. that.

1130. Whether God gets the glory in judging

1131. them or whether God gets the glory in

1132. saving them, I don't know. Neither do

1133. you. Can we even imagine it? What's that

  1134. all about?

1135. this heaven, this earth are going to

  1136. cease to exist.

1137. Book of Revelation, we're going to burn

  1138. up.

1139. But every person that's ever lived will

  1140. not cease to exist.

  1141. They'll be somewhere

  1142. forever.

1143. How valuable is that neighbor?

1144. How valuable is that relative that

  1145. doesn't know the Lord?

1146. They're eternal whether they know so or

  1147. not.

1148. They're going to be someplace forever.

1149. We have a great assignment.

  1150. You and I couldn't have a bigger task.

  1151. We couldn't have a greater

  1152. responsibility

1153. to ourselves, to our families,

  1154. to our neighbors,

  1155. to strangers.

1156. And I'm not saying we bug people. I'm

1157. not saying we do that

1158. uh harass them into getting saved.

1159. Let's love them into the arms of Jesus.

1160. Let's speak when God gives us an

1161. opportunity to do it. Let's make

  1162. opportunities

  1163. as he guides us.

1164. Let's not neglect what we are to be

1165. about. Go into all the world

  1166. and preach the gospel.

1167. Father, we thank you and praise you for

1168. sections we've learned again today. May

1169. we put our troubles and our trials and

  1170. our uh life situations

1171. in perspective to the greater thing

  1172. going on.

1173. We don't always get everything we want

  1174. in this life.

  1175. We don't have to.

1176. The next life will more than compensate

  1177. that for God's people.

1178. We thank you for one another and thank

1179. you we can join together today

1180. as we sing this last hymn. May we sing

1181. to the glory of God

1182. and to the praise of our savior.

1183. If there's anyone listening in this

1184. church building today or online

  1185. that's not saved,

1186. may they begin to take the gospel

  1187. seriously.

1188. May they ask themselves this question.

1189. How can a book written hundreds of years

1190. before Jesus was born predict so

  1191. accurately who he was,

1192. what he did, and what you did in raising

  1193. him from the dead.

1194. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.

1195. Let us stand and turn to page 586.

  1196. 586.

1197. And all my labors and trials are all.

1198. And I am faithful on that beautiful

1199. show. Just to be near the dear Lord I

1200. adore will through the ages be glory for

  1201. me.

1202. All that will be glory for me. Glory for

1203. me. Glory for me. When by his grace I

1204. shall look on his face,

  1205. that will be glory,

  1206. be glory

  1207. for me.

1208. Well, as we go from this place,

  1209. loving you more,

  1210. trusting you more.

1211. May the power of your love and the light

1212. of your word shine to a sin darkened

1213. world as we go from this place.
