  1. This morning we're going to look at the

  2. de the deity of Christ,

  3. but it's much more than that. You know,

  4. that's such an important doctrine, such

  5. an important part of the word of God and

  6. you know what we stand on and what we

  7. stand for.

  8. And we've been covering the Trinity,

  9. Godhead, God the Father, God the Son,

  10. and God the Holy Spirit. We spent quite

  11. a few messages on the father and and

  12. even more on the Holy Spirit and now we

  13. have come to God the son

  14. and I suspect there'll be more messages

  15. on him maybe than the rest of the

  16. godhead simply because of his great work

  17. of redemption on our behalf.

  18. So as we went through the word of God um

  19. you know the word of God has shown us

  20. this is this is our you know all

  21. sufficient word that

  22. uh helps us and guides us into into all

  23. truth and Jesus said he would do that.

  24. So from the word of God we have learned

  25. these things that you know that God is a

  26. triune God yet he's one God.

  27. That's not a contradiction. That's what

  28. the Bible says.

  29. And you know, therefore, we believe

  30. these things.

  31. Um, God exists in in three persons.

  32. And when I say persons, I don't mean,

  33. you know, God's not a human like us, but

  34. yet we associate persons with

  35. personality.

  36. So, the Father has a personality, the

  37. Holy Spirit has a personality, and God

  38. the Son has a personality. And we'll

  39. greatly benefit from looking at him and

  40. and and literally studying him, who he

  41. is, and what he said. He's the greatest

  42. example there ever was.

  43. So as we look at him uh and begin this

  44. morning and look upon the deity of

  45. Christ, remember in the Old Testament in

  46. Isaiah 6 how the prophet cried, "Holy,

  47. holy, holy."

  48. So all three of these members of the

  49. Godhead are holy. Father, the Son, and

  50. the Holy Spirit. One is not more holy

  51. than the other or less holy than the

  52. other. You know, they're all holy

  53. together. They're all united uh as one

  54. God

  55. and yet you know the Godhead appears in

  56. in three persons in three personalities

  57. and you know this is forever now you

  58. know God the son left heaven and come to

  59. earth you know that's the virgin birth

  60. the incarnation you know those things

  61. that we looked at about the son of god

  62. um coming from from heaven that

  63. procession he came from the father on a

  64. mission to do his father's will and

  65. those things we have looked at and you

  66. know we saw that one message we spent on

  67. the sinlessness of Christ

  68. and you know there's no sin in him in

  69. thought word or deed uh so we can see

  70. what it's like

  71. to not sin um and you know we certainly

  72. struggle with those things but Jesus did

  73. not

  74. and Hebrews said he's the same

  75. yesterday, today, and forever.

  76. So, you know, Jesus is a member of the

  77. Godhead

  78. um 100%. He's not less than the other

  79. two. He's not more than the other two.

  80. They're united in uh you know, in the

  81. Godhead. That's so important that Bible

  82. says that over and over. You know, how

  83. the Godhead is united, the Father, the

  84. Son, and the Holy Spirit. Yet there is

  85. one true God, one true living God. You

  86. know, and Paul never lost sight of that

  87. in the New Testament. You know, the the

  88. New Testament writers continue to say

  89. there's one God. Yet he exists in three

  90. persons. The Father, the Son, and the

  91. Holy Spirit. And God is light and in him

  92. is no darkness at all. So you know that

  93. means the father and the holy spirit

  94. obviously but as well it means god the

  95. son

  96. and you know heaven is filled with glory

  97. you know someday we're going to go there

  98. someday we're going to be there

  99. going to get to see what that is like

  100. and we're going to need a change right

  101. uh in order to see these things and and

  102. you know the great thing about Jesus

  103. coming to earth you know was him telling

  104. us about heaven. You know, we've never

  105. been there. And I know there are some

  106. people that think they've been there,

  107. but no man has has been to heaven

  108. outside of of Paul the Apostle and John

  109. the Apostle,

  110. you know, and and Paul was not allowed

  111. to talk about it, you know, and John did

  112. talk about it in the book of Revelation,

  113. but you know, there's a glory that we

  114. can't see. There's a there's a heaven

  115. that we cannot see. There's a eternal

  116. place um where Jesus talked about when

  117. he come to earth.

  118. It's filled with glory. That's what he

  119. told us. He was going to go back to the

  120. father and and and enjoy that glory and

  121. be with the father.

  122. So all these things are wonderful.

  123. God the father, God the son, and God the

  124. holy spirit. They're willing to share

  125. with us glory and and heaven and this

  126. this place where there is no darkness,

  127. the place where there is no sin, this

  128. place that's eternal.

  129. That's where God is. You know, the Old

  130. Testament had some things to say about

  131. God. You know, before Jesus come to

  132. earth, you know, God spoke to the

  133. Israelites in many different ways.

  134. That's what Hebrews said, you know,

  135. chapter one, God spoke in diverse ways

  136. to the fathers.

  137. So, you can see God speaking in the Old

  138. Testament. God God revealing himself in

  139. the Old Testament.

  140. And some of the ways that God revealed

  141. himself in the Old Testament was a as a

  142. as a fire.

  143. You know, that's what the the t the uh

  144. tabernacle was for. That's what the

  145. priesthood was for. And you know, God

  146. took his nation and and he set up a

  147. priesthood. He set up the system

  148. that, you know, he could show man who he

  149. was. And in Leviticus is where we find

  150. all those things.

  151. And let's turn back to First Kings. I'm

  152. going to start the Old Testament this

  153. morning in First Kings.

    1 Kings 18 chapter mention

  154. chapter 18.

  155. You know where I'm going.

  156. But you know, God was uh revealing

  157. himself to the nation of Israel in the

  158. in the burnt offering.

  159. You know, it was on the bronze altar by

  160. the priest.

  161. It was a sign of

  162. just total surrender to God.

  163. in the in the priest, his whole life was

  164. dedicated to God.

  165. And you know, that's what Jesus did. He

  166. dedicated his whole life to his father.

  167. And there were the grain offerings. Um

  168. they were burnt on the offer on the

  169. altar by the priest and some of the food

  170. was saved for himself. We had the peace

  171. offering, the sin offering, the trespass

  172. offering. It's where they they took the

  173. fat of the animal and they burned it

  174. on the altar and they saved the meat

  175. for the priest. And we have the the

  176. pleasing aroma offer, you know, that was

  177. to please the Lord, the aroma of

  178. sacrifice and and you know, it it God

  179. was satisfied

  180. and and letting them know that, you

  181. know, he was in their presence.

  182. But many times God appears in the Old

  183. Testament as fire

  184. and you remember the burning bush. You

  185. know, it it burned continually and yet

  186. it was not consumed.

  187. You know, sort of like our son does.

  188. But, you know, as well God does. He's uh

  189. you know, he's a flame of fire.

  190. So, the priest, you know, daily they

  191. tended the fire in the tabernacle. That

  192. was a part of their duty to take care of

  193. the fire, you know, and get the fire

  194. going and keep the fire going. That was

  195. a part of their ministry as well. And

  196. several times, you know, God ignited the

  197. fire from heaven. You know, if they

  198. didn't have one or there wasn't one,

  199. they, you know, just boom, a fire would

  200. appear

  201. from heaven. And and God is telling his

  202. people that he's a flaming fire. He's

  203. holy. He's just, he's good, and all

  204. those great things. And you know, it it

  205. as well as causing them to fear and and

  206. obviously you know what an impact that

  207. must have made on them to see those

  208. things.

  209. But, you know, it was God's presence to

  210. them. It was God's approval

  211. to them. So they were learning, you

  212. know, those things by what God was doing

  213. through the priesthood that God is good.

  214. You know, God is, you know, receiving

  215. our sacrifice

  216. and and it was acceptable and, you know,

  217. that it caused them to worship. You

  218. know, that's what it was for,

  219. you know, to realize God's presence and

  220. and uh you know, and pleasing God. You

  221. know, those things were a part of it.

  222. And you know God spoke you know this way

  223. and you know that things were acceptable

  224. to him.

  225. In Leviticus 9 we have the dedication of

  226. the tabernacle and there's one of those

  227. instances where God you know appeared as

  228. a flame in um 2 Chronicles chapter 7 at

    2 Chronicles 7 chapter mention

  229. the dedication of the temple. Again, you

  230. know, God appears as a flame at the

  231. dedication of the temple. So, the

  232. Israelites were learning that, you know,

  233. God is a consuming fire.

  234. So, as they have learned these things

  235. through the scripture and we have

  236. learned these things through the

  237. scripture, you know, God is holy, God is

  238. just, God is sinless, he's not like us.

  239. And you know he was revealing himself in

  240. that way.

  241. So you know the father has no humanity,

  242. the spirit has no humanity but Jesus

  243. does.

  244. So God has come to earth as a man as his

  245. son. And as we look at him, we can

  246. learn, you know, many many things.

  247. And uh his his virgin birth, his

  248. incarnation,

  249. and you know, he has two natures, divine

  250. and human.

  251. And this morning, we're going to look at

  252. his divine side,

  253. knowing that God is a consuming fire.

  254. And in First Kings chapter 18,

    1 Kings 18 chapter mention

  255. you guys know the story here in verse

  256. 20.

  257. This is where God appears on Mount

  258. Carmel

  259. to the Israelites and to the uh to the

  260. prophets of Baal. And how does God

  261. display himself here? He does it as a

  262. fire as a as a flame of fire like he

  263. did, you know, with the Old Testament

  264. priesthood in Leviticus.

  265. You know, that's how God showed himself

  266. to Israel. And here um with these failed

  267. prophets, God does a similar thing

  268. again. Verse 21.

  269. And Elijah came unto the people and

  270. said, "How long are you going to be

  271. between two opinions?

  272. If the Lord God follow him, if it be

  273. Baal, then follow him." And the people

  274. answered him, "Not a word." I mean,

  275. that's where it's at for us, too. It's

  276. God's either a liar or God is no liar,

  277. you know. So, all the other people and

  278. all the other religions and all the

  279. other things out there are false.

  280. The real God of the scripture, the Lord

  281. God here, he's the one that we should be

  282. listening to.

  283. And the prophet El Elijah says in verse

  284. 22 unto the people, I even I only remain

  285. a prophet of the Lord.

  286. Baal's prophets are 450 men. So a lot of

  287. times we're outnumbered greatly

  288. and so was Elijah here.

  289. And call you the name of the of your

  290. God, and I will call on the name of the

  291. Lord. you know, their their gods don't

  292. have names, but our God does. He's the

  293. Lord. He's the God who answers by fire.

  294. You know, Israel learned these things

  295. through the priesthood, you know, and

  296. the things that went on back there with

  297. the priesthood and with God, God's

  298. presence and God's approval and those

  299. things they learned through these uh

  300. appearances of God in a flame. Then

  301. Elijah said to the prophets of Baal,

  302. "Choose you one bulock for yourselves

  303. and prepare it first, for you are many,

  304. and call upon the name of your God, but

  305. put no fire under it." You know, so

  306. here's what Elijah caused them to do.

  307. Let's see if your God can appear as a

  308. fire. You know the story. They took the

  309. bulock they given them and they prepared

  310. it. They called on the name of Baal from

  311. morning until noon saying, "Oh Ba, hear

  312. us." There uh was noon.

  313. Elijah mocked them. Cry aloud for your

  314. God. Either he is te maybe talking or

  315. pursuing or on a journey perhaps

  316. sleeping sleeping that he might be

  317. awaken you know there's humor in the

  318. Bible isn't there and here it is what's

  319. what's going on guys where's your god

  320. and we can say the same thing with all

  321. the other gods out there you know they

  322. just don't exist

  323. they can't do anything

  324. but Elijah's god

  325. is real. They cried aloud. They cut

  326. themselves with swords and lances till

  327. the blood gushed out upon them. Pretty

  328. gruesome.

  329. Now come to pass at midday they

  330. prophesied until the time of the

  331. offering of the evening sacrifice. And

  332. there was neither voice nor any answer

  333. nor any that regarded

  334. embarrassment.

  335. And Elijah says, it turns now here in

  336. verse 30, "Come near to me."

  337. All the people came near to him and he

  338. repaired the altar of the Lord that was

  339. broken down.

  340. And Elijah took 12 stones according to

  341. the numbers of the tribes of the son of

  342. Jacob. And God is, you know, he's not

  343. just a god, just a single god for for

  344. Elijah, you know, he's a he's a God for

  345. multiple people.

  346. Even the Jews, all 12 tribes, God had

  347. made promise to.

  348. They put the wood in order. He cut the

  349. bulock into pieces. He laid it on the

  350. wood. And he said, "Fill four barrels

  351. with water. Pour it on the burnt

  352. sacrifice in the wood." Again, there's

  353. there's humor in the Bible.

  354. And he said, "Do it the second time."

  355. They did it the second time. And he

  356. said, "Do it the third time." They did

  357. it the third time. And the water ran

  358. down about the altar, and it filled the

  359. trenches also

  360. with water.

  361. And it came to pass at the time of the

  362. evening sacrifice, Elijah the prophet

  363. came near and said, "Lord God of

  364. Abraham,

  365. that's who God is. That's who our God

  366. is." You know, he's not some unknown god

  367. like the Athens thought, the Athenians

  368. thought with Paul in Acts 17. No, we

  369. know our God. Our God knows us. You

  370. know, that's what we can tell the Jews

  371. when we meet him. We got the same God.

  372. We

  373. uh believe in the God of Abraham.

  374. That's who we believe in.

  375. And the God of Israel, Isaac and Israel,

  376. that's what Elijah says. Let it be known

  377. this day that our God in Israel and that

  378. I am his servant.

  379. You know, God has servant.

  380. And here Elijah is one of them. And I

  381. have done all these things according to

  382. God's word. So there's where we got that

  383. separates us from everybody else. We had

  384. the correct God. We listen to the right

  385. God. We listen to the God of Abraham, of

  386. Isaac, and Jacob and David.

  387. and you know, right on into Paul and

  388. Peter and these these fellows. So, you

  389. know, Israel is where God has revealed

  390. himself to this great nation to these

  391. great people. And now God has grafted us

  392. Gentiles in by faith. So, we're saved

  393. like Abraham was saved. We're saved by

  394. faith. We want to hear the Lord. What

  395. does he say? He said from his word, you

  396. know, you're the Lord God. You know, you

  397. have uh you turned their hearts back

  398. again. And then the fire of the Lord

  399. fell and consumed the burnt sacrifice,

  400. the wood and the stone and the dust. And

  401. here's some more humor. Licked up the

  402. water that was in the trench.

  403. When all the people saw it, they fell on

  404. their face and said, "The Lord, he is

  405. God. The Lord is God." You know, so here

  406. God is, you know, this is the God that

  407. we worship. This is the God that we

  408. serve. You know, the one that's been

  409. revealing himself all the way through

  410. the Old Testament and the nation of

  411. Israel and the people of Israel. And

  412. now, you know, this same God has a has a

  413. church made up of us Gentiles.

  414. So, you know, we serve this God.

  415. And uh Elijah talks about these things

  416. here and you guys know the rest of of

  417. the story. Now turn to the New Testament

  418. to the Gospel of John chapter 5.

    John 5 chapter mention

  419. So God, he revealed himself to Moses in

  420. a burning bush and yet the bush was not

  421. consumed as a fire.

  422. And God is holy. God is just. God is

  423. good. All these great things. And here

  424. in John

    John 5 chapter mention

  425. chapter 5,

  426. you know, God did not become a, you

  427. know, a a bush on the earth. You know,

  428. yeah, that was a temporary thing with

  429. Moses so Moses could learn, you know,

  430. all the Old Testament things, the

  431. Levites, the priesthood, the tabernacle,

  432. the temple, all these great things. God

  433. was showing the nation of Israel who he

  434. is.

  435. And then when Jesus come to earth, it it

  436. uh

  437. he did he did a very similar thing. And

  438. he says here in John chapter 5

    John 5 chapter mention

  439. and in verse 23

  440. that all men,

  441. this is Jesus speaking,

  442. not just Jews.

  443. Jesus says all men,

  444. he uses that all all in the at the end

  445. of the gospel of Matthew, go to all the

  446. world and preach the gospel.

  447. And here we see him again saying,

  448. "Oh, that all men

  449. should honor the Son even as they have

  450. honored the Father. And he that honors

  451. not the Son honors not the Father whom

  452. he has sent." There's that procession

  453. where the father sent the son, you know.

  454. So all the way back there in Isaiah

    Isaiah 6 chapter mention

  455. chapter 6 when when uh we heard holy

  456. holy holy

  457. you know from the trinity. One of those

  458. was the holy son of god the sinless son

  459. of god. And now Jesus in a greater way

  460. than what the old testament prophets

  461. pointed to god. Jesus is doing in a far

  462. greater superior way.

  463. And you know Jesus volunteered to come

  464. to this earth.

  465. He was not forced by God the father

  466. through God the holy spirit. That's what

  467. Isaiah 6 says. Jesus said here am I send

  468. me volunteered

  469. to come. So here he is to represent the

  470. father, represent the trinity, represent

  471. the godhead. You know this is um you

  472. know this is more than the burning bush.

  473. This is more than the temple. This is

  474. more than the tabernacle. This is more

  475. than Elijah uh before the the prophets

  476. of Baal on uh Mount Carmel.

  477. So now we have a person. Now we have a

  478. man and that man is Jesus Christ

  479. and he's come to reveal to us and to

  480. talk to us and to tell us about his

  481. father.

  482. So we have just incredible evidence in

  483. the word of God for these things.

  484. You know this the deity of Christ is I

  485. mean it's no it's a no-brainer

  486. because we've been studying the Godhead

  487. God the Father, God the Spirit, and God

  488. the Son. And now God the Son is upon the

  489. earth here

  490. to do the Father's will. So we have a

  491. great evidence here in him and he he

  492. brings revelation to us,

  493. you know, as greater than the Old

  494. Testament. That's what the book of

  495. Hebrews says. So we have God the Son

  496. here and and all of his divine

  497. attributes.

  498. You know, Jesus started out way back

  499. there, didn't he? He was with the

  500. father. He's eternal like the father.

  501. He's eternal like the spirit.

  502. and and um he talked about that glory in

  503. John and his 17 with his great high

  504. priestly prayer. He talked about that

  505. glory and he was there at Mount

  506. at the

  507. Mount Carmel when Elijah

  508. and the fire came forth

  509. and how but how do we know we've got the

  510. right one?

  511. You know, there have been many people

  512. say they were a messiah. There have been

  513. many people say they were a good

  514. prophet, a good teacher. There have been

  515. many come and go. So, how do we know

  516. that we've got the right one?

  517. Well, that was settled by John the

  518. Baptist. Remember,

  519. he said, "Are you the prophet or are you

  520. the one the prophet spoke of? Are you

  521. the son of God? Are you the one that was

  522. supposed to come?" And John's in prison.

  523. You know, it's not looking like a

  524. kingdom.

  525. But Jesus said, "Yeah, I'm the one. You

  526. You guys haven't missed me." And and

  527. that's what John chapter 5, the rest of

    John 5 chapter mention

  528. John chapter 5 is all about is just the

    John 5 chapter mention

  529. witness to Jesus.

  530. So we don't have the wrong one. You

  531. know, we're not following the wrong

  532. redeemer. We're not following the wrong

  533. savior. We're not following the wrong

  534. person.

  535. We're following the right one.

  536. In fact, we have it from Jesus lips own

  537. lips here. You want to honor the father,

  538. honor me,

  539. then my father will honor you. So, it's

  540. narrowed down to this one person. We

  541. don't have to look for others. We don't

  542. have to look for multiple,

  543. you know, saviors or redeemers. One for

  544. Israel and one for the Gentiles or or

  545. one for the last century and now we need

  546. a new one.

  547. No, Jesus died for the sins of the whole

  548. world. We have the right one.

  549. He talks about that his his baptism

  550. there at the end of of John chapter 5.

    John 5 chapter mention

  551. We already read these verses. We're

  552. we're familiar with them. We have the

  553. witness of John the Baptist there in

  554. verse 33. We have the witness of Jesus

  555. work here in verse 36. That's what we're

  556. talking about now.

  557. You know, he came and he said, "I am the

  558. son of God and he proved it through

  559. everything that he did." He says, "Here,

  560. I have a greater witness than that that

  561. of John." John's a pretty good one, but

  562. you know, Jesus the life for the works

  563. which I do, you know, are the father has

  564. given me to finish.

  565. And you know, there was a there was a

  566. dedication of Jesus. You know, the

  567. priests were dedicated. They didn't do

  568. anything else. You know, they they

  569. served God 24/7, 365.

  570. Jesus did that. You know, you look at

  571. him and you know, he's sometimes said

  572. things that were rather short and to the

  573. point, but you couldn't divert him from

  574. his father's will. When it come to his

  575. father's will, he was a he was a

  576. workaholic.

  577. And he said, "The same work that I do."

  578. So we see him doing this work that the

  579. father gave him to do. They bear witness

  580. of me that the father has sent me. So

  581. John the Baptist said it's him. Jesus

  582. own life said it's him. And then he has

  583. the father's witness here in verse 37

  584. that came from heaven.

  585. You know why did Jesus get water

  586. baptized? To please his father. That's

  587. what he said.

  588. And he references that here. And then he

  589. gives us the fourth one.

  590. Search the scriptures.

  591. For in them you think you have life.

  592. They testify of me. So every verse in

  593. the Bible talks about Jesus. Testifies

  594. to us that he's the right one. He's the

  595. real one. You know, we don't have the

  596. wrong Messiah. We don't have the wrong

  597. redeemer. We don't have the wrong

  598. religion.

  599. Everybody else does, but not us. And

  600. it's not anything we've done or figured

  601. out on our own. We're not smarter than

  602. other people. We just

  603. study the word of God. And here where

  604. God reveals himself

  605. to us.

  606. And Jesus is indeed the way, the truth,

  607. and the life. No man is going to come to

  608. the father but by him. He said that, not

  609. me.

  610. So that's the only way to the father.

  611. This holy god who's we see consuming a

  612. consuming fire in the old testament and

  613. a consuming fire in the new testament as

  614. well. You know god is a consuming fire.

  615. He's holy. He's just but he is good.

  616. He's kind. He's longsuffering.

  617. He's full of love and grace and mercy.

  618. And that's what John says. Turn back to

  619. chapter one

  620. here. John talks about his witness, you

  621. know, and that's what these men did.

  622. They walked with Jesus for three and a

  623. half years and they said, "Yeah, I can

  624. tell you all about him. He's God."

  625. And John the Baptist, you know, he

  626. experienced that the I'm the sinner.

  627. You're the sinless one. you come to me

  628. to be baptized.

  629. Jesus said, "Yeah, let it happen."

  630. And Jesus came and he the fullness uh in

  631. verse 16,

  632. "And of his fullness have we received

  633. grace for grace."

  634. So, it's just incredible what this verse

  635. says.

  636. God has grace for every person that was

  637. ever born because of his son.

  638. That didn't happen with the law. People

  639. got stoned for breaking the law. We had

  640. to offer the the Jews had to offer

  641. sacrifice, sin, and trespass offerings

  642. because they broke the law of God.

  643. Problem is not the law. Paul said the

  644. problem is with us and that's our sin.

  645. The law came by Moses.

  646. Boy, did the Jews hang on to that. You

  647. know, they they wanted to judge

  648. everybody with their own little rule

  649. book. Jesus didn't come with a rule

  650. book. He come filled with grace and

  651. truth.

  652. Grace and truth.

  653. He's full of them. He's full of grace up

  654. there in verse 16. And then he says

  655. this, "No man has seen God at any time."

  656. Wait a minute. I thought we saw God in

  657. the Old Testament in the burning bush in

  658. the in the priesthood in the in the

  659. tabernacle in the and then and then the

  660. temple.

  661. But those were just glimpses. Those were

  662. just, you know, God was saying, you

  663. know, here my presence is holy and my

  664. presence is like a fire.

  665. But here comes Jesus to the earth full

  666. of grace and truth. And no man has seen

  667. God at only time at any time. The only

  668. begotten son who is in the bosom of the

  669. father has declared him. So Jesus comes

  670. to declare God

  671. to us.

  672. And not only declare who God is, but

  673. he's filled with grace and truth. What a

  674. what a package.

  675. God gave us his son.

  676. And John says it's him. Little lowly

  677. Jesus. He was born in Bethlehem. He grew

  678. up in Nazareth.

  679. He's one about being doing good and

  680. being kind to sinners and become the

  681. friend of sinners. And you know this is

  682. what the Old Testament told us was going

  683. to happen. And John said, "I'm not

  684. Jesus. Don't follow me.

  685. Follow him." And they said, "What then?

  686. Are you Elijah?"

  687. Remember Mount Carmel? Elijah was a very

  688. good prophet. No.

  689. No. Neither is he or am I Elijah.

  690. And then they said, well then who are

  691. you? And they answered and said,

  692. uh, what you say to yourself?

  693. You know, people want to talk about

  694. everything but Jesus.

  695. You know, oh, you you know, you go to

  696. church, don't you? You're a good person,

  697. aren't you?

  698. Yeah. Yeah. But let's get down to who

  699. Jesus is. That's the important part.

  700. We need a savior. We need a redeemer.

  701. And he's the one. And John didn't get

  702. sidetracked with these things. He just

  703. said, "I'm the voice of one cry in the

  704. wilderness. Make straight the way of the

  705. Lord as a prophet Isaiah said." And the

  706. Lord is here. John says he's here to

  707. um to teach us

  708. and tell us about his father. In fact,

  709. from Genesis to Revelation, this whole

  710. book, Hebrews says it's written about

  711. him.

  712. And as amazing as it it is, you know,

  713. God became a man. He pulled us off. A

  714. sinless, holy, just man.

  715. And you know, this is the good news. You

  716. know, we're not under the law. Thank God

  717. we're not under the law. We can't keep

  718. it. We We'd all die and perish. But God

  719. has sent a greater way, a better way.

  720. That's his son.

  721. He talks about in verse 29,

  722. the next day John seeth Jesus coming to

  723. him. John knows who he is. He's not

  724. mixed up.

  725. He says, "Behold,

  726. you know, there's all these of gods in

  727. the Bible." You know, I it really helped

  728. me with my Bible study when I started

  729. seeing all these of God. When something

  730. is of God, it came from God. It came

  731. from the lap of God.

  732. And that's what this says. Behold, the

  733. lamb of God takes away the sin of the

  734. world. From the lap of God comes the

  735. lamb, the spotless, holy, sinless lamb

  736. of God.

  737. For what purpose, you know, they've yet

  738. to see. You know, that's what the

  739. apostles struggled with. Wait a minute.

  740. You're not going to the cross,

  741. you know, and and Jesus said, "Get

  742. behind me, Satan."

  743. But

  744. Jesus eventually went, didn't he? And he

  745. volunteered.

  746. So

  747. this is what the apostles taught us. You

  748. know, we have John the Baptist with

  749. incredible testimony and pointing at

  750. Jesus. We have the Apostle John,

  751. incredible witness and testimony,

  752. pointing us to Jesus. And that's what

  753. these men did after they lived with him

  754. for three and a half years. Mary Mary

  755. lived with him much longer.

  756. But these men and then look at verse 34.

  757. Now I saw and bore witness.

  758. This

  759. is there's that word son of God. He's of

  760. God. He's the son of God. He's the only

  761. begotten son of God. The only son.

  762. And you know, he he is God. You know, he

  763. proves it. And as we look at his life,

  764. we're going to see him prove it. You

  765. know, he he proved it in so many ways.

  766. That's what he says in John five. You

  767. got my life. You know, point to my life

  768. where I didn't witness of the father.

  769. Point to my life where I I made a

  770. mistake. Where I had a fault.

  771. you know the workaholic Jesus fulfilled

  772. everything his father gave him to do. So

  773. he's truly God. You know Jesus said

  774. verily you know many times

  775. and you know the apostles some of them

  776. used that word but it meant truly you

  777. know truly truly you know it's like our

  778. amen you know you can't say something

  779. better and many times Jesus said truly

  780. truly and many times Jesus said truly

  781. truly I am the son of God

  782. there is no other it's

  783. So he is truly God. He is truly man

  784. and he is truly the God man and he has

  785. upon him the flesh of Adam

  786. that he got from Mary

  787. that he got from Adam. So he's not a a

  788. just a spirit being. He said that in

  789. Luke. I'm you know I'm real spirit you

  790. can't see. The spirit you can't touch.

  791. Touch me and see. I'm flesh.

  792. So the God man is 100% God. 100% man.

  793. You say that's 200%. Well, only God can

  794. accomplish these things.

  795. And he is the one we follow. He is the

  796. one who died for our sins. As John says

  797. here, behold the lamb of God who takes

  798. away the sin of the world.

  799. So the perfect Jesus

  800. has people who were around him and with

  801. him and saw him live who as well said

  802. there's no sin in him nowhere.

  803. So don't be like doubting Thomas and say

  804. unless I see his hands I'm not going to

  805. believe. Now, be be like the believing

  806. Thomas and say, "My Lord and my God."

  807. Turn over to Philippians chapter 2.

    Philippians 2 chapter mention

  808. You know, this this didn't go away.

  809. People not believing in Jesus.

  810. You know, it continues today.

  811. And you know, everyone is in unbelief.

  812. and they're in unbelief because they

  813. won't listen to the word of God,

  814. you know, that God might shine unto

  815. them, you know, they might be born again

  816. because, you know, Jesus is the light of

  817. the world. The word of God is the light

  818. that he gave us, you know, and men loves

  819. darkness rather than light. But those

  820. who love light, we're here because we

  821. love the light. We want to we want to

  822. know him, know him better.

  823. And here's the only way is through his

  824. written word.

  825. So, you know,

  826. I'm willing to put it all on him.

  827. You know,

  828. guys at work say, "Well, don't you know,

  829. don't put all your eggs in one basket."

  830. That's what a lot my guys will tell me,

  831. customers will tell me a lot of times.

  832. I'm trying to get more of their

  833. business. I can't put all of my eggs in

  834. one basket. Well, finally I come up with

  835. a line for him. And I said, 'You can if

  836. it's the right basket.

  837. And so it is with Jesus.

  838. You know, we can forget all the others.

  839. He's the one. We can put all our eggs in

  840. one basket, you know. So, I'm ready to

  841. die. You guys can have my funeral

  842. tomorrow. I'm going to heaven. I've got

  843. everything staked on him and what he's

  844. done and who he is. Like Paul did, like

  845. Peter did, like Moses did, like David

  846. did, like all these men in the word of

  847. God. This God of Israel

  848. has revealed himself to us.

  849. And it's him in whom we believe.

  850. And here in Philippians chapter 2,

    Philippians 2 chapter mention

  851. you're familiar with this.

  852. Who being in the form of God

  853. thought it not robbery to be equal with

  854. God? Well, that if Jesus wasn't God,

  855. that that would be blasphemy to say

  856. that.

  857. And that's what the Jews crucified him

  858. for. Oh, you said you're God. Yeah, I

  859. did. Jesus said, I did. I did numerous

  860. times.

  861. And that was why the Jews arrested him.

  862. But here, Philippians says he's equal to

  863. God. He is God.

  864. There can't be anything less in in in

  865. the Father and the Son and the Holy

  866. Spirit than there are God. That all

  867. three of them are God and the Godhead.

  868. So Jesus has come to earth

  869. as a man.

  870. And and Paul tells us here what he did

  871. sounds like what Jesus said in John

    John 5 chapter mention

  872. chapter 5. You got my life. You know I

  873. look what you find any fault in me and

  874. what I said what I did what I told you

  875. zero crickets.

  876. And the man himself of no reputation

  877. took upon him the form of of a servant

  878. and was made in the likeness of men. You

  879. know, that's what people missed

  880. was he, oh, servant. We thought he was

  881. going to be a king. We thought he was

  882. going to be royalty. We thought he was

  883. going to rule and reign on the earth.

  884. No, the earth belongs to the devil

  885. and to unsaved men. God lets them run

  886. that. Jesus said, "I've got nothing to

  887. do with this world. My kingdom is not of

  888. this world."

  889. He has a greater kingdom.

  890. and he was made in the likeness of men.

  891. So this this is just an incredible depth

  892. of theology here that the holy, just

  893. perfect God become a man without sinning

  894. and being found and fashioned as a man,

  895. he humbled himself, became obedient unto

  896. death. There's a he he was a workaholic

  897. in this one to to do the father's will

  898. in three and a half years he did that

  899. and then he died on the cross.

  900. Oh, you know that that's that's a

  901. shame to a lot of people. That's a

  902. scandal to a lot of people. That's what

  903. the you know the word scandalon means.

  904. God died for my sins. That's a scandal.

  905. Well, it's a true one.

  906. And God has highly exalted him. God was

  907. well pleased. He had to look past the

  908. grave. You have to look past his life.

  909. You have to look past the cross to to

  910. where he is now and who he is now. He's

  911. taken back over the universe.

  912. It belongs to him and every name.

  913. Buddha, Muhammad,

  914. uh, Confucious,

  915. everyone you can think of, they're going

  916. to bow the knee to this one man,

  917. Jesus Christ. And every tongue will

  918. confess that he is Lord to the glory of

  919. the father, his his wonderful, wonderful

  920. father.

  921. Mr. Warfield said about this section.

  922. He is declared in the most expressed

  923. manner possible to be all that God is

  924. and to possess the whole fullness of God

  925. and all the attributes that make God God

  926. are in Jesus and it's one person.

  927. You know, that's why Paul says in 1

  928. Timothy, go to 1 Timothy chapter 3,

    1 Timothy 3 chapter mention

  929. 1 Timothy

    1 Timothy 3 chapter mention

  930. chapter 3

  931. and verse 16. You know, this is from the

  932. men who knew him best. This isn't

  933. hearsay.

  934. This is from the men who listened to

  935. him, were taught by him.

  936. They heard his voice.

  937. And Paul says here,

  938. that's what the church is for. That's

  939. why we're here.

  940. There's only one place God reveals

  941. himself, and it's through his word and

  942. through his church, through his

  943. servants, like Elijah

  944. and like Paul.

  945. And without controversy,

  946. great is the mystery of godliness. This

  947. is the greatest thing ever. This is the

  948. the best mystery ever. God was manifest

  949. in the flesh,

  950. justified in the spirit,

  951. seen of angels,

  952. and preached unto the nations who

  953. believed on in the world, received up

  954. the glory. This is where we come in

  955. 2,000 years later.

  956. The apostles were the ones that that you

  957. know started these things. Turn over to

  958. Ephesians chapter 3.

    Ephesians 3 chapter mention

  959. Ephesians 3. You know, Paul says there

  960. about talks about the foundation and the

  961. apostles are the guys that saw Jesus.

  962. You know, yeah, he's the right one.

  963. Follow him.

  964. And Jesus said he's going to go to

  965. heaven and greater works these men were

  966. going to do and and we were going to do.

  967. That's what we're doing. These are

  968. greater works here.

  969. And in chapter 3 and verse 6,

  970. this is a gentile church,

  971. you know, and I guess that would be the

  972. argument.

  973. Oh, I'm not interested in your Jewish

  974. God.

  975. Oh, yes, you can be.

  976. You've been grafted in.

  977. There's one savior, one redeemer, one

  978. lord

  979. of the Jew and the Gentile.

  980. Now we're fellow hes. We've been grafted

  981. in. I'm I'm way ahead of the Jews now

  982. who have not believed. They're going to

  983. a different place. But the Gentiles who

  984. believe, we've been made royalty

  985. by the God man, Jesus Christ. Now we're

  986. a part of his glory.

  987. You know, we're going to be with him in

  988. heaven.

  989. And you know, the angels are going to

  990. worship him because of us. We're going

  991. to worship him because of us. He did it

  992. all.

  993. Partakers of the promises.

  994. Not the law, not our efforts, not our

  995. merit,

  996. but the promise in Christ

  997. by the gospel. The only way to come to

  998. Christ is through his promises of the

  999. gospel. And Paul says, "I was made a

  1000. minister, a servant,

1001. you know, just like Jesus. Jesus is a

1002. servant. You think we're better than

  1003. him?"

  1004. Paul says, "That's that's what I am. I'm

1005. a servant to him, to God." Jesus called

  1006. me

1007. according to the gift of the grace of

1008. God. That's what this is all about. not

1009. not merit, not not you know any good in

1010. us. This is all about the gift of God

1011. and the grace of God that's given to us

1012. uh because of what Jesus has done.

1013. Now that consuming fire in heaven, it

1014. will consume us no more.

1015. Now we have a way and it's through the

  1016. obedience that Jesus had

  1017. to his father.

1018. Now it says unto me I'm least least of

1019. all the saints. Then it just keeps

1020. going. God God picks people that nobody

1021. else will pick. You know just so

1022. everyone will have to say God must be

  1023. doing something.

1024. And so it was with Paul and Peter and

1025. those fishermen. Remember those old

  1026. snobby Pharisees?

1027. Peter, you those men have been with

  1028. Jesus.

1029. That's the greatest thing we can do.

1030. and to make all men see what is the

1031. fellowship of this mystery. This that's

1032. this mystery Paul's talking about. God

1033. became a man. God paid for our sins. God

1034. is our redeemer. God is our savior.

1035. He's the one we rest in.

1036. And these things are hidden in God who

1037. created all things by Jesus Christ. He

1038. was way back there. The eternal son of

  1039. God.

1040. and then to the intent. Now, that's

1041. Paul's point. You know, now what's going

1042. on? Is this still a part of God's plan?

1043. Yes, the church is, you know, the

1044. Gentiles coming in through the gospel of

1045. Christ and being grafted in us Gentiles

1046. and and God has poured out his mercy and

1047. grace upon us Gentiles, you know, who

1048. the Jews would pass on the street and go

  1049. on the other side.

  1050. unclean unclean

1051. don't call anything unclean that God has

  1052. made holy

1053. to the intent now principalities and

1054. powers let the devils know let the

1055. fallen angels know the grace of God is

1056. upon the earth and he's pouring out his

1057. mercy and his grace upon Gentiles

1058. through his word and through his church

1059. which we power and we can have boldness

  1060. and come.

1061. And then Paul says down in verse 15, the

1062. whole family in heaven and earth his

1063. name one group. God wants us to be one

  1064. like he is one

  1065. and

1066. that Christ may dwell in your hearts by

1067. faith. But now we have Christ indwelling

1068. us through faith because of these

1069. things. Being rooted and grounded in

1070. love. It's not just theology.

1071. You know, we need to have the correct

1072. theology, but we as well need love.

1073. Being rooted and grounded in love may be

1074. able to comprehend with all saints will

  1075. the breadth, the height

1076. that we may know the love of Christ with

1077. passes knowledge. That's how we get it.

1078. that we might be filled with all the

1079. fullness of God. We We're missing out on

  1080. nothing

1081. because of what Christ has done. It's

1082. all in him. So, we can surrender to him

1083. and follow him. And we have the right

1084. person. He's made himself known to us

1085. through his word. He's made himself

1086. known to us through the Holy Spirit.

1087. That's the spirit's ministry to come and

1088. to show us Christ out of these pages

  1089. from his word.

1090. Let's close in a word of prayer.

1091. Father, we thank you this morning for

  1092. your son.

1093. And Father, we see in the Old Testament

1094. the holiness of God, the fire of God,

1095. and our sinfulness. And we thank you

1096. that as the psalms say that mercy and

1097. truth have kissed one another

1098. and you kissed one another in your son

1099. and we thank you for him

1100. for what he said what he has done what

1101. he has told us the promises he gave.

1102. Come unto me all ye that labor and are

1103. heavy laden and I will give you rest

1104. and you will find rest unto your souls.

1105. We come to you Lord Jesus. There is no

1106. other savior. There is no other

1107. redeemer. There is no other god but you.

1108. Every knee will bow. Every tongue will

  1109. confess.

1110. And we thank you for the light that you

1111. have shown into our own lives. And we

1112. pray it in your name. Amen.

1113. Lord, as we go from this place,

  1114. loving you more,

  1115. trusting you more.

1116. May the power of your love and the light

1117. of your word shine to a sin darkened

1118. world. As we go from this place,
