  1. a little better. Since last week,

  2. we've been going through a series on

  3. the sound doctrines of the word of God.

  4. That's what the church is to be built

  5. on. Church is the pillar and the ground

  6. of the truth. Those are all things that

  7. you know.

  8. So, we've been looking at the importance

  9. of the word of God

  10. and that's how God communicates with us.

  11. We don't need any other way. Not that we

  12. can't listen to other commentators and

  13. other people,

  14. but the truth is found in God's word.

  15. That's what we want to stand on.

  16. So, we've been looking at the Godhead.

  17. I think it's important when we as a new

  18. Christian or even as an older Christian

  19. that we stop and look at our God, who he

  20. is and what his word says that he is. I

  21. mean, that that causes us to worship him

  22. and praise him and thank him.

  23. So, we've been looking at the Godhead,

  24. God the Father, and God the Son and God

  25. the Holy Spirit. And we have been

  26. recently upon the Son of God upon upon

  27. the Lord Jesus Christ. So, turn with me

  28. to the book of Matthew in chapter 1.

  29. And this morning, uh, the message is on

  30. the names

  31. of Jesus.

  32. And you're going to see he had several.

  33. So this is why it's important for us to

  34. study God because that that we benefit

  35. just from studying God. That's how great

  36. he is.

  37. And Jesus is the best example there ever

  38. was. But he's more than an example. He's

  39. the greatest teacher that ever was. But

  40. he's more than a teacher. He's the

  41. greatest redeemer there ever was. But

  42. he's more than a redeemer. He's our

  43. mediator as well.

  44. So looking at Jesus in depth, I think is

  45. going to benefit me and hopefully

  46. benefit you as we look at these uh names

  47. for Jesus.

  48. And we have several right here together.

  49. And I know some of these we looked at in

  50. the incarnation, but we have a different

  51. reason to look at them today with the

  52. names of Jesus. And you're going to see

  53. it when you come to a verse and you're

  54. thinking a particular way with a

  55. particular subject. There's truth there.

  56. And then you know five minutes later or

  57. five months later you're coming back and

  58. there's still truth here. So that's the

  59. great thing about the word of God. It's

  60. living and is able to do what God wants

  61. us to do in our lives.

  62. So I'm up for 63 names for Jesus.

  63. I I think when I get back from my

  64. vacation, I'm going to be be gone on

  65. vacation. So, pray for I may have a few

  66. more, but I'm up to 63 names

  67. for the Lord Jesus Christ. Now, if you

  68. can remember when we went through the um

  69. doctrines of the Holy Spirit, there were

  70. 26 names that we could find on Holy

  71. Spirit.

  72. So Jesus has more than double the names

  73. of the Holy Spirit.

  74. So that's what the spirit says. He's

  75. going to guide us into truth and Jesus

  76. is the truth, you know. So so uh the

  77. godhead is not in any kind of

  78. competition with each other. They're

  79. co-equal in every way, in every aspect.

  80. They love each other and they love us.

  81. That's the great thing about our God.

  82. So, we begin here in Matthew chapter 1

    Matthew 1 chapter mention

  83. this morning

  84. and verse 21

  85. is one you're familiar with and we've

  86. looked at uh about the incarnation, the

  87. different things here

  88. that we've looked at already concerning

  89. Jesus. But in verse 21 here,

  90. and she shall bring forth a son,

  91. and notice it's a small s there,

  92. but humanly speaking, a son, Mary.

  93. That's why, you know, God come to Mary,

  94. the Virgin Mary, and and the embryo. We

  95. saw the Holy Spirit

  96. um producing the embryo that was none

  97. other than the person of Jesus Christ.

  98. And you know Jesus throughout his life

  99. constantly proved that he is the son of

  100. God.

  101. So the names that he have has is going

  102. to help us here. So we have a a human

  103. name. He's a son and you will call his

  104. name Jesus.

  105. So he literally was called Jesus and he

  106. was called Jesus for this very reason.

  107. So he had human names and one of them he

  108. was a human son to Mary. One of them

  109. he's is he is Jesus. Well what does that

  110. mean? Well Jesus means the it means the

  111. uh old testament we have that word

  112. Joshua. We have the book of Joshua

  113. and uh it means Jehovah is salvation

  114. is what that means. Well, the Greek name

  115. for that is Jesus.

  116. So the name Jesus very name means he is

  117. the savior. He's going to save us from

  118. our sins. That's what it says. He going

  119. to save his people from their sins. So

  120. right away we see he's the son. We see

  121. he's Jesus. We see he's the uh the

  122. savior and and this is all just here in

  123. one verse.

  124. He's going to save us from our sins. And

  125. now look down in verse 23.

  126. And the the virgin shall be with child

  127. shall bring forth a son and you will

  128. call his name Emmanuel.

  129. You know, well that you know that wasn't

  130. his middle name. He didn't go around as

  131. Jesus, Emmanuel, you know, the son of

  132. Joseph and Mary, but he this word is

  133. telling us what actually he did. He is

  134. God

  135. and he became a man. So we have we have

  136. God coming to us and that's what it

  137. says. God is with us. So Jesus is God

  138. and he is God with us here in verse 23.

  139. Now, if you look over in verse 18,

  140. he says here, "The birth

  141. of Jesus Christ." There's his last name,

  142. Christ.

  143. So, he is that means something. It means

  144. that he's the anointed one. That's the

  145. Old Testament word for Messiah.

  146. So, they're they're the same thing.

  147. Messiah and Christ are the same word.

  148. He's the anointed one.

  149. And when his mother Mary was in spouse

  150. of Joseph, they came together and she

  151. was found a child of the Holy Spirit. So

  152. we see here that he is the Christ. He's

  153. the anointed one. He's the He's the

  154. Messiah.

  155. So here in Matthew 1 are several just in

  156. a couple verses. Well, turn back to

  157. chapter uh one and verse one.

  158. Matthew 1. Matthew's the the gospel of

  159. the king Christ.

  160. So Matthew gives us a lot of names for

  161. Jesus. And here are two more in one

  162. verse in the book the genealogy of Jesus

  163. Christ. He's the son of David. He's the

  164. son of Abraham. So there's two more of

  165. his human names. He is the son of David.

  166. He is the son of Abraham.

  167. Well, if you've been part of Sunday

  168. school, you might not know the answer to

  169. this question, but I'll throw it out

  170. there anyway. What was Jesus favorite

  171. name that he called himself?

  172. >> The son of man.

  173. >> The Son of Man. You're right, John.

  174. Turn to Matthew chapter 16.

    Matthew 16 chapter mention

  175. So when we look at him, you know, before

  176. he was born, he's the son of God. He's a

  177. he's the son the father gave. And when

  178. he come to earth and he was born a man,

  179. become Mary's son, now he's a he's the

  180. son of man.

  181. So that's what he's telling everybody.

  182. He's the son of man. And the Jews should

  183. have known this. I mean, you know, it's

  184. like Messiah and Christ. If we say

  185. somebody's a Messiah, we should know

  186. what that means. If we say somebody is

  187. Christ, we should know what that means.

  188. The Jews were the same way with the son

  189. of man. They should have known what that

  190. meant. We're going to see that in some

  191. of these. And in Matthew 16

  192. and verse 28

  193. here he says, "Verily I say unto you,

  194. there are some standing here who shall

  195. not uh taste of death till they have

  196. seen the son of man coming in his

  197. kingdom." So here he's got a kingdom.

  198. He's a king. The son of man is a king as

  199. well.

  200. So you know what Jesus called himself

  201. and what he said about himself you know

  202. it's very uh you know it it helps us

  203. understand him and his mission. I'll

  204. turn over to Mark

    Mark 11 chapter mention

  205. chapter 11.

  206. Mark

    Mark 11 chapter mention

  207. chapter 11

  208. and here in verse three

  209. he here he says and if any man say to

  210. you why are you uh doing this this is

  211. when the he borrows a donkey this just

  212. amazes me

  213. Jesus took the time to do this and and

  214. to borrow a donkey he didn't pull some

  215. money out of the fish mouth like he paid

  216. his taxes to buy a donkey, he just

  217. borrows one.

  218. And here he says

  219. what he is in verse three. If any man

  220. say unto you, why do you do this?

  221. Say to them, the Lord has need of him.

  222. So here we see Jesus himself

  223. calling himself

  224. Lord.

  225. Now let's go to Luke

  226. 22.

  227. in verse 69

  228. Luke 22:69

    Luke 22:69

  229. we you probably hear it I hear it from

  230. people well Jesus didn't say he was God

  231. or Jesus isn't God you know he's the

  232. brother to the devil I mean that's what

  233. these cult some of these cults are

  234. telling people they're so misinformed

  235. just read your Bible

  236. you're going to see these things. You

  237. know, look what Jesus said about

  238. himself, what he called himself, what he

  239. said he was here to do. These are all

  240. such important things. And here in Luke

  241. 22

  242. and verse 69,

  243. here he says herein, the son of man will

  244. sit on the right hand of the power of

  245. God. So here he's calling himself the

  246. son of man. And here he's calling

  247. himself God,

  248. you know, not some lesser God. He's

  249. almighty God. That's what he says. The

  250. power of God, almighty God. So Jesus

  251. told the disciples, I, you know, I'm I'm

  252. from God. I am God. And I'm going to

  253. come out of the grave. I'm going to

  254. conquer sin. And not only do that,

  255. but uh he's going to come back to earth

  256. as a man. So here he called himself a

  257. man. Here he called himself a son of

  258. God. And here he calls himself almighty

  259. God.

  260. And uh look over in John chapter 8.

    John 8 chapter mention

  261. John chapter 8.

    John 8 chapter mention

  262. verse 40. John chapter 8

    John 8 chapter mention

  263. and verse 40.

  264. You know, he don't let anyone say Jesus

  265. never said he was a man. Don't let

  266. anyone say Jesus never said he was God.

  267. It come out of his own mouth.

  268. And here he tells the Pharisees.

  269. He says, "You seek to kill me." Well,

  270. how can you kill him unless he's a man?

  271. Well, they couldn't have killed him if

  272. they wanted to. You know, how many times

  273. did he get away from him because his

  274. hour was not yet come. But you can see

  275. here that their plot,

  276. he knows their plot. He knows what

  277. they're up to.

  278. And he says, "You're going to kill me. A

  279. man, I told you the truth. a man,

  280. the man, Christ Jesus, is the one who

  281. speaks the truth. And he says, "Which I

  282. have heard of God, this did not

  283. Abraham." So he says, "I've got a closer

  284. relationship with God than Abraham

  285. because I am God in the flesh." So very

  286. interesting things that Jesus said about

  287. himself. John the Baptist, he said,

  288. "Behold the man, you know, he John

  289. called him a man. Jesus called him a

  290. man. Um, look over in Matthew chapter

    Matthew 25 chapter mention

  291. 25.

  292. You know, this is what we need to

  293. remember.

  294. Matthew 25

  295. and verse 31.

  296. Here we see when the son of man shall

  297. come in his glory. So here he's telling

  298. them and telling us remember he said

  299. somebody here is not going to taste

  300. death until you see the son of God come

  301. in his glory

  302. and remember the transfiguration.

  303. You know Peter got to see it. Wow.

  304. There's Moses

  305. and there's Jesus and his glory.

  306. So this glory

  307. um he he had with his father. That's

  308. what John 17 says. And the father gave

  309. it to him. And then Jesus came and did

  310. the father's will accomplish great

  311. salvation for us. He went back to heaven

  312. and he's seated at the right hand of the

  313. father. And he's getting ready to come

  314. get up and come back. And here he's

  315. telling them that. And he here he still

  316. calls himself the son of man.

  317. So only God could pull this off.

  318. When the Son of Man shall come in his

  319. glory and all the holy angels with him,

  320. the ones that he made,

  321. Jesus is not a creature. He's the

  322. creator. That's what he's telling them

  323. here. Uh yeah, I'm a man, but I I was

  324. the one who created the angels back

  325. there in uh Job and Genesis. I'm the one

  326. that has the glory. No one made me. I'm

  327. eternal. I'm almighty God and he he owns

  328. every angel.

  329. And then shall he sit upon the throne

  330. of his glory. So Christ is a king

  331. and he's going to be the king over

  332. everything.

  333. As Peter said in Acts, he's lord of all.

  334. And indeed he is. He's going to return

  335. as a man and he's going to do these

  336. things. He's going to gather all the

  337. nations. He's going to separate one from

  338. another as a shepherd divides his sheep

  339. from the goats. He's going to divide

  340. them, the sheep on the right and the

  341. goats on the left. Then shall the king,

  342. he's a king,

  343. come be blessed by my father. So he's

  344. doing the father's will. He's inherited

  345. from the father this kingdom, this great

  346. kingdom of glory that was prepared

  347. before the foundation of the world.

  348. So this is not something this isn't plan

  349. B.

  350. Uh this is plan A. God does not need

  351. another plan. His is working perfectly

  352. and we're a part of it. We we are now

  353. believers in the son of man and the son

  354. of God having he accomplished our

  355. redemption.

  356. and turn to Acts chapter 17.

    Acts 17 chapter mention

  357. Acts chapter 17. When we see Jesus in

    Acts 17 chapter mention

  358. this way, you know, we see the complete

  359. Jesus. We not, you know, Paul said, you

  360. know, we celebrate Christmas, you know,

  361. and, you know, I think we should we

  362. should remember the incarnation. You

  363. know, we celebrate Easter and we should

  364. to remember the resurrection,

  365. but as well, Paul said, you know, we

  366. don't remember Jesus after the flesh

  367. anymore. We remember him as he is in

  368. Revelation chapter 1. We're going to go

    Revelation 1 chapter mention

  369. there in a minute.

  370. But the scripture elevates our

  371. understanding of who Jesus is and what

  372. he has done.

  373. You know, he's been been back there

  374. since before the foundation of the

  375. world.

  376. We certainly can trust him

  377. and he chose us as the word of God says.

  378. But Paul tells them here in Acts chapter

    Acts 17 chapter mention

  379. 17.

  380. So anywhere we go around the world, we

  381. can say we can tell people this. This

  382. isn't an American thing. You know, this

  383. isn't a Israel thing. The Bible says

  384. this man Jesus is going to judge the

  385. whole world. everyone

  386. whether you like it or not.

  387. That's why Peter said he is the Lord of

  388. all. And here Paul says in

  389. Acts chapter 17, should you preach when

    Acts 17 chapter mention

  390. you're alone? Paul did. That's your

  391. call.

  392. But things can get pretty hairy quick.

  393. I talked to a man that happened to this

  394. this last couple weeks. He was by

  395. himself and

  396. you know the persecution against Jesus

  397. is worldwide

  398. wherever you go

  399. because he's made these kind of

  400. statements and the devil knows it.

  401. But don't let anyone tell you Jesus is

  402. going to answer to anyone. The one he's

  403. going to answer to is his father and

  404. everybody else is going to answer to

  405. him. Every knee will bow, every tongue

  406. will confess. Wherever you live on this

  407. planet, know that.

  408. But here in Acts chapter 17,

    Acts 17 chapter mention

  409. you guys are there and I'm getting there

  410. because he has appointed a day. Remember

  411. Jesus said, you know, this all started

  412. before the foundation of the world. I

  413. was with the father. What we chose the

  414. elect. The elect have believed. You

  415. know, we have Israel, the nation. We

  416. have the church. Jesus is the head of

  417. the church. He's the, you know, he's the

  418. the head of every man as well.

  419. So don't look anywhere else. He's the

  420. way, the truth, and the life. No man can

  421. come to the father but by him.

  422. And that's what Paul tells the

  423. Athenians.

  424. Oh, wicked Gentiles. That's what we are.

  425. We don't even we don't even know a god.

  426. We make our own. The Jews have God. He

  427. He's chose them

  428. and through them God is saving the

  429. Gentiles. That's us.

  430. Wherever we go around the world, God uh

  431. he says in righteousness, this is so

  432. important,

  433. you know. Yeah. How we live matters,

  434. you know. How we present the gospel

  435. matters. How we teach matters. How we

  436. talk about God matters.

  437. It should be in righteousness

  438. by the man whom he has ordained

  439. concerning which he has given assurance

  440. unto all men that he raised him from the

  441. dead. So our assurance doesn't rest in

  442. us, it rests in him. You know, God

  443. raised him from the dead. You know, let

  444. every everyone know that at the name of

  445. Jesus, whosoever will may come.

  446. So that's who this man is.

  447. Remember in John chapter 20, let's go to

    John 20 chapter mention

  448. that one. It's close by. Two times here

  449. we see

  450. in after the appearance after the

  451. resurrection, people called Jesus God.

  452. You know, he didn't get on him before he

  453. died for calling him God. He didn't say,

  454. "Don't worship me. I'm not God." Like

  455. John did. with the angels.

  456. No, people worshiped Jesus from

  457. Bethlehem on

  458. he didn't become God. He is God.

  459. And here in John, the very people that

  460. were with him. You know, if Jesus was a

  461. fraud, these people would have figured

  462. him out. But they go totally the other

  463. way. He's not a fraud. He is the way,

  464. the truth, and the life.

  465. And here we have Mary Magdalene's

  466. appearance

  467. uh with Jesus in

  468. chapter 20

  469. verse 18. Touch me not. I'll start in

  470. 17. For I not yet ascended to my father.

  471. So you know the whole trinity is

  472. involved in our salvation. That's how

  473. that's how great this is. God the

  474. father, God the son, and God the holy

  475. spirit. They all play a part. And here

  476. touch me not. I've not ascended to my

  477. father Mary,

  478. but go to my brethren.

  479. He's calling us his brothers.

  480. He He's a friend of the sinners, by the

  481. way. Another name.

  482. Here he's our friend. Here he's their

  483. brother. Here he's the one who has risen

  484. from the dead. He didn't come to judge.

  485. He come to save.

  486. and I've yet to go to my father,

  487. to your father, to my God, and to your

  488. God. Jesus made us a family, a family of

  489. God, uh, under his umbrella, you know,

  490. we've got good coverage

  491. when you're in Jesus.

  492. And here in John chap

  493. 20 verse 28, we've looked at this one,

  494. but again remember what Thomas said, my

  495. Lord and my God. So people called him

  496. Lord and God on the earth before he ever

  497. ascended

  498. to heaven.

  499. Now turn to Revelation chapter 1.

    Revelation 1 chapter mention

  500. So now we see the Jesus. We see what he

  501. did on the earth. We see what he

  502. accomplished. We see who he is,

  503. you know, we see the work that he done.

  504. We see the apostles saying he's he's the

  505. Lord of all. Every knee will bow. Every

  506. nation needs to know this. Go into all

  507. the world and preach the gospel. And

  508. here in Revelation,

  509. we meet the new Jesus.

  510. He's not hanging on a cross. Sorry,

  511. Catholic Church.

  512. He's been there and done that.

  513. And and notice what he says

  514. in Revelation.

  515. He takes it up another notch.

  516. They couldn't handle it on earth. What?

  517. You're God?

  518. Yep. He's God. And now even John, he

  519. falls at his feet as dead. He's John

  520. spent more time with him than than all

  521. of us.

  522. And

  523. Jesus is now

  524. glorified.

  525. He's no longer hanging on the cross.

  526. He's no longer in the tomb, empty tomb.

  527. He's no longer walking around in

  528. Galilee. He's about to come back.

  529. And that's what John tells us what's

  530. going to happen because of not anything

  531. we've done, but because of everything

  532. that he has done.

  533. Our great high priest offered himself

  534. for our sins. And that's what he says

  535. here in verse eight.

  536. I am the alpha and the omega, the

  537. beginning and the ending. Well, there's

  538. there's some more names

  539. uh we can add and we can see a part of

  540. this is part of our 63

  541. sayeth the Lord there. John calls him

  542. Lord

  543. and and he here who he is. He is he was

  544. and he is to come. He's the almighty

  545. God. Who that little Jesus back there in

  546. Bethlehem? Remember when the wise men

  547. came and brought him gifts and worshiped

  548. him, they knew he was God then.

  549. And he goes on to say in verse 11, I am

  550. the alpha and the omega, the first and

  551. the last. So we don't forget that.

  552. You know, far back as you want to go,

  553. there's Jesus. As far forward as you

  554. want to go, there's Jesus. And Jesus all

  555. the way in the middle

  556. as well. He's done these things for us.

  557. As he tells John verse 17, fear not.

  558. I am the first and the last.

  559. I am he that lives. So Jesus is the

  560. living one. He's eternal. He in him is

  561. life.

  562. And he can give that life to us. That's

  563. eternal life.

  564. And the only way to receive it is by a

  565. gift from him through faith.

  566. And I was dead and behold, I am alive

  567. forever more. That's the way he wants us

  568. to remember him.

  569. Yes, the incarnation's great. The cross

  570. is great. The resurrection is great. The

  571. ascension is great. But he's eternal

  572. forever and ever.

  573. He has the keys of Hades and death.

  574. Remember I told you he was every knee

  575. would bow and every tongue would

  576. confess. Now he's telling John that here

  577. in the book of Revelation. He's the

  578. living one. He's Lord of all. He's

  579. almighty God.

  580. Um turn over to chapter 4

  581. of Revelation

  582. and verse eight.

  583. here. He's the worthy one. That's what

  584. worship is.

  585. You know, that's what we get. We see a

  586. we see a celebrity or an athlete,

  587. we're in awe of them because of what the

  588. talents they have and you know that

  589. that's you know that's the worth that

  590. they have in our own minds. Here the

  591. Lord Jesus has a greater worth. That's

  592. what worship is. We're not supposed to

  593. worship men. We save that for the Lord

  594. Jesus Christ who has accomplished all

  595. these things, is seated at the right

  596. hand of the father, listening to our

  597. prayers and building his church and

  598. going into all the world preaching the

  599. gospel. He's able to do these things

  600. from afar.

  601. Although he lives in us as well

  602. here chapter 4 verse 8 the foreign

  603. living creatures each of them

  604. were full of eyes within and they rest

  605. not day and night you know there are

  606. some pretty amazing creatures on this

  607. earth I mean I'm just I just am in awe

  608. of some of these creatures

  609. you know what they do you know

  610. incredible creator

  611. that we have. But when we get to heaven,

  612. that's going to go up a notch. We're

  613. going to we're going to see heaven and

  614. the glory that this son of God has been

  615. preparing for his people, his family, us

  616. down here on the earth.

  617. And that's what they're saying. Holy,

  618. holy, holy

  619. to who? To the lamb.

  620. He's the one only one that can um take

  621. the title deed. He's the worthy one.

  622. So that's another one of Jesus names.

  623. He's the worthy one. And that comes from

  624. this verse here,

  625. verse 8. And now look over in verse 11.

  626. You're worthy, oh Lord. That's what

  627. worship means. He's worthy

  628. to receive glory and honor and power for

  629. you have created all things. And don't

  630. miss this. For your pleasure they are

  631. and were created. That's why we're here

  632. on this earth for this time.

  633. The Lord created us for his pleasure

  634. to to go to go into all the world and

  635. tell the world what he has done for

  636. them.

  637. And then um

  638. if you will look over in chapter 19,

  639. you say, "What are we going to do for

  640. eternity?

  641. We're going to worship the Lord

  642. and be with the angels he created and

  643. the heaven he's created and the family

  644. he has created.

  645. And now in chapter 19

  646. verse 16

  647. and he has a name written on his

  648. besture. Now, this is 19 chapters into

  649. the book of Revelation.

  650. He's changed. He's still Lord of all.

  651. Like Peter said back there in Acts, like

  652. Paul said, he's going to judge the whole

  653. world. Those men have never read the

  654. book of Revelation. They come along way

  655. later.

  656. And John,

  657. he saw these things and he wrote these

  658. things down for us. And John said he's

  659. got a name. Are the names of the Lord

  660. important?

  661. Yeah, they absolutely are.

  662. King of kings and Lord of lords.

  663. You know that's what Thomas said. My

  664. God, my Lord and my God. That's what

  665. Mary Magdalene said. My Lord and my God.

  666. And when we come here and we sing these

  667. songs and we look into God's word and we

  668. get together, that's what we do. Lord,

  669. these things are true. You are the great

  670. king

  671. and lord. Turn over to chapter 21

  672. verse 6.

  673. Revelation 21 and verse 6. He said unto

  674. me,

  675. how's this book start?

  676. He told John, I'm the alpha and the

  677. omega. And we're 20 almost 21 chapters

  678. into Revelation.

  679. He's still the first and the last. He's

  680. still lord of lords. He's still the king

  681. of kings. Nothing has changed.

  682. And forever he's going to be known like

  683. this. And forever we're going to be with

  684. him. And forever we're going to worship

  685. him and praise him for this gift of

  686. salvation that he has given to us.

  687. And he said unto me, "It is done.

  688. I am the Alpha and the Omega." He said

  689. on the cross, "It is finished." Now he

  690. says it is done. What's done? This his

  691. father's will.

  692. They had an agreement way back yonder

  693. that the father would send the son to

  694. become a man and to pay for our sins and

  695. to accomplish

  696. these things and give us the gift of

  697. eternal life. This sounds like the woman

  698. at the well. I will give unto him that

  699. is a thirst, a fountain of water of life

  700. freely.

  701. You know that's incredible thing about

  702. God. He's doesn't bargain very well. He

  703. just gives it away.

  704. And that's what he has done in his son.

  705. No bargaining with him. You better come

  706. on his terms. And his terms are what his

  707. son has done.

  708. So as we go from Matthew all the way to

  709. Revelation here through the gospels

  710. seeing you know these names about Jesus

  711. and who he is and what he has done you

  712. know that's what the apostles did

  713. you know after all these things were

  714. done you know they saw it in Acts

    Acts 1 chapter mention

  715. chapter 1 go he told them go into all

  716. the world preach the gospel be witnesses

  717. of me everywhere and they did that and

  718. churches were planted and churches grew

  719. up because they obeyed uh the Lord. I'll

  720. turn back to Romans chapter 1.

    Romans 1 chapter mention

  721. So, you know, that's what the apostles

  722. preached was an accomplished salvation.

  723. That's what we must preach. That's what

  724. we must believe in. This isn't something

  725. is a ify or a maybe or if I hang on long

  726. enough.

  727. These are eternal decrees from God.

  728. God said you believe on me and you will

  729. have everlasting life. And these men,

  730. Paul didn't start the church in Rome,

  731. but he wrote this wonderful letter

  732. that's one of my favorites. And look in

  733. chapter 1 verse 7 what he says.

  734. Now remember,

  735. um, Paul spent a lot of time with the

  736. Lord. He wasn't there with the other

  737. apostles in the Gospels. He just wasn't

  738. there.

  739. Judas betrays Christ.

  740. God accomplishes our salvation. And then

  741. God decides to make a murderer

  742. his best apostle, one of his best

  743. apostles.

  744. Paul spent a lot of time with Jesus.

  745. Some of it he tells us about and some of

  746. it he didn't. Months he spent with Jesus

  747. learning.

  748. But Paul knew that salvation was

  749. accomplished. He knew uh the the the man

  750. born in Bethlehem was in heaven in

  751. glory. A man was born. A man lived. A

  752. man died. A man has raised from the

  753. dead. A man is in heaven. And a man is

  754. coming back.

  755. And that's what Paul says here to the

  756. Romans. Verse 7. To all you that are in

  757. Rome.

  758. Beloved of God.

  759. What? We're beloved by God. I thought we

  760. were separated from God. I thought we

  761. were sinners. I thought we were all our

  762. righteousnesses were filthy rags. That's

  763. all true.

  764. But God has given a gift

  765. um and loved us. And now he calls us

  766. saints. Grace to you and peace from God

  767. our father in the Lord Jesus Christ. You

  768. see how Paul

  769. tells people about what's been done. You

  770. know 30 years after what happened in

  771. Jerusalem.

  772. You know, salvation is something that is

  773. accomplished

  774. and you know, it's from God and from the

  775. Lord Jesus Christ. He puts them

  776. together. The Father and the the Lord

  777. are the same.

  778. One's not greater than the other.

  779. They're equal. Equal in every way.

  780. And so was the spirit. Paul go into that

  781. in chapter 8.

  782. But this is why Jesus had to go away.

  783. He told the the disciples in John,

  784. remember we looked at that made them

  785. sad.

  786. They didn't want a savior. They just

  787. wanted a, you know, a Santa Claus, I

  788. guess, to walk around with them. They

  789. didn't fully understand what was going

  790. to happen.

  791. How could you? But once Jesus was rose

  792. from the dead, he told us this was going

  793. to happen.

  794. You better get on board with this.

  795. And he says in verse 8, first I thank

  796. God

  797. through Jesus Christ for you are all

  798. that your faith. What's God looking for?

  799. Faith and what he's done. Not faith in

  800. ourselves, not commandments,

  801. you know, not morality,

  802. uh none of that stuff. He's looking for

  803. faith in what he has done.

  804. God is my witness whom I serve with my

  805. spirit and the gospel of his son. Now we

  806. have a gospel to preach and that's his

  807. son is that gospel he's that means good

  808. news that goes all the way back to

  809. Genesis chapter 3 when God said I'll

    Genesis 3 chapter mention

  810. crush the serpent's head and he's done

  811. it and he did it with his only begotten

  812. son. Now look at in 1 Corinthians

    1 Corinthians 1 chapter mention

  813. chapter 1.

  814. That's why you see all these epistles

  815. that came along later start out like

  816. this

  817. and 1 Corinthians chapter 1

    1 Corinthians 1 chapter mention

  818. and now it's you know that's what's the

  819. requirement

  820. there's only one

  821. and it's faith in the gospel of the son

  822. of god

  823. and Paul said beware lest any man spoil

  824. you through philosophy be in vain

  825. deceit, after the tradition of man,

  826. after the rudiments of the world. Don't

  827. go after those things.

  828. If you've got Christ, you've got it all.

  829. And here he tells the Corinthians that

  830. this is a bad church.

  831. You know, Paul didn't put him back under

  832. the law.

  833. He said, "God has given us grace to go

  834. forward."

  835. So it's that grace we need, that mercy

  836. we need, that love we need.

  837. And here in chapter 1 and verse three,

  838. he says this, like he said to the

  839. Romans, grace be unto you and peace from

  840. God. What

  841. I thought I was at war with God. You

  842. know, when things get really bad out

  843. there, that's kind of how we feel

  844. sometimes. But Lord, I didn't realize

  845. that you and I were at war. No, we're

  846. not at war with God.

  847. We're at peace with God

  848. because of the grace which he's given to

  849. us

  850. in Jesus Christ.

  851. And that in everything,

  852. even when you sin, we don't have to talk

  853. about that.

  854. But we do, you know, we fall down, we

  855. mess up, we could have done better. We

  856. don't get kicked out of the family, you

  857. know, we don't get thrown over the

  858. mountain and we got to start climbing

  859. back up. None of that. We just come to

  860. God through his son and plead his grace,

  861. plead his blood and thank him

  862. for supplying everything to us in one

  863. person and in one work.

  864. And he says, even the testimony of

  865. Christ which was confirmed in you. So,

  866. the apostles preached Christ, you know,

  867. and him and his who he is and what he's

  868. done. We don't need to leave that

  869. behind. We need to amen that and get in

  870. line and do the same thing. He's the

  871. Lord Jesus Christ. That's what Paul says

  872. here to the Corinthians. He's the Lord

  873. of every church. He's the head of every

  874. church. He's the head of every man.

  875. Everyone goes back to him.

  876. And now look over in verse nine.

  877. You say, "Well, I'm not very faithful."

  878. And God factored that in. He is.

  879. He'll make up for your infidelity.

  880. Read the book of of Hosea.

  881. God is faithful by whom you were called.

  882. So our calling is of God

  883. and our fellowship is with his son Jesus

  884. Christ our Lord. You know that's where

  885. it's at. You know we people don't want

  886. it there. You know that's what happens.

  887. We you know we witness to people and say

  888. hey man there's peace with God. Just you

  889. just got to come through Christ. Ah no

  890. thank you. People go through they lose

  891. loved ones and they go through mourning

  892. and you know a time of stress and and

  893. and and terror in their minds but

  894. not us.

  895. The reason being is because we know

  896. God's son Jesus Christ who is Lord of

  897. all. He's greater than any circumstances

  898. we can find ourselves in. That's what he

  899. told the Corinthians.

  900. Go to Galatians chapter 1. It's what he

    Galatians 1 chapter mention

  901. told

  902. them

  903. as well. Galatians chapter 1.

    Galatians 1 chapter mention

  904. And that's why Paul says here in

  905. Galatians 1:1,

    Galatians 1:1

  906. he's an apostle. He's a called one.

  907. You know, God,

  908. he God chooses his vessels

  909. and he Paul tells us second Timothy, if

  910. you want to be a chosen vessel of God,

  911. then clean yourself up.

  912. So, we're fighting that battle

  913. constantly. That's why we need the word

  914. of God. That's why we need the grace of

  915. God, the mercy of God, the love of God.

  916. All found in Christ, Paul, an apostle,

  917. not of men, neither by men by man.

  918. Also, I didn't go to a seminary and get

  919. this. I didn't go to uh, you know, to a

  920. school and get this, a college and get

  921. this. He was called of God.

  922. And, you know, he did such a good job.

  923. He didn't add anything to the gospel. He

  924. didn't take anything away. He did just

  925. what he told everybody else to do.

  926. You're complete in Christ.

  927. you know, be rooted and grounded in him.

  928. And Paul was Paul was a great sinner as

  929. well. He knows that God raised him from

  930. the dead because he saw him raised from

  931. the dead.

  932. That's a requirement of an apostle

  933. and all the brethren who are with me

  934. unto the churches of Galatia. So, not

  935. only does his family exist in small

  936. groups and in small areas, it it it's

  937. branched out and all all over the world.

  938. So, wherever we go and we find born

  939. again Christians, you know, they're like

  940. us. They're in a family. And they're in

  941. the family because of what Jesus has

  942. done. And here he says, gave himself.

  943. That's it.

  944. You know, he was a good teacher. He was

  945. a good miracle worker. You know, there

  946. there's never been anyone like him.

  947. But if he doesn't give himself for our

  948. sins, then we're still dead in our sins.

  949. That's what Paul told the Corinthians

  950. later on.

  951. So this perfect man

  952. and this perfect God

  953. paid for our sins. And that was the will

  954. of God, his father, to whom he glory

  955. forever and ever. Amen. And he Paul

  956. says, "Don't be moved from this.

  957. Don't let anyone trick you. Don't let

  958. anyone fool you. Don't let anyone tell

  959. you this isn't true."

  960. And that's what people do. It's out

  961. there. If you believe what we believe,

  962. we believe what the Bible believes,

  963. we're not going to be liked very well

  964. out there because of these things. You

  965. know, yeah, there's only one way to

  966. heaven. I'm sorry. It's what the Bible

  967. says. This isn't my world. It's the Lord

  968. Jesus world

  969. and to him be the glory and the honor.

  970. And that's what the apostles did. I

  971. mean, they loved people. They planted

  972. these churches. They preached the

  973. gospel. They preached the truth. They

  974. preached Jesus. They did all those

  975. wonderful things. Now, go back to second

  976. Corinthians

  977. verse chapter 13 and verse 11.

  978. You know, so now we can see this is why

  979. it's so important for us to understand

  980. the Godhead

  981. and study

  982. the Godhead. God the Father, God the

  983. Son, and God the Holy Spirit.

  984. And there's not three gods. There's only

  985. one.

  986. That's a part of this mystery

  987. that Paul proclaimed and we proclaim and

  988. the word of God does. And Paul after

  989. after all the years that Paul spent in

  990. Corinthians,

  991. they rebelled against him

  992. and joined the false teachers and great

  993. damage was brought and Paul got in there

  994. and tried to to to help. He never gave

  995. up on them.

  996. So important for us to remember God will

  997. never give up on us ever.

  998. If we are in Christ Jesus

  999. and here in verse 11, finally, brethren,

  1000. farewell,

  1001. be perfect.

  1002. That's maturing,

  1003. you know, grow.

1004. You know, that's that's what helps is if

1005. we grow, you know, it's going to help us

1006. personally and it's going to help our

1007. neighbor because we're Christian. You

1008. know, we're we know Jesus

  1009. and we follow Jesus.

1010. and be of one mind. That's worldwide.

1011. One mind. You know, this goes all the

1012. way back to when Paul wrote this 2,000

1013. years ago. You know, we are to be of one

1014. mind of this book, one mind of these

1015. doctrines, one mind of these truths.

1016. And he says, and the God of

  1017. wrath, no, that's them.

1018. God of love, that's us who are in his

1019. son. God is not at war with us. He's at

1020. peace with us and he will be with you.

1021. Greet one another with a holy kiss and

1022. all the saints greet you. And the grace

1023. Paul starts these books with grace. He

1024. ends these books with grace.

  1025. It's it's sufficient

1026. for us and for our sins. And where does

  1027. it come from?

1028. Well, it's come to us through the Lord

1029. Jesus Christ. this man who was born in

  1030. Bethlehem,

1031. who lived a perfect life, who died

1032. in Jerusalem on that cruel cross, was

1033. raised from the dead, ascended to the

1034. father, and he's soon coming again.

1035. He's the one that we worship.

1036. Turn over to Titus chapter 2.

    Titus 2 chapter mention

  1037. Titus

    Titus 2 chapter mention

  1038. chapter 2.

1039. And I'm no expert on the languages,

1040. but there are several places in the New

  1041. Testament.

1042. There are maybe 11 or 12 of these

1043. verses that we can turn to that say this

1044. about the Lord Jesus Christ. And in

  1045. Titus chapter 2 and verse 13,

    Titus 2 chapter mention

1046. looking for that blessed hope.

1047. He's our blessed hope. See the names of

1048. Jesus just go on. Looking for that

1049. blessed hope and that glorious

  1050. appearing. He's not defeated.

  1051. He's he's he's in glory. He's he's

1052. triumphed over the grave. He's uh able

1053. to save us to the uttermost. All those

1054. great things and all those great

  1055. promises.

1056. Looking for that blessed hope and the

1057. glorious appearing of the great God.

1058. Forget the end. Our savior Jesus Christ.

1059. The New Testament says Jesus is the

  1060. great God and Savior

1061. of mankind. That's the one we preach.

1062. That's the one we follow. That's the one

1063. we want to be like. That's the one we

1064. preach. We don't want to get sidetracked

1065. like the Galatians did. Well, speaking

1066. of Galatians, go to chapter 2 and verse

  1067. 13.

  1068. Galatians

  1069. who

1070. Galatians is a great book

1071. shows us the law can't save. Our works

1072. can't save. They fall short.

1073. Way short. So come to Christ. Give up

  1074. trying to save yourself.

1075. give up trying to do it right

1076. and believe in him who did do it right.

1077. That's what Paul told him.

1078. And here in Galatians chapter 2 and

    Galatians 2 chapter mention

  1079. verse 13

  1080. and here we see

1081. when I saw that they walked not upight

1082. up uprightly according to the truth of

1083. the gospel. So that's what we do. You

1084. know, we're never under the law. We

1085. can't keep the law. Well, the law's

1086. there. It's how we know what sin is. But

1087. we can't keep it. But God has made a

1088. better way. His word and his gospel,

1089. they sanctify us. And I said unto Peter

1090. and unto them all, if you bring a Jew uh

1091. in here and the manners of the Gentiles

1092. and not as the Jews, why do you compel

1093. the Gentiles to live as Jews? So, it's,

  1094. you know, fruit.

1095. You know, I when I when I got saved and

1096. I was trying to, you know, read these

1097. things and understand these things, I

1098. got to Romans where he said Abraham

  1099. couldn't please God. David couldn't

1100. please God. Those two way too better men

1101. than me. I gave up and I come to Christ.

1102. He's the one who has paid it all. And he

1103. says uh in verse 13 of here of chapter 3

1104. Galatians my last verse Galatians 3:13

    Galatians 3:13

1105. and this is what God has done. This is

1106. not what we have done. So we should see

1107. our approach to salvation is not

1108. something men do. We'll get to that. We

  1109. got to believe

1110. here. Christ has redeemed us from the

1111. curse of the law. I'm not under the law.

1112. Don't bring it on me. I'll have a fit.

1113. You've been made a curse for us. Cursed

1114. is everyone that hangs on a tree. So,

1115. we've been redeemed from the curse.

1116. We've been redeemed from our sin. We've

1117. been redeemed from our sinful life.

  1118. Oh, because

1119. of the second member of the trinity

1120. became a man and come to this earth.

1121. 2 Corinthians 4, Paul calls him the

1122. image of God. 1 Corinthians chapter 2:8.

1123. Paul says he's the Lord of glory.

1124. So let's pray. Father, we thank you this

1125. morning for this great plan of

  1126. redemption.

1127. A sinner such as I. Father, all our

1128. righteousnesses are as filthy rags.

1129. But through the blood of your son and

1130. the work of your son, you raised him

1131. from the dead. And he's seated at your

1132. right hand. He's still pleading his

1133. blood on our behalf. What a blessed

1134. redeemer. What a blessed mediator. What

1135. a blessed advocate we have. And thank

1136. you for becoming the friend of sinners.

1137. And uh Lord Jesus, thank you for dying

1138. for us. We thank you for this great gift

  1139. of salvation.

1140. Thank you for giving it to us. And we

1141. pray in Jesus name. Amen.

1142. Lord, as we go from this place,

1143. loving you more, trusting you more.

1144. May the power of your love and the light

1145. of your word shine to a sin darkened

1146. world. As we go from this place,
