  1. We've been doing a a series on sound

  2. doctrine

  3. and

  4. we have started out

  5. chronologically on purpose

  6. with God.

  7. Think he's the greatest

  8. subject. He's more than a subject,

  9. but he's the subject of the word of God.

  10. That sort of brings up the title of this

  11. message. This is the son of God,

  12. the Lord Jesus, the son of God, the son

  13. of man that he

  14. proclaimed to be and obviously is.

  15. But this is uh his revelation and

  16. redemption.

  17. These two things are so important for us

  18. to see

  19. the purpose. You know, you can get you

  20. can get caught up in the miracles. You

  21. can get get caught up in the some of the

  22. fascinating things about him.

  23. And we'll do uh we'll we'll do a message

  24. on miracles. They're a very important

  25. part of him and his ministry.

  26. But you know, you could have been healed

  27. been a leper and been healed by him back

  28. then, but the leper finally died.

  29. So if the benefits of Jesus aren't

  30. beyond this life and beyond the grave,

  31. then

  32. we look for another.

  33. But he is the one that brought the

  34. revelation from heaven and this plan of

  35. redemption for us.

  36. Uh open your Bibles if you would to

  37. Philippians chapter 2.

    Philippians 2 chapter mention

  38. There's some areas in the word of God we

  39. we need it all.

  40. And there are some areas where there are

  41. two or three places where something is

  42. dealt with. Maybe Jesus taught the

  43. apostles and now the apostles are

  44. teaching us. There's plenty of those

  45. examples. And there's some places where

  46. we have a verse or two where you know

  47. it's just sort of um you know a very

  48. high point

  49. for Christians

  50. you know and that certainly for

  51. Christians is in first Timothy

    1 Timothy 3:16

  52. chapter 3 verse 16 where it talks about

  53. the mystery of God and the Lord Jesus

  54. Christ the plan of redemption and all

  55. those things. So, you know, that is sort

  56. of the bullseye for us as far as what we

  57. should be doing as a church and it's

  58. great to study doctrine. I love

  59. doctrine.

  60. U but we have to do more than study

  61. doctrine. We have to study God

  62. and that's sort of what we're doing

  63. before we get into all the doctrines of

  64. the word of God. We are looking at the

  65. Lord Jesus. And you know, we've looked

  66. in the past at his sinlessness.

  67. You know, he was tested by the devil,

  68. but he he came through that just fine.

  69. And we talked about those things. We had

  70. a had a message on on that or two. And

  71. today we're going to look at a verse in

  72. Philippians that's sort of the high

  73. water mark

  74. for

  75. the humanity of Jesus and and the the

  76. deity of Jesus coming together

  77. in Philippians

    Philippians 2:5

  78. chapter 2 verse 5.

  79. And a lot is said here about

  80. Jesus. This is about as deep as you can

  81. go in the Bible about this thing, the

  82. subject. And the subject is him.

  83. But here we have the son of God and the

  84. son of man. And you know when we say the

  85. son of God, you know, we we just, you

  86. know, our knees should buckle and we

  87. should say, you know, the son of God, he

  88. is God. He's deity. But when we say the

  89. son of man, it should be the same way

  90. because, you know, he's equal in both

  91. those things.

  92. You know, he's not 150% God and 50% man.

  93. He's 100% God and 100% man.

  94. And that's what the Bible tells us.

  95. That's what the Bible presents to us

  96. that Jesus is God. If you don't believe

  97. that, you're going to you're not going

  98. to heaven. You're going someplace else.

  99. Because that man who uh said that come

  100. to me all you that labor and are heavy

  101. laden and I will give you rest. That man

  102. is the one that the whole universe has

  103. been handed over to

  104. from the Godhead. God the Father, God

  105. the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. And we

  106. believe in a triune God. My faith rest

  107. in a triune God. Father, Son, and Holy

  108. Spirit. What the word of God says.

  109. That's so important for us, you know, to

  110. let God be God. And as we examine his

  111. word and we see these things and then we

  112. are going to see the necessity of our of

  113. our redemption,

  114. you know, it's it's uh you know, one

  115. thing to look at the doctrines, but if

  116. you don't see the need there and the

  117. necessity for us to be saved, then

  118. you're you're not getting the point of

  119. the scripture.

  120. So Jesus comes along and he's the

  121. revelation of God. And part of that

  122. revelation is his redemption

  123. for man. And he told us that. We didn't

  124. figure that out. You know, Mary was told

  125. that from the get-go. And even John the

  126. Baptist said, you know, are are you the

  127. one or should we look for another? Jesus

  128. said, "No, I'm the one."

  129. So all of the apostles died for this

  130. one. And this one is the one that we

  131. have here in the scriptures for us um to

  132. study and to look at and to learn from.

  133. Jesus is an incredible teacher. The the

  134. gospels say never a man spoke like this,

  135. you know, and he's still speaking and

  136. he's speaking through his word. And we

  137. need a lot of help. You know, we our

  138. flesh can't please God,

  139. you know. So, I had to learn that when I

  140. got saved. I'm like, well, okay,

  141. what is it in my flesh that I can use

  142. now to get to know God? Well, turns out

  143. I don't need it any of it. It's only

  144. going to cause me problems.

  145. So, we got to get our flesh out of the

  146. way. We got to get our ideas out of the

  147. way. We got to get our our lack of

  148. knowing out of the way that God might

  149. show us from his word who he is.

  150. And here in Philippians chapter 2, you

    Philippians 2 chapter mention

  151. know, Paul often used Jesus sufferings

  152. to help people get through suffering on

  153. this earth.

  154. So that's why we study the sufferings of

  155. Christ because, you know, the you know

  156. the the the churches out there that

  157. offer entertainment

  158. and and other things besides the word of

  159. God, that's not going to get you through

  160. life. It's not going to get you into

  161. heaven.

  162. entertainment just sort of falls short.

  163. But the word of God just takes us deeper

  164. and deeper and deeper and deeper into

  165. who God is and what God has done.

  166. So we benefit greatly from studying God.

  167. We benefit greatly from studying what

  168. God says. That's how we know these

  169. things. Well, then we we know that we

  170. have the this great necessity then

  171. of this redemption and of this

  172. revelation. You know, the Bible tells

  173. us, you know, we're we're sinners. We're

  174. all sinners. We all fall short of the

  175. glory of God. We're all headed for hell.

  176. That's what the Bible says. And that

  177. declaration is made over and over and

  178. over again. But God says, "That's okay.

  179. Give up on saving yourself. Look to me

  180. and I will save you." So God has become

  181. our savior. God is our redeemer.

  182. And that's what the apostles proclaimed.

  183. That's why, you know, Jesus went back to

  184. heaven and he said, uh, you know, you're

  185. going to do greater works than I did and

  186. they got out and they got these churches

  187. planted. And and we have the New

  188. Testament now. And we have verses like

  189. this that we're going to look at this

  190. morning and Philippians chapter 2 down

    Philippians 2 chapter mention

  191. here in verse 5. Let this mind be in you

  192. which was also in Christ Jesus. So, we

  193. don't even need our old fleshly mind to

  194. know God. it's going to hinder us. We

  195. need to get rid of our old fleshly mind

  196. and have the mind of Christ.

  197. You know, you say, "Wow, that's quite a

  198. gift." Yeah, that's exactly right. That

  199. is quite a gift for us that the mind of

  200. Christ can dwell in these sinners that

  201. we are.

  202. And it's the mind that Jesus had.

  203. So that's why it's important for us to

  204. study Jesus. That's why it's important

  205. for us to know, you know, what he said

  206. and, you know, what he meant and spend

  207. time on these things.

  208. And here he's talking about Jesus in

  209. verse six, who being in the form of God,

  210. thought not robbery to be equal

  211. with God, but made himself of no

  212. reputation, and took upon him the form

  213. of a servant. And he was made in the

  214. likeness of men. and being found and fa

  215. fashioned as a man he humbled himself

  216. became obedient under death even the

  217. death of the cross so this is just John

    John 3:16

  218. 3:16

  219. you know amplified

  220. and that's what Jesus said to to his own

  221. apostles his own disciples you know they

  222. wanted a kingdom and Jesus said hang on

  223. we I got work to do and that work was uh

  224. the work of his father.

  225. But no angel could have pulled this off.

  226. No angel. God couldn't have sent Michael

  227. the archangel down here or any of the

  228. other ones

  229. uh to accomplish redemption.

  230. You know, we have to know how sinful sin

  231. is and how important the blood of Christ

  232. is in order for us to be able to

  233. overcome sin down here in our own lives.

  234. You know, we have to wonder around

  235. wonder, well, am I saved? You know, what

  236. else? You know, I did I did all the 99

  237. things. What else can I do? Well,

  238. there's nothing you can do. It's already

  239. been done. And if you still think you're

  240. doing something, then you need to cease

  241. doing and believe on the Lord Jesus

  242. Christ who has accomplished

  243. our salvation.

  244. That's the necessity of this revelation

  245. from him. That's the necessity of this

  246. plan of redemption that he gave us. So,

  247. you know, why did God become a man? You

  248. know, that's a good question to ask.

  249. To do miracles,

  250. well, a little more than that. Walk on

  251. the water, a little more than that. To

  252. be a good teacher, a little more than

  253. that.

  254. You know, all those things are great and

  255. they have their place, but if you miss

  256. why Jesus came, you're going to miss

  257. heaven.

  258. If you miss who he is, you're going to

  259. miss heaven. If you miss what he's done,

  260. you're going to miss heaven. So that's

  261. why we study God. That's why we look at

  262. the word of God that we just clear our

  263. minds out and let God have his way in

  264. our own minds to tell us that we're

  265. sinners and we need a savior. And he has

  266. provided

  267. that savior.

  268. And that's Jesus. He's the God man. You

  269. know, if we had two measuring cups here,

  270. start off with an illustration, and we

  271. fill this measuring cup up, and we

  272. filled this measuring cup up, and this

  273. one was the son of God, and this one was

  274. the son of man, we'd have to film cur to

  275. the brim, right? I mean, Jesus wasn't,

  276. you know, less God and more man or more

  277. man and less God.

  278. No, he it's what this says here. He's

  279. 100% God and 100% man.

  280. And you know, we don't back off that

  281. because that's what the word of God says

  282. for us here. So when we think of him as

  283. the the son of God and the son of man,

  284. he is both. And he is both at the same

  285. time. You know, he's not like Superman.

  286. He got go and change and become

  287. something else. No, he he was the God

  288. man for 33 and a2 years for us to see

  289. from the time he was born in Bethlehem

  290. to Mary and to Joseph until he handed uh

  291. his mother off to John on the cross and

  292. said, "It is finished." Why did he say

  293. that? Well, that's important.

  294. Say, "Well, he's just, you know, all his

  295. suffering's over now. He's just going to

  296. die and it's over." That's wrong. He

  297. said it is finished because he finished

  298. the job that God the Father gave him to

  299. do.

  300. And that's what verse 9 says. Wherefore

  301. God also has highly exalted him and

  302. given him a name above every name that

  303. at the name of Jesus every knee should

  304. bow the things in heaven and the things

  305. on the earth. every tongue should

  306. confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the

  307. glory of the father. So I mean this is

  308. just this this this doesn't go any

  309. higher.

  310. Jesus is God. He's not he's not just a

  311. man

  312. now. He's God. He's God seated in the

  313. heavens. And if you look back at versesh

  314. 7 and 8 that we looked at there uh Paul

  315. said he is in the likeness of God and

  316. the likeness of man

  317. at the same time.

  318. So you know that's you know he's equal

  319. in both. You know the little

  320. illustration 100%

  321. and 100% makes 200% in our thinking but

  322. that's that's not it. No, he's 200% that

  323. that is who he is. He's greater than all

  324. of our understanding.

  325. And you know what we have here in

  326. Philippians from the Apostle Paul, you

  327. know, we use some theological terms. So,

  328. we know we can talk about doctrine, you

  329. know, justification by faith and

  330. assurance and, you know, all those great

  331. doctrines. We're going to look at those

  332. as we progress through this series. But

  333. here we have the hypothatic union

  334. where you know that I I was in welding

  335. in Buck. I went to Bucka Hills

  336. and I took a craft I took a class down

  337. there for two years on welding. So I

  338. know a little bit about welding. Not

  339. what I ended up doing but what I thought

  340. was the right thing at the time.

  341. But when you weld, you have you take you

  342. can weld a lot of different metals.

  343. But when you weld a metal, you you have

  344. to have the right um welding rod for

  345. that metal. You can't weld iron with an

  346. aluminum

  347. rod. And there's all kind of metals. So

  348. you got to match up what you're doing.

  349. And then when you put that stick in

  350. there, put that electricity through that

  351. welding rod. You you seen the arc.

  352. That's what's happening. There's just a

  353. fusion with electricity

  354. of that rod with the metal and it just

  355. mixes right in metal and just becomes a

  356. part of the metal. That's what good

  357. welders do. And for me, I guess that's

  358. as close as I can come with God becoming

  359. a man. He just, you know, he's greater

  360. than than men. But he volunteered to do

  361. this

  362. and he did he did it here.

  363. It says of no reputation.

  364. So you think well if God's coming to

  365. earth he you know he's like everybody

  366. else. He'd want a limo and you know you

  367. know abandon everything to go with him

  368. to announce his arrival. Not at all.

  369. That's not Jesus.

  370. You know he came to the poor.

  371. You know he come to Mary. he come to

  372. Joseph,

  373. you know, and and he, you know, he had

  374. nothing when he left this earth. He

  375. lived pretty poor.

  376. So that's what this is talking about and

  377. no reputation.

  378. You know, he he wasn't worried about

  379. that at all. Spurgeon said, "I wouldn't

  380. walk across the street to pick up my

  381. reputation."

  382. So

  383. you you know Jesus he was that and more

  384. he wasn't worried about his reputation

  385. no reputation and he took upon him the

  386. form and he became a servant you know

  387. that's you know it's it's just some

  388. occupations out there are just so

  389. humbling aren't they you know the guy we

  390. went out to the Italian restaurant

  391. pastor pastor told me about and we're in

  392. there eating and there's a guy in there

  393. we were there late and this guy was in

  394. there mopping the restaurant down. I was

  395. like, "This guy, I don't know where he

  396. learned how to mop, but buddy, I'm going

  397. to give you the trophy.

  398. >> He was such a good a good mopper." But,

  399. you know, there's certain jobs and

  400. janitors and things like that in our

  401. society that we don't look up at those

  402. people. We we we look up at the other

  403. ones, you know,

  404. not Jesus. He didn't worry about that.

  405. his his reputation was was a he was a

  406. servant.

  407. You know, that's what we find him doing

  408. when we read the gospels.

  409. We find him serving and you know, he his

  410. uh humility here

  411. goes right along with his subjecting

  412. himself to his crucifixion.

  413. You know, he uh knew where he was

  414. headed. you know, he knew very well

  415. where he was headed. The apostles really

  416. struggled with that.

  417. You know, they they they displayed that

  418. when he taught him and he talked to him,

  419. but he stayed the course and he said,

  420. "You don't understand now, but you'll

  421. understand later on."

  422. So that's what he did. He laid down

  423. himself here and made himself of no

  424. reputation and became a servant for the

  425. very reason of our redemption.

  426. Turn over to Hebrews chapter 5.

    Hebrews 5 chapter mention

  427. Hebrews chapter 5.

    Hebrews 5 chapter mention

  428. And the writer of Hebrews gets in this.

  429. You know, I don't think Paul might have

  430. wrote Hebrews. If he did, look at the

  431. details he knows about the crucifixion

  432. of Jesus. He wasn't there, but look at

  433. the detail.

  434. If Paul wrote this,

  435. he said, "So also, Christ glorified not

  436. himself."

  437. I mean, that's what he's saying to the

  438. Philippians

  439. of no reputation.

  440. He didn't worry about his reputation. He

  441. was on a mission.

  442. He was on a mission for his father to be

  443. made a high priest. And remember how all

  444. dressed up and decked out the high

  445. priest got they they wanted to really

  446. stick out. Not Jesus.

  447. He was after the the father's will. And

  448. that's what it says. You are my son.

  449. Today have I begotten thee.

  450. So whatever Jesus did the 33 years that

  451. he was on this earth, there's a reason

  452. he did it.

  453. He's a son of God. He's the son of man.

  454. And he was begotten.

  455. Now, he was not begotten as God.

  456. We looked at that. I mean, he's existed

  457. for eternity.

  458. Now, the Bible clearly is clear on that.

  459. But he says here uh he also has another

  460. place. You are the priest forever.

  461. Jesus is a priest forever. He he doesn't

  462. have a you know four-year term or 8year

  463. term or even a lifetime term down here

  464. on the earth.

  465. He's going to last forever. And you you

  466. and I better be glad of that. We

  467. wouldn't get to heaven without him being

  468. our high priest forever

  469. because we're still sinners

  470. until we get to heaven. And then then

  471. the writer says in the days of his

  472. flesh. Now that's what we're talking

  473. about in Philippians when he was in the

  474. likeness of man.

  475. That was his flesh. And he offered up

  476. prayers and supplications

  477. with strong crying and tears.

  478. God cried. Yes, God cried.

  479. And God prayed.

  480. And this was the son to the father.

  481. Jesus was in an incredible dilemma.

  482. The apostles didn't want him to go to

  483. the cross.

  484. He didn't listen to them. The devil

  485. didn't want him to go to the cross. He

  486. didn't listen to them.

  487. He went to the cross. He knew what he

  488. was supposed to do. And you see that

  489. word save? That's that's salvation.

  490. That's redemption. That's what he did.

  491. He paid for our sins in full.

  492. And it says here, "And that he feared."

  493. Now, this verse causes some people some

  494. problems.

  495. But remember what Psalm 22 says

  496. that the fear of the Lord is clean.

  497. There's nothing wrong with this. Jesus

  498. fearing

  499. uh his father here as he went to the

  500. cross.

  501. And though he were a son, he's God.

  502. God doesn't learn anything.

  503. But here Jesus learned what it was like

  504. to be a man

  505. by the things in which he suffered. So

  506. he, you know, if anyone deserve not to

  507. suffer, it would have been Jesus. He

  508. never sinned.

  509. We're the ones that should suffer. But

  510. he suffered.

  511. He suffered for us.

  512. And being made perfect. How do you

  513. perfect God?

  514. You can't.

  515. But this is what

  516. uh Philippians is talking about. These

  517. are what some of the verses that Jesus

  518. mentioned when he was on the earth were

  519. all about where he, you know, where

  520. people read it and they say, "Wait a

  521. minute. If he's the son of God, he would

  522. have said that." But it proves that he

  523. is the son of God by what he said.

  524. of whom we have many things in verse 11

  525. to say

  526. that you're dull of hearing. This is the

  527. old, you know, this is the old um meat

  528. and and milk verse. This is this is the

  529. meat

  530. that God become a man in the form of a

  531. servant in the likeness of man.

  532. So, you know, Jesus had certain limits

  533. when he was on the earth. And when I say

  534. limits, I don't mean limits like God has

  535. limits. I mean limits like humans have

  536. limits.

  537. And that's what this verse in

  538. Philippians is talking about. It doesn't

  539. mean he was 100% God and and you know

  540. 90% man. No, he was 100% both.

  541. and the when he was a man, he says

  542. something or some of these verses as a

  543. man

  544. um for us to see that he was a man.

  545. Turn to Hebrews chapter 4

    Hebrews 4:15

  546. verse 15. That's right right here, right

  547. across the page.

  548. So now when we go to Jesus, he knows

  549. what it was like to be on the earth. He

  550. knows what it was like to be a man. He

  551. knows what it was like to have his

  552. friends die.

  553. He knows what it was like to people just

  554. to walk away. He knew what people to be

  555. possessed by a demon was like.

  556. He knows all those things now.

  557. That's what he learned as it it says

  558. over there in the other verse.

  559. And he says here, "Seeing then that we

  560. have a great

  561. high priest

  562. after the order of Melkchisedc forever,

  563. forever we have a savior. Forever we

  564. have a redeemer. Forever

  565. we have a great high priest.

  566. Remember the veil was written to from

  567. the top to the bottom because of this."

  568. And where's he at?

  569. He's in heaven

  570. now. I know he's everywhere. He's on the

  571. present, but he's seated at the right

  572. hand of the father. He's waiting for

  573. God's enemies to be made his foottool.

  574. That's what Psalm 2 says. That's what

  575. Psalm 110 says. That's what the Old

  576. Testament said. That's what the New

  577. Testament says.

  578. So there was no time that he, you know,

  579. was absent from being God or absent from

  580. being a man while he was here on the

  581. earth at 33 years. Never one moment.

  582. Clear to the end. Clear to the cross.

  583. Otherwise, he wouldn't have come out of

  584. the grave.

  585. But he come out of the grave, didn't he?

  586. And we do have now a high priest that

  587. can be touched

  588. with the feelings of our infirmities.

  589. God knows what it's like to be a man.

  590. That's Jesus.

  591. He was all points tested like we are.

  592. He didn't give in. He couldn't sin. He's

  593. God. We're the We're the sinners. We're

  594. the ones that need a savior. We're the

  595. ones that need a redeemer. We're the

  596. ones that need an advocate. We're the

  597. ones that need a great high priest. And

  598. God has graciously given us a free gift

  599. and it's Jesus.

  600. So, you know, don't don't crack your

  601. knuckle knuckles and ring your hands

  602. that you can't talk to God or you got to

  603. go through a saint or somebody else

  604. and go directly to God because of the

  605. work of his son. Come boldly to what

  606. throne of judgment. That's what we

  607. should have. No, we have the throne of

  608. grace that we might obtain what the

  609. sinners need. Mercy. God has it. And

  610. find grace to help in our time of need.

  611. God is so compassionate toward his

  612. people. Go to 2 Corinthians chapter 8.

    2 Corinthians 8 chapter mention

  613. 2 Corinthians chapter 8

    2 Corinthians 8 chapter mention

  614. and verse 8.

  615. This is sort of similar to what Paul

  616. told the Philippians. He tells the

  617. Corinthians about giving. We have grace

  618. giving. We don't we don't have

  619. percentages and tithing and all that.

  620. that's been done away. We have something

  621. better and greater.

  622. And we give

  623. because of God's grace.

  624. And that's what verse 8 says here. I

  625. speak not by commandment.

  626. You know, if Paul wanted us to be back

  627. under tithing, here's his chance to say

  628. get back under tithing. He doesn't. He

  629. says the opposite.

  630. but by occasion for the earnestness of

  631. others,

  632. the needs of others. We're not under the

  633. law to give. We're we're here to give

  634. because of others.

  635. People that don't know about Christ,

  636. that don't know about this salvation,

  637. that don't know he was poor so we could

  638. become rich. And and this is an amazing

  639. verse. I I read this verse 35 37 years

  640. ago whatever it was when I got saved and

  641. I have not gotten over this what this

  642. verse says. Grace of our Lord God though

  643. he was rich yet for your sakes he became

  644. poor. There it is that you through his

  645. poverty might be made rich.

  646. So God has just blessed us as Ephesians

  647. 1 says with all spiritual blessings in

  648. heavenly places and they're in one

  649. person. They're in the Lord Jesus

  650. Christ. Don't look anywhere else. And

  651. there is just an abundance of this

  652. available

  653. for us because of him. You know what

  654. about our ongoing sin problem? I mean

  655. that's that's an issue. Some people try

  656. to deny it. Oh, I'm not still a sinner.

  657. I got saved. I don't sin anymore. You

  658. fool.

  659. I didn't say that. John said that. You

  660. fool. You're lying. God says you're a

  661. sinner. Admit it.

  662. And uh let's go to Psalm 22.

  663. And there there are certain verses in

  664. the Old Testament that are just zero in

  665. on this. you know, him, you know, being

  666. a servant, him not serving himself, him

  667. serving the father and doing the

  668. father's will and and being the

  669. revelation of God and being the

  670. redemption of God that he is.

  671. And here in Psalm 22,

  672. you know, this is about the crucifixion,

  673. centuries before it ever happened.

  674. We're gonna hopefully someday the Lord

  675. carries look at the crucifixion.

  676. I mean, it's just just an incredible

  677. thing that

  678. he subjected himself to this.

  679. And here are some of his cries from the

  680. cross.

  681. But here in verse 10,

  682. I was cast upon thee from the womb.

  683. You know who is this?

  684. Well, this is God. This is Jesus. You

  685. know, there we have God talk in the

  686. Bible. It's where God talks to God

  687. and and we have that in verse one. My

  688. God, my God, why have you forsaken me?

  689. There's God talking to God

  690. and asking a question.

  691. Well, David thought it was him back

  692. then, right? No, it's Jesus. This whole

  693. this whole psalm is about him.

  694. And he says there in verse 10, I was

  695. cast upon thee from the womb.

  696. Thou art my God

  697. from my mother's belly.

  698. This is the son of God. This is the son

  699. of man.

  700. Who is he depending on?

  701. Not the uh Romans, not the Pharisees,

  702. not even his apostles.

  703. He found remember the coin in the fish's

  704. mouth. Jesus depended on no one but his

  705. father. That's why he had nothing and

  706. made it through without nothing.

  707. And here he says from my mother's body.

  708. So God is going to come through a woman.

  709. God is going to come through a mother to

  710. get a body.

  711. And and this is Jesus here in the Old

  712. Testament. And then what does he do?

  713. Turn to Romans chapter 12.

    Romans 12 chapter mention

  714. Romans

    Romans 12 chapter mention

  715. chapter 12.

  716. In verse 16,

  717. here's where Paul tells us to present

  718. our bodies a living sacrifice,

  719. acceptable and perfect will of God.

  720. That's what we do. You know, we're not

  721. here to

  722. we're not here to to build a

  723. infrastructure

  724. for everyone on the earth. No, we're

  725. here to build a kingdom for Jesus that's

  726. going to be forever and eternal. The

  727. Bible says one soul is worth the whole

  728. world.

  729. Well, whoever you think, Amazon, Apple,

  730. whatever great company you think's out

  731. there is not worth one soul.

  732. We need those guys, by the way. But

  733. we're here for souls.

  734. We're the church.

  735. And we submit ourselves to God. We don't

  736. want to be, you know, we run from this

  737. world. We don't, you know, I go on

  738. vacation and I I get a little taste of

  739. it every week like you guys do where you

  740. run back here and say, "God's right.

  741. God's right."

  742. Don't be uh conformed to this world, but

  743. be transformed.

  744. So remember that mind God gave us. We

  745. don't we don't use our old fleshly mind.

  746. We have something much better. we have

  747. the mind of Christ and and prove what is

  748. good. God wants us to prove what is

  749. good. That's why the righteousness of

  750. Jesus is so important.

  751. So we see him being good. We know he's

  752. good. We know he's God. We know he he's

  753. love and mercy and grace and he loved

  754. his enemies and all those great things.

  755. We need to be the same.

  756. And the only way we can do that is is

  757. with the word and with the new birth.

  758. And Paul lists a lot of things down

  759. through here the church ought to be

  760. doing. I'm not going to read them all,

  761. but go to verse 16.

  762. Paul was talking about our mind in verse

  763. two. Now he's talking about our mind in

  764. verse 16.

  765. Be of the same mind one toward another.

  766. There aren't two two groups in the

  767. church.

  768. You got to be saved to be in the church.

  769. You got to be saved to be in the body of

  770. Christ. That's what the new birth is.

  771. Jesus said, "Except a man be born again,

  772. he cannot see the kingdom of God."

  773. But those of us who have been born

  774. again, we can see a kingdom. We can see

  775. a king. We can see a Lord.

  776. We can see a teacher.

  777. We can see a redeemer. We can see our

  778. advocate. All those things that Jesus is

  779. no one greater than him

  780. and he come to earth and became poor

  781. and lived in poverty to do his father's

  782. will.

  783. That's the mind we should have.

  784. Mind not high things

  785. but condes and condescend. There's our

  786. word. That's what Jesus did. He

  787. condescended to earth. He condescended

  788. to sinners,

  789. to men of low estate. You can't get much

  790. lower than being a sinner.

  791. Be not wise in your own conceit. So

  792. that's what the church should be about

  793. are these things. Now turn back to

  794. Philippians chapter 2 where we started.

    Philippians 2 chapter mention

  795. And the Old Testament predicted Jesus

  796. would be a servant. I mean, that's one

  797. thing that the Jews,

  798. you know, really missed on.

  799. Nobody expects God to be a servant.

  800. That's still the popular thing out

  801. there.

  802. No one expects God to be a servant. No

  803. one expects God to come and pay for our

  804. sin. This isn't man's idea. It's God's

  805. idea. And that's what he says here in

  806. verse 7. Being made of no reputation,

  807. took upon him the form of a servant.

  808. There it is.

  809. Don't be shocked that your savior is a

  810. servant. Let him wash your feet, your

  811. old filthy feet.

  812. Let him do it. Let him do it on the

  813. inside with his word. And that's what

  814. Jesus said he would do. He would send

  815. his word to wash us on the inside and

  816. wash us on the outside.

  817. That's what we need. And he has made

  818. that provision.

  819. You know, Jesus, he's just the messenger

  820. to end all messages and and messengers.

  821. I mean, that's what Hebrews says. When

  822. you compare the Old Testament, we need

  823. the Old Testament. Don't throw it away.

  824. It's so important. But Hebrews says, you

  825. know, those were the those were the the

  826. minor prophets.

  827. Jesus is the major prophet.

  828. That was the minor message. Jesus is the

  829. major message.

  830. And that's what he said in John 17. He

  831. came to do his father's will. He he

  832. finished and and uh perfected what the

  833. father wanted to do.

  834. What's it say in Revelation?

  835. I'll mention this one. Revelation 1911.

  836. He that sat on the horse.

  837. John says, "Faithful and true in

  838. righteousness make war and judge."

  839. That's what this world needs.

  840. Needs the Lord to come back. It's not

  841. going to get any better.

  842. In fact, it's getting progressively

  843. worse.

  844. But rest assured, we have a savior in

  845. heaven who is faithful and true in

  846. righteousness. He's going to make war

  847. and judge.

  848. And the reason being is because, you

  849. know, he he did everything perfectly.

  850. He's earned the right,

  851. you know, as a man, as the god man to

  852. rule and reign over um this universe.

  853. And one man said, "How great is this

  854. revelation and how great is this

  855. redemption?"

  856. Well, it's great, isn't it? That's why

  857. we're here. We're here to worship and to

  858. praise and to pray to this one who is

  859. the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. I

  860. see those signs around. People have good

  861. intentions. It says Jesus is King. Well,

  862. they're a little short. He's the King of

  863. Kings.

  864. Turn to John chapter 3.

    John 3 chapter mention

  865. This this is so sealed.

  866. You know, that's what it says, what

  867. Revelation says. It's sealed. Count on

  868. it. Everything in this book is going to

  869. happen. And here in John chapter 3

    John 3 chapter mention

  870. and verse three,

  871. I'll get there eventually.

  872. John chapter 3 and verse

    John 3 chapter mention

  873. 13.

  874. You know, that was a great thing about

  875. Jesus. That's why they said no one ever

  876. spoke like this man. You know, he he

  877. knew things they didn't know.

  878. even with the Old Testament. I mean,

  879. he's he's greater

  880. far greater

  881. than the prophets, far greater than the

  882. prophecies. The Savior is far greater.

  883. God is far greater.

  884. And that's what Jesus says here. If I

  885. told you earthly things and you believe

  886. not, you know, they Jesus, can you give

  887. us the lottery numbers for tonight's

  888. lottery?

  889. Could he have done that? easily.

  890. He didn't.

  891. He's here for a far greater reason.

  892. But he that came down from heaven, even

  893. the son of man who is in heaven here,

  894. he's the he's the son of God and the son

  895. of man. It's, you know, don't short

  896. change him,

  897. you know, about these things. Now, look

  898. over in chapter 2

  899. in verse 24. I thought of this, too.

  900. remember when this happened? Um it was

  901. about the temple and they were a little

  902. upset and that was the other thing that

  903. you know they couldn't take hold of him

  904. until

  905. he was ready.

  906. So there was a there is a holding back.

  907. Jesus could hold back things

  908. and he could let things go.

  909. And here he he just uh now when he was

  910. in Jerusalem at the Passover,

  911. the feast of many days, many believed in

  912. his name when they saw the miracles,

  913. which he did. See, that's the problem

  914. with believing in miracles and not

  915. believing in Jesus. The people did it

  916. who actually saw the real miracles.

  917. And Jesus, he did not commit himself to

  918. them because he's omnipresent.

  919. He knew they weren't going anywhere.

  920. They were just there for the get their

  921. bellies full and see the see the uh

  922. miracles.

  923. And need not that any should testify of

  924. man. He knew what was in man. Every

  925. person that Jesus talked to, he knew

  926. everything about him.

  927. And that just astounded the woman at the

  928. well remembered, he said, "You must be

  929. God."

  930. And Jesus said, "If you knew the gift

  931. and and me who can give this gift to

  932. you,

  933. you would receive it." Look in John

    John 5:19

  934. chapter 5, verse 19. We're hitting a few

  935. of these in John chapter 5

    John 5 chapter mention

  936. and verse 19.

  937. Then said Jesus unto them, "Verily,

  938. verily, I say unto you, the Son can do

  939. nothing of himself."

  940. Here's that servant. Here's that of no

  941. reputation.

  942. Here's that man's side of him submitting

  943. to his father.

  944. But what he see the father do,

  945. whatever things he he does, these things

  946. the son will do in the same manner. See,

  947. some people try to use that verse to say

  948. Jesus isn't God. Well, no. I'm sorry.

  949. You got it all wrong. That verse says

  950. Jesus is God.

  951. He's the son of the father. He's the son

  952. of God. He's the son of man

  953. and he's equal to his father.

  954. So there were times that in his humanity

  955. he denied himself for his father and for

  956. his father's will. Turn to Matthew 26.

  957. Matthew chapter 26

    Matthew 26 chapter mention

  958. and verse

  959. 63.

  960. 2663.

  961. Now this is remember he was

  962. I don't know how he did it.

  963. He got spit on. He had a a crown of

  964. thorns put on his head. He was dripping

  965. great drops of blood. He went through

  966. incredible suffering

  967. for us.

  968. to pay for our sins.

  969. And that's what we have here in chapter

  970. 26 and verse 63. Jesus

  971. held his peace.

  972. Aren't you glad?

  973. He held his peace.

  974. And the high priest answered and said

  975. unto him, I adjure thee by the living

  976. God. Come on, Jesus. You know, we can't

  977. believe you. Why don't you swear on God?

  978. And they're talking to to God. This is

  979. how they're treating God

  980. that you will tell us whether you be the

  981. Christ, the son of God.

  982. It's a sham because he's already told

  983. him that on numerous occasions. But here

  984. we see him holding his peace

  985. as a man. He could have just

  986. unleashed everything on them and they'd

  987. all be in hell and so would we.

  988. But he didn't.

  989. He suffered these things that

  990. Philippians is telling us about for a

  991. reason.

  992. Now look over in um chapter 26

  993. and verse 53.

  994. out of this one.

  995. He says

  996. this is when

  997. poor old Peter about committed murder as

  998. Jesus is going to the cross. That that's

  999. a you know that's a good example of us.

1000. That's what we can do. We can murder

1001. people that are trying to get to Jesus

  1002. and hear Jesus.

1003. But Jesus made it all well.

1004. He's the son of God.

1005. But notice what he says here in verse 30

  1006. 53.

  1007. What you thinking, Peter?

  1008. Think about this.

1009. That I cannot now pray to my father.

1010. Here he is subjecting to the father.

1011. And he will presently give me more

1012. than 12 legions of angels.

1013. But how then shall the scriptures be

1014. fulfilled that this must be? So here we

1015. see the son of God submitting himself to

  1016. the father's will for a reason

1017. and it's our redemption to go to the

1018. cross to have that crown of thorns put

  1019. on his head

1020. and to have his own own disciples his

1021. own apostles deny him and flee.

  1022. He died alone

1023. just as the scripture said.

1024. So, you know, we can look at creation

1025. and that's not God. I love creation,

  1026. but that's pantheism.

1027. You know, God God is somehow in the

1028. universe. And when we look at the

1029. universe, we see God. That's pantheism.

1030. That's not what God is. He's above his

  1031. creation,

1032. but we can see him in his creation,

1033. can't we? You know, wow, what what a

  1034. mighty God we have.

1035. But when we look at man, there's no one

1036. we can look at and find God in a man

  1037. except Jesus.

1038. Turn to First John chapter 3.

    1 John 3 chapter mention

1039. So if you're looking for God,

1040. take a long hard look at Jesus and there

1041. you will find him. First John chapter 3.

    1 John 3 chapter mention

1042. So we're, you know, now we're waiting on

1043. this man to come back.

1044. You know, he's not a spirit up there in

1045. heaven, you know, you know, not being

1046. seen or recognized or known. No, he's

1047. went back to heaven where he's

1048. recognized and known for what he did on

  1049. this earth

1050. and he went through a change.

1051. He can't come back and reverse

  1052. everything.

1053. Now he is who he is. And that's what the

1054. book of Revelation breaks forth with.

1055. But in first John chapter 3,

    1 John 3 chapter mention

1056. what manner of love verse one the father

1057. has bestowed upon us? How do God the

1058. father bestow his love on us? Through

1059. his son that we just spoke about

  1060. in his word.

1061. So this revelation and this redemption

1062. can be found in the same person.

1063. But the point here is

  1064. that we are

1065. God wants us to be righteous like him.

1066. God wants us to be righteous like his

1067. son. Not not selfrighteous. That's

1068. wrong. But righteous like his son

  1069. for a reason.

1070. Because someday we're going to be

  1071. without sin.

1072. No flesh will be gone forever.

  1073. Jesus has glorified

  1074. flesh in heaven.

1075. And here we see uh now we know the

1076. children of God. It does not yet appear

1077. what we shall be. So, as we start

1078. talking about us leaving this life and

1079. going on to the next one, what are we

1080. going to just be dead in the ground and

1081. go back to the dust and cease to exist?

1082. Nope. Not at all. Now we have hope. Now

1083. we have redemption. Now we have this

1084. revelation. Now God has become our

1085. father and we're children of God.

1086. There's nothing like being a child of

  1087. God. Nothing like it.

  1088. He's a good God. He's a great God. He's

1089. a good father. In fact, we call him

  1090. father.

1091. Verse three. And every man that has this

1092. hope. What hope? My hope rests in Jesus.

1093. My hope rests in the son of man and in

1094. the son of God. Nowhere else

  1095. except in him.

1096. And then this says, I should be

1097. purifying myself as he is pure. So a

1098. great change has to happen before we go

1099. to heaven. Paul says the flesh and blood

1100. will not inherit heaven. You know, we

1101. need to change. We need this

1102. transformation. We need this uh new

1103. glorified body that we're going to come

1104. out of the grave with when he returns.

  1105. He's done it all.

1106. Rest assured that you can trust him as

1107. your Lord and your Savior and your

1108. Redeemer and even our the revelation of

1109. the word of God. He's it. We don't need

1110. anything else but him. Let's pray.

1111. Father, we thank you for your son

1112. and we're amazed at your love. We're

1113. amazed at your grace. We're amazed at

1114. your mercy upon us sinners.

1115. And that's just what it is, Father. It's

  1116. your love.

1117. We thank you for it.

1118. And we do know your love through Christ.

1119. We do know that you love us through him

1120. and in him. You'll never leave us nor

1121. forsake us because of him. So, Father,

1122. we give thanks for this great and

1123. precious gift of your son and we pray in

  1124. his name. Amen.

  1125. I see you.

  1126. >> Morning Martha.

  1127. >> Good morning.

  1128. >> How are you?

1129. >> As we go from this place

1130. you more, trusting you more.

1131. May the power of your love and the light

1132. of your word shine well to a sin

1133. darkened world as we go from this
