  1. been doing a sound doctrine series and

  2. we have been on the gohead

  3. for some time now and looked at the

  4. father and looked at the holy spirit

  5. and the last few weeks and months

  6. actually we've been looking at at the

  7. son of god Jesus and he is

  8. he is all in all as Paul says in

  9. Ephesians so I will never run out of

  10. stuff to study and talk about with

  11. Jesus.

  12. We've been looking at his miracles and

  13. what he said about them, what the

  14. apostles said about them, how important

  15. they are and how they can play a part in

  16. our faith.

  17. And you know these these men that wrote

  18. the New Testament, you know, they were

  19. there with Jesus and they saw many of

  20. many of these things. Turn in your

  21. Bibles if you would to the book of Mark

  22. in chapter 2. We got a few of these

  23. together right here

  24. to get us going. But this message is uh

  25. the signs and the wonders of Jesus.

  26. Signs and wonders of Jesus. And they

  27. don't, you know, all this stuff just

  28. doesn't fit in one bucket, you know.

  29. Okay. Well, that's, you know, miracles

  30. and signs and wonders and, you know,

  31. just put all that in one bucket and

  32. let's move on. That's not the way the

  33. Bible treats these things. The Bible is

  34. very specific about things, you know,

  35. whether it's in the Old Testament or the

  36. New.

  37. And it's good to look at subjects in the

  38. Bible, you know, from Genesis to

  39. Revelation if you can.

  40. And you know, sometimes that's difficult

  41. to do, but we can see,

  42. you know, the Trinity is a that's a good

  43. one. You know, when you look at the

  44. Trinity, you're going to you're going to

  45. go from Genesis to Revelation talking

  46. about that. You know, it's everywhere in

  47. our Bibles, and it's so important to our

  48. theology. We need to believe in a God

  49. who is a triune God.

  50. And that triune God sent the son to

  51. Earth

  52. for a great reason.

  53. And

  54. these signs and wonders and these

  55. miracles were, you know, to authenticate

  56. who he is,

  57. we don't want to follow a God, you know,

  58. who

  59. cannot do miracles because we're in need

  60. of them.

  61. Not necessarily in this life, but in the

  62. life to come to change us, be like him.

  63. So Jesus come to earth

  64. and accomplish these great things for us

  65. um for his father

  66. and we have benefited greatly.

  67. And here in Mark chapter 2

    Mark 2 chapter mention

  68. and verse 12

  69. where I want to begin

  70. and you know by definition

  71. you know we define miracles we've

  72. defined you know those things and and

  73. we've looked at at healings that Jesus

  74. did

  75. and we know when Luke began

  76. his book of Acts, he said he talked

  77. about many infallible proofs

  78. and and that's what we have here this

  79. morning, many more infallible proofs to

  80. go with the miracles and and the things

  81. that Jesus did.

  82. So, we have the the gospels and the

  83. gospel writers

  84. point some of these things out for us

  85. and and Mark does here. We've gotten two

  86. or three chapters here in Mark where we

  87. can get a running start with this. But

  88. you know, Jesus even did this when he

  89. was teaching. You know, he said, you

  90. know, why do you think I did that? You

  91. know, and maybe the public, maybe the

  92. Pharisees, and then he'd ask the

  93. apostles.

  94. He's just an incredible teacher.

  95. And you know, they learned so much from

  96. him as we can, too.

  97. So we want to listen to Jesus about

  98. these signs and these wonders.

  99. And here in verse 12 he says immediately

  100. he arose and took up the bed and he went

  101. forth before them all in so much that

  102. they were all amazed and glorified God

  103. saying we never saw it in this fashion.

  104. So,

  105. you know, these are the the wonders, if

  106. you will, the signs that Jesus did. He

  107. he did them to cause

  108. uh amazement with people.

  109. You know, those are those are some of

  110. the things that we encounter when we,

  111. you know, we go somewhere and it's, you

  112. know, that happened to me when I went to

  113. Alaska

  114. and saw that for the first time. I was

  115. in total amazement and total awe. You

  116. know, I I couldn't even talk sometimes.

  117. I was just taking pictures. Michael come

  118. over to me and he said, "Dad, this is

  119. this is incredible. This is greater than

  120. I ever dreamt of to be able to see the

  121. mountains that God has made." And to

  122. give him the glory and the credit for

  123. letting us see them and and be a part of

  124. his kingdom and know him and to know

  125. these things. So for us, you know, the

  126. the beauty of nature as men call it,

  127. it's God's creation. And you know, we

  128. stand in awe sometimes

  129. of God and what he has done. And and

  130. that happened here with these men and

  131. the things that Jesus did, you know, the

  132. the wow factor, you know, wow, no one

  133. ever spoke like him. Wow, nobody ever

  134. did these signs and these wonders and

  135. these miracles. And they were all amazed

  136. and and look at the result. They

  137. glorified God.

  138. That's what we should do, you know. And

  139. that's what we did when we saw the

  140. mountains. It was just like God, you

  141. wow, we are amazed.

  142. And we glorify God then for his

  143. creation.

  144. And here we see this that Jesus did the

  145. same thing. I mean, he he did things

  146. that wowed people. And if you will turn

  147. over to chapter 4,

  148. we got a few of them here in in Mark to

  149. get us going. Mark chapter 4

    Mark 4 chapter mention

  150. and in verse 41.

  151. And you notice that most of these come

  152. after something has something amazing

  153. has happened. So this is the these are

  154. the wonders. These are the signs that

  155. Jesus did. And they feared exceedingly

  156. and said one to another, "What manner of

  157. man is this that the wind and the sea

  158. obey him?"

  159. you know, so you know, Michael and I

  160. were out there on the water in amazement

  161. of those mountains, but you know, we had

  162. a few storms come through, but you know,

  163. Jesus didn't, you know, step in and stop

  164. the storm, but he did hear to let us

  165. know that everything answers to him. You

  166. know, all the wind, all the weather, you

  167. know, the weather is just so

  168. unpredictable

  169. and, you know, we can't even forecast

  170. it, but it answers to Jesus.

  171. And the na all nature answers to Jesus.

  172. And you know this is one of the things

  173. that they saw here was him him walking

  174. on the water. Next one's in chapter 6.

  175. Chapter 6

  176. and verse 51.

  177. Mark chapter 6 and verse 51. This is

    Mark 6 chapter mention

  178. when he walked on the water out to them,

  179. you know. So, the apostles saw Jesus

  180. calm the storm and they saw Jesus walk

  181. on the water.

  182. Pro,

  183. you know, that that should impress you.

  184. You should be amazed if you were an

  185. apostle. And that's exactly what

  186. happened.

  187. And in verse 51 here, he says, "And he

  188. went up unto them into the boat, and the

  189. wind ceased. They were very much afraid.

  190. They were amazed in themselves beyond

  191. measure and wonder." So here's here are

  192. these signs and wonders that

  193. um

  194. that human beings experienced when they

  195. saw

  196. the divinity of Christ shining through

  197. through his human flesh.

  198. Turn to chapter 7 now. Mark in verse 37.

  199. Mark 7

  200. and 37. And Mark, I know there's no

  201. chapter divisions in the original, but

  202. he all these come right at the end of a

  203. chapter. you know, it's just like, you

  204. know, Jesus did something awesome and

  205. outstanding and beyond, you know, human

  206. understanding and it and it just caused

  207. an amazement with the people. In verse

  208. 37,

  209. and they were beyond measure astonished,

  210. saying, "He has done all things well. He

  211. maketh both the deaf to hear and the

  212. dumb to speak." Well, I'd say that would

  213. happen, wouldn't it? somebody that you

  214. know was this way from birth or whatever

  215. had happened to him. Jesus just you know

  216. he did both. Give him he gave him sight

  217. and he gave him um

  218. a good ears to hear. So this same man

  219. Jesus is going to fix our hard-hinging

  220. ears, you know, and our and our our

  221. eyesight that's, you know, not 2020 like

  222. it used to be. We're not going to wander

  223. around heaven. You know, there'll be no

  224. blind people in heaven. Nobody's going

  225. to be wandering around in heaven trying

  226. to see. We're all going to see perfectly

  227. because of Jesus. He's God. He can do

  228. these things. So, we can rest our hope

  229. in him. We can rest our our our heaven

  230. in him, our future in him. Now, turn to

  231. chapter 13 of Mark.

  232. for the next one.

  233. Mark 13

  234. and in verse 22. Mark 13 and verse 22

  235. Jesus even said that they're going to

  236. people me trying to mimic him,

  237. you know. And

  238. can the can the devil do miracles?

  239. No, he can't do miracles. He's not like

  240. God. But he's a deceiver. He's a

  241. trickster.

  242. So, you have to be careful that you

  243. don't get tricked

  244. by these wonders and by these signs. And

  245. and and this was a part of Jesus message

  246. to his people. Beware

  247. of these things. Beware of somebody

  248. trying to amaze you. Beware of somebody

  249. trying to cause you to wonder or trying

  250. to do a sign.

  251. And he says here in verse 22,

  252. for false Christ and false prophets

  253. shall arise.

  254. Now this is, you know, this it's already

  255. gone on. I mean, there are people out

  256. there now, you know, pretending to be

  257. doing miracles.

  258. They can't do anything. They're human

  259. beings. But they can deceive like Jesus

  260. or like uh like Satan is a deceiver.

  261. And we know now this this was written

  262. before the book of Revelation. So we

  263. know we have Revelation chapter 13 which

    Revelation 13 chapter mention

  264. is the the chapter on the antichrist and

  265. we can connect that with 2 Thessalonians

  266. where Paul said that you know the

  267. mystery of iniquity already works.

  268. So, what's going on?

  269. And you know, Satan is going to deceive

  270. people by saying and putting people out

  271. there who are pretending to be Christ,

  272. pretending to be the Messiah.

  273. And Jesus says, "Don't believe them.

  274. Don't believe them. They're they're

  275. deceivers. They're not, you know,

  276. they're not me. They're not connected to

  277. me." So, he even warns about these

  278. things.

  279. um being false as he puts it. So turn

  280. over to Luke chapter 10.

    Luke 10 chapter mention

  281. Luke

    Luke 10 chapter mention

  282. chapter 10

  283. and and verse 1.

  284. And remember that, you know, we're going

  285. to look in the book of Acts at some of

  286. these that were passed on to the

  287. apostles. And remember,

  288. here we see 70. the 70 are sent forth

  289. and they went two by two. So

  290. you know that you you're familiar with

  291. this text

  292. and I want to see verse one. And these

  293. things the Lord appointed other 70 also

  294. and they sent them two by two before his

  295. face into every city and every place

  296. where he himself would come.

  297. You know, so Jesus has forerunners here

  298. like you have with John the Baptist. And

  299. these forerunners are going to do

  300. miracles. You know, there there are

  301. people, you know, here's here are 70

  302. people, you know, that that did, you

  303. know, different things. We don't have

  304. everything that they did, but we have we

  305. have several of them here.

  306. And remember his original the original

  307. 12, you know, he appointed them to do

  308. that to go and preach and go to Israel

  309. first. But here we see once Jesus

  310. ministry gets public and opens up, you

  311. know, he's bringing more people in to

  312. help and and to be disciples

  313. and and to be a forerunner for him

  314. coming into the cities and they they did

  315. miracles. Uh these people did in

  316. anticipation of Jesus coming behind

  317. them, you know. So the miracle went and

  318. then the confirmation of Jesus come

  319. behind him and then you know that

  320. probably would

  321. you know I don't know what I would have

  322. done if I would have been been turned

  323. loose but we can just imagine you know

  324. being able to do this kind of thing

  325. under his authority

  326. and with his permission.

  327. And remember the 12 that he's going to

  328. bring to himself in the upper room, you

  329. know, they're going to, you know,

  330. everyone's going to leave him

  331. and then he's going to be down to the

  332. 12. But these men, you know, these men

  333. were here when this happened. You know,

  334. they didn't just all of a sudden start

  335. doing miracles for Jesus in the book of

  336. Acts.

  337. So many missed this, you know, giant

  338. step. So as an apostle, they were as

  339. apostle. So here they are being a part

  340. of these 10 and look what happens when

  341. they return in verse 17.

  342. And the 70 returned with joy saying Lord

  343. even the demons are subject unto us

  344. through thy name. So the connection back

  345. to Jesus and to his name. So they knew

  346. it. You know that this wouldn't have

  347. happened if it hadn't been for Jesus.

  348. And and he and remember he said I chose

  349. you. He and he chose these 70, you know,

  350. he every time he did something, he chose

  351. people and he chose the 12 out of here,

  352. you know, and and they're going to and

  353. when we get to the book of Acts, you

  354. know, after he goes to the cross and

  355. dies, which they're they don't, you

  356. know, they haven't fully comprehended

  357. all that,

  358. you know, but they're going to go back

  359. to being his apostles once he restores

  360. them and the church age takes off. And

  361. notice what Jesus said. I beheld Satan's

  362. lightning. You didn't do anything.

  363. Jesus did it.

  364. So the demons were subject to these 70,

  365. but they were subject to these 70

  366. because Jesus withheld Satan as he says

  367. here.

  368. You know, this is sort of what guess

  369. what's going to happen, you know, when

  370. he's locked up in abyss for for a while

  371. there in the book of Revelation.

  372. And you know Jesus said, "Behold, I give

  373. unto you power to tread on serpents."

  374. Who gave it? They didn't ask for it.

  375. They didn't deserve it. They didn't earn

  376. it. They weren't, you know, he gave it

  377. to them

  378. for this purpose that they might learn

  379. these things and that they he might go

  380. behind them and preach.

  381. And he said, you know, you had power

  382. over scorpions and the enemy, and

  383. nothing by any means shall hurt you,

  384. and the the spirits were subject unto

  385. you, but rejoice that your names are

  386. written down in heaven. Now, here's

  387. where he goes to him privately up in

  388. verse 23. He turned unto his disciples

  389. and said privately, blessed are the eyes

  390. who see these things that you see. You

  391. know, so it's a revelation

  392. from Jesus here that that that the

  393. devil, Satan himself,

  394. answered to Jesus,

  395. you know. So, these are some of these

  396. signs and these wonders that these men

  397. experienced when they were on the he was

  398. on the earth with them. Now, jump over

  399. to the book of Acts.

  400. So, you know, this is what the early

  401. church did. You know, he Jesus said,

  402. "You're going to you're my apostles."

  403. You know, he way back there, remember

  404. when he called him in Matthew 10, go and

  405. that, you know, there were 70 that, you

  406. know, experienced this. And he brings it

  407. down to 12.

  408. And to those 12 were the men who the

  409. foundation of the church is built on.

  410. And here in chapter 3 and verse 10,

  411. and they knew that it was he who sat for

  412. arms and at the beautiful gate of the

  413. temple, and they were filled with wonder

  414. and amazement

  415. at that which had happened unto him. How

  416. can you not, you know, see somebody

  417. healed that was, you know, one of your

  418. loved ones

  419. being healed by one of the apostles.

  420. And, you know, here here's the case.

  421. And and we read on down through this in

  422. verse 11. the lame man who was healed.

  423. He held Peter and John and all the

  424. people and ran together unto them

  425. uh in the porch which was Solomon's

  426. greatly wondering. So that's the result

  427. of this upon the people that saw it.

  428. amazement

  429. that, you know, the the church of Jesus,

  430. you know, he's he's not going to set up

  431. a kingdom yet, Jews, we're going to

  432. bring the Gentiles in. That's a whole

  433. book of Acts.

  434. And the greatest thing is the new birth.

  435. But as Jesus used miracles to get the

  436. apostles going uh to to understand what

  437. this was about, this is about your name

  438. being written down in the book of life.

  439. Not that demons are subject to you.

  440. So many people want to get sidetracked

  441. here. Now turn over to chap chapter 2

  442. and verse 11.

  443. That's the result of the gift of

  444. tongues. And we're going to talk about

  445. that when we get to the church.

  446. But here look that that's what happened

  447. you know when everyone heard everyone

  448. speak in their own language try that

  449. you know we might learn a word or two

  450. but to have a conversation about

  451. theology in your own language with

  452. someone that's what happened here this

  453. is where the church began

  454. at the day of Pentecost

  455. and here in Acts chapter 2 verse 11

    Acts 2:11

  456. and the Creians and the Arabians,

  457. we do hear them speak in our own sorry

  458. language

  459. the wonderful works of God. That's what

  460. it's all about.

  461. The miracles, the ones that Jesus did

  462. confirming him and his message. The

  463. miracles that the the early church did

  464. were confirming him and his message just

  465. like John the Baptist said.

  466. Did we get the right one or look we for

  467. another? No, we've got the right one.

  468. And and we have so much of the history

  469. of the church here in the book of Acts.

  470. But that now we've made the transition

  471. from the Gospels and into the book of

  472. Acts. Um go to 1 Corinthians chapter 16.

    1 Corinthians 16 chapter mention

  473. You know, some of the churches were

  474. started by miracles and some of them

  475. were not, but they were all so they were

  476. all started by the word of God and the

  477. gospel of Jesus Christ.

  478. And here in Acts, no 1 Corinthians

  479. 16

  480. and verse 8,

  481. I saw this last week when pastor was

  482. preaching. Sorry pastor, I got a little

  483. distracted during your message.

  484. But look what look what Paul this is one

  485. of the very this is one of the very

  486. first churches.

  487. Thessalonian church

  488. and first Corinth in the current corner.

  489. Nowhere in Thessalonians does Paul say

  490. you know start a miracle crusade

  491. you know start a healing crusade you

  492. know start a signs and wonders crusade.

  493. No, Paul says, "Preach the gospel."

  494. That's how the church started in

  495. Thessalonica.

  496. Now, the church in Corinth, it's a

  497. different story there. There it was one

  498. of the first churches. So, it came along

  499. early. But by the time Paul gets to the

  500. end of this chapter,

  501. um, in verse eight, he says, "But if I

  502. tar at Ephesus until Pentecost, Paul, is

  503. Paul going to have another Pentecost and

  504. call down from heaven, you know, the

  505. Holy Spirit and other people speak in

  506. tongues and repeat what's already

  507. happened?" He doesn't do that at all.

  508. He

  509. and notice how he hands us this off to

  510. Timothy.

  511. You know, I don't know that Timothy did

  512. miracles. I don't think he did.

  513. You know, we have no evidence of that.

  514. And we're Titus. The ones we have are

  515. the the original 12

  516. and the the original people at the

  517. Jerusalem church. But by the time the

  518. church gets out here, you Paul, you

  519. know, they did some miracles in Corinth,

  520. but the church is going. And he says

  521. here, "A great door and effectual is

  522. opened unto me. There are many

  523. adversaries.

  524. Now if Timothy come see that he may be

  525. with you without fear for he works the

  526. work of the Lord as I do.

  527. You know Paul says Timothy and we're

  528. doing the same thing and that's

  529. preaching the gospel of Christ the the

  530. gospel of grace. You know did Paul do

  531. miracles? Yeah. We're going to look at

  532. that. And Paul hands this off to

  533. Timothy. But nowhere did he say here

  534. Timothy take my gift of healing or my

  535. gift of of of signs and wonders or

  536. whatever. Paul ends up in second Timothy

  537. in my leadus at the end of his life like

  538. the all of us do ready to die.

  539. Who wants to stay here in the shape this

  540. world's in and the shape we're in? Not

  541. me. I want to go on. My hope is in

  542. heaven.

  543. But the gospel is what started these

  544. churches. And I know there were miracles

  545. that in Acts 16, the church in Philippi.

  546. I was thinking about that. So I went

  547. back and read. Sure enough, you know,

  548. Paul casts out the demon and then God

  549. sends the earthquake. So a miracle

  550. started the church in Philippi. Couple

  551. of them, you know. So, you know, people

  552. were seeing that, you know, God has, you

  553. know, the gospel preachers have power

  554. over demons. And how do we have power

  555. over demons? Because we preach the

  556. gospel that can get you out of hell and

  557. get you away from your sin and away from

  558. all the demons and put you in the

  559. kingdom of God.

  560. That's the gospel Paul preached. That's

  561. the gospel that Timothy preached. Now,

  562. turn back to Acts chapter 14.

    Acts 14 chapter mention

  563. And you know the uh the early apostles

  564. they called themselves

  565. servants but all of Paul's letters start

  566. with him being a servant.

  567. And the other thing that they call

  568. themselves was witnesses.

  569. You know, we saw this. They're eye

  570. witnesses to the truth that that Jesus

  571. Christ of Nazareth and and the son of

  572. God are they're the same person.

  573. So, they witness to that. That's what

  574. the Bible does. It witnesses to us that

  575. fact and that great truth.

  576. And here in Acts chapter 14

    Acts 14 chapter mention

  577. and in verse 8,

  578. that's what that's what we have here.

  579. And there was a certain man in Atlaia,

  580. impotent in his feet, being crippled

  581. from his birth. He had never walked.

  582. So here we see this power that Jesus had

  583. and he sent his apostles to go into the

  584. world and preach the gospel and he said

  585. I will be with you and here he is with

  586. them. You know the power of Jesus here

  587. is healing these people not these men

  588. and a certain man of Listra impotent. We

  589. read that and Paul spoke to him and and

  590. he if you have faith uh to be healed

  591. stand up on your feet and he leaped and

  592. walked. How can you not be amazed

  593. you know if you're there? Wow. But this

  594. is for us to see you know that's who

  595. we're following. We're following the

  596. Jesus of Nazareth that it doesn't matter

  597. what illness or sickness or sin you

  598. have, he can heal you from it. Maybe not

  599. in this life, but in the life to come.

  600. And you know, these men go on to preach

  601. the gospel. And the witness part is uh

  602. down there in verse 17. Nevertheless,

  603. this is this is uh Luke's summary, you

  604. know, of the whole thing. Nevertheless,

  605. he left not himself without a witness

  606. in good and gave us rain from heaven

  607. fruitful and our hearts and our food

  608. were filled with gladness. God is good.

  609. So, you know, that's what we need to

  610. know. You know, we don't get, you know,

  611. these great things from God because we

  612. deserve them. we get these great things

  613. from God because he's generous and he's

  614. good.

  615. And um he goes on to talk about those

  616. things there. Now turn over to Romans 15

  617. Romans chapter 15. This is where, you

    Romans 15 chapter mention

  618. know, Paul Yeah. He Yeah. Paul did.

  619. Miracles,

  620. but Paul didn't do them. Jesus did them

  621. through Paul because Paul was

  622. proclaiming and preaching the gospel.

  623. And the in the early church, the

  624. foundation is built on these men and

  625. their gospel preaching,

  626. but they're on the foundation of Christ.

  627. But Paul tells us that in Ephesians for

  628. the Jew and the Gentile, you know, we

  629. both have a redeemer. Now, he's the same

  630. redeemer.

  631. And here Paul uh mentions this about

  632. himself in verse 19.

  633. And here's where Paul says, "Signs and

  634. wonders." You know, Mark said Jesus did

  635. signs and wonders.

  636. You know, it came from him. The power

  637. came from him. Here Paul did uh signs

  638. and wonders by the power of the spirit

  639. of God. Not Paul.

  640. So that from Jerusalem and roundabout

  641. unto I whatever that word is Iconium

  642. I have fully preached the gospel of

  643. Christ. So the full gospel is you know

  644. that

  645. you know Jesus is the son of God. Jesus

  646. is the son of man. Jesus died for our

  647. sins. He's our substitute. God is our

  648. savior. Jesus shed his blood for us. And

  649. that's what Paul preached.

  650. And that's how these churches were

  651. started. And you know, he doesn't say,

  652. you know, Timothy come along after me.

  653. He was the next pope, you know, and I

  654. laid hands on him and he healed

  655. everybody, too. No, Paul says it it it

  656. stopped with us. And it even stopped

  657. before the book of second Timothy where

  658. Paul is in my lead sick.

  659. So this is sort of just a big overview

  660. of what Jesus did, what he said, how he

  661. taught

  662. and and a miracle is not just a wonder.

  663. Turn back to Isaiah.

  664. Isaiah

  665. and go to chapter 7.

  666. Isaiah chapter 7 and verse 10.

    Isaiah 7 chapter mention

  667. Yeah. Here's a couple of these verses

  668. that

  669. we're not maybe as familiar with as we

  670. should be. And here in in Isaiah 7

  671. and verse 14,

  672. therefore

  673. the Lord himself,

  674. where do miracles come from? The Lord

  675. himself, not from men,

  676. but from God.

  677. And God has done, you know, things

  678. through men like Paul, like Peter, like

  679. John, like the original apostles.

  680. And even Moses, you know, we he's in

  681. there. Elijah, he's in there. I mean,

  682. the men that God did miracles through,

  683. you know, they're they're throughout our

  684. Bible. It's not all of our Bible, but

  685. it's all over the Bible. And every time

  686. is to give a witness to what God has

  687. said.

  688. And here's a here's an example of a sign

  689. not necessarily being a miracle or not

  690. necessarily being, you know, a a a great

  691. wonder.

  692. Here's a verse. The Lord himself will

  693. give you a sign. Behold, the virgin

  694. shall conceive and bear a son, and you

  695. will call his name Emanuel.

  696. So, the Lord is going to send Emmanuel,

  697. who is God with us, to a virgin, and

  698. that's called a sign here by Isaiah.

  699. And then, um, if you will look over in

  700. chapter

  701. uh, 38,

  702. Isaiah chapter 38,

    Isaiah 38 chapter mention

  703. and you know what Luke says, you know,

  704. we're going to see that in a minute. the

  705. the great miracle of the incarnation.

  706. Yeah, that's a miracle.

  707. But the the prophet says pointing saying

  708. the Messiah is going to come

  709. through a virgin.

  710. And here in Isaiah 38:7,

    Isaiah 38:7

  711. "And this shall be a sign unto thee from

  712. the Lord

  713. that the Lord will do this thing that

  714. has been spoken."

  715. So a sign is God doing what he said he

  716. was going to do, and that was to send

  717. the Messiah.

  718. And we know that the Messiah is God. God

  719. in the flesh. Now turn to to Mark

    Mark 16 chapter mention

  720. chapter 16.

  721. And this Emmanuel is going to

  722. demonstrate for us the love of God and

  723. the grace of God, the mercy of God, the

  724. goodness of God,

  725. all those wonderful things that Jesus

  726. is. He's the all and all. In him are all

  727. the treasures of the Godhead hidden.

  728. And you know these men,

  729. Matthew, Mark, Luke, John

  730. spent quite a bit of time with him,

  731. three and a half years.

  732. And here we see in Mark chapter 16

    Mark 16 chapter mention

  733. and they went forth

  734. and they preached everywhere

  735. the Lord working with them

  736. confirming the word with signs

  737. following. Amen. That's Mark well he

  738. sums it up. Here's here's what we did.

  739. Preached him and and there are miracles.

  740. Yes, for sure. And they don't want us to

  741. get blinded by these kind of things,

  742. by the miracles and by the wonders.

  743. Yeah, he did them, you know, but don't

  744. don't hang your salvation on a miracle.

  745. Hang it on Jesus.

  746. Go to John chapter 2

    John 2 chapter mention

  747. and verse 18.

  748. You know, John, his gospel is a little

  749. bit different than the synoptic gospels.

  750. You know, that you read read them, you

  751. can see that right away. And you know,

  752. one's not better than the other, but you

  753. know, they have a different

  754. a different but a same message.

  755. And here John when he talks about the

  756. miracles of Jesus, he doesn't use that

  757. word.

  758. The other guys do, you know, Luke, we've

  759. seen in in, you know, in the book of

  760. Acts, we've seen in the book of Luke,

  761. you know, Luke used that word. Mark used

  762. that word. Matthew used that word to

  763. describe some of the things that Jesus

  764. did. But what John's unique about, he

  765. doesn't use that word.

  766. miracle. He uses the word sign.

  767. And everywhere in the Gospel of John,

  768. your Bible is translated, if you got a

  769. KJV,

  770. miracle,

  771. it should be sign.

  772. And it starts here in the very first

  773. miracle

  774. in John chapter 2 verse 18.

    John 2:18

  775. And John uses this word miracle a lot,

  776. but it's the word sign. Every time he

  777. uses it, it's a Greek word.

  778. I don't know, there's three or four

  779. Greek words that could be used, you

  780. know, and and you know, there are times

  781. that the word of God, you know, and

  782. that's what we we believe in verbal

  783. plenary inspiration.

  784. The Bible's inspired all the way down to

  785. the words

  786. and the words that the Bible uses.

  787. And here

  788. um the King James made a little mistake

  789. and verse 11, the beginning of the

  790. miracles did Jesus and Ken show sign.

  791. And then if you will jump over

  792. um

  793. to verse 23 and this is where John tells

  794. us about the the people that were

  795. astonished and amazed at the miracle but

  796. remained in unbelief.

  797. You know that this is a dangerous thing.

  798. That's why John

  799. doesn't use the word miracle. He uses

  800. the word sign.

  801. And in verse 23, now when he was in

  802. Jerusalem at the Passover and the feast

  803. many days, many believed in his name,

  804. when they saw the miracles that he did.

  805. So right there is why John doesn't use

  806. the word miracle. It's signed

  807. and people were, you know, they were

  808. wowed by it. How can you not be? But

  809. John says, "They remained in their

  810. unbelief

  811. and needed not that any should testify

  812. of man, for he knew what was in man."

  813. You know, so Jesus even saw people

  814. following him and remaining in unbelief

  815. that actually saw his miracles.

  816. And you know this is a dangerous thing

  817. to do. Very dangerous thing to do. Well,

  818. that um the verses that we have about

  819. Jonah, remember they wanted a sign in

  820. Matthew and Jesus said no more.

  821. The only thing you're going to get is me

  822. coming out of the grave. That's your

  823. sign.

  824. So everything pointed to Jesus. And when

  825. you remain an unbelief

  826. after everything's pointed to Jesus,

  827. that's a great sin. Terrible sin. We're

  828. going to see it in the Old Testament

  829. here in a second. And um let's go ahead

  830. and turn back there.

  831. Turn back to

  832. find the verse.

  833. Exodus chapter 7.

    Exodus 7 chapter mention

  834. Exodus chapter 7. I'm running out of

    Exodus 7 chapter mention

  835. time and I don't want to miss this.

  836. We we talked about Moses last week or

  837. the week before and the miracles that he

  838. did.

  839. And you know the the Egyptians have the

  840. all the plagues listed on their their

  841. scrolls and in their literature. There's

  842. no doubt this stuff happened. There's no

  843. doubt for us because God said it, not

  844. the Egyptians.

  845. But these things are real.

  846. And here in Exodus 7 and verse 8, the

  847. Lord spoke to Moses and to Aaron, he

  848. says, "When Pharaoh shall speak unto

  849. you, saying,

  850. show a miracle

  851. for you, then you shall say unto Aaron,

  852. take the rod and cast it before Pharaoh,

  853. and it shall become a serpent." Wow,

  854. there's a miracle.

  855. And this is not Moses and Aaron doing

  856. that. This is God.

  857. Pharaoh is not arguing with men. He's

  858. arguing with God.

  859. And notice what he does. He wanted a

  860. miracle. God gave him one. He remains in

  861. unbelief.

  862. He goes on, "And Moses and Aaron went

  863. unto the Pharaoh, and they did as the

  864. Lord had commanded.

  865. And then Pharaoh also in verse 11,

  866. here's the great sin. He called for his

  867. wise men and his sorcerers. God gave him

  868. what he wanted and he remains in

  869. unbelief.

  870. This is a terrible sin. This is where

  871. God hardens uh Pharaoh's heart for that.

  872. And verse 12, for they cast down every

  873. man his rod, and they became serpents,

  874. and and Aaron's rod swallowed up their

  875. rods.

  876. And he hardened Pharaoh's heart

  877. that hearkened not unto them again, as

  878. the Lord has said. The great sin here is

  879. not, you know, he didn't believe Moses.

  880. He he didn't believe God. Well, that's

  881. what happened when Jesus come to earth.

  882. You know, it's not that we're we're

  883. disbelieving a man. We're disbelieving

  884. God like Pharaoh.

  885. So, you know, God did something good for

  886. Pharaoh.

  887. And all the miracles in the world were

  888. not going to convince Pharaoh. And there

  889. are people,

  890. this group is still exist.

  891. And they're everywhere. They're going to

  892. wonder after the the beast. They're

  893. going to wonder after the lie and the

  894. liar and the antichrist. And the Bible

  895. warns us of that in Revelation chapter

    Revelation 13 chapter mention

  896. 13. It talks about the deceiver to come

  897. and that is the antichrist.

  898. You know, unsaved people are, you know,

  899. they that people that don't know the

  900. Bible, that was me.

  901. You know, that's why it's so important

  902. to have an understanding of the Bible

  903. from back to front about these things.

  904. You know, we have a great God and he's

  905. he's wanting us to follow by faith and

  906. to walk by faith and not by sight. And

  907. you know, here we have Moses

  908. and he was a just man. God sent him. God

  909. picked him out, you know, just like he

  910. did his own son. And Hebrews says a a

  911. greater than Moses is here.

  912. So people are rejecting God when they

  913. don't listen to his son and receive his

  914. son.

  915. So it's, you know,

  916. unbelief.

  917. And again, back to the book of John,

  918. that's what John wants us to see. Go

  919. back to John chapter 2.

    John 2 chapter mention

  920. John doesn't want us to be like Pharaoh

  921. and say, "Oh, well, I'm going to go on

  922. in my own belief." John wants us to see

  923. the Jesus behind and above and beyond

  924. these miracles and these wonders.

  925. And back to John, we go in chapter 2

  926. and we saw these here about the signs in

  927. Canaa

  928. that Jesus did. And that's what John

  929. John calls them

  930. these signs. And we have the one with

  931. John the Baptist that let me find that

  932. one. And it's in chapter 10.

  933. Go to John chapter 10.

    John 10 chapter mention

  934. Here's where that's the blasphemy of the

  935. Holy Spirit. The Pharisees. Oh, come on,

  936. Jesus. Do some more miracles. You are

  937. you really God?

  938. Proof after proof after proof. and they

  939. stayed in their unbelief.

  940. And that's a terrible thing not to

  941. believe God.

  942. And here we have uh in John chapter 10

    John 10 chapter mention

  943. and many resorted unto him and said John

  944. did no

  945. it's in John so it's sign. John did no

  946. sign,

  947. but all things that John said

  948. about this man were true.

  949. So that's what he God wants from us. You

  950. know, we we want to testify

  951. that everything Jesus said is true.

  952. And then that you might believe on him.

  953. That's it. That's the requirement is to

  954. receive the free gift from God and

  955. believe on him.

  956. So you know the again the synoptic

  957. gospels mention signs and wonders and

  958. miracles and and all those things and

  959. that's not wrong. That's that's good.

  960. That's right. But here you see John he

  961. moves all that aside and just gives us

  962. Jesus says believe in it and you will

  963. have everlasting life.

  964. And you know, in Romans chapter 4,

    Romans 4 chapter mention

  965. Paul calls circumcision a sign,

  966. you know, and there's a lot of things

  967. like that. Circumcision can't save you.

  968. There's not a sign that can save anyone.

  969. There's a person though that can't.

  970. And he is the one who who here in verse

  971. 25

  972. said, "I am the way. I am the truth. I

  973. am the life. No man can come to the

  974. father

  975. but by me. In verse 25 there,

  976. he that believeth in me, though he were

  977. dead, yet shall he live. And whosoever

  978. liveth and believeth in me shall never

  979. perish. Do you believe this?

  980. You see where John puts it, he puts it

  981. on Jesus. Believe in him and uh that you

  982. might be saved and that I might be

  983. saved. He is our all and all. Paul said,

  984. "We may not get everything we want in

  985. this life, but we got paradise coming

  986. with each other and with him."

  987. Father, we thank you this morning for

  988. your words.

  989. We thank you for your son. We thank you,

  990. Jesus, for teaching us

  991. that you are greater than miracles.

  992. You're greater than signs. You're

  993. greater than wonders. You're greater

  994. than everything.

  995. And everything came from you. You

  996. created the heavens and the earth. the

  997. galaxies.

  998. You declare your glory and you come to
