  1. Good morning.

  2. >> Open your Bibles if you would

  3. to the book of Ephesians.

  4. We're

  5. still doing our study of sound doctrine.

  6. We're still on the Godhead

  7. looking at um the Father, the Son, and

  8. the Holy Spirit. ensuring that our faith

  9. is resting in a triune God.

  10. That's what the word of God reveals to

  11. us. So

  12. this morning we're going to look at the

  13. decrees of God

  14. and there's

  15. there's several of them. This one sort

  16. of centers in on his fornowledge.

  17. So, we're going to start in the book of

  18. Ephesians,

    Ephesians 1 chapter mention

  19. chapter 1.

  20. And uh

  21. Paul kind of sums it all up here. This

  22. is you're familiar with this section.

  23. We went through the that was one of the

  24. first books I went through when I got

  25. once I got saved and started going to

  26. the Bible class. We went through the

  27. book of Ephesians and really helped me.

  28. And here is where Paul

  29. uh mentions this.

  30. You know, God knows the beginning

  31. uh from the end and everything in the

  32. middle. Our God is a great God

  33. and his decrees are like him.

  34. You know, whatever God says,

  35. you you can take it to the bank and you

  36. can take it to eternity.

  37. So,

  38. uh we have here this morning some of

  39. those decrees

  40. that are just like him.

  41. He's faithful and he he won't let us

  42. down. He's all those great things that

  43. are God is his plan and his purposes,

  44. his decrees

  45. are very similar. God's eternal. God's

  46. unchanging. God is holy. God is wise.

  47. All those things that we know. And God

  48. has a sovereign purpose.

  49. And his existence and our existence.

  50. And we've mentioned his sovereignty

  51. over and over. That's a that's a normal

  52. part of Bible study. That's a normal

  53. part of understanding God. He's

  54. sovereign.

  55. He does as he pleases.

  56. So, you know, we're unable to comprehend

  57. all these great things about him and

  58. about his plan.

  59. You know, we we can't know it like he

  60. knows it, but you know, we know him and

  61. he reveals these things to us. So, we

  62. walk by faith and we trust in him and

  63. his decrees are are very much like him.

  64. And he has these causes and he has these

  65. conditions and he has these purposes

  66. uh if you will.

  67. And here in Ephesians chapter 1,

    Ephesians 1 chapter mention

  68. this is the the longest sentence in the

  69. Bible is from verse three on down to

  70. verse 14. You guys know all that. So

  71. this is just one big long

  72. sentence on this subject.

  73. You know, Paul, he doesn't say, "Well,

  74. let you know, these are new Christians.

  75. Let's let's save this for a couple of

  76. years."

  77. No, he says, "Let's talk about this."

  78. And this was a gentile church

  79. uh here in Ephesus. And you know, that's

  80. who God sent Paul to,

  81. you know, so we don't have a Gentile

  82. writing the New Testament for us

  83. Gentiles. We have a Jew writing the New

  84. Testament for us Gentiles. That's

  85. important.

  86. You know, Paul knew the Old Testament,

  87. didn't he?

  88. So, he was the guy that God used to

  89. reveal his ways to us Gentiles. And here

  90. in Ephesus is a good place where this

  91. happened,

  92. you know, and and God is greater than we

  93. are. We, you know, things are impossible

  94. for us, but nothing is impossible for

  95. God.

  96. So as we look into the word and we see

  97. him reveal himself in this way

  98. um you know these are the plans

  99. that proceed from God. You know we

  100. wouldn't think about going yeah I can we

  101. can freelance a trip right we're just

  102. going to go do what we whatever we want

  103. when we want or we plan things out you

  104. know we know where we're going to be. We

  105. know where we're going to stay. we know

  106. where we're going, you know, and and

  107. that's the way it is with God. He has a

  108. plan, not not just one that he just

  109. started,

  110. but this plan goes back into eternity

  111. with him.

  112. And his plan is perfect. It's like him,

  113. you know, he whatever God does is is

  114. right, correct, true.

  115. you know, add all those things into it.

  116. So there's no sin in God, there's no

  117. wrong in God, there's no evil in God,

  118. but evil has been allowed by God.

  119. So that's another thing that we're going

  120. to talk about as we as we go on here.

  121. But

  122. you know, God is all wise. So he's never

  123. learned a thing. There's nothing that he

  124. doesn't know.

  125. And you know, he's given us light in

  126. this particular area to know what his

  127. plans are like. And and he is all

  128. knowing. He's all wise. All those things

  129. that we know our God is. And in chapter

  130. one

  131. and verse five, I want to zero in on a

  132. couple phrases here

  133. about God and his sovereignty.

  134. In verse five,

  135. he says, "Predestinated us to the

  136. adoption of sons by Jesus Christ to

  137. himself."

  138. Here's what I want. According to the

  139. good pleasure of his will.

  140. So this sovereign God, this all knowing,

  141. all- wise, eternal

  142. uh no mistake God

  143. decided he's going to do this according

  144. to his will and the good pleasure of his

  145. will.

  146. Why are things the way they are? It's

  147. the will of God. You know, some people

  148. think that things have gotten outside of

  149. God's control to the point where, you

  150. know, people are making fun of God.

  151. Oh, God God has not lost control.

  152. But this is at the good pleasure of his

  153. will. And over in verse 9,

  154. we have a similar phrase, having made

  155. known unto us the mystery of his will.

  156. So you know that it's not a problem for

  157. God to make himself known to us and his

  158. will and his ways

  159. but we have to come to the word of God

  160. to find him.

  161. So having made known unto us the mystery

  162. of his will

  163. according to the there's that good

  164. pleasure again which he has purposed

  165. where in himself.

  166. You know, there are things that God has

  167. planned and decreed that are not uh

  168. creature comfortable.

  169. You know, places like hell, things like

  170. judgment, things like the wages of sin,

  171. you know, all those things

  172. um God is going to use and allow, but he

  173. has purposed these things in himself.

  174. So

  175. God is acting

  176. according to his purpose and according

  177. to his will.

  178. And that's where we come in. That's

  179. where, you know, Adam came in, Noah, you

  180. know, Solomon, David, all these all

  181. these wonderful people we learn about in

  182. the Old Testament. Moses, all these, you

  183. know, all these people

  184. have been called of God.

  185. and to his

  186. um to do his will.

  187. So these decrees and these these uh

  188. purposes

  189. originate in the mind of God.

  190. That's where they come forth from.

  191. That's what Paul says here. you know,

  192. let's let's not talk about anything here

  193. until we say this is God and this is

  194. God's plan and he is sovereign. He can

  195. do as he pleases.

  196. He just said that.

  197. And and uh you know this is the very

  198. deep section on these things here. You

  199. know we we cannot rob God of his

  200. sovereignty. We cannot rob God of his

  201. intelligence.

  202. You know, so that's what God tells us.

  203. Good morning.

  204. >> Good morning.

  205. >> So here we are then to

  206. as we begin this to see that, you know,

  207. this is the right of God. Whatever he

  208. purposes, whatever he wills, whatever

  209. he's going to do, he says, "I'm doing it

  210. for myself." It's not necessarily

  211. preacher comfortable.

  212. And you know, that's the sovereignty

  213. that he has.

  214. And

  215. you know, from God, we're going to see

  216. that, you know, from him came the

  217. greatest possible plan.

  218. Um, you know, if you don't like the plan

  219. of God, then go make your own universe

  220. and do your own thing.

  221. But if you're a creature, God's the

  222. creator. He's sovereign over his

  223. creation. He, this belongs to him.

  224. this earth, you know, everything in it

  225. belongs to him and he can do whatever

  226. and however he pleases. So, you know,

  227. God's power is beyond measure. You know,

  228. we can't measure God's power.

  229. Um, his wisdom is beyond measure. We we

  230. can't measure God's wisdom. It's like

  231. him.

  232. But he said, "I'm going to display my

  233. infinite love

  234. through my son. And here's how I'm going

  235. to do it."

  236. You know, and not just to the part where

  237. we come in, but whatever God said back

  238. here and whatever God says over here,

  239. you know, it's the same plan and it's

  240. the same purpose in the word of God.

  241. So, you know, he is the author of this

  242. plan.

  243. That's what Paul's telling,

  244. you know, and not only is he the author

  245. of the plan, he also made it known unto

  246. us. And he did it through his word, he

  247. did it through his prophets.

  248. So, God reveals himself to us. We don't

  249. find him out.

  250. And it's the same about his plan.

  251. You know, we didn't come to God and say,

  252. "Hey, we got a good idea.

  253. I mean, the creatures aren't telling the

  254. creator what to do." Oh, yeah, they are,

  255. but they're in big trouble.

  256. God's going to stick to his plan.

  257. And Paul says there in verse 10, "The

  258. fullness of time that he might gather

  259. together in one." So, you know, God not

  260. only has a plan, he is working it out in

  261. time.

  262. So, things happen the way God has

  263. planned them from eternity past.

  264. And God's not going to stumble.

  265. You know, we've got creatures stumbling.

  266. Adam and Eve, uh, Lucifer, a third of

  267. the angels. We have creatures that fail.

  268. But God will never fail ever at

  269. anything.

  270. Whatever he has said,

  271. he will do.

  272. And his sovereign plan is like him. It's

  273. like his word. God's perfect. His plan

  274. is perfect. His word is perfect.

  275. You know, we have a all these things

  276. going for us because, you know, we're

  277. trusting in the God who is perfect.

  278. We're trusting in a plan that is

  279. perfect.

  280. And look over in chapter 3 of Ephesians

  281. while we're out here.

  282. And that's what Paul tells

  283. these Ephesians. You know, that was a

  284. big deal. The Jews and the Gentiles. You

  285. know what? You know, how can the

  286. Gentiles be on the same footing with the

  287. Jews now? Well, it's because of the

  288. blood of Christ that Paul says there in

  289. verse 13.

  290. And this was God's plan all along.

  291. He says so in verse 5, which in other

  292. ages was not made known unto the sons of

  293. men,

  294. that's everyone, Gentiles, Jews.

  295. Um, but it is now revealed unto his holy

  296. apostles and his prophets by the spirit.

  297. So the spirit brought these things to

  298. Paul to write and to John and to Peter,

  299. you know, and uh human mysteries, some

  300. of them will never get resolved. M

  301. mine's the yellow light, you know. I

  302. wish there was a just a standard, you

  303. know, seconds that the yellow light was

  304. going to be in there, but you don't know

  305. if it's going to turn fast or it's going

  306. to turn slow,

  307. you know, and you know, we may never get

  308. that mystery solved. But, you know, not

  309. so with God, you know, if that's what he

  310. wanted to do, he'd get it resolved. He's

  311. got the wisdom to do it.

  312. and and God is working on greater things

  313. than you know how long the yellow light

  314. should be yellow.

  315. I guess he's leaving that to us. And

  316. then he says in verse 11, remember in

  317. times past, Paul says that's that's in

  318. the Old Testament. You know, the

  319. Gentiles are there, the new birth is

  320. there, the Savior is there, the redeemer

  321. is there for all mankind.

  322. And that's what Paul unfolds here for

  323. these Ephesians.

  324. And that's what verse 12 says. In whom

  325. God, that's where our faith is.

  326. In whom we have boldness and access with

  327. confidence by faith in him. So God has

  328. made this a faith thing. You want to

  329. know God. You want to know his plan. You

  330. want to know his purposes, there's only

  331. you got to come, but you got to come on

  332. God's terms and that's his son.

  333. You know, so humans don't decide what

  334. we're going to do. God's already decided

  335. these things for us. turn to Acts

    Acts 2 chapter mention

  336. chapter 2 just to see

  337. you know how some of these things

  338. happened in Acts chapter 2

    Acts 2 chapter mention

  339. you know these apostles they lived with

  340. Jesus for you know three and a half

  341. years I mean there's no doubt in their

  342. mind who he was you know yet you know

  343. they missed the cross part you know

  344. there that's where they stumbled

  345. And that was part of God's plan.

  346. You know, we you know, it's uh you know,

  347. Jesus was not defeated

  348. by the devil or by the world. No, he

  349. victoriously overcome them.

  350. And that was the message of Peter and

  351. these men in the early book of Acts

    Acts 1 chapter mention

  352. chapter 1 or excuse me, two and verse

  353. 23.

  354. him

  355. being delivered by the determined

  356. counsel in the fornowledge of God.

  357. So the sovereignty of God is in this

  358. plan. This is the plan that God would

  359. die for our sins. You took him by wicked

  360. hands. You crucified and you slain. So

  361. see, you know, there's the the effectual

  362. will of God. There's the permissive will

  363. of God.

  364. You know, God overcome what men do. You

  365. know, like he did that with Job. He did

  366. that uh with Joseph. You meant it for

  367. harm, but God meant it for good. So God

  368. can overrule

  369. these things. And that's, you know,

  370. that's what happened with Judas. That's

  371. a good example.

  372. You know, the devil came to Judas, got,

  373. you know, he got the silver and he got,

  374. you know, talked to the high priest and

  375. he betrayed Jesus.

  376. You know, that God didn't do that.

  377. You know, uh the devil and and a man

  378. named Judas did that. Jesus said it'd be

  379. better for this man if he hadn't been

  380. born.

  381. But, you know, God allows these things

  382. to happen. And God knows what's best.

  383. You know, he his will is never wrong.

  384. His purpose is never wrong.

  385. And you know, that's why Jesus said, you

  386. know, the gates of hell will not prevail

  387. against my church. He said that.

  388. So, you know, that's what's going to

  389. happen. Turn back to Daniel chapter 4.

    Daniel 4 chapter mention

  390. So, God's plan, it's all throughout the

  391. Bible.

  392. God's purposes are all throughout the

  393. Bible.

  394. And here in Daniel chapter 4

    Daniel 4 chapter mention

  395. in verse 35,

  396. you know, this is one of those verses,

  397. you know, Paul could have said when he

  398. was writing to the Ephesians, can you it

  399. for it is written in Daniel 4:35

    Daniel 4:35

  400. and all the inhabitants of the earth are

  401. reputed as nothing and he doeth

  402. according to his will in the armies of

  403. heaven and among the inhabitants of the

  404. earth and none can stay his hand or say

  405. unto him what are you doing

  406. you know so God is

  407. not out of control ever

  408. and again sometimes God's decrees are

  409. not creature comfortable you know

  410. they're they're terrifying if they're

  411. not a believer. They should be.

  412. And then remember over in in Isaiah 6

  413. and:e3

  414. and God says the whole earth is full of

  415. my glory. You know this belong we're on

  416. his property. We're trespassing

  417. on God's property.

  418. So you know his sovereign right is to do

  419. as he pleases.

  420. Not once in a while but his whole

  421. purpose. I mean, he's the one that's

  422. going to bring all these things to pass.

  423. Then there are two two decrees, two

  424. kinds of decrees from God. His

  425. effectuous

  426. and his permissive.

  427. The effectuous won't fail. The

  428. permissive, God allows certain things.

  429. And you know that's Judas. God allowed

  430. Judas and Satan to to betray Jesus. And

  431. then God brought brought it all about

  432. good. That's what Romans 8:28 said.

    Romans 8:28

  433. You know that that all things work

  434. together for good to them. You know,

  435. whatever evil is out there that God is

  436. allowing, he's ultimately going to he is

  437. going to take back his earth.

  438. Turn to Isaiah chapter 46.

    Isaiah 46 chapter mention

  439. Isaiah

    Isaiah 46 chapter mention

  440. chapter 46

  441. and we have all these verses in Isaiah.

  442. You know, God establishes himself. You

  443. having trouble with the sovereignty of

  444. God? Read these chapters in Isaiah about

  445. this. Read in the Psalms about the

  446. subject.

  447. You know, the earth is the Lord's.

  448. We're all trespassing.

  449. But we're not trespassing because he

  450. gave it to us. He said, "Go."

  451. So here in Isaiah 46

  452. and verse 10,

  453. he says here, declaring the end from the

  454. beginning, from the ancient times, the

  455. things that are not yet done.

  456. So

  457. that's a part of God's

  458. knowing. He knows what is going to

  459. happen before it happens.

  460. So nothing is a surprise to him.

  461. My counsel shall stand. I will do

  462. all my pleasure, says God. There's that

  463. sovereign God.

  464. So, you know, the promises and the

  465. warnings

  466. that are in this book are given to us by

  467. a God whose counsel will stand.

  468. And you know, his decrees embrace

  469. everything that comes to pass.

  470. The devil tried to get Jesus to bow down

  471. to him and, you know, join him in this

  472. world. Jesus said, "Nah, I don't think

  473. so.

  474. already got a kingdom.

  475. And you're going to see it, devil.

  476. You're going to see it, Judas. You're

  477. going to see it, Pilate.

  478. So, that's what God says. I don't need,

  479. you know, I don't need human beings to

  480. help me get my kingdom established.

  481. And God does as he pleases. And he holds

  482. everybody responsible for what they do.

  483. And you know, I have purposed it and

  484. I'll do it. He says there at the end of

  485. verse 11. So these are just incredible

  486. verses in Isaiah. Turn over to chapter

  487. 14.

  488. Isaiah,

    Isaiah 14:24

  489. chapter 14,

  490. verse 24.

  491. What's God going to do to this world?

  492. What's God going to do to the sinners?

  493. What's God going to do to the evil?

  494. What's God going to do to the devil?

  495. What's he going to do to the third of

  496. the angels that followed the devil? He's

  497. going to judge them.

  498. Every one of them

  499. by his son.

  500. And the Lord of hosts has sworn saying,

  501. "Surely as I have thought,

  502. God thinks,

  503. you know, and acts." He's the sovereign

  504. God who can do that.

  505. And I will break the Assyrians in my

  506. land and upon my mountain, and tread him

  507. underfoot. Then shall his yoke depart

  508. off of him, and the burden depart off of

  509. their shoulders. And this is the purpose

  510. that is purposed upon the whole earth.

  511. And this is the hand that is stretched

  512. out upon the nations.

  513. For the Lord of hosts has purposed.

  514. And who shall know it? And his hand is

  515. stretched out. Who can turn it back?

  516. Not a man, not a human being, not a

  517. creature, not an angel, not a human

  518. being.

  519. We have the great triune God

  520. running his plan and running his purpose

  521. throughout the whole earth. Turn to

  522. first Samuel.

  523. 1st Samuel

  524. chapter 23.

  525. 1 Samuel 23 11 and 12.

  526. You know, here's why we pray.

  527. You know, we may not not know what to

  528. do, but God does.

  529. He knows what the He knows what's going

  530. to happen to you next week and me and

  531. everyone.

  532. And here

  533. um is David

  534. and you know he's concerned about

  535. himself and and we he says here will a

  536. man of Halia deliver me up into his

  537. hand?

  538. He's asking God, "Will Saul come down?

  539. As thy servant has heard, oh Lord God of

  540. Israel, I beseech you, tell your

  541. servant."

  542. And the Lord said he will come down. So

  543. God knows what people are going to do

  544. before they do it.

  545. Whether they're saved or unsaved,

  546. everyone

  547. thoughts and actions are known by God.

  548. David says, "Will the men of Kalia

  549. deliver me and my men into the land of

  550. Saul?" And the Lord said, "They will

  551. deliver thee up."

  552. You see, God's fornowledge

  553. um he knows everything about us. He

  554. knows our our our ins and our outs and

  555. our ups and our downs.

  556. And turn back to second Timothy.

  557. and you know remember what you know how

  558. many prophets did God have many men have

  559. God used

  560. and he's revealed himself you know to

  561. them

  562. and they've revealed God to us that's

  563. this book that we have

  564. and in second Timothy chapter 1. You

    2 Timothy 1 chapter mention

  565. guys are familiar with this verse

  566. who has saved us and called us with the

  567. holy calling.

  568. This is God, the sovereign God who said,

  569. "I'll do as I please. No one will stay

  570. my hand. No one will change my mind. No

  571. one will find fault with me or my plan."

  572. And it's to a holy calling. You know,

  573. that's important. God wants us. We

  574. didn't start out real well with Adam,

  575. but we're going to end up well in Christ

  576. because of God's great plan.

  577. And not according to our works. You

  578. know, our works are filthy rags. So, we

  579. can't please God. Our flesh is

  580. condemned.

  581. But according to his own purpose, there

  582. it is. God's purpose, God's decree,

  583. and his grace. God said, "I'll just do

  584. it by my grace. I don't need your works.

  585. You're going to hell uh if you try to

  586. get to heaven with your works and

  587. through your works. You have to come by

  588. God's grace and God's purpose, which is

  589. given. You didn't earn it.

  590. given to us in Christ Jesus where and

  591. when?

  592. Before the world began.

  593. So everything and all things that God

  594. has purposed will come to pass.

  595. And he's abolished death. That's some of

  596. my favorite verses

  597. right here.

  598. This is big. Turn over to Titus chapter

    Titus 1 chapter mention

  599. 1.

  600. Titus chapter 1 verse 2.

    Titus 1:2

  601. This gives us hope

  602. to know that this sovereign God

  603. uh has purpose to love us, purpose to

  604. save us, purpose to comfort us, you

  605. know, purpose to take away all the

  606. condemnation that we deserve.

  607. through his son in hope of eternal life

  608. which God who cannot lie promised before

  609. the world began. You got pro. You got

  610. God's promise. That's all you need.

  611. These things he's given to us. He has in

  612. due time manifest his word

  613. through preaching which is committed

  614. unto me according to the commandment of

  615. God

  616. our savior. So that's how God revealed

  617. himself

  618. to us is and his plan is through Paul.

  619. So what you know this is this is God's

  620. great plan

  621. you know it's going to unite us with God

  622. in the end

  623. and you know that's what this book says

  624. even our death you know God even knows

  625. the day we're going to die at Paul says

  626. in 1 Corinthians 15 there about

  627. every man in his own order so God knows

  628. the order that we're going to die the

  629. day were going to die. There's nothing

  630. God doesn't know.

  631. And you know, I guess the question,

  632. you know, you know, why didn't God just

  633. go on being God? Why did he, you know,

  634. create

  635. and put Adam and Eve in the garden?

  636. Why did he even create the angels? Why

  637. didn't he just go on

  638. without us?

  639. Well, that's his sovereign right if he

  640. would have chose that. But that's not

  641. what he chose.

  642. What he chose was this plan, this

  643. purpose that we're involved in here.

  644. So, you know, God, he needs nothing

  645. outside of himself.

  646. You know, he's quite content.

  647. He He doesn't need us,

  648. but he has he has loved us. And this is

  649. the opportunity he had to send his son

  650. to show us his great his great love.

  651. And he didn't do it out of necessity.

  652. You know, I feel sorry for him. I'm

  653. going to I'm going to save him. No, it's

  654. not out of necessity either.

  655. It's that it's he volunteered.

  656. You know, we see that with Jesus in the

  657. in in the Gospels. He's He said, "The

  658. devil can't take my life. The Jews can't

  659. take my life. The Romans can't take my

  660. life. No one can take my life. I'm going

  661. to lay it down."

  662. And lay it down he did. And so it is

  663. with the plan and the purpose of God.

  664. This is a this is a voluntary thing that

  665. God is doing for us

  666. in his purposes.

  667. That's what he's that's what you know

  668. that's where we started in Ephesians

    Ephesians 1 chapter mention

  669. chapter 1.

  670. Why? Well, this is the purpose of God.

  671. This is the will of God according to his

  672. own pleasure.

  673. So again, God's decrees are not out of

  674. necessity. They're not out of uh uh

  675. need, but they are volunteered

  676. by the Trinity.

  677. We have that verse in in Deuteronomy

    Deuteronomy 29:29

  678. 29:29 that says, you know, that God has

  679. revealed some things to us, some things

  680. he has not revealed to us. So, you know,

  681. he's greater than us. His purposes are

  682. greater, you know, than our

  683. understanding.

  684. Turn to John 13.

  685. You know, there were times that Jesus

  686. even told his apostles,

  687. you know, I said something to you and

  688. it's not making sense, but later on it

  689. will.

  690. And you know, the decrees of God, the

  691. sovereignty of God, the purposes of God,

  692. these are great things

  693. and God wants us to know them.

  694. And here in John 13:7,

    John 13:7

  695. Jesus says just that. He answered and he

  696. said unto them, "What I do thou knowest

  697. not now, but thou shalt know hereafter."

  698. So there are great things about God.

  699. There are great things about the word of

  700. God, great things about the plan and the

  701. purpose of God that you know we

  702. we all start out Armenians

  703. and it's the grace of God that we began

  704. to see that these purposes of God, the

  705. sovereignty of God, the grace of God,

  706. these great great things.

  707. And you know, God is a he he's a

  708. mystery.

  709. You can't figure him out.

  710. And so his plan is there are some things

  711. that we don't know that are hidden that

  712. are that are a mystery

  713. uh to us, but they are not to him. He

  714. knows what he's doing.

  715. So the death of his son, as we saw in

  716. Acts chapter 2, that was not a surprise

    Acts 2 chapter mention

  717. to God

  718. at all.

  719. Turn to Psalm 85.

  720. Psalm 85 verse 8.

    Psalms 85:8

  721. Who would have thought God would have

  722. just pardoned us?

  723. And that's what this is.

  724. It's a great pardon. Salvation is a free

  725. gift

  726. and it comes from God.

  727. That is his truth. That is his purpose.

  728. That's where his mercy, that's where his

  729. grace, you know, the mercy seat is where

  730. God met with man. The mercy seat,

  731. Christ, is where God meets with man.

  732. And Jesus said, "Come unto me all ye

  733. that labor and are heavy laden, and I

  734. will give you rest." So if you come

  735. God's way, you'll have that rest. You'll

  736. have that mercy.

  737. And here in Psalm 85:8,

    Psalms 85:8

  738. I will hear what the Lord will speak.

  739. That's all we want to know. What's God

  740. said? You know, I like talking to you

  741. guys and you like talking to me, but

  742. we're here to hear what God said to help

  743. us, you know, talk to each other.

  744. And that's what the psalmist says. What

  745. God say? Well, God says he's sovereign.

  746. God says he's eternal. God says he has a

  747. great plan and a great purpose. God has

  748. paid for our sin. God can give us this

  749. free gift of salvation if we'll come to

  750. him

  751. on his on his terms.

  752. That's what God has said.

  753. So we should say speak Lord I want to

  754. hear

  755. and he will speak peace

  756. to his people. This God thundering on

  757. the mountain

  758. is going to speak peace to his people.

  759. That's us. We're his people.

  760. the one he chose before the foundation

  761. of the world

  762. and to his saints.

  763. But let them not turn again to folly.

  764. That's the holiness of God. He He

  765. doesn't like sin. He doesn't like sin in

  766. us. And it's there, isn't it? In our

  767. thoughts,

  768. in our words, and in our deeds. We're

  769. not like Jesus.

  770. So, we need him. We need his holiness.

  771. God doesn't want us bound up in sin. And

  772. that's what sin does to us. God wants us

  773. freed from those things. Mercy and truth

  774. are met together. Righteousness and

  775. peace have kissed each other. Truth

  776. shall spring out of the earth, and

  777. righteousness

  778. shall look down from heaven. Yay, the

  779. Lord shall give that which is good, and

  780. our land shall yield her increase.

  781. Righteousness shall go before him, and

  782. shall set us in the way of our steps.

  783. You know, God, he's both just and the

  784. justifier of those who come to him

  785. through Jesus.

  786. So, it's based on the wisdom of God,

  787. this plan.

  788. It's based on the grace of God. It's

  789. based on the mercy of God,

  790. this great plan of God.

  791. And, you know, God gave us everything to

  792. enjoy,

  793. you know, out here in the in the world,

  794. as long as it's not sinful.

  795. You know, God's not he's not down on

  796. having a good time.

  797. He just doesn't like sin and he doesn't

  798. like sin in us.

  799. But he gave us all things to enjoy.

  800. That's over and over here. Jesus even

  801. taught that. But that's not our chief

  802. end.

  803. You know, we've got a greater end. And

  804. here the psalmist tells us that. Here

  805. Jesus, you know, told us that. And you

  806. know, God wants us to be like his son.

  807. That's no secret.

  808. and he's equipped us

  809. to be able to do this. Turn over to

  810. Psalm 19.

  811. I don't know if you were out Friday

  812. night, but Friday night was so clear.

  813. I was like, man, I'm going to go back

  814. outside. So, I did. I stayed up late

  815. just gazing into the sky

  816. at this great creation that God has

  817. made.

  818. You know, it people want to try to talk

  819. about evolution on the earth and rob God

  820. of his glory.

  821. Uh

  822. the same with the with the galaxies and

  823. the Milky Way. I mean, we're just

  824. getting started on what's out there.

  825. There's no end to it,

  826. you know, because there's no end to God.

  827. And this great God who created the

  828. heavens and the earth, the stars, and

  829. named every one of them, this all-

  830. knowing God, this all wise God,

  831. decided to love us.

  832. And Psalm 19 talks about

  833. God revealing himself to us. The heavens

  834. declare the glory of God.

  835. The firminant shows his handiwork. You

  836. know, God didn't have to go to school to

  837. learn how to create

  838. and how to run the universe.

  839. Nope. He's doing a good job and he's not

  840. finished. But to us, day to day, utter

  841. speech, night and night, shows

  842. knowledge. So, here we are. We're going

  843. through that that 24hour,

  844. 7 day a week, you know, 12 months in a

  845. year. You know, that's where we are. And

  846. we're not separated from God. God is

  847. just shouting to us through creation

  848. his glory.

  849. There's no speech or language where

  850. their voice is not heard. Wherever you

  851. go,

  852. God is there. We're people are taking

  853. drones now and flying into areas that

  854. we've never been, mapping it and

  855. looking at it. But there's no place on

  856. this earth where God is not. That's what

  857. David said. uh a few centuries ago

  858. and their line is gone out through all

  859. the earth. Their words to the end of the

  860. world

  861. in them

  862. he has set a tabernacle

  863. for the sun.

  864. I don't know how many million years old

  865. millions of years some of those guys

  866. believe in. But you mean to tell me that

  867. son's been there that long? Well, if

  868. it's goes another million, we won't have

  869. to uh get another son. It's not going to

  870. wear down and wear out. That thing come

  871. from God,

  872. the all knowing God, the all- wise God,

  873. the all powerful God.

  874. And you know it,

  875. the the galaxy didn't shut down so we

  876. could go do some maintenance on the sun.

  877. I know we've ruined the earth to some

  878. degree,

  879. but be a good steward with that.

  880. But God is even involved in that. And

  881. it's going forth is from the end of the

  882. heaven. So, so you know, there's nothing

  883. hidden from God

  884. in this infinite universe.

  885. And then David says the law, the word of

  886. the Lord is perfect. Wow. We've got

  887. something that's perfect now.

  888. Like God, his purpose, his plan, his

  889. testimonies,

  890. they're sure.

  891. Making wise the simple. That's us.

  892. The statutes of the Lord are right,

  893. rejoicing the heart. The commandments of

  894. the Lord are pure, enlightening the

  895. eyes. So that's what God's word does for

  896. us.

  897. The fear of the Lord is clean.

  898. Yeah, it's okay to fear God.

  899. But as well, this God that we fear loves

  900. us.

  901. More to be desired of they than gold,

  902. yay, than much fine gold, sweeter than

  903. honey in the honeycomb.

  904. And moreover, by that them is your

  905. servant warned and keeping of them there

  906. is great reward. Here's where we come

  907. in. God's made it real easy.

  908. We just study his word, preach his word,

  909. follow his word,

  910. and we have this gold from heaven

  911. in this life.

  912. And who can understand his errors? We

  913. certainly can't.

  914. We can't even understand our problems.

  915. And God, he not only understands them,

  916. he's fixed them

  917. for us. Now we're going to be rewarded.

  918. Keep back your servant from presumptuous

  919. sins. Let them not have dominion over

  920. me. That's what God hates. For sin to

  921. have dominion over us and us not

  922. enjoying him

  923. and his word. And I will be upright,

  924. says David. I will be innocent from the

  925. great transgression. What's the great

  926. transgression? Not listening to God. Not

  927. giving God the glory for the heavens and

  928. the earth.

  929. It's his. He hadn't surrendered it to

  930. the devil

  931. or to Adam.

  932. He's going to take it back.

  933. Let the words of my mouth, the

  934. meditation of my heart be acceptable in

  935. your sight, oh Lord. See, God knows our

  936. thoughts.

  937. He knows the meditation of our hearts.

  938. There's nothing that this great God

  939. doesn't know.

  940. Um, turn to Romans chapter 9. I'm also

    Romans 9 chapter mention

  941. going to turn to Isaiah 48:11. That's

    Isaiah 48:11

  942. where God chose Israel

  943. and uh go back to Romans chapter 9.

    Romans 9 chapter mention

  944. This is so infinite that God chose the

  945. elect angels. He even knew which ones

  946. were going to rebel on it. He knew all

  947. about it. He knew what was going to

  948. happen in the garden.

  949. He knew all about it.

  950. So that's why he has to choose us

  951. or we'll never come back.

  952. That's another

  953. topic in another day. But here in

  954. Romans chapter 9

    Romans 9 chapter mention

  955. in verse 23,

  956. you're familiar with this.

  957. God knew that Israel was going to reject

  958. the Messiah.

  959. He knew Judas was going to betray his

  960. son. There's nothing that God doesn't

  961. know.

  962. And here we have

  963. chapter 9 verse 23. This is

  964. this section is hard for some people,

  965. but you know, God,

  966. he this is his universe.

  967. He can do what he wants, when he wants,

  968. where he wants, however he wants.

  969. And he's purposed a great purpose for

  970. us.

  971. And here in verse 23,

  972. that and that he God, he's the potter

  973. and we're the clay. That's that's the

  974. illustration here for us to get this.

  975. God's sovereign everything that he does.

  976. And here we see in verse 23,

  977. that he might make known

  978. the riches of his glory on the vessels

  979. of mercy which he had before prepared

  980. unto glory.

  981. That's that's the elect. That's the

  982. that's the saints. That's the that's the

  983. believers. That's the church.

  984. That's all the Jews that believe. That's

  985. what Paul is telling and breaking down

  986. here for them.

  987. That God was going to draft the Gentiles

  988. in. That's us. Hallelujah for that. I'll

  989. turn back to chapter 8

  990. and verse 29. This is,

  991. you know, Paul again tells the gentile

  992. church in Rome about these things. In

  993. verse 29, it says there's that word

  994. forno.

  995. There's that word predestiny.

  996. So from the infinite God, the sovereign

  997. God, the God who has the greatest

  998. purpose that could ever be,

  999. not creature comfortable for everybody.

1000. But it is for those

1001. that he forneew and did predestinate

1002. to be conformed to the image of his son.

  1003. That's why,

1004. you know, God doesn't want us over

1005. occupied down here. He wants us occupied

1006. with heaven. We're just visiting.

1007. So, you know, all the New Testament

1008. writers believe in this. Turn to First

  1009. Peter.

1010. Chapter one. This wasn't something that,

1011. well, Paul, you know, that Paul, he was

1012. pretty smart guy. He figured this out.

  1013. No, it's not that at all. It's a

  1014. revelation from God.

1015. That's what Peter says here.

  1016. 1 Peter chapter 1

    1 Peter 1 chapter mention

  1017. and

  1018. in verse uh two,

1019. you know that Peter does the same thing.

1020. You know, people are like, "Well, man,

1021. this is so this is so out there. I don't

1022. know if people are going to get it. You

1023. know, let's wait until, you know, year

1024. 12 to introduce them to this." Nope.

1025. That's not what these men do.

1026. He introduced Christians and churches to

  1027. this right away.

1028. And we can see this because we've got

1029. God's word. This is a revelation. This

1030. is not a, you know, not a brain

  1031. horsepower thing at all.

  1032. Electing

1033. to the four knowledge of God.

1034. That's who we are. That's who this

1035. church was. Peter believed this um and

1036. preached it. You know, I'm sure that as

1037. he stumbled through his life and the

1038. many trials that he went through, this

1039. was quite comforting for him to know

1040. that God chose him from the foundation

1041. of the world like Paul and Timothy and

  1042. the other men

1043. and through sanctification of the

1044. spirit. So, see, he God doesn't just

1045. leave us in our flesh.

  1046. He's given us something

1047. and that we can be sanctified

  1048. unto obedience.

1049. You know, that's an amazing thing.

1050. Before we were saved, we didn't even

1051. want to talk about God. You know, we ran

  1052. from him.

1053. But here we are now obeying him. What

  1054. happened?

1055. Well, this God from eternity past

1056. elected us according to his knowledge,

1057. to the obedience, to the sprinkling of

1058. the blood of Jesus Christ. Grace and

1059. peace be multiplied. There's no end to

  1060. it

1061. for us sinners. Now, turn to Revelation

    Revelation 4 chapter mention

  1062. chapter 4.

1063. You know, that's the great thing about,

1064. you know, God and his purposes and his,

1065. you know, all these great things is, you

1066. know, he's going to clean things up. We

1067. don't have to do it for him.

1068. And here in Revelation 4

  1069. and verse 11,

1070. you are worthy, oh Lord, to receive

1071. glory and honor and power.

1072. For thou hast created all things, and

1073. for thy pleasure they were created.

  1074. Why were you created?

1075. For the pleasure of God.

1076. We're here for your pleasure.

1077. He gave us this earth. Those galaxies,

1078. the mountains, and the beauty of the

1079. glory of this earth. It just shouts the

1080. glory of God. And we've got more to

  1081. come.

1082. And we have somebody now who is worthy.

1083. And it's the son of God who come to

  1084. earth to redeem us.

1085. So to sum it all up, there are four

1086. areas of God's infinite knowledge. He

1087. knows all things. He knows the future.

1088. He knows everything going on right now

  1089. in every person's mind.

1090. And he knows our mind and our thoughts.

1091. And he knows everything possible.

1092. So we don't know when the Lord's going

1093. to come back, but he does. is resting

1094. with him and we trust in him

1095. and he's going to do something about

1096. this sin. It's like David said in the

  1097. Psalms,

  1098. Lord, what's going on?

1099. I'm in troubled and they're not. And

1100. David said, then I went into the

1101. sanctuary and there I saw their end.

1102. So if your end's not looking good,

1103. there's only one person that can change

1104. all that, and it's Jesus Christ, the God

1105. man who died for our sins according to

1106. the scriptures, and it brought us into

1107. the presence of God. Let's pray. Father,

1108. we thank you this morning for your word.

1109. We thank you for your purposes, your

1110. your declarations. These these are great

1111. things. These are deep things for us to

1112. think about. But we don't want to run

1113. from them. We want to embrace them. We

1114. want to believe them. We want to trust

1115. in you. You know the end from the

1116. beginning. And uh we wait for the return

  1117. of your son.

1118. And may we be busy preaching the gospel

1119. of your son. And and he is holy, holy,

  1120. holy just like you.

1121. He is the one who was, the one who is,

1122. and the one who is to come. In him we

1123. trust. In his name we pray. Amen.

  1124. >> Good morning, Dave.

  1125. >> Good morning, Martha.

1126. >> How are you, [singing] Lord? As we go

  1127. from this [music] place,

  1128. loving [singing] you more,

  1129. trusting [music]

  1130. you more.

1131. May the power of your [singing] love and

1132. the light of your word shine [music]

1133. to a sin darkened world as we go from

  1134. [singing] this
